Modern Day Dress Codes
For decades to even centuries, dress codes have been established for people of every single era.
Whether it may be the 1990 s and 2000 s, the people of that era created a new sense of style in which
was passed down to other generations until this very modern day. New patterns and colors were added
to clothing bringing in a new dress code for that time period. The styles, we as individuals come up
with , are our presumptions that we have created them. The styles we may have in our modern day
may seem unique and authentic, however they are an accumulations of pass styles added with a unique
twist to it. Unlike the 1990 s, the 2000 s introduced a new sense of style to people allowing them to
express themselves through their clothing. When you

Wesfarmar Financial Ratios
According to Titman et al. 2012, Financial management is the study of how people and businesses
evaluate investments and raise funds to finance them (Titan, 2012, p. 3). Lately, it has become very
important to investors and creditors to pay attention to the data and statistics that are being released by
companies and their financial status. The information that is released in these statements allows
investors and creditors to know the safety and profitability of their investments.

The Discourse of On Reserve Housing
The substance of this paper will be to discuss the discourse regarding the inequalities facing aboriginal
peoples living on reserves in the northwestern corner of Ontario. Inequality is not naturally occurring;
poverty is not an innate cultural trait that accumulates at the feet of the marginalized (Schick St.Denis,
2005, p.304). Stephens, Nettleton and Porter stated in the Lancet (2005) Aboriginal people in Canada

Access to the communities is provided year round by Wasaya Airline and airstrips that are maintained
by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. Of course, each Aboriginal community is unique with its
own set of traditions and ways of healing but my observation after working within the communities
for over ten years is that they all suffer from improperished conditions and substandard housing. The
local economies are primarily based upon government services (Indian and Northern Affairs) (INAC)
and small business. Most of the reserves have six hundred people or less, and each community has a
nursing station. The nursing stations are well maintained functional buildings built in or about the
early 1960 s and are maintained by Health Canada. First Nations and Inuit Health (FNIH) maintains
responsibility for primary care services in the majority of the northwest Ontario reserve communities.
In the north, nurses are the primary care givers working in an extended scope of practice, and client
care is centrally coordinated by nurses working within interdisciplinary teams. The majority of the
nursing and medical staff working for FNIH in the Sioux Lookout zone are Caucasian and do not
come from local communities. This could outwardly appear as a reinforcement of power relations in
the racial identities. There is only very limited cultural training given to employees when they are
employed by FNIH. Medical advice and

No-Shows And Nobodies Research Paper
Nerds, No Shows, and Nobodies In any classroom of any school, there are always three types of
students. A seating plan can easily reveal each type of student: sitting in the front row are the nose
picking Nerds, in the back row are the napping No Shows, and in the middle row, sit the neglected
nobodies. These classes of students may seem stereotypical, but they are as accurate as a Nerd s math
calculations. To start off, these students race to the front seats on the first day, are always raising their
hands in class (because they know everything), and carry collections of tissues, which are sometimes
already used, for their frequent and almost daily nose bleeds. This description could only refer to the
Nerds. Nerds are the classic overachieving, comic book reading, geeks. They may seem to know
everything in class, but Nerds are extremely awkward when it comes to socializing, unless it s a comic
book convention. If they are not solving quadratic equations for their own amusement, they can most
definitely be found digging their noses, while playing Minecraft. Nerds are also very clumsy and
uncoordinated. They may be able to calculate the rate of acceleration as a basketball is thrown into a
net, but they sure cannot shoot one. To continue, Nerds are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These students are the Nobodies. They blend in and want to stay away from the spotlight, which the
Nerds and No Shows are both shone in. Nobodies are ordinary students, who get average to decent

All About France
France is located in the northern hemisphere around 46° N and 2° E in Western Europe. As shown in
the political map of Europe in Figure 1 above, France is bordered by the Bay of Biscay to the west, the
English Channel to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south as well as the countries of Spain,
Andorra, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium.
France is the largest country in Western Europe with a total land area of around 213,010 square miles
(551,695 square kilometers). Two thirds of the country is made up of fertile plains with about half of
the land under cultivation.
The physical map in Figure 2 shows that France s major mountain ranges are mostly in the south,
including the Alps, Pyrenees, and Massif Central. Its major rivers are the Seine, Rhine, and Rhône.
About a quarter of the land area is covered in forests which is a valuable environmental resource.
Cities and Regions of France
France is made up of 27 administrative regions but 5 of these are overseas territories. This leaves 22
regions in mainland France as shown in the map in Figure 3.
Each region has its own regional council, with elected members and local administration. They have
responsibility for making decisions about transport, infrastructure, communication, development,
tourism and education.
The capital city of France is Paris. Other large cities include Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Nantes, Marseille,
Nice, Strasbourg, Toulon and Toulouse.

Mccarthy Writing Style In Mccarthy s The Road
4. Do some research on your author s style. Then, using the research as well as the novel, analyze the
elements that make the author s work unique? In other words, how is the work different from others
you ve read? Consider diction, style, text structure, setting, characters, etc.
In The Road, McCarthy writing style is minimalistic and poetic, but at times when he s describing
something lost to the world, his writing becomes more archaic in word choice while still retaining its
simplicity. Early in the book, McCarthy states He rose and stood tottering in that cold autistic dark
with his arms outheld for balance while the vestibular calculations in his skull cranked out their
reckonings... Something nameless in the night, lode or matrix. To which he and the stars were
common satellite. Like the great pendulum in its rotunda scribing through the long day movements of
the universe of which you may say it knows nothing and yet know it must, (McCarthy 29). Words
such as autistic, vestibular, reckonings, lode, and rotunda are rarely used in today s world. In addition
to these unusual words, McCarthy also has an odd way of phrasing them together (e.g. Like the great
pendulum in its rotunda scribing through the long day movements of the universe ), giving the book a
strong feeling of lost beauty. This contradicts the plain, repetitive interaction between the man and his
son. This writing style can be parallel to how the beauty in goodness in the world was lost after

Union School Corporation Is An Iconic Treasure At The...
A school birthed by a consolidation, Union School Corporation is an iconic treasure to the small
community of Modoc, Indiana. It was formed in 1952 to accommodate students from all over. The
closing of Modoc School, Huntsville, and Losantville consequently make up the Union School
Corporation district. The building was finished accordingly in 1957 allowing it to open and start
enrolling. Union Has been running strong until a few years ago when one of the previous
superintendents made some very bad choices leading the school into money deficits. Since then the
community has been trying to up the student population to just keep the school running from hosting
foreign exchange students in taking a trip to China to recruit more students that way.
Everyone knows what it is like to be a student with 12 years of high school and or some college

Social Media And Social Isolationism
There is a reason that AA meetings and other addiction recovery programs are face to face and not
virtual. This is because human beings are innately social and therefore, can perform actions for the
betterment of themselves and others. Without this face to face contact that social media encourages,
people, like Timothy, find themselves being swallowed up by the effects social isolationism has on
one s physical and physiological well being, however as we will see later on, social media can be
extremely beneficial in helping those with social isolationism. The dangers The effects of social
isolationism can be devastating both physically and psychologically. In the physical aspect, people
who suffer from social isolationism find themselves feeling like they have less energy, and vitality in
life. They simply don t feel up to the tasks at hand and are tired all the time. Social isolationism can
also affect how many times we get sick and how our bodies heal. For example, those who suffer from
this find that when they are injured or sick, that their bodies take considerably longer to recover and to
feel normal as well as they find themselves getting sick or injured more often than others. Moreover,
there is also a greater likelihood of chronic illness such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Life
spans can be shortened considerably and the general thoughts and feeling about life are negative and
unhappy. Social isolationism has also been linked to at the other end of the

Racial Stereotypes In The Television Industry
Media influences the minds of those who consume it. Portrayals in media quickly become the norm as
the consumers believe the strangest of headlines. Representations in media, specifically television, are
subconsciously analyzed and placed into the mindset of the viewer. Racial depictions in television and
the lack thereof, for example, influence the perspective of the consumer and portray a false reality.
Although the future for more racial diversity in the American television industry looked promising,
this white dominated industry has proven that not much has changed in regards to hiring, including,
and depicting more ethnic groups and people of color in entertainment. People of color are given
stereotypical roles that presents the race in a negative manner; its depiction on television gives
additional credibility to the stereotypes. Tokenistic representation hinders the nation s ability to see the
reality of diversity in the world by limiting the numbers and types of people that are seen through the

Latinos, specifically, are portrayed in a matter than denounces their capability, intelligence, and,

given low class jobs such as a maid or janitor, while characters with occupations such as a doctor,
secretary, or boss, is likely to be white (Gosling, 3). Depicting Latinos in this light alter the way the
viewers perceive them away from the screen. Instead of averting racial stereotypes, the television

Hitchhiker s Guide To The Galaxy Analysis
A great example of sci fi parody is The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy. This movie is about a man
named Arthur Dent, who is trying to make it by after the Earth was destroyed in order to make way for
a construction project (The Hitchhiker s). This movie is extremely random and the plot does not have
one straight line. It is very hard to follow and the goals of the heroes are constantly changing. The
main thing this movie did was critique society. Even though the Earth was destroyed in the first
twenty minutes of this movie, the traditions of the Earth were constantly ridiculed through the science
fiction aspect. One example of this can be seen through the alien creatures named the Vogons. The
Vogons are fat, leathered skinned beasts that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are cruel, heartless, and only care about the system by which they live. This is a critique of the
people who run our society. This is saying how terrible and inefficient our bureaucratic system is.
They use the science fiction element to separate us a little from the reality of it all and then they use
the parody to make us see how ridiculous our society really is. There was a lot of critiquing society in
this movie and it was done in this pattern of separation and explanation. One of the main characters in
this movie was the President of the galaxy named Zaphod (The Hitchhiker s). Zaphod has a lot of
science fiction characteristics that separate him from our world. One of his characteristics is that he
has two heads. The parody of him is that throughout the film was showing how clueless and vain he
was. This parody of his cluelessness shows how politicians can be. The character of Zaphod was
meant to comment on the fake two headed politicians of our society. They are just meant to stand
there, smile, and let someone else do all the work. Zaphod is just a figurehead and the writer is
implying that this is what the people who are running are country

Factors Contributing For Public Organizations
3 Contributing Factors of Corruption in Public Organizations
The contributing factors of corruption refer to that some aspects can increase the degree of corruption
under the same condition of other aspects. These factors are various, this part will concentrate on two
factors: the scale of public organizations; the gap between revenue and expenditure of fulfilling
responsibility.
3.1 The Scale of Public Organizations
The operation of public organizations need to spend considerable amounts of financial and material
support (Dixit, 1997). The administrative expenditure of government covers everyday expenses (the
payment of payroll and office expenses) and capital expenditures (the procurement of office supplies
and the build of public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, with the expanding scale of government, the number of supervisory unit should increase
in order to avoid the abuse of power. Ultimately, the cost of supervision need to increase.
In conclusion, the administrative spending will increase with the expanding scale of government. It
supposes that the government revenue is lawful incomes, which means that lawful incomes can be
legally used as administrative spending. Following cases will occur: the government will continue
functioning if the government revenue is greater than the expenditure under the current conditions; the
government cannot afford the additional social and public welfare undertakings if the government
revenue is equal to the government spending under the current conditions, but the public officials can
still maintain their normal salaries and welfare; if the government revenue is less than the government
expenditure and the government generated the financial deficit, there are three solutions: firstly, the
government can cut down the number of workforce, thus the benefits of some public officials will be
influenced; secondly, the government can reduce the benefits of each public official, this solution is
difficult to implement because it will damage the legitimate interests of every public official; or the
government will cut down expenses on public utilities. In the light of the definition of corruption, the
last choice belongs to corrupt behaviors. Likewise, the last choice

A Successful Training Plan for Landslide Limousine Company
Introduction The purpose of this report is to communicate a successful training plan to Bradley
Stonefiled for his Landslide Limousine company. The report will contain three sections in the main
body: Needs Assessment, Training Methods and Evaluation Strategies. This report will contain all the
necessary information to put this company on the right track and begin enjoying a competitive
advantage once implemented and running at full capacity.
Needs Assessment Before any training begins, it is absolutely necessary that the problems are
identified so as to create a plan that specifically addresses these needs. Blindly training people on
random tasks does nothing to accomplish any mission. Only when focus and precise training is
applied in the correct area, will the organization begin to grow into something stronger. Brown (2002)
wrote to identify specific problem areas in the organization, HR and management must know what the
problems are so that the most appropriate training will be directed to those organizational problems,
(p.569.). The needs assessment portion of this training plan is further divided into five different areas
of interest. These include: Environmental analysis, organization analysis, demographical analysis,
operational analysis and individual analysis. Each part is important, and when combined, present a
comprehensive view of what is needed at Landslide.

The first place to look for a need to change is in the environment. This

Trimyristin Lab Report
Aims of Experiment
To isolate trimyristin from a natural product, named nutmeg, using solvent extraction.
To purify the isolated trimyristin by recrystallization.
To get infrared spectrum of the isolated trimyristin.
Introduction
Many natural products such as medicine and cosmetic which are extracted from animals and plants are
around us. Like this, Trimyristin, which is composed of triglycerides, is that it can be isolated from
nutmeg seed. It is widely used as hair conditioner or oil. One of the important method to extract pure
trimyristin from nutmeg is reflux condenser. The reflux condenser is used in case that we want to

Then filtered the solution quickly with the stemless funnel, 32 fold filter paper and conical flask. To
get more colorless liquid, repeated this process 3 times. Then, placed the conical flask in an ice bath
and waited until crystallization finished. Isolated the purified product by suction filtration. Finally, put
half spoon of recrystallized product and Nujol powder in an agate mortar and grinded finely. Then,
made the mull and transferred the mull to the bottom salt plate of a demountable cell. Then run the
spectrum.
Precautions
Acetone, which used to mix with ground nutmeg seed and wash the residue, is not very toxic but
highly flammable and also has easily evaporable property. From this reason, we have to pay special
attention to flame around us when doing experiment.
Paraffin, which composes paraffin oil, is also flammable so that it can catch fire easily.
When adding ground nutmeg seed, acetone and heating it with heating mantle, it is important to gently
swirl the solution to avoid bumping. It can be more secure to add anti bumping

Operant Behavior Analysis
This article defined the main accounts of antecedent processes in operant behavior, it presented a
theoretical review of applied research on antecedent events in behavior disorders, and lastly it
recognized some promising areas for upcoming studies. The article talks about three theorists and their
theories. These theorists include Skinner, Kantor, and Michael. Skinner is known for his reinforcement
theory, however, he had writings of the environmental settings under which behavior may occur.
Differential reinforcement of responding in the presence of discriminative stimuli is how Skinner
believed stimulus control over behavior is developed. Discrimination describes a certain functional
relationship between antecedent events, behavior, and consequences that deliveries to a variety of
circumstances. With this said, variables that are separate from the accessibility of reinforcement may
also affect the probability that behavior will happen. Skinner offered several processes to ... Show

Kantor presented a theoretical system that accounted for complexities in human behavior. Kantor
proclaimed that the normal methods of behavior analysis could not cover to complex human behavior.
He disapproved of behavior analysts for not searching intensely enough into the nature of stimuli.
Kantor proposed an alternative system, but it is also unfinished pending more extensive analysis of
functional relationships. Michael has provided the clearest and most detailed articulation of the term
establishing operation. Establishing operation (EO) temporarily adjusts the reinforcing effectiveness
of some other object or event, and it can either increase or decrease the effectiveness of a given form
of reinforcement. The article includes the assessment of antecedents. Talks about approaches such as

Eating Disorders Program Analysis
Eating disorders have long been a problem in the United States. Most fail to grasp the severity until
someone close to them experiences the difficulties. Personally, I realized the prevalence of eating
disorders when several children endeared to me commented that they feel too fat or skipped meals in
order to not become obese. Instead of a teenage friend at school that one would assume, younger
children that range from seven to ten years of age made these comments. Realizing the problem, I
decided that I would create a program that would educate younger children regarding the seriousness
and effects of eating disorders. Before designing the program, I researched for weeks in order to find
facts and statistics concerning eating disorders in the United States. The research proved that disorders
begin in children as young as age seven or eight. Additionally, pre teenagers predominantly suffer
from eating disorders. The research also showed that countless victims remain unnoticed due to a
reluctance to tell an adult. Peers lack the education to recognize a presented disorder. In order to curb
the problem, pre teens need to be taught how to identify a disorder and how to aid a friend. To educate
the pre teens, I developed a program called I Like Me Because. The program involves an interactive

What Role Does Morality Play In A Utopian Society
The concept of utopia is one which has many differing connotations and is therefore also one which
cannot be confined to one interpretation alone. The term is commonly used to represent a community
or society that, in theory, possesses highly desirable or near perfect qualities; however, these
encompassing ideals, which arguably place emphasis on egalitarian principles of equality, are
implemented in a number of ways and are subsequently based on varying ideologies, thus insisting on
varying views of morality. The word itself, which was first coined by Sir Thomas More in the early
sixteenth century and used to describe a fictional island society in the Atlantic Ocean, was taken from
the Greek οὐ ( not ) and τόπος ( place ), literally translating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The task at hand is to establish the perception of a utopic past, and therefore it is with regard to these

The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and Algernon Charles Swinburne s Hermaphroditus seek to expose
and challenge the mechanisms of traditional views regarding spiritualism and the physical form, as
well as critiquing the mode of normative sexuality and representations of the body. Another important
concept to consider alongside this is that of dystopia, which is characterized by dehumanization,
totalitarian governments, and all matters associated with a cataclysmic decline in society. Dystopic
societies are usually set in the future and provide an antonymic, frightening opposition to the general
concept of utopia. Rather than portraying an idyllic state of civilisation which promises an exit from
the cycle of life and death, the term dystopia is used to draw attention to real world issues which if
unaddressed could potentially lead to such a dystopia like

Impact of Education Essay
Impact of Education Education is one of the most essential necessities of a personal life because
without education, we would not have a brighter future. In two essays Learning to Read and Write and
A Homemade Education , Malcolm and Douglass describe what they have gone through in order to
become more successful in their pursuits in life. While Malcolm X lived part of his life in prison, he
spent his time writing numerous definitions from a dictionary amongst the walls and tables. The
elements of the dictionary motivated him to not only become a free man, but a well educated one at
that. Douglass, who also taught himself, began his life in slavery. But after a series of attempts, he

Another impact of achieving an education is that it brings knowledge to one s life. Knowledge is a
powerful benefit for people in their understandings. Both Douglass and Malcolm also recognized the
power of knowledge that impacted them into following education. With great effort, Malcolm was
fascinated with the knowledge he gained I could for the first time pick up a book and read and now
begin to understand what the book was saying (81). He made a progress in reading to understand the
contents of a book even if it is the first time he picked it up. Knowledge also assisted Douglass in
finding the injustice of slavery and motivating him to gain his freedom. In the essay Learning to Read
and Write , he states that the more I read, the more I was lead to abhor and detest my enslavers. I could
regard them in no other light than a band of successful robbers, who had left their home, and gone to
Africa, and stolen us from our homes and in a stargerland reduced us to slavery. (64). He became
cognizant of what fate was in hold for the enslavers. That idea impacted him to gain more knowledge
and escape slavery to share his knowledge and what must be done. Today, people who want to gain
knowledge have to go to school for their education. People that attend are taught the essential lessons
that they need in order to move forward in life. Out of everyone in my family, I am the only one given
the chance to go to college.

John Scopes Research Paper

The Effect of the Scopes Trial on Education
The 1920s was a decade of significant importance in the world of science.
In 1859, Charles Darwin declared his theory of evolution humans had descended from apes. This
ideology was unpopular throughout the minds of freedom and Jesus loving Americans. Although 1920
s technology was on its way to new findings, the traditionally southern public eye didn t seem to be
fascinated with the thought of people descending from humongous and hairy beings. The American
Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) supported Darwin s theory, though. The Union was formed to protect
the rights proclaimed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. With that mission in mind, the ACLU
paid for John Scopes defense team and promoted that he challenge the law (Leinwand 206). John
Scopes was a science teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, specializing in biology. He used a state approved
textbook to teach his students, but because the book included Darwin s theory of evolution, Scopes
was not legally able to teach that portion of the text. He was then arrested for violating the Butler Act,
which was just recently passed, and defended the ACLU (Green 164).
Not only did the majority of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Clean Water Act Argument Essay
Furthermore, the Shore Protection Act is applicable to the transportation of municipal and commercial
waste in coastal waters aiming to minimize debris from being deposited into coastal waters from
inadequate waste handling procedures by waste transporting vessels (Laws That Protect). The Center
for Biodiversity had petitioned the EPA to begin regulating plastics as a pollutant under The Clean
Water Act a crucial first step in reducing the amount of plastic. The Clean Water Act is the nation s
strongest law protecting water quality. Recognition of plastic pollution under the clean water act

Serving as the number one source of our plastic use, companies opt for plastic containers because it s
easy, feasible, and convenient. Food packaging alone makes up for 30 40% of landfills with much of
that plastic being carried into the oceans. Going off of this, a new concept that s quickly becoming
popular are package free grocery stores. These cost effective grocery stores have everything you could
possible need in bulk form and consumers bring glass or reusable containers, or cloth bags and fill
them with the food they need. First popping up in cities like Berlin, Vienna, and Barcelona, many are
finding this a more sustainable and eco friendly option resulting in these sort of grocery stores quickly
spreading across the ocean, with the first one in the United States expected to open in Brooklyn, New
York. Business operators are extremely optimistic that this could serve a very impactful solution to
getting rid of unnecessary plastic. (Che Jenny).
In conclusion, it should have been learned that the issue of plastic pollution has become ruinous. The
cost of repair and the inconvenience of lifestyle changes cannot compare to the frightful future this
planet is headed. At current rates, hazards are not just inflicted on Earth s oceans but individual human
health and the other creatures that rightly inhabit this land. With this concern

2013). Ashley would go out of her way to do everything for him, while there were days Brock would
barely give her the time of day. This eventually caused distress and Ashley attempted to restore equity
by asking Brock for more. Though Ashley tried to believe that their relationship was more equitable
after this, the real changes were not there and so Ashley left the relationship. This is a perfect example
of the mate selection theory that is equity

Essay about Golf Galaxy Assesment
Retail Analysis To begin, I d like to first introduce Golf Galaxy. Golf Galaxy opened its first store in
1997 making it a rather new however rapidly growing company, and now has over 45 stores spanning
19 states with an average size of 17,000 square feet. Golf Galaxy has quickly differentiated itself from
its competitors by becoming the first interactive golf store providing superstore design, selection, and
pricing along with pro shop knowledge and service, which is usually only found at your local country

been determined that Golf Galaxy lies in both fields. That is, they are focused partially on both the

Pearl Harbor Persuasive Essay
AIRRAID ON PEARL HARBOR X THIS IS NO DRILL. On the morning of December 7th, 1941,
this urgent message was sent to all U.S. Navy ships near Hawaii just minutes after Japanese planes
began to attack Pearl Harbor. Used as a means to pull the United States into World War II, the events
of Pearl Harbor prompted the government to take action. After the events of Pearl Harbor, the
government took actions it deemed necessary for the safety of the citizens of the United States.
In order to understand why the government took the actions they did, people must understand what
happened before, during, and right after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Before the events of Pearl Harbor,
the United States was an isolationist nation. Though, it had abandoned ... Show more content on

Human Activity And The Environment
The Earth is dominated by human activity and the impact so far has been overwhelming. As a species
we have changed the environment more than any other species. What drives us to do this can be
blamed for success to survive and adapt in most environments. Humanity learns to take control and
use the environment to benefit from the resources there. The demand for what we want and what we
need to survive is bought by currency and controlled by society and politics. Science wants to create
easier ways to change the environment. While religion and culture try to enhance beliefs and values
among the world s people. The Earth s resource base is what makes life possible upon it. Humans are
a part of the ecosystem and need to use the same resources as everything else. The problem is that we
take a majority and pollute a fair amount in the process of taking them. The health of the environment
can be overlooked when profit is an option. Companies or even individuals can take short cuts in
doing a job and pollute the land or water. Economies are important in our lives and it is a main driver
in environment change. If it comes to money, the question is any being made and how much does it
cost to do whatever? Sometimes a regulation can cost a company more money and will try to change
the law to benefit themselves. They greatly influence all the groups that create change and can be
positive or negative. Politicians can put into law regulations that help preserve the environment, for

My Experience At The Mountain View Hospital
Reflection
This semester I volunteered my time at the Mountain View Hospital in the Women s Department,
specifically in the postpartum section. I chose this volunteer opportunity because it significantly
relates to my career path and passion. I am biological sciences major and
Psychology minor (pre medical) and the goal of my medical career is to become an
Obstetrician/gynecologist and then potentially specialize in the fertility and infertility of women.
Throughout the course of this semester I would volunteer at Mountain View on Friday evenings. My
main job in the postpartum section was to attend to the basic needs of the new mothers, I would
provide water, ice chips, snacks, and clean linens when needed. I manned the main entrance of ...

However, I can do other things to provide care, compassion, and relief to the post partum mothers. On
one of my days volunteering I had a particularly nice experience, which reflects how volunteers can
provide a service to their community through small acts of kindness. A mother just had her third child,
her other two children, who seemed to be no older that 5 or 6 years old, were restless and quite out of
control. There was a male figure who came and went a few times, but he didn t seem to have any
attachment to the other two children. The mother seemed overwhelmed probably because of the
exhaustion and stress of childbirth. Also, she was stuck in bed while her incisions from her C section
healed. According to the nurses, she was only permitted to walk a lap around the nurse s station every
few hours, let alone chase around her other rowdy children. So I had an idea: in the post partum
department we have these wagons that are decorated with characters from Winnie the Pooh and
Finding Nemo. To offer the mother some rest, I asked if I could pull her children around the Women s
Department in the wagon. The mother accepted my offer and I loaded the two children, Leah and
Ryder, into the wagon. I pulled the two kids around for about 45 minutes. When I came back to the
mother s room, she thanked me many times. It was personally rewarding to help the mother, even
though it was just a small gesture.

Informative Essay On Homelessness
On a cold rainy Saturday in December, just two days before Christmas, in 2006 Andy Sandness set out
to do some grocery shopping on his day off from work. Everything was going as planned until an
announcement came over the speaker at Piggly Wiggly saying Attention shoppers please do not panic
and take cover immediately. Naturally panic immediately broke out all over the store as gunshots rang
through the produce aisle. Babies were crying, mothers were covering their children, elderly people
were struggling to move to a safe place, and food was flooding the aisles. Sandness, a local rancher
and volunteer firefighter/emt sprung into action. He alerted authorities and located the shooter. A

Many benefits were held in honor of Sandness to help him pay back all of his medical expenses. Sadly
his days of being a firefighter were over. A few months after being home Sandness was called to the
fire station where he found many familiar faces that were along with him in Piggly Wiggly that cold
rainy day in December of 2006 honoring him with a plaque and saying there will now be a day in the
community in honor of not only his braveness but his selflessness. When Sandness was called up to be
presented with his plaque and went up to give a speech he was greeted by some unknown faces. With
one look I felt an overwhelming connection with these people I have never met, Sandness said. The
microphone was handed over to the woman, as she began to speak her voice cracked and her face
flooded with tears. Sandness then realized that this woman was the mother of young man, a fallen
soldier home on leave when he was assaulted and killed after trying to stop a robbery, that he was now
wearing on his face. Up to date Sandness is in very close contact with this family. This event was
never expected in the small town of Hutchinson, Minnesota. But this event will continue to remind
everyone, that tragedies will occur everywhere but when everyone comes together, with enough love

Assisted Suicide Argumentative Essay
Dogs do not have many advantages over people, but one of them is extremely important: euthanasia is
not forbidden by law in their case; animals have the right to a merciful death.
― Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being
One of the most controversial topics that is being debated today, both morally and legally, is assisted
suicide, sometimes known as active euthanasia. Assisted suicide is the act of directly intervening in
order to end the life of a terminally ill patient (i.e. administering a large amount of sleeping pills). The
word euthanasia , comes from Latin eu for good and thanatos for death (OCRT 1). Many people in this
country are existing in a living death , suffering on a day to day basis. The ... Show more content on

They believe that assisted suicide crosses the moral border into government condoned killing. The
Christian, Jewish, and Muslim religions all seem to strictly discourage assisted suicide, as well as all
types of suicide. They stress that life is God s alone to give, and God s alone to take (Van Biema 61).
Traditional Christian beliefs against suicide were first affirmed by Thomas Aquinas, a writer in the
early thirteenth century. He emphasized that suicide (and assisted suicide) violates one s natural desire
to live, harms other people, and that life is God s gift to give and take (OCRT 2). Not all religions are
against suicide, either. Hinduism promotes the taking of one s own life instead of living with dishonor
(Flanders 49).
Whatever a religion may offer as it s belief about suicide, the followers of that religion do not always
uphold that belief. At Masada, for example, a sect of fervently religious Jews known as Zealots held
off Roman invaders for two years. When it became apparent that defeat was inevitable, their leader
convinced the remaining nine hundred and sixty of them to commit suicide (Flanders 5). And Michel
de Montaigne, a Christian writer living in France in the mid sixteenth century wrote five essays
arguing that suicide is a matter of personal choice, and it is a viable option under some circumstances
(OCRT 1).
The American support of active euthanasia has been seen in national organizations

Debate has existed in the world for hundreds of years, developing at the beginning of humanity but
more publicly in the early eighteenth century. Humans love to argue their point of view with others in
order to determine the correct viewpoint on various matters. Throughout the world, many approach a
debate with opinions formulated from different outlooks on life. Perceptions of a situation establish
themselves based on where and how a person was raised. When elaborating on historical events, more
often than not, two passionate sides emerge, those who focus on injustices and freedom and those who
look at events focused on traditional values. After examining two takes on colonial America it is

influencers of all time, Billie Holiday. Eleanora Fagan was born on April 7, 1915 and is from the
Quaker City formally known as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Eleanora childhood could be best
described as unsteady, at times. During these trying points in her life, Eleanora enjoyed singing along

describe the story of how he was led to become a prophet. Samuel s parents were faithful believers.
Hannah, Samuel s mother, was barren for a long period of time, which inflicted a tremendous amount
of distress on her. One day Hannah decided to visit the temple to pray to the Lord. Eli, the temple
priest prophesied to Hannah that her desires to bear a child will be answered. It came to pass where

Compare And Contrast Fences And Death Of A Salesman
The two plays that I chose to read are, Death of a Salesman and Fences. While reading these two plays
and examining the father and son from both stories, I found a special connection with both of them
with personal life experiences and stories. While comparing and contrasting these characters, I
discovered great insight through other peoples life experiences with failure and success. Although
Death of a Salesman is a more tragic story and Fences is more of a coming of age story, the
relationships between the characters are similar. August Wilson the author of Fences, was born in

As Willy goes on with his life and tends to get a little older, sales become a little more difficult for him

failure with regret and many emotions. The audience can relate to this story because everyone has

not, people can connect with Willy because he was driven to succeed. Im sure many people had a lot
of sympathy for Willy because he felt that his only answer was suicide simply because he didn t meet

Attitudes And Attitudes Of Older Adults Residing Within A...
Design The research question is focused on emotions and attitudes of older adults residing within a
CCRC, therefore a qualitative descriptive design was chosen for this study. Qualitative descriptive
research supports the researcher remaining close to the words people use to describe their event or
situation (Sandelowski, 2000). Focus groups will used to answer the question, what are the emotions
and attitudes that prevent residents in a CCRC from accepting the guidance of professional staff in
regards to transitioning to a higher level of care or receiving assistance in their home? Focus groups
by design support hearing from a group of people with a specific focus or interest, specific
characteristics, will provide data of a qualitative nature to support answering the question of interest
(Krueger,1988). The participants will state what the attitudes and thoughts are when facing the
possibility of accepting assistance in their apartment or transitioning to a higher level of care such as
AL or NC, and what the barriers are through open ended questions. Sample The population of interest
is older adults residing in a CCRC therefore purposive sampling will be used. Purposive sampling
ensures that certain types of individuals or persons displaying certain attributes are included in the

Designing Spaces Made For A Space
As designers our role is to make a space not only aesthetically pleasing but functional. However
countless spaces to this day do not function properly because every person who enters it cannot use it.
Accessibility is often not considered in many interior space designs, which excludes people with
difficulties of mobility, vision, hearing, or dexterity. This exclusion or added difficulty means the
design has failed. As we have continued to learn about human factors with a focus on accessibility, I
have now looked at how I should design much differently. I am not thinking how would I like it , I am
now thinking how could everyone use this . Universal design is of utmost importance and as designers
we have a duty to ensure everyone that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example weakness, arthritis or low stamina, adding the wheelchair radius of 1700 mm eliminates
more of the complications. The next design feature and ergonomic consideration for the Assisted
Living Centre was an accessible two level reception desk. This design can and should be a feature that
comes with all reception desks. Having a two level reception desk allows people to either be served
standing, or served in a wheelchair. It also ensures children to be seen and helped. Having an obstacle
free desk where a wheelchair can fit underneath so the person can seek the assistance they need is
optimal universal design. There was also a lot of thought that went into the flooring choices for not
only the common areas but the retirement suites. Dealing with seniors there is a higher concern for
falls or slips. Choosing a floor that allowed a wheelchair or walker to pass over it as well provide
traction and grip was a must. There also had to be considerations of the hardness of the floor to
eliminate any chance of injury steering clear of unforgiving hardwoods was the decision that had to be
made. Flooring can be aesthetically pleasing as well contribute to the safety and ease of use in a space.
That is why taking these anthropometric considerations and adding them to our studio designs created
a more successful and accessible space. While in a space you should feel good, and that is where

Filipino Culture Essay
A look into Filipino culture
Filipino culture is a mix of east and western perspectives and is heavily rooted in Christianity. The
diversity of its people coupled with their ability to adapt and tolerate new ideas has created a fusion of
traditional and modern. Filipinos pride themselves in their Sociability, religious belief, and Family
oriented lifestyle.
Social Aspects Filipino culture focuses heavily on social interaction and although many Filipinos are
aware of western social norms and are tolerant of social miscues that would be rather damaging in
other conservative cultures. Although there are many western aspects to Filipino social behaviors it is
in many respects entirely different. For example teasing is a viable and acceptable form of social
interaction and is used in many aspects to draw attention to a serious issue without shaming the
involved parties. In addition, direct eye contact with a Filipino is discouraged as it implies aggression
and malevolence. Employer relations with their employees is considered a very important topic. It is
important to indulge employees or any underlings you may have with kindness and respect such
behavior is highly esteemed. Any rude behaviors to such individuals is considered arrogance and will
earn you poor marks with any community or organization you may work with.

The key tools to maintaining your identity There are many tools that one can use to maintain their
identity, nationally and internationally. A nation or land is where people have established their life,
their culture and their heart; sadly it has happened where people have been forced out of their
homeland. Great opening sentences. Mary Louise Pratt, Kenji Yoshino and Edward Said all present
very good methods of maintaining one s national identity in their essays. In Mary Louise Pratt s essay

If Pratt had a say in what was happening to the Palestine s in Edward Said s essay, I believe Pratt
would encourage the Palestinians to find safe houses. Superb connection! This part of the quote doesn
t quite fit, I would start the quote here, and set it up by saying that Pratt uses the concept of safe
houses as social and intellectual spaces where groups can constitute themselves as horizontal,
homogeneous, sovereign communities with high degrees of trust, shared understandings, temporary
protection from legacies of oppression . (Pratt) A safe house is somewhere you (avoid you)can go to
feel safe, where you will be surrounded by people just like yourself. Another one of Pratt s Arts of the
Contact Zone is also a key in maintaining your national identity is Transculturation. Transculturation
is the combining of two cultures or traits from two different cultures. This can help in maintaining
national identity by having the cultures meet half way, instead of conforming and letting your identity
slip away from you. Here, pull an example of transculturation from Said s text. For instance, the use of
the Mercedes. Even though Said describes it in negative terms, the use of the Mercedes has come in
handy for Palestinians. This is just a suggestion, you may find another example.

My Vision At Centipede Soccer

My vision this summer came alive with the help of the Kokomo YMCA, when I was granted the

was key to do to ensure they were all protected with the right shoes and shin guards. While watching
the first few practices and games, it was becoming clear to see which areas needed the most amount of

Asymmetrical Relationship Between Government And...
In our reading of Illicit by Naim (2005), he suggests that the asymmetrical relationship between the
government and transnational crime groups create a struggle for the government to respond to these
transnational crimes at a decent rate (Naim,2005). On the other side our reading in McMafia: A
Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld by Glenny (2009), suggest otherwise. Glenny
(2009) suggests that of a relationship between transnational crime groups, the public, the government
and this is a huge aspect to how the government responds to these factors. Both perspectives contain
their strengths and weaknesses, however the dependency theory by Glenny has more valid points than
that of the asymmetrical theory by Naim.
The asymmetrical theory by Naim says that the differences between the government and that of
transnational crime creates asymmetry (Naim,2005). Different government agencies are organized in a
hierarchical relationship that functions consistently from the top to the bottom (Naim,2005).
Governments must often follow legal processes that take up time and cost money. These governments
are forced to follow budget constraints, as well as legal and political reservation (Naim,2005). These
governments must operate within the control of their constitution. In comparison, these transnational
crime groups operate in less harsh structures, and are able to have more flexibility in their decision
making, as well as have unlimited funds available to them. The government s

  • 2. Modern Day Dress Codes For decades to even centuries, dress codes have been established for people of every single era. Whether it may be the 1990 s and 2000 s, the people of that era created a new sense of style in which was passed down to other generations until this very modern day. New patterns and colors were added to clothing bringing in a new dress code for that time period. The styles, we as individuals come up with , are our presumptions that we have created them. The styles we may have in our modern day may seem unique and authentic, however they are an accumulations of pass styles added with a unique twist to it. Unlike the 1990 s, the 2000 s introduced a new sense of style to people allowing them to express themselves through their clothing. When you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wesfarmar Financial Ratios According to Titman et al. 2012, Financial management is the study of how people and businesses evaluate investments and raise funds to finance them (Titan, 2012, p. 3). Lately, it has become very important to investors and creditors to pay attention to the data and statistics that are being released by companies and their financial status. The information that is released in these statements allows investors and creditors to know the safety and profitability of their investments. Discourse on Aboriginal Health Care Running head: THE INFLUENCE OF DISCOURSE ON HEALTH CARE The Discourse of On Reserve Housing Mary Ratensperger Athabasca University Centre of Nursing Science MNS 620 Culture and Health Margo deJong Berg The Discourse of On Reserve Housing The substance of this paper will be to discuss the discourse regarding the inequalities facing aboriginal peoples living on reserves in the northwestern corner of Ontario. Inequality is not naturally occurring; poverty is not an innate cultural trait that accumulates at the feet of the marginalized (Schick St.Denis, 2005, p.304). Stephens, Nettleton and Porter stated in the Lancet (2005) Aboriginal people in Canada suffer enormous inequalities in health and in accessibility to health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Access to the communities is provided year round by Wasaya Airline and airstrips that are maintained by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. Of course, each Aboriginal community is unique with its own set of traditions and ways of healing but my observation after working within the communities for over ten years is that they all suffer from improperished conditions and substandard housing. The local economies are primarily based upon government services (Indian and Northern Affairs) (INAC) and small business. Most of the reserves have six hundred people or less, and each community has a nursing station. The nursing stations are well maintained functional buildings built in or about the early 1960 s and are maintained by Health Canada. First Nations and Inuit Health (FNIH) maintains responsibility for primary care services in the majority of the northwest Ontario reserve communities. In the north, nurses are the primary care givers working in an extended scope of practice, and client care is centrally coordinated by nurses working within interdisciplinary teams. The majority of the nursing and medical staff working for FNIH in the Sioux Lookout zone are Caucasian and do not come from local communities. This could outwardly appear as a reinforcement of power relations in the racial identities. There is only very limited cultural training given to employees when they are employed by FNIH. • 5. No-Shows And Nobodies Research Paper Nerds, No Shows, and Nobodies In any classroom of any school, there are always three types of students. A seating plan can easily reveal each type of student: sitting in the front row are the nose picking Nerds, in the back row are the napping No Shows, and in the middle row, sit the neglected nobodies. These classes of students may seem stereotypical, but they are as accurate as a Nerd s math calculations. To start off, these students race to the front seats on the first day, are always raising their hands in class (because they know everything), and carry collections of tissues, which are sometimes already used, for their frequent and almost daily nose bleeds. This description could only refer to the Nerds. Nerds are the classic overachieving, comic book reading, geeks. They may seem to know everything in class, but Nerds are extremely awkward when it comes to socializing, unless it s a comic book convention. If they are not solving quadratic equations for their own amusement, they can most definitely be found digging their noses, while playing Minecraft. Nerds are also very clumsy and uncoordinated. They may be able to calculate the rate of acceleration as a basketball is thrown into a net, but they sure cannot shoot one. To continue, Nerds are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These students are the Nobodies. They blend in and want to stay away from the spotlight, which the Nerds and No Shows are both shone in. Nobodies are ordinary students, who get average to decent grades and fill up the void that separates the Nerds from the No Shows. When teachers praise a Nobody for a good grade in front of the class, everyone asks, who? , because they have no idea that student exists. Moreover, Nobodies have average looking appearances, average athleticism and average grades. There is not much to say about them and there is not much that they will ... • 7. Mccarthy Writing Style In Mccarthy s The Road 4. Do some research on your author s style. Then, using the research as well as the novel, analyze the elements that make the author s work unique? In other words, how is the work different from others you ve read? Consider diction, style, text structure, setting, characters, etc. In The Road, McCarthy writing style is minimalistic and poetic, but at times when he s describing something lost to the world, his writing becomes more archaic in word choice while still retaining its simplicity. Early in the book, McCarthy states He rose and stood tottering in that cold autistic dark with his arms outheld for balance while the vestibular calculations in his skull cranked out their reckonings... Something nameless in the night, lode or matrix. To which he and the stars were common satellite. Like the great pendulum in its rotunda scribing through the long day movements of the universe of which you may say it knows nothing and yet know it must, (McCarthy 29). Words such as autistic, vestibular, reckonings, lode, and rotunda are rarely used in today s world. In addition to these unusual words, McCarthy also has an odd way of phrasing them together (e.g. Like the great pendulum in its rotunda scribing through the long day movements of the universe ), giving the book a strong feeling of lost beauty. This contradicts the plain, repetitive interaction between the man and his son. This writing style can be parallel to how the beauty in goodness in the world was lost after ... This is because human beings are innately social and therefore, can perform actions for the betterment of themselves and others. Without this face to face contact that social media encourages, people, like Timothy, find themselves being swallowed up by the effects social isolationism has on one s physical and physiological well being, however as we will see later on, social media can be extremely beneficial in helping those with social isolationism. The dangers The effects of social isolationism can be devastating both physically and psychologically. In the physical aspect, people who suffer from social isolationism find themselves feeling like they have less energy, and vitality in life. The report will contain three sections in the main body: Needs Assessment, Training Methods and Evaluation Strategies. This report will contain all the necessary information to put this company on the right track and begin enjoying a competitive advantage once implemented and running at full capacity. Needs Assessment Before any training begins, it is absolutely necessary that the problems are identified so as to create a plan that specifically addresses these needs. Blindly training people on random tasks does nothing to accomplish any mission. Only when focus and precise training is applied in the correct area, will the organization begin to grow into something stronger. Brown (2002) wrote to identify specific problem areas in the organization, HR and management must know what the problems are so that the most appropriate training will be directed to those organizational problems, (p.569.). The needs assessment portion of this training plan is further divided into five different areas of interest. Personally, I realized the prevalence of eating disorders when several children endeared to me commented that they feel too fat or skipped meals in order to not become obese. Instead of a teenage friend at school that one would assume, younger children that range from seven to ten years of age made these comments. Realizing the problem, I decided that I would create a program that would educate younger children regarding the seriousness and effects of eating disorders. John Scopes Research Paper Alex Poppe Mrs. Lilley English III 14 April 2016 The Effect of the Scopes Trial on Education The 1920s was a decade of significant importance in the world of science. In 1859, Charles Darwin declared his theory of evolution humans had descended from apes. This ideology was unpopular throughout the minds of freedom and Jesus loving Americans. Although 1920 s technology was on its way to new findings, the traditionally southern public eye didn t seem to be fascinated with the thought of people descending from humongous and hairy beings. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) supported Darwin s theory, though. The Union was formed to protect the rights proclaimed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. With that mission in mind, the ACLU paid for John Scopes defense team and promoted that he challenge the law (Leinwand 206). When Sandness was called up to be presented with his plaque and went up to give a speech he was greeted by some unknown faces. With one look I felt an overwhelming connection with these people I have never met, Sandness said. The microphone was handed over to the woman, as she began to speak her voice cracked and her face flooded with tears. Sandness then realized that this woman was the mother of young man, a fallen soldier home on leave when he was assaulted and killed after trying to stop a robbery, that he was now wearing on his face. Up to date Sandness is in very close contact with this family. This event was never expected in the small town of Hutchinson, Minnesota. • 27. Assisted Suicide Argumentative Essay Dogs do not have many advantages over people, but one of them is extremely important: euthanasia is not forbidden by law in their case; animals have the right to a merciful death. ― Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being One of the most controversial topics that is being debated today, both morally and legally, is assisted suicide, sometimes known as active euthanasia. Assisted suicide is the act of directly intervening in order to end the life of a terminally ill patient (i.e. administering a large amount of sleeping pills). The word euthanasia , comes from Latin eu for good and thanatos for death (OCRT 1). Many people in this country are existing in a living death , suffering on a day to day basis. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They believe that assisted suicide crosses the moral border into government condoned killing. The Christian, Jewish, and Muslim religions all seem to strictly discourage assisted suicide, as well as all types of suicide. They stress that life is God s alone to give, and God s alone to take (Van Biema 61). Traditional Christian beliefs against suicide were first affirmed by Thomas Aquinas, a writer in the early thirteenth century. He emphasized that suicide (and assisted suicide) violates one s natural desire to live, harms other people, and that life is God s gift to give and take (OCRT 2). Not all religions are against suicide, either. Hinduism promotes the taking of one s own life instead of living with dishonor (Flanders 49). Whatever a religion may offer as it s belief about suicide, the followers of that religion do not always uphold that belief. At Masada, for example, a sect of fervently religious Jews known as Zealots held off Roman invaders for two years. When it became apparent that defeat was inevitable, their leader convinced the remaining nine hundred and sixty of them to commit suicide (Flanders 5). And Michel de Montaigne, a Christian writer living in France in the mid sixteenth century wrote five essays arguing that suicide is a matter of personal choice, and it is a viable option under some circumstances (OCRT 1). The American support of active euthanasia has been seen in national organizations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Humans love to argue their point of view with others in order to determine the correct viewpoint on various matters. Throughout the world, many approach a debate with opinions formulated from different outlooks on life. Perceptions of a situation establish themselves based on where and how a person was raised. When elaborating on historical events, more often than not, two passionate sides emerge, those who focus on injustices and freedom and those who look at events focused on traditional values. • 31. The Most Iconic Civil Rights Movement Influencers Of All... To begin my essay, I would like to start off with arguably the most iconic civil rights movement influencers of all time, Billie Holiday. Eleanora Fagan was born on April 7, 1915 and is from the Quaker City formally known as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Eleanora childhood could be best described as unsteady, at times. During these trying points in her life, Eleanora enjoyed singing along to records and escape the harsh reality of her life. When she made the move to New York with her mother around the age of 15, she began to perform at local clubs under the name Billie . After a while of singing solo, Billie was discovered by producer John Hammond and her career had begun. Holiday then began to work solo at the New York Café Society club. ... Nina dreamed of becoming a pioneer African American pianist but her hopes and dreams were crushed when her acceptance to an institution was denied. Unsurprisingly, Nina Simone s ethnicity influenced the rejection of her application. This did not stop her as she began to play at local bars and soon enough, at the age of 24, she caught the attention of several labels. One of Simones most famous and controversial pieces of art is the track titles Mississippi Goddam . This track rose to fame by unsettling her relationship with white listeners but strengthening her position within the civil rights movement. Nina Simones Mississippi Goddam was a track that the artist wrote following the horrific events that took place in Mississippi and Alabama. In Mississippi, a prominent civil rights activist named Medgar Evars was murdered. Meanwhile in Birmingham, Alabama a church was bombed taking the lives of four young African American women. Enraged, Simone retaliated by doing what she does best, music. She debuted the song at New York in Carnegie Hall to hundreds of listeners. Simone was destined to bring the truth of the horrors that occurred to her predominantly white crowd. Samuel is a prophet of the Lord, and these initial chapters describe the story of how he was led to become a prophet. Samuel s parents were faithful believers. Hannah, Samuel s mother, was barren for a long period of time, which inflicted a tremendous amount of distress on her. One day Hannah decided to visit the temple to pray to the Lord. Eli, the temple priest prophesied to Hannah that her desires to bear a child will be answered. While reading these two plays and examining the father and son from both stories, I found a special connection with both of them with personal life experiences and stories. While comparing and contrasting these characters, I discovered great insight through other peoples life experiences with failure and success. Although Death of a Salesman is a more tragic story and Fences is more of a coming of age story, the relationships between the characters are similar. • 35. Attitudes And Attitudes Of Older Adults Residing Within A... Design The research question is focused on emotions and attitudes of older adults residing within a CCRC, therefore a qualitative descriptive design was chosen for this study. Qualitative descriptive research supports the researcher remaining close to the words people use to describe their event or situation (Sandelowski, 2000). Focus groups will used to answer the question, what are the emotions and attitudes that prevent residents in a CCRC from accepting the guidance of professional staff in regards to transitioning to a higher level of care or receiving assistance in their home? Focus groups by design support hearing from a group of people with a specific focus or interest, specific characteristics, will provide data of a qualitative nature to support answering the question of interest (Krueger,1988). The participants will state what the attitudes and thoughts are when facing the possibility of accepting assistance in their apartment or transitioning to a higher level of care such as AL or NC, and what the barriers are through open ended questions. Sample The population of interest is older adults residing in a CCRC therefore purposive sampling will be used. Purposive sampling ensures that certain types of individuals or persons displaying certain attributes are included in the study (as cited by Shippee, 2009, pg 420) This study is interested in learning about the attitudes of residents who are living independently currently but are resisting transiting to a higher ... However countless spaces to this day do not function properly because every person who enters it cannot use it. Accessibility is often not considered in many interior space designs, which excludes people with difficulties of mobility, vision, hearing, or dexterity. This exclusion or added difficulty means the design has failed. As we have continued to learn about human factors with a focus on accessibility, I have now looked at how I should design much differently. I am not thinking how would I like it , I am now thinking how could everyone use this . Universal design is of utmost importance and as designers we have a duty to ensure everyone that ... The next design feature and ergonomic consideration for the Assisted Living Centre was an accessible two level reception desk. This design can and should be a feature that comes with all reception desks. Having a two level reception desk allows people to either be served standing, or served in a wheelchair. It also ensures children to be seen and helped. Having an obstacle free desk where a wheelchair can fit underneath so the person can seek the assistance they need is optimal universal design. There was also a lot of thought that went into the flooring choices for not only the common areas but the retirement suites. Dealing with seniors there is a higher concern for falls or slips. Choosing a floor that allowed a wheelchair or walker to pass over it as well provide traction and grip was a must. There also had to be considerations of the hardness of the floor to eliminate any chance of injury steering clear of unforgiving hardwoods was the decision that had to be made. The diversity of its people coupled with their ability to adapt and tolerate new ideas has created a fusion of traditional and modern. Filipinos pride themselves in their Sociability, religious belief, and Family oriented lifestyle. Social Aspects Filipino culture focuses heavily on social interaction and although many Filipinos are aware of western social norms and are tolerant of social miscues that would be rather damaging in other conservative cultures. Although there are many western aspects to Filipino social behaviors it is in many respects entirely different. For example teasing is a viable and acceptable form of social interaction and is used in many aspects to draw attention to a serious issue without shaming the involved parties. In addition, direct eye contact with a Filipino is discouraged as it implies aggression and malevolence. Employer relations with their employees is considered a very important topic. A nation or land is where people have established their life, their culture and their heart; sadly it has happened where people have been forced out of their homeland. Great opening sentences. Mary Louise Pratt, Kenji Yoshino and Edward Said all present very good methods of maintaining one s national identity in their essays. Superb connection! This part of the quote doesn t quite fit, I would start the quote here, and set it up by saying that Pratt uses the concept of safe houses as social and intellectual spaces where groups can constitute themselves as horizontal, homogeneous, sovereign communities with high degrees of trust, shared understandings, temporary protection from legacies of oppression . (Pratt) A safe house is somewhere you (avoid you)can go to feel safe, where you will be surrounded by people just like yourself. Another one of Pratt s Arts of the Contact Zone is also a key in maintaining your national identity is Transculturation. Transculturation is the combining of two cultures or traits from two different cultures. This can help in maintaining national identity by having the cultures meet half way, instead of conforming and letting your identity slip away from you. Here, pull an example of transculturation from Said s text. For instance, the use of the Mercedes. • 40. Asymmetrical Relationship Between Government And... In our reading of Illicit by Naim (2005), he suggests that the asymmetrical relationship between the government and transnational crime groups create a struggle for the government to respond to these transnational crimes at a decent rate (Naim,2005). On the other side our reading in McMafia: A Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld by Glenny (2009), suggest otherwise. Glenny (2009) suggests that of a relationship between transnational crime groups, the public, the government and this is a huge aspect to how the government responds to these factors. Both perspectives contain their strengths and weaknesses, however the dependency theory by Glenny has more valid points than that of the asymmetrical theory by Naim. The asymmetrical theory by Naim says that the differences between the government and that of transnational crime creates asymmetry (Naim,2005). Different government agencies are organized in a hierarchical relationship that functions consistently from the top to the bottom (Naim,2005). Governments must often follow legal processes that take up time and cost money. These governments are forced to follow budget constraints, as well as legal and political reservation (Naim,2005). These governments must operate within the control of their constitution. In comparison, these transnational crime groups operate in less harsh structures, and are able to have more flexibility in their decision making, as well as have unlimited funds available to them.
