Troubled Asset Relief Program Essay
United States has long been portrayed as the country that has the biggest economy in the world. In
fact, United States have the highest gross domestic product which known for its strong economic
growth and sustainability, for its currency as an standard unit currency for international trading
market, and for its significant influence and impact to the world market as the leading global trader.
Furthermore, United States was able to surpass other countries as it is able to accumulate its capital
more quickly through its extensive capitalistic approach. However, the market of the United States
suddenly collapsed and immediately resulted in the inevitable economic breakdown in late 2000 s
until late 2010s. This is evident through the book of Keith ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the government intervention was necessary for the banks not to loss hundred percent of their
assets and to further save its financial sector as much as banks never wanted to go bankrupt as banks
do have businesses based on and trust and solvency record. Thus, the United States established the
Troubled Asset Relief Program or TARP with a purpose of insuring all the troubled assets and
reinforcing the banks with more capitals for them to further able to operate and withstand losses where
in fact, $700 billion was allotted in this program. With the help of Troubled Asset Relief Program, the
government and the Federal Reserve were able to help JP Morgan Chase to buyout Bear Stearns with
$10 per share compared to JP Morgan Chase s offer of $2 per share. Furthermore, the Federal Reserve
and Treasury expanded another $30 billion into the fund of Troubled Asset Relief Program to
completely accommodate the bailout cost of American International Group, which received an overall
total bailout amount of $85 billion. Moreover, the United States government turned out buying out a
third of Citi company to save it from going under. Thus, it is clearly shows that both the government
and the Federal Reserve play a crucial role in the hopes of recovery of the financial sector of the

The Importance Of Environment On The Environment
The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not
aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated by
environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results in
asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are naïve
about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through sixth need
to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollution and learn practices at school that
will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well. Applications
such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will help promote good
health for children as it will help improve air quality for them.
Education
Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help
prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to
understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will
provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both
globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why
and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand the
characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of this
topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is environmentalism, by stating that, everything that
we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is always changing. Today
people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have created many problems like
landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters (Norwood 1996). Once understanding the facts, students will
record a weeks worth of visible pollution by spreading a thin layer of Vaseline on one side of several 3
by 5 index cards then placing the cards in a variety of places where they will be undisturbed for one
week. At the end of the week collect all the

The Gulag Archipelago And One Day Essay
Life during the Soviet Gulag was not a very pleasant experience. Throughout the mid Twentieth
Century in Russia individuals would be imprisoned, punished, and penalized daily not to mention, that
extra ten years could be added for doing absolutely nothing. In addition to, imagine having to survive
day after day in a Siberian labor camp where you were forced to work outside regardless of the
weather conditions or better yet, your own health conditions. Ivan Denisovich Shukou, an inmate of
the labor camp in 1951 shared his experiences as well of thoughts in detail. Throughout this book he
manages to express his daily struggles on what it is the idea of surviving with dignity. Shcha 854 was
the code given to him for identification as a prisoner where the corrupted prison system treated their
inmates as slaves. In the book, Ivan fights the freezing cold, mediocre food, and the thoughts of

Cremation Bracelet Essay
Blog 5: Cremation Bracelet You know just enough about cremation jewelry to know it recommends
itself. Wearing symbolic jewelry is an ideal way to sustain the powerful connection between you and
the dear person who has departed. But, when you begin to explore the huge assortment of materials,
designs and styles of cremation jewelry, it can get confusing. Since this is the most precious piece of
jewelry you will ever possess, it is a good idea to get a general idea of what appeals to you. Of course,
something entirely different may call your name. That would be your perfect choice. The material is
important, as it must last a long time. Choose your favorite from sterling silver, 14k gold, pewter,

The Weary Blues Mood
The Harlem Renaissance (1918 1937) is a period of flourishing African American artistic culture. New
styles of art and music such as the blues originate from this time. Many African American artists such
as Langton Hughes utilize art to express their ideas and culture to other societies. Hughes specifically
tries to convey the state of mind of African Americans through poetry. He achieves this by creating a
depressing mood in his main poem The Weary Blues. Through symbolism, metaphors and emotive
words, Hughes evokes the melancholic mood in order to shed light on the reality of African Americans
in the 1920s.
Symbolism is a key factor to establish the melancholic atmosphere. Hughes utilizes this device to

Music is a metaphor for the unexplainable abstract emotions the singer experiences. The poem itself is
a piece of music. Hughes chooses a depressing tune, as African Americans are victims of
discrimination. Therefore, the singer turns to music to express his feelings instead of violence. The
music forces the piano player to overcome his fears and looses himself in the music hence explaining
actions such as ...thump went his foot on the floor. (23) Hughes chooses the blues as it can express the
worries of humans. The fact that the blues is composed in minor chords plays a key role in affecting
the mood. The singer exclaims that he can t be satisfied, (28) and he had wish that he had died, (30) in
order to escape the pain. The blues features numerous repetitions in which the singer is crying. The
artist mentions that he has the weary blues, (25) hence utilizing music to portray the mood. Blues
bestow the reality of the prejudices and injustices. The African American s emotions are embedded in
the music, which is then poured to the

NW Singers And Chamber Choir Essay
NW Singers and Chamber Choir Concert Report For this assignment, I decided to attend the NW
Singers and Chamber Choir performance. The reason why I chose this option over the others is
because I ve always found organized vocal music to be very beautiful. Listening to music that uses
only the human voice is striking and has a certain personal feel to it. I also feel that I can relate more
to choir music, as I am in the choir at my church. This concert was directed by Ms. Susanne Spencer
VanDyke, accompanied by Dr. Saundra Bishop on the piano.
My favorite selection from the program was the one preformed last that night I Sing Because I m
Happy. I chose this as my favorite because of its upbeat happy feel. Its cheerful tune almost lead
people in the audience to start dancing.
The two musical elements from this selection that stood out to me the most were its dynamics and
tempo. The choir and piano would often employ softer and louder dynamics throughout the
performance. There were times when they would repeat the phrase I m so happy yes, softer, then
slowly increase into a much louder and more powerful repeat, giving it a sense of a buildup of joy.
Next is the tempo. It seems as though the tempo in this piece would sometimes change, moving from a
faster to slower rate to, again, most likely to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ottoman Disadvantages and its Implications on The Siege of...
Under Suleiman the Magnificent the Ottoman Empire was a force to be reckoned with, it ruled the
Middle East and Suleiman was quickly realizing his goal of advancing into Europe. However in 1529
a major military upset in the Austrian city of Vienna would halt the Islamic Ottoman expansion and
save Europe from the possibility of Ottoman control. However this might not had been the case if it
were not for several key disadvantages the Ottoman Empire had against the Viennese. Suleiman the
Magnificent s defeat during the siege of Vienna, 1529, was caused by poor weather conditions, chaos
and disorganization amongst the Ottoman ranks, and a much stronger Viennese defense than was
anticipated.
On May 10, 1529 Sultan Suleiman left Istanbul on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This divided Hungary into two states, Royal Hungary and Ottoman Hungary, this division lasted until
1700.
In the spring of 1529 Suleiman the Magnificent began to construct his massive army in Ottoman
Bulgaria, his objective is to conquer and secure control over all of Hungary and eliminate the threat
posed by Ferdinand I and the Holy Roman Empire. Estimates of the size of Suleiman s army vary
vastly from around 100,000 men to well over 300,000. The army also consisted of many units of
Sapahi, the elite Ottoman Calvary, and thousands and thousands of Janissaries, an extremely well
trained Ottoman fighting force. With such a vast group moving all at once there were certain inherent
difficulties the Ottomans faced. The biggest of these would be the sheer chaos caused by the
disorganization. Desertion was particularly rampant amongst the Ottoman forces and with the
disorganization it was nearly impossible to properly distribute resources, malnourishment was a big
problem because of the difficulty of acquiring food. This would mark a major disadvantage of the
Ottoman morale; it diminished their will to fight, and thus, their will to win.
Suleiman launched his campaign on May 10th, because this was so late in the year, the weather was
almost immediately a problem. The spring rains associated with that area of Europe caused flooding
and bridge wash outs were very common, this barley allowed to troops to leave

visibility of approximately thirty yards due to thick heavy snow conditions and a thick blanket of
snow on the road which made road condition hazardous. The unit was transporting a patient to a local

When operating an emergency vehicle, the driver must always exercise extreme caution and due
regard for others; especially when forced to operate them in less than ideal conditions such as
inclement weather. The articles author wrote the operator was driving with poor visibility due to heavy
snow conditions, a heavy blanket of snow on the roadway, and at a speed of approximately 35 miles
per hour, but still able to safely control the unit even with the hazardous weather and road conditions.
In addition, he wrote the driver was running over the rubble strips usually found in the outside
emergency lane to ensure he knew the unit s position on the roadway and hopefully to give extra room
to other travelers on the roads that morning. The article was unclear if the red light and siren were
activated during the transport at the time of the incident. I feel the driver of the unit was exercising
due regard for the safety of himself, crew member, patient, and all others they may contact that
dreadful January morning. However, I do believe he should have activated their emergency lights and
further reduced their speed to possibly give himself and other drivers extra reaction time to avoid
collisions of this type. However, I do not believe the recommendations above would have significantly

A View from the Bridge
Literature Coursework Modern Drama
What is the dramatic function of Alfieri s character in A View from the Bridge ?
A View from the Bridge is a play written by Arthur Miller. Miller s inspiration for this play is close to
his heart. He grew up in New York City; his parents were illegal immigrants into the United States
looking for work. Alfieri is a key component, not only is he a character he is also a narrator. He acts as
a chorus to the play and an aid to the audience. Alfieri plays many small roles to combine and create a
depth and understanding to the play such as the connection to the title of the play, how he is utilises
time switches and the effectiveness of them, how he behaves as a chorus of the Greek tragedies and

He takes on a dual role of the lawyer and commentator. He alerts Eddie that he won t have a friend in
the world if he keeps pushing the boundaries, he already knows Eddie s tragedy is inevitable and
builds a sense of foreshadowing. Miller has three purposes in this scene for Alfieri: to reveal the
acceptance of Eddie s feelings towards Catherine, to convey how it might affect Beatrice and to be the
voice of reasoning. He bluntly tells Eddie that there is no positive way out. When Eddie implies he
may have feelings for Catherine Alfieri is already aware and implies that this will be his fatal flaw. he
never realises it, but though the years there is too much love for the daughter, there is too much love
for the niece . This explicitly tells Eddie to let the feelings go, Alfieri is conscious about the fact Eddie
does have strong feelings towards Catherine and he is also a perceptive character which Eddie is not,
but Alfieri is alert that this will be Eddie s downfall. During Eddie s confession time he confides his
fear that Rodolpho is homosexual and is pretending to love Catherine as an opportunity to obtain a
green card. Eddie says He s stealing from me! and it s breakin my heart . This really allows the
audience to feel the intensity of the frustration Eddie feels. The scenes have now created a cathartic
effect because the tension has been released now that Eddie s feelings are in the open from the

Symbols such as statutes are one of the most iconic remembrances of the past. Yet, it is questionable
as to how proud society is of the past to remember statutes used to represent hatred. Due to the
growing race related tensions in the United States, many have called for the removal of the statue of
all representations of the confederacy. For example, the Statue of Confederate General, Robert E. Lee
is one of the few statues that were taken down in recent months. General Robert E. Lee was

War ended with the end of slavery, it was not a war the United States was proud of. Many of the

The Sexualization Of Women And Girls
The sexualization of women and girls surround Americans and is damaging to females as well as to
American society. Females receive the sexualized messages regarding their appearance and how they
should act via the media, retailers, and American society s acceptance of these behaviors. As a mother,
Girl Scout Leader, and school paraprofessional I cannot help but to question are these messages
inflicting psychological damage on girls? Whom can I hold accountable for sexualizing female youth?
What can I do to prevent sexualization from affecting all of the young girls in my life? The
sexualization of girls is unacceptable because it is degrading to females, can cause serious life long
psychological damage and sexist attitudes, and may lead to violence against women and girls.
Sexualization differs from healthy sexuality. According to the American Psychological Association
Task Force (APA), healthy sexuality is something that develops spontaneously in people that have not
suffered any kind of traumatic sexual crisis. Healthy sexuality includes affection, a relationship and/or
companionship, respect, and healthy intimacy between consenting people (APA 1). Sexualization, on
the other hand, is something that is forced upon a person. The APA defines sexualization as a cause
that ensues when one of the following causes occur: A person s value comes only from his or her
sexual appeal or behavior, to the exclusion of other characteristics; 2.) A person is held to a standard

The Importance Of Outdoor Recreation On The Environment
INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that planet Earth is ever changing. The emergence of new
species, extinction of extant species, rise and fall of climate, and much more are completely natural
occurrences; however, there is one terrifying force that changes the world much faster than most of its
inhabitants can handle: humans. Ever since humans began to populate the Earth, we have been
exploiting natural resources and depleting populations, thus harming countless communities and
ecosystems. As our population continues to increase, we destroy more and more natural habitats,
negatively impacting biological diversity by decreasing the abundance of individuals per species
(Hunter 2007). Many studies in the past have looked into how overexploitation of resources, habitat
loss due to development, and the release of fossil fuels from production result in the decline of
biodiversity (Goulletquer et al. 2014), but one form of human disturbance is often overlooked:
recreation. The increasing popularity of outdoor recreation can affect wildlife in numerous ways,
usually resulting in the avoidance of disturbed habitat (Coppes et al. 2017).
Many studies have been done observing the impact of human disturbance on flagship species in
popular recreational destinations such as forests and oceans. For instance, one study done in the
Southern Black Forest revealed that red deer avoided areas near hiking trails, preferred to live in
dense, undisturbed areas in the forest, and were more active

Machiavelli The Father Of Modern Political Thought Summary

Machiavelli The Father of Modern Political Thought
There are many reasons why Machiavelli is widely considered the beginner of modern political
thought, one of the many is he studied strictly the politicians, and businessmen. Machiavelli
recognized the political playing field as a vile place only for the most dominating and cunning of
political giants. One of Machiavelli s most famous work, On Principalities, or known by the other
title, The Prince, absolutely announced a break with previous political beliefs secured between moral
and religion system, it examines the nature of his views on power that are still somewhat in existent
today. Machiavelli discusses in this work power over the people, oppressive power, and shared power.
Machiavelli discusses two specific groups of people such as the political elite and the general public
within this work.
While Machiavelli highlighted power over in relations between the political elite, he examines a
different kind of power in the affiliation between a prince and his public. Machiavelli noted that he
can share his power with his people, since he can trust his people more than he can the nobles. The
nobles cannot be satisfied if their ruler acts honorably, because their desires are more ethical than the
nobles are. The people are more forgiving and less greedy so he can place more trust in his people and
empower his trusting public.
Though the public may be more trustworthy Machiavelli also stated that a prince needed to be harsh in
the treatment of both the mixed sectors and the new sectors to avoid rebellions, the prince must be
harsh and cautious. It is easier for a prince to hold control after he has already stopped a rebellion by
empowering his power. Once the prince takes control of the city, he cannot forget it, for his control
can be easily lost.
Without order within his own court let alone his public, the prince would soon fall and possible lose
his control over everything. More or less how the prince started at the bottom and slowly made his
way to becoming a great king or he died at the feet of his people or someone of higher power before

Prenatal Human Development
The creation of a human being is a miraculous process. When many people hear human development,
they tend to think about infancy or adolescent years when kids go through puberty, but the most
amazing developmental processes take place in the prenatal stage. The amount of growth and change
that occurs during the nine month gestational period is almost incomprehensible. Prenatal
development is broken down into three stages, the Germinal stage, the Embryonic Stage, and the Fetal
stage. This paper will mainly focus on the embryonic stage because there is a vast amount of crucial
development that happens during this period. The embryonic stage is also exciting because it is during
this stage that the mass of cells that are supposed to be a human, starts to actually resemble a baby.
The embryonic stage begins two weeks after conception, after implantation has taken place, and lasts
until week eight. During this time, some body structure begins to appear and by week eight, the
embryo has all basic organs and body parts. They are all very fragile and ... Show more content on

exposure and the amount of exposure are key factors in teratogens affecting the embryo. The embryo
could also have a genetic disadvantage and be more vulnerable to teratogens or certain biological

and how I view the world based on my cultural responsibilities. The first personal aspect is my gender.
Being a male in my culture I am responsible to do the heavy work like setting up table and chairs for
everyone.I am also responsible to help kill the pig and prep the meat for the females to cook. I am also
responsible to go forward the elders and bow to them showing my respect towards them. As a male I
am to greet all the elders and help them with what they need. Being a male I get more opportunities on
working jobs. I am also expected to be strong, I have to look tough and be able to take control because
I am a male. The second personal aspect is my age. Since i am almost gonna be an young adult I am to
have a drink with the elders if they bring a drink to me. I am to sit with the elders and talk with them
keeping them company. Since i m going to be a young adult soon I will be able to drive and move out
to do my own things. I will also be responsible to pay for my own food, my own bills, and to be
responsible to go to work. Being my age now I will soon have to do things on my own and cannot rely
on people reminding me of my responsibilities. The third aspect of my personal life is my location.

Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight On The Beaches
Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight on the Beaches speech is arguably one of the most memorable and
inspirational speeches by a top leader in the Second World War. Churchill delivered the speech to the
House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on June 4, 1940, approximately four
weeks after he was made prime minister of Great Britain. The speech itself was a report for the House
of Commons on how the warfront proceeded, regarding all aspects of the British armed forces. Prior
to the speech, Britain had suffered a major military loss in France and Belgium, after assisting Belgian
people to defend their country from German intrusion. Unfortunately, the British s attempt to protect
Belgium was unsuccessful as King Leopold of Belgium later surrendered to Nazi Germany, leaving
thousands of French and British soldiers stranded at the harbour of Dunkirk in northern France. Due to
the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) having to be rescued from France, Churchill believed that it
would be a perfect time to broadcast the inspirational speech to his people. Churchill s speech clearly
highlighted the urgent need of winning the war and recalled the disgraceful rescue of the BEF from
France. In the speech, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Leniency On Permit Requirements

area ( Gopher Tortoise Permitting Guidelines , 2017). The same guidelines are applicable for
silviculture, even though silviculture activities have the possibility of degrading the habitat type
tortoises require. The 10 or Fewer On Site permit is forgiving for what is considered suitable habitat

Relocating wildlife can cause stress (and thus compromise their immune system), expose them to an
area where they have no experience, expose them up to territory disputes, expose them to the risk that
recipient sites may not be completely suitable, and spread disease ( Relocating Wildlife , n.d.).
Although RRT [Relocation, Repatriation, and Translocation] programs may work under certain
circumstances, they should not be used unless all parties involved are prepared to make the necessary
commitment (Dodd and Seigel, 1991, p. 347). If relocations are going to be a primary conservation
effort for the gopher tortoise, then increasing research on relocated gopher tortoise populations must
be a priority. Overall, the FWC s management goal is to increase the gopher tortoise population. So,
information on the long term welfare of the relocated populations is imperative. The downsides to the
long term data collection and research required is the resources needed. Lack of Research and Data
Next, inadequate data is a hinderance to the proper management of the gopher tortoise. The
management plan estimates that Florida s current gopher tortoise habitat is 3.3 million acres, with an
estimated 785,000 gopher tortoises ( Gopher Tortoise Management Plan , 2012). However, the data
presented in the 2012 Gopher Tortoise Management Plan was calculated from GIS data that was
collected in 2003. This is problematic considering that

The Progress of an Aztec Warrior
The image of The Progress of an Aztec Warrior taken from the Codex Mendoza gives us some idea of
the highly ritualized, even religious, character of Aztec warfare (Austin 209). The dress adopted by
Aztec warriors was hardly protective: from the depictions in the Codex Mendoza it appears that they
fought mostly naked. Although protected by a shield, otherwise they were adorned with feathers,
flowers, and animal skins, indicating that the warrior s identity was in some way dedicated to the
totemic animal gods of the Aztec religion. But the ideology of warfare was practically inculcated in
the Aztecs from birth. Inga Clendinnen notes that childbed was conventionally designated a
battlefield, where a woman could take a captive by capturing a baby. The midwife greeted the birth of
a male child with warcries and a formal exhortation, addressed to the child, but directed, of course, to
the panting, newly delivered mother, who was emphatically not given the baby to hold: My precious
son, my youngest one...heed, hearken: thy home is not here, for thou art an eagle, a jaguar...here is
only the place of thy nest...out there thou hast been consecrated...War is thy desert, thy task. Thou
shalt give drink, nourishment, food to the sun, lord of the earth...perhaps thou wilt receive the gift,
perhaps thou wilt merit death by the obsidian knife...The flowered death by the obsidian knife [that is,
death on the killing stone] (Clendinnen 17) Because the Aztec mode of warfare was focused on

The Purpose Of Copyright Law
The public relations content I choose was copyright law. In the day and age we live in today this is a
huge topic discussed. There are a lot of people out there that claim someone might have stole this or
that. Music artist have to deal with this a lot because people try and take their work and put into their
own. Copyright means protection of creative work from unauthorized use.
A recent case that this has been brought up in is the band Led Zeppelin. The front man Robert Plant
and guitarist Jimmy Page were accused of plagiarizing their song Stairway to Heaven song. They were
accused of stealing music from the band Spirit. They were accused of stealing the instrumental track

Diversity Management System Essay
Diversity is a term that we can all relate to in some way or another. The term diversity represents the
multitude of individual differences that make people different from and similar to each other, (Kinicki
Kreitner, 2009). Although some people view diversity as an issue of age, race, gender, religion, or
sexual preference, it is actually much more than that. It actually pertains to the differences that make
each individual special or unique and this is why it becomes important to learn how to interact and
grow with one another. In order for this to take place in the workplace, establishing a strong diversity
management program is essential to the success of any organization. One company in particular that
has created and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite all of the injustice and discrimination in the past, Xerox has made it their vision to see that no
person will ever be faced with this type of barrier again. Each person will be respected and recognized
for the quality of work they put into the organization and have an equal opportunity to advance within.
This is clearly defined in Xerox s Diversity Statement (2011), Xerox is committed to equal
opportunity of employment and all employment decisions are based on merit, qualifications, and
abilities. This behavior that Xerox has adopted has opened many doors over the years and given many
people the inspiration they need to reach for bigger opportunities. Xerox values their stand on
diversity so much that they have twenty years of success in their supplier diversity program. In 1985
Xerox had only one guy in charge of investigating how much money the organization was spending
with companies that were ran by minorities and women. Today, Xerox employs a fully staffed
department to oversee this operation. In 2005, Xerox spent almost $250 million in one year with
minority and women owned business with a plan to increase this number by ten percent and since
1985 has purchased more than five billion in supplies and services from minorities and women,

many other doors for both minorities and women. Over the

Advancements Of The Early Modern Period Medicine
It is difficult to decide whether the developments, inventions and discoveries of the Early Modern
Period contributed to European power or whether it contributed to European progress. The reason this
is, is because in the case of Europe, especially in this time period, power and progress seemed to go
hand in hand. In the case of discovery the countries that had the most power led the way in
discovering new land, it was this curiosity in expanding power that led to the progress of new worlds
and opportunities. The invention of the printing press contributed to providing knowledge and
therefore an aspect of power to people who did not have it beforehand and it was the progress of
medicines and sciences that ensured not only the power and superiority of European knowledge but
also the ability to progress to the next level of knowledge.
From the beginnings of the Early Modern Period medicine was essentially summed up in high
mortality rates and the notion that men and women were two completely different people
anatomically, treatments were largely herbal and the type of doctor you went to see depended on what
was wrong with you and if you could afford them . Attaining and preserving a state of health,
therefore, required balance, and that equilibrium was inherently elusive and easily forfeited .
However, while there was some progress in this field throughout the period it was not as drastic as one
would expect, the Galenic body of the four humours was still a dominant

The Legalization of Assisted Suicide
Assisted Suicide has through out history caused controversy among our society. There are two sides to
this issue, one that passionately supports it, and those who religiously disagree. I believe that assisted
suicide should become legal for several reasons. Assisted suicide gives individuals the right to end
their suffering when they personally feel that their time has come to die. Assisted suicide should
become legal because if one can decide to put an animal out of its misery, why shouldn t that person
have the same right to put themselves out of their own misery if that hardship came upon them.
Though the topic may seem morbid, dying people in grave medical circumstances have rights. It s
important we recognize their right to end their own suffering and respect the very personal decisions
these people are forced to make. It is legal for humans to decide whether or not their pet should be
euthanized. These reasons may vary. According to Pet Euthanasia, people decide to put their animals
down because, of inconveniences, living changes, and severe sicknesses. The owner of a pet may
move their home to a different location. Many different places have different rules that may vary one
including not allowing pets. In this case some owners decide to euthanize their beloved pet to simply
get rid of a problem. An owner may also come across inconveniences due to their pet. For example,
when leaving for a relaxing holiday vacation, the cost to board your pet would cost too much.

The Influence Of Lin Vs. Lin On Chinese Foreign Relations
In the 1839 Chinese foreign relations was based on what was good for China. If they were making
profits, everything was peachy. But if more harm was being done than good, the Chinese as Lin Zexu
says, would remove it for the world. China was very strict on Europeans living in China. Emperor
Qian only allowed Europeans that he thought in service of the dynasty to stay, and they must obey
strict rules. Europeans had to adopt Chinese dress, were forced to stay in their designated precincts ,
and were never allowed to return to or communicate with their home country. It was the respect of
these rules by the British rulers, according to Lin that China had welcomed so hospitably trade with
England for last two hundred years. But recently Lin describes a change in the English trade. He
begins to describe this group as barbarians that are interested only in profit, regardless of who they
hurt. they were taking advantage of the Chinese people, something the Chinese government saw as a
huge harm that they needed to remove.
Lin s biggest argument in his letter to Queen Victoria, is China s ability to close their ports. ... Show

He knows that smoking opium is illegal in England, showing that they know the harm that it causes.
So he asks the queen if you know it is bad for your people, why push it on others? That is the
difference to Lin between British and Chinese trade. Chinese are about profits without harm, while the
British are not able to see past the money. He even flips the situation, describing a group of people
taking advantage of the English, driving the message home with a sideways compliment. Lin tells
Queen Victoria that she is kind and benevolent so she would not wish to give unto others what [she

The Tragedy Of The Red Tails
Films do not simply give someone words and ask them to create a world of their own; films offer a
complete other dimension that the viewer belongs to for a few brief hours. Without films like Saving
Private Ryan, society would not be able to experience the emotions of, in this case, war, but the
emotions of other people in general. Those who watched Milk for the first time were suddenly
smacked in the face by the reality of what it was like to stand up for their rights. The audiences of Red
Tails saw what it was like to get treated like you were less than someone else, and how people needed
to prove their worth to others. None of these films had anything to do with events current from their
times of release, but sometimes it is good to empathize with our ancestors. Movies do not need to only
ever show people being oppressed in order to connect with an audience though, sometimes it is good
to just allow people to feel raw emotions. Crash addresses the oppressed by labeling everyone as
oppressed and by also labeling everyone as the oppressor, allowing the film to truly connect to all
audiences. Paul Haggis uses the film Crash to portray what stereotypes people really think in, using
the language as a vessel to take the audience within their own subconscious.
In Paul Haggis 2004 film, Crash, he shows how closely seven completely different groups of people,
along with a few side groups, brush up in each other s lives. The tagline Things are not really black or

The Ratio Of The Monetary Model
It is no surprise that there have been many literatures on the determination of exchange rates given the
significant impact that movement in exchange rates have on a world s political and economic stability
as well as the welfare of individual countries. It plays an important role in international investments,
company profits and a countries macroeconomic fundamental factor such as unemployment, wages
and interest rates among others. This has led to the development of many models and economic
theories, one of which is the monetary model. Despite this, economists still cannot agree as to which
model best explains movement in exchange rates because the results obtained when testing different
models often contradict one another.
Though the research in this paper doesn t compare different economic models, it does look at the
sticky and flexible price monetary model of exchange rate determination and its variables. The paper
tests the adequacy of the monetary model (how good a job the model does in explaining movement in
exchange rates). It also shows how GDP, interest rates, money supply and inflation influences the
nominal exchange rates for the Eurozone, Japan and the UK against the USD.
The aim of this research is to test if the sticky and flexible price monetary model is valid, which of the
variables making up the model has the biggest impact in the movement of exchange rates for the case
of the Eurozone, Japan and the UK, and comparing the results obtained to provide

An innocent man was convicted of a crime he did not commit. Several reasons exist. First: Bennett
had a previous arrest record and he seemed to fit the description of the killer. Second: the police were
under pressure to solve the crime. And finally above all, because the public was clamoring for some
way to express its indignation (for the death of Mrs. Stuart), found Willie Bennett a plausible target
(Baird and Rosenbaum 97). Cases just like this one lead to innocent men found guilty with the
potential of being put on death row. Today, there are over three thousand prisoners on death row.
Between 1972 and 1996, 68 death row inmates were released because proof of their innocence was
found (Acker, Bohm, and Lanier 232). Only after struggling with expensive lawyers and a harsh
system of justice were Cusson 3 the majority of these prisoners finally able to receive a second
chance. It is preposterous to think that of the three thousand prisoners on death row, all of them are
guilty and deserve the death penalty. The death penalty is unfair for several reasons, one of them being
that legal assistance for inmates on death row has become increasingly difficult to find. Prisoners on
death row filing for appeal have little or no chance for receiving a fair second chance. Most of the
legal work is done for free, and even lawyers dedicated to making sure these prisoners receive all their
legal rights cannot be expected to spend all of their time

Natives in the US territories. The United States congress ordered all Native Americans of the western

Sitting Bull a Lakota Chief who continued to live a nomadic way of life off the reservation. Colonel
Custer attempted to combat this unconventional adversary without adapting his tactics. Colonel Custer

Colonel Custer the opportunity to understand the fundamental change in tactics the natives were

According to Carolyn Bloomer, mental activities can affect visual perception such as memory,
projection, expectation, selectivity, habituation, salience, dissonance, culture and words (Lester, 2006).
From looking at the poster, the viewers probably will remember original version of Maleficent which
is called Sleeping Beauty, produced by Disney as well in year 1959. In the Sleeping Beauty,
Maleficent is truly evil and she curses Aurora, the princess. However, in Maleficent, it is more about
background and history of her and why she is being evil. Besides, the viewers may have expectation
on the character of Maleficent. With the costume and characteristic of Maleficent, they may expect she
must be a very evil and wicked character in the movie. This is because the Maleficent is one of the
most popular and recognizable villains among Disney princess series animation movies. With the
green glow under her hands, it also lets viewers expect that she is a villain because for the viewers
who watch Disney series movies before, lime green colour is a harbinger of evil (Anon., 2015). For

someone had taken the time to explain that the old software would no longer be supported by the

The Benefits Of Safe Sex In Schools
I: Introduction
There have been many debates surrounding the proposition to teach safe sex and sexual health in
schools. It is a topic that many people have very strong beliefs and opinions on, and with an
increasingly liberal, open minded society there has been a large push towards incorporating safe sex in
schools and educating students on what safe sex is and how it can be done. A large number of studies
that have shown abstinence only policies are ineffective at preventing pregnancy and the transmission
of STDs, however many people still hold onto the belief that when talking about sex in schools we
should be teaching abstinence only because the only way to prevent pregnancy and STDs is if you do
not have sex at all and teaching about safe sex conflicts with many student s religious beliefs. People
who believe in abstinence only policies, or no sexual education at all, also hold onto the belief that
teaching safe sex education in schools will cause students to experiment and have sex, whereas if they
were not exposed to the discussion of sex in school, they would remain abstinent. While abstinence is
truly the only 100% effective means to not getting an STD or pregnant, it is highly ineffective and
doing our students more harm than good.
II: History
Teaching safe sex in schools dates back to 1916 when Maurice Bigelow wanted to promote teaching
about reproduction and sex in order to prevent the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).
Bigelow also wanted to coerce students into waiting to have sex with someone they love, in hopes to
lower the number of people they have sex with, rather than having many partners (Carter, 2001). The
idea at this time was to teach sex to protect core, American family values; however, Bigelow s view
was incredibly progressive thinking. Sex had not been a topic of classroom discussion before this
time. III: Critical Media Literacy
The topic of safe sex tends to lean with political views. If someone who identifies as a conservative, or
tends to lean more to the right on the political spectrum, were to talk about sexual education, in
general they believe in abstinence only policies, teaching about sex at home and leaving it out of
schools, or omitting any discussion

In the essay Black Teenagers Defy Pop Culture Portrayals , Laura Stepp talks about the stereotypes
black boys and girls face. They face being overly sexualized in pop culture, being careless when it
comes to sex, accused of want nothing but sex and becoming a teen parent. I was somewhat aware of
the stereotypes young black people face but not in depth.
I knew that black people were overly sexualized in pop culture and social media. But I wasn t aware
that people expect black youth to be teen parents and only care about sex. Teen pregnancy has gone
down significantly over two decades. The birth rate went down by 44% and is now 47%. Black youth
has the stereotype of being overly sexual. According to a survey taken

Kafka Utilize Shintoism
Before this discussion all I knew about Shintoism is that it is an ethnic religion of Japan and rather
than a unified religion, it is a collection of beliefs and mythology, which places emphasis on daily
ritual practices. After this discussion I learnt that the Shinto religion is the belief that gods and humans
are not separated by metaphysical boundaries. In Shinto, spirits and humans exist side by side, which
suggests that the spiritual world and the physical world are the same.
This helped me understand how Kafka utilises Shintoism, to link it to key concepts, themes and how
he applies it to symbols in the novel. For instance, there is a quote where Nakata asks are you a
foreigner? , this is because Johnny Walker is a western icon, but also spiritually he is more like a
Shinto spirit. As he stalks cats with flutes, these flutes (pan), the flute is one of the ritual instruments
used to pacify souls. He has a Japanese ideology, however he has a western appearance.
After this discussion, it makes me realise the purpose and reason of why Nakata and Hoshino together
carry out a mission Nakata is psychically compelled to complete. They must find the entrance stone
that separates this world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, before this discussion I did not understand in chapter 23, why he wakes up covered in
blood in a shrine. What makes this place a significant place for a dramatic death, however now I know
that it was Murakami making the connection to Shintoism, as rituals in this religion include Omairi (
shrine visit ). You can see a clear separation between the spiritual and psychical world. It is always
triggered by negative emotions. In this discussion I also learnt about the significance of the torii in
Shinto, that it is seen as the gateway, to symbolize a separation between the high vibrational energy
(sanctity) of the kami world and the lower vibration of the mundane

John Smith vs John Winthrop
Jessica Helin Paper 1 U.S. History 1 GEN223 John Smith vs. John Winthrop In the early years of
America, there was a great deal of political and religious turmoil occurring in England. People wanted
to escape to a place where they wouldn t be outlawed for their independent congregations and
personal philosophies that they believed in. Eminent men, like John Smith and John Winthrop, saw
America as a great opportunity to start over where they could establish new communities separated
and undisturbed by England. They each wrote a proposal to the people of England to recruit them to
come and help establish colonies in the New World. Both of these men had very different visions of

their land because they will have greater use for it. He goes on to say, Six or seven hundred have been
the most that have been seen together when they gathered themselves to have surprised Captain Smyth
at Pamaunke, having but 15 to withstand the worst of their fury. By mentioning this, Smith is assuring
his readers that they are much stronger than the Native Americans, as it only took 15 settlers to fight
off the upward hundreds of them. He tries to make it clear that these people are inferior as well as
incapable of the same standards of civilization as white men. Smith adds more to his claim when
describes them as, inconstant in everything, but what fear constraints them to keep. Crafty, timorous,
quick of apprehension and very ingenious. Some are of disposition fearful, some bold, most cautious,
all savage. He goes on to talk, in great depth, about their apparel and how the better sort cover
themselves in animal skin, while the rest of the majority cover themselves with grass and leaves. Most
of them would additionally adorn themselves with other things, such as beads, copper, feathers, rat
tails, snakes, paintings, etc. To the Indians, these were among things that they coveted. But to Smith,
he just saw them as trash. Used to the way the colonists dressed, Smith thought the Indians looked
barbaric in comparison. John Winthrop had a very

Benitoite Research Paper
Benitoite is a very unique mineral that has a beautiful appearance. It is classified as metamorphic rock
which means it had to go under the metamorphic process to get into the form its in. Since this is rare
mineral there are not very many places on earth where Benitoite is found. As of right now, California
is the only place where it is found. It is the state gem of California because I believe its rarity is a
special symbol to the state. In order to find this gem, a person would have to go to the Benitoite Gem
Mine, in San Benito County, California. The main use for this mineral is for jewelry because of its
shiny blue and violet appearance. Although Benitoite is a valuable and exquisite gemstone, its

economies, our condition, our abilities as people, and our forms for settling on choices with respect to
collaboration at the worldwide level. These issues frequently end up being interconnected, in spite of
the fact that they may not appear to be so at first. For instance, vitality utilization drives environmental

Analysis of Themes in Rear Window Essay
Fear of Marriage and Voyeurism in Rear Window
In Alfred Hitchcock s 1954 classic thriller Rear Window, Jimmy Stewart stars as L.B. Jeffries, a world
traveling magazine photographer accustomed to living a fast pace active lifestyle. When Jefferies
injures himself taking a risky picture he is immobilized, confined to a wheelchair inside his apartment
for two months. Bored with his uneventful life he becomes completely obsessed with the lives of his
neighbors spending the majority of his waking hours watching them from his window. To obtain a
better view he begins using a telescopic lens from one of his cameras. By watching his neighbors

Jefferies claims that Lisa is just not the right girl for [him] because she is too committed to high
society and materialistic for him. Jefferies barely acknowledges her and focuses most of his attention
on watching the neighbors apartments specifically the Thorwalds. She is unable to divert his attention
from the window even with the most forward flirtations. It is not until she puts herself on the other
side and into the movie that he becomes interested in her. Lisa finally becomes the subject of his gaze
and only then does Jeffries show any sexual attraction towards her. Near the end of the movie when
Lisa breaks into Thorwald s apartment, Jeffries does not see the same Lisa he saw when she stood by
him and sat in his lap. This dangerous act of bravery and courage proves to Jefferies that she is
capable of more than he previously thought. By exposing her willingness to take risks he sees that
there is more to her than high society and fashion. He now looks upon a guilty intruder exposed by a
dangerous man threatening her with punishment Mulvey 207 . He is aroused by this new spontaneous
side of her. From this scene we see that Lisa Freemont cannot become a part of the movie until she
becomes a character in the movie within the movie. This creates a new perception of Lisa

What Is The Death Penalty Cruel And Unusual Punishment
The death penalty is something that has been debated for many years, as people wonder whether
carrying out the death penalty constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. The definition of cruel and
unusual punishment includes deliberately degrading punishment, such as torture or a punishment that
is to sever for the crime committed. I believe the death penalty to be inhumane and unnecessary no
matter the circumstances. Whether how horrible acts of the criminals are I feel the death penalty is
unethical. Clearly, those in favor of the death penalty see the world through the saying an eye for an
eye or the justification from the idea of retribution. Retribution is like justice such as people are
punished because they deserved to be punished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On December 14, 2009, Kenneth Biros from Ohio was sentenced to death by lethal injection.
However, instead of the tradition three drug combination executioners used one drug. During the
process it took executioners thirty minutes to find a vein for the needle, compared with the two hours
spend hunting for a vein on the last prisoner Ohio tried to kill, Romell Broom. (New York Times,
2009) The other prisoner Broom was due for lethal injection but, after eighteen attempts the
executioners gave up. One of the most memorable botched executions was of Frank J. Coppola who
was sentenced to death by electric chair on August 10th, 1982. After an excruciating 55 seconds of the

the room with smoke and the awful smell of burning flesh. Clearly showing the long, horrible process
the death penalty must go through is a cruel process that shouldn t be allowed in the United States.
Today s justice system is a complex system that has many problems and isn t perfect. The hardest part
of the justice system today is to determine if an individual is guilty or innocent. The death penalty is
thought to sway or scare individuals into following the law and to avoid the chance of being put to
death. The death penalty is an invalid act set towards

Chaucer Essay
A person can almost wholly learn the history of the world though literature that has been written. This
is because the people and times have such a great influence on the writers and their work. Authors did
not simply grab ideas from the sky. These ideas came from their mind; they wrote about what they
knew. And what they knew is what surrounds them, whether it be war, peace, or a time of transition. In
the early centuries, religion ruled the land and people. The first rulers came about from the idea that
God or some other Supreme Being from up above sent forth these people to rule over the land.
Literature from these times was highly influenced by religion. Almost every piece of work up until the
18th century contains some kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A pilgrimage is a very sacred aspect of religion. It is an act of religious devotion, where a person or
groups of people travel to a holy site in honor of a religious figure (Quinn 76).
Almost every literary work ever produced at the time that Chaucer lived had religious undertones.
This was because of the simple fact that quot;the church was the fountain of literacy and sole purveyor
of what education there was during these centuries quot;(Vinson 8). The church was the law. If
someone went against what the Bible said, then you went against the government. One might assume
that if the Bible was the law, then the government would be holy, good, and obey what it preaches, but
Chaucer saw, from inside the palace walls, that this assumption was wrong. Chaucer saw corruption
and greed. He displayed this in his story for everyone to see. Of all the pilgrims on the pilgrimage, a
third of them were associated with the church in some way. He uses these characters to show how
corrupt the church had become. The monk in particular is described as man who quot;didn t give a
plucked hen for that text which says that hunters are not holy men, and that a monk, when he is
heedless of duty, is like a fish out of water quot;(Chaucer 11). Chaucer is saying that the monk would
rather hunt than pray, which is odd for a man of the cloth and especially for one on a religious

The Pain Of Anne Bradstreet
Anne Bradstreet is very fond of her material possessions and her home. The pain, that she suffered, is
evident throughout the poem. Her life, for some time, had revolved around her domestic possessions.
To her these items represented her family, life, love, memories (past, present, and future), and possible
female inheritance. Bradstreet is deeply hurt by the loss of her material goods and possible questions
why God let such a thing happen. She had deeply invested herself, as well as her worth, within the
value of those items that she lost and was slowly streaming away from her spiritual connection to
God. Towards the end of the poem you can see a slow revelation that develops, which she acquires as
a consequence of her loss, and ultimately

  • 2. Troubled Asset Relief Program Essay United States has long been portrayed as the country that has the biggest economy in the world. In fact, United States have the highest gross domestic product which known for its strong economic growth and sustainability, for its currency as an standard unit currency for international trading market, and for its significant influence and impact to the world market as the leading global trader. Furthermore, United States was able to surpass other countries as it is able to accumulate its capital more quickly through its extensive capitalistic approach. However, the market of the United States suddenly collapsed and immediately resulted in the inevitable economic breakdown in late 2000 s until late 2010s. In fact, the government intervention was necessary for the banks not to loss hundred percent of their assets and to further save its financial sector as much as banks never wanted to go bankrupt as banks do have businesses based on and trust and solvency record. Thus, the United States established the Troubled Asset Relief Program or TARP with a purpose of insuring all the troubled assets and reinforcing the banks with more capitals for them to further able to operate and withstand losses where in fact, $700 billion was allotted in this program. With the help of Troubled Asset Relief Program, the government and the Federal Reserve were able to help JP Morgan Chase to buyout Bear Stearns with $10 per share compared to JP Morgan Chase s offer of $2 per share. Furthermore, the Federal Reserve and Treasury expanded another $30 billion into the fund of Troubled Asset Relief Program to completely accommodate the bailout cost of American International Group, which received an overall total bailout amount of $85 billion. Moreover, the United States government turned out buying out a third of Citi company to save it from going under. Thus, it is clearly shows that both the government and the Federal Reserve play a crucial role in the hopes of recovery of the financial sector of the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Environment On The Environment The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated by environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results in asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are naïve about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through sixth need to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollution and learn practices at school that will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well. Applications such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will help promote good health for children as it will help improve air quality for them. Education Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand the characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of this topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is environmentalism, by stating that, everything that we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is always changing. Today people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have created many problems like landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters (Norwood 1996). Once understanding the facts, students will record a weeks worth of visible pollution by spreading a thin layer of Vaseline on one side of several 3 by 5 index cards then placing the cards in a variety of places where they will be undisturbed for one week. At the end of the week collect all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Weary Blues Mood The Harlem Renaissance (1918 1937) is a period of flourishing African American artistic culture. New styles of art and music such as the blues originate from this time. Many African American artists such as Langton Hughes utilize art to express their ideas and culture to other societies. Hughes specifically tries to convey the state of mind of African Americans through poetry. He achieves this by creating a depressing mood in his main poem The Weary Blues. Through symbolism, metaphors and emotive words, Hughes evokes the melancholic mood in order to shed light on the reality of African Americans in the 1920s. • 11. NW Singers And Chamber Choir Essay NW Singers and Chamber Choir Concert Report For this assignment, I decided to attend the NW Singers and Chamber Choir performance. The reason why I chose this option over the others is because I ve always found organized vocal music to be very beautiful. Listening to music that uses only the human voice is striking and has a certain personal feel to it. I also feel that I can relate more to choir music, as I am in the choir at my church. This concert was directed by Ms. Susanne Spencer VanDyke, accompanied by Dr. Saundra Bishop on the piano. My favorite selection from the program was the one preformed last that night I Sing Because I m Happy. I chose this as my favorite because of its upbeat happy feel. Its cheerful tune almost lead people in the audience to start dancing. The two musical elements from this selection that stood out to me the most were its dynamics and tempo. The choir and piano would often employ softer and louder dynamics throughout the performance. There were times when they would repeat the phrase I m so happy yes, softer, then slowly increase into a much louder and more powerful repeat, giving it a sense of a buildup of joy. Next is the tempo. It seems as though the tempo in this piece would sometimes change, moving from a faster to slower rate to, again, most likely to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. Ottoman Disadvantages and its Implications on The Siege of... Under Suleiman the Magnificent the Ottoman Empire was a force to be reckoned with, it ruled the Middle East and Suleiman was quickly realizing his goal of advancing into Europe. However in 1529 a major military upset in the Austrian city of Vienna would halt the Islamic Ottoman expansion and save Europe from the possibility of Ottoman control. However this might not had been the case if it were not for several key disadvantages the Ottoman Empire had against the Viennese. Suleiman the Magnificent s defeat during the siege of Vienna, 1529, was caused by poor weather conditions, chaos and disorganization amongst the Ottoman ranks, and a much stronger Viennese defense than was anticipated. On May 10, 1529 Sultan Suleiman left Istanbul on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This divided Hungary into two states, Royal Hungary and Ottoman Hungary, this division lasted until 1700. In the spring of 1529 Suleiman the Magnificent began to construct his massive army in Ottoman Bulgaria, his objective is to conquer and secure control over all of Hungary and eliminate the threat posed by Ferdinand I and the Holy Roman Empire. Estimates of the size of Suleiman s army vary vastly from around 100,000 men to well over 300,000. The army also consisted of many units of Sapahi, the elite Ottoman Calvary, and thousands and thousands of Janissaries, an extremely well trained Ottoman fighting force. With such a vast group moving all at once there were certain inherent difficulties the Ottomans faced. The biggest of these would be the sheer chaos caused by the disorganization. Desertion was particularly rampant amongst the Ottoman forces and with the disorganization it was nearly impossible to properly distribute resources, malnourishment was a big problem because of the difficulty of acquiring food. This would mark a major disadvantage of the Ottoman morale; it diminished their will to fight, and thus, their will to win. Suleiman launched his campaign on May 10th, because this was so late in the year, the weather was almost immediately a problem. In addition, he wrote the driver was running over the rubble strips usually found in the outside emergency lane to ensure he knew the unit s position on the roadway and hopefully to give extra room to other travelers on the roads that morning. The article was unclear if the red light and siren were activated during the transport at the time of the incident. I feel the driver of the unit was exercising due regard for the safety of himself, crew member, patient, and all others they may contact that dreadful January morning. A View from the Bridge is a play written by Arthur Miller. Miller s inspiration for this play is close to his heart. He grew up in New York City; his parents were illegal immigrants into the United States looking for work. Alfieri is a key component, not only is he a character he is also a narrator. He acts as a chorus to the play and an aid to the audience. He bluntly tells Eddie that there is no positive way out. When Eddie implies he may have feelings for Catherine Alfieri is already aware and implies that this will be his fatal flaw. he never realises it, but though the years there is too much love for the daughter, there is too much love for the niece . • 16. The Sexualization Of Women And Girls The sexualization of women and girls surround Americans and is damaging to females as well as to American society. Females receive the sexualized messages regarding their appearance and how they should act via the media, retailers, and American society s acceptance of these behaviors. As a mother, Girl Scout Leader, and school paraprofessional I cannot help but to question are these messages inflicting psychological damage on girls? Whom can I hold accountable for sexualizing female youth? What can I do to prevent sexualization from affecting all of the young girls in my life? The sexualization of girls is unacceptable because it is degrading to females, can cause serious life long psychological damage and sexist attitudes, and may lead to violence against women and girls. Sexualization differs from healthy sexuality. According to the American Psychological Association Task Force (APA), healthy sexuality is something that develops spontaneously in people that have not suffered any kind of traumatic sexual crisis. Healthy sexuality includes affection, a relationship and/or companionship, respect, and healthy intimacy between consenting people (APA 1). Sexualization, on the other hand, is something that is forced upon a person. The APA defines sexualization as a cause that ensues when one of the following causes occur: A person s value comes only from his or her sexual appeal or behavior, to the exclusion of other characteristics; 2.) A person is held to a standard that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. The Importance Of Outdoor Recreation On The Environment INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that planet Earth is ever changing. The emergence of new species, extinction of extant species, rise and fall of climate, and much more are completely natural occurrences; however, there is one terrifying force that changes the world much faster than most of its inhabitants can handle: humans. Ever since humans began to populate the Earth, we have been exploiting natural resources and depleting populations, thus harming countless communities and ecosystems. As our population continues to increase, we destroy more and more natural habitats, negatively impacting biological diversity by decreasing the abundance of individuals per species (Hunter 2007). Many studies in the past have looked into how overexploitation of resources, habitat loss due to development, and the release of fossil fuels from production result in the decline of biodiversity (Goulletquer et al. 2014), but one form of human disturbance is often overlooked: recreation. The increasing popularity of outdoor recreation can affect wildlife in numerous ways, usually resulting in the avoidance of disturbed habitat (Coppes et al. 2017). Many studies have been done observing the impact of human disturbance on flagship species in popular recreational destinations such as forests and oceans. For instance, one study done in the Southern Black Forest revealed that red deer avoided areas near hiking trails, preferred to live in dense, undisturbed areas in the forest, and were more active ... Lazarus HIS 102 W1: Western Civilization II 10/25/2017 Machiavelli The Father of Modern Political Thought There are many reasons why Machiavelli is widely considered the beginner of modern political thought, one of the many is he studied strictly the politicians, and businessmen. Machiavelli recognized the political playing field as a vile place only for the most dominating and cunning of political giants. One of Machiavelli s most famous work, On Principalities, or known by the other title, The Prince, absolutely announced a break with previous political beliefs secured between moral and religion system, it examines the nature of his views on power that are still somewhat in existent today. Machiavelli discusses in this work power over the people, oppressive power, and shared power. Machiavelli discusses two specific groups of people such as the political elite and the general public within this work. While Machiavelli highlighted power over in relations between the political elite, he examines a different kind of power in the affiliation between a prince and his public. Machiavelli noted that he can share his power with his people, since he can trust his people more than he can the nobles. The nobles cannot be satisfied if their ruler acts honorably, because their desires are more ethical than the nobles are. The people are more forgiving and less greedy so he can place more trust in his people and empower his trusting public. Though the public may be more trustworthy Machiavelli also stated that a prince needed to be harsh in the treatment of both the mixed sectors and the new sectors to avoid rebellions, the prince must be harsh and cautious. It is easier for a prince to hold control after he has already stopped a rebellion by empowering his power. Once the prince takes control of the city, he cannot forget it, for his control can be easily lost. Without order within his own court let alone his public, the prince would soon fall and possible lose his control over everything. More or less how the prince started at the bottom and slowly made his way to becoming a great king or he died at the feet of his people or someone of higher power before reaching ... When many people hear human development, they tend to think about infancy or adolescent years when kids go through puberty, but the most amazing developmental processes take place in the prenatal stage. The amount of growth and change that occurs during the nine month gestational period is almost incomprehensible. Prenatal development is broken down into three stages, the Germinal stage, the Embryonic Stage, and the Fetal stage. This paper will mainly focus on the embryonic stage because there is a vast amount of crucial development that happens during this period. The embryonic stage is also exciting because it is during this stage that the mass of cells that are supposed to be a human, starts to actually resemble a baby. The embryonic stage begins two weeks after conception, after implantation has taken place, and lasts until week eight. During this time, some body structure begins to appear and by week eight, the embryo has all basic organs and body parts. They are all very fragile and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 21. Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight On The Beaches Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight on the Beaches speech is arguably one of the most memorable and inspirational speeches by a top leader in the Second World War. Churchill delivered the speech to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on June 4, 1940, approximately four weeks after he was made prime minister of Great Britain. The speech itself was a report for the House of Commons on how the warfront proceeded, regarding all aspects of the British armed forces. Prior to the speech, Britain had suffered a major military loss in France and Belgium, after assisting Belgian people to defend their country from German intrusion. Unfortunately, the British s attempt to protect Belgium was unsuccessful as King Leopold of Belgium later surrendered to Nazi Germany, leaving thousands of French and British soldiers stranded at the harbour of Dunkirk in northern France. Due to the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) having to be rescued from France, Churchill believed that it would be a perfect time to broadcast the inspirational speech to his people. Churchill s speech clearly highlighted the urgent need of winning the war and recalled the disgraceful rescue of the BEF from France. In the speech, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Allies complied by sending troops to defend Belgium from German capture at the Dunkirk bridgehead. The Belgian King, however, surrendered; thousands of soldiers were trapped there. The battle of Dunkirk was considered to be a significant loss as Churchill presumed perhaps 20,000 or 30,000 men might be re embarked. However, this was not the case, for there was a successful evacuation of Dunkirk through the stout efforts of the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. The Importance Of Leniency On Permit Requirements Leniency on Permit Requirements Then, FWC s permit requirements are lenient on agriculture, silviculture, and in the 10 or Fewer On Site permit. Agricultural activities such as tilling, planting, harvesting, and roller chopping do not require a permit even if there are gopher tortoise burrows in the area ( Gopher Tortoise Permitting Guidelines , 2017). The same guidelines are applicable for silviculture, even though silviculture activities have the possibility of degrading the habitat type tortoises require. If relocations are going to be a primary conservation effort for the gopher tortoise, then increasing research on relocated gopher tortoise populations must be a priority. Overall, the FWC s management goal is to increase the gopher tortoise population. So, information on the long term welfare of the relocated populations is imperative. The downsides to the long term data collection and research required is the resources needed. • 23. The Progress of an Aztec Warrior The image of The Progress of an Aztec Warrior taken from the Codex Mendoza gives us some idea of the highly ritualized, even religious, character of Aztec warfare (Austin 209). The dress adopted by Aztec warriors was hardly protective: from the depictions in the Codex Mendoza it appears that they fought mostly naked. Although protected by a shield, otherwise they were adorned with feathers, flowers, and animal skins, indicating that the warrior s identity was in some way dedicated to the totemic animal gods of the Aztec religion. But the ideology of warfare was practically inculcated in the Aztecs from birth. Inga Clendinnen notes that childbed was conventionally designated a battlefield, where a woman could take a captive by capturing a baby. The midwife greeted the birth of a male child with warcries and a formal exhortation, addressed to the child, but directed, of course, to the panting, newly delivered mother, who was emphatically not given the baby to hold: My precious son, my youngest one...heed, hearken: thy home is not here, for thou art an eagle, a jaguar...here is only the place of thy nest...out there thou hast been consecrated...War is thy desert, thy task. Thou shalt give drink, nourishment, food to the sun, lord of the earth...perhaps thou wilt receive the gift, perhaps thou wilt merit death by the obsidian knife...The flowered death by the obsidian knife [that is, death on the killing stone] (Clendinnen 17) Because the Aztec mode of warfare was focused on ... The term diversity represents the multitude of individual differences that make people different from and similar to each other, (Kinicki Kreitner, 2009). Although some people view diversity as an issue of age, race, gender, religion, or sexual preference, it is actually much more than that. It actually pertains to the differences that make each individual special or unique and this is why it becomes important to learn how to interact and grow with one another. • 26. Advancements Of The Early Modern Period Medicine It is difficult to decide whether the developments, inventions and discoveries of the Early Modern Period contributed to European power or whether it contributed to European progress. The reason this is, is because in the case of Europe, especially in this time period, power and progress seemed to go hand in hand. In the case of discovery the countries that had the most power led the way in discovering new land, it was this curiosity in expanding power that led to the progress of new worlds and opportunities. The invention of the printing press contributed to providing knowledge and therefore an aspect of power to people who did not have it beforehand and it was the progress of medicines and sciences that ensured not only the power and superiority of European knowledge but also the ability to progress to the next level of knowledge. From the beginnings of the Early Modern Period medicine was essentially summed up in high mortality rates and the notion that men and women were two completely different people anatomically, treatments were largely herbal and the type of doctor you went to see depended on what was wrong with you and if you could afford them . Attaining and preserving a state of health, therefore, required balance, and that equilibrium was inherently elusive and easily forfeited . However, while there was some progress in this field throughout the period it was not as drastic as one would expect, the Galenic body of the four humours was still a dominant ... • 27. The Legalization of Assisted Suicide Assisted Suicide has through out history caused controversy among our society. There are two sides to this issue, one that passionately supports it, and those who religiously disagree. I believe that assisted suicide should become legal for several reasons. Assisted suicide gives individuals the right to end their suffering when they personally feel that their time has come to die. Assisted suicide should become legal because if one can decide to put an animal out of its misery, why shouldn t that person have the same right to put themselves out of their own misery if that hardship came upon them. Though the topic may seem morbid, dying people in grave medical circumstances have rights. It s important we recognize their right to end their own suffering and respect the very personal decisions these people are forced to make. It is legal for humans to decide whether or not their pet should be euthanized. These reasons may vary. According to Pet Euthanasia, people decide to put their animals down because, of inconveniences, living changes, and severe sicknesses. The owner of a pet may move their home to a different location. Many different places have different rules that may vary one including not allowing pets. In this case some owners decide to euthanize their beloved pet to simply get rid of a problem. An owner may also come across inconveniences due to their pet. For example, when leaving for a relaxing holiday vacation, the cost to board your pet would cost too much. ... But if more harm was being done than good, the Chinese as Lin Zexu says, would remove it for the world. China was very strict on Europeans living in China. Emperor Qian only allowed Europeans that he thought in service of the dynasty to stay, and they must obey strict rules. Europeans had to adopt Chinese dress, were forced to stay in their designated precincts , and were never allowed to return to or communicate with their home country. It was the respect of these rules by the British rulers, according to Lin that China had welcomed so hospitably trade with England for last two hundred years. But recently Lin describes a change in the English trade. He begins to describe this group as barbarians that are interested only in profit, regardless of who they hurt. they were taking advantage of the Chinese people, something the Chinese government saw as a huge harm that they needed to remove. The Tragedy Of The Red Tails Films do not simply give someone words and ask them to create a world of their own; films offer a complete other dimension that the viewer belongs to for a few brief hours. Without films like Saving Private Ryan, society would not be able to experience the emotions of, in this case, war, but the emotions of other people in general. Those who watched Milk for the first time were suddenly smacked in the face by the reality of what it was like to stand up for their rights. The audiences of Red Tails saw what it was like to get treated like you were less than someone else, and how people needed to prove their worth to others. None of these films had anything to do with events current from their times of release, but sometimes it is good to empathize with our ancestors. Movies do not need to only ever show people being oppressed in order to connect with an audience though, sometimes it is good to just allow people to feel raw emotions. Crash addresses the oppressed by labeling everyone as oppressed and by also labeling everyone as the oppressor, allowing the film to truly connect to all audiences. Paul Haggis uses the film Crash to portray what stereotypes people really think in, using the language as a vessel to take the audience within their own subconscious. The Ratio Of The Monetary Model It is no surprise that there have been many literatures on the determination of exchange rates given the significant impact that movement in exchange rates have on a world s political and economic stability as well as the welfare of individual countries. It plays an important role in international investments, company profits and a countries macroeconomic fundamental factor such as unemployment, wages and interest rates among others. This has led to the development of many models and economic theories, one of which is the monetary model. Despite this, economists still cannot agree as to which model best explains movement in exchange rates because the results obtained when testing different models often contradict one another. Though the research in this paper doesn t compare different economic models, it does look at the sticky and flexible price monetary model of exchange rate determination and its variables. The paper tests the adequacy of the monetary model (how good a job the model does in explaining movement in exchange rates). It also shows how GDP, interest rates, money supply and inflation influences the nominal exchange rates for the Eurozone, Japan and the UK against the USD. It is a topic that many people have very strong beliefs and opinions on, and with an increasingly liberal, open minded society there has been a large push towards incorporating safe sex in schools and educating students on what safe sex is and how it can be done. A large number of studies that have shown abstinence only policies are ineffective at preventing pregnancy and the transmission of STDs, however many people still hold onto the belief that when talking about sex in schools we should be teaching abstinence only because the only way to prevent pregnancy and STDs is if you do not have sex at all and teaching about safe sex conflicts with many student s religious beliefs. People who believe in abstinence only policies, or no sexual education at all, also hold onto the belief that teaching safe sex education in schools will cause students to experiment and have sex, whereas if they were not exposed to the discussion of sex in school, they would remain abstinent. While abstinence is truly the only 100% effective means to not getting an STD or pregnant, it is highly ineffective and doing our students more harm than good. II: History Teaching safe sex in schools dates back to 1916 when Maurice Bigelow wanted to promote teaching about reproduction and sex in order to prevent the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). Bigelow also wanted to coerce students into waiting to have sex with someone they love, in hopes to lower the number of people they have sex with, rather than having many partners (Carter, 2001). The idea at this time was to teach sex to protect core, American family values; however, Bigelow s view was incredibly progressive thinking. Sex had not been a topic of classroom discussion before this time. III: Critical Media Literacy The topic of safe sex tends to lean with political views. If someone who identifies as a conservative, or tends to lean more to the right on the political spectrum, were to talk about sexual education, in general they believe in abstinence only policies, teaching about sex at home and leaving it out of schools, or omitting any discussion ... Frontier Quadrants Intrinsic The top two quadrants of the matrix are called the strategic and structural frontiers. Taken together they comprise the upper level and are called the frontier intrinsic or voluntary activities. Activities here are defined by Martin to be those that have a negative or not immediately apparent positive effect on shareholder value. He goes on to say that activities in the strategic quadrant may increase shareholder value and become instrumental (move to the choice quadrant of the foundation) by generating positive reactions from customers, employees, or legal authorities. It s important to understand that actions in the upper left strategic quadrant are by choice of corporation management as part of profit making strategy. Kafka Utilize Shintoism Before this discussion all I knew about Shintoism is that it is an ethnic religion of Japan and rather than a unified religion, it is a collection of beliefs and mythology, which places emphasis on daily ritual practices. After this discussion I learnt that the Shinto religion is the belief that gods and humans are not separated by metaphysical boundaries. In Shinto, spirits and humans exist side by side, which suggests that the spiritual world and the physical world are the same. This helped me understand how Kafka utilises Shintoism, to link it to key concepts, themes and how he applies it to symbols in the novel. For instance, there is a quote where Nakata asks are you a foreigner? , this is because Johnny Walker is a western icon, but also spiritually he is more like a Shinto spirit. As he stalks cats with flutes, these flutes (pan), the flute is one of the ritual instruments used to pacify souls. He has a Japanese ideology, however he has a western appearance. • 51. Chaucer Essay A person can almost wholly learn the history of the world though literature that has been written. This is because the people and times have such a great influence on the writers and their work. Authors did not simply grab ideas from the sky. These ideas came from their mind; they wrote about what they knew. And what they knew is what surrounds them, whether it be war, peace, or a time of transition. In the early centuries, religion ruled the land and people. The first rulers came about from the idea that God or some other Supreme Being from up above sent forth these people to rule over the land. Literature from these times was highly influenced by religion. Almost every piece of work up until the 18th century contains some kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A pilgrimage is a very sacred aspect of religion. It is an act of religious devotion, where a person or groups of people travel to a holy site in honor of a religious figure (Quinn 76). Almost every literary work ever produced at the time that Chaucer lived had religious undertones. This was because of the simple fact that quot;the church was the fountain of literacy and sole purveyor of what education there was during these centuries quot;(Vinson 8). The church was the law. If someone went against what the Bible said, then you went against the government. One might assume that if the Bible was the law, then the government would be holy, good, and obey what it preaches, but Chaucer saw, from inside the palace walls, that this assumption was wrong. Chaucer saw corruption and greed. He displayed this in his story for everyone to see. Of all the pilgrims on the pilgrimage, a third of them were associated with the church in some way. He uses these characters to show how corrupt the church had become. The monk in particular is described as man who quot;didn t give a plucked hen for that text which says that hunters are not holy men, and that a monk, when he is heedless of duty, is like a fish out of water quot;(Chaucer 11).
