Technological Experience in Electronics
I have experienced and learned many things about electronics since I was 12. My father taught me
many things about electronic devices. When I was young, before the age of 12, I enjoyed observing
my father as he worked on damaged electronic devices. As I got older, my curiosity became immense
and I started to ask many questions. At first, I got to unscrew the object with screwdrivers. In the
article How to Use a Screwdriver by an eHow contributor instructed that rotating the screwdriver
clockwise would insert the screw. If you rotate the screwdriver counter clockwise it would remove the
screw. I still remember how to insert and remove a screw with a screwdriver until this day. Then my
father would eventually explain the components of the devices and how to distinguish similar or
relatively alike components. Some simple examples are capacitors, which are shaped differently
according to their functionality. The Basic Electronics Tutorials explained the Capacitor, sometimes
referred to as a Condenser, is a simple passive device that is used to store electricity . There are many
types of capacitors on a circuit board which can be distinguished by sizes or its relative area that s on
the board. There are electrolytic, film, dielectric and ceramic capacitor. Most electronics use
electrolytic capacitors. Capacitors are usually wrapped with a plastic label. When a capacitor
malfunction and burn, the heat would also burns the plastic label and the label would become ruined

Deviance Essay
Deviance is what is considered a violation of cultural norms, and is something that is frowned upon
due to social norms. Society attempts to regulate people s thoughts and behaviors for social control.
There is a huge connection between the two because deviance varies with cultural norms, people
become deviant when others define them as such and both norms and the definition given involve
social power. Lets take the example of Brent Staple; new to New York, and was a graduate student
who had been an avid nightwalker. Mr. Staples became painfully aware that society had seen him as
deviant, because when they looked at him all they saw was a black man wearing bulky clothes late at
night walking around ready to attack someone. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So to sum that all up categories, labels and boundary lines are constructed so that social groups can
maintain a norm and they believe allows for a functioning society. You have racially motivated deviant
boundary lines so that social groups can segregate themselves from others to have power over each
other. So why do social groups label and categorize people as deviant based off of race? Labeling
someone as deviant because of race is away for society to try and strengthening themselves as racially
segregated groups. For example if a group of whites label a group of blacks as outcasts or deviants it
gives them social control and power. Another reason why social groups construct boundary lines,
labels and categorizes is because that is their way of keeping society functioning and keeping people
within the norms of what we know as normal and abnormal. If society cannot outcast people then we
have no hierarchy and no power. With Brent Staples he was feeling as an outsider, seeing fear from
people because of his race, his gender, his clothing as well as the fact he was out late walking around.
In my opinion society is taking away his power of freedom to be comfortable doing what many other
people were doing at night walking around, they took away his power to feel whole as an individual.
All of these factors gave the people around him the idea that he was something to be feared. It made
him feel that he needed to change, to conform to society so he would not be

Efforts of the European Union to Help Combat the Greek...
European Union (EU) plays a major part in facing this Greek financial debt crisis, which requires a
major restructuring in the economic sector and to tighten stronger integration among EU member
country. The primary focal point is on restoring the sustainability of public finances and addressing
other macroeconomic imbalances by fostering fiscal discipline. In addition, new rules are set to ensure
stronger and more effective economic governance, particularly in the euro zone area, with adequate
mechanisms to monitor progress and ensure enforcement.
Facing the crisis, Greece has received two bailout packages from the EU, European Commissions
(EC) and International Monetary Fund (IMF). The first package (May 2010) is worth €110 ... Show

For example, the fiscal rule is conceived to be adopted if the annual structural balance is coherent with
the country specific medium term budgetary objective (MTO) which as stated in the Stability and
Growth Pact (SGP) to lower limit of structural deficit of 0.5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and
part of preventive arm and plus it also require a rapid convergence in order to confront the crisis.

Moreover, a higher deficit of at most 1% is only allowed if the government debt to GDP ratio is under

Essay On Play Therapy
Play therapy is appropriate for children between 3 12 years old. Aspects that counselors must consider
include whether the child has the capacity to learn, obtain insight, and the ability to develop a
relationship with an adult. The purpose of play therapy relates to exploring and expressing feelings,
gain knowledge about self and others, strengthen problem solving and decision making skills, in
addition to increasing the child s sense of competence and self efficacy. When counselor s setup space
intended for play therapy they must ensure that the space is comfortable and private. According to the
text, the room should be between 150 200 square feet with washable walls and floors, sink and
bathroom, and storage shelves cabinets and shelves to store toys and other materials. Additionally, a
one way mirror and recording equipment for videotaping is recommended (Vernon, 2009). Since
school counselors work in educational settings where space is limited and often designed for
instructional or administrative use, acquiring a room with a one way mirror for recording counseling
sessions with students may not be conducive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Analyis of Knowledge of a Possibility by JUllary...
The value of literature as a source of knowledge is a timeless debate that varies depending on how
knowledge is defined. I will adopt Hillary Putnam s theory of Knowledge of a Possibility (Putnam
488) in Literature Science, and Reflection (1976), and focus on the value of literature as a source of
conceptual knowledge. The emergence of the novel brought with it conventions for a more realistic
writing style that aimed to appeal to the common readers. Variations of the degree of realism ranged
from writing that tried to present a fully authentic experience of life, known as Formal Realism, and
writing that offers some authentic aspects of life but also conserves characteristics of classic genres of
epics and romances. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The criterion for knowledge is rather complex and Putnam addresses literary knowledge in both the
empirical and conceptual elements (Putnam 488). On the one hand, there are the conceptual elements
of knowledge, those that can be considered knowledge of possibility (Putnam 488) that allow us to
think of new possibilities through conceptual discovery (Putnam 488). Conceptual knowledge allows
readers to get a sense of what something is like or provide insight to another person s beliefs. There
are not necessarily claims to truth in this form of knowledge, but in some instances the hypotheses we
obtain from literature may be tested confirmed through personal experience, and consequently may be
confirmed or falsified. On the other hand there is empirical knowledge, which is gained through
observations, scientific experimentation, and evidence. In this context, Putnam rejects the ability of
literature to provide readers with empirical knowledge. In his example about The Golden Notebook by
Doris Lessing, Putnam suggests that the book provides knowledge of what it was like to be a
communist in the 1940s (Putnam 489) but offers a disclaimer you may say to yourself this is what it
must have been like; but...you have no right to say I know what this is what it was like (Putnam 489).
Despite this distinction, Putnam still asserts the value of knowledge in literature Dorris

Mobile Banking for the Unbanked
In many developing countries it s common for a person to have a mobile phone but not a bank
account. In fact, more than 1 billion people fit this description, and the number is only likely to
increase. To that end, many companies are considering how to give residents access to banking
services via their handsets. The GSM Association predicts that by 2012, nearly 300 million of the
previously unbanked will be using some form of mobile banking. The mistake a lot of us make is to
look at the folks at the base of the pyramid and assume that they must need the same types of services
we need. The Harvard Business School case study Mobile Banking for the Unbanked explores two
very different examples of mobile financial service models: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A subscription model doesn t appeal to the poor at all, Rangan says. They don t want to pay a fee for
something they might not use. Moreover, more than half of South Africa s population had no access to
a bank account. This was largely because half of the population lived below the poverty line, and
banks, understandably, were not eager to serve a moneyless customer base. Banks find it an
unprofitable proposition to serve people who make less than three dollars per day, Rangan says. Still,
WIZZIT s founders thought there was a noble and viable business model in bringing banking to the
poor, via a mobile banking platform that could be used on even the most primitive cell phone. They
succeeded in finding an engineer to develop the platform, but quickly ran into a major regulatory
roadblock. Per the South African government, only licensed banks were allowed to take deposits. The
cost of a license was the equivalent of $34 million a hefty fee for a startup and the South African
Reserve Bank was wary of issuing new permits. Hence, the WIZZIT execs began searching for an
established banking partner. Time and again the top tier banks turned

What Is The Theme Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Essay

A Girl and her Mother There are several responsibilities a girl should learn about before going off on
her own and it is usually the mother s job to teach their daughter these life lessons. In the prose poem
Girl, by Jamaica Kincaid, a mother writes out a guide her daughter must follow in order to succeed in
her adult years. This poem that the mother has written for her daughter is better seen as a guide to
adulthood due to her use of an extremely long run on sentence and choice of diction. The run on
sentence consists of a list of commands like this is how you sweep a corner; this is how you sweep a
whole house; this is how you sweep a yard (22 24). Not only does the run on sentence depict that this
is a guide, but so does the constant repetition of this is how and don t ... Show more content on

These three dishes are not just ordinary dishes you eat on a regular day, these dishes are dishes you eat
on tradition. The mother passing down these traditions to her daughter shows that she loves her and
wants her to follow these traditions too. The mother also tells her daughter, this is how you grow okra
far from the house, because okra tree harbors red ants (20). Not only is she passing on the tradition of
how to grow okra, but she is also giving her daughter advice on how to stay away from red ants
because she wants her daughter to be safe. When the mother says things like, is it true that you sing
benna in Sunday school?...don t sing benna in Sunday school, (8 11) she is only trying to pass down
culture. Because the mother tells her daughter not to sing benna in Sunday school, it is perceived that
it is of the mother s culture to not sing benna in Sunday school, so she does not want her daughter to

Compare And Differences Of Ancient Greece And The Roman...
Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire two civilizations that have so much in common but are yet so
vastly different. Both civilizations have seen their fair share of their empires rise and fall. Greece and
Roman today are both tourist places that we visit for the history they provide from hundreds of years
ago. Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire both seem to be founded and perspired due to some type
of water system helping them. Ancient Greece used the Mediterranean Seas new channels for trade.
Also, Greece used ships to help conquer nearby islands, which in return made them very vulnerable to
ground invasions. The Roman Empire was founded on the Tiber River for a trade post. Around 509 44
BCE Romans conquered and seemed to dominate the entire Mediterranean Sea basin. Both
civilizations found that the seas can help them conquer and control other civilizations. (Acrobatiq,
2017) Ancient Greece used a writing system call Linear B, which is short of similar to Linear A.
Linear B used syllabic signs, (composed of logograms, a base 10 number system, and short vertical
lines to separate words), to communicate messages a total of 87 in all. Originally this writing format
was thought to be influenced by the Minoans. Then a British linguist and cryptologist found that the
language was Indo European based, not Minoan who used the Linear A system instead. Ancient
Greece is part of the origins of philosophy or the love of wisdom . Greeks had a tradition of

Comparing Jack And Ralph In Lord Of The Flies By William...
In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the two main characters shine through the novel, Jack and
Ralph. I chose these characters because they are easily contrastable, but also have a few similarities.
They also have striking strengths and weaknesses in their character. Likewise, Jack and Ralph both
have leadership qualities. They are also some of the most real characters in the novel in my opinion.
However, Jack is very selfish, while Ralph cares for the survival of all on the island. To begin, both of
them have strengths and weaknesses. As for Ralph s strengths, he has great leadership qualities as
shown on page 12, We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting, they ll come when they hear us

Jack is very arrogant, and is used to being in charge. This is seen on page 19, I ought to be cheif, said
Jack with simple arrogance, because I m chapter chorsiter and head boy. I can sing C sharp. (Pg. 19).
Jack is very entitled and expects to be the chief, even though his qualifications weren t exactly fitting
for this kind of leadership. Also, Jack is very selfish, this is seen on page 199, The cheif led them,
trotting steadily, exulting in his achievement. He was a chief now in truth; and he made stabbing
motions wth his spear. From his left hand dangled Piggy s broken glasses. (pg. 199). Jack had no
regard for the fact that Piggy can t see without his glasses, and he only cared about getting fire for
himself and those who follow him. He could of just asked the other tribe for some of their fire, but
instead he stole something essential to Piggy for his own, personal, selfish gain. Next, Jack does have
some strengths to his character. Earlier on in the book he has common sense, and knows when to
respect the common votes of the other boys on the island. This is seen on page 20, Even the choir
appaulded; and the freckles on Jack s face disappeared under a blush of mortifcation. He started up,
then changed his mind and sat down again while the air rang. (pg. 20). Also, Jack knew how to
perseude the boys to join him. This is seen on page 164, Listen all of you. Me and my hunters, we re

Benefits Of Turmeric Tea
Turmeric Tea
Turmeric is a popular spice in Asian countries, including India, where it is used as a coloring agent in
a variety of curries and soups. It is also a common ingredient in the Western world and large amounts
of it can be found in mustard, though not many people realize it. Turmeric has far reaching health
benefits; unfortunately, they are often outweighed by the toxic ingredients with which the spice is
usually mixed. If you want to get the health benefits of turmeric without having to fill your body with

The ceremonial brewing of oolong tea is referred to as gongfucha and can be quite a tedious affair,
seeing the leaves steeped multiple times before consumption is permitted.
Thankfully, you don t have to worry about following the exhausting rules of gongfucha at seven in the
morning, when you re bleary eyed and struggling to remain upright.
Oolong tea can be easily brewed by adding two teaspoons of tea for every 200 milliliters of water. The
water should not have reached boiling point, but should be a good 200 degrees Fahrenheit before the
leaves are added. The leaves should be steeped for ten minutes before drinking (maybe a little less,
depending on personal preference).
Acquiring teas from foreign countries can often prove a little pricy, but oolong tea is uniquely
economical. High quality oolong tea leaves can be used and reused, surviving multiple brewings
without any loss of flavor. In fact, the taste of oolong leaves is said to improve as more brewings

Scientific Methods Are Important When Studying The Natural...
Scientific methods are important when studying the natural world. This is because it is essential to
understand the methods in which discoveries were made in order to make new discoveries from the
data already presented. Understanding scientific methods is essential when studying all types of
science. The scientific method important because it helps establish a common denominator with all
scientific research. It is not a fixed path, but it creates a general form for scientists to follow when
making scientific investigations. There can always be unexpected data and the natural world may
surpass the general form that the scientific method provides, but it is still a useful tool for scientists to
use (Tarbuc Lutgens, 2015). Following the scientific method in general make it easier for future
scientists to understand what happened and why in an experiment. The different steps of the general
scientific method give scientists a great outline to follow when making scientific inquiries about the
natural world.
In order to understand the scientific method fully, it is necessary to know the different steps. There are
six steps: ask a question, do background research, construct a hypothesis, test your hypothesis by dong
an experiment, analyze your data and draw a conclusion, and communicate your results (Science
Buddies, 2002). These steps are very general, but can be very useful to follow in order to make sure
data is not lost. On the next page is a diagram showing the steps in

paperwork to be done; therefore, they might dedicate less attention to subjects as Ethic, Plagiarism,
Honor Code, etc. In addition, a certain nervousness may arise, as they begin to study or hear about
these concepts, due to the complexity. Things get worse when orientations are missed, because the
information that can help make the transition easier is omitted.
With this guide, I intended to provide a short summary, highlighting topics and tools that students
should focus in the beginning, and this can be to some extent more helpful for those who have been
out of the school for a long time or are coming from a different educational system.
The topics recommended in the project included, Honor Code, Graduate Student Handbook, citation

Alice Parker Rhyme Scheme
In an incendiary blend of form and deep meaning, Parker is able to relay a precautionary tale to
modern women about modern love through a cynical synopsis that forewarns her readers to shield
themselves from naivety. Parker uses a conventional rhyme scheme (ABABAB) to frame the portrait
of her image of modern romance for her reader, and when read aloud it sounds like a lullaby of sorts.
Mr. Player drew my attention to the irony in Parker s rhyme scheme, for when read aloud it sounds
like a sing songy nursery rhyme yet carries a substantially more serious message. Her diction is
simplified, yet astutely worded to convey a concise message to her reader. As Mr. Player read this
aloud, I envisioned the poem as dialogue of three speakers. In her

The Epidemic Of The Measles Epidemic
With the effective work carried out by all agencies involved in the measles epidemic, the outbreak was
declared over on July 2rd 2013 this is thought to have been a short time frame and could of lasted a lot
longer if it wasn t for the commitment and combined efforts provided by all agencies including
primary care, local authorities, health boards and public health wales (BBC, 2013).
Without statutory requirements and an emergency procedure in place this type of virus could have
shaped the outcome of this crisis very differently, luckily there was a high level of service provision
and resources available which included training, staffing numbers. Having the essential resources
enabled close monitoring of reported cases of the measles virus could be carried out by all staff in the
health protection team, central health protection division and the communicable disease surveillance
centre. Monitoring also included a wider surveillance of both notified and confirmed cases, situation
updates were distributed to members of the measles Senior Response Team and headline figures were
also provided to the welsh government.
Figures were issued to the public via a press release twice weekly to ensure the public were aware of
the severity of the outbreak and to show a pro active approach.
Released information of confirmed cases was broken down by age group and area this was to coincide
with the press release each week, and to provide accurate updated information.

Hard To Find Misfit
To start with, A Good Man is Hard to Find is one of her many stories that is based on the grace of God
and the characters beliefs that shape the story. O Connor always focuses on two main characters that
interact with each other. The first and main character is the grandmother. In the Deep South of the mid
1900s the grandmother, living with her sons family, is described as, narrow minded and opinionated
(Kaplan 1589). Having a strong religious background. She believes she is, a good christian and a good
judge of character (Kaplan 1589),and because of this she is a good person. A good man who resembles

Diagnostic Lab
Problem Statement
Cell filtration is often necessary for diagnostic lab tests. One example of this is for cystic fibrosis
patients. Individuals with cystic fibrosis often get lung infections due to the thick mucus in their lungs.
In order to prescribe antibiotics for these lung infections, a bacterial culture needs to be performed,
which requires bacterial samples to be separated from the thick mucus of sputum. Passive filtration is
the most commonly used type of filtration in cell sorting for diagnostic purposes and extorts cells
physical properties (Yoon et al., 2016). Dead end filtration is a form of passive filtration where the
filtrate is added perpendicularly to the filter (Yoon et al., 2016). While dead end filtration is relatively
easy to perform, larger particles can block the filter, stopping the flow of filtrate through the filter.
This blockage problem causes dead end filtration to be underutilized (Mugnier, Howell, Ruf, 2000). It
has been shown that a cycle of forward and backward flushes can dislodge larger particles from the
filter allowing more of the smaller particles to rush through the filter pores (Smith, Vigneswaran, Ngo,
Ben Aim, Nguyen, 2005) but what percentage of backward flush is most efficient in a duty cycle with
a constant amount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Moses and the Burning Bush Essay
Two men are walking to temple. The older man says to the younger man, So, do you know why the
Jewish people aren t voting for President Bush? The younger man replies with an inquisitive No. Well,
says the older man, the last time the Jewish people followed a Bush they wound up wandering in the
Desert.
This recent political joke is in reference to the Exodus story of Moses and the burning bush. As stated
in the bible it reads:
Moses was tending the flock of Jethro, his father in law, the priest of Midian. He led the flock far into
the wilderness and came to Horev, the mountain of Elohim. The angel of YHVH appeared to him in a

In the mountains of the central Sinai range, he saw the vision of the burning bush that ordered him, by
God, to return to Egypt and deliver his people from the harsh life of slavery instilled by the Pharaoh.
The Zohar, supposedly written by the Spanish Jewish Mystic Moses de Leon, presents some
interesting additions to the excerpt from Exodus chapter 3. Several hundred years ago, de Leon passed
around booklets of teachings and tales never heard or seen before by others of his community. De
Leon claimed to others that he had only copied the information from an ancient book of wisdom
written by a well known teacher of the second century who lived in Israel, Rabbi Shim on son of
Yohai. According to de Leon, after Rabbi Shim on s death the book became a secret and was handed
down to only a select few, including himself , and felt that he was to share the age old secrets by
copying portions from the original book and selling them. When a young man named Isaac son of
Samuel heard of the secret midrash teachings of Rabbi Shim on he began a search for de Leon. After
finding deLeon in Valladolid, Spain, Isaac agreed to meet with de Leon in Avila to view the secret
manuscript. However during his journey to Avila, Moses de Leon fell ill and died. When Isaac heard

Advantages Of Raising Taxes On The Rich
Raising Taxes on the Rich
The United Sates debt and deficit is a major problem in our society. One thing I would propose to the
President would be to tax the rich. It is useful to keep in mind how the rich and the poor are different.
When you are poor, you are willing to trade your time to earn money. When you are rich, you trade
your money to get time. For example, the rich hire people to do stuff for them like cleaning their
homes and doing other stuff for them they don t want to do or they don t have time to do it. In my
opinion instead of raising taxes on the rich those taxes should remain the same. Hey should pay
whatever they have to pay, but they should not receive more than what they paid. The rich people
should be treated equal as any other person no matter how poor or how rich they are.
We had many tax problems even before this started. We had tax problems even before we were born.
A brief history of the taxes in the United States was that the American Revolution kick started by a
rebellion against British taxation policy in the 1760s. The newly independent US collects taxes on
imports (tariffs), whiskey, and (for a time) on glass windows. States and localities introduce a poll tax,
which applies to voters, and a tax on property. State and federal inheritance taxes start after 1900.
States impose sales taxes in the 1930s. Income taxes are imposed temporarily during the Civil War,
but it is not until 1913 that they are brought in on an indefinite basis. Even in the

Suspense In Way Up To Heaven
In the stories Live to Tell , Interlopers , and Way Up to Heaven the shared literary element is suspense
which gets developed through imagery. Each of these stories is unique in their own way. However
they all have one thing in common, suspense. Through settings and characters the authors develop a
great sense of tension and suspense which keeps the reader interested.
Suspense plays in important role in Live to Tell because it builds the mood and helps dramatize the
story to get the point across. This story has wonderful imagery that helps with adding more effect to
the suspense of the story. Then the sound I don t want to hear the whap whap of his bare feet slapping

Essay On The Kingdom Of Dendi
After this defeat the Morroccon s first sacked the city of Gao and went on to raid the cities of Djenne
and Timbuktu. This effectively brought an end to a unifed power and the Empire of Songhai and split
into numerous separate and independent kingdoms. The Empire of Songhai had been one of the largest
empires in the world controlling a vast geographical territory. However when the Kingdom of
Morrocco attempted to mange the region they soon fell into problems and had to endure constant
rebellions. As a consequence their victory was shortlived and by 1661 AD they withdrew from the
region.
The Kingdom of Dendi
The Empire of Songhai established the Kingdom of Dendi in 1591 AD. The Kingdom of Dendi was
established in the area of modern day Niger near to the Niger River. The capital of the Kingdom of

Introduction . Salt, Scientifically Referred To As Halite,
Introduction
Salt, scientifically referred to as Halite, is chemical composition of Sodium and Chlorine minerals. It s
presence in the everyday lives of individuals is incalculable; Salt is evidently prevalent in our diet and
methods used for food preservation, however, salt is surprisingly present in other elements of our lives
as significant as language. This essay will appreciate the various roles that salt plays along with the
risks that are attached to the ingestion of this particle. Additionally, this paper will outline the history
of salt with specific emphasis placed on its extraction processes, and its influences on the English
language.

The salt bed is subsequently blasted, crushed, and broken into smaller pieces which are brought to the
surface for processing and finessing. The mining of salt beds results in rock salt which is used
primarily as a highway de icer (Kostick 2004). Alternatively, mechanical evaporation occurs through
the vacuum pan process. As described in the article introduced above by Kostick (2004), this energy
conserving process begins with a salt saturated brine which is brought to a boil, rectangular pans with
steam heated immersion coils are used to facilitate the evaporation process (Kostick, 2004). Once the
evaporation occurs, rotating rakes collect the salt and the extracted product is laid out to dry. The
mechanical evaporation of salt saturated solution results in flake shaped salt, often used for cheeses,
butter, and baked goods as described in Kostick (2004).
In the same article, written by Kostick (2004), the author states that the extraction of sea salt requires
an entirely unique process called solar evaporation. Halite isn t the only mineral present in sea water,
because of this, each mineral must be separated from the water in order to extract the salt. First,
seawater is collected distributed in ponds that function to concentrate and ultimately evaporate the
minerals within the water. The brine is subsequently circulated across a multiplicity of interconnected
ponds with the salinity increasing as it transfers

Essay on Working Class
This article entitled The Honest Workingman and Workers Control: The Experience of Toronto Skilled
Workers, 1860 1892 written by Gregory S. Kealey looks to better describe the practice of three
Toronto unions from the 1860 s to the early 1890 s and their struggles for their rights and deserved
wages in order to illustrate the strength these types of unions possess. This article recognizes that there
are industries where unions win, and still must rely on skilled labour. Many times people hear the term
industrialization and think that all craft workers get blown away, however this is not exactly the case
as this article demonstrates. Kealey looks at three separate cases in three separate industries to identify

Labour unions played a great role in the battle between the capitalist world and the labourers who
wanted their rights to stay intact. In the Toronto moulding department, the union s claim to control
was the central issue being discussed. Many attempts at strikes were mentioned resulting in major
struggles for the working class. Eventually, there industry wide agreements in stove foundries, but
until this the strength of the moulders depended solely on their skill and control of the work process
through their union. The Iron Moulders differed from the Coopers in that they maintained a high level
of workplace control into the twentieth century. This was mainly due to the strength of their
organization, but also relied on the slower introduction of machinery to replace physical workers in
this industry, and therefore the workers had time to perfect their craft before the machines arrived.
(Kealey, 1976) The third, and probably most supportive case given by Kealey is that of the Toronto
printer s industry and union, with their control of the shop floor demonstrating early union power.
These printers had a very strong tradition of craft pride and identified well with their work. It was
obvious that you had to be literate to be involved in printing, and therefore these printing trades were
very exclusive, and to belong you needed to show a great deal of intelligence and knowledge. Because
of this, printers in these

The Between Greek And Egyptian Civilizations
The Earth has been around for a long time. Humans have been around for a long time. America has
been around for a long time. However, these long times are on vastly different timescales, and are not
even close to being comparable to each other. To human minds, however, it would seem as though
anything beyond the scope of their lifetime blends into a series of events on a page. The years before
their birth sticking together into an amalgam of history, distorted beyond recognition. We place
prominence on events which have taken place recently, while discounting the vast eons between the
ages of the distant past. It may seem as though an eternity has passed between now and 1945 for the
centenarian, but even the oldest amongst us would see the time between the foundation of the greek
and egyptian civilizations as having a length much less than the 2500 years that separate the two. Two
varieties of ancient hominids may seem to be virtually contemporaries, when they are in actuality over
a million years of evolution removed from one another. Humans have many methods to describe large
numbers mathematically. Ever since the invention of the concept of zero essential to the ancients in
keeping good records of various transactions humans have been using mathematics to describe ever
larger quantities of items. The ancient story of the king and the chessboard of wheat demonstrates that
humans have been using large numbers since time immemorial. In the story, a king tells a

especially important because if an application within the network is compromised, it could be utilized

The disease spread through eight districts in the Chinese and Mongol dynasties. The deaths were so
severe that some areas didn t even have time to bury all the bodies, so they just stacked them up

By the time the ships landed in Messina. Most of the crew members on the ships were either dead or

locals that looted from the ships helped the disease spread even further. By 1348 the disease spread all
the way to Genoa and Venice. Then the disease went from Italy and spread northwest France, Spain,
Portugal, and England by June 1348. This is a rapid spread rate since six countries in less than a year.
Although the disease was not yet done with Europe, it then spread east through Germany and
Scandinavia through 1350. The last stop in Europe was Russia in 1351. The last stop for the Black

Childhood Obesity In The United States
The Problems of Obesity
Childhood obesity is a source of great debate in the United States. Many studies have shown the
problem has become epidemic. Adults in the United States are increasing in weight and so are children
and teenagers. Many factors are contributing to this growing problem. The influence parents have on
their children can affect them negatively. Children of overweight parents are more likely to be
overweight themselves. Another issue adding to the childhood obesity problem is the fact that children
and teens have more options when it comes to food choices. School lunches, vending machines, and
cheap calorie packed snacks all contribute to this issue. Healthy foods are also more expensive and not
as readily available as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) is working to rid America of this issue by holding activities and
initiatives, and signed on to the Harkin/Murkowski School Nutrition Amendment to the Farm Bill.
This amendment was not included in the bill. Another bill has been introduced called the Fitness
Integrated with Teaching Kids Act or the Fit Kids Act. The act will require one hundred and fifty
minutes of PE per week for elementary schools and two hundred and twenty five minutes per week in
middle and high schools (What is Being Done About the Rising Childhood Obesity Epidemic?). This
bill still has yet to be voted on and shows a prognosis of one percent of being enacted (S.1033: FIT

Essay about Predicting Voting Behavior
Predicting Voting Behavior
Voting behaviour is increasingly hard to predict because of the variables that ultimately affect it, these
being class, gender, age, ethnicity and regional locality. It is the job of a political scientist to weigh up
these factors along with public opinion on major and current issues such as the Health Service, Crime
etc. In addition to these they will look at past elections and their statistics to determine the possible
result of an imminent election.
Research in the 1950 s and 60 s in Britain and the USA indicates that all the factors that might
contribute to a persons voting behaviour such as religion, gender, age and regional locality; social
class was by far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However this was put under massive dispute throughout the sixties and early seventies until nineteen
seventy nine where the conservatives were found to have major success in the general elections
because of high amounts of working class votes and the theory was suggested correct. Whatever the
reasons the Conservatives won the working class vote the theory did not account for the drop in
middle class voters.
Ultimately unless the parties fall into a trend whereby one is totally right wing and the other left wing
it will be very hard to predict or stereotype people to a political party just because of their class or
position in society.
Gender is out of the five categories, the most hard to base any conclusions from since the nineteen
ninety seven elections. This is because from the statistics there is very little gender differences in party
choice. Previously gender was attributed for one of the reasons for party choice; the majority of
women voting in the UK in the four elections between nineteen seventy nine and nineteen ninety two
voted Conservative than they did for any other party. This is slightly ironic because the Conservative
party was in fact the worst represented in terms of female MP s out of the major forerunners being
Labour and The Liberal Democrats. The complete disappearance of the

The Maze Runner Research Paper
THE MAZE RUNNER
I ll say straight away that this isn t a bad film, there are definitely a lot worse and it isn t the worst of
2014 either. But it just isn t that good either, if i could ve given this 3 and a half stars I would ve, but
we re stuck with 3. The Maze Runner didn t interest me when it was released in cinema, I hadn t heard
the greatest reviews about it, just mediocre things, and seeing the trailer it didn t really stand out to me
personally. For the record I haven t read the books either, so I can t compare book to film like a lot of
people are able to. When walking around HMV, as I do, I saw it and thought I d give it a try, and I ll
say this, it wasn t as bad as I thought it was going to be, it s a lot better then the Divergent ... Show

It s fun to see it changing all the time, gives some intense scenes, the way that the runners traverse
through it is great to watch. The environment in which Thomas is thrown into at the start, the camp if
you will, looks amazing, especially on blu ray and you can tell that they ve been there a while and
have learned to live amongst each other. I ve mentioned which characters I like and dislike, but the
bond that they all have seems pretty legit and not forced onto the screen in front of you.
Unfortunately the ending was pretty poor, I ve heard people mention this and I ll repeat it but, they
basically tell you to your face oh yeah, there will be a second film just so you know , they couldn t
have been more blatant about it! The last 15 minutes were boring for me , where this movie is at it s
best is the start, before the girl comes into it, and some scenes in the middle which I don t want to
spoil for those who haven t seen it. I ve mentioned how the flashbacks bothered me. And the script can
be pretty laughable at times, but that s about it.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Essay
The finite life humans live has always been a sensitive topic to bring forth in a conversation luckily
there are different kinds of works that attempt to teach an understanding of how to confront the topic.
Emphasized by shadows and clock imagery, Walt Disney s Alice through the Looking Glass and
Dylan Thomas poem Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night explore the question of a finite life how
to accept it and how to move forward from it. The film Alice Through the Looking Glass portrays
shadow and clock imagery from denial to acceptance and the promise of a new life all throughout its
scenes. Alice Kingsley begins to embark on yet another quest and is once again reunited with her

Thomas wrote this poem while being aware that his father was dying of cancer and brilliantly creates
the realistic situation most individual s battle coming to terms with human living a finite life. The first
tone in Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night reflects Thomas refusal to accept that his father is
dying. Through repetition and the usage of metaphors, Thomas makes it clear that he will fight with
all his strength to motivate his father to continue fighting against the illness and live. Thomas begins
the poem by stating, Do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rave at the close of
day; rage, rage against the dying of the light (L.1 3). In the aforementioned lines, it s through the
syntactical usage of the metaphor night and repetition of the word rage that allow Thomas to use a few
lines to help his father understand that he should not go down without a fight. According to Theodore
Ryan, the publisher of Analysis of Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night , Thomas sees life as a day
death is the closing of the day, and the dying of light as a shadow approaching to take his father s life (
Ryan Web). Theodore Ryan s analysis of the poem help the reader understand the metaphors Thomas
uses and why he wants his father to rage against the dying of

Thomas Test During the Thomas test, the patient is lying supine (Face up) on the table, the examiner is

Historiography Of The British Empire
Any historiography of The British Raj must first start with the understanding that The British Raj fits
within the broader historic concept of The British Empire. In the late 19th Century, many historians
proposed that the history of The British Empire could be broken down into The First British Empire
and The Second British Empire. The British Raj falls within the category of The Second British
Empire within this view. The previous British involvement in India, via The East India Company,
would largely fall within First British Empire. The opinions of historians, not any official decree by
British law or authorities, are the basis for the concept of multiple periods of The British Empire.
There was never an official start, or end date, for either period of empire. The British Empire was
never an official entity, as in there was not a document or constitution dictating how it was
administered. As a result, the colonial administrations varied depending on the colony to which they
belonged. The views on The British Empire, during its height, were not a single monolithic view
shared by all British citizens, but varied across the full spectrum from unwavering support to strong
opposition. Joseph Chamberlain s 1897 book The True Conception of Empire provides an excellent
quote that sums up a common mindset of the era. We feel now that our rule over these territories can
only be justified if we can show that it adds to the happiness and prosperity of the people,

What Is Male Dominance In The Yellow Wallpaper
Introduction
Charlotte Perkins Gilman is an author, but also a well known feminist who believed that
heterosexuality had become the means by which men subjected women through an economic
dependency . (feminism 1) Throughout my research there is one word that best describes the era of a
male dominated and controlled society, Patriarch! During this period of male dominance, Gilman
wrote The Yellow Wallpaper to prove a point and to get Dr. Weir Mitchell to change his ways. (3).
Gilman suffered from neurasthenic, melancholia, suicidal depression and after the birth of her child
post partum depression. Gilman was a patient of Dr. Mitchell and was prescribed the Rest Cure ,
which is to rest and never write again. Gilman follows the recommended prescription for a month but
found it was weakening her intellect. The Yellow Wallpaper was written during the time of a
patriarchal society and the reader becomes witness to male dominance. The male dominance in The
Yellow Wallpaper represses the narrator s ability to control her own mental health.

The Failure of Technology in White Noise by Don Delillo...
The Failure of Technology in White Noise by Don Delillo
One particularly unfortunate trait of modern society is our futile attempt to use technology to
immunize ourselves against the fear of death. The failure of technology in this regard is the general
subject of Don Delillo s book White Noise. Throughout this novel, technology is depicted as the
ominous messenger of our common fate, an increasing sense of dread over loss of control of our lives
and the approach of inevitable death in spite of the empty promises of technology. In this essay I will
examine Delillo s portrayal of technology and its role in our society.

Jack Gladney is on his fifth marriage and his fourth wife, and his world is filled with the clutter of
everyday life, with four children around the house and an uneasy sense of normalcy . Delillo,
however, exposes how absurd what we consider to be normal really is in our technology dependent
society and our compulsive desire to have machines save us from ourselves and reaffirm our personal
identities:
In the morning I walked to the bank. I went to the automated teller machine to check my balance. I
inserted my card, entered my secret code, tapped out my request. The figure on the screen roughly
corresponded to my independent estimate, feebly arrived at after long searches through documents,
tormented arithmetic. Waves of relief and gratitude flowed over me. The system had blessed my life. I
felt its support and approval. The system hardware, the mainframe sitting in a locked room in some
distant city. What a pleasing interaction. I sensed that something of deep personal value, but not
money, not that at all, had been authenticated and confirmed (42).
One day an industrial accident occurs and a lethal black chemical cloud descends upon the town. Jack
is forced to stop and fill up his tank as his family attempts to comply with the evacuation orders. In
those few minutes he is exposed to the cloud and the looming black cloud as a metaphor of death takes
on a new significance. Jack is told that in about thirty years the doctors will be able to

Mouse is also a device that can fit in everyone s hand palm with comfortably. (Shelly et al. 2005) The

Examples Of Heroism In Beowulf
Heroism and Its Adaptation Over Time (Prompt #3)
Heroism is defined as great bravery, but there are many interpretations of what great bravery truly
signifies. Over time the image of heroism is altered to conform to cultural beliefs and morals. Often
times, heroes are written into poems, or stories to set an exceptionally high standard and become a role
model for people in their time period. In the famous epic, Beowulf, the ideal hero is portrayed as a
superior warrior who is able to overcome unthinkable means. This proposal of a warrior as a hero did
not last long in history, however. As times changed, people developed different values and beliefs that
transformed a hero from a warrior to a saint. In today s world, a hero is considered as ... Show more

As new religions develop and spread, people began to form a new idea of perfection. As the new
image of an ideal hero was formed, poems, books, and such were written to set example for how
people should act in their day and age. The reason that these heroes change over time more
specifically is due to their lifestyles. In ancient times, people required different traits to be successful.
Due to the warring lifestyle that was existent during the writing of texts such as Beowulf, heroes were
modeled to be great fighters. This is also consistent with other ancient heroes such as Achilles in
Greek Mythology; however, this changed over time as religions were established and people became
more civilized. Religion gave people a more positive outlook on life and ended much of the barbarian
lifestyle. The new idea of a hero developed into a righteous god fearing person; so, saints became the
newfound role models. Saints are still seen as heroes today, but much more sparsely. This can be
accredited to various events in history including the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation. With the
Renaissance came an increase in individualistic thinking, and so on the entire root of modern day
heroism. People of all types began highly regarding artists and philosophers, longing to be of their
caliber. With the colonization of the Americas also came a new type of hero. Adventurers such as
Christopher Columbus were praised received glory for their accomplishment. Jumping forward to
today, heroes are labeled daily for their acts of bravery and quick thinking abilities that save lives.
Everyday individuals such as pilot Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot that crash landed into the Hudson
River, are remembered as heroes for saving lives, as stated many times that He was hailed as a
national hero (Chesley). Not only is the word hero used in relation to real events, but fictional
characters are also dubbed as heroes in modern

  • 2. Technological Experience in Electronics I have experienced and learned many things about electronics since I was 12. My father taught me many things about electronic devices. When I was young, before the age of 12, I enjoyed observing my father as he worked on damaged electronic devices. As I got older, my curiosity became immense and I started to ask many questions. At first, I got to unscrew the object with screwdrivers. In the article How to Use a Screwdriver by an eHow contributor instructed that rotating the screwdriver clockwise would insert the screw. If you rotate the screwdriver counter clockwise it would remove the screw. I still remember how to insert and remove a screw with a screwdriver until this day. Then my father would eventually explain the components of the devices and how to distinguish similar or relatively alike components. Some simple examples are capacitors, which are shaped differently according to their functionality. The Basic Electronics Tutorials explained the Capacitor, sometimes referred to as a Condenser, is a simple passive device that is used to store electricity . There are many types of capacitors on a circuit board which can be distinguished by sizes or its relative area that s on the board. There are electrolytic, film, dielectric and ceramic capacitor. Most electronics use electrolytic capacitors. Capacitors are usually wrapped with a plastic label. When a capacitor malfunction and burn, the heat would also burns the plastic label and the label would become ruined ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Deviance Essay Deviance is what is considered a violation of cultural norms, and is something that is frowned upon due to social norms. Society attempts to regulate people s thoughts and behaviors for social control. There is a huge connection between the two because deviance varies with cultural norms, people become deviant when others define them as such and both norms and the definition given involve social power. Lets take the example of Brent Staple; new to New York, and was a graduate student who had been an avid nightwalker. Mr. Staples became painfully aware that society had seen him as deviant, because when they looked at him all they saw was a black man wearing bulky clothes late at night walking around ready to attack someone. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So to sum that all up categories, labels and boundary lines are constructed so that social groups can maintain a norm and they believe allows for a functioning society. You have racially motivated deviant boundary lines so that social groups can segregate themselves from others to have power over each other. So why do social groups label and categorize people as deviant based off of race? Labeling someone as deviant because of race is away for society to try and strengthening themselves as racially segregated groups. For example if a group of whites label a group of blacks as outcasts or deviants it gives them social control and power. Another reason why social groups construct boundary lines, labels and categorizes is because that is their way of keeping society functioning and keeping people within the norms of what we know as normal and abnormal. If society cannot outcast people then we have no hierarchy and no power. With Brent Staples he was feeling as an outsider, seeing fear from people because of his race, his gender, his clothing as well as the fact he was out late walking around. In my opinion society is taking away his power of freedom to be comfortable doing what many other people were doing at night walking around, they took away his power to feel whole as an individual. All of these factors gave the people around him the idea that he was something to be feared. It made him feel that he needed to change, to conform to society so he would not be ... European Union (EU) plays a major part in facing this Greek financial debt crisis, which requires a major restructuring in the economic sector and to tighten stronger integration among EU member country. The primary focal point is on restoring the sustainability of public finances and addressing other macroeconomic imbalances by fostering fiscal discipline. In addition, new rules are set to ensure stronger and more effective economic governance, particularly in the euro zone area, with adequate mechanisms to monitor progress and ensure enforcement. Aspects that counselors must consider include whether the child has the capacity to learn, obtain insight, and the ability to develop a relationship with an adult. The purpose of play therapy relates to exploring and expressing feelings, gain knowledge about self and others, strengthen problem solving and decision making skills, in addition to increasing the child s sense of competence and self efficacy. • 6. Essay on Analyis of Knowledge of a Possibility by JUllary... The value of literature as a source of knowledge is a timeless debate that varies depending on how knowledge is defined. I will adopt Hillary Putnam s theory of Knowledge of a Possibility (Putnam 488) in Literature Science, and Reflection (1976), and focus on the value of literature as a source of conceptual knowledge. The emergence of the novel brought with it conventions for a more realistic writing style that aimed to appeal to the common readers. Variations of the degree of realism ranged from writing that tried to present a fully authentic experience of life, known as Formal Realism, and writing that offers some authentic aspects of life but also conserves characteristics of classic genres of epics and romances. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The criterion for knowledge is rather complex and Putnam addresses literary knowledge in both the empirical and conceptual elements (Putnam 488). On the one hand, there are the conceptual elements of knowledge, those that can be considered knowledge of possibility (Putnam 488) that allow us to think of new possibilities through conceptual discovery (Putnam 488). Conceptual knowledge allows readers to get a sense of what something is like or provide insight to another person s beliefs. There are not necessarily claims to truth in this form of knowledge, but in some instances the hypotheses we obtain from literature may be tested confirmed through personal experience, and consequently may be confirmed or falsified. On the other hand there is empirical knowledge, which is gained through observations, scientific experimentation, and evidence. In this context, Putnam rejects the ability of literature to provide readers with empirical knowledge. In his example about The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing, Putnam suggests that the book provides knowledge of what it was like to be a communist in the 1940s (Putnam 489) but offers a disclaimer you may say to yourself this is what it must have been like; but...you have no right to say I know what this is what it was like (Putnam 489). Despite this distinction, Putnam still asserts the value of knowledge in literature Dorris ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Banks find it an unprofitable proposition to serve people who make less than three dollars per day, Rangan says. Still, WIZZIT s founders thought there was a noble and viable business model in bringing banking to the poor, via a mobile banking platform that could be used on even the most primitive cell phone. They succeeded in finding an engineer to develop the platform, but quickly ran into a major regulatory roadblock. Per the South African government, only licensed banks were allowed to take deposits. In the prose poem Girl, by Jamaica Kincaid, a mother writes out a guide her daughter must follow in order to succeed in her adult years. This poem that the mother has written for her daughter is better seen as a guide to adulthood due to her use of an extremely long run on sentence and choice of diction. The run on sentence consists of a list of commands like this is how you sweep a corner; this is how you sweep a whole house; this is how you sweep a yard (22 24). • 11. Compare And Differences Of Ancient Greece And The Roman... Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire two civilizations that have so much in common but are yet so vastly different. Both civilizations have seen their fair share of their empires rise and fall. Greece and Roman today are both tourist places that we visit for the history they provide from hundreds of years ago. Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire both seem to be founded and perspired due to some type of water system helping them. Ancient Greece used the Mediterranean Seas new channels for trade. Also, Greece used ships to help conquer nearby islands, which in return made them very vulnerable to ground invasions. The Roman Empire was founded on the Tiber River for a trade post. Around 509 44 BCE Romans conquered and seemed to dominate the entire Mediterranean Sea basin. Both civilizations found that the seas can help them conquer and control other civilizations. (Acrobatiq, 2017) Ancient Greece used a writing system call Linear B, which is short of similar to Linear A. Linear B used syllabic signs, (composed of logograms, a base 10 number system, and short vertical lines to separate words), to communicate messages a total of 87 in all. Originally this writing format was thought to be influenced by the Minoans. Then a British linguist and cryptologist found that the language was Indo European based, not Minoan who used the Linear A system instead. Understanding scientific methods is essential when studying all types of science. The scientific method important because it helps establish a common denominator with all scientific research. It is not a fixed path, but it creates a general form for scientists to follow when making scientific investigations. There can always be unexpected data and the natural world may surpass the general form that the scientific method provides, but it is still a useful tool for scientists to use (Tarbuc Lutgens, 2015). Following the scientific method in general make it easier for future scientists to understand what happened and why in an experiment. The different steps of the general scientific method give scientists a great outline to follow when making scientific inquiries about the natural world. In order to understand the scientific method fully, it is necessary to know the different steps. There are six steps: ask a question, do background research, construct a hypothesis, test your hypothesis by dong an experiment, analyze your data and draw a conclusion, and communicate your results (Science Buddies, 2002). These steps are very general, but can be very useful to follow in order to make sure data is not lost. On the next page is a diagram showing the steps in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Weed Science Project Project Description: The project consisted in a quick guide that can be used as an emergency kit for new graduate students within the Plant Pathology, Physiology, and Weed Science Department. At the beginning of the program, students tend to become overwhelmed by the information provided through orientations or paperwork to be done; therefore, they might dedicate less attention to subjects as Ethic, Plagiarism, Honor Code, etc. In addition, a certain nervousness may arise, as they begin to study or hear about these concepts, due to the complexity. Things get worse when orientations are missed, because the information that can help make the transition easier is omitted. With this guide, I intended to provide a short summary, highlighting topics and tools that students should focus in the beginning, and this can be to some extent more helpful for those who have been out of the school for a long time or are coming from a different educational system. The topics recommended in the project included, Honor Code, Graduate Student Handbook, citation style, citation and grammar tools, Virginia Tech resources, code of conduct, and a link was included, so they can be easily accessed. ... • 20. Alice Parker Rhyme Scheme In an incendiary blend of form and deep meaning, Parker is able to relay a precautionary tale to modern women about modern love through a cynical synopsis that forewarns her readers to shield themselves from naivety. Parker uses a conventional rhyme scheme (ABABAB) to frame the portrait of her image of modern romance for her reader, and when read aloud it sounds like a lullaby of sorts. Mr. Player drew my attention to the irony in Parker s rhyme scheme, for when read aloud it sounds like a sing songy nursery rhyme yet carries a substantially more serious message. Her diction is simplified, yet astutely worded to convey a concise message to her reader. As Mr. Player read this aloud, I envisioned the poem as dialogue of three speakers. In her ... Without statutory requirements and an emergency procedure in place this type of virus could have shaped the outcome of this crisis very differently, luckily there was a high level of service provision and resources available which included training, staffing numbers. Having the essential resources enabled close monitoring of reported cases of the measles virus could be carried out by all staff in the health protection team, central health protection division and the communicable disease surveillance centre. Monitoring also included a wider surveillance of both notified and confirmed cases, situation updates were distributed to members of the measles Senior Response Team and headline figures were also provided to the welsh government. • 23. Diagnostic Lab Problem Statement Cell filtration is often necessary for diagnostic lab tests. One example of this is for cystic fibrosis patients. Individuals with cystic fibrosis often get lung infections due to the thick mucus in their lungs. In order to prescribe antibiotics for these lung infections, a bacterial culture needs to be performed, which requires bacterial samples to be separated from the thick mucus of sputum. Passive filtration is the most commonly used type of filtration in cell sorting for diagnostic purposes and extorts cells physical properties (Yoon et al., 2016). Dead end filtration is a form of passive filtration where the filtrate is added perpendicularly to the filter (Yoon et al., 2016). While dead end filtration is relatively easy to perform, larger particles can block the filter, stopping the flow of filtrate through the filter. This blockage problem causes dead end filtration to be underutilized (Mugnier, Howell, Ruf, 2000). It has been shown that a cycle of forward and backward flushes can dislodge larger particles from the filter allowing more of the smaller particles to rush through the filter pores (Smith, Vigneswaran, Ngo, Ben Aim, Nguyen, 2005) but what percentage of backward flush is most efficient in a duty cycle with a constant amount ... Several hundred years ago, de Leon passed around booklets of teachings and tales never heard or seen before by others of his community. De Leon claimed to others that he had only copied the information from an ancient book of wisdom written by a well known teacher of the second century who lived in Israel, Rabbi Shim on son of Yohai. • 25. Advantages Of Raising Taxes On The Rich Raising Taxes on the Rich The United Sates debt and deficit is a major problem in our society. One thing I would propose to the President would be to tax the rich. It is useful to keep in mind how the rich and the poor are different. When you are poor, you are willing to trade your time to earn money. When you are rich, you trade your money to get time. For example, the rich hire people to do stuff for them like cleaning their homes and doing other stuff for them they don t want to do or they don t have time to do it. In my opinion instead of raising taxes on the rich those taxes should remain the same. Hey should pay whatever they have to pay, but they should not receive more than what they paid. The rich people should be treated equal as any other person no matter how poor or how rich they are. We had many tax problems even before this started. We had tax problems even before we were born. A brief history of the taxes in the United States was that the American Revolution kick started by a rebellion against British taxation policy in the 1760s. The newly independent US collects taxes on imports (tariffs), whiskey, and (for a time) on glass windows. States and localities introduce a poll tax, which applies to voters, and a tax on property. State and federal inheritance taxes start after 1900. States impose sales taxes in the 1930s. The mining of salt beds results in rock salt which is used primarily as a highway de icer (Kostick 2004). Alternatively, mechanical evaporation occurs through the vacuum pan process. As described in the article introduced above by Kostick (2004), this energy conserving process begins with a salt saturated brine which is brought to a boil, rectangular pans with steam heated immersion coils are used to facilitate the evaporation process (Kostick, 2004). Once the evaporation occurs, rotating rakes collect the salt and the extracted product is laid out to dry. The mechanical evaporation of salt saturated solution results in flake shaped salt, often used for cheeses, butter, and baked goods as described in Kostick (2004). In the same article, written by Kostick (2004), the author states that the extraction of sea salt requires an entirely unique process called solar evaporation. Halite isn t the only mineral present in sea water, because of this, each mineral must be separated from the water in order to extract the salt. First, seawater is collected distributed in ponds that function to concentrate and ultimately evaporate the minerals within the water. Kealey looks to better describe the practice of three Toronto unions from the 1860 s to the early 1890 s and their struggles for their rights and deserved wages in order to illustrate the strength these types of unions possess. This article recognizes that there are industries where unions win, and still must rely on skilled labour. Labour unions played a great role in the battle between the capitalist world and the labourers who wanted their rights to stay intact. In the Toronto moulding department, the union s claim to control was the central issue being discussed. Many attempts at strikes were mentioned resulting in major struggles for the working class. Eventually, there industry wide agreements in stove foundries, but until this the strength of the moulders depended solely on their skill and control of the work process through their union. The Iron Moulders differed from the Coopers in that they maintained a high level of workplace control into the twentieth century. This was mainly due to the strength of their organization, but also relied on the slower introduction of machinery to replace physical workers in this industry, and therefore the workers had time to perfect their craft before the machines arrived. (Kealey, 1976) The third, and probably most supportive case given by Kealey is that of the Toronto printer s industry and union, with their control of the shop floor demonstrating early union power. These printers had a very strong tradition of craft pride and identified well with their work. It was obvious that you had to be literate to be involved in printing, and therefore these printing trades were very exclusive, and to belong you needed to show a great deal of intelligence and knowledge. • 39. Essay about Predicting Voting Behavior Predicting Voting Behavior Voting behaviour is increasingly hard to predict because of the variables that ultimately affect it, these being class, gender, age, ethnicity and regional locality. It is the job of a political scientist to weigh up these factors along with public opinion on major and current issues such as the Health Service, Crime etc. In addition to these they will look at past elections and their statistics to determine the possible result of an imminent election. Research in the 1950 s and 60 s in Britain and the USA indicates that all the factors that might contribute to a persons voting behaviour such as religion, gender, age and regional locality; social class was by far ... However this was put under massive dispute throughout the sixties and early seventies until nineteen seventy nine where the conservatives were found to have major success in the general elections because of high amounts of working class votes and the theory was suggested correct. Whatever the reasons the Conservatives won the working class vote the theory did not account for the drop in middle class voters. Ultimately unless the parties fall into a trend whereby one is totally right wing and the other left wing it will be very hard to predict or stereotype people to a political party just because of their class or position in society. Gender is out of the five categories, the most hard to base any conclusions from since the nineteen ninety seven elections. This is because from the statistics there is very little gender differences in party choice. Previously gender was attributed for one of the reasons for party choice; the majority of women voting in the UK in the four elections between nineteen seventy nine and nineteen ninety two voted Conservative than they did for any other party. This is slightly ironic because the Conservative party was in fact the worst represented in terms of female MP s out of the major forerunners being Labour and The Liberal Democrats. Thomas wrote this poem while being aware that his father was dying of cancer and brilliantly creates the realistic situation most individual s battle coming to terms with human living a finite life. The first tone in Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night reflects Thomas refusal to accept that his father is dying. Through repetition and the usage of metaphors, Thomas makes it clear that he will fight with all his strength to motivate his father to continue fighting against the illness and live. Thomas begins the poem by stating, Do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rave at the close of day; rage, rage against the dying of the light (L.1 3). In the aforementioned lines, it s through the syntactical usage of the metaphor night and repetition of the word rage that allow Thomas to use a few lines to help his father understand that he should not go down without a fight. • 44. Historiography Of The British Empire Any historiography of The British Raj must first start with the understanding that The British Raj fits within the broader historic concept of The British Empire. In the late 19th Century, many historians proposed that the history of The British Empire could be broken down into The First British Empire and The Second British Empire. The British Raj falls within the category of The Second British Empire within this view. The previous British involvement in India, via The East India Company, would largely fall within First British Empire. The opinions of historians, not any official decree by British law or authorities, are the basis for the concept of multiple periods of The British Empire. There was never an official start, or end date, for either period of empire. The British Empire was never an official entity, as in there was not a document or constitution dictating how it was administered. As a result, the colonial administrations varied depending on the colony to which they belonged. The views on The British Empire, during its height, were not a single monolithic view shared by all British citizens, but varied across the full spectrum from unwavering support to strong opposition. Over time the image of heroism is altered to conform to cultural beliefs and morals. Often times, heroes are written into poems, or stories to set an exceptionally high standard and become a role model for people in their time period. In the famous epic, Beowulf, the ideal hero is portrayed as a superior warrior who is able to overcome unthinkable means. This proposal of a warrior as a hero did not last long in history, however. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As new religions develop and spread, people began to form a new idea of perfection. As the new image of an ideal hero was formed, poems, books, and such were written to set example for how people should act in their day and age. The reason that these heroes change over time more specifically is due to their lifestyles. In ancient times, people required different traits to be successful. Due to the warring lifestyle that was existent during the writing of texts such as Beowulf, heroes were modeled to be great fighters. This is also consistent with other ancient heroes such as Achilles in Greek Mythology; however, this changed over time as religions were established and people became more civilized. Religion gave people a more positive outlook on life and ended much of the barbarian lifestyle. The new idea of a hero developed into a righteous god fearing person; so, saints became the newfound role models. Saints are still seen as heroes today, but much more sparsely. This can be accredited to various events in history including the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation. With the Renaissance came an increase in individualistic thinking, and so on the entire root of modern day heroism. People of all types began highly regarding artists and philosophers, longing to be of their caliber. With the colonization of the Americas also came a new type of hero. Adventurers such as Christopher Columbus were praised received glory for their accomplishment. Jumping forward to today, heroes are labeled daily for their acts of bravery and quick thinking abilities that save lives. Everyday individuals such as pilot Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot that crash landed into the Hudson River, are remembered as heroes for saving lives, as stated many times that He was hailed as a national hero (Chesley).
