Wound healing is the process by which the body repairs damaged tissue. It involves three phases - inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. During inflammation, the body responds to injury through processes like coagulation and debris removal. Proliferation involves new tissue formation through granulation, angiogenesis, contraction and re-epithelialization. Remodeling strengthens the repaired tissue over months. Factors like underlying illness, environmental influences, and improper wound care can impede the orderly progression through these phases and lead to chronic wounds.
