The Major Components, Strengths, and Limitations of Urie...
Developmental psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner first introduced the Ecologicial Systems model in
the 1970 s. Bronfenbrenner argued that to understand human development, the environment in which
the person belongs must be understood (Bronfenbrenner, U.1979). The Ecological Systems model
concentrically depicts how a person s development is influenced by their wider environment. In the
original model there were four ecological levels in the system, however in 1979 Bronfenbrenner added
an additional fifth level (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). With the developing person in the centre, the five
progressive levels of environment include the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, marcosystem
and the chronosystem. The microsystem refers to the activities, social roles and interpersonal
relationships experienced by the individual in a face to face setting in their immediate environment.
Examples of a microsystem include a child interacting with school friends and family. The
mesosystem makes reference to the connections between the different aspects of the microsystem, for
example the links between family and the work environment as the work environment can affect the
family environment. The exosystem refers to the links between two or more settings with at least one
of the settings not directly influencing the person, for example, the workplace of a parent and the
home environment. The macrosystem is the overarching paradigms of the micro , meso and
exosystems. The macrosystem is the

Dexit Analysis
Situation Analysis
Marketing Analysis:
Dexit s objective was to launch a wireless payment system as the standard payment method for small
dollar amount retail transactions in the Canadian Market.
Company has strong investment financing behind it in the form of two large Canadian banking firms.
Fast 3 second transactions via RFID would create simple convenient transactions that could be tracked
easily by consumers.
Environment:
Big 6 Banks controlled the Canadian industry Current market via issuing Credit and Debit cards and
the corresponding retail processing systems.
Canadian shoppers were routine users of electronic payment methods
Customers were satisfied with the credit and debit payment methods and viewed ... Show more

All customers in the high volume geographic area mentioned
Particularly merchants who survive on high volume, low dollar amount transactions
All merchants in the Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver areas
Cash only businesses in the 3 high volume geographic areas previously mentioned
Pricing Strategy:
Charge the merchants for the hardware
Charge a transaction fee to the merchant
Charge a transaction fee to the consumer
Product Launch:
Canada
Justification and Implementation:
Dexit should target all merchants that accept Debit and Credit transactions in the geographic areas in
which electronic usage is most prevalent. The culture of using electronic payment is already
established in Canada and RFID will be more readily accepted in the areas where the most electronic
payments occur. In areas outside of the three metropolitan locations mention, Dexit should target
younger consumers who will be more willing to enroll and replenish the accounts via the internet. All
consumers who engage in high frequency low dollar amount transactions should be targeted as well
because the premise of the technology is ultimately to find a safer, faster alternative to

San Joaquin River Valley
The San Joaquin River Valley Project represents a comprehensive long term effort to restore the flow
of the San Joaquin River. After reading the article, River Plan Too Fishy for my Taste Buds by Bill
McEwen I chose and decided to use this article because it has plenty of reasonable facts. Bill McEwen
emerged as veteran journalist who has worked in various positions for the Bee since 1980. He grew up
in the community and knows how everything works. The article McEwen wrote operated and
published in the Fresno Bee in March 6, 2015 in a city surrounded by farms. Fresno offers big anti

The project has not yet fully achieve its goals, but it contains approved results for future
manufacturing. After the approval of the project they have prepared for it and since then they have had
a lot of successes. One of the successes appeared as the salmon experiment, 1,200 salmon got released
for the first time in the river and over 40% of these fish successfully migrated 150 miles downstream
of the river. The project will cost approximately 892 million dollars with an additional 188 million
dollars in levee improvements. The followers of this project believe that the money has continued well
spend but not necessarily true. The project continues in the process, but it has displayed working
characteristics for some of the salmon s migration to different parts of the river. The current drought
California suffers affected the project since it caused a delay. Farmers and near residents think the
project needs reevaluation to put priorities first. Since California expects El Nino projections appear to
affect the San Joaquin Project since we would get more water and easier to continue the project. After
reading multiple articles and gathering research my viewpoint of this plan does not change. I believe
California shouldn t waste the money they have to solve simple problems when they have bigger
problems to solve. Restoring the river affects

Government Interference in Soverign Affairs
Without peace keepers like your local police department, your city would be chaotic. Police officers

has interest in a country, whether they are allies or simply have the same ethnic or cultural origins,
they feel the need or right to support and defend that country against antagonists. Not many people

Based on these standards, the 3 current world powers are Russia, China, and the United States; the
United States being number 1 and Russia being third. These 3 countries widely affect everything. If
the U.S. market or China s import export kingdom crumbled, other countries could fall into serious
problems.
Throughout time, world powers have made their moves, and many others have followed. On October
4, 1957, Russia launched the Soviet R 7 intercontinental ballistic missile into space. This began the
space race. Many other countries started researching, and building satellites and shuttles for space
exploration, but the main competition was between the U.S. and Russia. Russia put many countries in
motion to start a space program. Based on this information, you may be thinking, Can these countries
can interfere and influence others just because they are more advanced? This is not always the case,
and sometimes interference is not even by a world power country. Any country s government can
interfere in conflict if they have the right legal footing.
If a government were to have a signed legal document from one hundred years ago that says they can
intervene in the in the signing country s affairs, they would have to respect it, unless new terms were
set. Some countries may have many reasons to obstruct in another country s

Autism Spectrum
The study and research pertaining to autism is very broad and includes more than just autism itself. A
child with an autistic disorder is hard to identify because autism is not easily seen. Autism is more of a
mental and social disorder; it doesn t really have anything to do with a physical outlook. The autism
disorder doesn t only deal with autism; there are five other primary disorders involved with autism.
When screening a child for autism, they will find out if any other disorders should be diagnosed.

Car Tuning
The modification of company manufactured vehicles, otherwise known as Car Tuning , has become
increasingly widespread over the past few years. It has developed from industry application into being
a popular hobby in which cars are modified by their owners in order to optimize performance,
handling and perhaps add a personal touch. This type of activity might be mistaken by many to be
reserved for racing junkies , but if we take a closer look, it actually proves to be quite beneficial in
terms of fuel consumption and safety. Superchargers or turbochargers are known to increase engine
efficiency and power, whereas advanced suspension and braking tend to drastically upgrade handling
and thus safety. A carefully designed exhaust system can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A spark plug ignites the mixture and the combustion takes place. In this phase, timing is crucial since
the spark must occur when the air/fuel mixture is compressed to the optimal point. Else, the
combustion will not work as effectively as it should. Once the combustion takes place, the piston is
pushed back down Now, the exhaust valves evacuate the product of the combustion and the engine is
ready for another cycle. Here, we notice the importance of the valves that must open at the correct
time to fill the combustion chamber and then to clear this chamber from the product of the
combustion. The timing of the valves is controlled by the Cam Shaft. This part of the engine decides
on the correct timing: thus filling the combustion chamber when needed and evacuating it when it is
full. Factory, or stock , cars are made for average driving conditions and driver expectations.
Sacrifices in performance, efficiency, and even handling are made for more comfort (Wikipedia). Car
tuning is not yet very popular among people especially here in Lebanon. While people may think that
car tuning is only for race junkies , the fact is that it actually improves the efficiency, performance,
handling, and power of the car. The personal motive behind car tuning is usually personalizing the car
to suit its owner s needs, driving style, and personality. Engine efficiency is a major issue in the car
industry. Instead of completely replacing an engine by a bigger and more powerful

The Role of Women in Things Fall Apart
Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart explores the struggle between old traditions within the Igbo
community as well as Christianity and the second coming it brings forth. While on the surface, it
appears the novel narrows its focus to a single character, Okonkno and his inner battles, one can read
deeper into the text and find an array of assorted conflicts in the realm on human vs. human, human
vs. nature, human vs. society, and society vs. society. For the purposes of this paper I shall focus on
the labyrinth of human vs. human and human vs. society in the framework of the role of women in
Igbo society and how men assign and dictate these roles. I will also briefly explain the importance ...

A clear instance of this is the case of Okonkwo s mother. While the presence of his father, although
negative, is prevalent in much of the novel, the presence of his mother is all but nonexistent. To my
knowledge, his (unnamed) mother shows up only once in the text, three days after his participation in
the ritual murder of Ikemefuna, his adopted son (Jeyifo 3).
For the first time in three nights, Okonkwo slept. He woke up once in the middle of the night and his
mind went back to the past three days without making him feel uneasy. He began to wonder why he
felt uneasy at all. It was like a man wondering in broad daylight why a dream had appeared so terrible
to him at night. He stretched himself and scratched his thigh where a mosquito had bitten him as he
slept. Another one was wailing near his right ear. He slapped the ear and hoped he had killed it. Why
do they always go for one s ears? When he was a child his mother had told him a story about it.
But it was as silly as all women s stories. Mosquito, she had said, had asked Ear to marry him,
whereupon she fell on the floor in uncontrollable laughter. How much longer do you think you will
live?, she asked. You are already a skeleton. Mosquito went away humiliated, and anytime he passed
her way he told Ear that he was still alive (Achebe 53).
This could have been a critical turning point in the text pre shadowed by what we were told earlier in

External Hiring As I mentioned before, it was part of my strategic plan to promote from within when
plausible. I hired externally for entry level positions and most mid level positions. I usually promoted
internally for upper level jobs, but occasionally hired externally to acquire employees with a fresh
perspective. I consulted the staffing report to view projected available positions in each level to
determine promo ability. Overall, I hired more external employees because the majority of the
available jobs were in entry level positions. I chose not to hire any employees in the first quarter
because I was not sure of the simulation and used that quarter to see the difference between projected
resignations and actual without making any decisions. In quarter 6 I chose not to hire for budget
reasons. The following chart reflects the internal and external hire values per quarter. Quarter 0 |

Geneseo
When I first came to Geneseo s Main Street I was shocked. In my imagination it appeared to be at
least twice bigger than it actually was. After wandering along Main Street for a couple of minutes I
realized that Geneseo is more than just a small town somewhere in Livingstone County in the Finger
Lakes region of New York. Due to its relatively small population Geneseo is a cozy and amiable
environment where everyone seems to be to a part of a big family Geneseo family. I was impressed by

Personal Narrative-Le Brochet
I crossed the channel in the hull of a steamer Le Brochet . I went via La Havre because it was cheaper,
but it meant the journey took two days all up. That was a miserable time. Stowed in the fetid saloon of
the ship, I was ill throughout the trip. All I remember of the crossing is claustrophobic darkness,
punctuated by occasional groaning. Almost a hundred and fifty other third class passengers
accompanied me in the saloon. It cost less than a cabin, and so the saloon attracted the motley poor
like a free Church lunch. In the squalid space there was just enough room to lie down. I passed the
journey with a bucket next to my head, into which I periodically retched. I was in good company;
almost all the saloon dwellers were likewise occupied. We weren t allowed on deck only passengers
with a cabin could go above. While they restored themselves in the fresh air, we remained in the
stifling dark below. Slowly time ebbed away below deck. Bucket in hand, vomit in bucket. Sweaty
darkness all around. At last the ship docked at Webbings. I staggered onshore and filled my lungs with
the fresh air. A great sense of relief overcame me. Here I would be rich. Or, if not rich, I wouldn t be
poor. Thoughts of wealth transformed the docks, and England became beautiful. With a tame imbecile

Analysis Of The Episode Harley And Ivy From Batman The...
The episode Harley and Ivy from Batman the Animated Series is full of interesting ideas and exciting
calls to action for its audience. Poison Ivy and her adventures with Harley Quinn not only explore
what it means to be a virtuous character but also question what it means to be and independent and
strong woman. Ivy specifically acts as the main example of female empowerment and throughout the
entire. While the author of the episode, Paul Dini, and the director of the episode, Boyd Kirkland, do
not tackle the feminist goals of this episode in totally flawless ways, they still do a good job of using
Poison Ivy s character to asks the audience, specifically the female audience, to encourage female
friendship, fight sexism, and questions gender roles and what it means to be a virtuous and
empowered woman. In this episode Harley and Ivy become partners in crime, but they also become
living partners in Ivy s home, they seem to enjoy sharing the space and are seen drinking coffee
together among other homey activities. In the scenes when they are home together, they both looked
relaxed, comfortable, and happy with each other. Neither of them wear any of their regular villain
outfits, but instead trade their crime causing fashion for big comfy t shirts. I would argue that they
become romantic partners and because of this they become the perfect team. They decide to work
together, they become the Queens of Crime, robbing museums and stealing money, and they become

Lisfranc Fracture-Dislocation Case Study
The Lisfranc fracture dislocation is characterised as an injury of the tarsometatarsal joints of the foot.
This region of the foot is prone to injury due to the lack of ligaments separating the bases of the first
and second metatarsals (Bontrager Lampignano, 2010). The Lisfranc joint articulates between the
cuneiforms and cuboid of the foot, along with the distal end of metatarsals, and separates the forefoot
from the midfoot. The joint can be seen from three different views in Figure 1 of the appendix (Kalia,
Fishman, Carrino, Fayad, 2011). The clinical indications of a Lisfranc fracture dislocation include
oedema and tenderness in the area of the midfoot. The injury is usually caused by the foot being
overly plantar flexed, and is often associated with vehicular accidents and sporting injuries (Scolaro,
Ahn Mehta, 2011).
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the separation between the base of the first and second metatarsals is less than two millimetres, the
recommended treatment is to cast and immobilise the foot until healed. However, the most common
form of treatment is surgical and known as open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). In Figure 4, a
radiographic image shows how a surgical screw has been positioned to stabilise and internally fixate
the Lisfranc fracture dislocation (Southerland, Boberg, Downey, Nakra Rabjohn, 2012).
It has been suggested by Scolaro (2011) et al. that if the Lisfranc fracture dislocation is greater than
two millimetres long term complications such as arthritis and damage to surrounding ligaments can
occur. However, the likelihood of obtaining posttraumatic arthritis is decreased dramatically if ORIF
surgery is performed soon after initial injury. If the Lisfranc fracture was a result of an athletic injury,
pain and instability of the foot can occur and arthrodesis may be necessary for long term treatment

complete opposites right? Well they actually are quite similar but in fact these two s differences do

Forrester, two unforeseen individuals become companions and form a bond as teacher and student. In
the beginning both characters are closed off to the world in some way. Forrester traps himself in his

This observation describes Jamal looking past Forrester s skin color and the stereotypes that come
with it, to find a man who is inspirational and supportive. Just like he did Massie, Jamal could have
judged Forrester and ruined this influential relationship in his life. Jamals quick to make assumptions
attitude hinders him as it limits his connections with others. Evolving from pompous behavior further
represents when Forrester refuses to defend Jamal because he wants to protect himself but after he
reads the letter Jamal wrote him, he chooses to sacrifice his privacy to protect his friend. Forrester
then comes to the school s writing contest, that Jamal was accused of committing plagiarism for, and
reads Jamal s writing and proves that Jamal had not stolen any work. It comes down to a moment of
truth for both men: for Jamal, a choice between following his dream or betraying a friend, and for
Forrester, a decision to remain closed off or to look at the world through new eyes. (Movielocity,
2001, p.3) Forrester, left with a difficult choice, chooses to help his friend. This choice allows him to
expose himself to the world once again and then reverse the bitterness he once felt towards the human
race. Self centered people must alter themselves to be more welcoming and supportive to people.

The Battle Of Hastings Essay
Why did William, Duke of Normandy, Win the Battle of Hastings?
In 1066 AD the King of England died without an heir. Three lords of different countries then tried to
secure the English throne for themselves. The first to do so was Harold Godwineson. Harold was
geographically the closest and therefore first to take the throne. Harald Hardrada king of Norway then
invaded England with the intent of claiming the throne, but was repelled by Harold Godwineson s
Anglo Saxon soldiors. Next William, Duke of Normandy invaded England and defeated Harold
Godwineson at the Battle of Hastings. This essay is on why William won this crucial battle.

Harold Godwineson then sent his men off to fight William s Norman.
This is one of the major reasons why William won the Battle of Hastings. William s soldiers had been
waiting and feasting across the English Channel so were well prepared for the battle while Harold s
men were tired, battle weary and many had died during the battle with Harald Hardrada. Evidence of
this is shown in the Bayeux Tapestry showing William s soldiers feasting and preparing for the battle
while they waited for the wind to change.
During and before the battle there were also several crucial developments to help William. Harold
Godwineson forced his army to travel so fast that he left many soldiers behind including most of his
archers. During the battle Harold was killed by an arrow in the eye. This significantly disheartened the
Anglo Saxon soldiers. Harold s death is depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry.
William also made many skilled tactical decisions that helped him win the battle. Before the battle
William had made sure he had a large variety of troops to fight the Anglo Saxons. At the start of the
battle William positioned his men well so they could easily move about. When William s soldiers were
unable to penetrate the Anglo Saxon s shield wall he faked a retreat. The Anglo Saxons broke ranks
and chased after William s troops. The Norman army then turned around and were able to kill the
Anglo Saxons that had

Founding Brothers Book Review Essay

goal in writing this book was to define the political events and achievements that gained historical
significance because they framed the successive history of the United States. Ellis wrote on this
specific topic because he felt the need to argue the fact that the American Revolution and the greatness
achieved by the founding generation were the result of a collective effort. Ellis emphasizes that the
success of the United States, at the time of its formation, was not an inevitable conclusion. At the time,
it was an improbable result that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ellis describes a heated House debate in 1790 where slavery was reluctantly addressed. Benjamin
Franklin and James Madison s reactions are discussed. Ellis recognizes that in this moment,
compromise was absent and the divisions within the country were becoming increasingly conspicuous.
Ellis emphasize that making slavery a non issue eventually led to the Civil War. The next event
described by Ellis was the publishing of George Washington s Farewell Address. Ellis addresses
Washington s legacy and regard for future generations of America. In his next story, Ellis examines
how the relationships of 1776 turned into more sensible collaborations that would mold American
history. Ellis focuses mainly on the relationship between Jefferson and Adams as well as Adams
collaboration with his wife, Abigail. In his final piece of evidence, Ellis tells the story of the extensive
communication between Adams and Jefferson during the last fourteen years of their lives, restoring
their lost friendship after a political betrayal. Overall, based on the sources used, the history is
unbiased, although Ellis does acknowledge the sometimes exaggerated and biased writings of the
Founding Fathers and of those who were around them at the time. These occasional obscurities are
recognized and addressed by Ellis. However, the book is historically accurate and gives an objective
view of each situation. The claims made by

Analysis Of Nietzsche s Exegesis Of Christianity
One obtains the contextual meaning of moral acid by agglutinating the terms corrupt , décadence and
rotten.
Commentary: Christianity corrupts the natural faculties of man that are intellectually more vigorous,
that are the highest intellectual values, considering them as full of temptation, sinful or misleading.
Christianity destroys the intellect. If considered the generalization given by Nietzsche there is the risk
of to staying away of your conceptualization. One should remember that Nietzsche did not make a
exegesis of Christianity, but only he analyzes the interpretation of Christianity to which he had access.
To Nietzsche commentators, he condemns all Christianity doctrine and morality, however, Nietzsche

Virtù occurs eight times in Will of Power and one time in AntiChrist, Beyond Good and Evil, Twilight
of Idols, Ecce Homo.
Virtù: virtue in its primitive signification is manliness, what preeminently distinguishes the full grown
and strong man from the feebler members of his own race; it is the power of resolute, strenuous,
persevering conflict and resistance. Virtù denotes not simply a human being, but a man endowed with
all appropriate manly attributes. [APPMMP Andrew Preston Peabody, (1811 1893), A manual of moral

But, what is virtù for Nietzsche?
Nietzsche does not define the term, but he is clear. In Will to Power, by citing the example of
somebody that feels be born for something better that the work he does, Nietzsche introduces virtù as
have a certain kind of capacity and to use it and gives the origin: this is virtu in the Italian style of the
Renaissance, [FNWP12] that borrows of Voltaire: who understood umanita in the sense of the
Renaissance, as also virtu (as higher culture). It is virtue free from all moralic

1 PRODUCING BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC JUST GOT CHEAPER AND GREENER
The topic of this report is that producing biodegradable plastic just got cheaper and greener. What this
report is about and how it relates to the society, technology and the environment will be discussed.
Biodegradable plastic is plastic that is capable to decompose through the action of living organisms. It
is originally from renewable resources and made from natural materials such as corn starch.
Biodegradable plastic is also an alternative source of plastic. To produce it, First, lactic acid is fed into
a reactor and converted into a type of pre plastic under high temperature and in a vacuum , Professor

takes a shorter period of time to decompose. Normal plastic has harmful impacts on the environment
such as affecting natural habitats and marine wildlife. In the final report for the department for the
Environment Australia, at least 77 species of marine fauna have been recorded as being impacted by
plastic debris in Australian waters over the last three decades (2009). The constant rise in
biodegradable plastics of global production capacities in figure 4 increases the chances of

Detroit Tops Forbes List Of The Most Dangerous Cities
Detroit tops Forbes list of the Most Dangerous Cities this year for the fifth year in a row. What is
encouraging is that the crime rate in the Motor City actually declined last year, despite devestating
financial woes that drove Detroit into the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. Crime affects
the people of Detroit and the city s reputation, employment, income and education. It needs to be
contained and reduced to make Detroit prosper and make the lives of the people living there better.
Detroit had 316 murders in 2013, a rate of 45 per 100,000 people. That s the highest rate among cities
with populations over 100,000. In 2013 Detroit also reported 14,504 violent crimes. That s also the
highest per capita rate in the nation, according to the annual report. The total is comprised of rapes,
murder, robbery and aggravated assault.
The number of homicides peaked in 1974 at 714 and again in 1991 with 615. By the end of 2010, the
homicide count fell to 308 for the year with an estimated population of just over 900,000, the lowest
count and rate since 1967. However, taken in context by population, Detroit remains as a city with one
of the highest rates per capita for homicide in the United States. In April 2008, the city unveiled a
$300 million stimulus plan to create jobs and revitalize neighborhoods, financed by city bonds and
paid for by earmarking about 15% of the wagering tax. Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and Police Chief

Ketchum Grenades
In August of 1861, William F. Ketchum patented the Ketchum Hand Grenade. Shortly after, in the
years of 1863 and 1864, the grenade was implemented in the American Civil War.
With a lemon shaped piece of iron and a tail made of paper or cardboard, the handheld explosive
greatly resembled a dart. On the front of the grenade s body was a plunger, which held a percussion
cap filled with explosive material. When the the grenade fell onto its nose and applied pressure to the
plunger, an explosion was triggered, only to be met by more gunpowder inside. Although the resulting
explosion caused a great deal of mayhem and shrapnel, it was not very reliable because its detonation
depended on the grenade falling directly onto its nose. Because of its temperamental behavior, the
grenade got a reputation for not being very accurate.
During its use by the Union army, the weapon was still in its earliest stages. Although the Confederate
army did not adopt this specific weapon, they had similar ideas such as the Raines grenade, which was
similar in appearance, but completely inadequate for battle. Instead of cardboard fins for a stable
flight, the Raines grenade had a cloth streamer.
Ketchums were used in several important battles such as the battle of Vicksburg and the siege of
Petersburg. Union soldiers threw the grenades at the Confederate troops and stood back for the
explosion. They were faced with an unpleasant surprise when the Confederates found a way to avoid

Developmental Theories Of Child Development
Developmental theory, with Piaget as the most prominent theorist, presents the idea that children
actively construct knowledge as they manipulate and explore the world around them. Development is
seen to take place in broad stages from birth through to adulthood, with each stage characterized by
qualitatively distinct ways of thinking. However, some developmental theorists, in contrast to Piaget,
place more emphasis on personal, social and emotional development rather than cognitive
development and prefer to delay academic experiences until later, for instance after the age of seven
years in Steiner s theory. A further distinction between developmental theorists sees some as holding a
discontinuous theory of development that is believing that stages are discrete and distinct, with
children moving from one to the other in a clear cut fashion, whereas others believe that the stages are
continuous and overlap, with the child moving to and fro across distinctions. Developmental theories
recognize both consistency and variability in child development (DEEWR, 2010: 2). The focus for
early childhood educators is clearly on understanding each child s development and then planning to
facilitate the identified developmental needs. This will determine what should be the nucleus of the
curriculum. Developmental theories in practice If you incorporate a developmental perspective in your
work with young children you would: believe that young children need time to mature and

Goffman Stigma Chapter Summaries
In chapter one of Stigma, Goffman describes different definitions of the term stigma. For example in
the very beginning of the book he describes how early Greeks used the term stigma. He describes how
the Greeks would refer stigma to body markings of different individuals to show how they were
deviant and socially unacceptable in their society at that time. Goffman then describes how in later
Christianity the word stigma and body markings meant a spiritual symbol or a symbol for a physical
disorder. Throughout chapter one Goffman identifies three different types of stigma; body which can
be described as physical, character which is described as internal or personal, and tribal stigma which
could be consider social or even cultural. After identifying these three different stigmas, Goffman then
describes how there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

beginning of chapter two Goffman describes how there is inconsistency between virtual identity and
social identity between individuals, and how those individuals are shamed. Throughout chapter two of
this book, Goffman has eight different subtopics that label and explains information control and
personal identity. Under Social Information, Goffman discusses the importance of how different
symbols mean different things. For example in the book a wedding ring typically means one is

Analysis OfOur Oceans Are Turning Into Plastic, Are You,...
Plastic isn t known to be a substance made for consumption, but you may be eating it every day. In
Our Oceans Are Turning into Plastic...Are You? the author Susan Casey is informing us how bad
plastic is polluting our oceans. Susan Casey is the author of a New York Times best seller, The Devils
Teeth , helped publish Into Thin Air and The Perfect Storm, and is the editor and chief of Oprah
Winfrey s Magazine O . She argues that these pollutants are doing damage in multiple facets, such as
affecting food chains, disrupts organism reproduction, and directly cause the things we consume to be
harmful to us. The author found many creative ways to appeal to all three persuasive appeals which
are Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. Although the article was great at the end she added things that weren t
needed and seemed to just be there as filler. To set up the stage for her credibility she tells a short story
of the person who she gets most of her information from. The person s name is Charles Moore he was
a boat captain who decided to take a different route that he usually takes, and he found a huge area of
circling garbage in the ocean and this led to him changing occupations and creating Marine Research
Foundation. She further explains his credentials and those who work for his foundations credibility.
Her extensive explanation of Moore and what people who work for him is an effective form of Ethos.
Although the beginning may seem long and stretched out longer than it had to be its not, she had to
approach this topic this way because she is an accomplished writer but not in this field so she with this
specific topic isn t a credible source, so she found one. Along with Ethos she threw both Pathos and
Logos back to back when she tells us how seeing dead birds wash ashore is more prevalent than is
used to be, discussing pictures of our trash cutting up animals, then showing a picture of a turtle who
is deformed because of a plastic ring. After this she has a chart that shows how much plastic
production has increased over the years and another one that shows only 3% of plastic is recycled.
That was an effective choice of timing and placement because most people when they see graphs they

Dr. Gregory House Listening Style Analysis
Although I am just being introduced to the television show House M.D., I have seen several different
aspects of interpersonal communication through each of the main characters. The most profound
aspect of communication demonstrated in the episode Three Stories, is listening. McCornack
describes listening as receiving, attending to, understanding, responding to, and recalling sounds and
visual images (147). In specific, Dr. Gregory House, Dr. Allison Cameron and the students all exhibit
key characteristics of the four listening styles with the incorporation of the functions of listening. First
off, the main character of House M.D., Dr. Gregory House, can be described as an action oriented and
time oriented listener. An action oriented listener wants brief, to the point, and accurate messages from
others information they can then use to make decisions or initiate courses of action (McCornack 160).
Similarly, a time oriented listener prefers brief and concise encounters (McCorncack 161). Dr. House
displays both of these type of listening styles in not only the way he listens to information, but also in
the way he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main characters revealed in the episode Three stories have displayed what it takes to be one of
these type of listeners. I have discussed to very different doctors that provide distinctively different
patient care based on their listening style. The students attending Dr. House s lecture also played a key
role in demonstrating a different listening style that many students in any educational career can relate.
Their listening styles have intertwined with the functions of listening they use, because the way you
intend to listen affects the style in which you do. Overall, House M.D. provided excellent examples of
not only the different styles of which one listens, but also the functions in which he/she intends to

Sociological Explanations Of Prejudice Essay
From birth, we are culturally conditioned by prejudice, this is due to several factors some of which are
the media, our family, as well as our friends. Prejudice refers to our attitude towards others, whether it
be their race, sex, religion, etc. Prejudice tends to evolve into discrimination over time, discrimination
being the negative behavior we show towards others. By the age six and seven, children are beginning
to notice differences in skin color, as well as observe the ways in which people s lives differ. Often
times a child s view is persuaded or shaped by the stereotypes of the adults around them. Some adults
may not consider how their views and their words may impact the way a young child sees the world.
For an example, take a child raised into a wealthy family, whose parents tend to vocalize their
negative opinions of the middle class, this child is likely to obtain the same prejudice over time. In the
same aspects, a child from a less fortunate family whose parents are unable to afford the nicer luxuries
in life, may grow to form their own prejudice out of jealously. Seeing others who are able to do more
or afford more, may cause this child to feel resentment towards those who are better off. Feeling bitter,
as though they have been treated unfairly, and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over time the social lines may tend to blur between what is and isn t acceptable. People may throw
out what is morally right and go with what they believe to be true. Such as, a brother of a soldier killed
in combat may grow in their dislike of the opposing nationality, racially stereotyping, considering
them all to be the same. The brother then conforms to and may even act out in discriminative or
violent ways. This prejudice is likely already rooted in him since childhood, although the loss of the
brother sets this behavior into

causing a fatal car accident that took the lives of his fiancée and six others. He says, In seven days,
God created the world. And in seven seconds, I shattered mine. The number seven is a recurring
theme, but after further analyzing the film, its title alludes to The Merchant of Venice. In this
Shakespearean play, when a loan goes unpaid, a moneylender is entitled to a pound of the debtor s
flesh as payment. To atone for the deaths in the tragic car crash, Thomas repays his debts, with his

Relationship Between Long Distance Relationships
Despite the fact that relationships can be troubling, stressful, and even deadly, most of us are aware
that we need relationships with others and that the quality of our lives depends on those relationships
whether it is from friends or romantic partners. With the development of technology the evolution of
long distance dating relationships are transforming. Long distance relationships used to primarily
consist of handwritten letters with the occasional phone call in between. However, progression and
advancements in technology have led to numerous means of new communication. The Internet created
a new and unexpected dynamic in the realm of romantic and long distance dating relationships. It is
popularly believed that people who are deeply in love spend a great deal of time simply looking at
each other. Being able to look at each other implies that the couple is in close proximity of each other
to perform this task of developing intimacy. Couples in long distance relationships do not have this
luxury of being in close proximity of their loved one for weeks, months, and in some cases even years
apart from each other. Because satisfying close relationships are associated with happiness, it is not
surprising that their absence in this case long distance relationships can sometimes be associated with
unhappiness and psychological state of loneliness. Being part of a long distance relationship can cause

King Charles I of Spain until their independence in 1838 (Background, 2012). Struggling with the new

Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis
Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about
which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be. Those
such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World and Screen
respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally, are often forgotten.
On the other side, however, Tim Freider in his work The Busy Trap contends that leisure is just as
neglected in our fast paced world. Despite these seemingly different statements, these works share
quite a lot on when looks just below the surface. In Blue Collar Brilliance Mike Rose describes his
appreciation for the often unnoticed intelligence that many blue collar workers posses as well as the
positive impact that physical work can have on the lives of those taking part in it. Nothing he says

Calpurnia has always and continues to raise Jem and Scout as if they were her own kids. Even in
Scout s earliest memories, Calpurnia has always been around. Calpurnia taught the kids to read like
she had taught her own son to read. She does not go easy on Jem and Scout lake any other mother.
One example was when Scout was disrespecting Walter Cunningham even though he was a guest over
for dinner. Calpurnia pulled Scout away from the table and reprimanded her for not treating Walter as
company. Like any other good mother, Calpurnia comforts and spends lots of time with the kids.
When Jem was growing up and leaving Scout behind, Jem lashed out at Scout and told her she had to
start acting like a girl. Scout fled to Calpurnia crying and Calpurnia comforted her by calmly talking it
through. Calpurnia also found things to do with Scout in the kitchen so she would not feel lonely
without Jem. Also, Calpurnia defends Jem and Scout like she would if they were her children. When
Calpurnia brings them to her all black church, Lula makes it very clear that she did not want white

Health Education Memo
To the Delaware School District:
Children come to school to learn and learn different things. Students come to school to learn Math,
Science, Social Studies, Reading, Writing, Art, Character Traits, Technology, Library Skills, and then
of course Health. A child must learn the importance of health education because this is something that
they WILL need to know for the outside world. Health Education teaches students to increase their
involvement in their own life and overall make better choices to live a healthier lifestyle. If this
program doesn t exist, more children will lack this knowledge. When children lack knowledge about
Health Education, there are more likely to become obese, smoke tobacco, do drugs, sell drugs, or

The Delaware School District lacks any implementation of a tobacco and drug free school zone. Your
students lack knowledge of this and teachers lack involvement in this idea. Tobacco and drugs are
something most children are around due to smoking at home or smoking with other relatives. Teaching
students the danger to the health is the key to teaching students not to participate in smoking or drugs.
The schools in your district can watch a video with the students about the dangers, then every student
can take a pledge to be tobacco and drug free . Students could also receive a certificate saying they are
tobacco and drug free. This helps students feel special and shows them the importance of being
tobacco and drug free. This would take about a year to implement because you would have to find an
appropriate video and time to show the videos to each grade level. Also it would take time to get the
certificates with each student s name on

Foreign Exchange Market Essay
Introduction Any time someone travels to a foreign country, chances are they needed to exchange their
money, and in doing so, participated in ForEx trading. For many first time traders the Foreign
Exchange market can seem very confusing. ForEx is short for Foreign Exchange, it is the market in
which people can exchange currencies from all over the world (Peters, J. 2012). When someone trades
on the foreign exchange market, they are buying once currency and selling another. Buying and selling
occurs at the same time in the ForEx market, which is why currencies are always quoted in pairs
(Peters, J. 2012). Various factors such as economics and geopolitics cause exchange rates to fluctuate,
so currencies rise and fall against each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

are buying and selling, for example EUR/USD. The first currency mentioned, which in this case is
called the euro, is considered the base currency. The second currency listed in the pair is called the
counter currency. The most commonly traded pairs are called the majors, and these include
EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GPD/USD, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, and USD/CAD (Kritzer, A. 2012). Notice
that the US dollar is always listed as one of the currencies in a major pair. The major pairs make up a
large portion of the ForEx market, and as a result, have high liquidity (Kritzer, A. 2012). In addition to
the major pairs, there is also something called crosses (Kritzer, A. 2012). Cross pairs do not contain
the US dollar as a currency, but contain other major currencies, For example the Euro and the Swiss
Franc EUR/CHF. The last type of pair traded on the ForEx market is the exotics. Exotics are pairs that
have one major currency, and another that is from an emerging market, such as the Singapore dollar
SGD or South African rand ZAR (Kritzer, A. 2012). Why is Asia Different? When trading on the
ForEx market with currencies from Asia, things can be a little tricky. Unlike the US and most of
Europe, there is no dominant currency in Asia. Almost every country uses its own

The Importance Of Wisdom And Love In Literature
Many characters in books show wisdom and love when they meet serious problems or crossroads
especially when the problem and the crossroads relate to their family or their friends. Wisdom and
love are great topics in literature, because almost every theme is related to wisdom or love in some
way. Love helps characters to think more seriously and with more detail when they are facing serious
problems or crossroads. Wisdom helps characters make better choices or decisions. In The Wizard of
Oz by L. Frank Baum and That was Then, This is Now by S.E. Hinton, Scarecrow and Bryon showed
wisdom and love when Scarecrow and Bryon influenced their friends and family by serious incidents
which happened around them.
In The Wizard of Oz, the Scarecrow showed wisdom because he decided to escape from the Kalidahs,
crossed the huge river, and saved Dorothy and friends from the crows attack. For example, Scarecrow
gives an idea to make bridge with big tree to save Dorothy and her friend, including himself from
Kalidahs attack. Scarecrow says, Here is a great tree, standing close to the ditch. If the Tin Woodman
can chop it down, so that it will fall to the other side, we can walk across it easily. By this idea,
Scarecrow saved himself and his friends. If he didn t, maybe he and his friends would die. But because
of his Idea, Dorothy and her friends saved their lives and could continue their journey to Emerald City.
For second example, Scarecrow asked Tin Woodman to build the raft, so they

Steven Spielberg s Movies Essay
Steven Spielberg is one of the most successful directors of all time (in fact, may people would argue
that he is the most successful director there has ever been) and his movies have been some of the most
profitable and well known in history. His opening sequences are noted for being captivating, gripping
and often scary, building tension and suspense. Born in 1946 in Ohio, Spielberg has become elite
among directors. The gross of the films he has directed is estimated at $8.5 billion, and three of his
films Jurassic Park, Jaws and E.T. the extra terrestrial have achieved box office records.
Though Jaws is one of his most successful films, it was nearly shut down due to delays and budget
over runs. However, Spielberg went ahead with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spielberg s Saving Private Ryan has been credited as being the most accurate war recreation film in
history. It is the winner of five Academy Awards including Best Director for Steven Spielberg. Like
Jaws, the opening scene has perfect equilibrium, calm at both the beginning and the end. Another
thing this opening scene has in common with Jaws is the under water camera, and there are also shots
from the killer s point of view in this case, the shooters . In addition to this, they both end with calm
water; a common theme in Spielberg s openings. At the beginning of the scene, there is a long shot of
a war cemetery; this drives home the seriousness of the war and just how many people died as it is
very easy to forget the sheer number of people who were murdered during the war. The extreme close
up on the eye of an old Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) gives the audience a feeling of connection with
the character and lets them know he is going to have an important role within the film. During the
fight scene the camera angles are wild movements and a handheld camera is used to give the effect of
a person running as though it is from one of the soldiers point of view as this is likely to be something
like what they would have seen and experienced. There are many visual effects such as one boat being
set on fire with the soldiers still

The Condom Distribution Debate Essay
The Condom Distribution Debate
The topic of condom distribution in public schools has caused many heated debates throughout our
country in the last decade. Proponents of distribution state that free condom distribution will ensure
that teenagers will practice safe sex and that the rate of sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy
will decline. Opponents of distribution state that free condom distribution will encourage sexual
activity and foster the idea that premarital sex is acceptable. Judges in federal court have even
considered whether or not condom distribution and sex education without prior parental notification
violates parents First and Fourteenth Amendment rights. The only viewpoint absent in a discussion of

No doubt a large majority of American teenagers are sexually active, but I believe the assumption that
all teenagers are, or desire to be, sexually active is fallacious. I think that in making this assumption,
we have oversimplified the solution to the problem. I am confident that if we took the time to ask why
so many teenagers are sexually active today, we would discover the solution is not a simple one.
Maybe we have not asked in fear of discovering that a satisfactory solution requires more thought and
energy than deciding whether or not to keep a basket of condoms in the nurse s room.
John Leo, a columnist for U.S. News and World Report, reveals hidden solutions to preventing the
problems caused by teenage sex. These solutions have remained hidden because they involve directly
communicating with American teenagers. Leo s article specifically discusses the opinions of young
women about sexual intercourse, motherhood, and self esteem issues. The title of Leo s article,
Learning to Say No, immediately informs the reader that contrary to most of society s beliefs,
teenagers often struggle with their decision to have sexual intercourse. The title implies that saying no
to sexual intercourse is not as simple as some depict it to be; rather, the ability to refuse needs to be
taught as an important component of any sexual education program.

As soon as they get to Treasure Island, Jim and his comrades escape from the wrath of Silver and hide
out in a bunker in the forest. Silver soon realizes this and declares war on Jim and his men. While
exploring the forest, Jim comes across a man by the name of Ben Gunn. Ben is the only inhabitant of
Treasure Island, and was marooned there three long years earlier. Ben decides to stay hidden in the
woods while Jim goes back to the bunker. While at the bunker, Jim and his men are repeatedly
attacked by Silver. The next day, Jim boards the Hispanola and beaches it miles down shore so no one
can find it but him. Silver is greatly angered by this and captures Jim along with his men. They
happily trade Silver the treasure map for their freedom, but when Silver goes to look for the treasure,
he finds that someone has taken it. What Silver did not know was that earlier in the day, Ben Gunn had
discovered the treasure and had hidden it in his cave. Jim and his men now have the treasure, and all
of Silver amp;#8217;s men leave after they get in a fight. Jim and his men take Silver aboard to reach
civilization and to have him imprisoned. But when they reach shore, Silver grabs two handfuls of
treasure and fleas, never to be seen again.

character. Although Jim likes Silver, the reader knows that Silver is the one legged man that the

  • 2. The Major Components, Strengths, and Limitations of Urie... Developmental psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner first introduced the Ecologicial Systems model in the 1970 s. Bronfenbrenner argued that to understand human development, the environment in which the person belongs must be understood (Bronfenbrenner, U.1979). The Ecological Systems model concentrically depicts how a person s development is influenced by their wider environment. In the original model there were four ecological levels in the system, however in 1979 Bronfenbrenner added an additional fifth level (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). With the developing person in the centre, the five progressive levels of environment include the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, marcosystem and the chronosystem. The microsystem refers to the activities, social roles and interpersonal relationships experienced by the individual in a face to face setting in their immediate environment. Examples of a microsystem include a child interacting with school friends and family. The mesosystem makes reference to the connections between the different aspects of the microsystem, for example the links between family and the work environment as the work environment can affect the family environment. The exosystem refers to the links between two or more settings with at least one of the settings not directly influencing the person, for example, the workplace of a parent and the home environment. The macrosystem is the overarching paradigms of the micro , meso and exosystems. The macrosystem is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The culture of using electronic payment is already established in Canada and RFID will be more readily accepted in the areas where the most electronic payments occur. In areas outside of the three metropolitan locations mention, Dexit should target younger consumers who will be more willing to enroll and replenish the accounts via the internet. After reading the article, River Plan Too Fishy for my Taste Buds by Bill McEwen I chose and decided to use this article because it has plenty of reasonable facts. Bill McEwen emerged as veteran journalist who has worked in various positions for the Bee since 1980. He grew up in the community and knows how everything works. The article McEwen wrote operated and published in the Fresno Bee in March 6, 2015 in a city surrounded by farms. After the approval of the project they have prepared for it and since then they have had a lot of successes. One of the successes appeared as the salmon experiment, 1,200 salmon got released for the first time in the river and over 40% of these fish successfully migrated 150 miles downstream of the river. The project will cost approximately 892 million dollars with an additional 188 million dollars in levee improvements. The followers of this project believe that the money has continued well spend but not necessarily true. The project continues in the process, but it has displayed working characteristics for some of the salmon s migration to different parts of the river. The current drought California suffers affected the project since it caused a delay. Farmers and near residents think the project needs reevaluation to put priorities first. Since California expects El Nino projections appear to affect the San Joaquin Project since we would get more water and easier to continue the project. After reading multiple articles and gathering research my viewpoint of this plan does not change. I believe California shouldn t waste the money they have to solve simple problems when they have bigger problems to solve. Restoring the river affects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Police officers interfere in domestic conflict to prevent further issues. This happens on a much larger scale quite often. communication, of other countries, though they are sometimes uninvited. When a government has interest in a country, whether they are allies or simply have the same ethnic or cultural origins, they feel the need or right to support and defend that country against antagonists. Based on these standards, the 3 current world powers are Russia, China, and the United States; the United States being number 1 and Russia being third. These 3 countries widely affect everything. If the U.S. market or China s import export kingdom crumbled, other countries could fall into serious problems. Throughout time, world powers have made their moves, and many others have followed. On October 4, 1957, Russia launched the Soviet R 7 intercontinental ballistic missile into space. This began the space race. Many other countries started researching, and building satellites and shuttles for space exploration, but the main competition was between the U.S. and Russia. Russia put many countries in motion to start a space program. Based on this information, you may be thinking, Can these countries can interfere and influence others just because they are more advanced? This is not always the case, and sometimes interference is not even by a world power country. Any country s government can interfere in conflict if they have the right legal footing. • 7. Car Tuning The modification of company manufactured vehicles, otherwise known as Car Tuning , has become increasingly widespread over the past few years. It has developed from industry application into being a popular hobby in which cars are modified by their owners in order to optimize performance, handling and perhaps add a personal touch. This type of activity might be mistaken by many to be reserved for racing junkies , but if we take a closer look, it actually proves to be quite beneficial in terms of fuel consumption and safety. Superchargers or turbochargers are known to increase engine efficiency and power, whereas advanced suspension and braking tend to drastically upgrade handling and thus safety. A carefully designed exhaust system can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A spark plug ignites the mixture and the combustion takes place. In this phase, timing is crucial since the spark must occur when the air/fuel mixture is compressed to the optimal point. Else, the combustion will not work as effectively as it should. Once the combustion takes place, the piston is pushed back down Now, the exhaust valves evacuate the product of the combustion and the engine is ready for another cycle. Here, we notice the importance of the valves that must open at the correct time to fill the combustion chamber and then to clear this chamber from the product of the combustion. The timing of the valves is controlled by the Cam Shaft. This part of the engine decides on the correct timing: thus filling the combustion chamber when needed and evacuating it when it is full. Factory, or stock , cars are made for average driving conditions and driver expectations. Sacrifices in performance, efficiency, and even handling are made for more comfort (Wikipedia). Car tuning is not yet very popular among people especially here in Lebanon. While people may think that car tuning is only for race junkies , the fact is that it actually improves the efficiency, performance, handling, and power of the car. The personal motive behind car tuning is usually personalizing the car to suit its owner s needs, driving style, and personality. Engine efficiency is a major issue in the car industry. The Role of Women in Things Fall Apart Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart explores the struggle between old traditions within the Igbo community as well as Christianity and the second coming it brings forth. To my knowledge, his (unnamed) mother shows up only once in the text, three days after his participation in the ritual murder of Ikemefuna, his adopted son (Jeyifo 3). For the first time in three nights, Okonkwo slept. He woke up once in the middle of the night and his mind went back to the past three days without making him feel uneasy. He began to wonder why he felt uneasy at all. It was like a man wondering in broad daylight why a dream had appeared so terrible to him at night. He stretched himself and scratched his thigh where a mosquito had bitten him as he slept. Another one was wailing near his right ear. He slapped the ear and hoped he had killed it. Why do they always go for one s ears? When he was a child his mother had told him a story about it. But it was as silly as all women s stories. Mosquito, she had said, had asked Ear to marry him, whereupon she fell on the floor in uncontrollable laughter. How much longer do you think you will live?, she asked. You are already a skeleton. • 11. Personal Narrative-Le Brochet I crossed the channel in the hull of a steamer Le Brochet . I went via La Havre because it was cheaper, but it meant the journey took two days all up. That was a miserable time. Stowed in the fetid saloon of the ship, I was ill throughout the trip. All I remember of the crossing is claustrophobic darkness, punctuated by occasional groaning. Almost a hundred and fifty other third class passengers accompanied me in the saloon. It cost less than a cabin, and so the saloon attracted the motley poor like a free Church lunch. In the squalid space there was just enough room to lie down. I passed the journey with a bucket next to my head, into which I periodically retched. I was in good company; almost all the saloon dwellers were likewise occupied. We weren t allowed on deck only passengers with a cabin could go above. While they restored themselves in the fresh air, we remained in the stifling dark below. Slowly time ebbed away below deck. Bucket in hand, vomit in bucket. Sweaty darkness all around. At last the ship docked at Webbings. I staggered onshore and filled my lungs with the fresh air. A great sense of relief overcame me. Here I would be rich. Or, if not rich, I wouldn t be poor. • 12. Analysis Of The Episode Harley And Ivy From Batman The... The episode Harley and Ivy from Batman the Animated Series is full of interesting ideas and exciting calls to action for its audience. Poison Ivy and her adventures with Harley Quinn not only explore what it means to be a virtuous character but also question what it means to be and independent and strong woman. Ivy specifically acts as the main example of female empowerment and throughout the entire. While the author of the episode, Paul Dini, and the director of the episode, Boyd Kirkland, do not tackle the feminist goals of this episode in totally flawless ways, they still do a good job of using Poison Ivy s character to asks the audience, specifically the female audience, to encourage female friendship, fight sexism, and questions gender roles and what it means to be a virtuous and empowered woman. In this episode Harley and Ivy become partners in crime, but they also become living partners in Ivy s home, they seem to enjoy sharing the space and are seen drinking coffee together among other homey activities. In the scenes when they are home together, they both looked relaxed, comfortable, and happy with each other. Neither of them wear any of their regular villain outfits, but instead trade their crime causing fashion for big comfy t shirts. I would argue that they become romantic partners and because of this they become the perfect team. They decide to work together, they become the Queens of Crime, robbing museums and stealing money, and they become more powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Lisfranc Fracture-Dislocation Case Study The Lisfranc fracture dislocation is characterised as an injury of the tarsometatarsal joints of the foot. This region of the foot is prone to injury due to the lack of ligaments separating the bases of the first and second metatarsals (Bontrager Lampignano, 2010). The Lisfranc joint articulates between the cuneiforms and cuboid of the foot, along with the distal end of metatarsals, and separates the forefoot from the midfoot. The joint can be seen from three different views in Figure 1 of the appendix (Kalia, Fishman, Carrino, Fayad, 2011). The clinical indications of a Lisfranc fracture dislocation include oedema and tenderness in the area of the midfoot. The injury is usually caused by the foot being overly plantar flexed, and is often associated with vehicular accidents and sporting injuries (Scolaro, Ahn Mehta, 2011). According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the separation between the base of the first and second metatarsals is less than two millimetres, the recommended treatment is to cast and immobilise the foot until healed. However, the most common form of treatment is surgical and known as open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). In Figure 4, a radiographic image shows how a surgical screw has been positioned to stabilise and internally fixate the Lisfranc fracture dislocation (Southerland, Boberg, Downey, Nakra Rabjohn, 2012). It has been suggested by Scolaro (2011) et al. that if the Lisfranc fracture dislocation is greater than two millimetres long term complications such as arthritis and damage to surrounding ligaments can occur. However, the likelihood of obtaining posttraumatic arthritis is decreased dramatically if ORIF surgery is performed soon after initial injury. If the Lisfranc fracture was a result of an athletic injury, pain and instability of the foot can occur and arthrodesis may be necessary for long term treatment (Saxena, ... Evolving from pompous behavior further represents when Forrester refuses to defend Jamal because he wants to protect himself but after he reads the letter Jamal wrote him, he chooses to sacrifice his privacy to protect his friend. Harold was geographically the closest and therefore first to take the throne. Harold Godwineson then sent his men off to fight William s Norman. This is one of the major reasons why William won the Battle of Hastings. William s soldiers had been waiting and feasting across the English Channel so were well prepared for the battle while Harold s men were tired, battle weary and many had died during the battle with Harald Hardrada. Evidence of this is shown in the Bayeux Tapestry showing William s soldiers feasting and preparing for the battle while they waited for the wind to change. During and before the battle there were also several crucial developments to help William. Harold Godwineson forced his army to travel so fast that he left many soldiers behind including most of his archers. During the battle Harold was killed by an arrow in the eye. This significantly disheartened the Anglo Saxon soldiers. Harold s death is depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry. William also made many skilled tactical decisions that helped him win the battle. Before the battle William had made sure he had a large variety of troops to fight the Anglo Saxons. At the start of the battle William positioned his men well so they could easily move about. When William s soldiers were unable to penetrate the Anglo Saxon s shield wall he faked a retreat. The Anglo Saxons broke ranks and chased after William s troops. • 16. Founding Brothers Book Review Essay Ellis, Joseph J. Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2000. Print. The book being critiqued in the following review is Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis. Ellis goal in writing this book was to define the political events and achievements that gained historical significance because they framed the successive history of the United States. Ellis wrote on this specific topic because he felt the need to argue the fact that the American Revolution and the greatness achieved by the founding generation were the result of a collective effort. Ellis emphasizes that the success of the United States, at the time of its formation, was not an inevitable conclusion. At the time, it was an improbable result that ... Ellis recognizes that in this moment, compromise was absent and the divisions within the country were becoming increasingly conspicuous. Ellis emphasize that making slavery a non issue eventually led to the Civil War. The next event described by Ellis was the publishing of George Washington s Farewell Address. Ellis addresses Washington s legacy and regard for future generations of America. In his next story, Ellis examines how the relationships of 1776 turned into more sensible collaborations that would mold American history. Ellis focuses mainly on the relationship between Jefferson and Adams as well as Adams collaboration with his wife, Abigail. In his final piece of evidence, Ellis tells the story of the extensive communication between Adams and Jefferson during the last fourteen years of their lives, restoring their lost friendship after a political betrayal. Overall, based on the sources used, the history is unbiased, although Ellis does acknowledge the sometimes exaggerated and biased writings of the Founding Fathers and of those who were around them at the time. These occasional obscurities are recognized and addressed by Ellis. However, the book is historically accurate and gives an objective view of each situation. The claims made by ... Crime affects the people of Detroit and the city s reputation, employment, income and education. It needs to be contained and reduced to make Detroit prosper and make the lives of the people living there better. Detroit had 316 murders in 2013, a rate of 45 per 100,000 people. That s the highest rate among cities with populations over 100,000. In 2013 Detroit also reported 14,504 violent crimes. Shortly after, in the years of 1863 and 1864, the grenade was implemented in the American Civil War. With a lemon shaped piece of iron and a tail made of paper or cardboard, the handheld explosive greatly resembled a dart. On the front of the grenade s body was a plunger, which held a percussion cap filled with explosive material. When the the grenade fell onto its nose and applied pressure to the plunger, an explosion was triggered, only to be met by more gunpowder inside. Although the resulting explosion caused a great deal of mayhem and shrapnel, it was not very reliable because its detonation depended on the grenade falling directly onto its nose. Because of its temperamental behavior, the grenade got a reputation for not being very accurate. During its use by the Union army, the weapon was still in its earliest stages. Although the Confederate army did not adopt this specific weapon, they had similar ideas such as the Raines grenade, which was similar in appearance, but completely inadequate for battle. Instead of cardboard fins for a stable flight, the Raines grenade had a cloth streamer. Ketchums were used in several important battles such as the battle of Vicksburg and the siege of Petersburg. • 24. Developmental Theories Of Child Development Developmental theory, with Piaget as the most prominent theorist, presents the idea that children actively construct knowledge as they manipulate and explore the world around them. Development is seen to take place in broad stages from birth through to adulthood, with each stage characterized by qualitatively distinct ways of thinking. However, some developmental theorists, in contrast to Piaget, place more emphasis on personal, social and emotional development rather than cognitive development and prefer to delay academic experiences until later, for instance after the age of seven years in Steiner s theory. A further distinction between developmental theorists sees some as holding a discontinuous theory of development that is believing that stages are discrete and distinct, with children moving from one to the other in a clear cut fashion, whereas others believe that the stages are continuous and overlap, with the child moving to and fro across distinctions. Developmental theories recognize both consistency and variability in child development (DEEWR, 2010: 2). The focus for early childhood educators is clearly on understanding each child s development and then planning to facilitate the identified developmental needs. This will determine what should be the nucleus of the curriculum. Susan Casey is the author of a New York Times best seller, The Devils Teeth , helped publish Into Thin Air and The Perfect Storm, and is the editor and chief of Oprah Winfrey s Magazine O . She argues that these pollutants are doing damage in multiple facets, such as affecting food chains, disrupts organism reproduction, and directly cause the things we consume to be harmful to us. The author found many creative ways to appeal to all three persuasive appeals which are Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. Although the article was great at the end she added things that weren t needed and seemed to just be there as filler. To set up the stage for her credibility she tells a short story of the person who she gets most of her information from. The person s name is Charles Moore he was a boat captain who decided to take a different route that he usually takes, and he found a huge area of circling garbage in the ocean and this led to him changing occupations and creating Marine Research Foundation. She further explains his credentials and those who work for his foundations credibility. Her extensive explanation of Moore and what people who work for him is an effective form of Ethos. Dr. Gregory House Listening Style Analysis Although I am just being introduced to the television show House M.D., I have seen several different aspects of interpersonal communication through each of the main characters. McCornack describes listening as receiving, attending to, understanding, responding to, and recalling sounds and visual images (147). In specific, Dr. Gregory House, Dr. Allison Cameron and the students all exhibit key characteristics of the four listening styles with the incorporation of the functions of listening. First off, the main character of House M.D., Dr. Gregory House, can be described as an action oriented and time oriented listener. An action oriented listener wants brief, to the point, and accurate messages from others information they can then use to make decisions or initiate courses of action (McCornack 160). • 28. Sociological Explanations Of Prejudice Essay From birth, we are culturally conditioned by prejudice, this is due to several factors some of which are the media, our family, as well as our friends. Prejudice refers to our attitude towards others, whether it be their race, sex, religion, etc. Prejudice tends to evolve into discrimination over time, discrimination being the negative behavior we show towards others. By the age six and seven, children are beginning to notice differences in skin color, as well as observe the ways in which people s lives differ. Often times a child s view is persuaded or shaped by the stereotypes of the adults around them. Some adults may not consider how their views and their words may impact the way a young child sees the world. For an example, take a child raised into a wealthy family, whose parents tend to vocalize their negative opinions of the middle class, this child is likely to obtain the same prejudice over time. In the same aspects, a child from a less fortunate family whose parents are unable to afford the nicer luxuries in life, may grow to form their own prejudice out of jealously. Seeing others who are able to do more or afford more, may cause this child to feel resentment towards those who are better off. Feeling bitter, as though they have been treated unfairly, and that ... Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be. Those such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World and Screen respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally, are often forgotten. On the other side, however, Tim Freider in his work The Busy Trap contends that leisure is just as neglected in our fast paced world. Despite these seemingly different statements, these works share quite a lot on when looks just below the surface. In Blue Collar Brilliance Mike Rose describes his appreciation for the often unnoticed intelligence that many blue collar workers posses as well as the positive impact that physical work can have on the lives of those taking part in it. Nothing he says encapsulates this more than his description of his uncle Joe working on a car assembly line, For Joe the shop floor provided what school did not; it was like schooling, he said, a place where you re constantly learning. Joe Joe learned the most efficient way to use his body with a set of routines that were quick and preserved energy. (1036). This parallels the findings of Carr in World and Screen where he describes how by using our ancestral navigation abilities we keep our mind healthy mentally, by working out the parts of the brain that are in charge of memory, and physically by ... • 44. The Importance Of Wisdom And Love In Literature Many characters in books show wisdom and love when they meet serious problems or crossroads especially when the problem and the crossroads relate to their family or their friends. Wisdom and love are great topics in literature, because almost every theme is related to wisdom or love in some way. Love helps characters to think more seriously and with more detail when they are facing serious problems or crossroads. Wisdom helps characters make better choices or decisions. In The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and That was Then, This is Now by S.E. Hinton, Scarecrow and Bryon showed wisdom and love when Scarecrow and Bryon influenced their friends and family by serious incidents which happened around them. In The Wizard of Oz, the Scarecrow showed wisdom because he decided to escape from the Kalidahs, crossed the huge river, and saved Dorothy and friends from the crows attack. For example, Scarecrow gives an idea to make bridge with big tree to save Dorothy and her friend, including himself from Kalidahs attack. Scarecrow says, Here is a great tree, standing close to the ditch. If the Tin Woodman can chop it down, so that it will fall to the other side, we can walk across it easily. Spielberg s Saving Private Ryan has been credited as being the most accurate war recreation film in history. It is the winner of five Academy Awards including Best Director for Steven Spielberg. Like Jaws, the opening scene has perfect equilibrium, calm at both the beginning and the end. Another thing this opening scene has in common with Jaws is the under water camera, and there are also shots from the killer s point of view in this case, the shooters . In addition to this, they both end with calm water; a common theme in Spielberg s openings. At the beginning of the scene, there is a long shot of a war cemetery; this drives home the seriousness of the war and just how many people died as it is very easy to forget the sheer number of people who were murdered during the war. The extreme close up on the eye of an old Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) gives the audience a feeling of connection with the character and lets them know he is going to have an important role within the film. During the fight scene the camera angles are wild movements and a handheld camera is used to give the effect of a person running as though it is from one of the soldiers point of view as this is likely to be something like what they would have seen and experienced. I think that in making this assumption, we have oversimplified the solution to the problem. I am confident that if we took the time to ask why so many teenagers are sexually active today, we would discover the solution is not a simple one. Maybe we have not asked in fear of discovering that a satisfactory solution requires more thought and energy than deciding whether or not to keep a basket of condoms in the nurse s room. John Leo, a columnist for U.S. News and World Report, reveals hidden solutions to preventing the problems caused by teenage sex. These solutions have remained hidden because they involve directly communicating with American teenagers. Leo s article specifically discusses the opinions of young women about sexual intercourse, motherhood, and self esteem issues. The title of Leo s article, Learning to Say No, immediately informs the reader that contrary to most of society s beliefs, teenagers often struggle with their decision to have sexual intercourse. The title implies that saying no to sexual intercourse is not as simple as some depict it to be; rather, the ability to refuse needs to be taught as an important component of any sexual education program. ...
