3. RESEARCH
I took inspiration from watching and studying other music
videos, such as using certain filters/ moods made in those
videos or certain shots created that I could recreate or make
similar in my music video.
Some of these music videos I took inspiration from and that
were the most impactful on my music video would be “One”,
“Nothing else matter”, “Fuel” and the original “Independent”
music video.
I also did research for the areas I would film in and what I could
use with the camera to make shots different or work properly
such as using a wide camera lens to get more in the shot and
looking on google maps at the areas I would be filming at to get
ideas for shots.
I did research on how to achieve some effects in premiere pro
such as slow and fast motion key frames and making the shot
move and shake more, this research was both self taught and
4. PLANNING
I made a full shot list for all the parts of the song, I drafted it 2
times and added more detail each time until I had plenty of detail
and images to get an good idea of what I wanted, I also created a
mood board of what I was imagining as well.
I also made sure that I could use and make certain shots using
test footage to test effects and ideas, some effects an shots were
made up as I was editing the music video as they seemed fitting
or better but most were planned.
I planned where I would be filming and also planned for most
problems that i might run into when filming such as charging my
phone before filming so it doesn’t run out of battery or having
multiple battery's for the camera in case one is low or doesn’t
work.
I also created a risk assessment so I could plan what to avoid and
what to change to make more safe while filming.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
I managed to keep to my schedule quite well, filming only
took two days and editing and uploading the music video was
finished when specified it should be finished and now I'm on
evaluation and still sticking to the schedule.
The only real issues I had where on the first day or recording,
we were running out of time to film as it was getting dark but
managed to finish (could have/ should have filmed the next
day for better lighting) and taking a bit longer than expected
for editing partially due to premiere crashing, making me lose
some of my work and eating into my time.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
The close up singing shots
used in the music video
for “Fuel” inspired me for
my music video.
This is a shot of the close up
lip syncing that was inspired
by the “Fuel” music video,
possibly too close to the
mouth but I wanted the eyes
to be cut out of the shot.
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
The black, white and blue
filter used in the music
video “One” heavily
inspired my music video.
I tried to replicate this filter in
my music video, it looks
similar but not identical
especially for certain shots
with bad lighting. This was
used through the entire
music video
8. AESTHETIC
QUALITIES
My music video is quite fast paced and the filter gives the whole video a
sad and or gloomy mood to everything, the censor bar over the performers
eyes also may make the audience wonder and question what's going on
(the censor bar could have been refined and made to look and track a bit
better but still looks okay).
There are a few shot that I believe are quite well executed, such as the
stomp and then transition to the 1st location from the 2nd location, the
panning shot of the 2nd location that uses fast and slow motion, the
beginning of the music video where the camera quickly and jitterily moves
to the performer or the can crushing shot that works very well with the
beat of the music.
9. AUDIENCE APPEAL
I imagine the main audience for this music video would be teens
or older who like rock and metal but also possibly feel upset by
general life and want to be more independent, not having to
follow rules and be dictated by people “higher in power”, whether
that be by parents, other people, bosses, the government or
worse.
11. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
The black and white filter
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
The censor bar should be made better probably not there
12. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
Like the use of fast and slow motion
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Slightly less and more shake in some shots
13. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
Needed more and less shake in some shots to make some seem more
energetic and exciting and make others easier to watch
The censor bar doesn’t really fit with the colour of the video and Is a
bit janky in some places
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
However I do still like the censor bar but just needs to be worked on
and refined
