Schizophrenia Stigmas, Causes and Brain Activity...
Schizophrenia Stigmas, Causes and Brain Activity Differences
Contrary to popular belief, Schizophrenia is not a mental health disorder but a psychotic based
disorder, in which those affected often experience psychosis. Those experiencing psychosis are known
to lose touch with reality; this loss often results in delusions and/or hallucinations. This leads one to
ask: what are the social stigmas, plausible causes and brain activity differences related to
schizophrenia?
Background
Schizophrenia is broken down into 4 subtypes: Paranoid type, Disorganized type, Undifferentiated
type, and Residual type (Goldberg, 2013). Paranoid type Schizophrenia is the most well known type,
and is often seen as the stereotypical view of Schizophrenia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Psychiatrist D. Fuller Torrey, M.D., states Schizophrenia is the modern day equivalent of leprosy (qtd:
in Tartakovsky, 2014). There are harsh stereotypes surrounding those affected such as a higher level of
danger, universal symptoms, predetermined traits, a need for hospitalization, and even, put simply by
Demian Rose, M.D., Ph. D., a belief Schizophrenics are either psychotics or not. (Tartakovsky, 2014).
These stigmas lead to extremely detrimental effects such as, more homeless sufferers, less job
opportunities, a lower quality of life, lower self esteem, higher stress levels, and more symptoms
(Corrigan, 1998). Like most problems, these stigmas could be corrected with a fairly basic
understanding of Schizophrenia and how it affects its sufferers.
The most common of these stigmas is the higher level of danger. According to professor Dawn I.
Velligan, many people believe those affected by Schizophrenia are more dangerous than the general
public because of their disorder; however, schizophrenics usually tend to be the victims of violence
rather than the perpetrators (Tartakovsky, 2014). In addition, when treated or medicated,
schizophrenics are no more dangerous than the general population. Along these same lines, many
believe schizophrenics experience the same symptoms (Tartakovsky, 2014). There are

Use Of Imagery In All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich...
Imagery is often used to allow the reader to develop a fuller understanding of the plot, characters, and
setting. In Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, he uses imagery to help the reader
understand the experience of war. Imagery allows the reader to comprehend Paul s thoughts and to
relate with the other characters. It makes the war realistic and provides a deeper understanding of the
war because it affects all of the senses. Remarque uses imagery to emphasize the themes of war and to
demonstrate the contrasts of war during battles and in the meantime. In the novel, imagery is used to
show the reader how tedious life in the trenches can be, but even though it may be torture to the
soldiers, they spend their time together to make the period between the battles less exasperating. When
the Paul and his comrades are waiting after one of the battles, he begins to describe how they kill lice
because it gives them entertainment when he says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diction in the passage exhibits the dying soldier s fear through the dramatic word choice.
Remarque continues to emphasize the fear in the scene through the use of hyperboles and
personification. The soldier s fear is exaggerated because it is powerful enough to move Paul. Since
the soldier is frightened, it magnifies Paul s fear because he is displaced and is unsure how to return to
his trench. After the gurgling ceases, the tone becomes less tense because it is clear that the man is
dying and would not be a threat. Paul realizes that he is the part of the cause of the suffering and feels
guilty. The image creates tension in the mood and fully conveys Paul s concern and anxiety while he
sees this dying man. Yet, Paul still feels a need to help the man because he notices that the man s eyes
are communicating that he wants to live. Remarque s description of the man s helpless plea
emphasizes the horrors of war and the fear of

A Taxonomy For Evaluating Business Data Visualizations
A Taxonomy for Evaluating Business Data Visualizations
Submission Type: Emergent Research Forum Papers
Introduction
We are creating data in enormous quantities primarily because of improvements in data capture
technologies. But much of this data are underused or never being used. A detailed analysis of this
underused data is often impractical due to time, personnel, and other resource constraints. Data
visualization techniques offer a good means of taking an immediate look at this data for exploring the
underlying relationships then analyzing relationships and finally understanding the knowledge
embedded in the data. While there is an increased interest in Business and Data Analytics and related
areas, it appears that efforts to evaluate their contributions are lacking. The need for developing an
unified framework for evaluating the data visualizations is of paramount importance. A special issues
just devoted to this topic of evaluating visualizations exploring its complexities (Bertini, E., Lam, H.,
Perer A., 2011) highlights its importance further.
The present study builds on these attempts to consider the contribution of various visualization
technologies by applying the ideas already presented established frameworks. To present our case, we
first define business data visualization and then justify Bloom s Taxonomy as a possible approach to
think of the contributions business data visualization projects and finally show example of how to
apply our proposed

Research Paper On American Realism
American Realism ; American Realism was a style of art in the 19th and 20th century. It overviewed
art, music, poetry, etc. It was a tyle of being totally realistic due to many things are able to happen to
everyday people. Some of the most important people in american realism was Ralph Waldo Emerson
that viewed the prospects of love and life. Also Henry.J, William D.H , Mark T were realists that
showed the overview or the life of a daily basis. Naturalists are people that practice the natural aspects
in life and in nature. The stories in the units that charactarize this the best is the story about the white
heroin. The man came from somewhere really far to find the white heroin and look at its beauty just to
keep it in a cage. The girl didnt want to tell the man about the heroin due to it being a beautiful bird.

One Blind Man To Another In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Cathedral: One Blind Man to Another
In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the reader is given a glimpse into the precarious relationship between
the narrator and his wife. The narrator shares his heavily critical point of view on the forthcoming visit
from his wife s old friend whom he calls the blind man later known as Robert . Specifically, Carver
uses first person narrative to put the reader in the mindset of the speaker who although keeps
information hidden about himself, eventually exposes a substantial amount of character through his
commentary. Slowly but surely he divulges his tremendously insecure, stubborn, and immature nature
when it comes to matters of exhibiting empathy for others and most importantly obtaining the
emotional depth for it. The narrator seems to have formed a bias against Robert based off of his
knowledge of him through his wife s stories of her time with him. Beginning the passage, he expresses
his disdain for the blind man visiting him and his wife saying he isn t enthusiastic about his visit and
his being blind bothered [him] to the point of outright stating that it was not something [he] looked
forward to (p.209). Maintaining the feeling of an obvious dislike towards Robert, he goes to explain
how Robert touched his wife s face, even her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

enlightenment gives hope to the readers in that it s never too late to transform your perspective on the

Neanderthal Evolution
The Neanderthal roamed the lands of Europe for tens of thousands of years. But about 30,000 years
ago, they became extinct, vanishing from the earth. (Homo Sapiens Versus Neanderthals). Only
15,000 years before, our ancestor Homo Sapien had expanded from Africa into Europe and Asia.
(Humans Vs. Neanderthals: How Did We Win? : DNews.) There are many different theories on what
happened to Neanderthal, and how their interaction with Homo Sapien changed the Neanderthal
world. The Homo Sapiens were more advanced and adaptable, and they could use the resources better
than the Neanderthal. The Neanderthal also interbred with Homo Sapien who outnumbered them ten
to one. (Humans Vs. Neanderthals: How Did We Win? : DNews.)But eventually the Neanderthal ...

The Neanderthal lived isolated until about 45,000 years ago they were confronted with a new species,
Homo Sapien. (Human Evolution by The Smithsonian Institution s Human Origins Program.) Before
Homo Sapien arrived, the Neanderthal had been living off the land around them, and now Homo
Sapien was also using their resources. The Homo Sapien were more adaptable and more advanced
than the Neanderthal so they could better use the land. For example, the Homo Sapiens often lived on
hilltops or in higher places where they could look out over valley which would have allowed the
Homo Sapien to watch herd movement and plan hunting strategy. (Human Evolution by The
Smithsonian Institution s Human Origins Program) The Neanderthal lived in lower places and in
caves. Because of the Homo Sapien s advancement there wasn t as many resources left available to the
Neanderthal, so they either would have to move or adapt to the new ways. The Homo Sapien also had
more advanced tools like bone needles and knives, and an overall, more efficient way of living than
the Neanderthal.
The Neanderthal were also built much differently from Homo Sapien. The Neanderthal were much
stronger than the Homo Sapien, but the Homo Sapien were built for long distance running while the
Neanderthal who was shorter couldn t run as far. (Humans Vs. Neanderthals: How Did We Win) The
Homo Sapiens were much better adapted for hunting in a warmer climate, and Europe was getting
warmer. This was yet another advantage that the Homo Sapien had over the

Bog Bodies
This book informs the reader about bog bodies and how crucial they are to scientists because they re a
journey to the past. Bog bodies are bodies that were deposited in a bog shortly after death, they were
then naturally preserved in the bog. To clarify why they re so important, bog bodies are usually so well
preserved that their skin, intestines and other parts of their body remain. Scientists study them and
they are able to find when they died, using radiocarbon analysis, and how they died which is only
possible it s not a skeleton because certain wounds can only be seen on skin and not on bones. There
was a section in that text that impacted me, it was: With new tests and procedure, with determination
and perhaps some luck, scientists may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists look at only a few apparatus to discover additional information about the past, they analyze
fossils, artifacts, preserved bodies, and ancient architecture. With bog bodies gone, that leaves a
miniscule amount of items to study. Artifacts or items belonging to ancient people don t provide
tremendous amounts of information. Additionally, fossils belong to a whole other category, animals
and plants from prehistoric times. Consequently, this doesn t provide information about primitive
culture and don t assist scientists seeking data on primeval civilization. Furthermore, bog bodies are
probably the most complex sources of enlightenment because they can provide clothing, weapons, and
materials of specific eras, as well as informing us about their actions. For instance, of scientists
suspected the person was sacrificed we can conclude that whatever civilization they were from
practiced human sacrifice. In all honesty, bog bodies would be a grand loss because they re far more
intriguing than other artifacts. Considering this, bog bodies supply insight about someone s life and it
simulates reading an autobiography because you find out multitudes of information about the person,
even if they re dead. Another bog body they studied was the Yde Girl, she was found in 1987 in the
Netherlands but she had died 2,000 years earlier. While they were studying her remains, they found at
she had scoliosis, which impairs how you walk because it s a mild spinal curvature. The toes of her
right foot also signified that she might ve been slightly pigeon toed. Scientists also noticed that she
was stabbed and strangled with her on belt, which was left on her neck after death. Perhaps she was
considered undesirable in her society because of her flaws and killed because of this. However, there
are several other ways she could ve died, it could ve been a sacrificial

Yearning for Peace in Hemingway s A Clean, Well-Lighted...
Yearning for Peace in Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place
While Hemingway s short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place is usually interpreted as an intensely
poetic description of despair, it can with equal validity be seen instead as mankind s never ending
yearning to find spiritual peace. Hemingway s short story displayed this emotional journey in many
different ways. First, the title itself is a symbol for man s desire to find a state of tranquillity, safety,
and comfort. Hemingway also showed this in the story s setting, which was used as a symbol for a
sense of order, for it was late, the cafe was empty, and the men there were at ease. Finally, Hemingway
showed this desire in the contrasting actions between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here he was showing that in one s lowest level of despair, man s one and only desire is to find a safe
haven, and to acquire a sense of security.
Finding a sense of security and meaning to life was very important to Hemingway who was known to
feel that the individual quest for meaningful values was a universal one, probably because Hemingway
himself struggled to find the true meaning of his life, or the true sense of his purpose.
The despair that Hemingway himself felt is best shown in A Clean, Well Lighted Place when the older
waiter was intertwined in a conversation with himself. He said that: It was all a nothing and a man was
nothing too. It was only that and light was all it needed and a certain cleanness and order. Some lived
in it and never felt it but he knew it was nada y pues nada y nada y pues nada (383).
Nothing and then nothing. When one is in a state of despair, the only thing that one is looking for is a
way out of one s situation, or a road that will lead to a peaceful end to one s feelings of hopelessness.
Hemingway, however, presented a remarkable example of man s search for an end to his state of
hopelessness. When one waiter commented on the deaf man s attempt at taking his own life, he said
Last week he tried to commit suicide. The other waiter replied Why? Then he said, He was in despair
(379). This summed up man s desire, at his lowest level of depression, to find peace,

Sexually Transmitted Disease Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement: Today s society enables and encourages teenagers to engage in sexual activity and
because of this; teens are putting themselves at risk for life changing problems that can be avoided by
remaining sexually inactive. Sexually transmitted diseases, or STD s, are something that everyone is
aware of, but few pay adequate attention to. Teenagers that are having sex far too early are finding out
what STD s are firsthand. Sexually transmitted diseases are becoming more and more common in
teens. The rates are becoming so high that it is alarming. Many teen do not realize the risk that they
are putting themselves at by having sex whether it is with one partner or multiple partners (Immell).

If a teen contracts an STD, they will have to make multiple changes in their life if what disease they
get does not leave them bed ridden in a hospital. The hardest thing for teenagers to understand is that
if they end up contracting an STD, not only are their parents going to be disappointed, but they will
most likely have social problems in school or in public in general. Most teenagers would not
necessarily want to be friends with someone who has an STD because they would be afraid to
somehow get it too. A teen that ended up with an STD would most likely lose a lot in not all of their
friends. An STD is just a giant social burden. Just under half of the teens in the U.S. do not see
themselves at risk for contracting an STD (Henry J. Kaiser...). According to the Henry J. Kaiser
Family Foundation, four million teens get an STD every year in the U.S. This means that four millions
teens have their social lives destroyed each year. According to John D. Hartigan in his article
Distributing Condoms in Schools Encourages Teen Sex, he states that condoms are being distributed
in schools. This basically enables and encourages teenagers to have sex; it is like telling them that it is
okay when it really is not. Hartigan also states that teens are not responsible enough to use condoms
correctly. Some teens do not know how to use or cannot obtain a condom so they decide not to use one

The Two Methods Of Surface Mining And Underground Mining
Introduction
Mining is what people use to extract minerals and ores, there are two methods that you can use that is
surface mining and underground mining.
What is underground mining/surface mining?
Underground mining is what people use to extract hard minerals from underground some of those are
Gold, Copper, Iron, Metal and Zinc, and many more minerals found underground. The two methods
used for underground mining is cut and fill and room and pillar. Cut and fill is when the material
extracted from underground is then used to fill another space. Room and pillar is when the ore is
extracted in a horizontal line. There are two phases to extracting a mineral using the room and pillar
method. Surface mining is when you find minerals either above the surface or on the surface in soil
etc. The two most popular ways to do surface mining is open pit mining and strip mining. Open pit
mining is when you extract rocks from the earth s surface in open pits, the minerals found using open
pit mining are Ores, copper and aluminium. Strip mining is when you get rid of soil and rocks above a
layer of coal normally and you then extract the mineral, coal is the only mineral normally extracted
using the strip mining method. Mining can be very dangerous and have been many accidents in the
past, if you are mining you are told to wear a helmet, gloves, protective shoes, padding and eye
protection.

My Experience At A University Level
This course has become a journey for me. It has been one of my first classes at a university level. I
have learned many valuable skills and lessons. I know they will be of great use to me in my further
years at college, and in life. First, I learned that if I follow instructions and meet the criteria that is
expected of me I can do very well. Secondly, I had the opportunity to learn how to develop a resume
for college and work use. Having a resume that is up to standards and knowing what I need to modify,
in the years to come, is extremely helpful when I am trying to obtain an occupation. Additionally, I
also obtained the knowledge and skills on how to conduct research. Learning how to use the OSU
library website to be able to find academic databases has been extremely helpful. I have learned how
to access the databases and be able to search and obtain what I need. Even though, my other classes
have not required me to conduct research, I may have to conduct research in the years to come.
Knowing how to navigate the website and conduct my research will make it easier. I am very pleased
with myself that I chose to do the extra credit that was offered. I knew that many professors did not
offer the opportunity to gain extra credit. When I heard how many opportunities and points that I
could potentially obtained I knew I had to try. Which, I am glad I did. The extra credit helped
tremendously. Seeing the results reflect on my grade made me realize that I was on the right track.

Solomon Northup s Twelve Years A Slave
Solomon Northup s Twelve Years a Slave Twelve Years a Slave was written by Solomon Northup. The
book provides the reader a deeper understanding of the hardest periods in American history slavery.
When reading Twelve Years a Slave, people can have a better understanding of how slaves were
treated back in the 1800s. Northup discussed in details how slaves were mistreated and cruelly beaten
by their masters. Masters were heartless; they would beat their slaves till they were close to take their
last breath. Many people feel grateful that they were not born during the 1800s. Northup showed
different aspects of slavery. He deliberated his days from a free man, to held captive, serving as a
slave for three different masters in the south, to gaining his freedom again after twelve years. The first
two chapters of Twelve Years a Slave, the author, Solomon Northup, informed the reader about his life
as a free man. He was born a free African American in July 1808 in Minerva, New York. He was the
son of an originally enslaved father to the Northup family; this is where Solomon received his last
name. However, his father was freed after the Northup family moved to New York. While growing up,
Solomon helped his father with the farm duties. Also, he had a degree of proficiency in reading and
writing. At age twenty one in 1829 on a Christmas Day, he married a colored woman of black, white,
and Native American named Anne Hampton. Both were the parents of three children Elizabeth,

encouragement from positive role models who are educated. Fantuzzo, LeBoeuf, Rouse Chen (2012)

took place within a large urban public school district similar to ours and examined risks believed

M. Rivlin s Efforts Establishing The Congressional Budget...
This paper will discuss Alice M. Rivlin s efforts establishing the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
It will detail the major players, including Rivlin and explain what CBO s sources of power. This paper
will also discuss what stance Rivlin should take regarding political patronage and how she should
manage the situation. Finally, this paper will address which organizational structure she should adopt
for CBO using the framework of five determinants of organizational structure.
The Congressional Budget Act of 1974 established the Congressional Budget Office and on April 24,
1974 sworn in its first director, Alice M. Rivlin. CBO was established to make Congress a major
player in the budget process. Originally Congress was pressed to ... Show more content on

Some major power players in Rivlin s appointment and confirmation on the House side were
Chairman Al Ullman and then Rep. Brock Adams. On the Senate side, Chairman of the Senate Budget
Committee, who recommended Rivlin, Edmund Muskie was a major influence in her appointment.
One of the first things Rivlin did was bringing on Robert Reischauer, a fellow economist from the
Brookings Institute, as her right hand man at CBO. She also reviewed the Budget Act, which specified
what CBO was charged, which was relatively short. Therefore CBO had considerable freedom under
the legislation since both the Senate and House had no clue what they wanted from their new budget
shop. This provided Rivlin an enormous opportunity to look at other models of how to structure CBO.
She could model CBO after other sister agencies like the General Accounting Office (GAO),
Congressional Research Service (CRS), the former Office of Technology Assessment (OTA), Office of
Management and Budget (OMB), or the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation Staff. Some
suggestions were to organize CBO along functional lines with policy areas like defense or human
resources in separate divisions each containing a numbers and analysis subdivision. Another
suggestion was to spread the numbers function all around to enable program divisions with a focus on
customer relations. But Rivlin also had to be aware of political patronage. Both Congressmen and

Feudalism And Feudal States From Europe After The Breakup...
Name: Jessica Anne Knupp
Date: 10/04/2014
Class: HS111 World CIV
How did feudalism and feudal states come to be formed in Europe after the breakup of the Carolingian
empire?
Feudalism is the word used to describe a complex set of relationships which appeared following the
reign of Charlemagne. I came to find that basically there isn t a book to tell you exactly about
feudalism, no rule book or handbook. Because of this feudalism is sometimes difficult to describe and
just as difficult to understand, I had problems understanding the topic myself. I actually found myself
having to think harder and require more resources spending multiple hours just researching on the
matter just to understand the system as much as possible and its apparently nonexistent rules. On top
of that, also attempting to learn how feudalism first started and why of its popularity for many years.
As I continued to gather information, I noticed the difficulty of finding just how and where feudalism
made its first appearance. It was rare I would find two credible sources with the same historical dating
for feudalism.
Feudalism was the term officially used by historians to describe the type of government institutions, as
well as the general social and political relationships, that existed at that period among warrior
landholders in much of Europe, what we know today as the Middle Ages. Feudalism, a few years later
after its birth, it began defined as a contract under which military service was given in

Tired Of Cleaning Clogged Gutters? Install Gutter Guards And Keep Leaves Out If scraping decaying
leaves out of your gutters is a job you hate, you should think about installing gutter guards. The guards
keep leaves out of the troughs while allowing rain to seep in, so your gutters work as intended. While
they don t make your gutters completely maintenance free, they do cut down on a lot of time and labor
spent cleaning your gutters. Here are a few things to know. Different Types Of Gutter Guards You can
buy different types of gutter guards. Some are screens of mesh or nylon that sit on top of the troughs.
Others are curved like a dome, so leaves slide off. Some guards fit inside the gutters. They are like
sponges or bristle brushes that allow water in, but keep leaves out. When choosing the type of guards
to put on your gutters, consider how they will affect the appearance of your house. The most visible
are the curved domes that sit on top of the troughs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you have screens or bristle guards, you may be able to clean them by flushing them with water
while they are still in place. You ll have to remove domed guards so you can see inside the troughs.
The guards should snap on and off in large sections so you can remove them and hose them off in your
yard. With no piles of leaves clogging the troughs, small seeds and twigs should flush on through with
running water. Even though your gutters and the guards may not be clogged or have much debris in
them, it is still important to clean them occasionally. It is always a good idea to inspect your gutters
annually, and clean them if needed, to make sure they are working properly. If a limb falls on the
gutters or a raccoon messes around on your roof, one of the guards could become dislodged and allow
leaves in without you knowing it unless you inspect your gutter system

Persuasive Speech Essay
I. Introduction:
A. Relate to self and audience: I love story. Matter of facts, I would love to get to know each of you
and listen to your personal stories. Especially, I enjoy listening to struggles related stories. Every day,
each of us walks to class and acts normal , though we might carry something deep inside. Something
that is too dark which we cannot let others know. From time to time, we keep carrying that wound. It
hurts us every now and then, but we say nothing.
Transition: For today, I am going to show you mine.
B. Attention Getter: I was bullied for seven years straight. During the first five years, the end of
middle school and entire high school, I was being targeted physically and emotionally. I tried to move

Therefore, oxytocin is known as cardio protective as it keeps the heart healthy (Hamilton, 2011).
Transition: What I m trying to say here is that all of these complicated processes happened because of
giving and receiving kindness. It actually improves the soul of our heart, but also its physical well
beings.
B. Main point II: Kindness reflects leadership quality because it teaches leader how to lead and take
initiatives.
Orly Wahba, CEO of Life Vest Inside, once said that a small act of kindness shows that we have a
power to make a change like a leader (TED Talk, 2014). It also demonstrates that we push ourselves
out of our comfort zone and take actions to help others (TED Talk, 2014).
She emphasizes that our kind actions, big or small, prove that we want to take charge and make the
world become a better place (TED Talk, 2014). And that, in her opinion (also mine), kindness is such a
simple, valuable quality which demonstrates a powerful role, a leader (TED Talk, 2014).
Transition: I want to you take these two points and understand them through my story and my
perception.
Need + Satisfaction + Visualization: Imagine this, you, in my body, wake up and ready to start your
day. However, before you get out of bed, you have to look real quick at social media. Right that
moment, you are flooded with hatred direct messages from people in your past. They call you fake.

How Did Germany Lose Ww2
In the beginning of World War II, Germany seemed to be on a path to dominating Europe. Our world
could be vastly different politically, technologically, and socially if this had happened, but it didn t.
Why is this? While Germany led many campaigns during World War II, it seems like one caused it to
lose the war: Germany s loss of North Africa in 1943 eventually led to its downfall. This is because
the North African failure was a massive loss of resources and morale and because it gave the Allies a
geographic advantage. It started Germany on a slow decline that lasted until it finally surrendered in
1945. One of the primary reasons the North African campaign was so damaging was because of the
resources lost by its failure. The Germans lost thousands of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The largest of these was access to the Mediterranean and Italy. Up until this point, routes of delivery
[from the Allies to the USSR] were long, roundabout, and difficult because the Mediterranean and the
Baltic were closed to Allied cargo vessels. (Greenfield, 228) Now, using ports and outposts in Africa,
the Mediterranean was open and the USSR could get the reinforcements it needed to begin its fatal
push into Germany. At the same time, Britain and the US were able to begin the Italian campaign,
overthrowing one of Germany s main allies and supporters and beginning their own push into
Germany. Losing control of Africa provided the Allies with a strategic advantage that Germany didn t
have the resources to cope with. Throughout the second World War, Germany was involved in
campaigns across the world, from Europe to the Pacific to Asia. One of the most influential was the
one in North Africa. The North African campaign began the decline of Germany in World War II
because its failure brought with it large losses of resources, morale, and strategic

Dangers Of Drones Research Paper
Have you ever been watching a sports game and wish you could have a better view on the game or
heard of a natural disaster and heard of unfound people and wish there was a solution? Well there is,
drones. Drones can be useful in many circumstances and some of those circumstances are searching
for missing people during natural disasters, security and security cameras and for news sports and
more television related media. Drones should be allowed almost everywhere, they can have a positive
impact and even save lives. Media outlets like the BBC and Al Jazeera have begun using drones to

Juniper Research estimates the agricultural sector will account for 48 percent of all commercial drones
sales in 2016 (Murphy, dr. Christina Mercer Margi.). If a farmer has animals or crops in a field he will
need to monitor the area for predators, and have less time for other things. Well now with the help of
drones he doesn t always need to be there and will have more time to do other things. The farmers can
use drones to check off their crops or animals which would make the farmer s life a lot easier. Another
great use for drones is in prisons. Drones can be used for prison security. The drones can watch over
the inmates when they are in the yard and other locations, so they can make sure no one is being bad.
Many campuses have cheap budgets and they need to pay for security. Campuses can use drones to
have a 24⁄7. With drones they can fly around the campuses at night and watch everything going on and
make campus feel a lot safer. Who wouldn t want to feel safe at campuses or who doesn t want to

Changes That Shaped American Politics in the 70’s and 80’s
Changes that Shaped American Politics in the 70 s and 80 s
Loraine J Jackson
Everest University
Abstract
For many individuals in the United States, the late 1970s were a troubled and disturbing time. The
Watergate scandal, the Vietnam War, ambiguity in the Middle East and the economic crisis in the
Nation had weakened the confidence of Americans in their government and in their fellow residents as
well. Many Americans supported a new conservatism in social, economic and political life during the
1980s, distinguished by policies of President Ronald Reagan. Politically, the United States
experienced numerous changes during the 1970 s. There were liberal Democratic administrations for
most of the 1960 s followed by a conservative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reagan and the Cold War The Cold War was a period when the Soviet Union and the United States
began negotiations which would eventually see the end of the Cold War. Still, in the early 80 s the
Cold War offered little open diplomacy between the Americans and the Soviets. As such, both were
content to increase their nuclear stockpiles and augment their armed forces budgets if necessary.
Therefore, anti nuclear movements and demonstrations were a typical feature of the early 1980 s (The
Cold War in the 1980 s, 2010). The international achievement of the Intermediate Range Nuclear
Forces Treaty, or (INF), was an agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union that each
would destroy an entire class of weapons as part of this nuclear disarmament treaty (Abbot, 2011).
Organized Labor Struggle There was a downside to the economic recovery which came in the form of
Republican offensive against labor unions. One such event was the firing of more than 10,000 air
traffic controllers for their violations of a no strike clause in hiring agreements (Abbot, 2011). There
was also a decline in union membership as well as blue collar positions. When union membership
waned, unions had difficulty managing with the changing economy. Corporations took the opportunity
to mandate wage rollbacks and compromises on working

The Floor Was Stained With Blood
The floor was stained with blood. A ragged, tri colored wool mat sat upon it. The boards would creak
even if a small mouse were to crawl across it. Underneath the blood stained floor boards was an old
cellar. Inside the cellar there was a small table, hundreds of bushels of apples, and an old wooden
chair. In the most internal part of the chair there was a teen girl named, Libitina. Her arms were tied
around the back of the chair, her legs tied to the bottoms of the chair. There was a gauze in her mouth,
and a laceration across her head that bleed profusely onto the desolate ground. Her eyes watered,
reflecting her feelings of pain, and fear. Light emerged from the cellar door showing the sillouette of a

him profusely. She hit one of his small knees, and he fell to the floor. When he got up what he did was
horrifying. He let out a laugh, dusted himself off, and walked up to Libitina. He grabbed a pair of
rusty plyers from inside his suits pockets. He walked up to her, and grabbed her by the throat. As she
gasped for air he tied the gauze around her mouth, and ever so carefully plucked her teeth out one by
one. Her mouth poured blood like a fountain, and she screamed in horror as her teeth would be pulled,
and twisted out. Adalwoof was so concentrated on doing it in the most precise manner. What he did
last would be the worst. He grabbed her tongue with his hand, and ever so lightly pulled it out. She
screamed, and cried in horror. Adalwoof let out a malicious laugh, and held the tongue tightly in his
grasp. To bad you can t talk anymore or maybe you could ve persuaded me not to do this. He let out a

Sociological Imagination

Sociology 101: General Education Assignment
Sociological Imagination and What That Means in Regard to the Wage Gap According to Ballentine in
Our Social World the sociological imagination can be best understood as [understanding] our personal
experiences and problems by examining their broader social context by looking at the big picture
(Ballentine, pg. 8). This term was coined by sociologist C. Wright Mills in his book published in 1959.
Mills believed that problems in our personal lives were usually caused by discrepancies or issues with
our society or world as a whole. One example of this type of problem deals with the wage gap
between males and females in the United States.

Assessing The Vitality Of A Given Economy
In order to evaluate the vitality of a given economy, one must have a thorough understanding of the
key performance indicators related to economic health. Through careful research of government
statistics, media outlets, and private individuals, it can be concluded that there are 3 main indicators
that can predict and diagnose an economic situation. These main indicators, Gross Domestic Product,
Consumer Price Index, and Standard and Poor s 500 Index, each have a direct correlation to overall
economic vitality. This report outlines each of the 3 indicators and provides an economic projection
based on historical data.
Gross Domestic Product
A Lagging Indicator of Economic Vitality
Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the sum of goods and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Real GDP takes into account inflation, and therefore is a more accurate reflection of economic vitality
(1). One way in which GDP can reveal a country s economic situation is a comparison of potential
GDP and real GDP. Potential GDP is a metric that calculates what an ideal economy would produce if
it were operating at full efficiency. The difference between the United States potential and realized
GDP, known as the output gap, since the year 2004 is depicted below (2).
As evident by this data, production output dropped drastically during the 2008 crisis and has yet to
return to its pre crash volume. While the output gap is shrinking slowly, the difference represents
trillions of dollars of lost revenue. Despite slow progression, the steady lessening of the output gap
does point to economic recovery. The Congressional Budget Office reports that real GDP is expected
to rise 3% by the fourth quarter of 2014 and continue the same trend for the next 3 years (3).
Consumer Price Index
A Lagging Indicator of Economic Vitality Another lagging indicator of economic health is the
Consumer Price Index (CPI). CPI measures median price fluctuation for a base volume of goods that a
typical consumer purchases in a year (4). The CPI is a reliable measurement with a low sampling error
of .03% and includes approaches to combat bias (5). The CPI is an excellent comprehensive indicator
of economic vitality because a multitude of other factors

Richard II Dbq Analysis
Late 14th century English king Richard II lost all of his power towards the end of his reign as a result
of his exploded sense of self importance and godly association, which led to fatal opposition from
multiple prominent aristocrats and eventually England as a whole. This gradual growth of opposition
can be seen in the persecution of Richard s most favored advisors; the aftermath of fear and
apprehension that followed Richard s execution of the Lord s appellant in 1397; and his swift and
universally encouraged abdication by Henry Bolingbroke, future Henry IV. The civil turmoil, famine,
and plague that marked 14th century England was left behind by Edward the Black Prince in 1376 and
entrusted in the hopeful 10 year old king Richard II in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adam of Usk, a Welsh canonist, chronicler, and witness of Bolingbroke s march remarks that: King
Richard... sent forward the lord [Thomas] Despencer to stir up the men of Glamorgan to his help; but
they obeyed him not. Stunned by this news coming in from all sides, and acting on the advice of those
who I think were traitors... he fled in panic at midnight with only a few followers... . Defenseless,
Richard s rule was effectively at an end, and with ubiquitous encouragement from Parliament and the
commonwealth, Henry of Bolingbroke held Richard captive until he unwillingly agreed to abdicate his
crown. Richard spent the rest of his days in Pontefract castle and died from starvation. Adam of Usk
summarizes the lasting deprecating reputation of King Richard II: Wherefore of this king Richard, as
of Arthgallo, once king of Britain, it may well be said in this wise: Arthgallo debased the noble and
raised up the low, he took from every man his wealth, and gathered countless treasure ; wherefore the
chiefs of the land, unable longer to bear such great wrongs, revolting against him, put him aside and
set up his brother to be

A Brief Note On The Uk And China
An Overview of DE in the UK and China
When discussing DE, the UK exemplifies both the history and success of DE because the
industrialization Revolution (IR) led the UK to pioneer the development of DE. Similarly, when
discussing DE development in China, the UK is the indispensable model of DE and the country to
appreciate. China could not have started DE in 1970s without the support and example of the UK s DE
system.
DE in the UK. Britain has a long history with DE. From the 1860s to the 1940s, British society was
significantly promoted by the IR. The rapid industrialization of the IR caused the need for a large
number of highly skilled workers, which is seen as the beginning of the appearance of DE.
Meanwhile, the techniques, which could realize distance communication, also matured. For example,
the advancement in the printing and publishing industry, the national postal service system, the
invention of steam locomotives, and the construction of railways provided the basic communication
cycle for correspondence education, which was the early stage of DE. Both the social and
technological environments for the emergence and development of the British DE system began with
these advancements.
The University Extension Movement in the UK. According to the British law in the early 1850s, none
university except the ones with Royal Special Permit could issue diplomas. According to the British
government requirements for university admission, the students needed to first apply for

  • 3. Schizophrenia Stigmas, Causes and Brain Activity... Schizophrenia Stigmas, Causes and Brain Activity Differences Contrary to popular belief, Schizophrenia is not a mental health disorder but a psychotic based disorder, in which those affected often experience psychosis. Those experiencing psychosis are known to lose touch with reality; this loss often results in delusions and/or hallucinations. This leads one to ask: what are the social stigmas, plausible causes and brain activity differences related to schizophrenia? Background Schizophrenia is broken down into 4 subtypes: Paranoid type, Disorganized type, Undifferentiated type, and Residual type (Goldberg, 2013). Paranoid type Schizophrenia is the most well known type, and is often seen as the stereotypical view of Schizophrenia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychiatrist D. Fuller Torrey, M.D., states Schizophrenia is the modern day equivalent of leprosy (qtd: in Tartakovsky, 2014). There are harsh stereotypes surrounding those affected such as a higher level of danger, universal symptoms, predetermined traits, a need for hospitalization, and even, put simply by Demian Rose, M.D., Ph. D., a belief Schizophrenics are either psychotics or not. (Tartakovsky, 2014). These stigmas lead to extremely detrimental effects such as, more homeless sufferers, less job opportunities, a lower quality of life, lower self esteem, higher stress levels, and more symptoms (Corrigan, 1998). Like most problems, these stigmas could be corrected with a fairly basic understanding of Schizophrenia and how it affects its sufferers. The most common of these stigmas is the higher level of danger. According to professor Dawn I. Velligan, many people believe those affected by Schizophrenia are more dangerous than the general public because of their disorder; however, schizophrenics usually tend to be the victims of violence rather than the perpetrators (Tartakovsky, 2014). In addition, when treated or medicated, schizophrenics are no more dangerous than the general population. Along these same lines, many believe schizophrenics experience the same symptoms (Tartakovsky, 2014). There are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Use Of Imagery In All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich... Imagery is often used to allow the reader to develop a fuller understanding of the plot, characters, and setting. In Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, he uses imagery to help the reader understand the experience of war. Imagery allows the reader to comprehend Paul s thoughts and to relate with the other characters. It makes the war realistic and provides a deeper understanding of the war because it affects all of the senses. Remarque uses imagery to emphasize the themes of war and to demonstrate the contrasts of war during battles and in the meantime. In the novel, imagery is used to show the reader how tedious life in the trenches can be, but even though it may be torture to the soldiers, they spend their time together to make the period between the battles less exasperating. When the Paul and his comrades are waiting after one of the battles, he begins to describe how they kill lice because it gives them entertainment when he says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diction in the passage exhibits the dying soldier s fear through the dramatic word choice. Remarque continues to emphasize the fear in the scene through the use of hyperboles and personification. The soldier s fear is exaggerated because it is powerful enough to move Paul. Since the soldier is frightened, it magnifies Paul s fear because he is displaced and is unsure how to return to his trench. After the gurgling ceases, the tone becomes less tense because it is clear that the man is dying and would not be a threat. Paul realizes that he is the part of the cause of the suffering and feels guilty. The image creates tension in the mood and fully conveys Paul s concern and anxiety while he sees this dying man. Yet, Paul still feels a need to help the man because he notices that the man s eyes are communicating that he wants to live. Remarque s description of the man s helpless plea emphasizes the horrors of war and the fear of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Taxonomy For Evaluating Business Data Visualizations A Taxonomy for Evaluating Business Data Visualizations Submission Type: Emergent Research Forum Papers Introduction We are creating data in enormous quantities primarily because of improvements in data capture technologies. But much of this data are underused or never being used. A detailed analysis of this underused data is often impractical due to time, personnel, and other resource constraints. Data visualization techniques offer a good means of taking an immediate look at this data for exploring the underlying relationships then analyzing relationships and finally understanding the knowledge embedded in the data. While there is an increased interest in Business and Data Analytics and related areas, it appears that efforts to evaluate their contributions are lacking. The need for developing an unified framework for evaluating the data visualizations is of paramount importance. A special issues just devoted to this topic of evaluating visualizations exploring its complexities (Bertini, E., Lam, H., Perer A., 2011) highlights its importance further. The present study builds on these attempts to consider the contribution of various visualization technologies by applying the ideas already presented established frameworks. • 8. One Blind Man To Another In Raymond Carver s Cathedral Cathedral: One Blind Man to Another In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the reader is given a glimpse into the precarious relationship between the narrator and his wife. The narrator shares his heavily critical point of view on the forthcoming visit from his wife s old friend whom he calls the blind man later known as Robert . Specifically, Carver uses first person narrative to put the reader in the mindset of the speaker who although keeps information hidden about himself, eventually exposes a substantial amount of character through his commentary. Slowly but surely he divulges his tremendously insecure, stubborn, and immature nature when it comes to matters of exhibiting empathy for others and most importantly obtaining the emotional depth for it. The narrator seems to have formed a bias against Robert based off of his knowledge of him through his wife s stories of her time with him. Beginning the passage, he expresses his disdain for the blind man visiting him and his wife saying he isn t enthusiastic about his visit and his being blind bothered [him] to the point of outright stating that it was not something [he] looked forward to (p.209). Bog bodies are bodies that were deposited in a bog shortly after death, they were then naturally preserved in the bog. To clarify why they re so important, bog bodies are usually so well preserved that their skin, intestines and other parts of their body remain. Scientists study them and they are able to find when they died, using radiocarbon analysis, and how they died which is only possible it s not a skeleton because certain wounds can only be seen on skin and not on bones. Scientists look at only a few apparatus to discover additional information about the past, they analyze fossils, artifacts, preserved bodies, and ancient architecture. With bog bodies gone, that leaves a miniscule amount of items to study. Artifacts or items belonging to ancient people don t provide tremendous amounts of information. Additionally, fossils belong to a whole other category, animals and plants from prehistoric times. Consequently, this doesn t provide information about primitive culture and don t assist scientists seeking data on primeval civilization. Furthermore, bog bodies are probably the most complex sources of enlightenment because they can provide clothing, weapons, and materials of specific eras, as well as informing us about their actions. For instance, of scientists suspected the person was sacrificed we can conclude that whatever civilization they were from practiced human sacrifice. In all honesty, bog bodies would be a grand loss because they re far more intriguing than other artifacts. Considering this, bog bodies supply insight about someone s life and it simulates reading an autobiography because you find out multitudes of information about the person, even if they re dead. Yearning for Peace in Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place While Hemingway s short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place is usually interpreted as an intensely poetic description of despair, it can with equal validity be seen instead as mankind s never ending yearning to find spiritual peace. Hemingway s short story displayed this emotional journey in many different ways. First, the title itself is a symbol for man s desire to find a state of tranquillity, safety, and comfort. Hemingway also showed this in the story s setting, which was used as a symbol for a sense of order, for it was late, the cafe was empty, and the men there were at ease. Finally, Hemingway showed this desire in the contrasting actions between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here he was showing that in one s lowest level of despair, man s one and only desire is to find a safe haven, and to acquire a sense of security. Finding a sense of security and meaning to life was very important to Hemingway who was known to feel that the individual quest for meaningful values was a universal one, probably because Hemingway himself struggled to find the true meaning of his life, or the true sense of his purpose. The despair that Hemingway himself felt is best shown in A Clean, Well Lighted Place when the older waiter was intertwined in a conversation with himself. He said that: It was all a nothing and a man was nothing too. It was only that and light was all it needed and a certain cleanness and order. Some lived in it and never felt it but he knew it was nada y pues nada y nada y pues nada (383). Nothing and then nothing. When one is in a state of despair, the only thing that one is looking for is a way out of one s situation, or a road that will lead to a peaceful end to one s feelings of hopelessness. Hemingway, however, presented a remarkable example of man s search for an end to his state of hopelessness. When one waiter commented on the deaf man s attempt at taking his own life, he said Last week he tried to commit suicide. The other waiter replied Why? Then he said, He was in despair (379). The hardest thing for teenagers to understand is that if they end up contracting an STD, not only are their parents going to be disappointed, but they will most likely have social problems in school or in public in general. Most teenagers would not necessarily want to be friends with someone who has an STD because they would be afraid to somehow get it too. A teen that ended up with an STD would most likely lose a lot in not all of their friends. An STD is just a giant social burden. Just under half of the teens in the U.S. do not see themselves at risk for contracting an STD (Henry J. Kaiser...). According to the Henry J. The Two Methods Of Surface Mining And Underground Mining Introduction Mining is what people use to extract minerals and ores, there are two methods that you can use that is surface mining and underground mining. What is underground mining/surface mining? Underground mining is what people use to extract hard minerals from underground some of those are Gold, Copper, Iron, Metal and Zinc, and many more minerals found underground. The two methods used for underground mining is cut and fill and room and pillar. Cut and fill is when the material extracted from underground is then used to fill another space. Room and pillar is when the ore is extracted in a horizontal line. There are two phases to extracting a mineral using the room and pillar method. Surface mining is when you find minerals either above the surface or on the surface in soil etc. The two most popular ways to do surface mining is open pit mining and strip mining. Open pit mining is when you extract rocks from the earth s surface in open pits, the minerals found using open pit mining are Ores, copper and aluminium. Strip mining is when you get rid of soil and rocks above a layer of coal normally and you then extract the mineral, coal is the only mineral normally extracted using the strip mining method. • 16. Solomon Northup s Twelve Years A Slave Solomon Northup s Twelve Years a Slave Twelve Years a Slave was written by Solomon Northup. The book provides the reader a deeper understanding of the hardest periods in American history slavery. When reading Twelve Years a Slave, people can have a better understanding of how slaves were treated back in the 1800s. Northup discussed in details how slaves were mistreated and cruelly beaten by their masters. Masters were heartless; they would beat their slaves till they were close to take their last breath. Many people feel grateful that they were not born during the 1800s. Northup showed different aspects of slavery. He deliberated his days from a free man, to held captive, serving as a slave for three different masters in the south, to gaining his freedom again after twelve years. The first two chapters of Twelve Years a Slave, the author, Solomon Northup, informed the reader about his life as a free man. He was born a free African American in July 1808 in Minerva, New York. He was the son of an originally enslaved father to the Northup family; this is where Solomon received his last name. However, his father was freed after the Northup family moved to New York. While growing up, Solomon helped his father with the farm duties. Also, he had a degree of proficiency in reading and writing. Finally, this paper will address which organizational structure she should adopt for CBO using the framework of five determinants of organizational structure. Some major power players in Rivlin s appointment and confirmation on the House side were Chairman Al Ullman and then Rep. Brock Adams. On the Senate side, Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, who recommended Rivlin, Edmund Muskie was a major influence in her appointment. One of the first things Rivlin did was bringing on Robert Reischauer, a fellow economist from the Brookings Institute, as her right hand man at CBO. She also reviewed the Budget Act, which specified what CBO was charged, which was relatively short. Therefore CBO had considerable freedom under the legislation since both the Senate and House had no clue what they wanted from their new budget shop. This provided Rivlin an enormous opportunity to look at other models of how to structure CBO. She could model CBO after other sister agencies like the General Accounting Office (GAO), Congressional Research Service (CRS), the former Office of Technology Assessment (OTA), Office of Management and Budget (OMB), or the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation Staff. Some suggestions were to organize CBO along functional lines with policy areas like defense or human resources in separate divisions each containing a numbers and analysis subdivision. Another suggestion was to spread the numbers function all around to enable program divisions with a focus on customer relations. But Rivlin also had to be aware of political patronage. • 19. Feudalism And Feudal States From Europe After The Breakup... Name: Jessica Anne Knupp Date: 10/04/2014 Class: HS111 World CIV How did feudalism and feudal states come to be formed in Europe after the breakup of the Carolingian empire? Feudalism is the word used to describe a complex set of relationships which appeared following the reign of Charlemagne. I came to find that basically there isn t a book to tell you exactly about feudalism, no rule book or handbook. Because of this feudalism is sometimes difficult to describe and just as difficult to understand, I had problems understanding the topic myself. I actually found myself having to think harder and require more resources spending multiple hours just researching on the matter just to understand the system as much as possible and its apparently nonexistent rules. On top of that, also attempting to learn how feudalism first started and why of its popularity for many years. As I continued to gather information, I noticed the difficulty of finding just how and where feudalism made its first appearance. It was rare I would find two credible sources with the same historical dating for feudalism. Feudalism was the term officially used by historians to describe the type of government institutions, as well as the general social and political relationships, that existed at that period among warrior landholders in much of Europe, what we know today as the Middle Ages. Feudalism, a few years later after its birth, it began defined as a contract under which military service was given in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Cleaning Gutter Guards Research Tired Of Cleaning Clogged Gutters? Install Gutter Guards And Keep Leaves Out If scraping decaying leaves out of your gutters is a job you hate, you should think about installing gutter guards. The guards keep leaves out of the troughs while allowing rain to seep in, so your gutters work as intended. While they don t make your gutters completely maintenance free, they do cut down on a lot of time and labor spent cleaning your gutters. Here are a few things to know. Different Types Of Gutter Guards You can buy different types of gutter guards. Some are screens of mesh or nylon that sit on top of the troughs. Others are curved like a dome, so leaves slide off. Some guards fit inside the gutters. They are like sponges or bristle brushes that allow water in, but keep leaves out. When choosing the type of guards to put on your gutters, consider how they will affect the appearance of your house. The most visible are the curved domes that sit on top of the troughs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you have screens or bristle guards, you may be able to clean them by flushing them with water while they are still in place. You ll have to remove domed guards so you can see inside the troughs. The guards should snap on and off in large sections so you can remove them and hose them off in your yard. With no piles of leaves clogging the troughs, small seeds and twigs should flush on through with running water. Even though your gutters and the guards may not be clogged or have much debris in them, it is still important to clean them occasionally. It is always a good idea to inspect your gutters annually, and clean them if needed, to make sure they are working properly. If a limb falls on the gutters or a raccoon messes around on your roof, one of the guards could become dislodged and allow leaves in without you knowing it unless you inspect your gutter system ... • 22. How Did Germany Lose Ww2 In the beginning of World War II, Germany seemed to be on a path to dominating Europe. Our world could be vastly different politically, technologically, and socially if this had happened, but it didn t. Why is this? While Germany led many campaigns during World War II, it seems like one caused it to lose the war: Germany s loss of North Africa in 1943 eventually led to its downfall. This is because the North African failure was a massive loss of resources and morale and because it gave the Allies a geographic advantage. It started Germany on a slow decline that lasted until it finally surrendered in 1945. One of the primary reasons the North African campaign was so damaging was because of the resources lost by its failure. The Germans lost thousands of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the same time, Britain and the US were able to begin the Italian campaign, overthrowing one of Germany s main allies and supporters and beginning their own push into Germany. Losing control of Africa provided the Allies with a strategic advantage that Germany didn t have the resources to cope with. Throughout the second World War, Germany was involved in campaigns across the world, from Europe to the Pacific to Asia. One of the most influential was the one in North Africa. The Watergate scandal, the Vietnam War, ambiguity in the Middle East and the economic crisis in the Nation had weakened the confidence of Americans in their government and in their fellow residents as well. Many Americans supported a new conservatism in social, economic and political life during the 1980s, distinguished by policies of President Ronald Reagan. Reagan and the Cold War The Cold War was a period when the Soviet Union and the United States began negotiations which would eventually see the end of the Cold War. Still, in the early 80 s the Cold War offered little open diplomacy between the Americans and the Soviets. As such, both were content to increase their nuclear stockpiles and augment their armed forces budgets if necessary. Therefore, anti nuclear movements and demonstrations were a typical feature of the early 1980 s (The Cold War in the 1980 s, 2010). The international achievement of the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, or (INF), was an agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union that each would destroy an entire class of weapons as part of this nuclear disarmament treaty (Abbot, 2011). Organized Labor Struggle There was a downside to the economic recovery which came in the form of Republican offensive against labor unions. One such event was the firing of more than 10,000 air traffic controllers for their violations of a no strike clause in hiring agreements (Abbot, 2011). There was also a decline in union membership as well as blue collar positions. When union membership waned, unions had difficulty managing with the changing economy. Assessing The Vitality Of A Given Economy In order to evaluate the vitality of a given economy, one must have a thorough understanding of the key performance indicators related to economic health. Through careful research of government statistics, media outlets, and private individuals, it can be concluded that there are 3 main indicators that can predict and diagnose an economic situation. These main indicators, Gross Domestic Product, Consumer Price Index, and Standard and Poor s 500 Index, each have a direct correlation to overall economic vitality. This report outlines each of the 3 indicators and provides an economic projection based on historical data. Real GDP takes into account inflation, and therefore is a more accurate reflection of economic vitality (1). One way in which GDP can reveal a country s economic situation is a comparison of potential GDP and real GDP. Potential GDP is a metric that calculates what an ideal economy would produce if it were operating at full efficiency. The difference between the United States potential and realized GDP, known as the output gap, since the year 2004 is depicted below (2). As evident by this data, production output dropped drastically during the 2008 crisis and has yet to return to its pre crash volume. While the output gap is shrinking slowly, the difference represents trillions of dollars of lost revenue. Despite slow progression, the steady lessening of the output gap does point to economic recovery. The Congressional Budget Office reports that real GDP is expected to rise 3% by the fourth quarter of 2014 and continue the same trend for the next 3 years (3). Consumer Price Index A Lagging Indicator of Economic Vitality Another lagging indicator of economic health is the Consumer Price Index (CPI). CPI measures median price fluctuation for a base volume of goods that a typical consumer purchases in a year (4). The CPI is a reliable measurement with a low sampling error of .03% and includes approaches to combat bias (5). • 30. Richard II Dbq Analysis Late 14th century English king Richard II lost all of his power towards the end of his reign as a result of his exploded sense of self importance and godly association, which led to fatal opposition from multiple prominent aristocrats and eventually England as a whole. This gradual growth of opposition can be seen in the persecution of Richard s most favored advisors; the aftermath of fear and apprehension that followed Richard s execution of the Lord s appellant in 1397; and his swift and universally encouraged abdication by Henry Bolingbroke, future Henry IV. The civil turmoil, famine, and plague that marked 14th century England was left behind by Edward the Black Prince in 1376 and entrusted in the hopeful 10 year old king Richard II in ... From the 1860s to the 1940s, British society was significantly promoted by the IR. The rapid industrialization of the IR caused the need for a large number of highly skilled workers, which is seen as the beginning of the appearance of DE. Meanwhile, the techniques, which could realize distance communication, also matured. For example, the advancement in the printing and publishing industry, the national postal service system, the invention of steam locomotives, and the construction of railways provided the basic communication cycle for correspondence education, which was the early stage of DE.
