How Is Language Used In Animal Farm
Language can be used in many different ways. Its most powerful form is when it is used to control
others. The book we just finished in class, Animal Farm, which is an extended metaphor about the
events leading up to the Russian Revolution and on to the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. For
example, in Animal Farm, the pigs are always threatening the animalsthat Mr. Jones would come
back. Another example would be a Michelin Tires ad. This ad is saying that without these tires,
you are killing your baby. Language can be uplifting and powerful, but using language to control
others, holds more power. When you are controlled by fear, you are more likely to do want others
want you to do. In Animal Farm, the pigs threatened the rest of the animals

Consensus of the People in Nazi Germany
The vital element in maintaining Hitler s regime remains one of the most controversial arguments
amongst historians. There are many considerable factors. Historians such as Jaques Delarue and
Hans Rothfels argue that terror was the main component to sustain control, whilst David Crew and
Dick Geary believe it was propaganda that made it possible. However, there are other factors that
are supported, for instance, contextual condition was backed by Ralph Flenly and Hans Rothfels
and the people s consent, as A.J.P. Taylor proposes, was the imperative constituent. Most historians
have the same problem evaluating as they have different definitions for people s consent. Silent
opposition is the term used for the people who passively opposed.... Show more content on

They also assassinated a Gestapo officer at Cologne in 1944. This behaviour demonstrated that
although young people were forced to support Hitler, not all were convinced by the Propaganda.
In spite of this, the Edelweiss pirates were only a small minority group. Another one of Flenly s
main point is that the effects of the First World War had left a vacuum in the German politics,
one which required a strong leading figure. The emotional appeal of the Nazis was very strong,
the Nazi ideology fitted with the traditional values like the role of men and women and family
values. Only a small group of people would deny these ideas. The Nazis offered exactly what the
people wanted and they extended conventional ideals and gave the people a leader which they
longed for. Their long tradition of obedience to authority and the retarded development of
political and civil freedom was a sign that was also spotted by William Shirer as he claimed
Acceptance of autocracy, of blind obedience to the petty tyrants who ruled as princes, became
ingrained in the German mind. [6] hence the immense support shown in the election results, in
November election 1933, they gained 92.9% of the overall votes. This was an achievement which
cannot be credited solely to terrorism, still less to fraud.[7] Flenly s interpretation also points out
that the people gave their approval

Friedrich von Hayek: Defender of Political Liberty
Friedrich August von Hayek was born on May 8th, 1899 in Vienna to August von Hayek and
Felicitas Hayek (nГ©e von Juraschek) and was the oldest of three boys. His father and both of his
grandfathers were university professors and inspired young Friedrich to be a scholar. Franz von
Juraschek, his maternal grandfather, was a renowned economics and a friend of the founder of the
Austrian School of Economics, Eugen Böhm. As a young student, Hayek was very academically
inclined. He read frequently and, at his father s prompting, read Hugo de Vries and Ludwig
Feuerbach, the former a genetic scientist and the latter a philosopher who wrote a critique of
Christianity. At school, he was greatly impressed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Keynesian economist favors strong government and therefore government intervention in
times of trouble. However, Hayek argues that the government, as the central planner, cannot
possibly know how consumers would prefer to have resources used in the production of good
and services. This lack of knowledge, he calls the information problem for the central planner
does not have enough information to adequately provide for the people s needs and therefore
surpluses and shortages abound. Protecting protect property rights is the role of the government,
Hayek stated. In his world famous book, The Road to Serfdom, he warns that government
intervention will create unintended consequences which will make people clamor for more
government help and lead to more government intervention and more problems. Ludwig von
Mises, a close friend and colleague of Hayek, said that increasing government intervention would
only lead to a socialist economy. To have economic freedom, political liberty is essential. In The
Road to Serfdom, Hayek explains how when the government controls everything, they have power
over the markets. This ties closely in with the idea that information is decentralized. The prices and
amount of goods produced would all be controlled by the government. Hayek pointed out that
powerful government attracted selfish people who cared for themselves and their friends before

Social Media And Its Effect On Self Image
Would you consider yourself an important person? The majority of young people in today s
society would say that they indeed are important, as opposed to the very few numbers of people
who felt this way in the 1950 s, according to Jean Twenge in her book Generation Me. Debora Lima
agrees with Twenge and suggests that this is caused by social media in her article Social media
plays large part in self image. Cathy Payne also agrees as she explains the inflation of cosmetic
surgeries in her article Botox or your bills? Plastic surgerywins out. Twenge, Payne, and Lima all
agree that there is a change in self image in today s young society, yet they all argue different sub
points on this subject. Overall, there has been a noticeable change in self image.
In chapter 2 An Army of One: Me of Generation Me, Jean Twenge discusses self image. First, she
explains how Gen Me ers are focused on the self and how their self esteem is much higher than
Baby Boomers . The author reports how children are encouraged to focus on themselves. This
sometimes creates narcissism instead, declares the author. Another thing brought up is how
teachers are beginning to not criticize students because it may damage their self esteem. To
conclude, Twenge argues how Gen Me ers have a positive self image, but this may not be a good
thing (Twenge 44 71).
While discussing the change in self image, Twenge s target audience is comprised of Gen Me ers
and Baby Boomers. Both of these groups would

Nature Vs Nurture Research Paper
Nature v. Nurture is the psychological term that questions whether genetic factors or environmental
factors affect human psychological development more. This short essay will cover three main
topics. What does nature vs. nurture mean? The discussion of nature vs. nurture classifications.
Also, the controversy of nature vs. nurture . How much does your DNA control about you? This is
what the nature vs. nurture debate challenges.
What Does Nature vs. Nurture Mean?
Nature refers to the genetic factors that affect our development and influence who we are. It is easy
to observe that the coding of our DNA shapes our physical features, as mentioned above. More

They favour the nature side. Nativists believe that people s behaviour is the result of many years
of evolution and adaptation and that our individual differences stem from the genetics we inherit
from our parents. An example of this nativist theory was theorized by Noam Chomsky. He
proposed that all children are born with an instinct mental capacity to both produce and learn
language. If people are able to inherit the ability to learn language, does this mean that other
behavioural traits and abilities are also inherited? Those in favour of explaining human behaviour
by way of nurture are called empiricists. These empiricists believe that the mind begins as a blank
slate, which is also known as tabula rasa. This notion then explains that our experiences and
memories shape who we are, how we behave, and what our knowledge is by filling the blank slate
during our years of life. Albert Bandura s social learning theory is an example within the empiricist
side of psychology. This theory suggested that people learn by observing the behaviour of others.
In his Bobo doll experiment, it was observed that children could learn aggressive behaviour by
watching adults act aggressively. Was this imitated aggressive behaviour the result of the
environment children were put into, or did they have a genetic predisposition for violence and

Cultures And Characteristics Of Cultural Imperialism In...
Cultural Imperialism in Pakistan
Cultural Imperialism is a term which got fame in late 1960s. It is basically about the cultural
characteristics of Imperialism. Imperialism means domination of something. Generally dominant
nations tend to invade other country s culture through media. In this way they not only manipulate
the ideology of targeted country but also changed their cultural values. If we look deep in history
then we came to know that third world countries are most influenced by this kind of media content.
Also these countries wants to enjoy global culture; so they adopt global culture by itself and thus
their own culture become extinct.
Pakistani society is also a prey of this feature of imperialism. We have a diverse and varied culture
throughout the country. We have our own festivals, dress code, food, literature; but everything is
now changed. This is due to cultural imperialism. Here we discuss cultural imperialism with the
help of its three indicators so can able to locate roots of this cultural domination in our society.

Cultural Imperialism also has effects on our intellectual. We have same media content to air as west.
There is now no difference between Pakistani drama and Turkish/Indian dramas. Characters
presented in drama have no relation with a common man. Costumes, set designs, make up, even
sound effects are same. Stories are far away from representing reality. Same is the case with our
music industry. Rap culture is now getting reputation among youth.
Our literature has also been changed. We have now a new kind of genre in literature which was
not appreciated or owned by classic and legend writers; that is suspense thrillers. We have now
Imran series and writers like Ibn e Safi who wrote about suspense. This is a mere following of west
as in their society these kind of novels are considered best

Statistical Analysis Examples
Statistical Analyses The following physiological measures were assessed for statistical
significance: RMSSD, HF power, SBP, DBP and HR. A natural log transformation was applied to
HRV measures prior to the analysis. Each measure was analyzed using a one way repeated
measures ANOVA across each experimental condition: baseline, stressor, recovery. The application
of repeated measures ANOVA calls for the assumption that the dependent variables follow a
normal distribution. In the context of this study, normal distribution cannot be demonstrated given
the small sample size. However, the present study serves as a pilot study and thus normality will
be overlooked in favor of obtaining a sense of the quality of the physiological data. As such, the
presence of a normal distribution will be assumed for subsequent statistical analyses. Additionally,
the assumption of Mauchly s Test of Sphericity was assumed to be violated in each case, and the
Greehouse Geisser correction was used in the resulting analyses. Post hoc tests with Bonferroni s
correction were conducted to assess statistical significancebetween each experimental condition
with one another. An О± level of .05 was used, therefore probability values .05 were determined to
be significant.
Results
Table 1 summarizes the means and standard deviations obtained from descriptive statistics. A
repeated measures ANOVA with a Greenhouse Geisser correction determined that RMSSD values

who was one of the representative of the Grand Tour era and devoted to antique art works.
Jonathan Scott explains the details about what Charles Townley bought and whom he bought them
from, stories about relationships between the sellers and Townley, and what he did to his
collection of art works. Then he talks broadly about Grand Tour of upper class Englishmen after
Townley s death and Napoleon conquering Rome. After death of Townley and conquering of

The author states about how Townley had certain standards like he did not desire the statues made
of marbles to be grind to make the statues look smooth or damaged (Scott 200). Unlike Townley,
those Englishmen, who were connoisseurs during Napoleonic era, bought any art works that were
called or claimed antique even if the prices were ridiculously high. Moreover, Townley made
museum like homes to share his interest of antique arts with other citizens and fellow enlightened
men. Also, he carefully planned and placed art works/statues in his house to make them look more
aesthetically pleasing and balanced. On the other hand, British connoisseurs did not care about the
placement of the statues, but only cared to have the statues to show that they are upper class or
connoisseurs who collect valuable antique art works (Scott 209). Author expresses the contrasts of
the collecting antique between Townley and his fellow friends to the British connoisseurs, after

Annexation Of Texas Dbq Essay
Throughout the late 1830s and early 1840s, political controversy broke out over the annexation of
Texas into the United States claiming that it was the destiny of the country to expand through the
Manifest Destiny. Many Americans saw the potential addition of Texas as an essential component
in Westward expansion, however, war with Mexicowas an unavoidable risk and would create even
more problems with slavery. Northern and Western regions of the Unites States opposed annexation
because while the South wanted to add Texasinto the Union to expand the slave industry.
Annexation of Texas was also seen as revenge for the vast amount of American deaths during the
Alamo and Goliad. Politicians battled back and forth on whether or not Texas should be in
American control or not. I believe that the annexation of of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For the most part LSD treatment plans ceased in the 1970s this was mainly due to the fact that
unregulated experiments involving highly hallucinogenic drugs on sometimes unwilling
participants became frowned upon and rightly so. LSD can be dangerous depending on the
dosage and back in the 50s and 60s researchers would just keep upping the dosages until they felt
they got the desired results. You can see how that could get morally and ethically confusing. The
first example this paper covers is a study published in 1957 involving the use of LSD on
psychoneurotic patients under day hospital conditions; the overall goal being to make these
psychoneurotic people more manageable on a day to day basis. According to the author of the
study, Dr. Joyce Martin, the patients selected for treatment had to meet certain criteria such as:
no prior psychotic episodes, a good personality and high intelligence. (Martin, 1957). It is
unclear if the patients in this study knew what was going to happen to them and it is also unclear
if these patients participated willingly. This was of course a time where strict ethics board did
not exist and patient consent/knowledge was not always required to conduct scientific
experiments. Regardless, the experiments themselves were simple: patient arrives at the hospital,
eats breakfast, is put into their own room, an initial dosage of 25 to 50 gamma of LSD was
administered, dosage is increased until desired effect is achieved, patients are monitored and
offered lunch which they often refused due to nausea and then the reaction was terminated by
administering Largactil. Results varied from the patients becoming more receptive to less
receptive. Patients were often reported to experience vivid past memories as well as saying they
saw themselves as being younger when looking at a

The Politics Of Nostalgia In Disneyland And Christine...
Firstmost, we must define the politics of nostalgia. The politics of nostalgia can be defined as a
repudiation of present day social, economic, and cultural realities for a past that may not reflect
reality (Suarez, Walt Disney Lecture). Henceforth, the politics of nostalgia is an individual s
concept and memory of past realities while rejecting all other ideas. This concept can be applicable
to several locations, events, and individuals, but the two locations I want to focus on is Walt Disney
s Disneyland and Christine Sterling s Olvera Street.
Christine Sterling created Olvera Street, a site where Mexican American culture is up on a display.
When Sterling came to Los Angeles in mid 1920 s, she expected to find Spanish romance around
every corner, only to suffer disappointment (Kropp 211). Due to her disappointment, Sterling
wanted to create a site where the colors of Spanish, Mexican romance can be highlighted (Kropp
211). Therefore, she strived for this very goal, which became Olvera Street. Moving on, the
politics of nostalgia are applicable for this scenario. Sterling certainly had a romantic vision of
Mexican American culture and history, despite the fact that this very history does contain parts that
are not as pleasant. She created Olvera Street based on her view of the romantic Spanish past
(Kropp 210). Consequently, this included costumes and a continual round each year of fiestas
(Kropp 213). Another point is that when Sterling first came to see

The Impact Of Foreign Policy On International Trade Essay
Ever since the first involvement of government in international trade, many people have posed their
opinion about what the role of government should be in it. Different factors are involved when it
comes to deciding what this should be. It impacts a lot of people, so in order to do that, trade
policy must be properly defined, identify what the roles of government currently are, and their
involvement in it, and then analyse what should be their role. Trade policy is how a country carries
out trade with other countries (Commercial Policy, n.d). Even though a lot of people support
government intervention in international trade, countries would benefit a lot more if the government
removes protectionism and promotes free tradeinstead.
Trade policy is defined as a collection of rules and regulations that are made by public officials
which relate to trade (Trade Policy, 2010). An organisation that makes the rules of trading
amongst its member nations is the World Trade Organisation (WTO). They are the ones who
handles trade issues, supervises trade policies, gives technical assistance to developing countries
and participates with other international trade organisations (World Trade Organisation, n.d). New
Zealand is an example of a country that works with the WTO. Due to this, it enables them to have
a free trade policy. Trading is essential to New Zealand s economy, as they can only afford the
services and goods that they import by selling exports to other countries. Free trade

Ethics Of Animal Use In Research
The Ethics of Animal Use in Research Some of the earliest records on animal testing date back
to ancient Greek philosophers and physicians such as Aristotle (1). Since then, the use of animals
in experimentation has grown tremendously and has evolved into an indispensable arm of
biology. Whether it be to test the effects of various chemicals on living organisms or developing
a model of a disease for future study, biology makes ample use of model organisms for a variety
of purposes and without their implementation many of the medical advancements we enjoy today
would not exist. Despite their deep and widespread historical use, the ethical considerations of
using these animals is still a highly debated topic around the world. This essay will argue that
animal use is vital to the advancement of biology and that ample ethical standards are in place to

Modern Masculinity And Its Impact On Modern Society
The majority of men are led to the believe that the ability to show weakness is regarded as the
most un male components; this means that vulnerability and openness which are absolutely
important for self exploration or personal development, are recognized as weak behaviors. After
all, the modern men still deal with relatively archaic messages related to the meaning of being a
maleor a man. For instance, the society predicts men to be strong at all costs, to be stoic and
unemotional, to be rescuers, and, of course, to consider own work as a key priority (Vermunt).
Thus, it is important to provide a thorough investigation of the current ads in order to identify both

In addition, the majority of the recent Super Bowl s ads intend to continue the existing trend in
terms of the exaggerated humor as a specific mechanism implemented in order to deflect the
relevant criticism, despite the fact that they use an openly angry tone and illustrate a natural
patriarchal order on display. After all, images of masculinity that can do double duty with a great
variety of consumers, including both male and female, are not extremely difficult to create in a
modern culture, especially if to pay attention to the fact that the muscular male body has a long
and glorious aesthetic history (Bordo, 178). Hollywood and mainstream media have also began
depicting, rather explicitly, male genitalia often enlarged using padding and photoshop (Bordo,
168). This stands true especially for advertisement campaigns for underwear. If you compare the
pictures of the Calvin Klein underwear advertisement, you can see how Photoshop is used to give
the model seemingly larger genitalia than in real life. Over years of seeing such advertisements and
depictions, it can create a serious impact on the males viewing such images as it may leave them
feeling inadequate or not manly enough even though such images have been under Photoshop to
seem bigger. Such feelings can create real psychological damage where men may feel that big
genitalia constitutes as manly.

Comparing Perrault And The Grimm Brothers
When it comes to picking authors, who interest me in the field of fairytales I would have to
choose Perrault and the Grimm brothers. Even though one is from the 17th century and the other
two are from the 19th century, they go about telling stories a little differently while also having
some similarities in the tales they tell. Both have morals for each tale. Some are weaker than
others while others are also stronger than others as well. The fairy taleI would be writing about
would be little red riding hood. The little red riding hood that I remember reading about when I was
little was saved by a woodsman. However, coming into this class and reading the original, I found it
interested that both tales ended differently.

and come up with a way to teach adults and kids the same morals. In Perrault s tales, he clearly
states the characteristics a woman needs are to be beautiful, polite, graceful, industrious, and
properly groomed while also knowing how to control herself always (Zipes, 40). So basically,

The Bluest Eye Character Analysis
Characterization maneuvers by Toni Morrison Pecola Breedlove in The Bluest Eye is a curious,
young and innocent girl who tries to understand things that are even more complex than she
thinks. A wondering eleven years old girl who is not near to recognizing the world she lives in;
Pecola wants to be able to be something that she thinks is unreachable without the need of any
special trait, and she does whatever she thinks it takes to achieve it. Toni Morrisoncreated a
character who is constantly driven by her actions and thoughts simultaneously according to what
she thinks is correct of doing.
To begin with, Toni Morrison describes how Pecola commit things to understand or can achieve
certain things. For example, We knew she was fond of the Shirley Temple cup and took every
opportunity to drink milk out of it just to handle and see sweet Shirley s face Morrison (23).
This clearly explains that she does this just to be able to adjust and see this girl, as if they were
not on a same level. Pecola does this by impulsion because she might think that was the right
action to take to reach Shirley who Pecola taught was so different than her. Also, this example is
seen when The tears came fast, and she held her face in her hands Morrison (90). This describes
her as some who can feel easily feeling trapped and incapable of acting against that force that is
pushing her against a wall. Pecola is now feeling like nothing she does can help it and quits, and

that, by 1850, would have more than thirty thousand members.1 These members, who called
themselves the Society of God Worshippers, consisted primarily of poor and disenfranchised
Chinese peasants who suffered greatly from the oppression of the Manchu dynasty.2 It was their
discontent with the Manchu, paired with a desire for better treatment through a new ruling class,

To them, the defeat was a sign that perhaps the Manchus were not as strong as they seemed. If the
Westerners could defeat them, perhaps they, the peasants, stood a chance in overthrowing the ruling
class they so deeply disliked. There were multiple reasons for the discontent, and even hatred, the
southern Chinese felt towards the Manchu dynasty. The population of southern Chinahad been
alienated and oppressed since the Manchus had taken up the throne in the 17th century. Ruling
China as if they were the masters of a conquered territory, the Manchus oppressed and exploited the
Chinese people, especially the peasants, who had high taxes imposed upon them, while the wealthy

droughts that occurred along the lower Yellow River valley due to the abandonment of irrigation
systems, lead to starvation, misery, and exacerbated poverty that resulted in widespread anti
Manchu sentiment.10 This sentiment

As geologic time goes, all the dinosaurs living on earth suddenly disappeared. How did these
dominated and gigantic creatures really die? Was it a slow extinction through natural causes, or
did it happen suddenly? These questions give rise to many different beliefs on how the dinosaurs
disappeared over sixty five million years ago. Something happened sixty five million years ago, at
the end of the Cretaceous period that was so devastating that it altered the course of life on earth.
Extinction is easily defined: the birth rate fails to keep up with the death rate. However, the
definition does not answer the question about the nature or causes of extinction. Since so many ...

A massive eruption may have saturated the atmosphere with carbon dioxide so the that a sharp rise
in temperature occurred worldwide. The excessive carbon dioxide would have permitted solar
energy to enter the atmosphere but would have blocked the radiation of most surface heat back into
space, causing the greenhouse effect . rising temperatures could have killed off or reduced the
activity of plankton, disrupting food chains and also disrupting the plankton s normal role in
converting carbon dioxide to oxygen through photosynthesis. It would have taken long for
dinosaurs to become extinct.
Dinosaurs may have also killed themselves. It is possible that they consumed poison from plants.
The emergence of flowering plants could have poisoned them. These plants contained alkaloids.
Smaller animals with lesser appetites could have survived the doses, but perhaps the dinosaur could
not. Most mammals are smart enough to avoid these poison ness plants because of the bitter taste.
The dinosaurs, however, may have not had the sense or the liver. They could not taste the bitterness
or detoxify the ingested substances. This theory is not scientifically significant because there is no
way of telling if the dinosaurs could taste, or how their digestive system worked.
What if it wasn t the dinosaurs that caused their own extinction, but something greater? Species of
animals that have survived for millions of years have to be well adapted to their environment or they

Classifying and Treating a Fracture of a Bone
A fracture is a break or disruption in the continuity of the bone that often affects mobility and
sensation. It can occur anywhere in the body and at any age (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p.
1144). All fractures follow the same mechanism and require similar care regardless of type or
location. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A fracture is classified by the severity of the
break being either complete or incomplete fractures: A complete fracture is a break along the
width of the bone resulting in the bone being separated into two sections. An incomplete fracture
is a fracture that does not result in the separation of bone because the break is only partially
through the bone. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A closed (simple) fracture does not
cause injury to the skin and, therefore, does not have any noticeable wound. This type of fracture
still needs to be managed by stabilization of the bone and realignment if necessary. Open fractures
are ones in which a portion of the bone breaks through the skin or a wound penetrates through to a
fractured bone (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures frequently
involve more damage to surrounding tendons, ligaments, and muscles than in a closed fractures.
They take a longer time to heal and are at increased risk for complications (American Academy of
Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures represent a range of injury: first, the basic underlying
problem of the fracture; second, the

Raising Productivity Is Important for Unlocking the...
Raising productivity is important for unlocking the economic potential of a country.
Why Productivity Matters.
Productivity is often referred to as the ratio between the amount of output and the input volumes in
return. Thus, it is often used as a gauge to measure how efficiently production inputs, such as labor
and capital, are being optimized in an economy to match its outputs.
It is important to remember that the higher the productivity of the country, the higher it s Gross

Using GIS in the Study of the Steel Industry
How GIS is used in the study case? The U.S. steel industry continues to face formidable
competition globally, especially from a costing, supply chain, and procurement perspective. The
intensity of this competition is forcing many steel producers to look for greater efficiencies form
their own operations. One of the most effective continues to be the streamlining how product,
project, and process information to create a unified system of record which can be used for
knowledge management (Armstrong, 2008). From an analysis of the readings in Using GIS
Technology for Document and Asset Management (Armstrong, 2008) it is apparent that visual
representation of information and knowledge taxonomies across the various locations of a U.S.

The main theme of the story is Ivan s Ilynch s battle with an illness and then his death, and with
this Leo Tolstoy setups up the story. Tolstoy reveals to us Ivan s entire life story up to the point
when he becomes sick. We become acquainted with Ivan s, desires and habits, his friends and
family, and his situation. The beginning chapter even though it theoretically happens after he
has already passed away also aids the setup. It provides us a more telling picture of what the people
in Ivan s social circle are like. We also get a better sense of what Ivan himself was like before he
became ill, recognizing Peter Ivanovich and his friends are similar to how Ivan used to be.
Complication
The doctors procedures didn t work. He s becoming worried that his condition might has been
getting worse since the beginning, but it takes a bit of time for it to hit him that he might just die.
This takes place in a powerful moment of realization, when Ivan stops thinking of his illness in
medical way and starts thinking about it in terms of

Case Study Of The Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles look good at the start of the 2016 NFL season. Holding a 4 2 record,
they are not far behind the NFC leaders Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings at 5 1. But many
believes that they still lack the personnel in the offensive line to contend with those elite ones.
That s why rumors are spreading that they are looking in the trade market right now with hopes
that they could catch a player to reinforce their offensive line. Earlier trade rumors have linked
them inquiring the services of San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith and Chicago Bears WR
Alshon Jeffery heating up speculation that they do have a problem in their offense. And now, they
seem to be targeting the services of OT Joe Thomas from the Cleveland Browns. According

Sexual Harassment At The Civil Rights Act
With such practices agencies protect not only the victims rights but also evidence that is later used
in cases. This stratifies Miranda Rights actives that have grave concern for the effect... that the
individual may not be compelled to incriminate himself (Linkins, 2007). This practice also satisfies
the State, who has interest in protecting clear evidence of proper due process procedures and
statements given. In instances where states aim to protect victims under different circumstances,
for example individuals using cameras to harass others; states must adapt and utilizes laws already
at their disposal.
18 USC В§ 2510 2516 addresses wire tapping and privies protection against illegally tapping

statute has been interpreted to prohibit sexual harassment in work environments (Southworth, Finn,
Dawson, Fraser, Tucker, 2007).
States can utilize other statues in an effort to protect victims. Such statues can be applied to
cameras, invasion of privacy, and even stalking attempts where cameras and such devices are used.
The need for exact laws with cameras is sometimes clear but how and what statues are not always

Anila Daulatzi Essay Examples
The Muslim Professor being dragged off her flight, racially assaulted and then charged with no
due cause is an example of prejudice leading to immoral actions. On Tuesday, October 3rd of this
year, Anila Daulatzai, who teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art, boarded a Southwest
flight in order to see her sick father. Before the flight s departure, she noticed two canines and
informed a flight attendant of her acute allergy to dogs and then was then moved to the rear of the
plane with no conflict. However, shortly afterward she was told that she would have to leave the
by two members of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. They then forcefully dragged her
out of her seat and they attempted to haul her off the plain, during the entire encounter the officers
treated her roughly, spoke to her in a condescending tone and treated her essentially like she was a
criminal. Even after she and the officers parted ways the ordeal continued because of their attempts
to charge her of with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and threatening and racist letters in the

According to Southwest, one such reason is the fact the crew believed she had a fatal allergy to
dogs. Apparently, its reports said Daulatzai told staff about a life threatening allergy. If this was
the case then it would be in the Crew, Airport, and passengers best interest to have the professor

environmental concern. Human activities towards nature not only terrified Bisnu but also affected
our ecosystem. Even the delicious wild strawberries, those which Chittru and his friend would eat

his village and not with desert like dart. When asked about the condition of trees at his village,
Bisnu, as if in a voice of protest, complains to Pritam Singh: ‚Nobody has started blasting the

Violence In Media
The Effects of Violence in the Media
Julianna V. Cronan
Alexander Early College
4th Block Honors English
Mrs. Bumgarner
Abstract
Many would say that violence in the media is the key problem in society today. However, an
analysis of violence in the media reveals that violence does create a more aggressive world, but that
is not the only plausible explanation. When violence is watched or participated in, the viewer s
heart rate and blood pressure increase and they have difficulty creating empathy for the others; they
are more apt to act out that anger. Others would argue that statistically violence has decreased in
the world, and that the violent behavior that is demonstrated by a few does not represent the whole
of society. It is with this reason that many say that there should be stricter ratings on video games
and movies, and parents should be better educated on ways to teach their children ways to deal with
the violent content in a healthy way.
The Effects of Violence in the Media
You are what you watch! An examination of violence in the media reveals that media violence does
create a more aggressive culture. Even though violent crime has decreased, violence in the media
had doubled or even tripled. This violent activities viewed by children and adults in video games
increase areas of the brain that control emotional arousal and decrease parts of the brain that deal
with self control and empathy. Studies show that children become more

Pangloss In Candide
Candide by Voltaire is a satirical work in which the author comments on religious and
philosophical beliefs in his day. Voltaire s irreverent narrative found within this book is very
telling of his own philosophical convictions. The main topic under scrutiny in this work is
Leibniz s theory of the best of all possible worlds. In this paper, I will seek to analyze the story of
Candide, and more specifically the character Pangloss, and in doing so examine Voltaires
commentary on the best of all possible worlds. It seems that the main topic of Voltaire s critique
is the Leibniz theory which states that the world we live in is the best of all possible worlds. This
theory is both explained and defended by the character Pangloss. Pangloss is the tutor of the
protagonist, Candide. Early on, Pangloss is identified as a teacher of... Show more content on

The character Pangloss undergoes horrific misfortunes all of which contradict his optimistic
convictions. For instance, Candide escapes from the Bulgars who held him captive and makes

preacher whose wife emptied over his head a pot full of... . At this point, Candide is exiled from
his home, taken by Bulgars, separated from his beloved, denied nourishment, and literally
covered in feces. And yet, when a man offers him some food, Candide exclaims: my tutor
Pangloss was quite right,... when he told me that all is for the best in this world of ours.
Immediately thereafter, Candide sees a beggar covered with sores. His eyes were lifeless, the end
of his nose had rotted away, his mouth was all askew and his teeth were black. His voice was
sepulchral, and a violent cough tormented him, at every bout of which he spat out a tooth. (28) This
pathetic character is none other than the perpetual optimist Pangloss,

Term Paper on Empowerment
в†ђ Overview
What motivates people to work? Money may be the primary reason, but beyond a certain limit it
fails to. Organizations have been trying out different things to increase the level of motivation of its
employees. Employee empowerment is one of them.
Employee empowerment means that an employee is given a chance to be enterprising, take risks
without compromising with the organizational goals, mission and vision. His say in the process of
decision making is increased. This can be for one particular individual or for the entire
organization. In the latter case it is called participative management.
There are pros and cons to this employee empowerment. Whereas it is said and has been observed
that participative management may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pros of Employee Empowerment
It leads to greater job satisfaction, motivation, increased productivity and reduces the costs.
It also leads to creativity and innovation since the employees have the authority to act on their own.
There is increased efficiency in employees because of increased ownership in their work.
Less need of supervision and delegation.
Focus on quality from the level of manufacturing till actual delivery and service of goods.
Employees when empowered become more entrepreneurial and start taking more risks. Greater the
risk, greater are the chances to succeed.
Cons of Employee Empowerment
At the individual level employee empowerment means you are an integral component of the
organization. This may sprout egotism or arrogance in the workers.
Apart from disadvantages at the organizational level, there are certain challenges that emerge at the
individual level. Supervisors often complain disgust from the empowered workers. The following
points go against employee empowerment:
Egotism / arrogance: Worker arrogance can create a big trouble for the supervisors and the
managers. There can be problems in delegating. Employees avoid reporting about their work and
feedback can be taken negatively.

Individuality In The Blind Side
I was first shown the movie The Blind Side probably sometime around middle school and I didn
t think too much about it. I used to be able to watch the movie The Blind Side and think that it
was a well directed movie with a good overall message. However, now that I have expanded my
education and gained new knowledge to process my surroundings, I now see this movie with a
new set of eyes. Eyes that are no longer foggy from the opinions that society has imbedded in us,
but instead clear from all those predetermined thoughts that most of us are constricted too. This
paper will provide a racial analysis of The Blind Side and will argue the theme of individuality as
expressed in the concepts of white privilege, institutionalized racism, and... Show more content on

Another depiction of white privilege in The Blind Side was directed in the scene where Leigh
Ann is seen having lunch with some of her friends at a fancy, expensive restaurant and is
discussing the Michael situation as if he can t fend for himself. Leigh Ann again is shown to
rise up above her lowly friends and stands up for what she believes is right and counteracts her
actions by saying that instead of her helping him, he is helping her. Turning the tables so that
she again is not in the spotlight, but Michael is. In I Beat The Odds, Michael mentions how the
people you choose to hang out with are going to have a huge impact on the choices you make
and the person you end up becoming which shows how his personal experience helped formulate
this conclusion (Oher, 2011, p.228). In retrospect, who s to say that Leigh Ann isn t also one of
these people whose character is altered to depict a more loving character rather than showing her
true thoughts and agreeing with her friends? We all know that Michael s character was altered to
make the movie flow well, so what about Leigh Ann?
Institutionalized racism was also part of multiple scenes in The Blind Side that sheltered Michael
from expressing his unique individuality. In I Beat The Odds it was mentioned how Michael like
to always be one time, like to stay clean shaved, and clean clothed, and always was a very
observing type of person, but in the

The Rosewood Hotels Resorts
The Rosewood Hotels Resorts is a private hotel management company founded in Dallas, Texas by
Caroline Rose Hunt Trust Estate in 1979. The company had been adopting an individual branding
positioning strategy, for which it managed a collection of hotels across continents under individual
property names. This positioning strategy had helped differentiate Rosewood from corporate chain
like competitors in the same industry. Prior to 2003, Rosewoods focused mainly on acquiring and
renovating properties, building 12 unique and distinctive hotels globally. This strategy proved
successful, despite the fact that the John Scott, the company s CEO and Robert Boulogne, the COO
were concerned that the company was missing out the opportunity for potential growth in brand
recognition. However, after 25 years of operation, in the year of 2004, the company encountered
some business challenges that became barriers in raising brand awareness and customer retentions.
Issue Statement
Rosewood s individual brand strategy was consistent with their brand concept: A sense of Place ,
which was the underlying standards Rosewood capitalized upon when developing their properties.
This concept implies that each hotel needed to be tailored in a way such that the unique features
and characteristics of a specific location were emphasized and prominent, in respect of interior
designs, services and amenities. This positioning strategy was sufficient to generating considerable
revenues for the company,

Kids, we have to leave now. They re almost to the barrier, grab your back and follow me. I told
them. They reached for their bags and hustled at the small cottage, knowing that they weren t
coming back. We circled around the house, reaching for a small garage which held our escape. We
were well hidden, living on a ranch and tending to crops in the nowhere of Texas until the Horde
figured out that they had Alliance adventurers in the nearby area.
Syl had opened the door into the garage and led us in. She acted as the mother of the group, even
though we were the same age. The kids walked up to the hearthstone, a magical stone that brought
anyone to anywhere they tied it to, rather rapidly due to the situation. Once, we had circled the
stone, Syl had us put our hands on the stone. The stone s cold, hard surface was our salvation in that
situation. I spoke the incantation with regret and the hearthstone reacted by glowing and humming.
I resented going back to the Alliance but I had no other hope to save the kids. Slowing but surely

The Decline Of Chocolate Industry
The Broken Dream: The Decline of the Chocolate Industry in Ghana Chocolate, as one of the
most popular sweets around the world, not only satisfies people s taste, but also provides a means
of living for many countries. Ghana is an African country that lived upon its cocoa industry. Cocoa
tree was introduced to the Ghana accidentally by a man named Tetteh Quarshie after his trip to
Spain in the late nineteenth century (Off 96 97). Because of the increasing international demand
for chocolate, the cocoa farmers in Ghana soon benefited from the cocoa trade (Off 97). By 1920,
Ghana became the world s leading cocoa beanexporter (Off 98). The booming cocoa industry
brought considerable wealth to Ghanaian cocoa farmers that they could build new houses and
roads (Ryan 10). However, the cocoa industry in Ghana was not always... Show more content on

Thus, this paper would focus on the question that what cause the decline of Ghana s chocolate
industry in the mid twentieth century? Some scholars believe that the farmers could not afford
the cost of maintaining the cocoa trees from pest and diseases, which lead to the decline of the
cocoa industry. A better answer to this question is that the cocoa industry in Ghana was prone to
the control of large organizations which were solely looking out for their own self interests. First,
the government in Ghana made specific policies targeted at the cocoa industry in order to gain
huge tax revenue. Moreover, the Ghana Cocoa Marketing Board manipulated the cocoa surplus
from the farmer to earn a profit in their own coffers. Finally, large chocolate companies controlled
the market price for cocoa to maximize their profits. The demise of the cocoa industry in Ghana is
significant for understanding the vulnerability of Ghana s economy when the country rely heavily
on cocoa beans as the cash

  • 2. How Is Language Used In Animal Farm Language can be used in many different ways. Its most powerful form is when it is used to control others. The book we just finished in class, Animal Farm, which is an extended metaphor about the events leading up to the Russian Revolution and on to the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. For example, in Animal Farm, the pigs are always threatening the animalsthat Mr. Jones would come back. Another example would be a Michelin Tires ad. This ad is saying that without these tires, you are killing your baby. Language can be uplifting and powerful, but using language to control others, holds more power. • 4. Consensus of the People in Nazi Germany The vital element in maintaining Hitler s regime remains one of the most controversial arguments amongst historians. There are many considerable factors. Historians such as Jaques Delarue and Hans Rothfels argue that terror was the main component to sustain control, whilst David Crew and Dick Geary believe it was propaganda that made it possible. However, there are other factors that are supported, for instance, contextual condition was backed by Ralph Flenly and Hans Rothfels and the people s consent, as A.J.P. Taylor proposes, was the imperative constituent. Most historians have the same problem evaluating as they have different definitions for people s consent. Silent opposition is the term used for the people who passively opposed.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also assassinated a Gestapo officer at Cologne in 1944. This behaviour demonstrated that although young people were forced to support Hitler, not all were convinced by the Propaganda. In spite of this, the Edelweiss pirates were only a small minority group. Another one of Flenly s main point is that the effects of the First World War had left a vacuum in the German politics, one which required a strong leading figure. The emotional appeal of the Nazis was very strong, the Nazi ideology fitted with the traditional values like the role of men and women and family values. Only a small group of people would deny these ideas. The Nazis offered exactly what the people wanted and they extended conventional ideals and gave the people a leader which they longed for. Their long tradition of obedience to authority and the retarded development of political and civil freedom was a sign that was also spotted by William Shirer as he claimed Acceptance of autocracy, of blind obedience to the petty tyrants who ruled as princes, became ingrained in the German mind. [6] hence the immense support shown in the election results, in November election 1933, they gained 92.9% of the overall votes. This was an achievement which cannot be credited solely to terrorism, still less to fraud.[7] Flenly s interpretation also points out that the people gave their approval ... His father and both of his grandfathers were university professors and inspired young Friedrich to be a scholar. Franz von Juraschek, his maternal grandfather, was a renowned economics and a friend of the founder of the Austrian School of Economics, Eugen BГ¶hm. However, Hayek argues that the government, as the central planner, cannot possibly know how consumers would prefer to have resources used in the production of good and services. This lack of knowledge, he calls the information problem for the central planner does not have enough information to adequately provide for the people s needs and therefore surpluses and shortages abound. Protecting protect property rights is the role of the government, Hayek stated. In his world famous book, The Road to Serfdom, he warns that government intervention will create unintended consequences which will make people clamor for more government help and lead to more government intervention and more problems. Ludwig von Mises, a close friend and colleague of Hayek, said that increasing government intervention would only lead to a socialist economy. To have economic freedom, political liberty is essential. In The Road to Serfdom, Hayek explains how when the government controls everything, they have power over the markets. This ties closely in with the idea that information is decentralized. The prices and amount of goods produced would all be controlled by the government. • 7. Social Media And Its Effect On Self Image Would you consider yourself an important person? The majority of young people in today s society would say that they indeed are important, as opposed to the very few numbers of people who felt this way in the 1950 s, according to Jean Twenge in her book Generation Me. Debora Lima agrees with Twenge and suggests that this is caused by social media in her article Social media plays large part in self image. Cathy Payne also agrees as she explains the inflation of cosmetic surgeries in her article Botox or your bills? Plastic surgerywins out. Twenge, Payne, and Lima all agree that there is a change in self image in today s young society, yet they all argue different sub points on this subject. Overall, there has been a noticeable change in self image. In chapter 2 An Army of One: Me of Generation Me, Jean Twenge discusses self image. First, she explains how Gen Me ers are focused on the self and how their self esteem is much higher than Baby Boomers . The author reports how children are encouraged to focus on themselves. This sometimes creates narcissism instead, declares the author. Another thing brought up is how teachers are beginning to not criticize students because it may damage their self esteem. To conclude, Twenge argues how Gen Me ers have a positive self image, but this may not be a good thing (Twenge 44 71). While discussing the change in self image, Twenge s target audience is comprised of Gen Me ers and Baby Boomers. Both of these groups would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nativists believe that people s behaviour is the result of many years of evolution and adaptation and that our individual differences stem from the genetics we inherit from our parents. An example of this nativist theory was theorized by Noam Chomsky. He proposed that all children are born with an instinct mental capacity to both produce and learn language. If people are able to inherit the ability to learn language, does this mean that other behavioural traits and abilities are also inherited? Those in favour of explaining human behaviour by way of nurture are called empiricists. These empiricists believe that the mind begins as a blank slate, which is also known as tabula rasa. This notion then explains that our experiences and memories shape who we are, how we behave, and what our knowledge is by filling the blank slate during our years of life. Albert Bandura s social learning theory is an example within the empiricist side of psychology. This theory suggested that people learn by observing the behaviour of others. In his Bobo doll experiment, it was observed that children could learn aggressive behaviour by watching adults act aggressively. Was this imitated aggressive behaviour the result of the environment children were put into, or did they have a genetic predisposition for violence and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Cultures And Characteristics Of Cultural Imperialism In... Cultural Imperialism in Pakistan Cultural Imperialism is a term which got fame in late 1960s. It is basically about the cultural characteristics of Imperialism. Imperialism means domination of something. Generally dominant nations tend to invade other country s culture through media. In this way they not only manipulate the ideology of targeted country but also changed their cultural values. If we look deep in history then we came to know that third world countries are most influenced by this kind of media content. Also these countries wants to enjoy global culture; so they adopt global culture by itself and thus their own culture become extinct. Pakistani society is also a prey of this feature of imperialism. • 10. Statistical Analysis Examples Statistical Analyses The following physiological measures were assessed for statistical significance: RMSSD, HF power, SBP, DBP and HR. A natural log transformation was applied to HRV measures prior to the analysis. Each measure was analyzed using a one way repeated measures ANOVA across each experimental condition: baseline, stressor, recovery. The application of repeated measures ANOVA calls for the assumption that the dependent variables follow a normal distribution. In the context of this study, normal distribution cannot be demonstrated given the small sample size. However, the present study serves as a pilot study and thus normality will be overlooked in favor of obtaining a sense of the quality of the physiological data. As such, the presence of a normal distribution will be assumed for subsequent statistical analyses. Additionally, the assumption of Mauchly s Test of Sphericity was assumed to be violated in each case, and the Greehouse Geisser correction was used in the resulting analyses. Post hoc tests with Bonferroni s correction were conducted to assess statistical significancebetween each experimental condition with one another. An О± level of .05 was used, therefore probability values .05 were determined to be significant. Results Table 1 summarizes the means and standard deviations obtained from descriptive statistics. For the most part LSD treatment plans ceased in the 1970s this was mainly due to the fact that unregulated experiments involving highly hallucinogenic drugs on sometimes unwilling participants became frowned upon and rightly so. LSD can be dangerous depending on the dosage and back in the 50s and 60s researchers would just keep upping the dosages until they felt they got the desired results. You can see how that could get morally and ethically confusing. The first example this paper covers is a study published in 1957 involving the use of LSD on psychoneurotic patients under day hospital conditions; the overall goal being to make these psychoneurotic people more manageable on a day to day basis. According to the author of the study, Dr. Joyce Martin, the patients selected for treatment had to meet certain criteria such as: no prior psychotic episodes, a good personality and high intelligence. (Martin, 1957). It is unclear if the patients in this study knew what was going to happen to them and it is also unclear if these patients participated willingly. This was of course a time where strict ethics board did not exist and patient consent/knowledge was not always required to conduct scientific experiments. Regardless, the experiments themselves were simple: patient arrives at the hospital, eats breakfast, is put into their own room, an initial dosage of 25 to 50 gamma of LSD was administered, dosage is increased until desired effect is achieved, patients are monitored and offered lunch which they often refused due to nausea and then the reaction was terminated by administering Largactil. Results varied from the patients becoming more receptive to less receptive. • 16. The Politics Of Nostalgia In Disneyland And Christine... Firstmost, we must define the politics of nostalgia. The politics of nostalgia can be defined as a repudiation of present day social, economic, and cultural realities for a past that may not reflect reality (Suarez, Walt Disney Lecture). Henceforth, the politics of nostalgia is an individual s concept and memory of past realities while rejecting all other ideas. This concept can be applicable to several locations, events, and individuals, but the two locations I want to focus on is Walt Disney s Disneyland and Christine Sterling s Olvera Street. Christine Sterling created Olvera Street, a site where Mexican American culture is up on a display. When Sterling came to Los Angeles in mid 1920 s, she expected to find Spanish romance around every corner, only to suffer disappointment (Kropp 211). Due to her disappointment, Sterling wanted to create a site where the colors of Spanish, Mexican romance can be highlighted (Kropp 211). Therefore, she strived for this very goal, which became Olvera Street. Moving on, the politics of nostalgia are applicable for this scenario. Sterling certainly had a romantic vision of Mexican American culture and history, despite the fact that this very history does contain parts that are not as pleasant. She created Olvera Street based on her view of the romantic Spanish past (Kropp 210). Consequently, this included costumes and a continual round each year of fiestas (Kropp 213). Another point is that when Sterling first came to see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Impact Of Foreign Policy On International Trade Essay Ever since the first involvement of government in international trade, many people have posed their opinion about what the role of government should be in it. Different factors are involved when it comes to deciding what this should be. It impacts a lot of people, so in order to do that, trade policy must be properly defined, identify what the roles of government currently are, and their involvement in it, and then analyse what should be their role. Trade policy is how a country carries out trade with other countries (Commercial Policy, n.d). Even though a lot of people support government intervention in international trade, countries would benefit a lot more if the government removes protectionism and promotes free tradeinstead. Trade policy is defined as a collection of rules and regulations that are made by public officials which relate to trade (Trade Policy, 2010). An organisation that makes the rules of trading amongst its member nations is the World Trade Organisation (WTO). They are the ones who handles trade issues, supervises trade policies, gives technical assistance to developing countries and participates with other international trade organisations (World Trade Organisation, n.d). Hollywood and mainstream media have also began depicting, rather explicitly, male genitalia often enlarged using padding and photoshop (Bordo, 168). This stands true especially for advertisement campaigns for underwear. If you compare the pictures of the Calvin Klein underwear advertisement, you can see how Photoshop is used to give the model seemingly larger genitalia than in real life. Over years of seeing such advertisements and depictions, it can create a serious impact on the males viewing such images as it may leave them feeling inadequate or not manly enough even though such images have been under Photoshop to seem bigger. Such feelings can create real psychological damage where men may feel that big genitalia constitutes as manly. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It can occur anywhere in the body and at any age (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144). All fractures follow the same mechanism and require similar care regardless of type or location. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A fracture is classified by the severity of the break being either complete or incomplete fractures: A complete fracture is a break along the width of the bone resulting in the bone being separated into two sections. An incomplete fracture is a fracture that does not result in the separation of bone because the break is only partially through the bone. This type of fracture still needs to be managed by stabilization of the bone and realignment if necessary. Open fractures are ones in which a portion of the bone breaks through the skin or a wound penetrates through to a fractured bone (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures frequently involve more damage to surrounding tendons, ligaments, and muscles than in a closed fractures. • 48. Violence In Media The Effects of Violence in the Media Julianna V. Cronan Alexander Early College 4th Block Honors English Mrs. Bumgarner Abstract Many would say that violence in the media is the key problem in society today. However, an analysis of violence in the media reveals that violence does create a more aggressive world, but that is not the only plausible explanation. When violence is watched or participated in, the viewer s heart rate and blood pressure increase and they have difficulty creating empathy for the others; they are more apt to act out that anger. Others would argue that statistically violence has decreased in the world, and that the violent behavior that is demonstrated by a few does not represent the whole of society. It is with this reason that many say that there should be stricter ratings on video games and movies, and parents should be better educated on ways to teach their children ways to deal with the violent content in a healthy way. The Effects of Violence in the Media You are what you watch! An examination of violence in the media reveals that media violence does create a more aggressive culture.
