Rhetorical Analysis Of The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia
Since the beginning of time, authors have used rhetorical strategies in order to persuade the
reader of their claims. These rhetorical strategies are used in everyday life whether people use it
intentionally or not. My purpose for writing this text is to provide you guys examples of rhetorical
strategies using two pieces of text. The first piece of text is by Edward Albeeand it is titled The
Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia. The text is about a family going through turmoil. Martin, a married man
with a gay son, reveals that he is in love with a goat by the name of Sylvia. His love for Sylvia
ultimately ruins his relationship with his family. The author of this book, Albee, is known for
being an American playwright director. He has written several plays about relationships and
marriage. The second text is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, written by Hunter S. Thompson. The
text was about a guy named Raoul Duke and his attorney reporting the race during the Mint 400.
Throughout the text, both men go on a drug binge and consume countless amounts of substances.
Thompson was an American journalist who traveled across the U.S. Although he made several
pieces of work, he is best known for the type of journalism that he conducted. He created the term
ganzo which referred to his style of journalism. The term ganzo meant that the journalist has to be
an integral part of his stories. Albee and Thompson have different views of the American dream.
Albee argues that the American dream is perfect

The Pros And Cons Of Social Enempreneurship
Creation of Jobs aiming on changing business models
It is not that innovation and automation have resulted in unemployment or will lead to
unemployment instead innovation is actually intrinsic to the changing business models across the
world. Today s is an economy of innovation . We need to create innovative jobs that would
complement the innovative machines and technologies that are created. David Nordof and Vint
Cerf recently in their book Disrupting Unemployment argue that there is a need to develop a
people centered rather than a task centered economy. There is a need to create value of people
rather than just focusing on lower costs of tasks.
This essay argues that there needs to be a two fold strategy to rethink the unemployment crises
taking it away from a superficial entanglement of acronyms and arcane charts. The two fold strategy
includes:

Understanding Learning and Memory with the Morris Water Maze
Abstract
The overstimulation of GABA inhibitory receptors in the hippocampus has been found to obstruct
spatial learning and memory. Ethanol was administered to male Swiss Webster mice in low and
high doses in order to test its pharmacological effects on memory. The Morris water maze
experiment was conducted as the experimental basis of understanding ethanol s capacity to inhibit
and/or suppress cognition, specifically memory in the hippocampus. Three individually marked,
male, 47 day old Swiss Webster mice per 5 groups were used to conduct the Morris water maze
experiment. The average time spent in the water amongst all 3 experimental groups decreased post
injection; with the 10% ethanol treated mice having the best memory recall. There were a few
factors that may have contributed to the surprising results of the experiment, such as a small sample
size and varying tolerance levels. Understanding the role of GABA and glutamate in cognition can
provide the foundation for further research and experimentation of memory formation and recall in
the hippocampus.
Introduction
Learning and memory have been topics of particular interest to neuroscientists and
neurophysiologists alike for several years and have become a phenomenon in scientific research and
behavioral neuroscience. The hippocampus is the control station of spatial learning and memory in

A Report On Qatar Fifa World Cup Essay
Located on the continent of Asia, Qatar, short for Dawlat Qatar is an Arabian country that has
been ruled since the 1800 s by the Al Thani family ( ___ Qatar, n.d.). Qatar is known for being
home to the third biggest oil reserve on the globe behind Russia and Iran. This country is also the
world s greatest producer of liquefied natural gassince they started to imbue their time in the
industry during the late twentieth century ( Economic Development and standard of living in Qatar,
n.d.). Despite being rich in liquefied natural gas, the reserves have caused conflict amongst the
residents due to the decreasing air quality levels. Residents are begging for regulations to be issued
to reduce the amount of toxins in the air. In order to achieve this, the government needs to succeed
in enacting policies that impact air quality. Throughout this paper, the reader should understand the
positives and negatives of imposing such regulations on this country as well as apprehending the
impact the 2022 FIFA World Cup
is going to have in Qatar.
The financial system of Qatar depends heavily on gas and oil, which accounts for half of the
gross domestic product, eighty five percent of export earnings and seventy percent of government
revenue ( Economic Overview, n.d.). Because of oil, the gross domestic product per capita of
Qatar is ranked thirty four in the world. The proven oil reserves of the country have far surpassed

Winning by Jack Welch
Winning by Jack Welch The book Winning by Jack Welch was written in 2004. It is a straight
forward book that goes into all aspects of running a business and becoming a successful leader.
The author was the CEO of General Electric for over 20 years. Welch retired in 2001 and spends
his time traveling around the world giving speeches, answering questions and giving advice
about how to be able to run a successful business. After a couple of years of touring and giving
advice he decided to put it down on paper and wrote the book Winning. Welch takes a look at
every level of a business, whether it is a large or small company, the philosophy and practices
should be the same. The book is divided into four sections. The first section is... Show more content

The middle 70 must be managed differently and are probably the hardest group to manage. This
group of people is enormously valuable to any company; you simply cannot function without
their skills energy, and commitment. After all, they are the majority of your employees. (p. 41)
The last part of the first section talks about voice and dignity. It makes a point that people should
be allowed to express how they feel about things and not be penalized for it. Some people have
better ideas than others; some are smarter or more experienced or more creative. But everyone
should be heard and respected. (p. 57)
Allowing people to voice their opinion could lead to a great new innovative idea that will be
profitable for the company. The second section of the book is called YOUR COMPANY and one
of the chapters discusses leadership. Welch has eight rules of what leaders do on page 63 of his
book. His eight rules are:
1.Leaders relentlessly upgrade their team, using every encounter as an opportunity to evaluate,
coach and build self confidence.
2.Leaders make sure people not only see the vision, they live and breathe it.
3.Leaders get into everyone s skin, exuding positive energy and optimism.
4.Leaders establish trust with candor, transparency, and credit.
5.Leaders have the courage to make unpopular decisions and gut calls.
6.Leaders probe and push with a curiosity that borders on skepticism, making sure

Case Study Of Jamison s Bipolar Disorder
I believe that Jamison has bipolar type 1 disorder based on her symptoms and experiences. In
her very first manic episode, Jamison displayed 5 of the 7 possible symptoms, accompanied by
an abnormal increase in energy, for a manic episode found in the DSM 5: inflated self esteem,
decreased need for sleep, extreme talkativeness, racing thoughts with flight of ideas, and excessive
involvement in activities. The DSM 5 requires either elevated mood or increased energy with at
least 3 or more symptoms so it is clear that Jamison meets the criteria for maniain this episode. Her
other manic episodes, described above, display all symptoms of bipolar disorder and impair her
social, cognitive, and occupational functioning. In her first depressive episode

Roosevelt s Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine Essay
Before considering Professor X s assertion that the Roosevelt Corollary actually corrupted the
Monroe Doctrine s benevolent intent, it is worth considering whether or not the Monroe Docterine
was as benevolent as the unnamed professor seems to suggest. Professor X considers Monroe s
1823 Doctrine an act of benevolence, in which an increasingly dominant world power generously
extends protection over its continental neighbors. Yet the Professor ignores the inherently
imperialistic subtext that is contained within the Doctrine, and thus his comparison of the Monroe
Doctrineto the Roosevelt Corollaryomits a fundamental aspect of America s colonialist history.

Wilfred Owen
What is Wilfred Owen s attitude towards WW1 and how is this shown through his poetry?
Wilfred Owen was a soldier during world war one. Many of his poems were published
posthumously, and now well renowned. His poems were also heavily influenced by his good
friend and fellow soldier Siegfried Sassoon. Wilfred Owen was tragically killed one week before
the end of the war. During the war Wilfred Owen had strong feelings towards the use of
propaganda and war in general, this was due to the horrors he saw during his time on the frontlines.
During his time on the battlefield he thought a lot about the war and the feelings he and other
soldiers had, and he channelled his thoughts through poetry. In this essay I will compare Dulce et

tone What passing bells for those who die as cattle... only the monstrous anger of the guns these
words are trying to tell us that war is not glorious as you do not get a proper funeral, and you die

Owen uses personification to describe the guns Only the monstrous anger of the guns to build

shows that in war there are only the sounds of guns being fired. In war, instead of honouring
those who have fallen, more are being killed by the same weapons. Thus giving us a clear

Iraq s Internal Struggle Of Iraq
Iraq s Internal Struggle With the current situation in Iraq, we must take a look into the country s
history. In 1920 Iraq started a rebellion against the British that lasted until 1932 when it declared
its independence. Iraq was governed by a monarchy until 1958, when a group of Iraqi military
officers staged a coup and overthrew the monarchy declaring Iraqa republic. Major General Abdul
Karmel Qasim took over as Iraqi prime minister, minister of defense, and commander and chief
after the successful coup. In 1963, yet another military coup occurred that would lead to the
death of Major General Abdul Karmel Qasim. Saddam Hussein became president of Iraq in
1978, at the end of this coup. In 1990 Iraq invaded Kuwait; this sparked the start of the infamous
first Gulf War. At the beginning of 2003 Great Britain and the United States formed a strategic
alliance to conduct a series of bombing raids on Iraq to weaken and disable their Air Defense
Network. After the bombing campaign the coalition once again led a force into Iraq to liberate
the country and end Dictator Saddam Hussein s reign of tyranny. 2005 marked a momentous
occasion for Voters as they approved a new constitution. The new constitution turned Iraq an
Islamic federal democracy. ( Iraq: History Global Edge) The country held its inaugural election in

Review Of Alice Marwick s Status Update Essay
Book Review 2 Status Update
Status Updates author Alice Marwick is an experienced academic observer of American online
culture who subjectively weighs in on the new era of media and where this social media
phenomenon is in this country let alone the world. This book takes you on a personal journey
sheading light on old and new ideas such as, dot com era, Web 2.0, self branding, Neoliberal
capitalism, the up rise of micro celebrities, and online personas. Although precisely written and
full of extensive qualitative research, this book is mostly over opinionated and anecdotal. A
good amount of what Marwick is preaching isn t necessarily true and full of negative rhetoric
towards men such as Gary Vaynerchuk, a self branding guru who she actually dedicates a part of
her book too along with others. Most of the book is full of her first hand experiences in northern
California tech start up hotbed areas where most of her work was done by good journalism.
The dot com era took off around 1997 and peaked in 2002, this idea like the name suggests was
based off of large investments in internet tech companies whether they were profitable or not.
Looking back, it s easy too say that there was a lack of common sense or a lack of urgency to make
money since it failed. Directly after Web 2.0 made its presents, and it wasn t new software for

about how to act and how to be a gentilmen. Eventhough in his home, his sister and Joe was rude
and uneducated, Pip was not like that when he was socializing through his life. It can be argued
that this situation can be explained by secondary socialization. Secondary socialization refers to
the process of learning what is the appropriate behavior as a member of a smaller group within
the larger society. Basically, it is the behaviors intensified by society. Secondary socialization
occurs outside the home. It is where children and adults learn how to act in a way that is
appropriate for the situations they are in as Pip learned in Mrs. Hamington s house. After he got
out of the home, he stil was thinging that it is a must for a man to be a educated and gentle. His
primary socialization which refers to learning acting appropriate from parents does not affect him
that much. Also in this novel we can see that all the events happen at the Victorian England times.

Empress Wu Zetian And Queen Elizabeth I
All throughout history and in different regions of the world, ambitious female rulers have
discovered that their greatest challenge was to overcome society s negative perception of
women gaining power. As did all rulers, female leaders also had to overcome obstacles in times
of political disorder in order to gain power. The theme of a female ruler s ability to overcome
challenges in times of political turmoil has manifested similarly and differently in the rule of
Chinese Empress Wu Zetianand England s Queen Elizabeth I. The megalomaniacal Wu Zetian has
garnered sizable attention for being the first and only empress of China, her devious methods to

Confucians continued to loathe Wu Zetian even after declaring herself empress and tension was
rapidly rising with constant fear of rebellion. Wu Zetian attempted to combat Confucians by
promoting Buddhism to be the official religion of China through the mass construction of Buddhist
temples, invitation of scholars, and the creation of cave sculptures. The purpose of the policy was
to make her a legitimate ruler in the eyes of the new converted Buddhists. As a result, Confucians
further detested her as she tried to spread a contrasting religion and remove Confucianism as the
state philosophy. Furthermore, the public, aside from the highly Confucian followers, began to
now see her as a legitimate ruler as the new philosophy supported her rule. Similarly, Queen
Elizabeth faced domestic problems with the disunity within the Anglican Church, an important part
of English society. According to the Act of Uniformity issued by Queen Elizabeth, a Common
Book of Prayer was decreed that eventually fixed the variation of prayers in churches across
England. As a result, there was less conflict and debate between people over whose way of
practicing was correct and people felt a sense of unity as now all followed the same practices.
Furthermore, the Act helped strengthen the church as an establishment through its unification of
the people, which helped Elizabeth gain her strongest

Nature Vs. Nurture In Human Language And Language
I personally believe that nurture plays a bigger role in the development of human language than
nature. To establish an understanding of the roles of nature vs. nurture as it contributes to a person
and the role in the community a set of knowledge issues need to be questioned. These two issues
are what is the definition of Nature V.S. Nurture? And why are these two factors important for
humans and their ability to develop their language skill in order to communicate and express
themselves? The first knowledge issue of what is the definition of Nature vs. Nurture can be
expressed in simpler terms than that of the second knowledge issue. The issue of nature can be
expressed as traits or the most commonly used term genetics, meaning a person is born with these
traits. While nurture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Middle School Athletics Staffing Essay
Middle School Athletics Staffing
In the business world, each year is different from the other, same goes for the academic division.
It is a fact that people come and people go for all types of reasons. Change is forever arising,
sometimes for the better or worse. Within the middle school athletics level there are 13 Athletic
Directors (AD) positions and 160 or more coaching positions, dependent on each teams
participation. AD s and coaches are paid employees of the district. The AD s supervise the coaches
at their individual school buildings or act as a sports liaison within their assigned school. The
coaches simply coach. Many of our coaches have experience in the sport they are coaching, but
sometimes we need a warm body or parent/volunteer to coach a team. In the area of Athletics
you are always asked to work or volunteer more than you get paid. In most cases if you put in 40
hours weeks then you are paid for 40 hours. In athletics you may put in 40 hours and are only
compensated 15 hours. The middle school AD position is part time and pays 10 12 hours per
week. So you can imagine the high turnover rate for AD s. Coaches are paid based on their
experience in the sport they are coaching. The coaches is pay is a percentage of the teacher s
contract. It can range from 3 5% of $37,600 and the teacher s contract varies from year to year. The

Analysis Of Bon Voyage
Visual/Object Analysis Project One Greg Olson s Bon Voyage is a framed print painting. It
measures 13.50 x 11.88 . This image was submitted to Fine Art America in 2012. I find Olson
created a quite busy, yet intricate image that evokes many different thoughts and feelings as to
its meaning. One can make a connection with God, others can say the image represents the
expansive imagination of children. Less than a quarter of a bed finds itself sitting in the right
section of the frame. The blankets were blue with hints of purple. A singular white pillow lays
against the wooden bedframe. Above the bed rests a variety of purple and blue shades blended
inside a golden picture frame. The walls containing the room are the same mix of blue but with
the lightest part of the image being the middle, with it getting subtly darker as the viewers eyes
stray left or right from the center. Just to the left of the bed, a young boy, perhaps six years of
age, holding open a sturdy wooden chest for a large array of animals. The image looks to be
representing post 2000. The boy was a pale skin tone with rosy cheeks and blond hair. He wore a
loose, long sleeve red pajama shirt, accompanied by red pajama pants. He wore a heavier blue
robe over his shirt. The robe consisted of two vertical white lines tracing the opening of the robe

Essay Risk Management Issue
Risk management is the most important part of any organization to face the risks that might arise
when a new project started. It should be a first concern when the decision is being made. Risk
management is the practice of looking at the exposure to risk and deciding how to best handle that
exposure. The idea behind riskmanagement is to decide if the benefit outweighs the risk. This
process will help you to identify risks that might normally be overlooked so when things come up,
they do not surprise you by having a plan in place on how to solve them.
Risk management would help to identify and then manage threats that could severely impact or
bring down the organization. This could be done by reviewing operations of the organization, ...

Langston Hughes Salvation
Langston Hughes Salvation was a short story written about the experience he had getting saved.
I found the short story to be very familiar and known. The short story appears to follow Langston
Hughes many feelings and emotions such as heartbreak, despair, sadness, hope, and loss. In this
piece, most of the story centered around Langston at church and his surroundings as he was
getting saved. On the other hand, Ken Noyle s A Grunt Prayer was a poem he wrote about his
prayer from the war. I found the prayer to be very sad and inspirational. The poem appears to
follow his feelings on the war such as loss, fear, hope, and love. In this work, most of this poem
centered around a prayer made from a soldier in war.

Teen Pregnancy Essay
Pregnancies are a wonderful thing. Just imagine being able to create another human being and
bringing it into the world. Although this may be what the majority of mothers think, teen moms
may have a different perspective. They might have been forced into pregnancy and the child may
be a reoccurring thought of what happened to her. Chances are the teen will love her baby in the
long run, but in the beginning the teen most likely had different views. Teen pregnancyis a

Generally when a teen has a baby, society tends to make her seem like a monster, and that
whatever happened to cause this. She gets shunned and pushed into a dark place where she may
not be capable to provide the best care for herself or her baby. The duo may be ignored by their
family and friends, causing them to feel very isolated and alone, which could potentially lead to
things such as insanity, other mental health issues, or the worst case possible, death.
Unfortunately, if the teen gets to the point where she feels like there s no other option, she will
most likely turn to drugs and alcohol, making her situation even worse for herself and those
around her. If drugs or alcohol were involved before the teen knew she became pregnant, medical
complications to her or the baby are very likely. The teen has to stop drinking, or doing any type
of drugs immediately if she wants to keep her and her baby safe. If the mother gets hurt in anyway
while she is pregnant, she can potentially hurt and/or kill her baby. Birth deformities are common
in mothers who choose to not have a healthy lifestyle. Teen moms are more likely to have their
babies born early, have miscarriages, and underweight babies. This will lead to the need of more
medical attention, which leads to more money. If the teen mother does not have any help from
parents, family, or friends, she will most likely not be able to pay for it and could cause harmful
things to occur to her

Medical Experiments During Ww2
Throughout WW2, the Nazis conducted many experiments on prisoners in the concentration
camps. The experiments were extremely brutal to the persons being experimented on. Many of
these doctors used their authority to justify the means of their research . There are various different
experiments that were conducted for supposed benefit to the German army. Experiments conducted
by Nazis were inhumane and traumatizing to those lucky enough to survive. Although the
experiments done on humans during WW2 were absurd, there are some factors that were
beneficial. Some of the data recorded by the Nazis is used in many scientists works today. For
example, Nazi hypothermia studies, for instance, have been cited in the medical literature for
decades, and recently several scientists have sought to use the data in their own work (Tyson).
Another compelling argument regarding the injustices done to the prisoners revolves around the
Nuremberg trials. After the war, the Nuremberg trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi
war criminals to justice (Nuremberg Trials). Laws were also made after the Holocaust to protect
human test subjects of future experiments. On the contrary to the dreadful things done to the
prisoners, few relevant points are presented as positive outcomes.... Show more content on

the clean energy industry and the necessary steps to achieve these ambitions. In addition, I wanted

Essay about North by Northwest, by Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock s film North by Northwest (1959) is famed as a classic man on the run thriller,
following protagonist Roger Thornhill as he flees across state lines in a mad dash to save his life
and unravel the mystery to his extraordinary predicament. However, mid way through the film
Thornhill s quandary is further complicated by the introduction of Eve Kendall, a beautiful yet
mysterious woman he encounters on a train during his escape from the authorities and people
trying to kill him. During the dining room scene on the train, Hitchcock expertly uses the camera to
convey the characters thoughts and feelings. Interestingly, in a film that has several sequences with
complicated cinematography and editing, the dining car scene is... Show more content on

Once the flirtations between the two in intensify, Hitchcock transitions into using close shots,
beginning when Eve discloses her bribe arranging Thornhill being seated with her, and her
subsequent reveal that she knows Thornhill wanted for murder. The use of the close shot
provides a better, more intimate view of their expressions as they banter back and forth and the
sexual innuendos ramp up. Thornhill s thoughts are particularly evident across his face as he
changes from showing interest in the attractive woman across from him, to tension at being
recognized by her, to unabashed glee at the prospect of sleeping with same said beautiful woman,
and finally to alarm as he learns police are boarding the train. In contrast to Thornhill s expressive
looks, Hitchcock shows Eve s as being more controlled and understated. Throughout her linguistic
dance with Thornhill, Eve manages to maintain an air of surety about herself, revealing only those
pieces of information that she wants him to know. She manages to exude a sense of cool certainty
and control during arguably the most sexually suggestive moment of the film: in the only profile
shot of the scene, the camera shows Eve as she slowly blows out the flame on the match Thornhill
uses to light her cigarette, clasping his hand as she does so. This aura of calm calculation gives the
sense that she is in complete control, no doubt due

American Culture And Its Technological Leadership Of Web...
From a historic viewpoint, the American culture has dominated global culture based on its
technological leadership of Web based and consumer technology (Ashby, 2006). While these
innovations are being adopted outside the United States, in America on the other hand, it becomes
less American and more global. Cortada (2009) explains that American Web sites, applications
and high tech gadgets are dispersed worldwide, which results therefore in them becoming less US
centric, even though they remain influenced by American culture. By using Facebook in this
thesis, one sees that this technology is clearly a part of American culture, but worldwide adoption
leads it to become less American. Nye (1997) explained, Machines are social constructions which
Americans long have built into both their narratives and their sense of place (P.39). Technologies
are an essential part of American self representation, tourism, and visual sensibility. Americans
have also developed machines in their own way and woven them into landscapes, social relations
and a sense of history (Nye, 1997). However, Postman (1992) defines a society as a techonopoly ;
the culture has its authorization in technology, and finds its approvals and takes its orders from
technology. Still, Postman was criticized by David Croteau and William Hoynes (2003), they
argued that Postman had underestimated the work of a technology s users. Alexander Star (1992)
also disagreed with Postman, and argued that Postman disregards

E.e. Cummings, Poem, Anyone Li Essay
E.E. Cummings
quot;anyone lived in a pretty how town quot;
I first read this poem and I thought of love, two people in love. Anyone and noone are in love and
that is what matters to them, to be in love with each other and with life. It involves the day, the
night, and how the weather changes. The seasons revolve and the children grow up to become
adults. As I read the poem I realized there were three sections to it. Which consist of anyone and
noone, quot;women and men quot; in line four, and the children. The first stanza is strange the first
time you read it. You do not understand quot;anyone quot; is a person and not just anyone. I

The portion of line two which states quot;many bells down quot;, is possibly referring to the death
of the children and somewhat the death of anyone and noone. The reference to death in lines twenty
nine and thirty by stating quot;deep by deep quot; and quot;more by more they dream their sleep
quot; shows how they surcome to death. In line thirty three quot;ding and dong quot; I think could
be anyone and noone.
Death is a part of the poem but the turning point lies in line twenty five, which states: quot;one day
anyone died i guess quot;. The main focal point is the uncapitalized quot;i quot;, in analyzing
poems I have begun to look at punctuation to tell me something about the author and look more
deeply into the poem and it amp;#8217;s meaning. The uncapatilized quot;i quot; gives a detached
feeling when you look at the line closely. It seems as though he could be detached because of the
death that surrounds this poem, has if does not want to involve himself as much in it. The quot;i
quot; could also represent the importance of something, probably love which one of the underlying
themes of the poem. The children are still alive until line twenty five. As in lines twenty two and
twenty three they are thought to be just playing, not being an important part, but Cummings is
quite possibly showing their lack of maturation. They do not seem as though they are too old to be
just playing around, but as it says in line

The Varsity Crew Team
Our presentation will summarize the Army Crew Team Case, discussing the differing leadership
characteristics between the Varsity Crew and the Junior Varsity Crew. In 1852, Harvard and Yale
had their respective crews compete against one another, which began the tradition of sports in
American universities. Today s standards require that crewmates make a year long commitment to
the team. However, the racing that we commonly associate with crew does not occur until Spring.
The ultimate goal of a crew team is to win against its opponents in these races, which focuses on the
task pressures within a crew team. In addition, crewmates must move at the same pace, because the
outperformance, or hubris, of one crewmate could slow down the shell. The US Olympic

A Slave From Bondage Essay
Man has been held against his will by another since the beginning of recorded history. Those held
against their will have sought to be free of the constraints imposed upon them by another.
However, there were some who were in bondage able to obtain freedom through a process that
became known as manumission. Manumission is the liberating of a slave from bondage. It is the
formal act of freeing one from slavery. In South Carolina, as with several other states in the Deep
South, slaves could be manumitted by one of two ways. Manumission could be given privately
by an individual or it could be done officially by state law. Private manumission was rare in most
states, and was restricted, but it did happen from time to time. Manumission was not an easy task
to accomplish; private manumission in fact was a rare occurrence in most states. Some slaves
were freed by the last will and testament of their owners, for faithful service, from masters freeing
their slave mistresses and children from their sexual relations, or by some meritorious deed.
Attaining freedom in the Deep South by 1810 it was almost impossible to manumit slaves. Most
slaves yearned for freedom, but very few obtained it. Those that attained this freedom achieved it
through one of three means: manumission, through a last will and testament, or legislative laws. A
small number were even able to hire themselves out for pay after the workday for the master ended
and earn enough money to buy their freedom.

Summary Of Kitchen By Banana Yoshimoto
In the novel Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto, Yoshimoto demonstrates that family is important when
coping with the difficulties of life. Yoshimoto shows this through the usage of the contrast of light
and dark, and the motifs of the kitchen, and food. One motif that used is food, which is used to
represent the presence of family, and how that aides coping. Yoshimoto uses the motif of the kitchen
to represent the ability of the family to help another family member cope. Yoshimoto uses the
contrast of lightand dark to show that as the characters shift from feeling grief to joy, people who
can be considered family are involved. Yoshimoto uses the motifs of food and the kitchen along
with the contrast between dark and light to show that family is important when coping with the
troubles of life.
Yoshimoto uses the motif of food to show that family can help cope with life s troubles. One
example of food representing family helping to cope, is when Mikage creates an international

maturity level of a person is determined by whether or not the person takes responsibility for their
errors. The short story The Man Who Was Almost a Man by Richard Wright and the lyric poem
Forgive My Guiltby Robert Coffin both fixate on young boys who wrongly take the lives of
creatures with a weapon. The short storyand the lyric poem share a common theme regarding the
significance of early life experiences to the maturation process as seen in the way the main
characters react to their mistakes. Dave in The Man Who was Almost a Man runs away from
his problems while the narrator in Forgive My Guilt holds himself accountable for his action and
feels guilty. In the short story, The Man Who Was Almost a Man, Richard Wright uses colloquial
language to develop the theme. For instance, in the scene where Dave is accused of killing the
mule, the difference in speech used by Dave, a black sharecropper, and Jim Hawkins, his white
employer, is evident. Jim Hawkins uses a more formal language when talking to Dave: Well,
looks like you have you a mule, Dave (5). In stark contrast, Dave responds using a more informal
way of speaking: Ah swear fo Gawd, Ah didn t go t kill the mule, Mistah Hawkins (5). The speech
in the story shows the varying degrees of education of the characters in the story and depicts the
segregation in the South between whites and blacks. Dave is also a

The Pros And Cons Of Vaccines For Animals
Administering vaccines to companion animals is a common practice intended to prevent the
contraction of specific diseases by our pets. Like in humans, animals can be protected from
illness by staying up to date on their vaccinations, which can range from once every six months
to once every three years if kept current. However, there are those who choose not to vaccinate
their pets and do not believe that vaccines are effective or safe. Is this mindset acceptable, or can
it be considered dangerous? Is it necessary to vaccinate our pets? Are there risks to getting regular
vaccines, and if so, what are they? A vaccineis, by definition, a preparation of killed
microorganisms, living attenuated organisms, or living fully virulent organisms that is
administered to produce or artificially increase immunity to a particular disease (Merriam
Webster, n.d.). In other words, living or killed viruses or bacteria are injected into the body and
used to create antibodies for diseases caused by those viruses or bacteria. For example, the disease
leptospirosis is caused by coming into contact with Leptospira bacteria through ingestion, being
bitten by an infected animal, or having an open wound or mucous membrane that can allow the
bacteria to enter the body. It is also a zoonotic disease, meaning that humans can contract it from
their dogs, although this is uncommon (AVMA, n.d.). However, getting a yearly leptospirosis
vaccine can help protect dogs from getting infected by the bacteria

Organic Law of Villager Committees
Village Election Law was pursued in the 1980s, enacted nationally since 1987 and after further
extended and revised. It becomes Organic Law of Villager Committees in the 1998. Village
election is part of village self governing, which appears in the 1982 revision of Article 111 of the

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia Since the beginning of time, authors have used rhetorical strategies in order to persuade the reader of their claims. These rhetorical strategies are used in everyday life whether people use it intentionally or not. My purpose for writing this text is to provide you guys examples of rhetorical strategies using two pieces of text. The first piece of text is by Edward Albeeand it is titled The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia. The text is about a family going through turmoil. Martin, a married man with a gay son, reveals that he is in love with a goat by the name of Sylvia. His love for Sylvia ultimately ruins his relationship with his family. The author of this book, Albee, is known for being an American playwright director. He has written several plays about relationships and marriage. The second text is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, written by Hunter S. Thompson. The text was about a guy named Raoul Duke and his attorney reporting the race during the Mint 400. Throughout the text, both men go on a drug binge and consume countless amounts of substances. Thompson was an American journalist who traveled across the U.S. Although he made several pieces of work, he is best known for the type of journalism that he conducted. He created the term ganzo which referred to his style of journalism. The term ganzo meant that the journalist has to be an integral part of his stories. The Pros And Cons Of Social Enempreneurship Creation of Jobs aiming on changing business models It is not that innovation and automation have resulted in unemployment or will lead to unemployment instead innovation is actually intrinsic to the changing business models across the world. Today s is an economy of innovation . We need to create innovative jobs that would complement the innovative machines and technologies that are created. David Nordof and Vint Cerf recently in their book Disrupting Unemployment argue that there is a need to develop a people centered rather than a task centered economy. There is a need to create value of people rather than just focusing on lower costs of tasks. This essay argues that there needs to be a two fold strategy to rethink the unemployment crises taking it away from a superficial entanglement of acronyms and arcane charts. The two fold strategy includes: Policy Matrix Change Social Reformation through Social Entrepreneurship There are new complex issues which stand at the end of policy makers end. 1.Policy makers should utilize the benefit of growth productivity and innovation to design the course of policy making to galvanize investment and market incentives to encourage progress at ... Nwokochah BIO 482L Lab Report 18 October 2015 Understanding Learning and Memory with the Morris Water Maze Abstract The overstimulation of GABA inhibitory receptors in the hippocampus has been found to obstruct spatial learning and memory. Ethanol was administered to male Swiss Webster mice in low and high doses in order to test its pharmacological effects on memory. The Morris water maze experiment was conducted as the experimental basis of understanding ethanol s capacity to inhibit and/or suppress cognition, specifically memory in the hippocampus. Three individually marked, male, 47 day old Swiss Webster mice per 5 groups were used to conduct the Morris water maze experiment. The average time spent in the water amongst all 3 experimental groups decreased post injection; with the 10% ethanol treated mice having the best memory recall. There were a few factors that may have contributed to the surprising results of the experiment, such as a small sample size and varying tolerance levels. Understanding the role of GABA and glutamate in cognition can provide the foundation for further research and experimentation of memory formation and recall in the hippocampus. Introduction Learning and memory have been topics of particular interest to neuroscientists and neurophysiologists alike for several years and have become a phenomenon in scientific research and behavioral neuroscience. Many of his poems were published posthumously, and now well renowned. His poems were also heavily influenced by his good friend and fellow soldier Siegfried Sassoon. Wilfred Owen was tragically killed one week before the end of the war. During the war Wilfred Owen had strong feelings towards the use of propaganda and war in general, this was due to the horrors he saw during his time on the frontlines. Wu Zetian attempted to combat Confucians by promoting Buddhism to be the official religion of China through the mass construction of Buddhist temples, invitation of scholars, and the creation of cave sculptures. The purpose of the policy was to make her a legitimate ruler in the eyes of the new converted Buddhists. As a result, Confucians further detested her as she tried to spread a contrasting religion and remove Confucianism as the state philosophy. Furthermore, the public, aside from the highly Confucian followers, began to now see her as a legitimate ruler as the new philosophy supported her rule. Similarly, Queen Elizabeth faced domestic problems with the disunity within the Anglican Church, an important part of English society. The experiments were extremely brutal to the persons being experimented on. Many of these doctors used their authority to justify the means of their research . There are various different experiments that were conducted for supposed benefit to the German army. Experiments conducted by Nazis were inhumane and traumatizing to those lucky enough to survive. Although the experiments done on humans during WW2 were absurd, there are some factors that were beneficial. Some of the data recorded by the Nazis is used in many scientists works today. For example, Nazi hypothermia studies, for instance, have been cited in the medical literature for decades, and recently several scientists have sought to use the data in their own work (Tyson). Another compelling argument regarding the injustices done to the prisoners revolves around the Nuremberg trials. After the war, the Nuremberg trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice (Nuremberg Trials). Post Co op Reflection A day after I completed my second cooperative at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), I immediately transitioned to a new position at a startup company called EnergySage. In addition, I wanted to enhance my skillset which include interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and complete the internship with a range of new skills. Through my position, I was fortunate enough to have many professional development experiences, which led to networking, outreach and leading and organizing meetings. Perhaps, the biggest lesson of all was how essential building your network will be to achieving your goals. This led to revision of my seventh goal to include networking and outreach as the desired skills I received. These two professional goals are reflective of what I hope to achieve in the future and hence why I took on my current internship. I truly enjoyed this past co op experience and felt that most aspects were enjoyable, rather than difficult. Essay about North by Northwest, by Alfred Hitchcock Alfred Hitchcock s film North by Northwest (1959) is famed as a classic man on the run thriller, following protagonist Roger Thornhill as he flees across state lines in a mad dash to save his life and unravel the mystery to his extraordinary predicament. However, mid way through the film Thornhill s quandary is further complicated by the introduction of Eve Kendall, a beautiful yet mysterious woman he encounters on a train during his escape from the authorities and people trying to kill him. During the dining room scene on the train, Hitchcock expertly uses the camera to convey the characters thoughts and feelings. Once the flirtations between the two in intensify, Hitchcock transitions into using close shots, beginning when Eve discloses her bribe arranging Thornhill being seated with her, and her subsequent reveal that she knows Thornhill wanted for murder. The use of the close shot provides a better, more intimate view of their expressions as they banter back and forth and the sexual innuendos ramp up. Thornhill s thoughts are particularly evident across his face as he changes from showing interest in the attractive woman across from him, to tension at being recognized by her, to unabashed glee at the prospect of sleeping with same said beautiful woman, and finally to alarm as he learns police are boarding the train. In contrast to Thornhill s expressive looks, Hitchcock shows Eve s as being more controlled and understated. Throughout her linguistic dance with Thornhill, Eve manages to maintain an air of surety about herself, revealing only those pieces of information that she wants him to know. She manages to exude a sense of cool certainty and control during arguably the most sexually suggestive moment of the film: in the only profile shot of the scene, the camera shows Eve as she slowly blows out the flame on the match Thornhill uses to light her cigarette, clasping his hand as she does so. This aura of calm calculation gives the sense that she is in complete control, no doubt due ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. American Culture And Its Technological Leadership Of Web... From a historic viewpoint, the American culture has dominated global culture based on its technological leadership of Web based and consumer technology (Ashby, 2006). While these innovations are being adopted outside the United States, in America on the other hand, it becomes less American and more global. Cortada (2009) explains that American Web sites, applications and high tech gadgets are dispersed worldwide, which results therefore in them becoming less US centric, even though they remain influenced by American culture. By using Facebook in this thesis, one sees that this technology is clearly a part of American culture, but worldwide adoption leads it to become less American. Nye (1997) explained, Machines are social constructions which Americans long have built into both their narratives and their sense of place (P.39). Technologies are an essential part of American self representation, tourism, and visual sensibility. Americans have also developed machines in their own way and woven them into landscapes, social relations and a sense of history (Nye, 1997). However, Postman (1992) defines a society as a techonopoly ; the culture has its authorization in technology, and finds its approvals and takes its orders from technology. Still, Postman was criticized by David Croteau and William Hoynes (2003), they argued that Postman had underestimated the work of a technology s users. Anyone and noone are in love and that is what matters to them, to be in love with each other and with life. It involves the day, the night, and how the weather changes. The seasons revolve and the children grow up to become adults. As I read the poem I realized there were three sections to it. Which consist of anyone and noone, quot;women and men quot; in line four, and the children. The first stanza is strange the first time you read it. In line thirty three quot;ding and dong quot; I think could be anyone and noone. Death is a part of the poem but the turning point lies in line twenty five, which states: quot;one day anyone died i guess quot;. The main focal point is the uncapitalized quot;i quot;, in analyzing poems I have begun to look at punctuation to tell me something about the author and look more deeply into the poem and it amp;#8217;s meaning. The uncapatilized quot;i quot; gives a detached feeling when you look at the line closely. It seems as though he could be detached because of the death that surrounds this poem, has if does not want to involve himself as much in it. The quot;i quot; could also represent the importance of something, probably love which one of the underlying themes of the poem. The children are still alive until line twenty five. Those held against their will have sought to be free of the constraints imposed upon them by another. However, there were some who were in bondage able to obtain freedom through a process that became known as manumission. Manumission is the liberating of a slave from bondage. It is the formal act of freeing one from slavery. In South Carolina, as with several other states in the Deep South, slaves could be manumitted by one of two ways. Manumission could be given privately by an individual or it could be done officially by state law. Private manumission was rare in most states, and was restricted, but it did happen from time to time. Manumission was not an easy task to accomplish; private manumission in fact was a rare occurrence in most states. Some slaves were freed by the last will and testament of their owners, for faithful service, from masters freeing their slave mistresses and children from their sexual relations, or by some meritorious deed. Attaining freedom in the Deep South by 1810 it was almost impossible to manumit slaves. Most slaves yearned for freedom, but very few obtained it. Those that attained this freedom achieved it through one of three means: manumission, through a last will and testament, or legislative laws. A small number were even able to hire themselves out for pay after the workday for the master ended and earn enough money to buy their freedom. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People make mistakes, but the maturity level of a person is determined by whether or not the person takes responsibility for their errors. The short story The Man Who Was Almost a Man by Richard Wright and the lyric poem Forgive My Guiltby Robert Coffin both fixate on young boys who wrongly take the lives of creatures with a weapon. The short storyand the lyric poem share a common theme regarding the significance of early life experiences to the maturation process as seen in the way the main characters react to their mistakes. Dave in The Man Who was Almost a Man runs away from his problems while the narrator in Forgive My Guilt holds himself accountable for his action and feels guilty. In the short story, The Man Who Was Almost a Man, Richard Wright uses colloquial language to develop the theme. For instance, in the scene where Dave is accused of killing the mule, the difference in speech used by Dave, a black sharecropper, and Jim Hawkins, his white employer, is evident. Jim Hawkins uses a more formal language when talking to Dave: Well, looks like you have you a mule, Dave (5). In stark contrast, Dave responds using a more informal way of speaking: Ah swear fo Gawd, Ah didn t go t kill the mule, Mistah Hawkins (5).
