3. RESEARCH
When it came to us researching for our music video, we had to
start by watching other music videos. The first thing we did was
watch a wide range of videos from different artists so we could
understand how one genre comes across different to another,
and how different videos become when they have ranging
budgets for production. We looked at different techniques artists
would use when filiming and editing and even had ago at
replicating our own tricks for practice. We then moved onto
selecting a genre for un to analyse in-depth. I knew which song I
wanted to use early on so I knew I had to use Rap/Hiphop videos.
I chose Eminem as many of his videos have similar yet different
themes going on and I was then able to see what I looked and
began to visualise what mine may begin to look like.
4. RESEARCH
I think some flaws that came of my research was the time
I put into it, finding what would work really well, only not
not use sections of it when it came to the planning and
filming for the video. In the future I should make sure to
keep coming back to the documents I made when
researching to try implement what I found into my own
work as that would help my output something better.
5. PLANNING
After the research, I quickly wanted to note down some
of my ideas early on so I could either implement them or
change them up as my planning progressed. Before
shooting the video, I also made a shot list that I could
look at so I had an easy guide for what and where to
shoot. This was by far the most useful document to me
as it was clear to me what I did and did not need to do.
After that I then made a story board with a block for each
shot. This was so I could visualise what my video might
look like and if it didn’t work in me head, I could re think
shots to then update the film guide to make sure I could
get what it was that I wanted. I also took screenshots for
each box I made to then create a video with the song in
the background, which would be the closest
representation of my final product
6. PLANNING
Some flaws that came from my planning defiantly came
from my eagerness. I thought I had everything I needed
for filming early on but it wasn’t until I would get to the
point of filming that a realised I had actually forgotten
some areas I should have focused on to my production
smoother. So I then ended up going back to my planning
documents so I could edit and add things which made the
actual production time more messy and its important for
me to not rush ahead as in the long run it made things
awkward and slower.
7. TIME MANAGEMENT
Initially my time management went well, Everything was
working out but I underestimated how time consuming
thing would have been. So especially when it came to the
filming and the traveling that was involved (Its important
to add that me and Flynn did some shooting for each
other so production could be easier however that meant
putting in more time for filming) The production began
to get messy along with some rushed documents. I was
having to plan out more time for filming, making sure
the people I needed was free and had to make sure there
was a minimal amount of slacking as when we did our
first day of shooting, we wasted lots of time which also
came from the understatement of how much time it
would take.
8. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
Both use a
range if
camera
angles
such as
low and
high angles
A range of
difference in
the length of
shots is
used to fill
in the scene
appropriatel
y
The quality
is not on
par for the
original
video as it
is a few
decades
old
I was able to
get high
quality from
mine with
recent
technology
being better
The crew
working
on the
original
video
used
professio
nal
equipme
I was
limited
to a
phone
and
DSLR
9. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
We both
had an into
to the
video
before the
song
started
We were able
to used
editing to
such as
zooming to
makes the
shots the way
we wanted
them
The original
video could
not always use
editing to
advantage
such as the
smoking tv
had to use real
smoke, not
edited smoke
I had
access to a
modern
software
with a
different
editing
process
The
original
video
was not
edited
as much
I
implement
ed
different
styles such
as 2 shots
in the
frame at
once
10. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
The videos
followed
similar
pattern in
the theming
as they both
followed the
song lyrics
We used a
range of
lighting
conditions
on different
shots to
make
pleasing
shots
The
original
video was
able to cast
a large
number of
people
I was
limited to
how many
people I
had access
to in the
video
The
original
video
was not
able to
use
lighting
to as
much of
an
I recorded
at a higher
resolution
than the
original
video so it
looked
more clear
11. AUDIENCE APPEAL
They both
used similar
props to
make the
video
appropriate
to the song
They both
touched a
similar
target
audience
with the
props and
shots used
The
original
video was
shown as
more of a
gangster
party
Mine had a
more
humorous
aspect to it
With the
lack of
quality
its not
so
appealin
g to the
eye
Although
mine was
shot at
home, the
modern
equipment
used ay
home made
it more
appealing to
they eye
13. FEEDBACK 1 (FLYNN)
What did you like about the product?
My favourite part of the final product was the authenticity. Nobody
had done a video like it which made the watching of it feel unique.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Lighting conditions are inconsistent in certain shots which makes
moody/dark shots harder on the eye.
14. FEEDBACK 2 (JAMIE)
First of all I think that the video was very well
put together and definitely suited the song,
there was good use of different shots when you
refer to something that is said in the lyrics, I
also thought the video was very comedic and
shouldn't be taken seriously, one thing I would
of changed would just be to film a different
shot of you singing the chorus and then can
implement into the video throughout instead of
having the same clips for the chorus, however
that might be what you were going after but it
works well either way. Good Job !!
15. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
The light humour/comedic side of it was a big feature for the video
Using the props were necessary to get that effect
I do think what I made took a different take on the task while still
making what we were asked to create
I think the lighting criticism was important as I agree with the fact it
is inconsistent
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
Jamie touched on me using the same shots for the chorus. Although I
think it is a valid point and that I could have done different shots for
each chorus, I intestinally chose to repeat those shots as that’s what I
visualised.
16. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
In the future, I would want to be much more careful
about when I am shooting. Small things like the lighting
outside the window shows the verity of time in which I
shot the video.
My facial expression’s in different shots also vary a lot.
I smile and put lots of energy into some. Others I will
instead look casual and careless which adds to the
inconsistency's in the music video.
Some shot’s I altered the pace of. For example there is
a shot in a bedroom where one of the actors added an
extra word to the lyrics (‘But for what instead?’ of ‘But
what?’) and so I had to increase the speed of the clip so
the clip was still at pace with the video however it does
not look very smooth and inline with everything else. In
the future I would pay more attention to every clip I
record rather than gradually caring less and less the
