3. RESEARCH
- The strength of my research was looking at different
music videos and taking notes of what they use in their
videos that I could use in mine. It was also comparing
different videos and how the video fit in with the singers
style of music and to copy some of the techniques they
used and to try and put into my video. Such as when I
was watching the Jonas Brothers ‘Only Human’ video they
did a technique with the camera where they zoom in
when it repeats a word in the chorus and it fits in with
the beats of the song, I tried to copy that technique in
my video when it repeats the word “better” it zooms in
on the actor.
I also did some research on
different camera techniques
and I watched videos to see
what different types of shots
and styles I could put into my
video and this helped me
write my shot list for it as well
4. RESEARCH
- To improve my research I think I could of searched up
if there was any music videos that had a similar concept
to mine, such as the video being filmed in a mental
asylum or having a mental patient in it because I think
this would of given me better ideas of what the actor
could do in the video and how to act more like a mental
patient. During filming I did struggle to come up with
ideas on how the actor should act in it, I wrote down
what they should do on my story board but some of the
actions I wanted them to do wasn’t very realistic for
where we were filming and there wasn’t enough space to
do it in so I had to come up with different ideas for what
they could do. I think if I researched more about mental
patients and how they acted I would of got a better result
in my music video.
5. PLANNING
- Planning out my storyboard definitely helped me a lot
when filming because I wrote down the lyrics and I drew
the scene, and the time the scene should end and start
along with how long the scene should last for. So it
helped me know exactly what I was filming and how the
scene would go, I think if I didn't have my storyboard
with me I would have been completely lost as to what to
do and start with. Also planning out the different shots I
was going to do and creating a shot list
helped me as well because I knew what
angle I would be shooting at for each
scene.
6. PLANNING
To improve my planning I could of looked up somewhere
else to film that could of possibly be better than the
studio, because it was hard to film different scenes in the
studio especially when the actor is on the floor because
the white backdrop didn’t go all the way down, so I had
to change some scenes where she was on the floor to
standing up so we could still see the white background.
I also should have been more prepared in case I had to
do re-shoots which I did because some of the shots were
out of focus or some just didn’t work with the song, so I
should of had a back up shot list ready before I started
to film because then I would have been more prepared to
do re-shoots.
7. TIME MANAGEMENT
- I had booked to film for at least one day during college
time and after that I had 3 weeks to put my footage
together and edit it, so I think I did handle my time
management well. I also had to re-schedule a re-shoot
but this was after I had put my video together and my
re-shoot only took half a day so I had to just re place my
original footage with new footage. Having the 3 weeks to
edit also helped me get use to using premiere and I had
time to experiment with it and use different effects in my
video.
-I think if I had more time with my work I would of
focused more on getting the lip sync in time with the
song because some of it is out of focus. Also from my
peer feedback they all said some of the camera quality
wasn’t great so I would probably re-shoot some scenes
where the camera quality doesn't look good and re place
it with better quality footage.
8. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
In the ‘only human’ music video the camera keeps zooming into the
singer in time with the music I tried to re create this with the chorus of
my song and so every time it zooms it hits the beat of my song.
Zoomed out Zoomed in Zoomed in
Zoomed out Zoomed in Zoomed in
The differences between my video and the ‘only human’ video is that when
they’re filming their camera is swerving in and out of everything and is never
steady, which fits with the rhythm of music, but with mine I try and keep the
camera steady because their song is much more upbeat than mine it works but I
9. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
In the song ‘sweet but psycho’ they use an effect on the singer and she
multiplies in the video, I tried to do the same effect throughout my video so
it can give the viewer a sense of how psycho the patient is which is the same
idea as what the music video ‘sweet but psycho’ does.
The difference between my video and ‘sweet but psycho’ is that they’ve used
a lot more lighting and different colours in their video than I did and they use
a lot of camera glares in their video as well however they’re both similar as
the main idea of the video is to do with a mental person.
10. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I think my work looks okay, I think it could of done with
more color to it because it looks quite bland, I did use
filters in my video to try and make the white stand out
more and look more brighter which is an improvement
to what it originally looked like.I tried to make my work creative by
putting in different effects to make the
patient look more mental and to
hopefully give the viewer a sense of
discomfort. The part I liked in my video
is where the patient has been injected
by the doctor and she has mental
flashbacks, that part turned out better
than I thought it would of.
I would try to improve some of the
transitions in the video and also the
lip syncing in the video isn’t as good
as I would of like it to be so I would
re-shoot some of the lip syncing
scenes and get the actor to
punctuate the words more so it’s
clearer
11. With the transitions I
added I tried to make it
look like we were the
patients mind so when
the it looks like there’s
two of them in a scene
it shows how crazy she
is and how far gone she
is as well.
I stop the transitions
when the doctor
comes into the
scene, because I
wanted to make it
look like we’ve gone
to the the doctors
POV and seeing
things from a sane
mind instead of an
insane one.Then when the doctor
leaves we go back to
the patients POV.
12. AUDIENCE APPEAL
My target audience would be Adults and teenagers I think
the song would probably appeal to them and hopefully how
the song links in with the video. I think the scenes when the
patient goes crazy and shakes around on the floor would
appeal to them because they might find it funny or slightly
weird so hopefully it engages them to watch it and also the
flashback scenes might engage them to watch as well
because hopefully it’s something different.
14. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
The acting was really good, I got the idea of video and background
being surrounded by pure whiteness and the miming was almost
perfect, I also thought the camera angles were very good and the
lighting wasn’t that bad.
Overall enjoyed it and thought it was very well planed out.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Different editing techniques would have been cool instead of seeing
the same or similar fade and a few words from the miming shots
were a bit delayed, some shots were a bit out of focus but nothing
can be done about that unfortunately.
Overall not that many issues.
15. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
All the effects in the video were very good and matched the theme of
the video very well.
The lighting was done very well and made it much more appealing to
watch.
The videos themes related to the song well.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Some of the shots (mainly when the girl was on the floor) has quite
low camera quality, this could be improved while shooting or while
editing to a lesser extent.
The opening shot was very pixelated compared to the rest of the
video.
16. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
I liked the effects in the video as well as the transitions and also
matched well with the video.
The lip sync matched well with the song.
The lighting was well though through and matched well with who was
on camera at the time (e.g. the lighting was fair so it you were able to
see the girl clearly).
The song matched well with the video.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
There were certain points where the camera quality change. At the
start of the video the camera was quite low resolution then switched
to a higher resolution. This could have just improved by making sure
that the camera was focused at the time when shooting the video.
17. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with pretty much everything they said about it
such as the low camera quality problem in some of the
scenes could have been improved and I agree when they
said the beginning part of the video was very pixilated
but that was because I had to do that on my phone.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I don’t really disagree with anything they’ve said, I agree
with all of it and next time I do something like this again
I’ll try and keep the camera quality in check.
18. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
- Based of my feedback summary I would probably re-
shoot some scenes and make sure the camera quality is
the same and not as pixilated because this would make
my video look better and less grainy.
- I would also add more effects instead of the same just
to try and change it up a bit and do something different
because using the same effect can get slightly repetitive
- I would also try and get the lip sync spot on because
some of it wasn’t in sync so if I could go back and edit it
I would make sure it’s all timed right.
