Democracy Derailed Essay
Democracy Derailed looks at the initiative process, the effects of that process and asked the question,
Is this a good way to make public policy? I feel that even though the process is not perfect it is a great
way to allow the average citizen more power in policy making.
The History
Democracy Derailed begins with addressing the evolution of the initiative process. During the first
twenty years in Plymouth Colonies, all adult men met to consider legislation. In 1715, Massachusetts
had to address anything that was supported by ten citizens. By 1788, Massachusetts began conducting
referendums, and by the 1850 s, referendums had become an acceptable practice. By the end of the
1800 s, direct legislation in states had become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The common ground that all members shared was their dislike and distrust for Democrats,
Republicans, banks and monopolists. They felt that these groups were controlled by extreme
corruption and infested legislatures with bribes to maintain control and power.
Both groups chose the initiative to help clean up governmental corruption, inspired by its use in
Switzerland. The Webster s Dictionary defines initiative as, the introduction of proposed legislation, as
to popular vote, by voters petitions. This is what dre3w both the Populists and Progressives to
migrating initiatives to the United States. The popular theory was that if voters would gain education
and curiosity connected to public affairs. Initiatives seemed like the logical solution to allow power
directly aback in the people s hands. Woodrow Wilson wrote that, the men who have been ruling
America must consent to let majority into the game...We will not allow the few to continue to
determine what the policy of the country is to be...all men with the convictions of America in their
hearts, will crowd to that standard and a new day of achievement may come for the liberty we love.
Wilson was just one politician to believe that initiatives could help American government. Theodore

Overtones In To Kill A Mockingbird
Harper Lee is a fan of using subtle undertones and overtones everywhere in her book To Kill a
Mockingbird. A good example of this is with the quote Sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is
worse than a whiskey bottle in the hand of [another]...There are just some kind of men...who re so
busy worrying about the next world they ve never learned to live in this one, and you can look down
the street and see the results. (pg. 60). This quote, as a stand alone, gets gears turning, but once it s
paired with the rest of the book, it gives an entirely new perspective on a problem that so many people
ignore or don t notice. Her book is completely littered with examples that back up this quote and it s
intended meaning. A few examples of this is when the foot washers call Miss Maudie and her flowers
a sin, when the foot washers quote scripture to Miss Maudie and she quotes some right back, when
Mrs. Farrow talks about the blacks as if they are wild animals, when Mrs. Merriweather talks about
the cooks and field hands grumbling after Tom s Trials and when Jem is explaining to Dill why
Dolphus Raymond is somewhat of a town outcast.
Some of the extremely devout people (the foot washers for example), tend to be more worried about
the next life instead of enjoying the one they currently have. By preferring to be inside reading the
Bible instead of outdoors enjoying life and wanting others to do the same, they show how the Bible
gives the ability to be scrutinized less by peers. But

Achieving My Educational Goals
Reflecting back to my senior year, when I had to make the decision of which college I will attend in
the fall of 2015. In order to make my decision I had to take into account of what my educational goal
were, which career path I wanted to pursue, and how the university will help me to achieve my goals.
My educational goal consisted of graduating from high school; purse a Bachelor of Business
Administration majoring in accounting, and obtain a Master degree in Business Administration. After
graduating from college, some of my career goal is to work for BP as their accountant. After working
for several years, I would go back to school to get certified as Public Accountant. After obtaining my
CPA, the next step in my career will be find a job

Developmental Disability
Near the end of the year of 2000, Bill Clinton signed the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and
Bill of Rights Act. President Clinton built upon the legislation written during earlier decades , to
improve services for people with developmental disabilities. This act helped support people with

The Pros And Cons Of The Indian Removal Act Of 1830
The Indian Removal Act of 1830, championed by President Andrew Jackson, called for the relocation
of numerous native American tribes to lands west of the Mississippi River to land for white settlers.
Although the bill was extremely controversial, it was passed, and entire Indian tribes were forced to
move. Due to the hardship and suffering the Indian Removal Act of 1830 caused Indian peoples, as
well as the fact that it was unnecessary, unconstitutional, and immoral, it should not have been passed.
Firstly, the negative effects of the bill on native Americans far outweighed the benefits it might have
had for second people. Secondly, the bill violated numerous treaties between the U.S. government and
Indian tribes and was thus unconstitutional. Lastly, the bill was immoral due to the fact that Indian
leaders were not allowed a voice in their own future and the inherent racism involved in the decision.
One of the main arguments opponents of the Indian Removal Act of 1830 voiced was that, at its most
basic level, the removal bill was not necessary. The main purpose of the act was to provide more land
for an increasing population of white American citizens; more land, the government believed, would
help expand the American economy. Proponents of the bill, such as President Andrew Jackson (who
ratified the act), claimed that the land occupied by the Indians would be put to better use as part of our
extensive Republic, studded with cities, towns, and all the improvements which art can devise... .
However, while those who supported the bill used nationalistic attitudes to justify their position, others
found that removing the Indian peoples was not necessary to achieve economic growth. As
Massachusetts Congressman Edward Everett and others emphasized, it was possible for white settlers
to thrive while leaving Cherokee peoples on the land that was rightfully theirs; it was greed, not
necessity, that motivated the people to demand more land. The removal bill should not have been
passed because although the white population benefitted from the removal of the Indians, this benefit
was not worth the hardship the Indians endured as a result. The benefit of white citizens should not
have been prioritized over the well being

Wyatt Earp Essay
Tombstone , the Wonderful Western About Wyatt Earp You ve called down the thunder, well now you
ve got it, shouted Wyatt Earp to the cowboys, in the movie about his life, Tombstone. As you can tell
by Wyatt Earp s famous quote, Tombstone is a violent, interesting, and crazy movie. Tombstone is a
movie full of fighting, death, reckless cowboys, guns, and more, in the city of Tombstone. It is
attention grabbing, and once you start watching it, you won t ever want to stop. Although Tombstone
is usually upbeat and full of fighting, it does have sad moments. Overall, this movie is about Wyatt

Tombstone is not only limited to history fans though, it is a very intriguing and fun to watch movie,
and most people would enjoy it. I would not recommend this movie to people afraid of violence,
because there is a lot of shooting and goriness throughout this film. Tombstone is rated R, so I would
also not recommend this to younger people, because of the violence and language. Overall, I really
enjoyed watching this film. I felt like I learned a lot about western life, and the violence that occured.
All of the scenes were very well done, and I did not get bored while watching. The movie seemed very
realistic, especially in the battling scenes. All of the actors in Tombstone did a fascinating job and
portrayed their character very well. I also believe the movie was well put together, and all of the
different scenes flowed together great. Tombstone was very fun to watch, and I learned a lot while
watching it. If I had to rate Tombstone, I would give it 8 stars out of 10. All of the scenes were
entertaining, the acting was excellent, there was not an overload of violence, it was realistic, and it
was put together very well. Although this movie did have a great deal of good points, it did have its
poor ones. At a few points during the movie, I became confused. To be more specific, during the
showdown scene, I was confused on who was a cowboy, and who was not. I also grew confused

Aggregate Supply Curve
AGGREGATE DEMAND, AGGREGATE SUPPLY, FISCAL
AND MONETARYPOLICY
Q No 1. Explain why the Aggregate Supply curve is upward sloping in the short run and vertical in the
long run?
Aggregate supply is the total supply of goods and services produced by any firm in a country for
economic plan and sell these goods and services during a year. These goods and services are willing to
sell at a given price by firms.
Short Run Aggregate Supply Curve
In short run, the aggregate supply curve will go upward because there are two main reasons due to
which quantity supplied increases with the increase in price.
Firstly, the curve is used for nominal variable like wage rate and in short run, the nominal wage rate is
fixed which resulted in higher profits that give expansion in the output. ... Show more content on

When demand is at low level, large number of production does not use their fixed capital equipment
then the result will be increase in production without diminishing returns. So average price level does
not increase but production increases. When demand is increased, the prices will increase which
results in a steep curve.
Long Run in Aggregate Supply Curve
In long run, aggregate supply is affected from capital, labor and technology because everything is
assumed to be used optimally at this point. In long run, aggregate supply curve is perfectly vertical
which economists belief that changes in aggregate demand is the only reason of temporary change in
total output. In long run, only one quantity will be supplied and wage rate varies with economic
conditions i.e. high unemployment leads to fall in nominal wage rate and vice

Who Is Big Brother s Marionette In 1984

All citizens in the ordinary world of 1984 do not, or acts as if they do not realize that every aspect of
their lives are being controlled by a symbolic government figure named Big Brother. By portraying a
decisive potentate, the government is able to manage citizen s lives as if they are all marionettes.
Many different mind control techniques are executed upon the society in 1984, such as the novel s
telescreens and the brainwashing of children; however, doublethink surpasses them all in terms of
conveying George Orwell s intended subject of psychological manipulation, which proves that it is
possible to believe anything that the government tells them, even while possessing information that
runs counter to propaganda.
A slogan from the Party that occurs throughout the novel and is the basic introduction to the idea of
doublethink is WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH (Orwell,

4.2 Implementation Details 4.2.1 Data Source Random Bernoulli generator generates binary data on a

Data Source 4.2.2 Forward Error Correction Coding A typical problem in OFDM based systems is a
high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). The available RF power amplifiers usually have a limited
linear dynamic range. This is not a problem for constant amplitude signals, however, in OFDM, due to
IFFT operation, some of the sub carriers add constructively to large amplitudes while others add
destructively. The amplitude of the signals thus varies randomly and for large amplitude signals, non
linear amplifications cause errors. Therefore, error correction codes are employed. In HiperLan2, the
data is coded with a convolutional encoder of rate 1/2. The convolutional encoder uses the industry
standard generator polynomials, g0 = 1338 and g1 = 1718, and is shown in Figure 4.3. The bit denoted
as A is the first output from the encoder while the bit denoted B is the second one. Higher code rates
are derived via puncturing. In puncturing, some of the encoded bits in the transmitter are removed ...

symbol, four pilot signals are inserted in order to make the coherent detection robust against frequency
offsets and phase noise. The pilots are BPSK modulated by a pseudo binary sequence to prevent the
generation of spectral lines [18]. A zero padded block adds zeros, in the right places, to adjust the
IFFT bin size to length N. Selector block rearranges the sub carriers so that real signal output can be

Catalase And Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction Lab

Abstract
This lab served to demonstrate the catalase catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water
and oxygen gas under different reaction conditions. This included the investigation of the effects of
enzyme concentration, temperature, substrate concentration, and presence of inhibitors on the initial
reaction velocity. Because this catalase hydrogen peroxide reaction is important in biological systems,
this lab demonstrates the importance of maintaining homeostasis in cells to provide optimal conditions
for these reactions. The experiments were carried out using a eudiometer and primarily concluded that

Exp. Experiment s Second Introduction
This lab served to demonstrate the reaction between the enzyme catalase and hydrogen peroxide under
different environmental conditions and the addition of an inhibitor. This is an important reaction in
biological systems. Hydrogen peroxide serves many important roles in the body such as acting in
signaling between cells, controlling inflammation at sites of injury (Halliwell et al. 2000), and cardio
myogenesis (Seonmin et al. 2011). While important, hydrogen peroxide in excess can break down to
hydroxide radicals and cause damage to DNA and other tissues (Halliwell et al. 2000). Because of
this, hydrogen peroxide in cells must be regulated and this is done by catalase. Catalase is an enzyme
that catalyzes the dissociation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas, preventing the
formation of oxidizing hydroxide radicals (Yang et al. 2002). It does this by binding to the hydrogen
peroxide.

Literary Techniques Used in a Very Old Man with Enormous...
Literary Analysis: A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings In the story, A Very Old Man with
Enormous Wings, writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez intertwines the supernatural with the natural in an
amazing manner. This essay analyzes how Marquez efficiently utilizes an exceptional style and
imaginative tone that requests the reader to do a self introspection on their life regarding their
responses to normal and abnormal events. Marquez sets the tone of the story with an occurrence that is
unusual and unsolicited: a newborn caught in bad weather. The introductory writing style is striking as
Marquez gives a hint of the bad weather: The world had been sad since Tuesday. (Márquez 13) He
introduces a supernatural element by describing a bizarre old man with massive wings. He shatters the
assumption that angels are powerful and divine by describing the old man stuck in the mud as,
...impeded by his enormous wings (Márquez 13) and unable to free himself. Marquez uses irony as an
element of tone to show the reader that the wings, which were supposed to aid the man, are now his
source of anguish. It is evident when a woman, having concluded that the peculiar old man was an
angel, decides to put him to death by bludgeoning. Marquez utilizes ironic wording in describing the
actions of the couple who felt noble after their decision to put the old man on a raft with food and
leave him to his fate on the high seas. (Márquez 14) In sections of the story, Marquez s tone indicates
regret.

Inattentional Blindness Paper
Abstract
Introduction
Imagine walking down the street on your cell phone and you walk past a tree filled with money
unknowingly. You d think it d be impossible to miss a tree full of money but a previous study shows
that nearly all individuals who were walking by the tree walked directly past the money without notice
(Hyman, Sarb Wise Swanson, 2014). This process is called Inattentional blindness (IB). Inattentional
blindness is the process of not seeing salient objects although we are looking directly at them as our
attention is directed at something else (Mack, 2003).
People often exaggerate their ability of detection in IB situations. Levin and Angelone (2008) found
that people vastly exaggerated their detection ability in an experiment they conducted. The experiment
consisted of asking people whether they think they would see the gorilla in the Simons and Chabris
experiment. 88% of the participants within the experiment said they would see it in comparison to
what was found in that experiment: 42% of people saw the gorilla. Similarly, Jaeger, Levin ... Show

Emergency Contraceptive Pills ( Ecps )
Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECPs) is a widely controversial debate between medical officials,
teachers, parents, and teens. Most parents do not want to think about their teenage daughters engaging
in sexual activities; yet, at some point, it is more than likely going to happen. The CDC reports
showed in 2013 there were over 270,000 babies born to adolescents between the ages of 15 19 years
old (1). This figure may seem high but has declined over the last two decades and reduced by 10%
during 2012 to 2013 (1). There are several methods of birth control to inhibit pregnancy and the
spread of sexual transmitted infections (STI.) One form that aids in preventing pregnancy is
commonly known as the morning after plan or Plan B. For females over the age of 15, the FDA has
approved teens to buy the pills without a doctor s prescription (1). Purchases can be made at various
local pharmacy stores. The pills are taken immediately after having unprotected sex, or after a woman
believes, she may become pregnant from sexual intercourse. Dr. Abell express the hormones progestin
and estrogen are the same hormones used in birth control pills (341). The pills work by either
obstructing or delaying the natural pregnancy process, but is not an abortion because a woman is not
yet pregnant. If a woman takes the pill and she is already pregnant there has been no evidence to prove
the fertilized egg will be harmed (Abell 341). To have the most effect the pills should be taken within

Sophists
Sophists have been perpetuated in the history of philosophy primarily due to their most fierce critic
Plato and his Gorgias, where Socrates brings profound accusations against the practice of sophists and
declares notoriously rhetoric to be a part of flattery (κολακεία, 463c). This paper focuses on the
responses to sophists practices by Plato and Aristotle, analysing on the one hand criticism made on
their practice, on the other, however, trying to evaluate in which respect the responses of the two
philosophers differ. Thus, taking the polemic of sophists as a starting point, the paper moves forward
into discussing the fundamental differences in the treatment of rhetoric as perceived by Plato and
Aristotle. For this reason (and in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Altogether it seems that Aristotle s basic criticism towards sophists is quite similar to Plato s in his
Phaedrus. Namely, the main focus of Aristotle s censure is circling around the claim that previous
theoreticians of rhetoric put emphasis on something quite corollary in nature and secondary to the
importance of rhetoric. So, according to Aristotle, the contemporary rhetoric handbooks discuss
mainly two aspects of a speech: how many different parts a speech has to have (1.1.9, 3.13.1), and
how to arise the emotions of the audience (1.1.4). In both cases, however, rhetoricians are in fact
discussing something non essential to rhetoric and thus engage themselves with matters outside the
subject (1.1.3 ff). Also, because of focusing on these two aspects only, Aristotle argues that the former
practitioners have inclined to the forensic branch of oratory (1.1.12), since there the effect is easier to
achieve, due to the disinterest of the dicasts (1.1.10). Yet, at times it seems as if Aristotle s real
criticism for such rhetoric is targeted on the state and its laws rather than to the contemporary sophists
(1.1.4 ff).
Although Aristotle considers the two previously mentioned occupations of the contemporary
rhetorician not entirely out of

Marriage Of Figaro Gender Roles
The Marriage of Figaro is an opera performed in 1786 in Vienna and remains another one of Mozart s
most prominent works. The opera is notable for its depiction of the increased social status of women
and its critical commentary on the aristocracy and social hierarchy of its time, as the Countess and
Susanna form a rapport that transcends class boundaries and gender roles. Mozart further raises the
issue of aristocratic power while expressing the rights of the bourgeois, as women in the play are
further responsible for challenging the social order and standing up for themselves through their
physical environment. The Marriage of Figaro is a socially critical piece by its questioning of the

with Suzanne and Figaro bickering in their half furnished room. In Act 2, the Countess is first featured
in her boudoir alone and in reflection within her space, Is there no consolation, O God of Love, in
return for my sorrows and my sighs? (39). The cabinet present in the Countess s boudoir plays an
important part in this regard, as Susanna s emergence from the closet at the end of Act 2, Are you
brandishing your sword to kill that disobedient page? (59), signifies her wielding of power as she
confronts the Count who apologizes for his foolishness. Furthermore, the outdoor setting in Act 4, the

C. tetani are found in soil, dust, and feces and in animal intestines. In agricultural areas human may
harbor them in their intestine. However, it s most usually found in dense populated regions, especially
hot, damp climates with soil rich in organic matter. It causes a disease called Tetanus. The word
tetanus tetanos or taut means to stretch . Tetanus is characterized by rigidity and convulsive spasms of
skeletal muscle. (CDC Center for Disease control) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Infection can occur when open skin or wounds come into contact with foreign bodies carrying C.tetani
spores such as soil. The typical example is stepping on a rusty metal contaminated with soil, dust, or
feces. Because C. tetani is an indigenous intestinal flora of humans and animals, spores under
anaerobic conditions in the wound, will germinate to vegetative C. tetani cells which produce the
exotoxin in vivo (in the living body of a plant or animal). Person to person does not occur, but it s
infectious as acquired through environmental exposure. (Burton s Microbiology for the Health

The Criticism And Characteristics Of Romanticism In The...
INTRODUCTION
Romanticism is a movement which influences many works as literature, painting, music, architecture,
and it developed in Germany and Britain in the early decades of the nineteenth century and progressed
until mid century. The period started in 1790 and finished 1830. It can be said that this period had
started with the publication of Lyrical Ballads by Wordsworth and Coleridge and ended with the death
of famous novelist Sir Walter Scott. It is clear that this period has a variety of styles, themes and also
has great influence on poetry. It is not only related to poetry, but also related to history, painting,
politics, music, architecture, philosophy and literature... so on.
When Romanticism started there were different views. One view argues that Romanticism started with
French Revolution in 1789. They thought that French Revolution promised freedom, equality, and

The Athen Civilization Of Ancient Greek Culture
The Athen Civilization was one of the greatest examples of what a flourishing city state could be.
During the Golden Age, Greek civilization was destroyed by an enemy of the city the Persians. At that
time, the people of ancient Greece produced amazing architecture. The Parthenon was one of many
amazing things created by ancient Greeks. This building was constructed to be a grand symbol of
Athens. This building and the surrounding architecture stood for the representation of Greek culture.
Some ancient Greek values, beliefs, and skills that are represented by the Parthenon are the belief in
being strong, having the most beautiful and grandest architecture and, having the most logical
philosophy.
Many Greek people valued strength and believed that it was the most important virtue of all.
According to the article Athens was determined to be the most powerful, so for them to do that they
decided to organize campaigns. In these campaigns they decided that building a grand building was
the way to go; and in these buildings they would place grand statues. The Parthenon building was
filled with statues one of them being of the greek goddess Athena. Athena was made of ivory and
covered in gold; she also is depicted as having a spear and a shield in her hand. The sculptor created
her this way to show that one of the main virtues was to be strong, and protect the city. The statue of
Athena representing strength, was accompanied by a very strong military to protect the great structure

RBA Monetary Policy
The government may also use monetary policy in order to contain economic growth. Monetary policy
refers to changes in interest rates in order to influence aggregate demand and economic activity.
Monetary policy is conducted by the Reserve Bank of Australia, who use domestic market operations
in order to change interest rates. If the RBA takes a loose monetary policy stance the RBA will
purchase Commonwealth Government Securities in secondary bond markets. This increases the cash
in the markets, and therefore pushes the overnight cash rate down. Interest rates will be lowered,
which will result in higher consumer demand as the cost of interest on mortgages and credit card
repayments will decrease. On the other hand a tight monetary stance results ... Show more content on

Microeconomic policies promote the efficient operation of markets as the most effective mechanism
for achieving efficient allocation and use of resources, raise productivity and increase aggregate
supply. Increased aggregate supply will result in decreased inflationary pressures and increased
international competitiveness as Australian producers are able to supply international markets with a
greater volume of goods at lower prices. Greater export earnings will consequently improve Australia
s terms of trade, and will decrease the current account deficit. Microeconomic reforms that promote
increased competition in both domestic and international markets will also encourage greater
innovation and cheaper product, which will benefit consumers. Increases in productivity and
aggregate supply will also result in improvements in labour productivity. Higher productivity and
greater export earnings will result in wage increases for Australian labour, and subsequently living
standards will improve. As a result of higher wages, aggregate demand will increase thus creating

My Clinical Experience Analysis
Comparing my clinical experiences from last semester to this semester, I would say that I have already
experienced more this semester than I would have at this time last semester. Even though I am doing
LNA work while incorporating RN aspects, I feel the work that we are doing this semester is more RN
aspect based rather than LNA work. Clinical was my favorite part of last semester, and it is still my
favorite part of the semester. Over the past couple of weeks at Riverside, I have had numerous new
experiences, including following a nurse, following the wound care nurse, and going in on my day off

Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War
One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo Boer War was the use
of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required to
perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of the
inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less rations were
given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and poor living
conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been transferred to civilian
control, the black concentration camps still remained under military command (Pretorius). Though
many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war , blacks continued to be segregated
and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on
the side of the British, believing they would receive education and more economic opportunities with
a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the
war still prevented them from reaching true equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of
the twentieth century. Subtle rules and regulations were implemented as a treaty between the English
and Boers prevented blacks from ever escaping the European induced living conditions. The
stipulation in the Treaty of Vereeniging that schools continue to teach in Dutch, and conduct court in

Measures to reduce central venous pressure (CVP) and cerebral metabolic rate for oxygen (CMRO2)
can effectively allow to increase SVC clamping time [4,6,7]. To maintain mean arterial pressure, fluid
administration and vasopressor use plays important role. However fluid infusion through cannula
placed in upper limbs would cause further rise in cerebral venous pressure. Femoral venous or right
atrial cannula would be effective in fluid resuscitation. Neuroprotective methods like use of
thiopentone and mild hypothermia can be used. BIS monitoring is essential during such surgery. As
brain metabolism is decreased, bispectral index also decreases. SVC decompression can be done by
creating temporary veno atrial shunt or cavo pulmonary anastomosis for drainage of the SVC. (5,8)
J.Y. Perentes et al described a new temporary SVC bypass technique preoperative jugulo femoral

time of great stories. Like the most popular Arthur. This story showcases the original intentions for

The Case Of Brown V. Board Of Education
Education is a valuable service in society that strengthen a workforce, a nation and bring forth
awareness. Why should this be limited based on race or because of economic reasons, the quality
should represent where the schools are located, if they are public? The Public School system belongs
to society and those who contribute to what supports the education system. In choosing Brown v.
Board of Education, a case which continues to have a great impact to this day, taking into
consideration what was occurring at the time is how this case can be fathom. Today, equality is
flawed, but far from the injustices of the 50s. However, steps such as the case of Brown v. Board of

May 17, 1954, the Supreme Court issued its landmark Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka ruling,
which declared that racially segregated public schools were inherently unequal (The Learning
Network, 2012).
Without a doubt, in current times the public school s roster reflects the demographic makeup of its
neighborhoods; racial and culturally, and these are the results of economics, more than a racial
circumstance. That said, in continuing to change there will be more court cases on isolated
discrimination and beyond the school system to allow changes needed. Currently, being able to have
schools with diversity opens the minds of our youth to explore the world s culture, it provides early on

Introduction
A career in public accountant/internal auditing involves communicating, summarizing, classifying,
interpreting and presenting financial positions about an enterprise to the management, auditors,

when it comes to running a successful business. In every business there is need for a bookkeeper,
accountant or a chief finance officer. There is a projected 16% increase in job positions by 2016
exemplifying the bright future of accounting according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics
website (U.S Department of Labor, 2014.) The role of the accountant has changed from traditional
accounting to that of a strategic planner and a business partner in the changing business environment.
And in regards to Kalleberg s standards of good job criteria, a career in accounting measures up to the
ideals of a worthy job to obtain.

takes away from her beauty; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That could be attributed to Hawthorne s background, and the era in which this story was written. Other
qualities which he exhibits are perfectionism, excessive devotion to work, and miserliness toward
others.
Alymer first shows his perfectionism when he tells Georgiana that she quot;came so nearly perfect,
and calls the birthmark, a visible mark of earthly imperfection. (Hawthorne 306) He wishes to have
the perfect wife. And Georgiana is young and beautiful. But she has her birthmark which disturbs
Alymer greatly. After giving the liquid to his wife, Alymer exclaims, [ . . . ] You are perfect!
(Hawthorne 316) Another sign that he was a perfectionist was the fact he kept such a detailed record
of his work over the years. It is not the fact that the books themselves exist, but that Alymer was not
truly satisfied with his work:
[. . .] she could not [help] but observe that his most splendid successes were almost invariably failures,
if compared with the ideal at which he aimed. His brightest diamonds were the merest pebbles, [ . . . ].
(Hawthorne 313)
The second attribute of obsessive compulsive personality disorder that Alymer displays is excessive
working. Since he is such a perfectionist in his science, it s obvious that he spends the majority of his
time in his lab. This doesn t leave much time for a social life. Because Alymer is preoccupied with
work, this causes him to be miserly toward

Analysis Of Oryx And Crake By Margaret Atwood
Ethics is differentiating between good and evil, between the right and wrong human actions, and
between righteous and unrighteous characteristics of individuals. Having said that, ethics plays a
significant role in Margaret Atwood s novel, Oryx and Crake. The world in which Oryx and Crake are
presented differs from our own. The lifestyle throughout the novel demonstrates the value and
importance of ethics in one s life and how it can effortlessly lead to a tragedy. In the novel, Margaret
Atwood focuses on the excess of the lack of moral responsibility and freedom showing that as much
as science can help a person, it can also destroy them if we do not have ethical limits and society s
satisfaction. In addition, Atwood illustrates the final disaster when the novel s antagonist, Crake, uses
both his scientific intellect shared with his ethical depravity to attempt extinguishing and then
recreating, the entire human race. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the story s protagonist,
Jimmy/Snowman, gradually reveals a world of segregation and isolation for those who possess either
artistic compassion or appreciation. Nonetheless, solidarity with other human beings is the first step to
the development of ethics.
It is not explicitly mentioned, however, one can conclude that companies are frequently the number
one control and power in the world. Evidence of this is presented throughout the book. Jimmy spends
his life living in corporate compounds, like many other characters, both Jimmy

Narration in The Turn of the Screw Essay
Narration in The Turn of the Screw
Henry James makes the governess the narrator because she keeps the readers interest by also being
involved in the story as a main character. However, being involved on this personal level, it can make
the governess exaggerate at times and be over emotional. Her determined and curious nature makes
her an ideal candidate to explore the mysterious happenings, however her imagination keeps the
reader in suspense, as we are never sure how much she has exaggerated the story.
This also adds tension as the full picture is never revealed. This choice of narrator is therefore
challenged by Susan Hill s description that a narrator should be unimaginative and straightforward as
the
governess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James makes us think that there is something unusual about this, because the governess is imagining
the master appearing like that to tell her she s doing a good job, so her imagination becomes reality.
However, it soon becomes clear that this was not the person she was imagining appearing, as he is not
wearing a hat, something no gentleman would be without in Victorian times. Also it is dusk when he
appears, and all of the birds stop singing and the scene is described as stricken with death all of which
create a suitable atmosphere for a spectre to appear in.
The governess s reaction to the sighting is to stand transfixed on the spot, as she cannot believe that
her imagination may have become reality. She is scared, as it says she stood stricken to the spot.
However, she cannot take her eyes away from him, possibly because she doesn t know whether he is
real or a figment of her imagination. Also the fact that they are unchaperoned, and that Peter Quint is
not wearing a hat, seems to shock her most of all, as she says An unknown man in a lonely place is a
permitted object of fear to a young woman privately bred. , meaning that because they are alone
together, and he is wearing no hat; a sign of familiarity, she has a good right to be scared. Henry James
includes two ghosts, to increase suspense and tension, because of their relationship, suggesting that
because they were colleagues, they may be plotting to do something

  • 2. Democracy Derailed Essay Democracy Derailed looks at the initiative process, the effects of that process and asked the question, Is this a good way to make public policy? I feel that even though the process is not perfect it is a great way to allow the average citizen more power in policy making. The History Democracy Derailed begins with addressing the evolution of the initiative process. During the first twenty years in Plymouth Colonies, all adult men met to consider legislation. In 1715, Massachusetts had to address anything that was supported by ten citizens. By 1788, Massachusetts began conducting referendums, and by the 1850 s, referendums had become an acceptable practice. By the end of the 1800 s, direct legislation in states had become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The common ground that all members shared was their dislike and distrust for Democrats, Republicans, banks and monopolists. They felt that these groups were controlled by extreme corruption and infested legislatures with bribes to maintain control and power. Both groups chose the initiative to help clean up governmental corruption, inspired by its use in Switzerland. The Webster s Dictionary defines initiative as, the introduction of proposed legislation, as to popular vote, by voters petitions. This is what dre3w both the Populists and Progressives to migrating initiatives to the United States. The popular theory was that if voters would gain education and curiosity connected to public affairs. Initiatives seemed like the logical solution to allow power directly aback in the people s hands. Woodrow Wilson wrote that, the men who have been ruling America must consent to let majority into the game...We will not allow the few to continue to determine what the policy of the country is to be...all men with the convictions of America in their hearts, will crowd to that standard and a new day of achievement may come for the liberty we love. • 3. Overtones In To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee is a fan of using subtle undertones and overtones everywhere in her book To Kill a Mockingbird. A good example of this is with the quote Sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whiskey bottle in the hand of [another]...There are just some kind of men...who re so busy worrying about the next world they ve never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results. (pg. 60). This quote, as a stand alone, gets gears turning, but once it s paired with the rest of the book, it gives an entirely new perspective on a problem that so many people ignore or don t notice. Her book is completely littered with examples that back up this quote and it s intended meaning. A few examples of this is when the foot washers call Miss Maudie and her flowers a sin, when the foot washers quote scripture to Miss Maudie and she quotes some right back, when Mrs. Farrow talks about the blacks as if they are wild animals, when Mrs. Merriweather talks about the cooks and field hands grumbling after Tom s Trials and when Jem is explaining to Dill why Dolphus Raymond is somewhat of a town outcast. Some of the extremely devout people (the foot washers for example), tend to be more worried about the next life instead of enjoying the one they currently have. By preferring to be inside reading the Bible instead of outdoors enjoying life and wanting others to do the same, they show how the Bible gives the ability to be scrutinized less by peers. But ... • 6. The Pros And Cons Of The Indian Removal Act Of 1830 The Indian Removal Act of 1830, championed by President Andrew Jackson, called for the relocation of numerous native American tribes to lands west of the Mississippi River to land for white settlers. Although the bill was extremely controversial, it was passed, and entire Indian tribes were forced to move. Due to the hardship and suffering the Indian Removal Act of 1830 caused Indian peoples, as well as the fact that it was unnecessary, unconstitutional, and immoral, it should not have been passed. Firstly, the negative effects of the bill on native Americans far outweighed the benefits it might have had for second people. Secondly, the bill violated numerous treaties between the U.S. government and Indian tribes and was thus unconstitutional. Lastly, the bill was immoral due to the fact that Indian leaders were not allowed a voice in their own future and the inherent racism involved in the decision. One of the main arguments opponents of the Indian Removal Act of 1830 voiced was that, at its most basic level, the removal bill was not necessary. The main purpose of the act was to provide more land for an increasing population of white American citizens; more land, the government believed, would help expand the American economy. Proponents of the bill, such as President Andrew Jackson (who ratified the act), claimed that the land occupied by the Indians would be put to better use as part of our extensive Republic, studded with cities, towns, and all the improvements which art can devise... . However, while those who supported the bill used nationalistic attitudes to justify their position, others found that removing the Indian peoples was not necessary to achieve economic growth. As Massachusetts Congressman Edward Everett and others emphasized, it was possible for white settlers to thrive while leaving Cherokee peoples on the land that was rightfully theirs; it was greed, not necessity, that motivated the people to demand more land. The removal bill should not have been passed because although the white population benefitted from the removal of the Indians, this benefit was not worth the hardship the Indians endured as a result. The benefit of white citizens should not have been prioritized over the well being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explain why the Aggregate Supply curve is upward sloping in the short run and vertical in the long run? Aggregate supply is the total supply of goods and services produced by any firm in a country for economic plan and sell these goods and services during a year. These goods and services are willing to sell at a given price by firms. Short Run Aggregate Supply Curve In short run, the aggregate supply curve will go upward because there are two main reasons due to which quantity supplied increases with the increase in price. Firstly, the curve is used for nominal variable like wage rate and in short run, the nominal wage rate is fixed which resulted in higher profits that give expansion in the output. ... In data output, 144 samples per frame are used, and data rate is 36 Mbps. Figure 4.2: Data Source 4.2.2 Forward Error Correction Coding A typical problem in OFDM based systems is a high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). The available RF power amplifiers usually have a limited linear dynamic range. This is not a problem for constant amplitude signals, however, in OFDM, due to IFFT operation, some of the sub carriers add constructively to large amplitudes while others add destructively. The amplitude of the signals thus varies randomly and for large amplitude signals, non linear amplifications cause errors. Therefore, error correction codes are employed. In HiperLan2, the data is coded with a convolutional encoder of rate 1/2. The convolutional encoder uses the industry standard generator polynomials, g0 = 1338 and g1 = 1718, and is shown in Figure 4.3. Experiment s Second Introduction This lab served to demonstrate the reaction between the enzyme catalase and hydrogen peroxide under different environmental conditions and the addition of an inhibitor. This is an important reaction in biological systems. Hydrogen peroxide serves many important roles in the body such as acting in signaling between cells, controlling inflammation at sites of injury (Halliwell et al. 2000), and cardio myogenesis (Seonmin et al. 2011). While important, hydrogen peroxide in excess can break down to hydroxide radicals and cause damage to DNA and other tissues (Halliwell et al. 2000). Because of this, hydrogen peroxide in cells must be regulated and this is done by catalase. Catalase is an enzyme that catalyzes the dissociation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas, preventing the formation of oxidizing hydroxide radicals (Yang et al. 2002). It does this by binding to the hydrogen peroxide. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary Analysis: A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings In the story, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez intertwines the supernatural with the natural in an amazing manner. This essay analyzes how Marquez efficiently utilizes an exceptional style and imaginative tone that requests the reader to do a self introspection on their life regarding their responses to normal and abnormal events. Marquez sets the tone of the story with an occurrence that is unusual and unsolicited: a newborn caught in bad weather. The introductory writing style is striking as Marquez gives a hint of the bad weather: The world had been sad since Tuesday. (Márquez 13) He introduces a supernatural element by describing a bizarre old man with massive wings. He shatters the assumption that angels are powerful and divine by describing the old man stuck in the mud as, ...impeded by his enormous wings (Márquez 13) and unable to free himself. Marquez uses irony as an element of tone to show the reader that the wings, which were supposed to aid the man, are now his source of anguish. It is evident when a woman, having concluded that the peculiar old man was an angel, decides to put him to death by bludgeoning. Marquez utilizes ironic wording in describing the actions of the couple who felt noble after their decision to put the old man on a raft with food and leave him to his fate on the high seas. Inattentional blindness is the process of not seeing salient objects although we are looking directly at them as our attention is directed at something else (Mack, 2003). Most parents do not want to think about their teenage daughters engaging in sexual activities; yet, at some point, it is more than likely going to happen. The CDC reports showed in 2013 there were over 270,000 babies born to adolescents between the ages of 15 19 years old (1). This figure may seem high but has declined over the last two decades and reduced by 10% during 2012 to 2013 (1). There are several methods of birth control to inhibit pregnancy and the spread of sexual transmitted infections (STI.) One form that aids in preventing pregnancy is commonly known as the morning after plan or Plan B. Namely, the main focus of Aristotle s censure is circling around the claim that previous theoreticians of rhetoric put emphasis on something quite corollary in nature and secondary to the importance of rhetoric. So, according to Aristotle, the contemporary rhetoric handbooks discuss mainly two aspects of a speech: how many different parts a speech has to have (1.1.9, 3.13.1), and how to arise the emotions of the audience (1.1.4). In both cases, however, rhetoricians are in fact discussing something non essential to rhetoric and thus engage themselves with matters outside the subject (1.1.3 ff). Also, because of focusing on these two aspects only, Aristotle argues that the former practitioners have inclined to the forensic branch of oratory (1.1.12), since there the effect is easier to achieve, due to the disinterest of the dicasts (1.1.10). Yet, at times it seems as if Aristotle s real criticism for such rhetoric is targeted on the state and its laws rather than to the contemporary sophists (1.1.4 ff). INTRODUCTION Romanticism is a movement which influences many works as literature, painting, music, architecture, and it developed in Germany and Britain in the early decades of the nineteenth century and progressed until mid century. The period started in 1790 and finished 1830. • 27. Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo Boer War was the use of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required to perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of the inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less rations were given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and poor living conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been transferred to civilian control, the black concentration camps still remained under military command (Pretorius). Though many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war , blacks continued to be segregated and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on the side of the British, believing they would receive education and more economic opportunities with a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the war still prevented them from reaching true equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of the twentieth century.
