3. RESEARCH
I researched lots of drill music videos which
had expensive clothing and good shots. I used songs
Krept and Konan – I spy , Loski ft MizorMac – On me and
Country Dons – Sticky Situations. The videos all had
something in common which was branding , this was
expensive brands like Gucci, Moncler and, also their own
brands were also used.
Another reason why I used these videos particularly is
because in the editing they used different techniques
which I liked and wanted to use in my video. They used
techniques such as using words to pop out on balck
screens at certain lines of the song which I did with mine
also. As well as that, I chopped the whole video into
little parts, and put them in different places on
the screen so they would pop out at you in different
places but in synch with the beat to make it more fun for
the viewer rather than just have a normal video running
through with no effects which is quite boring.
4. PLANNING
On the planning powerpoint I started off with the most
important part of the video and that was picking the
location, there were lots of choices which I had and
wanted to do just in case my first idea and where I was
hoping to film the video failed. I had abandones
buildings, outside near vlovks of flats so it is all block
type of houses and looks very urban. Also, I used a
Phone in the end to film the music video but, originally I
wanted to use a drone which could have got shots from
above the cars and above the flares which I
thought would have looked cool. As well as that, I had to
dress according top what the video was like in which I
researched which was expensive high end brands which I
luckily had such as Moncler and Dsquered. There was
also the risk assessment and contingency planning
where I had to mnake sure things were safe to do such
as holding flares was the only main one and also walking
in front of a car which was slowly moving behind me.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
Time Management was fine at the beginning as I got all the
research and planning for the filming complete before I did
the filming. But due to unfortunate circumstances (the
lockdiown due to the virus), I wasn’t allowed to leave York
to go film where I wanted as it was a lockdown in the city I
wanted to go film at. That held me back a bit as then I had
to look for a new location to film and I chose york to film
in a few different spots which I did it all in one day filming
which worked well as I got my equipment for the day
beforehand but I only had one car as my brother could not
bring his car to take part as he was injured so we only
used the one car and not two. This didn’t help as thenm I
had less footasger and it wasn’t enough to fit my song I
chose but I uised muy old footage I filmed with my brother
and I used that as well which helped me fill the whiole
song with footage.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
On my music video I used a phone to film my music video which was
wrong at first as I did the video in portrait face which was
wrong because the video will go onto Youtube and portrait footage
will not work it has to be landscape. I edited the scenes to be
landscape on the computer which was very helpful as then I didn’t
need to shoot the videos again and then I changed it to be landscape
and work when I upload onto YouTube. As well as that, when I was
filming I used different techniques by moving the camera a lot so
zooming in and out or filming from far and then zooming in to
specific logos or designs. The zooming in helped me start and end the
vide3o differently ,also not just have normal filmed shots but instead I
switched it up and used different techniques or also from above
filming scenes also gave a different perspective and what the music
video looked like.
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
The editing was good but however due to the lack of the footage I
took I had to use a few parts repeatedly as there wasn’t anymore
footage to fit the track. However I did end up taking more footage,
later on which I added on to the footage I originally took and
combined it with the rest up the footage which was still; short and
didn’t fit the whole song. Due to this I then, went and got pictures
from the internet to use in the video and I put each picture on
different parts where it linked with the lyrics and there was no footage
from my own filming. I made these pictures also different as they
chopped and jumped out at the certain scene where the words
were sung and it didn’t just pop out normally some of them were
diagnol or they were cut and popped up bit by bit synchronising with
the beat.
8. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
The Aesthetic qualities of my music video is the
lighting for example which is very important in my
music video as there is a lot of shots which is filmed
at night and in the dark and the lighting helps show
the surroundings and the things in the music video
like the props and the person for the viewer.
As well as that, the scenes of where shots are taken
are all block type areas and has a ghetto feel to it as
the genre matches with the scenes which is UK
drill/trap.
9. AUDIENCE APPEAL
The video fits with what my audience will want
as in other typical drill videos the beat has to
be jumpy and catchy for the viewers as that is
the first thing usually inb a drill song which will
gain the listenerts attention. As well as that,
something unique will draw not just drill fans
but also other music fans such as in mine, the
coloured smoke flares, will definitely grab
everyones eyes and, also the production of the
video. In my video I have pictures which
connect with the words and all come up on the
video in synch time and also the video I shot is
cut up into different sections and mixed about
which I did on purpose so each scene fits with
the different melodies in the beat. This makes
the track jumpy and fun to watch for the fans
which drill fans tend to look out for in videos.
11. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
The video was very good as the different uses of shots taken such as
the words and the images popping up on different scene was very
different and fun to see as it wasn’t just your video you made but the
words popping out gave it a unique taste to the music video.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
You could have had more different footage to use from as there was a
lot of used footage repeatedly in different scenes of the music video.
12. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
The things I liked the most about the music video was the smoke
flares which gave a unique colourful look to the video and engaged the
viewer. Also, the transitions of the video where you chopped the video
into sections to synch with the beat was very good as each scene fitted
perfectly with the different beats of the song. As well as that, lastly I
really enjoyed the little parts where the words would come up by itself
when they were said on the song which looked very cool and was
different.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
There could have been more movement in scenes such as more
people , vehicles etc which would have given the video a more fast
pace movemnt and more enjoyable to watch.
13. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
I like the video and how it’s real life they go hand in hand with the
theme of the music, I also like the urban settings of the video too and
how it shows the backstories the culture to grime. I liked the smoke
effect, as it adds edge to the video and I like how the beginning and
end if the video are a simultaneous shot, kind of like a hello and
goodbye to the music video which captures a story like video.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Larger sizes of the video , the video seems to minimize but I think it’ll
be good to see the video a little longer on a larger screen( like the
pictures are). Also, maybe use different pictures, the sudden change
from urban video settings to a light coloured cartoon picture needs to
be simmered down.
14. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree that the smoke flares give a unique edge to the video with the
colours and also the words which are popping out give a different
feel to the music video which is cool and unexpected. Also, I agree
that the transitions of the video and the chops of the filming
connecting with the beat is very good and works brilliantly.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree with the video having to use different pictures as the switch
of different pictures is because of the lyrics which the pictures fit with
and also the beat drops.
As well as that, the images being a larger size I disagree with as on
some parts the picture gets smaller in places the link with the beat and
it is done on purpose to match the beat drop and song.
15. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
I would definitely next time get more footage to
use as I know there wasn’t enough footage or
the shots which I took were too short top use all
the way through the song. As well as that, I
agree there could have been more people
involved and not just myself in the cuts which
would have been more lively and upbeat where
everyone is having a good time which would
have gave a more bouncy effect on the footage
with the beat which would have been more
enjoyable to watch.
