The Theory Of Constraints, Lean Manufacturing And Six Sigma
ABSTRACT:
The new technological innovation and globalization in the manufacturing industries has easily seen in
different forms like digital supply chain management, automation, quality and safety standards. The
use on new technological innovation in to their Business practices is to reduce cost, decrease defects,
Increase efficiency and to enhance the quality of the products to customers. So many theories are
developed as per present situation and atmosphere in the manufacturing industry. By studying further
the existing system are developed further in to easier way. The main objective of this project is to
study, investigate and compare the potentials of lean, six sigma and theory of constraints when applied
in an integrated way in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lean must be brought into the discussion as a possible means of supplementing and strengthening lean
manufacturing in situations where its principles may fall short. In this Project we want to emphasize
on three methods
Lean Manufacturing
six sigma
Theory of Constraints.
In many organizations we find these being practiced with or without knowledge of the whole system
but the main intention is to deliver a product with quality and safety as their prime concerns. In this
project initially we shall discuss the three methods individually next we describe the similarities as
well as the ambiguities.

SIX SIGMA:
The term six sigma is instituted by an Engineer of Motorola Inc. named Bill Smith Forbes reports that
by usage of six sigma Motorola has increased more than $16 billion investment funds in 1980 s by
Standardizing core procedures. Six sigma is an exceedingly restrained procedure that empowers

The History of AIDS and HIV
In this HHMI lecture, the speaker, Dr. Ojiktu, combined basic research and clinical and public health
work in her talk just as she does in her everyday work life. She is a medical doctors that sees many
patients between the Boston area and a South African province in which 1 and 5 people are infected
with the a virus that causes aids. She discuses the microscopic realm of the virus and virus infected
cells to AIDS therapies. Dr. Ojiktu treats people with HIV and other infectious diseases. She enjoys
linking what is happening here and overseas. She also works on a team to develop programs and do
research concerning aids. In 1980 a strange new disease was growing, starting in Los Angeles. This
disease presented vague symptoms such as weight loss, lack of energy, diarrhea, fevers and sweats,
rashes, and swollen lymph nodes. These symptoms could be caused by any viral infectious. The
unique thing is that these systems were chronic, progressive, and debilitating. Some patients presented
very bad shortness of breath and a bad cough. With this they found that the patients had a rare fungal
infection called Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP). There were also some cases concerning these
symptoms in New York City. These cases are rare so the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
noticed a spike in the drug Pentamidine (a drug used to treat PCP, typically used on cancer patients).
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sent out Dr. Golfi to investigate. Dr. Golfi

Defects Of Nuclear Weapons
Isolde Fang Current issue Benefits and defects of nuclear weapons The use of nuclear weapons is a
heated topic today, catching more attention from both the public and governments than before. While
many countries favor nuclear weapons for safety and international reasons, nuclear weapons do have
defects in moral, environmental, and economic aspects. For counties that favor nuclear weapons, they
favor them because of the benefits brought by them in guaranteeing national safety and boosting
international status. Nuclear weapons can protect a country physically, like a physical protection of
national territory, just as Sico van der Meer writes in his article States Motivations to Acquire or Forgo
Nuclear Weapons that nuclear weapons are considered to be the ultimate tool for survival. (2016) This
citation shows that nuclear weapons are so powerful that they can be used as the ultimate tool of
survival. Due to their power, they can protect a country s territory from external aggression by
deterring other countries. Japan is a good example of this kind of country. There are many possible
reactions Japan can made after the threat from North Korea of nuclear attack of U.S. bases in Japan.
Some assert that protecting Japan itself by developing nuclear weapons is a good way (Corr, 2017).
By developing nuclear weapons, Japan can deter North Korea from actual nuclear attack and protect
itself from warfare. Free of intrusion and warfare is what always pursued by all

1984 Comparison Essay
George Orwell s 1984 is a great allegory about life under communist rule. Throughout the book there
are many concepts that directly relate to the rule of Josef Stalin in the U.S.S.R. The first evidence can
be seen in the posters of Big Brother that are posted everywhere around London. These posters are
described as having the face of a man of about forty five, with a heavy black mustache and ruggedly
handsome features . (1) Similarly, most if not all of the Stalin era propaganda posters featured an
image of Stalin which resembles the description of Big Brother. The resemblance of Big Brother to
Stalin is not the only reference to communism in 1984. Another connection that could be made
between communism and Oceanic society is economic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
there is also the control of the media. Similar to how the Party controlled every medium in Oceania;
Stalin s communist party controlled every medium in the U.S.S.R. during its reign and any sort of
political unorthodoxy was forbidden.(lib) In both instances nothing that cast either Big Brother or
Stalin in a negative light was allowed. Consequently, both Stalin and Big Brother developed a cult of
personality . This meant that since everything about them was portrayed in a positive light they were
idolized by the people in their nation. This is evidenced in 1984 by the passage about how Big Brother
is to be seen in Goldstein s book, Big Brother is infallible and all powerful. Every success, every
achievement, every victory, every scientific discovery, all knowledge, all wisdom, all happiness, all
virtue, are held to issue directly from his leadership and inspiration. (121) This is why the term Big
Brother was used in 1984 he was the savior of the people, their protector. A real life parallel to this is
that Stalin was commonly referred to as Uncle Joe. The effect of the media control turned them both
into objects of adulation that could do no

The Conflict Of Interest And Four Barriers To SME Cooperation
SMEs cooperation is one of the most popular strategies SMEs deploy to spread business risks, gain
access to technology, distribution channels and deferred taxes. Through access to other firm
proprietary resources, the concerned SMEs are likely to create synergistic effect imperative to gain
competitive advantages that would facilitate improved market and financial performance. Highlighting
the benefits of cooperation, several studies indicated SMEs partners can gain access to new
technology, gain tacit knowledge, create economies of scale, save costs and achieve flexibility and
quality improvement. They however opined that conflict of interest and low trust are usually inhibiting
factors to SMEs cooperation. From the above, the objective of this paper is to provide a better ... Show

Few of these factors are e discussed here. Lack of Interest in Cooperation: This is a barrier to SMEs
cooperation as SMEs orientations tend toward individualism rather than collectivisms will show no
interests in cooperating with other to gain competitive advantages. Low Trust: Ability, benevolence,
and integrity are attributes of the trustworthiness of a trustee. Ability refers to the skills, competencies,
and characteristics of trustee; benevolence is the extent to which a trustee is believed to do good to the
trustor; and integrity is the consistency of the trustee s past actions and credible communication. These
indicators of trust are likely to increase SMEs confidence in cooperation. However, perceived lack
ability, benevolence, and integrity demotivate SMEs involvement in cooperation. These is especially
when the cooperation firms do not believe each other ability (competences and resources) to fulfil

The Causes of Crime. What are the causes of crime essay
For centuries, the one plague that human civilization faces is a disease that has no evident cure crime.
Before one can even try to find solutions for it, one must understand what a crime is and the nature of
crime. Crime itself is defined as any offence harmful against society. The nature of crime however
deals with the motives and causes of crime, which has no one clear cut explanation. There are several
different theories on the cause of crime such as heredity, gender and mental defects, but each one is
not substantial enough to explain crime and why it takes place. The theory on heredity as being the
source of crime is based on the idea that criminal activity is predisposed by human genes. Gender
being the root of crime suggests that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
...The capacity to be affected by how others feel is developed in the earliest years before the age of
about three. What is more significant is that this capacity cannot be learned or taught or put into a
person after that age with any known method of treatment. This capacity to be affected by how others
feel is developed most strongly when infants and toddlers are empathically cared for by the same few
people all the time people who are willing and able to meet the child s emotional needs.
During the early stages of childhood, the most important part of development takes place. If there is a
significant lack of attention and interaction during this time, the child may end up being drawn away
from society and isolated. Sometimes it is the parents fault for not being able to raise socially
competent children and other times it is institutions such as public schools. Certain children need that
extra help or support that may not be provided at school. These children then end up turning to crime
such as theft or drug dealing in order to compensate. Their life lesson is in the streets not in the homes
or schools. Also, this idea of social norms put such an emphasis on acceptance that children who do
not fit in become alienated. A healthy life needs some acceptance from friends and family, but if a
child experiences a lack of it, the results could be tragic. Take for

Fish Analysis
If you like fish chances are you like catfish. The following recipe is a great way to prepare your catfish
fillets for a great change from the routine of fried catfish. The blackening technique, used in this
recipe, is credited to chef Paul Prudhomme of New Orleans and has since been adapted for use with
several kinds of meats and poultry but fish seems to be the most popular for this process.

I like to use fresh bacon grease in my skillet. I just coat the bottom right before I add the fillet and then
clean the skillet between fillets to rid it of any burnt bacon grease. I think I just like the bacon
appetizer I get with this recipe so I think I will stick with it. My kids love to sneak up and snatch a
piece when I m not looking too. If you don t have a cast iron skillet you can use a regular skillet and if
you don t have a burner to use outside you can do this on the stove but be sure to have the fan on high
and maybe open a window or two. The smoke will burn your eyes and throat so be careful with that.
Catfish don t seem to smoke near as much as salmon either because of the oils in the salmon or my
reluctance to get the skillet as hot as my friend does but either way it is all worth the efforts.
Blackened catfish can be served with just tarter sauce and a cold drink and chips or you can get a little
fancy and serve it on a bed of rice with mixed vegetables and a glass of wine with lemon juice over
the fillet, it really works well either

Antigone, Star Wars, and the Good Life
Sophocles s play Antigone promotes a good life that, through careful analysis, is very similar to the
Stoic theory of the good life. Antigone is a story about the members of the ancient Theban aristocracy
vying for control of themselves and others; however, in its core it contains an exploration of the good
life, that is trying to investigate what values will allow one to get what they want out of life. A group
of philosophers, also of Greek origin, produced a theory of this topic; this group of thinkers is called
the Stoics. Concerning the good life they had two main values, from which they believe a good life
can originate. The first of the two is finding happiness from inner resources, or trying not to depend on
things around you such as wealth or adventure to give you a sense of happiness. The second facet is
that of not worrying about things that are out of your control, as there is no use. Antigone brings to
stage these topics, and shows characters who either live according to them, and exit with a good life,
and others who deny these, and end the play living in a bad life. Therefore the play shows through
example, that Stoic values will lead to a positive way of living, and living against the values will lead
to you not getting everything out of life. The two main characters in this tragedy are Creon, the king of
Thebes, and uncle of the other character Antigone, the daughter of the last king of the same city
Thebes. Creon does not live according to the values of

Coming Of Age In Mississippi Analysis

Anne Moody had always heard about so many people shot dead floating down the river but she never

quiet until they started shouting about a fourteen year old boy that got killed by white men because he

Why Organisations Need to Change
Why organisations need to change
Change management is relevant as though the research finds that change is taking place at an ever
increasing pace, the evidence suggests that most change initiatives fail. For example, recent CIPD
research suggested that less than 60% of re organisations met their stated objectives which are usually
bottom line improvement. This is consistent with other published research.
The impact of failures to introduce effective change can also be high: loss of market position, removal
of senior management, loss of stakeholder credibility, loss of key employees.
Finally, one organisational response to change is that organisational forms are themselves evolving.
Therefore, the change management response will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Management need to be aware of these different criteria to ensure they respond appropriately.
Suggested reasons for resistance include: loss of control, shock of new, uncertainty, inconvenience,
threat to status, competence fears. It is important to try to diagnose the cause of employee resistance as
this will help determine the focus of effort in trying to reduce/remove the issue.
What can be done to make change management more effective?
From the issues raised in the section above, it can be seen that change is complex and there is not a
single solution. However, a number of key areas of focus emerge.
Effective leadership is a key enabler as it provides the vision and the rationale for change. Different
styles of leadership have been identified, for example coercive, directive, consultative and
collaborative. These different styles may each be appropriate depending on the type and scale of
change being undertaken. For example, when there is a large scale organisation wide change a
directive style has been identified as most effective.
Appropriate and timely training is frequently identified as key to effective change. Examples of
training requirements might include:
* Project and programme management skills to ensure change initiatives are completed both on time
and to budget.

Related To The Golden Ratio
This short report and presentation related to the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio has interested
mathematicians for a long time. The Golden Ratio is a special number that is defined mathematically
from
which produces 1.618033989..., commonly used as the approximation 1.618. There is interesting fact
that digits just keep on going to infinity, with no pattern. Mathematically, the Golden Ratio is tends to
be an irrational number.
Two numbers tend to be golden if the ratio of their sum to the bigger number is equal as the larger to
the smaller number. In other words, this relationship could be expressed with the following equation:
In the case of a rectangle, if k is the length of the longer sides, whereas m is the length of the shorter
sides, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically, this number can be found in the architecture of many ancient buildings such as the
Parthenon and the Great Pyramids. Some investigations of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon,
established that majority of its proportions mostly are close to the golden ratio. It could be concluded
that architects knew the golden ratio, that is why classical buildings and their elements are
proportioned according to the golden ratio. The design of the Parthenon was created according to the
Golden ratio, as illustrated in the picture 1. Another famous example of usage the Golden ratio in
architecture is the Acropolis of Athens. The dimensions of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is
approximately 4,600 years old, are also based on the Golden Ratio. When it comes to art, there are
several illustrations, which can prove that the Golden ratio is used in the arts as well. For instance,
Leonardo da Vinci s paintings in De Divina Proportione (On the Divine Proportion) and Mona Lisa
employ the Golden ratio in their geometric equivalents. Also Mondrian used the Golden number in his
masterpiece as well as Salvador Dali in his The Sacrament of the Last

Athlete Are Paid Too Much
Today s professional athletes make ridiculous salaries and are only increasing year after year. Every
year we hear how a professional athlete just signed a contract worth a record amount. Then about the
same time next year we hear about another athlete is signing a new contract worth even more than the
previous high. Professional athletes are making too much money in a society that salaries and wages
are typically based on the value of ones work. In today s society where salaries are determined by an
individuals labour put into when providing a good or service. It is expected that individuals that

It is remarkable how an athlete is paid millions of dollars to appear for a few hours for an advertising
campaign, while a surgeon who must perform a life affecting procedure for a few hours is paid a small
fraction of what an athlete earns. When considering team sports, it can be linked that higher payroll
teams win more games and win more championship. But, there should be a limit or salary cap in all
professional team sports. This creates greater competition between teams and more excitement for the
fans. If a league did not have a salary cap, only teams that have a history of winning games and
championships are able to pay top dollars for the best players. This makes it very difficult for younger
teams to succeed, or for new teams to enter the league. A prime example of a professional sport
without a salary cap is Major League Baseball. The New York Yankees had the highest payroll in 2007
of $218.3 million, while the World Series champion Boston Red Sox was a distant second at $155.4
million. Not only having the highest payroll, the Yankees had the highest revenue in the majors of
$415 million last year. By looking at the other end of the payroll column, one can link the payroll of
the team to its success in the league. For example, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays had the lowest payroll
in the majors last season of $31.8 million and have had the worst record. In the end, teams spent a
record $2.71 billion on players last year and the thirty

Congenital Disorders With Intellectual Disability
Chapter Five
5. Discussion
Congenital disorders with intellectual disability (ID) constitute a particularly significant medical
problem because of the high prevalence and life long care that patients will need. The extreme genetic
heterogeneity of ID is a major problem for pre and postnatal diagnosis. In some cases, however, early
detection of a mutation may be important to prevent the manifestation of the handicap (Avbelj et al.
2007). Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is one of the most frequent causes of preventable ID, which
can be averted by administering thyroid hormone in early postnatal life. This is achieved by newborn
screening detection.
Congenital hypothyroidism fulfills most of the criteria for disease screening as set out by Wilson and
Jungner (Wilson and Jungner 1968), in fact CH is four to five times more common than
Phenylketonuria for which newborn screening was initially developed (Chiesa, Rivolta, Targovnik,
Gruneiro Papendieck 2010).
Detection of CH by neonatal screening has been a major achievement because early diagnosis and
treatment result in normal development in nearly all cases. An additional benefit of neonatal screening
has been the elucidation of the incidence of CH as well as the prevalence of its various causes.
The incidence rate of CH is approximately 1 of 3000/4000 new births worldwide (Calaciura, Miscio,
Coco, Leonardi, Cisternino, Regalbuto, Bozzali, Maiorana, Ranieri, Carta, Buscema, Trischitta, Sava,
Tassi 2002). However, this

Essay about Love
Love Love is difficult to define, difficult to measure, and difficult to understand. Love is what great
writers write about, great singers sing about, and great philosophers ponder. Love is a powerful
emotion, for which there is no wrong definition, for it suits each and every person differently. Whether
love is between family, friends, or lovers, it is an overwhelming emotion that can be experienced in
many different ways. People experience love for the first time by being part of a family. Family love is
demonstrated through lessons of sacrifice, concern and compassion, from the cradle to the grave.
There are many different levels and conditions of family love. It is the love we cherish between our

A close knit loving bond between two people can begin with a friendship. Whether it is a friendship
between two males, two females, or one male and one female, these friendships will develop into love.
In no way is it a romantic love, but this type of love connects and bonds friends. Friends may move
away or friendships may wane, but the love between the two people burns on forever. Romantic love
is a love that not every person will experience. It is a type of love that is not there at the beginning, but
grows within the individual. When one finally finds the love they have been looking for, one can not
imagine life with anybody else. Romantic love is a connection between two souls that is captured with
a feeling that is not only felt within the heart but within their body as well. I have never been in love
with a girl; I can only imagine what it might be like to be in love. Guessing from my sister s
relationship with boys, it seems like a big headache instead of a wonderful feeling. To simply write a
definition of love is complicated because every person has a different perception of love. The only
way to capture the true meaning of love is to experience the feeling and find out for oneself, what love
is. In our lives and the lives of others, love is evident. Whether it is between family, friends, or lovers,
love is a precious

components of the computers available in today s market and suggest the users for making an efficient
choice for customizing their PCS. This is the most important section of the document and it deals with
the assembling, configuration, and installation the PC components. Even though this task cannot be

possible manner. The assembling of the software components of PC can easily be done by using some
of the available online resources. Therefore, I have intentionally excluded those steps to shorten the

improving the performance or for replacing a broken component, making a mindset for customizing

Similarities Between Navajo And Hopi
The perception of evil for the Navajo and Hopi widely differs from what our culture believes. To us,
you can either be good or evil but not both. We see a split and think that a person is just bad, whereas
the Navajo and Hopi cultures have views that are less severe to the individual in question. The Navajo
believe that what distinguishes good from evil is control, because acts can be both good and evil.
When something has little ability to be controlled by man, the situation has a higher likelihood of
being evil. Additionally, the Navajo don t see evil as being a kind of negative moral corruption or an
ethical problem. Instead, they see evil as being a realistic event, like death, illness, droughts, or
famines, because these events can t be controlled. When there is not control that is when evil prevails.

Unlike our culture, which see s evil as a punishment or retaliation, the Hopi see s evil as occurring if
someone has ill thoughts toward themselves or others. Another way for there to be a break in the
universe is if an individual dislikes some aspect of the universe. To the Hopi, the actions are what is
bad not the person, and the universe just needs to find equilibrium again when something bad
happens. Breaking the universe can occur when someone take more food than they need or if they are
not being generous enough with what he does have. When the universe needs to be restored because
evil has occurred, the Hopi individual must first examine himself to decide if he is in a happy state of
mind. If he is, the blame for the evil can be pushed to other. In this case, there is constant surveillance
of neighbors and close relatives do determine who is having ill thoughts, which is practice derived
from the Pueblo, however the Hopi are not as anxious about these practices. Additionally, the Hopi are

Judgements, a photograph captured by Rosea Lake, can be seen as an attempt to address the double
standard women face when presenting themselves to the world. The photo depicts the back of a young
woman s leg with her skirt hem slightly lifted. Horizontal markings on the subject s leg are
reminiscent of those on a measuring cup or ruler. The markings on the woman s leg are meant to be
length markings, specifically the length of a woman s garment hem. The horizontal markings don t

It s to the point, aesthetically pleasing, and brings to light an issue that isn t often discussed in

However, though I admire the piece and the message it shares, I do find myself disgruntled with it. As
a feminist, intersectionality is very important to me. I love supporting women of all shapes, sizes,
races, backgrounds, ages, social status, geographical location, and specific circumstance. Though the
issue of sexual objectification is a problem many women face, this seems like amn issue that s specific

Testaments Betrayed Analysis
While humans often live life in a duality, with a face they put on for the public and the true character
they show with friends, the private life may easily seep into the public eye. In his piece Testaments
Betrayed, Czech writer Milan Kundera asserts that the curtain between public and private lives is not
to be removed, and those who do so are deplorable voyeurs. Although it is immoral for one to reveal
another s private life, the barrier between public and private lives must be torn down when the public
benefits, whether by the intruder or the individual in question himself. For those declaring the need for
a societal shift in paradigm, leaders of a movement often need to intertwine their personal stories to
demonstrate the necessity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An individual s rights are secondary to those of society, which seeks to benefit and advance more. Eric
Garner was fatally choked by NYC police in 2015, prompting the rise of the Black Lives Matter
movement. His last words, I can t breathe, were captured on video and shared millions of times while
he was fading in and out of consciousness. While the bystander capturing the video may have intruded
into his privacy, that moment was a necessary mingling of public and private because it personified
the outrage present in society. In doing so, the bystanders demonstrated to a broad audience the
injustice present in society. The dual nature of an individual s public and private personas also exactly
demonstrates the necessity in breaching personal privacy, for individuals may have a different
personal agenda than the public façade they create. Many colleges now review a student s social
media profiles as a part of the holistic admissions process in order to verify the authenticity of a
student s supposed character. I personally had a friend who was a Big 10 bound athlete have his
contracts revoked because of his braggadocios nature on social media, often proclaiming how he had
received contracts from schools that, in reality, had not extended one. While supposedly a breach in
privacy of the prospective athlete, this step is necessary in the admissions process to ensure that the
team and college in general has a reputable student body. Thus, the curtain of privacy must be torn
away in situations where the public stands to gain knowledge to make informed

Immigration And Immigration Movement
The history of immigration and emigration in the United States is closely linked to the history of
railroads. Immigrants were not only integral to the construction of the transcontinental railroads that
facilitated western expansion, but they also used the railroad to migrate west and to form new
immigrant settlements in western states and territories.
In the early 19 century, United States expanded westward, across the Mississippi
River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or
seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of
wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who defended
their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the migration that
resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans engaged in what
Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. The settlers were motivated to expand to the
west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the expedition (1804 to 1806) through the
Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France in 1803. Their mission was assigned by
President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the land s resources, make diplomatic contact
with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a route to the Pacific Ocean.
The railroads of the 19th century had transformed America in ways that awed and dazzled onlookers

Six and Seven in Masque of the Red Death
Edgar Allan Poe was a writer who believed every single word contained meaning and in his own
words expressed this idea in brevity only he is capable, there should be no word written, of which
tendency, direct or indirect, is not to the one pre established design. (Poe 244). To this effect, Poe
drenches his works in symbolism and allegory. Especially in shorter works, Poe assigns meaning to
the smallest object, explicitly deriving exurbanite significance within concise descriptions. The
Masque of the Red Death tells the story of a Prince Prospero who along with his one thousand friends
sought a haven from the plague that was ravishing their country. They lived together in the prince s
luxurious abbey with all the amenities and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the seventh, and most westerly apartment, is black with red accents and represents the end of life,
the setting of the sun, and death. Poe did not intend a specific meaning for the number seven, just for
the reader to be aware of the passing of time and the idea that the prince was trying to recreate a
perfect world complete with all the appliances of pleasure Without was the Red Death. (238). The
Prince s recreation of the world is ironic because it is modeled after the one the Prince and his
followers are trying to escape. The seven perfect rooms foreshadow the evitable downfall of
perfection. The number seven appears six times in the text which may lead to some significance
behind that number as well. Six could represent human morality, the devil, spiritual imperfection. The
masquerade takes place in the sixth month of isolation in the abbey; the sixth apartment is where the
Prince finally confronts Red Death and eventually dies, falling in to the seventh apartment. The sixth
apartment is also colored violet, which has meaning of royalty and power. It may be irony that the
prince succumbs to the Red Death in the violet room and may have more to do with the fact that it is
the sixth room they meet. It is the number six that represents the defiance of god and marks several
anti Christ like figures in

I Had Pity For Both Morgan And Kiki During This Period
My Commentary: I had pity for both Morgan and Kiki during this period. Morgan was making strides,
and the chain of events that led to him losing Kiki and his life wouldn t have happened if it weren t for
Ava stealing his meds. It was heartbreaking to hear how confused and disenchanted he was in his
recovery journals (11/4), trying to do everything by the book and still failing. I had my first real
occurrences of compassion for Kiki, who expressed to both Franco (10/3) and Dillon (10/7) that she
was losing sight of herself by constantly being on emotional eggshells with Morgan, tending to his
needs while ignoring her own. I was impressed that the writers gave her enough self awareness to
acknowledge her revolving door dating patterns, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, excellent performances ensued, naturally (shout out to Dominic Zamprogna, A.K.A.
Dante). My personal favorites were from West and Wright. Ava s tortured breakdown on 10/11 after
hearing Morgan died was the stuff of soap dreams and West s innate passion was the perfect ingredient
for it. Mascara covered tears fell down her face, as guilt ridden flashes of her removing the pills
seesawed with memories of their tawdry love affair, causing her to obliviously drop her martini glass.
She sobs while picking up the shards, realizing she s involved in killing the only man she s loved since
being in PC. Overtaken, she flings the pieces and screams, What have I done?!! She bumps into
Bobbie the next day, who asks if she ever truly loved Morgan. Ava replies Yeah, I loved him...very
much. There was a time when he was the only one who saw good in me at all. Now I suppose anyone
who ever did (veiled reference to Nikolas?) is gone, and dashes off to crumble on the elevator. Carly s
bouts of rage were everything (I can t come up with a suitable adjective, so we ll go with everything ).
On 10/12, Sonny got it about Julian s hit. Before smashing a childhood photo of Morgan, she fumed,
...A bomb blew him up. You couldn t help yourself could you? You had to be the one to finish Julian.

One medication would be the bone remodeling process. There are two different stages of the bone
remodeling process. The first stage is bone resorption. Is is the breakdown and the removal of the
bones. During respiration special cells which are osteoclasts on the bone s surface dissolve bone tissue
and create small cavities. The second stage is the bone formation. During formation other cells also
known as osteoplasts fill the cavities with new bone tissue. Bone resorption and bone formation
usually take place in close order and remain balanced. An imbalance in the bone remodeling occurs in
aging in both genders. It can occur with other conditions. An imbalance can result in bone loss and
eventually osteoporosis and broken bones. Another medication would be anabolic drugs. Teriparatide,
a form of parathyroid hormone increases the rate of bone formation and is in a distinct category of
osteoporosis medicines called anabolic drugs. The goal of treatment with teriparatide is to build bone
and lower the risk of breaking bones. This is the only medicine for osteoporosis approved by the FDA
that rebuilds bone. There are also antiresorptive medicines. Biphoneates, calcitonin, denosumab,
estrogen and estrogen agonists/antagonists are an antiresorptive medicines. They slow the bone loss
that occurs in the breakdown part of the remodeling cycle. When people start taking these medications
they stop losing bone as quickly as before. They still make bone at the same pace as before. The bone
density may increase. The treatment goal is to prevent bone loss and lower the risk of breaking

The Canada Health Act
All health care in Canada is free for insured services, those provided through hospitals and physicians
(O Neill, 2008). With the enactment of the Canada Health Act, citizens may choose their own family
physician and do not have to pay premiums, deductibles, or co payments. Other services such as
prescription drugs or dental care must be paid for either out of pocket or through private insurances.
Because of this free care, O Neill (2008) argued that the demand for health care becomes unrestrained
causing costs to surge. This inexplicably triggered shortages in all provinces and explicit rationing had
to be implemented in Canada for certain medical treatments and technology (O Neill, 2008). The high
demand and severe shortages caused a large increase in private facilities providing core services.
Private Health Care
While the health care system in Canada covers basic services, including primary care physicians and
hospitals, some of Canada s provinces will provide additional services such as physiotherapy, dental
coverage, and prescription medicines (source). Though, if a citizen is a part of a province that does not
cover additional services or they require services that may not be covered like dental services,
optometrists, home care or prescription medications, they can seek out private health insurance plans
to help offset their medical expenses. These types of private plans can be purchased from private
insurance providers in order to supplement their

Trauma And Recovery By Judith Herman Essay
In Judith Herman s book, Trauma and Recovery, she discusses her research and work with trauma
survivors. In her book, she writes that, traumatic events are extraordinary, not because they occur
rarely, but rather because they overwhelm the ordinary human adaptations to life (Herman 24). She
explores the idea that trauma is as individual as it is common, with reactions and the journey to the
post traumatic self similar despite differences in events. In the case of Barbara Gordon, while the
event may vary, her physical and mental trauma can be compared to America s fear of its forfeiture of
power to terror and the loss of the towers after September 11, 2001. Trauma is about more than just
the physical ramifications; when the physical aspect is fixed, Barbara s legs and the building of the 1
World Trade Center, the mental and emotional trauma still remain.
Barbara was far from helpless prior to Alan Moore s The Killing Joke. She was first introduced as

Representation of Women in Poetry
How have the composers of the poems you will be discussing constructed their representations of

The representation of women have changed throughout the course of history. The Ruined Maid

where it shows many Barbie dolls all wearing short black dresses. The submissive nature of women is
portrayed in image 2 as it addresses the notion of women being items that can be used and changed
into what ever the society wants. The Barbie doll is a symbolism of the world of fantasy, many kids

liberals, after the tragic petition of Bloody Sunday. The Romanov s dynasty attempt at modernizing
Russia led to the cause of their usurping. The changes they applied during their reigns resulted in
protests and uprisings of the peasants. The emancipation edict of 1891 created a great number of
unemployed civilians; as population was increasing during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Threatened by the event Bloody Sunday, Tsar Nicholas II faced the choice of military dictatorship or
granting a new constitution. In the end, he determined to write a new constitution called the October
Manifesto. Issued and signed by the Tsar, he promised to guarantee civil liberties as his last venture to
continue his family s history of unlimited autocracy. When the document was signed, it rested the
anger most Russian civilians had for their Tsar. Although, the public was not pleased when it came to
their attention that the Duma could not initiate legislation and Tsar would continuously dissolve the
Dumas when they opposed him. One can see the contrast between the Tsar s doing and his peoples
needs, even after protests. In conclusion, the indifference brought upon the monarchy s abdication and
advanced in the outcome of the Bolshevik

Understanding Heart Failure
Understanding Heart Failure
Heart failure is a condition in which the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood through the
heart to meet the body s need for blood and oxygen. Coronary artery disease is a form of heart disease
that effects the chambers of the heart. There are four chambers in the heart. The upper chambers
consist of a right and a left atrium and the lower chamber consists of the right and left ventricles. The
flow of oxygen rich blood travels from the lungs to the left atrium and into the left ventricle where it is
pumped into the rest of the body. When the heart functions properly, all four chambers beat and pump

The Sui, Tang, And Song Dynasties Of China
The Sui, Tang, and Song Dynasties of China each offer numerous examples of how the past can
influence the future. Ideas that were new at the time have become common place in today s world.
And these Dynasties evolved to be very different from the ones that had come before.
Under the Sui dynasty, there were a number of significant changes. First, a new political system was
established the Three Departments and Six Ministries. The Departments Zhongshu Sheng, Menxia
Sheng, and Shangshu Sheng were similar to the US executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The
Ministries were under the authority of the Shangshu Sheng. Li4 Bu would be known as human
resources today. Hu Bu mainly handled the financial aspects and territorial resources. Li3 Bu dealt
with etiquette. Bing Bu would be comparable to the US military system. Xing Bu was the court and
law enforcement ministry. Gong Bu handled a variety of affairs, such as transportation, farmland
cultivation, and water conservation. (Sui Dynasty, Travel China, n.d.)
Second, a more peaceful and stable society spurred economic development. The agricultural acreage
increased greatly which promoted the crop yield. The skills industry made some new advances with
the shipbuilding technology reaching a new high level. Meanwhile, the commerce in Luoyang was
fairly prosperous and in order to develop the national economy, a series of policies, such as Juntian
(equal division of fields) System and Zutiao (tax moderation) System, were

Roman Senate
It was believed that the senate was founded by Romulus, the first king of the Roman Kingdom. It
consisted 100 patricians in its early period. Unlike its power in the republic, the senate did not have
more power than advising the King legislatively. But the senate still held tremendous prestiges since it
consisted of the wealthiest and the most powerful members of the society. SPQR, the abbreviation of
Senate and the people of Rome that shows the reputation of the senate, means the Roman society was
consisted of senators and non senators citizens. he most clear role that the senate played was the
advisory agency of the King, who held the absolute power of the Roman Kingdom. The King also

The Role Of Individualism In Ancient Greece
The rich imagination of the Greeks gave color, verve and texture to every facet of nature and aspect of
the world that they perceived. Their deep, open minded, philosophically rich and at the same time
sensuous and lively outlook on existence are noticeable. It is this that has given their culture it s
lasting quality. The growth of Greek life and art are a marvel of individualism, and at the same time
the ability to look at a problem from all angles. Thus we see that the Greeks were able to see all
aspects of the issues that they faced and alternate between modes like lyrical, romantic, and tragic.
Greek tragedy is one of its great achievements. Their sense of destiny fate and mythology which by
analogy illustrates many philosophical observations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a measure of their strength, shorn of all stage play and fog, they still shine in their human
qualities. There is a deep understanding of the basis of individuality and humanism in this. Insist on
yourself and show yourself unshorn, thus says the lover of truth or VERITAS in all things. The love of
beauty, of nature and of humanity, whole and pure in a higher sense, above all philosophical and
tolerant, shows from all their creations. Greek culture was amazingly holistic and absorptive, perhaps
a legacy of the wayfaring Phoenicians, of hardy seamen and explorers. The Greeks faced nature in all
its capriciousness, they did not hide or turn away but manfully, embraced nature and it s conundrums
all the same. They looked the stormy seas, inside and outside, full in the face and did not shrink from
life. Embrasure of life with open arms is the very symbol of the Greeks. A cosmopolitan, tolerant,
irreverent, heroic, individualistic, human, frail, weak, many sided, truthful, naturalistic, humanistic
phenomenon, which challenged the might of the Persian tyrant again and again to do its worst but
would not yield it s freedom of hard birth and growth. The phoenix rebirthing again and again could
be a fitting symbol of the Greek culture. The plumed Amazon warrioress, symbol of feminity, appears
again and again, not shying away from a trial of strength. Passionately full of life, wiles, loves and

The Candle Maker In The Middle Ages
The Candle Maker
In the middle ages if someone was a kid they would usually drink ale or wine. The peasants were the
lowest class including people such as the candle maker, which provided candles from royalty to
peasants. The job of a candle maker was very messy, and the daily life of one is just like any peasant s.
Even though the candle maker was a peasant they helped out with royalty in big ways. The Candle
Maker is important in the Middle Ages because they made the only possible light source back then.
The candle maker s job helped the rich and poor. Since, some peasants couldn t afford beeswax
candles they bought tallow candles which were made out of animal fat. The animal fat burned faster
than the beeswax candles, and had a smokier flame than beeswax candles. Which is why the tallow
candles were cheaper. Rich people usually bought beeswax candles because they lasted longer and
were nicer than the tallow candles. Also, tallow candles gave off a foul stench. The daily life of a
candle maker was like a peasants. The houses were not very sanitary and nice. They had dirt floors
and used mud the way we use cement today. The food was bland and plain. They usually had small
gardens that had little vegetables in them. Also, they couldn t have livestock unless they had enough
money which very few peasants had. Clothing was plain with little pattern. ... Show more content on

Sometimes, people s culture affected their social standing, because the catholic church was at the

Method
Protection of participants rights
 Were appropriate procedures used to safeguard the rights of study participants? Was the study
subject to external review by an IRB/ethics review board?
 Was the study designed to minimize risks and maximize benefits to participants? This is a small
scale study done in preparation for a major study so an IRB/ethics review board was not consulted.
The consent provisions were followed with all study participants. The tests were administered then
participants took information home to read and look over for a test retest in two weeks.
Research design
 Was the most rigorous possible design used, given the purpose of the research?
 Were appropriate comparisons made to enhance interpretability of the findings?
 Was the number of data collection points appropriate?
 Did the design minimize biases and threats to the internal, construct, and external validity of the
study (e.g., was blinding used, was attrition minimized)?
External validity of the small sampling cause concerns for generalizability of results. As mentioned in
the Discussion section of the research, 106 and 130 participants per groups would be an appropriate
sample size. The most rigorous possible design was not used in this research. One weakness is
utilizing the 1953 and 1969 evaluation tools to compare and contrast to the year 2013. Content validity
was used when a six member panel of experts evaluated the pamphlets to

The Presence Of Reconciliation Between Victims And...
The Presence of Reconciliation Through Violent Acts Throughout the course of human history,
violence has been a reoccurring theme in the conquest for power in countries across the planet.
Understanding the ideology behind some of this violence have puzzled historians and psychologists
for centuries; furthermore, the presence of reconciliation between the victims and perpetrators after
some of these horrific acts of terror is even more astonishing. This form of reconciliation was a
significant factor during South Africa s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) formed in 1996.
After close analysis, I have been able to identify the difference between the similar terms of
reconciliation and forgiveness, understand the evaluation process ... Show more content on

Negotiated forgiveness consists of the perpetrator and the victim to confront one another and discuss
the motives and understand the perpetrator s intentions. With the dialogue between the two opposing
parties, reconciliation can finally emerge. Kraft states the need for negotiated forgiveness, In the
context of truth commissions, unilateral forgiveness is forgiveness, and negotiated forgiveness is
reconciliation. During truth commissions, forgiveness appears as an internal disengagement from the
perpetrator, independent of the actions of the perpetrator. In contrast, reconciliation is a dialectical
process of acceptance, involving direct interactions between perpetrators and victims, (Kraft 115).
This is why reconciliation is extremely important, to resolve reconciliation is essential in promoting
peace. With a strong understanding of the contrast between forgiveness and reconciliation, one can
intensely evaluate the process of reconciliation during the events of the TRC. In the amnesty process
in the TRC, as previously stated to reach reconciliation, the perpetrators were to confront the
committee and the victims and discuss, in detail, their crimes. In a strange way, these testimonies,
humanized, the perpetrators, For those who watched the amnesty proceedings and for those who
participated, the testimony humanized and particularized the perpetrator. As perpetrators gave
testimony, they divulged

She is a medical doctors that sees many patients between the Boston area and a South African province in which 1 and 5 people are infected with the a virus that causes aids. She discuses the microscopic realm of the virus and virus infected cells to AIDS therapies. Dr. Ojiktu treats people with HIV and other infectious diseases. She enjoys linking what is happening here and overseas. She also works on a team to develop programs and do research concerning aids. In 1980 a strange new disease was growing, starting in Los Angeles. This disease presented vague symptoms such as weight loss, lack of energy, diarrhea, fevers and sweats, rashes, and swollen lymph nodes. These symptoms could be caused by any viral infectious. The unique thing is that these systems were chronic, progressive, and debilitating. Some patients presented very bad shortness of breath and a bad cough. With this they found that the patients had a rare fungal infection called Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP). There were also some cases concerning these symptoms in New York City. These cases are rare so the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noticed a spike in the drug Pentamidine (a drug used to treat PCP, typically used on cancer patients). • 4. Defects Of Nuclear Weapons Isolde Fang Current issue Benefits and defects of nuclear weapons The use of nuclear weapons is a heated topic today, catching more attention from both the public and governments than before. While many countries favor nuclear weapons for safety and international reasons, nuclear weapons do have defects in moral, environmental, and economic aspects. For counties that favor nuclear weapons, they favor them because of the benefits brought by them in guaranteeing national safety and boosting international status. Nuclear weapons can protect a country physically, like a physical protection of national territory, just as Sico van der Meer writes in his article States Motivations to Acquire or Forgo Nuclear Weapons that nuclear weapons are considered to be the ultimate tool for survival. (2016) This citation shows that nuclear weapons are so powerful that they can be used as the ultimate tool of survival. Due to their power, they can protect a country s territory from external aggression by deterring other countries. Japan is a good example of this kind of country. There are many possible reactions Japan can made after the threat from North Korea of nuclear attack of U.S. bases in Japan. Some assert that protecting Japan itself by developing nuclear weapons is a good way (Corr, 2017). By developing nuclear weapons, Japan can deter North Korea from actual nuclear attack and protect itself from warfare. Free of intrusion and warfare is what always pursued by all ... • 5. 1984 Comparison Essay George Orwell s 1984 is a great allegory about life under communist rule. Throughout the book there are many concepts that directly relate to the rule of Josef Stalin in the U.S.S.R. The first evidence can be seen in the posters of Big Brother that are posted everywhere around London. These posters are described as having the face of a man of about forty five, with a heavy black mustache and ruggedly handsome features . (1) Similarly, most if not all of the Stalin era propaganda posters featured an image of Stalin which resembles the description of Big Brother. The resemblance of Big Brother to Stalin is not the only reference to communism in 1984. Another connection that could be made between communism and Oceanic society is economic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... there is also the control of the media. Similar to how the Party controlled every medium in Oceania; Stalin s communist party controlled every medium in the U.S.S.R. during its reign and any sort of political unorthodoxy was forbidden.(lib) In both instances nothing that cast either Big Brother or Stalin in a negative light was allowed. Consequently, both Stalin and Big Brother developed a cult of personality . This meant that since everything about them was portrayed in a positive light they were idolized by the people in their nation. This is evidenced in 1984 by the passage about how Big Brother is to be seen in Goldstein s book, Big Brother is infallible and all powerful. Every success, every achievement, every victory, every scientific discovery, all knowledge, all wisdom, all happiness, all virtue, are held to issue directly from his leadership and inspiration. (121) This is why the term Big Brother was used in 1984 he was the savior of the people, their protector. A real life parallel to this is that Stalin was commonly referred to as Uncle Joe. The effect of the media control turned them both into objects of adulation that could do no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through access to other firm proprietary resources, the concerned SMEs are likely to create synergistic effect imperative to gain competitive advantages that would facilitate improved market and financial performance. Highlighting the benefits of cooperation, several studies indicated SMEs partners can gain access to new technology, gain tacit knowledge, create economies of scale, save costs and achieve flexibility and quality improvement. Ability refers to the skills, competencies, and characteristics of trustee; benevolence is the extent to which a trustee is believed to do good to the trustor; and integrity is the consistency of the trustee s past actions and credible communication. • 7. The Causes of Crime. What are the causes of crime essay For centuries, the one plague that human civilization faces is a disease that has no evident cure crime. Before one can even try to find solutions for it, one must understand what a crime is and the nature of crime. Crime itself is defined as any offence harmful against society. The nature of crime however deals with the motives and causes of crime, which has no one clear cut explanation. There are several different theories on the cause of crime such as heredity, gender and mental defects, but each one is not substantial enough to explain crime and why it takes place. The theory on heredity as being the source of crime is based on the idea that criminal activity is predisposed by human genes. Gender being the root of crime suggests that ... What is more significant is that this capacity cannot be learned or taught or put into a person after that age with any known method of treatment. This capacity to be affected by how others feel is developed most strongly when infants and toddlers are empathically cared for by the same few people all the time people who are willing and able to meet the child s emotional needs. During the early stages of childhood, the most important part of development takes place. If there is a significant lack of attention and interaction during this time, the child may end up being drawn away from society and isolated. Sometimes it is the parents fault for not being able to raise socially competent children and other times it is institutions such as public schools. Certain children need that extra help or support that may not be provided at school. These children then end up turning to crime such as theft or drug dealing in order to compensate. Their life lesson is in the streets not in the homes or schools. Also, this idea of social norms put such an emphasis on acceptance that children who do not fit in become alienated. A healthy life needs some acceptance from friends and family, but if a child experiences a lack of it, the results could be tragic. Take for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Antigone, Star Wars, and the Good Life Sophocles s play Antigone promotes a good life that, through careful analysis, is very similar to the Stoic theory of the good life. Antigone is a story about the members of the ancient Theban aristocracy vying for control of themselves and others; however, in its core it contains an exploration of the good life, that is trying to investigate what values will allow one to get what they want out of life. A group of philosophers, also of Greek origin, produced a theory of this topic; this group of thinkers is called the Stoics. Concerning the good life they had two main values, from which they believe a good life can originate. The first of the two is finding happiness from inner resources, or trying not to depend on things around you such as wealth or adventure to give you a sense of happiness. The second facet is that of not worrying about things that are out of your control, as there is no use. Antigone brings to stage these topics, and shows characters who either live according to them, and exit with a good life, and others who deny these, and end the play living in a bad life. Therefore the play shows through example, that Stoic values will lead to a positive way of living, and living against the values will lead to you not getting everything out of life. The two main characters in this tragedy are Creon, the king of Thebes, and uncle of the other character Antigone, the daughter of the last king of the same city Thebes. Creon does not live according to the values of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Why Organisations Need to Change Why organisations need to change Change management is relevant as though the research finds that change is taking place at an ever increasing pace, the evidence suggests that most change initiatives fail. For example, recent CIPD research suggested that less than 60% of re organisations met their stated objectives which are usually bottom line improvement. This is consistent with other published research. The impact of failures to introduce effective change can also be high: loss of market position, removal of senior management, loss of stakeholder credibility, loss of key employees. Finally, one organisational response to change is that organisational forms are themselves evolving. Therefore, the change management response will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Management need to be aware of these different criteria to ensure they respond appropriately. Suggested reasons for resistance include: loss of control, shock of new, uncertainty, inconvenience, threat to status, competence fears. It is important to try to diagnose the cause of employee resistance as this will help determine the focus of effort in trying to reduce/remove the issue. What can be done to make change management more effective? From the issues raised in the section above, it can be seen that change is complex and there is not a single solution. However, a number of key areas of focus emerge. Effective leadership is a key enabler as it provides the vision and the rationale for change. Different styles of leadership have been identified, for example coercive, directive, consultative and collaborative. These different styles may each be appropriate depending on the type and scale of change being undertaken. For example, when there is a large scale organisation wide change a directive style has been identified as most effective. Appropriate and timely training is frequently identified as key to effective change. Examples of training requirements might include: * Project and programme management skills to ensure change initiatives are completed both on time and to budget. * ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Related To The Golden Ratio This short report and presentation related to the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio has interested mathematicians for a long time. The Golden Ratio is a special number that is defined mathematically from which produces 1.618033989..., commonly used as the approximation 1.618. There is interesting fact that digits just keep on going to infinity, with no pattern. Mathematically, the Golden Ratio is tends to be an irrational number. Two numbers tend to be golden if the ratio of their sum to the bigger number is equal as the larger to the smaller number. In other words, this relationship could be expressed with the following equation: In the case of a rectangle, if k is the length of the longer sides, whereas m is the length of the shorter sides, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historically, this number can be found in the architecture of many ancient buildings such as the Parthenon and the Great Pyramids. Some investigations of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon, established that majority of its proportions mostly are close to the golden ratio. It could be concluded that architects knew the golden ratio, that is why classical buildings and their elements are proportioned according to the golden ratio. The design of the Parthenon was created according to the Golden ratio, as illustrated in the picture 1. Another famous example of usage the Golden ratio in architecture is the Acropolis of Athens. The dimensions of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is approximately 4,600 years old, are also based on the Golden Ratio. When it comes to art, there are several illustrations, which can prove that the Golden ratio is used in the arts as well. For instance, Leonardo da Vinci s paintings in De Divina Proportione (On the Divine Proportion) and Mona Lisa employ the Golden ratio in their geometric equivalents. Also Mondrian used the Golden number in his masterpiece as well as Salvador Dali in his The Sacrament of the Last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Professional athletes are making too much money in a society that salaries and wages are typically based on the value of ones work. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is remarkable how an athlete is paid millions of dollars to appear for a few hours for an advertising campaign, while a surgeon who must perform a life affecting procedure for a few hours is paid a small fraction of what an athlete earns. When considering team sports, it can be linked that higher payroll teams win more games and win more championship. But, there should be a limit or salary cap in all professional team sports. This creates greater competition between teams and more excitement for the fans. If a league did not have a salary cap, only teams that have a history of winning games and championships are able to pay top dollars for the best players. This makes it very difficult for younger teams to succeed, or for new teams to enter the league. A prime example of a professional sport without a salary cap is Major League Baseball. The New York Yankees had the highest payroll in 2007 of $218.3 million, while the World Series champion Boston Red Sox was a distant second at $155.4 million. Not only having the highest payroll, the Yankees had the highest revenue in the majors of $415 million last year. By looking at the other end of the payroll column, one can link the payroll of the team to its success in the league. • 15. Congenital Disorders With Intellectual Disability Chapter Five 5. Discussion Congenital disorders with intellectual disability (ID) constitute a particularly significant medical problem because of the high prevalence and life long care that patients will need. The extreme genetic heterogeneity of ID is a major problem for pre and postnatal diagnosis. In some cases, however, early detection of a mutation may be important to prevent the manifestation of the handicap (Avbelj et al. 2007). Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is one of the most frequent causes of preventable ID, which can be averted by administering thyroid hormone in early postnatal life. This is achieved by newborn screening detection. Congenital hypothyroidism fulfills most of the criteria for disease screening as set out by Wilson and Jungner (Wilson and Jungner 1968), in fact CH is four to five times more common than Phenylketonuria for which newborn screening was initially developed (Chiesa, Rivolta, Targovnik, Gruneiro Papendieck 2010). Detection of CH by neonatal screening has been a major achievement because early diagnosis and treatment result in normal development in nearly all cases. An additional benefit of neonatal screening has been the elucidation of the incidence of CH as well as the prevalence of its various causes. The incidence rate of CH is approximately 1 of 3000/4000 new births worldwide (Calaciura, Miscio, Coco, Leonardi, Cisternino, Regalbuto, Bozzali, Maiorana, Ranieri, Carta, Buscema, Trischitta, Sava, Tassi 2002). When one finally finds the love they have been looking for, one can not imagine life with anybody else. Romantic love is a connection between two souls that is captured with a feeling that is not only felt within the heart but within their body as well. I have never been in love with a girl; I can only imagine what it might be like to be in love. We see a split and think that a person is just bad, whereas the Navajo and Hopi cultures have views that are less severe to the individual in question. The Navajo believe that what distinguishes good from evil is control, because acts can be both good and evil. When something has little ability to be controlled by man, the situation has a higher likelihood of being evil. Additionally, the Navajo don t see evil as being a kind of negative moral corruption or an ethical problem. The photo depicts the back of a young woman s leg with her skirt hem slightly lifted. Horizontal markings on the subject s leg are reminiscent of those on a measuring cup or ruler. The markings on the woman s leg are meant to be length markings, specifically the length of a woman s garment hem. In his piece Testaments Betrayed, Czech writer Milan Kundera asserts that the curtain between public and private lives is not to be removed, and those who do so are deplorable voyeurs. Although it is immoral for one to reveal another s private life, the barrier between public and private lives must be torn down when the public benefits, whether by the intruder or the individual in question himself. His last words, I can t breathe, were captured on video and shared millions of times while he was fading in and out of consciousness. While the bystander capturing the video may have intruded into his privacy, that moment was a necessary mingling of public and private because it personified the outrage present in society. In doing so, the bystanders demonstrated to a broad audience the injustice present in society. The dual nature of an individual s public and private personas also exactly demonstrates the necessity in breaching personal privacy, for individuals may have a different personal agenda than the public façade they create. • 22. Immigration And Immigration Movement The history of immigration and emigration in the United States is closely linked to the history of railroads. Immigrants were not only integral to the construction of the transcontinental railroads that facilitated western expansion, but they also used the railroad to migrate west and to form new immigrant settlements in western states and territories. In the early 19 century, United States expanded westward, across the Mississippi River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. The settlers were motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the expedition (1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France in 1803. Their mission was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the land s resources, make diplomatic contact with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a route to the Pacific Ocean. The masquerade takes place in the sixth month of isolation in the abbey; the sixth apartment is where the Prince finally confronts Red Death and eventually dies, falling in to the seventh apartment. An author needs opinions on life in order to make a realistic writing. From what can be gathered from Tim O Brien is that he believes there are no morals. With each story that he tells he has Mitchell Sanders giving concise summaries of why what happened happened and these morals don t explain the story whatsoever. The Candle Maker is important in the Middle Ages because they made the only possible light source back then. The candle maker s job helped the rich and poor. Since, some peasants couldn t afford beeswax candles they bought tallow candles which were made out of animal fat. The animal fat burned faster than the beeswax candles, and had a smokier flame than beeswax candles. Which is why the tallow candles were cheaper. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Negotiated forgiveness consists of the perpetrator and the victim to confront one another and discuss the motives and understand the perpetrator s intentions. With the dialogue between the two opposing parties, reconciliation can finally emerge. Kraft states the need for negotiated forgiveness, In the context of truth commissions, unilateral forgiveness is forgiveness, and negotiated forgiveness is reconciliation. During truth commissions, forgiveness appears as an internal disengagement from the perpetrator, independent of the actions of the perpetrator. In contrast, reconciliation is a dialectical process of acceptance, involving direct interactions between perpetrators and victims, (Kraft 115). This is why reconciliation is extremely important, to resolve reconciliation is essential in promoting peace. With a strong understanding of the contrast between forgiveness and reconciliation, one can intensely evaluate the process of reconciliation during the events of the TRC.
