What Are The Negative Effects Of Self Perception And...
Over the past 10 years, social networking sites, specifically Facebook, have gained millions of users.
Since these sites are relatively new, there are not many studies involving human interaction on the
Internet in regards to social networking sites. Facebook has many features, including photo sharing,
chatting with friends, and posting status updates. These features decrease in person communications
while increasing total communication (McAndrew Jeong, 2012; Ozmiek Förster, 2017). While there
may be benefits to unlimited online communication, it also has its drawbacks. One of the main
drawbacks is a change in self perception and self esteem after Facebook usage. People tend to
compare themselves with friends, family members, celebrities, or complete strangers (Lee, 2014). Per
the social comparison theory, negative social comparisons, through abilities, emotion, personality
traits, and appearance, can result in a varied perception of the self (de Vries Kühne, 2015; Lee, 2014;
van den Berg Thompson, 2007) and self perception is how people see themselves (de Vries Kühne,
2015). These social comparisons are continually growing with the creation and expanded use of social
networking sites. While Facebook and other sites are extremely popular, especially among adolescents
and young adults, an excessive amount of Facebook use can have a negative effect on self esteem, self
perception, and well being while trying to gain peer acceptance and interpersonal acceptance.

Libya Government and Politics Essay
Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, and completely enclosed by the Sahara Desert, Libya is a low
populated country that was once was a part of the Roman province of New Africa. While the sum
region is close up to 680,000 square miles, the population is close to merely 5.6 million, appearing in
a low community frequency of 9.4 persons every square mile. Libya has a Parliamentary Government.
A parliamentary democracy is a democratic form of government in which the party with the greatest
representation in the parliament (legislature) forms the government. So instead of having the
separation of powers like we do here in the United States, Libya s government has its powers placed in
one main section.

In its place, each town should form a people s committee, a kind of a local council on behalf of the
local people. The groups met in the capital Tripoli in the General People s Committee (GPC),
allegedly to converse about people s proposals for the GPC to support. The General People s
Committee had a universal secretary, but most of its sittings were most frequently chaired by Gaddafi
himself. This organization proved to be a complete failure and typical of any other governmental
system it had never attained anything optimistic from the people s point of view : necessary services
were abandoned, entire cities left lacking regular water supplies, without hospitals, unemployment
continued to rocket, poverty reproduced in the wealthy.
In the United States we have interests groups which are an organized group that tries to influence the
government to adopt certain policies or measures this is also called pressure group. Well immediately
after the revolution in Libya, the role that labor unions, professional syndicates, and other organized
interest groups would play in the new society was in doubt. Regarding labor unions, for example,
Qadhafi stated in a November 4, 1969, speech in Tripoli: There will be no labor unions . . . . Laborers
and the revolution are an indivisible entity. There may be certain labor organizations, but only for
ordinary administrative duties. On November 30, 2012, however, Qadhafi

Peoria Notre Dame should switch keep the trimester system. A trimester schedule makes PND stand
out among Peoria area high schools. Peoria Notre Dame is in competition with the District 150
schools for students, as well as with the high schools in Dunlap, Metamora, and Washington. Since all
of those schools charge no tuition and PND does, anything Peoria Notre Dame can do to set itself
apart from them in a positive way would be beneficial to enrollment numbers. Unlike some of the
other unique attributes of PND such as the 1:1 computer system, the house system, and the rotating

Concealed Carry Weapons (Ccw) Course, Is A Course Taken
Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) course, is a course taken on gun safety and the correct way to fire a
gun. This course allows someone to be able to carry a gun with it being concealed (hidden). The
Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives every American citizen the right to keep and bear
arms. American citizens have the right to keep and bear arms, in contrast, to have the weapon
concealed the CCW course is a requirement. This class intends to ensure safety of weapons, however,
not every gun owner is required to take this course. Including family members are not required to take
this course and a lot of the general public are uneducated about gun safety, increasing the statistics of
accidental injury and death involving guns. Guns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anywhere there is a firearm there is the increased risk of gun related crimes to occur. This article
focuses on if someone enters a public business with the intent of robbing or causing harm and a
customer or worker has the right to keep and bear arms they also have the right to protect. Steven
Lippmann focuses on the negative effects of people being allowed to own firearms and keep them in
the home. In this article, he explains how even though people say they have the right to keep and bear
arms, they have a negative effect on the society and having a firearm in the home increases suicide,
homicide, domestic violence, and accidents.
All three articles acknowledge the right to keep and bear arms as a right of US citizens. Scholar one
differs from the other two articles because its total focus is on the right and what it states in the U.S.
Constitution. Scholar two differs from the other two articles because it focuses on how the right to
keep firearms in businesses can be a great use of protection if someone was to enter with the intention
of committing a crime. Article three differs from the other two because its focus is on the negative
effects of being able to keep firearms brings to a society. None of these three articles discuss a fix to
the issues of the Second Amendment other than for firearms to become illegal. This research is

Loose stones will fall out while in an ultrasonic. This is actually a good thing. It is best for a stone to
fall into the ultrasonic than to lose it. A jeweler can usually set the stone for you which is cheaper than
having to purchase a new stone.
Never clean your jewelry in a sink where it could fall into the drain.
There is an old wives tale of using toothpaste as a home remedy for cleaning jewelry. Toothpaste is
abrasive and can harm fine jewelry by leaving scratches. There are You Tube videos where cheap
jewelry is cleaned with toothpaste, but never use it to clean fine jewelry or anything which has a high
gloss finish.
There are many articles on the internet which suggest using household items like Windex, alcohol,
vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and a soapy water solution. These solutions may not be harmful to your
jewelry and may clean your jewelry some, but here is a little secret about how professional jewelers

How To Evaluate New Orleans And Hurricane Katrina
Evaluating New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina
I. Introduction Of the several natural disasters that humanity has faced, Hurricane Katrina was one of
the deadliest; it caused a depressingly high death toll of 1,833. In addition to taking human lives,
Katrina caused massive economic destruction. In fact, it s the costliest natural disaster in US history
with damage worth $108 billion. In order to impart destruction of such magnitude, Katrina had to be
fearfully strong. The intensity of a hurricane is usually based on classification according to the Saffir
Simpson hurricane wind scale. This scale categorizes hurricanes by their maximum sustained winds
ranging from Category 1 to Category 5. When it comes to Hurricane Katrina, it s no surprise that it
was rated as a Category 5 hurricane. To get a feel for how strong such a hurricane might be, it s
important to know that Category 5 hurricanes have sustained winds greater than 157 mph. In
comparison, Katrina s highest sustained winds were calculated to be 175 mph. ... Show more content

Unfortunately, the challenges that result from hurricanes are multifaceted. When large bodies of water
surround the area of impact, flooding becomes an additional cause for concern. For the city of New
Orleans, the primary goal was to prevent these floodwaters from breaching people s homes. Such a
task was, by no means, easy. The storm surge that resulted from Katrina s wrath was 20 ft high.
Instead of the expected outcome of holding back floodwaters, many of the levees failed miserably.
With nothing to stop the raging waters, much of the city was left vulnerable to the flood and was

Essay on The Communist Manifesto
The Communist Manifesto
Marx describes the problem in great detail in the first chapter. He feels there is a problem between the
bourgeoisie and the proletarians. The bourgeoisie were the oppressed class before the French
Revolution and he argues that they are now the oppressors. The proletarians are the new working
class, which works in the large factory and industries. He says that through mass industry they have
sacrificed everything from the old way of religion, employment, to a man s self worth and replaced it
with monetary value. He is mad that the people of ole that use to be upper class such as skills man,
trades people, amp; shopkeepers, are now slipping into the proletarians or working class. He ... Show

He begins trying to use a sort of a reverse psychology, by saying the communists do not write their
principles specifically for the proletarians. Rather, just by chance, the communist vision is perfect for
the proletarians to use. He said the problem of all other societies before this time have been a battle
between the oppressors versus the oppressed. The basis of these battles has been property. So
Communism looks to get rid of different classes in society. Therefore getting rid of different property
levels or class levels. Marx says it best by In sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up
in the single sentence: Abolition of private property. He says with no private property there will be no
reason to fight or feud.
I think that this is a very good hypothesis put in front of us by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels. They
do a superb job of explaining the problem with the existing government. They also give a vehicle for
change in the next chapter. So its seems that I should be ready for a communist revolution. The
problem with this is that it is just a good hypothesis. As with all hypothesis s they must be tested and
the communist hypothesis has failed most of its tests. I must hand it to Mr. Marx, since I was born and
raised in a very anti communist country and after reading two chapters in his book I was almost ready
to join him. He is a

Business Ethics and the Chinese Market Essay
I believe that standard business ethics cannot be possible internationally. Culture varies from society
to society. The change in culture varies due to various reasons it depends on economic and legal
factors. Political and legal factors play a vital role and that differentiate from one culture to another
that is why I believe that business ethics can never be universal. Considering the example of China

Allusions In The Christmas Carol
The Christmas Carol is a magnificent movie which shows Ebenezar Scrooge a grumpy old man who

future with the help of the ghosts of past, present, and future, which changes Scrooge for the better. In
the Christmas Carol you find many allusions, metaphors, allegories, paradoxes, personifications. An
example of a foreshadowing would be of how Mr. Scrooge is an old grumpy and gloomy man, and
while I was watching this I thought they were implying that something sad has happened in his life to
make Mr. Scrooge to be so dark and dreary. In the Christmas Carol scrooge has an employee Mr.
Cratchet who is happy and joyful. Scrooge has a nephew who does the same thing every Christmas
Day invites his uncle to go dine with him, but unsurprisingly Scrooge declines every year. The movie

this theme along with expressing her political opinions on the treatments of immigrants, especially

It also introduces new people: Paulie a man who frequently visits the café, and JoJo, his son, who the

annoyed him about her, he still speaks fondly of her. For instance, he remarks, That s why Nell was
good to have ‘round. She could be a pain in the ass, you know, like making me hang those stupid
bells, but mostly she knew what to do. This allows the reader to see that the loss of his family has had
a deep impact on him. He misses his wife and son and speaks of how families should be together,
though his never will be again. This is what provokes him to do what he did next. The speaker sees a
young sister and brother come into the Cariboo Café with their mother. He also sees this same woman
and children on T.V. with the report that the woman kidnapped these children. He states that he does
not ordinarily get involved in affairs like these; however, when the police show up at the café, he
points them toward the bathroom where the woman and two children are. The third section changes
speakers once again. The reader is now getting a first person narrative of a Central American refugee

Federalist Papers #10 Essay
United we stand, divided we fall The Federalist Papers Number 10 is written by James Madison and
explains the necessity of the Constitution to protect our country from factions. A faction is a number
of citizens, whether amounting to a majority or minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by
some common impulse of passion or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the
permanent aggregate interests of the community (Publius, 72). Publius states that there are two ways
to get rid of factions. The first way to eliminate a faction is to take the Liberty away from all of the
people in the faction. The other way to cure a faction is to give everyone the same opinion. Both of
this solutions are not possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Publius states that it is not possible to smother a faction but what our country can do is control its
effects. A republican form of government promises the cure of controlling factions. Through elected
officials, the peoples voice will be channeled and there will be, more consonant to the public good
then if pronounced by the people themselves (Publius,77). One way in which a republic deals with
factions is the delegation of government to elected officials. The object of the elected officials is to
refine and enlarge the public views by passing them through the medium of a chosen body of citizens,
whose wisdom may best discern the true interest of their country (Publius,76). This in effect will put
the power of our country into the hands of qualified individuals. These individuals will be able to hear
the voice of the people and decide what is the right decision for the country. Another way that a
republic guards against a faction is expanding to include more people. In a large republic each
representative will be chosen by a greater number of citizens. The greater number of citizens will
make it more difficult for unworthy candidates to gain elected office. Elections are designed to allow
people to choose the men that they want to be represented by. People are more likely to choose the
man with the most attractive merit and the most established character thus preventing a man with
vicious views to gain

Voodoo Religion
Voodoo is a religion also known as Vodou or Voudon. In modern day society, the word Voodoo usually
brings others to the thought of dolls with pins stuck in them to cause pain on one s enemies and the
resurrection of the dead as zombies. In addition, black magic, animal sacrifices, and circles of
worshipers dancing to the beat of a drum are just a few of the many other misconceptions about the
practice of Voodoo. According to anthropologist Wade Davis, however, Voodoo is not some kind of
dark mystical force, it is simply a legitimate religion (Handwerk, 2002). Though Voodoo began in
West Africa, it is practiced in various forms worldwide. As the religion of Voodoo spread, it
encountered a difficult transition. In spite of this hardship, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voodoo priests are prominent and respected figures like many religions. Because of their strong
connections with the spirits, they are expected to perform many social functions. Spirits are called on
to heal the sick, help the needy, and provide practical solutions to life s problems.
The next entities of Voodoo are the Twins. These are much like the ying and yang. The spirits are
curious and rather mysterious forces of contradictories: good and evil, happy and sad, right and
wrong, and other balances. If honored now and again in religious services, they will tend to help one
have the better side of life.
The final entity of Voodoo is the dead. These are mainly the souls of one s own family members who
have died but have not yet been reclaimed by the family. Ignored family dead can be dangerous, often
holding grudges and causing bad things to happen. Honored and cared for family dead are helpful and
very nice. All three entities of Voodoo are shown great respect and treated with dignity, because it is

The First College Football Game
On November 6, 1869 what was coined as the first college football game was played between Rutgers
and Princeton. Later in the 1880s, Walter Camp, a rugby player from Yale, helped shape the rules that
we now have in American Football. From then the game has evolved immensely and I want to help
you understand it. The basic rules are the most important part of every game, but are extra important
in football. Every drive for the offense will start with the opposing team kicking the ball off. If the ball
is kicked out of the back of the end zone, that will result in a touchback, which means the offense
starts on their own 20 yard line. A football field is 100 yards long with two end zones on each end.
Each half you have what is considered your end zone which your defense will try to keep the other
team s offense from scoring touchdowns or field goals in. A touchdown is 6 points plus an extra point
kick that is one point or a two point conversion that are rarer and harder to convert. A field goal can be
kicked at any point on offense is 3 points. So if you are on your own side of the 50 yard line, you
would say you are on your own 20, 25, 30, ect. If you have the ball on you own 20 yard line it would
be pretty difficult to make it 80 yards in the 4 plays you are given. That s why you can earn what is
called a first down every 10 yards. An offense has four plays to gain 10 yards to get a first down or the
ball is turned over on downs, which means the other team will receive

Artificial Neural Networks ( Ann )
CHAPTER 5 Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) 5.1 Machine Learning In machine learning, systems
are trained to infer patterns from observational data. A particularly simple type of pattern, a mapping
between input and output, can be learnt through a process called supervised learning. A supervised
learning system is given training data consisting of example inputs and the corresponding outputs, and
comes up with a model to explain those data (a process called function approximation). It does this by
choosing from a class of model specified by the system s designer. [Nature. ANN 4] 5.1.1 Machine
Learning Applied to the Air Engine The rapid growth of data sets means that machine learning can
now use complex model classes and tackle highly non trivial inference problems. Such problems are
usually characterized by several factors: The data are multi dimensional; the underlying pattern is
complex (for instance, it might be nonlinear or changeable); and the designer has only weak prior
knowledge about the problem in particular, a mechanistic understanding is lacking. [Nature, ANN 4]
5.2 Overview of ANN Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are a branch of the field known as Artificial
Intelligence (AI) which may also consists of Fuzzy logic (FL) and Genetic Algorithms (GA). ANN are
based on the basic model of the human brain with capability of generalization and learning. The
purpose of this simulation to the simple model of human neural cell is to acquire the intelligent

Essay about Evaluating the Main Theories of Counseling
This essay will attempt to highlight and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the three main
theories of counselling within the module covered this term. The three approaches in discussion are
psychodynamics, cognitive behavioural and humanistic.
The psychodynamic theory originated from Sigmund Freud, a medical doctor and philosopher (1856
1939) founded in the 1900s. Freud developed his ideas whilst working as a psychiatrist in Vienna,
collecting information from his patients such as feelings, thoughts and early childhood experiences.
The psychodynamic theory focuses on the unconscious mind. Freud s credence is that different mental
forces operate in the mind. The unconscious mind can be described as being like an iceberg. The ...

The Id is the unconscious state of mind; it is responsible for our voluptuous and immediate
satisfaction. It is our basic drives such as life instincts (Eros) and death instincts (Thantos); it is also
responsible for our libido (sexual instinct).
The Ego is the conscious state, the rational mind which organises our thoughts and makes sense of
them. This develops during the first two years of life.
The Super Ego aims for perfection, it works in contradiction to the Id. It controls our sense of right
and wrong.
Part of Freud s theory was that the Id, Ego and Super Ego were in constant conflict with each other. It
involves the Id wanting immediate satisfaction and the super ego who wants the id/person to behave
leaving the ego constantly trying to resolve the issue.
The Ego uses a number of defence mechanisms to protect itself; these mechanisms are designed to
reduce anxiety and stress. Some defence mechanisms include; repression, displacement, projection,
denial and intellectualisation.
Techniques used by Psychodynamic therapists consist of; dream therapy (making sense of dreams and
interpretation into reasons behind them), hypnosis and free association.
While most psychodynamic theories did not rely on experimental research the methods and theories of
psychodynamic thinking contributed to experimental psychology.
Psychodynamic Therapy was the first therapy used in attempting to explain mental illness and has had

Shakespeare s Sonnet 12 ( 1609 ) And George Herbert s...
This essay will address the theme of death in Shakespeare s Sonnet 12 (1609) and George Herbert s
poem Virtue (1633). Both Shakespeare and Herbert explore notions of death in their poems, in terms
of the tension between the psychical and the spiritual in a religious context. However, where they
differ is that Shakespeare places emphasis on the importance of the corporeal, and of what is left
behind on earth after death. In contrast, Herbert focuses on the impermanence of the physical, instead
advocating a focus on the eternal life of the soul in heaven.
In the late 16th and early 17th century, London was ravaged by the Black Death, causing many people
to ruminate on death and their mortality. Shakespeare was arguably affected also, indeed death as a
concept is a reoccurring theme within Shakespeare s work; prevalent through sonnets, tragedies and
medieval morality plays through the character of Death (Courtney, 1995). Shakespeare s Sonnet 12
explores the physicality of death, by describing the physicality and impermanence of the natural
world. In the first eight lines this is achieved in a traditional blazon format, perhaps to emphasise the
physicality of earthly life. The speaker ruminates on the temporality of life through the image of death
and decay and concludes that the only way in which to ensure immortality is through procreation and
continuation of the family line, so that he may not be forgotten after death.
In the opening line, the speaker meditates on

questions were learning to know and to love the other person, going into the future and past to break

Learning the Process of Writing in a First-Year...
I entered my first year college composition course believing I was equipped with the knowledge, skill,
and ability to write an efficiently researched and well organized essay. In high school, I learned how to
create the traditional five paragraph paper with its introduction of a thesis, explanation of that claim
through three sections riddled with supporting quotes, and conclusion that restated the author s
substantiated statement. This was the prescribed formula I had learned and grown accustomed to using
for book reports, compare and contrast papers, and research essays and, from my bestowment of high
grades and praise, I d never thought to question or deviate from its pattern. When I attended my first

prewriting exercises to the class. These included a freewriting about multiple past events, a recreation
of the dialogue that occurred during one of these events, a freewriting on memorabilia connected to
the occasion, a reflection of the event s significance on the student s life, and finally a culmination of
all the prewriting to create an outline for the essay. These multiple prewriting exercises helped me
uncover, explore, and convey different emotions through my writing. I didn t have to worry about
perfecting these exercises because the professor did not grade the grammar or context of the prewrites
and instead provided suggestions and helpful comments to enhance the essay. Murray explains this
alternative to grading, he says, We have to respect the student, not for his product, not for the paper we
call literature by giving it a grade, but for the search for truth in which he is engaged. We must listen
carefully for those words that may reveal a truth, that may reveal a voice (5). My writing seemed to
become more authentic and it was easier to flow from sentence to sentence because I already knew
what I wanted to say and why it was important for me to convey it to my readers. After finishing the
prewriting exercises, Professor Cardinale would have the class write a first draft of

The Cost Of The United States
An increase in the number of vacation days or limiting the hours worked in a week by the government
may increase the quality of life by providing more leisure time. However, the overall quality of life
would struggle because in this day and age one has to have money to have a good time. Recently after
much debate, the French eliminated their 35 hour workweek limit with strong justifiable arguments by
both parties. The law was first put in place in 2000 due impart to the unemployment rate that was
around 10% at the time. Ideally with shorter workweeks companies would have to hire more
employees to maintain current outputs. Although, in recent years it has become apparent that instead
of lowering the unemployment rate, it has remained near ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite having an extremely productive American companies are hesitant to open factories in France
when they may have to pay workers more than they would in America because of operating cost of

hours. With companies paying less overtime more foreign investments would be made creating jobs
and lowering unemployment would increase the quality of life as a nation as with greater disposable
income the quality leisure time itself would rise.
Ethical Hazards
While agreeing that with the elimination of the law, restrictions should still be enforced to protect
workers from exploitation by their employers. Giving companies more of an edge in their industries
by tampering with the workweek hours could become a slippery slop. The 35 hour week was not just
35 hours and everyone goes home it s like the standard 40 hour week the United States recognizes.
After the 35 hours overtime pay is required which can cost companies millions and if not kept in
check companies could cut their operation cost to an all time low.
Ethically speaking companies should protect their workers from being overworked, but in reality some
of these companies are the same ones with sweatshops in 3rd world nations. The world is money
driven plain and simple. If allowed, companies will either overwork an employee or find one that they
can. Care for quality of life in the business world is a relatively new concept thanks to laws and
demands by customers.

Essay Middle Childhood and Adolescent Development
Middle childhood, is a very exciting time for young children from the ages of seven to twelve years
old. It s known as the school years and new social and cognitive traits are being learned at home and at
school. Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic theory found this to be the latentcy period in which no much

Stages of Growth Development, 1898 1987). This paper will also discuss the changes from middle

Children become rule based and listen when spoken to. School plays a large part in this since teacher
educate kids to listen, sit down quietly and work in small , in the future will be vital for real life work
in adulthood.( Stages of Growth Development, 1898 1987). In this stage of life Piaget s cognitive
theory comes into play. Children in this stage in life are more concrete operational, meaning that they
deal with visible, tangible things. They become more systematic. Peer relationships and best friend are
crucial at this stage, this helps children have deeper relationships while heading into adolescence and
can help determine if they will be able to hold a relationship as adults (Stassen Berger, 2009). Social
trend, such as violence, eating disorders and even drug use are seen more readily in ages seven to
twelve years old. This increasing pressure in schools to recognize the problem and develop more
activities such as sports, music, and social events to help children stay active and away from drug use,
this eventually helps in adolescence and young adulthood years.
Adolescence changes in a child in various ways, physiological, culturally, cognitively. The
adolescence years are a period of rapid growth unlike middle childhood. This is the stage where
puberty and hormones hit a growing child. Pubic hair and budding of breast is seen in girls while in
boys the growth of pubic hair and the penis growing

Introduction
The movement of people is a crucial aspect to consider in contemporary development, not only around
the world, but within a single municipality. According to Code Red , an extensively researched article
published in The Hamilton Spectator in 2010, the most underdeveloped area of Hamilton exists in its
downtown district. The proposed Light Rail Transit system is a public transit project that could
revolutionize the downtown core of Hamilton, Ontario and improve the city s rate of urban
development. This report will discuss and justify a proposal for a North South route, including three
stations/stops, and rejected routes and stations.
Background of the proposed LRT system in Hamilton
I. Rationale Great consideration has been taken by the provincial and municipal governments along
with Metrolinx to ensure that the Light Rail Transit system would substantially benefit Hamilton,

David Assay Interview
It s a well known fact that college is one of the most memorable experiences in life, and one of the
most anticipated. I had interviewed David Tanaka about his college adventure. He s witty, energetic
young man working as a sixth grade social studies teacher at Kalama Intermediate. He was my sixth
grade English teacher, the best one I ve ever had. We were really close in my first year of middle
school, mostly because I didn t really have friends at the time so I always hung out in his classroom. I
got dropped off at Kalama after school a few days ago and walked inside his classroom, pausing when
I saw a bunch of teachers inside, talking. Some of the them had had me as a student, so it was a nice
reunion. Once they filed out of the classroom, I interviewed Mr. Tanaka, who was a little preoccupied
with eating the Lilikoi muffin I brought for him.
He had gone to the University of Putrid Sound, Washington State right after high school. At first, he
was just waiting to get out of the house for some personal space. Growing up with a house of six could

For instance, Dr. Calhoun s study on rat populations have given us an idea of the psychological effects
of overpopulation. Regardless of the conclusion given after the Horrific Experiment , there would
opposers of the beliefs that keep the debate well alive in the communities that involve themselves in it.
As mentioned previously, the study done by Dr. Calhoun was described by Scotty Hendricks in the
author s Think Big article. The rats in the Universe 25 experiment could allow for another aspect of
the effects of overpopulation to be considered. With the only limiting factor of the growing rat
population being living space, there was a conclusion met as well as an interpretation of how this
could connect to our society as human beings. He suggested that the constant interaction between the
mice could have been a probable cause for the increase in violence in the society. With the regulation
of social interaction being done to reduce the amount a rat makes contact with another, there was a
decrease in the effects of the population boom. The author would then inquire: ...is our own version of
Universe 25 right around the corner? No, says Dr. Calhoun. Yes, says anybody who complains about
people being on their phones too often, or that modern life is too narcissistic...will Dr. Calhoun be
proven correct that mankind has enough creativity and ability to avoid the first death?

homelessness among other issues of the times in the United States. Through the movie, John
Carpenter immerses his audience into his vision of what the 1980 s American culture is. Political
views portrayed mainly come from the disdain Carpenter feels towards Reagan s policies. He portrays
the American people as a naïve people who are consistently deceived by a corrupt social and

His plan of action called for a market that was free and deregulated, rather than government assisted.
The budget for pubic housing was cut in half Reagan s first year in office, and throughout his
presidency, he attempted to put a stop to housing assistance entirely. By 1985, there were only 5.6
million low cost housing units available, while there were nearly 9 million people who needed access
to these households. This lead to the homeless legacy of Reagan; the late 1980 s saw a great increase
in the number of homeless individuals, many of which were veterans and laid off workers. (2) On a
talk show in 1984, President Reagan tried to defend himself stating, People who are sleeping on the
grates...the homeless...are homeless, you might say, by choice. This offensive statement of blaming the
poor for economic problems only made those who were against him, more outspoken in their ridicule.
Economic prosperity was credited to Reagan. However, the growth that occurred mostly benefited
those who were already in favorable circumstances. The income gap grew between the classes and
poverty rates increased. Cities with rent control, on average, have two and a half times more homeless
people as cities without them. This is an example of how governmental control has a negative and
severe impact on the people. When rent control is imposed, homelessness increases by 250 percent.

Samuel also represents the aspect of capitalism that Weber discusses in The Protestant Ethic and the
Spirit of Capitalism.
During the period of time that Samuel and his wife begin to follow Miller and his movement, Powers
most clearly shows Samuel s Calvinistic mindset. When arguing over the question of whether or not
the Clare s pursuit of profit was moral, Samuel gives the reader their biggest glimpse into his views
related to predestination and God s gifts to his chosen followers: If they had been committing some
wrong, Samuel assured her, they could not have stayed in the business so long. Prosperity only proved
how fully they satisfied the wishes of both God and men (89). Weber believed that through their
pursuit of eternal life, the Calvinists created a business model of hard work and moral superiority, all
things that Samuel brings to J. Clare and Sons.
In many ways, Powers shows that he values Weber s theory of Capitalism the most out of all those the
class has discussed. In creating the Clares story, he acts as God, and bestows streaks of good luck onto
them for their hard work and risk taking. For instance, when Douglas, Samuel s son, buys huge

America. No man can occupy the office of President without realizing that he is President of all the
people ― Franklin D. Roosevelt (Goodreads). Franklin Roosevelt declares here that the President of
the United States should display extreme professionalism as a result of how they are elected to
represent and serve the citizens of America. Then, it can be implied from this quote that the president
should not overwhelmingly voice his own opinion, especially by being negative and targeting others.
Meaning, the president should put the interests of the people before his own wants or opinions. How
can the president achieve this in the age ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her article, Kang discusses the claim that Trump s phone creates a serious national security concern.
Primarily, his Android phone is very outdated and possibly unsecure. This means that his phone could
easily be hacked, exposing himself and the nation to threats, depending on what information is on his
phone (Kang par. 7). Also, if his phone is able to be hacked, there may be sensitive information that
could be leaked to the world, which could cause major issues with national security. Kang also makes
a main point about his phone being hacked through its internet connection, Twitter requires a
connection to the internet, which exposes the device to security vulnerabilities (Kang par. 6). This
means that his phone could easily be hacked through wireless internet connection. However, Toosi
attacks the topic from a different angle, analyzing how other countries could manipulate Trump s
actions as a result of his tweets. Toosi explains how Twitter has shown us the way that Trump works,
We re beginning to see what excites him, what angers him, what sets him off. We ve never had this
ability to read so much on what a president is thinking (Toosi par. 4). Other countries could easily
analyze what Trump says to provoke him into saying extremely unpresidential things about another
country through Twitter. They could do this by saying or doing certain things

The Importance Of Civil Engineering
When you hear of the word engineering, what comes to mind? Do you think of a train engine rolling
over the plains of South Dakota? Maybe you think of a bridge or a road? If you thought of either of
those things, you are correct. Furthermore, Civil Engineering is all of these things and a little more.
Civil engineering is arguably the oldest engineering discipline. It deals with the built environment and
can be dated to the first time someone placed a roof over his or her head or laid a tree trunk across a
river to make it easier to get across (Civil Engineering). Some of the first ever examples of the civil
engineering was the roof and the bridge. Eventually, our knowledge and tools advanced to enhance the
durability and aestheticism of roads, bridges, and buildings. In addition to roads and bridges, civil
engineering also deals with planes, cars, and boats as well.
In order to become a civil engineer or any job, for instance, you must study and become a perfectionist
in that field. Studying in the school of engineering does not focus on just one subject of study. To put
differently, to become a professional in the job of an engineer you must excel in mathematics. Math is
one of the largest staples in engineering, architecture, and business. Diving deeper, at Iowa State
University Calculus 1 and 2 are two required courses to be taken in order to continue in the path of
engineering. In order to build the building that is aesthetically and structurally sufficient engineers

Atticus Finch Compare And Contrast
In 1984, on any given Thursday night, you would find my family gathered together in front of the TV
watching the Cosby Show. The perfect family show about the perfect family. A far cry from my own
reality, it created a bond for my family. For that short span of time, we laughed together, daily
dysfunction forgotten if only for that half hour. Recently, this fond memory has been tarnished by the
corrosive sexual assault allegations. When I first heard about the scandal, I felt shame in wanting to
hold on to my good times with the Huxtables. In light of current knowledge, does that mean I give up
all that Bill Cosby once meant to me? The same quandary came up as the reviews began to pour in
about Harper Lee s newly released novel, Go Set A Watchman, and the revelations of a not so perfect
Atticus arose. First Cosby and now Atticus my world was crumbling. ... Show more content on

But while Cosby is a real person who has done real harm to real people, Atticus is a fictional
character; still, he has touch the lives of millions of people. So, how should schools deal with Atticus?
Or is the question: what is there really to deal with?
Because of the chronology of the story Watchman is set 20 years in after the events in Mockingbird
one assumes this is the person Atticus becomes, a bitter racist. But wait. Back up. In actuality, in the
chronology of the author, this new hated Atticus came first and gratefully evolved into the character
we all know and love.
The reality is, Mr. Bill Cosby and Dr. Cliff Huxtable are two different individuals (putting aside the
fact that one is fictional and one is not); likewise, Atticus from Mockingbird and Atticus from
Watchman are two different individuals, whose paths were never meant to

  • 2. What Are The Negative Effects Of Self Perception And... Over the past 10 years, social networking sites, specifically Facebook, have gained millions of users. Since these sites are relatively new, there are not many studies involving human interaction on the Internet in regards to social networking sites. Facebook has many features, including photo sharing, chatting with friends, and posting status updates. These features decrease in person communications while increasing total communication (McAndrew Jeong, 2012; Ozmiek Förster, 2017). While there may be benefits to unlimited online communication, it also has its drawbacks. One of the main drawbacks is a change in self perception and self esteem after Facebook usage. People tend to compare themselves with friends, family members, celebrities, or complete strangers (Lee, 2014). Per the social comparison theory, negative social comparisons, through abilities, emotion, personality traits, and appearance, can result in a varied perception of the self (de Vries Kühne, 2015; Lee, 2014; van den Berg Thompson, 2007) and self perception is how people see themselves (de Vries Kühne, 2015). These social comparisons are continually growing with the creation and expanded use of social networking sites. While Facebook and other sites are extremely popular, especially among adolescents and young adults, an excessive amount of Facebook use can have a negative effect on self esteem, self perception, and well being while trying to gain peer acceptance and interpersonal acceptance. ... Introduction Of the several natural disasters that humanity has faced, Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest; it caused a depressingly high death toll of 1,833. In addition to taking human lives, Katrina caused massive economic destruction. In fact, it s the costliest natural disaster in US history with damage worth $108 billion. In order to impart destruction of such magnitude, Katrina had to be fearfully strong. The intensity of a hurricane is usually based on classification according to the Saffir Simpson hurricane wind scale. This scale categorizes hurricanes by their maximum sustained winds ranging from Category 1 to Category 5. When it comes to Hurricane Katrina, it s no surprise that it was rated as a Category 5 hurricane. He feels there is a problem between the bourgeoisie and the proletarians. The bourgeoisie were the oppressed class before the French Revolution and he argues that they are now the oppressors. He says that through mass industry they have sacrificed everything from the old way of religion, employment, to a man s self worth and replaced it with monetary value. Rather, just by chance, the communist vision is perfect for the proletarians to use. He said the problem of all other societies before this time have been a battle between the oppressors versus the oppressed. The basis of these battles has been property. So Communism looks to get rid of different classes in society. Therefore getting rid of different property levels or class levels. Marx says it best by In sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property. He says with no private property there will be no reason to fight or feud. I think that this is a very good hypothesis put in front of us by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels. They do a superb job of explaining the problem with the existing government. They also give a vehicle for change in the next chapter. So its seems that I should be ready for a communist revolution. The problem with this is that it is just a good hypothesis. As with all hypothesis s they must be tested and the communist hypothesis has failed most of its tests. One way in which a republic deals with factions is the delegation of government to elected officials. The object of the elected officials is to refine and enlarge the public views by passing them through the medium of a chosen body of citizens, whose wisdom may best discern the true interest of their country (Publius,76). Later in the 1880s, Walter Camp, a rugby player from Yale, helped shape the rules that we now have in American Football. From then the game has evolved immensely and I want to help you understand it. The basic rules are the most important part of every game, but are extra important in football. Every drive for the offense will start with the opposing team kicking the ball off. If the ball is kicked out of the back of the end zone, that will result in a touchback, which means the offense starts on their own 20 yard line. A football field is 100 yards long with two end zones on each end. Each half you have what is considered your end zone which your defense will try to keep the other team s offense from scoring touchdowns or field goals in. A touchdown is 6 points plus an extra point kick that is one point or a two point conversion that are rarer and harder to convert. A field goal can be kicked at any point on offense is 3 points. So if you are on your own side of the 50 yard line, you would say you are on your own 20, 25, 30, ect. If you have the ball on you own 20 yard line it would be pretty difficult to make it 80 yards in the 4 plays you are given. That s why you can earn what is called a first down every 10 yards. A particularly simple type of pattern, a mapping between input and output, can be learnt through a process called supervised learning. A supervised learning system is given training data consisting of example inputs and the corresponding outputs, and comes up with a model to explain those data (a process called function approximation). It does this by choosing from a class of model specified by the system s designer. [Nature. ANN 4] 5.1.1 Machine Learning Applied to the Air Engine The rapid growth of data sets means that machine learning can now use complex model classes and tackle highly non trivial inference problems. Such problems are usually characterized by several factors: The data are multi dimensional; the underlying pattern is complex (for instance, it might be nonlinear or changeable); and the designer has only weak prior knowledge about the problem in particular, a mechanistic understanding is lacking. The Super Ego aims for perfection, it works in contradiction to the Id. It controls our sense of right and wrong. Part of Freud s theory was that the Id, Ego and Super Ego were in constant conflict with each other. It involves the Id wanting immediate satisfaction and the super ego who wants the id/person to behave leaving the ego constantly trying to resolve the issue. The Ego uses a number of defence mechanisms to protect itself; these mechanisms are designed to reduce anxiety and stress. • 25. Shakespeare s Sonnet 12 ( 1609 ) And George Herbert s... This essay will address the theme of death in Shakespeare s Sonnet 12 (1609) and George Herbert s poem Virtue (1633). Both Shakespeare and Herbert explore notions of death in their poems, in terms of the tension between the psychical and the spiritual in a religious context. However, where they differ is that Shakespeare places emphasis on the importance of the corporeal, and of what is left behind on earth after death. In contrast, Herbert focuses on the impermanence of the physical, instead advocating a focus on the eternal life of the soul in heaven. In the late 16th and early 17th century, London was ravaged by the Black Death, causing many people to ruminate on death and their mortality. Shakespeare was arguably affected also, indeed death as a concept is a reoccurring theme within Shakespeare s work; prevalent through sonnets, tragedies and medieval morality plays through the character of Death (Courtney, 1995). Shakespeare s Sonnet 12 explores the physicality of death, by describing the physicality and impermanence of the natural world. In the first eight lines this is achieved in a traditional blazon format, perhaps to emphasise the physicality of earthly life. The speaker ruminates on the temporality of life through the image of death and decay and concludes that the only way in which to ensure immortality is through procreation and continuation of the family line, so that he may not be forgotten after death. In the opening line, the speaker meditates on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I entered my first year college composition course believing I was equipped with the knowledge, skill, and ability to write an efficiently researched and well organized essay. In high school, I learned how to create the traditional five paragraph paper with its introduction of a thesis, explanation of that claim through three sections riddled with supporting quotes, and conclusion that restated the author s substantiated statement. This was the prescribed formula I had learned and grown accustomed to using for book reports, compare and contrast papers, and research essays and, from my bestowment of high grades and praise, I d never thought to question or deviate from its pattern. These included a freewriting about multiple past events, a recreation of the dialogue that occurred during one of these events, a freewriting on memorabilia connected to the occasion, a reflection of the event s significance on the student s life, and finally a culmination of all the prewriting to create an outline for the essay. These multiple prewriting exercises helped me uncover, explore, and convey different emotions through my writing. I didn t have to worry about perfecting these exercises because the professor did not grade the grammar or context of the prewrites and instead provided suggestions and helpful comments to enhance the essay. Murray explains this alternative to grading, he says, We have to respect the student, not for his product, not for the paper we call literature by giving it a grade, but for the search for truth in which he is engaged. We must listen carefully for those words that may reveal a truth, that may reveal a voice (5). The Cost Of The United States An increase in the number of vacation days or limiting the hours worked in a week by the government may increase the quality of life by providing more leisure time. However, the overall quality of life would struggle because in this day and age one has to have money to have a good time. Recently after much debate, the French eliminated their 35 hour workweek limit with strong justifiable arguments by both parties. The law was first put in place in 2000 due impart to the unemployment rate that was around 10% at the time. Despite having an extremely productive American companies are hesitant to open factories in France when they may have to pay workers more than they would in America because of operating cost of after an employee works 35 5 hours. With companies paying less overtime more foreign investments would be made creating jobs and lowering unemployment would increase the quality of life as a nation as with greater disposable income the quality leisure time itself would rise. Ethical Hazards While agreeing that with the elimination of the law, restrictions should still be enforced to protect workers from exploitation by their employers. Giving companies more of an edge in their industries by tampering with the workweek hours could become a slippery slop. The 35 hour week was not just 35 hours and everyone goes home it s like the standard 40 hour week the United States recognizes. After the 35 hours overtime pay is required which can cost companies millions and if not kept in check companies could cut their operation cost to an all time low. Ethically speaking companies should protect their workers from being overworked, but in reality some of these companies are the same ones with sweatshops in 3rd world nations. In this stage of life Piaget s cognitive theory comes into play. Children in this stage in life are more concrete operational, meaning that they deal with visible, tangible things. Peer relationships and best friend are crucial at this stage, this helps children have deeper relationships while heading into adolescence and can help determine if they will be able to hold a relationship as adults (Stassen Berger, 2009). Social trend, such as violence, eating disorders and even drug use are seen more readily in ages seven to twelve years old. This increasing pressure in schools to recognize the problem and develop more activities such as sports, music, and social events to help children stay active and away from drug use, this eventually helps in adolescence and young adulthood years. Adolescence changes in a child in various ways, physiological, culturally, cognitively. The adolescence years are a period of rapid growth unlike middle childhood. The budget for pubic housing was cut in half Reagan s first year in office, and throughout his presidency, he attempted to put a stop to housing assistance entirely. By 1985, there were only 5.6 million low cost housing units available, while there were nearly 9 million people who needed access to these households. This lead to the homeless legacy of Reagan; the late 1980 s saw a great increase in the number of homeless individuals, many of which were veterans and laid off workers. (2) On a talk show in 1984, President Reagan tried to defend himself stating, People who are sleeping on the grates...the homeless...are homeless, you might say, by choice. This offensive statement of blaming the poor for economic problems only made those who were against him, more outspoken in their ridicule. Economic prosperity was credited to Reagan. However, the growth that occurred mostly benefited those who were already in favorable circumstances. The income gap grew between the classes and poverty rates increased. Maybe you think of a bridge or a road? If you thought of either of those things, you are correct. Furthermore, Civil Engineering is all of these things and a little more. Civil engineering is arguably the oldest engineering discipline. It deals with the built environment and can be dated to the first time someone placed a roof over his or her head or laid a tree trunk across a river to make it easier to get across (Civil Engineering). Some of the first ever examples of the civil engineering was the roof and the bridge.
