Ethical Sourcing And The Supply Chain
Ethical Sourcing and the Supply Chain Growing competition and the ever increasing emphasis on
cost reduction and efficiency has caused many firms to outsource various components of their
operations outside of the country. As firms are thrusted into the global marketplace and transformed
into multinational corporations (MNCs), new challenges arise related to the differences/disparity in
corporate social responsibility(CSR) practices between countries (Chandler Werther Jr., 2014; Cruz,
2013). Globalizationhas increased companies need to consider the importance and strategic value of
CSR (Chandler Werther Jr., 2014; Cruz, 2013).
At the forefront of international CSR issues, is the consumer demand for ethically managed supply
chains. Cruz (2013) stated that poor CSR performance, at any stage of the supply chain process,
may damage a company s most important asset its reputation (p. 3995). Based upon a case study on
the outsourcing of production activities by Apple Inc. to the controversial contract manufacturer
Foxconn, this paper will discuss whether or not firms have responsibility for the supply chains they
choose to utilize. The paper will also highlight some of the advantages and disadvantages of Apple
s outsourcing decision, along with cost benefit analysis of such decision.
Supply Chain Responsibility As companies increase their global presence through the outsourcing
of manufacturing activities, the question of Who is responsible for ensuring the supply

The Aims and the Results of the Attempts by the Nazi Regime to Transform German Society
When the Nazis came to power in 1933 they began to introduce a set of ideas into the German
society. These ideas were based on the Nazi ideology, which had been outlined by Hitler in his
book Mein Kampf or My Struggle a few years earlier. This essay will examine the Nazis attempts
to integrate their ideological beliefs about youth and about women into the German society. The
essay will also assess the success of this integration.
The Nazis had a number of different aims for the youth and therefore their education needed to be
suitable. The Nazis overall aim was to create a generation of racially pure ... Show more content on

Overall the Nazis aimed to concentrate a large majority of their resources on the conversion of the
youth to Nazi ideology. This was a key aim because the Nazis saw the youth as the future of
Germany and they wanted to have an influence over this generation. Another major aim for the
Nazis was the creation of a national racial community. This idea was known as the
Volksgemeinschaft and was central to the Nazi view of the future.
It wasn t only through youth groups that the youth were indoctrinated to the Nazi regime. The
education system was also completely geared to spreading the Nazi party propaganda. For example
the curriculum was designed around the Nazi ideology. Geography taught the boys map skills
and other skills that would be critical during a war. History taught the Nazi version of History,
which was a contrived version of events, which blamed the Jews for all of Germany s problems in
the past. Even subjects such as Maths were used by the Nazis to further their cause with lesson
concentrating on the angles of ballistics and other such material.
The Nazi views towards women were also presented in the educational system with a girls
education being divided into a number of different lessons each one of which encouraged a life at
home. Examples of these lessons include Hauswirtschaft. This involved domestic science, cooking,

Union of Norway and Sweeden
The dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden was carried out by the Norwegian
parliament under the House of Bernadotte on 7 June 1905. After some months of tension and fear
of war between the two neighbouring nations, negotiations between the two governments led to
Norway s recognition by Sweden as an independent constitutional monarchy on 26 October 1905
Norwegian nationalistic aspirations in 1814 were frustrated by Sweden s victory in a brief war that
resulted in Norway entering into a personal union with Sweden. The Norwegian constitution was
largely kept untouched, allowing for an independent Norwegian state with its own parliament,
judiciary, and executive powers. Over the years, a divergence of Norwegian and Swedish
interests became apparent. When free trade between the countries was restricted in 1895 through
the abolition of the interstate laws , the economic reasons for the continued union were also
diminished. In early 1905, Christian Michelsen formed a coalition government consisting of
liberals and conservatives, whose only stated objective was to establish a separate Norwegian
corps of consuls. The law was passed by the Norwegian parliament. On 7 June 1905, the Storting
voted to dissolve the union with Sweden because Oscar had effectively abandoned his role as King
of Norway by refusing to appoint a replacement government. 7 June is considered independence day
for Norway. The Swedish government considered this declaration as rebellious, and they

Why Do People Behave The Way They Do
n A leaders guide to why people behave the way they do , Clawson points leaders who want to
increase their effectiveness at leading through influence to the need to be able to dig deep below
the surface of the observable everyday human behaviour in order to understand why people behave
the way they do. Clawson argues that it is by paying attention to the human side of individuals
people s Values, Attitudes, Beliefs and Expectations (VABEs) which together shape behaviour that
gives leaders insights into people s motivations. As VABEs are deeply ingrained and shaped
through a combination of our genetic makeup, the experience of how we were nurtured and the
beliefs and values that we have picked along life s journey, understanding where

Comparison of Pepsi and Coca Cola Financials
Comparison of Pepsi and Coca Cola Financials
Introduction
Coca Cola and Pepsi are the two most popular and widely recognized beverage brands in the world.
They have been competing in the soft drink sector for over a century and both companies enjoy
a high degree of brand consciousness globally. Both companies try to market as part of a lifestyle.
Coca Cola uses phrases such as Coke side of life in their website, while Pepsi uses phrases such as
Hot stuff in their web, to promote the idea that Pepsi is in sync with the cool side of life.
Ironically, both Pepsi and Coke have similar beginnings: both were created in the 19th century and
both were the results of the experimental work of innovative pharmacists. Coke was created in ...

Although Pepsi s dividend payout ratio is slightly lower than Coca Cola s, the difference is
marginal. (Finance)
The Dividend Payout Ratio means the percentage of earnings paid to shareholders in dividends.
The payout ratio provides an idea of how well earnings support the dividend payments. More
mature companies tend to have a higher payout ratio. This ratio is calculated as Dividends per
share / Earnings per share. The Dividend payout ratio for Coca Cola is 48.2% while PepsiCo is
34.8%
The price/earnings ratio (P/E) is the best known of the investment valuation indicators. It is the
measure of the share price relative to the annual net income earned by the firm per share. The P/E
ratio has its imperfections, but it is nevertheless the most widely reported and used valuation by
investment professionals and the investing public. The financial reporting of both companies and
investment research services use a basic earnings per share (EPS) figure divided into the current
stock price to calculate the P/E multiple (i.e. how many times a stock is trading (its price) per
each dollar of EPS). A high PE ratio generally indicates increased demand because investors
anticipate earnings growth in the future. The PE ratio has units of years, which can be interpreted
as the number of years of earnings to pay back purchase price. The price/earnings ratio for Coca
Cola is 12.97 while PepsiCo is 16.24. (YCharts,

The Potential Of Fiji s Export Industry
INTRODUCTION
Fiji is categorized as one of the five Pacific Island countries (PICs) with the others being Papua New
Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. After attaining her independence, Fiji
concentrated on her agricultural sector, specifically, sugar cane production and exportation. At the
same time, the successive governments adopted an import substitution policy but later on, after the
IMF intervention, she pursued an export led economic growth policy (Gani Prasad, 2007). She
started diversifying her export basket to not only include agricultural products such as sugar cane
but other products such as gold. Gradually, the service industry overtook the traditional export
industry, to become the highest export earner for Fiji (Narayan, 2000). This industry was consisted
mainly of tourist arrivals.
In this report, Fiji s export industry is covered comprehensively and within the limited resources
available at the time of writing. The core goal of the report is determining the potential of Fiji s
Export industry. In particular, the agricultural and services industry is reviewed. Linear
programming model of total return from aggregate exports is used. This is done with the core aim
of finding out what is limiting the growth of Fiji s export industry and the best way to lessen the
drastic changes in the export returns from year to year.
The aim of this report is to explore the returns and supply side constraints from a range of typical
Fijian export, and also

Historical Analysis Of Virginian Resolutions On The Stamp...
Historical Analysis of Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act (1765)
The Stamp Act that was passed by Parliament in 1765 caused the first major split between England
and the American Colonies. Great Britain had incurred a large loss due to the outcome of the Seven
Years war. Parliament decided to raise taxes directly through the colonists instead of doing it
through the usual regulation of trade. The Stamp Act required all printed material in the colonies to
require a stamp bought from the authorities. The colonists felt this was extremely unconstitutional,
against their liberties and their rights. In 1765, this motivated the Virginia s House of Burgesses
orator, Patrick Henry, to write a document titled Virginia Resolutions on the Stamp Act . In this
document Henry wrote seven resolutions to Virginia s House of Burgesses regarding the Stamp
Act, but only four were approved; the rest were deemed too radical. Regardless of how many
resolutions were approved, all seven were reprinted in the colonial newspapers, which is important
for the intention of the document, because it will be what the colonists read. This paper will
analyze the document and argue why the Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act started to fuel the
fire behind the revolution. The Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act embodied the ideas of the
colonies that led the start of the American Revolution because it caused merchants in the colonies to
boycott British goods, it also reminded the colonists that

C-Arm Fluoroscopy
The purpose of this assignment is to find a topic in patient care that is significant in patient care
in radiography. Then review and summarize an article pertaining to this topic that was selected.
Then it will be connected to how it is valuable it is as a future radiographer and to professionals
and how it is relevant. The topic that will be discussed is the effect on radiation exposure in
pediatric patients with c arm fluoroscopy. This is because one of the most common radiographic
procedures for pediatric patients is fluoroscopy and it is important to lower their radiation dose as
much as possible. C arm is known to have high amounts of radiation to the patient and if a patient
is exposed to radiation it increases their risk for problems... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the class, it has been stressed that there is an importance to lower the radiation dose to the
patient. It is important to lower the dose of radiation because it reduces the chance of radiation
induced complications. It is the one of the priorities of a radiographer to reduce the radiation
dose to the patient. This article was informative of another way to reduce the dose to the patient.
Radiation dose for all patients should be reduced as much as possible because radiation does
have harmful effects and should be limited throughout a year. The project was done to determine
if having a laser targeting system would decrease the radiation dose by eliminating unintentional
radiation prior to localizing the region of interest (Schenk Johnston p. 39). The idea behind laser
targeting was to limit and reduce the time it took to do the procedure, by reducing time exposed
to radiation it lowers the dose to the patient. The laser aids the technologist in properly aligning
the c arm in the desired position without exposing the patient to radiation (Schenk Johnston p.
42). Before the radiation dose was higher because the part of interest was located while radiation
was occurring. Now to know that the laser can locate the part of interest before exposing the
patient to radiation will help allow me to reduce patient dose if there is a laser with that particular
fluoroscopic machine. Even though this experiment was done using pediatric patients, it is
relevant information for adult patients as well because it is important to lower radiation dose
regardless of age. This information will be helpful in the future because fluoroscopy is a common
procedure and if there is a laser available on the machine, it should be utilized so radiographers and
students can help reduce the radiation dose to that patient especially, now that it was found to have
some effect on

Morality And Technology And The Presence Of Technology
When young children read the well known fable in class, they are unaware that the story has a
moral. It has a lesson that the adults attempt to instill in them at the very beginning stages of their
lives. These lessons teach morality and begin to introduce certain values to children. In this way,
every person develops values throughout his/her life that are impacted by his or her environment,
biology and social constructs. Through these values, moralityis developed and because each person
has his or her own unique values, morality is based upon the individual. All organisms have evolved
throughout their existence on Earth, but interestingly, humans are the only species that apply
morals to their lives. Morality and technology are manmade inventions. Morality relies on evolution
and the presence of technology.
In the essay Nonmoral Nature, Stephen Jay Gould uses examples of acts of survival that insects
commit in order to ensure their survival. However, because their instinctual acts of survival are
viewed as grotesque, these acts seem immoral to humans. Gould stated, If nature is nonmoral, then
evolution cannot teach any ethical theory at all (1211). This statement refers to the idea that the
sacrificing of the caterpillars and spiders is an act of survival. Animals and insects commit acts in
nature and in their environment because they do what is essential to survive. The animals and
insects do not stop to think about whether what they are doing would be

The Apple Story

that now manufactures and sells various electronic products such as computers, cell phones,
tablets, music players, and computer accessories was once merely an idea two college dropouts

He was right. Although he may have been right, Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985. Without Steve
Jobs, Apple started to trend down, and he rejoined the company in 1997 with a vision to bring it
back to the top. He released a think different ad campaign, featuring pictures of Albert Einstein,
John Lennon, and Thomas Edison that had one goal, to let people know the company still had a
pulse. As copywriter Rob Siltanen said, it got the Apple faithful stirred up, it got the fence sitters
back on board, and it got an audience that was lukewarm on Apple to think about the brand in a
whole new way. (CBC)4 Jobs had many visions and marketing schemes, but his two main
philosophies are summarized by the following: to follow the principles of human engineering to
build friendly products whose simplicity and ease of use make them natural extensions of their
owners, and to create a worldwide customer service organization to service retailers, distributors,
and technical support centers, unmatched in the industry. (Elliot)1 Of course Jobs had his
shortcomings, as already mentioned, but his prowess for marketing and visions for building
companies could not be denied. Once he had an idea in mind, he would not stop until it was done,
meanwhile pushing not only his employees/co workers but also himself to ensure the best product
was put forth for the consumer. His revolutionary Super Bowl ad broke the plain of commercial

American Hustle Movie Analysis
The Art of Survival
I ve always had a particular fondness for movies that made me think. I love long, drawn out
movie scripts that include lots of plot twists, where the movies intent and message is not always
clear right up front. This particular reason is why I chose to evaluate the movie American
Hustle. I really enjoy watching this movie because of the overall story, the characters, and the
actors that were cast in this production. The movie, American Hustle, is a comedy drama that is
loosely based on the real life FBI sting, called ABSCAM, that took place in the late 1970 s and
early 1980 s. The movie centers around two con artist named Irving Rosenfeld, played by Christian
Bale, and Sydney Prosser, played by Amy Adams,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My favorites were Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro. The transformation that
Bale put himself through in order to play this role was incredible. He has a history of gaining
and losing weight for various roles but I had never actually seen this for myself until I watched
this movie. Bale gained 43 pounds, shaved his head to produce a realistic comb over, and
changed his posture by slouching which shortened his height by 3 inches and resulted in a
herniated disc. Jennifer Lawrence was very good in this film. I love how she can immerse
herself into any character, bring them to life, and still have pieces of her own personality shine
through. Even though Robert De Niro s part in this movie was practically nonexistent, he still
made a lasting impression on me. He played the part of a legendary mob boss and casino owner
named Victor Tellegio. I felt this character fit De Niro so well because he has this serious
demeanor and at times can look very intimidating. In his scene, De Niro is sitting down at a pool
table with the sheikh and a couple of other mob bosses as well as Bradley Coopers character, and
he attempts to talk to the sheikh in English. Coopers character, Richie DiMaso, informs Victor
Tellegio that the Sheikh only speaks Arabic and, unbeknownst to anyone else at the

The Effect Of Substrate Concentration On Activity Of Catalase
The purpose of this experiment was to analyze the effects of substrate concentration and
temperature on activity of catalase. The activity was measured by observing the amount of time it
took for 10 mL of oxygen to evolve as an outcome of the catalyzed breakdown of hydrogen
peroxide. Increased temperature and substrate concentration will both effect the activity of a catalase
enzyme. We used 4 different temperatures of an enzyme, as well as a variety of scientific materials.
The results of this experiment confirmed the hypothesis that was tested.
Introduction:
A catalase is an enzyme that is typically found in all living organisms that are exposed to oxygen. A
catalase catalyzes the decompositions of hydrogen peroxide to hydrogen and water. Catalase are
categorized as tetramers because they are polymers consisting of four monomer units. The
complex structure of the catalase tetramer as well as the hydrophobic nature of heme and its
potential in generating reactive oxygen species indicate the need for tightly controlled and assisted
assembly of catalase (Baureder). They are much different from the peroxidases, with considerable
pleated sheet structure, and usually with a bound NADPH molecule (Dunford 12). Enzymes are
important because they protect the cell from oxidative damage by reactive oxygen species.
Catalase levels help to define the oxidative state of cells (Terlecky).
Change was not predicted to occur if there was no catalase present. Although, the higher the

Why The Price Of Crude Oil
This essay will explain why the price of crude oil has fallen so dramatically. Also, it will analyse
the impact the fall in the price will have on major oil producing nations. Moreover, it will
explore the effect that the fall in price will have on major oil companies and their supply
companies. Finally, it will present how the fall in oil price might affect consumers in the
European Union. Crude oil is the one of the most important natural resource of the industrialised
nations, which could generate heat, drive machinery and fuel vehicles and airplanes (years,
someone). Moreover, the crude oil components are used to manufacture almost all chemical
products, such as plastic, detergents, paints and medicines (years, someone). Also, it plays a
significant role in expanding technical ability to discover new sources and extending the
production lives of existing oil fields. Therefore, constant changes in the price of the crude oil
have an impact on a global economy (years, someone). According to Bolton (2014), the oil price
reaches the highest price of almost $150 a barrel in July 2008 and felt in the second half of 2008
as the global financial crisis started. There are a many reasons why the price were so high until
the first half of 2008. Since 2002, the high demand for fuels in rapidly developing countries, such
as China and India increased. In addition, there was frequent disruptions to supply crude oil to the
global markets, such as political and security situation in

A Study On A Patient On The Room Out Of The Window
Another Patient Jumped Out Of the Window. I put down the newspaper and uneasily glanced at
the patient resting by my side for whose comfort I was responsible. It was the winter of my
junior year, my second week working in a state controlled Chinese hospital. On the first day,
without going through any training, I met Yuping, a sixty year old pancreas cancer victim and
also a mother of six. Estranged from her family due to high medical expenditure, none of her
children had shown up in days; I filled their roles. I fed her, took her out for some fresh air and
tried to chat with her, but she rarely talked. She spent her time staring at the plain ceiling and
listening the anxious voices from the hallway. Sitting at her bedside and thinking about that
disturbing news headline, I began to experience a sense of desperation. I was sickened by the
emotional neglect that Yuping experienced, but no matter how I tried, I could not reach into the
heart of this suffering lady. This was the dark side of medicine that I had never seen before.
Right then, I questioned myself, Do I really want to be a doctor? At the beginning of my college
career, this was not even a question that I thought I would ask myself. Fascinated by the endless
possibility provided by programming skill and the beauty of numbers, I majored in Computer
Science and Math. And I greatly enjoy the intellectual challenges posed by both fields. It was not

What Is The Theme Of Freedom In Lord Of The Flies
In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Golding is conveying that when there is no jurisdiction
over humans, things are bound to get out of hand. Freedom has no limits and gives many options
for one without chains binding and restricting their every movement. Golding shows us that
humans are likely to change when there is no authority over them. Firstly, without knowing that
there are regulations or rules, anyone is known to think that they can do whatever they want.
They believe that all their wrongdoings will be bypassed. Secondly, the eventual loss of order in
the boys leads them to separate paths and different tribes. Without a guardian figure guiding them
and keeping together, some individuals believe they can live on their own. Thirdly, humans are
savage by nature and may go back to their roots when the body thinks it needs to. There are several
ways in which Golding illustrates the change in the behaviours of the boys with their new found
freedom; however, the most significant thing is how they now act as people in general on the island.
First and foremost, when children are unsupervised, they tend to think that they can do anything
because they will not receive any inconvenience. For example, the British Naval Officer on shore
states that I should have thought that a pack of British boys would have been able to put up a better
show than that (page 202). This statement from the Officer illustrates that without an adult figure
on the island, the boys became mad and

Roman Persecution of Christians The Roman Empire was arguably the most powerful society the
ancient world ever saw. It was an advanced civilization in which not only the rich, but also people
of lower classes residing in Roman borders, believed in the strength of unity. The Romans trusted
that as long as all people worked as one to help the empire, as it was their duty, they would remain
strong and continue to conquer lesser empires and expand their own.. This belief, known as pietas,
would manifest itself in many facets of Roman society. One such manifestation examined by
historians is the religious belief system known as Paganism. Paganism, for the Romans, took the

Most people know what crucifixion looks like, but what most don t consider is how it must feel
to have nails driven through your limbs. We all recognize the iconic image of Jesus on the
cross, but it s wrong to assume that all crucifixions were executed in the often depicted upright
position. According to Senior Reporter Esther Inglis Arkell, people could be crucified upside
down, sideways along the arms of the cross, or in any other way, shape, or form the emperors
saw fit. Instead of nailing hands to the cross, it was more commonplace and more favorable to
nail the wrists. This meant more stability, and a longer time upright. However, this would also
mean the possibility of cutting a major artery, which would ve caused exsanguination. It s likely
the people carrying out the crucifixion would ve been trained to avoid this, as the point of this
method of torture is to delay the death of the victim for as long as possible. The most common
cause of death resulting from crucifixion has been concluded to be suffocation. The body exhausts
itself to the point where it can no longer physically inhale. It d resemble drowning without water.
However, this could only happen if the victim in question did not first die of exposure. Weather,
scavenger animals such as rats, and even Roman citizens could contribute to the death. Keep in
mind, all this physical pain would occur alongside the slow mental deterioration the victim would

Living As A Lesbian, And August Jordan s A New Politics...
The articles that stood out the most to me were Cheryl Clarke s Living As a Lesbian and June
Jordan s A New Politics of Sexuality . These articles stood out, because while given a similar topic
(lesbians) they both possessed very different, yet similar arguments. I found this interesting because
it is a prime example of societies different views on controversial topics. Cheryl and June s articles
contain many differences, similarities and information to be reflected on.
Cheryl s main arguments are that everyone who loves women (whether its romantically, sexually,
platonically, etc.) is a feminist and lesbians are all part of a rebellion. She states, No matter how a
woman lives out her lesbianism she has rebelled against becoming the slave master s concubine,
viz., the male dependent female, the female heterosexual. This gives evidence towards her
argument that lesbians, regardless their intentions are resisting from the constructs that society
wants them to adhere to. June would disagree with this statement, arguing that lesbians aren t
solely out to rebel but are just pursuing their lives freely. Cheryl also points out that there is no
one sort of lesbian and that whether you consider yourself a full blown lesbian or bisexual it doesn
t change the fact that you are resisting against the heterosexual society. This being true, Cheryl
Clarke also disagrees with the idea of bisexuality; whereas June Jordan identifies as bisexual.

The Influence of Chinese and Irish Laborers on the Transcontinental Railroad
The Chinese and Irish laborers answered strongly when asked to help build the Transcontinental
Railroad that connected the Pacific and the Atlantic Coasts. During the long process the immigrant
workers encountered harsh weather and living and working conditions. Their work produced the
Great Iron Trail in an incredibly short time with minimal resources and equipment. Their struggles
are often overlooked and their overseers credited with the building of the railroad. The Chinese and
Irish found what entertainment they could, often challenging each other to lay more track in one
day than the other. Both found a hostile country in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Irish had come from a hostile Boston in search of a place in the job market. They found an
equality they had been unable to find in New England (Potter 670; Howard 225). Although they
found jobs, few were very successful. A majority still lived in shantytowns and poverty even in
California.
The Civil War played a major role in who was hired and how the employees were chosen. The
Civil War began in 1861, two years before the groundbreaking to start the transcontinental railroad
and one year before the Great Railroad Act of 1862. The construction on the transcontinental
railroad was finished in 1869, four years after the end of the Civil War and six years after the
groundbreaking (Howard 126 143; website). The western and eastern railroad companies had
always depended on immigrant workers and with the start of the Civil War, this dependency was
even greater (Johnson and Supple 191). There was a shortage of white Americans willing to
work because they had either enlisted or been drafted into the war (Hogg 71; Howard 224). The
Chinese were forced into a servant s/slave s life. In some cases, white men imported Chinese
laborers in crowded ships, much like the African slaves, and hired at auctions (Hogg 72 73). The
Chinese were also looking for a way out of poverty and slavery and saw the transcontinental
railroad as a means of escape. During the Civil War, the wealthy were able to buy their way out of
the draft, leaving the poor to fight. The Irish

No Shave November Tradition
The tradition of No Shave November can be traced to Australia in 2004. A group of 30 men
organized an event and grew moustaches for 30 days to raise awareness for prostate cancer and
depression in men. Before No Shave November was created, it started off as Movember, which
was used as an Australian holiday for men to shave off their mustache. Years later it transitioned
over to North American, mainly the U.S. When Movember transitioned over to America, and
became No Shave November, the trend had begun to grow throughout social media as a trending
event for many people (Johnson, J.).

Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP)
Abstract
This paper is going to take a detailed look at Bombardier Recreational Products, also known as

The Ancient Greek culture has had such an impact on the world that no matter where you look you

One example of Pythagoras s feelings of personality towards numbers was the number Ten (10). He
insisted it was quot;the very best quot; number because it contained the first four integers one, two,
three, and four [1 + 2 + 3
+ 4 = 10]. When written in dot notation these numbers formed a perfect triangle.
Taken directly from Thomas Heath who was a civil servant and also one of the leading world
experts on the history of mathematics is a list of theorems attributed to Pythagoras and his
followers: (i) The sum of the angles of a triangle is equal to two right angles. Also the
Pythagoreans knew the generalization, which states that a polygon with n sides has sum of interior
angles 2n 4 right angles and sum of exterior angles equal to four right angles. (ii) The theorem of
Pythagoras
for a right angled triangle the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the
other two sides. We should note here that to Pythagoras the square on the hypotenuse would
certainly not be thought of as a number multiplied by itself, but rather as a geometrical square
constructed on the side. To say that the sum of two squares is equal to a third square meant that the
two squares could be cut up and reassembled to form a square identical to the third square.
(iii) Constructing figures of a given area and geometrical algebra. For example they solved
equations such as a (a x) = x2 by geometrical means. (iv) The

My Dream Of Becoming A Doctor

doctor. Luckily for me, Employment of physicians and surgeons is projected to grow 14 percent
from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations (Bureau of Labor Statistics).
After graduating from high schoolnext May, I plan to major in Engineering, and then go on to
Medical School in order to become a Neurosurgeon. After taking both the Gardner s Intelligence
test and Myers Briggs personality inventory, I discovered new things about myself that I never
knew before, and I believe that this new knowledge will help me excel in my dream of becoming
a doctor. My highest score on the Gardner s Intelligence test came in the Logical/Mathematical
category. This score makes perfect sense for me because I enjoy math and science classes.
Additionally, I use logic and math almost everyday because of my participation on Southview s
Science Olympiad team. In order to achieve my degree in engineering and then medical school, I
will go though countless math and science classes. These classes take a tremendous amount of
work and dedication, and I believe that my high logical/mathematical score prepares me well for
the challenge. My next highest score came in the Intrapersonal category. While this may seem
counterintuitive for a doctor, a profession in which one work with patients and coworkers, I
believe that this can also help me. I will never try to belabor my patients but

and acquisitions. For example, the first international expansion was the acquisition of an airline
catering service in 1966. In 1987, Marriott continued the expansion by acquiring Fairfield Inn and
Residence Inn and entered the lower moderate lodging segment. The rapid growth and global
acquisitions fostered lots of powerful strategies. These strategies were vital for Marriott to sustain
and be successful in the competitive market. (ilovethjw, 2010) Marriott established six strategies
to compete with its rivals. The first strategy was the Next Generation travelers, which purpose was
to understand and attract Gen X, Y and future guests. The second strategy was the Brand
distinction as a way to invest in innovation and differentiation. The third one was the Portfolio
power which built loyalty with the most compelling family of brands. The fourth and fifth ones
were the Technology leadership which empowered connections for guests and associates and the
Owner preference which generated value for hotel owners and franchises. The sixth strategy was
the Global Growth which guided Marriott to expand their footprint and profitability. Other than
these six strategies, Marriott also developed a corporate social responsibility strategy known as

Mental Illness In The Victorian Era
In the Victorian era (during the 1800s), it was a common belief that people with psychological
illnesses were adulterated by the devil. Patients with these conditions were treated imperfectly and
lived in unsanitary conditions. For example, most patients lived in cages, and were given minimal
amounts of food, much like animals in captivity. As science progressed, a new perspective formed
that challenged the original beliefs people had about mental illnesses. Not only did society make
progress in the medicineinvolved in psychological illnesses, but they also made progress in the
perception of these patients. The Dual Diagnosis, Chris Pleasance, Humbleisd.net and

Conditions in these prisons were appalling; however, soon improvements were made due to rapid
revolution as stated in the article by Humbleisd.net . This article went into deep detail and history
regarding legislature that was passed for patient suffrage and rights of mentally ill individuals with
serious psychological conditions. A turning point came when, in 1841, the UK government passed
a new act that required them to inspect the living conditions of asylums ( Humbleisd.net ). They
expected it to be a therapeutic environment, not prison like with poor ventilation, as they found it
to be. This support from the government brought about rapid change in terms of asylum life but
also societal perception of these patients with mental illnesses. This source was substantiated by
the article written by the VictorianEra.org website that covers the many advancements in the
fields of science and medicine during the Victorian era. There was a pervading hopefulness
among all academicians and doctors and writers. For the very first time, religion was relegated to
the second place as far as diagnosis and treatments were concerned ( VictorianEra.org ). The
people, who were earlier narrow minded and refused to accept new theories,

Racial Inequalities
Inequalities Between Whites and African Americans In order for us to work towards a more
racially equal society, we need to know what type of social policies contribute to racial inequalities.
Then, we need to either change those social policies or get rid of them completely. Rothstein
focuses mainly on housing policies, which segregated African Americans from whites. Those social
policies did not only constraint African Americans from buying a house in neighborhoods
predominantly white, but it limited their accessibility to other important resources and services
such as employment and education. This is very similar to today s racial inequalities. According to
Rohstein, ... St. Louis was segregated by interlocking and racially explicit public policies of
zoning, public housing, and suburban finance, and by publicly endorsed segregation policies of the
real estate, banking, and insurance industries (30). Real estate agents and banks contributed to this
segregation between whites and African Americans. As soon as African Americans moved to a
predominantly white neighborhood, whites would pack their things and leave. According to
Rothstein, Once [a black family] moved in and was visible, real estate agents solicited nearby
homeowners to sell quickly before an imminent influx of black buyers caused their homes to lose
value (25). This is one of the techniques that real estate agents used to maintain whites and African
Americans segregated. Real estate agents and mortgage

Steam Engine Essay
The Steam Engine and the Maxim are both forms of technology which were man made that
impacted the world. The steam engine was used to make transportation easier and more
convenient for people. The Maxim gun on the other hand was used to conquer parts of the world
and show superiority over over other groups of people. While both inventions helped groups of
people get what they wanted to survive and thrive for many years, the Steam Engineis more superior
compared to the Maxim. The idea of the Steam Engine originated from a man named Thomas

When it came to weaponry Great Britain was always ahead of the game. Always trading old
weapons while having new weapons with them at all times. The most powerful weapon at that time
was the Maxim gun. The Maxim was invented by Hiram Maxim in 1883. Great Britain was one of
the most dominant countries who wanted Afric. Technology was what could explain their
dominance. When they took parts of Africa the Africans were unable to fight against them. That
was because they could not fight with arrows and a shotgun, while their opponents had a machine
gun waiting for them. Great Britain always had the best weapons. The Maxim was the ultimate
weapon. It was a machine gun that no one could stop.
Though the Maxim did what it was made to do, which was showing dominance and getting
territory, it only helped a specific group of people. Since it was a gun it was obviously used to
kill people. The only people in Africa at the time were Africans. The Maxim was only used for
dominance and claiming territory, because it looked like no other gun at that time. Not really used
to help the continent let alone help the world.
While both inventions helped people achieve their goals one helped more people than the other.
The Steam Engine as stated before helped many miners do their job and get a paycheck. It is also
more significant because it became another idea, and sparked new inventions. Those ideas being the
inventions of cars, trains, and planes. While the Maxim was able to accomplish

Geography And Human Geography
Geography is a science that deals with the description, distribution, and interaction of the diverse
physical, biological, and cultural features of the earth s surface (Websters). We study geography so
that we can better understand the locations of places, people, cultures, physical features of the Earth
and more around us and the world. Studying geographyrequires looking at all of Earth s systems.
Geography is used almost everyday in our daily lives. For example, using a global positioning
system to navigate to a certain location or even visualizing a map of the states to picture where a
state is located in the United States of America.

Every place on the Earth contains physical or cultural significances that distinguish them from
other places. For example, you can tell the difference between a school and a grocery store by the
objects and people that inhabit the location. A place is defined by the objects and people inside of it.
The third theme of geography is, region. Regions are defined as areas that share certain similar,
physical or cultural characteristics. Physical characteristics could include climate or landforms
whereas cultural characteristics could include language or religion.
The fourth theme of geography is, movement which describes how people and religion or other
things move as well as why they move. There are two words to describe someone that moves from
one country to another and they are immigrant and emigrant. An immigrant is someone that moves
into a certain country. On the other hand, an emigrant is someone that moves out of a particular
country.
The fifth and final theme of geography is, human environment interaction. The study of the
interaction between humans and the environment around them informs how people and cultures

Comparing Matthew And Mark s Gospel
Matthew s Gospel was written for a Jewish Christian community. This is evident because Matthew
never explains Jewish tradition. Matthew s Gospel was written in about 85 90 AD. Matthew was
writing to a community in Northern Palestine or Southern Israel. The community that Matthew was
writing the gospel for was in crisis. After the destruction of the temple, the community was trying
to figure out how to be a follower of Jesuswithout the temple or the land. In the gospel, Matthew
writes about a variety of themes. He writes about the conflict and promises made to Israel.
Similarly to Mark s Gospel, Matthew writes about outreach to gentiles and discipleship. Matthew
also includes themes relating to the old testament, church organization, and final judgment. In
Matthew s Gospel, the role of faith is prominent. In the healing stories, the focus is on the
conversation between Jesus and the person he is healing and the secondary people and actions are

For a touch football player to be successful in the middle position several components of fitness

football is coordination. Coordination is needed for all positions in touch football to help your

findings of the investigation, stated: Our findings show that the problems facing the NOPD are
wide ranging, systemic, and deeply rooted in the culture of the Department (The United States

related to performance evaluation and promotions, complaint handling and investigation,

issue that weighed on the New Orleans Police Department: people group were not included in

seen as following the structure of the religious ritual while following Everyman through his
completion of the sacraments. Secondly, Everyman encounters many sacred characters, including,
Death, God, and an Angel. The characters portray performing objects in which throughout the play
these characters are personified. The characters are personified as human companies to Everyman,
although they are actually a part of him taking on the role of seven deadly sins the characters
portray different influences within Everyman s life. The goal of these morality plays were to
entertain the audience, which is an aspect of performance theory, but that these players were also

Everyman encounters characters that are supposed to be friends of his but are really
impersonating the seven deadly sins. The characters Cousin and Kindred are representative of
Gluttony and Lechery of the seven deadly sins. Van Laan states; Gluttony and Lechery, two sins
which, as here, are normally coupled in medieval accounts. These two sins reappear in the
refusals of Cousin and Kindred (Van Laan 469). Goods and Fellowship are also representative of
the seven deadly sins. Fellowship can be seen as Wrath; On the other hand, Seen from the already
established context of the Seven Deadly Sins, the double focus on murder suggests Wrath;
revenge, the first thing that that occurs to Fellowship, is a specific attribute of wrath (Van Laan

Ontological Argument On The Existence Of God
Is God prevalent in modern philosophy? How can one determine such a conclusion without
definitive proof of it s existence. Within this essay I will be addressing the topic of the existence of
God, I will examine proofs such as the Ontological Argument and Cosmological Argument. In doing
so testing its advantages while also providing contradictory arguments as posed by philosophers
such as Kant and Hume.
The first ontological argument for the proof of Gods existence was posed by St.Anselm of
Canterbury (1033 1109 C.E), he reasons the existence of God from the idea of a being than which
no greater can be conceived . According to St.Anselm God is defined as the greatest thing at which
we could possibly imagine, moreover he exists as an abstract ... Show more content on

Following this premise all events and beginnings in this world are from direct causation from a
higher being, in this case God. The question in the root of this argument is one involved with the
matter of existence, Why do things exist? . The KalДЃm argument is one which was favored by the
Islamic tradition although later revived later by the philosopher William Lane Craig. This
argument basis itself on the idea that everything in existence has a cause to it s existence, Stephen
Law gives the example that our parents are our direct cause. This leads us to the assumption that
the Universe began to exist and therefore has some direct causation of its existence, in accordance
to this argument only God fits that role. David Hume however disagrees he explains that we can
only establish truth through experience, thus we do not have enough experience in this field or yet
definitive proof, maybe our current state of the universe needs direct causation however we do not
have enough knowledge of universal origins. Furthermore Bertrand Russel introduces the notion of
Infinite Regress , he says that the universe is just there and that s it maybe the world we know is
not that of an act of creation but rather that one caught in an infinite cycle of regressed causes. This
argument poses that we cannot accredit everything that has

Transmedia: an integral function of Entertainment Franchises
Entertainment franchises have become the most valuable economic function of the entertainment
industry in modern times and there is a lot to explore in respect to this multidimensional monopoly.
Along with the multifaceted nature of these organisations, numerous legal implications emerge.
A successful franchise creates worlds that survive and thrive, despite repeated readings and
viewings, shifts in fashion, value and taste, deadening of postmodern interpretation; thus generating

Descriptive Essay On Guitar Music
For my favorite instrument, I chose the guitar. Many people across the globe are familiar with the
sounds of the guitar. This chordophone, with such a diverse sound, has been showcased in our
favorite songs and bands for decades. As familiar as we are with the sound, how familiar are we the
history, manufacturers, artists, composers, and its popularity in a traditional orchestra? First, I will
discuss the history of the guitar; when it started, the miraculous evolution, and the manufacturers
that took the industry by storm. Although there are many theories, the history is hazy as to
exactly where the first known guitar came from prior to the 16th century. According to the book
A Concise History of the Classic Guitar by Wade Graham, Hittite stone carvings in Turkey; dated
1300 BC, eludes to the possibility of a similar instrument, as well as mentions in the old testament
of long necked lutes in Mesopotamia. In Greek mythology; Fourth Homeric Hymn, mentions the
use of a stringed instrument made of cow gut and turtle carcass. History becomes a lot clearer
around the 16th century, when printed literature became available. According to acousticmusic
the Baroque period is when the guitar really began to gain popularity, and was commonly used to
accompany vocalists. Guitar music began to grow and evolve; the Classical period lasting from
1730 1820, and the Romantic period of 1815 1910 gained more popularity and diversity and was
soon known worldwide. Other

Analysis Of Forgiving My GuiltAndForgive My Guilt
Responsibility is an important quality that mature people possess. People make mistakes, but the
maturity level of a person is determined by whether or not the person takes responsibility for their
errors. The short story The Man Who Was Almost a Man by Richard Wright and the lyric poem
Forgive My Guiltby Robert Coffin both fixate on young boys who wrongly take the lives of
creatures with a weapon. The short storyand the lyric poem share a common theme regarding the
significance of early life experiences to the maturation process as seen in the way the main
characters react to their mistakes. Dave in The Man Who was Almost a Man runs away from
his problems while the narrator in Forgive My Guilt holds himself accountable for his action and
feels guilty. In the short story, The Man Who Was Almost a Man, Richard Wright uses colloquial
language to develop the theme. For instance, in the scene where Dave is accused of killing the
mule, the difference in speech used by Dave, a black sharecropper, and Jim Hawkins, his white
employer, is evident. Jim Hawkins uses a more formal language when talking to Dave: Well,
looks like you have you a mule, Dave (5). In stark contrast, Dave responds using a more informal
way of speaking: Ah swear fo Gawd, Ah didn t go t kill the mule, Mistah Hawkins (5). The speech
in the story shows the varying degrees of education of the characters in the story and depicts the
segregation in the South between whites and blacks. Dave is also a

Work family conflict or conflict due to work interfering with family is said to occur whenever
work responsibilities interfere with family demands (Fiksenbaum 2014). With the demands of
the world today, it is causing more of a blur between work time and family time. It is easier than
ever for bosses to communicate with their employees about work business after the employee has
already left the building, creating a constant conflict between family and work. Working mothers
struggle between the high demands of work as well as their family obligations and too few
employers are taking notice. Women will often decide to quit their jobs and become stay at home
mothers because they feel they are falling behind on their home responsibilities or they are burned
out from trying to balance both of their obligations. However, in order for employers to keep their

During the period of over two hundred years of white settlement in Australia, Sydneysiders have
occasionally been warned of the possibility of an invasion. It was in late may and early June in
1942, during the world war II, that Sydney harbour actually experienced an invasion or attack
from three Japanese Midget submarines. On the night of 29th may 1942, five Japanese
substantial submarines positioned themselves 56 kilometers north east of the entrance of Sydney

The Negative Impact Of Immigrants
Immigrants create an engine of economic prosperity, says the 43 Governor of Florida. While
being only 13% of the population, Immigrants encompass 16% of the labor force, thus adding to
our gross domestic product or GDP. Some People may think that immigration has a negative
impact on our economy. These people believe that by Immigrants having a high employment
rate, native born citizens are being pushed out of jobs, but that s not true. Skagit County is one
of the largest and most diverse agricultural communities. With approximately 90,000 acres of
land, local farmers produce crops, live stock and dairy products. By doing so they make about
300 million dollars worth of food. But all of this work isn t just done by U.S citizens. In an

Signifier In Gillette Advertisement
Semiotics is defined as the study of symbols and signs as elements of communicative behaviour
(NoМ€th 476). A sign comprises of two main parts, namely signifier and signified. The signifier
refers to any objects, image, or words on a page whilst signified is the concept the sign reflects.
Gillette Advert The signifier in the Gillette advertisement is represented by a naked man s torso
with contours similar to a landscape. It is clear that the torso is of man not a woman because of
the masculine physique. It is also appears that the model chosen for the image could be of
Caucasian, Hispanic or Asian descent and not of an African decent because the contrast between
his skin s colour and the contours is very pronounced, an indication of two contrasting hues or
colour shades. Also, the lighting of the image provides a 3 dimension view of the man s torso to

Rome in The Age of Augustus
30 BC ~ Octavian was given the title of Imperator, which was used in the Eastern provinces.
Imperium suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the
first of many titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at
the Battle of Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being
honoured, and that the power he possessed at the time should remain his. Therefore this was the
first factor that initiated the rise of Octavian.

(Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past)The Senate s reaction to Octavian s transfer of power to
them was to beseech Octavian to reverse his decision. After an initial refusal, Octavian accepted
their offers, which left him in a much more powerful place than before. There were two main
elements to Octavian s new position; these were the office of Proconsul and Consul. Proconsul
was a position held for 10 years, and granted control over Spain, Gaul, Syria, Cilicia, Cyprus and
Egypt, as well has having the right to appoint legates, make war and conclude treaties. These
areas of the empire were in need of the most defence; therefore, the majority of the Roman army
was stationed there. Octavian s control over these regions now extended to the control of a large
section of the Roman army. A Consul was elected annually and had authority over Rome and Italy.
There were several provinces belonging to the Roman people, and Octavian used his position as
Consul to claim power over the proconsuls of such provinces. He also now had considerable

  • 2. Ethical Sourcing And The Supply Chain Ethical Sourcing and the Supply Chain Growing competition and the ever increasing emphasis on cost reduction and efficiency has caused many firms to outsource various components of their operations outside of the country. As firms are thrusted into the global marketplace and transformed into multinational corporations (MNCs), new challenges arise related to the differences/disparity in corporate social responsibility(CSR) practices between countries (Chandler Werther Jr., 2014; Cruz, 2013). Globalizationhas increased companies need to consider the importance and strategic value of CSR (Chandler Werther Jr., 2014; Cruz, 2013). At the forefront of international CSR issues, is the consumer demand for ethically managed supply chains. Cruz (2013) stated that poor CSR performance, at any stage of the supply chain process, may damage a company s most important asset its reputation (p. 3995). Based upon a case study on the outsourcing of production activities by Apple Inc. to the controversial contract manufacturer Foxconn, this paper will discuss whether or not firms have responsibility for the supply chains they choose to utilize. The paper will also highlight some of the advantages and disadvantages of Apple s outsourcing decision, along with cost benefit analysis of such decision. Supply Chain Responsibility As companies increase their global presence through the outsourcing of manufacturing activities, the question of Who is responsible for ensuring the supply ... • 3. The Aims and the Results of the Attempts by the Nazi... The Aims and the Results of the Attempts by the Nazi Regime to Transform German Society When the Nazis came to power in 1933 they began to introduce a set of ideas into the German society. These ideas were based on the Nazi ideology, which had been outlined by Hitler in his book Mein Kampf or My Struggle a few years earlier. This essay will examine the Nazis attempts to integrate their ideological beliefs about youth and about women into the German society. The essay will also assess the success of this integration. The Nazis had a number of different aims for the youth and therefore their education needed to be suitable. The Nazis overall aim was to create a generation of racially pure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall the Nazis aimed to concentrate a large majority of their resources on the conversion of the youth to Nazi ideology. This was a key aim because the Nazis saw the youth as the future of Germany and they wanted to have an influence over this generation. Another major aim for the Nazis was the creation of a national racial community. This idea was known as the Volksgemeinschaft and was central to the Nazi view of the future. It wasn t only through youth groups that the youth were indoctrinated to the Nazi regime. The education system was also completely geared to spreading the Nazi party propaganda. For example the curriculum was designed around the Nazi ideology. Geography taught the boys map skills and other skills that would be critical during a war. History taught the Nazi version of History, which was a contrived version of events, which blamed the Jews for all of Germany s problems in the past. Even subjects such as Maths were used by the Nazis to further their cause with lesson concentrating on the angles of ballistics and other such material. The Nazi views towards women were also presented in the educational system with a girls education being divided into a number of different lessons each one of which encouraged a life at home. Examples of these lessons include Hauswirtschaft. This involved domestic science, cooking, house and garden ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Union of Norway and Sweeden The dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden was carried out by the Norwegian parliament under the House of Bernadotte on 7 June 1905. After some months of tension and fear of war between the two neighbouring nations, negotiations between the two governments led to Norway s recognition by Sweden as an independent constitutional monarchy on 26 October 1905 Norwegian nationalistic aspirations in 1814 were frustrated by Sweden s victory in a brief war that resulted in Norway entering into a personal union with Sweden. The Norwegian constitution was largely kept untouched, allowing for an independent Norwegian state with its own parliament, judiciary, and executive powers. Over the years, a divergence of Norwegian and Swedish interests became apparent. When free trade between the countries was restricted in 1895 through the abolition of the interstate laws , the economic reasons for the continued union were also diminished. In early 1905, Christian Michelsen formed a coalition government consisting of liberals and conservatives, whose only stated objective was to establish a separate Norwegian corps of consuls. The law was passed by the Norwegian parliament. On 7 June 1905, the Storting voted to dissolve the union with Sweden because Oscar had effectively abandoned his role as King of Norway by refusing to appoint a replacement government. 7 June is considered independence day for Norway. The Swedish government considered this declaration as rebellious, and they ... Why Do People Behave The Way They Do n A leaders guide to why people behave the way they do , Clawson points leaders who want to increase their effectiveness at leading through influence to the need to be able to dig deep below the surface of the observable everyday human behaviour in order to understand why people behave the way they do. Clawson argues that it is by paying attention to the human side of individuals people s Values, Attitudes, Beliefs and Expectations (VABEs) which together shape behaviour that gives leaders insights into people s motivations. As VABEs are deeply ingrained and shaped through a combination of our genetic makeup, the experience of how we were nurtured and the beliefs and values that we have picked along life s journey, understanding where ... They have been competing in the soft drink sector for over a century and both companies enjoy a high degree of brand consciousness globally. Both companies try to market as part of a lifestyle. Coca Cola uses phrases such as Coke side of life in their website, while Pepsi uses phrases such as Hot stuff in their web, to promote the idea that Pepsi is in sync with the cool side of life. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Pepsi s dividend payout ratio is slightly lower than Coca Cola s, the difference is marginal. (Finance) The Dividend Payout Ratio means the percentage of earnings paid to shareholders in dividends. The payout ratio provides an idea of how well earnings support the dividend payments. More mature companies tend to have a higher payout ratio. This ratio is calculated as Dividends per share / Earnings per share. The Dividend payout ratio for Coca Cola is 48.2% while PepsiCo is 34.8% The price/earnings ratio (P/E) is the best known of the investment valuation indicators. It is the measure of the share price relative to the annual net income earned by the firm per share. The P/E ratio has its imperfections, but it is nevertheless the most widely reported and used valuation by investment professionals and the investing public. The financial reporting of both companies and investment research services use a basic earnings per share (EPS) figure divided into the current stock price to calculate the P/E multiple (i.e. how many times a stock is trading (its price) per each dollar of EPS). A high PE ratio generally indicates increased demand because investors anticipate earnings growth in the future. The PE ratio has units of years, which can be interpreted as the number of years of earnings to pay back purchase price. The price/earnings ratio for Coca Cola is 12.97 while PepsiCo is 16.24. • 7. The Potential Of Fiji s Export Industry INTRODUCTION Fiji is categorized as one of the five Pacific Island countries (PICs) with the others being Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. After attaining her independence, Fiji concentrated on her agricultural sector, specifically, sugar cane production and exportation. At the same time, the successive governments adopted an import substitution policy but later on, after the IMF intervention, she pursued an export led economic growth policy (Gani Prasad, 2007). She started diversifying her export basket to not only include agricultural products such as sugar cane but other products such as gold. Gradually, the service industry overtook the traditional export industry, to become the highest export earner for Fiji (Narayan, 2000). This industry was consisted mainly of tourist arrivals. In this report, Fiji s export industry is covered comprehensively and within the limited resources available at the time of writing. The core goal of the report is determining the potential of Fiji s Export industry. In particular, the agricultural and services industry is reviewed. Linear programming model of total return from aggregate exports is used. This is done with the core aim of finding out what is limiting the growth of Fiji s export industry and the best way to lessen the drastic changes in the export returns from year to year. • 8. Historical Analysis Of Virginian Resolutions On The Stamp... Historical Analysis of Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act (1765) The Stamp Act that was passed by Parliament in 1765 caused the first major split between England and the American Colonies. Great Britain had incurred a large loss due to the outcome of the Seven Years war. Parliament decided to raise taxes directly through the colonists instead of doing it through the usual regulation of trade. The Stamp Act required all printed material in the colonies to require a stamp bought from the authorities. The colonists felt this was extremely unconstitutional, against their liberties and their rights. In 1765, this motivated the Virginia s House of Burgesses orator, Patrick Henry, to write a document titled Virginia Resolutions on the Stamp Act . In this document Henry wrote seven resolutions to Virginia s House of Burgesses regarding the Stamp Act, but only four were approved; the rest were deemed too radical. Regardless of how many resolutions were approved, all seven were reprinted in the colonial newspapers, which is important for the intention of the document, because it will be what the colonists read. This paper will analyze the document and argue why the Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act started to fuel the fire behind the revolution. The Virginian Resolutions on the Stamp Act embodied the ideas of the colonies that led the start of the American Revolution because it caused merchants in the colonies to boycott British goods, it also reminded the colonists that ... • 9. C-Arm Fluoroscopy The purpose of this assignment is to find a topic in patient care that is significant in patient care in radiography. Then review and summarize an article pertaining to this topic that was selected. Then it will be connected to how it is valuable it is as a future radiographer and to professionals and how it is relevant. The topic that will be discussed is the effect on radiation exposure in pediatric patients with c arm fluoroscopy. This is because one of the most common radiographic procedures for pediatric patients is fluoroscopy and it is important to lower their radiation dose as much as possible. C arm is known to have high amounts of radiation to the patient and if a patient is exposed to radiation it increases their risk for problems... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the class, it has been stressed that there is an importance to lower the radiation dose to the patient. It is important to lower the dose of radiation because it reduces the chance of radiation induced complications. It is the one of the priorities of a radiographer to reduce the radiation dose to the patient. This article was informative of another way to reduce the dose to the patient. Radiation dose for all patients should be reduced as much as possible because radiation does have harmful effects and should be limited throughout a year. The project was done to determine if having a laser targeting system would decrease the radiation dose by eliminating unintentional radiation prior to localizing the region of interest (Schenk Johnston p. 39). The idea behind laser targeting was to limit and reduce the time it took to do the procedure, by reducing time exposed to radiation it lowers the dose to the patient. The laser aids the technologist in properly aligning the c arm in the desired position without exposing the patient to radiation (Schenk Johnston p. 42). Before the radiation dose was higher because the part of interest was located while radiation was occurring. Now to know that the laser can locate the part of interest before exposing the patient to radiation will help allow me to reduce patient dose if there is a laser with that particular fluoroscopic machine. Even though this experiment was done using pediatric patients, it is relevant information for adult patients as well because it is important to lower radiation dose regardless of age. This information will be helpful in the future because fluoroscopy is a common procedure and if there is a laser available on the machine, it should be utilized so radiographers and students can help reduce the radiation dose to that patient especially, now that it was found to have some effect on ... • 10. Morality And Technology And The Presence Of Technology When young children read the well known fable in class, they are unaware that the story has a moral. It has a lesson that the adults attempt to instill in them at the very beginning stages of their lives. These lessons teach morality and begin to introduce certain values to children. In this way, every person develops values throughout his/her life that are impacted by his or her environment, biology and social constructs. Through these values, moralityis developed and because each person has his or her own unique values, morality is based upon the individual. All organisms have evolved throughout their existence on Earth, but interestingly, humans are the only species that apply morals to their lives. Morality and technology are manmade inventions. Morality relies on evolution and the presence of technology. In the essay Nonmoral Nature, Stephen Jay Gould uses examples of acts of survival that insects commit in order to ensure their survival. However, because their instinctual acts of survival are viewed as grotesque, these acts seem immoral to humans. Gould stated, If nature is nonmoral, then evolution cannot teach any ethical theory at all (1211). This statement refers to the idea that the sacrificing of the caterpillars and spiders is an act of survival. Animals and insects commit acts in nature and in their environment because they do what is essential to survive. The animals and insects do not stop to think about whether what they are doing would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Apple Story The Apple Story Prepared By: Brian Klochko Prepared For: Dr. Dov Longu Submission Date: Monday, February 24th 2014 Once solely regarded as a common handheld fruit, two unlikely visionaries changed the meaning of Apple forever. The corporate conglomerate that now manufactures and sells various electronic products such as computers, cell phones, tablets, music players, and computer accessories was once merely an idea two college dropouts had dreamt in their own garage. Apple stock currently trades at $544.45 (as of February 14th, 2014), with a net worth estimated at over $500 billion (Forbes) 4. Although he may have been right, Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985. Without Steve Jobs, Apple started to trend down, and he rejoined the company in 1997 with a vision to bring it back to the top. He released a think different ad campaign, featuring pictures of Albert Einstein, John Lennon, and Thomas Edison that had one goal, to let people know the company still had a pulse. As copywriter Rob Siltanen said, it got the Apple faithful stirred up, it got the fence sitters back on board, and it got an audience that was lukewarm on Apple to think about the brand in a whole new way. (CBC)4 Jobs had many visions and marketing schemes, but his two main philosophies are summarized by the following: to follow the principles of human engineering to build friendly products whose simplicity and ease of use make them natural extensions of their owners, and to create a worldwide customer service organization to service retailers, distributors, and technical support centers, unmatched in the industry. (Elliot)1 Of course Jobs had his shortcomings, as already mentioned, but his prowess for marketing and visions for building companies could not be denied. Once he had an idea in mind, he would not stop until it was done, meanwhile pushing not only his employees/co workers but also himself to ensure the best product was put forth for the consumer. • 12. American Hustle Movie Analysis The Art of Survival I ve always had a particular fondness for movies that made me think. I love long, drawn out movie scripts that include lots of plot twists, where the movies intent and message is not always clear right up front. This particular reason is why I chose to evaluate the movie American Hustle. I really enjoy watching this movie because of the overall story, the characters, and the actors that were cast in this production. The movie, American Hustle, is a comedy drama that is loosely based on the real life FBI sting, called ABSCAM, that took place in the late 1970 s and early 1980 s. The movie centers around two con artist named Irving Rosenfeld, played by Christian Bale, and Sydney Prosser, played by Amy Adams,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My favorites were Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro. The transformation that Bale put himself through in order to play this role was incredible. He has a history of gaining and losing weight for various roles but I had never actually seen this for myself until I watched this movie. Bale gained 43 pounds, shaved his head to produce a realistic comb over, and changed his posture by slouching which shortened his height by 3 inches and resulted in a herniated disc. Jennifer Lawrence was very good in this film. I love how she can immerse herself into any character, bring them to life, and still have pieces of her own personality shine through. Even though Robert De Niro s part in this movie was practically nonexistent, he still made a lasting impression on me. He played the part of a legendary mob boss and casino owner named Victor Tellegio. I felt this character fit De Niro so well because he has this serious demeanor and at times can look very intimidating. In his scene, De Niro is sitting down at a pool table with the sheikh and a couple of other mob bosses as well as Bradley Coopers character, and he attempts to talk to the sheikh in English. Coopers character, Richie DiMaso, informs Victor Tellegio that the Sheikh only speaks Arabic and, unbeknownst to anyone else at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Short Summary Of Guy Fawkes Night In 2027 the United Kingdom is ruled as a fascist police state and a man who calls himself V was being experimented on by the government at a concentration camp called Larkhill. On November 5, 2027 V escaped from Larkhill by creating a bomb, blowing up the building, and killing most of his fellow inmates and his captors. Four years later, V starts to plan to get his revenge on the government. Around the same time, Evey Hammond, an employee at the British Television Network, breaks curfew while on her way to visit a friend, when Fingermen, the secret police, catch her and attempt to sexually assault her. V rescues her and takes her to a rooftop, where they watch the first step of V s plan: blowing up the Old Bailey. The next day, V interrupts a broadcast and encourages the people of Britain to revolt and meet him outside of the Houses of Parliament on next year s Guy Fawkes Night (November 5th). The police search the building for V and almost catch him, when Evey pepper sprays the police officer; after she pepper sprays the police, she is knocked unconscious. V must decide whether he leaves her to be tried for treason or he rescues her, as she did him. However, the rescue comes with a price, Evey must stay in his home for one year until the government is overthrown. Over the year, Evey s loyalty is tested, the people of Britain turn against the government, and V prepares for his grand finale: Blowing up the Houses of Parliament. • 16. The Effect Of Substrate Concentration On Activity Of Catalase The purpose of this experiment was to analyze the effects of substrate concentration and temperature on activity of catalase. The activity was measured by observing the amount of time it took for 10 mL of oxygen to evolve as an outcome of the catalyzed breakdown of hydrogen peroxide. Increased temperature and substrate concentration will both effect the activity of a catalase enzyme. We used 4 different temperatures of an enzyme, as well as a variety of scientific materials. The results of this experiment confirmed the hypothesis that was tested. Introduction: A catalase is an enzyme that is typically found in all living organisms that are exposed to oxygen. A catalase catalyzes the decompositions of hydrogen peroxide to hydrogen and water. Catalase are categorized as tetramers because they are polymers consisting of four monomer units. The complex structure of the catalase tetramer as well as the hydrophobic nature of heme and its potential in generating reactive oxygen species indicate the need for tightly controlled and assisted assembly of catalase (Baureder). They are much different from the peroxidases, with considerable pleated sheet structure, and usually with a bound NADPH molecule (Dunford 12). Enzymes are important because they protect the cell from oxidative damage by reactive oxygen species. Catalase levels help to define the oxidative state of cells (Terlecky). Change was not predicted to occur if there was no catalase present. Although, the higher the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Why The Price Of Crude Oil This essay will explain why the price of crude oil has fallen so dramatically. Also, it will analyse the impact the fall in the price will have on major oil producing nations. Moreover, it will explore the effect that the fall in price will have on major oil companies and their supply companies. Finally, it will present how the fall in oil price might affect consumers in the European Union. Crude oil is the one of the most important natural resource of the industrialised nations, which could generate heat, drive machinery and fuel vehicles and airplanes (years, someone). Moreover, the crude oil components are used to manufacture almost all chemical products, such as plastic, detergents, paints and medicines (years, someone). Also, it plays a significant role in expanding technical ability to discover new sources and extending the production lives of existing oil fields. Therefore, constant changes in the price of the crude oil have an impact on a global economy (years, someone). According to Bolton (2014), the oil price reaches the highest price of almost $150 a barrel in July 2008 and felt in the second half of 2008 as the global financial crisis started. There are a many reasons why the price were so high until the first half of 2008. Since 2002, the high demand for fuels in rapidly developing countries, such as China and India increased. • 18. A Study On A Patient On The Room Out Of The Window Another Patient Jumped Out Of the Window. I put down the newspaper and uneasily glanced at the patient resting by my side for whose comfort I was responsible. It was the winter of my junior year, my second week working in a state controlled Chinese hospital. On the first day, without going through any training, I met Yuping, a sixty year old pancreas cancer victim and also a mother of six. Estranged from her family due to high medical expenditure, none of her children had shown up in days; I filled their roles. I fed her, took her out for some fresh air and tried to chat with her, but she rarely talked. She spent her time staring at the plain ceiling and listening the anxious voices from the hallway. Sitting at her bedside and thinking about that disturbing news headline, I began to experience a sense of desperation. I was sickened by the emotional neglect that Yuping experienced, but no matter how I tried, I could not reach into the heart of this suffering lady. This was the dark side of medicine that I had never seen before. Right then, I questioned myself, Do I really want to be a doctor? At the beginning of my college career, this was not even a question that I thought I would ask myself. Fascinated by the endless possibility provided by programming skill and the beauty of numbers, I majored in Computer Science and Math. And I greatly enjoy the intellectual challenges posed by both fields. It was not until joining Dr. YYY s lab in the summer of my sophomore year, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. What Is The Theme Of Freedom In Lord Of The Flies In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Golding is conveying that when there is no jurisdiction over humans, things are bound to get out of hand. Freedom has no limits and gives many options for one without chains binding and restricting their every movement. Golding shows us that humans are likely to change when there is no authority over them. Firstly, without knowing that there are regulations or rules, anyone is known to think that they can do whatever they want. They believe that all their wrongdoings will be bypassed. Secondly, the eventual loss of order in the boys leads them to separate paths and different tribes. Without a guardian figure guiding them and keeping together, some individuals believe they can live on their own. Thirdly, humans are savage by nature and may go back to their roots when the body thinks it needs to. There are several ways in which Golding illustrates the change in the behaviours of the boys with their new found freedom; however, the most significant thing is how they now act as people in general on the island. First and foremost, when children are unsupervised, they tend to think that they can do anything because they will not receive any inconvenience. For example, the British Naval Officer on shore states that I should have thought that a pack of British boys would have been able to put up a better show than that (page 202). This statement from the Officer illustrates that without an adult figure on the island, the boys became mad and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people know what crucifixion looks like, but what most don t consider is how it must feel to have nails driven through your limbs. We all recognize the iconic image of Jesus on the cross, but it s wrong to assume that all crucifixions were executed in the often depicted upright position. According to Senior Reporter Esther Inglis Arkell, people could be crucified upside down, sideways along the arms of the cross, or in any other way, shape, or form the emperors saw fit. Instead of nailing hands to the cross, it was more commonplace and more favorable to nail the wrists. This meant more stability, and a longer time upright. However, this would also mean the possibility of cutting a major artery, which would ve caused exsanguination. It s likely the people carrying out the crucifixion would ve been trained to avoid this, as the point of this method of torture is to delay the death of the victim for as long as possible. The most common cause of death resulting from crucifixion has been concluded to be suffocation. The body exhausts itself to the point where it can no longer physically inhale. It d resemble drowning without water. However, this could only happen if the victim in question did not first die of exposure. Weather, scavenger animals such as rats, and even Roman citizens could contribute to the death. Keep in mind, all this physical pain would occur alongside the slow mental deterioration the victim would likely experience due to the cruel and public nature of the ... These articles stood out, because while given a similar topic (lesbians) they both possessed very different, yet similar arguments. I found this interesting because it is a prime example of societies different views on controversial topics. Cheryl and June s articles contain many differences, similarities and information to be reflected on. Cheryl s main arguments are that everyone who loves women (whether its romantically, sexually, platonically, etc.) is a feminist and lesbians are all part of a rebellion. She states, No matter how a woman lives out her lesbianism she has rebelled against becoming the slave master s concubine, viz., the male dependent female, the female heterosexual. This gives evidence towards her argument that lesbians, regardless their intentions are resisting from the constructs that society wants them to adhere to. June would disagree with this statement, arguing that lesbians aren t solely out to rebel but are just pursuing their lives freely. Cheryl also points out that there is no one sort of lesbian and that whether you consider yourself a full blown lesbian or bisexual it doesn t change the fact that you are resisting against the heterosexual society. This being true, Cheryl Clarke also disagrees with the idea of bisexuality; whereas June Jordan identifies as bisexual. Following along with this Cheryl ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Civil War began in 1861, two years before the groundbreaking to start the transcontinental railroad and one year before the Great Railroad Act of 1862. The construction on the transcontinental railroad was finished in 1869, four years after the end of the Civil War and six years after the groundbreaking (Howard 126 143; website). Then, we need to either change those social policies or get rid of them completely. Rothstein focuses mainly on housing policies, which segregated African Americans from whites. Those social policies did not only constraint African Americans from buying a house in neighborhoods predominantly white, but it limited their accessibility to other important resources and services such as employment and education. This is very similar to today s racial inequalities. According to Rohstein, ... St. Louis was segregated by interlocking and racially explicit public policies of zoning, public housing, and suburban finance, and by publicly endorsed segregation policies of the real estate, banking, and insurance industries (30). Real estate agents and banks contributed to this segregation between whites and African Americans. They were afraid of change. They were afraid that the social structure that placed them above blacks was going to crumble, leaving them at the mercy of people who they ve kept down for so long. Most of all, Melba learned they were afraid that once blacks started going to the same school as their children, they may begin to date, marry and make families with their children. The two individuals who did the most to help Melba survive while she was inside Central High School were Danny and Link. This argument basis itself on the idea that everything in existence has a cause to it s existence, Stephen Law gives the example that our parents are our direct cause. This chordophone, with such a diverse sound, has been showcased in our favorite songs and bands for decades. As familiar as we are with the sound, how familiar are we the history, manufacturers, artists, composers, and its popularity in a traditional orchestra? First, I will discuss the history of the guitar; when it started, the miraculous evolution, and the manufacturers that took the industry by storm. Although there are many theories, the history is hazy as to exactly where the first known guitar came from prior to the 16th century. According to the book A Concise History of the Classic Guitar by Wade Graham, Hittite stone carvings in Turkey; dated 1300 BC, eludes to the possibility of a similar instrument, as well as mentions in the old testament of long necked lutes in Mesopotamia. History becomes a lot clearer around the 16th century, when printed literature became available. According to acousticmusic the Baroque period is when the guitar really began to gain popularity, and was commonly used to accompany vocalists. People make mistakes, but the maturity level of a person is determined by whether or not the person takes responsibility for their errors. The short story The Man Who Was Almost a Man by Richard Wright and the lyric poem Forgive My Guiltby Robert Coffin both fixate on young boys who wrongly take the lives of creatures with a weapon. The short storyand the lyric poem share a common theme regarding the significance of early life experiences to the maturation process as seen in the way the main characters react to their mistakes. Dave in The Man Who was Almost a Man runs away from his problems while the narrator in Forgive My Guilt holds himself accountable for his action and feels guilty. In the short story, The Man Who Was Almost a Man, Richard Wright uses colloquial language to develop the theme. For instance, in the scene where Dave is accused of killing the mule, the difference in speech used by Dave, a black sharecropper, and Jim Hawkins, his white employer, is evident. Jim Hawkins uses a more formal language when talking to Dave: Well, looks like you have you a mule, Dave (5). In stark contrast, Dave responds using a more informal way of speaking: Ah swear fo Gawd, Ah didn t go t kill the mule, Mistah Hawkins (5).
