2. Essay on Durkheim and Marx Theories Applied to Drug Laws
All societies have rules and regulations as well as penalties for those who violate them. There are
numerous theories about the philosophy behind these laws and punishments, and the reasons we
implement them. A short analysis of two of these perspectives can shed light on the differences
between the various ideas while illustrating that, in reality, each theory carries some validity.
Emile Durkheim and Karl Marx s perspectives on the law are significantly different. Durkheim s view
is based upon the belief that a society s legal system reflects the values of society as a whole, while
Marx s view is based upon the belief that laws reflect a continuing conflict between the classes. An
examanation of how these two perspectives perceive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David Garland agrees with this and writes, penal measures are shaped not just by patterns of
criminality themselves linked to the conditions of life of marginal groups and their relation to other
classes but primarily by governmental perceptions of the poor as a social problem and the preferred
strategies for their treatment (page 134).
In the late 1980 s and early 1990 s, drug use became a major concern for most Americans. As the War
on Drugs and Just Say No campaign were being thrust into the spotlight by the government and
media, the public became more aware of the scope of drug use and abuse in this country. The federal
and states governments quickly responded by creating and implementing more harsh and punitive
punishments for drug offenses. Most of these laws have either remained unchanged or become stricter
in the years since then.
According to the Durkheimian perspective, the public sees drug use as an unacceptable behavior and
recognizes it as a threat to morality and values. As such, drug users must be punished in order to
restore societal harmony and deter future offenses. The increasingly punitive reaction to drug use in
the 1980 s can be seen as a reaction to the public s increasing perception that drugs are a threat to the
moral fabric of society. By inflicting severe punishment on drug offenders, the community is satisfied
with the knowledge that drug addicts are paying for

3. The Realism Lens Of George W. Bush Essay
There are three lenses you can look through for the realism lens. Love, Hate, and fear. It is possible to
take former president George W. Bush reaction to 9/11 and look at them through the love and fear
lens. Showing how Former President George W. Bush could have looked at the crisis as a realist
channeling love the people have for the nation to come up with a solution, as well as fear for future
attacks to prevent this from happening and tell the nation what it needs to do as a whole to respond to
terrorist all over the world. Realism is seeing the problem as it is and dealing with it accordingly.
Many people in political power tend to see problems through a realistic lens. This is because in a
democracy you are elected into power by the people, so a politician needs the people to love him.
However, who loves you today may not love you tomorrow so, a politician must always be a people
pleaser . While a politician in a communist power uses fear which is the best for ruling because they
will not disobey you. How fear can lead to hate which is the worst way to rule because people will
plot against you and impede everything you try to accomplish. With realism, the end justifies the
means however if you are ruling with love you cannot always do what is necessary because the people
may not approve of it. If you rule with fear you will get more done because no one would stand in
your way because they are afraid of you which is why this is the best way to rule. However, if

7. Use Of Rhetorical Devices In If Beale Street Could Talk
In Baldwin s If Beale Street Could Talk, he used rhetorical devices such as, point of view, character
foils, conflict, time elements, and tension/suspense in order to show what it was like to be an African
American in the early 20th century. He shows the reader how it feels to be an outcast in your own
home town. He uses complex themes and conflicts in order to show how many hardships they had to
face in their everyday lives.
The story is told from the main character, Tish s, point of view. Tish is the girlfriend of Fonny who is
in jail and is pregnant with his baby. By writing it through her point of view, the reader is allowed to
feel what she feels and understand what hardships she is facing and how much they are affecting her, I
was too tired to cry, I was too tired to feel anything, (74). If the story had been written through anyone
else s point of view, the reader wouldn t be able to understand how hard it was to be carrying someone

book. This gives him an unknown and assumed flaw for the majority of the story. The reader, no
matter what race or gender, is able to understand how bad racism is, especially in their time period. In
addition, all of the characters had other conflicts to deal with. Tish is pregnant, Fonny is in jail, and
Tish s mom has to travel to Puerto Rico. Baldwin effectively shows how much racism can affect their

9. Essay Deforestation of The Pacific Northwest
Deforestation of the Pacific Northwest
One of the most controversial areas associated with the global problem of deforestation is the Pacific
Northwest of the US. The problem can be broken down into several issues that all tie in together.
These include the near extinction of the Northern Spotted Owl, the business aspect of logging versus
the environmental aspect, and the role of the government in this problem. In 1973, the Endangered
Species Act (ESA) was passed. This enabled the
Dept. of Commerce and Dept. of the Interior to place species, either land or marine, as either
threatened or endangered. Under these terms species could no longer be hunted, collected, injured or
killed. The northern spotted owl falls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing an animal in an artificial environment can certainly not be compared to witnessing an animal in
its natural environment. In my opinion, there can be no price put on the existence of any species on
this planet, plant or animal. To think that money has become such an influential part of our society that
companies are willing to sacrifice a species in order to make a profit. The northern spotted owl is only
one of many species that are on the verge of extinction do to deforestation. Another important
consideration in the deforestation of the Pacific North Coast is logging as a business. The investors of
a publicly owned company sole concern is the growth of their stock, and this for lumber companies is
accomplished by harvesting trees in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Clear cutting old
growth is the best way to accomplish this. This approach leads to quick financial gain but is not best
for the long term or the trees. It is the companies that use this process that is the most unfavorable to
the forests and contributes to deforestation the most. Another approach uses wise management
techniques to maximize the long term profit of the forest. Guest speaker Jerry
Howe would fall into this category as a private land owner. As a land
steward, he believes he can do what he wants with his land. The term

MBA 610 Q2285
January 4, 2015
6 3: Short Paper Any Kind Checks and HDC Status
Several factors come into play when considering the fairness of the court s ruling in this case. We have
to look at whether Any Kind Checks Cashed acted reasonably in accepting a negotiable item from the
payee. We also have to consider why the payee used the services of a check cashing establishment in
the course of conducting his business. Also, it is important to review the provisions that should be met
when an entity tries to assert a protection as a holder in due course. Was Any Kind Checks an HDC in
this case? This depends on what responsibility they had in accepting the negotiable instrument from
Mr. Guarino. Did they exercise due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any Kind Checks did not have prior notice of the check being dishonored by Mr. Talcott when
Guarino attempted to cash it. However, because of its value, they show that they had reason to contact
the maker for approval. It is also reasonable for Any Kind to take Mr. Guarino s actions as suspect. As
is pointed out in the brief, why would a small business owner, particularly one who is a broker of
investments, utilize a check cashing business for this transaction rather than a traditional financial
institution? This question in and of itself should give cause for concern to Any Kind considering their
policy that any check over $2,000 requires approval. A revision to Article 3 of the UCC added a
provision for not only honesty in fact, but also for the observance of reasonable commercial standards
of fair dealing. Because a reasonable party could reasonably consider Guarino s actions as suspect,
and outside of the commercial standards of fair dealing, the burden of proof is significantly higher in
showing good faith and fairness toward all parties (including the maker of the instrument).
We have another example in this situation to look at when analyzing if Any Kind took such care in this
case. When attempting to cash the second check, Any Kind felt it was necessary to speak with the
Maker prior to taking action. Any Kind would not cash the check for Guarino without speaking with
Mr. Talcott. Once they received approval from Talcott, and were not advised of any action

13. Self-Moralism And Social Criticism In Jane Addams
Jane Addams wanted the mind of women to be valued and mirrored through the actions of individuals
seeking to use emotions of empathy and feeling of duty rather than self interest. She joined the
growing pool of criticism of Social Darwinism not because of its scientific weaknesses, but rather due
to its center principal of anti morality. She refused to accept its masculine ideals of physical
dominance to serve self interest and its ranking of materialism. Without doubt, one of her most
stringent and remembered points of social criticism was targeted at paternalism. She routinely exposed
the motives behind 19th century philanthropists who attempted to do good to people rather than to do
good with them . Once again, her target of criticism is the male centered way of thinking that was
pertinent in her time, due to the fact that it was overwhelmingly focused on placing oneself ahead of
another person and attempting to force yourself onto them because you feel that your way of handling
the situation is better than those who are experiencing the hardship you are attempting to amend in the
first place. She wanted less of a paternal mindset and more of a maternal one that is categorized by
empathetic collaboration instead of domination. Addams viewed new groups of immigrants as a
welcomed force into urban American society. Her ideology on race, which can be described as
pluralist, was fitting toward a strategy of reform that took aim at socioeconomic conditions that were

Venezuela, also known as the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, is located on the northern coast of
South America and is bordered by Brazil, Colombia and Guyana. The main language spoken is
Spanish, but there are numerous other languages spoken around the cities. In Venezuela, there is no
dominant ethnicity. Nationalities can range from Spanish and German to African and Arabic. The

is normally a hot and tropical place where the Andes Mountains and Maracaibo Lowlands are located.
As of July 2015, the population of Venezuela was 29,275,460, the 45th largest country in the world

16. Human Potential Is A Concept That Was Introduced By Early...
Human potential is a concept that was introduced by early personality theorists many years ago, and it
implies that as humans, we have an innate tendency toward personal growth and development, and
under the right circumstances, this tendency will lead us to actualize our potential and become all that
we can be (Deci, Ryan, Guay, 2013, p. 109). In other words, each and every person has their own
inner potential, and it just takes the right conditions to realize it. According to the self determination
theory, full functioning involves individuals having access to and using all of their capacities for
experience, connection, and proactivity (Deci, Ryan Guay, 2013, p. 110). The term full functioning is
used in this theory to refer to self actualization. Full functioning is characterized by being aware and
mindful, pursuing and attaining intrinsic life goals, and obtaining inner peace and quiet (Deci, Ryan,
Guay, 2013, p. 110). In order to reach a level of full functioning, according to the self determination
theory, there are three basic psychological needs that must be fulfilled in order to perform the
behaviors that are related to full functioning. These needs are universal and are essential for
psychological well being. They include competence, relatedness, and autonomy (Deci, Ryan, Guay,
2013, p. 111). Competence refers to the desire to interact effectively in one s environment, and it is a

schools for whites and blacks and some systems even had separate schools for Mexican Americans.
Mendez v. Westminster was the first case in 1947 that overruled the segregation of schools due to race

The school leads the sex education and has the curriculum to first educate students. It is not only the
responsibility of the school or government; the parents also have responsibilities to teach their
children at home. According to A Parent s Guide, it says, Parents help their children form values about
relationships and behaviours and their sexual health. (Ontario, 2015) The schools, parents, and
communities are responsible for educations of children to feel involved in the changed and new
concept society has developed. Most parents tend to avoid this kind of communication with their
children. Parents are the most important role models to give the proper ideals on the issues. The results
and conclusions depend on the children, not the parents or communities. Parents should give the right

prey. Just buying up a small company here and there. Another interesting aspect of these creatures that

This idea of the main character being so close to achieving love but falling short causes the theme of
love being rare to illuminate. Alexandre Dumas conjured characters, D Artagnan and Athos, help
depict his vision of love being something that hurts the lover through the use of character personality.
Athos, the mysterious musketeer, drinks solemnly while his companions laugh and make jokes, and
despite his age being much younger than his companions, he acts much older and mature. For the
longest time there was no explanation for his troubles until he finally spills his past about his one and
only lover. After explaining that the woman he loved deceived him for his riches he explains, I tied her
hands behind her back and hung her from a tree. I murdered her. That cured me me of beautiful, poetic
and amorous women (253). From upon initial confrontation to Athos, the reader finally understands
the reasons for Athos contrasting personalities with his friends. He poured his love out for another
women who used it to blind him of her true intentions. He kills his love and is permanently scarred in
terms of his character being forever changed to the dark and saddened man the reader sees today. Not
only do we see that love is a force that hurts but also the character again see s how rare love truly is. D
Artagnan is not invulnerable to love s ability to hurt either. Though throughout the novel, D Artagnan
s composure is a headstrong,

5. What is a Network Access Control (NAC) System? Explain its benefits in securing access control to
a network.
a) NAC is a networking solution for wired and Wi Fi connections that identifies potential problems on
a computer before it accesses the network. NAC uses a set of protocols to define and implement a
policy that describes how to secure access to network nodes by devices when they initially attempt to
access the network.
b) A benefit of NAC is the ability to control access to a network access to the LAN without putting the
network in danger. Based on a computer s credentials and the software installed on it, a NAC system
may give it full access to the LAN, deny it any access, or give it partial access.

Essay Topic 2 Question A The time succeeding Herbert Hoover s presidency became a period of
reconstruction. The Great Depression caused thorough damage through the entire nation. Citizen s
trust stood nonexistent and their motives were vacant. Franklin Roosevelt came into office with
upfront critical responsibilities. In order to save what was left of the United States, Roosevelt had to
approach the detrimental economy with an open mind. He came up with many solutions, some
received questionable appraisal from the people such as the New Deal. The New Deal served as an
attempt to uplift the economy by assisting banks, creating jobs, and financing businesses. In Roosevelt
s mind, government affiliation was vital. The policies sparked controversy among business owners as
they argued it was unconstitutional and put capitalism at stake. The New Deal proves effective in
saving capitalism by initiating a strong federal government to regulate the economy. After the collapse
of the economy in 1929, banks were in crucial conditions. Citizen s trust faltered as Hoover preached
to them empty promises about how things would get better. Franklin Roosevelt s mission with the
New Deal was to recuperate all that was lost during Hoover s presidency. Within the New Deal was
passed the Federal Emergency Banking Act. This act helped produce loans, credit and investment
opportunities for the public. The production

Employee Strengths in Decision Making Strategies
Different individuals in a work environment possess various unique strengths which can be applied in
making effective work related decisions. Participating in the Strengths Finder Test would therefore
help employees to identify what they are good at and how they can use it for the benefit of the
company. This paper will focus on developing a training tool that can be used by the management to
coach the employees on how to use their unique strengths in making decisions. Some of the strengths
that individual employees may possess include flexibility, creativity, teamwork, communication and

Decision making process depends on the trust build between members of the team. In the absence of
trust, members will always be suspicious of decisions or suggestions made by other members of the
team resulting to challenges in making sound business decisions.
Teamwork and creativity among employees also play a major role in the decision making process. To
begin with teamwork, members ought to be in unison and direct all their efforts, knowledge and skills
towards achieving specific goals set by management. The process of bringing this team together
involves various business decisions which require teamwork. All members of the team for instance
should agree to work together in order to form an effective team. The success of the team will also be
pinned on the creativity and innovative abilities of the individual members forming the team (Phillips
Gully, 2013). The modern business environment is very dynamic and therefore requires a creative and
innovative team to make the complex decisions in the dynamic environment. It is therefore clear that
the personal strength of each employee in a modern work environment plays major role in the decision
making process.
Managers have a role to play in developing their employees to utilize their strengths in decision
making processes. Their role involves providing a conducive environment in the work places for
employees to use their strengths to develop courses of action that solve a variety of the management

The term fetish and the element around it can be taken as far back and before the 18th century, the
Portuguese, predominantly West African natives, referred to certain objects that were used in religious
cults and their workings during worship. These religious objects and artefacts described were mainly
used in voodoo and witch craft and were believed to be incredibly supernatural items.
From this, the concept evolved from an item or object that is seen to have magical and enchanting
powers in a more primitive situation to something closer to what we know now.

Austrian neurologist and psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud was one of the first people to address the
subject of sexual fetishism and wrote an essay on the matter. After his investigation he d come to
believe that the purpose and meaning behind an individual s fetish would always be one and the same;
The fetish is a substitute for the penis...for a particular and quite special penis that had been extremely
important in early childhood but had later been lost......It remains a token of triumph over the threat of
castration and a protection against it.
Sigmund Freud, FETISHISM (1927)
According to Freud, a person s fetish, whether it may be a material object, act or some sort of
obsessive compulsive conduct, then that person is substituting the connection to the penis that they
had emotionally lost at childhood and finding support in that object or action. The word FETISH in
fact originated from Portugal, the word feitiço which means spell . This suggests a representation of
power or power over something, in this case power over an individual and one s extreme attachment
to an object, body part or specific situation.

him at one point in his life but he hesitated to pick and choose. I personally believe that what the
narrator means thats he took the road that not many people have taken. The poem speaks about
conformity, therefore one road is giving in to conformity while the other is not. The narrator then
chooses the road less traveled which I perceive it to be the road of nonconformity due to the fact that

33. Using The Digital Space And Social Media
Advertising is defined by the Webster Dictionary as a notice or announcement in a public medium
promotion a product, service, or event. As consumers, we see ads everywhere we look. From TV
commercials to Facebook sponsored posts, Newspaper ads, billboards, and now even in our Google
searches. Ads allow companies to push a product in front of the customers when they are searching for
information or a product related to what the company offers. An ad catches the customer s eye and
intrigues them to either look further into a company s offering or buy what the company is offering.
Now with the use of the digital space and social media, advertising today can be used to its fullest
potential. For example, how many times have you logged into Facebook and have seen that $10
Rayban ad? Or when you search a product on Google and the first search result is straight to Amazon?
Maybe you are watching TV and a commercial comes on about a deal going on at a car dealership in
your area. One day you may have gone to a website to look at some clothes and the next day a
sponsored ad of those clothes you looked at is now on Facebook. Maybe some celebrity you follow is
posting about a product they use and are offering you a discount code. All of these are examples of ads
we see every day as consumers. It is hard to get away from these ads and not have them penetrate our
everyday lives.

39. Measuring the Rate of Rotation in a Simple Electric Motor
Have you ever wondered how an electric motor works? If you have wondered and never got an
explanation this experiment will show you how it works. The objective of this project is to measure
the rate of rotation varying in the size of the magnets. For this project I will need 4 C batteries, a
permanent marker, laser tachometer, a metric ruler, scissors, a screwdriver, copper wire, wire cutters,
electrical tape and Neodymium magnets. This experiment is a simple example of how nearly every
electric motor works. It shows you how magnets and electricity can be used to generate movement.
There have been many people that have perfected the electric motor through time. Nikola Tesla was
the first to invent the AC (alternating current) induction motor in 1888. The AC (alternating current)
created magnetic poles that reversed themselves without mechanical aid, and caused the revolving part
of the electromagnet to spin around the motor. The concept that Tesla used in his motors are still used
today. Electric motors rely on the force of an electromagnet, as does every electric motor. An
electromagnet is created when a current flows through the copper wire. The electromagnet forms a
magnetic field around the coil. A magnetic field is the area around a magnet where its force can be
detected. This magnetic field causes another force which is called polarity. Polarity describes two
areas (north and south poles) of the magnet were the force of the magnet is the strongest.
