Summary Of The Simpsons And Their Mathematical Secrets By...
The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets by Simon Singh is a trade book that talks about the
history of The Simpsons and Futurama and how mathematics is embedded into numerous episodes in
each series. Along the way Singh, in addition to the other main writers for The Simpsons, talk about
many of the subtle math jokes that are present. These jokes range from very simple jokes that students
in elementary school could understand to jokes that not even some mathematics professors with
doctorate degrees can decipher. Singh said that everything that happens to us has some effect on us,
and I do suppose that the time I spent in grad school made me a better writer at the end of the book.
He recalls when he was younger and he was working on numerous projects in mathematics. In
addition to being a bright student, he had the ability to make jokes. Eventually, several famous people
in television such as Johnny Carson and David Letterman noticed this and gave him an in in the
entertainment business. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over time, Fox wanted a spin off show and Futurama was born. Futurama extends the jokes that were
used in the Simpsons to a higher dimension. Many of the jokes in Futurama involve sophisticated

topics. The second half of the book focuses on these more advanced topics as portrayed in

The Old Man And The Sea Summary
I. SUBJECT the Old Man and the Sea written by Ernest Hemingway, was taken place in the 1940 s
out in the sea off the coast of Cuba. Hemingway is talking about Santigo s voyage out on the open
water. Santigo is the old man who has a young friend named Manolin who was the only one to go fish
with him. Everyone else even Manolin s parents think that Santigo is salo the worst form of unlucky .
The old man leaves to head out to sea when he tells us that the sea cannot be controlled. After days at
sea he saw dauphins and a bird, since the Santigo is lonely he holds conversations with them and is
just talking to himself. He finally gets a fish on his line and it is the Marlon, this is the fight of Santigo
s life. While he lets the Marlon drag him around the waters, it shows itself when it jumps out of the
water and is 2 feet longer then the skiff. This is the biggest Santigo has ever seen. He finally has the
Marlin worn out and is sad that he must kill this creature. While on his way back sharks attach the
Marlins meat because it s too big to fit in the skiff. Santigo kills 2 hammerhead sharks, but there were
one to many and thy devoured the Marlin. All that was left of the old man s fish was its skeleton. II.
THEME Santigo was the one person out of everyone in the story who deserved to have a wonderful
day. He spent months to catch a large fish and he succeeded by catching the biggest fish he d ever
seen. Working long and hard to achieve what you want doesn t always mean it

CVEN9611 Urban Hydraulic Structures Assignment
Stefan Felder

Garth Cooper
Student Number z3189074 Question 1
Toowoomba City is located 125km from Brisbane in Queensland on the Western side of the Great
Dividing Range. It consists of two main creek catchments, east creek and west creek catchments. In
January 2011 there was a main flooding event which caused a large flood event that is described as an
Inland Tsunami . Figure 1 Catchment map of Toowoomba identifying major hydraulic features. Source
[1]
The factors that contributed to the major storm was:
There was an initial rainfall even of 90mm which occurred over 24 hours before which caused the
catchments to be fully saturated. As a result any major rainfall events would be converted directly into
surface water runoff
Most of the catchments depicted in Figure 1 where fully urbanised which caused surfaces in the
catchment to be impervious; that is very little runoff would infiltrate into the ground
There were intense rainfall events that occurred over the Gowrie creek catchment; with an event
greater than a 100 year ARI storm experienced at the rainfall gauges
Due to the large intensities of rainfalls caused both East and West creeks to fill up. Due to both creeks
flowing in the same direction no drainage could occur to Gworiee creek causing inundation shown in
Appendix Figure 2 Recorded Maximum rainfall intensities and Serveries in Toowoomba, 10

Acute Respiratory Failure
Mechanical ventilation is the treatment for patients who show the sign of acute respiratory failure.
Patients would get acute respiratory distress from inadequate oxygenation or ventilation that
associated with hypoxemia without or with hypercapnia. Mechanical ventilation is used for these
patients based on when the patients partial pressure of oxygen in arterial (PaO2) is less than 50 mm
Hg and partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) greater than 50 mm Hg.1 Under normal condition,
when patients are breathing normal or spontaneous the diaphragm contracts on inhalation, moving
toward the abdomen, and the chest wall expands.1 As one can see breathing through mechanical
ventilation is fundamentally different from normal breathing. Therefore, ... Show more content on

However, as some study suggested, for patients who can breaths spontaneously PC ventilation may
lower the work of breathing (WOB), and improve comfort to a greater extent than VC ventilation.1 7
Therefore, using PCV over VCV can reduce the needed for sedative and neuromuscular blocking
agent. Other than that PCV and VCV can provide equally work for the patients. Consequently, it is up
to the clinician and institutional preference in the selection of PCV versus VCV ventilation. However
each of them has different setting, advantage and disadvantage of

Fluoride Benefits
Chemical filled water? No thank you! It was has been said that New Zealand s water supplies are
100% pure and natural as well as being good for the human body. But this is not the case. This
fluoridated water is affecting all of us right at this moment. That glass of water you just drank is now
affecting important organs within your body. This fluoride is a by product of phosphate which is found
in sources of food, toothpastes and mouthwashes. Is this something you d like to ingest? The benefits
of using fluoride are to protect our teeth against dental diseases. But the negatives outway the
positives.
Some New Zealanders believe that fluoridating our water sources are completely non harmful. It has

Fluoride Free Nz is one of those organisations who are against fluoridating water supplies in New
Zealand. As some are aware, the fluoride added to our water source is hydrofluoric acid which is a by
product of aluminum, steel, cement and phosphate, and is manufactured to make things such as
plastics and toothpaste. From these byproducts, diseases such as, Cancers, Skeletal Fluorosis and
Dental Fluorosis are more likely to occur. There have also been studies that children s IQ s lower over
time. A concern for many New Zealand residents is the fact that the intake of Silicofluoride cannot be
a controlled dosage, due to not knowing how much an individual will drink daily. Of course, the more
intake of fluoride means less is going to be released from the body. In adults, around 40 50% of the
non excreted fluoride remains in the body. Large quantities accumulate in the bone tissue and pineal
gland, affecting movement of an individual. Children excrete even less, with around 80% remaining in
their bones. Knowing this, more New Zealanders are opting to remove fluoride from the water

Reflection On Gender Socialization
Through this gender socialization exercise of analyzing how children learn about gender, provides a
sense of social structures and institutions are organized, created, and maintained in society. After
visiting a department store that separates children s clothes and toys by gender it gave me an eye
opening view how society shapes children s mind of what is acceptable for their own gender, and how
these patterns create an inequality between each group. From this group exercise, there was a obvious
division discussed between the two genders in terms of clothing and toys on a daily basis as these
children grow up with these patterns. It was such a normal thing to see that many overlook and never
really thought about the long terms effects it has on young children. While discussing with my group
about patterns that girls clothing are brighter and bolder in color that incorporate shapes like hearts
with an additional component of glitter and sequins. As for boys, there are limited to minimal pieces
with darker, and neutral colors that are made with better material. Girls toys can be easily spotted in
aisles, covered in pinks and purples; tons of dolls, and disney princesses. Boys had a variety of
vehicles and tools that can be utilized for indoors and outdoor playing. As we further discussed about
each question, I was surprised how much of an inequality there actually is, but society is moving
towards change and is overcoming the gender challenges that one would not necessarily be acceptable
in the past. I learned how much of an impact these social structures are applied at a young age and is
carried throughout as these children grow up with these aspects. Child development is very important
through observations of what is socially acceptable and how these patterns shape who they are as they
become adults. For girls, there are more opportunities to dress up, through the variations of clothing.
As applied to toys, not only girls just have a doll to play with, but accessories that go along with it
such as a doll house, and dress up accessories. Girls develop to become more nurturing and are
encouraged to be indoors, conforming to the stay at home wife that cleans, and has food on the table

good for the country because Ohio can teach other states to stop being prejudice to mixed people. This

have actually gone a quite a bit. Even when Abraham Lincoln removed enslaving people did not like
to make mixed races in their family, but the Keiser s and that is what makes their family amazing. If

racism because all the races can mix and then no one can say anything hurtful or racist to the other. It

and Mr. Walker also walked out of Priceline. In 2001 the company staked a quarterly profit, two years
later ended the car and telephone services; Priceline and Travelweb LLC got an agreement and these

Difference Between Opportunity Cost And Benefit Essay
l. Opportunity cost a benefit that someone could have gotten but gave it up for an alternative route.
Benefit an advantage or profit gained from something. The Difference between these words is that
opportunity cost is deciding a different route instead of the beneficial one that is offered and benefit is
taking that advantage; Opposites. You can figure out of the choice is rational or irrational by looking
up statistics. See what the statistics are on taking out a loan for college and if it will benefit you or if
you should take a separate route. Difference between opportunity cost and benefit, and how these

Formal And Informal Place Setting
Chances are you ve been taught some form of dining etiquette beginning at a young age. You probably
remember your parents telling you, Don t eat with your mouth full, Keep your elbows off of the table,
or Don t play with grandpa s teeth at the dinner table! What you probably didn t realize is your parents
were conditioning you on how to act at the dinner table in social situations, and possibly most
important, in the business world. If you re planning on a career in business, the probability of being
invited to an informal lunch interview or a formal dinner is likely. In the following paragraphs, I will
describe the differences between a formal and informal place setting, and explain some of the do s and
do not s of proper dining etiquette in a business setting. First of all, arrive to the dinner on time,
always dress for the occasion, and remember the host is in charge. If seating is assigned, look for the
place card with your name on it. The place card is typically located at the center of the dinner plate, or
just above it on the table. If there are no place cards, wait for the host to direct you to your assigned
seat. Let the host sit down before you unless they tell you to first. Once seated, pick up your napkin,
fold it in half, and lay it across your lap. Make sure the napkin fold is away from you so when you use
it any crumbs on the napkin will fall to the floor and not on you. Second, take notice of the place
setting. It s a good indicator whether the dinner

Database Mangement and Retrieval System
Question 1.
Differentiate between database management system and information retrieval system by focusing on
their functionalities.
Database Management System (as known as DBMS) is a set of application that enable user to create,
edit, update, store and retrieve data from database files. By using DBMS, data in a database can be
added, deleted, changed, sorted and searched. DBMSs are usually used to manage employee
information of a big company, customer information and stock information. By using the DBMS,
there are advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of a DBMS is the same information can be

In information retrieval concept, metadiator is the one who helps to support the interaction between
the user and the information resource.
There are two main approaches to IR, which are statistical approach and semantic approach. In a
statistical approach, documents are analyzed and broken down into chunks of text and each word or
phrase is counted, weighted, and measured for relevance or importance. Meanwhile, semantic
approaches to IR use knowledge based techniques of retrieval the broadly rely on the syntactic,
lexical, sentential, discourse based, and pragmatic levels of knowledge understanding. In practice,
semantic approaches also apply some form of statistical analysis to improve the retrieval process.
Question 2.
Highlight the differences between data and information.
Data and information are related. Once data is processed, it calls information. But data is raw, plain
and unprocessed item and need to be processed. Data itself is useless until it is organized. Meanwhile,
information is a collection of data after it process. Generally, there are three main differences between
data and information such as their meaning, example and definition.
In the context of meaning, data is something plain, raw, unorganized facts that need to process to be
meaningful while information is a collection of many data that is meaningful to the user. For example,

Resting Membrane Potential Of Orconectes Lab Report
This experiment seeks to analyze how the resting membrane potential of Orconectes rusticus muscle
cells changes in response to increasing [K+]o solution concentrations. By recording the intracellular
voltage of the DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle cells at six concentrations of [K+]o solution,
we determined whether the observed resting membrane potentials (Vrest) were significantly different
from the predicted Nernst equilibrium potential values. We hypothesized that the Vrest of the crayfish
muscles at each concentration would not significantly differ from the Nernst potential, which solely
considers the permeability of potassium ions to the cell membrane. However, our findings suggested
differently, and results indicated that the Nernst equation did not accurately predict the obtained values
of the resting membrane potential. The differences in muscle cell Vrest reveal instead that the
membrane is differentially permeable to other ions. I. Introduction: ... Show more content on

Both electrical and chemical forces combine to determine the resting membrane potential of the cell.
Although the resting membrane potential of most cells is normally negative, the selective permeability
of the membrane allows certain ions in and out, causing the neuronal membrane voltage to become
depolarized (more positive), or hyperpolarized (more negative). Key ions involved in muscle
membrane potential are sodium, potassium, and chloride, which move via passive or active diffusion
through ion channels and transporter pumps (Baierlein et al. 2011). The Nernst equation predicts the
membrane voltage based on the assumption that the membrane is only permeable to one type of ion.
In this investigation, we are seeking to understand the basis for how different ions interact to produce
the membrane potential of DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle

Washington Irving and Romanticism Essays
The short stories of Washington Irving are examples of the literary movement of Romanticism and its
characteristics which are evidenced in this author s works. These characteristics are sometimes found
in abundant quantities or limited amounts in each of his short stories. However, no matter what short
story Washington Irving wrote, the Age of Romanticism and its defining characteristics are found in
each of his selections. So, too, do each of the author s short stories present a unique study about the
author s intentions for creating his work. In Washington Irving s selection The Three Kings of

Romanticism as a conviction that intuition, imagination, and emotion are inferior to reason is often
thought as the best known characteristic. It was used to show the human abilities and the source for
the subjects. This helps us to understand the world around us and also how we take part in it.
Emotions were thought to be one of the main factors in place of logic and reason. People looked to
making music often to express feelings that were being felt. Washington s tone helps to convey the
emotion in this story. Washington changes the tone throughout the story to help the reader better
understand the emotion of this short story. He is a true enchanter, Irving states, whose spell operates
not only upon the sense, but upon the imagination and the heart. When they are stranded he uses tone
showing that they were happy and felt a sort of power that they were the kings of this island. Then he
changes it to anger and a fight for the ambergris when they discovered it. When the ambergris is taken
away from them by the new landowners, he shows the emotion of disappointment. The quote, All
kingdoms, however, are doomed to revolution, conclusion, or decay; and so it fared with the empire of
the three kings of Bermuda. is a powerful quote showing the emotion in Irving s tone. Romanticism as
a conviction that poetry is superior to science is a common characteristic because of the growing
popularity of poetry at the time. Many times the meaning

Essay on Antigone Is a Tragedy by Aristotle s Rules
What are Aristotle s five rules that are necessary to a tragedy? The play Antigone by Sophocles is
considered a tragedy. There are five rules created by Aristotle that classify a tragedy. All plays must
have catharsis, a tragic hero, a change in fortune within a character, must be poetic, and happen in one
location, in one day, and it is all closely related. Two main characters are the king Creon and a girl
named Antigone. Antigone is a tragedy because it exhibits and follows all five of Aristotle s rules. The

Catharsis is a big part of Antigone and also Greek tragedy. When you want to have a play that is a

The tragic hero in Antigone is Creon, the king. Creon is of high social standing because he is the king
of Thebes. His major tragic flaw is he is arrogant.

making himself look like he is taking charge and punishing Antigone harshly. He is trying to amplify
what he plans to do to Antigone. He is being too proud. In reality, though, he did not do these things to
the degree he boasts about to Antigone. Creon makes it seem that he is cruel, but he really is not as
cruel as he appears. Another time, the prophet is calling Creon out.

The Case Of Somaliland
The strain between the privilege to outer self determination and regional respectability in Africa:
Somaliland as a case study
1. Research background : The case of Somaliland
The populace of Somaliland are enduring because of the inconsistencies of self determination and
regional integrity. On 26 June 1960, Somaliland gained its independence from Britain following 80
years of colonization with the name, the British Protectorate of Somaliland. After 5 days of
independence, Somaliland united with Somalia or the Italian Protectorate , which took her
independence from Italy on 1 July 1960.During these 5 days, Somaliland was perceived as a free state.
For reasons clarified beneath, Somaliland involved its sway and united with Somalia with the
condition that the two countries make a more suitable state based on equivalent equity of riches and
power sharing. This did not happen and the ambitions of the people of Somaliland got to be
unbeneficial. A wide range of human rights outrages were submitted in Somaliland by the military
administration that crumpled in 1991. Due to the mal treatment, which they met because of the

Andrew Carnegie introduced manufacturing and administrative innovations to the steel industry,
dramatically increasing the efficiency of steel production; this stimulated the growth of American
industry, creating new jobs and aiding working class Americans. In order to manufacture steel more
prolifically, Carnegie introduced the Bessemer process to the American steel industry. This process
allowed pig iron to be converted to steel far more efficiently than prior methods had, and as a result,
the price of steel dropped more than seventy percent (Carnegie, Andrew. The Empire...233). Because
the Bessemer process eased the manufacture of steel, the cost of steel production decreased;
consequently, buying steel was not as expensive as it had previously

How Does Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Create Suspense in His...
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a British physician and writer, mostly well known for his stories Sherlock
Holmes , which are generally in the field of crime fiction. He was a prolific writer whose other works
include science fiction stories, historical novels, plays and romances, poetry, and non fiction.
In the following paragraphs I will be talking about the three stories Red Headed League , Silver Blaze
and scandal in Bohemia .
The story Scandal in Bohemia starts of very odd, To Sherlock Holmes, she is always the woman . This
has already given the reader a hint of suspense as it is something unusual. It was always thought that
Holmes had no feelings and no emotions for anyone, but according to this opening the above phrase is

Here the horse shoe was given to Holmes, but the reader did not know that it will be in great use, but
Doyle gives hints in the story, which he eventually pieces together, as well as the reader.
Another way Doyle creates suspense in his stories is that he makes deliberate culprits that seem
suspicious; straight away the readers will think they have found whoever Holmes is looking for, but in
the end the story is twisted around and the real offender is found the total opposite to what the reader
was probably thinking. In Silver Blaze, to everyone it seems as if Fitzroy Simpson was the culprit but
everyone soon found out that it was the actual horse Silver Blaze . No one would have even thought of
it to be the horse, so this one of the main ways suspense is created. Also it has the readers guessing
who the actual criminal is.
The story is told by Watson, not Holmes. Watson is never likely to be at the same thinking level as
Holmes. There are some parts which are kept secret from us, things that Watson does not know, the
reader also does not know. Holmes leaned forward and whispered something in the trainer s ear . Here
Holmes whispers something, so clearly he wants to keep it a secret from Watson. This keeps the reader
guessing what Holmes might have said; hence it creates suspense as well as tension. However there
are times when Watson is great help to Holmes, in Silver Blaze, when Holmes

Similarities Between Jamestown And Plymouth Colonies
Coming to America, many different groups of people had a hard time migrating here and trying to
survive. Although many came well equipped for the hard journey, being new to the land made it
harder for them to build colonies and thrive. This is because they came across many unexpected
hardships that they were not prepared for mentally and physically. In this essay, I will talk about two
different groups that migrated to America and how they adjusted to the new land and the new way of
life. The colonies of Jamestown and Plymouth Plantation both had many similarities and a few
differences when they came to America in the journey to build more and more colonies. When
Jamestown had decided to set sail to make colonies in America, John Smith ... Show more content on

new things. Although he was liked and was able to sustain himself, he knew he had to go back to his

was gone. They continued to lack food and the system they had as a government was falling apart. So
they all came to the conclusion that Smith should be elected president because he had learned from the
tribe how to set up and run an efficient government. Although Smith was very strict with the colonists,
by being so, the colony was able to get back on their feet and thrive. Later on as time passed, Smith
was injured and had to return to England. Of the 214 colonists that arrived in America, only 60
survived. The Pilgrims voyaged to America around 1602 and they were off to a bad start when it came
to colonize the new land. A while after the Pilgrims had landed in America, they decided to make
William Bradford the governor of their new government, which he continued on out for the rest of his
life. Throughout the time that the Pilgrims were in America, they suffered many deaths that were not
expected to occur. Many important people to the government had died due to lack of supplies. The

Primates and Evolution
Primates are animals and to be precise mammals. Primates have a very diverse group and this
means that not all species share the same suit of traits. They have various characteristics such as
hands that can grasp things, large brains, and a high degree of learned rather than innate
behavior, and other numerous traits. Humans are also considered to be primates. The order
Primate is divided into two main suborders and these are the Strepsirhini and Haplorhini.
Strepsirhni includes primates such as lemurs, lorises, and galagoes. On the other hand,
Haplorhini include primates like monkeys, tarsiers, apes, and humans.
The Social Behavior and Structure of Primates
Humans are products of the same evolutionary forces that have produced other species and they
can be expected to exhibit the same behavioral patterns seen in other primates. Even though most
aspects of cultural and social life are uniquely human, the same has been found to be happening
to other non human primates. The only difference between human and non human primates is
that humans have increased brain size as well as learning capacities and this makes them express
many characteristics to a greater degree and culture as well as social life is one of those
characteristics. Cultural and social behavior is not learned and not genetically acquired or
determined even though sometimes it the capacity to learn something is genetically

Elisa Allen, of The Chrysanthemums, had an emptiness within herself that she could never expose to

Racial Stereyping In Mexicans Begin Jogging
Racial Stereoyping
How do you escape a racial stereotype? Soto has Mexican heritage and has lived in the U.S. as a legal
immigrant working in a factory. In the poem Mexicans Begin Jogging , the author shows Marxism
through Soto s stereotype as an illegal immigrant because he is Hispanic and works in a factory. Soto
is trapped between his Mexican heritage and his American culture and doesn t know how to deal with
this problem; he is stuck in this predicament where he is a Mexican at heart, but has an American
upbringing. In Mexican s Begin Jogging , Soto describes a personal situation he was once in when he
was working at a factory that employed illegal Mexican immigrants. He gives us insight into the
environment he begrudgingly worked in due to his Mexican heritage. Many of the conditions at the
factory Soto worked at were less than manageable; one was the thick smell of burning rubber filling
the factory making it very hard to work. The description Soto gave was the fleck of rubber, under the
press of an oven yellow with flame ( Mexicans Begin Jogging ), which sounds almost unbearable to
deal with. Nevertheless, the predicament that Soto was in was not because of border patrol, it was
because of the stereotype people had placed on him. This magnifies the implication that the racial
stereotypes had on Soto, because of the stereotyping; Hispanics are associated with undocumented
residents. When the border patrol learned of this news they infiltrated the plant. Soto s

Progression Of Images And Leitmotif By Carol Ann Duffy
Progression of images/leitmotifs: Duffy establishes light and body parts as the leitmotifs in the poem
to illustrate the joy in motherhood, when a mother can watch her child grow up. The speaker
associates the daughter as a Light gatherer who held a candleworth, glowed in the speaker s hand, and
mirrored the soft lamp, which creates the light imagery. Light drives out darkness which has
connotations of sadness and evilness while light has the connotations of innocence and purity. Light is
also associated with the sun, which the speaker then illustrates that her child is the center of her world,
in which everything else revolves around her child. Light imagery is constant throughout the poem,
demonstrating that the child is a constant brightness and cheerfulness in the speaker s view. Body parts

Duffy exaggerates the child s kissed feet glowed as a hyperbole to provide the sense of service for
glorification of the child, demonstrating the speaker s willingness to provide everything the child
needs. Language glittered like a river compares language to a river, explaining how the child had no
difficulty speaking because a river flows smoothly. The simile supports the adolescent stage of the
cycle of life because the child is learning communication skills, which marks the beginning of
independence from the parent as the child no longer relies on the parent as much as in the stage of
infancy. The w alliteration in with, whole, where, and watching creates soft and pleasant sounds that
supports the tenderness of the speaker s tone as though the speaker is lulling the child to sleep. The
tender care for the child showcases a mother s unconditional love that supports the child s

The Jungle And Fast Food Nation Rhetorical Analysis
Relevant literature usually addresses real life situations, bringing light to serious issues. Most of the
time, an author will write in hopes to influence others to believe a certain way. Authors must strategize
to master the art of persuasion. There are multiple appeals a writer may use in order to get their point
across to the audience. The Jungle and Fast Food Nation use ethos, pathos, and logos in efforts to gain
support towards their purpose of improving the work conditions and quality of life for immigrants. In
order to convince an audience through an ethical appeal, a writer would use ethos. Ethos places an
emphasis on the credibility of the source. In The Jungle Upton Sinclair writes, In the beginning he had
been fresh and strong, and he had gotten a job the first day, but now he was second hand, a damaged
article... (Sinclair 90). Jurgis, Sinclair s character, goes from adoring capitalism to despising it. Since
he proves to be open minded, his feelings seem less biased. Once the reader observes the vicious cycle
Jurgis endures, it becomes difficult to make an argument against him. In Fast Food Nation Schlosser
states, We are human beings, more than one person told me, but they treat us like animals (Schlosser
169). Instead of just using a single source, Schlosser uses numerous. The fact that the author is
collecting stories from several different people makes the account more believable. When an author is

1.3 The Present Debt Crisis The Past 5 Years (Greece in the Eurozone)
Greece has suffered through a vicious circle of recession over the past five years. The Greek economy
experienced a series of successive setbacks during this period. Since 2010, the Greek economy
contracted more than 20%. The investment level decreased by 86 % as compared to 2008 (IMF,
2013b). The continuous drop in GDP, which in 2011 surpassed the historical maximum for the entire
postwar period, led to a rapid decline in domestic demand. Unemployment more than doubled within
the first three years of austerity reaching 25.4% in August 2012. More than half the population
between 15 24 years of age or 57%, is unemployed (Eurostat, 2012), homelessness increased by 25%
from 2009 to 2011 as suicide rates hit record levels, increasing 25% from 2009 2010 and an additional
40% from 2010 2011 (Reynolds, 2015). In early 2014, unemployment exceeded 28%; youth
unemployment rose to 63%, which led young, educated people to emigrate in large numbers (Visvizi,
2014). Greece s uncertain future remains a troubling predicament on the periphery of the European
Union.

Analysis Of The Movie Spike Lee
Spike Lee is an Afro American director who has developed more fame and importance in the last 20
years. He portrays his stories in a way that nothing is fictitious and many of them are written about
some real events. Lee has co produced many of his films and has acted in some small roles within
them. According to IMDb (2016), Lee s work consists of: 26 films, 30 television programs, 45
commercials, 15 short films, starred in several films, and was a producer and writer of many other
works. Although, his films are somewhat irregular in terms of color palettes, shots, and exposition.
Regarding the plot, he is considered a drama director. Also, his works always emphasize action and
occasionally comedy.
Based on all the above, Lee s career will be analyzed from his early work in the film industry, his
career, and some of his most notable and recognized works.
For example, in many of the films I have seen so far, Spike Lee tends to substantiate his works in
many cultural, social, and political problems: besides the racism suffered by many African Americans
in the United States mainly. Lee became a director of promise with his first long film, She has to have
it (1986), according to McGowan (2014). This film was shot in around two weeks and cost around
$175,000 to make, but grossed more than $7 million, becoming in one of the most profitable films
created in 1986. Lee often takes a critical look at race relations, political problems, crime, and
violence. His film Do the

Hedging Currency Risk at Aifs
Summary
AIFS is an American based company that offers travel abroad and exchange study services to both
college and high school students. While AIFS s revenues are denominated in American Dollars
(USD), most of their costs are in foreign currencies as Euros (EUR) and British Pounds (GBP).
Consequently, foreign exchange hedging has a crucial importance for the company because it provides
protection against different types of risk that derive from its activity.
In order to reduce risk, the company is using two hedging derivatives: forward contracts and put
options to sell dollars. The aim of the paper is to determine an appropriate hedging policy which
answers two main questions: how much to hedge, and in what proportions of forwards ... Show more

Then, we took into consideration only a fluctuation of the exchange rate. The scenarios that we
analyzed covers different positions of the dollar against the euro: weak dollar (USD 1,48/EUR), stable
dollar (USD 1,22/EUR) and strong dollar (USD 1,01/EUR). Different coverage of costs with hedging
was also introduced in the analysis. The three main policies are of not hedging, 100% hedging with
forward contracts and 100% hedging with options.
All the future computations are in comparison with the impact zero scenario of a rate of USD
1,22/EUR and a volume of 25 000 sales. (Exhibit 2)
If the company chooses not to hedge the costs, and the dollar weakens against the euro reaching a rate
of USD 1,48/EUR, then it will encounter losses of $6,500,000 (Exhibit 1). On the other hand, if the
dollar strengthens to the level of USD 1,01/EUR, then the company will register a gain of $5,250,000.
(Exhibit 3)
But, even though the possibility of winning exists, the company is exposed to a greater risk if it does
not hedge. Moreover, the policy of the company is to ensure against the risk, not to speculate on the
foreign exchange market.
Exhibit 7 from the case study describes the currency development in medium term of the GBP and
EURO against the dollar. We can observe that the currencies are exposed to high volatility, which
means the company may register greater risk

A Rose For Emily Grierson Character Changes
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily many aspects of theme are discussed and the way he portrays
the themes are different. By using detailed character traits, Faulkner depicts people in the short story A
Rose for Emily. Faulkner is able to show that characters such as Emily Grierson has been dominated
by an abusive father and have no control over the ideas of time or death. Emily is a character who is
crippled with fear, lacking the courage to live because of the control and dominance of her father.
Emily is such a multifaceted character that she could bear extreme segregation and scrutiny. This
extreme segregation and neglect are directly traced to her father and his complete dominance in her

Her appearance reflects the events of the story. Emily s physical appearance changes every time
someone leaves or dies in her life. Her bodies appearance is a physical sign of how even though her
father has passes his abusive attitude is still evident in her life. The title A Rose for Emily gives the
indication that Emily has an issue with time or being in denial about time s progression. Faulkner
writes that the men in attendance to Emily s funeral have confused time with mathematical
progression. He uses a metaphor that time is usually seen as a diminishing road but it is rather a huge
meadow which nothing can touch. The characters that attend Emily s funeral give a major aspect of
what theme Faulkner is depicting. The denial of time or time s progression is linked to her father
crippling Emily through abuse making her unable to be independent, forcing her to live her life under
the utter influence and control of himself. Emily s issue with time is directly connected to her other
problem of accepting death. This issue in Emily s life is also a stem from her fathers devastating
abuse. Emily, solely dependent upon her father because of the mistreatment, abuse, and absolute

The Achievements Of A Hero In Gilgamesh And The Odyssey
In Gilgamesh and The Odyssey, the authors describe the achievements of a hero during a particular
period of time. Despite being written thousands of years apart, Homer presented the importance of
perseverance and loyalty because he wanted to show how strong willed people are in returning home
safely to stay with their loved ones. Both Gilgamesh and Odysseus developed a strong desire to search
for the true meaning of life because it arouses their curiosity. These stories focuses primarily on the
protagonists going through the transition to maturity due to a series of events. The literary techniques
that both authors used reveals two separate intentions and different conclusions. While Mitchell uses
symbolism to show how Gilgamesh evolve into a true epic hero, Homer uses imagery to portray how
Odysseus changes for the better during his journey. One similarity between the books is that both
characters are extremely prideful. The arrival of Endiku had a major impact on Gilgamesh because he
never saw anyone who was as strong as him. From the moment they became friends, Gilgamesh
always had an urge to go on adventures with him because he wanted to test his strength and loyalty.
One day, Gilgamesh points out that, Now we must travel to the Cedar Forest, where the fierce monster
Humbaba lives. We must kill him and drive out evil from the world. (Mitchell, pg.91). Endiku
responds with disagreement because he argued that they stand no chance against the strong and

decline in the percentage of sales in the year 2007, which suggests that the Samsung will need to
rethink this strategy. There is an urgent need to optimize the cost related to Samsung s R amp;D
expenditure to prevent the decline of sales in future. Samsung globalized their R amp;D network
worldwide to develop technologies which can be commercialized in the future. Basically the main
idea behind the globalization of R amp;D network is to: * Focus on innovation and generating new
products for global market. * There is a huge scope of product improvement. * This provides an
access to the emerging markets. * Leverages the market opportunity for the firm. User Centric Design
Philosophy Samsung s philosophy was to strike the balance between the reasons and feelings. This
was done by them with the rationalization of the design of product by using geometric and
technological parameters and enhancing the

Bill 2 Reflection
The two bills I chose were bill 2 and bill 5. These bills were a resolution to create a demilitarized zone
the South China Sea (bill 2) and a bill to create an Indian free trade agreement (bill 5). The speeches I
wrote were both positive and bill 2 was won by the Republicans, which is the group I was with. I also
believe bill 5 would have been won too, but that bill was never called upon. The South China Sea is
worth 5.3 trillion dollars. This is enough for China to threaten military action for claim over the wealth
(Fensom). How important is this body of water? The South China Sea is very valuable. Most of its
wealth is within trade, islands, and oil. Many global sea routes connect in the South China Sea, giving
it the nickname the throat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found myself agreeing with every bill that was voted on for the Republican side. However, there
were some bills I did not agree with. For example, bill 1 I would have had to vote no, against the
Republican party, because I do not agree with a bill to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences. The
bills that were brought up for discussion happened to work out to where I agree with, and voted on,
the Republican side.
The hardest part about Mock Congress was getting in front of the class and saying my speech. I am
not very good at speaking, making it hard to fluently give an entire speech in front of a crowd. The
easiest part about Mock Congress was probably listening and voting on other bills. The part I enjoyed
the most was listening and debating on the bills brought up in class. I enjoyed this because I found it
to be fun and interesting. The part I enjoyed least would definitely been giving my speech in front of
the class.
I do not really have any one person in mind for the best congressman/woman. If I had to choose, I
would pick Alex Hudson. I am choosing him because he was very active during the duration of Mock
Congress. He brought up several good points, along with asking good questions. Alex also seemed the
most prepared on him speech, being that he had all the facts he needed for his speech memorized and
did not need and

The Life Of Eleanor Roosevelt Essay
The Life of Eleanor Roosevelt Compared to Jill Petrasek Eleanor Roosevelt was a remarkable woman
who was incomparable because of how much she had wanted to change the world. She had helped
society take action by fighting for equality between all women and men, blacks and white, and many
more things that she had believed in. Eleanor Roosevelt had a hard life when growing up due to the
fact that his mom had died when Eleanor was at young age (Ellwood 6). This had made her have to
move in with her grandparents, which meant that it would be harder to keep in contact with her father
because he was not with her (Ellwood 6). Eleanor and her father were still able to keep in contact due
to the fact that they wrote letters to each other frequently (Ellwood 6). This in fact had helped Eleaner
to grow due to the fact that her dad had told her to work hard, and be instructable to the outside world.
The letters had halted at the age of ten because her father had passed away (Ellwood 6). The fact that
her dad had passed away made her feel like she had no one to talk to which made her feel lonely
(Ellwood 6). After Eleanor s father s passing she became sheepish and reserved to the outside world
until she had meet a teacher by the name of Ms. Souvestre who showed her to be confident and how
smart she really was (Ellwood 9). Souvestre had also advised Eleanor to always say what was on her
mind and stand up for what was right and what she believed even if there were extreme

Fear this shirk as it is more hidden than a crawling ant.
Abdullah ibn Hazm and Qays bin al Madaarib both stood and said, By Allah! You should clarify what
you have said, otherwise we shall bring Umar with authority on our behalf or without it .
He then said, Rather I will explain to you what I said. Allaah s Messenger (saw) addressed us one day
and said,
O People! Fear this shirk as it is more hidden than a crawling ant. Then someone whom Allaah had
willed to speak said:
And how shall we save ourselves from it when it is more hidden than a crawling ant, O Messenger of
Allaah? .
He said, Say Allahumma inni a`udhu bika an ushrika bika wa ana a`lamu wa astaghfiruka lima la
a`lamu
[O Allah I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You, and I seek Your
forgiveness for that which I do not know].
Making fun of Islam or sunnah: some people of our society making for of same aspects of sunnah,
such as making fun of beard, clothes and other things that are the part of Sunnah, Sunnah means those
types of acts and actions performed by our beloved Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) (The messenger of Allah)
and who ever make fun of Sunnah will not be a

Probation Lawyer Case
When you are forced to face a grim legal consequence which may involve jail term, probation or fines,
you can t afford to go about handling your legal condition without the services of a Cincinnati
criminal defense lawyer. You need to get the services of a lawyer who has the knowledge, experience
and the reputation to handle your case with the prosecutors, judges and courts. As soon as a person is
released from jail on signature and cash bond, he must immediately prepare for his defense. The best
way to prepare for the case is for the person to hire a qualified criminal defense attorney as soon as
possible. The sooner you avail for the services of one the better for your chances at successful defense.
In cases where you are still under investigation

Advantages And Disadvantages Of International Commercial...
5.1 Critical Analysis
International commercial arbitration has evolved, primarily, against the background of two unifying
international traditions: the private international legal tradition, directed at the harmonization of laws;
and the public international law tradition, committed to reducing global barriers to trade. International
Commercial arbitration is the most widely used tool for resolution of trade or commercial disputes.
The effort should be made to tackle the problems which will benefit commercial transaction activities.
Most of the domestic courts were very slow in dealing with Arbitration cases. Therefore, parties now
resort to Arbitration in order to avoid lengthy and complex litigation procedure.
The Study findings revealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A practical solution to avoid this issue is to include an Immunity Waiver Clause in the arbitration
agreement. States are generally not comfortable with this clause; however, this puts an obligation on
the state to not use this as a defence during enforcement of awards. Once any State agrees to
arbitration, it is an assumed principle that the State has waived its Sovereign Immunity. Under
International Conventions like New York Convention, if the state enters into an agreement, it is treated
as if the State has waived its Immunity and can be taken up as strong evidence against the State. The
situation is difficult as national courts (dealing with enforcement of awards) refuse to build up special
rules and regulations for the enforcement of arbitral awards and they are guided by the principles
applicable in judicial proceedings . Therefore it is probable on some occasions for litigants to conquer
the hindrance that are present while enforcing an award against

Congruent Communication In The Classroom
Haim Ginott
Focuses on how adults can build the self concepts of children, especially emphasizing that adults
should avoid attacks on the child s character and instead focus on the situation or actions.
Finding effective alternatives to punishment.
Effective classroom management is dependent on the manner the teacher interacts with the students.
Teachers should maintain a secure, humanitarian, and productive classroom through the use of
congruent communication and appropriate use of praise.
Congruent communication essentially means to match the students feelings towards a certain situation
or current feelings about themselves.
A variety of ways a teacher can express congruent communication:
Deliver sane messages
Addresses the situation, not how the student handled the situation.
Express anger appropriately
Rather than go on a rampage telling the student how annoying they are or something wrong that they
did, walk the student(s) through your frustrations. For example, instead of saying, You are so
irresponsible when you... simply say, It makes me angry when you... .
Invite cooperation
Allow students to demonstrate their independence. For example, rather than selecting the seating chart
let the students pick; or an example we talked about in class, include the students in creating the
classroom rules.
Accept and acknowledge student feelings
Be someone that they can go to express their feelings. Walk the student(s) through their emotions and
validate what they

It consists of two main creek catchments, east creek and west creek catchments. In January 2011 there was a main flooding event which caused a large flood event that is described as an Inland Tsunami . Figure 1 Catchment map of Toowoomba identifying major hydraulic features. • 7. Reflection On Gender Socialization Through this gender socialization exercise of analyzing how children learn about gender, provides a sense of social structures and institutions are organized, created, and maintained in society. After visiting a department store that separates children s clothes and toys by gender it gave me an eye opening view how society shapes children s mind of what is acceptable for their own gender, and how these patterns create an inequality between each group. From this group exercise, there was a obvious division discussed between the two genders in terms of clothing and toys on a daily basis as these children grow up with these patterns. It was such a normal thing to see that many overlook and never really thought about the long terms effects it has on young children. While discussing with my group about patterns that girls clothing are brighter and bolder in color that incorporate shapes like hearts with an additional component of glitter and sequins. As for boys, there are limited to minimal pieces with darker, and neutral colors that are made with better material. Girls toys can be easily spotted in aisles, covered in pinks and purples; tons of dolls, and disney princesses. Boys had a variety of vehicles and tools that can be utilized for indoors and outdoor playing. As we further discussed about each question, I was surprised how much of an inequality there actually is, but society is moving towards change and is overcoming the gender challenges that one would not necessarily be acceptable in the past. I learned how much of an impact these social structures are applied at a young age and is carried throughout as these children grow up with these aspects. Child development is very important through observations of what is socially acceptable and how these patterns shape who they are as they become adults. For girls, there are more opportunities to dress up, through the variations of clothing. As applied to toys, not only girls just have a doll to play with, but accessories that go along with it such as a doll house, and dress up accessories. Girls develop to become more nurturing and are encouraged to be indoors, conforming to the stay at home wife that cleans, and has food on the table when the husband ... What you probably didn t realize is your parents were conditioning you on how to act at the dinner table in social situations, and possibly most important, in the business world. If you re planning on a career in business, the probability of being invited to an informal lunch interview or a formal dinner is likely. In the following paragraphs, I will describe the differences between a formal and informal place setting, and explain some of the do s and do not s of proper dining etiquette in a business setting. First of all, arrive to the dinner on time, always dress for the occasion, and remember the host is in charge. If seating is assigned, look for the place card with your name on it. The place card is typically located at the center of the dinner plate, or just above it on the table. If there are no place cards, wait for the host to direct you to your assigned seat. Let the host sit down before you unless they tell you to first. Once seated, pick up your napkin, fold it in half, and lay it across your lap. Make sure the napkin fold is away from you so when you use it any crumbs on the napkin will fall to the floor and not on you. Second, take notice of the place setting. Meanwhile, semantic approaches to IR use knowledge based techniques of retrieval the broadly rely on the syntactic, lexical, sentential, discourse based, and pragmatic levels of knowledge understanding. • 13. Resting Membrane Potential Of Orconectes Lab Report This experiment seeks to analyze how the resting membrane potential of Orconectes rusticus muscle cells changes in response to increasing [K+]o solution concentrations. By recording the intracellular voltage of the DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle cells at six concentrations of [K+]o solution, we determined whether the observed resting membrane potentials (Vrest) were significantly different from the predicted Nernst equilibrium potential values. We hypothesized that the Vrest of the crayfish muscles at each concentration would not significantly differ from the Nernst potential, which solely considers the permeability of potassium ions to the cell membrane. However, our findings suggested differently, and results indicated that the Nernst equation did not accurately predict the obtained values of the resting membrane potential. The differences in muscle cell Vrest reveal instead that the membrane is differentially permeable to other ions. I. Introduction: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both electrical and chemical forces combine to determine the resting membrane potential of the cell. Although the resting membrane potential of most cells is normally negative, the selective permeability of the membrane allows certain ions in and out, causing the neuronal membrane voltage to become depolarized (more positive), or hyperpolarized (more negative). Key ions involved in muscle membrane potential are sodium, potassium, and chloride, which move via passive or active diffusion through ion channels and transporter pumps (Baierlein et al. 2011). The Nernst equation predicts the membrane voltage based on the assumption that the membrane is only permeable to one type of ion. In this investigation, we are seeking to understand the basis for how different ions interact to produce the membrane potential of DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle ... Emotions were thought to be one of the main factors in place of logic and reason. People looked to making music often to express feelings that were being felt. Washington s tone helps to convey the emotion in this story. Washington changes the tone throughout the story to help the reader better understand the emotion of this short story. He is a true enchanter, Irving states, whose spell operates not only upon the sense, but upon the imagination and the heart. When they are stranded he uses tone showing that they were happy and felt a sort of power that they were the kings of this island. Then he changes it to anger and a fight for the ambergris when they discovered it. When the ambergris is taken away from them by the new landowners, he shows the emotion of disappointment. The quote, All kingdoms, however, are doomed to revolution, conclusion, or decay; and so it fared with the empire of the three kings of Bermuda. is a powerful quote showing the emotion in Irving s tone. Andrew Carnegie introduced manufacturing and administrative innovations to the steel industry, dramatically increasing the efficiency of steel production; this stimulated the growth of American industry, creating new jobs and aiding working class Americans. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a British physician and writer, mostly well known for his stories Sherlock Holmes , which are generally in the field of crime fiction. He was a prolific writer whose other works include science fiction stories, historical novels, plays and romances, poetry, and non fiction. In the following paragraphs I will be talking about the three stories Red Headed League , Silver Blaze and scandal in Bohemia . The story Scandal in Bohemia starts of very odd, To Sherlock Holmes, she is always the woman . This has already given the reader a hint of suspense as it is something unusual. Here the horse shoe was given to Holmes, but the reader did not know that it will be in great use, but Doyle gives hints in the story, which he eventually pieces together, as well as the reader. Another way Doyle creates suspense in his stories is that he makes deliberate culprits that seem suspicious; straight away the readers will think they have found whoever Holmes is looking for, but in the end the story is twisted around and the real offender is found the total opposite to what the reader was probably thinking. In Silver Blaze, to everyone it seems as if Fitzroy Simpson was the culprit but everyone soon found out that it was the actual horse Silver Blaze . No one would have even thought of it to be the horse, so this one of the main ways suspense is created. Also it has the readers guessing who the actual criminal is. The story is told by Watson, not Holmes. Watson is never likely to be at the same thinking level as Holmes. There are some parts which are kept secret from us, things that Watson does not know, the reader also does not know. Holmes leaned forward and whispered something in the trainer s ear . Here Holmes whispers something, so clearly he wants to keep it a secret from Watson. This keeps the reader guessing what Holmes might have said; hence it creates suspense as well as tension. Primates have a very diverse group and this means that not all species share the same suit of traits. They have various characteristics such as hands that can grasp things, large brains, and a high degree of learned rather than innate behavior, and other numerous traits. Humans are also considered to be primates. The order Primate is divided into two main suborders and these are the Strepsirhini and Haplorhini. Strepsirhni includes primates such as lemurs, lorises, and galagoes. On the other hand, Haplorhini include primates like monkeys, tarsiers, apes, and humans. The Social Behavior and Structure of Primates Humans are products of the same evolutionary forces that have produced other species and they can be expected to exhibit the same behavioral patterns seen in other primates. Even though most aspects of cultural and social life are uniquely human, the same has been found to be happening to other non human primates. The only difference between human and non human primates is that humans have increased brain size as well as learning capacities and this makes them express many characteristics to a greater degree and culture as well as social life is one of those characteristics. Soto has Mexican heritage and has lived in the U.S. as a legal immigrant working in a factory. In the poem Mexicans Begin Jogging , the author shows Marxism through Soto s stereotype as an illegal immigrant because he is Hispanic and works in a factory. Soto is trapped between his Mexican heritage and his American culture and doesn t know how to deal with this problem; he is stuck in this predicament where he is a Mexican at heart, but has an American upbringing. In Mexican s Begin Jogging , Soto describes a personal situation he was once in when he was working at a factory that employed illegal Mexican immigrants. He gives us insight into the environment he begrudgingly worked in due to his Mexican heritage. Many of the conditions at the factory Soto worked at were less than manageable; one was the thick smell of burning rubber filling the factory making it very hard to work. The description Soto gave was the fleck of rubber, under the press of an oven yellow with flame ( Mexicans Begin Jogging ), which sounds almost unbearable to deal with. Nevertheless, the predicament that Soto was in was not because of border patrol, it was because of the stereotype people had placed on him. This magnifies the implication that the racial stereotypes had on Soto, because of the stereotyping; Hispanics are associated with undocumented residents. Most of the time, an author will write in hopes to influence others to believe a certain way. Authors must strategize to master the art of persuasion. There are multiple appeals a writer may use in order to get their point across to the audience. The Jungle and Fast Food Nation use ethos, pathos, and logos in efforts to gain support towards their purpose of improving the work conditions and quality of life for immigrants. In order to convince an audience through an ethical appeal, a writer would use ethos. Ethos places an emphasis on the credibility of the source. In The Jungle Upton Sinclair writes, In the beginning he had been fresh and strong, and he had gotten a job the first day, but now he was second hand, a damaged article... (Sinclair 90). Jurgis, Sinclair s character, goes from adoring capitalism to despising it. Since he proves to be open minded, his feelings seem less biased. In Fast Food Nation Schlosser states, We are human beings, more than one person told me, but they treat us like animals (Schlosser 169). Along with this Samsung also increased the investments in their R amp;D centers. After doing the trend analysis for the Exhibit 3 which shows the Samsung R amp;D budget and percentage sales, We arrive at the conclusion that the Samsung s R amp;D budget increased till the year 2007 linearly. But there is decline in the percentage of sales in the year 2007, which suggests that the Samsung will need to rethink this strategy. There is an urgent need to optimize the cost related to Samsung s R amp;D expenditure to prevent the decline of sales in future. Samsung globalized their R amp;D network worldwide to develop technologies which can be commercialized in the future. Basically the main idea behind the globalization of R amp;D network is to: * Focus on innovation and generating new products for global market. * There is a huge scope of product improvement. * This provides an access to the emerging markets. * Leverages the market opportunity for the firm. • 43. Bill 2 Reflection The two bills I chose were bill 2 and bill 5. These bills were a resolution to create a demilitarized zone the South China Sea (bill 2) and a bill to create an Indian free trade agreement (bill 5). The speeches I wrote were both positive and bill 2 was won by the Republicans, which is the group I was with. I also believe bill 5 would have been won too, but that bill was never called upon. The South China Sea is worth 5.3 trillion dollars. This is enough for China to threaten military action for claim over the wealth (Fensom). How important is this body of water? The South China Sea is very valuable. Most of its wealth is within trade, islands, and oil. Many global sea routes connect in the South China Sea, giving it the nickname the throat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found myself agreeing with every bill that was voted on for the Republican side. However, there were some bills I did not agree with. For example, bill 1 I would have had to vote no, against the Republican party, because I do not agree with a bill to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences. The bills that were brought up for discussion happened to work out to where I agree with, and voted on, the Republican side. The hardest part about Mock Congress was getting in front of the class and saying my speech. I am not very good at speaking, making it hard to fluently give an entire speech in front of a crowd. The easiest part about Mock Congress was probably listening and voting on other bills. The part I enjoyed the most was listening and debating on the bills brought up in class. I enjoyed this because I found it to be fun and interesting. The part I enjoyed least would definitely been giving my speech in front of the class. I do not really have any one person in mind for the best congressman/woman. If I had to choose, I would pick Alex Hudson. I am choosing him because he was very active during the duration of Mock Congress. He brought up several good points, along with asking good questions. Alex also seemed the most prepared on him speech, being that he had all the facts he needed for his speech memorized and did not need and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Life Of Eleanor Roosevelt Essay The Life of Eleanor Roosevelt Compared to Jill Petrasek Eleanor Roosevelt was a remarkable woman who was incomparable because of how much she had wanted to change the world. She had helped society take action by fighting for equality between all women and men, blacks and white, and many more things that she had believed in. Eleanor Roosevelt had a hard life when growing up due to the fact that his mom had died when Eleanor was at young age (Ellwood 6). This had made her have to move in with her grandparents, which meant that it would be harder to keep in contact with her father because he was not with her (Ellwood 6). Eleanor and her father were still able to keep in contact due to the fact that they wrote letters to each other frequently (Ellwood 6). This in fact had helped Eleaner to grow due to the fact that her dad had told her to work hard, and be instructable to the outside world. The letters had halted at the age of ten because her father had passed away (Ellwood 6). The fact that her dad had passed away made her feel like she had no one to talk to which made her feel lonely (Ellwood 6). After Eleanor s father s passing she became sheepish and reserved to the outside world until she had meet a teacher by the name of Ms. Souvestre who showed her to be confident and how smart she really was (Ellwood 9). Souvestre had also advised Eleanor to always say what was on her mind and stand up for what was right and what she believed even if there were extreme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of International Commercial... 5.1 Critical Analysis International commercial arbitration has evolved, primarily, against the background of two unifying international traditions: the private international legal tradition, directed at the harmonization of laws; and the public international law tradition, committed to reducing global barriers to trade. International Commercial arbitration is the most widely used tool for resolution of trade or commercial disputes. The effort should be made to tackle the problems which will benefit commercial transaction activities. Most of the domestic courts were very slow in dealing with Arbitration cases. Therefore, parties now resort to Arbitration in order to avoid lengthy and complex litigation procedure. The Study findings revealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A practical solution to avoid this issue is to include an Immunity Waiver Clause in the arbitration agreement. States are generally not comfortable with this clause; however, this puts an obligation on the state to not use this as a defence during enforcement of awards. Once any State agrees to arbitration, it is an assumed principle that the State has waived its Sovereign Immunity. Under International Conventions like New York Convention, if the state enters into an agreement, it is treated as if the State has waived its Immunity and can be taken up as strong evidence against the State. The situation is difficult as national courts (dealing with enforcement of awards) refuse to build up special rules and regulations for the enforcement of arbitral awards and they are guided by the principles applicable in judicial proceedings . Therefore it is probable on some occasions for litigants to conquer the hindrance that are present while enforcing an award against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Congruent Communication In The Classroom Haim Ginott Focuses on how adults can build the self concepts of children, especially emphasizing that adults should avoid attacks on the child s character and instead focus on the situation or actions. Finding effective alternatives to punishment. Effective classroom management is dependent on the manner the teacher interacts with the students. Teachers should maintain a secure, humanitarian, and productive classroom through the use of congruent communication and appropriate use of praise. Congruent communication essentially means to match the students feelings towards a certain situation or current feelings about themselves. A variety of ways a teacher can express congruent communication: Deliver sane messages Addresses the situation, not how the student handled the situation. Express anger appropriately Rather than go on a rampage telling the student how annoying they are or something wrong that they did, walk the student(s) through your frustrations. For example, instead of saying, You are so irresponsible when you... simply say, It makes me angry when you... . Invite cooperation Allow students to demonstrate their independence. For example, rather than selecting the seating chart let the students pick; or an example we talked about in class, include the students in creating the classroom rules. Accept and acknowledge student feelings Be someone that they can go to express their feelings. Walk the student(s) through their emotions and validate what they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
