3. Research
• As part of my research for this product I looked at existing products similar too
what I wanted, such as kerrang and the rolling stones magazine. Doing this
helped me to know what I must include in my magazine , as well as what sort
of layout I should be going for.
• I also looked at what colours they had used in the magazine allowing me to
see what sort of colours go with each other, and how many primary colours I
should have so its not too much or too plain.
• The best part of my research I believe to be for the article I wrote, this Is due
to the several hours I spent on researching all about the band and what I
thought was the most interesting too include.
• The part of my research I believe I could have improved on is the amount of
research I did I believe I could have looked at several more magazines, giving
me a larger idea of what is common and what actually works on a magazine.
• I believe to improve I would choose a larger genre because just doing Ska left
me with little information as well as leaving me with a plain 2 tone colour
scheme. I believe this would of made my magazine far more eye-catching for
the buyers as well as giving me more ideas to actually put in the magazine.
4. Planning
• I believe the best part of my planning was the style sheets, these helped
me to get a brief view on what I needed to make the magazine look
professional and appealing to its audience. It also helped me save time for
my article as I already had the fonts I needed ready as well as the colours
and initial layout.
• The weakness of my planning was the time and contents page, I did not
anticipate that I would finish so fast so I had no plans what so ever for my
contents page, meaning it was all on the spot last minute making.
• To make the planning I did stronger I will have a plan b just incase I finish
early and have time too improve my work and make another page,
allowing me to make my magazine far more detailed and contain more
information.
5. Time Management
• I didn’t manage my time too well I ended up finishing what I had planned
several lessons in advance, it allowed me to make another page but I did
not have plans ready for this so it was a bit rushed and last minute.
• I did not need additional time so too improve I should plan ahead just
encase it happens again.
• If I was given more time I would have made a plan for my contents page so
I could have just based it of what I wanted not design it there and then on
the spot.
• I think I exceled at this project because I have experience in Photoshop
and this area of graphic design is my strong point in print based graphic
design.
6. Technical Qualities
My product and the existing product
both have several similarities, the first
one I notice is the layout of the page
both with the image on one side and
the text columned on the other. Also
they both have a pull quote on top of
the image making it more professional
and appealing.
Both products also have several
differences within them, the main one I
spotted was the title I have placed the
title at the centre of the image page in big
text so it is eye-catching unlike the
existing, my product also has an extra box
giving you information on the band which
may only be due to the fact the existing
article is on an solo artist.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
The parts I think are
creative and look good
first of is the colours I
used on the image, using
a low opacity so it
blends well and because
It was a creative way to
add more colour to the
page.
I made the title of the page
more interesting by using
the shape tool too make a 2
tone border, as well as
adding a graphic image of
the skanking man.
The title I used is also stolen
from the band the English
beats logo but I used the
photo shop software to
change it slightly.
To improve the page I think
I could have given my self a
wider colour pallet, and
used an image which was
more centred allowing me
to use more techniques
and more space for my
cover lines, this would
make the page look more
professional.
to improve it next time I
will pick a more creative
genre which allows more
colours and a range of
artists and imagery.
8. Audience Appeal
To appeal to my target
audience I have included
images from several bands
including the album covers,
band members and graphic
images. I also made the
colour scheme a mainly 2
tone pallet, since the 2
tone culture will play a
massive part in my
audience.
I also made the cover
lines eye catching for
the audience linking
to the types of social
groups who in
particular will be
interested in the
magazine.
The selling line I made for
the magazine I used several
bands from the Ska genre,
this is to reach out and be
eye-catching to the buyers.
