Social Foundry Case Study
Business Overview
History
The Social Foundry was established as a pilot program in March of 2016. With one participant being
sourced from the Working for the Dole program. During this time, this participant has been employed
working 25 hours per week learning carpentry and woodworking skills. In October of 2016 the Social
Foundry obtained its Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and became a registered public
benevolent institution. In late November 2016, a Development Manager was employed to start the
process of generating funding for this new venture. This role expanded quickly to explore the viability
of this concept being implemented within the Macedon Ranges region, engaging with local
community providers many discussions have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Please refer to (app. 5), the Social Foundry proposition directly tackles this problem by offering an
alternative pathway to further education and workplace training.
Over time we see our model being able to be replicated in numerous forms in many regions
throughout Australia. Currently our focus is limited to woodworking and carpentry, long term it could
be expanded into manufacturing, I.T., customer service, agriculture or food services just to name a
few.
The Social Foundry aims to focus on the needs of the Kyneton community located in the Macedon
Ranges. However, having access to the train line the scope of our demographic can reach as far south
as Gisborne and Castlemaine to the north.
Shortly the Social Foundry will be hiring a Head of Operations who will be overseeing the mentoring
program for our participants. We will also be establishing a strong presence in the centre of Kyneton
establishing a workshop where goods will be produced. This area will also act as a community
resource where we have partnered with Moto Bean Coffee Roasters. We will be creating a place in
Kyneton where young people will be trained in skills and be able to sell the goods they produce. These
goods will be for sale in this area where the public are welcome to

The History And Culture Of English Literature
The history and culture of English literature are profound in the literary writings from the beginning of
the Periods of Old English, Middle English, Elizabethan, Romantic, and the Modern. All of these
periods are named purposely by intellectual, political movements, historical events, and artistic styles
that are evident in the literary writings during their respective timeframes. As an example, it is during
the Old English Period (Anglo Saxon) where the English language is born. The epic poem Beowulf is
for certain the most influential literary work of this period and possess national epic status in England.
The poem Beowulf draws on Christianity to change the pre conversion myth by elucidating the many
things that cannot be explained by science or the laws of nature, including things characteristic of or
relating to ghosts, gods, or things beyond nature, turning into a lesson on faith. Adversely, it is the
Middle English period where the influence of Norman language (drawn from the French Romance
language), culture and literature take shape. This period starts with the Norman invasion in 1066,
where we learn of a woman in the federal aristocracy, marriage viewed as a political act and the
introduction of courtly love. It is mysticism and magic that plays a role in the analysis of ideas and
stories of the Catholic belief during the Middle English Period which is evident in the literary works
of Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. A historically

The Legacy Of John Towner Williams The Star Wars Saga
John Towner Williams is considered one of the most successful composers in the last century. He has
scored many popular movies and has many other notable works. Involved in major works including
Jaws, ET, Indiana Jones, the Harry Potter Series, and his critically acclaimed work in the Star Wars
saga, Williams is undoubtedly one of the best in the business. Williams holds a commanding position
over many of his colleagues, and fellow composers to this day. Williams has won five Academy
Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Awards, and twenty two Grammys.
Boasting a dominant fifty Academy Award nominations, and following only Walt Disney, John
Williams is the second most nominated individual. Since the beginning of the film ... Show more

Once finished with his service, Williams moved back to the Empire State to study at the most
prestigious music school in the world, The Juilliard School. Williams spent his time gigging around
New York and studying profusely. Working under Rosina Lhevinne, Russian pianist and composer,
Williams became more in touch with Tchaikovsky, Rhim, Wagner, and branched into neo romanticism.
By becoming more familiar with these composers, Williams grasped a better concept of leitmotif by
which helped him to pursue a career in film scoring.
Williams moved back to Los Angeles and began working immediately. He composed, scored, and was
featured performing in several films throughout the seventies. This granted him a plethora of
experience and recognition. It wasn t until 1974 that he was asked by director Steven Spielberg to
write the score for his debut film, Sugarland Express. This was only the beginning of their partnership,
and would work on several films through out the seventies this including Jaws, and Close Encounters
of the Third Kind.
Steven Spielberg recommended Williams to an ambitious George Lucas who needed a score for his
one of a kind, Star Wars. This was the beginning of the rest of Williams career, as Star Wars broke
multiple box office records, and won several academy awards, including best musical score. Luke s
Theme is easily one of the most recognizable motifs in

Gospel Music As A Genre Of Christian Music
Ever think about what the real definition of Gospel music is? Gospel music is a genre of Christian
music. Gospel is the term used for the first four books of the New Testament, describing the life,
death, and resurrection of Jesus. The word gospel means good news which is derived from the Greek
word ε ὐαγγέλιον. Gospel music serves many purposes such as aesthetic pleasures and religious
purposes and as an entertainment product for the market. Gospel music consists of a strong harmony
and Christian lyrics.
Gospel music became known around the 17t h century and rooted in the black tradition. Hand
clapping and foot stomping are often associated when gospel music is playing. Most of the singing
during that time was a cappella in other words with no music. The first use of the term Gospel Song
was in 1874. Some of the original gospel songs were written and composed by autho rs such as
George Root, William Howard Doane and Fanny Crosby.
In the slavery era many slave owners did not allow slaves to use traditional african instruments , sing
or play their native music. As a result many of the words and melodies were forgotten and vanished in
North America. A new style of music emerged from this limitation. The church allowed many slaves
to express their feelings through gospel songs. Many slaves were not allowed to attend but met
secretly anyway.
The best part about gospel music tradition was the use of a choir. The church choir members consisted
of volunteer singers from the

Child Soldiers In A Long Way Gone
Ishmael Beah and Grace Akallo Like hundreds if not thousands of other child soldiers, Ishmael Beah
suffered the devastation of war and conflict in an African country. This country in particular is Sierra
Leone, a former British colony that was left with no concrete government. The history of Sierra Leone
and how the 10 year war in the country started is rarely mentioned in A Long Way Gone. Whether the
historical and political aspect of the war is purposely omitted from the memoir or never explored by
Ishmael Beah is never mentioned in the story. Nevertheless, it is more likely that Ishmael had very
little idea in the political background behind the war he was fighting in. From a broad point of view,
the war was both influenced by external ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically, there have been child soldiers even in the United States. Bugler John Cook, served in the
U.S. Army at the age of 15 and received the Medal of Honor for his acts during the American Civil
War ( Child Soldiers Are Unfortunately Nothing New ). However, the use of child soldiers has
dramatically declined in western civilization during the 20th century. Surprisingly, the recent use of
child soldiers in Africa is still seen in media today. Grace Akallo, a girl who formerly served under
warlord Joseph Kony, suffered a similar account as Ishmael. As part of her initiation into the army, she
was forced to kill another girl. In A Long Way Gone, a rebel soldier attempts to initiate Ishmael and
others by yellong, We are going to initiate all of you by killing these people in front of you. We have
to do this to show you blood and make you strong. You ll never see any of these people again, unless
you believe in life after death (A Long Way Gone, 90) In Akallo s book, she describes how she was
trained with an AK 47, just like Ishmael Beah. Unlike Ishmael, who was a boy, she was forced as a
sex slave and raped at several occasions (Akallo, 121). The topic of human trafficking is also explored
in her book as she reports hundreds of other boys and girls used for illegal

Positive Effects Of Gentrification
Many cities have been rejuvenated throughout the world. Santa Ana located in California, has been
one of the victims of gentrification. The most affected area is Downtown Santa Ana. Fourth Street has
been used to exemplify how gentrification works. Downtown Santa Ana has been almost completely
modified. Gentrification has it s positive effects just like it has it s negative effects. The negative
consequences include displacement, loss of cultural identity, and increasing rent. First of all, one of
the reasons to why gentrifiers should stop the process of modifying cities is displacement.
Displacement is a bad consequence because buildings are being placed in a bad neighborhood. For
example, Source 4 includes a link to a poem about a crime that took place in the San Francisco s
mission district, three latino immigrants were brutally beat and injured by a white man with a crowbar.
He is the owner of a brand new bar on 16th street. A man named Paul Flores wrote a poem to address
the problems that gentrification has caused in our cities. In his poem he repeatedly asks, Are you doing
that crowbar thing? He then mentions, Doing that Forget about El Centro del Pueblo thing and
volunteer at the pirate store instead thing? This is clearly a great example of displacement being a
consequence of gentrification. The gentrifiers are so concentrated on making money but don t realize
that placing a building with a completely different background than the rest, can result in

My Key Point For Success
Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. There is different techniques people
use to make sure they reach success. I have read some stories that all have dealt with someone aiming
for success. The stories I read are A Right To Choose Single Sex Education, Next Term, We ll Mash
You, Raising Smart Kids, A Walk To The Jetty, and ILE. There are four techniques I use to be
successful. The first is knowing my strengths and weaknesses. The second thing I do to reach success
is focusing on myself and not on others or what is going on around me. Another technique for myself
to be successful is to keep in mind what I really want and working towards my goals. My last key

I show what and how much I actually know when I am either by myself or with all girls. I can t choose
who I have class with but I use this strength to better my weakness. I still try my best whether there is

Another thing to reach success is to focus on myself and not what is going on around me. When I was
younger I only cared to hang out with friends. School was not important to me, mainly because
everything felt too hard for me. Even though I have brothers, they weren t much of a help when it
came to school. The story The Secret To Raising Smart Kids by Carol S. Dweck talked about two
different mindsets people can have. One of them was a growth mindset and the other was a fixed
mindset. To have a growth mindset is to know that your intelligence can be molded. To have a fixed
mindset is to believe intelligence is something you are born with. I was always a students with a fixed
mindset. They thought that a person with talent or intelligence did not need to work hard to do well.
Attributing a bad grade to their own lack of ability, those with a fixed mindset said that they would
study less in the future, try never to take that subject again and consider cheating on future tests. (lines

The Horrors Of The Progressive Era
The working conditions of the new arrivals were hardly any better, as employees of factories were
often overworked, underpaid, and penned up in dangerous conditions. Perhaps the horrors of these
conditions can be highlighted by the devastating 1911 fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New
York City. Tragically, over one hundred young women lost their lives in the fire, as there was no way
to get out, and the doors were locked, trapping the women inside. Safety was not the only problem, as
workers initially were not given the right to organize into unions, essentially doomed to the repetitive
motions of factory operation. This meant that they had no way to protest against child labor, wage
slavery, and unhealthily long working hours. Eventually, with their growing clout and ever present
industrial dependence on their labor, workers organized and demanded reform along all aspects of
hazardous working conditions. The drive to reform the working and living conditions of the poor in
American cities heralded the advent of the Progressive Era, in which social and political activism and
reform aimed to reconcile issues of Reconstruction. Writers like Upton Sinclair described ghastly
conditions in American factories. Their stories caught the nation s attention, and political as well as
labor action followed. Progressive politicians such as Theodore Roosevelt aggressively sought to reign
in the excesses of monopolies. They viewed monopolies as using unfair leverage to hurt

The Liberty Bell, Washington Monument, The Bald Eagle
The symbols of this great nation are many. The Liberty Bell, Washington Monument, the Bald Eagle,
the White House, and the document that is the foundation on which this country is built, the
Constitution of the United States. These symbols are immediately recognized by the citizens of the
United States and some internationally, however the one symbol that is universally recognized is the
Stars and Stripes. It is the symbol of a free nation whose citizens are allowed to strive for the
American dream, the ability to achieve success through hard work, regardless of race, creed, or
religious beliefs. Such a symbol should be held sacred and beyond reproach. Defacing the White
House, harming a Bald Eagle, or burning the Constitution are considered felony offenses, however
desecrating the American Flag is protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Standing on, defacing, and burning of the flag by U.S. citizens only creates public unrest and should
not be allowed.
The Constitution, now comprised of 27 amendments, started out with 10. The First Amendment of the
Constitution states Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting
the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances (Bill of Rights 1).

Allegory In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies, an Allegorical Piece
In Literature, writers apply allegory to add various layers of significance to their works. Furthermore,
allegory makes their stories and characters, intricate, so that they represent something greater than
their literal standing. Provided that, how is Lord of the Flies, an allegory for humanity? As a matter of
fact, several characters in the novel represent a larger aspect, and together, unite the idea of humanity
on the Earth. Ralph epitomizes civilization. At the same time, Jack represents a self destructive
anarchy. Piggy illustrates rational thought, whereas Roger embodies sadism. Lastly, there is Simon,
who exemplifies the spiritual side of man. There are many types of symbols that one uses in ... Show

The final character, Simon, is a religious symbol. Simon exemplifies the spiritual side of man, for he
is compassionate, peaceful, and in conformity with nature. On page 50, Simon is the only boy helping
Ralph build the shelter, proving to be compassionate. His persona is akin to that of Jesus Christ. Like
Jesus, others mock Simon as an outsider distinguishing his behavior as bizarre or queer . When Simon
tells Ralph, All the same. You ll get back all right. I think so, anyway , Ralph is confused and refers to
him as batty (pg. 111). He is also the only one who hears the Lord of the Flies speak and is first to
comprehend that the beast is within each of us. This act simulates Christ s discussion with the devil
during his forty days in the wilderness. The Lord of the Flies tells him, Fancy thinking the Beast was
something you could hunt and kill! (pg. 143). However, because of Simon s uneasiness, he cannot
articulate this understanding. On page 89, Simon attempts to tell the group that Maybe it s only us ,
but no one understands what he means. Later, when Simon realizes the figure on the mountain is just a
dead man , he is killed by Jack s tribe, for they leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore (pg.
153). There are acclaimed parallels between Simon s murder and Christ s sacrifice on the cross, but
Simon s epiphany is more of a debunking,

Coral Island Vs Lord Of The Flies
Reality of Human Nature In Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows a world of increasing violence
through the behavior of the characters, the setting of the novel, and the events occurring throughout
the story. Golding s Lord of the Flies was inspired by R.M. Ballantyne s Coral Island. Both works
involve boys stranded on a deserted island. Ballantyne s Coral Island portrays these young boys as
content, rational young boys, which is somewhat unrealistic. Golding wanted to create a more lifelike
version of events that might occur if several young boys were stranded on a deserted island. Golding
creates vivid scenes explaining the savage nature of humans, and just how animalistic they can
become. Increasingly violent behavior is displayed through four main characters, Jack, Ralph, Simon,

is when Jack kills his very first pig. Throughout the novel, Jack forms a tribe, that dances, and paints

increasingly violent, first beating Robert then killing Simon. The most violent thing Jack and his tribe
do is capture Samneric, torture them into revealing Ralph s hiding spot, and then Jack hunts to kill
Ralph. Jack, as a character, progresses from a civil boy of 12 years old to a torturous murderer. At the

South Africa and the AIDS Crisis
The AIDS crisis has been a very controversial issue in the history of South Africa beginning in 1982.
During this time South Africa has made a government transition from apartheid to a democracy. Since
many national issues needed to be address, the AIDS crisis was pushed aside, leaving a pandemic in
the process. Many factors have contributed to the issues including: poverty, social instability, high
levels of sexually transmitted infections, the low status of women, sexual violence, migrant labor,
limited access to quality medical care, and a history of poor leadership in the response to the
pandemic. After three decades of controversy in South Africa dealing with issues involving the
government, medicine, and conflict the country is still feeling the after effect today regarding the
largest AIDS pandemic.
In 1982 the first case of AIDS in South Africa was diagnosed in a homosexual white man who was
believed to contract the disease while in California. Later that year two hundred and fifty random
blood samples were taken from homosexual men living in Johannesburg, the virus infected 12.8% of
the men. When AIDs was first diagnosed, many Africans believed it was only a disease for
homosexuals and drug addicts, this did not prove to be the case. The first death of a South African
with AIDS occurred in 1985, while the apartheid government was under the control of President P.W.

15th Century Chapter Summaries
I have been aware of the Chinese voyages in the 15th Century for several years, I read a book written
by a British Naval Officer on the Chinese cross ocean voyages of the 15th Century. Although I now
find that some people find the above mentioned book to be fiction, I find that description fits in with
my current thinking on history in general. This story and history as a whole can be more about the
story teller than the story. Historians not only find themselves recording, discovering, and interpreting
history, but they must guard against judging what they decide to pass on to society.
History is written in the context of a given time, it can be helpful to compare history to other times and
cultures in order to find some balance of thinking. However coercion is also at play whenever history
is told. Those that win wars, whether on the battlefield, oceans, or the minds of people, are the ones
that write history. The Confucian scholars of Zheng He s time chose ... Show more content on

The Lottery By Robert Frost Analysis
Mortality is at the forefront of the poems To and Athlete Dying Young, Design, My Papa s Waltz, and
the short story The Lottery. However, each of these works of art differ on the connotation of death but
all convey their own unique views in the same narrative way. All of the poems have the same point of
view in which their stories are told in but the short story, The Lottery, stands alone as a story that is
not told in the first person. The title of each work holds no deeper meaning than a description of what
is to follow with the exception of Design. Finally, each author structured their own work in some ways
that are similar to one and another, for example, the use of such devices as rhyme schemes can be
found in all three of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just like the other two poems listed above, this is a personal narrative in which Robert recalls
watching a white moth landing on a white flower and being eaten by a white spider. Frost refers to the
moths wings as a white piece of rigid satin cloth referring to the white satin that is lined in a casket.
Robert refers to the spider, flower and moth as characters of death and blight like characters on a
keyboard, which raises the question of whether or not the moth landing on the white flower that was
secretly holding his predator was simply coincidence or fate. He compared the wings of the moth to
the wings of a kite in which both are blown around by the wind and questions what force is behind the
questioned if the moth was steered by this force. The title, Design, differs from all three of the other
narratives in that it holds greater meaning than just a description of a story that follows. The word
design in this case has a double meaning. Robert Frost cleverly titled his poem to make you think
much more deeply and question why things happen the way they do. The title refers to a much deeper
philosophy in which there is an argument for the existence of some higher being (a God) who is
actually controlling everything, including the death of the moth. The structure of this poem is fourteen
lines of iambic pentameter that consists of a short (or unstressed) syllable followed by a long (or
stressed syllable). Being fourteen lines of iambic pentameter, this poem is a sonnet, specifically, a
sonnet of the Italian (Petrarchan) model that consists of two stanzas. The first stanza is an eight line
octave and the second stanza is a six line sestet (the last six lines of a sonnet). There was no clear
rhyme scheme (ABBAABBA

Soon this idea began to be tested in laboratories, but being this was related to subject of

multiple views concerning particularly the cost and accessibility to bioengineering of these drugs and
if the effort put in would equal the benefits. When looking at this it is evident that much more research
and testing would need to be put in this field before true consideration for use in the pharmaceutical
world. From there it is critical that a standard must be set for the production of all enzymes used in
this process, making sure they are produced in abundance to ensure stability. Concerning the cost it is
evident that production of this drug through chemoenzymatic means compares similarly to that of
through pig intestines. Moreover the more steadfast way of producing heparin through chinese
hamster ovary cells (CHOs) would most likely greatly exceed production through pig intestines. This
would make CHOs used more in designer Heparin doses (Vaidyanathan, 2017). Other methods show
some progress as well but they unfortunately present numerous challenges most likely impossible to

American Transportation Infrastructure Essay
American transportation Infrastructure has taken a toll over the past decade. This is due to the lack of
proper maintenance. These infrastructure are in serious disorder and they continue to deteriorate and
age across the country. The upkeep of roads and bridges is a struggle in term of monetary availability
and various government agencies at all level are having a hard time meeting up with the budget
requirement. Ever since the federal Highway Trust Fund was founded in 1956, the combined highway
and transit expenses with reference to the gross domestic product has reduced by twenty five percent
as stated by the federal National Surface Transportation Infrastructure Financing Commission.
The infrastructure area in this great nation is deprecating when compared to the rest of the developed
countries. America went from having the best modernized roadways and highways in the mid 1900s to
an obsolete infrastructure at present. The U.S globally ranks 16th in quality of infrastructures moving
3 up spots over the past couple of years. This is not as a result of improved infrastructure but other

Robert Devereux s Metamorphosis
I have discovered a most dangerous and desperate treason, was a lie told by Robert Devereux that
purchased the death of chief physician, Dr. Rodregio Lopez. Dr. Lopez had incurred Devereux s anger
by publicly releasing that he had treated Essex for syphilis. Besides Essex s witch hunt to obtain
revenge on Dr. Lopez, Devereaux was keen to show his loyalty to Queen Elizabeth. Robert played a
major part at the centre of an intelligence gathering network, and had employed two former counter
intelligence agents to infiltrate the Portuguese Jewish community in London. At first the agents tried
to frame a plot, so that Essex would run to the Queen and take all credit, but during this acquisitive
plan they discovered a real ring of Portuguese Jewish

Evidence Based Outcomes And Utilizing Findings
Evidence Based Outcomes and Utilizing Findings Evidenced based practice (EBP) is now considered
to be best practice but, although great strides have been made in applying the research in practice,
there is still progress to be made. EBP is central to delivering the highest quality healthcare and
ensuring the best outcomes for patients. However, EBP guiding the practice in healthcare systems is
not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011).
The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in practice is that is provides better outcomes in
patients and provides a higher quality of care. Therefore, patients are more satisfied, healthcare costs
are reduced and there is a reduction in differences in delivery of care according to geographic area
(Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). Evidence based practice is defined by Polit and Beck (2012) as a
practice that involves making clinical decisions on the best available evidence which is usually from
disciplined research, while research utilization is using an aspect of a study for something else
unrelated to the original research. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a
distinct difference. In research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word
applications. Evidence based practice (EBP) is broader than research utilization and incorporates
research findings with other factors (Polit Beck, 2012). Many factors work to either facilitate

The Interrupters Documentary Analysis
Click Slide 1) Have you ever thought of street violence as an infectious disease? One that can be
treated by identifying the source of outbreak and intervening before the infection spreads?
Through time, educational information has been passed on using films otherwise known as
documentaries, which are illustrated through pictures, interviews and recordings of real life events to
provide a factual record or report.
The key to a great documentary is good communication. A high level of communication between the
documentary and its audience is imperative in delivering an educational message through a concise,
yet entertaining presentation.
Good morning fellow documentary filmmakers, my name is Bianca Zell, today I have the pleasure of
introducing you, to one of the most successful documentaries to ever come out of America. The
Interrupters is shot over the course of a year in the streets of Chicago, it tells the moving stories of
three Violence Interrupters who try to protect their communities from the violence they once
employed. The stories told throughout the film may weigh heavily on your heart and head, but
possibly also infuriate you. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ngo Dinh Diem In Vietnam
The Vietnam was a costly conflict for all who were involved. Following WWII, Vietnam broke away
from France. Vietnam was then divided into North VIetnam and South VIetnam. North Vietnam was
under a communist role backed by the Soviet Union and North VIetnam was under a democratic role
backed by the United States. Ho Chi Minh rose to power in North Vietnam as did Ngo Dinh Diem in
South Vietnam. IN 1961, many SOuth Vietnamese had come to distrust Diem. They feld that Diem
favored the wealthy and ignored the peasants. Many of these peasants joined the Vietcong, who were
guerillas who opposed Diem. Their influence quickly spread through small South Vietnamese villages.
The Vietcong;s success frightened American leaders. These leaders theorized that if South Vietnam
fell to communists, neighboring countries like Southeast Asia would follow. This would result in the
opposite of their goal; the spreading of communism, not the containment of it. In response, Kennedy
send American advisors. The purpose of these advisors was to assist Diem fight the Vietcong. The

The Influence Of Radical Feminism On Law
Feminist thought has influenced many different arenas of life. One of the most prominent streams is
radical feminism, that seeks to eradicate patriarchy in the United States and implement a system of
law that favors women because of their former state of oppression. Patriarchy, or the oppression of
women by men, is the cornerstone of feminist campaigns. This paper covers three distinctive
influences that radical feminism has had on law in the United States. Radical feminism has influenced
pornography, abortion, and employment law as for the crusade for women s rights. The regulation of
pornography has led to questions on freedom of expression and government intervention into
business. Abortion, one of the most controversial issues, has almost ... Show more content on

The idea of patriarchy is a key concept in the discussion on feminism. Patriarchy, in its most basic
sense is the domination of men over women in every aspect of society, both civil and legal.
Furthermore, an article by Lynne Henderson adequately describes what patriarchy is and its
connection to the legal realm, Thus, feminists concerned about law often frame the issues in terms of
law s relation to patriarchy. Although patriarchy technically refers to families ruled by a senior male
patriarch, it more generally refers to systematic domination and subordination of females by males.
Moreover, patriarchy can be seen as a driving force that rallies feminists around women s rights.
Patriarchy is crucial to understanding feminism with its desire for legal reform, and the elimination of
patriarchy. Owen M. Fiss describes the reality of the oppression that radical feminists believe still
exist, They [feminists] do not condemn discrimination solely because it entails unfair treatment to
some identifiable individuals, but rather because of its role in subordinating women as a group and
thus creating and perpetuating a gender

in Ranger Battalion is unlike anything I had ever previously known, this tight knit brotherhood of
modern day Spartan warriors has bonds that even death cannot break. I deployed in a classified
location in Afghanistan to capture or kill wanted terrorists of our nation. My platoon and I stepped off

Alexander the Great s Determination
After the death of King Darius III, Alexander began to introduce his Policy of Fusion . He believed
that if the two traditions (Macedonian and Persian) could be blended and assimilated , his authority
would be more securely established and would rest on good will rather than on force, according to
ancient historian Plutarch. This tell us that Alexander did not want to destroy the Persia that Darius
and his ancestors had set up and replace it with a Macedonian ruling. Quoting Plutarch, He understood
that the sharing of race and customs is a great step towards the softening of men s heart . Alexander
knew that if he were to change Persia to a Macedonian ruling, the Persians would not have obeyed nor

In the year 224 BC, a mass wedding was held in Susa. Alexander had arranged for himself to marry
Barsine, Darius s eldest daughter, and another one, Parysatis, the daughter of Ochus. In addition, he
gave his companions the daughters of the most notable Medes and Persians [Arrian] summing up to
80 weddings in total, all of which the weddings were celebrated in Persian fashion. The wedding
established Alexander as the Great King of both Macedonia and Persia as he could now claim to be
the son and heir of both previous Persian kings. It also signified the transfer of power to the
Macedonians through the marriage to leading Persian women. Much like his successors, the children
of these marriages were to be taught Greek and trained in Macedonian customs and have the added
advantage of mixed parentage. According to J.R Hamilton, the Susa wedding brought to a climax his
policy of fusing Macadeonians and Persians into a single race . This is no doubt an example of
Alexander s strong determination of combining both traditions. However, upon Alexander s death, all
the men divorced their wives with the exception of Hephaestion (who died eight months prior to
Alexander) and Seleucus. This showed how much Alexander s men disliked his

(5th Overall) I absolutely love this pick by Orlando. Every video I ve watched and every scouting
report I ve read, has completely sold me on Hezonja as a legit NBA pro. He has an NBA like
domineer. He s good and he knows it. He has Kobe like confidence, in that he isn t afraid to miss a big
shot. When he gets hot, Hezonja is a lights out shooter. He attacks the rim relentlessly and isn t afraid
of contact. He ll go right at an opposing defender without fear of being thrown to the ground. The
Magic needed a wing player who could score and defend. They got that with Hezonja. He is a perfect
fit and is a great replacement for Tobias Harris. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

flat out dropped it. 2. Frank Kaminsky to the Hornets (9th Overall) Four first round picks and two
second round picks The Hornets think Frank Kaminsky is worth more than that. I was shocked when I
heard this. How can a team pass up four first round picks for Frank Kaminsky? Not only did they pass
up the picks, but also if they had taken the trade, they would have moved down to pick 16 and
Kaminsky likely still would have been on the draft board. I am still baffled by the Hornets decision to
reject that trade. Not only do I think the organization made a bad move by rejecting the trade, but also
I think, Kaminsky will be a role player at best in the NBA. He ll stick around for a while because he s
a seven footer who can hit a mid range shot. He is a below average post player and he s a liability on
defense. He shies away from contact and according to some scouts is Hard to get along with .

Bravo Company in Black Hearts by Jim Frederick Essay
Black Hearts was about the 2005 2006 deployment of the 101st s second brigade s 1 502nd (First

decent into complete madness throughout the deployment. The 1 502nd and its commander Lt Col
Kunk, was tasked with the mission of getting control of and hold the land in between the Euphrates
and Tigris rivers. Kunk was a particularly difficult man to get along with. He would explode and go on

This cause the men to get a lot less time to relax, taking 8 or more hour guard shifts. The redundant,
mundane task of manning the TCPs would make the soldiers restless, tired and complacent; an
extremely dangerous combination when in a combat zone. The TCPs would cause a lot of problems
throughout the entire deployment. The first catastrophe to hit Bravo Company, and 1st platoon in
particular, was the deaths of SSG Nelson and SGT Casica from 3rd SQD. They were both shot point
blank while trying to talk to a familiar civilian that they had spoken to previously while manning a
TCP. This was the start of the downward spiral that 1st platoon went through during the deployment.
Continuing after this incident, the company was still spread very thin, having too many tasks and not
enough people. Having to go out on a 20 hour mission and then have to go back out right after you get
to the FOB hoping for a bit of relaxing time was a serious moral killer. This didn t not help the fact
that 1st platoon already had been taking out bottled anger and remorse for their lost comrades out on
insurgent and civilian alike. To them they were all the enemy. The next big blow the 1st platoon was
the deaths of 1LT Britt and SPC Lopez. During a routine IED sweep of route sportster, 1LT Britt and

Speech On Organic Cosmetics
Every time you look into the mirror, you find the natural health of your skin deteriorating from
problems like aging, acne, blackheads, wrinkles, dark circles etc. The reason is not only the
physiological changes in the skin, due to aging, but the harsh chemicals that come in contact with our
skin. Certified organic cosmetics can provide safe, healthy solutions and benefits to one s skin.
Our skin, being the largest organ of the body, is very sensitive, very porous (over 70% seepage into
the body through the bloodstream), and when it comes in contact with harsh, toxic chemicals,
permanent damage can be caused. These chemicals are not always associated with the environment
that we live in or the food we eat but, many times, can be directly connected to the cosmetics that we
use. These cosmetics, used daily, can be really harsh on our skin as they contain many toxic chemicals
that cause permanent damage to the skin s health. Let s be clear. A toxic substance, otherwise known
as a toxicant, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Truly organic cosmetics produce the same colors and also last for the same period of time on your
skin, so there is no reason why these should be considered poor cosmetics. However, once again,
before one purchases these cosmetic products, one should always check the label and find out whether
or not it really contains organic ingredients. Admittedly, some of these listed ingredients one would
need to be a scientist to understand. Do not let this deter you from researching the ingredient.
Remember the Cosmetic Industry will do anything to thwart you from discovering what is actually in
these products. In it is not in their best interest for you to change brands, so do your homework and
save being given a synthetic cosmetic, filled with poisons (toxicants), in the name of a natural and/or

The First Sex Experience In Rabbit, Run By John Updike
During everyone s lifetimes, we have some amazing experiences, and we also have some bad trips.
Both good and bad experiences can t be avoided. When we are on our bad trips, we may start to miss
those great things that happened before. In the book rabbit, run, John Updike talked about several run
away experiences of Harry Angstrom, a man who got married with Janice in his early twenty and
whose nickname is rabbit . Rabbit is irresponsible, so he ran away from his pregnant wife and found a
prostitute to live together. Finally, in order to escape from his responsibility of taking care of pregnant
prostitute, he ran away again. In the first night he met the prostitute, Ruth, he went to Ruth s apartment
and had sex with her. Updike described in details what happened in Rabbit s first sex experience with
Ruth, during this sex experience, without his notice, he was trying to bring his life back to the high
school when he still could control things and he also miss the time when he just got married, when he
still had a happy marriage. By Updike s describing, Rabbit wants to get back the control of his life and
starts to miss the wonderful life he used to have with Janice. Rabbits feels difficult to accept the huge
gap between Rabbit s high school life and his latest life experience, and this leads him to run away and
want to find control on somebody else. As Updike wrote before, Rabbit was a high school basketball

With one participant being sourced from the Working for the Dole program. During this time, this participant has been employed working 25 hours per week learning carpentry and woodworking skills. In October of 2016 the Social Foundry obtained its Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and became a registered public benevolent institution. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Please refer to (app. 5), the Social Foundry proposition directly tackles this problem by offering an alternative pathway to further education and workplace training. Over time we see our model being able to be replicated in numerous forms in many regions throughout Australia. Currently our focus is limited to woodworking and carpentry, long term it could be expanded into manufacturing, I.T., customer service, agriculture or food services just to name a few. The Social Foundry aims to focus on the needs of the Kyneton community located in the Macedon Ranges. However, having access to the train line the scope of our demographic can reach as far south as Gisborne and Castlemaine to the north. Shortly the Social Foundry will be hiring a Head of Operations who will be overseeing the mentoring program for our participants. We will also be establishing a strong presence in the centre of Kyneton establishing a workshop where goods will be produced. This area will also act as a community resource where we have partnered with Moto Bean Coffee Roasters. We will be creating a place in Kyneton where young people will be trained in skills and be able to sell the goods they produce. These goods will be for sale in this area where the public are welcome to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The History And Culture Of English Literature The history and culture of English literature are profound in the literary writings from the beginning of the Periods of Old English, Middle English, Elizabethan, Romantic, and the Modern. All of these periods are named purposely by intellectual, political movements, historical events, and artistic styles that are evident in the literary writings during their respective timeframes. As an example, it is during the Old English Period (Anglo Saxon) where the English language is born. The epic poem Beowulf is for certain the most influential literary work of this period and possess national epic status in England. The poem Beowulf draws on Christianity to change the pre conversion myth by elucidating the many things that cannot be explained by science or the laws of nature, including things characteristic of or relating to ghosts, gods, or things beyond nature, turning into a lesson on faith. Adversely, it is the Middle English period where the influence of Norman language (drawn from the French Romance language), culture and literature take shape. This period starts with the Norman invasion in 1066, where we learn of a woman in the federal aristocracy, marriage viewed as a political act and the introduction of courtly love. It is mysticism and magic that plays a role in the analysis of ideas and stories of the Catholic belief during the Middle English Period which is evident in the literary works of Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Williams spent his time gigging around New York and studying profusely. Working under Rosina Lhevinne, Russian pianist and composer, Williams became more in touch with Tchaikovsky, Rhim, Wagner, and branched into neo romanticism. By becoming more familiar with these composers, Williams grasped a better concept of leitmotif by which helped him to pursue a career in film scoring. Williams moved back to Los Angeles and began working immediately. He composed, scored, and was featured performing in several films throughout the seventies. This granted him a plethora of experience and recognition. It wasn t until 1974 that he was asked by director Steven Spielberg to write the score for his debut film, Sugarland Express. This was only the beginning of their partnership, and would work on several films through out the seventies this including Jaws, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Steven Spielberg recommended Williams to an ambitious George Lucas who needed a score for his one of a kind, Star Wars. • 6. Gospel Music As A Genre Of Christian Music Ever think about what the real definition of Gospel music is? Gospel music is a genre of Christian music. Gospel is the term used for the first four books of the New Testament, describing the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The word gospel means good news which is derived from the Greek word ε ὐαγγέλιον. Gospel music serves many purposes such as aesthetic pleasures and religious purposes and as an entertainment product for the market. Gospel music consists of a strong harmony and Christian lyrics. Gospel music became known around the 17t h century and rooted in the black tradition. Hand clapping and foot stomping are often associated when gospel music is playing. Most of the singing during that time was a cappella in other words with no music. The first use of the term Gospel Song was in 1874. Some of the original gospel songs were written and composed by autho rs such as George Root, William Howard Doane and Fanny Crosby. In the slavery era many slave owners did not allow slaves to use traditional african instruments , sing or play their native music. As a result many of the words and melodies were forgotten and vanished in North America. A new style of music emerged from this limitation. The church allowed many slaves to express their feelings through gospel songs. Many slaves were not allowed to attend but met secretly anyway. The best part about gospel music tradition was the use of a choir. The church choir members consisted of volunteer singers from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Child Soldiers In A Long Way Gone Ishmael Beah and Grace Akallo Like hundreds if not thousands of other child soldiers, Ishmael Beah suffered the devastation of war and conflict in an African country. This country in particular is Sierra Leone, a former British colony that was left with no concrete government. The history of Sierra Leone and how the 10 year war in the country started is rarely mentioned in A Long Way Gone. Whether the historical and political aspect of the war is purposely omitted from the memoir or never explored by Ishmael Beah is never mentioned in the story. Nevertheless, it is more likely that Ishmael had very little idea in the political background behind the war he was fighting in. From a broad point of view, the war was both influenced by external ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historically, there have been child soldiers even in the United States. Bugler John Cook, served in the U.S. Army at the age of 15 and received the Medal of Honor for his acts during the American Civil War ( Child Soldiers Are Unfortunately Nothing New ). However, the use of child soldiers has dramatically declined in western civilization during the 20th century. Surprisingly, the recent use of child soldiers in Africa is still seen in media today. Grace Akallo, a girl who formerly served under warlord Joseph Kony, suffered a similar account as Ishmael. As part of her initiation into the army, she was forced to kill another girl. In A Long Way Gone, a rebel soldier attempts to initiate Ishmael and others by yellong, We are going to initiate all of you by killing these people in front of you. We have to do this to show you blood and make you strong. You ll never see any of these people again, unless you believe in life after death (A Long Way Gone, 90) In Akallo s book, she describes how she was trained with an AK 47, just like Ishmael Beah. Unlike Ishmael, who was a boy, she was forced as a sex slave and raped at several occasions (Akallo, 121). The topic of human trafficking is also explored in her book as she reports hundreds of other boys and girls used for illegal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The most affected area is Downtown Santa Ana. Fourth Street has been used to exemplify how gentrification works. Downtown Santa Ana has been almost completely modified. Gentrification has it s positive effects just like it has it s negative effects. The negative consequences include displacement, loss of cultural identity, and increasing rent. First of all, one of the reasons to why gentrifiers should stop the process of modifying cities is displacement. Displacement is a bad consequence because buildings are being placed in a bad neighborhood. For example, Source 4 includes a link to a poem about a crime that took place in the San Francisco s mission district, three latino immigrants were brutally beat and injured by a white man with a crowbar. He is the owner of a brand new bar on 16th street. A man named Paul Flores wrote a poem to address the problems that gentrification has caused in our cities. In his poem he repeatedly asks, Are you doing that crowbar thing? He then mentions, Doing that Forget about El Centro del Pueblo thing and volunteer at the pirate store instead thing? This is clearly a great example of displacement being a consequence of gentrification. The gentrifiers are so concentrated on making money but don t realize that placing a building with a completely different background than the rest, can result in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Horrors Of The Progressive Era The working conditions of the new arrivals were hardly any better, as employees of factories were often overworked, underpaid, and penned up in dangerous conditions. Perhaps the horrors of these conditions can be highlighted by the devastating 1911 fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York City. Tragically, over one hundred young women lost their lives in the fire, as there was no way to get out, and the doors were locked, trapping the women inside. Safety was not the only problem, as workers initially were not given the right to organize into unions, essentially doomed to the repetitive motions of factory operation. This meant that they had no way to protest against child labor, wage slavery, and unhealthily long working hours. Eventually, with their growing clout and ever present industrial dependence on their labor, workers organized and demanded reform along all aspects of hazardous working conditions. The drive to reform the working and living conditions of the poor in American cities heralded the advent of the Progressive Era, in which social and political activism and reform aimed to reconcile issues of Reconstruction. Writers like Upton Sinclair described ghastly conditions in American factories. Their stories caught the nation s attention, and political as well as labor action followed. Progressive politicians such as Theodore Roosevelt aggressively sought to reign in the excesses of monopolies. They viewed monopolies as using unfair leverage to hurt ... Coral Island Vs Lord Of The Flies Reality of Human Nature In Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows a world of increasing violence through the behavior of the characters, the setting of the novel, and the events occurring throughout the story. Ballantyne s Coral Island portrays these young boys as content, rational young boys, which is somewhat unrealistic. Golding wanted to create a more lifelike version of events that might occur if several young boys were stranded on a deserted island. During this time South Africa has made a government transition from apartheid to a democracy. Since many national issues needed to be address, the AIDS crisis was pushed aside, leaving a pandemic in the process. Many factors have contributed to the issues including: poverty, social instability, high levels of sexually transmitted infections, the low status of women, sexual violence, migrant labor, limited access to quality medical care, and a history of poor leadership in the response to the pandemic. After three decades of controversy in South Africa dealing with issues involving the government, medicine, and conflict the country is still feeling the after effect today regarding the largest AIDS pandemic. In 1982 the first case of AIDS in South Africa was diagnosed in a homosexual white man who was believed to contract the disease while in California. Later that year two hundred and fifty random blood samples were taken from homosexual men living in Johannesburg, the virus infected 12.8% of the men. When AIDs was first diagnosed, many Africans believed it was only a disease for homosexuals and drug addicts, this did not prove to be the case. All of the poems have the same point of view in which their stories are told in but the short story, The Lottery, stands alone as a story that is not told in the first person. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just like the other two poems listed above, this is a personal narrative in which Robert recalls watching a white moth landing on a white flower and being eaten by a white spider. Frost refers to the moths wings as a white piece of rigid satin cloth referring to the white satin that is lined in a casket. Robert refers to the spider, flower and moth as characters of death and blight like characters on a keyboard, which raises the question of whether or not the moth landing on the white flower that was secretly holding his predator was simply coincidence or fate. He compared the wings of the moth to the wings of a kite in which both are blown around by the wind and questions what force is behind the questioned if the moth was steered by this force. The title, Design, differs from all three of the other narratives in that it holds greater meaning than just a description of a story that follows. The word design in this case has a double meaning. Robert Frost cleverly titled his poem to make you think much more deeply and question why things happen the way they do. The title refers to a much deeper philosophy in which there is an argument for the existence of some higher being (a God) who is actually controlling everything, including the death of the moth. The structure of this poem is fourteen lines of iambic pentameter that consists of a short (or unstressed) syllable followed by a long (or stressed syllable). Being fourteen lines of iambic pentameter, this poem is a sonnet, specifically, a sonnet of the Italian (Petrarchan) model that consists of two stanzas. Evidence Based Outcomes And Utilizing Findings Evidence Based Outcomes and Utilizing Findings Evidenced based practice (EBP) is now considered to be best practice but, although great strides have been made in applying the research in practice, there is still progress to be made. EBP is central to delivering the highest quality healthcare and ensuring the best outcomes for patients. However, EBP guiding the practice in healthcare systems is not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in practice is that is provides better outcomes in patients and provides a higher quality of care. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a distinct difference. In research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word applications. In the year 224 BC, a mass wedding was held in Susa. Alexander had arranged for himself to marry Barsine, Darius s eldest daughter, and another one, Parysatis, the daughter of Ochus. In addition, he gave his companions the daughters of the most notable Medes and Persians [Arrian] summing up to 80 weddings in total, all of which the weddings were celebrated in Persian fashion. The wedding established Alexander as the Great King of both Macedonia and Persia as he could now claim to be the son and heir of both previous Persian kings. It also signified the transfer of power to the Macedonians through the marriage to leading Persian women. Much like his successors, the children of these marriages were to be taught Greek and trained in Macedonian customs and have the added advantage of mixed parentage. According to J.R Hamilton, the Susa wedding brought to a climax his policy of fusing Macadeonians and Persians into a single race . This is no doubt an example of Alexander s strong determination of combining both traditions. However, upon Alexander s death, all the men divorced their wives with the exception of Hephaestion (who died eight months prior to Alexander) and Seleucus. • 29. 3 Pick I Loved Analysis The Hot List Three Picks I Loved Three Picks I Hated Picks I Loved 1. Mario Hezonja to the Magic (5th Overall) I absolutely love this pick by Orlando. Every video I ve watched and every scouting report I ve read, has completely sold me on Hezonja as a legit NBA pro. He has an NBA like domineer. He s good and he knows it. He has Kobe like confidence, in that he isn t afraid to miss a big shot. When he gets hot, Hezonja is a lights out shooter. He attacks the rim relentlessly and isn t afraid of contact. He ll go right at an opposing defender without fear of being thrown to the ground. The Magic needed a wing player who could score and defend. They got that with Hezonja. He is a perfect fit and is a great replacement for Tobias Harris. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During his introductory press conference, Okafor s body language said a lot about his mindset. He didn t seem excited or enthusiastic about the idea of playing for the 76ers. In fact, at the end of the presser he dropped his jersey. He didn t place it on the table like his fellow rookie teammates; nope he flat out dropped it. 2. Frank Kaminsky to the Hornets (9th Overall) Four first round picks and two second round picks The Hornets think Frank Kaminsky is worth more than that. I was shocked when I heard this. How can a team pass up four first round picks for Frank Kaminsky? Not only did they pass up the picks, but also if they had taken the trade, they would have moved down to pick 16 and Kaminsky likely still would have been on the draft board. I am still baffled by the Hornets decision to reject that trade. Not only do I think the organization made a bad move by rejecting the trade, but also I think, Kaminsky will be a role player at best in the NBA. He ll stick around for a while because he s a seven footer who can hit a mid range shot. He is a below average post player and he s a liability on defense. He shies away from contact and according to some scouts is Hard to get along with . Charlotte needed a big man, but Kaminsky might have been available at 16, but if he weren t, there would have been similar if not better options to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Bravo Company in Black Hearts by Jim Frederick Essay Black Hearts was about the 2005 2006 deployment of the 101st s second brigade s 1 502nd (First Strike) to Iraq. The book more specifically honed in on Bravo Company and their first platoon s decent into complete madness throughout the deployment. The 1 502nd and its commander Lt Col Kunk, was tasked with the mission of getting control of and hold the land in between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. Kunk was a particularly difficult man to get along with. He would explode and go on a tirade over just about anything, big or small. This caused serious problems at meetings when he only wanted things his way and would personally attack his commanders who he thought he could not trust. The redundant, mundane task of manning the TCPs would make the soldiers restless, tired and complacent; an extremely dangerous combination when in a combat zone. The TCPs would cause a lot of problems throughout the entire deployment. The first catastrophe to hit Bravo Company, and 1st platoon in particular, was the deaths of SSG Nelson and SGT Casica from 3rd SQD. They were both shot point blank while trying to talk to a familiar civilian that they had spoken to previously while manning a TCP. This was the start of the downward spiral that 1st platoon went through during the deployment. Continuing after this incident, the company was still spread very thin, having too many tasks and not enough people. Having to go out on a 20 hour mission and then have to go back out right after you get to the FOB hoping for a bit of relaxing time was a serious moral killer. This didn t not help the fact that 1st platoon already had been taking out bottled anger and remorse for their lost comrades out on insurgent and civilian alike. To them they were all the enemy. The next big blow the 1st platoon was the deaths of 1LT Britt and SPC Lopez. • 34. Speech On Organic Cosmetics Every time you look into the mirror, you find the natural health of your skin deteriorating from problems like aging, acne, blackheads, wrinkles, dark circles etc. The reason is not only the physiological changes in the skin, due to aging, but the harsh chemicals that come in contact with our skin. Certified organic cosmetics can provide safe, healthy solutions and benefits to one s skin. Our skin, being the largest organ of the body, is very sensitive, very porous (over 70% seepage into the body through the bloodstream), and when it comes in contact with harsh, toxic chemicals, permanent damage can be caused. These chemicals are not always associated with the environment that we live in or the food we eat but, many times, can be directly connected to the cosmetics that we use. These cosmetics, used daily, can be really harsh on our skin as they contain many toxic chemicals that cause permanent damage to the skin s health. Let s be clear.
