Math Reflection
I come from a family of critical thinkers and problem solvers and ever since I was young I was put in
situations where I had to use my critical problem solving skills or had to answer any questions my
mother threw at me. Some of these questions would be the application of math in real life. I would
have to calculate change and taxes on things my mom bought or calculate the sale percentage on an
item. As a kid, I thought these were another one mom my mother s ploys to my life about learning.
When I look back I wish I could go back and tell my 8 year old self to pay attention because this real
world application of math is something I wouldn t explicitly learn in school. Throughout my primary
and secondary schooling math and I would have a love hate relationship, often being a class dreaded
though sometimes offering a sense of wonder and excitement. In my earliest memory of math, I was
learning my multiplication tables. What I remember is the dedication from my third grade teacher as
she had stations for each number that went all the way to twelve. I also remember the timed quizzes
we had to take as conquered a new number and ability to move at our own pace. It was always like a
competition, when someone or a group was ready to move on everything stopped and the class
watched to see if they would make time. My memory does not recall whether it was difficult or the
what pace I went at but, it does recall how much fun I had. In this case I don t think it was the

Accounting Research and Theory: The age of neo empiricism
Michael Gaffikin, School of Accounting Finance, University of Wollongong
ABSTRACT The theorising in accounting prior to 1970 was rejected as not providing sufficiently
general theories. Informed by theories in economics and finance (and other disciplines such as
psychology) and with the aid of computers, attempts to theorise accounting took a new direction.
Large data collection and analysis emphasized a purportedly more systematic empirical approach to
developing theory. Key words: accounting; neo empiricism; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As mentioned, the dominating characteristic was empiricism. It is neo (new) because, although earlier
research had relied on empiricism in that it sought to establish theory from best practice, the emphasis
after 1970 was on a more systematic use of empirical evidence. This was largely made possible with
the availability of large financial databases to which sophisticated statistical techniques were applied
to test hypotheses. This, in turn, was greatly facilitated by the increasing availability and use of
computers.

Research and Theory: the age of neo empiricism. Vol. 1, No.1. pp. 1 17.
All neo empirical accounting research has the underlying assumption of the efficiency of markets the
efficient markets hypothesis (EMH). It is referred to as an hypothesis because despite more than forty
years of research designed to test the hypothesis all attempts to date have failed to confirm it.
Therefore, consistent with the generally accepted process of theory construction which states (simply)
that a theory is a confirmed hypothesis, it remains an hypothesis. The EMH emerged in the 1960s
from the work of researchers at the University of Chicago trained in economics and finance and
working in the areas known as portfolio theory and employing the capital assets pricing model
(CAPM). It was then taken up by accountants also working and studying at the University of

Romeo is completely to blame for the tragic outcome in the play.
William Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet is without doubt one of the most well known love story.
Throughout the five acts of the play, one tragedy follows another, with the famous suicide of Romeo
and Juliet as a tragic conclusion. Throughout the play, it may seem that Romeo caused these events to
unfold, however it is unjust to say that he bears all responsibility for the tragedy. The decisions,
actions and circumstances that other characters made and faced have also contributed to the tragic
outcome. Nevertheless, it is also in the hands of fate that destined the immature deaths of Romeo and
Juliet

However, chance and misfortune could ve been factors giving fate a helping hand. It could be by
chance that Romeo and Juliet were to meet at the ball. And it was unfortunate that the letter could not
reach Romeo as there is a plague spreading and Friar John was forbidden to leave Verona. Before they
were born Romeo and Juliet were chosen as agents of fate, and that it would be a death marked love .
Romeo himself admits that he is driven by fate: I fear too early for my mind misgives / Some
consequences yet hanging in the stars (Act1 Scene4 Lines106 107). However, even if Romeo and
Juliet did not meet at the Capulets ball, fate could make the star crossed lovers meet at another time, as
an important task has to be fulfilled as the result of this death mark d love .
Another major factor in the play is the family feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. Without
the feud, the young lovers may be together and may not have to act is such desperation that had driven
them to commit suicide. The feud has a direct impact on the actions characters decide from the very
beginning, thus, it is another important deciding factor regarding the outcome of the play.
Because both Romeo and Juliet feel intense passion for each other, they behave in a very hasty and
dangerous manner. And despite Friar Lawrence s warning to Romeo: Wisely and slow, they stumble

The Theme Of Paranoia In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time
Beyond the elements of any story, there is always a reevaluation about life or central characters.
Theme always includes a statement upon the notation of abstract qualities through the embodiment of
the writer. As presented in Once Upon a Time, the central insight to the plot suffices to the crude
development of the character who overcompensates the emotion of paranoia, executed by the natural
dangers of the outside world. Author Nadine Gordimer generalizes the concept of the psychosis based
on the parallelism between the fear of the character to the fear of the mother in her dream. Notably,
she illustrates the gruesome reality of human nature, that she echoes the subconscious mind to her
bedtime story.
Granted under the idea of theme, the escapades of Once Upon a Time adds on to the primary purpose
of distressed emotion. Gordimer unifies the human nature of fear to her story based on the personal
experience of herself at home. For instance, ..I was reading every faintest sound, identifying and
classifying its possible threat (Gordimer 231). With this in mind, we can correlate to the theme of
society countervailing the excessive obsession of pessimism. As a result, she attentively entices the
audience through her vision of a practical utopian civilization. Exclaiming, There were riots, but these
were outside the city where people of another color were quartered. These people were not allowed in
the suburb.... (Gordimer 232). For this reason, we can infer all her

Priority 1 ADA Review Paper
When evaluating the Hub at Columbia, I came to the conclusion that all of the Priority 1 ADA
regulations are met. There is a route of travel that does not require any use of stairs. The route of travel
is also stable, firm, and slip resistant. The entrance into the building is also a large, 20 foot wide, open
area that is accessible for people with a variety of different needs. Upon entering the building, people
are able to walk to a large elevator lobby and get on an elevator, which is also easily accessible for
people both in a wheel chair and with crutches. There are no objects protruding into the path that
could be hazardous to someone with a visual disability either. The entrance into the building from the
patio on the amenities floor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The floors in the entryway are all hardwood floors, so carpeting that is too high is not an issue either.
The door handle to the building is 37 ¾ inches high, so it can be reached even from a lower level. The
door in the main entrance is easily opened, but I did notice one way that could make entering the
building a little difficult for someone who is in a wheelchair or cannot move very quickly. In order to
unlock the main door, an electronic key fob needs to be scanned on a scanner. The scanner is
inconveniently located too far away for a person to remain in the same place to scan their key fob and
open the door at the same time. Since the scanner only unlocks the door momentarily, the door would
most likely lock itself by the time someone who had issues with mobility was able to reach the door
handle and open the door. This could be fixed by increasing the amount of time the door remains
unlocked after scanning the key fob or by moving the key fob scanner closer to the door handle. I also
noticed that if someone is trying to enter the leasing office, the door is incredibly difficult to open
even for people who do not have any accessibility issues. The leasing office door needs to be replaced

Writers of the 1920 s Essay
Writers of the 1920 s
The 1920 s had many influential writers in literature. While reaching this time period it is almost
certain that the names William Faulkner, Earnest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald will be found.
Each of the writers has their own personal style of writing and each one of the lives has influenced
what they write about to even the way they each portray their literature.
William Cuthbert Faulkner was born into a financially stable family from New Albany, Mississippi.
Faulkner dropped out of high school to work in his grandfathers store. While at the store Faulkner
found out he enjoyed writing. Faulkner enrolled at U of Mississippi to pursue his his passion of
writing. ( William Faulkner ,Discovering Authors) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hemingway was a very effective writer. He gets his point across to his readers in a very direct way.
His novels included incidences from his life that he had encountered on a daily basis. ( Earnest
Hemingway , Discovering Authors)
F. Scott Fitzgerald was an incredible writer. He often uses incidences from his life in his writings.
Fitzgerald fell in love with Zelda Sayre and married her. They lived all over the United States and
Europe.(Eble 22)
In his writings his life with Zelda is highly portrayed. In the writing of The Basil and Duke Lee
Stories there are a lot of similarities to his life. These stories are almost a diary of his life in a fictional
form.(Eble 22 24) The most popular of Fitzgerald s writings is The Great Gatsby. This is because
Fitzgerald s writing style had matured so much from his earlier works. The book offers great insight in
to his adult life, showing how truely unhappy he was. (Eble 86 88)
Each of these writers have contributed a great deal to American literature. Faulkner, Hemingway, and
Fitzgerald s lives had a great impact on their fiction. Through their writing, readers can begin to
understand the happenings of that decade. The twenties are always going to be remembered through
their works.

African American Veterans Issues
Sue Kelly once said that The sacrifices made by veterans and their willingness to fight in defense of
our nation merit deep respect and praise and to the best in benefits and medical care (BrainyQuotes).
When it comes to a person lacking civil rights, it is most common for the general public to picture an
African American, a gay or queer person, or someone else in the minorities. However, statistics have
shown a surprising rise in veterans with limited health care, no house, and no job. It is under these
numbers, that in which I instate my belief that there lies a major civil rights issue in the veteran
community to which American civilians must answer to.

However, he Veterans for America have taken to a less popular choice. Instead of completely doing
away with the VA, the Veterans for America request a change in them instead. The priorities have been
sorted in a list of ten that also serve as instructions. First off is the rule that veterans must come first,
not the VA. This is the most important rule. They believe that the care and funding of veteran health
should be the first priority. The second priority refocuses on veteran service for those with disabilities
and specialized needs. The third is the improvement of the VA, or more specifically the improvement
of how the VA work such as dealing with the timing and quality of care. The fourth and fifth priorities
deals with the allowing of choice concerning from who and where the veterans receive their health
care from. They believe the veteran has a right to choose. Following suit, the sixth, seventh, and
eighth priorities again drills upon the Veteran Affairs by suggesting reform on thing such as the
possibilities of health care on their budget, veterans demographics, and the cycle of their standard
operating procedures. They also note that the reform of such things will require bipartisan vision,
courage, and commitment to which they state in their ninth priority and how to implement it. The
tenth but by far not the least important priority is to hold the VA accountable for all

Leibniz Rationalism
Rationalism is the principle that maintains that through reason alone we can gain at least some
positive knowledge of the world. The three major rationalists, Rene Descartes, Baruch Spinoza and
Gottfried Welhelm Leibniz, used this idea in order to defy skepticism and expose the true nature of
reality. However, each philosopher is frequently in disagreement. The idea for God , and what
constitutes substance, matter and reality are the four key structural beliefs that aid each rationalist in
the forming of their arguments. Yet, it is these four concepts and the arguments behind them that cause
the inconsistency found in rationalism. The idea that reason can provide positive solutions to the
various questions put forth is made doubtful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, relatedly, the monad must not only exhibit properties, but contain within itself virtually or
potentially all the properties it will exhibit in the future, and also contain the trace of all the properties
it did exhibit in the past. In Leibniz s extraordinary phrase, found frequently in his later work, the
monad is pregnant with the future and laden with the past (Monadology, p22). All these properties are
folded up within the monad, and they unfold when and as they have sufficient reason to do so.
(Monadology p61) The network of explanation is indivisible to divide it would either leave some
predicates without a sufficient reason, or merely separate two substances that never belonged together
in the first place. Correspondingly, the monad is one, simple and indivisible.
Everything we perceive around us, which is a unified being, must be a single monad. Everything else
is a composite of many monads. My coffee cup, for example, is made of many monads (an infinite
number, actually). In everyday life, we tend to call it a single thing only because the monads all act
together. My soul, however, and the soul of every other living thing, is a single monad which controls
a composite body. Leibniz thus says that at least for living things we must posit substantial forms, as
the principle of the unity of certain living composites. My

The Pros And Cons Of Climate Change
Climate Change Rough Draft Richard Hilderman, who has a P.H.D in microbiology, said The 20th
Century has been warmer than any other time period in the last 400 years (60+). Climate change has
been brought upon by the burning of fossil fuels, which releases greenhouse gases (Hilderman 60+).
The greenhouse gases then make a blanket surrounding the earth, which traps heat, making the world
warmer (Hilderman 60+). Even though there are some overstated facts regarding climate change,
policies to stop it would have a positive effect on the job and economic market, and climate change is
the most pressing issue of today that needs more attention and worldwide policies to combat it.
Climate change has shown itself in many different ways. For instance, the global temperature has gone
up little by little since 1880 (Shaftel). This then accumulated to an increase of 1 degree Celsius in
2015 (Shaftel). The global temperature rise shows that the earth is heating up due to the heat being
trapped by the greenhouse blanket created by humans. Along with rising global temperatures, the
ocean s water level has risen roughly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, scientists used to think that the glaciers could someday be all gone, but now no scientist
is even thinking about that (Evers et al.). There is no reason that scientists today could also be
overstating their findings and prediction. Also, climate change is not as pressing of an issue as other
matters such as HIV/AIDS (Berger). Therefore, money and other resources should be put into
malnutrition, diseases, and other worldwide issues. Finally, there would be a huge amount of job loss
in the natural resource sector due to the change to renewable energy (Lefevre). The job loss would be
significant because there would be thousands of people who are not getting money to support their
family, or

Stem Cells And Its Effects On The Field Of Bioengineering
Stem cells has outgrown its medico therapies in the field of bioengineering and also in the treatment of
various conditions of the blood and immune system, or to cure specific cancers Since it s a known fact
that stem cells can different to specialized cells in an undifferentiated manner. As the paper states the
use of insulin producing cells from human or rat adipose tissue derived stem cells transduced with
pancreatic duodenal homeobox can could cure type 1 diabetes. An alternative is, use of embryonic
stem cells. Embryonic stem cells display the ability to differentiate in vitro into variety of cell

An alternative treatment to type 2 diabetes is insulin therapy since it is difficult to achieve desired
glucose levels due to increased spread of the disease. Transplantation of pancreas or replacement of
patient s islets of Langerhans is an ongoing treatment capable of achieving normoglycemia. However
the limitations of immunesupression and scarcity of donor pancreas make this procedure not very
desirable.
Stem cells therapy has been considerd as an alternative stratergy for replacement of damaged cells ,
example embryonic stem cells , bone marrow stem cells etc. Initially to cure type 1 diabetes , insulin
producing cells were created by transducing bone marrow stem cells with the pancreatic duodenal
homobox (Pdx1) gene. Although this experiment was successful in normalizing glucose levels in
streptozotocin induced diabetic mice, the low level of insulin production and the unlikeliness of
producing the culture conditions in vivo make this approach unfit for clinical applications. Moreover,
there was only a modest improvement in blood glucose levels by using experiments done by western
blot, immunofluorscence and RT PCR. We need to further tune this treatment strategy to improve
blood glucose levels to be able to beat the insulin therapy. A very efficient way to approach this
problem is using insulin secreting cells derived

Comparison And Cons Of Science Fiction

How do people make decisions about their sexual behavior? What is the role of will power or self

and women to be faithful? Why do people cheat, but then expect or demand their partners to be
faithful? Why are some men and women more likely to cheat than others? What can be done to
prevent infidelity?
How Do People Make the Decision To Cheat?
To start with, human sexuality is incredibly complex. Decisions about our sexual behavior are
typically not planned in advance. Few people intentionally plan on committing infidelity (at least not
the first time it happens).
When making promises to be faithful, most people are serious and have every intention of keeping
their word.
But while people generally have the best intentions when making such promises, human behavior is
not always governed by the fact that vows were taken and that promises were made.
When it comes to making decisions about love and betrayal, logic and reason have a difficult time
competing with our emotions for control. So from time to time, our emotions influence our behavior
and lead us down paths we had no intention of traveling.
In fact, three separate emotional systems are involved in cheating sexual desire, romantic love, and
attachment. And often these distinct emotional systems pull people in different directions

Pip thinks about Joe, he sadly proclaims, But, [the] sharpest and deepest pain of all... [was when] I sat

the horror of the cruelty with which he treated his loved ones. Pip s passions begin to be outweighed

Pip s fortune, which once fueled his passions, faded, and, almost like a lifting fog, revealed to Pip the
error of his ways and path to personal redemption. In the end, Pip was able to shake of his juvenile
desire and act responsibly. The growth Pip experienced as he broke free of the chains of Satis House

those that gave him nothing but love. As a pensive pip states, ...The inaptitude had never been in [Joe]

material things, and never as important as he thought they were. Pip s fight with passion and

Bandura And Observational Learning
The development of social cognitive is perhaps the most important part of developing and learning. I
think Bandura came up with a good reinforcement to learning that goes direct to helping people learn
by observation. There are three styles of vicarious learning that we expect to change our learning
patterns by observation. They are modeling effect, inhibitory and disinhibitory effect, and eliciting
effect. Modeling effect help you to duplicate the behavior you observe and it come from social
learning theory. It s occur when new behavior happen and the model doesn t have prior knowledge of
the behavior that is being displayed. I think this is the reason children follow parents and role models
to eliminate their behavior. This is important because learning come with rewards and punishment and
behavior both positive and negative follows. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will cause other children to refrain from following or engaging into poor behavior. I think this is
at the top of the list of observational learning because children learn from past experiences and it make
them focus on lessons they have previously seen. I know I can relate to this because most of my
family always drink alcohol and now I don t drink because I know what will happened from the past
experiences. Disinhibitory effect occurs when someone see a person doing something they is wrong
and they have refrained from doing the same thing until they observe them doing it. This will
encourage them to follow another child from displayed this bad behavior they feel compelled to do the
same thing, because the other child may have gotten away with it. In this effect children learn from

Organic And Free Range Of Grass Fed Essay
Organic. Cage Free. Free Range. Grass Fed. Non GMO. These descriptors are used in grocery stores
across the United States of America and are a major component of guiding consumers through their
purchasing decisions. However, since these labels usually appear without any description, how do
consumers know what do these labels really mean? Furthermore, how do food producers and their
governing organizations decide when a label can be applied? The meat, egg, and produce industry are
all affected by this nomenclature system. Therefore, the everyday consumer comes in contact with
these labels every time they make a food purchase and often rely on them to help them make the
healthier and more ethical food choice. But are these labels really denoting ethical sourcing, improved
health benefits, and how strictly is the labeling regulated? The rise of organic farming in the United
States came about following the general push to return to a more natural way of life in the late 1960s
and 1970s. This was really a return to the traditional farming methods that were used exclusively until
the rise of industrial farming in the 1920s. A major force behind this movement was science writer,
Rachel Carson who published Silent Spring in 1962 (History). In this work, she focused on the loss of
songbirds due to the widespread use of DDT and the otherwise indiscriminate use of chemical
pesticides, fertilizers, and weed killers (History). The label organics sprung from consumer pressure

Was The Reconstruction A Success Or A Failure Essay
Discuss Whether Reconstruction Was a Success or a Failure. Reconstruction is the period of
rebuilding the south that succeeded the Civil War (1861 1865). This period of time is set by the
question now what? The Union won the war and most of the south was destroyed. Devastation,
buildings turned into crumbles and lost crops. The South was drowning in poverty. To worsen the
situation there were thousands of ex slaves that were set free by the Emancipation Proclamation and
the 13 Amendment. All these ex slaves , Dr. Susan Walens commented, and no place to put them, The
ex slaves weren t just homeless but they had no rights, unlike white man. The government and

This was working alright until President Johnson, who had preceded Lincoln, order all the land under
federal control to be given back to whom they were taken from (Foner). This is a big setback for
reconstruction and freed slaves. The Freedmen Bureau was the federal institution in control of those
terrains given to blacks and now they had to take it back. Under the administration of O. O. Howard
the bureau functions were to establish schools, provide aide to the poor and aged, settle disputes
between whites and blacks and among freedpeople, and secure for former slave and white Unionist
equal treatment before court, (Foner 483). The Bureau did not have enough agents to put in action the
task appointed to it in the south. The Freedmen Bureau was dissolved after five years living the black
man on its own. Something that President Johnson did to start the period of Reconstruction was to
pardon all Confederates soldiers if they plead loyalty and alliance to the Union. No one was held
accountable for what happened, one man was murder. Also he demanded that the states in the south
abolish slavery and change their constitution in order to be accepted into the United States. Those
were Andrew Johnson terms for Reconstructions. Not very efficient because it leaves all these
defeated soldiers, filled with anger and violence in the streets. Then Congress tried to pass the Civil

Strategic Transformation Of Alexander I And The Napoleonic...
Napoleon Bonaparte was a strategic mastermind who aimed for the domination of all of Europe.
Russia was the opposing force to this plan. The Napoleonic Wars began in 1803 and lasted to 1815.
The Napoleonic Wars affected Russia when they were under the reign of tsar Alexander I. Russia s
allies during the war were Great Britain, Prussia, Sweden, and Austria (Greenspan). In this time
Russia grew as a country and became an independent force to be reckoned with. Russia was greatly
changed through the Napoleonic Wars as a country, because of powerful leadership. The leadership
and decisions of Alexander I played a large role in the transformation of Russia. Alexander I came to
power after the assassination of Paul I, and his reign lasted from 1801 1825. Alexander s reign
followed a dark time in Russia of monarchs and tyrannies. Alexander was favored by his subject for
he wanted to create a new and happier beginning for all of Russia. The beginning of Alexander I s rule
was very crucial for Russia s success in the Napoleonic Wars. Alexander atoned for the faults of his

Community, Identity, and Stability Essay
Community, Identity, Stability But I don t want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger,
I want freedom, I want goodness, I want sin (Huxley 215). In Brave New World people lives were
different and they had different believes they were not allowed to feel emotion because as the Director
said emotions are unstable. They were conditioned to think the way their world is formed is perfect,
but actually it isn t. Emotions could be unstable, but is better to feel them instead of being an
inhumane person that doesn t feel anything. People have to paid a price that they didn t choose and

Flowers are seen as beautiful and represent nature as the same as love when you give them to someone
special. is unjust to lack someone to feel appreciation to natural things and lack them from education.
Another important fact is that people in the World State doesn t have values as now we do. The
concept of family doesn t exist, they consider this word as obscene as the same as father and mother .
In our world family is the most important aspect for most people and we demonstrate love and support
to them all the time. Marriage was another value that people doesn t had and they seem it as horrible,
for example when John propose Lenina to married him she said, what horrible idea! (174). This shows
how the idea of getting married with somebody was seen as something really bad, which for us is
beautiful. Also, people were not allowed to feel emotions, because emotions are seen as a risk of
loosing stability in their community. If they feel some kind of emotions they have to take soma to
forget them. Is like if somebody have to take drugs all the time in order to be happy. In my opinion I
prefer to feel emotions even if no all of them are good, instead of being like an object that doesn t feel
anything. The price that people paid in order to have a stable community is very high and it doesn t

Essay On Dolphins
There are different living places for dolphins in the world. Do you think the ocean is the only place for
dolphins to live? However, actually dolphin habitats are divided into two major parts which are the
wild places and the sea world though they can be found in ports, bays, gulfs and estuaries. The
environments and lifestyles between the dolphins are quite different while this could possibly be
because of the pollution made by human beings.
The dolphins that live at Sea World are more likely to have a larger and better environment of living
space than those which live in the wild. Dolphins which live at Sea World are actually known as living
in the places that are called aquariums. Aquariums are the manmade places with no pollution, which
means dolphins are able to have a cleaner environment to survive. In other words, they will be less
likely to die because of pollution problems. In aquariums, the workers here will clean up the water in

According to some research, dolphins living at Sea World are usually fed by highly trained staffs. So it
seems they do have a better life, at least they don t even need to worry about looking for food. But
think about it in this way, those dolphins just receive food without effortlessly, is it really good for
them? As an old saying goes Gives the human by the fish to be inferior gives the human by the
fishing. So if the dolphins cannot practice looking for food by themselves, they may lose the ability
one day. In addition, dolphins that are at Sea World tend to be fed by visitors, which may pose a threat
to their health. So as I have mentioned that dolphins in those two places can have different lifestyle.
For example, those in the ocean usually leap over the water surface. What s more, dolphins usually
have a migration as the seasons change while for those in the aquariums they may not have such habit.

Exciting Little Moments That Aren t Anymore
Exciting Little Moments That Aren t Anymore There were so many fun games that I used to play as a
kid. Games like lava monster involved us jumping and running from one part of a playground to
another and making sure we didn t get caught by the lava monster. Tag and freeze tag got somewhat
dangerous because if we got cornered by the person who was it, we would try to make sure not to get
caught ― for example, jumping off of the play structures to run away. Four square, four corners,
waterfall and jump rope were all classic games that we played. Jump rope was a challenging game. We
would sing songs as we jumped rope like Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum , Ice Cream Soda , Miss Mary
Mack , or Cinderella and try to get the jumper to miss and even add different challenges to do while
you were jumping rope like in Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear :
Teddy bear, teddy bear,

time, I used to frequently go outside to play at the park, with my rabbits, read, watch TV, or play with

duration on 3614 subjects with Type 2 diabetes, who had records from eight years of follow up.
Subjects were classed into three age groups to determine the frequency of DR development and
progression to proliferative DR. The results indicated that the prevalence of DR increased with age but
when the stage of DR was considered, the results indicated that proliferative DR was decreasing with
age.
Haddad and Saad (1998) studied the prevalence of DR and its risk factors among 500 people with

DM duration, presence of ischaemic heart disease, systemic hypertension, high fasting glucose level,
high levels of urea, creatinine, cholesterol and triglycerides in the serum. However when the subjects

Why Do People Fall Under Nazi Rule
Under Nazi rule, most countries could do nothing but comply. They all had to fall under Nazi rule and
do as they said. That meant turning over their Jews and doing exactly as Hitler demanded. Some
people showed moral courage in the face of the Nazis instead, but rarely was there a whole country
that tried to save themselves before falling under German demand. However, there was one country
that didn t comply despite its disadvantage to Germany: Denmark resisted Nazi rule which shows a
great example of a whole country working together to save their people.
When Denmark was invaded during World War II, they decided to try and resist their rule instead of
comply with all of their demands. One of these was trying to take all of the Jews. An example of
saving them was Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz who was a German diplomat. When he learned that
Germany was planning to purge all of the Jews, he warned the country so that they were able to get

There are many stories about a single person or a small group of people who risked their lives to save
Jews during World War II. However, it is rare to see a whole country able to do such an amazing,
courageous thing for people living in their boarders. The Jews got government help to get away from
Nazi rule and not every country did this. This story is inspiring because it shows that even a whole
country and chose to do the right things when faced with an impossible choice. To most countries, it
seemed as if the only thing they could do was comply with Nazi orders and fall under their rule. For
Denmark, though, it was the opposite. They found it impossible to do anything but save their citizens.
This story can give us hope to resist a bigger force and ignore the consequences if it is for a better
cause. This shows how many people can come under a good moral direction: one toward helping
others for the sake of those in

The Effect Of Aggregate Demand On The Economy
As supported by the minutes released from the November meeting of the Federal Open market

the foreseeable future. The economy has returned to normalcy in terms of Consumer Price since the
hurricanes hit Florida and Texas, as evidenced by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers:
Gasoline(all types) which is portrayed in the graph below. The FOMC has also reported that inflation

The concern with the current slow growth of the Fed Funds Rate is that there is a similar pattern as
there was prior to the decline in 2008, where inflation tanked and the Fed Funds Rate, which was high
at 4.24% was not enough to halt the inflation drop. The similar pattern in inflation and the Fed Funds
Rate can be seen in the two graphs below. If the Federal Open Market Committee does not increase
the rate of the growing Fed Funds Rate within the next few quarters the likeliness of another recession
increases. Although it would not be as extensively damaging as the recession in 2008, a recession
would be nonetheless detrimental to the economy, as we would be set back in all the economical
progress that has been made in the past 10 years, as shown in the graphs above. Currently, the Federal
Reserve has set the rate to rest at a target range of 1 to 1 1/4 percent. The Federal Open Market
Committee acknowledged in their November meeting that inflation has more headway to make until it
is at the two percent mark they have set as a long term target. This situation contains both positive and
negative elements. A low inflation rate benefits consumer confidence, because consumers are easily
able to manage the gradual inflation and do not see change reflected in day to day consumption since
inflation rises slowly. However, with a low Federal Funds Rate, and the potential for inflation to

The Importance Of Life In Life
What are some things most people live life without enjoying? Most of the time, it is the small things in
life. Many people go through life, focusing on a big grand picture, but fail to enjoy the little moments
in life that make them happy for just a second or will amuse them for awhile. In my opinion, if you
live life worrying about what people think about you, or changing your lifestyle to fit in then you are
not really enjoying life.
I know this to be true because when I first moved to Heath, I was trying to fit in with people and made
myself more like them rather than show them who I truly am. I realized quickly that if they didn t like
me for me then they were not the people I should hang out with. When I got into high school, I was
acting more like myself and was enjoying the little things that made me laugh or made others laugh.
That ranged from being able to crack a joke sometimes to even just enjoying the music in the library
and dancing a little to have some fun. I really think that no matter what we do in life there should
always be some time to do things that are just fun and they don t have to be on a big scale of events.
One of the things I do is I compete in different athletic events, and there are times that the guys from
the team will all go do something and I will just take off and go on my own and sit to watch the world
around me, listening as the world carries on. Something I know that I am guilty of is living life in the

Cleisthenes As An Opportunist
Cleisthenes was the Athenian politician setting the stage of democracy around c.520 BC and to c.400
BC. An opportunist is defined by Oxford dictionaries as: A person who takes advantage of
opportunities as and when they arise, regardless of planning or principle . For many, this sums up the
rule of Cleisthenes as he took advantage of the anti tyrannical movement and of the power he was
given to improve the position of himself and his Alcmaeonid family. However, this essay will argue
that although Cleisthenes did take advantage of opportunities, he was ultimately very principled in
nature and was actually a reactionist. This is to say that he reacted to problems and events that
occurred and dealt with them the best he could, rather than taking advantage of the opportunity to
better himself, the elite classes or his family.
To many, Cleisthenes was simply an opportunist. One way he can be said to be opportunistic is during
his rise to power. This idea has stemmed from the ancient Greek author Herodotus, and in parts
Aristotle as well. On the whole, these are two ancient authors with semi opposing views, with
Herodotus being a stronger source for stating Cleisthenes was an opportunist. The main reason most
historians believe that Cleisthenes was an opportunist is because of the account from Herodotus
histories. The account is as follows: these two [Isagoras and Cleisthenes] were rivals for power, and
Cleisthenes, who was getting the worst of it, took the people into his

Not to mention, they need to eat for the energy typical of toddlers.
Without it, listlessness and fatigue will occur, stunting their development. Other symptoms of
nutritional deficiency may include crankiness, speech delays, and more frequent illnesses.
And what of those nutritional shakes that promise to help our kids get precious vitamins and calories?
They definitely work, but they re full of less than desirable ingredients. For example, one popular

Maltodextrin A thickener and preservative that can cause sugar spikes and impact healthy gut bacteria.
Carrageenan Another thickener/stabilizer which may be bad for digestion.
Artificial flavoring Addictive, lab created chemicals.
Monoglycerides Synthetic hydrogenated fat.

In the city of Kikwit, where Kimfumu fell ill, roughly 300,000 citizens were at risk (Contreras 49).
Only 300 miles away lies the capital city of Kinshasa, where 5 million people awaited the virus.
Luckily, the outbreak burned itself out after killing 245 in Kikwit last May, 1995 (Contreras 49). Of
those who died, three Red Cross volunteers and four nuns fell victim to the evil virus as a result of the
unsanitary medical conditions (49).
It is very important for people to realize why these deadly viruses keep evolving and reappearing.
Deforestation, climatic changes, and road building are just a few of the many man made changes
which can affect the normal state of things. Suddenly, people become exposed to unknown diseases
and viruses (Brownlee 61). It seems that as soon as medical experts cure a virus or clean up an
outbreak, another one quickly appears. Legionnaires disease, Lyme s disease, and hantavirus are just a
few examples of often deadly diseases scientists are being forced to fight (Caldwell 16).
When trying to detect what type of virus is attacking an organism, appearance is the most important
element. The Ebola virus looks like a thread with a loop at one end, sometimes in the shape of the

consistent. Along with the prospects of economic growth and development, countries aim to achieve
economic and social stability, poverty reduction, and an increase in labor provisions. As with many
developing countries, RTAs encounter a wide range of complications that hinder economic prosperity.
In some cases, RTAs that are formed with good intentions by countries who seek growth come to have
a negative effect on a country within the agreement. The following essay will provide an in depth
analysis on the impact the Dominican Republic Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA DR)
continues to have on Guatemala s preexisting social issue of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While CAFTA DR included human rights and environmental provisions, activists were angered about
the preexisting regulations in these countries, their lack of enforcement, and the minimal effect the
agreement would have on these issues. Despite this opposition, supporters of CAFTA DR promoted
the projected economic and security advantages that would be the direct result of free trade between
signatory countries through the elimination of tariffs and other trade barriers (Wade, 2007, p. 651).
With this hope, the ratification of CAFTA DR was passed and is currently in effect in every country
that signed the agreement.
An Outline of the Economic and Social Status of Guatemala Guatemala, located in Central America
bordering Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, is home to approximately 13 million people. After a long
civil war, a democratic form of government emerged accompanied by some economic development.
Although Guatemala is not considered one of the world s poorest countries, it has faced economic
hardship within the last several years. According to Chase Dunn (2000), on the basis of gross national
product per capita, [Guatemala] falls into the category the World Bank terms low to middle income
countries . But among countries in this category, Guatemala has one of the highest economic

Critique of a Research Article about Incarceration in the...
Background In a study of children that had a family member or family associate incarcerated prior to
their 18th birthday, Loper Nichols (2012) attempted to address the impact that such incarceration had
on such children. It was expected, consistent with previous literature, that household incarceration
would have an impact on academic outcomes. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the
relationship between household incarceration and two outcomes: failure to graduate high school and
extended school absence. Loper and Nichols (2012) examined three factors:
1. If youth with incarcerated household members experienced more social and economic adversity and
worse school outcomes than the rest of the sample.
2. Whether household member ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, this influence is not only related to the parents influence, but is extended to other close
relationship s in the child s household. Other theories that may explain how incarceration has an
impact on children are strain, attachment, social control, and stigma.
Loper and Nichols hypothesized that household incarceration would have a great impact on academic
outcomes of the children in the household.
Methods
There were several relevant variables used in this study. The control variables used were demographic,
socioeconomic, and other adversity variables such as sex, ethnicity, poverty status, mother s
educational attainment, cognitive ability, and home environment quality. The dependent variables in
this study were related to academic outcomes such as extended absences and failure to graduate from
high school. The independent variables used were parental incarceration, sibling incarceration, and
other household member s incarceration (Loper and Nichols, 2012). The study by Lopers and Nichols
was a longitudinal, study design using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, Child
and Youth survey (NLSY 2010), which included women and their children. According to Lopers and
Nichols, Out of the sample, 585 met criteria for the household incarceration status, to be compared to
2,753 individuals who did not experience household incarceration (p. 5). Furthermore, it

Professional Competence Of Eating Disorders
Professional Competence Question 1: If I was interested in learning more about eating disorders in
order to better help a client, I would utilize reliable sources on the Internet as well as reading books,
professional journals, government documents and publications, encyclopedias, monographs, published
by private agencies and organizations.... (Reamer, 2006, p. 195). It would also be beneficial to look up
and see if there would be any continuing education sessions that are about eating disorders. Contacting
other professionals who have experience working with eating disorders would also be beneficial.
These individuals might be social workers and they might even be doctors. Looking up evidence

The American Dream For A Black Man And A White Man
The racism against African Americans began in the 17th century, when the African slaves were
forcibly brought over by the British colonist to America. Even after slavery was outlawed, racism and
segregation was still present between the African American and White race. Many African American
activist fought and died for our equality such as Fredrick Douglas, Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcom
X, Rosa Parks, and Emmitt Teel. It is sad to say that even with all of the lives lost during boycotts, and
hate raids, racism still does exist.
Elevated white power does exist. I do not say that to be in any way racial or prejudice. Although, it is
a known fact that the power of being white does exist even in modern day society. The economic
competition between a black man and a white man is unequal. The economic wages given to a black
man and a white man are unequal. The American dream for a black man and a white man are in most
ways different. That still does not change the fact that I would have to break my back to get through
school in order to receive a piece of paper saying I m capable, when a white man education is paved
for him. It is despicable to say that I have been taught to accept that I have to work harder for what I
want, when some people are just given what they desire to have.
It is a shame that the African American race is stereotyped into this category of violence and
ignorance. Yes, there is a large quantity of African American people who are indeed violent and

Shadrach, Meshach, And Abednegory
The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is part of Daniel Chapter 3. It s about 3 guys,
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who refuse to worship this guy, Nebuchadnezzar s, idol. So they
are thrown into a fire as punishment. But due to their faith in God, they are saved from the fire. Then,
because of their faith in God, and have been rescued by him, Nebuchadnezzar promotes them and
admits he was wrong before. In the nonfiction account of this story (aka: Daniel Chapter 3 of the
bible); Nebuchadnezzar forces the people of Babalon to worship his idol whenever they heard the the
sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, [they were] to fall down
and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has ... Show more content on

king s command, and yielded up their bodies rather than h serve and worship any god except their own

of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for

Was Hitler Responsible For The Holocaust Essay
In spite of Adolf Hitler s critical role in the Holocaust, he was not directly responsible for the majority
of the horrors that the events created.
All of Germany had a solid reason for the persecution, if not extreme terrors that it included. After the
conclusion of World War One and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was launched into
a massive depression that devastated the country. Those who are suffering are bound to reach a state of
anger at some point, and at the beginning they were right to feel this sentiment. The neighboring
nations had set unfair and cruel requirements for Germany in the Treaty of Versailles, which ruined
their economy, resulting in massive inflation and extreme poverty. Thus, Germany was angry. The ...

Many Nazis were unnecessarily cruel to their prisoners and those they watched over. Citizens and
Nazis alike participated in Kristallnacht, even though little punishment would follow those who did
not take part as long as they did not protest. Mengele, for example, was not required by law to perform
cruel and unusual experiments on his people. Eichmann, Himmler, Jeckeln, Ilse Koch. These people
were not followers, they were leaders. Ilse Koch skinned her inmates at Buchenwald and used their
skins as pillow cushions and book covers. She encouraged the rape, murder, and torture of her girls,
thinking it to be great fun (whatculture.com 2). Jeckeln developed a system, force the prisoners to dig
a massive ditch, strip, lay down in the ditch, and be shot in their self dug grave (whatculture.com 1).
Jeckeln organised Babi Yar, where laughing soldiers beat the Jews to death and shot them in Jeckeln s
favorite way. It was said of Babi Yar that, Those who hesitated had their clothes ripped off of them by
force, and were kicked and struck with knuckledusters or clubs by the Germans, who seemed to be
drunk with fury in a sadistic sort of rage (Anatoli 106). These malevolent people led to horrors not
required nor even imagined by Hitler. They came only from the brains of these malicious, sadistic
monsters. Hitler may have encouraged his nation, but he did not directly cause this

The Key Differences Between Organic Foods And Gmos
This paper begins by providing key information and terms for the argument to provide a basic
understand of concepts of the key differences between organic foods and GMOs. The topics discussed
in this paper will include, but will not be limited to: safety regarding human consumption, regulatory
controls, and how these two different products are produced. To provide an overview of these
important topics, a distinct contrast will be made. The paper concludes with an overview of the topics
discussed and key ideas which can aid in a solution of the argument given. The abbreviation GMO

166). Even though such studies might be compelling, these findings need further research to fully
understand the effects of consumption. When the effects of consuming organic foods are examined, a
different outcome is discovered. According to Huber, Rembialkowska, Srednicka, Vijver (2011), a
large scale study named PARSIFAL concluded: children which consumed organic foods (regularly)
showed lower allergenic rates as well as lower body weights when compared to traditional or
engineered foods (Huber, Rembialkowska, Srednicka, Vijver 2011). With further research, other
positive results are discovered. Specifically, a study produced by Princeton reviled that consuming
organic foods lowered risks from chemical contamination, supplemental hormones, and antibiotic
risks ( Greening Princeton , n.d.). In contrast to GMOs, consuming organic foods were directly linked
to positive results, which helps solidify the argument that they are a safer and healthier option over
engineered foods. This conclusion also aids in the point of discussion (which will be reviewed below)
that stricter FDA guidelines need to be emplaced to protect American citizens from unknowingly
consuming GMO products; which could have possibly dangerous, unknown long term side effects.
The FDA s current labeling policy should be stricter in its guidance on the labeling of foods;
unequivocally, GMOs. First, we will examine the FDA s current labeling policy in regards to GMOs in

Analysis Of Catfish And Mandala By Andrew X
Sudden Exposure to the World
Catfish and Mandala is a narrative by Andrew X. Pham, representing his bicycle tour of Vietnam, with
his childhood memories of the place. The book characterizes the author s younger life in the country,
until when he later moved to America with his family. Upon moving to America, he encountered a
veteran of the Vietnam War, and it was the veteran s disturbed emotional state that prompted Andrew
to make various observations, among them, is the role of culture in people s life. He set to establish
the differences between the American and Vietnam cultures, which to him were conflicting and he felt
lost in between the two places (Pham 6).
In his search for an explanation for the differences, he came across many ... Show more content on

He realized that it would be quite difficult to reconcile his Vietnam past with his American present.
Andrew was faced with culture shock, which is a feeling of being disoriented, lonely, and anxious
when one is suddenly subjected to an unfamiliar culture, set of attitudes, or way of life (Wanning 294).
Pederson (7) explains that there are stages of culture shock, which he identifies as the honeymoon,
negotiation, adjustment, and adaptation. In the honeymoon phase, a person is likely to get excited
about being in a new place, meeting new people, tasting new foods, and acquiring new habits.
However, as time passes by, they get into a phase of negotiation, where the differences between the
culture one is used to and the one they find themselves in start to become apparent. Feelings of
anxiety, anger, and frustrations start to take shape as unfavorable events perceived as strange come in
the way of the person s life, especially if a person does not feel accepted in the new culture
(Mukherjee 273). Loneliness may set in, and the urge to go back to the familiar culture strongly comes
into play. However, as time goes by, adjustment sets in, usually within six to twelve months, and one
gets accustomed to the culture and also comes up with a routine. By this phase, one knows what is
expected of them, and life once again becomes normal.

Organ Donation Case Study Essay
Organ Allocation Case Study: Correctional Healthcare
Healthcare workers and the ethics board make tough decisions that impact the patient s future,
especially related to organ allocation. Organ transplantation is extremely important in order to save
lives, prolong survival, and increase the quality of life (Beyar, 2017). Each year the number of people
on the waiting list continues to rise at an alarming rate. According to the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services, organ donation statistics show that more than 116,000 people are awaiting
organs. The number has risen significantly every year (Health Resources Services Administration
{HRSA}, 2016). In 2016, it was reported that approximately 41,335 organ donations were made, and

uninsured 59 year old on disability who has severe ischemic cardiomyopathy (causing systemic

coronary artery disease that caused two previous myocardial infarctions.
A person s age and their lifestyle can impact overall organ transplant success. Physiologic age impacts
major organ systems such as the kidneys and other underlying medical problems (Eisen, 2017). Mr.
Smith is 26 years older with declining health. On the other hand, Mr. Rodriquez is a healthy individual
with mild hypertension. Physical inactivity can be associated with an increased risk of morbidity or
worsening chronic disease and health conditions such as cardiovascular disease and congestive heart
failure (Warren et al., 2010). According to the article from the National Center for Biotechnology
Information (NCBI), alcohol consumption plays a role in the development of heart failure. Excessive
drinking leads to alcoholic cardiomyopathy (Djoussé Gaziano, 2008). Alcoholic cardiomyopathy is
characterized by left ventricular dilation, increased left ventricular mass, and reduced or normal left
ventricular wall thickness (Djoussé Gaziano, 2008). Mr. Smith s heavy consumption of alcohol may
become detrimental to his heart, liver, and kidney function. His comorbidities and

Suspicion Exposed In The Lottery, By Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson, an American gothic writer, was born in San Francisco in 1919. She enrolled at the
University of Rochester in New York, dropped out after a couple years, and later in 1937, enrolled at
Syracuse University, initiating a career of a lifetime. Jackson seized bits of her writing from her
lifetime obsession with mental anguish ( Introduction ). Her tales reflect a flawless surface and as the
reader dives deeper, the image becomes distorted. Suspicion grows. Now the reader is entangled in
pure terror. Shirley Jackson spun a fascinating spider web, in The Lottery, which proves true to this
day. It deals with the belief that if the community sacrifices one of its own, the gods will provide a
bountiful harvest. Lottery in June,

Taking a Look at Morality
Morality has always been defined as the rules or standards governing the conduct of a human being
according to the society and it selves. However, some people think that in order to have a strong
morality one must first have a religion. On the other hands, others believe that there is no such thing as
a having morals only if religion is involved. It s hard to analyze because for many years we have been
thought to believe that religion is a way of spirituality that will help our lives instead of corrupting it. I
think that the main purpose of every religion is to help their neighbors and promote their God as the
fully good and omnipotent which I think it s a great action from the proclaimers of God. However, the
fact that many religions are created to do good things that doesn t mean that they always end up doing
great things or that only those whom have a religion are capable of doing good things, or having good
morals, therefore any one religious or non religious can be moral.
I believe that morals, ethics, and principles fell in the same category even though they have their
differences. However, their main similarity is that the three of them are characteristics of every human
being that were first conceived at home because is there where our education starts. We will move to
each of the stages of life, especially those where it starts or where it all started and see how each
makes its contribution to the formation of the individual, because they are not educated for a

  • 2. Math Reflection I come from a family of critical thinkers and problem solvers and ever since I was young I was put in situations where I had to use my critical problem solving skills or had to answer any questions my mother threw at me. Some of these questions would be the application of math in real life. I would have to calculate change and taxes on things my mom bought or calculate the sale percentage on an item. As a kid, I thought these were another one mom my mother s ploys to my life about learning. When I look back I wish I could go back and tell my 8 year old self to pay attention because this real world application of math is something I wouldn t explicitly learn in school. Throughout my primary and secondary schooling math and I would have a love hate relationship, often being a class dreaded though sometimes offering a sense of wonder and excitement. In my earliest memory of math, I was learning my multiplication tables. What I remember is the dedication from my third grade teacher as she had stations for each number that went all the way to twelve. I also remember the timed quizzes we had to take as conquered a new number and ability to move at our own pace. It was always like a competition, when someone or a group was ready to move on everything stopped and the class watched to see if they would make time. My memory does not recall whether it was difficult or the what pace I went at but, it does recall how much fun I had. In this case I don t think it was the multiplication ... • 3. Danshui Essay The Australasian Accounting Business Finance Journal, February 2007 Gaffikin: Accounting Research and Theory: the age of neo empiricism. Vol. 1, No.1.pp. 1 19. Accounting Research and Theory: The age of neo empiricism Michael Gaffikin, School of Accounting Finance, University of Wollongong ABSTRACT The theorising in accounting prior to 1970 was rejected as not providing sufficiently general theories. Informed by theories in economics and finance (and other disciplines such as psychology) and with the aid of computers, attempts to theorise accounting took a new direction. Large data collection and analysis emphasized a purportedly more systematic empirical approach to developing theory. Key words: accounting; neo empiricism; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned, the dominating characteristic was empiricism. It is neo (new) because, although earlier research had relied on empiricism in that it sought to establish theory from best practice, the emphasis after 1970 was on a more systematic use of empirical evidence. This was largely made possible with the availability of large financial databases to which sophisticated statistical techniques were applied to test hypotheses. This, in turn, was greatly facilitated by the increasing availability and use of computers. 1 The Australasian Accounting Business Finance Journal, February 2007 Gaffikin: Accounting Research and Theory: the age of neo empiricism. Vol. 1, No.1. pp. 1 17. All neo empirical accounting research has the underlying assumption of the efficiency of markets the efficient markets hypothesis (EMH). It is referred to as an hypothesis because despite more than forty years of research designed to test the hypothesis all attempts to date have failed to confirm it. Therefore, consistent with the generally accepted process of theory construction which states (simply) that a theory is a confirmed hypothesis, it remains an hypothesis. The EMH emerged in the 1960s from the work of researchers at the University of Chicago trained in economics and finance and working in the areas known as portfolio theory and employing the capital assets pricing model (CAPM). It was then taken up by accountants also working and studying at the University of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Romeo Is Completely to Blame for the Tragic Outcome in the... Romeo is completely to blame for the tragic outcome in the play. William Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet is without doubt one of the most well known love story. Throughout the five acts of the play, one tragedy follows another, with the famous suicide of Romeo and Juliet as a tragic conclusion. Throughout the play, it may seem that Romeo caused these events to unfold, however it is unjust to say that he bears all responsibility for the tragedy. The decisions, actions and circumstances that other characters made and faced have also contributed to the tragic outcome. Nevertheless, it is also in the hands of fate that destined the immature deaths of Romeo and Juliet Juliet s conceding to a forbidden relationship with Romeo was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, chance and misfortune could ve been factors giving fate a helping hand. It could be by chance that Romeo and Juliet were to meet at the ball. And it was unfortunate that the letter could not reach Romeo as there is a plague spreading and Friar John was forbidden to leave Verona. Before they were born Romeo and Juliet were chosen as agents of fate, and that it would be a death marked love . Romeo himself admits that he is driven by fate: I fear too early for my mind misgives / Some consequences yet hanging in the stars (Act1 Scene4 Lines106 107). However, even if Romeo and Juliet did not meet at the Capulets ball, fate could make the star crossed lovers meet at another time, as an important task has to be fulfilled as the result of this death mark d love . Another major factor in the play is the family feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. Without the feud, the young lovers may be together and may not have to act is such desperation that had driven them to commit suicide. The feud has a direct impact on the actions characters decide from the very beginning, thus, it is another important deciding factor regarding the outcome of the play. Because both Romeo and Juliet feel intense passion for each other, they behave in a very hasty and dangerous manner. And despite Friar Lawrence s warning to Romeo: Wisely and slow, they stumble that run ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Theme Of Paranoia In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time Beyond the elements of any story, there is always a reevaluation about life or central characters. Theme always includes a statement upon the notation of abstract qualities through the embodiment of the writer. As presented in Once Upon a Time, the central insight to the plot suffices to the crude development of the character who overcompensates the emotion of paranoia, executed by the natural dangers of the outside world. Author Nadine Gordimer generalizes the concept of the psychosis based on the parallelism between the fear of the character to the fear of the mother in her dream. Notably, she illustrates the gruesome reality of human nature, that she echoes the subconscious mind to her bedtime story. Granted under the idea of theme, the escapades of Once Upon a Time adds on to the primary purpose of distressed emotion. Gordimer unifies the human nature of fear to her story based on the personal experience of herself at home. For instance, ..I was reading every faintest sound, identifying and classifying its possible threat (Gordimer 231). With this in mind, we can correlate to the theme of society countervailing the excessive obsession of pessimism. As a result, she attentively entices the audience through her vision of a practical utopian civilization. The door in the main entrance is easily opened, but I did notice one way that could make entering the building a little difficult for someone who is in a wheelchair or cannot move very quickly. In order to unlock the main door, an electronic key fob needs to be scanned on a scanner. The scanner is inconveniently located too far away for a person to remain in the same place to scan their key fob and open the door at the same time. Since the scanner only unlocks the door momentarily, the door would most likely lock itself by the time someone who had issues with mobility was able to reach the door handle and open the door. This could be fixed by increasing the amount of time the door remains unlocked after scanning the key fob or by moving the key fob scanner closer to the door handle. I also noticed that if someone is trying to enter the leasing office, the door is incredibly difficult to open even for people who do not have any accessibility issues. The three major rationalists, Rene Descartes, Baruch Spinoza and Gottfried Welhelm Leibniz, used this idea in order to defy skepticism and expose the true nature of reality. However, each philosopher is frequently in disagreement. The idea for God , and what constitutes substance, matter and reality are the four key structural beliefs that aid each rationalist in the forming of their arguments. So, relatedly, the monad must not only exhibit properties, but contain within itself virtually or potentially all the properties it will exhibit in the future, and also contain the trace of all the properties it did exhibit in the past. In Leibniz s extraordinary phrase, found frequently in his later work, the monad is pregnant with the future and laden with the past (Monadology, p22). All these properties are folded up within the monad, and they unfold when and as they have sufficient reason to do so. (Monadology p61) The network of explanation is indivisible to divide it would either leave some predicates without a sufficient reason, or merely separate two substances that never belonged together in the first place. Correspondingly, the monad is one, simple and indivisible. Everything we perceive around us, which is a unified being, must be a single monad. Everything else is a composite of many monads. My coffee cup, for example, is made of many monads (an infinite number, actually). In everyday life, we tend to call it a single thing only because the monads all act together. The Pros And Cons Of Climate Change Climate Change Rough Draft Richard Hilderman, who has a P.H.D in microbiology, said The 20th Century has been warmer than any other time period in the last 400 years (60+). Climate change has been brought upon by the burning of fossil fuels, which releases greenhouse gases (Hilderman 60+). The greenhouse gases then make a blanket surrounding the earth, which traps heat, making the world warmer (Hilderman 60+). Even though there are some overstated facts regarding climate change, policies to stop it would have a positive effect on the job and economic market, and climate change is the most pressing issue of today that needs more attention and worldwide policies to combat it. Climate change has shown itself in many different ways. For instance, the global temperature has gone up little by little since 1880 (Shaftel). This then accumulated to an increase of 1 degree Celsius in 2015 (Shaftel). The global temperature rise shows that the earth is heating up due to the heat being trapped by the greenhouse blanket created by humans. An alternative treatment to type 2 diabetes is insulin therapy since it is difficult to achieve desired glucose levels due to increased spread of the disease. Stem cells therapy has been considerd as an alternative stratergy for replacement of damaged cells , example embryonic stem cells , bone marrow stem cells etc. Initially to cure type 1 diabetes , insulin producing cells were created by transducing bone marrow stem cells with the pancreatic duodenal homobox (Pdx1) gene. Although this experiment was successful in normalizing glucose levels in streptozotocin induced diabetic mice, the low level of insulin production and the unlikeliness of producing the culture conditions in vivo make this approach unfit for clinical applications. Moreover, there was only a modest improvement in blood glucose levels by using experiments done by western blot, immunofluorscence and RT PCR. We need to further tune this treatment strategy to improve blood glucose levels to be able to beat the insulin therapy. How Do People Make the Decision To Cheat? To start with, human sexuality is incredibly complex. Decisions about our sexual behavior are typically not planned in advance. Few people intentionally plan on committing infidelity (at least not the first time it happens). When making promises to be faithful, most people are serious and have every intention of keeping their word. But while people generally have the best intentions when making such promises, human behavior is not always governed by the fact that vows were taken and that promises were made. When it comes to making decisions about love and betrayal, logic and reason have a difficult time competing with our emotions for control. In the end, Pip was able to shake of his juvenile desire and act responsibly. The growth Pip experienced as he broke free of the chains of Satis House and Estella is immense and life changing. Pip finally realizes the appalling behaviors he has shown to those that gave him nothing but love. • 17. Bandura And Observational Learning The development of social cognitive is perhaps the most important part of developing and learning. I think Bandura came up with a good reinforcement to learning that goes direct to helping people learn by observation. There are three styles of vicarious learning that we expect to change our learning patterns by observation. They are modeling effect, inhibitory and disinhibitory effect, and eliciting effect. Modeling effect help you to duplicate the behavior you observe and it come from social learning theory. It s occur when new behavior happen and the model doesn t have prior knowledge of the behavior that is being displayed. I think this is the reason children follow parents and role models to eliminate their behavior. This is important because learning come with rewards and punishment and behavior both positive and negative follows. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I know I can relate to this because most of my family always drink alcohol and now I don t drink because I know what will happened from the past experiences. Disinhibitory effect occurs when someone see a person doing something they is wrong and they have refrained from doing the same thing until they observe them doing it. This will encourage them to follow another child from displayed this bad behavior they feel compelled to do the same thing, because the other child may have gotten away with it. These descriptors are used in grocery stores across the United States of America and are a major component of guiding consumers through their purchasing decisions. However, since these labels usually appear without any description, how do consumers know what do these labels really mean? Furthermore, how do food producers and their governing organizations decide when a label can be applied? The meat, egg, and produce industry are all affected by this nomenclature system. Therefore, the everyday consumer comes in contact with these labels every time they make a food purchase and often rely on them to help them make the healthier and more ethical food choice. But are these labels really denoting ethical sourcing, improved health benefits, and how strictly is the labeling regulated? The rise of organic farming in the United States came about following the general push to return to a more natural way of life in the late 1960s and 1970s. This was really a return to the traditional farming methods that were used exclusively until the rise of industrial farming in the 1920s. A major force behind this movement was science writer, Rachel Carson who published Silent Spring in 1962 (History). The similar pattern in inflation and the Fed Funds Rate can be seen in the two graphs below. If the Federal Open Market Committee does not increase the rate of the growing Fed Funds Rate within the next few quarters the likeliness of another recession increases. Many people go through life, focusing on a big grand picture, but fail to enjoy the little moments in life that make them happy for just a second or will amuse them for awhile. In my opinion, if you live life worrying about what people think about you, or changing your lifestyle to fit in then you are not really enjoying life. • 32. Cleisthenes As An Opportunist Cleisthenes was the Athenian politician setting the stage of democracy around c.520 BC and to c.400 BC. An opportunist is defined by Oxford dictionaries as: A person who takes advantage of opportunities as and when they arise, regardless of planning or principle . For many, this sums up the rule of Cleisthenes as he took advantage of the anti tyrannical movement and of the power he was given to improve the position of himself and his Alcmaeonid family. However, this essay will argue that although Cleisthenes did take advantage of opportunities, he was ultimately very principled in nature and was actually a reactionist. This is to say that he reacted to problems and events that occurred and dealt with them the best he could, rather than taking advantage of the opportunity to better himself, the elite classes or his family. To many, Cleisthenes was simply an opportunist. One way he can be said to be opportunistic is during his rise to power. This idea has stemmed from the ancient Greek author Herodotus, and in parts Aristotle as well. On the whole, these are two ancient authors with semi opposing views, with Herodotus being a stronger source for stating Cleisthenes was an opportunist. The main reason most historians believe that Cleisthenes was an opportunist is because of the account from Herodotus histories. This paper will prove that the Ebola virus is a serious problem facing the world s population. In the United States today, we are not at risk for being infected; however, it is better to be prepared for the worst than to be caught off guard. AIDS was the first of these African viruses to escape the wilds of the Third World and harm others in the world. AIDS was ignored for too long before it began its global rampage. Only 300 miles away lies the capital city of Kinshasa, where 5 million people awaited the virus. Luckily, the outbreak burned itself out after killing 245 in Kikwit last May, 1995 (Contreras 49). Of those who died, three Red Cross volunteers and four nuns fell victim to the evil virus as a result of the unsanitary medical conditions (49). It is very important for people to realize why these deadly viruses keep evolving and reappearing. Deforestation, climatic changes, and road building are just a few of the many man made changes which can affect the normal state of things. Suddenly, people become exposed to unknown diseases and viruses (Brownlee 61). It seems that as soon as medical experts cure a virus or clean up an outbreak, another one quickly appears. Legionnaires disease, Lyme s disease, and hantavirus are just a few examples of often deadly diseases scientists are being forced to fight (Caldwell 16). When trying to detect what type of virus is attacking an organism, appearance is the most important element. The Ebola virus looks like a thread with a loop at one end, sometimes in the shape of the number six (6) (Guntheroth 36). First, the virus attacks the healthy cells of the human body and invades their nucleus. Next, the virus genetic code is injected into the nucleus, and the previously healthy cell becomes ... Along with the prospects of economic growth and development, countries aim to achieve economic and social stability, poverty reduction, and an increase in labor provisions. As with many developing countries, RTAs encounter a wide range of complications that hinder economic prosperity. In some cases, RTAs that are formed with good intentions by countries who seek growth come to have a negative effect on a country within the agreement. While CAFTA DR included human rights and environmental provisions, activists were angered about the preexisting regulations in these countries, their lack of enforcement, and the minimal effect the agreement would have on these issues. Despite this opposition, supporters of CAFTA DR promoted the projected economic and security advantages that would be the direct result of free trade between signatory countries through the elimination of tariffs and other trade barriers (Wade, 2007, p. 651). With this hope, the ratification of CAFTA DR was passed and is currently in effect in every country that signed the agreement. It was expected, consistent with previous literature, that household incarceration would have an impact on academic outcomes. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the relationship between household incarceration and two outcomes: failure to graduate high school and extended school absence. The American Dream For A Black Man And A White Man The racism against African Americans began in the 17th century, when the African slaves were forcibly brought over by the British colonist to America. Even after slavery was outlawed, racism and segregation was still present between the African American and White race. Many African American activist fought and died for our equality such as Fredrick Douglas, Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcom X, Rosa Parks, and Emmitt Teel. It is sad to say that even with all of the lives lost during boycotts, and hate raids, racism still does exist. Elevated white power does exist. I do not say that to be in any way racial or prejudice. Although, it is a known fact that the power of being white does exist even in modern day society. The economic competition between a black man and a white man is unequal. The economic wages given to a black man and a white man are unequal. The American dream for a black man and a white man are in most ways different. That still does not change the fact that I would have to break my back to get through school in order to receive a piece of paper saying I m capable, when a white man education is paved for him. It is despicable to say that I have been taught to accept that I have to work harder for what I want, when some people are just given what they desire to have. When the effects of consuming organic foods are examined, a different outcome is discovered. According to Huber, Rembialkowska, Srednicka, Vijver (2011), a large scale study named PARSIFAL concluded: children which consumed organic foods (regularly) showed lower allergenic rates as well as lower body weights when compared to traditional or engineered foods (Huber, Rembialkowska, Srednicka, Vijver 2011). With further research, other positive results are discovered. Specifically, a study produced by Princeton reviled that consuming organic foods lowered risks from chemical contamination, supplemental hormones, and antibiotic risks ( Greening Princeton , n.d.). In contrast to GMOs, consuming organic foods were directly linked to positive results, which helps solidify the argument that they are a safer and healthier option over engineered foods. This conclusion also aids in the point of discussion (which will be reviewed below) that stricter FDA guidelines need to be emplaced to protect American citizens from unknowingly consuming GMO products; which could have possibly dangerous, unknown long term side effects. The FDA s current labeling policy should be stricter in its guidance on the labeling of foods; unequivocally, GMOs. Pederson (7) explains that there are stages of culture shock, which he identifies as the honeymoon, negotiation, adjustment, and adaptation. In the honeymoon phase, a person is likely to get excited about being in a new place, meeting new people, tasting new foods, and acquiring new habits. However, as time passes by, they get into a phase of negotiation, where the differences between the culture one is used to and the one they find themselves in start to become apparent. Feelings of anxiety, anger, and frustrations start to take shape as unfavorable events perceived as strange come in the way of the person s life, especially if a person does not feel accepted in the new culture (Mukherjee 273). Loneliness may set in, and the urge to go back to the familiar culture strongly comes into play. However, as time goes by, adjustment sets in, usually within six to twelve months, and one gets accustomed to the culture and also comes up with a routine. However, some people think that in order to have a strong morality one must first have a religion. On the other hands, others believe that there is no such thing as a having morals only if religion is involved. It s hard to analyze because for many years we have been thought to believe that religion is a way of spirituality that will help our lives instead of corrupting it. I think that the main purpose of every religion is to help their neighbors and promote their God as the fully good and omnipotent which I think it s a great action from the proclaimers of God. However, the fact that many religions are created to do good things that doesn t mean that they always end up doing great things or that only those whom have a religion are capable of doing good things, or having good morals, therefore any one religious or non religious can be moral. I believe that morals, ethics, and principles fell in the same category even though they have their differences. However, their main similarity is that the three of them are characteristics of every human being that were first conceived at home because is there where our education starts.
