Toronto s Public Transit System Analysis
Toronto s public transit system is a mess, and it is about to get much worse. Congestion on Toronto
Transit Commission (TTC) buses and subways already stops many Toronto commuters from even
considering taking public transit, despite the gridlock on city roads. In 2013, an average of 900,000
daily commuters crowded onto overcrowded buses and subways, according to a TTC operating
statistic, further burdening a system that severely failed to keep up with Toronto s population growth.
(TTC Operating Budget, 2013) In ten years, the ridership on the Yonge University Spadina line
jumped from 583,000 people per work day to 711,000. (ibid). With the population of the GTA
projected to double, over the next 20 years, another million vehicles will join ... Show more content on

Compounding all this has been a refusal by both the Ontario government and the GTA s municipal
councils to impose congestion charges (user fees/service charges/toll booths/vehicle registration tax)
or other measures that would deliver sustained funding for transit expansion. Municipal shares of both
operating and capital subsidies for public transit in Canada come primarily from property taxes,
supplemented in some cases by special levies on gasoline sales, parking and hydro

The Role Of Fate In Oedipus And A Job
Meyer Fortes explains the two ways Greeks understood fate or moira in his work on Oedipus and a
Job . Fortes defines fate to its original meaning of lot and portion. He found that the first aspect was
impersonal and focused on the supreme over both gods and men (50). With this Fortes means that
actions are being determined by other things beyond the individual s control like gods. The impersonal
aspect could also be considered as the deterministic view of fate. The second aspect was individual,
being that each person has a particular apportionment of good and evil. . . which is decided at birth
(Fortes 50). Forte means to say that the individual s good and evil is given to them at birth. Yet, Fortes
speaks directly about Oedipus adding that, an individual s fate is in part determined by the fate of his
parents and in turn affects that of his offspring (50). Here Fortes is trying to say that there were so
many different things that took shape of Oedipus life and that of his offspring s. At the very beginning
Oedipus life took shape because of Laius and Jocasta, first they his life formed but later they tried to
take in away because of an oracle. As Oedipus life continued he would make decisions that would
ultimately lead him to his own demise. Finally the decisions that Oedipus made in his lifetime would
negatively affect his children. Kirkwood Gordon M. Kirkwood believes that there are three types of
oracles, but in his writing, Oracles and Dramaturgy, he only

Factors Affecting The Health And Social Care Services
The key factors that drive change in health and social care services are mostly known through SWOT
and PEST analysis. PEST is an acronym for political, economic, social and technology. PEST analysis
investigates the important factors that are affecting the industry and influencing the companies
operating in the health and social care. PEST analyses are external factors and when legal and
environment are added it becomes PESTLE analyses.
SWOT analyses at the other hand are internal factors. SWOT is an acronym for strength, weakness,
opportunity and threat. All the internal factors such as structure, skills, staff, systems, and shared
values need to be considered in the change. The above mentioned internal factors are really important
to the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust (RUH).
Political factors including factors like government policies and legislation drive change in the health
and social care sector. The political factors are known to have influence on the structure of the
organization, the professional practice, the distribution of services and the quality of services. An
example of a recent government policy on the NHS, is the introduction of charges to overseas patients
introduced by the British government led by the Tory party. Which makes it illegal for the NHS to see
overseas patients free of charge.
Economic factors include the consumer expenditure and disposal of income; unemployment and
recruitment, labor cost, and funding of health and social care

Literature has influenced society since its creation but history has also influenced literature since its
creation. In America, literature started with the Native Indians with their oral stories passed down one
generation at a time. The colonization of America from Europeans brought writing and new styles of
literature. But as literature evolved the purpose for it never changed. People wrote literature in
response to history to remember what they experienced and pass on how they grew from it.
During the early American time period, native Indians would create literature to record their new
discoveries or explanations for life s mysteries. The early American time period consisted of many

Samuel Clemens or Mark Twain was a famous realism writer. Clemens grew up in Missouri along the
Mississippi River. At the time, Missouri was a slave state and his uncle, who he spent most of his
summers with, owned many slaves. It was during this time Clemens was able to speak and gain an
understanding of what slaves went through. His feelings for slaves were made stronger when he
moved to New York for schooling, an abolitionist state ( A Life Lived in a Rapidly Changing World ).
He applied his experience into his writing, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The book describes
in detail the life and personality of a slave. He expresses his views he gained on his uncle s farm about
slaves through Huck Finn and how he [believed Jim] cared just as much for his people as white folks
does for their n because of how Huck had been able to observe Jim up close just as Clemens was able
to (Twain 117). The book takes place near his childhood home on the Mississippi river and he used his
personal experiences to provide a vivid recreation of the events and scenery he experienced. By
writing about the life he lived, he is able to offer a realistic look at what he experienced during his life.
The realism era brought a more real approach to literature and had a focus of depicting what really

Reactions To Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
In the novel In Cold Blood by Truman Capote the main characters Dick and Perry had some similar
reactions to the arrest, trial and sentencing as well as some differences. The two men s reactions are
different and in some ways the same depending on the situation they are in. Dick and Perry are in
many ways different and the same. During their arrests the two men have completely different
reactions to the prison experience. Perry Smith was the first man ever stayed in the ladies cell (252),
where he was able to make Mrs. Meier feel sorry for him, he does not try and rebel against the law.
Dick on the other hand acts out. He is still his same cold hearted self, trying to kill people and trying

Evil s Impact throughout British Literature British literature has had many influences throughout its
evolution, none more than the theme of evil. As far British literature traces, there has always been
tales good versus bad. Tales of hero s tragically fighting ungodly creatures, or monstrous humans all
have a common theme associated with them, evil. The three theories of evil that coincide with the
literature more than any other belong to Friedrich Nietzche, Jean Jaques Rousseau, and C Fred Alford.
Perspective, influence, and spreading plague are the three unique philosophies that present themselves
as evil throughout British Literature. The beginnings of the literature predates the above mentioned
philosophers. However, the all made assumptions the follow the literary works. Friedrich Nietzche s

Leading Through Change
Leading Through and Beyond Change | L7451 A01
There are many reasons that change can or must occur within and organization. The key will be in
understanding the organization and the prospective change. According to Mangundjaya (2015) there
are many variables that can influence the success of organizational change, such as the content of the
change, the process of the change, individual characteristics, leadership, external environment and
organizational context (p. 67). Organizational change has the potential to successfully align an
organization with its goals or completely derail any future success and progress. It is important that
the organization takes the proper steps to prepare for, implement, and evaluate change.
I believe that a key to leading through, and accepting, change can be effective communication.
Although everyone may not be able to accept change, they should make that decision with proper
information on hand. Fullan (2015) stated that Consistent communication during implementation is
essential to getting the collective clarity and energy necessary for success. Communication sticks best

The doctrine of seven sacraments is accepted in the Greek Orthodox church, although no supreme
authority has ever limited the sacraments to that number. The central sacrament is the Eucharist; the
others are baptism, normally by immersion; confirmation, which follows baptism immediately in the
form of anointment with chrism; penance; Holy Orders; marriage; and anointment of the sick. The
Greek Orthodox church admits married men to the priesthood. Bishops, however, are elected from
among celibate or widowed clergy.
The Greek Orthodox religion differs for many other religions in that they express prayers and worship
with pictures. This central function of religious images, called icons, received its full definition
following the end of the iconoclastic movement in Byzantium (843). The iconoclasts were looked
upon as sacrilegious in that they resemble idols, which were prohibited in the old testament . quot; The
Orthodox theologians, on the other hand, based their arguments on the specifically Christian doctrine
of the incarnation: God is indeed invisible and indescribable in his essence, but when the Son of God
became man, he voluntarily assumed all the characteristics of created nature, including describability
quot;(Meyendorff 21).
Although there are many differences between the Eastern and Western Churches, there is always the
possibility of the two

The Burgess Shale By Charles D. Walcott
Ashley Goosic
The Burgess Shale
The Burgess Shale, located in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, was discovered by Charles D.
Walcott in 1909. Walcott spent 18 years collecting and classifying the fossils located at this site. The
Shale was formed about 530 million years ago, in the Cambrian Period. Most Cambrian rocks contain
fossils of trilobite shells, cap shaped or flattened shells, and brachiopods (Whittington, 1985). When
Walcott went looking for North American Cambrian fossils in August of 1909, he ended up in the
Canadian Rocky Mountains. He and his wife found a loose block in the ridge they were searching
near, split it open, and found what they later classified the lace crab (Briggs, 1994). Walcott knew
right away what they had discovered was something different the soft parts of the crab, such as the
limbs, were preserved. During the next season, Walcott and his sons came back to the Shale, searching
the slopes along the trail where they had discovered the loose block to find fossil layers. Luckily for
them, the Shale rock layers were almost horizontal, and for thirty days a team quarried the ridge. The
next year, they spent even longer quarrying. The last year spent quarrying the rocks was in 1917, when
Walcott was 67 (Briggs, 1994). The rocks were removed from the ridge using picks, chisels, long iron
bars, and small explosives. All the quarrying done by Walcott and his crew resulted in over sixty five
thousand fossils, now stored in the

Essay about Negative Music and the Effects on Human Behavior
I have chosen to write about negative music and its effect on human behavior. I will trace the history
of this type of music and discuss some studies which point out effects of listening to it.
What is negative music? Negative music is music that has a negative effect. One form of negative
music is music that is used to express or to stimulate negative emotions. A Viennese classical
composer named Arnold Schonberg was the first person to openly create negative music early in the
twentieth century. His music was rejected by European concert attendees of the time and sometimes
caused near riots. Based on discords, Schoenberg s music caused listeners to feel uncomfortable and
irritated. However, he became the pivotal composer of the early ... Show more content on

The first hard rock and heavy metal music was produced by the rock group called Blue Cheer
somewhere around 1967. Their music was angry and had a noticeably heavy beat.. At this time, the
music of the Rolling Stones, too, became harder and angry, with a negative accent. Many other groups
sprang up during this period. In truth, hard drugs, mixed with psychedelics were having an effect. The
world was witnessing a new phenomenon: musical groups of young men opening doors to the psychic
world through the use of drugs were using electrified instruments to bring in a new music that was
harmful to the human psyche, destructive, and angry (2).
The turning point for the new music came when the group Led Zeppelin was formed. As the book
Hammer of the Gods points out, the members of this group were constantly high on every kind of drug
imaginable. When they toured, they vandalized hotel rooms, throwing TV sets and furniture into the
streets. Very young girls were tied up and sodomized, group members taking turns, and a
photographer from Life magazine, assigned to photograph Led Zeppelin as they toured, was nearly
raped by band members in a hotel room. Yet Led Zeppelin became the most popular group of its time.
In fact, a whole generation was raised on its music. Throughout the 1970s, the music of Led Zeppelin
was the anthem of American high school kids.
For many people raised during this period, demeaning the music of Led Zeppelin is a desecration of a

Retail Possums Research Paper
The use of 1080 poison to control possums within New Zealand has been quite a big biological issue
over the years. The bushtail possums were introduced to New Zealand in 1837 for the fur trade by
Australia. This poison is commonly used in New Zealand to target the control of the possum
population as well as other invasive rodents, as these pest eat vulnerable native animals such as, birds,
lizards and insects, but this poison is highly toxic for deer, and dogs. Minimizing the number of
possums mean that the agriculture and forestry to will be able to thrive more. Possums themselves don

Example Of Annexation
1. Annexation legally adding land area to a city in the United States.
Example: During the nineteenth century, the city of Chicago grew at an expedite rate due to the
annexation of peripheral land. In 1837, for example, Chicago grew from a mere 10 square miles to
190 square miles in 1900. As time continued, specifically during the twentieth century, little land was
annexed; the major annexation was on the northwest side for O Hare Airport. In today s day, cities are
less prone to annex peripheral land. This is due to the fact that residents prefer to organize their own
services rather than pay city taxes to them. In the past, some of the peripheral jurisdictions were small,
isolated towns. The towns have a traditions of independent local governed ... Show more content on

Reflective Beliefs Of AquinasTeaching On The Eucharist
Aquinas teaching on the Eucharist has offered many new and distinctive insights to me. One of these
insights is when Aquinas asks the question whether one should distinguish the two ways of eating
Christ s body. The two ways are spiritually and sacramentally. His opponents argue there is no need to
and I thought the same as well, because eating the bread and drinking the wine would encompass both.
However, after reading Aquinas I answer , it became clear to me that there is a twofold division
between the sacrament itself and the effect of it. An example my professor gave is if a mouse ate some
bread and wine. The mouse is not mindful and because of that, it only participated in the physical
aspect of the Eucharist, but not with its effect. You must be mindful to appreciate the symbols of bread
and wine or there will be more harm than good if you are not attentive of what God is doing. A quote
from Aquinas that helped me understand this better is when he says, but the sacramental eating that
does not secure the effect is contrasted with spiritual eating, just as the imperfect, which does not
attain perfection of its species, is contrasted with the perfect (ST 3.80.1). What he means by this is that
just by merely participating in the sacrament alone without the effect is like doing something in an
imperfect way. The perfect way of doing this is by complete eating, which is receiving both the visible
and invisible effects. Aquinas also offers some strong arguments against

Upholding Jocasta as the Tragic Hero
What makes a tragic hero? Aristotle lays down groundwork of a tragic hero as being essentially good.
They are neither villain nor saint because they have flaws. Several elememts are nevcesary to have a
tragic hero, they are the tragic flaw, the reversal, recognition, and hubris. These generally make up the
story of the tragic hero, and in the case of Jocasta, the wife and mother of Oedipus in Sophocles
Oedipus the King, she posses all three. Yet she is not truly considered a tragic hero, but a tragic
character by many. However seeing as it is the character of Jocasta that sets the story in motion, and

Because she thinks that she and Laius were able to avoid the prophecy, she gives little credence to
what the oracle says (Sophocles 1.1. 784 796). She respects the gods, but not the oracles. She tries to
lead Oedipus to adopt this standpoint as well, telling him of the prophecy told to Laius and herself,
and how that prophecy did not come to pass. After telling Oedipus that he need not worry about the
words of a prophet she tells him, Whatever the god needs and seeks he ll bring to light himself, with
ease. (Sophocles line 799 800). Later she goes to Apollo s temple and asks for his guidance, saying
that they are in the grip of fear, beseeching his help for Oedipus and saying, I come with prayers and
offerings...I beg you, cleanse us, set us free of defilement! (Sophocles line 1009 1010). She does not
yet realize that the defilement cannot be cleansed.
Hubris
Her only flaw is disregard for the prophets; she never disregards the gods themselves. Her disbelief in
them is sound, and she maintains her belief in the gods. In this way it is hubris, her overwhelming
pride or belief that she thwarted the earlier prophecy. It is still this flaw which is a part of her tragic
downfall.
The Reversal
Peripetia, or the reversal, is another element of the tragic hero. Such as when an action backfires on
the person, much the way that abandoning Oedipus

Saintsbury states that there is no attempt at an impression of growing horror culminating in the
horrible death of Madame de Villefort and her child. The interest is frittered away in endless details
and episodes (Saintsbury 1). I agree that Dumas was far too generous in his descriptions and often
times these descriptions eliminated all sort of mystery or suspense in certain events. In fact, many of
the events that were supposed to be suspenseful were drowned out by massive amounts of words to
describe one scene. The depiction of Villefort s apartment was written as, in order to call Edouard, he
had to awaken the echoes of that apartment transformed into a coffin; to speak was to violate the
silence of the tomb (Dumas 483). the description of the apartment does provide a sense of creepiness,
but the sheer circumlocution takes away from the overall feeling of terror and suspense. However,
even without suspense, the novel still maintained my interest as vivid images of the scenes were still
available rather than being replaced with something vague. Saintsbury suggests that the dangerous
method of introducing long recitals by various characters in order to help on the movement and join
the intrigue is unscrupulously resorted to [in the novel] (Saintsbury 1). The perfect example is when

Documents indicate that Ghiberti and his stepfather, Bartolo di Michele, signed the contract together.
The contract stated that Ghiberti must complete three panels a year. However after several years only
four panels were finished, this was due to the number of commissions Ghiberti was working on at one
time. Contracts required that the artist work on one piece of art at a time, Ghiberti disregarded what
the contract stated, working on numerous pieces at any given time. This prompted the Calimala guild
to enforce a new contract that caused Ghiberti to be the sole contractor and held him to stricter terms.
The Annunciation, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, Baptism of Christ, Agony in the Garden, were

Etihad Airways on its fleet determined to Abu Dhabi Australia route, consists of, sevenA340 600
Airbus with 292 passenger capacity, and V Australia the international carrier of Virgin Blue with its
three Boeing 777 300ER, considering the total costs for the flight, as the homogenous fleet will have
lower operating costs that would have effect on the fare price. For that reason, Etihad has to fill most
of the seats on the plane in sense of covering the operational costs. Depending in two variables: Load
factor the plane seating capacity that is actually sold, whereas, it was 74% for this route in the last
year, and Yields the revenue obtained for flying one passenger over one kilometer, while it increased
by 20.1% year on year. Hence, using the load factor by Etihad as an indicator by its marketing
department supporting its pricing strategy, hence the high load factor over (85%) is considered as a
sign for Etihad to focus on low yields. For instance, by offering lower prices for this route, as the
number of seats sold goes up depending on the effectiveness of its promotion activities the fare goes
down. However, it has to cover up the operational cost either by high or low fare prices for its
profitability. Moreover, usually it happens that two passengers

Analyse the Different Ways in Which Countries Can Attempt...
Firstly, the economic problem is split into three questions, which are: what to produce? How to
produce? Who to produce for? These three questions can also be summed up as scarcity which is the
inadequate amount of resources available. Consumers have wants which are unlimited; they would
always want more, but due to the economic problem, scarcity, not everyone will get there want
fulfilled, therefore causing a problem. Different countries can attempt to overcome the economic
problem in several ways; which is to apply a different economy system to their country. Due to
scarcity consumers will now have to make a choice of what they want, by sacrificing the next best
alternative when making a decision, this is known as opportunity cost. ... Show more content on

The Pursuit Of Freedom And Justice There Was A Hurricane
In the Pursuit of Freedom and Justice there was a Hurricane
In times of national discontent and social injustice, music is one of the leading forms of rebellion and
storytelling. In 1975, Bob Dylan contributed to this rebellious storytelling narrative by creating
Hurricane a song about the wrongful imprisonment of middleweight fighter Rubin Hurricane Carter.
There is a common idea that the issues we face do not have the same magnitude the issues our
predecessors faced. By assuming this idea, the implications of similar issues are ignored. The
importance of this comparison relies on the magnitude of their influence. Their songs enlightened a
variety of people about the daily dealings of corruption within our nation and enforced the need to
fight for one another when the system proved treat the members of the society unfairly. The song
Freedom by Beyoncé Knowles Carter created in 2016 discusses current struggles that African
Americans are facing by being reduced to stereotypes that prevent unity and fairness and even
includes a verse performed by rapper Kendrick Lamar specifying instances of racial tension that have
affected him. Though both songs are written about wrongful imprisonment the purpose of their songs,
the intended audience, and the use of expression differ. The contrast between the songs only elevate
the notion that no two issues are exactly alike. After each song was created the awareness of wrongful
imprisonment has accounted to the fight for justice

Poetry Should Ride The Bus Essay
Poetry is often dissected until there is nothing left but a tired meaning or beaten down theme left. The
beauty is often lost on the incessant search for a deeper meaning and the flow of the lines and stanzas
is often forgotten in the intrusive prodding to find something more. Both poems, Introduction to
Poetry and Poetry Should Ride the Bus, exemplify this opinion on the study of poetry, and challenge
the traditional views of poetry in the sense that poetry is not there to be a source of deeper meaning.
Rather, it is there to fill the reader with a sense of something more and be a literary treasure written to
beautify the mind and unearth something in the reader. I want them to water ski across the surface of a

Forman theorizes that poetry is not words on a page waiting to be begrudgingly divulged, but is an art

The Prelude Diction
And growing still in stature the grim shape towered up between me and the stars... (Lines 25 26). This
is a line used in Williams Wordsworth s autobiographical poem The Prelude capturing the reader with
his mystical charm of this unknown entity. In the poem, Wordsworth uses his experiences of this
journey to the summit of a craggy ridge to talk about the newfound boat he has and his special
connection to her being greater than the one he owned previously. (Line 14). Throughout the poem,
Wordsworth incorporates devices such as diction, imagery, and tone because they best fit in with the
story he is trying to portray to the reader. The term diction is generally described as an author s use of
word choice. Why the person decided to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, if I were to say, as I walked in the party, noticing the disco ball, I saw it spin like a spinning

experiences in his journey to the summit o of a craggy ridge . (Line 14). One example where
Wordsworth uses imagery is when he talks about his venture into the quiet, foggy, spooky lake. He
says, ...lustily I dipped my oars into the silent lake, and, as I rose upon the stroke, my boat went
heaving through the water like a swan. (Lines 17 20). When I read these three lines, I was thinking of
the scene when SpongeBob and Patrick were in a boat riding through a spooky forest it was also very
foggy and quiet. Furthermore, you have tone, which is the way the speaker feels when they are
writing. In The Prelude , the tone starts as calm and mellow as he discovers this new boat then takes it
out to sea leaving his boat behind. Towards the ending of the poem, however, the tone changes to
something that is sad and melancholy. After Wordsworth had seen some kind of unknown entity
behind him, he hurried back to the willow tree then afterward returning home. For a few nights after
he had came in counter with this entity he persistently kept having

Therefore, engineers and future engineers should be responsible for their actions so they can make this
place a safe place to live.
1.1 Background Over the years there many engineering disasters occurred in the planet. An American
owned Spanish made, Amoco Cadiz oil tanker, crashed off the rocky coast of Brittany, France on the
morning of March 16th, 1978 (Neil Schlager, 2008). When the tanker hits the rocks it poured around
220,000 tons of crude oil in to the beaches and to the surroundings, making the worst oil tanker
disaster in the planet at that time (Neil Schlager, 2008). It still stands the fifth largest worst oil spill
disaster in the world (Neil Schlager, 2008). At the beginning of the investigation it revealed that faulty
design and very poor careless maintenance of the steering system was the main cause of the disaster
(Neil Schlager, 2008). In the early February of 1976 the tanker Amoco Cadiz is loaded with 121,160
tons of Light crude oil from Ras Tanara, Saudi Arabia and several days after it was loaded with 98,640
tons of Light crude oil at Kharg Island, Iran (Neil Schlager, 2008). The vessel is almost nearing the six

the Middle East and Asia, circa 3,000 BCE, showed great success in the areas of government, science
and technology, and writing. The cities made advancements in government and the security of their
lands. For example, the Amorites rebuilt the walls of Babylon with burnt brick to keep themselves safe
from intruders (doc 3). Another instance of the advancement of government practices in ancient times
was in the Mauryan Empire under Ashoka s rule (doc 9). Ashoka had rock edicts inscribed to proclaim

If, for example, money must be converted to another currency to make a certain investment, any

The world of business has it that it is almost impossible for a unified entity or corporation to

about two paragraphs, create an art critique for this piece of art. a. A piece of art shown in the lesson is
that of a worshipper which dates back to 2750 2660 BCE. This sculpture shows the differences of art
in Egyptian culture and Greek culture, because the worshipper is just human which is shown in full

  • 2. Toronto s Public Transit System Analysis Toronto s public transit system is a mess, and it is about to get much worse. Congestion on Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) buses and subways already stops many Toronto commuters from even considering taking public transit, despite the gridlock on city roads. In 2013, an average of 900,000 daily commuters crowded onto overcrowded buses and subways, according to a TTC operating statistic, further burdening a system that severely failed to keep up with Toronto s population growth. (TTC Operating Budget, 2013) In ten years, the ridership on the Yonge University Spadina line jumped from 583,000 people per work day to 711,000. (ibid). With the population of the GTA projected to double, over the next 20 years, another million vehicles will join ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The Role Of Fate In Oedipus And A Job Meyer Fortes explains the two ways Greeks understood fate or moira in his work on Oedipus and a Job . Fortes defines fate to its original meaning of lot and portion. He found that the first aspect was impersonal and focused on the supreme over both gods and men (50). With this Fortes means that actions are being determined by other things beyond the individual s control like gods. The impersonal aspect could also be considered as the deterministic view of fate. The second aspect was individual, being that each person has a particular apportionment of good and evil. . . which is decided at birth (Fortes 50). Forte means to say that the individual s good and evil is given to them at birth. Yet, Fortes speaks directly about Oedipus adding that, an individual s fate is in part determined by the fate of his parents and in turn affects that of his offspring (50). Here Fortes is trying to say that there were so many different things that took shape of Oedipus life and that of his offspring s. At the very beginning Oedipus life took shape because of Laius and Jocasta, first they his life formed but later they tried to take in away because of an oracle. As Oedipus life continued he would make decisions that would ultimately lead him to his own demise. Finally the decisions that Oedipus made in his lifetime would negatively affect his children. Kirkwood Gordon M. Kirkwood believes that there are three types of oracles, but in his writing, Oracles and Dramaturgy, he only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Factors Affecting The Health And Social Care Services The key factors that drive change in health and social care services are mostly known through SWOT and PEST analysis. PEST is an acronym for political, economic, social and technology. PEST analysis investigates the important factors that are affecting the industry and influencing the companies operating in the health and social care. PEST analyses are external factors and when legal and environment are added it becomes PESTLE analyses. SWOT analyses at the other hand are internal factors. SWOT is an acronym for strength, weakness, opportunity and threat. All the internal factors such as structure, skills, staff, systems, and shared values need to be considered in the change. The above mentioned internal factors are really important to the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust (RUH). Political factors including factors like government policies and legislation drive change in the health and social care sector. The political factors are known to have influence on the structure of the organization, the professional practice, the distribution of services and the quality of services. An example of a recent government policy on the NHS, is the introduction of charges to overseas patients introduced by the British government led by the Tory party. Which makes it illegal for the NHS to see overseas patients free of charge. Economic factors include the consumer expenditure and disposal of income; unemployment and recruitment, labor cost, and funding of health and social care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In America, literature started with the Native Indians with their oral stories passed down one generation at a time. The colonization of America from Europeans brought writing and new styles of literature. But as literature evolved the purpose for it never changed. People wrote literature in response to history to remember what they experienced and pass on how they grew from it. His feelings for slaves were made stronger when he moved to New York for schooling, an abolitionist state ( A Life Lived in a Rapidly Changing World ). He applied his experience into his writing, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The book describes in detail the life and personality of a slave. He expresses his views he gained on his uncle s farm about slaves through Huck Finn and how he [believed Jim] cared just as much for his people as white folks does for their n because of how Huck had been able to observe Jim up close just as Clemens was able to (Twain 117). The book takes place near his childhood home on the Mississippi river and he used his personal experiences to provide a vivid recreation of the events and scenery he experienced. • 9. Leading Through Change Leading Through and Beyond Change | L7451 A01 There are many reasons that change can or must occur within and organization. The key will be in understanding the organization and the prospective change. According to Mangundjaya (2015) there are many variables that can influence the success of organizational change, such as the content of the change, the process of the change, individual characteristics, leadership, external environment and organizational context (p. 67). Organizational change has the potential to successfully align an organization with its goals or completely derail any future success and progress. It is important that the organization takes the proper steps to prepare for, implement, and evaluate change. I believe that a key to leading through, and accepting, change can be effective communication. Although everyone may not be able to accept change, they should make that decision with proper information on hand. Fullan (2015) stated that Consistent communication during implementation is essential to getting the collective clarity and energy necessary for success. The doctrine of seven sacraments is accepted in the Greek Orthodox church, although no supreme authority has ever limited the sacraments to that number. The central sacrament is the Eucharist; the others are baptism, normally by immersion; confirmation, which follows baptism immediately in the form of anointment with chrism; penance; Holy Orders; marriage; and anointment of the sick. The Greek Orthodox church admits married men to the priesthood. Bishops, however, are elected from among celibate or widowed clergy. The Greek Orthodox religion differs for many other religions in that they express prayers and worship with pictures. This central function of religious images, called icons, received its full definition following the end of the iconoclastic movement in Byzantium (843). The iconoclasts were looked upon as sacrilegious in that they resemble idols, which were prohibited in the old testament . quot; The Orthodox theologians, on the other hand, based their arguments on the specifically Christian doctrine of the incarnation: God is indeed invisible and indescribable in his essence, but when the Son of God became man, he voluntarily assumed all the characteristics of created nature, including describability quot;(Meyendorff 21). • 11. The Burgess Shale By Charles D. Walcott Ashley Goosic The Burgess Shale The Burgess Shale, located in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, was discovered by Charles D. Walcott in 1909. Walcott spent 18 years collecting and classifying the fossils located at this site. The Shale was formed about 530 million years ago, in the Cambrian Period. Most Cambrian rocks contain fossils of trilobite shells, cap shaped or flattened shells, and brachiopods (Whittington, 1985). When Walcott went looking for North American Cambrian fossils in August of 1909, he ended up in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. He and his wife found a loose block in the ridge they were searching near, split it open, and found what they later classified the lace crab (Briggs, 1994). Walcott knew right away what they had discovered was something different the soft parts of the crab, such as the limbs, were preserved. During the next season, Walcott and his sons came back to the Shale, searching the slopes along the trail where they had discovered the loose block to find fossil layers. Luckily for them, the Shale rock layers were almost horizontal, and for thirty days a team quarried the ridge. The next year, they spent even longer quarrying. The last year spent quarrying the rocks was in 1917, when Walcott was 67 (Briggs, 1994). The rocks were removed from the ridge using picks, chisels, long iron bars, and small explosives. All the quarrying done by Walcott and his crew resulted in over sixty five thousand fossils, now stored in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Viennese classical composer named Arnold Schonberg was the first person to openly create negative music early in the twentieth century. The world was witnessing a new phenomenon: musical groups of young men opening doors to the psychic world through the use of drugs were using electrified instruments to bring in a new music that was harmful to the human psyche, destructive, and angry (2). The turning point for the new music came when the group Led Zeppelin was formed. As the book Hammer of the Gods points out, the members of this group were constantly high on every kind of drug imaginable. When they toured, they vandalized hotel rooms, throwing TV sets and furniture into the streets. Very young girls were tied up and sodomized, group members taking turns, and a photographer from Life magazine, assigned to photograph Led Zeppelin as they toured, was nearly raped by band members in a hotel room. Yet Led Zeppelin became the most popular group of its time. In fact, a whole generation was raised on its music. Throughout the 1970s, the music of Led Zeppelin was the anthem of American high school kids. • 13. Retail Possums Research Paper The use of 1080 poison to control possums within New Zealand has been quite a big biological issue over the years. The bushtail possums were introduced to New Zealand in 1837 for the fur trade by Australia. This poison is commonly used in New Zealand to target the control of the possum population as well as other invasive rodents, as these pest eat vulnerable native animals such as, birds, lizards and insects, but this poison is highly toxic for deer, and dogs. Minimizing the number of possums mean that the agriculture and forestry to will be able to thrive more. Possums themselves don t have any predators to control their population, as they can live in any New Zealand condition, which has now caused human involvement to help control the issue. • 15. Reflective Beliefs Of AquinasTeaching On The Eucharist Aquinas teaching on the Eucharist has offered many new and distinctive insights to me. One of these insights is when Aquinas asks the question whether one should distinguish the two ways of eating Christ s body. The two ways are spiritually and sacramentally. His opponents argue there is no need to and I thought the same as well, because eating the bread and drinking the wine would encompass both. However, after reading Aquinas I answer , it became clear to me that there is a twofold division between the sacrament itself and the effect of it. An example my professor gave is if a mouse ate some bread and wine. The mouse is not mindful and because of that, it only participated in the physical aspect of the Eucharist, but not with its effect. You must be mindful to appreciate the symbols of bread and wine or there will be more harm than good if you are not attentive of what God is doing. A quote from Aquinas that helped me understand this better is when he says, but the sacramental eating that does not secure the effect is contrasted with spiritual eating, just as the imperfect, which does not attain perfection of its species, is contrasted with the perfect (ST 3.80.1). What he means by this is that just by merely participating in the sacrament alone without the effect is like doing something in an imperfect way. The perfect way of doing this is by complete eating, which is receiving both the visible and invisible effects. Aquinas also offers some strong arguments against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aristotle lays down groundwork of a tragic hero as being essentially good. They are neither villain nor saint because they have flaws. Several elememts are nevcesary to have a tragic hero, they are the tragic flaw, the reversal, recognition, and hubris. These generally make up the story of the tragic hero, and in the case of Jocasta, the wife and mother of Oedipus in Sophocles Oedipus the King, she posses all three. She respects the gods, but not the oracles. She tries to lead Oedipus to adopt this standpoint as well, telling him of the prophecy told to Laius and herself, and how that prophecy did not come to pass. After telling Oedipus that he need not worry about the words of a prophet she tells him, Whatever the god needs and seeks he ll bring to light himself, with ease. (Sophocles line 799 800). Later she goes to Apollo s temple and asks for his guidance, saying that they are in the grip of fear, beseeching his help for Oedipus and saying, I come with prayers and offerings...I beg you, cleanse us, set us free of defilement! Her disbelief in them is sound, and she maintains her belief in the gods. In this way it is hubris, her overwhelming pride or belief that she thwarted the earlier prophecy. It is still this flaw which is a part of her tragic downfall. The Reversal Peripetia, or the reversal, is another element of the tragic hero. The interest is frittered away in endless details and episodes (Saintsbury 1). I agree that Dumas was far too generous in his descriptions and often times these descriptions eliminated all sort of mystery or suspense in certain events. In fact, many of the events that were supposed to be suspenseful were drowned out by massive amounts of words to describe one scene. The depiction of Villefort s apartment was written as, in order to call Edouard, he had to awaken the echoes of that apartment transformed into a coffin; to speak was to violate the silence of the tomb (Dumas 483). the description of the apartment does provide a sense of creepiness, but the sheer circumlocution takes away from the overall feeling of terror and suspense. However, even without suspense, the novel still maintained my interest as vivid images of the scenes were still available rather than being replaced with something vague.
