Compare And Contrast The Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation and The Emancipation Manifesto were two documents written in the
mid nineteenth century with many similarities. The two were similar in ways, they were abolishing
something that their respective governments believed was wrong, they were different in the way that
they were written for different reasons and had their own purposes. The conditions in both America
and Russia were similar in ways but different in many as well, the two leaders at the time, Abraham
Lincoln and Alexander II chose to solve their problem in a process that also compared and differed
from one another. I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the best solution for the problems
that these countries faced in my opinion.

I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better solution. The Emancipation Proclamation
did so much more than just abolish slavery. It gave the Union a clear cut war objective and that was
for the freedom of the African American slaves. Many African Americans soon joined the fight
because they knew that they were fighting for their own freedom. Lincoln knew as well if he issued
the Emancipation Proclamation it would create chaos in the south when word was received by the
slaves that they were supposed to be free. By issuing the Emancipation Proclamation Lincoln also
made it very difficult for any foreign nations to join in on the side of the Confederacy. The British of
the French could never join in on the war because they themselves had abolished slavery years ago
and the view of them in the world would decrease immensely if they were to join a war to support
slavery. All these reasons are why I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better
solution out of the two

Peloponnesian War Essay
There were two sides to the Peloponnesian War, Sparta and Athens. Athens was the head of the Delian
League, and Sparta was the head of the older Peloponnesian League. The war lasted from
approximately 460 to 404 BCE. There were two parts of the war. The first lasted from 406 to 446
BCE. The second part, the most important stage, was from 431 to 404 BCE. Both Sparta and Athens
were two very powerful forces in Ancient Greece (Cartwright). They never really trusted or liked each
other. Even though they united against Persia together, they never could get along. The two city states
had some fights every once in awhile. To help prevent this, they created a treaty in 445 BCE called the
Thirty Years Peace. Both agreed to have it renewed and checked ... Show more content on

Some of which included the ongoing rivalry of the two city states. They both felt intimidated by the
other s growing power. Sparta feared Athens naval power and their allies. Second, Sparta was
threatened by Athens project to reconstruct their Long Wall. It would keep their harbor of Piraeus safe
from outside forces. They were also scared that the other dominate city state, Corinth would align with
Athens (Cartwright). Third, a fight between two other city states, Corcyra and Corinth broke out.
Athens decided to helped Corcyra, but Sparta helped Corinth. Sparta chose to try to keep the peace
and not go against the treaty at first. To negotiate this, Sparta decided to ask Athens to get rid of the
law that one of the people apart of the Peloponnesian League could not trade with Athens. The Delian
League rejected this negotiation. Therefore, a message was sent by the Peloponnesian League that
said, Sparta wants peace. Peace is still possible if you will give the Greeks their freedom. Perikles, a
politician in Athens, asked the people of the city state to vote to go to war. He said they were stronger
than Sparta because of their powerful navy (Gard). Moreover, a war broke out between Sparta and

Verbal Reaction Times Experiment Essay
This report aimed to replicate Stroop s (1935) experiment. Using the repeated measures design and a
sample of 20 students, differences in verbal reaction times on two tests were observed. The one tailed
hypothesis predicted that it would take longer to say words in the Cc, this is the conflicting condition
where the colour of the word differs from the colour that the word describes. It was found that, using
the t test for related data, this hypothesis could be accepted as the obtained value was much greater
then the critical value. It can therefore be concluded that visual interference does affect people s verbal
reactions.
Introduction
In 1935 John Ridley Stroop published his Ph.D. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, automatic processes are hard to amend once learnt. Kahneman proposed his
capacity/resource allocation model in 1973 (see Figure 1):
Figure 1
This model could provide an explanation for the Stroop Effect as the visual interference of the
conflicting colour could be described as a momentary intention (a voluntary shift of attention). This is
because the participant has to force his/herself to read the word and not say the colour of it. This
therefore means that, according to Kahneman, the central processor has trouble deciding between
tasks (in this case, between reading the actual word or the colour of it). This could be an explanation
for the expected delay in the condition where the colour of the word is different to the colour that the
word describes.
Aims and Hypotheses
Aim
The aim of this report is to replicate Stroop s original (1935) experiment.
Alternative Hypothesis
Words that are coloured in conflicting colours to that which the text describes (conflicting condition,
Cc) will take significantly longer to process than words coloured in the same colour that the text
describes (similar condition, CS). This is a one tailed (directional) hypothesis.
Null Hypothesis
The colour interference does not affect the participants

Linux
Linux is a UNIX base operating system. Its original creator was a Finnish student name Linus
Torvalds , although being open source it has change a great deal since its original conception. It
belongs to nobody, and is free to download and use. Any changes to it are open for all to adopt, and as
a result it has developed into a very powerful OS that is rapidly gaining in popularity worldwide,
particularly among those seeking an alternative to Windows.

Responsibility To Obey Law
As an American citizen, I believe it is the American people s duty and responsibility to obey the law,
pay taxes, and serve in court. The law provided by our system of government allows for optimum
function and potential required for a nation to thrive. Obeying the law leads to a safe and protected
society which is beneficial to the American people. And remember, the law also makes sure the
leaders of our country to do exploit its citizens. Those who break the law, whether it be local, state or
nation wide, are promoting danger and chaos within our borders. Secondly, I consider paying taxes to
be another duty the American people must commit to and follow. Taxes keep our society operating and

The Importance Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream: Is is fact or fiction? In the United States Declaration of Independence, our
founding fathers set forth the idea of an American Dream by providing us with the recognizable
phrase Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness . The green light at the end of Daisy Buchanan s
dock symbolizes Jay Gatsby s Pursuit of Happiness in the novel, The Great Gatsby, set in the 1920s on
Long Island, New York. The American Dream can be defined as the belief that anyone, regardless of
where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain their own version of success in a
society where upward mobility is possible for everyone. The American Dream is achieved through
sacrifice, risk taking, and hard work, not by chance (Fontinelle, Amy). At the birth of our country in
1776, our founding fathers introduced the American Dream as a personal desire to pursue happiness;
however, the pursuit of happiness was not intended to promote self indulgence, rather to act as a
catalyst to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit. As our country has changed, the idea of the American
Dream, in some cases, has evolved into the pursuit of one s own indulgences such as material gain
regardless of the consequences. As American broke away from the Great Britain powers, the idea of
an American Dream began to take shape. Written by our founding fathers in 1776, the Declaration of
Independence states We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they

Land Of Hope Analysis
The Land of Hope In 1945 August 6th, two atomic bombs stroke Hiroshima, led to death of more than
100,000 people. In March 11th 2011, tsunami and earthquake severely destroyed the Nuclear Power
Plant in Fukushima and led to evacuation of 120,000 local residents. But the effect of the 311 nuclear
disaster had much more severe impact on Japanese everyday lives because the aftermath of nuclear
leakage is much worse than nuclear explosion. The evacuated residents have lost their homes and still
trying hard to rebuild their life somewhere in the country. Land of Hope , is a movie released in 2012
which depicts a story about a country side Japanese family s decision while facing separation, unsure
of the future and death after nuclear disaster. At the beginning of the movie, the nuclear plant in
Nagashima (a fictional city) was destroyed by earthquake and tsunami, which further led to nuclear
leakage. The government later took charge of the emergency and noticed people within the 20km
radius to evacuate. Ono san, the older father of the Ono family refused to do so and ended his life at
the end of the movie. Why Ono destroyed himself whereas the others struggled so hard to survive?
Sono Sion, the filmmaker tried to tell us the cause of the nuclear disaster through Ono s death: It was
the government, who we relied and have faith on, took away everything from their people and made
them hopeless. Nuclear energy: another disaster waiting to happen? As the world leading

difficulties in terms of providing the necessary resources which are essential in the educational needs
.This brought the need of Cloud Computing. Cloud computing provides the necessary flexibility over
the Internet in delivering the models that uses powerful systems and networks having distributed
hardware and the software. The use and cost of cloud computing varies depending on the user and
how much he uses it. In this paper, I discuss about basic concepts of cloud computing along with its
current and future applications, technical issues, trade offs and highlight on how on cloud computing
Technology can be implemented in university environment making an effort to reduce the cost and
improve service. This technology named as Cloud Technology or Cloud Computing was just a

A Fine Line Between Utilizing Natural Rights and Breaking the Law Everyone is entitled to natural
rights such as freedom of speech, freedom to protest, and freedom of beliefs or religion. However,
these are personal, or private, rights, and are therefore limited in the work force. Once one brings these
personal rights, more specifically freedom of religion, into the work force, they violate the separation
of church and state. The separation of church and state is simply a law preventing government
officials to serve with biased opinions based on personal beliefs. All government agents are expected
to serve with an unbiased opinion, and it is difficult to do that if one ... Show more content on

Kim Davis has sparked the interests of thousands all over the country, and even some all over the
world. In getting everyone s attention, Kim Davis has managed to stir up quite an argument as well.
Although this dispute has gotten a bit messy, underneath the crossfire of conflicting opinions, there are
the underlying truths of the story. Kim Davis is a citizen of the United States, and as a U.S. citizen,
Davis s personal beliefs, and the freedom to express them, are protected by the First Amendment of
the U.S. Constitution, which states, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or
the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of
grievances (US Const. amend. I). Proponents of Davis argue that not only does she have the freedom
to believe what she wants, but she has the freedom to express her beliefs as well. Though Kim Davis s
beliefs are protected by the First Amendment, the right for same sex couples to marry is protected by
section one of the Fourteenth Amendment, which states, No state shall make or enforce any law which
shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens

Is there anything more rewarding than a fish or a lobster at dinner that you caught earlier in the day in

people living in the city, whose age ranges between 35 and 60 years. Due to the exclusivity and

Biomedical Model Health Psychology
Health Psychology is the field of psychology that focusses on studying the psychological and applying
knowledge to the processes of health, health care and illness. (BPS, 2014). Health Psychologists study
these and their influence on health, illnesses and patients responses to them. To explain the human
problems people suffer key theories will be explained below and whether they address these problems.
One of the early models of health psychology was the Biomedical Model. This model explained
illness in terms of one causal factor, and said that illness is purely biological and that the mind and
body are separate. The model also focuses on the illness rather than the health of the individual.
However the approach is reductionist as it reduces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pain is a biological mechanism which aids survival and can be perceived as a warning of damage to
the body. (Britishpainsociety, 2014). Pain is multidimensional as it includes psychological aspects,
biological aspects and behavioural aspects. Pain is also subjective as the situation plays a part. This is
shown in Beecher s study. Soldiers s who were severely wounded in world war two, 49% of these
were in moderate severe pain, and 32% accepted medication. However civilians who had similar
injuries but less severe 75% were in moderate to severe pain and 83% took medication when offered.
(Beecher, 1956). This helps us address the problem of why some people may decline medication and
different people s perceived pain

Commodification Of Halloween
With the increase in reinterpretations of death and Halloween symbols, two fundamental things
occurred, the mass commodification of Halloween and a decontextualization of the symbols of death.
In 1978 the premiere of Halloween, directed by John Carpenter, directly placed the holiday itself in
relation to horror and gruesome death, more so than the introduction of gothic horror ever did (Rogers
110; Khapaeva 58). The introduction of explicit horror, according to Rogers, created. a coded
language that enables authors and invites their audiences to explore their fears, hidden desires, and
anxieties (110). This established a creative space in which fantasy and dissociation could be merged
creating a popularization of death without actually dealing with the reality of death itself. It created a
space where the narrative of horror and death could be controlled and regulated, through established
archetypes. This directly contrasted the collective psyche of the 1970s and 80s in the United States,
which was dealing with the ramifications of the AIDS epidemic (the worst epidemic since Polio), and
an increase in social, religious, and political conservatism (Khapaeva 78). Through horror movies and
Halloween, social anxieties could be dealt with in an a political and creative way, while still
maintaining the sanitized separation of hospital and culture.
In the contemporary period, Halloween s popularity has increased. Personal expenditures on
Halloween have drastically increased since the 2000s, to create a multi billion dollar industry, which
has expanded the cultural awareness and practice of Halloween (Khapaeva 57). However, this
expansion has led to the commodification of Halloween, by equating it with consumer culture. This
has significant implications for the cultural conception of death as it equate previously potent symbols
with cheap goods. But this might have been by design, as Grider argues that the mass
commercialization of Halloween is another way in which collectively western culture can control the
potentially dangerous incursion of the supernatural world in our everyday lives (10). Through the
ownership of material goods associated with Halloween, the narrative and context of the concepts are
further

Essay on Inconstancy in Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
Inconstancy in Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) explains inconstancy as the recurrent and generally unexpected
or impulsive change from one condition to another. It is the state or quality of being inconstant and
unfaithful by virtue of being undependable or deceitful. Set in Messina, Sicily, Shakespeare s Much
Ado About Nothing is a very popular play generally viewed as one of his happiest comedies and is
often performed in theatres. However, the playfulness and cheerfulness of the play is haunted by a
cloud of melancholy which tells readers of the potential dangers and pain that can result from
miscommunication, deceit and treachery. This play has two entwining plots; one revolves around the

Some critics have argued that in the end, Benedict and Beatrice are not significantly different from
Claudio and Hero (Bevington 218). The play reveals a fundamental inadequacy of the human nature in
dealing with the social world which has two mutually mistrusting genders. Humans are likely to
harbour outrageous tendencies, even when they think they are being very sensible and their
inadequacies are what cause so much ado about nothing . The important question is whether a person
can survive all that meaningless ado (Auden 115).
Leonato stays in Messina with Hero, his daughter, Beatrice, a humorous and clever niece and,
Antonio, his elderly brother and Beatrice s father. Leonato welcomes some friends, soldiers from war:
Claudio, Benedict, Don Pedro and Don John. Claudio immediately falls in love with Hero and decides
to marry her while Beatrice and Benedict start their war of humorous insults but eventually fall in
love. Don John plans to disrupt everyone s happiness by staging a scene where Claudio and Don
Pedro see a woman they believe to be Hero making love to another man. Claudio is represented as an
inconsistent and disreputable lover who is quick to doubt his bride to be, Hero. He gets angry and
accuses Hero of unfaithfulness on their wedding day and leaves her at the altar. Hero family device a

The People Processes New Information Based On Their...
People processes new information based on their learning styles. VAK learning styles are designed to
describe how an individual processes information. VAK stands for Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic.
The VAK learning style uses these three senses in order to determine a person s dominate learning
style. In theory, an individual usually prefers to learn through one of these senses more than another.
Everybody, including your family members, friends and strangers may have the same or a different
learning style. Some individuals have a mixture of these three learning styles, which is not
uncommon. It all depends on how one perceives and retains information. As individuals we all learn
differently. Although people have a dominate style of learning; most learners tend to use all three
senses to understand information given to them. These three styles include: Visual, Auditory, and
Kinesthetic. For example, one might prefer a type of learning over another in order to complete a task
rather than their own dominate learning style. By understanding the three learning styles, it can help
out a student to better able to focus on his or her studying on specific techniques to increase their level
of knowledge and perhaps help them through a difficult class. Visual learners tend to learn and
remember through seeing and reading. This can involve pictures, handouts, diagrams or
demonstrations. Auditory learning involves listening to information in order to learn through words

Evaluation Of A Research Methodology
Overview of the Research Methodology
This research methodology is an action plan because the researcher is trying to create a improvement
plan in her own school. This will be working with at risk and special education students in the math
classroom and ways to better serve those students using differentiated instruction and technology to
help lessen the educational gaps those students have and to raise MAP scores.
Proposed Research Design
The proposed research plan will include two classrooms of at risk and special education students math
classes. Incorporating technology and researched based instruction to help increase MAP scores and
student understanding. The instruments used will be pre and post tests, MAP scores for the year,
informal daily bell ringer and teacher responses. This unit will take one quarter to complete and will
help in looking at further instruction in math for these students in years to come. Because of the small
sampling and that it is based in one school an action methodology is the best fit.
Sampling Techniques
The sampling pool includes two sections of Math 1.5, consisting of 18 students in one class and 13 in
the other. All participating students were placed in Math 1.5 by either teacher placement, MAP scores
or IEP requirements. Of of the 31 students, 18 are boys and 13 are girls. The school district has a high

Power is a symbol of success that everyone wishes to obtain, both in one s personal life and in one s

power, with the wardens and guards having the control in their hands. Without these occupations,
there would not be any enforced regulations, which are an essential component when working with

sentence. Once Dufresne becomes situated, he befriends Red, a fellow inmate who is also convicted of
murder. He asks this newly acquired friend to smuggle items into the prison for him, including a rock
hammer and various posters of women, and Red does so promptly. After working numerous labor
intensive days in the prison s laundry facility, Dufresne decides to sign up for a project to re roof the
prison. During his task, Dufresne eavesdrops on the conversation of the guards, and he learns that
Captain Byron Hadley is having financial trouble. Hadley threatens to take Andy s life, but he spares
him knowing that Andy gave him sound advice. Upon seeing Andy s financial talents, Warden Norton
asks Andy to launder money for him, as well as help the guards complete their taxes. During this time,
Andy constantly works to get funds for the dilapidated library. When he receives a shipment of books
and music for the library, he plays music over intercom and ignores the Warden s request to turn it off.
This stunt earns Andy solitary confinement. Tommy, a young prisoner convicted of burglary, soon
appears in Andy s circle of friends. Andy helps Tommy receive his GED, for Tommy has never
graduated from high school. One day, Tommy reveals that Andy is innocent, and when he goes to
Norton s office, Norton refuses to help him. Andy calls Norton obtuse and is awarded solitary
confinement for two months. During his time in solitary confinement, Norton murders Tommy for fear
of losing his most prized prisoner, Dufresne, who launders money for him. After being released,
Dufresne tells Red about Zihuatanejo, a Mexican city on the Pacific Ocean. Andy states that if he were

The Ethics Of Care Framework
classroom teachers lacks significantly, especially when the child is in some inclusion classes (Costley,
2013). Therefore, using the Ethics of Care framework, this solution would not allow Mrs. Miller to be
responsible, competent or responsive. This article demonstrates specifically the responsiveness deficit
in educational systems.
Although Ethics of Care is the most appropriate framework to use when assessing this situation, a
consequentialist may argue that this could be an acceptable solution because it provides the greater
good for the greater amount of people. Mrs. Miller will benefit her entire new class along with her
own family by bringing in a larger income. She will be able to provide her experience and knowledge
towards her new class who will most likely succeed in school and advance to high end universities and
further provide for her family. Yet, consequentialist solutions do not acknowledge the needs of all
stakeholders. The Special Education students will be at a disadvantage in the classroom, because Ms.
Smith is not fully prepared to teach them.
The decision to have Mrs. Miller teach solely the special education class does not allow her to meet
the criteria of all four elements of care. If this solution is chosen, Mrs. Miller cannot guarantee
sufficient salary to support her four children on her own. According to the Ethics of Care framework,
this would not allow her to abide by the four elements of care. She would recognize her children s

The Issue Of Public Health
Summary
The term Public Health describes how a society strives to keep the conditions of the public to be
healthy to all individuals. The healthcare industry continues to change for the good of society,
although the pedagogy in the universities that teaches our future healthcare professionals are lagging
in their changes to the curriculum. There is a need to change our public health major to a population
health major. Population health is not just policies and programs to keep public society healthy, it is an
approach that looks at all the factors that can influence healthy individuals over the course of their
lives. There are many benefits to this change. Students of University of Arkansas will benefit because
this change will give our undergraduates the advantage to compete for the best healthcare careers in
the industry. The University benefits are the promise of attracting more healthcare degree sought
students and the potential to work together with healthcare businesses to shape the curriculum so that
it is exactly what is needed. This change will cost the university professor s time and research but the
future outcome is notably leading the healthcare education in the right direction.
Introduction
The Public Health s program of study should be expanded because the landscape of healthcare has
changed. My proposal is to change the curriculum and title to Population Health to better equip
students with the knowledge about current issues facing health within the

An Effective Water Protection For Human Consumption
The most important thing that sustains life on Earth is Water. The fact that there is limited available
drinking water on Earth, we should look towards improving this limited resource for the betterment of
human society. The important step towards this could be to prevent drinking water problem from
arising in the first place, therefore necessitating the need to formulate an effective water protection
plan. To protect this limited resource, we must manage the human activities that creates these threats.

The Relationship Between The Kongolese And The Portuguese...
Introduction The Portuguese first made contact with the Kongolese in the 1400s sparking a long and
varied relationship between the two kingdoms. In order to better understand how this relationship
played a part in the trade, colonization, and warfare of this region of Africa, the following paper will
discuss the relationship between the Kongolese and the Portuguese up until the Battle of Mbwila, what
occurred at the Battle of Mbwila, and how this battle effectively destroyed the Kingdom of Kongo in
the latter part of the 17th century.
The Kongo Kingdom Portuguese Angola The predecessors of many Angolans moved from different
parts of Africa much sooner than the arrival of the first Portuguese in the late 1400s. By the time of the
Portuguese s landing in Africa, the Kongo Kingdom was already founded in the northwestern part of
modern day Angola. The first Portuguese to explore the Congo River had many intentions. They
planned to bring religion, to promote European ideas of civilization, to find and use resources, and
eventually to build up the slave trade. By the mid 1400s, the Kongo Kingdom was the most influential
of the states located along Africa s Atlantic coastline. The kingdom had been founded in the late 1300s
by a party of Bakongo, which is the plural for Kongolese individuals. These Bakongo had ventured
south of the Congo River into northwestern Angola. The Bakongo then defeated the local population
and built the capital city of Mbanza Kongo, which translates as

The American Dream Of Home Ownership
Too many Americans have fallen victim to the crisis that has become the norm for our citizens these
days. Lenders no longer want to work with individuals who have gone through the foreclosure process
and for many it is not only their homes they lose. Some have lost their jobs and/or families, others fall
into a deep depression and worst of all some have taken their own lives. An alternative would be for
lenders to add a true customer service department which is not based on pay or get out, but is
counseling based to keep Americans in the American Dream of home ownership. This would not only
keep their customers for future business with new home loans, but would be noticed by neighbors and
the community who are appreciative their home values are not decreasing. The lenders would counsel
them through the sale by assisting them with getting the most they can for their home. By getting local
community organizations involved to help with home repairs and curb appeal. Once the home is
market ready and a dollar amount has been reached for these repairs the home owner will have to
volunteer time and/or resources to assist another person going through the same situation. This would
not only help the homeowner but will keep homes in the area selling at a fair market value and not
bring down the values in their neighborhood. The assistance provided by the lenders and assistance
from the community will help build their self confidence and make them feel like they are not alone.

Changing Perspective Toward Health And Illness Essay
Over past 150 years, the world has witnessed changes in environment, society and people s lifestyle
that alter human disease patterns and distribution. Leading causes of death shift from infectious to
chronic diseases (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). To effectively tackle new health issues, changing
perspective toward health and illness is required (Engel, 1977). In this assignment, transition from
biomedical model to the social models in response to changes in health trend will first be discussed
and followed by the application of social models to explain the high rates of acute rheumatic fever
(ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in New Zealand (NZ).
Urbanisation and industrialisation in 1990s led to overcrowding and poor sanitation resulting in the
spread of cholera, TB, typhoid, influenza, and malaria. These infectious diseases were the main cause
of mortality rate during that time (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). After WWII, there was a rapid fall in
global mortality rates due to improved public health standard that curtailed, if not eradicated various
infectious diseases (Browne, 2005).
The improved longevity was very obvious especially in developed countries, for example, U.S.
population life span was 47 years in 1900s but had reached 77 years by the end of the 20th century
(Stien, 2008). This was accompanied by an epidemiological transition to new patterns and distribution
of disease, from infectious to chronic, degenerative diseases such as cancer, RHD,

How Did Germany s Rise To World Power
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Germany s military thought they had a chance of becoming a world
power, only if some sort of series of events had occurred which had given them a chance to show their
potential. On June 28, 1924, the heir to the Austro Hungarian Empire, Archduke Franz Ferdinand had
been shot to death by a Serbian nationalist. This incident was used to justify declaring Slav
nationalism, and soon this set off a rapid chain of events. Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany gave Austria

Reflection of Juduasm Essay
Judaism is a religious tradition with origins dating back nearly four thousand years, rooted in the
ancient region of Canaan, which is now known as the land between Israel and Palestine. Judaism did
not emerge until the 1st century C.E. Judaism traces its heritage to the covenant God made with
Abraham and his lineage that God would make them a sacred people and give them a holy land. The
primary characters of Israelite culture include the great patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the
prophet Moses, who received God s law at Mt. Sinai. Judaism is a tradition grounded in the religious,
ethical, and social laws as they are articulated in the Torah. The Torah is known as the first first five

There are many different ways of practicing Judaism that are amongst us today, and many different
types of people that practice them. The traits and traditions that I find to be significant and interesting
in Judaism are Hanukkah, a Bar Mitzvah, and The Kashrut. There are many more traits and traditions
of Judaism that I favor, and there are many traits and traditions that I might question if I thought about

Essay on Africa
Africa s Resistance to the Portuguese
The African history has been affected tremendously due to the influence of some European countries.
Portugal, who probably had the greatest impact on the continent, was not shy in invading what they
thought to be profitable circumstances. One of these areas that they profited from was the kingdom of
Kongo. Kongo was a major Bantu speaking kingdom astride the Congo River in west central Africa,
probably founded in the 14th century. It was governed by a king, the manikongo, whose economic
power was based upon trade in ivory, hides, slaves, and a shell currency of western Africa.

By 1570 the power of the Kongo kingdom had begun to decline, and severe internal tensions had
developed. Alfonso I knowing what was going on wrote a series of papers to King Joao III of
Portugal. In these papers, Alfonso I pleaded with the king to take away all the corrupt Portuguese from
his kingdom. With false assurance from the king of Portugal, he asked to have sent those people of
religious and medical backgrounds to help modernize his kingdom. With the corruptness still
noticeable in the Kongo, Alfonso I was forced to pass a law stating that ...any white man living in our
Kingdoms and wanting to purchase goods in any way should first inform three of our noblemen and
officials of our court whom we rely upon in this matter... (57). These futile attempts of writing letters
to the king were not making any significance. The king of Portugal was money hungry along with the
majority of all his servants who worked for him down in Africa.
Some of the areas of Africa knew that letters to the king would not work alone. They were forced to
use action against the Portuguese. People known as Zimba did the military launches. Most of the
attacks were economically motivated. They were being used for the trade circuit. Zimba attacks were
successful against the Portuguese but they did not succeed in reestablishing the traditional market for
their ivory.

High Glycemic Index Diet Associations With Depression
In this review, we highlight the recent findings on high glycemic index diet associations with
depression. We focus on GI, GL, high calorie diet and BMI and describe biological and behavioral
mechanisms in relation to GI Depression
Introduction:
The consumption of sweetened beverages, refined foods, and pastries has been shown to be associated
with an increased risk of depression in longitudinal studies. However, any influence that refined
carbohydrates has on mood could be commensurate with their proportion in the overall diet; studies
are therefore needed that measure overall intakes of carbohydrate and sugar, glycemic index (GI), and
glycemic load.

The glycemic load (GL) of food is a number that estimates how much the food will raise a person s
blood glucose level after eating it. One unit of glycemic load approximates the effect of consuming
one gram of glucose. Glycemic load accounts for how much carbohydrate is in the food and how
much each gram of carbohydrate in the food raises blood glucose levels. Glycemic load is based on
the glycemic index (GI), and is calculated by multiplying the grams of available carbohydrate in the
food times the food s GI and then dividing by 100.
Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person s thoughts,
behavior, feelings and sense of well being. People with depressed mood can feel sad, anxious, empty,
hopeless, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable, ashamed or restless. They may lose interest in activities
that were once pleasurable, experience loss of appetite or overeating, have problems concentrating,
remembering details or making decisions, and may contemplate, attempt or commit suicide. Insomnia,
excessive sleeping, fatigue, aches, pains, digestive problems or reduced energy may also be present.
Depressed mood is a feature of some psychiatric syndromes such as major depressive disorder, but it
may also be a normal reaction to life events such as grief, a symptom of some bodily ailments or a
side effect of some drugs and medical treatments.

Comparing Cultures

Comparing Cultures
When comparing cultures, one must form a definition of what culture is. Culture can be easily defined
as the social behavior and normality s found in human societies. It can also be easily made up of a
composed arrangement of educated conduct and thought designs. Culture is a sorted out framework
since it includes many parts. Throughout the world, there are many cultures that are both very
different and also very similar. Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our
language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at table, how we greet
visitors, how we behave and one million other things. (Cristina De Rossi.) ... Show more content on

In people, culture must be learned through experiences. For most countries, learned behaviors are
passed down from one generation to the next. The purpose behind this is on the grounds that culture
isn t natural like in creatures because they are not conceived with it. People will begin to get their way
of life during childbirth and it takes numerous years to take in the way of life like how to talk the
dialect and comply with the rules that everyone must follow, that is the reason it is said we should
respect their elders.
The two countries that we are going to compare are India and China. The greatest contrast among
Indian China is the level of development in both nations. Advancement can be seeing more in India
than in China and the struck me the most. There could be many variables causing this distinction. To
begin with, let s examine the differences in the government of meat country. Since the meaning of
time, the Chinese government is continuing to do things their way heavily influencing what happens
in the country. They have inumerous laws that directly or indirectly cause a standstill with innovation.

bloodiest fighting of the war in the next four months. Anzio was originally supposed to be a

Persuasive Essay On Pet Animals
I have had pets, specially cats, since the day I was born. Some of these cats my family bought from a
family with a litter of kittens they needed to get rid of. Others we got from humane societies. Over the
years, I have had 6 different pet cats, not all at once of course. The most memorable were the ones that
were rescued from a shelter because we saved them from the lonely, tiny cages that they were forced
to live in day in and day out. As we were looking for the most recent additions, I grew tired of looking
in shelters, not because it was time consuming finding the right one, but because of all the sad faces
that stared back at me from the cages. Adopting and rescuing is the better option when it comes to

Some people may think that only sick animals are in shelters or that shelter animals aren t healthy
enough to adopt, but that s not true. There are sick animals, but they are treated for their illnesses by
veterinarians and watched carefully by volunteers and staff. They are not eligible for adoption until
they pass their vet exam. No matter where you get your pet from, whether it be breeder or shelter,
there is a chance they could get sick at some point in their life.
The adopter will benefit by seeing their new family member thrive and watching their personality
emerge. They will also feel the sense of having saved a life because in a way they did. Older animals
spend approximately 4 times more time in shelters than younger ones, which may make adopting an
older animal seem pointless because you may only get to have them for a few years, but if you do it,
you are giving an animal the most amazing end to their lives and a good home to live out their golden
years in (Madrone). They may even surprise you by living longer than they are expected to. Adopting
an animal from a shelter is also cheaper in the long run. Animals from shelters are spayed or neutered
before they can be adopted. They have also likely visited the vet to get shots and make sure they are
generally in good health. They are usually microchipped. If you were to buy an animal elsewhere, you

What Is The Theme Of Summer Love In Birnam Woods
The short story, Birnam Woods, by T.C. Boyle, revolves around a dysfunctional couple s journey to
survive in a harsh winter. While Keith struggles to earn a living as a substitute teacher, Nora has a
degree but does not care to find a job. Together they live in a shack without electricity, so they try to
find a new home. They become house sitters for a rich old couple. Later Nora proceeds to find a job as
a hostess at a restaurant. After Keith meets Steve at Nora s workplace, they discuss Keith and Nora s
relationship, which Keith reveals lacks passion. This discussion opens the door for Steve to make a
move on Nora. As Steve approaches Nora with a poem and Tequila, Nora doesn t resist his charm.
Dejected, Keith then leaves the house and finds a couple in their bedroom, passionless like the winter.
The scene makes Keith realize that when passion dies, so does the relationship. In the end, Keith
discovers that he and Nora have been living the winter life, and Nora has moved on in search of
another summer life. Boyle s story shows the bell curve of a relationship with summer as the climax
and winter as the low point. Therefore, Boyle tells the reader to enjoy the young, summer love while it
lasts, before winter comes.
Relationships does not last forever; the love between the two lovers can also be broken up by physical
and mental events. Also, love very often represents youth, because

Marika-Alderton House Analysis
Glenn Murcutt, Pritzker Architecture Prize winning architect, designed the Marika Alderton House for
Aboriginal leader Banduk Marika and her husband. The Marika Alderton House sits in North Australia
in Yirrkala, an indigenous community in Arnhem Land on a landscape facing a beach on the gulf of
Carpentaria. The house links back to Aboriginal huts while focusing on the extremities of the weather
in the surrounding environment. The house was seen as a link between Aboriginal and White

that could withstand the wet and dry seasons of the Yirrkala area. The house is divided allowing for
use throughout the whole year. The main living area is located on the east side of the house to allow
for ventilation during the day, while the bedrooms are too the west which are coolest at night. The

cold climate. The house opens out on every side to provide ventilation throughout, together with the
shutters allows air to be channeled through the house. The low pressure of the hot air causes it to rise,
pulling the cool air in. The house was designed to sit on stilts. This is to keep various species of

  • 2. Compare And Contrast The Emancipation Proclamation The Emancipation Proclamation and The Emancipation Manifesto were two documents written in the mid nineteenth century with many similarities. The two were similar in ways, they were abolishing something that their respective governments believed was wrong, they were different in the way that they were written for different reasons and had their own purposes. The conditions in both America and Russia were similar in ways but different in many as well, the two leaders at the time, Abraham Lincoln and Alexander II chose to solve their problem in a process that also compared and differed from one another. I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the best solution for the problems that these countries faced in my opinion. The problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better solution. The Emancipation Proclamation did so much more than just abolish slavery. It gave the Union a clear cut war objective and that was for the freedom of the African American slaves. Many African Americans soon joined the fight because they knew that they were fighting for their own freedom. Lincoln knew as well if he issued the Emancipation Proclamation it would create chaos in the south when word was received by the slaves that they were supposed to be free. By issuing the Emancipation Proclamation Lincoln also made it very difficult for any foreign nations to join in on the side of the Confederacy. The British of the French could never join in on the war because they themselves had abolished slavery years ago and the view of them in the world would decrease immensely if they were to join a war to support slavery. All these reasons are why I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better solution out of the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Peloponnesian War Essay There were two sides to the Peloponnesian War, Sparta and Athens. Athens was the head of the Delian League, and Sparta was the head of the older Peloponnesian League. The war lasted from approximately 460 to 404 BCE. There were two parts of the war. The first lasted from 406 to 446 BCE. The second part, the most important stage, was from 431 to 404 BCE. Both Sparta and Athens were two very powerful forces in Ancient Greece (Cartwright). They never really trusted or liked each other. Even though they united against Persia together, they never could get along. The two city states had some fights every once in awhile. To help prevent this, they created a treaty in 445 BCE called the Thirty Years Peace. Both agreed to have it renewed and checked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of which included the ongoing rivalry of the two city states. They both felt intimidated by the other s growing power. Sparta feared Athens naval power and their allies. Second, Sparta was threatened by Athens project to reconstruct their Long Wall. It would keep their harbor of Piraeus safe from outside forces. They were also scared that the other dominate city state, Corinth would align with Athens (Cartwright). Third, a fight between two other city states, Corcyra and Corinth broke out. Athens decided to helped Corcyra, but Sparta helped Corinth. Sparta chose to try to keep the peace and not go against the treaty at first. To negotiate this, Sparta decided to ask Athens to get rid of the law that one of the people apart of the Peloponnesian League could not trade with Athens. The Delian League rejected this negotiation. Therefore, a message was sent by the Peloponnesian League that said, Sparta wants peace. Peace is still possible if you will give the Greeks their freedom. Perikles, a politician in Athens, asked the people of the city state to vote to go to war. He said they were stronger than Sparta because of their powerful navy (Gard). Moreover, a war broke out between Sparta and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Verbal Reaction Times Experiment Essay This report aimed to replicate Stroop s (1935) experiment. Using the repeated measures design and a sample of 20 students, differences in verbal reaction times on two tests were observed. The one tailed hypothesis predicted that it would take longer to say words in the Cc, this is the conflicting condition where the colour of the word differs from the colour that the word describes. It was found that, using the t test for related data, this hypothesis could be accepted as the obtained value was much greater then the critical value. It can therefore be concluded that visual interference does affect people s verbal reactions. Introduction In 1935 John Ridley Stroop published his Ph.D. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, automatic processes are hard to amend once learnt. Kahneman proposed his capacity/resource allocation model in 1973 (see Figure 1): [IMAGE] Figure 1 This model could provide an explanation for the Stroop Effect as the visual interference of the conflicting colour could be described as a momentary intention (a voluntary shift of attention). This is because the participant has to force his/herself to read the word and not say the colour of it. This therefore means that, according to Kahneman, the central processor has trouble deciding between tasks (in this case, between reading the actual word or the colour of it). This could be an explanation for the expected delay in the condition where the colour of the word is different to the colour that the word describes. Aims and Hypotheses Aim The aim of this report is to replicate Stroop s original (1935) experiment. Alternative Hypothesis Words that are coloured in conflicting colours to that which the text describes (conflicting condition, Cc) will take significantly longer to process than words coloured in the same colour that the text describes (similar condition, CS). This is a one tailed (directional) hypothesis. Null Hypothesis

The law provided by our system of government allows for optimum function and potential required for a nation to thrive. Obeying the law leads to a safe and protected society which is beneficial to the American people. And remember, the law also makes sure the leaders of our country to do exploit its citizens. Those who break the law, whether it be local, state or nation wide, are promoting danger and chaos within our borders. • 8. The Importance Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby The American Dream: Is is fact or fiction? In the United States Declaration of Independence, our founding fathers set forth the idea of an American Dream by providing us with the recognizable phrase Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness . The green light at the end of Daisy Buchanan s dock symbolizes Jay Gatsby s Pursuit of Happiness in the novel, The Great Gatsby, set in the 1920s on Long Island, New York. The American Dream can be defined as the belief that anyone, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain their own version of success in a society where upward mobility is possible for everyone. The American Dream is achieved through sacrifice, risk taking, and hard work, not by chance (Fontinelle, Amy). At the birth of our country in 1776, our founding fathers introduced the American Dream as a personal desire to pursue happiness; however, the pursuit of happiness was not intended to promote self indulgence, rather to act as a catalyst to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit. As our country has changed, the idea of the American Dream, in some cases, has evolved into the pursuit of one s own indulgences such as material gain regardless of the consequences. As American broke away from the Great Britain powers, the idea of an American Dream began to take shape. Written by our founding fathers in 1776, the Declaration of Independence states We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are ... The evacuated residents have lost their homes and still trying hard to rebuild their life somewhere in the country. Land of Hope , is a movie released in 2012 which depicts a story about a country side Japanese family s decision while facing separation, unsure of the future and death after nuclear disaster. At the beginning of the movie, the nuclear plant in Nagashima (a fictional city) was destroyed by earthquake and tsunami, which further led to nuclear leakage. The government later took charge of the emergency and noticed people within the 20km radius to evacuate. Ono san, the older father of the Ono family refused to do so and ended his life at the end of the movie. Why Ono destroyed himself whereas the others struggled so hard to survive? However, these are personal, or private, rights, and are therefore limited in the work force. Once one brings these personal rights, more specifically freedom of religion, into the work force, they violate the separation of church and state. The separation of church and state is simply a law preventing government officials to serve with biased opinions based on personal beliefs. Although this dispute has gotten a bit messy, underneath the crossfire of conflicting opinions, there are the underlying truths of the story. Kim Davis is a citizen of the United States, and as a U.S. citizen, Davis s personal beliefs, and the freedom to express them, are protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances (US Const. amend. I). Proponents of Davis argue that not only does she have the freedom to believe what she wants, but she has the freedom to express her beliefs as well. The concept aims at attracting a niche target market of people living in the city, whose age ranges between 35 and 60 years. Due to the exclusivity and exquisiteness of the concept, a high income, white collar market would be favorable. Marketing would be sought through word of mouth, actually believed to be the swiftest and most effective. Guests would be given the chance to engage in activities like fishing, farming, gardening, reading, swimming, etc. Note that these will not be imposed, nor will they be used in a promotional tour package, but they will be made available to those willing to experience the richness of the earth and the mystery of its waters, in an effort to release stress and bring back inner peace that is believed to have been long lost with modern times. The location of the resort would be ideally located in the dense forests of Costa Rica on an exclusive location targeting a mainly North American market. • 14. Commodification Of Halloween With the increase in reinterpretations of death and Halloween symbols, two fundamental things occurred, the mass commodification of Halloween and a decontextualization of the symbols of death. In 1978 the premiere of Halloween, directed by John Carpenter, directly placed the holiday itself in relation to horror and gruesome death, more so than the introduction of gothic horror ever did (Rogers 110; Khapaeva 58). The introduction of explicit horror, according to Rogers, created. a coded language that enables authors and invites their audiences to explore their fears, hidden desires, and anxieties (110). This established a creative space in which fantasy and dissociation could be merged creating a popularization of death without actually dealing with the reality of death itself. It created a space where the narrative of horror and death could be controlled and regulated, through established archetypes. This directly contrasted the collective psyche of the 1970s and 80s in the United States, which was dealing with the ramifications of the AIDS epidemic (the worst epidemic since Polio), and an increase in social, religious, and political conservatism (Khapaeva 78). Through horror movies and Halloween, social anxieties could be dealt with in an a political and creative way, while still maintaining the sanitized separation of hospital and culture. In the contemporary period, Halloween s popularity has increased. Personal expenditures on Halloween have drastically increased since the 2000s, to create a multi billion dollar industry, which has expanded the cultural awareness and practice of Halloween (Khapaeva 57). However, this expansion has led to the commodification of Halloween, by equating it with consumer culture. This has significant implications for the cultural conception of death as it equate previously potent symbols with cheap goods. But this might have been by design, as Grider argues that the mass commercialization of Halloween is another way in which collectively western culture can control the potentially dangerous incursion of the supernatural world in our everyday lives (10). Through the ownership of material goods associated with Halloween, the narrative and context of the concepts are further ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Inconstancy in Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing Inconstancy in Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) explains inconstancy as the recurrent and generally unexpected or impulsive change from one condition to another. It is the state or quality of being inconstant and unfaithful by virtue of being undependable or deceitful. Set in Messina, Sicily, Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing is a very popular play generally viewed as one of his happiest comedies and is often performed in theatres. However, the playfulness and cheerfulness of the play is haunted by a cloud of melancholy which tells readers of the potential dangers and pain that can result from miscommunication, deceit and treachery. Some critics have argued that in the end, Benedict and Beatrice are not significantly different from Claudio and Hero (Bevington 218). The play reveals a fundamental inadequacy of the human nature in dealing with the social world which has two mutually mistrusting genders. Humans are likely to harbour outrageous tendencies, even when they think they are being very sensible and their inadequacies are what cause so much ado about nothing . The important question is whether a person can survive all that meaningless ado (Auden 115). Leonato stays in Messina with Hero, his daughter, Beatrice, a humorous and clever niece and, Antonio, his elderly brother and Beatrice s father. Leonato welcomes some friends, soldiers from war: Claudio, Benedict, Don Pedro and Don John. Claudio immediately falls in love with Hero and decides to marry her while Beatrice and Benedict start their war of humorous insults but eventually fall in love. Don John plans to disrupt everyone s happiness by staging a scene where Claudio and Don Pedro see a woman they believe to be Hero making love to another man. VAK learning styles are designed to describe how an individual processes information. VAK stands for Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic. The VAK learning style uses these three senses in order to determine a person s dominate learning style. In theory, an individual usually prefers to learn through one of these senses more than another. Everybody, including your family members, friends and strangers may have the same or a different learning style. Some individuals have a mixture of these three learning styles, which is not uncommon. It all depends on how one perceives and retains information. As individuals we all learn differently. Although people have a dominate style of learning; most learners tend to use all three senses to understand information given to them. These three styles include: Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic. For example, one might prefer a type of learning over another in order to complete a task rather than their own dominate learning style. By understanding the three learning styles, it can help out a student to better able to focus on his or her studying on specific techniques to increase their level of knowledge and perhaps help them through a difficult class. Changing Perspective Toward Health And Illness Essay Over past 150 years, the world has witnessed changes in environment, society and people s lifestyle that alter human disease patterns and distribution. Leading causes of death shift from infectious to chronic diseases (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). To effectively tackle new health issues, changing perspective toward health and illness is required (Engel, 1977). In this assignment, transition from biomedical model to the social models in response to changes in health trend will first be discussed and followed by the application of social models to explain the high rates of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in New Zealand (NZ). Urbanisation and industrialisation in 1990s led to overcrowding and poor sanitation resulting in the spread of cholera, TB, typhoid, influenza, and malaria. These infectious diseases were the main cause of mortality rate during that time (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). After WWII, there was a rapid fall in global mortality rates due to improved public health standard that curtailed, if not eradicated various infectious diseases (Browne, 2005). The improved longevity was very obvious especially in developed countries, for example, U.S. population life span was 47 years in 1900s but had reached 77 years by the end of the 20th century (Stien, 2008). The glycemic index or glycaemic index (GI) is a number associated with a particular type ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The glycemic load (GL) of food is a number that estimates how much the food will raise a person s blood glucose level after eating it. One unit of glycemic load approximates the effect of consuming one gram of glucose. Glycemic load accounts for how much carbohydrate is in the food and how much each gram of carbohydrate in the food raises blood glucose levels. Glycemic load is based on the glycemic index (GI), and is calculated by multiplying the grams of available carbohydrate in the food times the food s GI and then dividing by 100. Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person s thoughts, behavior, feelings and sense of well being. People with depressed mood can feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable, ashamed or restless. They may lose interest in activities that were once pleasurable, experience loss of appetite or overeating, have problems concentrating, remembering details or making decisions, and may contemplate, attempt or commit suicide. Insomnia, excessive sleeping, fatigue, aches, pains, digestive problems or reduced energy may also be present. Depressed mood is a feature of some psychiatric syndromes such as major depressive disorder, but it may also be a normal reaction to life events such as grief, a symptom of some bodily ailments or a side effect of some drugs and medical treatments. • 38. The Anzio Breakout Essay January 22, 1944 the sun is shining, and there is quite wind blowing across the beach of Anzio. In the next two days this beach will be covered in upwards of 30,000 allied troops and will see some of the bloodiest fighting of the war in the next four months. Anzio was originally supposed to be a distraction that Sir Alexander could use to breach the Gustav line. However, after a failure to immediately push towards Rome the allies would be trapped in trench warfare and would be forced to breakout of Anzio. This was, simply enough, called the Anzio Breakout. The escape from Anzio was comprised of the plan and its flaw, the invasion, and the Breakout. The allied commander Sir Alexander felt that he would be unable to take Rome unless a ... As the moved along the Anzio Albano Road toward Campoleone, they captured the town of Aprilia, which created a massive dent in enemy lines, but were unbale to breakout of the beachhead. Although they met some heavy resistance on the way to Cisterna and Littoria, that eventually halted their advance, they managed to increase their numbers, and built anti air guns impairing the German Luftwaffe. Despite their progress because they did not immediately drive towards Rome the Germans were able to recover and retaliate. Most of the German counterstrikes were random air raids on the snarl of trenches the allies had dug. The allies broken and weary from the random barrage of artillery were more then ready to escape the trenches of Anzio and head towards the capital Rome. They got their chance on May 12, 1944. On this date the Fifth and Eighth corps retaliated with their long anticipated offensive against the Gustav Line, finally allowing them to capture Cassino successively breaking the Gustav Line. Playing to the advantage of the turbulent status in the central mountains, and using an Allied artillery barrage, along with armor and infantry assaults along the Anzio, the Cisterna front was opened. • 39. Persuasive Essay On Pet Animals I have had pets, specially cats, since the day I was born. Some of these cats my family bought from a family with a litter of kittens they needed to get rid of. Others we got from humane societies. Over the years, I have had 6 different pet cats, not all at once of course. The most memorable were the ones that were rescued from a shelter because we saved them from the lonely, tiny cages that they were forced to live in day in and day out. As we were looking for the most recent additions, I grew tired of looking in shelters, not because it was time consuming finding the right one, but because of all the sad faces that stared back at me from the cages. Adopting and rescuing is the better option when it comes to adding a pet to the family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people may think that only sick animals are in shelters or that shelter animals aren t healthy enough to adopt, but that s not true. There are sick animals, but they are treated for their illnesses by veterinarians and watched carefully by volunteers and staff. They are not eligible for adoption until they pass their vet exam. No matter where you get your pet from, whether it be breeder or shelter, there is a chance they could get sick at some point in their life. The adopter will benefit by seeing their new family member thrive and watching their personality emerge. They will also feel the sense of having saved a life because in a way they did. Older animals spend approximately 4 times more time in shelters than younger ones, which may make adopting an older animal seem pointless because you may only get to have them for a few years, but if you do it, you are giving an animal the most amazing end to their lives and a good home to live out their golden years in (Madrone). They may even surprise you by living longer than they are expected to. Adopting an animal from a shelter is also cheaper in the long run. Animals from shelters are spayed or neutered before they can be adopted. They have also likely visited the vet to get shots and make sure they are generally in good health. They are usually microchipped. If you were to buy an animal elsewhere, you would have to pay for all those things yourself, on top of the price ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. What Is The Theme Of Summer Love In Birnam Woods The short story, Birnam Woods, by T.C. Boyle, revolves around a dysfunctional couple s journey to survive in a harsh winter. As Steve approaches Nora with a poem and Tequila, Nora doesn t resist his charm. Dejected, Keith then leaves the house and finds a couple in their bedroom, passionless like the winter. The scene makes Keith realize that when passion dies, so does the relationship. In the end, Keith discovers that he and Nora have been living the winter life, and Nora has moved on in search of another summer life. The Marika Alderton House sits in North Australia in Yirrkala, an indigenous community in Arnhem Land on a landscape facing a beach on the gulf of Carpentaria. Occupying one of these buildings is like sailing a yacht; you modify and manipulate its form and skin according to seasonal conditions and natural elements, and work with these to maximize the performance of the building. Murcutt s challenge for the Marika Alderton house was to create a home that could withstand the wet and dry seasons of the Yirrkala area. The house is divided allowing for use throughout the whole year. The main living area is located on the east side of the house to allow for ventilation during the day, while the bedrooms are too the west which are coolest at night. The building was designed to use affordable and local materials; hence the structure is skeleton like made with solid steel to survive the extreme weather. The stability is achieved through the length of the house. The eaves overhang to prevent direct sunlight from entering the house. Murcutt calculated the angle of the sun and designed the eaves to drop far enough to provide shade all year, as there is no cold climate. The house opens out on every side to provide ventilation throughout, together with the shutters allows air to be channeled through the house. The low pressure of the hot air causes it to rise, pulling the cool air in. The house was designed to sit on stilts. This is to keep various species of reptiles and spiders from entering the house, protects it from flooding and again for cooling purposes. The stilts allow for the house to have little impact on the surrounding native ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
