An Overview Of Barings Bank
➢ Overview of Barings Bank
Barings Bank was founded in 1763 and known as the oldest merchant bank in London until its
collapse in 1995. The bank not only accepted deposits and provided financial services to its clients but
also traded on its own account. Over the years it became quite successful and in 1980 it set up
brokerage operations in Japan. Soon after, it expanded its operations to include a handful of other
Asian countries and in 1992 it activated its seat on the SIMEX (Singapore International Monetary
Exchange) with Nick Leeson as general manager. However, Leeson used his position to engage in
both fraudulent behavior and risky speculation on futures and options, and ended up losing £1.4
billion of the funds capital, which finally caused the bank s insolvency in 1995. Barings bank was
purchased by, the Dutch bank, ING for the nominal price of £1.
➢ Problems began.
In early 1990 s, derivative is rapid growth financial instrument around the American and European
markets even the Asia Pacific region. Barings Bank began to invest in the arising Singapore market in
order to become one of the first active bankers in the derivative market. Soon, they owned a seat on
the SIMEX. Because of the missing expertise in futures and options, they didn t activate that seat at
first. In March 1992 Barings Bank activated its seat and appointed Nick Leeson, a former Morgan
Stanley back office employee, as general manager. He took charge of the settlements and accounting

The Negative Impacts Of Financialization
History shows that financialization has not only touched the United States, but has been a part of the
cycle of economies throughout time. It affected Spain in the 1300s as well as England in the 1800s
and 1900s. The definitions of financialization are many. One definition says that with regard to the
operation of the economy, it has to do with the increasing importance of financial markets, motives,
institutions, and elites (Assa 2012). Adam Smith defined it as the growing scale and profitability of the
finance sector at the expense of the rest of the economy and the shrinking regulation of its rules and
returns (Collins 2015). It has also been said that in addition to its influence over the economy, its reach
extends to other societal institutions such as government (Gautam 2014). The literature on
financialization written in the last few decades highlights negative impacts on both the real and
financial sides of the economy (Assa 2012).
According to Palley (2007), financialization causes economies to slow their growth and become
fragile with a very real potential outcome being recession. When the financial sector has more power,
it takes precedence over the real sector. It takes money from the real sector and gives it to the financial
sector resulting in huge wage disparities and stagnation in the real sector. The effects on those outside
of the financial sector have been great. Household debt to income ratios have increased, as have
corporate debt to equity ratios

Reflection Paper On Endometriosis
Endometriosis, if not diagnosed in time, could be a fatal disease that could lead to cancer. January
2003, was the day I received the devastating news that would change my life forever. My gynecologist
informed me that I was eat up with Endometriosis and had no choice but to accept a complete
hysterectomy. No one knows my body like me, so I knew that something was amiss when I was
having menstrual cycles that just did not seem normal, not to mention the excruciating pain that I
received every month along with it. I have performed a great deal of research and along with my
personal story with Endometriosis, this is what I found. Living with The Effects of Endometriosis In
2002, I met my husband and as time went on, we decided that we would do whatever it took to have
another baby. For most couples, it has been just a matter of the conception part of it. It was not going
to be that easy for us because I had already had my tubes cut and burned so they said. However, we
were not going to let that stop us. As time went on I had started doing research on the process that we
would have to go through to make this dream come true. There were many trips back and forth to the
doctor s office. Depo shots that cost around $1800 and still, before we knew it, I was having
laparoscopic surgery done to what we thought would get rid of the Endometriosis.
We just knew that it would be all it would take to fix everything. Each time I had it done, it came back
worse than before. After 3 times, once a month, it was time to give up and get the bad news. When the
final test results came back from the last surgery, my doctor called to tell me that I needed to go to her
office so she could go over the results with me. I was scared, but yet, excited. The news I got was
forever life changing, she told me that at this point, my insides looked like a spider had been inside of
me and webbed all of my female organs together and she had done all she knew to do and now it has
come down to 2 choices, I could have a complete hysterectomy, or die. On February 5th, 2003, I went
in for surgery at the Moore Regional Medical Center. Not thinking about the fact that it would send
me into instant menopause, it was nothing but misery for

Population Overpopulation
The Earth is currently 4.54 billion years old, holding about 332,500,000 cubic miles of water, an
estimate of 8.7 billion mammals, and close to 7 billion humans. The modern humans, evolved from
archaic humans, have been roaming the Earth for about 17,000 years. Over the last fifty years, human
population grew faster than it has ever before. In the 1960s, the world population was at about 3
billion people, increasing to an estimate of 6 billion people by 1999. The expected growth of world
population from 6 billion people in 1999 is about 9 billion people by 2044, causing the world to
become overpopulated. The word population causes many different reactions and thoughts. For
example, it stimulates anger because of irresponsible procreation, insufficient funding for birth control
methods, and religion for being against contraception and abortion. The reason that anger is one of the
main reactions is that many are aware of how population growth can damage the Earth and affect the
future. To reduce the population growth rates, there should be a worldwide, two child policy for every
couple during the process of establishing basic education because research has shown the positive
effects of China s one child policy, how Earth s resources are decreasing, and how overpopulation has
negatively affected the environment. By establishing a two child policy for every couple, there could
be many positive results, such as the results that came from China s one child policy. According

The Lack Of Accessibility Of The American Dream
Imagine living in a perfect world where people can do what they want with their life; a world without
discrimination, where art is just as important as math. Well, it s not going to happen. At least not in the
next century. The lack of accessibility of the American dream is especially apparent in the essay by
Kesaya Noda, The Four Freedoms by Franklin Roosevelt, Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty
from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and an excerpt from The Newsroom . The American dream is
inaccessible to the majority of people in America. In the story, a hyphenated American, a Japanese
American girl is segregated due
To her race: I can see myself today as a person historically defined by law and custom as being forever
alien. Being neither free white, nor African, our people in California were deemed aliens, ineligible for
citizenship no matter how long the intended to stay here. Aliens ineligible for citizenship were
prohibited from owning, buying, or leasing land (Noda). Due to the stereotypes and racism caused by
being a minority in America, she is limited in what she can do and therefore cannot achieve what is
perceived to be the American dream. Noda expresses how her parents were discriminated against, how
they never had the opportunity to achieve the American dream because other people didn t view them
as equals when she says our parents were painted as hard workers who were socially uncomfortable
and had difficulty expressing even the smallest opinion. Clean, quiet, motivated, and determined to
match the American way; that is us, and that is the story of our time here (Noda). Nobody saw her
parents as fellow humans and because of it, they didn t even have a chance at living the American
dream. What is the American dream? The American dream is what the founding fathers wanted for our
country. That perfect life where nobody had to worry about personal and economical safety. When
Franklin Roosevelt wrote The Four Freedoms , the American dream is what he was writing about. In
his article, Roosevelt states the basic things expected in America: Equality of opportunity for youth
and others. Jobs for those who can work. Security for those who need it. The ending of special
privilege

Essay on Digital Steerable Line Array
Loudspeakers and Line Arrays play a vital role in live sound reinforcement. The main goal of line
arrays is to evenly distribute the full range of frequencies and loudness of the performance to the
audience, no matter where the people are standing. Stage hands and audio technicians work together
before a live performance in order to achieve the optimum sound quality for the audience s
satisfaction during their experience of the live event. Typically, traditional line arrays are set up by
technicians on ground level. With the help of motorized hoists, the speakers are hanged or flown to be
rigged at a specific height and achieve its J shaped curve provided that the stage or venue is able to
properly accommodate the speakers weight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, each high frequency driver consists of several movable components in order to optimize
the aim of high frequencies. While ICONYX is supposedly one of, if not the first of its kind, Renkus
Heinz is not the only company to develop digitally steerable speakers. Martin Audio s version of
digitally controlled line arrays is called the Multi Cellular Loudspeaker Array or MLA. Aesthetically,
the MLA is more like the line arrays flown on big concerts and stadiums most people are familiar
with. Simply put, by using the provided software, the specifications of venues or audience space is
detected and analyzed by the array itself. Additionally, each of the 72 to 144 cells or parts of the line
array is capable of having its own phase, level, and EQ individually and independently set. All of this
is controlled electronically, by further use of digital signal processing. Due to the sheer amount of
moving components, the MLA has the ability to constantly change its directionality and arrangement
in order to adjust the loudspeakers coverage, or accommodate to weather changes, or rigging height
modifications; in real time. Unfortunately, further in depth scientific data and proof presented by
Martin Audio is far beyond my understanding of physics and acoustics, so I will not attempt to rehash
the information and instead cite the source. Suffice to say, MLA uses

Ryan Ethical Analysis
For this ethics project, our group was well organized and could manage to split the work equally,
while easily guiding through discussion to come to terms with our final decision. On our original
Nolan Ryan ethical worksheets, four members of our group chose not to have Brian return the card;
however there were three group members who thought it was ethical to give the card back. Elle
Fillafer, Olivia Forster, Faisal Almadi, and Khalid AlShehry were group members who, after analyzing
the case and weighing ethical theories, decided that Brian should be able to keep the card due to a fair
purchase. However, Saralyn Jewell, Claire Mclntyre, and LaDiah Davis were members of our group

As a group, we wanted to come to a decision that was both ethical and effective. According to UC San
Diego (2014), if the decision was ethical, it would hold up to the moral standard of the group. If the
decision was effective, it would satisfy the moral standard in both short term and long term. After
developing the foundation for our task, we reviewed and discussed the facts of the Nolan Ryan case to
prepare for presenting our initial standpoint on the case. Everyone in the group shared their initial
decision and why they thought it was both ethical and effective. Of the seven people in our group, four
people thought Brian should keep the card and three people thought that Brian should give the card
back. Because our initial decisions were such a tossup, it was critical that we considered the
consequences of both decisions and how they affect the stakeholders, while still considering the group
s core ethical values. In addition, we established consensus on the percentage of each of the five
ethical theories that should be used in consideration of the

The Effects Of Fracking On The United States And Its...
Introduction With the proliferation of fracking in the United States and its impact on so many different
aspects of society from environmental to health and economic impact, it is an important topic that
demands more research and along with more community awareness. Another aspect of fracking that is
discussed much less than the environmental and public health aspects is that the people that benefit
most from the fracking industry usually white affluent individuals do not live in the area that drilling
process or waste disposal process happens (Johnston, J. j., Werder, E., Sebastian, D. (2016). It is also
important to keep in mind how the elites of society are able to mold and manipulate public opinion to
suit their needs (Davis, C., Fisk, J. M. (2014). It has been shown how persistent opinions from elites
and media messages can sway public opinion in whichever direction they choose (Davis, C., Fisk, J.
M. (2014). This paper demonstrates how the fracking industry not only poisons the environment it
poisons communities through creating conflict and negative public health issues.
Methods In their research review Charles Davis and Jonathan Fisk (2014) set out to examine public
attitudes about the fracking industry, they based their findings on analysis of survey data of 2400
American adults. In their paper Shale Gas Wastewater Management Under Uncertainty Xiaodong

Persbrandt s Role In A Simple Life
not around the role he played. Thomsen is most famous for the role Christian he played in the first
Dogma film, The Celebration (1998), which made him well known to the world. The main adult actor
who played Anton, Mikael Persbrandt, was famous in Sweden. It was the success of In a Better World
that brought him to the international stage. The reason why Bier chose Persbrandt to play the main
role is that he a Swedish actor, which corresponds to Anton s identity in the film. As he is famous in
Sweden, the audience would recognize him, and make connection between his nationality and Anton

However, Roger discovers that Chung has taken care of him like a mother since he was born, and
develops the close relationship step by step. Nevertheless, in Bier s In a Better World, family members
in the two families are supposed to have close kinship, especially between direct relatives. However,
in Elias s family, his father and mother are arguing for a divorce, and lacking in father s companion, he
had a tense relationship with his mother. In Christian s family, the mother died from cancer, and
Christian is angry with his father because he lied to him and promised his mom could get well soon.
The conflicts between them are ambiguous at first, and then the emotion burst out with the
development of the plot. Finally, the film ends with the recovery of harmonious kinship in these two
families. Similar to Hui, Bier also takes the approach of using details to imply the plots. For example,
when Claus are collecting the old photos, he paused when finding out a photo of his wife without her
hair. Without saying a word, this scene delivers a message of the reason of the death of Christian s
mom to the audience. However, apart from filming details, Bier also exaggerates the conflicts by
recording the furious fighting between Claus and Christian when Claus found Christian s knife.
Moreover, close up shots are used to film Anton and Marianne s communication on the phone in order
to highlight their contradiction and sorrow. In addition, when Elias is injured by the bomb then set and
Christian comes to visit him with guilt, Marianne cannot control her anger, and grabbed Christian s
neck, pushed him against the wall and shouted to

Monotheistic Religions Research Paper

Most people generally think that the three monotheistic religions are very different. However, these
are ordinary people, of different religions, and different thoughts. When you celebrate a specific
religion you usually don t want to acknowledge other religions because you feel as though you turn
your back on your god. That is incorrect. The three primary monotheistic religions are Judaism, Islam,
and Christianity. Of course they are different in endless ways, but they are also very identical. Judaism
was the first major religion to teach the existence of one god, which is known as monotheism. Judaism

Synagogues, Churches, and Mosques are all the same concept except with different names. In the
three religions they have very similar features with different names. In this case we are talking about
religious leader. A religious leader is just a person passionate about a religion that runs the temple and

Muslims, Jews, and Christians all believe in the same god. Although they all have different stories,

They also travel in groups for religious purposes. For example Muslims go to Mecca, Jews and
Christians travel to churches. The colossal migrations are called a hajj. They are very sacred, and
important. Although Muslims, Jews, and Christians are quite similar, they do not have everything in
common. For example the Islamic religion prays five times a day, travels all the way to Mecca, and

and Christians pray only a few times a day. No matter how many times they pray they are extremely

Design A Functional Prototype Of Monitoring System
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this project is to design a functional prototype of monitoring system for a security
purpose and the system use WIFI as a transmission medium.
Standard monitoring systems such as CCTV use cable to connect from a camera to the monitoring
station. This project is intended to use a wireless transmission to transmit video from camera to
monitoring station. This project also to overcome the power supply issues of main power supply to
operate the device. The uninterruptible power supply is use as a main power supply to prevent
disturbance that may cut off the power supply.
It is important to get high quality video display on monitor and the video can be transmitting to the
monitoring station via WIFI.
1.0 PROBLEM STATEMENT
These days, most devices and applications for remote monitoring purposes are suffering with power
supply disruption and limited access of monitoring place. This is due to the place where device is
installed that far from power grid and also due to the limited control room for monitoring stations. In
that case, if there is a sudden failure in power supply, the devices will not functioning. This remote
monitoring system use a solar panel as a power input because this application base on green
technology. Green technology mean that this device not use plug n play concept but use solar panel as
a source to operate the system. The failure of the device to function will give impact to the devices
that has to recorded,

after my first two periods of class. The trip is pretty hazy due to the throbbing pain and slightly
numbing sensation in my right leg. We went in and after telling the doctor what happened, he nodded
his head. He said my concerns were founded, but probably nothing to worry about since I was walking

we went back to the examination room. The following twenty minutes seemed like hours, but the
doctor eventually returned. The look on his face relayed the message before his mouth could speak the
words. He put his hands behind his head and asked us to follow him outside the room to the light wall.

Human right is a critical topic across the world. The world started to pay more attention to this

today there are still many countries that have trouble safeguarding human rights. The same conThe
author of City Of Thorns used many rhetorical devices to convey his message. Ben s writing gives a
wonderful explanation of what was happening in these refugee camps. The use of imagery gave me
the picture of what was happening in these refugee camps. The author uses many different characters

Catechism In The Exorcist
The exorcist The exorcist is a supernatural horror drama from 1973. It is based on the novel of the
same name by William Peter Blatty. The novel is inspired by the exorcism of Roland Doe, which took
place in the late 1940s. The exorcism of Roland doe is one of the only exorcisms documented. It was
priests of the Roman Catholic Church that performed the exorcism. Later it was discovered that he
was probably just mentally ill and disturbed but it was still a good foundation for the novel. The novel
changed several details like the sex of the possessed victim and the age. When the exorcist came out in
1973 it caused panic in movie theatres. All around the U.S it created a lot of fuss. Americans lined up
to see what it was all about. People ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example they use holy water. Holy water is water blessed by the priest with solemn prayer, to beg
God s blessing on those who use it, and protection from the powers of darkness. Holy water is used by
almost every ancient faith to purify and cleanse things and therefor they used that to get the demon out
of Reagan. A crucifix also appears under Reagans pillow. According to the Catholic catechism, the
crucifix is a sacramental, a sacred sign And it s often used to symbolise religion in movies and books.
In the exorcist they use it to show that the demon is very unholy by letting Reagan do very unholy
things with it to say it in a nice way. The movie got a lot of critic because it is very unholy and
perverse. It s very over the top and a lot of churches were very offended when the movie came out.
Another thing they used was an Ouija board. An Ouija board is something that some believe can
create contact with the other side. And in this movie that s how the demon possesses Reagan. They
also used colour symbolism. For example Reagan was dressed in a white night gown. White
represents purity and it s a symbol of the Old Reagan that is still living

Structural Diversity In College Students
Structural diversity is the accumulation of diverse groups of individuals from different backgrounds
openness and probability to become more openly interactive with people of different groups. Open
interaction becomes limited when people begin to segregate themselves based upon factors such as
ethnic groups and socioeconomic status. The acceptance of diversity is very complex with how the
physical and nonverbal interactions allow people to prejudge, yet we have some individual who hold
that open mindset to make that step to convert what they consider an outsider to someone possible to
maintain a relationship with. The life of a high class Ivy League student may differ from the life of a
middle class community college student. The perfect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

conscious college admission policies. Within a large longitudinal data set, structural diversity is
positively related to having close interracial friendships and a different race romantic partner for
White students, and no main effects of structural diversity are apparent for Black and Hispanic
students. Moreover, structural diversity has increasingly positive effects at higher levels of campus
diversity. (Brown, 2012) These findings suggest that a college s structural diversity may notably shape
post college behaviors, attitudes, and values, which supports the rationale for considering
race/ethnicity in admissions processes. (Brown,

Italian Neorealism
Italian Neo realism Thesis
What?
It sought to deal realistically with the events leading up to the war and with their resulting social
problems. Rooted in the 1920s, it was similar to the verismo ( realism ) movement, from which it
originated, but differed in that its upsurge resulted from the intense feelings inspired by fascist
repression, the Resistance, and the war.
Italian aesthetic movement that flourished especially after World War II.
Neorealism in film embraced a documentary like objectivity; actors were often amatuers, and the
action centred on commonplace situations. Often crudely and hastily made, Neorealist productions
stood in stark contrast to traditional escapist feature films.

A year later Paisà (Italy 1946) took the process of nation building further by not only attempting to
unite different regional communities together in its six different episodes but also explicitly bringing
spaces together in the map of the Italian peninsula which gradually becomes uniformly white as the
forces of liberation are shown moving upwards along the Italian boot. It s significant, suggests Restivo
in an aside, that Rossellini doesn t end up showing the Italian boot completely whitened by the
movement of liberation but rather allows a stain to remain in the northeastern sector, approximately at
the place of Salò (Italy/France, 1975).
Nevertheless, as is well known, Neorealism itself failed and, in a sense, was destined to fail. On the
one hand its commitment to an aesthetics of reality was self defeating since Italy s millenarian
regionalism worked against the construction of anything but the most fictionalised national unity. On
the other hand the radical political openness that had existed briefly after the war which had allowed
Neorealism to project an Italy fashioned along the lines of Partisan dreams, was greatly reduced by the
1948 elections and reduced further as the Christian Democrat party consolidated its power in the early
1950s. Neorealism thus disappeared and left the representation of the fragmented real Italy, in

Analysis of Jonathan Swift´s A Modest Proposal Essay
Poverty has been a problem not only in Texas or the United States, but all over the world. Many types
of individuals have addressed this topic for years, raised money, volunteered, but still, as much as
there s said and done, the issue hasn t been fazed a bit. From Jonathan Swift s Modest Proposal, he
clarifies the poverty issued throughout Ireland in the early 1700 s and how one suggestion could
change it all. Elaborated from the Literary Reference Center, A Modest Proposal, like Gulliver s
Travels, transcends the political, social, and economic crisis that gave birth to it, woeful as they were.

As the audience continues to read The Modest Proposal, they see that maybe he isn t joking, that he
really wants to eat the babies and start a new fashion trend. To make things more believable, he states
times of the year when the babies are just right, they re not too done or underdone. Swift specifies that
the little ones fattened up would be delicacies at banquets, christenings, or any special celebration.
From the book itself, Swift states that, The skin that is left from the infants carcasses could be used for
ladies gloves and men s boots... the carcasses can be sold for a decent price to any and all. Many
kings, queens, higher lords, and upper class take this proposal as a suitable option. Some even tended
to make breeding farms for women to make scrumptious little darlings over and over again until their
time of birthing was done. Did this really happen, you say? Did it even fall through and decrease
poverty?
All in all, Swift addressed the issue in a way that no one would have thought. In the end, he wasn t
being serious about harvesting the little ones and digesting them, but simply letting everyone open
their eyes and see what was going around in their small community of Ireland. Some might say Swift
was sick, crazy, but he was simply genius. Using this strategic option created ways for people to set
forth and fix the problem. Just like himself,

Leadership Styles From The Point Of View
Comparative Analysis
The articles under analysis explore leadership styles from the point of view of their relation to gender
(Merchant, 2012) and personality (Yahaya et al., 2011). Merchant (2012) provides a valuable research,
which is focused on gender as the major determinant of leadership styles in individuals. Providing an
analysis of literature, Merchant (2012) indicates that many studies analyzing the intersection of gender
and influence tactics have resulted in mixed finding (p. 24). It proves the argument that gender
stereotypes play a major role in attributing particular roles for females and males on the basis of their
biological sex and what is expected of them. Whereas Merchant (2012) does not present a particular

I happened to work under both female and male leadership, and I should admit that the difference
between them is not evident everything depends on personality, and dissimilarities in influence tactics
are attributed to situational circumstances such as individual setting (Merchant, 2012, p. 26).
Personal Leadership Style
My leadership style is both Participative and Democratic, and it is influenced by the three variables
gender, personality, and age. Democratic Leader makes the final decision, only after receiving the
input and recommendations of all team members, (Goetsch, 2002). I focus on getting to the bottom of
the problem with working through it.
Effect of Gender
Though gender is a contradictory variable in affecting leadership styles, I should note that gender does
play an important role in the way I influence other people. In this aspect, I should agree with Merchant
(2012), who indicate, women value cooperation [...] and have a less clear focus on where the
boundaries of their friendships end and their individual identities begin (p. 18). As a female, I feel I
have to work harder than a male doing the same job. Even though, I feel that I have to work harder
than a man, I also think that it s not always about your gender, but how a person is a leader. Kanter,
argues that males and females who occupy the same organizational role theoretically differ very

Stump s Account Of Love
Love Sumps account of Love. Stump begins her discussion on the nature of love by firstly making it
known that she will be using Aquinas account. Stump is a notable Aquinas scholar and this is
important to know as she goes on to contrast his view with more contemporary ones. I will analyze her
arguments and discussions as to why she is correct in offering Aquinas account as the best that we
have available to us. I will mainly focus on her telling of Aquinas account of love and will contrast it
with what she writes about Kolodny s and the other accounts that she mentions in her chapter..
Stump begins by talking about the responsiveness account of love: On one account, love is a response
of the lover to qualities he perceives and values in the beloved. On this way of thinking about love,
there are intrinsic characteristics of the beloved person that are especially attractive to the lover, whose
love is engendered in him by these characteristics. So there is a reason for the love the lover has for
his beloved, and that is the set of characteristics that the lover finds so valuable in the beloved (Stump

The intrinsic qualities that Stump mentions here are those that one person will value in the ... Show

nonrelational feature that she has. We see from this statement that is is suggested the Kolodny s reason
for loving someone has more to do with the relationship with the beloved. It is stated that relationship
is due to past encounters and interactions that fosters the love for someone. Kolodny offers his
explanation on his account for love by giving the

In 1939, Vietnam was part of a French indo china. This area was Laous, Cambodia and Vietnam. This
area was all part of the French empire in the 19th century. The French colonial rule was barely resisted
by the people of Vietnam but this harsh rule led to growing anti colonial feeling. Working conditions

The only resistance to this Japanese rule was the Vietminh. The aim of this organisation was to
establish an independent and free Vietnam that was not under control of any foreign power. This
meant a fight against the French and the Japanese. This rule was formed by Ho Chi Minh in 1941.
Throughout the war, they attacked the French. Support grew in 1942 and 1943 but by 1944, they were
strong enough to attack the two French out posts.
In 1945, the Japanese finally over threw the French government and started to control the towns,
leaving country areas alone. This allowed the communists to build up support in those areas. Quite
soon afterwards, they defeated the Japanese and the war was over. After dropping atomic bombs on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the people of Vietnam planned an uprising. In September 1945, the
Vietnamese went to Haiphong. Ho Chi Minh declared independence. In October 1946, the French
forced the communists out of the south and took over Haiphong in the north. Then the indo Chinese

The Chinese Traditional Culture Influences On The Outdoor...
2.1.2. The Chinese Traditional Culture influences on the Outdoor Leisure and the Nature
As for the definition of nature , western definition of nature is in its literal meanings embodied in
wildness e.g. natural landscape and wild things, which is intact from human interventions, while
unlike Western culture s definition of nature, Chinese traditional culture emphasizes the coexistence
between human and nature.
Leisure (xiu xian) in the ancient Chinese study will uncover the relationship between ancient Chinese
and their relationships with nature. Chinese xiuxian would be the most appropriate explanation for the
western word leisure, the characters of Xiu and Xian (休,闲) from its literally speaking that they
represent the ancient Chinese understandings for the nature ( people rest beneath the tree), only
through nature could human being rest and relax.
The concept of leisure also contains harmonious relationships between human beings and nature, with
humans being considered part of nature. Thus, the nature should not be offended by human beings, but
we should take the reverence and references or clues from nature to be natural. Going through ancient
history, the Chinese ancestors used the term Tian di (heavens and the earth) to mean nature and treated
them as divine. The earth receives the seeds of the five grains and cares for the six domestic animals,
enabling people to live in abundance, while the heavens bestow sunlight and rain, as well as the cyclic

How Economic Globalization Has Fostered Globalization of...
I. INTRODUCTION
The concept of globalization is one of the most talked about terms over the past decades. In fact, it is a
highly popular buzzword that admittedly lacks a standard or commonly agreed upon definition.
(Trebilcock, 2000). The concept of economic globalization stemmed from the root concept of
globalization and by definition, pertains to that specific attribute of globalization that refers to the
process of integration between the economic front and the developed , under developed and
developing economies (Naik, 2011). Economic globalization essentially comes together through
international trade, FDIs (foreign direct investments) and the like (Naik, 2011).

This is precisely the reason why the critics could not help but compare the unequal effects of
economic globalization among the developing and developed countries.
In this research paper, we will explore the process as to how the so called economic globalization
phenomenon has fostered a globalization of critics and criticism. In this research paper, we will tackle
the definition of economic globalization and its implications and how it has allegedly brought about
and triggered the rise of a number of critics. This research paper will also identify the specific
criticisms that critics have previously cited and identified with regard to the economic globalization
phenomenon. The main objective of this research paper is to provide evidence as to how the
emergence of globalization of critics and criticism was a direct by product of economic globalization.
Hence, in line with this main objective, this research paper will directly answer the research question:
How did economic globalization foster globalization of critics and criticism?

Prejudice And Stereotypes
Prejudice is a hostile or negative attitude toward people in a distinguishable group. We can all be
affected by prejudice for the things that make us different from one another. Our brain naturally puts
people into different categories, and the differences can influence our preference of them. When we
put people in different categories, we often make assumptions about these categories based off of their
differences. Schemas are a mental shortcut that allows us to think about something faster. As we are
growing up, we are making a ton of schemas for everything, including groups of people. A stereotype
can be a schema because they think of a group of people as something and easily associate the
characteristics and the group of people. These assumptions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Soon, everytime Rosa speaks to you, she speaks loudly because she assumes you cannot hear her from

also the issue of stereotype, this is in which victims are concerned that if they follow a common
stereotype about them, they are confirming it and not helping the situation, making it worse. For
example, in my experience, because I am Hispanic, people assume that I really like spicy food.
Sometimes, I feel that I should express how much I like spicy food because I worry that it just
confirms people s stereotypes about Hispanic people so I am tempted to act unlike myself and lie in
order for them to believe differently. Stereotype threat can also affect victims because they are

The last name of the director of the 1988 science fiction horror film They Live is fitting. Carpenter.
John Carpenter wrote and directed this underappreciated movie, and his last name is fitting because
They Live is clearly inspired by the writings of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels philosophers
primarily concerned about the working man, which, of course, includes carpenters. The basic premise
of this film is that aliens have secretly infiltrated society and actually make up much of the upper
class. These nefarious extraterrestrials have shaped society by facilitating those changes most
favorable to their ends, which is to use up the earth s resources and terraform the planet so that it is

However, in the film, the proletariat is expanded to include not just the working class but anyone who
does not belong to the upper class; the concentration of wealth that Marx and Engels warn against in
their Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 is illustrated in a number of scenes that display
humans as struggling to make ends meet while alien imposters almost exclusively enjoy a privileged
existence. (The qualifier almost exclusively is used because a small number of human co conspirators
are also granted entry into the upper class.) For instance, the film begins with the main protagonist,
John Nada, homeless and encountering numerous obstacles in his search for employment; at a state
unemployment office, Nada is told that no jobs are currently available to him, and when he approaches
a foreman about construction work, he is informed in an overtly dismissive tone that the project is a
union job (Carpenter). Another early scene shows two businessmen one human and one alien
discussing recent promotions; the alien received a promotion and placates the stressed human
businessman who did not and who doubts that a promotion is in his near future. Unbeknownst to the
human, his disguised peer belongs to the upper class while he does not. In this dejected businessman,

Analysis Of The Book For The Sake Of Posterity
Einhard, a German raised in the Carolingian court of Charlemagne wrote a vita as a tribute to his king
around 825 826 called The Life of Charlemagne after the kings death. He wrote this book either at
Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of his numerous properties throughout the Frankish
kingdom. Based on the didactic nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that the book is for
the sake of posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book concerning the
life of King Charlemagne to be used by further generations or, more likely based on the type of
information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as Louis on how to be a good and
proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised Charlemagne. Einhard was the foster son of
Louis father, Charlemagne, and it appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual father figure to
set an example for Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers of the time knew
that they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a way to communicate
his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about his contempt for Louis and his
behaviour. The careful courtier Einhard, while writing The Life of Charlemagne tried to make
Charlemagne appear to be a strong leader as well as a friendly person in general but, flattery aside, his
writing suggests that Charlemagne was in fact controlling, relentless, ferocious, and aggressive.

Difference In Development Of The New England And...
Colonial DBQ
Although New England, primarily Massachusetts, and the Chesapeake region, primarily Virginia,
were largely settled by people of English origins, by 1700 these regions had evolved into two distinct
societies. The difference in development occurred for the following three reasons, the motives of the
settlers, the people that settled there and the geography of the respective regions.
One of the most important differences in development for the New England and Chesapeake regions
was the motives of the settlers. The colonists who founded Massachusetts, the Puritans, a reformist
Christian group, largely settled there for religious reasons. The Puritans, led by John Winthrop, wanted
to create a model religious community. The central idea of Puritan Massachusetts is summarized by
John Winthrop when he says We must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. (Doc. A) One of
the most important staples of this community was the idea that God was the focus of life no matter
what. (Doc. E) In contrast, the colonists who established communities in Virginia settled there with

broke out on the ship sailing to the New World. (Doc. F) Bacon s Rebellion in 1676 further
exemplifies the idea that the colonists from Virginia were very selfish. Bacon s Rebellion was the
uprising of the indentured servants in Virginia due to the unfair treatment they received by the
wealthy. Bacon s argument was that the rich elite had made their money at the expense of everyone

Multiculturalism In Music Essay
Visualize in your head a rock band, and a rapper. What kind of clothes are they wearing. What lyric
styles are they singing in? And what color are they? Ongoing stereotypes suggest that the rock band is
a group of white musicians and the rapper would be black. However, examples from the past and
present shows that these stereotypes are untrue. Music is defined as The art of organizing tones to
produce a coherent sequence of sounds to elicit an aesthetic response in a listener (Morris, 864). This
country s youth is unlike any others, we have much control over what we do, and music is something
that evolves around all of us. In this essay, I will discuss the evolution of youth music ranging from
early rock, to today s hip hop stars, from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It gave them a feeling of freedom and joy that had been lacking from previous music styles. Although
rock became an instant hit with the youth, the music caused displeasure in the adult world. Rock was
criticized for juvenile delinquency to loosened sexual standards (R amp;RG, 27). The most notorious
example of what adults didn t like in rock music can be found in Elvis Presley. Elvis was the first
white performer to expose an audience to rock music. However, the free will style Elvis exhibited was
not a real big hit with the adults, where he was condemned as a whirling dervish of sex.
Rock music then went on a tear, evolving into many different styles and forms. As rock matured and
diversified, many new artists and distinct styles emerged. Such examples are blues, featured by B.B.
King and Ruth Brown. Harmonious styles such as The Orioles, the energetic swing sounds of Little
Richard, the role model rock star Pat Boone, and the folk rock of the Everly Brothers. Rock usually
evolved to what was happening in the world during that time period, such as war, politics, current
events, and lifestyles. Another aspect that evolved rock music was technology. As more and more
technology was developed, more integrated sounds were brought into rock, eventually resulting into
such music as pop and disco. Music was now able to have artificial beats that traditional instruments
could not produce. This new form of

Comparing Morpheus And Neo In The Film The Matrix
By the time the original 1999 film The Matrix came out in theaters, film critics and moviegoers were
fascinated by the unique style of the film which complimented the story and development of the main
character Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, through his changing sense of fashion, from simple t shirts he
sleeps in to long elegant coats which cloak new found abilities.
When we first meet Neo, his clothing emulates his position in life and his attitude towards it. Before
he begins his journey through the rabbit hole, Neo is Thomas A. Anderson, a computer programmer at
a conventional company where he works amongst hundreds of dull cubicles, forcing him to get extra
money and express his ignored talents through his secret life as a computer hacker. ... Show more

As he enters the skyscraper in which Morpheus is captured, Neo s clothing and stance shows how far
he has come in his training and maturity as it matches Trinity s style while also being its own design.
Under his long black coat, which resembles Trinity s, Neo wears a tight, long sleeve t shirt which
highlight his newfound muscles while also acting as a stark contrast to the baggy, short sleeved t shirts
he used to wear as a hacker. What really emphasizes his character growth is how Reeves has changed
Neo s stance and makeup, standing straighter and holding his head high. Instead of crouching in the
background with sweat in his hair and hiding behind a suit that makes him look small, Neo stands tall
in a open coat that reveals his clean cut hairdo, clear skin and weaponry, revealing his new found
confidence and

The bank not only accepted deposits and provided financial services to its clients but also traded on its own account. Over the years it became quite successful and in 1980 it set up brokerage operations in Japan. Soon after, it expanded its operations to include a handful of other Asian countries and in 1992 it activated its seat on the SIMEX (Singapore International Monetary Exchange) with Nick Leeson as general manager. However, Leeson used his position to engage in both fraudulent behavior and risky speculation on futures and options, and ended up losing £1.4 billion of the funds capital, which finally caused the bank s insolvency in 1995. • 3. The Negative Impacts Of Financialization History shows that financialization has not only touched the United States, but has been a part of the cycle of economies throughout time. It affected Spain in the 1300s as well as England in the 1800s and 1900s. The definitions of financialization are many. One definition says that with regard to the operation of the economy, it has to do with the increasing importance of financial markets, motives, institutions, and elites (Assa 2012). Adam Smith defined it as the growing scale and profitability of the finance sector at the expense of the rest of the economy and the shrinking regulation of its rules and returns (Collins 2015). It has also been said that in addition to its influence over the economy, its reach extends to other societal institutions such as government (Gautam 2014). The literature on financialization written in the last few decades highlights negative impacts on both the real and financial sides of the economy (Assa 2012). According to Palley (2007), financialization causes economies to slow their growth and become fragile with a very real potential outcome being recession. When the financial sector has more power, it takes precedence over the real sector. It takes money from the real sector and gives it to the financial sector resulting in huge wage disparities and stagnation in the real sector. The effects on those outside of the financial sector have been great. Household debt to income ratios have increased, as have corporate debt to equity ratios ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reflection Paper On Endometriosis Endometriosis, if not diagnosed in time, could be a fatal disease that could lead to cancer. January 2003, was the day I received the devastating news that would change my life forever. My gynecologist informed me that I was eat up with Endometriosis and had no choice but to accept a complete hysterectomy. No one knows my body like me, so I knew that something was amiss when I was having menstrual cycles that just did not seem normal, not to mention the excruciating pain that I received every month along with it. I have performed a great deal of research and along with my personal story with Endometriosis, this is what I found. Living with The Effects of Endometriosis In 2002, I met my husband and as time went on, we decided that we would do whatever it took to have another baby. For most couples, it has been just a matter of the conception part of it. It was not going to be that easy for us because I had already had my tubes cut and burned so they said. However, we were not going to let that stop us. As time went on I had started doing research on the process that we would have to go through to make this dream come true. There were many trips back and forth to the doctor s office. Depo shots that cost around $1800 and still, before we knew it, I was having laparoscopic surgery done to what we thought would get rid of the Endometriosis. We just knew that it would be all it would take to fix everything. Each time I had it done, it came back worse than before. After 3 times, once a month, it was time to give up and get the bad news. When the final test results came back from the last surgery, my doctor called to tell me that I needed to go to her office so she could go over the results with me. I was scared, but yet, excited. The news I got was forever life changing, she told me that at this point, my insides looked like a spider had been inside of me and webbed all of my female organs together and she had done all she knew to do and now it has come down to 2 choices, I could have a complete hysterectomy, or die. On February 5th, 2003, I went in for surgery at the Moore Regional Medical Center. Not thinking about the fact that it would send me into instant menopause, it was nothing but misery for ... • 5. Population Overpopulation The Earth is currently 4.54 billion years old, holding about 332,500,000 cubic miles of water, an estimate of 8.7 billion mammals, and close to 7 billion humans. The modern humans, evolved from archaic humans, have been roaming the Earth for about 17,000 years. Over the last fifty years, human population grew faster than it has ever before. In the 1960s, the world population was at about 3 billion people, increasing to an estimate of 6 billion people by 1999. The expected growth of world population from 6 billion people in 1999 is about 9 billion people by 2044, causing the world to become overpopulated. The word population causes many different reactions and thoughts. For example, it stimulates anger because of irresponsible procreation, insufficient funding for birth control methods, and religion for being against contraception and abortion. The reason that anger is one of the main reactions is that many are aware of how population growth can damage the Earth and affect the future. To reduce the population growth rates, there should be a worldwide, two child policy for every couple during the process of establishing basic education because research has shown the positive effects of China s one child policy, how Earth s resources are decreasing, and how overpopulation has negatively affected the environment. By establishing a two child policy for every couple, there could be many positive results, such as the results that came from China s one child policy. According ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Lack Of Accessibility Of The American Dream Imagine living in a perfect world where people can do what they want with their life; a world without discrimination, where art is just as important as math. Well, it s not going to happen. At least not in the next century. The lack of accessibility of the American dream is especially apparent in the essay by Kesaya Noda, The Four Freedoms by Franklin Roosevelt, Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and an excerpt from The Newsroom . The American dream is inaccessible to the majority of people in America. In the story, a hyphenated American, a Japanese American girl is segregated due To her race: I can see myself today as a person historically defined by law and custom as being forever alien. Being neither free white, nor African, our people in California were deemed aliens, ineligible for citizenship no matter how long the intended to stay here. Aliens ineligible for citizenship were prohibited from owning, buying, or leasing land (Noda). Due to the stereotypes and racism caused by being a minority in America, she is limited in what she can do and therefore cannot achieve what is perceived to be the American dream. Noda expresses how her parents were discriminated against, how they never had the opportunity to achieve the American dream because other people didn t view them as equals when she says our parents were painted as hard workers who were socially uncomfortable and had difficulty expressing even the smallest opinion. Clean, quiet, motivated, and determined to match the American way; that is us, and that is the story of our time here (Noda). Nobody saw her parents as fellow humans and because of it, they didn t even have a chance at living the American dream. What is the American dream? The American dream is what the founding fathers wanted for our country. That perfect life where nobody had to worry about personal and economical safety. When Franklin Roosevelt wrote The Four Freedoms , the American dream is what he was writing about. In his article, Roosevelt states the basic things expected in America: Equality of opportunity for youth and others. Jobs for those who can work. Security for those who need it. • 9. Essay on Digital Steerable Line Array Loudspeakers and Line Arrays play a vital role in live sound reinforcement. The main goal of line arrays is to evenly distribute the full range of frequencies and loudness of the performance to the audience, no matter where the people are standing. Stage hands and audio technicians work together before a live performance in order to achieve the optimum sound quality for the audience s satisfaction during their experience of the live event. Typically, traditional line arrays are set up by technicians on ground level. While ICONYX is supposedly one of, if not the first of its kind, Renkus Heinz is not the only company to develop digitally steerable speakers. Martin Audio s version of digitally controlled line arrays is called the Multi Cellular Loudspeaker Array or MLA. Aesthetically, the MLA is more like the line arrays flown on big concerts and stadiums most people are familiar with. Simply put, by using the provided software, the specifications of venues or audience space is detected and analyzed by the array itself. Additionally, each of the 72 to 144 cells or parts of the line array is capable of having its own phase, level, and EQ individually and independently set. All of this is controlled electronically, by further use of digital signal processing. Due to the sheer amount of moving components, the MLA has the ability to constantly change its directionality and arrangement in order to adjust the loudspeakers coverage, or accommodate to weather changes, or rigging height modifications; in real time. After developing the foundation for our task, we reviewed and discussed the facts of the Nolan Ryan case to prepare for presenting our initial standpoint on the case. Everyone in the group shared their initial decision and why they thought it was both ethical and effective. Of the seven people in our group, four people thought Brian should keep the card and three people thought that Brian should give the card back. Introduction With the proliferation of fracking in the United States and its impact on so many different aspects of society from environmental to health and economic impact, it is an important topic that demands more research and along with more community awareness. Another aspect of fracking that is discussed much less than the environmental and public health aspects is that the people that benefit most from the fracking industry usually white affluent individuals do not live in the area that drilling process or waste disposal process happens (Johnston, J. j., Werder, E., Sebastian, D. (2016). It is also important to keep in mind how the elites of society are able to mold and manipulate public opinion to suit their needs (Davis, C., Fisk, J. M. (2014). It has been shown how persistent opinions from elites and media messages can sway public opinion in whichever direction they choose (Davis, C., Fisk, J. M. (2014). This paper demonstrates how the fracking industry not only poisons the environment it poisons communities through creating conflict and negative public health issues. Methods In their research review Charles Davis and Jonathan Fisk (2014) set out to examine public attitudes about the fracking industry, they based their findings on analysis of survey data of 2400 American adults. Nevertheless, in Bier s In a Better World, family members in the two families are supposed to have close kinship, especially between direct relatives. However, in Elias s family, his father and mother are arguing for a divorce, and lacking in father s companion, he had a tense relationship with his mother. In Christian s family, the mother died from cancer, and Christian is angry with his father because he lied to him and promised his mom could get well soon. The conflicts between them are ambiguous at first, and then the emotion burst out with the development of the plot. Finally, the film ends with the recovery of harmonious kinship in these two families. Similar to Hui, Bier also takes the approach of using details to imply the plots. For example, when Claus are collecting the old photos, he paused when finding out a photo of his wife without her hair. Without saying a word, this scene delivers a message of the reason of the death of Christian s mom to the audience. However, apart from filming details, Bier also exaggerates the conflicts by recording the furious fighting between Claus and Christian when Claus found Christian s knife. The novel is inspired by the exorcism of Roland Doe, which took place in the late 1940s. The exorcism of Roland doe is one of the only exorcisms documented. It was priests of the Roman Catholic Church that performed the exorcism. Later it was discovered that he was probably just mentally ill and disturbed but it was still a good foundation for the novel. The Chinese Traditional Culture influences on the Outdoor Leisure and the Nature As for the definition of nature , western definition of nature is in its literal meanings embodied in wildness e.g. natural landscape and wild things, which is intact from human interventions, while unlike Western culture s definition of nature, Chinese traditional culture emphasizes the coexistence between human and nature. Leisure (xiu xian) in the ancient Chinese study will uncover the relationship between ancient Chinese and their relationships with nature. Chinese xiuxian would be the most appropriate explanation for the western word leisure, the characters of Xiu and Xian (休,闲) from its literally speaking that they represent the ancient Chinese understandings for the nature ( people rest beneath the tree), only through nature could human being rest and relax. The concept of leisure also contains harmonious relationships between human beings and nature, with humans being considered part of nature. Thus, the nature should not be offended by human beings, but we should take the reverence and references or clues from nature to be natural. Going through ancient history, the Chinese ancestors used the term Tian di (heavens and the earth) to mean nature and treated them as divine. He wrote this book either at Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of his numerous properties throughout the Frankish kingdom. Based on the didactic nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that the book is for the sake of posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book concerning the life of King Charlemagne to be used by further generations or, more likely based on the type of information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as Louis on how to be a good and proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised Charlemagne. Einhard was the foster son of Louis father, Charlemagne, and it appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual father figure to set an example for Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers of the time knew that they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a way to communicate his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about his contempt for Louis and his behaviour.
