Research
• When beginning my research I decided to make a start on my mood
boards, this then further helped me gain a better idea on what I was
wanting to achieve within this project. I ended up making multiple
mood boards and wanted to make them both quite different to each
other. I felt as if this was a strength within my research as it then
allowed me to merge the two mood boards together to create a sort of
plan for what my music video would potentially look like. There was also
certain aspects of some the images that I included in my mood board
that I liked and that I also felt inspired by, this included some pictures of
different camera techniques, camera angles and also some locations
that were similar to places that was wanting to film at.
• After creating my mood boards I went onto existing products. When
looking at the existing products I feel as if they were detailed on each
person that I was talking about, after making the existing products slides
I found myself always looking back at them because I found the
information that I had wrote in them was extremely helpful to me in my
planning stage. This was because the key influences that I had a very
similar aesthetic and all had some similarities to each other. Looking
back at this I have realised this was a weakness because I should have
had some key influences that was completely different to my other
influences. One of the most important things that I found useful in my
pre-production/planning phase was my research that I had done on Cole
Bennet, this research allowed me to look into further detail on how
music videos are made and how he directs them and edits them in
premiere pro. This was something that I could take into my final product
because I learned how he used certain effects in after effects but also
how Cole shot his music videos and what kind of locations he was using.
Research
• With my key influences I didn’t just look into
artists I also looked into specific music videos that I
liked. This research on already existing products
allowed me to grab inspiration and take it into my
final product. For example I highlighted certain
effects and camera techniques that I had seen on
music videos. One thing that I found helpful is
when I looked at the use of prop/costume/colour,
something that I immediately noticed in all the
music videos that I have researched into was that
there was no real use of props in the music videos
as there was no real reason to bring a huge
amount of props into it. I also felt the same
because the song that I had chosen was very
similar to the songs that I researched, therefore I
felt no real reason to over complicate the product
by using props that aren’t that necessary.
• With the research that I carried out I found that I
used certain aspects of what I researched however
with my final product it can be difficult to see the
similarities, this is because I found a music video
editor halfway through the production phase
which inspired me heavily and I wanted to make
my final product more similar to that. This editor is
named DotComNirvan and I found myself
extremely inspired by his work, knowing this I feel
as if I created a music video that brings both
aspects of my research together.
Research
• In my Target Audience Profile I explained that the
song that I decided to chose for my music video
isn’t a ‘well known’ song so therefore I went onto
mention that I was wanting to almost shine a light
on this genre of music, I picked this song because I
wanted to create something unique and quirky
which I feel I achieved. Before going into the FMP I
knew that I wanted to create a music video that is
quite quick with fast paced editing, this is
something that I highlighted in my research when
writing about the key influences that I have and
what type of music videos that they create,
weather that be at a slower or faster pace. In my
target audience profile I feel as if there could of
been more detail on the age group that I was
aiming at with my music video rather than focus
more on the ‘underground’ genre that the song is
in.
• One of my main strengths within my research was
that I took something away from each artist and
music video that I looked into, with some music
videos I would like how the lighting is used and with
others I liked how the music video was edited in
post production. All of these things was verry useful
to me as I was able to take my inspiration into my
final product to create something that is similar in
many different ways.
Planning
• With my planning I firstly needed to think of what kind of
locations I was wanting to use for filming. When I was
talking about what kind of locations I was wanting to go
to I didn’t acknowledge the fact that some of the areas
that I may be wanting to film at wouldn’t allow me to film
there and that I would need permission. This was a
weakness in my planning because If I was to go to these
locations to film and then later find out that I'm not
allowed to film I would have been confused as to where I
should film and would end up filming somewhere that I
wasn’t happy with. The Sandal Castle that I decided to
film at was full of teenagers that where using the area as
a hangout area, this is something that I should of
acknowledged in the planning phase as I had to wait for
them to leave which then made the shot a lot darker that
I was wanting it to be which was hard to deal with.
• One issue/weakness that I ran into was that I didn’t
consider to bring proper lighting equipment and because
of that a lot of the shots are too dark and are unusable,
this was a flaw in the planning as I should of made it clear
that I need additional lighting support to help with the
final outcome of my product.
• The most important thing to me in the planning is my
shot list, this is because is gave me a much better idea on
how my music video will actually look shot by shot. I feel
as if my shot list was a strength within my planning as it
was the main thing that I would refer back to when
filming my music video, however I would often find
myself drifting off from the shot list and started to use
my own initiative to understand what kind of shots would
work and which shots wouldn’t work so well. This is
something that I expected to happen before going into
filming my music video as the same thing happened last
time, I also feel as if its quite rare if people stick to their
plan completely and will often go slightly off track.
Planning
• With my storyboard I thought as if it was detailed enough for
me to be able to go back and refer to it when I'm in the middle
of filming. However when I was in the middle of production I
decided to not use the storyboard as I felt like I was limiting
myself and I wanted to go outside of what I originally put onto
my storyboard, this is because when I got to the location of
filming I saw something different places that I could get shots
and wanted to experiment with different camera angles and
transitions. In addition I did memorise the storyboard and had
an idea in my head on what I was wanting it to look like.
• I also said that I wanted to have some sort of story throughout
my music video however I later decided that this wouldn’t
work too well with what I was wanting to achieve as I just
wanted the main focus of my video to be the pace of the shots
and the editing behind it and didn’t want to include a story into
that as it would complicated the video and I would imagine
that my audience find it somewhat confusing. I feel as if this
improved my final product because my music video works well
with the shots of me lip-syncing to the camera, me not
including a story in my video also makes sense because the
song is quite short and would have been hard for me to
incorporate a story alongside the other visuals that will be
going on.
• My production schedule was quite beneficial to me because it
gave me plan as to what I would do on each week and how
long I would spend on each aspect of my production
Time Management
• I feel as if my time management wasn’t bad however it could have been
improved, I found that I could of given myself more time to film as when I
went to film for the first time the footage wasn’t good enough to use so I was
then left with little time left to record. Therefore I feel as if the filming was
quite rushed and should of allocated myself more time, however I managed to
work around this and create something that I feel looks good for my final
product. I also feel as if I rushed into my storyboard and could I could of made
it much more helpful to me, I say this because I hurried into making the
storyboard and didn’t think too hard about what shots would be used and
where they would be placed into the video, therefore I went into production
partially blind as I had no real visual plan to follow other than my shot list, I
should of given myself more time to complete the storyboard which would of
improved the outcome of my final product because I would have had a clear
vision as to what I wanted to achieve.
• If I had more time I feel as if not much would of changed overall as I gave
myself enough for the production side of things therefore I ended up finishing
early than I though which then allowed me to revisit previous parts of the
project which therefore improved the final piece.
Technical Qualities
My work was heavily inspired by Yeat and
DotComNirvan as you can see in these
pictures. One aspect that I really liked
from his videos is the use of camera
shakes and when the hue and saturation
changes in certain parts in multiple shots.
I put my LED lights in my room because I
knew that I wanted to create a flashing
effect like DotComNirvan does in his
videos. I wanted to use this effect
because I simply felt as if it worked with
the song that I had chosen
With my video I decided to try get some
darker shots in just some of the shots that I
was wanting to use, when I was looking into
other music videos I noticed that there was
always a few darker shots than others and it
created a good contrast between both light
and dark
I also acknowledged the fact that the
performers where in the centre of
the screen performing to the camera
so I tried to have this specific shot
with me as the main focus in the
centre of the screen
Technical Qualities
One thing that I took from the ‘Day-care’ music
video was the use of exotic colours and how they
were used to create transitions into new shots.
There would be a sudden change in colours
which almost creates a trippy effect, this is
something that I admired and then implemented
into my own music video
Something that is similar between my
MV and K Suaves MV is the use of
camera shakes and where the video
almost warps out. This is something
that learned to do when editing my
music video.
One difference between both videos is that I used
the brush tool to make a ‘cartoon sketch’ effect, I
decided to include this effect in my video because
I felt as if I needed something to keep the viewers
attention throughout and is something that makes
my music video stand out and rememberable.
One thing that I took from this music video was the use
of rotoscoping and how I could imitate similar shots
into my music video. I looked further into how to do
this and it was quite simple yet effective I just had to
draw around myself therefore I would be still be in
focus yet everything around me would blurry just like
in this music video
Aesthetic Qualities
• Overall, I personally feel as if my music video looks
unique, I say this because of the editing that I have put into
some of the clips makes them look different and is eye
catching. I have also used cartoon drawing effects to create
some sort of narrative throughout the video and keep the
viewers interest in the video. I tried to be quite creative
with the cartoon drawings and draw on certain words that
are said during the song, this then makes the words more
impactful but also the video more impactful as its almost
like there is lyrics to follow along to throughout the video.
• Some of the aspects of my video that I like the most is
the use of the blur effect whenever the bass in song hits as
it adds a bit more character to the video and is more
effective than just a regular blur in random areas in the
video instead of matching it along to the beat. I also like the
colors that I used in this video as I feel as if there is a
contrast between most of the shots because there is some
shots that are dark which then fades into brighter shots
with the colors changing rapidly to create a trippy effect. I
also like the use of the warp effect as I used that in a few
shots to still go with the trippy vibe.
• If I had to improve my work, I would include more
moving shots as I feel like there isn’t a much movement and
its quite stationary, I would like to incorporate more moving
cars or trains etc. I would also like to improve my work by
not relying so much on editing and overusing some effects
in some shots which then becomes a bit messy.
Audience Appeal
I think I have done a really good job in appealing to my target audience as I have taken
inspiration from other music videos that they have interest in and used that inspiration
in my own way. I think the fast paced editing will be the main thing that appeals to my
target audience because they are used to watching music videos with that as they are
the younger generations and prefer music videos that are edited to a faster pace, I
know this through my questionnaire as I asked what was there favourite music videos
where? I later looked into all the answers and found out around 80% liked a faster
paced music video rather than a slower one.
As you can see my work would appeal to my audience as I have used
similar effects such as the trippy warp effect which is used in many music
videos nowadays, I have purposely added this effect to entice the audience
and make my video more appealing to the younger generation.

Feedback 1
What did you like about the product?
• Energy of the shots
• Amazing editing
• Song fits the video very well
• Drawings made it feel very professional
What improvements could have been made
to the product?
• Some bits are out of sync
• Some shots are too dark
• There was some clips that were too fast and couldn't make out what was
happening
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
• The editing throughout the video is all really good and detailed, it shows that you
put time and effort into it, the different locations and the use of different locations
also shows that you planned this video well. The editing matches with the beats in
the song well and lip-syncing is accurate
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• Some parts with the text need to be slowed down and is too fast you can't really
see them, the animations all go by quite fast and can become quite busy, don’t
move the camera too much when filming, have more shots of scenery rather than
just all of you
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
• The use of the cartoon doodles was great and the odd words popping out was
something to different to see and makes this video quite different. The editing in
aftereffects are very cool and brings an edgy vibe to the video
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• The music video felt quite stationary in some parts and could have included shots
of things moving other than just Jamie performing to the camera the whole time,
it would have been nice just to have a bit of variety in some shots which would
make this video more professional
Feedback 4
• What did you like about the product?
• The use of different colours was cool, I also liked the aesthetic of the video and created
a sort of mysterious vibe because of the darker shots. So, the little edits in the latter
half of the video look and feel much better, each different scene has its own unique
feeling to it. The reason I say the latter half is because the start is a lot simpler which I
suppose makes sense considering it's the start of the video. The white drawings that
flash on screen are a good touch, especially when they form a face on some
people. The particular thing I like the most is the fisheye scenes with the rainbow
flashing LEDs it looks cool and works well with the music
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• Only got one main issue and it's that the camera work sometimes has too much
movement to the point where it's blurry, not a big deal and it doesn't happen very
often
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
• I agree that my main strength within my work was my editing and not so much the actual filming of
my video , this is something that I would look to improve on of I was making another music video. I
also agree that the doodles that I had done on some of the shots was unique and made the video
have something to follow throughout it.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
• I would like to disagree that the lip-syncing is accurate as I realised after that there was
a couple shots where its slightly behind and it's something that was noticed straight
away when I showed it to others. I also disagree that the shots should have been of
been slower, I feel as if the pace of the shots works well with the song that I have
chosen. I disagree that the animations went to fast as that’s the reason as to why I
included them as I wanted something to pop out and keep the pace up with the song.
