away to emerging chaos, and behaves as a tyrant throughout the play. In Lear, Shakespeare creates a

the illegitimate son of the Earl of Gloucester, is an outright villain. His misdeeds are the cunningly

Bob Yule is a very corrupt character. He beats his daughter, he doesn t care for his children, and in the

In the music video/song Strange Fruit , the phrase strange fruit doesn t really refer to a fruit that is
strange. It actually refers to people being lynched and hanging from trees. More specifically, the term
strange fruit applies to the lynching of African Americans. This song was performed by Billie Holiday
in 1939 at the Cafe Society in New York. The music video was actually a recorded performance from
1959. The song was written and performed because the purpose of was to raise awareness and fight
against African American lynching because during that time, African Americans were being
discriminated and abused. Billie Holiday in the music video/song Strange Fruit displays logos through
context and imagery, pathos through her sorrowful tone and facial expressions, and lastly, ethos
because she won many awards during her career in singing, and Strange Fruit is one of them. The
lyrics of the song have contains a handful of imagery describing African Americans being lynched.
For example, Blood on the leaves and blood on the root , is a very descriptive example and puts an
image in your mind of seeing a tree with African Americans hanging with blood dripping from their
bodies (genius.com). This line makes it seem like the blood that is dripping from the people hanging is
feeding the tree s root, and this could symbolize growth because America was a growing country back
then and still is today. Back then, African Americans were physically and mentally abused, and the
point of the song was to put an end to that and it did eventually. Today, African Americans are still
being discriminated for job opportunities because of stereotypes people made that make African
Americans look bad. Throughout the course of time, we did make changes, which relates to the line,

for crows to pluck (genius.com) This line has a very dark meaning and image because crows always
symbolize evil and darkness. The fact that this line puts a picture of bodies being devoured by crows
