Concert Review
I attended this concert at CU Denver s King Center, Concert Hall. Although the architectural design
and surrounding did not attest to much artistic creativity, the actual concert was better than my
expectations. I did have lower expectations because it was presented by students instead of
professional musicians or dancers as in my last concert review. The ensemble, a collaborative outcome
from MSU Denver and other dance/cultural music groups from denver, was actually a mix of African
and Indian/East Asian music and dance. The two teams alternated between each other giving the
audience a great deal of contrast of movement and sound. My favorite were the second and fifth
performances, African and Indian respectively.
The second performance by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They presented a story of a goddess teasing a boy with a magical ball, then throwing it into a pond
where a monster is asleep. The boy then awakens this monster trying to reach the ball. The story is
meant to encourage people to face their fears and fight for what they want. I liked how they used the
same movements when they were describing the story before starting their performance which they
later used during the dance. For example, one of the dancers showed the same throwing movement
which she later used in the performance. The dance was accompanied by an Indian chant like song
over the speakers. It had the same simplistic nature as the African music discussed above which I
again noticed that it put the focus on the dancers. They music and movement was much slower and
calmer than the Africans, which makes sense when seen in light of the Eastern Asian spiritual
philosophy of

Diversity In America s Racial History
Commencing with the straightforward, yet unethical act of introducing slaves, regardless of race, to
America, racial tension wedged itself into America s atmosphere in the past, its conscience in the
present, and legacy in the future. As America s racial history did not reflect the most pleasant aspects
of the events and concepts in America s history, its racial history, however, profoundly reflected the
racial relations we, as individuals and a collective society experience today, with present events
regarding racial issues able to be traced back to racial conflicts in history such as the civil rights
movements, racist laws designed to maintain the social hierarchy, and white supremacist groups that
exist to this very day. With the many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

history in that not just Martin Luther King Jr., but many other civil rights leaders have laid the path in
equal rights and indirectly given today s society an insight of the effects of certain actions in the past
and the consequences of events in the present and future. Regardless of King and others mindset in
terms of leading future generations to carry on the fight and the thirteenth amendment that legally
abolished slavery except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted

The Discovery Of A New Treatment Against Malaria
TU YOUYOU.
Tu Youyou was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China on 30th December 1930. (Rogers 2016).
According to Nobelprize.org (2016), She is married and blessed with two daughters. None of her
parents were into medicine but they recognised the value of education and fully supported her. She
schooled at Peking University School of Medicine from 1952 till 1955 in the department of
Pharmaceutical Science (Edubilla.com 2015). According to her autobiography, she had tuberculosis
when she was 16 years which made her stop schooling for close to two years. This event influenced
her to want to become a medical researcher. After she finished from Peking in 1955, she was delegated
to work in the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica of the newly established Academy of Traditional
Chinese Medicine under the China Ministry of Health (Youyou 2016). She is no a chief scientist at

Her main scientific breakthrough is the discovery of a new treatment against malaria. (Mai, 2015).
When all attempts to kill malaria failed and the disease was rapidly increasing in the 1960s, Tu turned
to traditional herbal medicine to curtail the plague. Tu was the first to show that a component
extracted from the plant Artemisia annua, later called artemisinin, was highly effective against the

Rommel Desert Fox
Rommel aka Desert Fox The man best known as the Desert Fox was born 15 November 1891 to
parents Erwin Rommel Senior and Helen von Lutz who named their son Erwin Johannes Eugene
Rommel. Rommel s family was not a military one, his father like his father before him were teachers
while his mother was the daughter of a high ranking government official. (Kurowski 2010) It is not
known why a man with no military family connections would be led to join the army but I believe that
he was influenced by the growing Nationalism in Germany at the time. He became an officer cadet in
1910 with the124th Wurttemberg Infantry Regiment where he was commissioned a Leutnant in 1911.
After his commission he would go on to marry Lucia Mollin on 27 November 1916, they would later
have a son whom they named Manfred Rommel. It is rumored that he had a daughter born in 1913
named Gertrud Stemmler from a relationship with Walburga Stemmer which was before his marriage.
(History.com n.d.) Who could have guessed that 33 years later he would hold the rank of
Generalfeldmarschall and be one of the most famous battlefield leaders of the Second World War. One
can only wonder about the path that led a son of a teacher from the world of academia to the
battlefields of World War I. His first unit that he fought with in WWI was the 6th Wurttemberg
Regiment but soon transferred into the Wurttemberg Mountain Battalion of the elite Alpenkorp which
was known for its adaptability which enabled the unit to meet the

Influence Of Christianity On Dantes Inferno
In the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, there is an apparent use of an engaging number of literary
devices throughout his entire story. This enriching quality in Dante s writing is a major part of why his
stories became so influential in history, even in to today s society. His writing also had a major
influence on the religion of Christianity, specifically the Catholic Church. At the same time,
Christianity had major inspiration on his writing. His use of spiritual allusions is filled from the
beginning to the end of the comedy, ranging from biblical to mythological references. The biblical
influence in the Divine Comedy goes into the very structure of the story. This allegory is the journey
of Dante and his guides toward the soul of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could argue that the idea of hell alone could be a Christian ideal, but this idea belongs to many
other religions and is far too broad. Dante describes the inferno as having nine different circles, each
with a different level of punishment. The nine different circles do not pertain to Christian literature,
however, Luke 12:47 48 does suggest there are different types of punishment. When Virgil and Dante
are about to set their quest into the inferno, he tells Dante that he will see and hear the screams of
people in their second death. This idea of a second death comes from Revelations 21.8 when it is
explained that the the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which
burneth with fire and brimstone (Rev 21:8, KJV). These are the people that inhabit the inferno,
derived from Christian judgement and approved by Dante s hell. There are also many biblical
characters mentioned while Virgil explains Dante s upcoming quest. Dante mentions the successors of
the Apostle Peter (Inferno Canto II 24), St. Paul and his venture into heaven (2 Corinthians 12.2 4,
KJV), and of A gracious lady, who sits in heaven grieving, also known as the Virgin Mary (Inferno
Canto II 93). Other characters are also addressed such as when Virgil and Dante are approaching the
City of Dis when they see, more than a thousand fiendish angels (Inferno Canto VIII 83). These angels
are the rebel angels that were cast out of heaven and hurled to the earth (Rev 12:9, KJV) along with
Satan in Revelation 12.9. Towards the end of their journey in the inferno, far across the ice, Virgil and
Dante see the massive figure of Lucifer. In the bible, Lucifer, also known as the light bearer, was the
most beautiful of angels before he rebelled against god. He was then renamed Satan, even though he is

The company s creams inventory remains constant because it does not follow a trend in innovation
and changes so often as the other products. The surplus in inventory is a big disadvantage since; last
year s products may not be in style this year in addition to the cost of storage. For all these reasons
their cash flow is less in comparison with previous years causing that Luxor Cosmetics keeps
increasing their bank loans, creating more debt, making it harder to pay out as 2011. In this particular
situation the company could have either decrease its budgeted sales (productions) or increase its actual
sales by improving more effective marketing strategy and research and development of its products in
the markets. This way their inventory would decrease and their cash flow would increase. (Hopkins,
2009)
Further, through effective marketing strategy Luxor

The Life and Opinions of Tristam Shandy Essay
The term identity is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as blah blah blah . This concept can be
viewed as personal and individual to one s self, and is distinguished as an umbrella term to attributes
such as; consciousness, heritage, name, appearance, and the soul. As Sterne s novel Tristram Shandy
draws influence from John Locke s An Essay of Human Understanding, in which Locke discusses the
origin of personal identity, the individual identity is evidently reflected within the text. The novel
demonstrates Sterne s interpretation of the personal identity through the construction of each of his
unique characterisations. Tristram Shandy discusses the concept and origin of the individuality
identity both reflecting and opposing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sterne can be seen to draw influence from the 18th Century philosopher, John Locke. Locke discusses
the theory that individual identity is formed through consciousness and experience, and not upon the
soul and body; this may show us wherein personal identity consists: not in the identity of substance,
but, as I have said, in the identity of consciousness. (Locke). As Tristram believes the other
misfortunate experiences within his childhood amount to his individual identity, this also suggests an
origin of identity developed from his personal experiences. He believes that experiencing the many
misfortunes such as his accidental naming and castration, disturbance as a homunculus and broken
nose reshape his identity and that he is in a sense doomed to live a misfortunate life. In response to
reading Tristram Shandy alongside the work of Locke, Heather Keenleyside states that such readings
often understand Tristram Shandy as a novelization of Locke s much discussed distinction [...] On this
view, Tristram Shandy follows Locke in arguing for the priority of personal identity over the body and
its associates: the family and the species, birth and death. (Keenleyside, pg117) The protagonist states
that the soul and body are joint sharers in everything they get (Sterne, pg435), composing them as
separate but equal quantities of his

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Influence Renaissance Art
Renaissance painting and sculpture produced in Europe during the historical Renaissance is
considered to cover at least 200 years between 1400 and 1600. The word renaissance is derived from
the French and translated literally means rebirth. The Renaissance period in art history resembles a
time during the western age of discovery and exploration. Art and sculpture, during this time, became
appreciated as a personal manner of communication and expression. Sculptors were the first to present
new Renaissance forms during the early 15th century. The oldest sculptor was Filippo Brunelleschi.
Brunelleschi later became an architect and was widely known for designed the octagonal dome of
Florence Cathedral which was completed in the year 1436. Brunelleschi is known for developing a

Renaissance spread all throughout Italy, France, and northern Europe. After this time, there was a rise
in the interest of classical learning and values and the time period created an environment of growing

Films on Demand: Sociology Collection: Social Institutions
There are different social institutions such as family, education, religion, health care, government, and
the economy and work. Each of these are important to society for many reasons. They make people
who they are and teaches them how to function in society. Family is where everything should start.
Your family is the first form of socialization that you experience as well as the religion that your
family is a part of. Religion is another thing that helps to form who you are. As you grow education is
another big part of your formation. Family, religion and education are the first three social institutions
that a person has to deal with.

Involvement. This video was about the different ways that children are learning. In the beginning it
talked about how children are expect to be taught something and memorize it then give the
information back to the instructor. It goes on to show how children who actually get to get out and
experience the information then they are learning better. It is more of a hands on way of learning. It
also got the children to interact with the other children and not just read about how something work.
They are able to learn and see what goes on.
Each institution influences everyone differently. For me I am influence by my family more than
anything. My family is what I look at as to how I am supposed to behave and relate to society. My
mother was the one who taught me how to act for an early age so that I knew what was acceptable and
what was not. Religion is not really something that has influence me as much as I thought it had. After
doing my own research on different religions I am able to look at the different religions that are out
there and have an open mind. I again have to credit my mom here because she helped me to
understand that just because we are Catholic does not mean that everyone out there is. The last
institution that was discussed in this paper was education. This is another

when the fugitive slave act was enforced. This meant that any slave that came to the North as a

thought, they had to follow the law and help aid in the capture of the slaves to return them back to
where they came from. Tubman didn t let this defeat her, she rerouted the Underground Railroad to
Canada. Tubman and her fugitive slaves remained uncaptured and safe as they made their journey to
Canada (Harriet Tubman Biography). There are two things I ve got a right to, and these are, Death or

Specific purpose: Today, I am going to advocate for the Crisis Intervention and Recovery Center
Credibility: I have completed research about the Crisis Intervention and Recovery Center. I never

Swot Analysis Of Sears Holdings
Sears Holdings (SHLD)
Sears, the icon, and leading retailer for generations has marked the lives of the consumers. Founded in
1886 by Richard Sears, the company originally provided catalog sales of gold filled watches under
R.W. Sears Watch Company, and partnered with Alvah Roebuck, a watchmaker from Indiana. Both
introduced the company s mail order catalog of watches and jewelry services in 1893. Over the years,
Sears has expanded its operations by launching major national long lasting and successful brands such
as Kenmore, a line of appliances, Craftsman, a line of tools, land, garden equipment, and work wear,
followed by DieHard, a brand of automotive battery.
Sears has been a disruptive innovator in the retail industry for over 100 years; however, by early in the
nineties, the company reached its peak in growth and started experiencing a downward decline in
sales, which caused the company to start spinning off critical business investment portfolio. In 1995,
Arthur C. Martinez became the Chairman of the Board and CEO. His vision was to keep Sears alive
despite of the company s financial downfall. In 2005, Kmart acquired Sears forming a new
corporation named Sears Holding Corporation as a result of the merge and the appointment of Edward
Lampert as the new CEO of the company. Sears Holdings has had a lack of leadership spirit, poor
internal marketing oriented performance, and fuzzy vision on growth aligned with long term customer

Nuclear Weapons Make The World A Safer Place
Debate Leadership Presentation October 21: Nuclear weapons make the world a safer place
POSITION: NO In order to determine whether or not nuclear weapons create a safer world, one must
consider what it means to be safe. According to Oxford Dictionaries, the word safe is defined as being
protected from or not exposed to danger or risk, not likely to be harmed or lost. How can something so
powerfully destructive be associated with safety? In addition to this, one may ask safe for who?
Nuclear weapons pose a legitimate threat to many aspects of life, both immediate and long term.
These intense consequences have been documented over time. The World Health Organization has
stated that nuclear weapons can create the greatest human catastrophe, for which health services in the
world could not alleviate the situation in any significant way. It is not possible to win a nuclear war.
There is no effective outcome and certainly no safe outcome. When a confrontation takes place
between alliances that possess nuclear weapons, there is the possibility of unintentional escalation
created by a false warning or unauthorized launch. This almost took place in 1979 due to the fact that
a training tape by NATO was mistaken as being real. Even an alliance with many nuclear weapons is
not safe against attack. A successful first strike, if able to even target one hundred nuclear bursts, has
the potential to abolish any nation s civilization. The first and perhaps most obvious threat is

How I love the smell of a fresh cup of Starbucks coffee to get the day started. As a coffee lover, I often
venture to Starbucks to meet my caffeine needs. Starbucks began as a single storefront located in
Seattle s Pike Place Market. As of July 2012, the company has 17, 651 stores in 60 different countries
around the world, with the mission to inspire and nurture the human spirit one cup, one person and
one neighborhood at a time (Starbucks, 2012). Enhancing the value of the company are the additional

Make recommendations about what Starbucks can do to successfully encourage greater coffee
consumption. Starbucks may not be able to successfully change as many consumers over to drinking
coffee as they may like. Starbucks may actually be in the process of converting their business to meet
the demands of tea in China. Starbucks is also the owners of the Tazo brand that markets a variety of
tea choices. Starbucks is planning to brand a Tazo store, mimicking that of the Starbucks chains that
can be found on every corner in New York City. The signature feature of the 1,700 square foot store
will be its blending stations, a showcase for 80 varieties of loose teas, where employees will guide
customers through creating their own personalized blends. The loose teas will be sold by the ounce at
prices comparable to specialty grocery stores. In the Tazo café, customers can slow down and learn
about tea ... and can immerse themselves in a sensory rich experience, Shafer said. We re creating a tea
playground for customers that are looking for that experience. (Thau, 2012)
The café s are said to specialize in handcrafted teas, bagged teas, and iced teas at a tea bar. There will

The Success Of The Pizza Industry
Introduction Domino s has been serving up pizzas to the public since the 1960 s, when it was created
by Tom Monahan and his brother James. They managed to carve out a niche in the market when they
decided to focus on making fast pizza as opposed to quality pizza. Dominos famous tag line If it s not
delivered in 30 minutes, it s free! For many years this strategy worked and catapulted Dominos to the
leading organization in the business. However, after many years of success, the pizza industry started
to evolve and Dominos found itself facing declining sales numbers, high employee turnover, and poor
consumer ratings in taste tests. If the company were going to survive it had to re evaluate its long
standing value proposition, revamp its food, and also restructure its HR strategies. All of which were
done successfully, but this paper will focus on the latter of the group Dominos HR strategies. The
People First Department One major problem Dominos faced, like many fast food chains, was rampant
employee turnover. Dominos turnover rate was 158 percent annually. In other words, for every
employee hired during a year another 1.5 employees quit (Snell, et al. pg. 78, 2015). In 2009, with
rising customer dissatisfaction, sharper declines in sales, and obvious employee dissatisfaction
Dominos decided to launch a franchise wide turnaround. A major change introduced was the
restructuring of HR and the value recognition placed on its employees. The HR Department was no

Essay about The Disputed Reign of Dowager Empress Tz’u-hsi
The Disputed Reign of Dowager Empress Tz u hsi Historical record is not always an accurate
representation of fact. An example of this would be the long reign of the Dowager Empress Tz u hsi,
in which there were hundreds of documents written about her life. These documents have been taken
and used in the production of numerous books, especially among Western historians. It was these early
historians who have established the widely accepted perspective that Tz u hsi hungered for power,
abused it, and retained it using any means necessary. This understanding is echoed today by authors
such as W.G. Sebald, author of The Rings of Saturn. There are many differences between the accounts
of the Western perspective and that of Sebald s, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She then had three princes, who had acted as the late emperor s viceroys, charged with treason and
graciously allowed them to commit suicide using a silken rope (147 8). This idea about her craving for
power is reiterated with Sebald s claim of the mysterious deaths of her son and pregnant daughter in
law who seemed healthy until the Emperor becomes old enough to rule without the Empress (148).
Then the Empress had them replaced by an heir who would be easier to control: her two year old
nephew Kuang hsu (148). Sebald described the second emperor, Kaung hsu, as being fascinated by the
mysteries of modern machines (152). Although this may seem like a minute detail, Kaung Hsu s love
of modern machines is a representation of his favor for modernization. It was this interest in
modernization that eventually led to a great disagreement with the Empress (152). Once it was clear
that Tz u hsi would deny the nation of Kaung hsu s ideas of modernization, Kaung hsu attempted to
wrest power to himself and was stopped by the Empress (152). The Empress then imprisoned Kaung
hsu in a moated palace (152). Once the Emperor was confined, the Empress would be able to rule
uncontested for as long as she lived and as long as the Emperor was powerless. To keep the Emperor
powerless, Tz u hsi made sure that he stayed isolated for ten years until the late summer of 1908 when
he started having chronic headaches and backache, renal cramps, hypersensitivity to

Victorian Spiritualism Controversy
The Spiritualism was and still is a controversial topic the controversy comes in with what is what
people believe in. Spiritualism was based on the spirits that lived on after death but not everyone
believed or believes in the spirits still existing after death. Spiritualists were mostly women who
within them had many feminists beliefs in which they demonstrated that women should have the same
rights as men. Alex Owen in The Darkened Room: Women, Power, and Spiritualism in Late Victorian
England, introduces how women power became a problem in Victorian society... Despite the fact that
gender categories are always open to contestation, and that there were underlying tensions in the
nineteenth century thinking about femininity, the idea of female ... Show more content on

Society looked at Spiritualists as mentally ill and that created a problem between medical practices
and spiritualists. In Science and the Séance: Transgressions of Gender and Genre in Late Victorian
London by Judith R. Walkowitz she describes, Spiritualists responded by elaborating an iconography
of male medical evil, portraying the doctor as a fraud and as a sexuality dangerous man, a divided
personality whose science made him cruel, blood thirsty, and hyper masculine because it suppressed
his feminine, spiritual part (Walkowitz 5). The images that were put out by both sides created a real
struggle with knowing what the truth. Did the women have and illness or was it just the control that
the doctors and science had on the society at the time? Doctors had creditability because they worked
of facts. But in this case they were not working of full facts they were mostly working on diagnoses of
how women acted and used it as a way of justifying their view on spiritualism by using the medical
field. The view that psychiatrists at that time had on spiritualism was that is affected weak minded
hysterical women but in reality these women were very progressed for their time. Spiritualism was a
way for women mostly of middle class to find a sanctuary and create their own culture. The séance
that happened was a way to express their feelings in other ways. The spiritual part was a lot more

Nonverbal Expectance Violation Theory
As I researched various theories, the Nonverbal Expectancy Violation Theory stood out to me the
most. Neuliep (2015) has described this theory as people holding expectancies about the
appropriateness of the nonverbal behaviors of others. The Nonverbal Expectancy Theory (NEV) was
formulated by Dr. Judee Burgoon. Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) states the basic tenet undergirding
NEV theory holds that individuals have expectations of how things will be and how people will
behave. Sidelinger and Bolen also states that expectancy refers to what an individual expects or
predicts will happen in an interaction. When we make an assumption, we are partaking in
expectancies. Burgoon (as cited by Sidelinger and Biolen, 2015) notes that what we expect in an
interaction is based on three factors, context, relationship, and communicator characteristics.
Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) believes that our expectancy can be determined by our environment. For
an example, the way I communicate at the playground with my children is different than how I
communicate at the grocery store. The expectancy of relationships is based on the connection we have
with the person with whom we are interacting with. Finally, Sidelinger and Bolen (2015), states that
communicator characteristics refer to the demographics (gender, age, race etc.) of the other in the
interaction and additional characteristics such as the other s communication style.
Additionally, the perception of how we view someone plays a role in how we expect them to react or
interact. If I am playing with a Poodle, I expect it to be fun, playful, and bubbly. If I am playing with a
Rottweiler, I expect it to be aggressive and assertive. While these are my expectancy of the dogs it
could turn out to be the opposite of my assumption. There are two types of expectancies. Predictive
and prescriptive. Offering a counterpoint to this perspective is nonverbal expectancy violations theory,
which posits that violating social norms and expectations may sometimes be a superior strategy to
conformity in achieving such communication outcomes as attraction, credibility, helping behavior, and
persuasion, Burgoon and Aho,; Burgoon, Coker, and Coker, Burgoon and Hale; Burgoon and Jones;

Tay Sachs Disease In Children
Imagine giving birth to a beautiful seemingly healthy baby, the doctor wiping him or her off and
handing it to you. Two days later, the hospital discharges you, and you begin to spend the next 3
months adjusting your new baby to your home. Towards the 4 month mark you realize some serious
symptoms that are hard to ignore such as the inability to grow beyond his or her small figure., inability
to hold something like a spoon or even your finger, and lastly lack of eye contact. Scary as this
scenario may seem, at least 16 babies are diagnosed with Tay Sachs disease in United States every
year. Unfortunately, the diagnosed cases are only found in toddlers because, children with this disease
only survive to the age of 5 years of age.

Business Law and Repetitive Strain Injury Essay
It is important for business management to develop and promote sound health and safety policies and
to consider, not only the legal requirements and the possibility of prosecution, but also the possibility
of an employee personal injury claim. The number of work related personal injury claims and
especially those relating to Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), an umbrella term normally used to describe
Work Related Upper Limb Disorders (WRULD), seem to be rising. RSI is not a recognised medical
condition, more a medical term. There are two types: type 1 RSI with recognised, specific pathological
conditions and type 2 RSI non specific pain syndrome (NSPS) or Diffuse RSI, which as the name
suggests is difficult to diagnosis. Some medical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An Act for the preservation of health and morals of apprentices and others employed in cotton and
other mills and other factories . The act was the first effort to regulate factory working conditions and
was important not only for the child labour improvements, but also significantly influenced further
legislation and its future direction. Further legislation followed. Some of the most significant included
the Factory Act 1833, empowering Crown inspectors to introduce and enforce health and safety. The
Ten Hours Act of 1847, followed by the Factory and Workshop Act in 1878 dictated working hours
and minimum employment age. The Factory Act 1901 covered employment and the education of
children, night work, fire, and overtime pay. In1937 the Factories Act legislated the first complete
system for safety, health and welfare requirements applicable to all factories and in 1961 new and
existing legislation was consolidated and expanded to cover all workplaces, in the Factories Act 1961.
Whereas all previous legislation was prescriptive the HASAWA etc 1974 was a significant change. It
was developed to cover and integrate all previous health and safety legislation, and provide a universal

the document does not meet the criteria of a Quit Claim Deed. FORTUNATELY, the closing attorney s
firm (once the property is under contract) can email a copy of Quit Claim Deed directly to your ex
wife and she can sign it front of public notary (and likely front of non related witnesses as well the
closing attorney s firm should later give further signing instruction) and she can simply overnight it
back to the closing attorney s office. That being said, this concludes what needs to be done in regards
to a Quit Claim Deed. Therefore,

Structure Of Skeletal System Of The Human Body
Structure of Skeletal System
The human body is made up of 206 bones held together by ligaments, whilst joints provide mobility.
Ligaments are a band of tough, flexible connective tissue which connects two bones. The skeleton
forms a frame at which the internal organs rest and over which muscles and skin is layered over.
The bones of the human skeleton are divided into 2 groups: axial and appendicular skeletons. The
axial skeleton forms the axis of the body and it includes the bones of the skull, ribcage and the spine.
These bones are there to support, protect and carry other body. For example, the spine is a part of the
axial skeleton and it protects the spinal cord.

cancellous tissue between them. The sternum and scapula are flat bones.
Irregular bones Complex shapes that fit none of the other categories of bone because of their odd
shape. The facial bone and vertebrae are some examples.
Sesamoid bones Specialised function: they make joint movement easy and resist friction. They are
covered with a layer of cartilage as they are found where bones articulate. Although they look small,
sesamoid bones vary in size. The largest is the patella.
Location of major bones
The human skeleton consists of groups that contain one or more major bones.
Skull the bony framework of the head consisting of facial and cranial bones which form the cranium.
The skull protects the brain.
Shoulder girdle This consists of 4 bones, two clavicles and two scapulae. The clavicle connects the
humerus to the torso. An end of the clavicle is connected to the sternum and the other end is connected
to the shoulder blade.
Chest The chest is made up by the ribs and sternum and it protects the heart and the lungs. The
sternum is a flat bone that is found in the middle of the chest. The ribs are thin and flat and there are

The Performance Based Budgeting And The Approach Of...
Hoover Performance Budgeting
Performance based budgeting refers to the approach of allocating funds that link measured results with
policy decisions. It focuses on results and outcomes of programs rather than on the cost of inputs. It
facilitates greater and more scientific accountability for outcomes. Fund allocation is prioritised based
on a program s ability to achieve goals.
Legislative Analyst s Office [1] defines performance based budget as:
... the allocation of resource based on an expectation of performance levels, where performance is
measured in specific, meaningful terms. It differs from the traditional approach to budgeting in that it
focusses on outcomes rather than on inputs or processes. [1]

The Hoover Commission made the following observations for performance budgeting while
recommending overhaul of the nation s budget process:
Under performance budgeting, government departments and agencies would prepare budgets
according to their major functions, activities and projects [8] focusing on the impact of the activity or
service instead of things to be acquired [8]
These budget reforms aimed to provide holistic information about programs and activities based on
measurement of ultimate impact of outcomes through parameters that measured effectiveness and
efficiency of operations. Thus the question of optimal utilization of resources and whether the
government is allocating them accordingly was to be addressed by this reform.
The Commission recommendations on performance budgeting requirements (HPB) were implemented
through two legislations: The National Security Act Amendments (1949) and the Budgeting and
Accounting Procedures Act (BAPA), 1950 that prescribed a less prescriptive definition of performance
budgeting that instituted country wide adoption of this budget technique.
Elements of Hover Performance Budgeting (HPB)
Performance measurement based processes require certain elements as prerequisite in each of the four
stages viz proposal; negotiation and approval; execution and reporting. To be meaningful,
performance measurement in budgeting must be reflected in each stage

Theme Of Supernatural In Things Fall Apart
In Thing s Fall Apart death is represented in one instance as a religous act. When Okwonkwo is
ordered to kill Ikemufuna it was nt simply because he wanted to. In reality he didn t want anything to
do with the death but it was a sacrifice ordered by the oracle. In Okwonkwo s efforts to never look
weak he particpates in the killing of Ikemefuna even though he was told not to. Death in the novel also
represents betrayal, I say this because Ikemefuna called Okwonkwo his dad. Through the beginning of
the text til when Ikemufuna is sacraficed no one seen that coming. Okwonkwo is a trader because not
only did he love the kid as his own, but Ikemufuna actually says to him My Father, they have killed
me! right before Okwonkwo finishes the job. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some that are listed in the text are Ani, Amadiora, Idemeli,Agbala, and Ogwugwu and they are
believed to be the source of the communities stability and peace. The gods aren t the only evidence of
supernatural beliefs in the text, the fact that the people of Umuofia practice/believe in certain rituals
and ceremonies contribute to the role of supernatural.
In Things Fall Apart Okwonkwo was told to kill Ikemefuna, the village boy who has become like a
son to him. The religous allusion refers to the Last Supper when Abraham was ordered to kill his son
Isaac by god. Okwonkwo in Things Fall Apart is playing Abraham and the Oracle is the god who
orders him to do so. Ikemefuna is Isaac in this biblical allusion, the oracle doesnt want Okwonkwo to
have anything to do with the killing of Ikemefuna. This represents the angel that comes down and
stops Abraham from killing Isaac.
In the novel Things Fall Apart Okwonkwo does not want to be weak like his father, so he is on a
jorney to have a better life. He did not want to folloow the path of his father he wished to show
everyone he is not weak as his father seemed to leave him. He is on a journey to live a better wealthier

Roger And Me Sociology
In the movie Roger and me by Michael Moore, the film reflects upon Flint, Michigan and the impact
of Roger s Smith position of closing down the Towns. Michael when he first heard about this in
California, decided to go down to his old town and wanted to document the direct impact it will have
on his hometown s lifestyle and changes they will need to deal with 30,000 employees losing their
jobs in the community. Michael s position on the plant closures is that the moving of this plant to
Mexico for cheaper wages and labor will impact the American s Dream which was created using the
industrial revolution. Flint, Michigan is known to be the Car Capital in the United States because the
G.M plant reflects the town as a whole being built upon the revolution and on the automotive industry
that is strong in North America. Michael Moore main objective was to talk to Roger Smith and

Essay about Brothers and Sister Maude Comparison
Brothers and Sister Maude comparison
Matthew Davis
Comparison between the range of emotions felt by the speaker in Sister Maude and Brothers .
In Both Sister Maude and Brother a range of language devices are used in order to portray the
different emotions and the varied relationships the poem focus on.
Both poems use structural elements in order to portray a certain effect on the reader and to make them
feel certain emotions just based on the way the poems are structured. In Sister Maude the enjambment
between each of the lines emphasises the jealousy of Maude herself and the continuation of the
jealousy she undergoes for her sisters lover. The Rhyme scheme could also symbolise the continuation
of the poem as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However Brother has a much more simpler meaning towards the reader as it is the emotion felt by the
younger brother as his older brother has left him while the younger brother went back to get some bus
fare. The brother cowardly says to his younger brother you should go and ask mum for the bus fare as
the brother does not want to confront him. The older brother thinks he is old enough and mature
enough to take his younger brother out and be trusted; this turns out to be a complete juxtaposition to
the reality and juxtaposition to the title as true brother are not ones that leave you for a joke .
Guilt is a theme that occurs in both poems as the individual feels remorseful for what they ve done. In
Sister Maude the guilt is quite an obvious one; the guilt of Maude killing her sisters lover out of
jealousy. The hatred of Maude s sister is emphasised particularly in the last two stanzas and most
effectively in the last line; Bide you with death and sin. Even at the end of the poem Maudes sister has
not forgiven her and has no future plans of doing so due to the full stop appearance at the end. This
really cuts off the poem and the relationship between Maude and her sister as a sister relationship is
thought to be a loving and caring one which completely juxtaposes the entirety of the poem. The guilt
in Brothers is an obvious one

Immanuel Kant Vs Foucault
This piece will begin with the immortal words of Immanuel Kant: Reason does not work instinctively,
but requires trial, practice, and instruction in order to gradually progress from one level of insight to
another . The definition of reason according to Immanuel Kant is that it is a wave, a never ending
influence that is continually constructing and improving previous perceptions on knowledge. When
referring to the Enlightenment in the following piece, the time period that involved a massive
intellectual and rational movement that took Europe by storm in the 18th century is to be considered.

the 20th century French philosopher, titled An answer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By observing the Age of Enlightenment, we can see the influence of the added application of reason
that was used to free cities from the historically pressed minority ordeal. Countless scientific
breakthroughs occurred and many new ideas were formulated as a result of individuals making use of
their own reason without direction from someone else, all in a matter of a few years. The influence of
the Enlightenment thinking is shown by Foucault to have travelled much further than its time period;
influencing recent thought processes such as the modernist movement. Therefore, it can be said that
the Enlightenment can be considered the age of reason because, for the first time, numerous
individuals were able to reason for themselves by the loosening of the grip of minority and as a result,
the root of many modern concepts and ideas as well as modes of thinking are found in this precise

  • 2. Concert Review I attended this concert at CU Denver s King Center, Concert Hall. Although the architectural design and surrounding did not attest to much artistic creativity, the actual concert was better than my expectations. I did have lower expectations because it was presented by students instead of professional musicians or dancers as in my last concert review. The ensemble, a collaborative outcome from MSU Denver and other dance/cultural music groups from denver, was actually a mix of African and Indian/East Asian music and dance. The two teams alternated between each other giving the audience a great deal of contrast of movement and sound. My favorite were the second and fifth performances, African and Indian respectively. The second performance by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They presented a story of a goddess teasing a boy with a magical ball, then throwing it into a pond where a monster is asleep. The boy then awakens this monster trying to reach the ball. The story is meant to encourage people to face their fears and fight for what they want. I liked how they used the same movements when they were describing the story before starting their performance which they later used during the dance. For example, one of the dancers showed the same throwing movement which she later used in the performance. The dance was accompanied by an Indian chant like song over the speakers. It had the same simplistic nature as the African music discussed above which I again noticed that it put the focus on the dancers. They music and movement was much slower and calmer than the Africans, which makes sense when seen in light of the Eastern Asian spiritual philosophy of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diversity In America s Racial History Commencing with the straightforward, yet unethical act of introducing slaves, regardless of race, to America, racial tension wedged itself into America s atmosphere in the past, its conscience in the present, and legacy in the future. As America s racial history did not reflect the most pleasant aspects of the events and concepts in America s history, its racial history, however, profoundly reflected the racial relations we, as individuals and a collective society experience today, with present events regarding racial issues able to be traced back to racial conflicts in history such as the civil rights movements, racist laws designed to maintain the social hierarchy, and white supremacist groups that exist to this very day. Rommel Desert Fox Rommel aka Desert Fox The man best known as the Desert Fox was born 15 November 1891 to parents Erwin Rommel Senior and Helen von Lutz who named their son Erwin Johannes Eugene Rommel. Rommel s family was not a military one, his father like his father before him were teachers while his mother was the daughter of a high ranking government official. (Kurowski 2010) It is not known why a man with no military family connections would be led to join the army but I believe that he was influenced by the growing Nationalism in Germany at the time. He became an officer cadet in 1910 with the124th Wurttemberg Infantry Regiment where he was commissioned a Leutnant in 1911. After his commission he would go on to marry Lucia Mollin on 27 November 1916, they would later have a son whom they named Manfred Rommel. It is rumored that he had a daughter born in 1913 named Gertrud Stemmler from a relationship with Walburga Stemmer which was before his marriage. (History.com n.d.) Who could have guessed that 33 years later he would hold the rank of Generalfeldmarschall and be one of the most famous battlefield leaders of the Second World War. One can only wonder about the path that led a son of a teacher from the world of academia to the battlefields of World War I. • 7. Influence Of Christianity On Dantes Inferno In the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, there is an apparent use of an engaging number of literary devices throughout his entire story. This enriching quality in Dante s writing is a major part of why his stories became so influential in history, even in to today s society. His writing also had a major influence on the religion of Christianity, specifically the Catholic Church. At the same time, Christianity had major inspiration on his writing. His use of spiritual allusions is filled from the beginning to the end of the comedy, ranging from biblical to mythological references. The biblical influence in the Divine Comedy goes into the very structure of the story. This allegory is the journey of Dante and his guides toward the soul of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One could argue that the idea of hell alone could be a Christian ideal, but this idea belongs to many other religions and is far too broad. Dante describes the inferno as having nine different circles, each with a different level of punishment. The nine different circles do not pertain to Christian literature, however, Luke 12:47 48 does suggest there are different types of punishment. When Virgil and Dante are about to set their quest into the inferno, he tells Dante that he will see and hear the screams of people in their second death. This idea of a second death comes from Revelations 21.8 when it is explained that the the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone (Rev 21:8, KJV). These are the people that inhabit the inferno, derived from Christian judgement and approved by Dante s hell. There are also many biblical characters mentioned while Virgil explains Dante s upcoming quest. Dante mentions the successors of the Apostle Peter (Inferno Canto II 24), St. Paul and his venture into heaven (2 Corinthians 12.2 4, KJV), and of A gracious lady, who sits in heaven grieving, also known as the Virgin Mary (Inferno Canto II 93). Other characters are also addressed such as when Virgil and Dante are approaching the City of Dis when they see, more than a thousand fiendish angels (Inferno Canto VIII 83). These angels are the rebel angels that were cast out of heaven and hurled to the earth (Rev 12:9, KJV) along with Satan in Revelation 12.9. Towards the end of their journey in the inferno, far across the ice, Virgil and Dante see the massive figure of Lucifer. In the bible, Lucifer, also known as the light bearer, was the most beautiful of angels before he rebelled against god. He was then renamed Satan, even though he is referenced to as ... The surplus in inventory is a big disadvantage since; last year s products may not be in style this year in addition to the cost of storage. For all these reasons their cash flow is less in comparison with previous years causing that Luxor Cosmetics keeps increasing their bank loans, creating more debt, making it harder to pay out as 2011. In this particular situation the company could have either decrease its budgeted sales (productions) or increase its actual sales by improving more effective marketing strategy and research and development of its products in the markets. This way their inventory would decrease and their cash flow would increase. (Hopkins, 2009) Further, through effective marketing strategy Luxor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Life and Opinions of Tristam Shandy Essay The term identity is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as blah blah blah . This concept can be viewed as personal and individual to one s self, and is distinguished as an umbrella term to attributes such as; consciousness, heritage, name, appearance, and the soul. As Sterne s novel Tristram Shandy draws influence from John Locke s An Essay of Human Understanding, in which Locke discusses the origin of personal identity, the individual identity is evidently reflected within the text. The novel demonstrates Sterne s interpretation of the personal identity through the construction of each of his unique characterisations. Sterne can be seen to draw influence from the 18th Century philosopher, John Locke. Locke discusses the theory that individual identity is formed through consciousness and experience, and not upon the soul and body; this may show us wherein personal identity consists: not in the identity of substance, but, as I have said, in the identity of consciousness. (Locke). As Tristram believes the other misfortunate experiences within his childhood amount to his individual identity, this also suggests an origin of identity developed from his personal experiences. He believes that experiencing the many misfortunes such as his accidental naming and castration, disturbance as a homunculus and broken nose reshape his identity and that he is in a sense doomed to live a misfortunate life. In response to reading Tristram Shandy alongside the work of Locke, Heather Keenleyside states that such readings often understand Tristram Shandy as a novelization of Locke s much discussed distinction [...] On this view, Tristram Shandy follows Locke in arguing for the priority of personal identity over the body and its associates: the family and the species, birth and death. Your family is the first form of socialization that you experience as well as the religion that your family is a part of. Religion is another thing that helps to form who you are. It also got the children to interact with the other children and not just read about how something work. They are able to learn and see what goes on. Each institution influences everyone differently. My mother was the one who taught me how to act for an early age so that I knew what was acceptable and what was not. Founded in 1886 by Richard Sears, the company originally provided catalog sales of gold filled watches under R.W. Sears Watch Company, and partnered with Alvah Roebuck, a watchmaker from Indiana. Both introduced the company s mail order catalog of watches and jewelry services in 1893. Over the years, Sears has expanded its operations by launching major national long lasting and successful brands such as Kenmore, a line of appliances, Craftsman, a line of tools, land, garden equipment, and work wear, followed by DieHard, a brand of automotive battery. Sears has been a disruptive innovator in the retail industry for over 100 years; however, by early in the nineties, the company reached its peak in growth and started experiencing a downward decline in sales, which caused the company to start spinning off critical business investment portfolio. In 1995, Arthur C. Martinez became the Chairman of the Board and CEO. His vision was to keep Sears alive despite of the company s financial downfall. In 2005, Kmart acquired Sears forming a new corporation named Sears Holding Corporation as a result of the merge and the appointment of Edward Lampert as the new CEO of the company. • 18. Nuclear Weapons Make The World A Safer Place Debate Leadership Presentation October 21: Nuclear weapons make the world a safer place POSITION: NO In order to determine whether or not nuclear weapons create a safer world, one must consider what it means to be safe. According to Oxford Dictionaries, the word safe is defined as being protected from or not exposed to danger or risk, not likely to be harmed or lost. How can something so powerfully destructive be associated with safety? In addition to this, one may ask safe for who? Nuclear weapons pose a legitimate threat to many aspects of life, both immediate and long term. These intense consequences have been documented over time. The World Health Organization has stated that nuclear weapons can create the greatest human catastrophe, for which health services in the world could not alleviate the situation in any significant way. It is not possible to win a nuclear war. There is no effective outcome and certainly no safe outcome. When a confrontation takes place between alliances that possess nuclear weapons, there is the possibility of unintentional escalation created by a false warning or unauthorized launch. This almost took place in 1979 due to the fact that a training tape by NATO was mistaken as being real. Even an alliance with many nuclear weapons is not safe against attack. A successful first strike, if able to even target one hundred nuclear bursts, has the potential to abolish any nation s civilization. The first and perhaps most obvious threat is ... An example of this would be the long reign of the Dowager Empress Tz u hsi, in which there were hundreds of documents written about her life. These documents have been taken and used in the production of numerous books, especially among Western historians. It was these early historians who have established the widely accepted perspective that Tz u hsi hungered for power, abused it, and retained it using any means necessary. Then the Empress had them replaced by an heir who would be easier to control: her two year old nephew Kuang hsu (148). Sebald described the second emperor, Kaung hsu, as being fascinated by the mysteries of modern machines (152). Although this may seem like a minute detail, Kaung Hsu s love of modern machines is a representation of his favor for modernization. It was this interest in modernization that eventually led to a great disagreement with the Empress (152). Once it was clear that Tz u hsi would deny the nation of Kaung hsu s ideas of modernization, Kaung hsu attempted to wrest power to himself and was stopped by the Empress (152). The Empress then imprisoned Kaung hsu in a moated palace (152). Once the Emperor was confined, the Empress would be able to rule uncontested for as long as she lived and as long as the Emperor was powerless. • 24. Nonverbal Expectance Violation Theory As I researched various theories, the Nonverbal Expectancy Violation Theory stood out to me the most. Neuliep (2015) has described this theory as people holding expectancies about the appropriateness of the nonverbal behaviors of others. The Nonverbal Expectancy Theory (NEV) was formulated by Dr. Judee Burgoon. Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) states the basic tenet undergirding NEV theory holds that individuals have expectations of how things will be and how people will behave. Sidelinger and Bolen also states that expectancy refers to what an individual expects or predicts will happen in an interaction. When we make an assumption, we are partaking in expectancies. Burgoon (as cited by Sidelinger and Biolen, 2015) notes that what we expect in an interaction is based on three factors, context, relationship, and communicator characteristics. Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) believes that our expectancy can be determined by our environment. For an example, the way I communicate at the playground with my children is different than how I communicate at the grocery store. The expectancy of relationships is based on the connection we have with the person with whom we are interacting with. Finally, Sidelinger and Bolen (2015), states that communicator characteristics refer to the demographics (gender, age, race etc.) of the other in the interaction and additional characteristics such as the other s communication style. Additionally, the perception of how we view someone plays a role in how we expect them to react or interact. If I am playing with a Poodle, I expect it to be fun, playful, and bubbly. If I am playing with a Rottweiler, I expect it to be aggressive and assertive. While these are my expectancy of the dogs it could turn out to be the opposite of my assumption. There are two types of expectancies. Predictive and prescriptive. Offering a counterpoint to this perspective is nonverbal expectancy violations theory, which posits that violating social norms and expectations may sometimes be a superior strategy to conformity in achieving such communication outcomes as attraction, credibility, helping behavior, and persuasion, Burgoon and Aho,; Burgoon, Coker, and Coker, Burgoon and Hale; Burgoon and Jones; Burgoon, ...
