Analysis Of Geert Hofstede s Cultural Theory
Culture influences our expectations of what is appropriate or inappropriate and also learned and
reflects the values of a society. It frames our experiences and provides us with patterns of
behavior, thinking, feeling, and interacting. In summary, culture affects every prospect of daily
life how we think and feel, how we learn and teach, or what we consider to be beautiful or cross
grained. However, most people are unaware of their own culture until they experience another. In
fact, we don t regularly suppose about our culture until somebody violates a culturally supported
expectation or we find ourselves in a situation where we have the feeling that we violated somebody
else s cultural expectations, but are inconsonant how. II.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He characterized hierarchical society is a thought framework that is generally imparted between
authoritative parts. By separating out IBM s overwhelming corporate society from his
information on IBM s national auxiliaries, Hofstede had the capacity measurably recognized
social contrasts between nations. 1. Power/Distance (PD) This refers to the degree of inequality
that exists and is accepted among people with and without power. A high PD score indicates that
society accepts an unequal distribution of power, and that people understand their place in the
system. Low PD means that power is shared and well dispersed. It also means that society
members view themselves as equals. 2. Individualism (IDV) This alludes to the quality of the
binds individuals need to others inside the group. A high IDV score shows detached
associations. In nations with a high IDV score there is an absence of interpersonal association
and small imparting of obligations past family and maybe a couple of close companions. A
general public with a low IDV score would have solid gathering union and there would be a lot
of dependability and appreciation for parts of the gathering. The gathering itself is additionally
bigger and individuals assume more liability for one another s well being. 3. Masculinity (MAS)
This alludes to the amount of a general public sticks with and values, customary male and female
parts. High MAS scores are found in nations where men are required to be

Business Success For A Business
Business Success in the New Normal
For a business to succeed in today s global economy, it takes more than opening doors, turning on
phones or powering up computers. Today s businesses have to look beyond their local competition
and take into consideration global competition. Globalization s impact on business organizations
continue to grow. Therefore, today s businesses must take advantage of opportunities and make
their business more agile and responsive to the needs of their ever evolving consumer. Rhodes and
Stelter (2010) speaks to this change, ...the rapidly developing economies also will spawn a new
generation of competitors, or global challengers (para 9)

PESTLE analysis is a structure of macro environmental or external marketing environment factors
that can have an impact on a given business. The results of which can be used in conjunction with
other analytical tools such as SWOT analysis. This business measurement tool consists of six
factors: Political, Economic, Socio culture or Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental.
The first four factors are the basic portion of this analysis tool. The Legal and Environmental
factors are expansions of the technique as well as other factors such as Demographics and
Regulatory. The factors will vary in importance based on a given business industry. For example,
companies such as 7 Eleven may be seek social or economic factors whereas companies like HSBC
may consider political or legal factors.
Porter s Five Forces Framework
Porter s Five Forces Framework considers other factors. This model identifies and analyzes five

Abelard and Aquinas Essay
Peter Abelard was a renowned dialectician from 1079 to 1142. He subjected theological doctrines
to logical analysis. In other words, he used rational argument to discover truth. Saint Thomas
Aquinas, was a believer in the power of reason, giving St. Augustine s theory an alternate
approach. He taught in Paris and Italy during the years 1225 to 1274. Both of these new age
thinkers changed the way Catholic followers viewed the natural world.
Peter Abelard was one of the new thinkers that applied scholasticism to his theological aspects.
According to the excerpt Scholastic thinkers assumed that some teachings of Christianity, which thy
accepted as true by faith, could also be demonstrated to be true by reason (238). Peter ... Show more

His greatest work was
Summa Theologica. In this work he attempted to merge faith with reason, and the works of Aristotle
with the scriptures. Historically, he is seen as an alternate approach to St. Augustine s view of the
city of man versus the city of God. Augustine and Aquinas shared the belief that the original sin was
Adam and Eve s venture through the garden of good and evil. On page 239, Aquinas held that both
faith and reason came from God, they were not in opposition to each other; properly understood,
they supported each other.. He did not want people to shun the idea of reason, he wanted the world
to see that it was not evil. Combining Christianity with Aristotelian knowledge, he shed light upon
the difficulty to distinguish common ground between the natural world and the supernatural world.
The excerpt is divided into two different sections, Whether, Besides the Philosophical Sciences,
Any Further Doctrine Is Required? and Whether God Exists?. In the second section he proves five
ways God exists by using Aristotle s technique in philosophy, they are motion, nature of efficient
cause, possibility and necessity, the graduation to be found in things, and the governance of the
world. The way he words his logic is extremely confusing. For example, Now it is not possible that
the same thing should be at one in actuality and potentiality in the same respect, but only in
different respects. For what is actually hot cannot

Essay On Driving Under The Influence
Driving under the influence (DUI) is a serious criminal offense in Georgia. While most offenses
are considered a misdemeanor, drivers can still face serious consequences. This is why it is always
a good idea to contact a DUI lawyer immediately after being arrested.
What Is Considered a DUI?
In Georgia, drivers may be charged with a DUI if police suspect that someone is driving under the
influence. In most cases, you must have a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more. However,
it can be as low as 0.04 percent for those driving a commercial vehicle. For those under 21 years of
age, driving with an alcohol blood content of just 0.02 percent can result in a DUI.

In most cases, drivers are allowed to drive to their place of employment. They may also be able to
drive to dependency classes, community service, and doctor appointments. However, all driving
activity must be planned in advance.
Ignition Interlock Device
For those with multiple offenses on their record, the state of Georgia may require the driver to
install an ignition interlock device. This device might sound intimating, but it s actually a simple
tool. Before the vehicle will start, the driver must take a breathalyzer. If the device detects any
alcohol, the vehicle will start up. While it s simple enough, it can be overly sensitive. For example,
mouthwash or cooking brandy could trigger the device.
While both of these options will allow drivers to keep driving, they will minimize the chances of
receiving another DUI charge.
Getting Help
If you have been charged with a DUI in Georgia, you should hire a lawyer to fight by your side.
DUI cases are very serious offenses, especially in Georgia. For more information or general DUI

The direct result of this policy was that the company and franchisee outlets did not erode each
other?s revenue streams.
Wendy?s had a regulated system in place by which they offered technical assistance and
consultancy to franchisees. This enabled the franchisee outlets to overcome any teething problems
they might have otherwise experienced and instilled in them the philosophy underlying the
Wendy?s Way. As a commitment to supporting franchise owners, the Wendy?s Management
Institute was formed in December 1972 to develop management skills in restaurant managers,
supervisors and franchise owners. Such technical assistance and consultancy also ensured a degree
of standardization and uniformity across all the outlets, whether it was in the form of service
provided or restaurant layout and design.
Menu Unlimited? Despite its advantages, the limited menu meant that customers were restricted to
eating hamburgers and french fries, when the fast food industry was gradually encompassing a
larger variety of products. Management at Wendy?s realized the importance of extending
consumer choice and decided to abandon the limited menu concept by introducing the salad bar in
the late 1970s and baked potatoes in October 1983, making it the first fast food chain to do so on
a nationwide basis. This was done primarily in response to increased

Analysis Of The Article On Dumpster Diving
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are one of the best days for consumers in America, because
everything is on sale with an unbelievable low price. According to CNN Money, business made
over 50 billion dollars in the year of 2013 after these special sales event in America. In these
special occasions, people purchase product base on the recommendation of the media. When
consumers realized that they have no use of the product or an improved new product releases, the
old product will end up in a dumpster. Americans will create environmental problem and outbreak
of resource war if they continue wasting Earth s source base on their lavish lifestyle, in which it is
supported by their culture and the lack of appreciation. In the essay On Dumpster Diving, Lars
Eighner, as a homeless person, used his own life experience as a dumpster diver to reflect on the
wastefulness of American society. Eighner states, ...although if I could I would naturally prefer to
live the comfortable consumer life, perhaps and only perhaps as a slightly less wasteful consumer
owing to what I have learned as a scavenger (88). He pointed out how Americans are not a
consumer, but a waster from a scavenger s perspective. The comfortableness of the consumer life
makes Americans think that their wasteful action is appropriate. Eighner also points out how
American, specifically adolescents does not appreciate the things that they possess. Americans are

The hijacked plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade center at 8:46 am (9 11
Research Flight 11). At around the same time that Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower, it was
confirmed that another plane, United Airlines Flight 175, had been hijacked. Flight 175 left the
Boston Logan Airport at 8:14 am, which was about 16 minutes after it was scheduled to depart.
At 8:42, the plane had gone off its planned course and started to fly south. The plane flew
southwest as it crossed the Hudson River, it kept going to New Jersey until it was southwest
from New York. The plane then made a sharp turn to the northeast so that it could approach the
World Trade Center from the southwest. Flight 175 collided with the South Tower of the World

that day were well documented. The U.S. government tried to get into contact with Flight 11 once
there was the possibility of a hijacking was evident. Air control towers tried repeatedly, but were
unsuccessful at gaining contact. Once it was confirmed that the plane was hijacked, it was too late
and the plane had already crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. People have
come to believe that some unnamed US officials were behind the attacks. They think that the
hijackers were hired by the United States to take over those planes and make it look like a terrorist
attack. Others think because when the government found out

Pros And Cons Of Commerce Clause
The Commerce Clause grants Congress the power [t]o regulate commerce with foreign nations, and
among the several states, and with the Indian tribes. Despite its silence as to the effect of that
affirmative power, federal courts have recognized the Framers wish to create a unified national
market and have found a dormant congressional authority in it. Since the landmark case of Gibbons
v. Ogden (1824), that dormant authority has limited state regulations that burden interstate
commerce, even in the absence of congressional regulation. Congress has the power only to restrict
the scope of permissible state regulation but it does not absolutely preclude states from affecting
commerce. [T]he states retain authority under their police powers to regulate matters of legitimate
local concern , even though interstate commerce may be affected. A challenged statute is upheld if
its effect on interstate commerce is merely incidental. On the other hand, a state regulation that is
facially or practically discriminatory will be defeated unless it shows a legitimate local purpose that
cannot be accomplished by any less discriminatory alternatives.
Efficient use of natural resources has acquired a particular significance among other issues
undergoing the Commerce Clause review since it concerns both the individual states and the nation
as a whole. Congress fosters it by encouraging an unrestricted flow of goods across state lines and
by prohibiting states from engaging in economic

The Death Of Lady Macbeth
We begin with one of Shakespeare s most beloved and tragic plays, Macbeth. Set in 11th century
Scotland there is more than one logical way to interpret the signs, symbols and themes of this
intriguing story. There is more than one mystery and obscurity in this play that seems to be left
open to the interpretation and imagination of the reader. One compelling occasion in particular is
that of the death and supposed suicideof Lady Macbeth. Many critics, readers and other interpreters
have discussed the subject from either side. Some believe that there is evidence to support that the
cause of Lady Macbeths death was suicide. Although some suspect otherwise and argue for the fact
that her death was caused by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nothing in the text is tied with sentiments of melancholy or despair. At this point Malcom s
forces are not yet gathered and she has no reason to fear losing her crown or anything else for
that matter. Then was it just guilt that caused her to sleep walk? Come, you spirits that tend on
mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top full of direst cruelty.
Make thick my blood. We observe here that she is summoning spirits of villainy and sin, to give
her the capabilities and strength to commit cruel and wicked acts. Equally she has demanded
that she would be cruelty itself. Likewise, she has more or less disposed of her soul to the evil
one. All the devil yearns for is your soul, and with Lady Macbeth sleep walking with cubibility
and dread through the house, it seems quite likely that this could be the devil working through
her. Then the subject of possession comes to mind, although whether she was possessed or not is
another topic entirely. Therefore it was not her guilt and hypothetical depression, that led her to
suicide. Uniquely as seen throughout the story that Lady Macbeth was a very strong willed and
persistent woman, but despite all of this she still displayed inidcations of weakness in certain
areas of her character. First of all we may take make note that right before Ducun s murder, Lady
Macbeth has prepared or sets ready the daggers for her husband to do the deed and gives the

Nursing Home Abuse Essay

population that is not able to help itself is being harmed, whether it is physical or sexual abuse,

Statistics
Anyone can abuse a nursing home resident from their nurses to their own family members.
There has only one been national study to try to explain who abuses residents more, according
to the NCEA(2011), and at approximately 90% of them were abused by family members. Just as
well abuse can occur anywhere from their own houses to nursing homes. According to a study
from 2000, 2,000 residents were polled and 44% of them stated they had been abused. Other
research from the NCEA states that persons with dementia are at a much higher risk for abuse. A
study that had been conducted in 2010 revealed that 47% of elderly with dementia had been
abused. Abuse definitely takes an impact on these people. Statistics, again from NCEA, have
shown that elders who have been abused have a 300% higher risk of death over those not abused.
They also have many more psychological and medical problems than a non abused person.
Cases of Abuse There are have been many cases of nursing home and elder abuse nation wide

Before technology such as the Happylife Home was integrated into the Hadley s life, George
was in charge of the household and his children were obedient. The question of Hart is, what has
happened to George, once ruler and lord of his household? (Hart), is technology has taken over
his position and the children do whatever they want. They do not care about respecting their
parents because technology is so superior compared to them. An example of the disobedience is
shown during a conversation between Peter, Wendy, and George; Run see and come tell. She

telling his sister Wendy to come over where he is and she obeys. After that, Wendy s dad tells her
to come outside of the nursery but this time she does not obey. George tries to get his kids to obey
him more than the nursery but fails miserably. Her level of respect for her brother is higher than
the respect to her father s. This displays how harmful the nursery is for the children. Peter and
Wendy are the children of George and Lydia Hadley. They obey technology more than their parents.

Steven Katz Essay
The debate in the academic study of mysticism between Steven Katz and Robert Forman primarily
refers to the origins and essence of mystical experiences. Katz s argues that, There are NO pure (i.e.
unmediated) mystical experiences (Katz, 26). Additionally, Katz articulates the problem of
interpreting and verifying mystical experiences, thus alluding to the issue of whether or not
mystical experiences can be classified. Comparatively, Robert Forman argues for the existence of
what he refers to as Pure Consciousness Events (PCEs), whereby mystical experiences extend
beyond language and culture. Each argument has its merits, however, I contend that Forman s
argument is the most articulate and accurate. Katz asserts that the major problem of... Show more

Although Katz does not deny the existence of mystical experiences, he suggests that there is no
scientific evidence upon which to classify and categorize experiences. Katz uses constructivism to
argue his analyses. The concept of constructivism maintains, people construct their own
understanding and knowledge of the world, through experiencing things and reflecting on those
experiences (Educational Broadcasting Corporation). Moreover, Katz suggests, all experience is
processed through, organized by and makes itself available to us in extremely complex
epistemological ways (Katz, 26). Essentially, Katz insists that people do not have mystical
experiences that differ from their spiritual or religious beliefs and practices. Katz states, ...in order
to understand mysticism it is not just a question of studying the reports of the mystics after the
experimental event but of acknowledging that the experience itself as well as the form in which it
is reported is shaped by the concepts which the mystic brings to, and which shape his experience
(Katz, 26). For Katz, this argument denies claims of mystical experiences any reliability. Therefore,
one may question how

Generally speaking this course led me to contrast the Wesleyan doctrine with specific questions
raised by opposing theological viewpoints. The real world scenarios presented in the weekly
assignments provided valuable context to the application of biblical interpretation to answer
questions concerning details of the hope Jesushas promised. These inquiries ranging from limits of
justification and gifts, to the biblical truth regarding the Church here and in the next life, will
continue to be of great value as I am utilized to make disciples of all people.
To begin, week one s position paper challenged me to dig at the underlying reason many would be
afraid they have committed the unforgivable sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. I asserted the root
of the issue is not that one is a believer who is tormented by committing an unforgivable sin; it is
a lack of faith that Christ has forgiven all their sin. The scenario given was not unfamiliar to me
of a person who believes Jesus is Lord, but due to lack of knowledge cannot trust Jesus as their
Lord. Though the initial scenario dealt with salvation, I can apply the same lack of faith being
an issue in any area of my own life. I have recognized that areas of struggle in my own life have
persisted due to a lack of faith in the process, even though I had faith in salvation. Realizing that
until I stand in faith specifically for the situation at hand, many times I will not possess the
breakthrough I have prayed for. I was reminded through this assignment that often the stated issue
is only an effect of a deeper dilemma. The lack of trust situation, as well as the accompanying
scenario regarding spiritual gifts, was caused by Scripture received out of context. The stance as to
why someone would be scared they are beyond God s forgiveness due to blasphemy would be
based on translations of: Mark 3:29, Matthew 12:31, Luke 12:10 not taken in context with the rest
of scripture. I concluded the misunderstanding of the gifts of the Spirit, was a case of cherry
picking scriptures by the subject to substantiate his view point. I found applying Wesley s teachings
of contextual study of Scripture to such a real world situation of great practical value (Oden, 2012,

Background Of Organic Agriculture
Organic agriculture
Background of organic agriculture
Organic agriculture started in the early twentieth century, mainly in Europe, but also in the United
States. The term organic farming came from the term humus farming which emerged from soil
management. The term organic was first used by Northbourne (1940). Northbourne used the term
to characterize farms using humus farming methods because he believed that the system imitates
the flows of nutrients and energy in biological organisms.
Organic agriculture became visible on a wider scale in the 1960s, when farmers and consumers
became concerned that the number of chemicals used in crop and animal production could have
negative consequences for human health and the environment. Therefore, the word organic was
intended and used to describe a process and method that is considered as environment friendly
because of the sustainable fundamental principles such as: the lack of chemical use, the desire to
reverse erosion, soil depletion, decline of crops varieties, low quality food and livestock feed, and
rural poverty (Kuepper 2010).
What is the meaning of USDA Certified Organic
The fact that organic produce may not be distinguished from conventional products at a glance; a
set of standards such as a third party certification is needed. Organic produce certification is the
process according to which public or private certification bodies provide assurance that organic
products have been produced and handled according to

Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus s Contributions
Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus was born around AD 70, and by the early 90s he had moved to
Rome and thus begun his scholarly studies that became one of his chief occupations (Rives xviii).
Here in Rome he acquired his patron and benefactor, Gaius Plinius Secundus, who had a very
successful public career and was known well for his collection of letters that Suetoniusmakes his
first appearance in, as an advocate (xviii). Plinius remained his benefactor for fifteen years; from
his letters we can see that Suetonius had an interest in pursuing a public career (xviii) and that he
had a great interest in scholarly and literary pursuits (xix). The fullest account of his scholarly

It is clear that Suetonius favored Augustus over the other Caesars, and in large part due this is
due to his more thoughtful, and responsible use of his power and army. Yet Augustus never
wantonly invaded any country, and felt no temptation to increase the boundaries of the empire
or enhance his military glory... (Suetonius 53). Clearly Augustus was not greedy with his power
and felt no urge or need to extend his power or to greater his military power, he valued and
favored peace, fairness, and wisdom; which is clearly shown here, Even when tribes rebelled
frequently or showed particular ill faith, Augustus most severe punishment was to sell as slaves
the prisoners he took... (54). The two faults in which we condemned most strongly in a military
commander were haste and recklessness (56). This thoughtfulness and wisdom earned Augustus
high honor in Suetonius report in regard to his Military skills. In sharp contrast to Augustus;
Caligula had an urge for war, a desire for it to happen if you may. The prosperity of his own
reign, he said, would lead to it s being wholly forgotten, and he often prayed for a great military
catastrophe.., (162). He once, at the realization that the chance for war were slim to none for him,

THE CARIBBEAN PLATE Evolution and Origin Ronald Gobin B00673944 Erth 4350 Professor:
Nicholas Culshaw December 6th 2016 Introduction The following report will introduce the topic of
the Caribbean plate and its evolution, origin and the active physical process within tectonic
environments. The Pacific model will be discussed in this paper, and assumes the formation of the
Caribbean plate at the Galapagos hotspot in the Pacific Ocean during the Middle Cretaceous.
Regional Setting The Caribbean plate is a lithospheric plate consisting mainly of an unusually thick,
oceanic plateau situated between two major continental regions, such as North and South America.
The Caribbean plate is roughly 3000 km from east to west, and 800 Km from North to South and
2.64 million Km^2 area (James, Lorente, Pindell, 2009). There are four marine areas present such
as the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, the Yucatan basin, and the Cayman trough, which are within
the surrounding of the Caribbean plate and its islands. The Cocos Plate, North American Plate,
Nazca Plate and the South American Plate surround the Caribbean plate (Figure 1) (HARGRAVES,
1984). Boundaries of Caribbean Plate are from Guatemala along trend of the Cayman Trough,
through the greater Antillean islands Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, south through the volcanic arc of
the Lesser Antilles that bound the Caribbean plate to the east, along the northern South American
continental margin, and the west coast of

Sickle Cell Essay
What is Sickle Cell Anemia? Sickle Cell disease is a blood disorder that is inherited. By
inherited I mean passed down from parents to their children. Babies are usually born with sickle
cell disease. When they inherit two abnormal genes, one from each parent. Abnormal genes cause
the body s red blood cells to change shape. This being the effect of having sickle cell disease.
Normal red blood cells are shaped likes discs or donuts. Normal red blood cells are soft and flexible
so they can move easily through very small blood vessels throughout the body and deliver
oxygen to the body. Sickle cells are much different than normal red blood cells. Sickle cells are
stiffer, also instead of disc shapes they re curved like crescent moons, or an old ... Show more

Jaundice can cause a person s skin and whites of the eyes to develop a yellowish tint. It is also
common for people with sickle cell anemia to have a hard time fighting infections. Teens with
sickle cell anemia grow more slowly and reach puberty later then other normal teens and people.
Having sickle cell anemia can cause people to feel severe pain at times in their stomach, arms,
legs, or other parts of their body. Periods of pain are referred to as pain crises. Depending on the
person you never will know how severe the pains are, how long they last, or even how often they
happen. Some people can have the crises happen more often than others. The crises can either be
brief or last for hours, days, or even weeks. Sometimes the pain can be so intense to require
hospital treatment. Sickle cell shaped blood cells block blood vessel. Blocking blood vessels
can include the cause of leg ulcers, bone or joint damage, gallstones, kidney damage, painful
long lasting erections in males that is known as priapism, eye damage, and delayed growth. Also if

The Prelude by William Wordsworth
Man s journey through life is poignantly influenced by the perspective he embraces. A perspective
acts as a lens to view the world, swaying one s way of thinking and decision making. This
perspective is constantly tested by the prolonged process of maturation that continues with age. The
Romantic period ceded a break from intellectual conformity towards emancipation; it marked a
radical shift in popular thinking, resulting in the growth in the value of literature, art and nature.
Young Wordsworth s life during this inquisitive time establishes a unique context in which to
describe the relation between one s experiences and one s developing views. Wordsworth s life

Though the early 1800 s mark the peak of Romanticism, ironically, they also mark the time of the
Industrial Revolution. The love of humanity and nature present in Romantic thought is juxtaposed
by increasing urbanization and entrepreneurship in Great Britain. Unique to Wordsworth, he is able
to relate to not only the Romanticism spreading in France, but the rise of industrialism in Great
Britain. The contrast present between these two movements forces Wordsworth s opinions to
culminate in a more convicted worldview. Following Wordsworth s life of simplicity in London, his
return to France marks the beginning of the most influential development of his perspective.
Wordsworth s connection to the French Revolution largely shapes his views of man and tests his
optimism of man s true nature. During his visits to sites like the Bastille and the Palais Royale
intricately connected to the French revolution contrasting emotions of hope and fear emerge into
Wordsworth s thinking. Wordsworth s political views further develop as he grows in relationship
with his favorite French officer, Beaupuy. The two speak of humanity, politics, and history and their
conversations allow the reader to more easily comprehend Wordsworth s perspective of man. The
conversations between Wordsworth and Beaupuy over humanity communicate Wordsworth s
respect and idealization of Beaupuy s character. He describes Beaupuy as a,

Feed By M. T. Anderson Analysis
Today s society is fueled by marketing and consumerism, which is detrimental to our environment.
Throughout the novel Feed, M.T Anderson uses a futuristic society as an scathing indictment of our
current consumer habits. This is best demonstrated by the use of multiple related themes. Many
abrasive marketingtechniques used by multinational conglomerates are designed to prey on middle
and working class consumers. Thus creating a higher demand for product manufacturing. This
higher demand in return increases environmental pressures, due to an unregulated private
manufacturing sector.
Two relevant themes that relate to each other are Because it is built into things we use every day,
marketing is inescapableВЁ and Negligent consumerism is destructive to the environmentВЁ.
These two themes relate to each throughout novel. With that being said, marketing is widely
demonstrated all through our daily lives because of the modern societal use of products that are
brought to our attention day in and day out. Whereas abrasive marketing tactics become more
prevalent in the average consumer s daily habits. The draconian nature behind marketing is easily
forgotten. With marketing comes consumption, with mass marketing comes negligent consumption,

They did not fight for the miracle worker to avoid his death. They simply punished this man for
no reason at all. He lived the perfect life and brought people to the Lord. So for Jesus to be put to
death by the people they abandoned him. They left his side and left him to suffer on the cross.
On the cross was where Jesus died a miserable death and suffered greatly. The last thing described
by Bonhoeffer was that the cross represents guilt. He described how Jesus was the bearer of all
sins for humans. Now Christians become the ones who bare other individuals sin and guilt. To
sum up the cross it has many meanings and it signifies a lot in Christian religion. After
Bonhoeffer finished writing about the cross he wrote about discipleship and the individual. This
is about how God made people as individuals. God made us to be alone and be lonely. He did this
so we would have someone to go to in these lonely times and this person is Jesus christ and God.
In this chapter Bonhoeffer really discusses how we being individuals need to accept Jesus Christ
the mediator. Back to the issue of Jesus bearing all of our sins it truly shows how caring and
how much he values our lives. If Christ is willing to die for us and our sins we should at
minimum bring him into our lives. We should recognize what he did for us and live in a way
where he can shine through us. So by God creating us as lonely individuals we should be able to

Similarities Between The Alamo And The Battle Of San Jacinto
The Battle of Two Paintings
Remember the Alamo! This instantly iconic decree of hope and patriotism was yelled by Texan
soldiers as they fought in the Battle of San Jacinto, the deciding battle in the Texas war for
independence. The battle only lasted eighteen short minutes, and it was a Texan victory, causing
them to gain independence from Mexico. Those two events, the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle
of San Jacinto, inspired many people in many different ways, including Henry Arthur McArdle.
McArdle was a painter who would go on to paint two very famous paintings, The Battle of San
Jacinto and Dawn at the Alamo. While both of these paintings depict very similar scenes and have
the same techniques and composition, there are differences in both that make each painting unique.

My Experience With Hearing Loss
For eight hours, I got to step into the shoes of over 48 million Americans who live with a hearing
loss. I had the opportunity to experience what it means to have an invisible impairment in a world
made for those who have good hearing. The bright orange earplug served as my ticket to one of the
most humbling adventures I have ever undertaken. I would have never imagined that a 32dB
unilateral hearingloss would cause so much frustration. With frustration, however, came
understanding and empathy. I am now confident that my experience will aid me in developing
accurate expectations and treatment plans to my future clients. I, like many, know several
individuals with a hearing loss. I have seen the devastation a hearing loss can cause for someone
who is used to experiencing the many joys of clear sound. As I placed the earplug in for the first
time, I braced myself. I immediately compared my temporary hearing loss to those with a
permanent hearing loss and could only think about how challenging my life was going to be for the
next few hours. I knew that my communicationskills were going to be impaired and my value as a
communication partner was going to take a nosedive. One of the senses that I rely on every day
was reduced and it felt like a part of me was missing. While I have experienced small hearing
losses due to cerumen buildup, this was by far one of the most severe losses. As I went through

The article concludes that the debate about FVA is full of arguments that do not hold up to further

The article concludes that trade off between transparency and financial stability as well as the
interactions between accounting and prudential regulations needs further analysis and suggest areas

The Effect Of White Privilege
Before I modify or add to Mcintosh s daily effects of white privilege, I think it important to
explain the view point that I was brought up in. This is not intended to be racial, as some could
turn it into but I think that my perspective as a 55 year old white male raised in southeastern
Ohio needs to be considered. I lived through the 1960 2, and went to school with only 1 back

ever. Although I have family who have worked for companies that use affirmative action. They
have watched as people got hired because of color, and then took advantage of it. They would
sleep on the job, and not do their assigned work, just because they knew that the company would
not fire them in order for the company to maintain a certain level of minorities , both people of
color, and women. And if you were both a women and a person of coloryou had what would amount

Donnell March 16th, 2015 Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo is a classic movie of the mystery genre.
The film takes what appears to be a relatively conventional mystery plot and enacts a process
whereby it proceeds to continually fold it within itself in order to develop a film that appears to
change its nature several times, but that nonetheless continues to perpetuate a sense of mystery.
Indeed, in many ways the experience of watching Vertigo is the experience of seeing something
essential about the world unravelling; something that both applies and does not apply to the
events of the film itself. This paper will consider Vertigo as a mystery film, but will also show
how the film transcends this genre, or distils it to such an extent that even when the mystery at its
centre has been resolved, it nonetheless remains almost as unfathomable at is was at start of the
film. In essence, the film not only presents the reconciliation of a mystery within its plot but
essentially dramatizes the ineffably mysterious nature of reality itself. This paper will
demonstrate this by paying attention to key scholarship around Hitchcock and psychoanalysis.
Vertigo was made in 1958, at the height of Alfred s Hitchcock s fame as director and can be
considered to be a seminal example of his film making. It was influential in terms of its use of
complex plotting and also its

Freshwater Fishing Vs. Fresh Water Fishing
Salt water fishing vs fresh water fishing Remember when you were a little kid waking up at 5 in
the morning just to go fishing. You re just hoping that today will be the day to catch the big one.
You re out there just waiting for something to hit your line. No matter whether salt water fishing or
fresh water fishing, it will meet every fisherman s or woman s dreams. It doesn t matter if you re
out on the lake or on the ocean, you are always guaranteed to have a good time and make
memories. When fishing either salt water or fresh water you think about what kind of fish you
are trying to catch. One of the most commanded fish fresh water fish people think of is catfish.
They can range from 1 pound up to 60 pounds depending on how old they are. Catfish spend
most of their time swimming on the bottom of lakes or rivers and they will usually eat
everything. Catfish are usually dark in color, so dark that they look brown. If you re more into
the sport side of fishing, the first kind of fresh water fish you think about is a large or small
mouth bass. They usually like to chase their prey down, but they don t wonder to far from their
home. These fish lie around the bank waiting for a chance to eat. Bass color markings usually
consist of bright and light green. The weight range of bass can be between a one half pound to
ten pounds. An example of salt water fish is Mahi Mahi. They are very bright in colors; they vary
from dark blue, to light yellow, to spots of green. A

Color In The Great Gatsby
The Colors of Life The helpful acronym ROY G. BIV is used to aid in the remembering the
order that the colors appear in the rainbow. Colors are everywhere: the flowers that grow along
the sidewalk, the shirts that we wear, the cars on the road, and the environment around us. Colors
even have the ability to relay information to us, for example, whether it will rain or not based on
the colorof the sky and clouds, no to touch a snake if certain colors touch, or even is someone is
angry based on the color of their face. Colors are a main focus point in The Great Gatsby, written
by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and are used to express emotions and events of specific characters. A small
but very important color in The Great Gatsby is the color green.

Christianity In Beowulf Essay
In the epic Beowulf, there were references to both paganism and Christianity. Many people are
aware of Christianity, but some may find paganism more difficult to comprehend because they
aren t completely aware of what it is. To clarify, paganism is a religion that was practiced during
and after the Middle Ages when the monks orally performed epics, such as Beowulf. Pagans do not
worship one God, but instead they worship several gods, often referred to as polytheism. Pagans
also base their religionand practices off of nature, their cultural backgrounds, or their location. They
believe that all natural objects own souls and that humans should live in harmony with nature as
well. In Beowulf, we were introduced to a civilization that originally worshiped pagan gods but had
recently converted to Christianity. However, we can clearly observe in section two of the epic that
the poet(s) of the epic were not completely trustful of either religion. This causes me to interpret
that the civilians during that time may have obtained mixed feelings about the varied religions. It
also reveals that the civilians may have been curious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christianity began among a few Jews who refused to worship various Roman gods. It wasn t
until the Middle Ages that Christianity became more widespread. The Pope of Rome is credited
with playing a large role in the transformation of the Anglo Saxon community from paganism to
Christianity. Some children at the time were even encouraged to become nuns or monks. The
boys who were taught to be monks read biblical scriptures and strengthened their faith in God.
Monks, such as those young boys, practiced the worship of God which is why they likely added
Christian values to Beowulf while they transcribed Beowulf. The objective of a monk is to
influence and persuade other civilians to believe in God, thus being another reason to add Christian
values to the text of

capture that audience attention to her. The she makes a clear purpose statement about how people
are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She tells the audience her plan to inform,
describe, demonstrate, persuade, memorialize, and entertain. After that, she establishes the topic
significance by making the listeners care when she explained about Haitian immigrants who are
living in the United States now and even though most of them suffered from physical and mental
trauma back in their country, all that weight carried over to the new country.

Examples Of Nick s First Words In The Great Gatsby
What do you think makes a good first impression? A good handshake, eye contact, the way they
are dressed? Authors of books will often use first impressions to show personalities of a
character. F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of those authors. In his book, The Great Gatsby, he uses first
impressions of the characters presented to us to show their personality and how they may act or
be portrayed as in the book. Nick and Daisy both have impressions that are crucial to the story.
When Nick, the main character and narrator, speaks his first words in the book, his first words
show the audience that he is someone who doesn t let go of things as quickly as others and will
always remember what you say. Nicks first words are on the first page of the

experimental, cross correlational survey: The investigators used a self administered questionnaire
from a convenience sample. The sample size consists of 117 women between the ages of 25 to 76
years with possible breast cancer who had undergone a breast biopsy under local anesthesia.
Literature findings. The key findings from this study were patients with a reasonably good

Reynolds Cycle Technology, a manufacturing company based in Birmingham, England. It is
composed of several elements solely including iron, carbon, chrome and molybdenum but also
includes silicon, copper and manganese. The Steel s physical properties include a stiffness level
similar to mild steel. With the addition of chrome and molybdenum the steel can be strong enough
to butt or be thinned down in the middle, thus making the material lighter. It has an excellent
strength to weight ratio obtained from heat treatment used in its formation. The heat treatment used

It is half as stiff as most steels though is half as dense making it 20% lighter than steel. For stiff
titanium frames it is required to have a larger diameter, than comparable steels, though not as
large as aluminum. The frame is also very corrosive resistant. With the addition of silicon the
alloy can obtain significant grain refinement and it can be said that titanium alloys have a perfect
balance of properties for frame building. Welding must be done carefully to avoid contamination
and machining must be done precisely. Titanium is very reactive to atmospheric gases and can
result in degradation in the material. Titanium is weldable in annealing conditions but provide
limited weld ductility and heat affected zone ductility. It can also be significantly strengthened by
cold working. Due to titanium being rather expensive it is rarely used for cycles. It is expensive
not only because of the material costs, but also because of the care and time that must be put into
the welding process. 7005 Aluminum Like the Reynolds X100, 7005 Aluminum is an aluminum
alloy but consisting of Zinc and Magnesium. Due to its cost and inconvenience of heat treating,
7005 aluminum has gained considerable popularity with smaller companies. 7005 Aluminum has
similar properties to the Reynolds X100. It is seen as the second most common material and is
most likely to overtake steel as most popular material used for frame design. It is 12% stiffer and

Online Education Vs Online Schooling
Online schooling has become more popular than in the past. Schools are even incorporating hybrid
classes that offer in class and online features. Some students think online school is easier than the
alternative, while others participate in online schooling for the convenience. The main three topics
that are talked about when comparing the two are the social aspects or participation, curriculum,
and time management. Online courses allow students to learn at their own pace and complete
assignments and tests just like they would in a traditional school. Both schooling options require
participation, have a curriculum, and require time management. While both school setups have the
same general principles, the way they are ____ can be different. Both online and classroom based
schooling have social interaction. Both options can contain group work, discussions, and some sort
of social interaction between instructor and students. However, in a traditional school setting;
students participate in class discussions, ask questions, participate in group work, ect. The
drawback to this is the fact that students are not necessarily forced to participate in class. Some
students are too shy or just unwilling to contribute. They may not ask questions or participate in
group work. Because of this, class might seem unbalanced and some students may feel like they
carry the load of a group assignment more than others. On the contrary, online schooling doesn t
have face face contact. If a

Disney Movies Advantages And Disadvantages
Alternatives
Disney s tentpole strategy has been fairly successful throughout the Disney Studios lifetime. Even
though this strategy worked in the past it may not be the best strategy moving forward, as there are
advantages and disadvantages to this strategy. One advantage of this strategy is that the tentpole
films attract movie going customers that think of the movies more as an event rather than just a film
they want to see. A $200 million movie is more likely than a $20 million movie to have elements
that appeal to moviegoers to have special value for them. , said Horn. Just as with any bet, there
could also be a risk and disadvantage. If the film fails, they would both have to take the fall instead
of just Disney Studios. When our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having five independent sub studios also creates its own set of issues. Directors and executives
not being on the same page is one of the issues that has the potential to be the most costly. In the
case of Inside Out they made beneficial changes to the movie late in the process after executives
viewed the cut of the movie. In this case, executives working with sub studios benefitted the
finished product, however, it creates and environment in which if executives and directors have
different views of where a movie should go or how characters should be portrayed it could lead
to a complete teardown and reshoot of a movie which would waste time and possibly risk
missing a release date of a major tentpole movie. Another challenge that arises when sub studios
are involved is division of resources, which could lead to lower quality movies by not having all
creative minds working on a particular movie. For example, Disney live action has had the
biggest percentage of failures versus all of the other labels. Marvel and Lucasfilm have had
tremendous success in creating universes in which their movies can take place and add on to.
This can be seen in the Star Wars universe or the Marvel universe. The creative minds that
developed the ideas to base these movies could be beneficial to the Disney live action brand but the
separation of resources keeps collaboration of creative minds from happening.
Recommendation
Disney Studios should continue in their current

The Economic And Economic Growth Of China s Economy
2016
Coming out of a lackluster 2015, GDP growth slowed to 1.5%. Confidence of investors and
consumers was unable to make significant gains as a result of the Presidential election and global
uncertainty. The outcome of the 2016 election had a great affect on the US economy and the fiscal
and monetary policies that could be put in place. Uncertainty over taxes, regulations, and trade
following the election have led to a slowdown of growth.
Consumption and government spending both increased from the previous year. The big
weaknesses for Real GDP growth came from business investment and exports decreasing from the
previous period.

This shows that businesses are not confident about the state of the economy and are not investing.
This leads to stagnating wages, job creation, and production, which lowers overall Real GDP.
Exports have been affected by global events. Most importantly, Brexit added to fears that the
European Union is unstable and other countries may follow the UK and leave the union. The EU
is a major trade partner of the US and China, which could disrupt global trade. Brexit has caused
major volatility in global markets as well. This could trigger consumers to stop spending and save
more. Brexit also hiked up the US dollar 6.3% against the British pound. This continues the trend
from last year of low exports and revenues in the manufacturing sector further impeding profits and
limiting their willingness to invest.
2016 monetary policy continued the trend from the previous year by keeping rates low and only
increasing rates once during the year. The Fed raised rates to a range of 0.50 0.75% in December.
Confidence in the economy is up and is anticipated to continue into 2017 with more frequent rate
hikes.

and DJIA both fell around 4% immediately following the election, however, the market quickly

  • 5. Abelard and Aquinas Essay Peter Abelard was a renowned dialectician from 1079 to 1142. He subjected theological doctrines to logical analysis. In other words, he used rational argument to discover truth. Saint Thomas Aquinas, was a believer in the power of reason, giving St. Augustine s theory an alternate approach. He taught in Paris and Italy during the years 1225 to 1274. Both of these new age thinkers changed the way Catholic followers viewed the natural world. Peter Abelard was one of the new thinkers that applied scholasticism to his theological aspects. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His greatest work was Summa Theologica. In this work he attempted to merge faith with reason, and the works of Aristotle with the scriptures. Historically, he is seen as an alternate approach to St. Augustine s view of the city of man versus the city of God. Augustine and Aquinas shared the belief that the original sin was Adam and Eve s venture through the garden of good and evil. On page 239, Aquinas held that both faith and reason came from God, they were not in opposition to each other; properly understood, they supported each other.. He did not want people to shun the idea of reason, he wanted the world to see that it was not evil. Combining Christianity with Aristotelian knowledge, he shed light upon the difficulty to distinguish common ground between the natural world and the supernatural world. The excerpt is divided into two different sections, Whether, Besides the Philosophical Sciences, Any Further Doctrine Is Required? and Whether God Exists?. In the second section he proves five ways God exists by using Aristotle s technique in philosophy, they are motion, nature of efficient cause, possibility and necessity, the graduation to be found in things, and the governance of the world. The way he words his logic is extremely confusing. While it s simple enough, it can be overly sensitive. For example, mouthwash or cooking brandy could trigger the device. While both of these options will allow drivers to keep driving, they will minimize the chances of receiving another DUI charge. The direct result of this policy was that the company and franchisee outlets did not erode each other?s revenue streams. Wendy?s had a regulated system in place by which they offered technical assistance and consultancy to franchisees. This enabled the franchisee outlets to overcome any teething problems they might have otherwise experienced and instilled in them the philosophy underlying the Wendy?s Way. As a commitment to supporting franchise owners, the Wendy?s Management Institute was formed in December 1972 to develop management skills in restaurant managers, supervisors and franchise owners. Such technical assistance and consultancy also ensured a degree of standardization and uniformity across all the outlets, whether it was in the form of service provided or restaurant layout and design. Menu Unlimited? Despite its advantages, the limited menu meant that customers were restricted to eating hamburgers and french fries, when the fast food industry was gradually encompassing a larger variety of products. Management at Wendy?s realized the importance of extending consumer choice and decided to abandon the limited menu concept by introducing the salad bar in the late 1970s and baked potatoes in October 1983, making it the first fast food chain to do so on a nationwide basis. After the attacks occurred on September 11th, 2001, people started to believe that the U.S. government was behind the attacks. Others believe that the terrorist group, known as al Qaeda was behind it, but that the government knew about it and chose not to do anything to try and prevent it. Flight 175 left the Boston Logan Airport at 8:14 am, which was about 16 minutes after it was scheduled to depart. At 8:42, the plane had gone off its planned course and started to fly south. The plane flew southwest as it crossed the Hudson River, it kept going to New Jersey until it was southwest from New York. • 10. Pros And Cons Of Commerce Clause The Commerce Clause grants Congress the power [t]o regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes. Despite its silence as to the effect of that affirmative power, federal courts have recognized the Framers wish to create a unified national market and have found a dormant congressional authority in it. Since the landmark case of Gibbons v. Ogden (1824), that dormant authority has limited state regulations that burden interstate commerce, even in the absence of congressional regulation. Congress has the power only to restrict the scope of permissible state regulation but it does not absolutely preclude states from affecting commerce. [T]he states retain authority under their police powers to regulate matters of legitimate local concern , even though interstate commerce may be affected. A challenged statute is upheld if its effect on interstate commerce is merely incidental. On the other hand, a state regulation that is facially or practically discriminatory will be defeated unless it shows a legitimate local purpose that cannot be accomplished by any less discriminatory alternatives. Efficient use of natural resources has acquired a particular significance among other issues undergoing the Commerce Clause review since it concerns both the individual states and the nation as a whole. Congress fosters it by encouraging an unrestricted flow of goods across state lines and by prohibiting states from engaging in economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Set in 11th century Scotland there is more than one logical way to interpret the signs, symbols and themes of this intriguing story. There is more than one mystery and obscurity in this play that seems to be left open to the interpretation and imagination of the reader. One compelling occasion in particular is that of the death and supposed suicideof Lady Macbeth. Many critics, readers and other interpreters have discussed the subject from either side. Some believe that there is evidence to support that the cause of Lady Macbeths death was suicide. Although some suspect otherwise and argue for the fact that her death was caused by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nothing in the text is tied with sentiments of melancholy or despair. At this point Malcom s forces are not yet gathered and she has no reason to fear losing her crown or anything else for that matter. Then was it just guilt that caused her to sleep walk? Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top full of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood. We observe here that she is summoning spirits of villainy and sin, to give her the capabilities and strength to commit cruel and wicked acts. Equally she has demanded that she would be cruelty itself. Likewise, she has more or less disposed of her soul to the evil one. All the devil yearns for is your soul, and with Lady Macbeth sleep walking with cubibility and dread through the house, it seems quite likely that this could be the devil working through her. Then the subject of possession comes to mind, although whether she was possessed or not is another topic entirely. Therefore it was not her guilt and hypothetical depression, that led her to suicide. Uniquely as seen throughout the story that Lady Macbeth was a very strong willed and persistent woman, but despite all of this she still displayed inidcations of weakness in certain areas of her character. The real world scenarios presented in the weekly assignments provided valuable context to the application of biblical interpretation to answer questions concerning details of the hope Jesushas promised. These inquiries ranging from limits of justification and gifts, to the biblical truth regarding the Church here and in the next life, will continue to be of great value as I am utilized to make disciples of all people. To begin, week one s position paper challenged me to dig at the underlying reason many would be afraid they have committed the unforgivable sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. I asserted the root of the issue is not that one is a believer who is tormented by committing an unforgivable sin; it is a lack of faith that Christ has forgiven all their sin. The scenario given was not unfamiliar to me of a person who believes Jesus is Lord, but due to lack of knowledge cannot trust Jesus as their Lord. Though the initial scenario dealt with salvation, I can apply the same lack of faith being an issue in any area of my own life. I have recognized that areas of struggle in my own life have persisted due to a lack of faith in the process, even though I had faith in salvation. Realizing that until I stand in faith specifically for the situation at hand, many times I will not possess the breakthrough I have prayed for. I was reminded through this assignment that often the stated issue is only an effect of a deeper dilemma. The lack of trust situation, as well as the accompanying scenario regarding spiritual gifts, was caused by Scripture received out of context. The stance as to why someone would be scared they are beyond God s forgiveness due to blasphemy would be based on translations of: Mark 3:29, Matthew 12:31, Luke 12:10 not taken in context with the rest of scripture. I concluded the misunderstanding of the gifts of the Spirit, was a case of cherry picking scriptures by the subject to substantiate his view point. I found applying Wesley s teachings of contextual study of Scripture to such a real world situation of great practical value (Oden, 2012, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Background Of Organic Agriculture Organic agriculture Background of organic agriculture Organic agriculture started in the early twentieth century, mainly in Europe, but also in the United States. The term organic farming came from the term humus farming which emerged from soil management. The term organic was first used by Northbourne (1940). Northbourne used the term to characterize farms using humus farming methods because he believed that the system imitates the flows of nutrients and energy in biological organisms. Organic agriculture became visible on a wider scale in the 1960s, when farmers and consumers became concerned that the number of chemicals used in crop and animal production could have negative consequences for human health and the environment. Therefore, the word organic was intended and used to describe a process and method that is considered as environment friendly because of the sustainable fundamental principles such as: the lack of chemical use, the desire to reverse erosion, soil depletion, decline of crops varieties, low quality food and livestock feed, and rural poverty (Kuepper 2010). The themes in this book allow for one to grow in their theological outlook. To begin Bonhoeffer discussed his views on the call to discipleship. Bonhoeffer wrote,... He lived the perfect life and brought people to the Lord. So for Jesus to be put to death by the people they abandoned him. They left his side and left him to suffer on the cross. On the cross was where Jesus died a miserable death and suffered greatly. The last thing described by Bonhoeffer was that the cross represents guilt. He described how Jesus was the bearer of all sins for humans. Now Christians become the ones who bare other individuals sin and guilt. To sum up the cross it has many meanings and it signifies a lot in Christian religion. After Bonhoeffer finished writing about the cross he wrote about discipleship and the individual. This is about how God made people as individuals. God made us to be alone and be lonely. He did this so we would have someone to go to in these lonely times and this person is Jesus christ and God. In this chapter Bonhoeffer really discusses how we being individuals need to accept Jesus Christ the mediator. Back to the issue of Jesus bearing all of our sins it truly shows how caring and how much he values our lives. If Christ is willing to die for us and our sins we should at minimum bring him into our lives. We should recognize what he did for us and live in a way where he can shine through us. This instantly iconic decree of hope and patriotism was yelled by Texan soldiers as they fought in the Battle of San Jacinto, the deciding battle in the Texas war for independence. The battle only lasted eighteen short minutes, and it was a Texan victory, causing them to gain independence from Mexico. Those two events, the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto, inspired many people in many different ways, including Henry Arthur McArdle. I would have never imagined that a 32dB unilateral hearingloss would cause so much frustration. With frustration, however, came understanding and empathy. I am now confident that my experience will aid me in developing accurate expectations and treatment plans to my future clients. I, like many, know several individuals with a hearing loss. I have seen the devastation a hearing loss can cause for someone who is used to experiencing the many joys of clear sound. As I placed the earplug in for the first time, I braced myself. I immediately compared my temporary hearing loss to those with a permanent hearing loss and could only think about how challenging my life was going to be for the next few hours. I knew that my communicationskills were going to be impaired and my value as a communication partner was going to take a nosedive. • 37. Vertigo As The Archetypal Mystery Vertigo as the Archetypal Mystery Christopher O Neil Introduction to Film Prof. Michael O Donnell March 16th, 2015 Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo is a classic movie of the mystery genre. The film takes what appears to be a relatively conventional mystery plot and enacts a process whereby it proceeds to continually fold it within itself in order to develop a film that appears to change its nature several times, but that nonetheless continues to perpetuate a sense of mystery. Indeed, in many ways the experience of watching Vertigo is the experience of seeing something essential about the world unravelling; something that both applies and does not apply to the events of the film itself. This paper will consider Vertigo as a mystery film, but will also show how the film transcends this genre, or distils it to such an extent that even when the mystery at its centre has been resolved, it nonetheless remains almost as unfathomable at is was at start of the film. In essence, the film not only presents the reconciliation of a mystery within its plot but essentially dramatizes the ineffably mysterious nature of reality itself. This paper will demonstrate this by paying attention to key scholarship around Hitchcock and psychoanalysis. Vertigo was made in 1958, at the height of Alfred s Hitchcock s fame as director and can be considered to be a seminal example of his film making. Many people are aware of Christianity, but some may find paganism more difficult to comprehend because they aren t completely aware of what it is. To clarify, paganism is a religion that was practiced during and after the Middle Ages when the monks orally performed epics, such as Beowulf. Pagans do not worship one God, but instead they worship several gods, often referred to as polytheism. Pagans also base their religionand practices off of nature, their cultural backgrounds, or their location. They believe that all natural objects own souls and that humans should live in harmony with nature as well. In Beowulf, we were introduced to a civilization that originally worshiped pagan gods but had recently converted to Christianity. However, we can clearly observe in section two of the epic that the poet(s) of the epic were not completely trustful of either religion. Directors and executives not being on the same page is one of the issues that has the potential to be the most costly. In this case, executives working with sub studios benefitted the finished product, however, it creates and environment in which if executives and directors have different views of where a movie should go or how characters should be portrayed it could lead to a complete teardown and reshoot of a movie which would waste time and possibly risk missing a release date of a major tentpole movie.
