The Battle Of The Ottoman Empire
For the Ottoman to progress further it needed a new national mantra for legitimacy in order to
earn the respects of its subjects, in addition the empire had to mold a new national ethos . As said
before that if the Empire was to survive in the modern world, it could no longer be a group of
disparate communities held together by force and obedience to a ruling family; it needed a unity of
consciousness, which would create an active moral link between rulers and the ruled (Hourani
1991: 52). In this sense the old ways of cementing authority were no longer valid during the mid
nineteenth century. Another country that faced this dilemma was Russia, which ironically, was a
longtime rival of the Ottoman Empirefor influence in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea, yet just
like the Ottoman Empire it also faced the challenges of reconciling the increasingly outdated
notion of absolute monarchy to modern civic values. For Russia its answer was to turn to an
ideology that would seemingly be a unifying factor for the Slavic peoples in Europe with the Czar
as its head similar to that of Pan Islam followed by Abdul Hamid. In the Russian case it would
follow three principles: Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and Nationality. This notion was formulated by the
late Russian education minister Sergei Uvarov who stated these principles in an 1832 report
outlining the future direction of Russian education. Uvarov, a man who once studied in Vienna and
an enthusiast for Oriental Studies, believed that the

A Research On The Service Industry
The service industry has an interesting outlook when it comes to implementing lean ideas; a
copious amount of those in the industry do not believe lean applies to them. The finance industry,
a sector of the service industry, is not exempt from that mindset. Deepak Goyal, a practitioner in
health care strategies for Strategy , has a different opinion on the matter, Finance is just a
different kind of factory. It is a processing factory, and there s a lot of waste. The basic philosophy
doesn t really change. (Global Focus, North America, 2009) Credit unions in particular can reap a
large amount of benefits by implementing lean.
Contrary to widespread belief, credit unions are not the same as banks. Credit unions are not for

Alliance s momentum has not slowed since. As of April 2017, they had more than eighteen

to be only a small to mid sized credit union as it is not a national credit union, but the company s

Their mission statement is, Providing financial solutions that deliver value and enrich the lives of

These are great statements in theory. However, in practice, the only truth is that the employees
are extremely friendly on the front lines. Overall, there are too many services the credit union

certainly is a lack of accuracy. One of the main issues the company seems to have is their lack

Medium Egg Experiment
As a class, we wanted to determine if there really was a difference between large eggs and
medium eggs. If the large eggs did not have a larger mass than medium eggs it would be
reasonable to conclude that large and and medium eggs are, in fact, the same size. First, we had
half the class measure medium eggs, while the other half measured the large eggs. After we had
found the masses of both medium and large eggs we compiled our data. The mean of both types
of eggs were found leading toward a comparison using the t test. Based on the evidence, the null
hypothesis was rejected. It was reasonable to conclude that there was a difference between both
medium and large eggs. The results did not support our hypothesis which is: there is not a difference
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The largest medium egg was about equal to the smallest large egg. The mean of the medium eggs
was 48.84 grams (s.d. +/ 1.86114). The large eggs ranged from 53.34g to 65.98. The mean of
these numbers is 59.76 (s.d. +/ 3.84559). The t test was calculated to be 0.702 proving the null
hypothesis wrong.
DISCUSSION
The findings show that there is a difference in the medium and large eggs. Large eggs were found
to weigh more than the medium eggs. If medium eggs would have had similar mean weights we
could have concluded that both sets of eggs are the same.
The t test showed us that the null hypothesis was not present between both sets of eggs; also,
voiding our original hypothesis stating that there was not a difference between between medium
and large eggs.
Although this experiment was completed with precise care, there may be some inaccuracies present
such as the cracking of an egg. Although this may be an inaccuracy, it is highly unlikely that this
had any significant impact on the data.
The evidence shown leads the conclusion that medium eggs and large eggs are different. Although
this might be true for this particular brand, there is no guarantee this is true for other brands of

Research Paper On Megan s Law
On July 29, 1994 in a small town in New Jersey, a 7 year old girl was lured into the home of Jesse
Timmendequas after the promise of a puppy. What followed was the sexual assault and brutal
murder of Megan Kanka, her body found in Mercer Park the next day. Timmendequas was
arrested quickly and at which time his prior charges were brought to light. Timmendequas had
been priorly charged with attacking a 5 year old child and attempted sexual assault of a 7 year old
( Parents For Megan s Law ). These facts sparked community outrage, and petitions that demanded
the right to be made more aware of sexual predators circulated the state. Megan Kanka s parent
pushed for the state legislators to create a new law, stating that if they had known about... Show

friend were released, Jacob was to remain with the man. The two other boys ran home, no arrest
was ever made and Jacob was never seen again. Investigators learned soon after that unbeknownst
to the community, sex offenders had been living in halfway houses around the neighborhood. Not
many years after this event Stephanie Schmidt, a 19 year old college student was raped and
murdered by a coworker whom she had no idea was a registered sex offender ( Parents For Megan s
Law ). Her family contributed to laws that would make communities more aware of sexual
predators. Laws like these provide information of the offender s conviction such as, Subject
sexually assaulted a juvenile female, and description of the offense for example, Subject sexually

The Gap in Social Classes in Detroit
With Detroit being the most segregated city in the country, the center with the richest business
industries mixed along with the largest minority middle class anywhere, much controversy is
occurring and it is causing many issues to the surrounding metropolitan area. Due to such a large
gap in social classes, status frustration has led to a spike in racial tensions causing more crime.
Because of this Detroithas become a main focus of many local news reports. Many Detroit
residents are becoming upset with the fact that only negative reports have made the front covers
of newspapers giving Detroit a false image. This has been proven true with many television
shows, movies, and video game images. The previously aired show Detroit 1 8 7, an American
crime drama about Detroit s leading homicide unit, was taken off air because it gave a negative
outlook on the Detroit area. The show s producer, David Zabel stated that even though it was
show about crime, there still was an opportunity to give the city positive light because of the
heroic people that do fight for the city s justice. After reading many commentaries on this show,
the conclusion that the people of Detroit say the people of the city are not as mean and violent as
the shows producers make them seem. In 1974, Detroit was given the nickname of Murder City
after more than 700 homicides were committed. Since this is such a sensitive subject for Detroit
citizens, one of the biggest issues with

2) Frame the right problem The issue is that our department is staffing inappropriately. Our
busiest days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday averaging forty patients per day. However, only
four nurses are scheduled on our busiest days. That is ten critical patients per nurse, which is not
only unsafe but leads to decreased morale, mistakes and an inability to leave work on time. 3)
Describe end state and goals My goal, over the course of this class is to change the staff schedule
to match that of the operating room and to transition to Stay Staffed self scheduling systems
hospital wide. The daily schedule will include but is not limited to a minimum of six nurses per day
with schedules that parallel the operating room turnover times. Also, I have begun working with
upper level management on a program that allows critically ill, intubated patients to bypass the
recovery room and be directly admitted to the critical care area that the patient is assigned to.
This saves the patient and family money and decreases patient load for the recovery room staff.
My goal is to hire three new nurses and change the staff schedule from (4) twelve hour days to (3
to 4) eight to ten hour days and create a weekend on call team. Instead of mandatory overtime,
create a sign up list and make overtime optional. Please see example of new schedule below:

The Sick Rose By William Blake Meaning
The Multiple Meanings of The Sick Rose and The Eagle
After studying the two poems, The Sick Rose and The Eagle in class and the discussion among
the group, it seems to me that the poems haven t got only one single meaning. I also noticed that
poems could always be interpreted in different ways with different meanings based on your point
of view and your personal knowledge and experience. Poems are also open to interpretations.
The Sick Rose is a very decent example of which the poems can be interpreted in different ways.
The word rose first came into sight in the title, which indicates this word play a chief part in the
interpretation of the poem. Rose can be a person, as this is a very widespread name for girls in ...

William
Blake was a poet, writer and also a painter. Just like most of the other writers, he had his own
style when creating a piece. He particularly specified in religion, and his ideas of religion, or in
other words, the operation of the church contradicted with most of the people at his time, especially
the ones with power and money. William
Blake was neither rich nor powerful, and he didn t risk his life to express his discontent. He
conveyed his feelings in the poem, let alone be aware of his minds and thoughts.
Granted that this concept is right, then rose signifies the church, which was being tarnished by
the priests , which was indicated by invisible worm in the poem. They lived a luxurious life
using the donations and they wore expensive red priests robes, which was represented by the
phrase crimson joy . There is an idiom Do not judge a book by its cover , and that is exactly what
the poet was trying to tell us most of the things do not look as they appear to be. If the poet hadn t
experienced the injustice and unfairness of the church, he might not have written this poem.
Actually we will never experience the treatment of the church at the time when the poem was
written, but knowing the poet s background is a good way to have accurate interpretations. Hence,
self experience is a very important factor leading to varied

There are several stories that have monkey as an important character. In Hindu culture, the most
famous monkey character is Hanuman, from the great Ramayana. Similar to Lutung, Hanuman

Hanuman is originally born as a monkey. Another story that has monkey as its character is
Journey to the West . The character is a monkey, which is also named Monkey. Same with
Lutung, Monkey in this story goes to a place which is not his origin place. Monkey is also

The Causes Of Famine And Poverty
As a young girl, I recall watching a documentary about a young mother in Africa who cooked
mud cakes under the blinding sun to put some source of calcium into her starving childrens body.
The cakes were made from dried dirt which was dug from the ground. While children in first
world nations take for granted the meals they receive at home and in school, every day millions of
men and women across the world struggle to feed their children a nutritious meal. As children in
the richest countries in the world throw out vast amounts of food and have developed particular
appetites for certain foods, children in developed countries go to bed with an empty stomach. Many
parents do not understand the impact of raising their children with a silver spoon in their mouth and
how it can shape them into selfish adults in the long run. It is embarrassing as an American citizen
to know that while our country is facing obesity, people in other countries are dying from
starvation. Most individuals believe that famineand povertyare merely natural phenomenon based
on geography and environment. However, these individuals fail to realize that these issues are
rooted in social relations. In order to eradicate famine and poverty within society, particular social
relations need to be eliminated.
The popular belief of why famines occur and remain to impact many nations around the world is
because of geographic location. However, tragic famines like the Irish potato famine reveal that it is

Wendy And Stefan s Contractual Argument
In this case, there are many issues throughout the standard discovery between Wendy, Stefan, and
the agreed upon contracts. To begin, it should not go unnoticed that both Wendy and Stefan signed

them to their respective responsibilities. The contract explains the different sets of stunts that
Wendy would perform that creates Stefan s contractual obligation to pay her $5,000 a week salary.

Handmaids Tale Comparison
Kazuo Ishiguro in Never Let Me Go and Mike Barker in The Handmaid s Tale similarly develop
plots in which they explore the accomplishment of authority from the expulsion of human
connections. Each author utilises setting, metaphor and symbolism to heighten how the impact of
isolation, breakdown of family structure and removal of identification prevents connections. Thus
demonstrating that without human networks authority can achieve ultimate supremacy.
Ishiguro and Barker utilise physical settings to restrict the respective isolated minorities from any
connection with people from the outside world . Ishiguro creates a school styled establishment,
Hailsham, a place where the clones, the protagonists, grow up in. The building is at the end ... Show

Barker eradicates the handmaid s names and instead they must take the name of their Commander.
June s name Offred demonstrates that she is the property of her Commander, and thus the
institutionalised regimes forbid any individuality amongst the handmaids. Likewise, Ishiguro does
not provide the clones with a last name, symbolising that their ability to distinguish each other is
non existence and thus their identity is unknown. Consequently, the clones become desperate to
find their possible , the people with whom they share genes, representing their yearning for
acceptance and belonging within the community. Flashbacks are displayed in The Handmaids Tale
through altered light exposure and diegetic sounds which are often unheard in the Republic of
Gilead to provoke unsettlement within the audiences, due to the similarities with present society.
These scenes depict June with her family and have her consecutively centre frame with a levelled
shot alluding to her control. However, in Gilead June, along with the other handmaids are often
placed in the frames corners viewed through high angles. Barker demonstrates that with the
breakdown of family structure, individuals become powerless and marginalised. Similarly, Ishiguro

Kidney Transplants
Kidney transplants have been known since 1954 when it was first performed at Brigham Woman s
hospital in Boston. Although technology and technique involved have improved, the waiting list
for a kidney transplant (which is the most common transplanted organ) continues to increase. In
2012 there were 95,000 individuals waiting for a transplant yet only about 16,500 transplants were
performed that year. Introducing a new system that offers compensation for people who give up
their organs is what some believe the most effective way to decrease the waiting list. Individuals

Paying someone $15,000 for a kidney will save money and time based solely on common sense.
Even if this new system only increases organ donations by a small percentage the overall
outcome will be a lot better then what it is now. Although this system seems practical and
efficient, to many it is immoral. Paying individuals $15,000 for a kidney would ultimately save
the recipient about $330,000 and an improved liberalized lifestyle. In a transplant the recipient of
the kidney is the only person receiving a tangible benefit. If the person who donates receives
compensation in return this individual will also benefit financially. The word donation is defined
as an act or instance of presenting something as a gift, grant, or contribution . Taking this
definition into account the idea of organ donations would be nonexistent. The article presents the
fact that the waiting list is getting larger and larger due to the lack of donations. Setting up a
capitalist market for body parts may in no doubt increase the donations yet, who are the people
that will be selling their organs? The less wealthy therefore implementing a system in which the
poor are working as replacement parts for the rich. Paying for organs is immoral because it treats
the human body as a commodity, but is it more immoral to ignore the fact that we can possibly

One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Misogynist Analysis
One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest: A Misunderstood Book
People uphold their sex with pride. Gender roles have shifted throughout the history of the
United States. One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest (by Ken Kesey) was written in the 1960s
(1962), a time when gender roles for men and women were shifting. The book was very
controversial, spawning many claims and accusations; one particular claim being that Kesey
promotes misogyny. This claim misrepresents the book for what it is: a book that treats men and
women in an equal limelight. One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest is not a misogynistic book because
of its equal treatment of both sexes, portrayal of women in power, and mistreatment of men. The
main argument of the opposition is that the book is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

only woman who is actually maimed by a man in the story. Something the opposition fails to

that is benevolent and gentle towards the men. Due to her existence in the story, it also refutes how
the story is sexist or misogynistic, because it displays a women who is fair and modest towards the

Religious culture in Italy grew and developed in several ways over its span of existence. It was
also a time of recording information and countless people wrote during this time about the
different aspects of their country. Religion was an important part of the people s daily life, seeing
that it determined their afterlife. There are several stories and beliefs available about this time
period that are used for current references on how exactly the religious culture worked. In
particular, Giovanni Boccaccios Decameron, which he wrote as a series of short stories about the
religious culture during the 1350 s, which was not long after the Black Death. His series of fictional
short stories gave people a different side of the story and how people truly regarded religionduring
this time. Currently, people who read these excerpts can compose inferences on how religious
culture was back then and it gives a different thought process, seeing that while it is not
particularly true, it shows a different side of the religious culture. Specifically, the story he tells us
in this excerpt shows us a great deal about the religious culture of Italy during that time and how
seriously they regarded God and his forgiveness, so much that one man lived a horrid life and still
managed to gain forgiveness of the church and be buried there. Religious culture over the years has

A family owned a shop known for the one of a kind mannequins and beautiful clothing, but it had
to close down recently due to a family crisis. It all started three days ago when the girl s
grandmother had a nervous breakdown due to her schizophrenia. She recalls the memories of her
grandmother talking to herself as well as having bizarre discussions or even hallucinations at times.
Those thoughts frightened her as her dear loving grandmother would fall ill and would even act out
violently at times of frustration. She thought to herself that not being able to control yourself,
including thoughts and actions would be the scariest thing since the illness would take over you
completely. Her mother decided that it d be best if the family remained in the house while her

As the oil lamp flickered in her room at her grandmother s home along with the eerie sound that
the wooden floor made when stepped on, the girl heard a deafening voice coming from the
distorted walls telling her to get out. She shook her head in disbelief as if she was saying to
herself that she was going insane and then repeating to herself for the fortieth time that things as

which corporations are controlled and directed. Corporate governance has also been more narrowly
defined as a system of law and sound approaches by which corporations are directed and controlled
focusing on the internal and external corporate structures with the intention of monitoring the
actions of management and directors and thereby, mitigating agency risks which may stem from the
misdeeds of corporate officers. Governance structures and principles identify the distribution of

1.3 The development of corporate governance and corporate governance theory Corporate
governance is a relatively new area and its development has been affected by theories from a
number of disciplines, including finance, economics, accounting, law, management, and
organisational behavior. Agency theory has probably affected the development of the corporate
governance framework the most. Agency theory identifies the agency relationship where one party,
the principal, delegates work to another party, the agent. In the context of a corporation, the owners
are the principal and the directors are the agent. In addition, there are other theories that have
affected the development of corporate governance, which include: transaction costs economics,
stakeholder theory, and stewardship theory. The development of corporate governance is a global
occurrence and, as such, is a complex area including legal, cultural, ownership, and other structural
differences. Therefore, some theories may be more appropriate and relevant to some countries than
others. 1.4 Theories of corporate governance There are a range of theories in corporate governance,
such theories address the cause and effect of variables. Agency Identifies the agency relationship

The Founding Of Rome: Romulus and Remus History has appointed an important event,

world, Rome. The myth was initiated by Roman scholars of the late century B.C., who despite the
fact that they had not witnessed any of the events concerning Romulus and Remus, created this
myth from only a figment of imagination and beliefs. Romans and many historians of our day owe
their gratitude to these scholars for their contribution to the history of the foundation of Rome. The

establishment of this city. Furthermore, we have to recognize the importance of Rhea and the god

The supreme ruler and king of gods, Zeus, is often mentioned as Jupiter and the sender of thunder,
lightning, rain, and wind (Britannica.com). Zeus was the first of the gods and a very imposing
figure. Often referred to as the father of gods and men, he is a sky god who controls lightning.
(Britannica.com) Although the god is labeled most powerful and the mightiest of all, he is not
perfect. Zeusis known for his promiscuous action. Often times he fell in love with one woman
after the other and attempted to disguise his infidelity from his wife. Zeus left no woman behind
in his crazy love life, the god married and had children with his sister, Heraand. Hera was not Zeus
only siblings. He also had two brothers, Poseidon and Hades and another sister named Hestia.
His parents are known as Cronus and Rhea. Zeus was not just handed the title god of the sky,
instead him and his two brothers drew lots. The sea was given to Poseidon, the underworld to
Hades, and Zeus was named lord of the sky, rain god, and cloud gatherer. The eagle is considered
sacred to this god. Zeus also treasures the oak tree. It is often told that the gods will was revealed
by the rustling of the oak tree. (Hamilton 27) According to Greek mythology, Cronus was
intimidated by his children. So in attempt to keep reign, he ate his children as they were born.
However, Rhea saved Zeus. She hid the baby and gave Cronus a rock wrapped in cloth instead.
Cronus fell for the trick and ate the rock. Zeus grew up and became powerful enough to battle his
father to free his siblings. (Britannica.com)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taliban, By Ahmed Rashid
I choose to read Taliban, by Ahmed Rashid, in hopes of gaining a better understanding of radical
Islam, and the conditions under which it flourishes. I choose Rashid s book, because he offers a
unique perspective to the region, being a Pakistani journalist he was able to interview most of the
Taliban s major players. This paper will provide as both my subsequent review of his work as well
as drawing connections between ISIS and the Talibans overall goals and strategies. Rashid s
investigation into the Taliban is thorough and insightful. His strong command on Middle Eastern
history helps him to frame the raise of the Taliban in historical and political terms. His unique
perspective takes these themes a step further as he also uncovers religious, social, cultural, and
military history in the country. Rashid builds on the history of the Pashtuns by including other
geopolitical actors such as Iran, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan.
His detailed research shows the elaborate rise of the Taliban, and serves as a brief history of their
military offenses. One of the more profound points in Rashid s book is the psychological
examination of the Taliban. He claims that a number of the Taliban s members were originally
Pakistani orphans who were more or less raised by the madrassas. The often radical indoctrination
offered a limited world view for the fighters, and most had no contact with women. This, mixed
with an radical interpretation of the Koran has lead

The Psycho Analytic Perspective
My life is a story of the self realization of the unconscious. Everything in the unconscious seeks
outward manifestation, and the personality too desires to evolve out of its unconscious conditions.
Carl Jung The author of the lines mentioned above, Carl Gustav Jung, is one of the major
contributors of the Psycho Analytic perspective of understanding personality. Jung who was born
in Kesswil, Switzerland, in 1875, was a very close associative of Sigmund Freud. The duo shared

Like all psychoanalysts, Jung recognized that personality contains both conscious and unconscious
elements. Like Freud, Jung referred to the ego when describing the more conscious aspects of
personality. His description of the unconscious, though, differed from Freud s id and superego
structures. Furthermore, he did not seek to increase the role of consciousness in personality and to
minimize unconscious influence, as did Freud. Rather, Jung sought a balance in which unconscious
elements were given an equal role, complementary to that of consciousness Jung s description of
personality types is one of the more straightforward aspects of his theory. Among other things, it
helps explain why some people seize on his descriptions of mystical and mythological experience
with enthusiasm, while others dismiss them as non scientific nonsense. The difference depends on
a person s psychological type, that is, the person s grouping based on Jung s three major dimensions
of personality. The three dimensions are introversion versus extraversion, thinking

formulated the fundamentals of success on Animal Farm with a philosophy called Animalism.
Animalism, unbeknownst to them, was based upon the principles of Socialism, where each and

Furthermore, with these moral standards put in place, the pigs drafted the Seven

Reflection Of African American Literature
AFAS 160D: African American Literature is a thought provoking course detailing the dynamic
culture and literature African Americans have produced in American society. The readings
provided challenge our stereotypical way of thinking when it comes to privilege, discrimination,
racism, and oppression. These readings include Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, The
Institutionalist by Colson Whitehead, a variety of poems, and more. No matter what content
the course puts out, it is always an enjoyable read. The online part is also a positive aspect
because it can fit into anyone s tenuous schedule. I rarely have time during the day, so I work on
this class either at my shifts as a Desk Assistant on campus or at night, when I can find that free
time. I feel neutral about the assignments because for a gen ed, there was quite a lot of work. The
assignments were related to the readings and helped me better understand them, but it seemed a
little excessive. For this class, the website Notebowl is used instead of D2L. This change tripped
me up at first, but over time, I started to understand and get use to it. Notebowl is more online
friendly than D2L and allows for better communication across all boards (professor student, TA
student, student student). The only downside is the $25 cost and I hope that can be subsidized in
the future. In this order, I will tell any potential student about the course and why they should take it.
My mind ordered the reasons above in that way because of importance. The meat of the course, the
readings, are by far the most essential component of the class. If the readings did not fit the vibe of
the class, were few and far between, or were too daunting, then I would not recommend the course.
Nonetheless, Professor Carter bestowed upon us glorious readings that were same part intriguing,
entertaining, and thought provoking. The readings made the course for me and broadened my
library all together and, specifically, for African Americanliterature. What differentiates this class
from others is that it is fully online. Every semester in my collegiate career, I have taken an online
class. For me, it allows me to not be swamped during the day and work on it at night, where,

Realism And The Struggles Of Women
Realism and the Struggles of Women
Realism and Naturalism are literary movements that appeared across America in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites
(Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most
evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of
detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). On the other hand,
naturalism focuses on a more romantic, view of human life than realism (Baym and Levine 902).
Authors that concentrated on realism include Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Within
their stories, it becomes clear on which issues they are bringing to life. Chopin and Gilman discuss
the harsh reality of women during their time in, The Story of an Hour and The Yellow Wall paper.
Alternatively, these authors were byproducts for women s rights, as well as realism.
Since the dawn of mankind, women are traditionally recognized as the less dominant sex. History
has shown that women are against this notion and have been seen fighting for equal rights and
freedom. Since the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, also known as the 19th
Amendment, women have proven themselves to be just as capable as men. But before there was a
push on equal rights for women, authors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries had no
representation. Authors such as Kate Chopin and

Tam Lin Relationship Analysis
From Blackstock to Nowhere: Relationships and Power Dynamics in Two Retellings of the Ballad
of Tam Lin The Scottish folk ballad Tam Lin is a very popular ballad which has inspired many
contemporary writers and artists to create their own retellings and reinterpretations. Fire and
Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones and Tam Linby Pamela Dean are two of these retellings. In these
novels, Jones and Dean have masterfully brought the events and characters of the traditional ballad
into the modern world. Although both novels have drawn from the same source there are a number
of distinct differences between the two, especially when it comes to the relationship between their
Janet and Tam Lin characters (Polly Whittacker and Tom Lynn in Fire and Hemlock
, and Janet
Carter and Thomas Lane in Tam Lin), and the balance of power between them throughout the
narrative. While Jones novel is very much centered around the idea of Tam Lin being one of the
rare few folk ballads or tales with a female hero and is structured as such to give Polly a position
of power and equality in the relationship by the end, Dean seems to approach her retelling of the
ballad from a different direction, questioning whether Janet really is as empowered by her role as
the hero as it may seem at first. In both novels, the first meeting between the Janet and Tam Lin
characters sets a strong base for their initial relationship, especially regarding the power dynamics
within that relationship. In the ballad of Tam

The Legality of Child Pornography Essays
The Legality of Child Pornography
Child pornography is an ongoing issue as technology progresses in today s world. Now there are
ways to produce child pornography without actually using a real child. While there are acts and
laws to protect the children, there are still many unsatisfied people on each side of the issue. There
are people who believe the adult entertainment companies, who produce the child pornography;
they believe that their First Amendment rights are being violated with current acts and laws
against it. There are also people who think that the current laws are not strict enough and that they
need to outlaw all types of child pornography. It is necessary for all sides of the issue to be
considered and for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this time, adult entertainment companies were finding ways to entertain their pedophilic users
while still obeying the law. Software was created that could either alter the picture of an adult to
make them appear as if they are under eighteen, or the software could create a child from the
ingenuity of the computer (Goodwin, 2001).
In response to this act, adult entertainment companies sued, claiming the act was unconstitutional in
violation of the First Amendment. They argued that they never actually used a child in any
creation of images (Goodwin, 2001). As long as they didn t harm children, they were allowed to
post any images that they wanted. This angers many advocates against child pornography because
it s possible that the viewing of child pornography is the beginning of some child rape and child
molestation cases.
Another issue concerning child pornography is solicitation. While it is illegal to solicit child
pornography, there is a way around it. With new technology, it is possible to maintain a level of
anonymity. Anonymity provides a way to distribute child pornography without being found and
arrested. There are arguments being made by law enforcement agencies that they should be able to
trace online activity for anyone they need to. They want to require anonymity sites to keep ISPs so
that records are kept of the true identities of the users

Weary Blues By Langston Hughes
Poetry is a form of literature that is expressive and can sometimes communicate a message more
effectively than prose. It can be filled with literary elements and vivid language that can help poets
relay their message to the readers. What is fascinating about poetry, is that each poem can relate to
a person in multiple ways. In the poems Harlem and Weary Blues Langston Hughes uses language
that effectively communicates the overall themes of both poems and relates to the African
American experience at the time. The literary elements used in Harlem help Langston Hughes
effectively communicate the overall theme of dreams and its relation to the African American
experience. The poem Harlem is about a deferred dream and what happens to... Show more content

The poem Weary Blues is about a black man singing the blues and how he uses the music to
portray his life. The usage of similes, metaphors, and personification enhance the poem and
allows for Hughes message to effectively be conveyed. In line 10 Hughes writes, He made the
poor piano moan with melody. The usage of personification in this line gives the piano human
characteristics and readers can understand that the music the African American is playing is
melancholy. The dramatic personification clearly sets the mood of the poem. Line 10 is a
metaphor as well, describing the piano as a poor piano which helps create an image for the reader.
From the poem and its expressive language, readers find out that the man is singing the blues,
which is known to be a sad and depressing genre. Throughout the poem, the black man is singing
about his life and how it s filled with loneliness, troubles, and unhappiness. This was probably a
common feeling throughout many African Americans at the time due to social restrictions and
their suppressed lives. In line 35 Hughes writes, He slept like a rock or a man that s dead. The
powerful simile here ends the poem in an effective way. He slept like a rock shows that the man s
sleep was so deep and or man that s dead shows that it was as if he weren t even alive. In line 30 the
man sings,

Army Slowly Advanced Into The Forest
Nightburn s army slowly advanced into the forest. Their retreat was purposely slow. It would
enable the enemy scouts to see where they had gone and report to Duke Gashard. Gashard s army
advanced on them quickly, perhaps, only an hour s time, before they would overtake them.
Nightburn s army passed through the forest, fully aware that Gashard s army would shortly be
upon them. They had increased the speed of their withdrawal once they entered the forest and were
now almost at a full run. Nightburn reigned in his horse as Sir Faine came barreling toward him
from his left and met him.
Are the archers in position? He shifted in his saddle, looking back as his troops continued to run
passed, to view the tail end of his troops retreat. They were almost clear of the forest, and so far
everything was going as planned.
Yes, my Lord. Sir Faine replied, also satisfied with the progress of the troops.
Who s the officer with them?
Lieutenant Gustav and he understands what s expected of him.
Nightburn nodded and both rode off quickly, urging the men to an even faster pace. Gashard s
army had advanced quickly and most had already entered the forest of Catahclisum. They had cut
the time of encounter in half and Duke Gashard was very pleased. He could not wait to get his
hands on Lord Nightburn. After all the years, he now would have his revenge. Gashard s first
lieutenant rode up quickly and settled in beside him, speaking quickly and obviously upset, My

Identity In Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
Most young adults do not have a single clue of what they want to do with their lives. These young
adults do not know who they are or what they want to become. They are absolutely oblivious until
the end of high school or even college. They have not developed their identity completely.
Meanwhile, in the book Outliers, written by Malcolm Gladwell, it talks about certain characters who
have developed their identity and stand out in history, such as Bill Gates and Bill Joy. It talks about
how these successful people became successful. There are many aspects that contribute to the
identity and successof someone. The development of one s identity plays an important role in one s

One s skills and talents define what someone does and how others perceive them. In Outliers,
Gladwell speaks of the 10,000 Hour Rule . He says that if one practices a skill for 10,000 hours,
then they will master that skill. Some musicians, like the Beatles, are known for their music and
their musical talent, because they practiced over 10,000 hours. Their musical skills help develop
their identity and how others recognize them. Also, the author states, The average person has an
average IQ of one hundred, the voice over continued. Einstein one fifty. Chris has an IQ of one
ninety five (Gladwell 70). This quote takes place during a game show, in which Chris is
competing in. Since Chris has such a prodigious IQ, he has multiple skills in intelligence. This
increases his chance in winning the game show. The Beatles s and Chris s identity are developed
by their skills and talents. If they never became famous, they would not be the people they are
today. Even though skills and talents play an immense role in developing one s identity, other
factors can contribute to it, such as the background one comes

My Life Goals For College
Most of my pre teen years I thought I was not able to go to college. I thought it was too expensive
and that only the smart people and people who had enough money could go. Until I got to middle
school, I found out about scholarships and how they can really help students of parents with low
income go to college. I wanted to learn more and more about programs that help students like me.
I wanted to make my parents proud but most importantly, myself. I think college is a gateway to
a million possibilities and doing the things you love for the rest of your life. This was the start
of my lifelong goals. I was born in Walla Walla Washington, on September 5th of 2000 but was
raised in Lakewood Washington. I m the oldest of my three siblings. Both of my parents come
from Oaxaca, Mexico. As the oldest sibling, I never had help with school. This kind of affected me
with school. My grandparents didn t have enough money to pay for my parents high school
education. I was raised to have responsibilities ate the age of 9, when my parents worked a lot
because they needed money. I now go to Mount Tahoma high school and will be a graduate of
class of 2019 next year. I am hoping that I get enough help to pay for college. I also am the first
generation in my family that will attend college, I used to think I wasn t going to be able to know
things about college because my parents didn t know anything about it, but then I joined a college
program that showed me what college really was.

Magna Carta Research Paper Outline
Magna Carta
The Magna Carta or The Great Charter is one of the most influential documents in history till
date. The Magna Carta inspired many historical documents such as the U.S Constitution and the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Magna Carta is a peace treaty signed in June 15,1215 between King John and the rebel barons.
The Magna Carta was made because nobles/barons caught King John breaking laws he
established. He was banned from churches by Pope Innocent III. To redeem his reputation, John
took money from barons to help the army, which was against the law. Rebel barons wanted King
John to pay for what he done. So, in May 17,1215, they captured the Tower of London. They made
a peace treaty, Magna Carta, which King John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Magna Carta also charted the right to a fair trial and limits on taxation without
representation. This peace treaty was created because the king was going against the own laws set
by him, and the rebel barons wanted to put an end to this problem by creating a peace treaty. The
Magna Carta required that no one including the king himself must not violate the laws.
The Magna Carta is known as one of the first steps taken in England towards parliamentary
democracy. The Magna Carta is a symbol of freedom from oppression. This peace treaty inspired
the Parliament, in England. It also heavily influenced the American Bill of rights, and the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights. It inspired the U.S founding fathers to right the U.S Constitution.
The Magna Carta was made to protect basic human rights. The treaty was also contrived to limit
the king s power. King John had no intention of believing in the agreement leading to the Baron s
war. When the Baron s captured London King John was forced to negotiate with barons and
eventually sign the treaty. The 1215 Magna Carta was not the only version. In 1225 there was a

all philadelphians. Franklin wrote a book on his studies on electricity in 1751, this copy went
through three different languages including english. One of his experiments on electricity was
trying to identify the difference between thunderbolts and electricity. Ben flew a kite in a dangerous
thunderstorm in france on June tenth, 1752. With the help of his son, William, they hooked up his
kite to a silk string, tying an metal key to where the bolt would strike it. Ben s educated guess was
that the lightning itself was an electrical phenomenon, and the electrical effect of the lightning bolt
striking it might be able to transfer to another object. Also the causes and effects in the experiment
could be recognized as electricity. Concluding this experiment, it successfully showed that the
energy from the bolt was static energy. Ben grew more popularity conducting this

Developing Wireless Communications to Space Essay
A big potential problem in the future is developing a wireless communications network in outer
space. In this paper we will discuss the problems presented with this and the potential solutions to
these problems using existing and some futuristic technology. We have broke this into two main
parts, one being earth to satellite to planet and back, and the other being planetary ground
transmission to and from astronauts to rovers to space stations.
The solution has already started being implemented and will continue rapidly into the near future. It
is called the Interplanetary Internet. As of now it is an array of floating nodes or satellites scattered
around in space that can communicate with each other. In the future a ... Show more content on

On the earth we are only separated from one another by fractions of a second. From earth to mars
the average transmission time is 30 45 minutes. That would feel like light years trying to download
tracks to your iPod.
In order to make this work a massive system of satellites needs to be implemented. These
satellites will serve as net gateways with the purpose of conveying data packets. Each piece of
equipment will have its own IPN address, or .mars domain name. They will serve as nodes,
operating on a packet switched network.
Some major possible problems include lag, weak signal, and reduced bandwidth. The solution to
all of these lies in a new IPN protocol being developed. This protocol, along with high precision
equipment, will help to eliminated all of these. The protocol has changed in two major ways
from our own TCP/IP protocol. This first is a packet delivery scheme that won t clog the system
by resending missing packets. IPN instead keeps track of arriving packets and then requesting
missing ones at the end of delivery. The second is the packet headers will use only one tenth as
much bandwidth as TCP/IP. Back on earth there will be gateways to translate.
Another big problem with the Interplanetary Internet is speed. Using our current technology the top
speed for sending data from a satellite orbiting mars to earth is 250 kbps. Down on mars, in a dusty
unknown atmosphere with not much power, this is more like 10 kbps. The solution

Ethical Values And Moral Values
Ethics in a sense is everything we hold dear to us, meaning our moral values. The development of
figuring out what is important to us requires intellectual and critical evaluation. By not developing
ones own moral values, you are simply taking the route of taking the moral beliefs given to you by
your family or society. You re accepting them because its easier than questioning them. However,
this has its setbacks, by choosing not to do ethics you are essentially undermining your own
personal freedom of choice. By accepting beliefs of your culturewithout question, then those
viewpoints are not truly yours. Another setback to not asking questions is that your reasons or
responses will be lacking understanding. Moral principles are might be absolute or might not,
even so we apply them to situations may be different and require you to evaluate the situation at
hand, which is hard to do if you ve never taken the time to do so before. The third importance is
that without taking the time to question and make your own moral code, you then in turn lose
intellectual growth. You do not gain new understandings of the ever changing world around
you; you become stuck in a stagnant world, which is not reality. I think this class will help me
look at moral judgments in a more logical and ethical way. I have already realized from this class
that I have based my ethical decisions on my emotion and the way I feel which is only one form
of ethics. This class will go over various theories to

  • 2. The Battle Of The Ottoman Empire For the Ottoman to progress further it needed a new national mantra for legitimacy in order to earn the respects of its subjects, in addition the empire had to mold a new national ethos . As said before that if the Empire was to survive in the modern world, it could no longer be a group of disparate communities held together by force and obedience to a ruling family; it needed a unity of consciousness, which would create an active moral link between rulers and the ruled (Hourani 1991: 52). In this sense the old ways of cementing authority were no longer valid during the mid nineteenth century. Another country that faced this dilemma was Russia, which ironically, was a longtime rival of the Ottoman Empirefor influence in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea, yet just like the Ottoman Empire it also faced the challenges of reconciling the increasingly outdated notion of absolute monarchy to modern civic values. For Russia its answer was to turn to an ideology that would seemingly be a unifying factor for the Slavic peoples in Europe with the Czar as its head similar to that of Pan Islam followed by Abdul Hamid. In the Russian case it would follow three principles: Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and Nationality. This notion was formulated by the late Russian education minister Sergei Uvarov who stated these principles in an 1832 report outlining the future direction of Russian education. Uvarov, a man who once studied in Vienna and an enthusiast for Oriental Studies, believed that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Research On The Service Industry The service industry has an interesting outlook when it comes to implementing lean ideas; a copious amount of those in the industry do not believe lean applies to them. The finance industry, a sector of the service industry, is not exempt from that mindset. Deepak Goyal, a practitioner in health care strategies for Strategy , has a different opinion on the matter, Finance is just a different kind of factory. It is a processing factory, and there s a lot of waste. The basic philosophy doesn t really change. (Global Focus, North America, 2009) Credit unions in particular can reap a large amount of benefits by implementing lean. Contrary to widespread belief, credit unions are not the same as banks. Credit unions are not for profit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By 1964, their membership grew to four thousand members with four million dollars in assets. Alliance s momentum has not slowed since. As of April 2017, they had more than eighteen thousand members with more than two hundred forty million dollars in assets. It is still considered to be only a small to mid sized credit union as it is not a national credit union, but the company s history has shown that this could happen in the distant future. They are pushing all the time to expand as shown in the 2015 merger with 1st City Credit Union. At a glance, the company seems to be doing fine. Profits are up, they updating equipment, and are talking about merging with yet another credit union. However, after further inspection, it is evident that there is a large amount of waste. Their mission statement is, Providing financial solutions that deliver value and enrich the lives of our members. Additionally, the main core value is, to be fast, friendly, and above all friendly. These are great statements in theory. However, in practice, the only truth is that the employees are extremely friendly on the front lines. Overall, there are too many services the credit union offers and the processes are lengthy with a great deal of redundancy, and, as a result, there certainly is a lack of accuracy. Recent studies have shown a critical absence of a strong and dependable cold chain in developing economies. • 5. Medium Egg Experiment As a class, we wanted to determine if there really was a difference between large eggs and medium eggs. If the large eggs did not have a larger mass than medium eggs it would be reasonable to conclude that large and and medium eggs are, in fact, the same size. First, we had half the class measure medium eggs, while the other half measured the large eggs. After we had found the masses of both medium and large eggs we compiled our data. The mean of both types of eggs were found leading toward a comparison using the t test. Based on the evidence, the null hypothesis was rejected. It was reasonable to conclude that there was a difference between both medium and large eggs. The results did not support our hypothesis which is: there is not a difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The largest medium egg was about equal to the smallest large egg. The mean of the medium eggs was 48.84 grams (s.d. +/ 1.86114). The large eggs ranged from 53.34g to 65.98. The mean of these numbers is 59.76 (s.d. +/ 3.84559). The t test was calculated to be 0.702 proving the null hypothesis wrong. DISCUSSION The findings show that there is a difference in the medium and large eggs. Large eggs were found to weigh more than the medium eggs. If medium eggs would have had similar mean weights we could have concluded that both sets of eggs are the same. The t test showed us that the null hypothesis was not present between both sets of eggs; also, voiding our original hypothesis stating that there was not a difference between between medium and large eggs. Although this experiment was completed with precise care, there may be some inaccuracies present such as the cracking of an egg. Although this may be an inaccuracy, it is highly unlikely that this had any significant impact on the data. The evidence shown leads the conclusion that medium eggs and large eggs are different. Although this might be true for this particular brand, there is no guarantee this is true for other brands of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What followed was the sexual assault and brutal murder of Megan Kanka, her body found in Mercer Park the next day. Timmendequas was arrested quickly and at which time his prior charges were brought to light. Timmendequas had been priorly charged with attacking a 5 year old child and attempted sexual assault of a 7 year old ( Parents For Megan s Law ). • 7. The Gap in Social Classes in Detroit With Detroit being the most segregated city in the country, the center with the richest business industries mixed along with the largest minority middle class anywhere, much controversy is occurring and it is causing many issues to the surrounding metropolitan area. Due to such a large gap in social classes, status frustration has led to a spike in racial tensions causing more crime. Because of this Detroithas become a main focus of many local news reports. Many Detroit residents are becoming upset with the fact that only negative reports have made the front covers of newspapers giving Detroit a false image. This has been proven true with many television shows, movies, and video game images. The previously aired show Detroit 1 8 7, an American crime drama about Detroit s leading homicide unit, was taken off air because it gave a negative outlook on the Detroit area. The show s producer, David Zabel stated that even though it was show about crime, there still was an opportunity to give the city positive light because of the heroic people that do fight for the city s justice. After reading many commentaries on this show, the conclusion that the people of Detroit say the people of the city are not as mean and violent as the shows producers make them seem. Our busiest days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday averaging forty patients per day. However, only four nurses are scheduled on our busiest days. That is ten critical patients per nurse, which is not only unsafe but leads to decreased morale, mistakes and an inability to leave work on time. 3) Describe end state and goals My goal, over the course of this class is to change the staff schedule to match that of the operating room and to transition to Stay Staffed self scheduling systems hospital wide. The daily schedule will include but is not limited to a minimum of six nurses per day with schedules that parallel the operating room turnover times. Also, I have begun working with upper level management on a program that allows critically ill, intubated patients to bypass the recovery room and be directly admitted to the critical care area that the patient is assigned to. This saves the patient and family money and decreases patient load for the recovery room staff. My goal is to hire three new nurses and change the staff schedule from (4) twelve hour days to (3 to 4) eight to ten hour days and create a weekend on call team. The myth was initiated by Roman scholars of the late century B.C., who despite the fact that they had not witnessed any of the events concerning Romulus and Remus, created this myth from only a figment of imagination and beliefs. • 33. Taliban, By Ahmed Rashid I choose to read Taliban, by Ahmed Rashid, in hopes of gaining a better understanding of radical Islam, and the conditions under which it flourishes. I choose Rashid s book, because he offers a unique perspective to the region, being a Pakistani journalist he was able to interview most of the Taliban s major players. This paper will provide as both my subsequent review of his work as well as drawing connections between ISIS and the Talibans overall goals and strategies. Rashid s investigation into the Taliban is thorough and insightful. His strong command on Middle Eastern history helps him to frame the raise of the Taliban in historical and political terms. His unique perspective takes these themes a step further as he also uncovers religious, social, cultural, and military history in the country. Rashid builds on the history of the Pashtuns by including other geopolitical actors such as Iran, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. His detailed research shows the elaborate rise of the Taliban, and serves as a brief history of their military offenses. One of the more profound points in Rashid s book is the psychological examination of the Taliban. He claims that a number of the Taliban s members were originally Pakistani orphans who were more or less raised by the madrassas. The often radical indoctrination offered a limited world view for the fighters, and most had no contact with women. This, mixed with an radical interpretation of the Koran has lead ... Everything in the unconscious seeks outward manifestation, and the personality too desires to evolve out of its unconscious conditions. Jung who was born in Kesswil, Switzerland, in 1875, was a very close associative of Sigmund Freud. Rather, Jung sought a balance in which unconscious elements were given an equal role, complementary to that of consciousness Jung s description of personality types is one of the more straightforward aspects of his theory. Among other things, it helps explain why some people seize on his descriptions of mystical and mythological experience with enthusiasm, while others dismiss them as non scientific nonsense. • 37. Reflection Of African American Literature AFAS 160D: African American Literature is a thought provoking course detailing the dynamic culture and literature African Americans have produced in American society. The readings provided challenge our stereotypical way of thinking when it comes to privilege, discrimination, racism, and oppression. These readings include Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, The Institutionalist by Colson Whitehead, a variety of poems, and more. No matter what content the course puts out, it is always an enjoyable read. The online part is also a positive aspect because it can fit into anyone s tenuous schedule. I rarely have time during the day, so I work on this class either at my shifts as a Desk Assistant on campus or at night, when I can find that free time. I feel neutral about the assignments because for a gen ed, there was quite a lot of work. The assignments were related to the readings and helped me better understand them, but it seemed a little excessive. For this class, the website Notebowl is used instead of D2L. This change tripped me up at first, but over time, I started to understand and get use to it. Notebowl is more online friendly than D2L and allows for better communication across all boards (professor student, TA student, student student). The only downside is the $25 cost and I hope that can be subsidized in the future. In this order, I will tell any potential student about the course and why they should take it. My mind ordered the reasons above in that way because of importance. The meat of the course, the readings, are by far the most essential component of the class. If the readings did not fit the vibe of the class, were few and far between, or were too daunting, then I would not recommend the course. Nonetheless, Professor Carter bestowed upon us glorious readings that were same part intriguing, entertaining, and thought provoking. The readings made the course for me and broadened my library all together and, specifically, for African Americanliterature. What differentiates this class from others is that it is fully online. • 38. Realism And The Struggles Of Women Realism and the Struggles of Women Realism and Naturalism are literary movements that appeared across America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites (Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). On the other hand, naturalism focuses on a more romantic, view of human life than realism (Baym and Levine 902). Authors that concentrated on realism include Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Within their stories, it becomes clear on which issues they are bringing to life. Chopin and Gilman discuss the harsh reality of women during their time in, The Story of an Hour and The Yellow Wall paper. Alternatively, these authors were byproducts for women s rights, as well as realism. Since the dawn of mankind, women are traditionally recognized as the less dominant sex. History has shown that women are against this notion and have been seen fighting for equal rights and freedom. Since the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, also known as the 19th Amendment, women have proven themselves to be just as capable as men. • 40. Tam Lin Relationship Analysis From Blackstock to Nowhere: Relationships and Power Dynamics in Two Retellings of the Ballad of Tam Lin The Scottish folk ballad Tam Lin is a very popular ballad which has inspired many contemporary writers and artists to create their own retellings and reinterpretations. Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones and Tam Linby Pamela Dean are two of these retellings. In these novels, Jones and Dean have masterfully brought the events and characters of the traditional ballad into the modern world. Although both novels have drawn from the same source there are a number of distinct differences between the two, especially when it comes to the relationship between their Janet and Tam Lin characters (Polly Whittacker and Tom Lynn in Fire and Hemlock , and Janet Carter and Thomas Lane in Tam Lin), and the balance of power between them throughout the narrative. While Jones novel is very much centered around the idea of Tam Lin being one of the rare few folk ballads or tales with a female hero and is structured as such to give Polly a position of power and equality in the relationship by the end, Dean seems to approach her retelling of the ballad from a different direction, questioning whether Janet really is as empowered by her role as the hero as it may seem at first. In both novels, the first meeting between the Janet and Tam Lin characters sets a strong base for their initial relationship, especially regarding the power dynamics within that relationship. Usually, they were not proficient to put together the succession of formulaic expression in English language. Therefore, they depend on the learning tool which generates the sequence of formulaic expression. To tackle this, natural languageprocessing is introduced and implemented in the prototype system, GRASP (Grammar and Syntax Based Patternfinder), a reference abet for formulaic expressions which prop up learners prolific expertise. DFP Growth (Dynamic Frequent Pattern Growth) is also used for dynamic data mining. However corpus linguistic sequences are rationalized every day, it wraps up only from the stored data and manages active data in GRASP, which is really a thorny charge. Index Terms GRASP, DFP, NLP I. INTRODUCTION Formulaic language theater a vital task in facilitating inhabitant glibness. Approximately one third to one half of verbal communication is constituted of rudiments from formulas. From the outlook of methodical find out, explore into encourage the argument that formulaic language offers dispensation effectiveness which directly facilitates efficient and effective communication and also contributes to fluency in both spoken and written dissertation. Given the fact that, the development of formulaic language competence is a daunting challenge for many language learners. By using GRASP, formulaic patterns are extracted according to query which ... • 52. Developing Wireless Communications to Space Essay A big potential problem in the future is developing a wireless communications network in outer space. In this paper we will discuss the problems presented with this and the potential solutions to these problems using existing and some futuristic technology. We have broke this into two main parts, one being earth to satellite to planet and back, and the other being planetary ground transmission to and from astronauts to rovers to space stations. The solution has already started being implemented and will continue rapidly into the near future. It is called the Interplanetary Internet. As of now it is an array of floating nodes or satellites scattered around in space that can communicate with each other. In the future a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the earth we are only separated from one another by fractions of a second. From earth to mars the average transmission time is 30 45 minutes. That would feel like light years trying to download tracks to your iPod. In order to make this work a massive system of satellites needs to be implemented. These satellites will serve as net gateways with the purpose of conveying data packets. Each piece of equipment will have its own IPN address, or .mars domain name. They will serve as nodes, operating on a packet switched network. Some major possible problems include lag, weak signal, and reduced bandwidth. The solution to all of these lies in a new IPN protocol being developed. This protocol, along with high precision equipment, will help to eliminated all of these. The protocol has changed in two major ways from our own TCP/IP protocol. This first is a packet delivery scheme that won t clog the system by resending missing packets. IPN instead keeps track of arriving packets and then requesting missing ones at the end of delivery. The second is the packet headers will use only one tenth as much bandwidth as TCP/IP. Back on earth there will be gateways to translate. Another big problem with the Interplanetary Internet is speed. Using our current technology the top speed for sending data from a satellite orbiting mars to earth is 250 kbps. Down on mars, in a dusty unknown atmosphere with not much power, this is more like 10 kbps. The solution ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Ethical Values And Moral Values Ethics in a sense is everything we hold dear to us, meaning our moral values. The development of figuring out what is important to us requires intellectual and critical evaluation. By not developing ones own moral values, you are simply taking the route of taking the moral beliefs given to you by your family or society. You re accepting them because its easier than questioning them. However, this has its setbacks, by choosing not to do ethics you are essentially undermining your own personal freedom of choice. By accepting beliefs of your culturewithout question, then those viewpoints are not truly yours. Another setback to not asking questions is that your reasons or responses will be lacking understanding. Moral principles are might be absolute or might not, even so we apply them to situations may be different and require you to evaluate the situation at hand, which is hard to do if you ve never taken the time to do so before. The third importance is that without taking the time to question and make your own moral code, you then in turn lose intellectual growth. You do not gain new understandings of the ever changing world around you; you become stuck in a stagnant world, which is not reality. I think this class will help me look at moral judgments in a more logical and ethical way. I have already realized from this class that I have based my ethical decisions on my emotion and the way I feel which is only one form of ethics. This class will go over various theories to ... In 1978, the governor Murray MacLehose expanded the free compulsory schooling to nine years those six years in primary education and three years in secondary education. SSEE was suspended and Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) was introduced. Primary school students need to take Academic Aptitude Test (AAT) if they wanted to apply for government secondary schools or subsidized secondary school. After nine year compulsory school, students can work or continue their study according to their abilities. There was a 2 years senior secondary school that leads to Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE). HKCEE was compulsory for the students who want to have further study. There were seven grades from A to U for showing the result of HKCEE. If the student got enough marks from HKCEE, they could study 2 year matriculation course and take Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) or Hong Kong Higher Level Examination (HKHLE).
