Classical Conditioning Vs Observational Learning
From an early age, it is drilled into our heads: Restlessness, distraction, and ignorance are the enemies
of success. We re told that learning is all self discipline, that we must confine ourselves to designated
study areas, turn off the music, and maintain a strict ritual if we want to ace that test, memorize that
presentation, and create writing assignment.
There are three major methods of learning. Which are classical conditioning, operant conditioning,
and observational learning. Classical conditioning theory involves learning a new behavior via the
process of association. In simple terms, two stimuli are linked together to produce a new learned
response in a person or animal. There are three stages of classical conditioning stage 1: Before ...

This method is better in a way that by observing others, we can quickly gain knowledge about which
behaviors are likely to lead to good outcomes. What I remember from my childhood is that everything
I learned was by watching everyone else. For example every time my mom would want to teach me
something knew she would demonstrate it to me. I learned a lot by seeing what others did. When my
aunt started to cook I loved watching her cook to see how she made the food. Now that I became older
I know how to cook by just watching my aunt cook when I was younger. I also learned how to ride the
bike because my mom thought me how to ride it with demonstrations. I believe most of the people in
this world learn by observing others. Is an easier way to learn and is not too complicated. Just like the
saying monkey see, monkey do . When people see other people doing something they want to do it as
well I believe is just a human instinct we have developed with time. Till this day I learn better with
demonstrations r

Section I, Question 1: In Shearing and Stenning s From the Panopticon to Disney World, the world
renowned fantasy amusement park is revealed to be a compelling embodiment of Michel Foucault s
ideas regarding the disciplinary society. In Foucault s writings on the prison panopticon his idea of a
perfected disciplinary institution of a disciplinary society Foucault describes how inmates (or Disney s
guests) behavior and movements is overseen and tightly controlled (Dillon, p. 371). This level of
control is clear from the moment you enter Disney: barriers, guardrails, and directions guide you to
preordained locations, and Disney employees and rides reinforce those restrictions and guidances at
numerous points throughout your visit (Shearing, p. 301 302). More significantly, in the panopticon
design, inmates are always under surveillance. Further, inmates are aware they are always under
surveillance even if they cannot see their supervisor so that they begin monitoring their own actions to
conform with rules and restrictions (Dillon, p. 371). At Disney, once a guest breaks the rules or
regulations, they quickly become aware that they are being surveilled. Park employees in unassuming
costumes seemingly unrelated to security or rule enforcement are trained to enforce rules and hold
guests accountable as soon as they act out of line, making clear to guests that they are always being
surveilled even if they cannot see the supervisors

The Year That Changed Europe The Start Of World War I

1914 was the year that changed Europe the start of World War I. Total was broke out between
Germany, France, Britain, and Russia and it was the first total war in history. Many historians have
takes on World War I, not that it was just a total war, but also because this time in Europe, it was a
completely different kind of war that was being fought. In Understanding the Great War, World War I
was a break from the history of warfare because of its violent style of fighting, its influence on women
and children, and its propaganda. War of Europe s past were fought like any other wars with plans and
logistics, but WWI was different because its main goal practiced by many fighting nations was ...

A completely different approach from battles in the past was that in World War I, civilians became a
new target. When Germany would invade a country, the troops would attack civilians and even
imprison them (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 45). These prisoners of war were then put into camps on
German territory and because of the blockade against Germany created by Britain to lessen their
resources; the prisoners were being deprived of food (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 62). German military
would even use the prisoners in battles, turning them into human shields for protection (Audoin
Rouzeau Becker 77). German troops even went to the extreme with attacking civilians by exiling them
to face starvation, as German military did with the Armenians (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 64). The
German military used genocide to ultimately fight against their opposing nations. Another way
opposing sides would fight against one another was through the use of tanks and planes, a concept
never used before because of technology. Bombs were then dropped onto enemy s territory, killing
almost all innocent people (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 108). By using excessive violence, psychological
damage that was irreversible was inflicted on a vast majority of soldiers, still inflicting harm even
after the war ended (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 25). This new style of fighting

Eleanor of Aquitaine Essay
Eleanor of Aquitaine
Much has been written about the historical life of Eleanor of Aquitane. Her life, Undoubtedly reads
like legend, at least in part because it is. It is fairly safe to say that the world had never seen a woman
like Eleanor of Aquitane, and it is doubtful that there has been a woman since who could rival her
power, intelligence, beauty and sheer force of will.
Like many other women of her time Eleanor came from a long line of noble and royal blood. Her
lineage can be traced back to the earliest kings of both England and France.(follow link to take a look
at Eleanor s very long family tree http://www.my ged.com/db/page/scokin/12251) Her father William

Fearing her ambitions, Henry had Eleanor imprisoned until his death in 1189.
Eleanor s life was obviously a very complex network of events and relationships. However, the
nuances and specificities of this compelling woman s extraordinary life can not fully be explored here.
For a more in depth historical analysis of Eleanor s life the following web sites and link sites have
proved themselves to be invaluable.

The truly compelling questions of Eleanor s life revolve around how she found the pure strength of
will to live the life that she did as a woman. She undoubtedly had an enormous amount of power,
certainly more than any woman before her, and arguably more than any woman since. Eleanor had the
courage to be exactly the person that she was, regardless of gender, however the question that remains
is how she managed to do so. What was it about her life and her early upbringing that compelled her
to become the woman she was? What influences in Eleanor s life allowed her to pursue her own
dreams and goals in defiance of her social norms and

Chemical Reaction On Chemical Kinetics

Chemical Kinetics
Objective:
This experiment runs many reactions varying the concentrations of the reactants in order to determine
the order for each component and the rate constant.
Introduction:
Chemical kinetics is the study of how fast a chemical reaction occurs and the factors that affect the
speed of reaction.1 Reaction rates are the measure of how much the concentration of reactants change
during a given reaction.1 The rate of change of the reactants, Rate = Ī” [X]/Ī”t, is related to the slope of
the concentration vs. time graph.1 From observing reaction rates, the overall order of the reaction and
the rate constant can be calculated by using the integrated rate laws. For a zero order reaction, the rate
law can be written as [A]t = kt + [A]0, where [A]t is the concentration at a given time, k is the
negative slope, t is the time, and [A]0 is the initial concentration.2 Using the same variables, a first
order reaction can be written as ln[A]t = kt + ln[A]0 and a second order can be written as 1/[A]t = kt +
1/[A]0.2 On a graph, these concentrations are plotted vs. time, allowing the R2 value and equation of
the line to be calculated. The R2 value is used in determining the order of the reaction. The closer the
R2 value is to 1, the more likely that the graph displays the correct reaction order. The y=mx+b
equation provides information about the slope and y intercept, essential when determining the order
and rate constant.

Compare And Contrast The Pardoner And Wife Of Bath s Tale
To eat or not to eat. In this battle of concocted tales, this is where it all boils down to. Both the
Pardoner and the Wife of Bath have surely produced fine stories, each with their own charm; however,
it will not be a battle without a clear winner only one can enjoy a free meal. Although the Wife of Bath
s Tale tapped into a strong topic gender equality it only stated that women want to be equal to men as
well, but never delved in deeper. The story even disregards the problem at hand: a knight who raped a
girl and got away scot free, even finding himself a beautiful and loyal wife. If the story went
differently, the Wife of Bath s Tale has all the components of a great story. Meanwhile, the Pardoner s
Tale , although short, successfully showed the corruptness that humans have, as well as the
consequences if ever one finds themselves stuck in greed s vice grip. Therefore, the Pardoner s tale is
better than the Wife of Bath s Tale because it delves into the darkness of humanity, the consequences
when one has dug themselves too deep and shows how, despite people knowing the result of their
misconduct, will still choose to sink further into darkness. They were after an honourable cause at
first, the three rioters, but as soon as their eyes saw the yellow shimmer inside a bulging bag, they

conclusion/summary is well reasoned and satisfies the objectives you laid out in the introduction. If it
does not, you must be careful to explain why it does not, and what still needs to be learned on this
subject to adequately fulfill the promise of the introduction. Failure is perfectly acceptable, as long as
it was an honest effort and one that has led to a deeper understanding of the subject.
With an eye to the four points above, the paper will be graded roughly as follows: * 40% for content

The Importance Of Globalization
Globalization has been in a toss up on the valuableness of its control and how it benefits the world.
Many views have come up due to the advancement of the world collectively, some believe it has only
benefited society has a whole while others say it has brought only destruction to the social and cultural
aspects. Two professors at highly ranked universities discuss their views on Globalization and how it
has influenced the world. Globalization has greatly impacted the world through its social relations
through culture. Amartya Sen at Harvard University expresses his views on Globalization through the
spread of intellectual ideas and how it takes one great idea to spread across the globe.
Amartya Sen has a positive outtake on the developing nature on Globalization. He believes the rise in
Globalization in the past years as brought a new standard of living through social correlations. In an
example to prove Globalization has benefited the people he uses the history of mathematics, In his
history of mathematics, Howard Eves explains that around 1150 A.D., Gherardo of Cremona, in his
translations from the Arabic, rendered jaib as the Latin sinus, the corresponding word for a cove or a
bay. (Sen 2012, 18). Math is one language that is the same in any country across the globe, Sen was
referring to the concept sine and how it was created in India, but developed in other countries. It was

Motivation And Introduction Of Handwriting
Motivation and Introduction
Handwriting has continued to persist as a means of communication and recording information in day
to day life with the introduction of new technologies. Given its ubiquity in human transactions,
machine recognition of handwriting has a practical significance in reading postal addresses on
envelopes, in amounts in bank cheques, in handwritten fields in forms. Handwriting is a skill that is
personal to individuals. Writing is considered to have made possible much of a culture and
civilization. The reason that handwriting persists in the age of digital computer is the convenience of
paper and pen as compared to keyboards.
The printing press and type writers opened up the world to formatted documents. Computers and
communication technologies such as word processors, fax machines, and emails are having an impact
on literary and handwriting. Widespread acceptance of digital computers seemingly challenges the
future of handwriting. However, in numerous situations, a pen together with a paper is much more
convenient than a keyboard. Ultimately computer will have to process handwriting in an
unconstrained environment, deal with many writing styles and languages, work with arbitrary user
defined alphabets, and understand any handwritten message by any writer.
Handwriting recognition is a pattern classification task which consists of detecting keywords in
handwritten document images. It is the task of transforming a language represented in its spatial form

Typical American Teenager Essay
The typical American teenager goes through many stages of psychosocial change from the ages
between 12 and 18. Adolescence is a difficult time for most because it is a huge transition time from
being a child to becoming an adult. Many of these changes or challenges are so common that they are
experienced by almost everyone. Some are brought on by physical changes in appearance and
hormones while others are more psychological. Famous psychologist, Sigmund Freud, believed that a
person s biological activity will motivate their behavior and development. (Life Span page 36)

She is easily influenced and makes her care about what everyone thinks of her. Having so much

others. When she is made to feel like a prude she gets really upset. She is a good girl but doesn t really
want people to know it. Being called out makes her angry and she doesn t like being opened with
others because she is afraid they will judge her or make fun of her. As many teen girls do, she feels
helpless to how things are and that she can never truly be herself if she wants to be accepted by her
friends. Another teen in the movie is John Bender, also known as just Bender. He is considered to be
the criminal and is the more likely to exhibit risky behavior. He does drugs and often gets himself into
trouble. He is rebellious and does whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Bender is angry and his
attitude is sarcastic and judgmental. He has a tendency to say cruel things he doesn t necessarily mean
to get a rise out of people. He often acts out in a negative way to try and impress people. Crude and
vulgar language seems to be his favorite way of trying to impress others, especially if it offends them.

Role Of Financial Market Authority On Corporate Business...
ROLE OF FINANCIAL MARKET AUTHORITY(FMA)
In this essay my aim is to discuss and compliment the various roles of financial market authority in
corporate business world. My research will depict that Financial market authority (FMA) has been
emerged as a financial regulatory authority which regulates and controls the capital market and the
financial services in New Zealand very effectively and efficiently. And it works on the financial risk
bearing factors and majorly contributes towards developing trustworthy, clear and well regulated
financials markets by executing various roles. In order to address the ever existing issues of divided
regulatory body, the ultimate aim of creation of FMA by the Government of New Zealand was to
replace security commission.
Further the Primary objective of creating new single operator was to unify the market administration
activities as the security commission faced many criticisms and faltered on the main function of
regulating the market in order to give stability to the financial sector and thus resulted in ceasing of
security commission. In 2011, when the financial markets authority act 2011 (FMC ACT) has been
sanctioned and came into action on 1 may 2011, certain changes were made and one of the most
important changes by this enactment is the introduction of new reinforced regulatory body. The FMA
was designated under the crown entity act 2004, with supreme powers to monitor and control the
financial markets by revoking the authorities of

to reduce this Delta and deliver the leads to the Advertisers with minimizing TACs. Traditionally, most

Advantages And Disadvantages And Methods Of Financial...
I am going to start my analysis with the first approach Full Revenue Recognition. The main point is to
discuss the advantages and some disadvantages of this approach for an entity. The only thing I would
like to pinpoint in advance is the fact that the majority of advantages of one approach can be
considered as disadvantages of another approach and vice versa. This point is specifically related to
full revenue recognition and deferral of revenue approaches. Statement of Financial Accounting
Concepts no 5 outlines specific criteria for revenue recognition. In my opinion, the criteria itself can
be considered as an advantage of this approach. The first criteria is that recognition of revenue takes
place only after it is both realized and earned. The logic is pretty much clear and reasonable for me. In
addition to this, revenue recognition takes place when the entity satisfies its performance obligations,
entitling it to associated benefits. This makes sense once again, because it is common for the entities
to consider the completeness of earning process at the point of sale. Now me move to more general
advantages. In my opinion, another advantage of this approach is that it achieves accuracy by
eliminating almost all uncertainties (cash received upfront) and risks (no cancellation policy)
associated with revenue recognition. Also, it is possible to predict and analyze the significance of
future expected costs. Future costs will be kept low and there will be no deductibles either. This ...

Hiroshima The stories and events that unfold in John Hersey s, Hiroshima, have certainly been eye
openers for me. As a child in middle school and high school I, we have all heard of the atomic bomb
and of course of Hiroshima, but never in as much detail or on such a personal level as these stories.
Not even in chemistry or physics class, where I learned some of the specifics as to how the bomb
works, had I known of the destructive force of the bomb or it s gruesome effects on human beings. As
I mentioned before, this book was quite an eye opener for me because it has taught me just how

The first story of the book we hear is that of the Reverend Tanimoto. He is dropping off some goods at
a friend s house for safekeeping some 3,500 yards, or two miles, away from the center of the
explosion and that house crumbles to the ground from the force of the blast. That seems so amazing to
me because in such a huge city, most of the time, you cannot even see two miles away. It may be
difficult for most people to appreciate the force of a bomb that can destroy something two miles away,
but most airplane bombs only destroy things within about 100 yards. That would be everything within
a football field completely wiped out, now imagine something that could level everything within 35
football fields!
The book also accounts just how much pressure the bomb exerted and how hot the bomb blast was
according to scientists of the time. These were two other awesome statistics. The pressure of the blast
was estimated to be somewhere between 5.3 to 8 tons per square yard. A yard is slightly larger than a
person s arm and most people cannot lift more than a hundred pounds on one arm. Imagine having
over 10,000 pounds, or five tons, of pressure being exerted on your arms? It s almost unbelievable.

Anne Bradstreet And Puritan Writing Style
Faith has played an incredibly large role throughout all of American history. This is shown especially
in early America when the Puritans settled in North America. Writing in this time period shows just
how prominent faith is in this time period, as much of it directly alludes to the Bible. Throughout the
time period writing and beliefs evolved. This is highly noticeable when comparing American poet
Anne Bradstreet, and clergyman Jonathan Edwards. Bradstreet s works include poems such as To My
Dear and Loving Husband , and Upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 and while Edwards
wrote many sermons, the most famous is Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God . These works differ
in many ways, but many comparisons and contrasts can be made in regards to writing style and beliefs
presented in these works.
The first major difference between these two writers is the major difference in their writing styles.
Though both are undoubtedly Puritan in style they hold many differences in how they write, and what
they write about. Anne Bradstreet s writing is seen as rather basic in it s composition and rhyme
scheme. The writing is in stanzas, much like other poetry, and the rhyme is a very basic AA B B
scheme, in To My Dear and Loving Husband she writes, If ever two were one, then surely we./If ever
man loved her wife, then thee; ( lines 1 2) these opening lines illustrate the simplicity in her writing.
Contrast this to the opening lines of Sinners in the Hands of an

Andrew Luth What Is Orthodox Theology Analysis
Andrew Louth in his article What is theology? , warns that there is a danger of setting theology down
alongside all other academic studies and assuming that theologia is one of them. The difference being
the very purpose of the study. Yet within this specific discipline, namely theology, it entails a
dimension beyond the disciplines of all other human learning, that academes must bear witness to. To
consider theology as simply the study of God in scholastic terms, will almost 1 inevitably lead into all
sorts of possible misuse of a theologian s apparent theophany. These

If we seek to understand it, we will only understand in part. But there is something to understand
nonetheless, and such understanding is what we might well call theology.21
In the Orthodox Church and tradition, theology has a very different meaning from the one we give it
today. It is a gift from God, a fruit of the purity of the Christian s spiritual life. Theology is identified
with the vision of God, with the immediate vision of the personal God, with the personal experience of
the transfiguration of creation by uncreated grace. Theology is not a theory of the world, a
metaphysical system ... not an intellectual discipline but an experiential participation, a communion.

Extremophiles Research Paper
Extremophiles R. pachyptila By Richard Wilmer
Extremophiles are organisms that are adapted to not only withstand but thrive in extreme conditions.
R. pachyptila or giant tube worm is a barophile found on the Pacific Ocean floor able to withstand
extremely high pressures. It can grow up to 2.4 metres and inhabits environments with a temperature
range of 2 to 30 degrees Celsius. It is one of many organisms that reside near hydrothermal vents,
specifically black smokers that produce high levels of hydrogen sulphide.
R. pachyptila inhabits the aphotic zone up to several miles below the surface where sunlight is non

predators draw near. Additionally, the lack of many predators due to the extreme conditions often

that we, as individuals, face. Our principles then determine what we deem important or non important

I found my results to fall smack dab in the liberal area. After taking time and really relating my values
tom my answers throughout the quiz, I do agree with this classification. I believe the survey itself
classified me as a Liberal due to the values I share with other Liberals. The most significant one being
equality. Believing in government action to achieve equal opportunity and equality for all. This being
one of my values followed by freedom, respect for the individual, and loyalty. Even if I feel like my
needs are being met, I want the same for others as well. Liberals are also seen as those who see the

The opposition side argues that gay marriage is against the biblical teachings and that it may lead to

Human Geography
I would define human geography as the study of how different factors such as culture, lifestyle,
geography, and environment dictate where humans live and migrate. I believe that it is the story of
different people s movement and activity explained through geography, culture, and other similar
stimuli. In How the States Got Their Shapes Stein explains how different conflicts, landscapes,
customs, and beliefs influenced the creation of each state. For example, the formation of Kansas
boarders look simple, but they were not easy to form. In 1854, the Kansas Nebraska Act allowed for
popular soverighty. This allowed the people of each state to decide on the issue of slavery. Kansas was
divided, and a civil war broke out. Borders were pushed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The acquisition of Texas borders were greatly influenced by the Americans who settled there before its
statehood, the Texas Revolution, and the Mexican American War. Many Americans who settled there
before 1836 felt that Texas should be an independent nation. The Republic of Texas gained its
independence from Mexico in 1836, but soon after the United States of America wanted to annex
Texas. In 1845, the Republic of Texas officially became a state. After its admission as a state, it was
declared a slave state, which greatly impacted the culture of Texas. Its western border followed the
Rio Grande River, and its eastern border followed the Red River. Its southern border followed the
coastline. Its western border was finalized after the Mexican American War when the Treaty of
Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed. It stated that the Rio Grande would be Texas western border. This
state shows how geography and size of influences different varieties of people to settle in it. For
example, the fertile and vast land attracted many people who liked the idea of Manifest Destiny. By
looking at Texas changing land, you can determine why some people moved to urban or rural areas or
agricultural or industrial lifestyles. The human geography of Texas allows questions of evolving

Methanol Plant In Tacoma
Would you be up for having the largest methanol plant in the world next to your city? Most people
wouldn t. This would be a bigger con than pro for Tacoma. It would cause environmental issues, and
can be dangerous. One reason this would be a bad idea is because it would cause a lot of pollution,
and more than Tacoma already has. Another reason this would be bad idea is because if something
goes wrong, it can cause a lot of problems and can potentially be dangerous. This is why a methanol
plant in Tacoma, WA would be a bad idea. First of all, one reason building a methanol plant in Tacoma

One detail that supports the claim is in the text The News Tribune , Unknown amounts of airborne
irritants, volatile, organic compounds, and carbon will be released into the air. This detail supports the
claim because Tacoma already has pollution, and if we keep adding it, it will only get worse. It also
supports this because the more we add, the more Tacoma will start to smell bad. Another detail that
supports the claim is in the text, NW Innovation Works , While taxpayers have paid tens of millions of
dollars to remediate the former smelter site, it remains polluted to this day. This detail supports my
answer because this proves that it i already polluted, and they cannot fix it now, so we keep adding to
it, it will become way worse and will become unfixable. The last detail that supports the claim is in the
text The Seattle Times , So, even though the Tacoma and Kalama projects would increase Washington

Comparison of Four Poems about Loss Essay
Comparison of Four Poems about Loss
I am comparing On my first Sonne by Ben Jonson (a pre 1914 piece of poetry, written in 1616), My
Last Duchess by Robert Browning (a pre 1914 piece of poetry, written in 1845), Mid Term Break by
Seamus
Heaney (a piece of poetry from the Heaney bank) and Cold Knap Lake by Gillian Clarke (a piece of
poetry from the Clarke bank).
The poem, On my first Sonne is about the loss of a close family member, Ben Jonson s first son, who
died at the age of seven. The poem is about the poet coming to terms with the truth, that his first son
had died and he would never see him again. In the poem, the poet goes through different stages of
grief and he is very emotional about his loss. The poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem is of cold emotion; the only emotion is anger at her behaviour.
Another poem about loss, Mid Term Break , confronts the death of
Seamus Heaney s younger brother, probably from an accident. Like the previous two poems, Mid
Term Break concerns the loss of a close family member. The overall view of death in this poem is
quite a dramatic one, with the description of contrasting emotions of different people.
At the beginning it is unemotional. Then the poet describes the emotions and behaviour of others
(father, family, friends, the baby, and mother). Finally, the next morning, he goes into his brother s
room to see his body. There is a sense of peace in the room,
Snowdrops And candles soothed the bedside, and he sees his brother looking pale and lying in his
small coffin. At the end of the poem,
Heaney appears to accept that his brother is dead and there is an air of calm.
In contrast to the other three poems discussed previously, the poem, Cold
Knap Lake describes the near loss of a stranger who would have drowned to death if it was not for
Gillian Clarke s mother doing resuscitation on an unknown child. Gillian Clarke remembers her
mother giving the girl the kiss of life which ultimately saved her. my mother gave a stranger s child
her breath. In her memory of the incident, Clarke s father took her (the child) home to a poor

Benefits Of A New Electric Model For The Chinese Car Buyers
To increase sales, and help realize Winterkorn s vision, VW invested 18.2 billion euros in building
larger manufacturing facilities to satisfy the demand (Appendix D). Additionally, VW decided to
manufacture new electric models to cater for the Chinese car buyers. Both initiatives worked fine,
until the Chinese economic downturn hit, and VW sales started slowly dwindling in China. C. For the
US Market: Along with China, the US market is considered among the largest auto markets in the
world. Just in 2015, around 7.7 million cars were sold, and 4.35 were locally produced. VW board
enlisted the company on a mission to increase its US units sold to 1 million by 2018 from very modest
sales (324,000 vehicles sold) in 2007. The numbers improved in 2012 reaching 438,145 Vehicles,
slipped back down to 366,970 by 2014, and recovered well up until September 2015. To cater for the
US auto market trends, VW invested 1 Billion dollars in an assembling plant in Tennessee to design
new sedans. The company also decided to bring its successful and European designed, BlueTDI Clean
Diesel car to the US market. III. International Growth Strategy Implications The above international
strategic moves, required VW to serve different market segments which have different regulatory
compliances, entry barriers and market trends. It also meant that VW needs to compete strongly
against GM in China, ensure that the European market downturn doesn t slow its growth, and heavily

The history of Philip Morris and the Marlboro
The history of what is now a global company can be traced back to Philip Morris s 1847 opening of a
single shop on London s Bond Street, selling tobacco and ready made cigarettes.
On Mr Morris s death, the business was taken over by his wife Margaret and his brother Leopold. In

The Pros And Cons Of Mothers Against Drunk Driving
On February 3, 2017, Tim Piazza, a sophomore here at Penn State, tragically lost his life at the Beta
Theta Pi fraternity house. This horrific event was a result of irresponsible consumption of alcohol and
binge drinking. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. Around the nation, countless young adults have
lost their life due to the thoughtless consumption of alcohol. Unfortunately, the common census
between the majority of the average day Americans is that the most effective way to make drinking
safer for young adults is enforcing a minimum drinking age of twenty one. This law, as well as the
common census, are a direct result from the efforts of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) more
than thirty years ago ( Drinking Culture ). MADD s objective and goal is quite understandable; they
want the young adults of today s world to be safe and not put themselves into dangerous situations
with alcohol, but they doing more harm than good. ( The Problem ). Safety is the single objective from
each side in this argument, but MADD s flawed logic and ignorance to reality has formed a belief that
results in an unsafe drinking culture, resulting in more deaths, such as the tragic passing of Tim
Piazza, unless the drinking age is lowered to eighteen, as well as establishing an open dialogue about
drinking itself. Mothers Against Drunk Driving aims to create the safest possible environment for a
young adults to develop, but their argument contains a sense of ignorance to the reality

Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis or RA is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system mistakenly attacks
its own body tissues. This disease affects the lining of joints causing pain and swelling. Eventually the

Christian Faith Reflection Paper
January 27th, 2015. This is the day that would change my perspective of the Christian faith forever.
Let me take you back to the day before. It was a long day and I had just completed yet another day at
the prestigious Saint Thomas Academy. Later that evening I had planned to attend tutoring, lift and
head home for a prolonged night of study, but this was not the case. As the final bell rang, I became
drowsy, nauseous and extremely light headed, and I did what any other cadet would do: take a trip to
the nurse s office. It was here where I fell asleep for a little under an hour, and the nurse contacted my
mother and I made it home safely. My mom then took my temperature, provided me with aspirin, and
sent me to bed. Now, to completely understand the story, I need to describe my family. On my mom s
side of the family, we were and are still very close to each other. My cousins and I take tremendous
pride and passion in caring for, and spending time with our grandparents. We were especially fond of
our great grandfather, Robert Glockner. He was a WWII veteran, and had German blood, making all
conversations interesting! We spent extended amounts of time with him, especially during his later
years, but it was I who had the opportunity to build a extravagant relationship with him. We spent
countless hours together, him in a comfy bed, and me seated right beside him in an arm chair. He
would relive stories from his time in the Navy, and the times when we were young. Though,

Initial Public Offerings Introduction And Three Ipos Essay
Initial Public Offerings Introduction and Three IPOs
IPO stands for initial public offer; it is offered by a new publicly listed company of share, and occurs
when a company goes from being privately held to publicly owned with shares trading on stock
market. IPO could fund for new companies. It s a cheaper way to raise funds than issuing bonds and
borrowing from banks, but required funding will not be raised when people don t buy its share (Viney
2015). Although Australian IPO is not as stable as in China, always increasing in the first a few days,
it still attracts many investors.
A company has to meet ASX listing requirements in order to be listed. ASX requires a company s
minimum investment value, current annual profit, required documents and many other factors (ASX
2016). Some people suggest the strict rule limits young companies to grow and be listed, but it reduces
some risk for investors and stock market.
A company has satisfied ASX listing rule may step to listing process. The whole process may take 5
months. Basically, company will find an advisor, a stockbroker or investment bank. The bank will
recommend the timing and pricing of share, and help to prepare a prospectus. The prospectus is a
critical component of the listing process, with detail of past and forecast performances of the
company. Secondly, the company should lodge the prospector with ASIC, and during a seven day

The first instance is in Book One. The reason that Satan gathered up fellow angels to start a war is
because he was jealous of the Son. Similarly to actual religious texts, John Milton makes it very plain
in the novel that God and the Son are two separate entities. The Son or as some call him, Jesus was
somewhat of the vessel to save humanity. The Son was more of God s right hand or like the golden kid
. Satan was envious and did not think that it was fair, so he tried to fight. Despite what most would
say, I actually feel like this jealousy makes Satan out to be more of a hero as opposed to a villain. In
order to be jealous if someone, one would have to care about said person. One have to have some kind
of fear or anxiety about losing said person. So, I feel that Satan was concerned that he would lose his
favorable position with God. Satan was ultimately jealous of the Sons position and felt that he was

Taking a Look at Ski Jumping
The 2014 Olympics held a wide range of competitions for athletes. One of the events, ski jumping,
was part of the Olympics since the first games in 1924. Ski jumping was born in 1860 when
Norwegian Sondre Norheim, built the first measured jump and flew 30 metres. That record held for
more than three decades. Ski jumping is a sport where skiers go down a ramp, jump, attempt to fly as
far as possible, and land safely. Judges give points to skiers for proper technique and style, but those
points do not add much to the total as the distance contributes to the majority of the scoring. Over the
last 100 years, ski jumping has changed enormously due to the new technology made available. The
modern sport involves a extreme amount of practice, patience and confidence. The sport is very
popular, but also very dangerous. Factors like wind can severely effect a skiers score.
The top of the hill is the start. There is a bar at the top that the jumper sits on while they are waiting
and getting ready. Once ready, the ski jumper will lean forward and will naturally start accelerating
down the pre made path on the platform. The in run usually has an angle of 38o to 36o, which then
turns into the jump at the end of the run. The end of the run usually has an angle between 7o and 12o
downhill. The ground after the jump is precisely made so the jumper is never over 6 meters over the
ground. This measure is in place so if the jumper loses balance, they will not fall very far before

The Importance Of Youth Literacy Rates In Pakistan
ā— Youth Literacy Rates in Pakistan
Literacy rates are important beyond the obvious reasons of having an educated society, as for some
developing countries, the youth may represent the largest segment of the population, which predicts
the future capacity of a nation. For literacy rates to improve, government expenditure on education is a
key indicator for the youth to have accessible education at little to no costs, gain employment
opportunities and be part of the political process of their country (Unicef, 2016). Given the importance
of literacy among children and adults, there is no doubt why it s recognized as a right for all and
contributes not only to modernizing societies but improving economic growth. The most common
understanding of literacy is understood in terms of having a set of discrete skills such as reading,
writing, and skill based training (Midgley, Davies, Oliver, Danaher, 2014, p. 127). Pervez Musharaf s
nine year rule remained of the longest in the history of Pakistan, but which also brought many changes
in the capacity socio economic indicators for the country. To consolidate his power and become more
elusive after overthrowing an elected government in 1999, he put social policies and structural reforms
at the top of his priorities, which led to the economy growing (Khan, Amjad, Din, 2005, p. 456). In

usually consists of. Not to mention the heat trying to strangle me as I wake up gasping for breath

My bed finally kicks me out and my blanket strips its warmness away; now I have no choice but to get

Global Warming Warning
In 2007, the Arctic reached a 30 year low for sea ice (University of Colorado at Boulder). This is
because of global warming or what scientists refer to climate change. The issue with global warming
is that it has impactions for damage to future generations. Prevention of a global climate change
depends on early detection of human made effects on climate. The current views on global warming
are; those who do not think that the Earth is undergoing a climate change, others that believe the Earth

Using that methodology the air trapped in the ice can be tested to determine atmospheric gases in the
past. The speed in which temperature has increased over the last few decades is alarming compared to
the rate over the last century. Global surface temperature has increased 0.6 degrees Celsius in the past
thirty years, and 0.8 in the last century (Hansen 14288). The significant increase can be directly
related to the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. For the last 650,000 years, atmospheric
CO2 has never been above 300 parts per million (Hansen 14288). In 1950 CO2 parts per million were
at 280, today they are at 380. Direct observations indicate that CO2 is rising sharply due to human
activity (Cook). The main source of CO2 emissions is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and
gas in power plants, automobiles, and industrial facilities (United States Environmental Protection
Agency). It is most evident in the addition of automobiles on the road today. Motor vehicles have been
rising by 3.69 million each year since 1960. Currently there are over 255 million registered passenger
vehicles on the road today (U.S Department Of Transportation).
It is difficult to get people concerned about global warming because it is a problem of the future.

The person: Little is known of the prophet Haggai. The name Haggai means feast of Yahweh or by
contraction, Hagariah means Yahweh hath girded. This leads scholars to believe that he was born on a
feast day. Another theory is that the writer of the book recorded Haggai s prophecies later, and like
Malachi, gave him a nickname because he prophesied on feast days. He prophesied for a very short
time. Haggai 1:15 record the dates of Haggai s prophetic ministry. He prophesied in the Second year
of King Darius (521 486), in the year 520 from August 29th to December 18th. These 15 short weeks
make up one of the smallest prophetic ministries in the prophetic books. We also know Haggai existed

The Role Of Liberal Values At The International Level
4. By using its influence to diminish the role of liberal values at the international level
As China is becoming a global power today, China s views on liberal values are gaining a greater
share in the global marketplace of ideas negatively affects America s national interests, since its
growing power and the example of its development could have considerable ideological influence
upon other countries.
China s economic rising power has deflected international criticism of its records of democratization
and human rights. Human rights issues have indeed been given less importance during high level
official visits. Today, the U.S. president seldom directly demands the release of Chinese political and
religious dissidents. Under such circumstance, the United States and China are competing directly for
impact upon shaping the international rules and norms. China has been highly supporting recent
initiatives such as the G20, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the New Development Bank of
the BRICS countries, and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, in which Western
governments play a significantly smaller role than in longer existing institutions, such as WTO,
NATO, etc.
In addition to that, as I have argued before, although China does not fight against liberal democracy
with a counter ideology, it does approach the potential norm of promoting liberal democratic values
with the norm of international diversity.
The concept of international diversity is that

both use splendid word choice to keep their readers hooked. Clearly, these passages words are stuck in
the audience s brains; they can t get out because the author s put such an impact on it. Therefore, the
sentences with those depictive words will be remembered and soon after the story will, too. In life,
specific words one uses are critical. Just like when a child is presenting a project in front of their class,
they have to have enthusiasm and non boring words. If the child is just blabbing on with useless words
no one will listen. But if there is use of exceptional word choice people will definitely look up from
that Mario Kart Race

Difference Between Polyface And Industrial Model Of Food...
Key differences between the operating system of Polyface and the industrial model of food production
1. Polyface model Integrated strategy: Polyface is a small scale, community oriented farming. It was
envisioned to be an environmentally sustainable farm, effectively utilizing the resources inherent in
the land, and mimicking the natural ecosystem. The activities of the farm animals complimented each
other and contributed to the overall effectiveness and productivity of the farm s system. The waste
produced was ultimately returned back to the land. For example Polyface utilized excreta and
composted internal organs of the farm animals for use as natural fertilizer for the grass. It believed in
nature s biodiversity system and maintained its animal ratio accordingly to suit that system. For
example the hen to cow ratio was 16:1 which effectively helped process the cow manure. Polyface
focused on organic farming, selling the bulk of their products locally. Compared to the industrial
model, Polyface produced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example Polyface produced variety of products: beef, pork, chicken, turkey, rabbit, eggs,
vegetables etc. the infrastructure cost was $0.50 per $1 of sales compared to $4 per $1 of sales for
other farms. This was because it was used for various purposes for different species throughout the
year. Polyface has been able to leverage the operational synergies between its various inter dependant
processes and it has also utilized the waste it produces to further its operational efficiency. The main
difficult aspect in such a case is to manage the inter dependencies between the processes as a problem
in one process will affect the other. Since the proportional output level is determined by the process
synergies. In case of any expansion the challenge is to ensure that the operational synergies are not

The Strong Themes And Views Of Heavy Metal Music
The strong themes and views in heavy metal music, including but not limited to environmental,
religious and political views have over decades, created a community and culture among listeners and
musicians alike. Because of common ideas among artists, some of which could be seen as
transgressive, all creativity within the culture is respected and praised no matter what sort of
background it has come from. Visual art is a huge part of heavy metal as there are so many different
subgenres of the music that a unique album cover or poster will help listeners instantly recognize a
band or even genre. Three modern heavy metal bands, Gojira, Mastodon and Baroness will be
explored to show how visual artists interpret this type of music in their practices. Various other bands
and subgenres will also be mentioned, describing visual aspects of certain styles of heavy metal.
Heavy metal originated in the early 1970 s, with bands mainly coming from the UK and USA, who
emerged from rock, and rock and roll music from the previous two decades, but also took influence
from various types of blues and psychedelic rock music. To this day there are still debates on which
band was this first ever to be known to play heavy metal. Fans from the UK will say Black Sabbath
were the original heavy metal band, emerging from the working class of Birmingham, whereas USA
fans favour Led Zeppelin coming from the hippie movement of the 60 s. No matter who came first,

The West Memphis Three Analysis
Mackenzie Milner Ms. Whitford ENGL 101 29 November 2016 The West Memphis Three There are
many movies we can watch and not give a second thought about, except when we see those few little
words based on a true story. There is something about these movies that put a deeper chill in our
bones. The movie Devil s Knot may be based on a true story, but viewers are not fascinated about the
mystery of the crime and neither are the countless documentarians on the case. Viewers are interested
and overwhelmed by the injustice done to the young teenagers, practically children themselves, who
were made scapegoats by their own community because they were simply different. In 1993 three
young boys, Michael Moore, Stevie Branch, and Chris Byers, set ... Show more content on

The West Memphis Three immediately popped into my head. I had watched a moved based this

not only because of the children being murdered but also because of the wrongful convictions of three
innocent teenagers. I knew then that this was going to be the topic for me to write

Individualism In Dead Poets Society, And Dead Poet Society
Transcendentalists in the 1830s challenged society s normality. They broke stereotypes and began not
depending their actions according to others. Director Peter Weir and Author Ralph Waldo Emerson
wrote about transcendentalist s ideals of education to rebel against commonly accepted behavior.
Transecdiliasts assured and trusted themselves that the outcome is for the better. Similarly, in the film,
Dead Poets Society, Mr. John Keating teaches an English class navigating the class through the
uncertainties of life. The boys in Keating s class, discover themselves and begin to live life focusing
on their passions. Self Reliance, is an essay about expressing your individualism and overcoming the
social expectations in life. Together they both share the fundamental virtues that to a live successful
life with no regrets, one must trust their self identity and carpe diem. For one to live a life with no
regrets they must fully embrace themselves self in trusting oneself allows one to them fully accept
who they are and express it. In the film, Dead Poets society, people can see Mr. Keating s unquie type
of teaching style. Neil Perry, one of the brightest students at Welton Academy, obtains a new type of
perspective from this unusual English class and decides to try out for the school performance. He gets
the lead however; but his father does not approve, and forbids Neil from acting in A Midsummer
Night s Dream. Neil finds himself conflicted and talks to Mr. Keating. (Dead

valid simple contract includes 3 elements: agreement, which include an offer and acceptance to hat
offer, valid consideration and intention to create legal relation. In this case Tony and Emma are two

Emma took no response, if she made a valid acceptance to the offer, there would be a valid
acceptance. Consideration is necessary in simple contract, executory and executed consideration is
accepted by law. Executory is consist of a promise to do something, and executed consideration takes
the form of performing an act. Past consideration, consideration per dates the promise, is not accepted
by law. In this case, Emma want to buy a television from Tony. The consideration is a promise to pay a
certain amount of money in return of the television or a promise of offer the television in return of a
certain amount of money paid. The consideration took the form of the exchange of promise. It is an
executory consideration, which is valid in law. Parties must have intention to create legal relation to
create a legal contract. When the agreement is made between business partners, it is presumed that the
parties are intent to create legal relations. When an agreement is made between family members or
social friends, it is presumed as no intention to create legal relations. Both presumptions could be

Hamlet Human Nature Research Paper
Art is, first and foremost, an imitation of life. Human beings create art, be it visual, literary, or
performance, in order to reflect to ends and odds of the day to day; to express the common emotions
of humanity in the hopes of garnering some further substance out of life s mundanely.
With this as a broad goal, artistic works tend to revolve around the theme of human nature; revealing,
exposing, and otherwise illustrating the human condition. William Shakespeare s Hamlet is no
different in this regard. The primary subject within Hamlet is the nature of the human being,
specifically the difference between humans and animals of a lower consciousness. To fully understand
this difference and link human nature with literary meaning , we ... Show more content on

Protagonists within art and literature serve as mediums on which audiences can project themselves
onto. This process turns protagonists into heroes , and allows audiences to feel the courageousness,
decisiveness, and selflessness that would be indicative to a hero . However, the character Hamlet,
despite being the protagonist of the work Hamlet, does not exude any of these aforementioned traits.
Hamlet is cowardly, indecisive, and self interested, an overall morally suspect. Hamlet himself
acknowledges his possession of these flaws. Within the first act of the play, Hamlet learns of his father
s murder at the hands of Hamlet s uncle Claudius. The murder of Hamlet s father and the marriage of
his mother, Gertrude, to Claudius are devastating turn of events; However, Hamlet s reaction to these
events comes off as cold and overly dramatized. Hamlet continuously complains that he is unable to
commit suicide because God fix d his canon gainst self slaughter (1.2.135) , further perpetrating his
own cowardice through his inability to take his own life. Archetypal heroes are by definition are
brave, upstanding, and selfless; yet Hamlet is made more appealing by his lacking of those

Interracial Marriages And Its Effect On Society
Interracial Marriages (relationships) have existed for years, though society traditionally has had
difficulty accepting these unions. Over the years, attitudes toward interracial relationships have
changed dramatically and will likely continue to change as our society becomes increasingly diverse.
An interracial marriage is generally defined as the union between two individuals who come from
different racial/ethnic backgrounds, such as and African American women and a white American male.
Interracial has been difficult to define. Society has had difficulties accepting interracial relationships.
Don t let opinions get in the way of love. Slaves at this time were legally permitted to marry, though
many enslaved people entered into extralegal marriages that were recognized in their own
communities. Most states prohibited interracial marriages. These prohibitions, which were known as
antimiscegenation laws (a term that originated In the 1860s), gained strengths. These laws applied
only to marriages between African American and whites. Racial prejudices also affected the
government s use of marriage as a way to confer citizenship. In 1855 Congress passed a law granting
citizenship to foreign women who married American men (Edwards). From colonial times until the
1960s, antimiscegenation laws declaring race mixing and intermarriage illegal were common in most
state laws. These laws were intended to protect whiteness and thus were not generally enforced for
marriages

Trends In Pop Culture
Pop Culture can easily be defined as the different styles and trends that have gained popularity
through different centuries. The unique styles that have risen in society, have had an abundant effect
on the way many people dress and act. Some influential figures that are the first ones to start a spark to
light a rise in a trend, are most likely popular or famous people that appear on magazine covers or TV.
But not only do famous people influence different trends, the past years of unique culture place a
different meaning on the next decades rising trend. The styles and trends you see today, have all
evolved from some of the first people to set foot on America. When early settlers arrived from
England, their style of clothing was simple and was mostly made out of wool or linen. Women always
wore long skirts and dresses that kept themselves preserved. Men on the other hand, usually wore a
linen button down shirt, saggy pants, and stockings. The earliest styles are very different then what
you see in society today, women were more preserved and men kept their cloths simple and basic.
Contrasting with early American clothing styles, the 1900s was full of unique styles and trends that
developed for men and women. In the early 1900s women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A big idea of this, is local dress codes and regulations. This can be a controversial topic for many
towns and cities, because as a new decade comes around, with it comes new styles and trends, and it
could interfere with prior dress code regulations. But not only does clothing interfere with policies, the
way people act does too. With different dance styles and music styles coming with the decades, it can
interfere with the laws that violate these kinds of actions. These two examples show how when a new
trend violates a law or policy, usually there are some modifications to the policies, to allow these

DNA In Crime Scene Investigation
Nowadays, DNA is a crucial component of a crime scene investigation, used to both to identify
perpetrators from crime scenes and to determine a suspect s guilt or innocence (Butler, 2005). The
method of constructing a distinctive fingerprint from an individual s DNA was first described by Alec
Jeffreys in 1985. He discovered regions of repetitions of nucleotides inherent in DNA strands that
differed from person to person (now known as variable number of tandem repeats, or VNTRs), and
developed a technique to adjust the length variation into a definitive identity marker (Butler, 2005).
Since then, DNA fingerprinting has been refined to be an indispensible source of evidence, expanded
into multiple methods befitting different types of DNA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each person inherits two copies of these markers from his or her mother and father, so a higher
similarity denotes a closer biological relationship. The probability of two samples matching is around
one in a billion (dna.gov). DNA profiles are compiled by using gel or capillary electrophoresis to
separate samples into a pattern distinctive of the subject s DNA based on ionic charge, size, or
mobility. Usually, samples in the database are searched at moderate stringency, which requires that all
alleles between the two samples match, but the number of alleles can vary, accounting for DNA
contamination or degradation. Partial, or candidate, matches are samples that have a similar number of
alleles in the forensic profile but are not exact, and are used in familial DNA searching to find close
biological relatives of the original forensic profile. Other evidence is used to determine relatives,
including Y chromosome analysis, which traces family relationships based on the fact that the Y
chromosome is transmitted directly between a father and his sons; age; and geographic location. The
process is based on the principle that first order relatives have closer DNA profiles than unrelated
individuals, and also on the sociological assumption that criminal tendencies appear in families;
according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics Correctional Populations

  • 2. Classical Conditioning Vs Observational Learning From an early age, it is drilled into our heads: Restlessness, distraction, and ignorance are the enemies of success. We re told that learning is all self discipline, that we must confine ourselves to designated study areas, turn off the music, and maintain a strict ritual if we want to ace that test, memorize that presentation, and create writing assignment. There are three major methods of learning. Which are classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning. Classical conditioning theory involves learning a new behavior via the process of association. In simple terms, two stimuli are linked together to produce a new learned response in a person or animal. There are three stages of classical conditioning stage 1: Before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This method is better in a way that by observing others, we can quickly gain knowledge about which behaviors are likely to lead to good outcomes. What I remember from my childhood is that everything I learned was by watching everyone else. For example every time my mom would want to teach me something knew she would demonstrate it to me. I learned a lot by seeing what others did. When my aunt started to cook I loved watching her cook to see how she made the food. Now that I became older I know how to cook by just watching my aunt cook when I was younger. I also learned how to ride the bike because my mom thought me how to ride it with demonstrations. I believe most of the people in this world learn by observing others. Is an easier way to learn and is not too complicated. Just like the saying monkey see, monkey do . When people see other people doing something they want to do it as well I believe is just a human instinct we have developed with time. Till this day I learn better with demonstrations r ... • 3. Contemporary Sociological Theory Final Exam Contemporary Sociological Theory Final Exam Section I, Question 1: In Shearing and Stenning s From the Panopticon to Disney World, the world renowned fantasy amusement park is revealed to be a compelling embodiment of Michel Foucault s ideas regarding the disciplinary society. In Foucault s writings on the prison panopticon his idea of a perfected disciplinary institution of a disciplinary society Foucault describes how inmates (or Disney s guests) behavior and movements is overseen and tightly controlled (Dillon, p. 371). This level of control is clear from the moment you enter Disney: barriers, guardrails, and directions guide you to preordained locations, and Disney employees and rides reinforce those restrictions and guidances at numerous points throughout your visit (Shearing, p. 301 302). More significantly, in the panopticon design, inmates are always under surveillance. Further, inmates are aware they are always under surveillance even if they cannot see their supervisor so that they begin monitoring their own actions to conform with rules and restrictions (Dillon, p. 371). At Disney, once a guest breaks the rules or regulations, they quickly become aware that they are being surveilled. Park employees in unassuming costumes seemingly unrelated to security or rule enforcement are trained to enforce rules and hold guests accountable as soon as they act out of line, making clear to guests that they are always being surveilled even if they cannot see the supervisors ... • 4. The Year That Changed Europe The Start Of World War I eBurkarte HIS 102 002 Seidman November 12, 2015 1914 was the year that changed Europe the start of World War I. Total was broke out between Germany, France, Britain, and Russia and it was the first total war in history. Many historians have takes on World War I, not that it was just a total war, but also because this time in Europe, it was a completely different kind of war that was being fought. In Understanding the Great War, World War I was a break from the history of warfare because of its violent style of fighting, its influence on women and children, and its propaganda. War of Europe s past were fought like any other wars with plans and logistics, but WWI was different because its main goal practiced by many fighting nations was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A completely different approach from battles in the past was that in World War I, civilians became a new target. When Germany would invade a country, the troops would attack civilians and even imprison them (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 45). These prisoners of war were then put into camps on German territory and because of the blockade against Germany created by Britain to lessen their resources; the prisoners were being deprived of food (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 62). German military would even use the prisoners in battles, turning them into human shields for protection (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 77). German troops even went to the extreme with attacking civilians by exiling them to face starvation, as German military did with the Armenians (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 64). The German military used genocide to ultimately fight against their opposing nations. Another way opposing sides would fight against one another was through the use of tanks and planes, a concept never used before because of technology. Bombs were then dropped onto enemy s territory, killing almost all innocent people (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 108). By using excessive violence, psychological damage that was irreversible was inflicted on a vast majority of soldiers, still inflicting harm even after the war ended (Audoin Rouzeau Becker 25). • 5. Eleanor of Aquitaine Essay Eleanor of Aquitaine Much has been written about the historical life of Eleanor of Aquitane. Her life, Undoubtedly reads like legend, at least in part because it is. It is fairly safe to say that the world had never seen a woman like Eleanor of Aquitane, and it is doubtful that there has been a woman since who could rival her power, intelligence, beauty and sheer force of will. Like many other women of her time Eleanor came from a long line of noble and royal blood. Her lineage can be traced back to the earliest kings of both England and France.(follow link to take a look at Eleanor s very long family tree http://www.my ged.com/db/page/scokin/12251) Her father William X was the son of France s first troubadour, William IX and ... She undoubtedly had an enormous amount of power, certainly more than any woman before her, and arguably more than any woman since. Eleanor had the courage to be exactly the person that she was, regardless of gender, however the question that remains is how she managed to do so. What was it about her life and her early upbringing that compelled her to become the woman she was? • 6. Chemical Reaction On Chemical Kinetics Olivia Isaacs C127 15 November 2014 Chemical Kinetics Objective: This experiment runs many reactions varying the concentrations of the reactants in order to determine the order for each component and the rate constant. Introduction: Chemical kinetics is the study of how fast a chemical reaction occurs and the factors that affect the speed of reaction.1 Reaction rates are the measure of how much the concentration of reactants change during a given reaction.1 The rate of change of the reactants, Rate = Ī” [X]/Ī”t, is related to the slope of the concentration vs. time graph.1 From observing reaction rates, the overall order of the reaction and the rate constant can be calculated by using the integrated rate laws. For a zero order reaction, the rate law can be written as [A]t = kt + [A]0, where [A]t is the concentration at a given time, k is the negative slope, t is the time, and [A]0 is the initial concentration.2 Using the same variables, a first order reaction can be written as ln[A]t = kt + ln[A]0 and a second order can be written as 1/[A]t = kt + 1/[A]0.2 On a graph, these concentrations are plotted vs. time, allowing the R2 value and equation of the line to be calculated. The R2 value is used in determining the order of the reaction. The closer the R2 value is to 1, the more likely that the graph displays the correct reaction order. The y=mx+b equation provides information about the slope and y intercept, essential when determining the order and rate constant. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Compare And Contrast The Pardoner And Wife Of Bath s Tale To eat or not to eat. In this battle of concocted tales, this is where it all boils down to. Both the Pardoner and the Wife of Bath have surely produced fine stories, each with their own charm; however, it will not be a battle without a clear winner only one can enjoy a free meal. Although the Wife of Bath s Tale tapped into a strong topic gender equality it only stated that women want to be equal to men as well, but never delved in deeper. The story even disregards the problem at hand: a knight who raped a girl and got away scot free, even finding himself a beautiful and loyal wife. If the story went differently, the Wife of Bath s Tale has all the components of a great story. Meanwhile, the Pardoner s Tale , although short, successfully showed the corruptness that humans have, as well as the consequences if ever one finds themselves stuck in greed s vice grip. Therefore, the Pardoner s tale is better than the Wife of Bath s Tale because it delves into the darkness of humanity, the consequences when one has dug themselves too deep and shows how, despite people knowing the result of their misconduct, will still choose to sink further into darkness. They were after an honourable cause at first, the three rioters, but as soon as their eyes saw the yellow shimmer inside a bulging bag, they dropped everything and easily surrendered their minds to greed. Many views have come up due to the advancement of the world collectively, some believe it has only benefited society has a whole while others say it has brought only destruction to the social and cultural aspects. Two professors at highly ranked universities discuss their views on Globalization and how it has influenced the world. Globalization has greatly impacted the world through its social relations through culture. Amartya Sen at Harvard University expresses his views on Globalization through the spread of intellectual ideas and how it takes one great idea to spread across the globe. Amartya Sen has a positive outtake on the developing nature on Globalization. He believes the rise in Globalization in the past years as brought a new standard of living through social correlations. In an example to prove Globalization has benefited the people he uses the history of mathematics, In his history of mathematics, Howard Eves explains that around 1150 A.D., Gherardo of Cremona, in his translations from the Arabic, rendered jaib as the Latin sinus, the corresponding word for a cove or a bay. (Sen 2012, 18). Math is one language that is the same in any country across the globe, Sen was referring to the concept sine and how it was created in India, but developed in other countries. • 12. Motivation And Introduction Of Handwriting Motivation and Introduction Handwriting has continued to persist as a means of communication and recording information in day to day life with the introduction of new technologies. Given its ubiquity in human transactions, machine recognition of handwriting has a practical significance in reading postal addresses on envelopes, in amounts in bank cheques, in handwritten fields in forms. Handwriting is a skill that is personal to individuals. Writing is considered to have made possible much of a culture and civilization. The reason that handwriting persists in the age of digital computer is the convenience of paper and pen as compared to keyboards. The printing press and type writers opened up the world to formatted documents. Computers and communication technologies such as word processors, fax machines, and emails are having an impact on literary and handwriting. Widespread acceptance of digital computers seemingly challenges the future of handwriting. However, in numerous situations, a pen together with a paper is much more convenient than a keyboard. Ultimately computer will have to process handwriting in an unconstrained environment, deal with many writing styles and languages, work with arbitrary user defined alphabets, and understand any handwritten message by any writer. Handwriting recognition is a pattern classification task which consists of detecting keywords in handwritten document images. Claire is the girly girl of the Breakfast Club group and doesn t like being pressured into discussing her private life with others. When she is made to feel like a prude she gets really upset. She is a good girl but doesn t really want people to know it. Being called out makes her angry and she doesn t like being opened with others because she is afraid they will judge her or make fun of her. • 14. Role Of Financial Market Authority On Corporate Business... ROLE OF FINANCIAL MARKET AUTHORITY(FMA) In this essay my aim is to discuss and compliment the various roles of financial market authority in corporate business world. My research will depict that Financial market authority (FMA) has been emerged as a financial regulatory authority which regulates and controls the capital market and the financial services in New Zealand very effectively and efficiently. And it works on the financial risk bearing factors and majorly contributes towards developing trustworthy, clear and well regulated financials markets by executing various roles. In order to address the ever existing issues of divided regulatory body, the ultimate aim of creation of FMA by the Government of New Zealand was to replace security commission. Further the Primary objective of creating new single operator was to unify the market administration activities as the security commission faced many criticisms and faltered on the main function of regulating the market in order to give stability to the financial sector and thus resulted in ceasing of security commission. In 2011, when the financial markets authority act 2011 (FMC ACT) has been sanctioned and came into action on 1 may 2011, certain changes were made and one of the most important changes by this enactment is the introduction of new reinforced regulatory body. We tracked this as the % of Advertiser accounts that are on target for lead delivery, Traffic Acquisition Costs (TACs) and Delta between # of actual leads delivered from the # of expected leads. My task was to figure out how to reduce this Delta and deliver the leads to the Advertisers with minimizing TACs. Traditionally, most SEM products focus on only Google SEM spend. To deliver on the KPIs, initially, I proposed the idea of procuring leads from several Ad Sources. YP has several sources of leads from both external sources like Google/Yahoo/Bing/Facebook and internal sources from our direct traffic on YP.com/m.YP.com/YP Mobile App. This decision based on the learnings from Advertiser focus groups that it doesn t matter to the Advertiser where the leads came from as long as the leads are delivered and are of good ... The main point is to discuss the advantages and some disadvantages of this approach for an entity. The only thing I would like to pinpoint in advance is the fact that the majority of advantages of one approach can be considered as disadvantages of another approach and vice versa. This point is specifically related to full revenue recognition and deferral of revenue approaches. Statement of Financial Accounting Concepts no 5 outlines specific criteria for revenue recognition. In my opinion, the criteria itself can be considered as an advantage of this approach. The first criteria is that recognition of revenue takes place only after it is both realized and earned. The logic is pretty much clear and reasonable for me. In addition to this, revenue recognition takes place when the entity satisfies its performance obligations, entitling it to associated benefits. This makes sense once again, because it is common for the entities to consider the completeness of earning process at the point of sale. Now me move to more general advantages. In my opinion, another advantage of this approach is that it achieves accuracy by eliminating almost all uncertainties (cash received upfront) and risks (no cancellation policy) associated with revenue recognition. Also, it is possible to predict and analyze the significance of future expected costs. Future costs will be kept low and there will be no deductibles either. This ... As a child in middle school and high school I, we have all heard of the atomic bomb and of course of Hiroshima, but never in as much detail or on such a personal level as these stories. Not even in chemistry or physics class, where I learned some of the specifics as to how the bomb works, had I known of the destructive force of the bomb or it s gruesome effects on human beings. He is dropping off some goods at a friend s house for safekeeping some 3,500 yards, or two miles, away from the center of the explosion and that house crumbles to the ground from the force of the blast. That seems so amazing to me because in such a huge city, most of the time, you cannot even see two miles away. It may be difficult for most people to appreciate the force of a bomb that can destroy something two miles away, but most airplane bombs only destroy things within about 100 yards. That would be everything within a football field completely wiped out, now imagine something that could level everything within 35 football fields! The book also accounts just how much pressure the bomb exerted and how hot the bomb blast was according to scientists of the time. These were two other awesome statistics. The pressure of the blast was estimated to be somewhere between 5.3 to 8 tons per square yard. A yard is slightly larger than a person s arm and most people cannot lift more than a hundred pounds on one arm. Imagine having over 10,000 pounds, or five tons, of pressure being exerted on your arms? It s almost unbelievable. The heat given off by the blast is just as astonishing a number as the pressure. • 18. Anne Bradstreet And Puritan Writing Style Faith has played an incredibly large role throughout all of American history. This is shown especially in early America when the Puritans settled in North America. Writing in this time period shows just how prominent faith is in this time period, as much of it directly alludes to the Bible. Throughout the time period writing and beliefs evolved. This is highly noticeable when comparing American poet Anne Bradstreet, and clergyman Jonathan Edwards. Bradstreet s works include poems such as To My Dear and Loving Husband , and Upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 and while Edwards wrote many sermons, the most famous is Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God . These works differ in many ways, but many comparisons and contrasts can be made in regards to writing style and beliefs presented in these works. The first major difference between these two writers is the major difference in their writing styles. Though both are undoubtedly Puritan in style they hold many differences in how they write, and what they write about. Anne Bradstreet s writing is seen as rather basic in it s composition and rhyme scheme. The writing is in stanzas, much like other poetry, and the rhyme is a very basic AA B B scheme, in To My Dear and Loving Husband she writes, If ever two were one, then surely we./If ever man loved her wife, then thee; ( lines 1 2) these opening lines illustrate the simplicity in her writing. Ski jumping was born in 1860 when Norwegian Sondre Norheim, built the first measured jump and flew 30 metres. That record held for more than three decades. Ski jumping is a sport where skiers go down a ramp, jump, attempt to fly as far as possible, and land safely. • 36. Global Warming Warning Essay examples Global Warming Warning In 2007, the Arctic reached a 30 year low for sea ice (University of Colorado at Boulder). This is because of global warming or what scientists refer to climate change. The issue with global warming is that it has impactions for damage to future generations. Prevention of a global climate change depends on early detection of human made effects on climate. The current views on global warming are; those who do not think that the Earth is undergoing a climate change, others that believe the Earth is going through a climate change due to humans, and some who believe that Earth is going through a climate change but is not because of human activities. Using that methodology the air trapped in the ice can be tested to determine atmospheric gases in the past. The speed in which temperature has increased over the last few decades is alarming compared to the rate over the last century. Global surface temperature has increased 0.6 degrees Celsius in the past thirty years, and 0.8 in the last century (Hansen 14288). The significant increase can be directly related to the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. For the last 650,000 years, atmospheric CO2 has never been above 300 parts per million (Hansen 14288). In 1950 CO2 parts per million were at 280, today they are at 380. Direct observations indicate that CO2 is rising sharply due to human activity (Cook). The main source of CO2 emissions is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas in power plants, automobiles, and industrial facilities (United States Environmental Protection Agency). It is most evident in the addition of automobiles on the road today. Motor vehicles have been rising by 3.69 million each year since 1960. Currently there are over 255 million registered passenger vehicles on the road today (U.S Department Of Transportation). It is difficult to get people concerned about global warming because it is a problem of the future. Still many Afro Americans of the late modern society discuss whether the discrimination has ceased, or is still alive and kicking. The man himself is covered in mystery and intrigue. Who is this prophet that comes on the scene and vanishes as fast as he appears? The context is in a time when the Israelites are back in the land YWHW promised, yet things feel much different. The temple is not yet in construction and the Judeans are having trouble with the indigenous Samaritans. Haggai has a challenge, but he is just the man for the job, and YWH has called him for just the time as this. Haggai The person: Little is known of the prophet Haggai. The name Haggai means feast of Yahweh or by contraction, Hagariah means Yahweh hath girded. This leads scholars to believe that he was born on a feast day. Another theory is that the writer of the book recorded Haggai s prophecies later, and like Malachi, gave him a nickname because he prophesied on feast days. He prophesied for a very short time. Haggai 1:15 record the dates of Haggai s prophetic ministry. He prophesied in the Second year of King Darius (521 486), in the year 520 from August 29th to December 18th. These 15 short weeks make up one of the smallest prophetic ministries in the prophetic books. We also know Haggai existed through other biblical and extra biblical sources. By using its influence to diminish the role of liberal values at the international level As China is becoming a global power today, China s views on liberal values are gaining a greater share in the global marketplace of ideas negatively affects America s national interests, since its growing power and the example of its development could have considerable ideological influence upon other countries. China s economic rising power has deflected international criticism of its records of democratization and human rights. Human rights issues have indeed been given less importance during high level official visits. Today, the U.S. president seldom directly demands the release of Chinese political and religious dissidents. Under such circumstance, the United States and China are competing directly for impact upon shaping the international rules and norms. China has been highly supporting recent initiatives such as the G20, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the New Development Bank of the BRICS countries, and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, in which Western governments play a significantly smaller role than in longer existing institutions, such as WTO, NATO, etc. In addition to that, as I have argued before, although China does not fight against liberal democracy with a counter ideology, it does approach the potential norm of promoting liberal democratic values with the norm of international diversity. Polyface model Integrated strategy: Polyface is a small scale, community oriented farming. It was envisioned to be an environmentally sustainable farm, effectively utilizing the resources inherent in the land, and mimicking the natural ecosystem. The activities of the farm animals complimented each other and contributed to the overall effectiveness and productivity of the farm s system. The waste produced was ultimately returned back to the land. For example Polyface utilized excreta and composted internal organs of the farm animals for use as natural fertilizer for the grass. It believed in nature s biodiversity system and maintained its animal ratio accordingly to suit that system. For example the hen to cow ratio was 16:1 which effectively helped process the cow manure. DNA In Crime Scene Investigation Nowadays, DNA is a crucial component of a crime scene investigation, used to both to identify perpetrators from crime scenes and to determine a suspect s guilt or innocence (Butler, 2005). The method of constructing a distinctive fingerprint from an individual s DNA was first described by Alec Jeffreys in 1985. He discovered regions of repetitions of nucleotides inherent in DNA strands that differed from person to person (now known as variable number of tandem repeats, or VNTRs), and developed a technique to adjust the length variation into a definitive identity marker (Butler, 2005). Each person inherits two copies of these markers from his or her mother and father, so a higher similarity denotes a closer biological relationship. The probability of two samples matching is around one in a billion (dna.gov). DNA profiles are compiled by using gel or capillary electrophoresis to separate samples into a pattern distinctive of the subject s DNA based on ionic charge, size, or mobility. Usually, samples in the database are searched at moderate stringency, which requires that all alleles between the two samples match, but the number of alleles can vary, accounting for DNA contamination or degradation. Partial, or candidate, matches are samples that have a similar number of alleles in the forensic profile but are not exact, and are used in familial DNA searching to find close biological relatives of the original forensic profile. Other evidence is used to determine relatives, including Y chromosome analysis, which traces family relationships based on the fact that the Y chromosome is transmitted directly between a father and his sons; age; and geographic location.
