This document proposes a retro-style advergame called "coca cola bootleg mario game" that would be released worldwide but targeted towards English-speaking audiences ages 9 and up. The game would have gameplay and mechanics similar to Super Mario Bros. and Mega Man, with the player collecting Coca-Cola to defeat alien enemies, communicating the Coca-Cola brand message in a nostalgic 8-bit graphical style appealing to both young and older generations.
1. Working Title: coca cola bootleg mario game
What is it called?
Target Platform:
HTML5, android, ios, PC
Genre:
What sort of a media product is it? advergame
Language / Territories
What countries would you release it in? Would it be suitable worldwide or is it targeted at a specific
population? Is it unsuitable for any cultures or beliefs? World wide but in more English areas and
should be suitable for all cultures
Synopsis / Treatment / Story / How the storyline/narrative/game plays out:
What is your product about? Discuss how it works to communicate a message to the audience?
What is the main message? The plot of this advergame is that this man is just collecting coca cola
to like kill these alien things but its all in styled of the famous Super mario bros (the old 8 bit one) so
it more kind of attracts the younger and older gens.
One Line SalesPitch:
Sum up your product in one sentence basically if coca made a game that had Mario mechanics and
movement but with mega man’s shooting
Style (similar products and graphical style):
What product is yours similar to? Why have you used it for inspiration?
Discuss this in relation to conventions and art style
So my idea has references of Super Mario Bros and Mega Man with Mario being the way the
character moves, the items in the advergame and enemy’s, and with Mega Man with only
having a ref to how he shoots in the game
Audience:
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc
Why would your product appeal to this person? Probably the male audiences will be more into this
and around the ages of 9+ and for people who enjoy a bit of retro instead of all this HD stuff, reason
why I say “Probably the male audiences will be more into this” is cause its got some shooting and
the main character is male/.
2. Legal & Ethical Considerations:
Think about any offensive material you will include? Cant really have anything offensive in a retro
game about stomping on bad aliens.
Will you restrict younger audiences engaging with it? No but anyone who’s like 3 years will
probably just wont understand how to play it.
Will it offend any social groups/religions/ethnicities? Nope
How will you ensure you do not offend anyone? It’s a bootleg Mario game how am I gonna offend
anyone?
Is your product using characters/names/logos of existing ones
Will your product be sufficiently different from existing ones to not get sued for copyright
infringement and how have you achieved this? It dose have similarities of mario and mega man but
they are references of what my game is, so this will all be my idea.
