Microsoft Swot Analysis Paper
Founded in 1975, Microsoft is a global competitor , that is, a global corporation following a unified
strategy to coordinate many national operations (Porter, 2011); is the oldest major producer of
software for personal computers (PCs) and the world s largest software company with a strong,
leading market share for its core products that make up over 80% of its revenue (Moody s, 2013).
Microsoft entered the market at the beginning of the new global economy with an initial strategic
intent (Macmillan Tampoe, 2000) to capitalise on software back in an era when PCs were too
expensive for the retail market, and before PC standards existed. Microsoft launched its Initial Public
Offering (IPO) in March, 1986 of 3.095 million shares opening ... Show more content on

Not only does this enable scales of economy, it also means that international offerings can be highly
integrated, and presumably allows technology, methodologies and intellectual advancement to be
shared across all sites. As an industry dominant force, the product lines are vast however there is an
expectation from customers that Microsoft will be able to support and deliver products with the same
consistency as though Microsoft were local to the customer.
Early market domination allowed Microsoft to build huge momentum and gain dominant market share
within the industry resulting not only in huge incomes but also opportunities in defining industry
standards and best practices: when non existent, to create new standards and best practices; to
cooperate within the industry to define and innovate; or even to challenge the industry and attempt to
muscle past (Salop Romaine, 1999; Besen Farrell, 1994). Microsoft s products are essentially virtual
platforms that provide integration within the vast ecosystem of IT, and broadly allow a high degree of
customisation at many layers, or in other words, middleware, defined as software integration (Vinoski,
2002).

Success Rates of the Re-establishment of the Fynbos in the...
Introduction
The Tokai forest is currently under rehabilitation for the re establishment of fynbos after the
commercial pine had been planted there 11 years to 23 years ago. The commercial pine was originally
planted in the Tokai for commercial and industrial reasons, such as to make paper or wood for fire. On
top of affecting the natural fynbos vegetation the pine was also jeopardizing the surrounding
environment by starving the other plant life of the natural water resources. The cutting of the
commercial pine is aiming to re establish the indigenous Cape Flats Sand Fynbos, that is naturally
found in the Tokai vegetation.

Background of commercial pine clearings:
The clearings began in April 2005 where they started to cut down the Cecilia pines, type of pine tree
in Tokai. (http://www.sanparks.co.za/parks/table_mountain/environment/tokai.php) This pine was for
commercial use meaning it was always intended to be harvested for industrial uses, such making of
paper. These pines were originally planted in 1885 and were fist harvested in 1920, where more of the
same pine was planted 10 years after.
Reasons for cutting the pines:
The Cecilia pines were originally planted for industrial use, meaning that it was always going to be
used as fire wood or turned to paper. It is also important to remember that the pines were an alien
plant, preventing the indigenous fynbos to grow. The Cecilia pine specifically is as pine tree that
consumes large sums water, restraining the other indigenous plants from a water source in the forest.
By removing the pines water levels in local dams, streams and rivers should increase vastly. The pine
tree is a very good heat and fire conductor, however their fire risk potential is increased by every
specific pine needle on the forest bed. (http://www.waterrhapsody.co.za/2011/03/16/the cutting of pine
trees in cecelia forest/) This creates a risk to neighboring forests and civilizations near by these pines
because of the quickes rates these fires spread and increase putting all areas surrounding them in

What Is Discipline Essay
Do you really understand what it means to discipline someone? How do you define discipline? Does it
mean helping someone get on the right track or is it about casting judgment or punishing a person for
doing something wrong? Certainly discipline is misunderstood. In this article I want to give you a
view of discipline that you may not have thought of and explain how to implement it with your team.
Observations about discipline:
Avoiding confrontation Many people don t like to discipline their employees because they view it as a
form of confrontation which may lead to conflict. Most of us try to avoid conflict and therefore put off
any communication that may trigger conflict.
Discipline is perceived as judgment and punishment But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the Greek definition, it s about helping someone use their energy efficiently to become more
effective in their job.
Discipline saves time and energy It makes more sense to take action and discipline someone than it
does to waste time and energy thinking about it.
There are five progressive stages of discipline that can be used with individuals and help a team use its
energy more effectively. The process begins with simple communication and then builds in intensity
of action and involvement by the manager until the person acquires the targeted skill or finds a new
job. These progressive stages are designed to help the employee develop into an effective team
member. They are not designed to judge or punish an employee. The manager must exercise
compassion and interest in the welfare of the individual.
1. Communicate It s imperative that an employee understands completely what is expected of him.
What are his responsibilities and goals? How are they to be carried out? In what time frame must they
be completed? How will their performance be

Technology Has Affected The World
Around the globe each individual has a different definition of what a city is to them. Perhaps in more
economically advanced countries, cities to the inhabitants maybe a mere central business district, a
place to commute to for work, a place of entertainment and shopping. But what about those third
world countries, is the city seen as a place, for income which can help support the family leading them
to a better future and perhaps even immigration; for these citizens is the city a place for trade and
markets or somewhere where you can only dream of going to. Where ever in the world, every
individual will have a different definition and vision for the city and the surrounding areas. However
the core purpose of all cities is to lift the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A city has a diverse range of people who come in and out of the area day to day. People come from
near and far, whether it is a 5 minute walk, to a 10 hour flight. With this diversity also lies another
diversity, which is the purpose of their visit and the area of expertise in which they hold. Maybe it is
coming here to gain experience, or it could be coming for work, or plainly tourism and entertainment.
Whatever the reason each day many different views of a city would be created, largely affected by
these backgrounds of the individual. The career of Benjamin W. Richardson embraced a temperance

contributions on physiology, pharmacology, pathology, internal medicine, anesthesis, epidemiology,
sanitation, public health, and dental hygiene. (Van Nostrand s Eclectic Engineering Magazine, 1876, p.

The Ethical Theory Of The Election Of 2016
The election of 2016 was one of the most publicized political events of our nation s history. While the
candidates in this year s election were more unconventional then years past, this election held an
uncanny resemblance to elections of past years in the United States. The ethical and moral issues
voters frequently take into account are as follows: race, culture, immigration and populism. Many
ethical theories play into elections, on both the sides of the voters as well as the candidates. The
ethical theory described is an approach or belief based off one s own morals or values. The ethical
theory of Utilitarianism is often used in the decision making on both the voters part, as well as how
the candidates will present their policies on their own beliefs. Ethical egoism is another alternative
voters or candidates may use, believing the people self interest is more important. The ethical theory
of Utilitarianism is defined as, the theory that one ought to maximize happiness and minimize the
unhappiness of as many people as possible (Rosenstand G 6). John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham
were two philosophers who supported and helped found the theory of Utilitarianism. On a contrasting
note, the opposing ethical theory to utilitarianism is the ethical egoist theory or perspective. The
ethical egoist perspective is the idea that everyone ought to be selfish or self interested (Rosenstand G
3). This theory supports the idea that all people should look out for

The Benefits Of Spanking
Over the past several decades, parents have used different forms of corporal punishment to discipline
their child. Many of these disciplinary techniques are effective however, one that tends to continue to
be a controversial topic is spanking. Some parents believe this method fixes the behavior, though other
parents believe spanking is the lazy approach. Spanking a child as a form of punishment is not a new
concept and is used widely however, a multitude of effects arise from this practice, including later
marriages and future relationships. Therefore, a solution to end this act needs to resolve this habit.
This solution will give tips to parents to choose other discipline method.

the child, which is appropriate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spanking started in Ancient Greece as a pagan practice and was later introduced to the Catholic
Church. This practice in the church was used as a punishment for those who confess against their sins
and realize they need their sins removed. The Catholic Church at this time believed spanking the
sinner rid them of their sin and they were forgiven. This punishment continued throughout World War
2 as a means for teenagers to understand their sins had been removed. The Catholic belief comes from
the Old Testament in the Bible and several still refer to this today. Spanking has also been prevalent in
Victorian Europe coming from psychologist, Sigmund Freud s, theories. Freud had a theory known as
the Oedipus and Electra Complex. This theory demonstrates the children were being sexually abused
on a mass scale...in the very strict punishing environment in every home (Lutton, 2007). Freud had
sent this theory to the public and he had lost all his funding. This concept not only explains Sigmund
Freud s thinking, but it also explains how spanking as punishment can continue down several

Quotes From Bartleby The Scrivener
Lazy, stubborn, and strength are commonly construed with the American people. An American
archetype is a person that represents universal American human patterns. People have said that the
character Bartleby from Bartleby, the Scrivener demonstrates resemblance to an American archetype.
The novella is set during the mid 1800 s on Wallstreet. During this time period there was a rise in
change and the world was moving at a rapid pace. Bartleby struggle with change and relates to an
American archetype by being lazy, stubborn and strong inside the work place. Bartleby is a very
ignorant man who commonly refuses to do the simplest tasks. He would often be asked by his boss to
copy down a legal document and he would just refuse. He resembles the human pattern of an
American archetype that was unwilling to accept change. Bartleby displays his unwillingness to
change when he is given the choice to either move out of his office or go to jail and says at present I
would prefer not to make any change at all. (Melville 26) He believes that his life was perfect the way
it was. This was commonly seen in America during the time period when you had a battle between the
younger generation with new ideals and the older generation refusing change. Bartleby is acting like
the older generation by ignoring the need to move on and willingness to open up to new ideals. It is
even seen in today s culture often seen with gay rights and the fight between Democrats and
Republicans on rights for

Summary Of The New Science Of Mind By Kandel
The brain is a very complex organ that conducts several mental processes. Kandel s article The New
Science of Mind describes how scientist are now able to describe the way brain processes are linked to
mental disorders. I recall learning about the different functions of the parts of the brain in anatomy
class. The hypothalamus regulates important body s systems, the amygdala has to do with our
emotions, the hippocampus helps us remember things, and the prefrontal cortex which enables
personality expression and moderates social behavior, as Kandel portrays in his research. As a
psychology major I am interested in the way the brain plays a role in mental disorders. He states that a
dysfunction in brain processes is what causes mental illnesses.

Conventional and Irregular Warfare
Giulio Douhet, in his seminal treatise on air power titled The Command of the Air, argued, A man who
wants to make a good instrument must first have a precise understanding of what the instrument is to
be used for; and he who intends to build a good instrument of war must first ask himself what the next
war will be like. The United States (US) military establishment has been asking itself this exact
question for hundreds of years, in an attempt to be better postured for the future. From the Civil War,
through the American Indian Wars, and up until World War II (WWII) the American military s way of
war consisted of fighting traditional, or conventional, wars focused on total annihilation of an enemy.
Since that time, there has been a gradual shift from the traditional framework towards one that can
properly address non traditional, or irregular wars. While the US maintains a capability to conduct
conventional warfare, the preponderance of operations where the US military has been engaged since
WWII have been irregular wars. Therefore, this question articulated by Douhet, as to understanding
the character of the next war in order to properly plan, train, and equip, is certainly germane to the
current discussion of regular war versus irregular war. In today s fiscally constrained environment, the
questions remains, which will dominate the future and therefore, garner further funding and priority.
Based on the current threats and the US role as a superpower, the US

My Experience In Football
Football has been a major part of my life for seven years now, it has also taught me many important
life lessons never give up in difficult times, always work as a team and never put yourself first. During
my years of playing, I ve gotten injured multiple times and I came back stronger but this time it ll be
harder.
On the third play of defense I shot off the line and barely slipped by the offensive tackle who aimed to
take out my legs. I bolted down the line pursuing the ball carrier in a mass of offenders and I was
getting ready to tackle the running back. I had planted my foot to help tackle the running back and all
of a sudden the bottom part of my left leg crunched. I tried to get off the ground but it was difficult. I
kept trying to stand up, but my leg wouldn t let me, it kept knocking me off of my feet. I eventually
got up on my right leg and started hopping to the side line. The whole time I was screaming at the
coaches to get me a substitute and I was cursing as well. I was about halfway to the sideline before I
started crying, but I wasn t crying because it hurt, I was crying because this was my year to do the best
that I ever had in football, my senior year. I got to the sideline and the coaches guided me to the bench
and sat me down. The trainer Mike, Rachel, and one of the coaches kept telling me everything will be
okay. I couldn t even listen to them. They were just distant voices when they were talking, it just made
me aggravated. I knew it wasn t okay.

Susan B Anthony Achievements
Susan Brownell Anthony was a fierce and powerful woman who was very determined to fight for
equal rights. Her speeches and enthusiasm captured the attention of many, and this was important
because she influenced the government to finally pass the 19th amendment which gave women
suffrage in 1920. She powered through all the obstacles that were imposed on her. Later, her name
went down in history.
On February 15, 1820 in Adams Massachusetts, Susan B. Anthony was born into a large Quaker
family consisting of her mother, father, four sisters and two brothers; she was the second oldest of
them all. Most Quakers along with her father, Daniel, believed that girls and women deserved an

Many of them happened when she made her speeches. She wore bloomers, pants that symbolized
women s rights, to all of them. However, she stopped because nobody would listen to her. She even
made her speeches in the freezing cold, or possibly being pelted with food and snow. But even though
her speeches helped the cause, the male africans getting suffrage in 1866 didn t. Though it was a good
thing, Susan protested that it was unfair for africans to get suffrage but not women, which made the
male abolitionists, whom she was acquainted with, turn on her because they thought she only was
focused on women s rights. After this, she decided she would vote illegally. In 1872, she went to vote.
They let her after she showed them a copy of the fourteenth amendment, which allowed citizens to
vote. Three weeks later, Susan was unfairly arrested and the amendment was changed from allowing
citizens to vote, to allowing male citizens to vote; this angered her very much. Many years later, Susan
started a campaign for women s suffrage. She was going to win until a liquor company said it would
ruin business. To make matters worse, Elizabeth Cady Stanton passed away in 1902. At her small
funeral, she asked for a single picture to be placed on her casket. A picture of her best partner and
friend, Susan B. Anthony, lay there. Clearly, Susan faced some very rough

Allied Strategic Bombing Analysis
Strategic bombing is a military strategy used in total war, deployed with the goal of defeating the
enemy, by destroying their morale or their economic ability to produce and transport material to the
theatres of military operations. The four areas in which the significance of Allied strategic bombing
will be assessed are: economic, diplomacy, morale and the effect it had on the fighting fronts in
Europe.
The First area of strategic bombing to be assessed is the effect it had on scattering the German military
from their posted Fronts and the destruction of the Luftwaffe. The bombing raids on Germany drew
defenses that were positioned on the Eastern Front and in other areas to try and counter the incoming
Allie aircraft. German anti tank defenses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was only due to the collaboration between the British, the Russians and US; the third Front could be
created. The third front tightened the relationship between the Allie countries and from then was able
to work together in attempts to defeat the Nazis regime. Strategic bombing was only instigated
because Churchill, who was already a major supporter of bombing, and Roosevelt did not want to re
create the horrors from bombing civilians in the form of terror bombing from World War two. As well
Stalin wanted a third front to keep pressured, menacing attacks on Germany, so a new front enabled a
workload shift from the Russians to the rest of the Allies air force. The Casablanca conference, 21
January 1943 was a turning point in the effectiveness of allied bombing against Germany. At
Casablanca, Churchill and Roosevelt agreed to give the heaviest bombing offensive against the
German war machine. The combined leaders issued an order to the air forces to bring about the
destruction and dislocation of the German Military, industrial and economic system and the
undermining of the morale. This was done by the technique called Unconditional Surrender. This
means that the winner of the war is eligible to control the enemies land and borders, and the defeated
is given nothing. Diplomacy was the factor that controlled the bombing raids through the war. This
increased the significance of bombing for

Dysbindin-1 Case Study
Dysbindin 1 promotes Drp1 oligomerization
Mitochondrial fission requires dynamin related protein 1 (Drp1). Drp1 is a large GTPase that can
assemble into oligomers with enhanced GTPase activity. Drp1 is predominantly located in the cytosol
and can be recruited to mitochondria to mediate mitochondrial fission by forming an oligomeric ring
around the mitochondrial tubule to constrict and sever mitochondrial outer membranes 38 43. Having
found that dysbindin 1 regulates mitochondrial fission, we proceeded to test whether dysbindin 1 is
involved in the association of Drp1 with mitochondria. Cultured hippocampal neurons (DIV14) were
transfected with the mitoDsRed plasmid along with the dysbindin 1 siRNAs, scrambled siRNAs,
dysbindin 1C or 1A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mitochondrial fraction of sdy hippocampi contained more monomeric Drp1 and fewer higher
order Drp1 oligomers than that of WT hippocampi, while the whole cell lysate of WT and sdy
hippocampi had comparable amounts of monomeric and oligomeric Drp1 (Figure 4A C). These results
indicate that dysbindin 1 is required for Drp1 oligomerization on mitochondria.
Given that dysbindin 1C promotes the recruitment of Drp1 to mitochondria (Figure 3A C), we
assessed Drp1 oligomers in cultured hippocampal neurons transduced with lentivirus expressing
dysbindin 1C or 1A. Overexpression of dysbindin 1C, but not 1A, increased higher order Drp1
oligomers and decreased monomeric Drp1 in the mitochondrial fraction (Figure 4D F). Hence,
dysbindin 1C promotes Drp1 oligomerization on mitochondria.
How does dysbindin 1 regulate Drp1 oligomerization? Dysbindin 1 has been detected on
mitochondrial outer membranes by electron microscopy 28. It is possible that dysbindin 1 binds to
Drp1 to enhance its oligomerization. To test this possibility, we transfected HEK 293 cells with YFP
Drp1 along with HA tagged dysbindin 1C or 1A, and used an anti HA antibody to immunoprecipitate
dysbindin 1 at 2 days after transfection. Drp1 was detected in the immunoprecipitation product from
cells transfected with dysbindin 1C, but not with 1A plasmid (Figure 4G), indicating that

A Comparison Of Morality In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Frankenstein is a classic written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley that has captured readers
imaginations since the nineteenth century. The moral of Frankenstein was that a lack of
companionship will lead to self destruction. Lilo and Stitch, the Disney adapted version, has the same
moral. Each teach the same, basic lesson that companionship and friends are generally positive things,
yet they told different stories. Their stories, at first glance, are almost unrecognizable from each other.
When comparing the two versions, one might ask how the morals remained the same despite the
drastic alterations that Disney made. However, if one were to take a look at the changes that Disney
made he or she would understand how. In Lilo and Stitch, Stitch (Disney s equivalent of Frankenstein
s monster) is a protagonist while the monster is the antagonist in the original, Stitch makes friends
whereas Frankenstein s monster suffers throughout the entire book without so much as a friendly
gesture, and as a result, the endings are completely different as well. Both Frankenstein and Lilo and

Mental Discovery In Frankenstein
As a boy, Victor Frankenstein had always had an eager desire to learn (Shelly, 19). In his childhood,
he read the work of Agrippa and there his fascination manifested with the thought of educating
himself. As he got older, he decided with his family that he needed to further his education by
attending University, leading to him enrolling at the University of Ingolstadt. This marks the
beginning of the long journey of obsession he embarked upon. At the University, he met a professor
by the name of M. Waldmen, Victor s source of inspiration and his introduction to what he says was
his sole occupation (29), the reanimation of life. Victor seemed to have found his true meaning of life
and set out to make this discovery and wouldn t stop working until he reached the answer. His
curiosity of the psychical sciences increased everyday along with his obsession of creating the
creature and untimely starting a second one. Throughout the story, Victor encounters two situations
where he has to put everything on hold and create something that will forever change his life. The
place where Victor first begins his mental downfall begins in his laboratory in Ingolstadt, a large town
near the south end of Germany. Victor s laboratory was a solitary chamber, or rather a cell, at the top
of the house, and separated from all the other apartments (33). During the time period of creating the
creature, Victor s psychological state transformed from a happy, intelligent man who s only desire

The Cost Of The Asset
Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible assets that
have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be allocated and
depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as well as any
possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only include the
purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if applicable).
Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an expense and
does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow the asset to
become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are acceptable methods
used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s day to day operations to
expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to prorating tangible and
intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life of the asset. For an item to be
considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business and not for resale. Useful life
should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from one view point to another. Estimated
useful life is the time period in which an asset is expected to contribute to usefulness to a company.
Not all assets will have salvage value. With the exception of land, all assets are

Anthem And The Island Comparison Essay
n my mind this means in you can grant someone with freedom, do not worry about getting it yourself
you do not deserve it. These two stories affected me because I value having my freedom. All the
similarities and differences are related to the way the society runs and it s lack of freedom. Within this
essay, I am going to tell you about how the book Anthem and the movie The Island are similar and
different.
The first similarity between the book Anthem and the movie The Island is that the main characters
have inquiring minds. For example, Lincoln 6 Echo has been curious about the society he has learned
to adapt and live in. He had been very inquisitive about the way things go on in the labs and around
the society. Due to him having such a curious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an example, after Equality had decided to take his discovered invention to the World Council of
Scholars, he was told how he needed to be punished. With knowing that he will now never become a
part of the scholars he seized the box of light from the council and darted into the Uncharted Forest.
As from fleeing from his society, Equality kept on going further into the forest. He eventually
discovered the house in the forest, which he decided to stay in leading him to find out that Equality 7
2521 was not we but instead an individual I . In addition to Equality leaving his society, Lincoln also
did the same in The Island. Once Lincoln had found out the truth about the way the government
worked and what they were doing he needed to tell someone. With that reason, Lincoln ran to Jordan 2
Delta due to the fact that he knew she was leaving for the island. The two then fled from their society,
leaving them clueless in the desert searching for someplace safe to go. Concluding this leaves off with
the last similarity between Anthem and The Island. Which on the other hand, are those differences

An Analysis Of If We Must Die By Claude Mckay
War over the years is a brutal, long battle between two opposing sides. Whose sole purpose is for one
side to come out the victor and claim that your side are superior or to stop the mentality of superiority
and to make peace. World War one was a brutal war in which Britain,
France, and Russia were on the losing side and were almost on the way of giving up. Until, the
United States bravely stepped in during 1917 to give a helping hand to allies while they were down for
the count and went on to win World War one (Murrin et al. 620). With that bit of encouragement,
whether as big of a power as the United States or as small as just some helpful words are enough to
overcome an adversary. In the poem, If We Must Die , Claude McKay ... Show more content on

Hopefulness is conveyed throughout the poem through the author s choice of words and how he
chooses to use them.
Hyperboles throughout the poem are used as tools of encouragement to bring out the bravery out of
the soldiers in their dire situation. McKay showcases that, While round us bark the mad and hungry
dogs, / Making their mock at our accursèd lot. / If we must die, O let us nobly die,
(3 5). The commander is telling his fellow soldiers how the enemy is ravaging and is mocking them at
every chance they get and how they should die nobly and not give in to the enemy. This quote is using
hyperbole by describing the enemy as mad and hungry dogs / Making their Mock at our accur to show
how menacing the enemy soldiers are and their intentions. McKay uses the hyperbole to describe the
severity and danger of the enemy but also gives advice to the soldiers that although they be strong
they should go out like noble men with honor and not like cowards.
Before going to battle the commander exclaims, Like men we ll face the murderous, cowardly pack, /
Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back! (13 14). The commander is giving his last words of
encouragement to his fellow comrades. The hyperbole to describe the enemy as the
murderous, cowardly pack is a way to encourage the fellow soldiers to give it their all before heading
into battle. The commander calling the

Culture And Leadership Paper
Culture influences leadership in many ways, so it is helpful to first understand what culture is.
According to our text culture is defined as the learned beliefs, values, rules, norms, symbols, and
traditions that are common to a group of people (Northouse, 2016). Culture is the way of life, customs,
and script of a group of people. Different cultures have different ideas about what they want from their
leaders, but by understanding cultural differences leaders can become more empathetic and accurate in
their communication with others. It is clear that different culture groups desire different leadership
behaviors when they are looking for an effective leader. Surprisingly there were effective leadership

all leaders should be required to go through a training to teach the development of ethical leadership. I
believe we must start with the leaders in order to get others to follow along with the right behavior.
Mangers in an organization should also be required to attend a program and training to become more
ethically effective at work and in life and to help make ethical decisions. Managers and leaders can

The Lives Of Animals ( 1999 )
In The Lives of Animals (1999), a metafictional novella about animal right by the South African
novelist J.M. Coetzee, the author posits through his character representative, Elizabeth Costello, that
animals are not believers in ecology (Coetzee 151). We are told to believe based on the previous
ruminations of Costello, who outlines early in part I The Philosophers and the Animals section that
animals do not possess reason, and as a result, animals cannot hope to comprehend the way in which
the complex ecosystems that are present in the study of ecology in any meaningful way (Coetzee 137).
This claim is important to Costello in that it is the very foundation of everything else she argues
within her debate, as she cites that to approach the ethics of the animal rights argument from any
spectrum of our understanding of reason is to do so from a flawed point of view, as animals do not
possess reason and therefore cannot be judged and evaluated under that system fairly, or even at all.
While Costello s claims certainly present an interesting point, they are troubling and ultimately flawed
in their approach. I strongly disagree with Costello s claim that animal are not believers in ecology
because she is wholly enamoured with the idea of reason being an impossible judge of animal rights,
going so far as to say that if reason is all she shares with her philosophical opponents, then she has no
use for it (Coetzee 133). However, through Costello s assumption that she can speak

International Relations Concepts
International Relations 210
Midterm Assignment
1. What does it mean to study international relations?
The study of international relations pertains to the understanding of the rules of engagement between
the sovereign states. This study falls under the domain of political science and international law
studies. Based on the study of international relations, an individual gets an insight into the foreign
policies of a government, the political dynamics that are prevalent in a region and overall global
events awareness. It also enables understanding the entities of intergovernmental organizations.
Understanding of the international relations also pertains to comprehending the level of declared and
vested interests possessed by different states in the course of interaction with other nations. Study of
international relationship also pertains to finding amicable means towards the resolution of the
problems faced through diplomatic engagement of the parties (Wilkinson 2007).
2. How do realism and liberalism differ?
Realism is based on the mindset of military might, war hysteria and aiming to gain maximum ground
against the rivals. The military empowerment and use of force as a means to protecting oneself makes
up for the main idea of realism. In a practical scenario, the Cold war era depicted the realism in terms
of international relationship. In the light of realism, the countries aimed at establishing their influence
by providing military and other forms of

Causes Of The Salem Witch Trials

Classic Literature

The Salem Witch Trials The Salem witch trials were an important event in American history. However
this affected more than Salem, the ripples from these trials swept throughout the United States. Over
two hundred witches where accused and twenty where killed. Later the judges admitted that they had
been mistaken and tried to make it right but frictions lasted for a long time after word. (Blumberg,
2007) The main reason behind the Salem Witch Trials was fear. The location of Salem was a town that
was on the edge of the settled colonies. Therefor the settlers of this area had many reasons to fear
death, by starvation, sickness, or being killed and scalped by the Native American that lived in the
forest. The people that lived in constant fear took it out on the weaker people. These weaker people
where; the old, the poor, and women. When the movement started this fear compelled the people to
take action. (Salem Witch Trials, 2011) These trials started in Salem when some young girls had fits.
The doctor said it was because of witches and the town blamed several women. Titub, one of the
accused, was a slave form the Caribbean. Sarah Good, another, was a homeless beggar. Sarah
Osborne, an elderly impoverished woman, was the third accused. These three where imprisoned and
where tried. Two of them, Osborne and Good, refused to confess, but finally Titub confessed to
associating to with the devil. The trials of

Problems Regarding the Toronto Blessing In 1994, a small church was started near the Pearson

Toronto, Canada. This small church would spark a revolution attracting over 300,000 people making a

congregation became overcome by spiritual laughter . This practice and others such as speaking in
tongues, sounding like animals, shaking uncontrollably, and swooning occur regularly at the Toronto

The disciples were not found in the Bible doing any of these from the power of the Holy Spirit they
had received after Pentecost (Gilley, 2000). The Toronto believed they have specifically been blessed
with these manifestations. However, they do not exclude other churches from the phenomenon; one
can visit the Toronto Church and take the blessing back to their home church. The founder of the
Vineyard Churches John Wimber has reservations about spiritual laughter and no Biblical evidence for
manifestations. While he admits to this he does not advocating testing the phenomenon with scripture
(Smith, 2006). Wimber wants the people to listen to him as the ultimate authority. However, Christians
should follow what God has specifically given to his children as approvable for reproof, for doctrine,
and for correction (The Holy Bible, 1989). John Arnott, the pastor of the Airport Vineyard Fellowship,
tells his followers that they are not to even entertain the thought that they might become involved in
any kind of counterfeit revival. Yet, the apostle John warned us to Test the spirits to see whether they
are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world (Gilley, 2000). Many of the
pastors at such churches as the Vineyard churches have seen small congregations of unenthused
worshipers. The experience of the phenomenon of manifestations is attractive to worshipers (Smith,
2006). A quote from South African charismatic

Optogenetic Manipulation In Transgenic Rats
To effectively integrate the applications of optogenetics in a living organism, there needs to be
previous genetic manipulation to enable the rat to be receptive to optogenetic technologies. The
genetic manipulation involves creating transgenic rats. Transgenic manipulation involves the
movement or insertion of a gene in an organism that does not normally possess the gene. The gene of
interest is the gene for halorhodopsin, and to produce rats that possess this gene requires injecting a
DNA construct into a fresh embryo. A DNA construct is an artificially constructed segment of nucleic
acid that is transplanted in the cell. The DNA construct is usually constructed as a plasmid. The
construct must contain a DNA insert, which has the gene sequence ... Show more content on

The primary antibody is the antibody that will bind to the protein of interest. This is generated by
exposing the halorhodopsin protein to a rat so that an immune response of antibodies can be generated
and these antibodies are harvested from the rat. This antibody will bind to the protein of interest
during incubation. The detection, however, is done with the use of a secondary antibody generated
from another animal. When unbound primary antibodies are removed from the blotting sheet, the
secondary antibody can be used to detect bound primary antibodies. The secondary antibody will be
modified with a fluoresce tag that lights up when the secondary antibody binds with the bonded
primary antibody. If there is a detectable fluoresce signal, then there is the halorhodopsin protein
present in the blot. The amount of fluoresce indicates how much of the halorhodopsin gene is being
generated. With the confirmation that HaloX gene was properly inserted into the genome, pain testing

When studied to evaluate effectiveness according to the DSM diagnostic criteria, the so called autistic

ABC was only fifty four percent accurate. It is thought that a child from a minority will naturally have

The ABC as a standalone test does not take cultural differences into consideration and can lead to miss

Our translation almost seems to create key words in the lines that contain alliteration and assonance.

Answer #2 The Dream of the Rood:
The cross s narrative in The Dream of the Rood adhered to Anglo Saxon notions of heroism because
Jesus is depicted as a triumphant hero that defeats human sin which is startlingly unlike the actual
Biblical account. Essentially, poets in the Middle Ages put Jesus into the most popular box of the time,
the warrior box, in order to appeal to Pagans. Regardless, Anglo Saxon heroes were aggressive,

Ephesians Literary Analysis
Literary Context can be difficult to understand in Ephesians. The Literary Context of Ephesians
includes the Genre, context of not only the verse itself but also the section of the Ephesians it is in,
how Ephesians is laid out and where the verse fits into the book as a whole. Once a reader is able to
find and understand the parts of Ephesians the ability to go deeper is reached. Searching for why
authors had written what they did throughout history is where most of learning is accomplished. The
Genre of Ephesians is Epistle, or Letter. It is obvious to see that the genre is a epistle, or letter because
it not only says the Letter to the Ephesians but it also has the format of a letter. (Gaebelein, 19). Paul

Paul is using images of armor which was something that Ephesians knew what it was and were able to
relate to (Philips, 185). Paul uses various parts of armor as symbolism for how to use what God has
given us to be strong. Paul urges the Ephesians to believe that with these different tools that people
can be strong in the Lord and resist what the devil is tempting with. Within each verse Paul is showing
how Christians are able to stand up against Satan with the tools that God has equipped us with.
(Anders, Ephesians 6:10). Paul is demanding that the Ephesians use the full armor of God not only the
parts that they want to use, but the part as an entirety. (Phillips, 192 193) Paul shows the Ephesians
that they have specific uses and applications for each of the pieces of armor that he describes in verses
six through ten (Bruce, 135). He includes the belt, breastplate, shoes, and shield in his description of
the tools that God has prepared us with. Paul is telling the Ephesians that they are in battle against the
enemy but that we should not fear because God was equipped us with everything that we need.

Memi And Sambu Essay
Sculptures have been a part of human cultures for many centuries. They have been depictions of gods,
tell stories, honor spirits, and celebrations. Today many sculptures have helped tell the way of life and
history of prehistoric times. Sculptures can be described as the art of carving, modeling, welding, or
otherwise producing figurative or abstract works of art in three dimensions, as in relief, intaglio, or in
the round. (Dictionary.com, 2017)Two ancient sculptures include the Statue of Memi and Sabu and

Statue of Memi and Sabu is an Egyptian sculpture, or probably from Memphite Region, Giza, Western

limestone statue, which evokes the closeness of Memi and his companion, Sabu, a non royal couple in
a standing position. On the base of the statue, one would see that it does include inscripted lettering

would not engage in such a dear embrace. The sculpture is reactively small, according to Metropolitan

using zeolite in conjunction with Fenton s reagents in order to destroy p Cresol in an aqueous solution.
The results were compared to a homogenous system at a pH of 2.5 using iron salt with an equivalent
iron concentration of iron amended zeolite and the rate of degradation in the heterogeneous system
using the iron amended zeolite was found to be half. The area of interest would be to use this zeolite at
neutral pH, and it was found that the rate of degradation using the iron amended ... Show more content

Iron (II) reacts with hydrogen peroxide to produce a hydroxyl radical and is oxidized to Iron (III).
Upon decomposition of a second hydrogen peroxide molecule, a superoxide radical is produced and
Iron (III) is reduced back to Iron (II). The contaminants are primarily destroyed by the hydroxide
radical, as it is highly reactive and oxidative (2). As iron precipitates above a pH of 3, the reaction
halts, as the iron ions are not available to participate in this reaction. This renders the use of Fenton s
Reagents impractical, as it would require large amounts of acid to lower the pH to the range required
for this reaction. It would also require large amounts of base to raise the pH to a permissible value
required for discharge. This introduces large costs, and makes the process cost prohibitive. In order to
overcome this limitation, it was found that iron amended zeolites could be used to destroy chemicals
in water at nearly neutral pH (3).
Figure 1. Fenton s Reaction producing radicals while cycling iron.
Zeolites are materials composed of silica and alumina that contain micropores capable of adsorbing
chemical compounds. Zeolites are employed primarily to sorb contaminants from water and then
shipped off site. The zeolite must then be regenerated by a thermal process or through the use of an
advanced oxidation process, such as Fenton s Reagent. By varying the

Career Choice Teamwork
I would like to be apart of the staff team for a couple of different reasons. One being, I feel like I can
really help the server out, whatever is needed of me I will give my all, and help deal with cheaters,
spammers, etc. I have a ton of experience when it comes to being a staff member on a minecraft
server, and I especially know how to deal with people in a polite, respectful manner. I know what I am
doing and that is a key thing to know when you are becoming a staff member on a server. When I was
a staff member on previously Servers I think I did a good job. I was active. I also feel this way
because of my experience. I have served as a staff member multiple. I think I m capable of the job

believe I m mature enough to take this responsibility, I m willing to enforce arson rules to make it a

Ancient Roman Pottery Research Paper
Ancient Roman pottery revolutionized household pots and pans developing an arrange of table ware.
The Roman art began with Etruscan style pottery, all black, molded decorations on ceramic pieces,
unlike Greek pieces which was painted on. Pottery was manufactured near where the demand for the
product was for easy access. For example, areas in Southern Italy typical used black slip with a red
fabric over. For identification of trade, certain inscriptions and symbols were stamped into the pieces.
The Romans commonly used what is known as Black Glaze pottery. Other techniques of ceramic ware
were known as Thin Walled and Lead Glazed ware. Mass production of the ceramic pieces using
plaster molds became an extremely efficient and cheap way to

Challenges Of College Students
For first year students coming straight from high school, college life can either be very exciting or
overwhelming depending on how well one prepares for it. Some have the notion that college is fun
and is all about partying, while some believe that it is an environment in which they can achieve the
ultimate freedom thus escape the stringent rules made by their parents at home. Others look forward to
experiencing a different learning environment while being exposed to different cultures and sharing
different academic knowledge. Successful assimilation into college life is determined by the student s
capability to transform into the new role of a college student. Numerous students face challenges they
have never experienced before which can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allocating more time towards having fun rather than focusing on schoolwork or studying in general
also affects student s time management. Since they have every opportunity of flexibility with minimal
boundaries involved, there is the urge to enjoy the newfound liberty, and as a result, neglect of
assignments, deadlines bypassed and incompetent test results. For that reason, the commitment to
study is only realized when exams are approaching thereby causing panic to the student as the
realization that class materials have not been covered starts to arise. Finally, the most difficult
challenge students face in college is a financial hardship. Many students come from various walks of
life and sometimes determining one s financial capability to offset college costs during the early stages
of can be problematic. Some students come from well to do families who have a tremendous capacity
to pay full tuition without external assistance. These particular students do not require financial aid or
scholarships, as they can meet the institution s financial requirement regardless of what level in
college they may fall under as the source of wealth is derived from the family or families. Other
students, however, come from impoverished families whom solely depend on financial aid and work

Solitary On Juveniles
Dear: secretary general of the United Nation, After reading and doing some research of solitary on
juveniles here in the United States is a violation of human rights. I understand that there will be
behavioral to address when it comes to violations and gangs violence among juveniles. Is there
another way to address this behavioral instead of sending them to the solitary? Sending juveniles to
the solitary can bring lots of issues and become higher problems. Having juveniles in the solitary are
violating their human rights. They are not able to function well when they are in hold for more than 20
hours. Juveniles that are in the solitary are suffering from psychological damage that can caused
depression, panic attacks, obsessive thinking, anxiety, traumatizing and suicide thoughts.
Psychological damage is being exposed to the juveniles that are in the solitary. The brain of every
teenager starts to develop more as they are teenagers. Having a teenager in a solitary does not help
them developed the brain because they are in a small space and suffering from anxiety. Therefore, that
is considering violation of human rights. Juveniles are not able to function well when they are in a

Analyzing The Movie Top Gun
The first movie that comes to mind when I think of product placement is Top Gun. I personally do not
like this movie but my boyfriend watches it on a monthly basis which means so do I. Tom Cruise is a
big tough guy who enters The Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School to work on his pilot skills. He
consistently attempts to steal the attention of his beautiful flight instructor by trying to be a big shot
which causes tension with the rest of his team. The movie showcases Tom s incredible flight skills that
are extremely risking but very impressive. Once he gets ahold of his ego, he learns how to be a great
pilot, a great team player, and he even gets the girl. Because my boyfriend loves this movie so much,
he owns it on DVD and that is how we access the content. While it s the story that I don t enjoy, it
would be unfair if I didn t admit how attractive Tom Cruise is when he wore his leather jacket and Ray
Ban Aviator Sunglasses. His look is so iconic that it had greatly ... Show more content on

The Statute Of Frauds Act
Statute of Frauds Analysis
The Statute of Frauds acts as a sort of life insurance for permanent or relatively long term agreements.
The portion of the Statute examined herein deals solely with transfers of real property other than a
lease of less than one year s duration and the argument is made that the Statute should be extended to
include leases less than one year s duration despite the additional required time, effort and cost. Issues
of trespassing, neglect, adverse possession and disputed arguments of sale are identified and the
effects of the notions are analyzed though the lens of the Statute s expectations and requirements for
viability. The effects of this specific portion of the Statute of Frauds will be examined in regards ...

The levels of severity attributed to these processes would be variant based on the use of the property,
the duration and severity of neglect and the reason for the neglect. It does not seem reasonable that the
owner of a property would allow their asset to fall to such a state as described above, and in the
absence of the Statute of Frauds, this neglect may occur with increased regularity, accidentally. If there
were to be an unspoken dispute over who owns the land, a dispute where in the parties associated were
not aware of a dispute (sincere verbal transfer of real property received insincerely, or vice versa), the
property may fall to neglected because each party believe it was the responsibility of the other party to
maintain. Similarly, if a property were to exist without a building or structure, but simply became
overgrown so that massive landscaping or renovation would be required to make the property
workable or buildable again because of an unnoticed property dispute, the owner of a property would
suffer if he ever decided to renovate the property to its optimal condition or sale or use. The Statute of
Frauds For transfers of real property other than a lease of less than one year s duration protects the
earth from abuse, and though instances may be uncommon, it helps better preserve her for the use and
enjoyment of future generations.

An Analysis Of Lineup Proposal For The Belden Village Film...
It s All Ogre Now is proud to present our lineup proposal for this years Belden Village Film Festival.
Our line up includes a great variety of movies, all showing examples of our theme. The theme of our
movie lineup is It s what s on the inside that matters not what is on the outside. Meaning that when
people look at you and you look at other people the first thing noticed is almost always their
appearance. Instead of focusing on appearance, this doesn t make up a person, focus on who they are
on the inside and watch their actions instead. This will give you a much greater understanding and
idea of who the person is. Don t base your opinion of someone off of their appearance like the
characters in these movies start of by doing. Learn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

REVITAHIP Study Essay
Introduction and aim
Hip fractures result in a number of health related problems and even mortality among older people.
Hypovitaminosis D is one of the prevalent issues related to hip fracture. The REVITAHIP study is a
trial with multisite and randomized control investigating the effect of an initial loading dose vitamin D
on recovery consequences after hip fracture surgery. The aim of the paper is to compare the
REVITAHIP study with other studies using vitamin D to improve the rehabilitation after hip fracture
surgery based on the assessed baseline characteristics of participants, with a focus on hypovitaminosis
D.
Methods
Demographic and clinical data of the involved participants were collected before the trial. The trial
randomly allocated the participants who were aged over 65, from public hospitals in Australia and had
a surgery demand within 7 days after hip fracture into two groups. The two groups were provided by a
loading dose of vitamin D3 or placebo, followed by receiving oral calcium vitamin D combination
tablets and regular recovery pathway. The hypothesis about the relations between baseline vitamin D
level and other variables was examined by Person chi square test, ANOVA and regression analysis.

of some participants was still normal. Furthermore, the participants taking psychotropic medications

higher reported VRS pain rating leaded to a lower 25 OHD baseline levels, which can be a risk factor
for falling. The factors affecting 25 OHD levels were consistence with the factors affecting the activity

Special School Year Research Paper
Everyone can remember a special year of school that one school year that tops all of them, well my
special year was 8th grade. My reasoning for 8th grade being my favorite or special year is, because in
8th grade I had a lot of fun. To be specific I had many adventures like hanging out with friends outside
of school, going to block parties, going horseback riding, visiting a civil war museum, and going to
the school dance. If i m being honest I may have gotten into a fair amount of trouble like for example I
may or may not have lied for one of my close friends. My friend savannah decided it d be funny to

  • 2. Microsoft Swot Analysis Paper Founded in 1975, Microsoft is a global competitor , that is, a global corporation following a unified strategy to coordinate many national operations (Porter, 2011); is the oldest major producer of software for personal computers (PCs) and the world s largest software company with a strong, leading market share for its core products that make up over 80% of its revenue (Moody s, 2013). Microsoft entered the market at the beginning of the new global economy with an initial strategic intent (Macmillan Tampoe, 2000) to capitalise on software back in an era when PCs were too expensive for the retail market, and before PC standards existed. Microsoft launched its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in March, 1986 of 3.095 million shares opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an industry dominant force, the product lines are vast however there is an expectation from customers that Microsoft will be able to support and deliver products with the same consistency as though Microsoft were local to the customer. Early market domination allowed Microsoft to build huge momentum and gain dominant market share within the industry resulting not only in huge incomes but also opportunities in defining industry standards and best practices: when non existent, to create new standards and best practices; to cooperate within the industry to define and innovate; or even to challenge the industry and attempt to muscle past (Salop Romaine, 1999; Besen Farrell, 1994). Microsoft s products are essentially virtual platforms that provide integration within the vast ecosystem of IT, and broadly allow a high degree of customisation at many layers, or in other words, middleware, defined as software integration (Vinoski, 2002). 1.2 Market entry strategies Identify and explain your chosen organisation s market entry strategies Microsoft s original Big, Hairy and ... • 3. Success Rates of the Re-establishment of the Fynbos in the... Introduction The Tokai forest is currently under rehabilitation for the re establishment of fynbos after the commercial pine had been planted there 11 years to 23 years ago. The commercial pine was originally planted in the Tokai for commercial and industrial reasons, such as to make paper or wood for fire. On top of affecting the natural fynbos vegetation the pine was also jeopardizing the surrounding environment by starving the other plant life of the natural water resources. The cutting of the commercial pine is aiming to re establish the indigenous Cape Flats Sand Fynbos, that is naturally found in the Tokai vegetation. Research hypothesis question: The re establishment of the Cape Flats Sand Fynbos will be found in greater quantities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Background of commercial pine clearings: The clearings began in April 2005 where they started to cut down the Cecilia pines, type of pine tree in Tokai. (http://www.sanparks.co.za/parks/table_mountain/environment/tokai.php) This pine was for commercial use meaning it was always intended to be harvested for industrial uses, such making of paper. These pines were originally planted in 1885 and were fist harvested in 1920, where more of the same pine was planted 10 years after. Reasons for cutting the pines: The Cecilia pines were originally planted for industrial use, meaning that it was always going to be used as fire wood or turned to paper. It is also important to remember that the pines were an alien plant, preventing the indigenous fynbos to grow. The Cecilia pine specifically is as pine tree that consumes large sums water, restraining the other indigenous plants from a water source in the forest. By removing the pines water levels in local dams, streams and rivers should increase vastly. The pine tree is a very good heat and fire conductor, however their fire risk potential is increased by every specific pine needle on the forest bed. (http://www.waterrhapsody.co.za/2011/03/16/the cutting of pine trees in cecelia forest/) This creates a risk to neighboring forests and civilizations near by these pines because of the quickes rates these fires spread and increase putting all areas surrounding them in ... Does it mean helping someone get on the right track or is it about casting judgment or punishing a person for doing something wrong? Certainly discipline is misunderstood. In this article I want to give you a view of discipline that you may not have thought of and explain how to implement it with your team. Observations about discipline: Avoiding confrontation Many people don t like to discipline their employees because they view it as a form of confrontation which may lead to conflict. By the Greek definition, it s about helping someone use their energy efficiently to become more effective in their job. Discipline saves time and energy It makes more sense to take action and discipline someone than it does to waste time and energy thinking about it. There are five progressive stages of discipline that can be used with individuals and help a team use its energy more effectively. The process begins with simple communication and then builds in intensity of action and involvement by the manager until the person acquires the targeted skill or finds a new job. These progressive stages are designed to help the employee develop into an effective team member. They are not designed to judge or punish an employee. The manager must exercise compassion and interest in the welfare of the individual. 1. Communicate It s imperative that an employee understands completely what is expected of him. Perhaps in more economically advanced countries, cities to the inhabitants maybe a mere central business district, a place to commute to for work, a place of entertainment and shopping. But what about those third world countries, is the city seen as a place, for income which can help support the family leading them to a better future and perhaps even immigration; for these citizens is the city a place for trade and markets or somewhere where you can only dream of going to. • 6. The Ethical Theory Of The Election Of 2016 The election of 2016 was one of the most publicized political events of our nation s history. While the candidates in this year s election were more unconventional then years past, this election held an uncanny resemblance to elections of past years in the United States. The ethical and moral issues voters frequently take into account are as follows: race, culture, immigration and populism. Many ethical theories play into elections, on both the sides of the voters as well as the candidates. The ethical theory described is an approach or belief based off one s own morals or values. The ethical theory of Utilitarianism is often used in the decision making on both the voters part, as well as how the candidates will present their policies on their own beliefs. Ethical egoism is another alternative voters or candidates may use, believing the people self interest is more important. The ethical theory of Utilitarianism is defined as, the theory that one ought to maximize happiness and minimize the unhappiness of as many people as possible (Rosenstand G 6). John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham were two philosophers who supported and helped found the theory of Utilitarianism. On a contrasting note, the opposing ethical theory to utilitarianism is the ethical egoist theory or perspective. The ethical egoist perspective is the idea that everyone ought to be selfish or self interested (Rosenstand G 3). This theory supports the idea that all people should look out for ... Spanking started in Ancient Greece as a pagan practice and was later introduced to the Catholic Church. This practice in the church was used as a punishment for those who confess against their sins and realize they need their sins removed. This punishment continued throughout World War 2 as a means for teenagers to understand their sins had been removed. The Catholic belief comes from the Old Testament in the Bible and several still refer to this today. Spanking has also been prevalent in Victorian Europe coming from psychologist, Sigmund Freud s, theories. Freud had a theory known as the Oedipus and Electra Complex. This theory demonstrates the children were being sexually abused on a mass scale...in the very strict punishing environment in every home (Lutton, 2007). An American archetype is a person that represents universal American human patterns. People have said that the character Bartleby from Bartleby, the Scrivener demonstrates resemblance to an American archetype. The novella is set during the mid 1800 s on Wallstreet. During this time period there was a rise in change and the world was moving at a rapid pace. Bartleby struggle with change and relates to an American archetype by being lazy, stubborn and strong inside the work place. Bartleby is a very ignorant man who commonly refuses to do the simplest tasks. He would often be asked by his boss to copy down a legal document and he would just refuse. He resembles the human pattern of an American archetype that was unwilling to accept change. Bartleby displays his unwillingness to change when he is given the choice to either move out of his office or go to jail and says at present I would prefer not to make any change at all. (Melville 26) He believes that his life was perfect the way it was. This was commonly seen in America during the time period when you had a battle between the younger generation with new ideals and the older generation refusing change. The hypothalamus regulates important body s systems, the amygdala has to do with our emotions, the hippocampus helps us remember things, and the prefrontal cortex which enables personality expression and moderates social behavior, as Kandel portrays in his research. • 10. Conventional and Irregular Warfare Giulio Douhet, in his seminal treatise on air power titled The Command of the Air, argued, A man who wants to make a good instrument must first have a precise understanding of what the instrument is to be used for; and he who intends to build a good instrument of war must first ask himself what the next war will be like. The United States (US) military establishment has been asking itself this exact question for hundreds of years, in an attempt to be better postured for the future. From the Civil War, through the American Indian Wars, and up until World War II (WWII) the American military s way of war consisted of fighting traditional, or conventional, wars focused on total annihilation of an enemy. Since that time, there has been a gradual shift from the traditional framework towards one that can properly address non traditional, or irregular wars. While the US maintains a capability to conduct conventional warfare, the preponderance of operations where the US military has been engaged since WWII have been irregular wars. Therefore, this question articulated by Douhet, as to understanding the character of the next war in order to properly plan, train, and equip, is certainly germane to the current discussion of regular war versus irregular war. In today s fiscally constrained environment, the questions remains, which will dominate the future and therefore, garner further funding and priority. My Experience In Football Football has been a major part of my life for seven years now, it has also taught me many important life lessons never give up in difficult times, always work as a team and never put yourself first. During my years of playing, I ve gotten injured multiple times and I came back stronger but this time it ll be harder. On the third play of defense I shot off the line and barely slipped by the offensive tackle who aimed to take out my legs. I bolted down the line pursuing the ball carrier in a mass of offenders and I was getting ready to tackle the running back. I had planted my foot to help tackle the running back and all of a sudden the bottom part of my left leg crunched. I tried to get off the ground but it was difficult. I kept trying to stand up, but my leg wouldn t let me, it kept knocking me off of my feet. I eventually got up on my right leg and started hopping to the side line. The whole time I was screaming at the coaches to get me a substitute and I was cursing as well. I was about halfway to the sideline before I started crying, but I wasn t crying because it hurt, I was crying because this was my year to do the best that I ever had in football, my senior year. I got to the sideline and the coaches guided me to the bench and sat me down. The trainer Mike, Rachel, and one of the coaches kept telling me everything will be okay. I couldn t even listen to them. Her speeches and enthusiasm captured the attention of many, and this was important because she influenced the government to finally pass the 19th amendment which gave women suffrage in 1920. She powered through all the obstacles that were imposed on her. Later, her name went down in history. On February 15, 1820 in Adams Massachusetts, Susan B. She even made her speeches in the freezing cold, or possibly being pelted with food and snow. But even though her speeches helped the cause, the male africans getting suffrage in 1866 didn t. Though it was a good thing, Susan protested that it was unfair for africans to get suffrage but not women, which made the male abolitionists, whom she was acquainted with, turn on her because they thought she only was focused on women s rights. After this, she decided she would vote illegally. In 1872, she went to vote. They let her after she showed them a copy of the fourteenth amendment, which allowed citizens to vote. Three weeks later, Susan was unfairly arrested and the amendment was changed from allowing citizens to vote, to allowing male citizens to vote; this angered her very much. Many years later, Susan started a campaign for women s suffrage. She was going to win until a liquor company said it would ruin business. To make matters worse, Elizabeth Cady Stanton passed away in 1902. At her small funeral, she asked for a single picture to be placed on her casket. A picture of her best partner and friend, Susan B. Right away in the book, Walter s dream is to become the owner of a liquor store. When Walter came home from work one afternoon, he immediately asks Mama, did it come? (hansberry 70). • 19. Allied Strategic Bombing Analysis Strategic bombing is a military strategy used in total war, deployed with the goal of defeating the enemy, by destroying their morale or their economic ability to produce and transport material to the theatres of military operations. The four areas in which the significance of Allied strategic bombing will be assessed are: economic, diplomacy, morale and the effect it had on the fighting fronts in Europe. The First area of strategic bombing to be assessed is the effect it had on scattering the German military from their posted Fronts and the destruction of the Luftwaffe. The bombing raids on Germany drew defenses that were positioned on the Eastern Front and in other areas to try and counter the incoming Allie aircraft. German anti tank defenses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was only due to the collaboration between the British, the Russians and US; the third Front could be created. The third front tightened the relationship between the Allie countries and from then was able to work together in attempts to defeat the Nazis regime. Strategic bombing was only instigated because Churchill, who was already a major supporter of bombing, and Roosevelt did not want to re create the horrors from bombing civilians in the form of terror bombing from World War two. As well Stalin wanted a third front to keep pressured, menacing attacks on Germany, so a new front enabled a workload shift from the Russians to the rest of the Allies air force. The Casablanca conference, 21 January 1943 was a turning point in the effectiveness of allied bombing against Germany. At Casablanca, Churchill and Roosevelt agreed to give the heaviest bombing offensive against the German war machine. The combined leaders issued an order to the air forces to bring about the destruction and dislocation of the German Military, industrial and economic system and the undermining of the morale. This was done by the technique called Unconditional Surrender. This means that the winner of the war is eligible to control the enemies land and borders, and the defeated is given nothing. Diplomacy was the factor that controlled the bombing raids through the war. This increased the significance of bombing for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Dysbindin-1 Case Study Dysbindin 1 promotes Drp1 oligomerization Mitochondrial fission requires dynamin related protein 1 (Drp1). Drp1 is a large GTPase that can assemble into oligomers with enhanced GTPase activity. Drp1 is predominantly located in the cytosol and can be recruited to mitochondria to mediate mitochondrial fission by forming an oligomeric ring around the mitochondrial tubule to constrict and sever mitochondrial outer membranes 38 43. Having found that dysbindin 1 regulates mitochondrial fission, we proceeded to test whether dysbindin 1 is involved in the association of Drp1 with mitochondria. Cultured hippocampal neurons (DIV14) were transfected with the mitoDsRed plasmid along with the dysbindin 1 siRNAs, scrambled siRNAs, dysbindin 1C or 1A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mitochondrial fraction of sdy hippocampi contained more monomeric Drp1 and fewer higher order Drp1 oligomers than that of WT hippocampi, while the whole cell lysate of WT and sdy hippocampi had comparable amounts of monomeric and oligomeric Drp1 (Figure 4A C). These results indicate that dysbindin 1 is required for Drp1 oligomerization on mitochondria. Given that dysbindin 1C promotes the recruitment of Drp1 to mitochondria (Figure 3A C), we assessed Drp1 oligomers in cultured hippocampal neurons transduced with lentivirus expressing dysbindin 1C or 1A. Overexpression of dysbindin 1C, but not 1A, increased higher order Drp1 oligomers and decreased monomeric Drp1 in the mitochondrial fraction (Figure 4D F). Hence, dysbindin 1C promotes Drp1 oligomerization on mitochondria. How does dysbindin 1 regulate Drp1 oligomerization? Dysbindin 1 has been detected on mitochondrial outer membranes by electron microscopy 28. It is possible that dysbindin 1 binds to Drp1 to enhance its oligomerization. To test this possibility, we transfected HEK 293 cells with YFP Drp1 along with HA tagged dysbindin 1C or 1A, and used an anti HA antibody to immunoprecipitate dysbindin 1 at 2 days after transfection. Drp1 was detected in the immunoprecipitation product from cells transfected with dysbindin 1C, but not with 1A plasmid (Figure 4G), indicating that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. A Comparison Of Morality In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Frankenstein is a classic written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley that has captured readers imaginations since the nineteenth century. The moral of Frankenstein was that a lack of companionship will lead to self destruction. Lilo and Stitch, the Disney adapted version, has the same moral. Each teach the same, basic lesson that companionship and friends are generally positive things, yet they told different stories. Their stories, at first glance, are almost unrecognizable from each other. When comparing the two versions, one might ask how the morals remained the same despite the drastic alterations that Disney made. However, if one were to take a look at the changes that Disney made he or she would understand how. In Lilo and Stitch, Stitch (Disney s equivalent of Frankenstein s monster) is a protagonist while the monster is the antagonist in the original, Stitch makes friends whereas Frankenstein s monster suffers throughout the entire book without so much as a friendly gesture, and as a result, the endings are completely different as well. Both Frankenstein and Lilo and Stitch tell the same story of someone who created life and faced the consequences. The story by Shelley begins with letters from Robert Walton, a ship captain, to his sister; while on an expedition, Walton took in a man, Victor Frankenstein, who preceded to tell his life story, and, in doing so, told him that he created life. The Cost Of The Asset Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible assets that have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be allocated and depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as well as any possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only include the purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if applicable). Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an expense and does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow the asset to become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are acceptable methods used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s day to day operations to expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to prorating tangible and intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life of the asset. We are told to believe based on the previous ruminations of Costello, who outlines early in part I The Philosophers and the Animals section that animals do not possess reason, and as a result, animals cannot hope to comprehend the way in which the complex ecosystems that are present in the study of ecology in any meaningful way (Coetzee 137). While Costello s claims certainly present an interesting point, they are troubling and ultimately flawed in their approach. I strongly disagree with Costello s claim that animal are not believers in ecology because she is wholly enamoured with the idea of reason being an impossible judge of animal rights, going so far as to say that if reason is all she shares with her philosophical opponents, then she has no use for it (Coetzee 133). SNAP was created in 1969 to help combat hunger and improve the nutrition and health of low income families. Indeed, the federal government is acting irresponsibly and contributing to Americas obesity epidemic by allowing SNAP participants to purchase junk food, such as soda; therefore, sugary based beverages should be eliminated as an acceptable food item, expand knowledge regarding nutrition education and wellness programs and lastly, revise SNAP to meet current dietary guidelines and restrict unhealthy foods to benefit recipients. Today many sculptures have helped tell the way of life and history of prehistoric times. Sculptures can be described as the art of carving, modeling, welding, or otherwise producing figurative or abstract works of art in three dimensions, as in relief, intaglio, or in the round. (Dictionary.com, 2017)Two ancient sculptures include the Statue of Memi and Sabu and Seated Statue of Gudea, which have unique physiognomies. Statue of Memi and Sabu is an Egyptian sculpture, or probably from Memphite Region, Giza, Western Cemetery, which dates back to the Old Kingdom, Dynasty 4, ca. 2575 2465 B.C. It is a painted limestone statue, which evokes the closeness of Memi and his companion, Sabu, a non royal couple in a standing position. On the base of the statue, one would see that it does include inscripted lettering (The Met s Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, 2017) It could be interpreted that Memi and Sabu are a possible couple based on the intimate hug and his left hand on Sabu left breast. A non intimate couple would not engage in such a dear embrace. Matthew Potzler CHEE 569B Term Project Zeolite Based Sorbent Coated with Iron for Advanced Oxidation of Trace Organics in Treated Wastewater Abstract Zeolite with an iron loading of 0.11% was used in a set of experiments to determine the possibility of using zeolite in conjunction with Fenton s reagents in order to destroy p Cresol in an aqueous solution. The results were compared to a homogenous system at a pH of 2.5 using iron salt with an equivalent iron concentration of iron amended zeolite and the rate of degradation in the heterogeneous system using the iron amended zeolite was found to be half. The area of interest would be to use this zeolite at neutral pH, and it was found that the rate of degradation using the iron amended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Iron (II) reacts with hydrogen peroxide to produce a hydroxyl radical and is oxidized to Iron (III). Upon decomposition of a second hydrogen peroxide molecule, a superoxide radical is produced and Iron (III) is reduced back to Iron (II). The contaminants are primarily destroyed by the hydroxide radical, as it is highly reactive and oxidative (2). As iron precipitates above a pH of 3, the reaction halts, as the iron ions are not available to participate in this reaction. This renders the use of Fenton s Reagents impractical, as it would require large amounts of acid to lower the pH to the range required for this reaction. It would also require large amounts of base to raise the pH to a permissible value required for discharge. This introduces large costs, and makes the process cost prohibitive. In order to overcome this limitation, it was found that iron amended zeolites could be used to destroy chemicals in water at nearly neutral pH (3). Figure 1. Fenton s Reaction producing radicals while cycling iron. Zeolites are materials composed of silica and alumina that contain micropores capable of adsorbing chemical compounds. Zeolites are employed primarily to sorb contaminants from water and then shipped off site. The zeolite must then be regenerated by a thermal process or through the use of an advanced oxidation process, such as Fenton s Reagent. By varying the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The levels of severity attributed to these processes would be variant based on the use of the property, the duration and severity of neglect and the reason for the neglect. It does not seem reasonable that the owner of a property would allow their asset to fall to such a state as described above, and in the absence of the Statute of Frauds, this neglect may occur with increased regularity, accidentally. If there were to be an unspoken dispute over who owns the land, a dispute where in the parties associated were not aware of a dispute (sincere verbal transfer of real property received insincerely, or vice versa), the property may fall to neglected because each party believe it was the responsibility of the other party to maintain. Similarly, if a property were to exist without a building or structure, but simply became overgrown so that massive landscaping or renovation would be required to make the property workable or buildable again because of an unnoticed property dispute, the owner of a property would suffer if he ever decided to renovate the property to its optimal condition or sale or use.
