3. RESEARCH STRENGTHS
I feel as if the research really helped the outcome of my music
video because I understood different angels and shots that I could
use in order to fit the overall vibe of the song. I done this just by
looking at the artists other videos and started to take notes on
things I liked and didnât like in those videos. Before I looked at
these videos I was struggling to find any sort of idea on what I was
going film and how I was going to edit it. So the research was very
beneficial as it allowed me to find new ideas in other artists music
videos which I wouldnât of thought of otherwise.
Another strength about my research is that it made me find a song
that I enjoyed but also I think would work with a music video to go
along with it. I also found out that the song didnât have a music
video to go along with it so I thought that this was beneficial
because I would want to copy certain aspects of it and I wanted it
to be completely original.
4. RESEARCH, STRENGTHS 2
Before my research I was
struggling to come up with
any ideas of shots however
when looked at the music
video âTell emâ By Cochise it
gave me more of an idea on
what kind of style my music
video would be, it also
showed me some shots that I
could use and obviously
change slightly, such as the
bench on the cliff, I originally
liked the idea of the table in
the middle of the road
because of how random it is
thatâs why I brought a bench
on top of a cliff.
5. RESEARCH, WEAKNESSES
One weakness about my research is that it was quite brief which
therefore made me go off track, for example I had a brief idea the
music video would have a story behind it about a past relationship
however I never really intended on doing that as I felt like it was too
traditional and wanted the video to be more chaotic.
Another weakness in my research was that I looked at too many videos
on YouTube showing you how to create different effects in premiere
pro before I even started to edit or even film my music video, this just
over complicated things and made me feel confused as I wanted to try
create these effects in my video but I didnât even film at that point.
When going to film the video I had these effects in my head when
filming when I could of just not thought about it because in the end I
didnât even use the effects so some shots are ruined as I intended to
create different n transitions with them.
In my research I did find that a lot of things seen in other music videos
are not really possible with the budget that I have to work with such as
drone shots and a high tier level of effects. So this is something that I
did not implement into my video as I can not do these things.
When I was watching music videos I noticed that their was quite a a lot
of story telling however I did not implement this into my video as I
couldnât really find a way for it to work with the lyrics.
6. PLANNING, STRENGTHS
One of the main strengths in my planning is that I was very
certain on the locations on where I was going to film, I had
previously looked at all the locations in mind and decided
that they work for the video. I also took into account the
travel to those locations and how I would get there but also
how my friend would get there and I also planned how much
it would cost to get there. Knowing that the locations where
all in different places I decided to plan a whole day out near
my friends house where we would film everything there at
the same time. This is a strength because it allowed me to
film all different shots at the same time instead of going
back and fourth to the location.
Another strength in my planning is that I created a very
clear shot list in which it was explaining the duration of the
shots and what type of angles there was going to be
included in the video. This was beneficial to my end product
as I printed the form out and took it with me to all the
locations just to remind myself of certain shots I wanted to
include, however some of the shots I didnât use as I later
realised that they might not work which isnât a problem as I
used my initiative to come up with more shots and angles
when I was recording.
7. PLANNING, WEAKNESSES
A main weakness in the planning process is that I was
unsure on days that my friends were free to film as he
has a job and doesnât have too much free time therefore
is was quite unclear on a specific say that I had to film.
This was confusing for me as I had an idea on what day
to film however he later told me that he was unavailable,
But It was my fault as I didnât let him know until a day
before so it was a late notice so I could have been more
open with my friend on when I was wanting to film.
Another weakness in my planning was that I didnât think
of the consequences when filming at a popular location
for tourists on a Saturday morning, this made the shoot a
lot more harder than it had to be, for example we were
trying to film the shot in the middle of the rocks on the
cliff however there was many kids around us that were
making noise and getting into shot.
8. TIME MANAGEMENT
I feel as if my time management was very good as I
started recording on the Friday and Saturday of that first
weekend, this allowed me so much time to shoot but also
to look back at footage and determine on whether I want
to keep or redo some of the shots. I completely finished
filming a week after I started filming however I was not
recording that entire time so I waited until the next
weekend and filmed the rest their however it was more
easy to manage the second time as it was my part and the
location of filming was going to be at my house so I had
plenty of time record everything I needed.
If I had a bit more time I would of looked at implementing
some of the effects that I had learned from some of the
YouTube videos that I watched, because I had plans to
use them to create transitions.
9. TECHNICAL QUALITIES â
CAMERA
In my music video I tried to include many different angles and different types of
shots and also longer and some shorter shots, this really helped the outcome of
the video as there was a sense of difference in most of the shots. This is very
popular amongst nearly every music that you see being released as of recent.
There are quicker movement shots but also slower and even still shots in the
video, this works well with the pace of the song as the beat ramps up the more
10. TECHNICAL QUALITIES â
EDITING/POST
My final piece is quite similar to the images from the music video, âwhat was the last
thing u saidâ because I tried to use a similar effect on the footage to give it that retro
VHS tape look, I also made my music video quite dark in some shots which is similar to
the other video because throughout that entire music video it is really dark with the
VHS tape effect on top of it. I included this in my final piece because when I first saw it
on the other video I wanted to try a similar effect on my video to give it that dark and
sad tone. Another similarity is that the actors are facing away from the camera and
11. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I feel as if my video looked aesthetically pleasing as there
was a visual VHS effect on top of most of the clips which
made it look more distorted and blurry. The video was
more blurrier than I wanted it to be, this was because of
when I exported the video on to YouTube I was unable to
get full quality and it came out a bit blurry. However I
donât see it as a huge weakness of my work as I feel like
it works with the song and the video and is fairly
unnoticeable.
14. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
ï You really did a good job at using video editing to your advantage. You
managed to make what would normally come across as boring shots
pleasing to the eye. The video effects chosen for each clip worked well
with the different sections of the song. The old, discoloured VHS effect
used worked well with the beginning and as the song gradually got more
intense with its beats, the colours got more intense too. In the future I
would try to rely on editing less, some scenes did not make so much sense
such as someone wearing a horse mask and the lighting conditions were
not always perfect.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
. In the future I would try to rely on editing less, some scenes did not make so much
sense such as someone wearing a horse mask and the lighting conditions were not

15. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
ï I really liked the different shots that were taking place throughout the
video, there was versatility shown throughout. However I felt like
there was sometimes too much happening and some shots didnât feel
necessary.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
ï Maybe try to use less editing as there was some editing techniques
that didnât fit with the music video
16. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
ï Your music video was good and the atmosphere shown by the lighting was
very unique and new
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
ï but some lip sinking didnât work and some shots with lighting felt out of
place.
17. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
ï I agree that some of the editing techniques that are used were not
needed as such as they just created a more confusing visual piece to
look at
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
ï I disagree that the lip-syncing was out of place as in every shot the
lips match up with the audio
18. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
I would of changed the lighting as there were too many dark shots
too the point where you couldnât see my face or my surroundings, I
would change this because there where a few too many shots where
the viewers are unable to see what is happening around me which
therefore makes them confused because they may not know what I
am looking at.
