2. PRODUCTION LOG:
GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.
3. FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you
managed this covering the following areas:
• Technical – using the cameras and any technical equipment; this
could be how you did your lip sync, used the green screen, dealt
with problems with batteries, etc
• Logistical – did your locations work? Did you have any access
problems? Did it rain?
• Personnel – how were your cast/crew? Did anyone let you down?
How did you manage this?
• Planning – did your planning help? Do you think it could have
worked better? How?
• Next steps – do you need to re-film? Film more? Have you
changed your video? How/why?
4. TECHNICAL
Overall I found using the cameras and equipment okay, for the
future I definitely could gain more knowledge on using
cameras independently but overall found that it went well.
With the lip-syncing I feel like it went quite good and the video
matched up to the audio well so I was happy with the overall
product.
5. LOGISTICAL
When it came to filming I think the locations went very well,
for example the B roll shots of the buildings inspired and in
reference to the Pale Waves music video it came out exactly
how I wanted and definitely made it look very British. I was
also really happy with the location filming in the studio and
how it contrasted to the other locations.
6. PERSONNEL
Originally I had a different person to be in the music video
who unfortunately had to cancel, however I was really
impressed and happy with Claudia who was in the video,
especially since changing cast member was last minute.
There were no issues with any personnel and I found that my
cast did everything perfectly and fit the vibe and aesthetic of
the video really well.
7. PLANNING
I think the planning went well in terms of creating vision
boards and story boards, and they definitely helped me with
coming up with ideas as to what I actually wanted to film. It
also helped a lot when I showed the cast to show them the
overall aesthetic of the video and what I wanted to create.
However I definitely could’ve done a lot more work when it
came to the shot lists as it was very bare minimum and I did
struggle and have to improvise a lot when it came to filming.
8. EDITING
• Record your edit progress, decisions, problems, etc. in
this section
• Include screenshots with annotations, statements, etc
where possible
• Try to explain how you worked and justify why you chose
to work the way you did.
• Follow the structure and what to include on each slide as
this is necessary for evidence for assessment
• Pick notable moments in the editing process and discuss
them, what worked/didn’t work and why, how you adjusted
to problems. Discuss how you worked and what you
learned from the process
9. WHAT WENT WELL
[3 EXAMPLES]
What I think went well was the inspiration and references to
other music videos.
Television Romance – Pale Waves
Mystery Girl – Alexandra Saviour
7 Things – Miley Cyrus
10. WHAT PROBLEMS DID
YOU HAVE? [3
EXAMPLES]
With the colours in the studio I was happy for
the most part, however there were a few shots
that I wish I had made bolder and brighter as
they weren’t as vibrant and were a bit darker.
To fix this I could’ve used more lighting or done
more to fix this problem in editing.
11. NEXT STEPS…
What are the main things you’ve learned from this project?
Pick a minimum of 5 to discuss…
One thing I learned from this project is the importance of planning as I
struggled when it came to filming because of the minimal planning I had
done for a shot list.
I have learned how to edit videos and sync an audio to lip-syncing to create a
music video.
After my original cast member having to cancel, I feel like I’ve learned to solve
problems in a more quick and efficient way.
I learned more on time management and how important it is to plan and
manage your time well with these projects.
Another thing I have learned is making habit of things like checking the
camera is always in focus and the lighting is good which will definitely benefit
me in the future.
