Globalization And The European Union
There are in some areas of globalization that can cause drawbacks, which were made prevalent with
the European Union. The main drawback within the European Union was its economy. If one
country within the organization were to have economic crisis then that country would affect all
other country members. This was made clear in 2010 with the economic crisis presented in Greece.
Many other countries within the Union were left to bail out the Greece economy; which in turn,
hurt their own economies. The situation with Greece and the other European Unionmembers is still
a current issue; however, Union members say that they will continue to contribute to struggling
economies. The world will continue to globalize businesses, economies, and... Show more content

As of 2012, only seventeen of members of the European Union have decided to use Euros as their
currency. In order for the members that adopted the Euro as their currency to successfully help their
economic problems, the Eurozone members had to follow strict instructions put into place the
European Union. The strict policies included strict control over inflation, government debt, and
long term interest rates (Mckee 525). The union put these strict policies into place to give the union
the tools that it needed to take in order to help fix the economic crisis in each country participating
in the Eurozone. Without the full cooperation of each country, it could cause the plans to fix the
economic crisis within each country to fail because of the different interests by each individual
country.
Addressing some issues, the European Union decided to issue 750 million Euros in order to start
the process of financial stability for the whole union (Mckee 524). Over time, the union learned that
that the amount of money was not enough in order to help each countries individual financial
crisis. As of now, the union has to increase the amount of money they are feeding to countries in
hopes of fixing the economic issues. The continuing issue with the European Union s economic
plans is finding the money to keep funding countries with low economic growth. Furthermore, the
union also has to figure out how to deal with the issues that are outside of the European Union s
borders. In

A Sphere Poem
In his 2006 collection, District and Circle , Seamus Heaney responds to the ever changing and
developing world around him. To do so he often relies upon the exploration of the past, memory,
and personal identity through the use of language. In the second poem of District and Circle , A
Shiver , Seamus Heaney is dependent upon these concepts to construct a thematically rich poem.
Heaney s A Shiver utilises language to explore the themes of the past, memory, and personal
identity. The Petrarchan sonnetdescribes the action of wielding a tool: the energy that is associated
with it, as well as an understanding of the destructive power that it wields: the way you had to stand
to swing the sledge . By using a Petrarchan sonnet Heaney introduces the concept of the past within
his poetry, due to the historical context of the Renaissance style of writing. The description of the
tool, in past tense and therefore illuminating Heaney s fascination of the past, ultimately leads to a
metaphor in regards to what occurs when strength, and therefore power, falls into the wrong hands.
The tool that is used within A Shiver to demonstrate this power is a sledgehammer most commonly
used by labourers as a way to demolish material items and it is implied that Heaney himself has
operated the sledgehammer and is, almost, frightened by its power. This can then be contributed to
the overall metaphor of misused power. This metaphor also demonstrates Heaney s personal
narrative voice within

How Dow Chemical Could Benefit From The Acquisition Of Dupont
Acquisitions and mergers is the growth strategy of many companies today. Sometime a company
may decide to buy shares in another company while other times a company may decide to acquire
the whole company. This paper discusses how Dow Chemical could benefit from the acquisition of
DuPont. It will also cover the various accounting methods used.
Introduction to Dow Chemical and DuPont Dow Chemical was founded in 1897 and became
incorporated in 1947. Dow Chemical is an integrated science and technology company which

agriculture sales are outside the United States. DuPont is one of Dow s major competitors
worldwide and is the second largest chemical company in the United States [E I du Pont, 2015]
and [Investor Relations, 2015]. DuPont has been facing several challenges over the past year. A
recent Wall Street Journal article outlines the challenges DuPont is dealing with as a decline in
sales and disagreements amongst shareholders. DuPont is blaming much of their troubles on the
increase value of the U.S. dollar and foreign currency translations. Shareholders believe that now is
the time to streamline their processes and spin off DuPont into 4 different companies [DuPont
Forecast, 2015]. Financial Statements retrieved from Market Watch support the articles claim that
DuPont sales are declining. DuPont has seen their sales growth decline to a negative 2.87% and
their cost of goods sold growth decline to a negative 16.65% [DuPont Financial, 2015].
Dow s Strategic Plan Dow Chemical is known best for acquiring other companies. In October,
2014 Dow formed a joint venture with Univation Technologies, LLC by purchasing ExxonMobil s
shares of this company. Exxon Mobile is also a major competitor of Dow. Acquisitions have
allowed Dow Chemical to diversify their product line and

Essay On Safe Haven Law
The Nebraska man who abandoned his nine children under the state s Safe Haven law last year
is expecting to become the father of twins Gary Staton has 37years old, became a single father in
February 2007 when his wife, Rebel Jane, died of a cerebral aneurysm shortly after giving birth to
the couple s ninth child. Unable to handle the burden alone, Staton made national news more than
a year later on Sept. 24 when he dropped off his children ages 1 to 17 at a hospital in Omaha. Even
though many people thing that is a crime, I agree with the infantsafe haven law because provide to
parents who are incapable to care the child a safe place to life and many children s are abandonate.
Safe haven laws allow the mother of a newborn infant the opportunity to surrender the child to
state custody without the fear of criminal charges or other legal entanglements. By making sure
that there are safe places for new mothers to go when they know that they cannot care for an
infant, the lives of many babies have been saved. Since every state has a version of the safe haven
law, it s important for any woman who is pregnant to know about this option.

Cosmetic Surgery Should Be Banned
Cosmetic surgery should be banned. Do you have one thing you would like to change about
your appearance? I would guess the answer is yes. People nowadays, especially women, are
consumed with their appearance. Many strive to conform to what society views as the perfect
body image and this can make people extremely insecure about the way they look. They think
that cosmetic surgery will solve this it doesn t. In fact, cosmetic surgery only enhances the need
to look beautiful and can lead to many consequences including addiction, mental illness and even
death. You may believe cosmetic surgery can help people with mental illnesses such as body
dysmorphia. However, it only acts as a plaster, hiding a much deeper problem. Providing surgery
to patients with low body confidence can lead to them craving more and more to satisfy their
needs, consequently creating a vicious circle of addiction. Cosmetic surgery can morph these type
of patients into completely different people, making them look almost unrecognisable. Imagine
looking in the mirror and not seeing yourself, but instead seeing another person, camouflaged by
the plastic injected into their face an irreversible procedure. Was it really worth it? After a recent
study in 2013 by professionals on patients mental health before and after cosmetic surgery,
psychiatrists discovered a correlation between cosmetic surgery and increased mental health issues,

U.s. Federal Law Enforcement Agencies
Terrorism has always existed in American policing, and while the groups committing these acts
have changed, their intentions have not. Their intentions being to cause maximum fear and
scare those who they target into doing and following their ideology. In the 1970 s and 1980 s in
America, the main terrorist groups were associated with the environmental movement and race
based groups, while other parts of the world were dealing with Islamic extremists, were
committing terrorist acts across the Middle East without much intervention from the United
States. In fact the group Al Qaeda, who attacked the World Trade Centers in 1993 and 2001,
found its roots in the 1980 s fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan with weapons supplied by
the Central Intelligence Agency. While the U.S. Federal Law Enforcement agencies knew of
these groups, they underestimated the capabilities of lone wolf, small cell, and whole terrorist
organizations. This was due to the fact that the Federal Law Enforcement agencies top priority
was general crime such as organized crimes and white collar crime. In the 1900 s and early 2000
s a series of events would bring a change in priorities for Federal Law Enforcement, namely the
Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), which was on the brink of being dissolved. The Inspector
General s 2003 report stated that prior to 9/11, the Bureau devoted significantly more special agent
resources to traditional law enforcement activities such as white collar crime,

Compare And Contrast Essay Good Vs Evil
Good vs. Evil There are numerous things that citizens of this world are afraid of. A huge
example is public speaking. Getting up in front of many peers, friends, advisors, and role models
can intimidate, frighten, or discourage us in many different ways. The fear that others will judge
or think less of us is scary and can be a gigantic blow to our pride. Often times, feelings of anxiety
join the scene, making the situation as terrible as it can possibly be. Many of these feelings that
have been mentioned contribute to the reason why humans like to stay in their comfort zones and
do the things that they have always done, for fearthat people may judge them, or they might fail.
Another common fear that people have is dying. For many religiously active people, this topic is
the least of their worries, but for others, they can t help but worry about what will become of them
once they leave this earth. Will they be remembered for how amazing and confident they were?
Will people feel a rush of relief and happiness because they... Show more content on

During funerals, relatives and close friends of the person who has perished usually speak about
or discuss the things that they accomplished in their lives. They focus on the highs in their life
and the great moments that took place during their peaks. For example, if a teenager died in an
unexpected car accident, their mom would undoubtedly talk about how awesome a child they
were, how blessed they were as a parent, and how much they re going to miss them in the future.
The sins that we have committed in our lives are forgotten and people tend to focus on the bright
sides of our lives. Part of the reason for this is empathy, and the fact that, as humans, we have all
sinned at some point in our lives or another. Nonetheless, it cannot be denied that the deaths of
modern people are remembered in a cheerful or optimistic

He was drafted third overall in the NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls. When he entered the NBA,
the Bulls were one of the worst teams in the NBA. As a rookie, Jordan turned the Bulls into a
playoff team. Michael far exceeded anything imagined. Jordan instantly established himself as a
first rate scorer who could rebound, pass, and play ferocious defense (Minsky 110). For his
unbelievable season, Jordan was awarded the NBA Rookie of the Year. In the next season, the
Bulls made the playoffs again, even with Michael sidelined for sixty games with a broken foot.
In the playoffs, Jordan was cleared to play five minutes, but ended up playing a lot more than
that. He set a playoff record with sixty three points in a game, and he amazingly did this while
he was just getting over a broken foot. His victory was all the more sweet for the adversity he
had encountered along the way, including his annual frustration in the playoffs and the
criticism he regularly received in the media. Still, Michael s unbending passion made him a
hero to most fans (Minsky 115). This quote is saying that after he won his first NBA championship,
it was even better for everyone because of the criticism he was facing for losing in the playoffs for
a few years before that year. He would go on to win six NBA championships, five Most Valuable

It s a Wonderful Life Essay
The movie, It s a Wonderful Life, has the protagonist named George Bailey. In this story line,
God is talking to one of his angels and He tells this angel that his job is to prevent this man from

To me, it really seem idiotic taking my life away for just $8,000, but that is just my perception on
viewing things. Everyone has a different perception upon a subject, and George Bailey is
frustrated and he feels like he has no other option. When people are scared, depressed and mad,
they have a tendency of thinking irrational and therefore make careless choices. George Bailey s
careless choice is wanting to take his life away. Emotion also plays a very significant role in the
movie. When George Bailey s guardian angel makes it so that George was never born, he gets to
see how the people and the town are really affected by his nonexistence. Seeing that his wife
Mary does not have a happy life and that his old boss went to prison for putting drugs in those
capsules that he could have prevented if he was alive, is really emotional to him and he feels
heartbroken. He notices that the once before Bailey Park is now Potterville, and all the decent
houses that were built there are now old slums and people are in poverty due to Mr. Potter s lack
of emotion and kindness. George witnesses all these catastrophic changes and it pains him to see
so much suffering that he could have prevented. George Bailey is a kind man, and his emotional
feelings tell him that in fact he does not want to die. He realizes that whatever problems that he is
having can be fixed and that the world is not coming to an end just for $8,000. Seeing everyone s

Personality And Theory Of Personality Essay
Personality Examined
Personality is deeply complexing subject that cannot be easily summed up. There is no concrete
right answer, or only one way to evaluate any given subject, as every aspect of personality has more
than one view point or angle. Famous psychologists such as Freud, Adler, Jung, Erickson, Eysenck,
and Skinner all shaped and conducted the research that would come together and be taught to
generations as the foundations of personality and the theory of personality. To better understand the
idea of personality, we are going to examine the six different cornerstones of personality. They
consist of Nature versus Nurture, The Unconscious, You of the Self, Development, Motivation and
Maturation. In this, no one theory is more valid than the other, and no one research has more
validity than the other. In this paper each cornerstone will be examined using scholarly research.
Foundations of Personality
Nature Versus Nurture Before the concept of nature versus nurture can be broken down and
examined, first there must be a proper understanding of both terms. In context of nature versus
nurture, nature refers to a person s biological factors, such as the hereditary factors passed down
from the genes of their birth parents. Whereas nurture refers to an individual s personal experience
and environment that shapes them into who they are, and gave them a form of identity. Montag et
al (2016), work suggests that while in some cases nurture can be an influence on

Why do authors write dystopian fiction? Authors write dystopian fiction so they can warn us about

structures in a dark, nightmare world. The term dystopia is defined as a society characterized by
poverty, squalor or oppression and the theme is most commonly used in science fiction and
speculative fiction genres (www.questia.com). In this essay I will be writing about how, it often has

If you watch close, history does nothing but repeat itself.
What we call chaos is just patterns we haven t recognized. (Chuck Palahniuk, Survivor). This quote
is linked to my reason, because it tells you straight up that history is just patterns and cahs is history
coming back to haunt us. Although history has a reputation for repeating itself, some people also
believe you can t predict the future.
Many people believe you can t predict the future. People look at it like, somebody can just one
day say the world is going to end tomorrow and wake up dead the next morning. That doesn t
happen! Yes this is true, but however, You can predict the future. Yes I agree that somebody just
can t show up to work today and say the world is going to end tomorrow, just s they can get paid
leave tomorrow. It takes science, you look at history and compare that to current events.
Sometimes you can even do it through your dreams. Prophetic dreams, also called precognitive
dreams, do not occur much, if at all, so you will have to be vigilant when it comes to remembering
and reading your dreams (wikihow.com)This quote proves my rebuttal, because Prophetic dreams
are dreams that predict the future, but you are lucky if you even have one, but if you do, then you
don t get them very often. So now that you know that the future is predictable, did you also know

House Of Tudor Research Paper
Imagine you were royalty. You got to eat fancy dinners, were pampered, and was waited on hand
and foot. This is how it was for the House of Tudor in 16th Century England. The people included
in this royal family are Henry VIII, Edward I, Lady Jane Grey, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. The
House of Tudor, the ruling family of 16th Century England, was an influential ruling family
whether it was positive or negative, most of the time it was negative though. Tudor history is
complicated with many interwoven stories. Owen Tudor is the first of the known Tudors. He
was a welsh adventurer; he fought in a war where Henry V was beheaded. Owen married Henry V
s widow, Catherine of Valois. They had a kid named Edmund who married a girl named Margaret.

The first ruler after Henry VIII died was his son, Edward VII. He was a child when he was
crowned at Westminster. Henry VIII tried not to crown Edward as a child, but he failed.
Edward was very close with his stepmother, Katherine Parr, Elizabeth, his sister, and Mary, his
other sister. Edward made many protestant laws during his rule. When Edward died he didn t
want Mary I to rule so he made his cousin, Lady Jane Grey, ruler. Lady Jane Grey was the second
ruler of England. Lady Jane Grey was made queen but only ruled for nine days. She is also
known as the nine day queen. Jane married Guildford Dudley as a child. The Dudleys knew
about what the king chose to do and they only had Guilford marry her so they could be royalty.
After Jane was made queen, she realized their plan and told Guildford she would never make
him king, but only a duke. He ran out and Jane realized she had to make him king because she
had to have an heir. Mary overthrew Jane and became queen. Mary was the third ruler of kids.
Mary became ruler at age 37. She was neglected as a child because not many of Henry s wives

Henry hadn t divorced her mom. Mary also wanted to have a child so she married the prince of

Bystander Effect
The Bystander Effect
Everybody wants to be a hero and to change the world. To make it a better place and make a
difference. So why then in the face of danger do we back down? Why do we just stand by as cruel
things happen to good people. Science has coined this term as the bystander effect. The bystander
effect is defined as, a social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals
do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people are present. You can see this effect in
full in the movie, The Hunger Games, as people just stand by and let the killing of innocent
children happen year after year.
Now this might seem like a crazy idea because in you mind if someone really needed help you
would always help. This is not always the case though. In the book, No One Helped : Kitty
Genovese, New York City, and the Myth of Urban Apathy, the author, Marcia Gallo, highlights the
events that happened that lead to the understanding of the event known as the Bystander Effect. It
was because of this event, that the term bystander effect was first used and brought to light not only
to the scientific community but also to the public. March 27, 1964 Kitty Genovese ... Show more

The Purpose Of The Federal Small Business Program
Purpose of the federal small business program; include a historical aspect of the Government
regulations that created the program:
The U.S. Small Business Administration was founded on July 30, 1953, and has delivered
millions of loans, contracts, counseling sessions, loan guarantees, and other types of assistance to
small businesses. Even though SBA was formally created in 1953, its philosophy and mission
began to form years earlier in other agencies and began largely as a response to the pressures of the
Great Depression and World War II (Business
, 1988). These events caused mass hardship on the
economy, and the best way to promote it again was through small business. The Small Business
Preference Program was created to guarantee that small businesses received their fair share of
contracts for federal government services and supplies. The intent was to help strengthen the
economy by allowing small businesses to get a portion of the property government sold as well.
23% of all Federal contracting dollars must be awarded to small businesses, and specifically, 5%
to women owned small businesses. There are many different types of small businesses, and each
receives a portion of the contract the government gives. The WOSB Program became effective in
the FAR on April 1, 2011, and is one of the types of small businesses that are given preferential
treatment (SBA.gov).

Bioethics And Medical Ethics
1. ETHICS
The research work is on ethics and morality. These are often used interchangeably. Moral is from
Latin word moralis which means manners or customs. Looking at it critically ethics does not teach
how to live moral life, it merely help to clarify what is right or wrong which assists in achieving
one s goal. While moral is about purpose, intention, motive and choice which are either right or
wrong in the light of manners and customs. Morality is applied to acts and behavior while ethics is
applied to the person.
2. BIOETHICS
The research work is on bioethics and medical ethics. Bioethics is an area of philosophy that
focuses on ethical issues that comes from biomedical scientific technologies and a subfield of
ethics. Bioethics is not for philosophers alone but it is multidisciplinary in nature which makes the
field very exciting and important. Bioethicists learn from doctors and other scientist working in
research and clinic are of biomedicine. The heterogeneous nature of the contributions to this concept

other health and social care professionals, lawyers, policy makers and philosophers are involved,

surrounds all biomedical technologies like, xenotransplantation, stem cell therapy, cloning, and the
use of animal research. Medical ethics covers practical application in clinical settings as well as

Harley-Davidson Economic System
The different economic systems
There are four main classifications of the economic system: mixed economy, socialism, capitalism,
and communism.
A mixed economy is a mixture of capitalism and socialism. Personal possession of large company is
probable; there is just a higher amount of taxation on these businesses. This is common economic
structure as most established or emerging countries have implemented it, including the United
States of America. Meanwhile America has free market abilities with tolerable government
influence, as opposite to comprehensive or nonexistent intrusion, all methods of business could
grow in a sensibly modest manner.
Next would be socialism, a minor step up from communism as it identifies that most companies

Harley Davidson has succeeded in many other countries apart from America because of its
steady supply chain and desirable prices. The countries it may have failed in either already had
an inexpensive product or its supply was weakened by small commercial dealers. If Harley
Davidson did not start or spread through varied economies, it would be a totally changed company
today. If Harley Davidson were started and operated in an unadulterated capitalist economy, there
would be no boundaries. No boundary on what it could retail, and for what amount. No quality
requirements for imported and exported products. No minimum limits for supervisors and they
could fire anyone they deemed unfit for any reason. The laws in place that guard customers and
employees from careless business practices would not apply in a country that has no part in the
choices companies make. Businesses would have more control than the government and Harley
Davidson Motorcycle Company would be the only company

The Female Gaze Of Art History

The Female Gaze in Art History
Thesis: Women have come a long way alongside men in presenting art in various forms, but
while artistic expression has been based from the male perspective and sexuality, female artists
are becoming more outspoken in their art forms challenging viewers to look beyond the physical
form and go deeper into its meaning. Down through the historical years of art the human body
has been the subject of intrigue and delight. While the display of the nude body has always
bought about controversy for one reason or another, the controversy is only as it applies to the
female nude. Not too much is ever focused on the nude body part of men, but female nudity
causes quite the stir, especially from male viewers. As I delve into this art form of female gaze, it
might be helpful to take a look at the male gaze as it applies to substantiating the female gaze.
The notion of the male gaze has both a literal and a figurative component. Literally the gaze is
male when it involves looks from the male species as a spectator or a participant in the work
itself. Figuratively the male gaze is often involving a female as the object. In Laura Mulvey s words,
man is the bearer of the gaze, woman its object. Laura Mulvey, Visual Pleasure and Narrative
Cinema (1975). An underprivileged object I might add. In my opinion male and female gaze is not
just about the features within artistry, but

Role Of Education In Public Education
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE MEDIA IN PUBLIC CIVIC EDUCATION?
Media corporations have a civic responsibility not only to prevent fraud and financial abuse, but
also to not corrupt or degrade our culture (Pickering, 2017). Society has always had an interest in
how students are educated in schools and prepared for citizenship to take part in civic life since
the late 1800 s. Because of the limited civic knowledge, poor civic dispositions, and dysfunctional
political landscape, it was the job of the schools to produce responsible citizens in the world. Civic
Education in a democracy is education in self government that is essential to sustain our
constitutional democracy because it is not inherited. Citizens are expected to be responsible and to
make thoughtful decisions in regards to the issues in their communities and the elected officials
voted into office to lead our nation. Back in the 1800 s, according to physician and founder
Benjamin Rush, schools should convert men into republican machines fitting them to each other by
means of education so that as well crafted civic gears, they could perform their parts properly to
produce regularity and unison in government (Johanek, 2012). Even though civic education in a
democracy is education in self government, media plays a significant role in today s society, in
strengthening and shaping our world into a global village by reducing the communication gaps
amongst people living in other areas of the country.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Music Practice
Music Practice is constant and habitual exercise of a principle instrument, genre, culture and

Environmental Control And Environmental Control In The...
Time in the Japanese Culture Japanese may be both past and future orientated., and generally
adhere to clock time (Galanti, 2015, p. 280). If a particular Japanese person is past oriented, they
may want to fall back on old traditions. One example is the patient wanting to cover themselves
with blankets and drinking warm beverages in order to sweat out a fever (Galanti, 2015). If a
Japanese patient is future oriented, they may be looking forward to upcoming goals. However,
their goals are based off interdependency instead of dependency. An elderly Japanese may rely
heavily upon their oldest son or wife to achieve tasks (Galanti, 2015).
Environmental Control in the Japanese Culture An aspect of environmental control is health
practices. One traditional practice for Asian cultures is coin rubbing . Coin rubbing is when a
piece of metal, coin or spoon, is oiled and heated. Then the metal is vigorously rubbed on the
patient s skin, producing a red area on the skin. This is believed to pull the illness out of the body
through the surface of the skin. At times, this may distract a health care provider. Raised red bumps
can look suspicious and lead to thought of some kind of abuse. However, this is an ancient
tradition for Asians regarding illness (Galanti, 2015).
Biological Variations in the Japanese Culture Members of an Asian cultural group have many drug
reactions. They are shown to be poor metabolizers of certain drugs. Therefore, they require lower

The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World
Annotations for: The Statue of Liberty:
1. The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World : was a gift of friendship from the people of
France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.
2. Treaty of Peace at Versailles : refers to The Peace of Paris (1783), a set of treaties which ended
the American Revolutionary War. In September 1783, King George III of Great Britain signed a
treaty in Paris with the United States known as the Treaty of Paris (1783) and two treaties at
Versailles with King Louis XVI of France and King Charles III of Spain known as the Treaties of
Versailles (1783).
3. Lafayette: During the American Revolution, French military man Marquis de La Fayette served
under George Washington as a Major General in the Continental Army.
The first article that I examined from Harper s Weekly was titled The Statue of Liberty. The
Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. In the early 1880s,
French citizens raised money to present to the United States Liberty Enlightening the World, the
immense sculpture by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi . (Edwards 90.) It is important to note that gift
was not from the French government. It was a gesture of friendship from its citizens and I feel
symbolized the stature, in France s eyes, that America had achieved in the world during the Gilded
Age. The Harper s article discusses the dedication on October 28, 1886 of the statue of Liberty

Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment Essay
Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment The Tuskegee Syphilis experiment was a study conducted by the
U.S. Public Health Service and the Tuskegee Institute to determine how untreated syphilis affects
African American men. The incident occurred in Macon County, Alabama, from 1932 to 1972 on
the campus of The Tuskegee Institute .The study consisted of a total of 600 African American men;
399 that were previously identified with having syphilis and 201 were uninfected ( USPHS

The key aspects of the study did give doctors and scientist an in depth of view of how syphilis
effects the body when untreated. On the other hand, the consequences is that other people, such as
the wives, sexual partners, and unborn children were also infected with the disease and were unable
to obtain proper treatment. Another consequence was uncovered racism in the medical community.
This lead people to believe that the reason the experiment went on so long was because the subjects
were all African American men that wore poor, and some even unable to read. For African
American community, the exposure of this unethical study continued to distrust in the government
and laws. The study did contribute to major changes. For example, public concern about lax
protocols and potential harm motivated the U.S. government to reevaluate standards for federally
supported studies involving human subjects. The changes made included requiring proof of
informed consent by subjects and mandatory review of all proposed studies by groups called
independent review boards. These new standards encourage ethical treatment of subjects, and help
to make certain that people are aware of the potential benefits and risks of participation in research

they are forever changing as you discover new things about yourself. For Vivian Gornick, a

Weaknesses Of Using Secondary Analysis
Some weaknesses of using secondary analysis include outdated data, a lack of collected data, data s
reliability, and biases. Researchers must find relevant data that reflect their specific study.
Depending on the topic, there may be a lack of secondary data about certain topics that researchers
are conducting. When a study is new, the amount of existing studies could be insufficient, which
need more research to be conducted. Another weakness when using secondary analysis is the
reliability of the data itself. Secondary data such as the General Social Survey (GSS) has numerous
quantitative data, but some arbitrary measures and non exhaustive measures in the GSS can make
interpretation difficult. When using data, researchers need to know who... Show more content on

The Importance Of Still Life Art
Food has long been a popular subject in art. For many hundreds of years, people have created
beautiful food based artworks that are cherished, even today. The consumption of food is a
shared experience as is art. I love this idea, that we can all share art. It s an opportunity to
collaborate on ideas and express our creativity and thoughtfulness and it is accessible to all
different age groups. This week I interviewed two artists that are noted for their skill in food
inspired art to discuss their artwork. These are Still lifewith silverware and lobster by Pieter
Claesz and Still Life: The Food Bowl by Ken and Julia Yonetani. Despite the fact that these
works were created four centuries apart, they share many factors and display the essence of still
life art. The aim, for me, of this interview is to identify the changes in still life art, will there be
any use of modern, emerging technologies in the more modern piece? Or maybe a 3D element?
I am thrilled to be able to shed some light on the still life genre that occupied much of my
painting. The beauty of still life painting is that it reflects so much of what is going on in the
world around it. When this painting was created in 1641, the middle class were gaining
prominence. People wanted other people to know how wealthy and cultured they were. In Still
Life with Silverware and Lobster I chose to include a range of objects that highlighted some of my
observations about the world I lived in. I wanted it to reflect

who escaped from her destiny of being enslaved by the man she once loved.
Men s dominance over women could be traced down to the beginning of time. In The Erl king for

The Effects of Social Isolation in the Invisible Man by...
Social Isolation, a state or process in which persons, groups, or cultures lose or do not have
communication or cooperation with one another, often resulting in open conflict. In H.G Wells
1897 novel The Invisible Man, the main character, Griffin, is socially isolated due to a condition
that has forced him to stay out of the scrutinizing eye of society .As the novel progresses, the
effects of social isolation begin to take form in Griffin s actions and become more pertinent with
each event that occurs. These actions show the effects of social isolation throughout the course of
the novel.
The beginning of Griffin s social isolation begins early in his life. Griffin is albino, meaning that
he has little to no pigmentation in his skin, eyes, and hair. This condition makes it exceptionally
challenging for Griffin to be a cohesive member of society, so in order to avoid the eminent
rejection that he believes awaits him if he tries to join society, he chooses to become an
introvert. The expression a fish out of water reminds us that every animal is adapted to a habitat
(Pinker 374). Griffin does not have a habitat to adapt to because he lives outside of society and
has no one to help him adapt. At this point Griffin is able to be diagnosed with a form of social
loneliness due to his feelings of being an outcast (Gelinas 4). After Griffin is isolated from society
for a short period of time, his anger starts to progress into something that even he cannot control. As

Standing eight feet tall in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a marble statue of what is known as

You can be sure that this swing set will endure rough play from your children and won t break. It s
durable and if you keep it outside, it will withstand rough weather conditions because of the
material it s made from.
I would highly recommend this swing set for very young children. It s made of heavy plastic,
and the entire swing set has rounded edges, which ensures your child s safety. This swing set is
not expensive at all, but will last for quite some time. It s not really the type of swing set that will
grow with your child, it s really only meant for toddler years. But, that s okay because the price is
very low and it will last you as long as you need it to. It s really a great deal and your toddlers will
love it.

younger kids. This great swing set is very durable and is also safe. It is made with heavy duty
plastic and has rounded edges, so your kids won t get hurt while playing on it. It is designed with

Intrinsic Motivation Paper
Intrinsic Motivation in Public Organizations is an essential principal. It is clear that employee
engagement and motivation is a vital part of the workplace. We spend almost more time with
them as a full time employee than our own family. Fellow workers become our second family with
the workplace acting as a home away from home. Everyone wants a healthy environment to come
to. The public sector and organizations are more challenging to motivate due to the application of
ethical guidelines and outside influence from others. Society sees the public sector as overpaid and
underworked. Unfortunately, this leads to low morale and negatively impact employee positive
engagement. The public organizations also suffer from a lack of funds compared to

Exxon Mobil Resources and Capabilities Essay
Exxon Mobile is one of the most successful companies in the oil and energy industries today. But
what makes them so successful? In an effort to answer this question, a thorough internal
investigation can be helpful in determining what aspects of this company are making it an industry
leader. Two aspects of this internal analysis of ExxonMobile are the company s resources and
capabilities.
Resources
One of the most reputable resources that Exxon Mobil has today is a strong brand name. Exxon
Mobil operates all over the world and is recognized in every part of the world (Datamonitor,
2008). When people all over the world know who a company is, what they do, and where they are
located, the company gains a unique competitive advantage over ... Show more content on

Another important resource that Exxon possesses is the presence of human expertise capital
throughout the company (Datamoitor, 2008). Exxon employs many scientists and engineers that
are researching and finding new ways to gain access to more energy resources and make the new
innovations less harmful to the environment (Annual Report, 2007). This human capital has
proven to be a very important resource for the company as shown by their development of new
ways to increase liquid natural gas supplies and enhancing heavy oil recovery (Annual Report,
2007). Using the VRINE model again, I will assess this resource.
In analyzing the value of the human expertise capital, again we must consider whether this resource
helps the company meet market demand and can eliminate some uncertainty. In this case, I believe
that the unique research department that houses these scientists and engineers is one that gives the
company a great capability to compete in the market, and even excel within the industry. I believe it
also eliminates some uncertainty because while the company is researching and developing cutting
edge technology, it keeps them knowledgeable about all the new innovations and ideas that are
throughout the industry. This makes the resource very valuable.
Next, the rarity of the resource must be analyzed. I believe that this resource is rare because of the
entire department (the Upstream Research Center)

Angels And Insects Essay
A great Neo Victorian concern was to deconstruct the ideals and myths of the Victorian society and
belief, as they were foolishly enslaved by their own jaundice. The Victorians have made a sidewall
to inner and sometimes outer world, becoming mediocre in thinking and acting.
The aim of this essay consists in illustrating various aspects that were taken over from Victorians
and ingeniously rearranged by A.S. Byatt in her first short novel from Angels and Insects aspects
regarding the multitude of perspectives when it comes to analyzing the characters.
On the one hand, it was quite unusual for a man who lived in the Victorian era to be so sensitive to
female s feelings, to offer her his unconditionally love and compassion, and to be so open minded
that he is seen as a poor fish by narrow minded people. The model of gentleman is, thus, brought
back to its literary meaning, in the sense that William is gentle in thought and action. It may seem
that he founds the balance between reason and emotion by keeping a journal: He had always kept
a journal. When he was a young man, in a village outside Rotherham in Yorkshire, he had written a
daily examination of his conscience (15), The journals had changed ... Show more content on

the conventions through forbidden pleasures must be her pursuit. Her Id discharges her Ego and

William Blake s The Chimney
The Pre Romantic poet William Blake grew up in a world that was undergoing dramatic changes.
With the Industrial Revolution in the eighteenth century, child labor became a common practice
throughout Britain. The children were oppressed and had a diminutive existence and were forced to
work long hours in the factories, mills, coal mines and chimneys, in dangerous and inhumane
conditions. The chimneys were often only seven inches wide and only a child was small enough to
fit inside and brush clean it. Master sweeps would buy young children usually six to ten years old
from their poverty stricken parents or take in young homeless children from the streets and turn
them into indentured servants. Blake deplored the society that could treat... Show more content on

The state of Innocence to be understood as childhood, idealism, hope and that of Experience to be
understood as adulthood, disillusionment, social criticism, and despair.
The structure of The Chimney Sweeper in the Songs of Innocence is six quatrains of the rhyme
scheme AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH IIJJ KKLL, it is a dramatic monologue, in which the child
narrates his story through the use of the personal pronoun I which adds a personal and genuine
touch to the poem because children are incapable of lying about their feelings. Blake successfully
emphasizes the innocence of a child who does not comprehend the injustice that he is
experiencing. The Chimney Sweeper in the Songs of Experience is a poem of three quatrains with
the rhyme scheme AABB CACA DEDE. There are two speakers in the poem, an adult speaker in
the first stanza asks the boy Where are thy father and mother? to which the boy replies and takes
over as the speaker of the poem. Blake sets up a pattern of rhyming couplets in the first stanza and
then abandons the rhyme scheme altogether in the next two stanzas in order to show that the
speaker in the last two stanzas is a child and using a simple rhyme scheme makes sense when a
child is speaking. The sound of the poem has a sweet and innocent effect, like the narrator himself.
The Chimney Sweeper in The Songs of Innocence begins with a depressing and sympathetic tone
as the child reveals that he is in a miserable

The Effects Of Winter On The Winter
And Then There Was Winter Early November through early March have the reputation of being the
coldest, most unappreciated months of the year in Minnesota. Late March through October are the
warmest months of the year and offer the most outdoor activities, so most people think. What many
refuse to recognize is the fact winterhas just as much to offer as summer. Summer is the warmest
seasonof the year. Lasting from June to August, people vacation and grow crops. With nice weather,
many different activities can take place outdoors, such as fishing, swimming, golfing, horseback
riding, camping, and much more. From May to early June is spring, warming all the lakes and
rivers around in northern states. Lakes are the local retreat for most people during June, July and
August, and even into September when school approaches. Warm weather brings everyone out of
their homes and into the sun. Warm weather does not only appeal to people, but also wildlife. In
northern states like Minnesota, many migratory animals visit the solitary comfort of the warm
temperatures in the summer. Green foliage reappears on the brown, gray branches of trees. Crops
begin their long journey of growth. Many birds return to their summer hideaways and fill the air
with their beautiful songs. Hibernators awake and roam the landscape in search for the new
greenery. All seems to be well in the world of summer, except when weather changes. High
temperatures are very common in the summertime. In Minnesota it

The Beautiful Land Of Luna Fauncian
In the beautiful land of Luna Fauncian lived a family who gave birth to a baby girl. As she opened
her eyes her tiny fingers pointed to the sky above.
She loves nature, her mother said in awe.
Fauna! Let s name her Fauna in honor of the whimsical land that surrounds us.
And so it was. As Fauna grew up she explored the forest alone and kept to herself because she
was too shy to expose herself to social situations. After all, she enjoyed the presence of nature
and the natural vibe it gave off. Fauna loved nature so much that she was granted control of
plants from Zeus to use when she was in danger. Fauna had no idea of this gift. Then one day a
huge boulder came out of no where, it was a rock monster! The monster was as vicious as ... Show

She yelled, MOM, DAD, TREELEMACHUS!
But there was no response. The rock monster had committed the deed he had threatened. She
turned around to see Rocky running away, with her family in his hands into the water. She watched
Rocky sink into the tides until he was out of sight.
Fauna was in deep despair, she wept for many hours because all the people she loved were taken
from her. Hours had passed, the exhaustion grew heavy, sorrow grew within her...she passed out
into a deep slumber. When she woke she found Hermes hovering over her.
Do you have anything to eat? Hemes asked cheerfully.
She wiped the tears from her eyes, a tear dripped from her palm. As it hit the ground a blueberry
bush flourished into life.
May I take one? Hermes asked.
Of course! Fauna responded.
For the love of Zeus why are you so blue?
Oh nothing I don t want, I mean uhm, I just shouldn t bother you with my troubles.
You can tell me, maybe I can help you, he said with comfort.
I really don t want to bother you but, my family is now a prisoner of Rockes and I can t find
them. We are going to get your family back, even if you think it s too much of me to help! Hermes
exclaimed.
He starts off on his journey in search of Fauna s family. Sea after sea, road after road and trail after
trail, Hermes finally spotted

Symbolism In The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas originated in a poem written by Tim Burton in 1982 that was
later published October 13, 1993 as a film with his original hopes of making The Nightmare
Before Christmas a short film turned out to be a smashing hit out of his many films. Tim
Burton s films often show mysterious worlds filled with wonder and horror that bring us to see
the world in new ways that we never knew. In this film just like many other of Burton s films the
character is searching to find a new meaning to their life, or even going out of the way to make
their life better by filling the empty void by finding a certain something or someone. What begins
to puzzle the reader or viewer is when confusion comes up on who the bad guy or monster is in
reality.
Our main character Jack is faced with hardship of not being understood and not being able to find
what is needed to fill the empty void within him which is said in that of Jack s Lament Performed
by Danny Elfman Yet year after year, it s the same routine And I grow so weary of the sound of
screams And I, Jack, the Pumpkin King Have grown so tired of the same old thing Oh, somewhere
deep inside of these bones An emptiness began to grow There s something out there, far from my
home A longing that I ve never known so he mentions an emptiness beginning to grow within his
bones metaphorically speaking even though his character has a physical emptiness
I excel without ever even trying With the slightest little effort of my

What Is Auschwitz Concentration Camp
Auschwitz
Over 1 million jews were killed at the Auschwitz concentration camp. Jews were taken from their
homes and put into concentration camps against their will. The most famous of them was
Auschwitz. This concentration camp was by far the largest and had the biggest effect on the Jewish
Race.
Auschwitz was located in the suburbs of an abandoned city. The camp was originally a detention
center for political prisoners. But, the camp would soon be the biggest concentration camp in
history. Almost 1.25 million people that were deported to the camp would be killed.
The commanders of Auschwitz were Lieutenant Colonel Rudolf Huess and Colonel Arthur
Liebchenzel. They divided the camp into three different parts. The main camp, Birkenau, and the
third Manowitz. Most of the jews in the concentration camps were put in gas chambers, enslaved,
or sometimes died of starvation. Some of the prisoners weren t at the camps for very long if they
had a disease. You were almost immediatly killed. They showed no mercy to the detainees.... Show

concentration camp.
This is why this single camp affected the jewish race so much. So, Auschwitz was a dangerous
and big camp. They killed you in the worst way possible and showed no mercy while not feeling
bad at all. But, the camp was eventually raided and thousands of corpses were left behind. This
would be the end of the most famous concentration camp in

The Heart of Concordia
What do we value? Where are our priorities? In whom do we put our trust? These are the
questions our lessons ask today. And these are the questions, we as Concordia Lutheran Church,
have been asking and continue to ask. Our scripture today, not only ask the questions, but
answers them, too. And we, as Concordia, can gain insight, excitement, and hope from the
answers. My first few days with you, I was not here in Superior, I was at Heartwood Conference
Center and Retreat in Trego attending the Fall Conference of our Northwest Synod of Wisconsin.
I was able to meet many of the pastors from our synod. Thank you for giving me that opportunity.
Our main speaker for the conference was Bishop Dick Graham, the bishop for Washington D.C.
As we talked about priorities for congregations, synods, and our denomination, he focused on two
Caring for the Poor and Making Disciples. That s what we are to be about as a church. And that s
exactly what our lessons for today talk about. Our Old TestamentText from Amos speaks judgment
against those not caring for the poor. Not caring for the poor is not something new. As we read
the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament), we constantly hear God calling the Israelites to care
for the poor and judgment when they do not. Overall, I think congregations and our ELCA do a
pretty good job with caring for the poor. Yet there are always ways to do more and ways to change
the system that often hurts

  • 3. Globalization And The European Union There are in some areas of globalization that can cause drawbacks, which were made prevalent with the European Union. The main drawback within the European Union was its economy. If one country within the organization were to have economic crisis then that country would affect all other country members. This was made clear in 2010 with the economic crisis presented in Greece. Many other countries within the Union were left to bail out the Greece economy; which in turn, hurt their own economies. The situation with Greece and the other European Unionmembers is still a current issue; however, Union members say that they will continue to contribute to struggling economies. The world will continue to globalize businesses, economies, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As of 2012, only seventeen of members of the European Union have decided to use Euros as their currency. In order for the members that adopted the Euro as their currency to successfully help their economic problems, the Eurozone members had to follow strict instructions put into place the European Union. The strict policies included strict control over inflation, government debt, and long term interest rates (Mckee 525). The union put these strict policies into place to give the union the tools that it needed to take in order to help fix the economic crisis in each country participating in the Eurozone. Without the full cooperation of each country, it could cause the plans to fix the economic crisis within each country to fail because of the different interests by each individual country. Addressing some issues, the European Union decided to issue 750 million Euros in order to start the process of financial stability for the whole union (Mckee 524). Over time, the union learned that that the amount of money was not enough in order to help each countries individual financial crisis. As of now, the union has to increase the amount of money they are feeding to countries in hopes of fixing the economic issues. The continuing issue with the European Union s economic plans is finding the money to keep funding countries with low economic growth. Furthermore, the union also has to figure out how to deal with the issues that are outside of the European Union s borders. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Sphere Poem In his 2006 collection, District and Circle , Seamus Heaney responds to the ever changing and developing world around him. To do so he often relies upon the exploration of the past, memory, and personal identity through the use of language. In the second poem of District and Circle , A Shiver , Seamus Heaney is dependent upon these concepts to construct a thematically rich poem. Heaney s A Shiver utilises language to explore the themes of the past, memory, and personal identity. The Petrarchan sonnetdescribes the action of wielding a tool: the energy that is associated with it, as well as an understanding of the destructive power that it wields: the way you had to stand to swing the sledge . By using a Petrarchan sonnet Heaney introduces the concept of the past within his poetry, due to the historical context of the Renaissance style of writing. The description of the tool, in past tense and therefore illuminating Heaney s fascination of the past, ultimately leads to a metaphor in regards to what occurs when strength, and therefore power, falls into the wrong hands. The tool that is used within A Shiver to demonstrate this power is a sledgehammer most commonly used by labourers as a way to demolish material items and it is implied that Heaney himself has operated the sledgehammer and is, almost, frightened by its power. This can then be contributed to the overall metaphor of misused power. This metaphor also demonstrates Heaney s personal narrative voice within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Cosmetic Surgery Should Be Banned Cosmetic surgery should be banned. Do you have one thing you would like to change about your appearance? I would guess the answer is yes. People nowadays, especially women, are consumed with their appearance. Many strive to conform to what society views as the perfect body image and this can make people extremely insecure about the way they look. They think that cosmetic surgery will solve this it doesn t. In fact, cosmetic surgery only enhances the need to look beautiful and can lead to many consequences including addiction, mental illness and even death. You may believe cosmetic surgery can help people with mental illnesses such as body dysmorphia. However, it only acts as a plaster, hiding a much deeper problem. • 8. U.s. Federal Law Enforcement Agencies Terrorism has always existed in American policing, and while the groups committing these acts have changed, their intentions have not. Their intentions being to cause maximum fear and scare those who they target into doing and following their ideology. In the 1970 s and 1980 s in America, the main terrorist groups were associated with the environmental movement and race based groups, while other parts of the world were dealing with Islamic extremists, were committing terrorist acts across the Middle East without much intervention from the United States. In fact the group Al Qaeda, who attacked the World Trade Centers in 1993 and 2001, found its roots in the 1980 s fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan with weapons supplied by the Central Intelligence Agency. While the U.S. Federal Law Enforcement agencies knew of these groups, they underestimated the capabilities of lone wolf, small cell, and whole terrorist organizations. This was due to the fact that the Federal Law Enforcement agencies top priority was general crime such as organized crimes and white collar crime. In the 1900 s and early 2000 s a series of events would bring a change in priorities for Federal Law Enforcement, namely the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), which was on the brink of being dissolved. The Inspector General s 2003 report stated that prior to 9/11, the Bureau devoted significantly more special agent resources to traditional law enforcement activities such as white collar crime, ... • 9. Compare And Contrast Essay Good Vs Evil Good vs. Evil There are numerous things that citizens of this world are afraid of. A huge example is public speaking. Getting up in front of many peers, friends, advisors, and role models can intimidate, frighten, or discourage us in many different ways. The fear that others will judge or think less of us is scary and can be a gigantic blow to our pride. Often times, feelings of anxiety join the scene, making the situation as terrible as it can possibly be. Many of these feelings that have been mentioned contribute to the reason why humans like to stay in their comfort zones and do the things that they have always done, for fearthat people may judge them, or they might fail. Another common fear that people have is dying. For many religiously active people, this topic is the least of their worries, but for others, they can t help but worry about what will become of them once they leave this earth. During funerals, relatives and close friends of the person who has perished usually speak about or discuss the things that they accomplished in their lives. The sins that we have committed in our lives are forgotten and people tend to focus on the bright sides of our lives. When he entered the NBA, the Bulls were one of the worst teams in the NBA. As a rookie, Jordan turned the Bulls into a playoff team. Michael far exceeded anything imagined. Jordan instantly established himself as a first rate scorer who could rebound, pass, and play ferocious defense (Minsky 110). For his unbelievable season, Jordan was awarded the NBA Rookie of the Year. In the next season, the Bulls made the playoffs again, even with Michael sidelined for sixty games with a broken foot. In the playoffs, Jordan was cleared to play five minutes, but ended up playing a lot more than that. He set a playoff record with sixty three points in a game, and he amazingly did this while he was just getting over a broken foot. His victory was all the more sweet for the adversity he had encountered along the way, including his annual frustration in the playoffs and the criticism he regularly received in the media. Still, Michael s unbending passion made him a hero to most fans (Minsky 115). This quote is saying that after he won his first NBA championship, it was even better for everyone because of the criticism he was facing for losing in the playoffs for a few years before that year. God then goes and shows this angel part of George s life that was very significant. In the end, we see George Bailey at present time and we see that he is at one of his lowest points ever. Throughout the movie, the audience gets to perceive George s dilemma in life. Since he was a little boy, George has been a good child: always willing to help others. When people are scared, depressed and mad, they have a tendency of thinking irrational and therefore make careless choices. George Bailey s careless choice is wanting to take his life away. Emotion also plays a very significant role in the movie. When George Bailey s guardian angel makes it so that George was never born, he gets to see how the people and the town are really affected by his nonexistence. Seeing that his wife Mary does not have a happy life and that his old boss went to prison for putting drugs in those capsules that he could have prevented if he was alive, is really emotional to him and he feels heartbroken. He notices that the once before Bailey Park is now Potterville, and all the decent houses that were built there are now old slums and people are in poverty due to Mr. Potter s lack of emotion and kindness. George witnesses all these catastrophic changes and it pains him to see so much suffering that he could have prevented. • 13. Personality And Theory Of Personality Essay Personality Examined Personality is deeply complexing subject that cannot be easily summed up. There is no concrete right answer, or only one way to evaluate any given subject, as every aspect of personality has more than one view point or angle. Famous psychologists such as Freud, Adler, Jung, Erickson, Eysenck, and Skinner all shaped and conducted the research that would come together and be taught to generations as the foundations of personality and the theory of personality. To better understand the idea of personality, we are going to examine the six different cornerstones of personality. They consist of Nature versus Nurture, The Unconscious, You of the Self, Development, Motivation and Maturation. In this, no one theory is more valid than the other, and no one research has more validity than the other. In this paper each cornerstone will be examined using scholarly research. Foundations of Personality Nature Versus Nurture Before the concept of nature versus nurture can be broken down and examined, first there must be a proper understanding of both terms. In context of nature versus nurture, nature refers to a person s biological factors, such as the hereditary factors passed down from the genes of their birth parents. Whereas nurture refers to an individual s personal experience and environment that shapes them into who they are, and gave them a form of identity. Montag et al (2016), work suggests that while in some cases nurture can be an influence on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although history has a reputation for repeating itself, some people also believe you can t predict the future. Many people believe you can t predict the future. Prophetic dreams, also called precognitive dreams, do not occur much, if at all, so you will have to be vigilant when it comes to remembering and reading your dreams (wikihow.com)This quote proves my rebuttal, because Prophetic dreams are dreams that predict the future, but you are lucky if you even have one, but if you do, then you don t get them very often. Why do we just stand by as cruel things happen to good people. Science has coined this term as the bystander effect. The bystander effect is defined as, a social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people are present. You can see this effect in full in the movie, The Hunger Games, as people just stand by and let the killing of innocent children happen year after year. The Purpose Of The Federal Small Business Program Purpose of the federal small business program; include a historical aspect of the Government regulations that created the program: The U.S. Small Business Administration was founded on July 30, 1953, and has delivered millions of loans, contracts, counseling sessions, loan guarantees, and other types of assistance to small businesses. Even though SBA was formally created in 1953, its philosophy and mission began to form years earlier in other agencies and began largely as a response to the pressures of the Great Depression and World War II (Business , 1988). These events caused mass hardship on the economy, and the best way to promote it again was through small business. The Small Business Preference Program was created to guarantee that small businesses received their fair share of contracts for federal government services and supplies. The intent was to help strengthen the economy by allowing small businesses to get a portion of the property government sold as well. 23% of all Federal contracting dollars must be awarded to small businesses, and specifically, 5% to women owned small businesses. There are many different types of small businesses, and each receives a portion of the contract the government gives. The Female Gaze Of Art History Paula St. Cyr Erin Farrell, M.A. adjunct ARTH 316 W1 December 10, 2016 The Female Gaze in Art History Thesis: Women have come a long way alongside men in presenting art in various forms, but while artistic expression has been based from the male perspective and sexuality, female artists are becoming more outspoken in their art forms challenging viewers to look beyond the physical form and go deeper into its meaning. Down through the historical years of art the human body has been the subject of intrigue and delight. While the display of the nude body has always bought about controversy for one reason or another, the controversy is only as it applies to the female nude. Not too much is ever focused on the nude body part of men, but female nudity causes quite the stir, especially from male viewers. As I delve into this art form of female gaze, it might be helpful to take a look at the male gaze as it applies to substantiating the female gaze. The notion of the male gaze has both a literal and a figurative component. Literally the gaze is male when it involves looks from the male species as a spectator or a participant in the work itself. Figuratively the male gaze is often involving a female as the object. In Laura Mulvey s words, man is the bearer of the gaze, woman its object. Media corporations have a civic responsibility not only to prevent fraud and financial abuse, but also to not corrupt or degrade our culture (Pickering, 2017). Society has always had an interest in how students are educated in schools and prepared for citizenship to take part in civic life since the late 1800 s. Because of the limited civic knowledge, poor civic dispositions, and dysfunctional political landscape, it was the job of the schools to produce responsible citizens in the world. Civic Education in a democracy is education in self government that is essential to sustain our constitutional democracy because it is not inherited. Citizens are expected to be responsible and to make thoughtful decisions in regards to the issues in their communities and the elected officials voted into office to lead our nation. Back in the 1800 s, according to physician and founder Benjamin Rush, schools should convert men into republican machines fitting them to each other by means of education so that as well crafted civic gears, they could perform their parts properly to produce regularity and unison in government (Johanek, 2012). It s an opportunity to collaborate on ideas and express our creativity and thoughtfulness and it is accessible to all different age groups. This week I interviewed two artists that are noted for their skill in food inspired art to discuss their artwork. These are Still lifewith silverware and lobster by Pieter Claesz and Still Life: The Food Bowl by Ken and Julia Yonetani. Despite the fact that these works were created four centuries apart, they share many factors and display the essence of still life art. The aim, for me, of this interview is to identify the changes in still life art, will there be any use of modern, emerging technologies in the more modern piece? Or maybe a 3D element? I am thrilled to be able to shed some light on the still life genre that occupied much of my painting. The beauty of still life painting is that it reflects so much of what is going on in the world around it. When this painting was created in 1641, the middle class were gaining prominence. • 38. The Effects of Social Isolation in the Invisible Man by... Social Isolation, a state or process in which persons, groups, or cultures lose or do not have communication or cooperation with one another, often resulting in open conflict. In H.G Wells 1897 novel The Invisible Man, the main character, Griffin, is socially isolated due to a condition that has forced him to stay out of the scrutinizing eye of society .As the novel progresses, the effects of social isolation begin to take form in Griffin s actions and become more pertinent with each event that occurs. These actions show the effects of social isolation throughout the course of the novel. The beginning of Griffin s social isolation begins early in his life. Griffin is albino, meaning that he has little to no pigmentation in his skin, eyes, and hair. This condition makes it exceptionally challenging for Griffin to be a cohesive member of society, so in order to avoid the eminent rejection that he believes awaits him if he tries to join society, he chooses to become an introvert. The expression a fish out of water reminds us that every animal is adapted to a habitat (Pinker 374). Griffin does not have a habitat to adapt to because he lives outside of society and has no one to help him adapt. At this point Griffin is able to be diagnosed with a form of social loneliness due to his feelings of being an outcast (Gelinas 4). After Griffin is isolated from society for a short period of time, his anger starts to progress into something that even he cannot control. As the novel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exxon employs many scientists and engineers that are researching and finding new ways to gain access to more energy resources and make the new innovations less harmful to the environment (Annual Report, 2007). This human capital has proven to be a very important resource for the company as shown by their development of new ways to increase liquid natural gas supplies and enhancing heavy oil recovery (Annual Report, 2007). Using the VRINE model again, I will assess this resource. In analyzing the value of the human expertise capital, again we must consider whether this resource helps the company meet market demand and can eliminate some uncertainty. In this case, I believe that the unique research department that houses these scientists and engineers is one that gives the company a great capability to compete in the market, and even excel within the industry. I believe it also eliminates some uncertainty because while the company is researching and developing cutting edge technology, it keeps them knowledgeable about all the new innovations and ideas that are throughout the industry. This makes the resource very valuable. Next, the rarity of the resource must be analyzed. I believe that this resource is rare because of the entire department (the Upstream Research Center) ... • 47. Angels And Insects Essay A great Neo Victorian concern was to deconstruct the ideals and myths of the Victorian society and belief, as they were foolishly enslaved by their own jaundice. The Victorians have made a sidewall to inner and sometimes outer world, becoming mediocre in thinking and acting. The aim of this essay consists in illustrating various aspects that were taken over from Victorians and ingeniously rearranged by A.S. On the one hand, it was quite unusual for a man who lived in the Victorian era to be so sensitive to female s feelings, to offer her his unconditionally love and compassion, and to be so open minded that he is seen as a poor fish by narrow minded people. With the Industrial Revolution in the eighteenth century, child labor became a common practice throughout Britain. The chimneys were often only seven inches wide and only a child was small enough to fit inside and brush clean it. The structure of The Chimney Sweeper in the Songs of Innocence is six quatrains of the rhyme scheme AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH IIJJ KKLL, it is a dramatic monologue, in which the child narrates his story through the use of the personal pronoun I which adds a personal and genuine touch to the poem because children are incapable of lying about their feelings. Blake successfully emphasizes the innocence of a child who does not comprehend the injustice that he is experiencing. The Chimney Sweeper in the Songs of Experience is a poem of three quatrains with the rhyme scheme AABB CACA DEDE. There are two speakers in the poem, an adult speaker in the first stanza asks the boy Where are thy father and mother? to which the boy replies and takes over as the speaker of the poem. Blake sets up a pattern of rhyming couplets in the first stanza and then abandons the rhyme scheme altogether in the next two stanzas in order to show that the speaker in the last two stanzas is a child and using a simple rhyme scheme makes sense when a child is speaking.
