3. RESEARCH
I feel that one strength of my research was the amount of
rap artist I explored as this allowed for me to get a wider
sense of what is mostly used in rap videos and what used
less allowing me to understand and implement those
elements into my own so it is not confused for another
music style for example in many of the rap music videos I
researched was that of the clothing theme as many of the
artist clothing style was that of a hoodie so when I did
recording for my music video I made sure that the singer
was wearing a hoodie, another example of this is in my
research is that all the artist were making hand gestures or
doing something with the hand whilst they were singing so
when I was recording mine I made sure to make sure the
singer was doing hand gutters as well whilst singing.
I feel a weakness of my research was that I didn’t do more
research on one specific rap artist and their song meaning I
only have the basic of what makes rap popular but not why
the artist themselves are popular or why there songs are so
popular so in the future I will have to consider looking at to
other product made by one person in the future and an
effect this would have had on my product would be that I
4. PLANNING
I feel I strength of my planning was that it was well set out and
clearly showed what was planning on being achieved such as the
tone style of art direction of the music video this helped my
product quite a lot as the planning allowed me to have a base for
an idea of what I wanted to make my product and what needs to be
where and kind of footage is needed for my product.
Another strength of my planning was my mood board as I feel I set
it out simple enough that it saves time but still makes clear what
story is being told and which scene needs to be where and who's in
it and how the scenes are set out, this helped my product as it
allowed for the finished product stick to the story it is telling but
also allowed for the shooting for the video to stay on track without
losing direction so the only reshoots needed are for messed up
scenes not scene that were never meant to be in the final product.
A weakness of my planning I feel where the description of the
facility's equipment and personnel as I feel an improvement could
have been made if I had gone more into detail about these three
things as the current versions come off as unprofessional and not
well though out and the effect this would have on my product is
that there may have been more uses of props and costumes within
the product itself.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
I believe I have managed my time within this project
quite well as I have been able as I was able to get every
bit of footage shot in time ready for editing and
managed edit my video together on time completing my
project however I do believe that my project could have
been better with more time.
What I would have done if I had more time is that I would
rerecord certain scenes as I feel some of the scenes in
my music video don’t have the energy I was looking for
and certain part of the lip sync are some time only one
second behind the song making it very jarring for the
view to watch as it takes them out of the scene.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
One similarity between
my work and the existing
product is both of our
uses of camera work as
both use long shots as in
which the focus of the
shot is very far away from
the camera.
A second similarity
between my work and the
existing product is our
camera use of medium
close up shot in which the
top half of a subject in a
scene is focused on.
A final similarity between
my work and the existing
product is that of our
camera use of close up
shots in which the
camera is very close up
to a subject face or
object.
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
One difference my product and the
existing product is how the camera is
used to introduce a new character into a
scene as in the existing product the
camera pans around the singer until it
shows someone running towards them
and stops there.
Where as in mine the camera pans left
until it has the new character in full view.
Another difference between my
product and the existing one is that
when both song reach a instrumental
solo in the existing product the
camera pans down but also zooms in
as well and jump cutting to show the
band playing they’re instruments
where as in mine the camera simply
pans down showing the Jerome
8. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
One similarity my
product and the
existing one share is
how the scenes
transition from one to
another as in both
mine and the existing
one we use the editing
process of a fade
transition in which one
scene fades away
whilst the other fades
Another similarity my
product and the
existing one share is
that of the layered
footage and audio in
which audio is put
over an actor or singer
or vice verse creating
the illusion to the view
the singer is actually
singing the song in the
footage.
One difference
however between my
product and the
existing one where as
the existing product
only consist of having
one clip at a time
showing mine near the
end has multiple
separately recorded
clips playing together
in one new scene.
9. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
When I come to my music video I
feel that it looks quite good, but
also I believe it to be quite creative
as there aren't many music video
out there that use machinima in it
so it really helps the video stand out
more among other in the same
genre, but also another aspect of
my music video it that of the live
action footage mixed with the halo
5 visuals which I feel really mixed
together well in my music video.
An aspect of my music video I would improve would be
the final two scenes as one of them isn’t supposed to be
grey and the other is way to unclear and they way I would
go about this is by reshooting the two scenes with me
using a blue screen instead of a green screen for the first
and using better quality images for the second, another
aspect of my music video I would improve would be the
scene that have lip syncing in them as some of the lip
syncing didn't fully sync with the lyrics ruining the
immersion of the music video and so to improve this I
would go back and rerecord the scenes that didn’t have
the best lip syncing in them and repeat until I got the lip
syncing just right.
Strength
• Green screen effects are well
done
• Visually interesting to look at
• Well coria graphed
Weaknesses
• Lip syncing is off in some scenes
• Some green screen scene are a little bit to fuzzy
• Last two scenes drop in quality
11. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
ď‚ Green screening was very well done
ď‚ Gameplay shots looked very good
ď‚ Each shot matched well with what the person was saying.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
ď‚ Try to remove some of the grain in the real life shots.
ď‚ When merging the in real life shots and halo shots, make sure they
don’t clash into each other.
12. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
ď‚ The lip synch seen throughout the video was particularly good.
ď‚ The split screen scenes of the subject and the video game character
is another highlight and a difficult technique that you have mastered
quite well.
ď‚ The green screen scenes, particularly the one when you stand against
the background of space, shows visual creativity.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
ď‚ At least one of the shots at approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds
could have been a little more in focus.
ď‚ The final shot of the video is slightly grainy and could do with a
touching-up, perhaps adding a small bit of colour to the
environment.
13. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
ď‚ The visuals were in focus and the person was clear with the frame when lip
syncing.
ď‚ That colour corrects within the video looked great, especially the halo visuals.
ď‚ The choreography within the music video really good and you can see the raw
emotion when the person is dancing within the music video.
ď‚ The intro to the music video was really good because the transitional fade was
complimentary to the video.
ď‚ Most of the transition were on beat, which was good because it make the music
video feel in sync.
ď‚ The out was great because the last shot was clear and you can see the video
fade out nicely.
ď‚ The overall quality of the music video was HD which made the viewing
experience very enjoyable.
ď‚ The framing and position of the characters of the clips looked great and the
people within the music video was really good because I could clearly see when
was happening with the music video.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
ď‚ A few of the shots were out of focus which made the shots look satisfactory.
ď‚ A lot of the lip syncing wasn’t to the song which was probably the main con of
the whole music video. It was quite hit or miss because it was sometimes good
and sometimes not so god.
ď‚ The green screen at the end was a little bit off because it was a bit pixelly.
14. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
•That the green screen scenes were very well done.
•That the live action mixed with game play footage
matcher quite well together.
•That the lips syncing was very good
•That certain shots within the music video need to be
cleared up
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I can’t really disagree as every bit of feedback was very
viable
15. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
One change I would make to my product based on feedback would be
to rerecord certain scene and make sure they’re more focused and the
reason for this is because unfocused scenes' can really take the
audience out of the scene meaning the song has less replay value to
it.
A second change I would make to my music video based on feedback
would be to fix up the ending and the reason for this as when I
watched to two final shot I wasn't particular fond of how unclear and
grainy they looked.
A third and final change I would make to my product based on
feedback would be to fix up the split screen sections of the music
video and the reason for this is because at certain points my side of
the split screen will clash onto the other character side of the split
screen ruining the sense of immersion I am trying to build in my
music video.
