Mr. Stevens Failure
Humanity progresses through trial and error. Whenever an idea is conceived, we look back on either
our life or those who are thought to have a similar experience in order to make a final judgement on
which action to take. This is how the process has gone for thousands of years; but in the end we all
endure some kind of failure. We often look back and realize how obvious of a bad choice it was, and
in the end we chalk it up to another lesson learned. However, there are some of us who think a bit
more before we speak in order to avoid failure and disappointment, but how far will that tactic take
us? In Kazuo Ishiguro s, The Remains of the Day, protagonist Mr. Stevens constantly goes out of his
way to avoid failure. In his eyes, the house is relative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What makes his father a great butler is the loyalty between the butler and the employer, which Stevens
defines as dignity. The night his father passes is a great example of how he upholds dignity. Stevens
concludes that if he were to mourn his father s death instead of tending to Lord Darlington s meeting,
the night would have been wasted. ...I go so far to suggest that I did perhaps display, in the face of
everything, at least in some modest degree a dignity worthy of someone live Mr. Marshall or come to
that my father (110). Stevens also foreshadows his realization of failure through his father. In the
memory of his father passing away, one of the last phrases he hears from him is, I haven t been a good
father, haven t I? Stevens father has looked back on his his life and wondered if the dignity of being a
butler was worth his life. By focusing solely on his career, he didn t have time to bond with the love
ones the way he wanted to. Stevens eventually realizes this at the end of the novel, wondering if all the
time he spent serving Lord Darlington and not taking interest in Miss Keaton was

Winter Lawn Care Research Paper
Many people only think about their lawn during the spring and summer months. However, if you want
your yard to look good and remain healthy year round, you will need to establish a winter lawn care
regimen. That means knowing what you need to do for your lawn and when you need to implement
your winter lawn care strategy to achieve a pristine landscape. And the first step begins with learning
exactly what it is you need to do to succeed. When Should I Begin My Winter Lawn Care Regimen?
Even though you are implementing a winter lawn care regimen, the work you need to do will actually
need to be performed in the fall. There are several things you will need to do before the winter season
arrives. Aeration. You can add aeration to your lawn using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, with that being said, your lawn will need to be watered even during the winter. A lawn
needs at least one to two inches of water per week and depending on how much rain you ve had, you
might need to water it once and sometimes twice a week. You will be able to tell if your lawn is
getting enough water by inserting a six inch screwdriver into the ground, and if the screwdriver can t
be easily pressed into the ground, then your lawn isn t getting enough water. How Do I Winterize My
Lawn Mower? If you want to keep your lawn mower in good shape, you will need to winterize it prior
to storing it for the winter. There are several steps you will need to take, if you don t want to be left
with some repairs in the spring. Stabilize the Fuel. If you store your lawn mower in the basement, you
should run the engine until the gas runs out; otherwise, it could clog the carburetor. If you store your
lawn mower in the garage, you should fill up the tank to help prevent condensation and add some fuel
stabilizer to it, which can be purchased at your local home improvement store. Then you will need to
operate your mower for approximately five minutes to ensure the stabilizer reaches the

Newell Corporation
Introduction In 1998, Newell Company set out to expand its revenue base through strategic acquisition
of two major companies. Newell s CEO at that time was John McDonough, who was in charge of
positioning the publicly traded company to an improved revenue base through differential product
mix. The idea to broaden Newell Company through acquisition was an energetic and very optimistic
strategic initiative to increase shareholder value in a shortened period of time. Unfortunately, the
company compromised its fundamental requirement for product quality while removing a once strong
presence of an intangible human resource pool. Newell Company chose to diversify their product line
for the simple reason to improve shareholder value. This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This centralization encourages a standard reaction for changing customer requirements that result in
strategic business continuity for product quality, price stability (margins), supply and logistics, and PR
through marketing. See figure 3 Figure 3 Background Newell Company switched corporate focus
from a manufacturer of low technology domestic products to becoming a volume merchandiser. The
basic concept was focusing on the talent of volume merchandising. Decades of supplying large
retailers such as Woolworth, Kmart, Wal Mart, Staples, Home Depot, and others, gave Newell the
necessary skill to provide excellent service. Newell began a strategy of acquiring faltering companies
instituting proven Newell corporate management strategies. Acquisitions fail more often than not.
Newell takes a risk every time it acquires a new company. Conflicts often arise when two corporate
cultures meld. Acquiring diverse companies does not allow Newell to master the manufacturing
processes of each product. Newell focuses primarily on consolidating financial systems, sales and
order processing systems, and flexible manufacturing systems. Acquiring such diverse businesses,
which are already faltering, is a very risky corporate strategy. A key part of Newellization is creating
efficiencies through plant closures and labor reductions. Employee loss results in a decrease of
intangible resources, which are difficult to quantify. Workers skills,

Ramsi Case Report
Introduction
RAMSI is a regional assistance mission co ordinated by Australia and supported by 15 other nations in
the Pacific Islands that has had positive effects on safety in the Solomon Islands, specifically Honiara.
As well as having positive effects on safety, RAMSI also assisted in saving the Solomon Islands from
economic collapse. This mission has had effects on both young people from the Solomon Islands and
from the nations supporting the Solomon Islands, specifically Australians. This report will go on to
identify these effects on young people and services that support them. It will then recognize how any
negative effects are being combated by the youth work agencies in Honiara. Once this report has

RAMSI has not only effected government agencies and politicians it has also affected young
Australians who are coming over with their parents and young Solomon Islanders who are seeing a
foreign culture in their country.
Effects of RAMSI on young people in Honiara
Many young people from Australia who have moved to Honiara because of RAMSI end up going to
Woodford international school. For many Solomon Islanders Woodford is unaffordable however it is
cheaper for Solomon Island citizens at $50,700.00 compared to $68,440.00 per year. This does not
deter international students from going to Woodford as the principle Anthony Baron, stated that they
had close to 50% Solomon Island students and 50% of the students from other parts of the world. This
creates a multicultural environment for all young people at the school and improves cultural
awareness in the region. Tomalin and Stempleski (2013) agree with this and suggest that this is
important because it helps students understand everyone has different cultural behaviours, words may
have different connotations to someone from another culture and creates curiosity about other cultures
as well as encouraging empathy. By learning at an overseas international school and coming back to
Australia young people develop broad cultural awareness which they can teach their peers. This
learning happens in social situations through the passing on of knowledge (Volet Ang 2012). The

The True Essence Of Being Great Essay
ohermosa2493@gmail.com
I. INTRODUCTION
The true essence of being great is to be the servant of all, as what Jesus shared with his disciples in the
story of the parable of the labourers in the vineyard and I quote:
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and give
His life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28).
I am blessed to have been a part of the Superintendent s Leadership Program (SLP) Batch 2 of the
Department of Education in partnership with De La Salle University, the Philippines Australia Human
Resource and Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF), Eugenio Lopez Center (ELC) and
Knowledge Channel.
According to Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro, FSC, SLP is a journey with the generals expected to be
the frontliners of the entire transformation initiative of the department. Eugenio Lopez Center is the
place for that dream to transform the kind of education we have in the Philippines. I could vividly
remember that statement and it has moved me to give my best as a Schools Division Superintendent of
the Schools Division of Bayawan City. No matter how small that city division maybe, but if it will
have the great leadership, it will make the difference. According to Maxwell, everything falls and rises
in leadership ( Maxwell,2007).
Perhaps our greatest power in life is the power to choose. Without question, choices are the most
determining factor in how our lives turn out. ( Maxwell,2007).

An Open Letter For Friends And Family
An open letter to friends and family:
A Brief Intro/Background
This letter will no doubt be hard for many of you to read, I empathize as it was also hard to write. I
beg your patience and hope you read through to the end. What I would like to convey to you is my
recent shift in world view. That is to say that I recently came to realize that I am an atheist.
This is likely shocking to most of you. Let me be clear by what I intend to convey by identifying as
such. I do not mean to say I am opposed to religion, or claim there is no God. I still identify very much
with LDS culture and attend church regularly. Rather, I identify as an atheist as a way to convey that I
seem to have lost Faith that there is a God. Over the last year I have studied and ponder in depth to
discover as best I could truth. Before I get there I want to be clear as to the perspective in which I am
coming from.
I was raised in a very active and loving family of the LDS Church. My family is still very active, my
father and my mother have served in leadership roles. They are both full of faith and charity and am
grateful for their love and support throughout my life. I, myself have served in leadership roles in the
church both as a young man and as a missionary for the church. I served a 2 year mission in west
Texas spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ as I understood it. I was married in an LDS temple to my
wonderful wife. My in laws are also very devout members of the LDS church.

Critique Nursing
Essay preview The purpose of this assignment is to critique and evaluate the chosen article in terms of
strengths and weaknesses, to demonstrate an understanding of the research process. According to Polit
and Beck (2004) the aim of critically appraising an article is an attempt to determine its strengths and
limitations. Therefore, the research critique should reflect an objective and balanced consideration of
the study s validity and significance (Polit and Hungler 1999). The task of critiquing is, according to
Lo Biondo Wood and Harber (2006) a challenging one and can only be effectively achieved through
much practice and skill. For the purpose of this critique, the frameworks of Parahoo (1997) and Polit

Cormack (2000) states that the literature review is a critical review of previous literature relating to
the research topic. Therefore this section aims to provide the reader with an understanding of what the
current state of evidence is in the selected area of study. This review is organised by heading that
correspond to the key study concepts, which makes the review easy to follow. The researchers attempt
to review previous studies relating to the topic, thus preparing the ground for new research. The
studies presented highlight the significance of the problem under investigation. It was difficult to
identify the exact research question, as there was no definite question asked. Although Valente (2003)
states that sometimes researchers may hide the research question within the purpose of the study. The
final statement of the literature review is therefore the purpose of this study it is timely that perceived

From reading the reference list, it can be seen that this is the case and only three references before

Traditional Spanish cuisine is known just by this drink. Also recommended to us except sangria and

Analysis Of Human Action And Interaction In The Knife Thrower
Human action and reaction are heavily based on what we experience and how we interoperate those
experiences. The Knife Thrower is a short story written by Steven Millhauser that focuses on three
major concepts of human action and reaction. The story follows an audience of people as they watch
an anticipating show of a knife thrower and his dangerous tricks. In the story, The Knife Thrower,
Millhauser focuses on three major concepts of human action; how humans act amongst a group of
people, how humans act when trust is built between two individuals, and how humans act when they
witness pain and death in regards to the human body. The first concept that is focused on within this
short story is the way humans act when they are amongst a group of people. When amongst a group of
people, Millhauser s work shows that humans are quick to follow each other and they create a herd
mentality. An important literary concept Millhauser uses to his advantage to express this is the use of
first person narration. Millhauser uses words such as we and us to group together not only the
audience s feelings and thoughts but also the readers. This is done so strategically to present this first
concept of how people herd together in groups during times of hesitation. The first way this is shown
is when the audience has the opportunity to volunteer to receive the mark from the master (6).
Everyone is extremely hesitant and looking at each other for some sort of direction on how to react. A

Equality In Early Generations In The United States
Earlier generations who migrated from other countries that came to start a new life had many things to
accomplish. At the start of the migration, people and settlers came for a new beginning and also a
fresh start at life itself. With that tough task at hand, it also came with a price, such as equality,
fighting for rights, the constant need for change and following a movement. During this essay I will be
able to shed some light and point of views on equality on generations, political pressure, engaging in
strikes and the division in social classes. In earlier generations, equality was not a topic that was very
popular. If you were born into a poor family, chances are that you yourself were going to fall into that
blood life for decades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the bosses are corrupt and control the majority of how things operate, then there is no voice among
the poor and middle class people. If they are employing me 80 90 percent of my day and not letting
me or my people utilize the public subways or common things that everyone else is, they are
essentially trying to contain us, so that we are so unprivileged and exhausted we wouldn t put up a
fight. They are also limiting us in giving us access to what was once considered public . The social
classes are divided in this perspective, if you knew or know someone of power them you belonged and
if you didn t, then in turn you were looked down upon as someone with no rights. In conclusion the
equality of earlier generations was really never established until people began to rebel and make it
noticeable. A strike would only be necessary if the bosses where not corrupt and not control the public
uses of everything that was once common. Finally, with the division of social classes would have
change if at the beginning of time there wasn t any one person in control and corrupt, using their

Diverse Child Rearing Practices
There is an issue within this scenario that involves respecting diverse child rearing practices. Student
teacher Maryam politely asks Hugh and Ahmed to pack up, but Di pulls her aside and lets her know
that Ahmed s cultural practices does not expect him to do so. This becomes an ethical dilemma
because Di has implanted a policy that benefits the cultural practices of a single client, while another
client s child suffers from unfair treatment. In the perspective of Di, she focuses more on her teaching
profession and integrating the core values of a teacher into her policy (Newman Pollnitz, 2005).
However, In Maryam s perspective, her personal and professional values come in conflict along with
the code of conduct that is put in place by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Di may need to reconsider the implementation of her policy because it currently results in inequality.
Educators are to comply with the codes of conduct that are implemented for the expected behaviour of
Education staff (Code of Conduct Policy, 2017). The guidelines of the codes of ethics also provide
information with the ethical responsibilities associated with teaching (Code of Ethics, 2017). Di and
Maryam may have to reflect on their ethical education together, so that they are able to resolve
complex ethical dilemmas (Boon, 2011). For example, the codes of conduct and the codes of ethics
encourage educators to respond positively to cultural diversity, but they may need to ignore these
codes and make a decision based on their professional and moral values. This can be done by
discussing with Ahmed s parents that his cultural practice in the centre can be a minor issue with
others. This is because this practice can affect the interests of others, such as Hugh who deals with

Beaten by a Hair
Introduction
The case I chose to write on is based on a DVD that we watched in class called Beaten by a hair . In
this case, a woman was reported missing after she went to work and never returned home. After the
police discovered a bloody pillow case in the woods, near her house, they linked it to the missing
pillow case in the woman s room, and then realized that they had a murder case on their hands. A
mystery in the case was that one of the local neighbors had mentioned seeing the woman leave
through the front door of her house but the evidence says different, so investigators had to find out
who left the house that morning. I am interested in this case because it was very intriguing how the

294). This means even after a week the blood has been cleaned up, luminol can still detect it. Also
after applying luminol, the area needs to be darkened so that blue glow can be emitted. The iron from
the hemoglobin in the blood causes luminol to glow, so a blue glow is produced when the solution is
sprayed where there is blood. Only a tiny amount of iron is required to catalyze the reaction
(Helmenstine, 2012). The use of luminol revealed that there were blood stains on the bed sheets and
suspected that the woman was killed in her bedroom and that she did not go to work that day or leave
the house.
Upon further analysis of the woman s bedroom, the forensic officers used a chemical called amido
black. Amido black is a protein dye that is sensitive to the protein in blood and when it makes contact
stains a latent blue black colour. It is used for revealing fingerprints, trace evidence, and fibers that
may be in the crime scene. This technique was not useful for the officers because they could not find
any prints or evidence. The forensic officers also performed an ultraviolet light test which was used to
reveal trace evidence such as vaginal fluid, urine, semen, or saliva. The ultraviolet test is usually done
before using chemicals such as luminol to see if there are any fibers to be found and used first.
However the officers were not able to find anything, but this method was useful to them because they
could not find any evidence to prove that

The Theory And Major Components Of Gas Chromatography
A gas chromatograph (GC) is an analytical instrument in which measures the content of a variety of
constituents within a sample. The analysis in which a gas chromatograph is operated is called gas
chromatography. Figure 1 below is a basic representation of the instrument and the following
statement is a simple representation of the overall process of a GC: It is a technique in which a sample
solution is injected into the instrument through a septum, where it introduced into a gas stream that
transports the sample into a separation tube known as a column. The assorted components of the
sample are separated within the column. After the separation has been completed within the column a
detector will quantitatively measure each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The selection of the gas is important, as each performs differently with the type of detector that is
being operated. The three most commonly selected gases for an experiment involving a gas
chromatograph are hydrogen, helium, and nitrogen. Diffusivity and viscosity are two characteristics
that will influence the performance of these gases.
The diffusion coefficient, also called diffusivity is a parameter that is indicative of the diffusion
mobility that is, it presents a mechanism for measurement for the diffusion speed of a solute s vapor in
a gas. The speed of chromatography is determined by the diffusion speed of the solute in the carrier
gas. A molecule evaporating from the stationary phase and proceeding into the stream of gas should be
capable of diffusing back into the stationary phase before having to undergo the partitioning process
again. It is this diffusion of molecules that set apart the gases. In order to obtain a good separation, the
most desired carrier gases are those that come in contact with the column a significant number of
times. There is a limit to this however, the more time that the gas is given for radial diffusion
(diffusion in the direction of the stationary phase), the more time there is for band broadening
(longitudinal diffusion). For this reason there is an optimal gas velocity, where it supplies maximum
contact with the stationary phase and minimum band broadening in the gas phase.

Persuasive Essay Comparing Two Planets
In 1905 Pervical Lowell was the fist person to notice Pluto and he started observing Neptune and
Uranus and he observed a similarity from this two planets and Pluto. After almost 25 years Pluto then

The conventional cast in suit concrete is done usually repair and strengthing works in the cases where
due to the change in volume or shrinkage of the convection cement based concrete, causing

This method can be applied vertically, inclined, and over head surfaces with minimum or without
formwork. Generally the materials used in this method are same as conventional mortar, and
reinforcement are welded fabric and deformed bars tacked onto surface.
Shotcrete process is carried out either by these two processes: a) Wet process b) Dry process
a) Wet process: In the wet process mixture of cement and aggregate premixed with water and the
pump pushes the mixture through the hose and nozzle. Compressed air is introduced at nozzle to
increase the velocity of application.
b) Dry process: In dry mix process, compressed air propels premixed mortar and damp aggregate and
at the nozzle end water is added through a separate hose. The dry mix and water through the second
hose are projected on to a prepared surface.
Surface preparation before shotcreting involves a thorough cleaning and removing all loose aggregate
and roughening the existing concreting surface for improved bond. Shotcrete frequently has high
shrinkage characteristics and measures to prevent cracks using adequate reinforcement and proper
curing is always necessary. The shotcrete surface can be lift as sprayed which is somewhat rough. If a
smoother surface is required, a thin layer can be sprayed on the hardened shotcrete and then reworked
and finished to the required texture or plaster can be applied.

Summary Of The Art Of Living Consciously By Nathaniel Branden
In 1999, Nathaniel Branden published a very influential book called The Art of Living Consciously.
This book discussed various ways one can build their self esteem. This is one of many of Branden s
books on self esteem but this one is focusing on the aspect of living consciously. He promotes this as
the idea of living consciously as a healthy aspect of self esteem in a person s mental abilities and
respect for reality. He applies his theory of living consciously to specific aspects of life such as
relationships, parenting, and in the workplace. Branden portrays his ideas in a very approachable way,
many of his sentences seem somewhat open ended so you can you relate it your everyday life. For
example, he states What determines the level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains to use how we may be able to live consciously and how we can shift our focus from
consciously living; the flipping the switch as mentioned earlier. He explains that what can help us all
live this way is by knowing what we are doing while we are doing it. Though this may seem like a
very simple task but one that would require some discipline. One of the interesting aspects of Branden
s work is that he walks us through situations we would encounter in our everyday lives and then has
the reader ask themselves questions like How can we be more conscious in this area? and How can we
tell we are doing right? This helps the reader feel more connected with his writing. They may be able
to envision how they can live more conscious and their life and become more aware of how to living
this way. Some of the topics Branden really highlighted throughout his book was the importance of
reason and the commitment of awareness. But he s does this in such a desirable approach, he does not
try to validate his points instead he examines life starting from child and shows how things in life
could have affected your way to practice the principles to live in this state. He writes about the lives of
himself and other involved in his life and puts us in situations showing that to be more aware of the
reality around you can make yourself stand out to others who bury themselves in unconsciousness. Yet
his way of displaying this message is so approachable because he discourages the common idea that
reason rather than experience is the key to knowledge and he also speaks to you through your
experiences that really make you think. This really helps bring the reader closer to the experience
Branden is try to put forth and the stories, exercises and discussions really help portray that message.
Instead of describing the good life, he invites us into discover this life for ourselves which

A Report On Korean Industrial Production
Introduction
VoC approach does not provide sufficient prototypes.
South Korea is SME
Turkey is also SME because it has similar characteristics. State policies are similar.
However, outcomes of these state policies are quite different (give figures) In the mid 1950 s, Turkey
was a much richer country than Korea. With about the same population, Turkish GNP was about three
times that of Korea, Turkish exports were fifteen times those of Korea, and the Turkish savings rate
was much higher than Korean. By 1980, the situation was dramatically reversed, as Turkish income
was 40 percent below Korea s, Turkish exports were less than one fourth those of Korea and the
Turkish savings rate was about two thirds of Korea s. (Krueger)
There are either economic advantages or economic disadvantages to a military alliance with the
United States, both countries had them. And, insofar as proximity to a rapidly growing region of the
world affects growth, Turkey and Korea had Europe and Japan, respectively (Krueger).
Korean industrial production rose forty five fold between 1960 and 1984, whereas Turkish industrial
production was 6.6 times higher in the same period. (Yilmaz)
During the period 1963 1990, total factor productivity (TFP) increased at an average rate of 2.4
percent in Korea. In this period, TFP in Turkey increased at an average rate of almost 0.9 percent.

Monotheistic Religion And Zoroastrianism
Zoroastrianism on the other hand is a monotheistic religion, originating in Iran, and has evolved
throughout the ages. With approximately 130,000 remaining followers. Zoroastrianism s early stage, is
presumed to have influenced Buddhism, and introduces beliefs of Gods and Devils that have been
adopted by other religions such as Christianity, and Islam. The Zoroastrian gods represented elements,
aspects of nature, and principles such as justice and obedience. These gods were called daevas
meaning ( shining ones ), with higher ranking gods called Ahuras or ( Lords ) with the supreme god
Ahura Mazda, being worshipped above all the other gods as the divine creator; through good thoughts,
words, and deeds, like the Jainism ahimsa. Zoroastrians believed there was a cosmic battle between
good and evil and to support good one must dedicate themselves as spiritual warriors for good.
Zoroastrianism evolved from believing in supernatural gods and devils to believing that the battle
between good and evil lies within our minds. Zoroastrians believe that we combat evil by performing
good deeds and having good thoughts and actions. The Avesta, is the Zoroastrian holy text assembled
by the Parthians using the surviving remains of the early Zoroastrian teachings two centuries after
their traditions were destroyed by Alexander, known in the West as The Great , and in Iran The

The Book of Acts
Brief Overview of The Book of Acts
Luke wrote the Acts of the Apostles as a follow up to his Gospel account of the life of Christ. The Acts
should be seen as a description of the ongoing work of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit
through His apostles and followers. Luke s aim is to give an historical record of the early church from
its birth in Jerusalem to how it reached around the world with the Gospel. Through this work Luke
reveals that everything that was said previously about Jesus Christ was absolute truth. The book of
Acts can be split into two main parts: 1. The birth of the Church 2. The missionary journeys of the
apostles The book begins with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the waiting disciple (120) in the

When they prayed God moved in a mighty way; saving the lost, healing the sick, raising the dead,
anointing with the Spirit, and even in an earthquake. God granted their requests not because of their
words but because they prayed from the heart. They believed that their God was able. The key verse
on prayer is They continued steadfast ... in prayers (Acts 2:42).
2) Courage
Boldness or courage does not come as a matter of course but come as we rely upon the Lord who
strengthens us to stand firm And now, Lord, behold their threatening: and grant unto thy servants, that
with all boldness they may speak Thy word (4:29). God will give us the power to say exactly the right
thing in threatening situations We ought to obey God rather than men (5:29), and then to go on doing
what He has called us to (5:40 42). Stephen is the prominent example in Acts of courage in the face of
adversity (6:127:60). Through his witness we understand that God can put a holy boldness in our lives
regardless of personal weakness or timidity. God is able to make us bold regardless of what may come
against us. In the book of Acts we see several occasions when believers had courage from the Lord in
difficult circumstances; (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) Peter before the Jewish Council (4:5, 5:29) Stephen
before the Jewish Council (6:12 7:60), Paul before Felix, Festus, Agrippa, and the Jews Paul and

Even though nowadays religion is becoming more private, it has had such a fundamental role in our

Dichotomy
Investigation:
The Dichotomy or also Achilles and Tortoise Paradox: Introducing the first paradox Achilles and the
Tortoise . This paradox is very similar to the idea of the Dichotomy so by explaining the example of
Achilles and the Tortoise both will be covered. Zeno came up with the idea of the Dichotomy, which
means dividing by two. As an example for this he came up with the example of a character called
Achilles. One day Achilles and a tortoise had a speed race against each other. Obviously the tortoise is
much slower to Achilles was so modest to allow him to have a head start of 100 meters. As Zeno and
Aristoteles says, when the race starts Achilles has to catch up with the tortoise so he sprints. While this
is happening he is halving the distance towards the tortoise. There is no problem here because
assuming no acceleration or deceleration, he is always going to half the distance as shown on this
picture:
Assuming that Achilles is running at 10meters per second (m/s) one can logically say that ... Show

As with Achilles and a tortoise this one even further stresses the idea that motion is just an illusion. In
this example Zeno assumes that time, in his definition, is only made up of a series of moments . In this
paradox one arrow, just a regular arrow, has been shot or is just simply in motion. Zeno himself states
that with his paradox, no motion is occurring while the arrow is in motion. This is because he assumes
that for each instance of time, which can be broken up into small intervals as defined earlier by him,
no movement occurs. Again explaining this more in detail, he is saying that because of all these
moments occurring and being able to divide these up into smaller intervals which then ultimately lead
to the point where the arrow is not moving at all because time has moments and no movement occurs
in that moment of time. This is why Zeno claims that the arrow is not moving at

South Carolina Nullification
9/25/12 Adv. U.S. History South Carolina Ordinance of Nullification, November 24, 1832 Throughout
the great American history, Americans have been through a colossal amount of conflicts, and wars.
However, they still figured out a way to compromise and accept each other s differences. As America
improves, they gradually lead to a making of a powerful and organized government. Yet in South

This lowered the tariff gradually over a decade and prevented any armed conflicts. (.loc.gov) This
shows the strength of the federal government over all the states. In conclusion, the Ordinance of
Nullification was a document with many personal opinions and conflicts. For example, the federal
government wasn t equal to the south, by letting north have the positive affect of the tariff of 1928 and
south have the negative affect. In result south tried to show that they have more power than the federal
government by nullifying the tariffs. However all of this ended with an agreement. Throughout most
of our history when a conflict derives a compromise is always made. After all, the conflict and work
the Americans went through in the past, made an abundant change for us in the future. Citations

International Organisations Encouraged International Peace...
After the First World War, there had been immense destruction and loss of lives. The world existed in
anarchy, a solution was needed to prevent another disastrous war and maintain peace in the future. The
solution was the League of Nations that would ensure that there would be no scope for bias and selfish
needs of states to expand territories. The creation of the Leagues of Nations was the first step towards
what was going to become an integral part of International Society International Organisations in the
form as we see them today. With the help of the theory of liberalism, the purpose of this paper is to
better understand how International Organisations encouraged international peace and amity. I aim to
explain how globalization has made the theory of realism almost redundant, how a liberal theoretical
approach is more significant and using this approach to understand why this view made and continues
to make International Organisations critical to peace and how they have helped in the past. The paper
will focus on the United Nations and Amnesty International as key organisations.
The definitions of keywords that will appear repeatedly in this paper and are critical for understanding
the central idea of the paper. Firstly, an International Organisation is a form of institution that refers to
a formal system of rules and objectives, a rationalized administrative instrument (Selznick 1957: 8)

The Science Of Shopping By Malcolm Gladwell

businesses were struggling in the late 1990 s, Malcolm discusses the issue in a public report to draw

Cost-effectiveness Analysis of a Rotavirus Immunization...
The Cost effectiveness Analysis of a Rotavirus Immunization Program for the United States was
designed to estimate the economic impact of a national rotavirus immunization program. The research
question and objective of the analysis was to determine if a rotavirus vaccine immunization program
would be beneficial and cost effective. The study is policy relevant because it will determine if a
rotavirus vaccine immunization program is effective enough for implementation and will assist in
setting priorities for policy makers. The conclusions of the analysis will affect healthcare providers,
doctors, hospitals, the vaccine users, and society as a whole.
To cultivate results that illustrate a need for a rotavirus immunization program, decision analysis is an
appropriate method because the decisions are objective rather than subjective, they are more focused
on operations instead of strategy, and they encompass repetition rather than infrequency. Decision
analysis looks to distinguish the most appropriate alternative outcomes and extracts data that identifies
elements of the program that reflect value or disvalue. Additionally, it takes the viewpoint of the
organization when decision making, opposed to an individual standpoint.
Date included in the study consisted of the number of physician and emergency room visits, incidence
rates, rotavirus infections, mortality estimates, hospitalizations, hospital discharge records, affected

Barack Obama Won The Presidential Election
On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama won the presidential election; Obama was sworn in as the 44th
president of the United States on January 20, 2009. Originally, Obama s health care plan did not
include a mandate and was criticized. In the Jan. 2008 presidential primary debate, his response to the
criticism was, A mandate means that in some fashion, everybody will be forced to buy health

even if you can t afford it, and you pay a penalty if you don t. (Cline). At the time of his election,
voters were under the impression that Obama was against the idea of an individual health insurance
mandate. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in February of 2008, speaking of his opponent at the
time, Hillary Clinton, Obama states: she mandates that everybody buy health care. She d have the
government force every individual to buy insurance and I don t have such a mandate because I don t
think the problem is that people don t want health insurance, it s that they can t afford it...I focus more
on lowering costs...I could mandate everybody to buy a house, and that would solve the problem of

Pros And Cons Of Biological Weapons
Bill gates has warned world leaders that Bioterrorism could kill more people than nuclear war, but do
we know what bioterrorism is? Bioterrorism also known as biological warfare is defined as use of
infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, germs, fungi or toxins against enemy s soldiers, civilians,
animals or crops as a weapon of war. Small pox viruses and bacterium like Yersinia pestis which
causes plague are examples of such biological agents. As with other forms of terrorism, its purposes
include the undermining of morale, creating chaos, or achieving political goals These weapons are
used for either killing or incapacitating people.. In the past, the weapons employed by nations were
more easily recognizable and defendable. For example, surveillance allows missile silos to be
detected, and counter strategies put in place to deal with the launch of the missiles. Microorganisms,

resources to invest in their own nuclear program. Nuclear weapons require expensive radioactive
materials, and both nuclear and chemical weapons require significant scientific infrastructure to

The American And Egyptian Cultures
I was born in America, but grew up with both the American and Egyptian cultures. This had a great
impact on my life. People ask me about my culture all the time and this has triggered my interest in
other cultures. It taught me to be tolerant and understanding toward other cultures and beliefs. This
has helped me on many occasions to work successfully with others as well as become empathetic.
Over the past couple of years I have traveled to Egypt and Sint Maarten. Traveling to different
countries helped expand my experiences and knowledge of the diverse ways people think and live
their lives. I have done volunteer work in many parts of the healthcare field. Every time I did any kind
of health related work I learned something new. The most meaningful

Kenneth Branagh s Depiction Of Act 1 Of Hamlet
The Effectiveness of Kenneth Branagh s Depiction of Act 1 of Hamlet To begin, many parts of
Kenneth Branagh s depiction of Hamlet are effective, as they use cinematic elements to illustrate the
depth of the play. First, Branagh s version uses music throughout the scenes to emphasize emotions
and conflict. During scene one, at the battlements of Elsinore Castle, the director incorporates
trumpets and bells to signify the royal aspect of the setting, but then transitions into softer, more
haunting music, creating an ominous atmosphere. Furthermore, the music is especially effective
during transitions between scenes. When Hamlet discovers Horatio and Marcellus have seen the ghost,
it produces suspense, as he predicts foul deeds will rise (1.2.256). This emphasizes the disorder caused
by King Hamlet s ghost roaming Elsinore, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of colour also helps highlight different emotions. After Marcellus, Barnardo, and Horatio
encounter the ghost in scene one, a colourful sunrise transitions into scene two. When Horatio reveals
the cock, that is the trumpet to the morn/ Doth with his lofty and shrill sounding throat/ Awake the god
of day (1.1.150), it is effective because it produces a hopeful atmosphere at the prospect of it being
light outside, rather than dark and ominous like before. Also, when everyone is gathered in the great
hall of Elsinore Castle, Hamlet still wears mourning clothes. When questioned about his sadness by
Claudius and Gertrude, he states I am too much i th sun , therefore the contrast in colour emphasizes
the inference one makes that the wedding is affecting Hamlet deeply (1.2.67). Branagh s depiction
allows one to visualize

Arguments Against Legalizing Prostitution
Prostitution is an age old profession, and has been referred to as the oldest profession known to man.
According to alternet.org, there was a time when prostitution was fine and legal. In fact, prostitutes
help settle early American settlements. Where ever you had men that were settling the West, you had
prostitutes. The practice had become so big in the United States that women would often migrate from
other countries to be a part of the profession (AlterNet). But now many people often look at
prostitution as a degrading practice for women. Most opinions formed about prostitution are due to
religious beliefs and personal opinions from incorrect information. Despite the act being illegal, it is
still practiced all over the United States, resulting in multiple issues, such as STDs, arrests, and
rape/sexual abuse. Due to the fact that prostitutes are faced to deal with the following issues: STDs,
arrest, and rape/sexual abuse, therefore, the government should study the prostitution laws practiced in
other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies show the issues that arise are STDs, police arrests, and prostitutes possibly becoming victims
of rape or sexual abuse. Prostitutes are often subject to the terms of the customer, because they need
the money. As a result, sex acts are often performed without condoms, often resulting in STDs. The
majority of prostitutes does not have reliable health care, and therefore, cannot afford weekly STD
check ups. They are forced to be treated at public clinics, which are not known for their level of
service. Also, STDs are one of the many reasons that some people oppose legalizing prostitution.
People think that prostitution is one of the major causes of STD spread. According, to the Prostitutes
Education Network, only 3 5% of STDs are prostitute related, compared to 30 35% which are teen
related. STDs are probably low in regard to prostitutes being educated on safe

The Problem Of Aggression And Violence
Aggression and violence are common in every day life, so common everyone is exposed to it. Krahe
defines aggression as behavior that has intention to inflict negative consequences on a target with an
expectancy the action will have a particular outcome (2001).There are an innumerable amount of
studies to explain why aggression and violence occur, which are ranged from social and biosocial
explanations as seen by the frustration and aggression theory (Dollard, 1939), the excitement transfer
theory (Zillman, 1979), and the social learning theory (Bandura, 1961). Also ranged from biological
theories, such as, psychodynamic (Freud, 1920), evolutionary (Buss, 1990), and ethological (Lorenz,
1966). Aggression has many forms, from social, verbal and physical aggression and other serious
kinds of violence (Karriker Jaffe, Foshee, Ennett, Suchindran, 2008). Based on theories and studies; I
will propose my FIVEstop approach, which are 5 solutions that may help reduce aggressive in society,
and why the solutions may work. First, I recommend starting with children and parents. Since children
are our future adults who will grow to learn different behaviors and actions, I believe it is crucial to
reduce aggression in children first starting from birth. Many studies have shown that spanking
children causes aggression. Maccoby (1992) found that children who have experienced physical
discipline from their parents are more aggressive than those who have not. However, to understand

Air Pollution And Its Effects On The World
ABSTRACT
Present day scenario of Delhi in terms of air pollution is undermining and is predicted to continue
growing on that front. The air quality, in fact, is the worst of all the major cities in the world. One of
the reasons for the suffering air quality is Vehicular Pollution which is mainly due to the fuels. This
paper mainly intensifies on the use of CNG instead of Petroleum based fuels like petrol and diesel. It
compares all of the above with respect to pollution control as well as the expenses associated with
their use to suit the general public. This paper provides the current status of the use of these fuels and
their preferences.
INTRODUCTION
Normal human activity is more harmful for nature than the greatest wars or nuclear explosions in
history. For the last decade, pollution has been on a steep rise all across the world with air pollution
taking a lead. In India, particularly in Delhi, the level of pollution is scarily high making it the
eleventh most polluted metropolis in the world[1]. A considerable role in pollution is played by Air
pollution. Air pollution is caused by road dust, industrial gases, vehicular pollution, burning of solid
wastes and concrete batching[2].
Vehicular Pollution is due to emissions from vehicle including PM10 and PM2.5, Sulphur Oxides,
Nitrogen Oxides, Volatile organic compounds, CO, air pollutants including Benzene, Carbon di oxide
(owning to the greenhouse effect), partially burnt Hydro Carbons and certain amount of Lead.

Ring Of Power In Plato s Republic
In Plato s Republic, many stories are used as allusions and metaphors to describe the issues being
discussed. One of these stories is known as the Ring of Gyges , which focuses on a ring with the
power to turn the wearer invisible. This story has many similarities to the Ring of Power in The Lord
of The Rings and The Hobbit, which also grants the ability to turn invisible. In this essay, I will
compare and contrast the Ring of Gyges and the events surrounding the Ring of Power in The Lord of
the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies. The Ring of Gyges is found when a violent thunderstorm and
an earthquake broke open a chasm in the ground (38). The Ring of Power is also found within the
ground, by a curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. This occurs when Bilbo is lost within the goblin city,
when he runs into the deformed Gollum. In the other story, the ring is found on, a corpse, which
seemed to be of more than human size (38). Gollum, the ring bearer prior to Bilbo Baggins is much
smaller than the average human, due to his ancestry as Riversfolk and the powers of the ring, which
make his soul less just, and power thirsty. The Ring of Gyges is found by a shepherd in the service of
the ruler of Lydia (38), who can be considered a person of lowly status. On the other hand, Bilbo is a

The Ring of Power automatically turns the wearer invisible, if they decide to wear it. Once Bilbo
discovers the power of the ring, he uses it for increasingly unjust deeds. Originally, he only uses it to
escape the villainous creature Gollum, but he finally uses it to steal the Arkenstone from a dragon.
Gyges only uses the ring for heinous deeds, such as when he, seduced the king s wife, attacked the
king with her help, killed him, and in this way took over his kingdom

Relationship Between Integrity And Civility
Integrity and civility tend to relate between meanings. Integrity is the being honest with strong morals.
An example of this is returning a dollar to a person instead of keeping it for yourself. People who have
integrity are easy to trust therefore easy to create long lasting relations with. Civility is formal
politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech. This is just a respectful way to speak or treat to
someone. An example of this is simply greeting someone with a polite handshake. The relationship
between these is that civility plays along with integrity. If you have good morals than you are
respectful to people, as the saying goes treat others the same way you want to be treated.
Society has been slowly becoming worse and worse overtime. Even though the time we live in is the
most technologically advanced it s ever been, it s not without its negative side effects. From creating
new standards for how one must live to social media letting us hate behind screens, new technology
has ruined us creating us into insecure monsters. This leads to most to not caring about their actions
and the repercussions of them because people think that they have the ability to do anything. ... Show

Integrity, for example, can define a strong, healthy bond between two friends or lovers. Building trust
and respecting each other is the way to build a great relation. An example is if a boss has integrity, this
creates a better relationship between him and his workers creating a better performance for a better
product because they have trust in each other to get their ends of the deal done. This also can create
civility with each other leading to more cooperation because by being polite creates respect. In my life
I have seen both of these at times, but not as much as I would like

Prejudice And Ethnic Cleansing
Prejudice: a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Ethnic Cleansing:
an extreme version of acting on prejudices by the mass expulsion or killing of members of an
unwanted ethnic or religious group in a society. These two phrases have the power to change the
course of history and leave an unimaginable number hurt in its wake. The most well known example
of prejudice leading to ethnic cleansing is that of Nazi Germany and despite lack of coverage, has not
been the only one. On the contrary, there has been numerous account of prejudice and ethnic cleansing
in more countries including our own, in regards to the Japanese Internment. Thus, residents of the US
cannot express the ideology of its always them, not us from the small information learned in school. In
fact, these same phrases are still in effect today with the events transpiring in Darfur. It is a painful
trend of events that one could argue as being part of the human condition; Yet without proper
reflection of ourselves and the world who can say what is true for the human race.
Take a minute and think about the word Genocide. From this word only, many will provide the
example of Nazi Germany. From 1934 1945, the Nazi Party began a hunt for cleansing Germany of
the Jews, who were unjustly held responsible for why Germany hit hard times. Furthermore, the Jews
were put into camps and interned for what may have been the rest of their lives. In Photo A, prisoners

Human Evolution Quiz
Hello,
I took the time to take the Human Variation Quiz before reviewing the text and lesson. I wanted a less
informed view.
Identify which question(s) you had the most difficulty in answering.
While a few of the questions required thought, there were only a few that I was unsure about.
Questions number 3, Asians, Africans and Europeans share common DNA variations, but African s
have additional variations that the other two categories do not. I found that difficult because I had
assume there were no difference. What does this mean? It means that race is not genetic.
Sickle cell trait is not determined according to skin color. Instead, it is an evolutionary trait to resist
malaria. Which is common The vast majority of cases in the United States ... Show more content on

It is not the only factor that changes DNA. Natural selection and our environment have an effect, but it
is a slower progress.
Why are such misconceptions about race popularized?
With any misconception, the problem stems from lack of knowledge. The term race used presently is
incorrect and became popularized Contemporary scholars agree that race was a recent invention and
that it was essentially a folk idea, not a product of scientific research and discovery (www.pbs.org).
Race is term that is built on the science of genetics.
Let s begin from a more genetic approach. Unlike species of primates, human being do not vary as
largely as popular opinion would have you believe. A person taken from Asia and then compared to
one from Africa would have small genetic variations. That is not taking into consideration genetic
drift. If instead a person was take from everyone 100 miles instead, you would see the change in
genetics. That is not because of raise but due to environmental and social differences.
Now for the misconception of skin color. Skin color is an evolutionary trait. Natural selection to a skin
color that is most beneficial to the area of the planet. A person who lives in an area that receives high
amounts of UVB rays requires darker pigmentations to protect from over saturation of vitamin D and
skin

The Effects Of Shinto Religion On Japan
In an article written by Christian Centuries in 2016. In this article, the writer goes over the love the
prime minister has for the Ise Grand Shrine, which is the most sacred place in Japan. The writer also
starts off the article stating that the prime minister s commitment to the Shinto religion, it led him to
become more of a Liberal Democrat and his teachings and ruling went off of the Democrat ways to
purse the wide range of Shinto religion policies.
The article goes on to explain the effects that the Shinto religion has had on Japan. The religion was
not thought of as much as it was back in the prewar days. The religion prays to the God Kami , which
means spirits in both living and inanimate objects. Along came the 19th century and Japan

  • 2. Mr. Stevens Failure Humanity progresses through trial and error. Whenever an idea is conceived, we look back on either our life or those who are thought to have a similar experience in order to make a final judgement on which action to take. This is how the process has gone for thousands of years; but in the end we all endure some kind of failure. We often look back and realize how obvious of a bad choice it was, and in the end we chalk it up to another lesson learned. However, there are some of us who think a bit more before we speak in order to avoid failure and disappointment, but how far will that tactic take us? In Kazuo Ishiguro s, The Remains of the Day, protagonist Mr. Stevens constantly goes out of his way to avoid failure. In his eyes, the house is relative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What makes his father a great butler is the loyalty between the butler and the employer, which Stevens defines as dignity. The night his father passes is a great example of how he upholds dignity. Stevens concludes that if he were to mourn his father s death instead of tending to Lord Darlington s meeting, the night would have been wasted. ...I go so far to suggest that I did perhaps display, in the face of everything, at least in some modest degree a dignity worthy of someone live Mr. Marshall or come to that my father (110). Stevens also foreshadows his realization of failure through his father. In the memory of his father passing away, one of the last phrases he hears from him is, I haven t been a good father, haven t I? Stevens father has looked back on his his life and wondered if the dignity of being a butler was worth his life. By focusing solely on his career, he didn t have time to bond with the love ones the way he wanted to. Stevens eventually realizes this at the end of the novel, wondering if all the time he spent serving Lord Darlington and not taking interest in Miss Keaton was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, if you want your yard to look good and remain healthy year round, you will need to establish a winter lawn care regimen. That means knowing what you need to do for your lawn and when you need to implement your winter lawn care strategy to achieve a pristine landscape. And the first step begins with learning exactly what it is you need to do to succeed. When Should I Begin My Winter Lawn Care Regimen? Even though you are implementing a winter lawn care regimen, the work you need to do will actually need to be performed in the fall. There are several things you will need to do before the winter season arrives. Aeration. You can add aeration to your lawn using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, with that being said, your lawn will need to be watered even during the winter. A lawn needs at least one to two inches of water per week and depending on how much rain you ve had, you might need to water it once and sometimes twice a week. You will be able to tell if your lawn is getting enough water by inserting a six inch screwdriver into the ground, and if the screwdriver can t be easily pressed into the ground, then your lawn isn t getting enough water. How Do I Winterize My Lawn Mower? If you want to keep your lawn mower in good shape, you will need to winterize it prior to storing it for the winter. There are several steps you will need to take, if you don t want to be left with some repairs in the spring. Stabilize the Fuel. If you store your lawn mower in the basement, you should run the engine until the gas runs out; otherwise, it could clog the carburetor. If you store your lawn mower in the garage, you should fill up the tank to help prevent condensation and add some fuel stabilizer to it, which can be purchased at your local home improvement store. Newell s CEO at that time was John McDonough, who was in charge of positioning the publicly traded company to an improved revenue base through differential product mix. The idea to broaden Newell Company through acquisition was an energetic and very optimistic strategic initiative to increase shareholder value in a shortened period of time. The basic concept was focusing on the talent of volume merchandising. Decades of supplying large retailers such as Woolworth, Kmart, Wal Mart, Staples, Home Depot, and others, gave Newell the necessary skill to provide excellent service. Newell began a strategy of acquiring faltering companies instituting proven Newell corporate management strategies. Acquisitions fail more often than not. Newell takes a risk every time it acquires a new company. Conflicts often arise when two corporate cultures meld. Acquiring diverse companies does not allow Newell to master the manufacturing processes of each product. Newell focuses primarily on consolidating financial systems, sales and order processing systems, and flexible manufacturing systems. Acquiring such diverse businesses, which are already faltering, is a very risky corporate strategy. A key part of Newellization is creating efficiencies through plant closures and labor reductions. For many Solomon Islanders Woodford is unaffordable however it is cheaper for Solomon Island citizens at $50,700.00 compared to $68,440.00 per year. This does not deter international students from going to Woodford as the principle Anthony Baron, stated that they had close to 50% Solomon Island students and 50% of the students from other parts of the world. This creates a multicultural environment for all young people at the school and improves cultural awareness in the region. Tomalin and Stempleski (2013) agree with this and suggest that this is important because it helps students understand everyone has different cultural behaviours, words may have different connotations to someone from another culture and creates curiosity about other cultures as well as encouraging empathy. By learning at an overseas international school and coming back to Australia young people develop broad cultural awareness which they can teach their peers. INTRODUCTION The true essence of being great is to be the servant of all, as what Jesus shared with his disciples in the story of the parable of the labourers in the vineyard and I quote: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and give His life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28). I am blessed to have been a part of the Superintendent s Leadership Program (SLP) Batch 2 of the Department of Education in partnership with De La Salle University, the Philippines Australia Human Resource and Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF), Eugenio Lopez Center (ELC) and Knowledge Channel. According to Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro, FSC, SLP is a journey with the generals expected to be the frontliners of the entire transformation initiative of the department. Eugenio Lopez Center is the place for that dream to transform the kind of education we have in the Philippines. I could vividly remember that statement and it has moved me to give my best as a Schools Division Superintendent of the Schools Division of Bayawan City. No matter how small that city division maybe, but if it will have the great leadership, it will make the difference. According to Maxwell, everything falls and rises in leadership ( Maxwell,2007). This is likely shocking to most of you. Let me be clear by what I intend to convey by identifying as such. I do not mean to say I am opposed to religion, or claim there is no God. I still identify very much with LDS culture and attend church regularly. Rather, I identify as an atheist as a way to convey that I seem to have lost Faith that there is a God. Over the last year I have studied and ponder in depth to discover as best I could truth. Before I get there I want to be clear as to the perspective in which I am coming from. I was raised in a very active and loving family of the LDS Church. My family is still very active, my father and my mother have served in leadership roles. The Knife Thrower is a short story written by Steven Millhauser that focuses on three major concepts of human action and reaction. The story follows an audience of people as they watch an anticipating show of a knife thrower and his dangerous tricks. In the story, The Knife Thrower, Millhauser focuses on three major concepts of human action; how humans act amongst a group of people, how humans act when trust is built between two individuals, and how humans act when they witness pain and death in regards to the human body. The first concept that is focused on within this short story is the way humans act when they are amongst a group of people. When amongst a group of people, Millhauser s work shows that humans are quick to follow each other and they create a herd mentality. An important literary concept Millhauser uses to his advantage to express this is the use of first person narration. Millhauser uses words such as we and us to group together not only the audience s feelings and thoughts but also the readers. This is done so strategically to present this first concept of how people herd together in groups during times of hesitation. The first way this is shown is when the audience has the opportunity to volunteer to receive the mark from the master (6). Everyone is extremely hesitant and looking at each other for some sort of direction on how to react. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the start of the migration, people and settlers came for a new beginning and also a fresh start at life itself. With that tough task at hand, it also came with a price, such as equality, fighting for rights, the constant need for change and following a movement. During this essay I will be able to shed some light and point of views on equality on generations, political pressure, engaging in strikes and the division in social classes. The social classes are divided in this perspective, if you knew or know someone of power them you belonged and if you didn t, then in turn you were looked down upon as someone with no rights. A mystery in the case was that one of the local neighbors had mentioned seeing the woman leave through the front door of her house but the evidence says different, so investigators had to find out who left the house that morning. This means even after a week the blood has been cleaned up, luminol can still detect it. Also after applying luminol, the area needs to be darkened so that blue glow can be emitted. The iron from the hemoglobin in the blood causes luminol to glow, so a blue glow is produced when the solution is sprayed where there is blood. Only a tiny amount of iron is required to catalyze the reaction (Helmenstine, 2012). The use of luminol revealed that there were blood stains on the bed sheets and suspected that the woman was killed in her bedroom and that she did not go to work that day or leave the house. Upon further analysis of the woman s bedroom, the forensic officers used a chemical called amido black. Amido black is a protein dye that is sensitive to the protein in blood and when it makes contact stains a latent blue black colour. It is used for revealing fingerprints, trace evidence, and fibers that may be in the crime scene. This technique was not useful for the officers because they could not find any prints or evidence. The forensic officers also performed an ultraviolet light test which was used to reveal trace evidence such as vaginal fluid, urine, semen, or saliva. The analysis in which a gas chromatograph is operated is called gas chromatography. Figure 1 below is a basic representation of the instrument and the following statement is a simple representation of the overall process of a GC: It is a technique in which a sample solution is injected into the instrument through a septum, where it introduced into a gas stream that transports the sample into a separation tube known as a column. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The selection of the gas is important, as each performs differently with the type of detector that is being operated. The three most commonly selected gases for an experiment involving a gas chromatograph are hydrogen, helium, and nitrogen. Diffusivity and viscosity are two characteristics that will influence the performance of these gases. The diffusion coefficient, also called diffusivity is a parameter that is indicative of the diffusion mobility that is, it presents a mechanism for measurement for the diffusion speed of a solute s vapor in a gas. The speed of chromatography is determined by the diffusion speed of the solute in the carrier gas. A molecule evaporating from the stationary phase and proceeding into the stream of gas should be capable of diffusing back into the stationary phase before having to undergo the partitioning process again. It is this diffusion of molecules that set apart the gases. In order to obtain a good separation, the most desired carrier gases are those that come in contact with the column a significant number of times. There is a limit to this however, the more time that the gas is given for radial diffusion (diffusion in the direction of the stationary phase), the more time there is for band broadening (longitudinal diffusion). For this reason there is an optimal gas velocity, where it supplies maximum contact with the stationary phase and minimum band broadening in the gas phase. This book discussed various ways one can build their self esteem. This is one of many of Branden s books on self esteem but this one is focusing on the aspect of living consciously. He promotes this as the idea of living consciously as a healthy aspect of self esteem in a person s mental abilities and respect for reality. He applies his theory of living consciously to specific aspects of life such as relationships, parenting, and in the workplace. He explains that what can help us all live this way is by knowing what we are doing while we are doing it. Though this may seem like a very simple task but one that would require some discipline. One of the interesting aspects of Branden s work is that he walks us through situations we would encounter in our everyday lives and then has the reader ask themselves questions like How can we be more conscious in this area? and How can we tell we are doing right? This helps the reader feel more connected with his writing. They may be able to envision how they can live more conscious and their life and become more aware of how to living this way. Some of the topics Branden really highlighted throughout his book was the importance of reason and the commitment of awareness. But he s does this in such a desirable approach, he does not try to validate his points instead he examines life starting from child and shows how things in life could have affected your way to practice the principles to live in this state. He writes about the lives of himself and other involved in his life and puts us in situations showing that to be more aware of the reality around you can make yourself stand out to others who bury themselves in unconsciousness. Yet his way of displaying this message is so approachable because he discourages the common idea that reason rather than experience is the key to knowledge and he also speaks to you through your experiences that really make you think. This paradox is very similar to the idea of the Dichotomy so by explaining the example of Achilles and the Tortoise both will be covered. Zeno came up with the idea of the Dichotomy, which means dividing by two. As an example for this he came up with the example of a character called Achilles. One day Achilles and a tortoise had a speed race against each other. Obviously the tortoise is much slower to Achilles was so modest to allow him to have a head start of 100 meters. As Zeno and Aristoteles says, when the race starts Achilles has to catch up with the tortoise so he sprints. While this is happening he is halving the distance towards the tortoise. There is no problem here because assuming no acceleration or deceleration, he is always going to half the distance as shown on this picture: Assuming that Achilles is running at 10meters per second (m/s) one can logically say that ... In this example Zeno assumes that time, in his definition, is only made up of a series of moments . In this paradox one arrow, just a regular arrow, has been shot or is just simply in motion. Zeno himself states that with his paradox, no motion is occurring while the arrow is in motion. This is because he assumes that for each instance of time, which can be broken up into small intervals as defined earlier by him, no movement occurs. Again explaining this more in detail, he is saying that because of all these moments occurring and being able to divide these up into smaller intervals which then ultimately lead to the point where the arrow is not moving at all because time has moments and no movement occurs in that moment of time. After a while I fell asleep and when I woke up I saw a Twitter notification on my phone which prompted me to open up the app. I scrolled through the app and was on there for almost an hour. Once I was in bed I was no longer sleepy so I decided to watch a movie on Netflix. After the movie was over I checked social media one more time before I went to sleep. In the start of my day I usually check social media, text or news while I am on my way to class in the morning. This time I did not. The difficult part came when I was done with my classes for the day and had nothing to do. Of course, when I am bored I get on my phone or watch Netflix in my room. • 42. Pros And Cons Of Biological Weapons Bill gates has warned world leaders that Bioterrorism could kill more people than nuclear war, but do we know what bioterrorism is? Bioterrorism also known as biological warfare is defined as use of infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, germs, fungi or toxins against enemy s soldiers, civilians, animals or crops as a weapon of war. Small pox viruses and bacterium like Yersinia pestis which causes plague are examples of such biological agents. As with other forms of terrorism, its purposes include the undermining of morale, creating chaos, or achieving political goals These weapons are used for either killing or incapacitating people.. In the past, the weapons employed by nations were more easily recognizable and defendable. For example, surveillance allows missile silos to be detected, and counter strategies put in place to deal with the launch of the missiles. Microorganisms, however, by virtue of their small size can be readily hidden from detection. Biological weapons have been called poor nation s atomic bomb, because they can be developed and used by nations who lack resources to invest in their own nuclear program. Nuclear weapons require expensive radioactive materials, and both nuclear and chemical weapons require significant scientific infrastructure to develop and deploy them. On the contrary, biological weapons do not require rare materials, significant infrastructure or advance scientific knowledge. Biological weapons can potentially be developed and even ... • 44. Kenneth Branagh s Depiction Of Act 1 Of Hamlet The Effectiveness of Kenneth Branagh s Depiction of Act 1 of Hamlet To begin, many parts of Kenneth Branagh s depiction of Hamlet are effective, as they use cinematic elements to illustrate the depth of the play. First, Branagh s version uses music throughout the scenes to emphasize emotions and conflict. During scene one, at the battlements of Elsinore Castle, the director incorporates trumpets and bells to signify the royal aspect of the setting, but then transitions into softer, more haunting music, creating an ominous atmosphere. Furthermore, the music is especially effective during transitions between scenes. When Hamlet discovers Horatio and Marcellus have seen the ghost, it produces suspense, as he predicts foul deeds will rise (1.2.256). This emphasizes the disorder caused by King Hamlet s ghost roaming Elsinore, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of colour also helps highlight different emotions. After Marcellus, Barnardo, and Horatio encounter the ghost in scene one, a colourful sunrise transitions into scene two. When Horatio reveals the cock, that is the trumpet to the morn/ Doth with his lofty and shrill sounding throat/ Awake the god of day (1.1.150), it is effective because it produces a hopeful atmosphere at the prospect of it being light outside, rather than dark and ominous like before. Also, when everyone is gathered in the great hall of Elsinore Castle, Hamlet still wears mourning clothes. When questioned about his sadness by Claudius and Gertrude, he states I am too much i th sun , therefore the contrast in colour emphasizes the inference one makes that the wedding is affecting Hamlet deeply (1.2.67). Where ever you had men that were settling the West, you had prostitutes. The practice had become so big in the United States that women would often migrate from other countries to be a part of the profession (AlterNet). • 46. The Problem Of Aggression And Violence Aggression and violence are common in every day life, so common everyone is exposed to it. Krahe defines aggression as behavior that has intention to inflict negative consequences on a target with an expectancy the action will have a particular outcome (2001).There are an innumerable amount of studies to explain why aggression and violence occur, which are ranged from social and biosocial explanations as seen by the frustration and aggression theory (Dollard, 1939), the excitement transfer theory (Zillman, 1979), and the social learning theory (Bandura, 1961). Also ranged from biological theories, such as, psychodynamic (Freud, 1920), evolutionary (Buss, 1990), and ethological (Lorenz, 1966). Aggression has many forms, from social, verbal and physical aggression and other serious kinds of violence (Karriker Jaffe, Foshee, Ennett, Suchindran, 2008). Based on theories and studies; I will propose my FIVEstop approach, which are 5 solutions that may help reduce aggressive in society, and why the solutions may work. First, I recommend starting with children and parents. Since children are our future adults who will grow to learn different behaviors and actions, I believe it is crucial to reduce aggression in children first starting from birth. Many studies have shown that spanking children causes aggression. Maccoby (1992) found that children who have experienced physical discipline from their parents are more aggressive than those who have not. However, to understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Ring Of Power In Plato s Republic In Plato s Republic, many stories are used as allusions and metaphors to describe the issues being discussed. One of these stories is known as the Ring of Gyges , which focuses on a ring with the power to turn the wearer invisible. This story has many similarities to the Ring of Power in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit, which also grants the ability to turn invisible. In this essay, I will compare and contrast the Ring of Gyges and the events surrounding the Ring of Power in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies. The Ring of Gyges is found when a violent thunderstorm and an earthquake broke open a chasm in the ground (38). The Ring of Power is also found within the ground, by a curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. This occurs when Bilbo is lost within the goblin city, when he runs into the deformed Gollum. In the other story, the ring is found on, a corpse, which seemed to be of more than human size (38). Gollum, the ring bearer prior to Bilbo Baggins is much smaller than the average human, due to his ancestry as Riversfolk and the powers of the ring, which make his soul less just, and power thirsty. The Ring of Gyges is found by a shepherd in the service of the ruler of Lydia (38), who can be considered a person of lowly status. Questions number 3, Asians, Africans and Europeans share common DNA variations, but African s have additional variations that the other two categories do not. With any misconception, the problem stems from lack of knowledge.
