Essay Questions For In Cold Blood
1. The title In Cold Blood signifies someone/something being aggressively murdered. It could also
mean the person who committed the killing is remorseless and suffers from megalomania,
kleptomania, or any mental disorder. The connotations of blood consists of injury, accident, or danger.
The connotations of cold consists of remorseless, belligerence, or gruesomeness. Judging from the
title, the book delves into a story about a family that was grossly liquidated by an individual envied by
the wealth of this kin.
2. Murder is considered evil in many parts of the world but it has its exceptions. One view is that
murder is a necessity to protect herself/himself for the collective good. It s either you or the world is a

Dewey confronted a series of photographs, and after hours of extensively examining he compared it
to, How many animals can you find in this picture (Capote, 83). At last, he discovered that one of the
photographs, contained diamond patterned soles, was not perceptible to the naked eye but rather by
the glare of a flashbulb. This breakthrough offered Dewey and his detectives a slim prospect to
protract the veracity of this investigation.
2. Susan Kidwell found the appearance of the victims most disturbing, the head of each was... encased
in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size of an ordinary blown up balloon and the cotton... twinkled
like christmas tree snow (Capote, 95). Susan could not handle seeing the kin in coffins, especially

A Research Carried Out By Geert Hofstede And His...
This report aims to introduce the research carried out by Geert Hofstede and his colleagues,
identifying study procedures and overall outcomes. It will also examine each of the seven dimensions
individually and clearly detect primary comparisons and contrasts of this model. Key implications of
each dimension will also be studied in relation to management of Multinational enterprises,
introducing appropriate examples throughout.
Geert Hofstede defines national culture as the collective programming of the mind distinguishing the
members of one group or category of people from others (Hofstede, 2012). Hofstede s findings were
influenced by his former occupation as an IBM employee, inspiring his most significant work in
advancing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The penultimate research of national culture referring to the study of value dimensions was conducted
by Michael Harris Bond. Bond carried out further exploration among a group of students by leading a
survey developed by Chinese professors, undertaken in 23 countries. This factor was called long term
orientation, which then resolved in becoming the fifth cultural dimension.
By 2010 the model was completed after a final two more dimensions were added, named pragmatism
and indulgence. The research carried out was conducted by Michael Minkov, who studied modern
World Values Survey data taken from population samples nationally. Author Robert R.McCrae
supports Hofstede s dimensions by believing that they represent a well validated operationalization of
differences between cultures as manifested in dominant value systems (McCrae, 2004). However, as
studied on the Geert Hofstede website, only 6 dimensions are needed and necessary in defining culture
attributes, resulting in pragmatism being dropped because of overlapping of meanings with long term
orientation.
Firstly, Hofstede s interpretation of power distance in comparing cultures is that it expresses the
amount by which a smaller amount of authoritative members of a civilisation agree and assume that
power in a culture is dispersed unequally.

Newell And Rubbermaid Case Study
At first glance, the merger of Newell and Rubbermaid seems very attractive. Newell had a proven
track record of acquiring companies and turning them around to deliver shareholder value. Since the
1960s, Newell had made over 35 strategic acquisitions of commodity producing manufacturing firms
with low operating margins. Acquisitions usually added to shelf space, increase supplier power and
rounded out Newell s good, better, best multiproduct offering. Also, acquired companies were
typically market leaders.
Rubbermaid was one of the most recognized brands in the world, known for its innovative products
and marketing. It also seemed that there was potential for synergies, especially if one looked at the
customer base and distribution channels of the two firms. But the $5B acquisition of Rubbermaid
would be their largest till date, and question to ask would be can Newell turn the company around to
ensure higher margins and ROI within a targeted period of time?
We can analyse the various synergies that could be achieved from this merger using the Eccles Lane
Wilson Framework in Exhibit 1.
No doubt the aim of the acquisition would be to Newellize Rubbermaid If we were to assume that
Newell would expect to make major changes in the first two years to achieve cost savings and increase
revenues, we would have to assume that Newell would achieve synergies across cost and revenues
right from the get go. Given that revenues of $2.4B and net income of $142M, and administrative

The Cardiovascular System Responses During Submaximal...
INTRODUCTION
Information on cardiovascular differences between the sexes is necessary for allied health
professionals to best adapt rehabilitation exercises for the patients with cardiovascular diseases
(CVD). The cardiovascular system has to adjust in response to metabolic demands of working muscles
during exercise. Gender related differences on how the body meets the increased demands while still
maintaining homeostatic arterial blood pressure has been widely researched (CITE). There is some
support that vaso regulation differences are due to female sex hormones (estrogen, in particular
estradiol), and less sympathetic nervous system influence when compared to males (CITE).
Additionally, body composition (higher muscle mass in males) and substrate utilisation (more lipid
substrate utilisation in females) have been found to have significant effects on the cardiovascular
system responses during submaximal exercise (CITE). Upper body exercise has been found to create
more stress on the cardiovascular system compared to lower body exercise (CITE). The primary
causes of death in the Australian population are directly or indirectly related to cardiovascular diseases
(CVD) (CITE). Although, men are at greater risk for developing CVD, women have been found to
have a higher morbidity rate post surgery (CITE). Additionally, the presentation of symptoms for
female differs to that of their male counterparts (CITE). Thus, further investigation to better
understand the differences

Fast forward to 2000 BC, the horse, camel and other animals were introduced as a means of

animals. Journey s that took months now became weeks. Around that period of time, the Egyptians
were rumored to have made the first boat. Slowly Boats and ships became an even more efficient way
of transportation. Fast forward to the 1800 s, trains were introduced. Now, people could move from
place to place faster through land. Little by little, journey s that took weeks can now be reached in
days. Fast forward to the late 1800 s, the automobile was introduced. People could now use a car as
means of transportation and can get to nearby place even faster. Journey s took a few days and were
not as much of hustle. Fast forward to the early 1900 s, the plane was introduced. Not everyone was
on board at the time thinking that the risks of dying were just unbearable. It turns out it was the fastest
way of transportation; journey s that took days, now could take hours. What does this show us? What
does this tell us? There must come a time when you have to accept a newer more efficient way of
doing something and move on from the past. Does this mean that people have stopped using horses as
a means of transportation? No, but you don t see a lawyer arriving to a courtroom on a horse. Times
have changed. People are becoming heavily dependent on technology

Catching A Sport
Sports have always been competitive by nature with each one having a vast number of viewers and
fans that will defend their sport with all their might and slander or trash talk on all the other sports.
The word sport is generally associated with athletics such as football but when it comes to a non
athletic then it becomes a problem for people to define it as a sport. Sport comes from Old French
desport meaning leisure . Adding to this idea, Sport Accord, the international committee of sports,
defines a sport by having an element of competition, provide no harm to animals, not rely on
equipment from a single supplier, and not rely on any luck . This is why everyone thinks of sports as
football, basketball, soccer, etc., but those are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catching is an essential skill in football so in order to master the skill an individual must first learn
how to catch and throw. Learning how to perform the skill at a faster rate is the next step after
knowing how to perform the skill. After you learn how to throw the ball then you can start practicing
with the speed of the throw. When you have learned the skill and have practiced to perform it well
then you practice to perform it consistently by being fatigued, under stress, or under pressure. Overall
practicing a skill takes a tremendous amount of time and effort that separates the level between all the
competitors in a sport. Skills don t necessarily have to be physical they can be related to mental
processes too. For example, in chess where one must try and predict and read their opponents next
possible move, it requires the use of the mental state to be able to counter the opponent s moves.
Every sport whether physical or mental contains a multitude of skills that must be mastered by the
player. This is what makes every sport extremely tough to compete in due to the tremendous amount
of practice that must be done to be great at every possible skill. A player s weaknesses lie where skills
are either lacking or underdeveloped such as in basketball where there may be a player that is great at
passing, but has mediocre scoring skills. Skills are essential in order to play any sport since they apply
to each different ability that is performed in the sport. Therefore, applying those skills to something in
a competitive manner makes a

Fire Service History
The origin, and the history of the fire service is what led it to be a such an essential service in our lives
today. The first fire department was created in Rome; it was a group made up of slaves chosen by
Aedile Marcus. Marcus Licinius Crassus was born around the year 115 BC and came from a rich
family. Marcus had formed his own firemen army , they were 500 men who rushed into burning
buildings. When the firemen came to extinguish the fire, Crassus and his men couldn t settle on a
price. Finally, when they came to an agreement, the building already burned halfway. This encouraged
the installation of a proper fire service system, what we now know today as the Fire Department.

the Service may change in the future. In the 20th century the fire departments started to change.
Firefighter had to be specialized training and education before they became an official fire department.
The training was mainly focused on how they be able to save lives. For example, technical rescue,
vehicle rescue and hazardous incidents. Briefly we now have discovered a lot about the fire
department, who started it, who was supporting the idea and gave it funding. Also we have learned a
little about the background history and how it was growing over the years. Moreover, we learned the
roles of the fire department and how their goal not only putting out fire but also rescuing citizens,

Benefits And Problems Associated With Globalization
This purpose of this paper is to provide a guideline for discussion of the benefits and problems
associated with globalization. The following points will show that the idea of globalization is both
positive and negative, while providing five examples of specific net gain and net problems. The
following paper will briefly discuss each issue, provide a short summary to provide context, give a
mechanism that could assist with managing the issue, as well as identifying how each can help with
the implementation of managing the resource.
I. The Net Gains of Globalization
1) Issue: Globalization has a positive effect on the environment through the active regu lation of the
entire timber trade process.
a) Summary: When companies are regulated in the amount of timber that is ex ported, this can help to
limit the amount of deforestation.
b) Mechanism: One agency best able to assist in the management of this policy would be CITES
(Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flo ra and Fauna).
c) Implementation: This agency is has been able to help in protection of timber re sources by including
legal documentation; this allows regulation of timber all levels of the trade. With increasing
acceptance of the need to place the international timber trade in a legal framework, CITES is an
important component of regulating the legal supply of timber. (Oldfield, S. F., 2013). The articles

The Significance Of Miniature Painting
Miniature Painting, with its ancient origin, bears focal significance in the history of regional art. The
discipline of Miniature Painting germinates from the early rock paintings or petroglyphs (images
produced by removing rock surface), found in locations like Bhimbetka and Daraki Chattan rock
shelters in Madyha Pradesh, India, nearly 30,000 years old. Later the Buddhist writings indicated the
use of paintings by military elites and the noble class, however, the paintings of the Ajanta Caves (200
BC to 500 AD), Maharashtra, are considered most noteworthy. This period may have had manuscripts
and smaller paintings, however, the earliest surviving examples were found during the middle ages
(500 AD to 1500 AD). There was a blend of Persian miniature and the ancient Indian traditions that
emerged as Mughal painting, which after the 17th century was adopted by most royal courts of the
region, evolving newer local styles. Though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Challenges Of Feminist Pedagogy And Urban Education
Feminist pedagogies use feminist theory to create a curriculum that seeks to empower groups of
students that have been historically subordinated in traditionally patriarchal classrooms. Using the
three central pillars of empowerment, community, and leadership feminist pedagogies aim to create a
sense of belonging for all students in the classroom (Shrewsbury, 1987).
Urban classrooms, on the other hand, have been increasingly diversifying in Ontario, and the
challenges faced within them have been coming to the forefront of educational discussions. Urban
teachers have been faced with the diversifying student needs in conjunction with a lack of resources
and funding (Blanchett, Kilgner, Harry, 2009, p. 392). Throughout this paper I will argue that feminist
pedagogy is a helpful tool to address these needs.
What is Feminist Pedagogy?
Feminist pedagogy is an educational philosophy that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Solomon (2005), urban education provides a curriculum and pedagogy that increases the
life opportunities and practice of responsible citizenship of those residing in urban communities
(p.120). While historically urban education had a grim outlook on urban schools, classifying them as
inner city and low income, modern urban education attempts use the diversity of urban classrooms to
create a critical pedagogy that explores issues such as racism, classism, sexism, ableism and
homophobia (Solomon, 2005, p.121). It is clear that there are parallels between the two educational
philosophies, and I believe that feminist pedagogy, in conjunction with urban education, has the
potential to be a transformative tool in urban classrooms. Feminist pedagogies overlap with urban
education is many unsuspecting ways. Since feminist pedagogies seek to accommodate and empower
all groups of students in the class, it can be extremely impactful in diverse urban classrooms.

Armed Team Case Study
As armed citizens, we face unique challenges. We must use a series of skills in tandem, creating the
challenge of managing diverse strategies, tactics, techniques and tools, while most of our training is
separated. Mixed Martial Arts once faced this challenge, each art specializing in a subset of technical
skills that lead to a reduced ability to deal with different styles of attack, eventually the essential
fundamentals were fused in cohesive core. The same conundrum faces the armed citizen. Developing
the fundamental skills of communicating, moving, hands in a defensive position, and presenting the
firearm, need to be trained together. A synergistic approach to training yields valuable insight into the

Compression is the length of the arms of both the attacker and defender, or a distance that allows the
gun to be grabbed. The compressed position allows us greater control over the firearm. Extension is
the end of the draw, arms extended in our final firing position. This the best position to use our sights
and control the firearm, if there is adequate space. Beyond contact range we find several positions that
occur needing practice to solve the timing issue of maintaining trigger finger and muzzle discipline.
One of these is the hand on the gun and the support hand extended to the threat, possibly emphasizing
the command of stay back, or handing valuables to the attacker. Practice bringing the support hand
back rapidly to the chest , moving to the side, thus ensuring we don t shoot ourselves when we draw.
The concealed, or surreptitious draw using our body to conceal our draw with a distracted adversary,
is an area of concern. Muzzle and trigger discipline needs to be strictly followed. There is a tendency
to sweep the firearm to the target, muzzling ourselves and others, conversely slowing the presentation

The Causes Of Black Power
According to Martin Luther King Jr., Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate
cannot drive out hate; only love can do that . The significance of this quote is to end racism with non
violence. There are many important people that support the claim of black power paved the way for
African American equality and civil rights. For example, Margaret Garner, Rosa Parks, and Martin
Luther King Jr. were all influential in the fight for black power. Black Power is a political slogan
aimed at achieving self determination for people of African descent. Martin Luther King Jr. was the
most important voice of the American civil rights movement and the Black power movement, which
both worked for equal rights for all. He was famous for using nonviolent resistance to overcome
injustice similar to Gandhi. Black power was necessary for paving the way for African American
equality, and civil rights that African Americans still fight for today.
Slavery is the practice system of owning slaves. Slavery caused segregation basically the act of setting
someone apart from other people. African Americans were segregated from white people because
African Americans were considered dirty. Slaves were usually bought to work on plantations. While
the slaves were on the ship they were prepared for the auction. The white ship workers cleaned,
shaved, and rubbed the slaves with palm oil to hide sores caused by conditions on the ship. The

The Nature Of People s Beliefs
Philosophy allows people to study the nature of people s beliefs. Throughout history people s beliefs
have differed. At one time people may believe one idea and decades later people may completely
disagree with that idea. Not even the ideas of the law are exempt from this occurrence. Since the
spoken word, hundreds of philosophers have defined law in different ways. Seeing law in different
ways people can come to different conclusions about specific cases. The Fugitive Slave Law was a
controversial law in American history. The Fugitive Slave Law allowed slave owners to capture their
slaves who have fled North to free states. In United States v Morris, the emancipators challenged the

Philosophers such as Thomas Aquinas describes the Natural Law theory as a theory coming from the
eternal law which is God s law imprinted on us. People determine moral issues from what is right and
wrong. Aquinas did think the answers for the moral issues were clear; however, he still asserted that
sometimes it is hard for people to decipher what was right and wrong. Aquinas thinks laws come from
the conclusions made from basic human knowledge knowing right and wrong. The law of nature
derives from morality Aquinas would say that morality and justice are serve from the moral law and
justice, and is what morality requires of us (Aquinas). Morality requires us to act righteously. If a law
is not moral, thus it is not a law I don t see that you have explained why Aquinas thinks that. The
Fugitive Slave Law goes against the laws of nature. Humans have their own free will and the law of
nature does not permit one human to claim another human. People are not property and have their own
free will. Obviously, morality says people are not possessions. One cannot approach a person and say,
I own you. It is not morally justifiable. According to Aquinas, the Fugitive Slave Law is not a real law
because it does not follow morality. At the time of the Fugitive Slave Law, people knew slavery was
wrong; so, the jurors in Morris did conduct in the appropriate manner. As stated before, natural law
theory states a law requires morality. The jurors

How has the Great Pacific Garbage Patch affected marine...
Recently, it has been said that an eighth continent has formed, but this is no ordinary landmass, instead
it is made entirely out of manmade trash. In the Pacific Ocean, between the coast of California and the

is called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, also known as the Pacific Trash Vortex. The patch extends
over a vast area in the North Pacific Ocean, its true size today is still considered undetermined because

which is jellyfish (Great Pacific Garbage Patch). Many other larger mammals and water birds have
been strangled in plastic rings that holds canned drinks together (Great Pacific Garbage Patch). Many
birds will commonly fly over the Pacific Garbage Patch, including the albatross, and unfortunately
many mistake the garbage as food (The Great Pacific Garbage). A shocking number of 200,000 to

also bottle caps and various items were found (The Great Pacific Garbage). It has been predicted that
about 100,000 marine mammals will die from trash related deaths per year, many pieces of plastic and
garbage has been found in deceased animals digestive systems (Great Pacific Garbage Patch). Rusty

Volkswagen Is Guilty Of The Clean Air Act
Volkswagen Case
Almost always, when a new product is released, some sort of problems will occur. In 2013,
Volkswagen was ranked first in its section on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. During that year,
Volkswagen scored an 89 out of 100. VW became one of the top competitors of sustainability within
the automotive industry. However, in the early 2000 s, diesel engine manufactures such as VW had

In the early 2000 s John German suspected that the data being submitted from diesel engine
manufactures was very questionable. With more research, in 2014, the EPA accused VW of violating
the Clean Air Act. The data showed that VW s Jetta and Passat were as much as 35 times the allowable
emission levels. The car s emission levels were compared to that of an 18 wheel truck. This means that
Volkswagen, regardless of them saying the vehicles were sustainable and environmentally friendly,
were not telling the truth. This ultimately is the sin of fibbing. As with every company, there are 3
levels of social responsibility. The first being Profit responsibility, the second being Stakeholder
responsibility, and the third being Societal responsibility. Profit responsibility is described as the
simple duty of companies to maximize profits for their owners or stockholders. Stakeholder
responsibility focuses on the obligations an organization has to those who can affect achievement of
its objectives. Finally, Societal responsibility refers to the obligations that organizations have to the
preservation of the ecological environment and to the general public. I personally believe that
Volkswagen has pursued Profit responsibility and Societal during the beginning but not towards the
end. I would say that both of these responsibilities relate greatly in VW s case. Volkswagen was
pursuing the Societal aspect during the early years of sustainable research

Questions On The Motives Of Ministry
Section 3 The Motives of Ministry Lesson 1: Your Relationship with Jesus Christ Maintaining your
relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing you should hold onto. If you lose that, then it
is guaranteed that you will not be an effective minister. There is no way that you can operate under the
agape love and not know Jesus Christ for yourself. How can one explain the character of Jesus Christ
if you have not discovered them for yourself? Remain true to who God has called you to be. Ministry
does not begin with a love for people. It begins with a love for God and then that love overflows to the
children of God. If we minister to God s people only out of a humanistic love for people we will be
people pleasers rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you have ever been to a restaurant where they have a front cashier, like McDonalds or Wendy s, it is
the job of that front cashier to serve the customers as they enter into the building. If you are new and
just walk in from the streets, you will not be able to stand behind the counter and serve without
knowing the policy or the expectations from that company. For example, when going to Chick Fila,
for a while they were the only restaurant that will end their services with the statement, it was a
pleasure serving you or it was my pleasure . After leaving, I felt that I was not a burden to them or that
they enjoyed their job. So every time I go, I automatically expect to hear that phrase at the end. Now,
what if someone new walked in not knowing that was something they tell their customers. They could
change the entire atmosphere on how they serve and it would be noticed. Training, workshops,
meetings allow employees to stay up to date with the owner s policy. It allows them to remain in the
vision of the company. The same with you as a minister or preacher, you have to maintain your
relationship with God through prayer, fasting, studying and more in order to remain confident that you
are exactly where God wants you to be. Not only that, but to evaluate if you are becoming more of a
people pleaser or are you still a God pleaser . Don t feel bad if that is the case, because we have all
slipped into that direction unconsciously, not

The Importance Of Type Ia
In the article, the author explains how astronomers have discovered a star system that have possibly
left behind a white dwarf after a weak supernova explosion. For instance, Type Ia are mini supernovas

Therefore, the Type Ia demonstrates supernova, they noticed they were viewing the light of the star

Carry On By Rainbow Rowell After The Success Of Her Book
Carry On was written by Rainbow Rowell after the success of her book Fangirl a novel in which the
main character, Cath, in a fanfiction writer for Simon Snow (the character by which this book was
based on) this book is about the fanfiction that Cath was writing throughout the whole story that
would later only be finished by some means of writing therapy. This book central theme is of sacrifice.
Each character must sacrifice something within them to boost the plot and find the resolution. For
example, Louise has to sacrifice her life to save Simon and Simon has to sacrifice his own magical
abilities in order to save the mage world. The setting of this book is Simon s school, Watford, and the
grounds around it. The whole school includes sleeping quarters for boys and girls separate, a chapel, a
football pitch (soccer in America), and a Great Lawn which is all watched over by a very high wall
and moat. The school is extremely safe but before the book takes place lots of creatures are sent to the
school by the book s main villain, the Humdrum. The Humdrum has been tormenting Simon since he
first got to the school and the Mage even asks Simon if he wants to be tutored somewhere far away to
hide. Simon refuses this offer, not wanting the school which he always looked forward to attending to
be taken away from him by the Humdrum like so many people were. The main character of this book
is (obviously) Simon, an orphan who is the most powerful mage in

The Benefits Of Free Community College Tuition
Throughout his presidency, Barack Obama has tackled pressing issues that pervade society. Among his
latest endeavours, free community college tuition is one which strikes a chord among many. Though
many supporters believe that free tuition will promote and speed up the process of attaining a college
degree, opposers, which includes students, like myself, believe that free community college tuition is
not necessary due to financial aid and the congested impact that CCs would endure.
Though in past years a high school diploma was highly sought, nowadays employers seek a candidate
with higher education including an associate s degree from a community college. The need for such a
degree faced with the cost of college has resulted in students

The Effects of Society in Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway...
Society is a constant changing idea, whether that change be from region to region or a period of time.
People move through it without thinking what they really are doing. Often they do not realize how
much pressure society places on one s being. It is the basis of how a person forms their opinions,
beliefs, and morals. The structure of behavior rests in the society one is raised in. People s acceptance
of one another and a desire to conform create a world where people are struggling to fit in. Virginia
Woolf sees this.
Woolf views society as a center for conflict for the characters in her novel. They struggle with the
internal dilemma of whether they should be who they want to be or what everyone else wants them to
be. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Septimus is afraid that if he allows any emotion to penetrate him, whether that be joy or sorrow, then
he will be forced to deal with the loss of his friend. As Emily Jensen states, war cuts short Septimus s
first feelings for Evans, and because he does not understand the meaning of that relationship, he
participates in what becomes a frustration of his ability to feel at all. (426) The idea that Jensen
describes is an example of why Septimus refuses to feel any emotion. The frustration comes from the
moment when Evans was killed and Septimus felt nothing. This is found when Woolf says:
...when Evans was killed, just before Armistice, in Italy, Septimus, far from showing any emotion or
recognizing that here was the end of a friendship congratulated himself upon feeling very little and
very reasonably. The War had taught him. It was sublime. He had gone through the whole show,
friendship, European War, death, had won promotion, was still under thirty and was bound to survive.
He was right there. The last shells missed him. He watched them explode with indifference. (130)
When Septimus does not feel anything when watching his friend die, he retracts himself from not only
his own feelings but also the feelings of everyone else. A fear of acceptance of Evan s death is what
pushed Septimus to create a world where there is no feeling whatsoever. As Molly Hoff stated,
Septimus is irredeemably alone, because he has completely shut himself

The Last Of Her Son Theme Essay
As Lord Acton, a renowned libertarian of the 19th century, once said Power tends to corrupt and
absolute power corrupts absolutely. In this quote, Sir Acton highlights the dangers of complete power.
Moreover, he notes that the acquisition of power tends to stain a person s morality. This observation is
true, as power numbs a person s ability to feel empathy. Therefore, the destructive nature of power is
that it represses those without it. This idea is explored thoroughly in the short story, The Last of her
Sons, by Alden Nowlan. In the story, Ethel and Judd are a working class couple with five sons, the
youngest being Skipper, a creative and imaginative child. Ethel is upset with Judd, her abusive and
tyrannical husband, because of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Judd uses violence, threats, as well as psychological manipulation to control Skipper. This is observed
when judd is in his drunken state and takes out his aggression on Skipper. As a result, around his
father Skipper adopted his formal manner. He walked slowly and seldom spoke. Through Skipper s
meek behavior around his father, it is revealed that Judd s dominance instills fear in Skipper s mind.
Since Skipper is unable to fight back, he has to obey. Skipper s helpless situation makes him feel
weak, and limits his confidence. Skipper s lowered self esteem makes him desire his father s approval
even more. After Skipper shoots a bird on his 14th birthday, Judd praises him by saying That Skipper
is a dead shot for sure and Skipper grinned proudly, relishing his father s praise. Judd uses positive
reinforcement effectively to control Skipper. Through Judd s compliment, Skipper found approval and
a sense of importance. This event would later be the catalyst for transforming Skipper, as later he
started drinking and found a job at the mill. Skipper did this because he know Judd would approve.
Through Skipper and Judd s relationship the author suggests that power can repress an individual
because it belittles them and forces them to

The Role of Fate in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juiliet
Fate. Who would have guessed that this four letter, one syllable word would play such a big role in
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet? Many people believed that it was free choices that led to the tragic
ending of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, but it was really fate. When looking up fate using
dictionary.com, it says that fate s something that unavoidably befalls a person; fortune, but in Romeo
and Juliet, fate is reality. Perhaps the biggest and most overlooked example of fate was in the
Prologue. It tells of a death marked love which proposes the story s concept of the people s
abridgment of control in their own lives. Romeo and Juliet could not expect their death resulting from
their cherished love, just as people couldn t control their future, and when Mercutio was dying he
shouts a plague on both your houses (III. I. 104). This reminded us of Romeo and Juliet s fate. This
glimpse of this tragic scene, gives us an example of what fate has in store for Romeo and Juliet.
Mercutio blames his death on both families when he died trying to stop a fight against Romeo, a
Montague, and Tybalt, a Capulet. Fate is two sided, it could bring happiness and joy, while bringing
despair and sorrow, too. In the tale of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo attempted to defy his own fate.
However, due to his blindness and reckless love for Juliet, his actions backfired and dragged him
down to his inevitable fate; a fate that he tried so hard to avoid. Eventually, he would meet his

Reactivities Of Some Alkyl Halides

Chemistry 75A
Due: November 18, 2013
Experiment 20: Reactivities of Some Alkyl Halides
Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to examine the reactivities of various alkyl halides under
both SN2 and SN1 reaction conditions. The alkyl halides will be examined based on the substrate
types and solvent the reaction takes place in.
Procedure: For the first part of this experiment, six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled
accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1
bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. To each of the six test tubes 2ml of 15%
sodium iodide in acetone was added. 4 drops of the appropriate halide was added to the test tube
labeled for that specific halide. After adding the halide, the test tube was then shaken to mix
thoroughly. If a precipitate formed the time it took was recorded. Since none of the solutions formed a
precipitate at room temperature after five minutes, the test tubes were placed inside of a hot bath at
about 50°C. After one minute, the test tubes were taken out of the hot bath and allowed to cool. If any
test tubes formed a precipitate, the time it took was recorded on a table. For the second part of the
experiment, again six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to test the following
halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane,
and bromobenzene. To each of the six

Should Music Be Taught In Schools
Music is pretty known all over the world. You can listen or hear music everywhere like your school or
even at home. Some families may want their children to learn about music while others do not. Music
helps you relax when stressed or sad. Music should be taught in school because it helps the brain,
helps comprehension skills, and helps coordination and organization. One important reason for kids to
play an instrument is that its good for the brain. While in music, you have to think and act in the same
time. Also, playing music helps kids use and improve memory skills. In source 2 it says one study of
preschoolers shows that kids who took keyboard lessons had more memory skills than kids who did
not take lessons . That quote is saying that music builds memorization skills because to be order to
play or sing, you d have to know and remember the keys of your instrument. Additionally, music helps
you be unique. In source 2 it says It gets their brains working in new and important ways . That means
that just by trying to play an instrument, you re already unique and helps you work on new ideas no

Joseph Stalin vs. Maximilien Robespierre Essays
Robespierre is known as possibly the greatest leader of the French Revolution. Stalin is known as one
of Russia s greatest leaders. There are many differences and similarities in each of their reigns as
leaders. Both used economic plans and total war effort as a campaign to further there revolution. Stalin
and Robespierre used their revolutions, however, through terror Stalin remained true to his revolution
but Robespierre betrayed his.

This resulted in extreme patriotism and nationalism amongst the French people.
With every great leader there are great supporters as well as great enemies. This was especially true
with Stalin and Robespierre. The French aristocracy was a major block for Robespierre because the
opposed his love and giving freedom of the lower classes. Robespierre set out a reign of terror
directed to those who may oppose the revolutionary government. He became obsessed with his power
to control those who could be put to death for opposing him and he executed those who were close to
him in power. Eventually he was shut out and executed for betraying the revolution.
Stalin similarly executed the minority groups that opposed him. His reign of terror was similar to
Robespierre except that Stalin had several key strengths. A few important ones are that he was street
smart and connected well with the common people. Another was that he was a great public speaker
and could appeal to the masses and majority through his voice. Finally he was manipulative and
shrewd, he was able to convince others he was the right leader and he was clever enough to appeal to
the correct people.
Robespierre used total war effort to help further the French Revolution but gave into terror and power
to meet his downfall as one of the greatest leaders in the French Revolution. Stalin developed a smart

Humanistic Psychology
At the beginning of this course I was excited to finally delve into psychological concepts that I had not
learned about, being that I was fresh into the psychology major and my background included an
infinitesimal understanding of basic concepts along with some background on child developmental
psychology. I have never deeply thought about psychology s relation to science, especially in regards
to research. My primary learning expectations for the course were to ultimately comprehend the
scientific side of psychology, while also being able to grasp an understanding of different
psychological concepts such as psychoanalysis, and about how these are translated into the
ontological, epistemological, or methodological aspects of research. Now coming to the end of the
semester, I have realized the depth and significance of the human science approach to researching and
understanding people. In regards to career goals, I plan retain the important qualities of the theories
we discussed and use them to visualize and recognize the complexity and malleability of an individual
s inner psyche. However, I still find myself lost in trying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

quite striking in this theory was the self actualizing tendency (SAT) that involves our innate urge to
grow and expand to our fullest potential. I have never equated humans to oak trees, but it is a suitable
analogy to what exactly is happening in regards to the SAT. Much like plants, we need nutrients to
grow, and these qualities include unconditional positive regard, congruence, and

Women s Rights And The Rights
Throughout history women have had to repeatedly fight for the basic rights readily given to their male
counterparts. The right to vote, the right to own property, the right to divorce, and the right to an equal
education are only a few of many examples in which women have had to fight for gender equality
against their peers, and even their own government. I believe the women s plight of this generation is
a woman s right to an abortion. It is my opinion that women should retain the right to an abortion,
regardless of trimester. No state or federal law should be able to regulate a situation so personal and
private, or impose laws in order to make treating the condition more difficult for those involved. The
decision to terminate a pregnancy is morally complex for everyone involved, however, it should be a
woman s decision and hers alone. An invasion of privacy in such an inhuman way is unconstitutional
and a direct attack on women s rights and the progress women have made in striving for equality.

Dewey confronted a series of photographs, and after hours of extensively examining he compared it to, How many animals can you find in this picture (Capote, 83). At last, he discovered that one of the photographs, contained diamond patterned soles, was not perceptible to the naked eye but rather by the glare of a flashbulb. This breakthrough offered Dewey and his detectives a slim prospect to protract the veracity of this investigation. 2. Susan Kidwell found the appearance of the victims most disturbing, the head of each was... encased in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size of an ordinary blown up balloon and the cotton... twinkled like christmas tree snow (Capote, 95). Susan could not handle seeing the kin in coffins, especially Nancy. The relationship between Susan and Nancy was amicable, they depended on each other. • 3. A Research Carried Out By Geert Hofstede And His... This report aims to introduce the research carried out by Geert Hofstede and his colleagues, identifying study procedures and overall outcomes. It will also examine each of the seven dimensions individually and clearly detect primary comparisons and contrasts of this model. Key implications of each dimension will also be studied in relation to management of Multinational enterprises, introducing appropriate examples throughout. Geert Hofstede defines national culture as the collective programming of the mind distinguishing the members of one group or category of people from others (Hofstede, 2012). Hofstede s findings were influenced by his former occupation as an IBM employee, inspiring his most significant work in advancing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The penultimate research of national culture referring to the study of value dimensions was conducted by Michael Harris Bond. Bond carried out further exploration among a group of students by leading a survey developed by Chinese professors, undertaken in 23 countries. This factor was called long term orientation, which then resolved in becoming the fifth cultural dimension. By 2010 the model was completed after a final two more dimensions were added, named pragmatism and indulgence. The research carried out was conducted by Michael Minkov, who studied modern World Values Survey data taken from population samples nationally. Author Robert R.McCrae supports Hofstede s dimensions by believing that they represent a well validated operationalization of differences between cultures as manifested in dominant value systems (McCrae, 2004). However, as studied on the Geert Hofstede website, only 6 dimensions are needed and necessary in defining culture attributes, resulting in pragmatism being dropped because of overlapping of meanings with long term orientation. Firstly, Hofstede s interpretation of power distance in comparing cultures is that it expresses the amount by which a smaller amount of authoritative members of a civilisation agree and assume that power in a culture is dispersed unequally. ... • 4. Newell And Rubbermaid Case Study At first glance, the merger of Newell and Rubbermaid seems very attractive. Newell had a proven track record of acquiring companies and turning them around to deliver shareholder value. Since the 1960s, Newell had made over 35 strategic acquisitions of commodity producing manufacturing firms with low operating margins. Acquisitions usually added to shelf space, increase supplier power and rounded out Newell s good, better, best multiproduct offering. Also, acquired companies were typically market leaders. Rubbermaid was one of the most recognized brands in the world, known for its innovative products and marketing. It also seemed that there was potential for synergies, especially if one looked at the customer base and distribution channels of the two firms. But the $5B acquisition of Rubbermaid would be their largest till date, and question to ask would be can Newell turn the company around to ensure higher margins and ROI within a targeted period of time? We can analyse the various synergies that could be achieved from this merger using the Eccles Lane Wilson Framework in Exhibit 1. No doubt the aim of the acquisition would be to Newellize Rubbermaid If we were to assume that Newell would expect to make major changes in the first two years to achieve cost savings and increase revenues, we would have to assume that Newell would achieve synergies across cost and revenues right from the get go. Given that revenues of $2.4B and net income of $142M, and administrative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Cardiovascular System Responses During Submaximal... INTRODUCTION Information on cardiovascular differences between the sexes is necessary for allied health professionals to best adapt rehabilitation exercises for the patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The cardiovascular system has to adjust in response to metabolic demands of working muscles during exercise. Gender related differences on how the body meets the increased demands while still maintaining homeostatic arterial blood pressure has been widely researched (CITE). There is some support that vaso regulation differences are due to female sex hormones (estrogen, in particular estradiol), and less sympathetic nervous system influence when compared to males (CITE). Additionally, body composition (higher muscle mass in males) and substrate utilisation (more lipid substrate utilisation in females) have been found to have significant effects on the cardiovascular system responses during submaximal exercise (CITE). Upper body exercise has been found to create more stress on the cardiovascular system compared to lower body exercise (CITE). The primary causes of death in the Australian population are directly or indirectly related to cardiovascular diseases (CVD) (CITE). Although, men are at greater risk for developing CVD, women have been found to have a higher morbidity rate post surgery (CITE). Additionally, the presentation of symptoms for female differs to that of their male counterparts (CITE). Thus, further investigation to better understand the differences ... Journey s that took months now became weeks. Around that period of time, the Egyptians were rumored to have made the first boat. Slowly Boats and ships became an even more efficient way of transportation. Fast forward to the 1800 s, trains were introduced. Now, people could move from place to place faster through land. Little by little, journey s that took weeks can now be reached in days. Fast forward to the late 1800 s, the automobile was introduced. People could now use a car as means of transportation and can get to nearby place even faster. Journey s took a few days and were not as much of hustle. Fast forward to the early 1900 s, the plane was introduced. Not everyone was on board at the time thinking that the risks of dying were just unbearable. It turns out it was the fastest way of transportation; journey s that took days, now could take hours. What does this show us? What does this tell us? Catching is an essential skill in football so in order to master the skill an individual must first learn how to catch and throw. Learning how to perform the skill at a faster rate is the next step after knowing how to perform the skill. After you learn how to throw the ball then you can start practicing with the speed of the throw. When you have learned the skill and have practiced to perform it well then you practice to perform it consistently by being fatigued, under stress, or under pressure. Overall practicing a skill takes a tremendous amount of time and effort that separates the level between all the competitors in a sport. Skills don t necessarily have to be physical they can be related to mental processes too. For example, in chess where one must try and predict and read their opponents next possible move, it requires the use of the mental state to be able to counter the opponent s moves. Every sport whether physical or mental contains a multitude of skills that must be mastered by the player. This is what makes every sport extremely tough to compete in due to the tremendous amount of practice that must be done to be great at every possible skill. A player s weaknesses lie where skills are either lacking or underdeveloped such as in basketball where there may be a player that is great at passing, but has mediocre scoring skills. Many people believed that it was free choices that led to the tragic ending of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, but it was really fate. When looking up fate using dictionary.com, it says that fate s something that unavoidably befalls a person; fortune, but in Romeo and Juliet, fate is reality. Perhaps the biggest and most overlooked example of fate was in the Prologue. It tells of a death marked love which proposes the story s concept of the people s abridgment of control in their own lives. Romeo and Juliet could not expect their death resulting from their cherished love, just as people couldn t control their future, and when Mercutio was dying he shouts a plague on both your houses (III. I. 104). This reminded us of Romeo and Juliet s fate. This glimpse of this tragic scene, gives us an example of what fate has in store for Romeo and Juliet. Mercutio blames his death on both families when he died trying to stop a fight against Romeo, a Montague, and Tybalt, a Capulet. Fate is two sided, it could bring happiness and joy, while bringing despair and sorrow, too. In the tale of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo attempted to defy his own fate. • 32. Reactivities Of Some Alkyl Halides Karen Dennie Professor Tjandra Chemistry 75A Due: November 18, 2013 Experiment 20: Reactivities of Some Alkyl Halides Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to examine the reactivities of various alkyl halides under both SN2 and SN1 reaction conditions. The alkyl halides will be examined based on the substrate types and solvent the reaction takes place in. Procedure: For the first part of this experiment, six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. To each of the six test tubes 2ml of 15% sodium iodide in acetone was added. 4 drops of the appropriate halide was added to the test tube labeled for that specific halide. After adding the halide, the test tube was then shaken to mix thoroughly. If a precipitate formed the time it took was recorded. Since none of the solutions formed a precipitate at room temperature after five minutes, the test tubes were placed inside of a hot bath at about 50°C. After one minute, the test tubes were taken out of the hot bath and allowed to cool. If any test tubes formed a precipitate, the time it took was recorded on a table. For the second part of the experiment, again six dry test tubes were obtained and labeled accordingly to test the following halides: 2 chlorobutane, 2 bromobutane, 1 chlorobutane, 1 bromobutane, 2 chloro 2 methylpropane, and bromobenzene. To each of the six ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This resulted in extreme patriotism and nationalism amongst the French people. With every great leader there are great supporters as well as great enemies. This was especially true with Stalin and Robespierre. The French aristocracy was a major block for Robespierre because the opposed his love and giving freedom of the lower classes. Robespierre set out a reign of terror directed to those who may oppose the revolutionary government. He became obsessed with his power to control those who could be put to death for opposing him and he executed those who were close to him in power. Eventually he was shut out and executed for betraying the revolution. Stalin similarly executed the minority groups that opposed him. His reign of terror was similar to Robespierre except that Stalin had several key strengths. A few important ones are that he was street smart and connected well with the common people. Another was that he was a great public speaker and could appeal to the masses and majority through his voice. Finally he was manipulative and shrewd, he was able to convince others he was the right leader and he was clever enough to appeal to the correct people. Robespierre used total war effort to help further the French Revolution but gave into terror and power to meet his downfall as one of the greatest leaders in the French Revolution. The torture of prisoners under American control includes being beaten, stripped, shocked, and starved of food among many other cruelties. In spite of the overwhelming proof of crimes, many of those involved were only charged with abuse of prisoners not of war crimes. Of those involved, only the lower to mid level personnel were charged. The overseer of the prison, General Janis Karpinski, was only relieved of her command. • 37. Humanistic Psychology At the beginning of this course I was excited to finally delve into psychological concepts that I had not learned about, being that I was fresh into the psychology major and my background included an infinitesimal understanding of basic concepts along with some background on child developmental psychology. I have never deeply thought about psychology s relation to science, especially in regards to research. My primary learning expectations for the course were to ultimately comprehend the scientific side of psychology, while also being able to grasp an understanding of different psychological concepts such as psychoanalysis, and about how these are translated into the ontological, epistemological, or methodological aspects of research. Now coming to the end of the semester, I have realized the depth and significance of the human science approach to researching and understanding people. In regards to career goals, I plan retain the important qualities of the theories we discussed and use them to visualize and recognize the complexity and malleability of an individual s inner psyche. However, I still find myself lost in trying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What I found quite striking in this theory was the self actualizing tendency (SAT) that involves our innate urge to grow and expand to our fullest potential. I have never equated humans to oak trees, but it is a suitable analogy to what exactly is happening in regards to the SAT. Much like plants, we need nutrients to grow, and these qualities include unconditional positive regard, congruence, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Women s Rights And The Rights Throughout history women have had to repeatedly fight for the basic rights readily given to their male counterparts. The right to vote, the right to own property, the right to divorce, and the right to an equal education are only a few of many examples in which women have had to fight for gender equality against their peers, and even their own government. I believe the women s plight of this generation is a woman s right to an abortion. It is my opinion that women should retain the right to an abortion, regardless of trimester. No state or federal law should be able to regulate a situation so personal and private, or impose laws in order to make treating the condition more difficult for those involved. The decision to terminate a pregnancy is morally complex for everyone involved, however, it should be a woman s decision and hers alone. An invasion of privacy in such an inhuman way is unconstitutional and a direct attack on women s rights and the progress women have made in striving for equality. On March 29, 1965 the Supreme Court was presented with the infamous case, Griswold v. Connecticut. When Estelle Griswold, the Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut and a colleague, the Medical Director for the League, unlawfully gave medical advice to married couples considering birth control.
