Regional Alignment Definition
Army Regional Alignment of Forces (RAF) Being at war for the last 14 years the Army now finds it
has the best trained and the most combat experienced force in its history. However, the intense focus
on a relatively small number of mission sets such as irregular warfare detracts resources for the other
missions required by Geographic Combatant Commander (GCC). To address this shortfall, the Chief
of Staff of the Army General Ray Odierno directed implementation of the Regional Alignment of
Forces (RAF) concept as means to address Combatant Command s (CCMD) requirements. Regional
alignment of Army units provides the GCC assigned units for a dedicated period , capable of
executing myriad of specified missions as outlined in their Lines of Effort ... Show more content on

Mission focus creates excellent training opportunities and allows the Soldiers to perform their duties
much like they did while deployed. For example, the Geospatial Imagery analysts 35G conduct Live
Environment Training (LET) at their home station where they process targets allocated off the ASCC
target deck. Daily the Soldiers work their targets and pass the information back to the Theater
Intelligence Brigade (TIB). The theater Geospatial Planning Cell (GPC) do much of the same, now
utilize the division and brigade Geospatial Analysts 12Y to update the theater geospatial database. The
LET relationship provides the ASCC additional manpower to work lower priority requirements while
providing training opportunities to the units. Soldiers spend more time doing their job and less time

East Of Eden Character Analysis
Throughout an individual s life they are shaped and molded by their surroundings. Whether that is by
their parents, or another individual it will greatly impact the rest of their life. In the novel East of Eden
by John Steinbeck their are two major families, the Trask family and the Hamilton family. Samuel
Hamilton, an Irish Immigrant, father of nine, and husband to Liza Hamilton meets the Trask family
when Adam Trask would need help with an irrigation system for his new farm, when he moved to the
Saliana Valleys during the Homestead Act. Samuel Hamilton becomes very close with the Trask
family during this time, and even birth Adam and Cathy s twins, Cal and Aron. After Cathy gives birth
her haywire side comes out, and she shots Adam in the shoulder and runs away from him, changing
her name to Kate and working for Fayes brothel. After Adam recovers from being shot he tries to
cover up for Cathy, but the sheriff does not believe him, saying that he knows Cathy shot him. The
sheriff then goes to Cathy and tells her as long as she stays away from Adam and the twins, nothing
else will happen. Adam recovers physically, but not emotionally, becoming very depressed and his
care for the twins starts to diminish. Samuel Hamilton, and Lee the housekeeper for the Trask family
and a Chinese emigrant, both step up and take huge parts in raising the twins. Adam s, Samuel s, and
Lee s migration all affect the upbringing and the future of the twins in the Novel, East of Eden. The

Sexual Intercourse Within The Human Species
Introduction Sexual intercourse is an intriguing, yet touchy subject to most individuals. There are
nearly as many different beliefs in regards to the act of sex as there are for something as prominent
and controversial as religion. It is a topic that the majority of individuals do not want to discuss, yet it
is something that the majority of everyone is intrigued about. Throughout this research paper we will
take a closer look at sexual intercourse within the human species by attempting to define what sex is,
find out who partakes in this deed, determine when it is typically done, and finally reveal why it is
done.
What Is Sex? While the title begins with the pronoun who, not the pronoun what, it will be much

All of these communications assume that the speakers and listeners share a definition of sex that is
clear, consistent across situations, and unbiased by personal motives. In fact, there is limited research
evaluating individuals definitions of sex, and the research that does exist seems based on implicit
assumptions that may be problematic in some ways. (Peterson Muehlenhard, 2007, p. 256 268)
This statement is implying that they back the notion that the definition of sex is still unknown; one
hundred different individuals would give you one hundred different definitions of the enigmatic term
sex . Additionally, this confusion is established in an article by Judith Mackay (2011) when she states
that sex research, where it exists, is usually fertility related rather than sex oriented. Even definitions
vary. There is no agreed definition of sex counseling, obscenity, or even what people mean by the term
sex, all making comparable analysis difficult. But there is no way that we could go any further into
this research without establishing a set definition, so the misperception must end now. For the sake of
this research paper, sex will be defined as any vaginal, anal, or oral intercourse between two or more
individuals. These three different forms of sex are often involved in sexual intercourse, but these terms
can be ambiguous to many customary individuals. Each of these different forms of sex varies from
one another, all offering something

While there are many stakeholders who care about the financial situation of associated companies, like
suppliers, customers, or creditors, the main addressees of business valuation are strategic investors
who want to buy a significant stake in a company, as well as companies in the same industry that
consider merging with another firm in order to push forward vertical or horizontal integration.1 And
as a matter of fact, business valuation is by far not an easy task. There are hundreds of possible factors
adding to the equation when it comes to determining the value of a business.2 Actually, just knowing
the current value3 of an entire corporation, a factory or a certain department within an existing
enterprise, usually does for itself not help much. Rather it is actually very uncommon that the current
value of a business equals the price that s paid by investors.4 The purchase price for a company is
largely dependent on influences like the economic environment in general (boom or crisis), the
demand for one single enterprise or its products5, the situation of the current shareholders6 etc. Other
factors which can result in a difference between the value of a company and the price paid are for
example the qualification of the existing management, the extent to which the company is seen

sports stadium financing in the 1990s Essay
INTRODUCTION
The sentiment can be heard in any office break room, local tavern, or play field. The utter discontent
of the increasing cost of attending professional sporting events. Distain ranges from players salaries to
cost of parking and concessions. One local newscaster, channel 5 in Chicago, Illinois April, 2003,
reports that for a family of four to attend a major league baseball game on opening day costs between
$160 and $200 dollars.
The precursor to this cost was a decade of skyrocketing salaries and the trend to build huge public ally

Persuasive Essay On Avalanches
I love to snowmobile, and every day I go snowmobiling, I am at risk of becoming a victim of an
avalanche. I ask myself how can I be prepared and confident in the event of an avalanche? My paper
goes into depth on the physical properties and causes of an avalanche as well as the knowledge you
need to stay safe. My paper starts off with the question addressed and then some research that I have
done on the topic. Following that research, I move into the formal research section of the paper. The
research found includes different causes of avalanches, action steps to take, rescuing victims, trauma,
other winter sports safety, and where to find the best information about avalanches for beginning
learners. My paper finishes with my conclusion to about avalanches and my project. It then goes into
my future plans about avalanche research. There is more research to be done on avalanches and I plan
on using the information that I have found throughout the rest of my life.
What I Knew I was scared, and not knowing what I would ve done if I ever were to get caught in one
was even scarier. It was a cold December morning in 2013. It was around 5:00 am and all through the
night it dumped a great amount of snow in the mountains. I had been watching the forecast for a few

Concussions On The National Football League
The National Football League, more commonly known as the NFL, has had growing cases of retired
players that suffer from mental trauma or mental diseases from concussions. A concussion is a short
loss of brain function following a direct or indirect force to the head. Concussions are extremely
difficult to diagnose because the damage is seemingly invisible to the naked eye. Although the
damages may not be present, the effects are long lasting. Concussions are plaguing retired NFL
players and affecting the former athletes long term mental health. For this reason, there has been a lot
of research suggesting that the NFL is not doing enough for it s athletes to shelter their brains. They
have struggled with reporting and correctly diagnosing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Statistics show NFL players are paid $1.9 million a year on average. An injury as severe and time
consuming as a concussion can undoubtedly counteract this kind of pay. Professional athletes do not
want to jeopardize sitting out a game and missing their opportunity, [t]he return to play decision is
based on symptoms, and the problem is the players all want to get back yesterday and the question is
whether they are being truthful and honest during their evaluations, Stieg said (Futterman). There is
nothing doctors or trainers can do if the athlete lies about being symptom free. They can suspect the
severity of the concussion by just observing the athlete s behavioral response toward certain things,
like light or noise. As a result, early identification is extremely beneficial to accurately examine
damages to the brain because it leads to degenerative diseases. These diseases are hard to catch if
symptoms are not shown in the athlete right away. The NFL has to adopt better protocol to diagnose
concussions based on medical data instead of assessing by judgment (Futterman). A more scientific
approach is being studied that can diagnose concussions faster and more accurately. By using a simple
blood test after six hours of forceful impact, the test can display brain cells that have broken down
succeeding the impact. By exercising such a test, it can rid the uncertainty of when it is safe to get an
athlete back on the field without triggering further cognitive damages.

Alternative Rock Music
Music junkies, concert connoisseurs, and vinyl vigilantes everywhere need to know about the
similarities and differences between the alternative rock and indie rock genres. The genres alternative
and indie are terms sometimes used interchangeably, but their origins are indeed differing. There has
been a varying progression of media platforms used to listen to these genres among the past few
decades due to society s social and economic changes. In terms of instrumental progressions and
technological buildups in the music world, the instruments and stylings used to define these genres has
changed as well. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, alternative rock is defined as a style of
rock music characterized as unconventional, or outside the mainstream which resonated powerfully
with a generation weathering an economic recession. Conversely, Oxford explains the term indie as
the deliberately unpolished or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would choose to define alternative rock as music that has heavy metal influenced rhythms, with the
use of electric guitars and bass drums, but conveys a lighter, upbeat feel, and uses meaningful lyrics.
Alternative rock emerged in the late 80 s and early 90 s when the United States was facing an
economic recession and in a post war state. The songs alternative rock artists wrote during this time
tended to be more melancholy in sound, and carry out the use of lyrics about the struggles society as a
whole, and the artists as individuals were facing due to this social and economic decline. These lyrics
were relatable for listeners and adequately helped them cope with the strife. These artists, more often
than note were signed by more widely known record labels. Examples of these bands include, but are
not limited to, Radiohead, Sonic Boom, Cage The Elephant, Pearl Jam, Jane s Addiction, and

What to Do After Graduation in Major in Success by Patrick...
There is a majority of university students worldwide who have something in common: they have no
idea what they will do after they graduate. Some students may have several ideas came out, but they
never make them come true. There are plenty of people who have difficulty to know what they are
passionate in, and even they can do but most never have the extraordinary drive necessary to go for
their dreams. At this difficult time, there is a book walked to me, Major in Success written by Patrick
Combs, which is a book that is to help people find their true dream job and become successful, and
also it helped me find the true purpose of studying in university. This book pointed out that doing what
you enjoy propels you to success . It means doing what you enjoy is the core to find your dream job. If
one has a job that pays well but he never get happiness from it, and instead of fears, tears and no
cheers. He also brings their fears from work to their lives and families and makes these people who
are outside of his job feel sad and then, that will destroy a big and happy environment. This book tells
people how to make their dreams come true. People who follow their dreams are the meaning of living
in the world and the way to get happiness. And everyone has this ability to achieve this goal; what
they need to do is only to possess extraordinary drive. From the book, the author says repeatedly that
when people get graduated, no one cares about your GPA. Patrick Combs said that

Fa Mu Lan, Brave Orchid
The Women Warriors
Warriors come in all shapes and sizes, including Chinese women. Growing up in America, Maxine
Hong Kingston does not know what kind of Chinese girl to be. She is conditioned to expect to be a
wife or a slave, but she dreams of the warrior she knows she could be. The warrior motif is an
extremely important part of Hong Kingston s memoir, referring as it does to Fa Mu Lan, Brave
Orchid, and Hong Kingston, herself. All three of these women display their inner warrior by defying
the traditional cultures of what is expected of Chinese women.
Fa Mu Lan is a genuine woman warrior because she proves that Chinese women can be capable, and
at the same time, fulfill the duties of a traditional Chinese woman. Hong Kingston is careful to point
out that Fa Mu Lan is a warrior and a woman, not one or the other. By becoming a war hero, Fa Mu
Lan has not given up being a woman. She put[s] on [her] men s clothes and armor ... Show more

As a little girl, Hong Kingston has trouble speaking, but throughout the book, she eventually finds her
voice. This is most apparent when she is finally able to stand up to her mother and declare her list.
Hong Kingston writes that once she started speaking, the words kept pouring out (200). Not only does
Hong Kingston have an epiphany regarding her power of speech, but she also proves that she will not
grow up only to be a wife or slave, she too is a warrior. Also, Hong Kingston uses her power with
words to write her book, The Woman Warrior. Through selectively compiling stories, Hong Kingston
has the power to choose which stories define her. She can write her own story differently, to give a
different spin on it, and to remember it as she wishes it were, like she did with Fa Mu Lan. In
conclusion, Hong Kingston realizes, as much as longs to be a ferocious warrior, she conscious that her
true power is in her

The Importance Of Reading Young Adult Literature
Currently, there is a debate about whether or not adults should be reading young adult (YA) literature.
Some on the side for adults reading young adult literature highlight the benefits of adults reading YA
literature; specifically reading it in order to relate to feelings they had as a young adult. This ability to
relate to YA literature in a personal manner could be very useful to teachers who work with young
adults. Teachers can use their findings from the YA novels to further empathize with their students,
learn how to integrate these YA novels into their curriculum to make it easier for students to
understand, and learn to understand and help students coping with some sort of emotional trauma that
may affect their learning. In the classroom, it is highly important that a teacher be able to empathize
with and relate to their students. A teacher with a good understanding of the thought processes and
emotions of their students often have an easier time relaying information to them (Sylwester 1994).
One way that teachers could learn to relate and empathize with their students is by reading YA novels.
YA novels are written to be understood and related to by young adults, but anyone who has lived
through adolescence should be able to find a YA novel they can relate their life to. The ability for
teachers to read these books and relate to them can in turn help them reconnect with the thought
processes they had in their formative years. Being able to remember and relate

Human Identification
Introduction:
Human identification is one of the most challenging subjects that forensic experts have came across.
Identity is a set of physical characteristics, or a functional or psychic, normal or pathological, that
define an individual.1 Scientific identification of human remains might be accomplished by
fingerprint, dental, anthropological, genetic or radiological examinations.2,3 When it is not possible to
apply the scientific method of fingerprint identification, it demands a forensic medicine investigation
like radiological investigations. The skill process, carried out by using knowledge of other
professional areas, characterizes the medicolegal identification and is based on the application of
knowledge of forensic anthropology.1 Radiological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Management Of Mental Health Disorders
Psychiatry and psychology work together in treating and diagnosing mental disorders. Mental illness
include abnormalities in the emotional, mental, and behavioral areas of an individual s life. Mental
disorders are diagnosed by the outlined criteria, in approved diagnostic manuals. The management of
mental health disorders involves a combination therapy of drugs and psychotherapy such as
electroconvulsive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy as well as others, depending on the disease.
The treatment can be outpatient or inpatient depending on the disease severity. Some patients or their
family may question the effect of the treatment they receive, like medicine, because of the constant
change of therapy plans and modifications in prescription. Although some treatments have been
questioned on their effectiveness, psychotherapy has a positive outcome in patients.
There is much thought around psychiatry with people questioning the efficiency of the psychiatric
treatment and others arguing that mental disorders do not exist. Individuals with anti psychiatric views
claim that the treatments that are used for mental illnesses are ineffective, unsafe, unnecessary, and are
not any helpful to the patients. Questions have arisen that psychiatry hand out medicine freely and that
certain measures used in the treatment of mental illnesses like lobotomy, an operation that disconnects
connections in the front of the brain, and electro convulsion that send electric currents to create

Standardization in the 1920s Essay
The 1920s became known as an era memorable for being a time when new products, new ways of
marketing and advertising, and standardization gave the country new ways to interact, enjoy
themselves, and introduce them to new products. Although very common today, standardization of
mass culture like magazines, radio, movies, music, and sports were exciting new innovations to the
people of this time. Not only did they distract from the monotony and stresses of work but they
created celebrities that people aspired to be like. Similar to businesses standardizing in making and
advertising consumers goods, the practice of mass producing culture standardized and sped up in the
1920s. Radio became a national obsession. What started out as only a few ... Show more content on

Magazines flourished. One in particular was Reader?s Digest which presented condensed pieces of
writing formerly published elsewhere. Book publishers not only sold books though bookstores but in
departments stores or through the Book of the Month Club and the Literary Guild. Jazz was a new
type of music that took the country by storm spreading by live performances, phonograph records, and
the radio. During this time the work environment of many businesses changed drastically. Businesses
began using assembly lines to speed up production and gave employees repetitive tasks to do all day
long. However, workers were getting treated a lot better. In addition to cafeterias and other employee
associations, workers were getting paid more which allowed them to have extra money to put back
into leisure time activates. Many used the time they weren?t at work to seek fulfillment in what they
lack in the workplace. Because workers were not allowed to interact with each other, the time spent
out of work was used as time to socialize with others. Celebrities became idols in American society as
a result of media promotion. Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb were both glorified as outstanding baseball
players. Although Ruth was a heavy drinking womanizer and Cobb an ill tempered racist, nicknames
like ?the Sultan of Swat? and ?the Georgia Peach? made them heroes in public eye. Charles Lindbergh

The Heart Of Blood Vessels
There are 2 primary circulatory loops in the human body which include pulmonary circulation loop
and the systemic circulation loop. The pulmonary circulation transport deoxygenated blood from the
right side of the heart to the lungs. During pulmonary circulation blood picks up oxygen and returns to
the left side of the heart. The right atrium and the right ventricle support the pulmonary circulation
loop. The systemic circulation carries highly oxygenated blood from the left side of the heart to all of
the tissues of the body. During systemic circulation it then removes wastes from body tissues and
returns deoxygenated blood to the right side of the heart. The left atrium and the left ventricle of the
heart support the systemic circulation loop.

Blood Vessels
There are three main types of blood vessels, the arteries, capillaries and veins. Blood vessels are
responsible for the blood to flow dynamically from the heart to every part of the body and then back to
a continuous cycle which takes about one minute (Tim Taylor, 2014). The size of the blood vessels
correlates with the amount of blood that passes through the vessel (Tim Taylor, 2014). The hollow
area of the blood vessel is called the lumen which can either be thin or thick depending on which
organ it flows through (Tim Taylor, 2014). A thin layer of squamous epithelium, known as
endothelium, is a thin lining in the blood vessels that allow blood cells to stay inside of the

Federal Communication Commissions
The anticipation of the Federal Communication Commissions 2014 meeting to review media

regulations were formed before the Communications Act of 1934 by its predecessor the Federal Radio
Commission. Unequivocal jurisdiction over broadcast was not granted to the federal government to
exclusively regulate broadcast but a year prior to the establishment of the FCC the Supreme Court
inferred it as explicit and prohibited the states from obstructing its authority. Title I of the 1934 Act
defines many of the FCC s powers related to broadcasting. The title states that the Act applies to all
interstate and foreign communications by wire or radio. The FCC has jurisdiction in all 50 states, the
District of Columbia, and U.S. possessions such as Puerto Rico,

James Watson Critique
Another method that scientists do when they are researching is discussing and comparing your
experiment results or models with other scientists data or even your own to confirm or contradict your
idea. For example, in section 27, Watson and Crick finished building the next double helix DNA
structure model after a long wait for the metal bases that were required in order to continue
constructing it. In section 28, they found out that the data that both he and Rosy had supported the
structure that James and Francis had built. Rosy s idea that there had to be an outside backbone and
middle bases also worked hand in hand with the double helix model. By using others already existing
data, they were able to confirm that the model was strongly supported ... Show more content on

The very first man who is mentioned, is Francis Crick. In the beginning, Watson didn t know much
about crystallography and was unable to progress faster without the knowledge, so Crick taught him
about it. All throughout the adventure, Crick and Watson were constantly jamming their heads
together, working hard towards the discovery. This included gathering data, discussing theories with,
and even building model structures. Without Francis, the discovery of the structure of DNA wouldn t
have happened as soon as it did. Another important scientist mentioned is Maurice Wilkins. In the first
place, Wilkins was who inspired Watson to study DNA. When he presented his photograph of
crystallized DNA in Naples, that is what first caught Watson s attention and drew him to the topic.
Maurice was also someone who Watson and Crick shared their information and discussed theories
with. When Watson went to Maurice s lab to tell him about Linus Pauling s incorrect paper, Maurice
showed him the copies of X ray photographs that he had copied from Rosalind Franklin. Speaking of
Rosalind, she also played an important part in the discovery. She was Maurice Wilkins assistant in the
lab, someone who Maurice had gripes about because of her moodiness and seemingly stubborn
attitude. Despite this, no one can deny that her contribution was just as necessary as the other
scientists in

Pursuing A Bachelor s Degree In Speech-Language Pathology
Colin Powell once said, There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and
learning from failure . My undergraduate career was not a typical one, I have struggled and worked for
everything I have achieved. At the end of the finish line, I have gained a Bachelor s Degree from
Molloy College in Speech Language Pathology and I am extremely proud of all the knowledge in
which I have learned throughout this time. Throughout my first 3 years of my undergraduate career, I
had an enormous amount of difficulty trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.
I attended CUNY Queensborough Community college from the Fall 2009 semester to December 2011.
After graduating with my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts, I attended CUNY City College of

Propaganda In The War
Americans have been carried through life by the use of propaganda since mere existence. The most
widespread use of propaganda is through a war. World War 1 proves this between the United States
and other countries. As the United States tried to remain neutral to the thought of war, American
Journalists appealed to Britain s technique of propaganda in joining sides. This interest outset a war
with Germany and the Triple Alliance, World War 1. In the early 1900s as the United States tried to
keep neutral and isolated from other countries ideas, Americans in the nation displayed an influence in
public opinion. For example, American Journalist George Creel, began the Kansas City Independent.
He was the head of the Committee of Public Information in 1917, created by President Woodrow
Wilson. The Committee was responsible for raising American support for the war effort ( War,
Journalism, and Propaganda ). This agency proved that even President Wilson used propaganda to
support war efforts. Another example is Peggy Hall who became the first woman accredited female
war correspondent after she survived submarine infested waters to report on the Western Front during
World War 1. ( War, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

world increased, the music industry churned into a steady stream of war related songs. For example,

(Encyclopedia Britannica). This genre was made to meet the demand; to provoke apprehensive
Americans to support the war effort, and also for recreational purposes. Motion Pictures such as The

people give tips on how to help students not go into debt so they can afford to live. If you want to go
to college but the money is a struggle consider going to a college that is more reasonable for your
budget. If you take out loans and grants and scholarships you still have a lot of money to pay. One
option you can take is going to community college (www.credit.com), community college is cheaper
than university four year colleges and you will still live in the same town you always have. Another
way to pick a college wisely is to pick a college with no college tuition. Barclay College is a college

can strike by doing something as simple as looking over your shoulder or as complicated as hacking
into websites that have your information like Facebook or Equifax. Speaking of Equifax, you might ve

George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant
An iconic figure in the world of controversial novelists, Eric Arthur Blair was known more commonly
by his pen name George Orwell. He was very outspoken and blunt about his views against the
tyrannical British rule and openly opposed its nature. One of the reasons why he was acclaimed as one
of the best writers of the era was because of his lucid prose and the other was the aptness of his work.
George Orwell wanted to target the British rule and to support the idea of a Democratic Government.
In the essay Shooting an Elephant , Orwell shows the flaw in the system and how being in power has
left him without any power to make his own decision at all. When the white man turn tyrant it is his
own freedom that he destroys (Orwell). The essay interests everyone as it points out the necessity of
democracy which has been a widely debated issue for ages. George Orwell targeted masses all over
the world through his writing because the essay was published in the magazine which was available
everywhere around the Globe. Although George Orwell uses some harsh words to describe natives
which undermine his argument however he explains his viewpoint through a mixture of persuasive
and convincing language, a well structured essay and an anti thesis approach to show that Imperialism
destroys the people and the system. In his essay, George Orwell narrates his personal experience to
reach a conclusion that when white man turns tyrant it is his own freedom that he destroys

because of persecution, war, or violence. A refugee has a well founded fear of persecution for reasons
of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group (UNHCR
US, n. d.). Statistics of UNHCR in 2015 shows 21.3 million refugees worldwide. Also, 3.2 million
asylum seekers and 40.8 million internally displaced people (IDP) are supported by United Nations in
125 countries. These higher numbers comparing to 2014 are due to the global rise of conflicts and war,
and lower support of affected individuals by their governments. The shocking number belongs to
children who constitute 51 percent of the refugee population, and 98,400 asylum seeker children who
are either separated from their parents or unaccompanied (UNHCR CA, 2016).
IDP is the people who are forced to flee their home in the hope of finding safety without crossing the

The Ottawa Light Rail Transit
The Ottawa Light Rail Transit Project
Introduction:
The roadways of Ottawa, Ontario have been become battered and congested due to the poor
infrastructure of public transit. There have been many proposed temporary short term solutions for the
issue such as toll roads, public transit route optimization and rapid road rehabilitation. But ultimately,
the plan is to implement an expansion to the Ottawa Light Rail Transit (OLRT) system and widen
Highway 417. There are many requirements in order to achieve such a task so, this report will outline
the guidelines of the procurement processes after issuing the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the
OLRT project from the City of Ottawa.
The City of Ottawa s first RFP was published October 27, 2011 [XX11]. The report stated that a
private sector team began preliminary research for the expansion of the OLRT system in September of
2010 following the approval of Federal and Provincial government funding before the initial
procurement process was issued. The project adopts a Design, Build, Finance, and Maintenance
(DBFM) model which allows multiple companies to place a bid on the RFP. With many options the
city is then open to make a choice the contract which will be reported on in the upcoming (sections).
Following the RFP, the City of Ottawa must choose a contract for the post. The RFP outlines the the
procurement process and states that the purchase of construction services must be in accordance to the

Organizational Strategy For A Successful Business
A successful business is made up of various parts so it is imperative that managers develop the right
mix of objectives and personnel if they want to have a fighting chance to survive in today s global
economy. An up and coming business starts with strategic, operational and tactical plans developed by
top executives and other managers. These plans define what the company will accomplish and how
they are going to achieve it. Effective leaders know a plan is only as strong as the people they have to
do the work. Bosses cannot be the worker, front line supervisor and senior management all at once.
They have to rely on their workforce to get the job done. Managers establish a business plan and then,
they turn their focus on the resources required to realize their goals. The most critical resource is their
labor force. Organizational strategy is only effective if managers develop a human resources plan that
specifies the appropriate manpower needed to run an effective business.
An organizational plan defines the purpose of a company, but a business is lifeless without its people.
In order to hire, train, and promote a quality talent pool, managers in a large firm will turn to a Human
Resource manager or personnel manager to find potential candidates (Plunkett, Allen Attner, 2013).
Just like most functions within an organization, there is a process for staffing that is made up of eight
elements. The eight elements of the staffing process include human resource

Music And Its Importance On The Human Brain

English IV, 6 Pd.
28 February,2015 Music And Its Importance On The Human Brain Music affects people of all ages
developmentally , intellectually and medically as well as it affects their social , personal lives. In other
words, music affects the way in which we think , behave and feel. Music tends to have a positive
effect on the transfer of learning. For example , learning to play an instrument enhances the ability to
remember words through enlargement of the left cranial temporal regions of the brain. A study
brought up by the Institute of Education at the University of London shows that musically trained
participants remembered 17 percent more verbal information then those without musical training
(Hallam 2012). Extensive active engagement with music induces cortical reorganization producing
functional changes in how the brain handles information. When this is an occurrence in an early stage
of development , usually in children and young adults, it may produce permanent changes in the way
information is being processed into the brain. These changes display what exactly has been learned
and how it has been learned. According to the article, Transfer of cognitive learning from one domain
to another depends on the similarities between the processes involved, transfer can be near and far and
it is stronger and more likely to occur if its near (Hallam 2012). To continue with this aim, Salamon

Abstract
Bringing Adam Home review examines the story of the decades long investigation into the abduction
and murder of 6 year old Adam Walsh. The police investigation took 27 years to prove guilt of the
serial killer, Ottis Toole, who made multiple confessions to the murder. The book is written by the
experienced detective writer Les Standiford with the help of the retired detective Joe Matthews, who
finally found evidence of Toole s committing the murder 27 years afterwards. The case of Adam

As Reve Walsh put it: It was a sad thing for this country that the fight had to be led by two broken
down parents of a murdered child (Standiford, 2001).
The authors underscore that it could not be said that the Hollywood department was incompetent.
Rather that the case was too difficult, and Detective Hoffman turned out to be too snobbish not only to
ask for help but also to accept help from Joe Matthews when he offered it not once. Hoffman was too
unstructured and ill equipped for such mind bogging case (Standiford, 2001).Det. Serg. Matthews was
a lie detector expert and an experiences homicide detective and, being hired by the Hollywood, Fl,
Police Department, he was very interested by the case and was ready to use his knowledge to solve the
case. Among other things, the difference in approaches of two detectives was that Hoffman was
obsessed with finding physical evidences linking Toole to the Adam s murder; while Matthews
believed that circumstantial evidence could make do in some cases.
That meticulous recount of all glaring mistakes of the Hollywood, Fl, police department and the
detailed description of their daily working life had its aim in showing that detectives work is far from
the glamorized TV series. Doing on a daily basis such boring chores as searching for a person who
moved and did not leave the new address, or surveilling a suspect for many days, exhaust detectives,

Emergency Evacuation Planning
ABSTRACT:
Emergency evacuation is movement of people away from the place of accident/hazard immediately to
a safer place. This results in confusion and commotion causing more harm to people in and around the
place of accident/hazard. Thus, planning an emergency evacuation is a complex procedure which
includes routing evacuees, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. During such
catastrophic events, the evacuation routing models are vital to the evacuation planning problems.
Since, transportation infrastructure is a limited resource both in terms of directional accessibility and
capacity, it is worthy of well planning evacuation routes in advance so as to ensure a safe evacuee
routing decision and efficient utilization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a disaster or incident occurs, evacuees start to panic in general and may compete for the egress
routes without considering others if no proper evacuation routes are planned. Movement of evacuees
may cause congestion on road networks in large scale evacuations. However, considering roadway
capacities may severely limit the efficiency of the evacuation, which will naturally force motorists
find ways to divert around the disaster event. People are constrained during an evacuation by the
capacity of the road network, which in turn dictates evacuation times. Evacuation planning therefore
becomes critically important and essential to foster emergency evacuation strategies in defining
feasible evacuation routes and their traffic impact on the existing roadway network for varied
scenarios of disaster events. Without it, an effective evaluation practice would be unlikely. Such an
evacuation planning modelling is a complex problem with routing evacuee behavioral and
management facets, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. The evacuees must be
routed to safety under dynamic hazard and traffic conditions. Any number of transportation problems
can arise during an evacuation. A central challenge in managing a regional evacuation is routing
people to safety. An efficient routing plan is valuable because evacuations routinely result in travel
demand that exceeds the available network capacity. In emergency planning, GIS is valuable to
provide the data required by the evacuation models. On the other hand, traffic simulation models have
been developed for simulating traveler behavior and vehicle movement process. Thus this learning
module explains the integrity between the GIS and Transportation Engineering in the real life

Simulation of Dynamic Responses of First Order and Second...
Objectives:
As part of the experiment requirements, we were required to simulate the dynamic response of a first
order and a second order linear system with the help of LabVIEW. One of our first objectives of this
experiment was to observe the response of the first order system to the input step signal and then
relate it to the time constant of that specific first order system. The second objective of this experiment
included observing the second order system to the input step signal and then relating it to the damping
ratio of the specific second order system. The third and most important objective of this experiment
was to use different functions of LabVIEW including loop execution control, LabVIEW formula node,

A shift register was then used to store the y value for the next iteration (y(n 1)) in case of the first
order system while a 2 stacked shift register, in case of a second order system, was used to store the y
values from previous iterations (y(n 1) and y(n 2)). A formula node was used in order to input the
formula required to program the algorithm for each of the first and second order systems respectively.
After providing the required number inputs and outputs (as per the requirement of each of the formula
respectively), a waveform function was used to create the waveform data from the output data and
determine the time interval of the input waveform. After using an array to contain all the input and
output waveforms, a graph indicator was finally added to the VI to display the final graphical
representation of the output data.
After saving, each of the VI were run separately set at different time constants (for the first order
system) and different damping ratios and 100 Hz undamped natural frequency (for the second order
ratio).
Results:
After creating the VI for first order differential systems in LabVIEW, we ran the VI using five
different time constant values (0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07, 0.1) and received the following graphs:

Hormogonia Research Paper
Cyanobacteria are an ancient class of aquatic and photosynthetic bacteria. There are various types of
Cyanobacteria such as Nostoc punctiforme, a filamentous cyanobacteria. N. punctiforme has different
cell types such as vegetative cells, akinetes, heterocysts and hormogonia. Vegetative cells are where
photosynthesis occurs. In N. punctiforme, vegetative cells have a third developmental alternative in
which they differentiate into akinetes (dormant spore like cells). Akinetes are evolutionary precursors
of heterocysts (Meeks and Elhai 2002). Heterocysts supply a microaerobic environment to produce
essential proteins for nitrogen fixation. Hormogonia are short filaments that come from parental
filaments and are important for short distance spread of filamentous cyanobacteria such as Nostoc
punctiforme.

The first is the type IV pili theory and the second is the junctional pore theory. Type IV pili are
filaments on bacteria that are involved in motility and adhesion (Craig and Li, 2008). According to
some recent studies there is evidence that hormogonia have pilus like structures. In these studies they
inactivated the pilT like (pilus retraction gene) and pilD like (prepilin peptidase) components, which
changed the surface piliation levels and lowered the symbiotic competency (Duggan et al, 2007).
Junctional pores are structures that form around filaments on both sides of each cross wall or septum.
These pores make channels that radiate out and it was found that they may be involved in gliding
movements. The pores are sites where mucilage is secreted and thus leads to the gliding motility of
Nostoc punctiforme (Hoiczyk and Baumeister, 1998). Neither of these theories have enough evidence
to outcompete the other, but some researchers believe that the actual motility mechanism is a hybrid of

Due to the rapid advancement in information technology (IT), which entails information,
communication, mobile, and networking technologies, the service sector s list of ventures is constantly
expanding (Rust Huang, 2014). The advances in IT sector, therefore, are very closely associated with
the service revolution and the information revolution. Rust and Huang (2014) aim to explain these
phenomena s relationship to advances in IT and to consider the implications of this relationship for
marketing science. Much of the drastic transformation of the world s service sector from an industrial
to a post industrial service society is due to both the contribution of IT to service and from IT as a
service. In other words, the advancement of IT has transformed the nature of service fundamentally
(Rust Huang, 2014). IT plays a role of facilitator; as the mobile and networking technology allows the
consumers to access various services anywhere at any time, IT facilitates firm to customer, firm to
firm, and customer to firm communications online and on mobile devices. Hence, this trend enables
application developers to tailor services to fit the needs of each consumer (Rust Huang, 2014). As an
application developer aims to satisfy a specific need of the target consumers, the service quality and
the satisfaction of the consumers increase. As Figure 1

Why I Believe In The Pickle Theory
I believe in the pickle theory. You may think I am going to talk about how the pickling process relates
to some other far off ideal, or how the number of seeds vary in every pickle and each represents
something else. But you d be wrong. My pickle theory has to do with tradition. Every christmas my
dad hides a pickle, a pepper, and a pea pod ornament. My two sisters and I then all go searching for
one of these three things. Whoever finds the pickle gets first pick, pepper gets second, pea pod third.
My dad then holds out three envelopes to choose from. Each envelope contains a different amount of
money, ranging from smaller to larger amounts. The catch is, you don t know which envelope has
which amount of money. This is where the pickle theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second lesson I have learned from the pickle theory is that it winning isn t everything. Now this
may sound exactly like the first one, but I promise this is different. The thing with winning in this
sense is that you may get first place, but that doesn t necessarily mean you get first prize. Often times
when you win something you end up with a hollow victory, or a feeling that even though you won,
you some how lost. Although that is a much deeper subject in the same realm of my own, it still kind
of describes the feeling when you realized to lost. Big time. The things I have learned simply from a
pickle amaze me. I have changed the way I act in everyday life and I have changed the way I react in
situations. For example. If I were playing a game of monopoly, I wouldn t worry about rolling the
biggest number first. This is because getting the first move in the game has no advantage to how the
out come of the game will turn out. That person may lose first, win first, or they may end up stuck in
jail for most on the game. Instead, I would pay attention to what is going on ahead of me. My choices

All of these communications assume that the speakers and listeners share a definition of sex that is clear, consistent across situations, and unbiased by personal motives. In fact, there is limited research evaluating individuals definitions of sex, and the research that does exist seems based on implicit assumptions that may be problematic in some ways. (Peterson Muehlenhard, 2007, p. 256 268) This statement is implying that they back the notion that the definition of sex is still unknown; one hundred different individuals would give you one hundred different definitions of the enigmatic term sex . Additionally, this confusion is established in an article by Judith Mackay (2011) when she states that sex research, where it exists, is usually fertility related rather than sex oriented. Even definitions vary. There is no agreed definition of sex counseling, obscenity, or even what people mean by the term sex, all making comparable analysis difficult. But there is no way that we could go any further into this research without establishing a set definition, so the misperception must end now. For the sake of this research paper, sex will be defined as any vaginal, anal, or oral intercourse between two or more individuals. These three different forms of sex are often involved in sexual intercourse, but these terms can be ambiguous to many customary individuals. While there are many stakeholders who care about the financial situation of associated companies, like suppliers, customers, or creditors, the main addressees of business valuation are strategic investors who want to buy a significant stake in a company, as well as companies in the same industry that consider merging with another firm in order to push forward vertical or horizontal integration.1 And as a matter of fact, business valuation is by far not an easy task. There are hundreds of possible factors adding to the equation when it comes to determining the value of a business.2 Actually, just knowing the current value3 of an entire corporation, a factory or a certain department within an existing enterprise, usually does for itself not help much. Rather it is actually very uncommon that the current value of a business equals the price that s paid by investors.4 The purchase price for a company is largely dependent on influences like the economic environment in general (boom or crisis), the demand for one single enterprise or its products5, the situation of the current shareholders6 etc. Other factors which can result in a difference between the value of a company and the price paid are for example the qualification of the existing management, the extent to which the company is seen ... A concussion is a short loss of brain function following a direct or indirect force to the head. Concussions are extremely difficult to diagnose because the damage is seemingly invisible to the naked eye. Although the damages may not be present, the effects are long lasting. An injury as severe and time consuming as a concussion can undoubtedly counteract this kind of pay. Professional athletes do not want to jeopardize sitting out a game and missing their opportunity, [t]he return to play decision is based on symptoms, and the problem is the players all want to get back yesterday and the question is whether they are being truthful and honest during their evaluations, Stieg said (Futterman). There is nothing doctors or trainers can do if the athlete lies about being symptom free. They can suspect the severity of the concussion by just observing the athlete s behavioral response toward certain things, like light or noise. As a result, early identification is extremely beneficial to accurately examine damages to the brain because it leads to degenerative diseases. These diseases are hard to catch if symptoms are not shown in the athlete right away. The NFL has to adopt better protocol to diagnose concussions based on medical data instead of assessing by judgment (Futterman). A more scientific approach is being studied that can diagnose concussions faster and more accurately. By using a simple blood test after six hours of forceful impact, the test can display brain cells that have broken down succeeding the impact. By exercising such a test, it can rid the uncertainty of when it is safe to get an athlete back on the field without triggering further cognitive damages. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Importance Of Reading Young Adult Literature Currently, there is a debate about whether or not adults should be reading young adult (YA) literature. Some on the side for adults reading young adult literature highlight the benefits of adults reading YA literature; specifically reading it in order to relate to feelings they had as a young adult. This ability to relate to YA literature in a personal manner could be very useful to teachers who work with young adults. Teachers can use their findings from the YA novels to further empathize with their students, learn how to integrate these YA novels into their curriculum to make it easier for students to understand, and learn to understand and help students coping with some sort of emotional trauma that may affect their learning. In the classroom, it is highly important that a teacher be able to empathize with and relate to their students. A teacher with a good understanding of the thought processes and emotions of their students often have an easier time relaying information to them (Sylwester 1994). One way that teachers could learn to relate and empathize with their students is by reading YA novels. YA novels are written to be understood and related to by young adults, but anyone who has lived through adolescence should be able to find a YA novel they can relate their life to. • 15. The Management Of Mental Health Disorders Psychiatry and psychology work together in treating and diagnosing mental disorders. Mental illness include abnormalities in the emotional, mental, and behavioral areas of an individual s life. Mental disorders are diagnosed by the outlined criteria, in approved diagnostic manuals. The management of mental health disorders involves a combination therapy of drugs and psychotherapy such as electroconvulsive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy as well as others, depending on the disease. The treatment can be outpatient or inpatient depending on the disease severity. Some patients or their family may question the effect of the treatment they receive, like medicine, because of the constant change of therapy plans and modifications in prescription. Although some treatments have been questioned on their effectiveness, psychotherapy has a positive outcome in patients. There is much thought around psychiatry with people questioning the efficiency of the psychiatric treatment and others arguing that mental disorders do not exist. Individuals with anti psychiatric views claim that the treatments that are used for mental illnesses are ineffective, unsafe, unnecessary, and are not any helpful to the patients. The pulmonary circulation transport deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs. During pulmonary circulation blood picks up oxygen and returns to the left side of the heart. The right atrium and the right ventricle support the pulmonary circulation loop. The systemic circulation carries highly oxygenated blood from the left side of the heart to all of the tissues of the body. During systemic circulation it then removes wastes from body tissues and returns deoxygenated blood to the right side of the heart. The left atrium and the left ventricle of the heart support the systemic circulation loop. Blood vessels are responsible for the blood to flow dynamically from the heart to every part of the body and then back to a continuous cycle which takes about one minute (Tim Taylor, 2014). The size of the blood vessels correlates with the amount of blood that passes through the vessel (Tim Taylor, 2014). The hollow area of the blood vessel is called the lumen which can either be thin or thick depending on which organ it flows through (Tim Taylor, 2014). This interest outset a war with Germany and the Triple Alliance, World War 1. In the early 1900s as the United States tried to keep neutral and isolated from other countries ideas, Americans in the nation displayed an influence in public opinion. For example, American Journalist George Creel, began the Kansas City Independent. He was the head of the Committee of Public Information in 1917, created by President Woodrow Wilson. The Committee was responsible for raising American support for the war effort ( War, Journalism, and Propaganda ). This agency proved that even President Wilson used propaganda to support war efforts. One of the reasons why he was acclaimed as one of the best writers of the era was because of his lucid prose and the other was the aptness of his work. George Orwell wanted to target the British rule and to support the idea of a Democratic Government. In the essay Shooting an Elephant , Orwell shows the flaw in the system and how being in power has left him without any power to make his own decision at all. When the white man turn tyrant it is his own freedom that he destroys (Orwell). • 33. Organizational Strategy For A Successful Business A successful business is made up of various parts so it is imperative that managers develop the right mix of objectives and personnel if they want to have a fighting chance to survive in today s global economy. An up and coming business starts with strategic, operational and tactical plans developed by top executives and other managers. These plans define what the company will accomplish and how they are going to achieve it. Effective leaders know a plan is only as strong as the people they have to do the work. Bosses cannot be the worker, front line supervisor and senior management all at once. They have to rely on their workforce to get the job done. Managers establish a business plan and then, they turn their focus on the resources required to realize their goals. The most critical resource is their labor force. Organizational strategy is only effective if managers develop a human resources plan that specifies the appropriate manpower needed to run an effective business. An organizational plan defines the purpose of a company, but a business is lifeless without its people. In order to hire, train, and promote a quality talent pool, managers in a large firm will turn to a Human Resource manager or personnel manager to find potential candidates (Plunkett, Allen Attner, 2013). Partida Ms.Ponder English IV, 6 Pd. 28 February,2015 Music And Its Importance On The Human Brain Music affects people of all ages developmentally , intellectually and medically as well as it affects their social , personal lives. In other words, music affects the way in which we think , behave and feel. Music tends to have a positive effect on the transfer of learning. For example , learning to play an instrument enhances the ability to remember words through enlargement of the left cranial temporal regions of the brain. A study brought up by the Institute of Education at the University of London shows that musically trained participants remembered 17 percent more verbal information then those without musical training (Hallam 2012). Extensive active engagement with music induces cortical reorganization producing functional changes in how the brain handles information. When this is an occurrence in an early stage of development , usually in children and young adults, it may produce permanent changes in the way information is being processed into the brain. These changes display what exactly has been learned and how it has been learned. • 37. Emergency Evacuation Planning ABSTRACT: Emergency evacuation is movement of people away from the place of accident/hazard immediately to a safer place. This results in confusion and commotion causing more harm to people in and around the place of accident/hazard. Thus, planning an emergency evacuation is a complex procedure which includes routing evacuees, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. During such catastrophic events, the evacuation routing models are vital to the evacuation planning problems. Since, transportation infrastructure is a limited resource both in terms of directional accessibility and capacity, it is worthy of well planning evacuation routes in advance so as to ensure a safe evacuee routing decision and efficient utilization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a disaster or incident occurs, evacuees start to panic in general and may compete for the egress routes without considering others if no proper evacuation routes are planned. Movement of evacuees may cause congestion on road networks in large scale evacuations. However, considering roadway capacities may severely limit the efficiency of the evacuation, which will naturally force motorists find ways to divert around the disaster event. People are constrained during an evacuation by the capacity of the road network, which in turn dictates evacuation times. Evacuation planning therefore becomes critically important and essential to foster emergency evacuation strategies in defining feasible evacuation routes and their traffic impact on the existing roadway network for varied scenarios of disaster events. Without it, an effective evaluation practice would be unlikely. Such an evacuation planning modelling is a complex problem with routing evacuee behavioral and management facets, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. The evacuees must be routed to safety under dynamic hazard and traffic conditions. Any number of transportation problems can arise during an evacuation. A central challenge in managing a regional evacuation is routing people to safety. An efficient routing plan is valuable because evacuations routinely result in travel demand that exceeds the available network capacity. In emergency planning, GIS is valuable to provide the data required by the evacuation models. On the other hand, traffic simulation models have been developed for simulating traveler behavior and vehicle movement process. A formula node was used in order to input the formula required to program the algorithm for each of the first and second order systems respectively. There are various types of Cyanobacteria such as Nostoc punctiforme, a filamentous cyanobacteria. N. punctiforme has different cell types such as vegetative cells, akinetes, heterocysts and hormogonia. Vegetative cells are where photosynthesis occurs. In N. punctiforme, vegetative cells have a third developmental alternative in which they differentiate into akinetes (dormant spore like cells). Akinetes are evolutionary precursors of heterocysts (Meeks and Elhai 2002). Heterocysts supply a microaerobic environment to produce essential proteins for nitrogen fixation. In these studies they inactivated the pilT like (pilus retraction gene) and pilD like (prepilin peptidase) components, which changed the surface piliation levels and lowered the symbiotic competency (Duggan et al, 2007). Junctional pores are structures that form around filaments on both sides of each cross wall or septum. These pores make channels that radiate out and it was found that they may be involved in gliding movements. The pores are sites where mucilage is secreted and thus leads to the gliding motility of Nostoc punctiforme (Hoiczyk and Baumeister, 1998).
