3. Research
• I feel like one of the strengths of my research was looking at various magazines with some similar
high range designer clothes. This helped me to lay out my magazine in a similar way.
• Another strength would be that seeing other magazines helped me choose what style of font to go
with for my masthead. It also helped me to decide where to put the brands on my front cover and
how to advertise the clothes on the inside
• What were the weaknesses of your research? What could you have done better/improve? What
effect would this have had on your product?
• I spent a lot of time on it which meant I had less time to work on other areas of my final major
project, this affected the quality of other areas of my work.
• Another weakness of my research would be that I was limited as to what I could find on the
internet which was similar to what I wanted to find.
• My survey was limited to people that had internet access, this meant I wasn’t able to get as much
of a diverse response as I wanted
4. Planning
• Strengths
• One advantage of my planning would be that it helped me follow a specific plan on
how I should set out my magazine, front, back cover and double page spread. This
helped me get my work laid out faster.
• Another advantage would be that due to me spending less time on my layout
because of planning it enabled me to have more time to work on other parts of my
FMP and iron out any mistakes I could see.
• Weaknesses
• I hadn’t fully thought out my idea and planned it 100% how I wanted it to be, I had
to think what I wanted to do as I was doing it and make it how I wanted it to be
without any planning which could’ve resulted in a poorer of quality overall.
• It dissuaded me to not use the fonts and colour schemes I planned as I felt limited
to that so I felt like I had to look for other alternatives.
5. Time Management
• Photoshop took the longest time for me to do in this project, I also did
quite a lot of different images and decided to change my mind on them,
this slowed me down a lot but helped me get the photo I wanted to do in
the end.
• I feel as though I completed everything I needed to do for this project on
time but I also wasted a lot of my time messing around and changing my
mind on ideas.
I would’ve spent more time on Photoshop and made the back and front
covers look a bit better, I would’ve done this by cutting my model out better
and blending her into the background.
6. Technical Qualities
Photoshop has allowed me to make my
magazine look like a real magazine. The
masthead is at the top of each magazine
however the real one spells the masthead
downwards and mine just writes it across the
top of the mag. Both magazines have a focus
point and main image of a model which is
supposed to draw attention from the
audience.
Photoshop allowed me to do this by
downloading fonts to try and transform the
text, this enabled me to make my magazine
look more realistic.
A weakness would be that I am not that
experienced with Photoshop so I couldn’t
make the most out of the tools I had and
couldn’t use some of them properly
7. Aesthetic Qualities
The colour schemes I used always looked good together, using a black
and white font depending on my back ground always contrasted and
looked well. The fonts I used suited the style of my magazine. I also
had high picture resolution, the clarity of my fonts and writing was
also good. I feel as though the layout of the magazine was well
organised which also helped. Non of the colours I used clash which
made sure non of the magazine looked odd or mismatched.
A weakness would be that I could’ve included more information on
my front cover which would’ve helped draw more attention to the
magazine by informing people what is inside.
8. Audience Appeal
The brands I used on the front of my magazine appealed to the
specific audience I wanted it to, the female model would also
appeal to males for seeing an attractive female model wearing
what are usually seen to be male clothing brands. It would also
appeal to females by showing that women can pull these clothes
off. I also used the specific colour schemes from my
questionnaire which had the most amount of votes, this would
appeal to the people that voted for these colourways, the colour
ways are also gender neutral which helped them appeal to both
genders. I also included the most popular brands from my survey.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– The contrasting red and white colours make each
other stand out.
– The fonts were clear and easy to understand, they also
fit with the style of the magazine.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• You could’ve included more subheadings to give the reader more
information about what the magazine has inside.
• You could’ve improved your photoshop skills around the image on
the front cover.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I like that you have advertised offers and shown some
clothing that will be in the magazine, I also like the
bright colours
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Maybe add another picture to the cover showing
some other clothing
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– Good name.
– Simple and effective design.
– Good colour palate.
– Has a few company names
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– More information on what you can find in the magazine.
– More big company names to add.
– Maybe add headings and sub headings for the information too
add.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
• I agree that I could’ve added more information to the magazine.
• I also agree that I had a good name for my magazine.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I feel as though I added enough big brand names to interest people
who are interested with the culture my magazine is aimed at.
– I also disagree that I should’ve added more clothing otherwise it
would’ve taken away the simplicity of the magazine and also other
pages could’ve had more photos of clothing in the full magazine.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
I feel that I would definitely add more information to my magazine. I
also feel like I should’ve added more subheadings to show what
information would be included so based on my peer feedback I would
add subheadings.
I would also have honed my Photoshop skills and made the editing for
my front cover a bit better as it isn’t as good as id have hoped, this
opinion is also voiced by my peers in my peer feedback.
