Frodo Baggins As A Christ-Figure
J. R. R. Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings Frodo Baggins as a Christ Figure
J. R. R. Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings has delighted readers since its publication owing to its author
s skillful development of his fantastic realm and its inhabitants adventures therein. In fact, Tolkien is
rightly regarded as the father of the modern fantasy genre, and it often seems all fantasy imitates his
work in some way. However, as readers return to the work, it often becomes apparent that the work is
more than a simple escapist journey into an imaginary world; the work represents the finest traditions
in literature and rich grounding in Tolkien s study of language and mythology. Equally surprising,
though, Tolkien himself admits that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The similarities grow overt later when turning 33, Jesus age on the Cross, Frodo sets out upon a
journey which tests the limits of his endurance and the outcome of which spells the equivalent of
saving the world. The last leg of that journey emphasizes the hardships of the protagonist and his
young servant, Sam, as they struggle with practically no provisions across a barren wasteland carrying
a small golden ring, the magical power of which bears so heavily upon Frodo s mind as to drive him to
near insanity. The last stage of their journey to Orodruin came, and it was a torment greater than Sam
had ever thought he could bear. [4] Voluntarily accepting so great a task, certainly Frodo suffers on
behalf of a people (all good peoples, in fact) with no hope of gratitude or even of surviving the
venture. In fact, as Frodo and Sam stagger to their journey s end totally convinced that the completion
of their task will signal the end of their lives, they parallel Jesus who understood that the completion
of his ministry would end on the cross to the jeers of the very people to whom he gave everything. In
acting for the corporate good, Frodo even suffers death and new life, in symbolic terms at least. After
being attacked in the end of the second installment, Frodo is left for dead by Sam who fails to find a
pulse or any other physical signs of life. Only later does Sam learn that the illusion of death is merely
a symptom of the venomous attack of their foe.

Analysis Of The Article Grim Variations From Fairy Tales
In the article Grim Variations from Fairy Tales to Modern Anti Fairy Tales , the author Wolfgang
Mieder identifies that fairy tales has a quite significant value in people s life. The author argues that
fairy tales are not only just meant for children, but they are also meant for adults, even though fairy
tales may be refer to as children stories, according to scholars these tales are traditional narratives for
adults. Within these tales there are lessons on how people should behave and other aspect of life,
which only adults can understand. The fairy tales contain the hidden frustrations of adults and their
longing for a perfect world. Mieder present the readers with examples of why these tales are also for
adults and the hidden meaning they have within them. Mieder states fairy tales present the world in
black and white, but in the end of this conflict is resolved (Mieder 91) and the belief that there is
always good in humanity and the longing for a utopia plays a significant role for adults. The concept
of hope for fairness and equality allows these tales to last for centuries among children and adults.
Mieder then states many adults today do not accept the value of the benefits that these tales contain,
and are too focus by real life problems. The adults of today s society are realist and do not see the
good meaning behind these tales, deeming them to be far fetched, unlike the adults in the past who
create these stories as a form of escape from the cruel reality.

Colleen Atwood Research Paper
The costume designer I chose is Colleen Atwood. While she hasn t designed for the stage, Colleen
Atwood s career spans 53 films in the last three decades. Alongside that, she s been nominated for 11
Oscars, and out of those nominations, she s won 3. Considering the fact that, according to Caroline
Ryder (Citizens of Humanity), she set out to be a painter and an art teacher when she was a teenager,
that s quite a feat. Atwood attended Cornish College in Seattle, Washington to study painting. While
attending Cornish College, she gained experience in the fashion industry by working in an Yves Saint

Computer Networking is Revolutionizing Our Society
The Internet, a combination of technology, communication, and media, is a developing and unique
medium in its infancy. Technology and tools of communication are still in the process of development
as technology continues to advance. As a site of cultural, political, and ideological discussion, it has
unquestionably contributed to a culture and lifestyle dependent on technology. The World Wide Web
has reconfigured people s perception of the world, allowing access to an extensive amount of
information that previously has been inaccessible to them. In addition to enabling users to gain access
to a plethora of information, the Internet is a tool of globalization in which ideas, knowledge, and
thoughts are instantaneously shared on a worldwide scale. While some have portrayed the Internet as a
powerful tool for free expression on the global network, others have highlighted the potential of
networks with which the government can constrain the power of organizations through collective
online actions and surveillance. With increasing advancements in technology comes greater and easier
access to information and control. In a democratic nation, the Internet s ability to facilitate access to
information about another person violates privacy rights. With the Internet, existing laws are
ambiguous about what standards apply for different kinds of surveillance. Computer networking is
revolutionizing our society in an affirmative way. Technological advances like the Internet facilitates

Jubien s Definition Of The Universe
Jubien begins his argument by defining the universe as all of the physical aspects of space. With this
as his foundation it is not possible for the Big bang to be the origin of the universe. As discussed in
lecture, the common man denotes all this physical to being related to a first cause in an infinite chain
of causes. This ideal is based on the thoughts that there was nothing before he Big Bang, and that the
event itself started everything we can receive through our senses. According to Jubien s definition of
the universe as containing all physical and material things, any physical cause could not be the origin
of the universe because it would cause two new questions to arise. What was that event s cause? If it is
even plausible, how can a physical event take place outside of the universe? Jubien would say that the
origin of the universe can be answered with a simple I don t know, because there is only so far back
causes can observably go before there is a lack of information available. Any physical cause of the
universe can be traced to another cause, and therefore cannot be the origin of the universe.

Theme Of Women In Heart Of Darkness
In Conrad s 1899 novel Heart of Darkness, women are noticeably absent from the narrative. Almost
every time they are introduced, they seem to be missing three dimensionality, rather serving as
symbols for the men in the novel. Undoubtedly, the women are overwhelmingly undervalued, and
placed in a separate sphere completely. The cult of domesticity was commonly used in the 19th
century to illustrate the tendency to see women in private life, while men dominated public life. In an
institution as large as colonization, women are overwhelmingly missing from the narrative. However,
on closer inspection it becomes clear that the connection between the women in the novel, even
without any interaction, is strong enough to form a type of story within a story, focusing on women
and their influence. Even though the female characters in the novel are often dismissed, women are
actually the masters of the fates of Marlow and Kurtz in the novel, and ultimately in the structure of
colonization as a whole. Marlow almost immediately dismisses women by characterizing an
interaction with his aunt by saying that women as a whole are out of touch with truth and that they live
in a world of their own (Conrad 13). Even though Marlow s aunt got him a job at the company and is
the only reason he journeyed to Congo in the first place, he looks down upon her, perhaps out of his
own insecurity. Even though he questions the sense of women, his story is anything but reliable, being
described as a

Essay On Advantages And Disadvantages Of Plastic Surgery

Essay about The Google File System
This paper proposes the Google File System (GFS). They introduced GFS to handle Google s massive
data processing needs. GFS considers the following goals: higher performance, scalability, reliability
and availability. However, it s not easy to reach these goals, there are many obstacles. Thus, in order to
tackle challenges, they have considered using constant monitoring, error detection, fault tolerance, and
automatic recover to tackle component failures that can affect the system s reliability and availability.
The need to handle bigger files is becoming very important because data is keep growing radically.
Therefore, they considered changing I/O operation and block sizes. They also consider using

There is no file data caching because most applications now process large files which are simply too
big to be cached. Their architecture is based on a single master to simplify the design. The system
makes three copies of the data by default for recovery. They specify the chunk size to be 64 MB which
is very large comparing to chunk size in other files systems because it first reduces the interaction
between clients and master, reduces the network overhead if it uses persistence TCP connections, and
decreases the size of metadata stored in the master however it could bring overhead if the data size is
small when many clients are accessing the same file, but GFS is designed to majorly address large
files. There are three types of metadata that are kept in the master. They are the file and chunk
namespace, mappings from files to chunks, and the locations of each chunk s replicas. The first two
types are stored in the operational log which is stored in the master s memory. However it doesn t
store the third type persistently, it asks each chunk for its location when the master is being started.
GFS uses a consistency model. The files are consistent if all clients see the same data regardless of
which copy they are reading from. The content of metadata is mutated. In their data flow, they
separate between the flow of control and flow of data. The data is passed linearly to utilize the
network bandwidth. The data is forwarded to the closest machine to

Cultural Tattoos Essay
Tattoos and Their Cultural Relevance
For as long as there have been people, there have been methods of distinction amongst them.
Throughout the years we have discovered ways in which to express our beliefs, our ideals, and our
passions. Tattooing has been one of forefront methods in expressing our humanity, or in certain cases,
our lack there of. For so many, they have taken on many different representations, each with an equal
level of significance. The importance found in the symbolism of tattoos and their cultural relevance
has consistently been a trend found throughout history, religion, and art.

The defiant Japanese commoners covered themselves lavishly from their necks to their elbows, and
above the knees. The Japanese government looked upon this disturbance of the poor as subversive,
and outlawed tattoos in 1870. This is when the symbolism of tattoos in Japanese culture shifted. They
had gone from a representation of splendor, to one associated with Japanese crime. As a result,
tattooists were forced to retreat into the background of Japanese society. Luckily for them, the
Japanese gangster class in Japan known as the Ikuza, embraced this subculture with open arms. The
elaborately designed tattoos of the Ikuza depicted above, represented character traits the wearer
desired to emulate. A lion represented courage, while a carp was worn to emulate strength and
perseverance. Because the designs required long periods of pain, the act itself was looked upon as a
show of allegiance to the wearer s personal beliefs. Tattooing was also popular amongst Maori men of
New Zealand, who covered their buttocks, thighs, and faces. Maori men had their faces tattooed by a
moko artist, a technique that is unique to the Maori. The pattern was slowly carved into the skin with a
chisel, much in the same way a design might be carved into a plank wood. Ink was then be placed in
the fresh wounds to create the tattoo. The process, which was extremely painful, was typically done in

Moon Landing Conspiracy Research Paper
Moon Landing Conspiracy Theories
Many people think that the moon landing was faked. Lots of people think it was just done in some
studio in Hollywood. But why do people think its fake? People think it is faked because of some of the
pictures the astronauts took up on the moon.
Many human beings think the moon landing was faked because of the pictures. In the background
there are no stars in any of the pictures. Even some pictures there is a crater in the back that looks
exactly the same but the stuff is just moved. Some pictures in the middle you can even see a line
which looks like the bottom of a backdrop.
There are even more pictures that looked faked like under the ship there was no landing crater. And it
looks like there are studio light glares in some pictures. witnesses also say that the spaceship that they
launched didn t even go to space, people say it only had fuel to reach the ocean somewhere, where

Monster Clytemnestra In Aeschylus Oresteia
The Monster Clytemnestra in Aeschylus Oresteia
In the three part play Oresteia, Clytemnestra is a character that manipulates, lies, cheats, and murders.
From the very first moment we hear of her existence, we know she is unlike the women of her time.
Oh she s a woman all right, a woman with a man s heart. (11) the watchman in the first scene of
Agamemnon tells the audience. This tells us that she does not act in a way that the watchman
associates with the women around him. Already, in the first few lines of the first installment of the
play, we know that Clytemnestra is different. Throughout the play, Clytemnestra tries as hard as she
can to keep herself on top, stopping at nothing to get what she wants. She wants to rule the city and
she wants to have power over the people in her life. She is power hungry, manipulative, and
determined. This determination is not a good thing for the people around Clytemnestra. Because of her
need for power, she ends up turning on almost everyone she is supposed to love. This is what leads to
her eventual death. Clytemnestra is a dynamic character, who does everything she can to be on top

Essay on Influences on T.S. Eliot s Poetry
T.S. full name is Thomas Stearns Eliot. He had written a total of 68 poems, dramas, etc. in total
(Wikipedia). There are many influences, but I think that Vivienne Haigh Wood, Eliot`s first wife, Ezra
Pound, his mentor and religion are one of the biggest influences on T.S. Eliot. I think the first
influence on his poetry was his first wife Vivienne Haigh Wood. Eliot had married Vivienne to stay in
England. Their relationship became the storyboard for a play called, Tom and Viv which was made in
1984 which then was adapted to a film in 1994. Vivienne was a great inspiration to Eliot. When
Vivienne had an affair with Bertrand Russell, Eliot used this happening in one of the parts in his poem

At this time, T.S. Eliot had just gotten out of college and was undecided in his work. His question was
to either become a professor, or to keep writing poems. When T.S. Eliot was in London, Ezra Pound
noticed his poetic gift and assisted in the publication of his work in many different magazines. Ezra
Pound describes his poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock as the best poem I have yet had or
seen from an American . Ezra Pound then takes Eliot in as his student. In 1915, he published his first
poetic masterpiece called The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock which was written four years before he
published this piece. A few years later, Eliot worked at Lloyd`s Bank, but is ordered to take a three
month vacation. During this vacation, on the way to Switzerland, Eliot visits Ezra in Paris with his just
written poem. At first, it was titled He Do the Police in Different Voices but as Ezra edits Eliot s work,
he changes the title to The Waste Land. Ezra not only changed the title of his poem, but deleted entire
parts from the draft and told Eliot to put things together. The final production did not only reflect Eliot
s vision, but also Ezra s vision. Eliot then dedicates some poems to Ezra and appreciates that Pound
has edited so much of Eliot s poem. Eliot describes this work as, Pound has done so much to turn The
Waste Land from a jumble of good and bad passages into a poem. and that Ezra Pound had shaped up

seasons in our lives and each has its purpose... There are times of light and warmth... there are times of

about both positive and negative changes that everyone must endure; whether or not these changes are

Just as leaves fall off of trees, characters take may experience times in their lives when their health or
relationships fall or slowly decay, which according to Foster s How to Read Literature Like a
Professor, is essentially what fall and winter symbolize decay and death respectively. For instance, in
Nicholas Sparks A Walk to Remember, the life of protagonist Jamie Sullivan, as narrated by antagonist
Landon Carter, comes to an end during the fall and winter seasons. Landon narrates an important
dialogue between Jamie when he says, You can t be in love with me, Landon, she [Jamie] said through
red and swollen eyes. ... Why not? I [Landon] shouted... Because, she finally said softly,... I m dying,
Landon (Sparks 1999). Landon is careful to mention that it is a grayish... cold winter day (Sparks
1999) before he retells the event of Jamie announcing her upcoming death. Jamie s preconceived,
ongoing death relates to idea that fall represents decline, whereas her actual death is symbolized by
winter. Because of her passing, Jamie and Landon s romance comes to an unfortunate conclusion,
again showcasing how the autumn season metaphorically symbolizes decline. Relating to Fitzgerald s
work, Nick narrates Gatsby s death by commenting, Gatsby shouldered the mattress and started for the
pool... and in a moment disappeared among the yellowing trees....

The Film Analysis Of Dunkirk By Christopher Nolan
The movie Dunkirk by Christopher Nolan captures the action and intensity of a war zone in a sandy
beach in northern France. The criteria for any movie to exceed expectations would be to have a strong
story arc, character development, music, suspense, special effects, authenticity to history, and realistic
setting. Dunkirk meets all the criteria for a movie that s why it passed the $500 million mark this past
weekend. For a historical movie, Dunkirk, exceeds the criteria for a successful movie because of it s
focus on character development, being historically accurate, and being suspenseful. Dunkirk is

The fighter pilots risk their lives throughout the movie to protect their fellow soldiers before running
out of fuel. The three citizens risking their lives step up because they feel like it s their duty. They
grow as people because they have no fear going into war infested waters. Dunkirk is a true story that
also has minimal exaggerated parts. John Broich from Slate said In terms of accuracy, it rates pretty
highly. There are no big, glaring historical whoppers . The portrayal of the soldiers was accurate.
During war soldiers had to deal with artillery fire, air assaults, and pure trauma and during the movie
it was represented correctly. Nolan s idea for this movie was to represent the terrors of war and
experiences soldiers had to deal with. Not everything was portrayed accurately but this is a movie and
the audience needs to be entertained somehow. Although Tommy and Alex are character brought to
life, soldiers would try anything possible to get on ships. Unfortunately, many shivered to death
because of the fear of being trapped in a shipping ship. Points were exaggerated to serve a purpose
however, the audience member can realistically create an image in their head about war and what it
takes to survive and serve your country. For a movie that reaches two hours in length the audience
member should be at the edge of their seat. It always crosses the back of the audiences members mind

Frankenstein and the Environment
The environment has a lot to say in Marry Shelly s Frankenstein. It seems to reflect somewhat what is
going on emotionally with Victor in the story. Victor finds solace in solitude with nature, and appears
to use it as a coping mechanism to escape from the horrors of his life. Nature also ties into how the
monster Victor has created feels, but in a much different way than it does for him. Victor becomes ill
sometime during the story after he leaves home and goes off to study at college. It is assumed by his
father that he will feel better after being with his family and Elizabeth, the woman who he will later
marry. But really all Victor wants is to take a breath of fresh air alone, showing how he truly feels
about solitude and the environment. It makes the reader wonder what he really cares about, and if he
even misses his family. We passed a fortnight in these perambulations: my health and spirits had long
been restored, and they gained additional strength from the salubrious air I breathed, the natural
incidents of our progress . . . Throughout everything that happens to Victor in the book. Including the
death of his mother, brother, Elizabeth, and his father. All that seems to calm him is his return to
nature. I discovered more distinctly the black sides of Jura, and the bright summit of Mount Blanc; I

Sunday Morning By Wallace Stevens
Wallace Stevens a well known American poet once said, In poetry, you must love the words, the ideas
and the images and rhythms with all your capacity to love anything at all. In these lines, Stevens
beautifully reveals that poetry is all about enjoying each line and each and every part of the poem as it
would give you satisfaction and love for poetry as never before. Similarly, Stevens wrote a
magnificent piece of work Sunday Morning , with various pieces of literary devices to enhance his
poetry making it descriptive and enjoyable to read. For example, the use of techniques such as
symbolism, theme, imagery, and tone Sunday Morning displays the clash that the speaker endures as
she questions the Christian religion and her discovery of love for nature. It is evident throughout the
poem that the woman has difficulty finding happiness in religion and enjoys nature, finding it to be
inspiring unlike religion that can be destructive and disappointing. The poem starts out with strong

Throughout, the poem, it is evident that Stevens use of literary devices such as tone, imagery,
symbolism, and theme, allows the poem to be engaging to read and to get the message across all levels
of readers. Throughout, the poem the speaker which is the woman questions religion and the rewards
that result from Christianity and wonders how life would be if revolved around nature instead of
religion. The poems message that nature must be adored because it is not permanent and everything
that is temporary is worth living allowed readers like me to really wonder if every religion is the same
or not. This poem has created a new perception of how to see nature and religion and how we should
avoid exhausting ourselves under fixed religion and should focus more on finding bliss on earth where

International Monetary Fund ( Imf ) And World Bank
International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank are both international financial institutes that
where formed in July 1944 by the United Nation in Bretton Woods, United States. They are sometimes
referred to as The Bretton Woods Institutes. They are both landers of last resort and they both offer
loans and help countries design policy programs to solve balance of payments problems when
sufficient finance cannot be obtained by the country. IMF offers short and medium term loans whilst
World Bank offers long term loans.
The World Bank, as an institute that offers loans and help countries design policy that will improve
human wellbeing, offered to help Zimbabwe improve its economy and balance of payments in 1992.
The program was referred to as Economic Structural Adjustment Program (ESAP) and it was a policy
designed by the World Bank itself. After independence, the government of Zimbabwe invested heavily
on education and health sectors through parastatals, in rural areas development and the productive
sectors. This led to an increased public sector which made up of forty five percent of the gross
domestic product (GDP). The government of Zimbabwe accepted the policy and the World Bank
issued US$125 million as Structural Adjustment Loan and another US$50 million as Structural
Adjustment credit. The program was suppose to run for five years and the goals where to reduce
government spending s, promote high growth and to reduce poverty and unemployment. This was

Kangaroo Care Analysis
The neonatal intensive care unit, or NICU, can often be the first home of a premature baby. For this
baby, there are more developmental marks that become much harder to achieve, compared to a full
term infant. In the neonatal intensive care unit, babies often are placed on or in machines to help them
finish developing what would normally be developed in the womb. Due to these circumstances, what
are some of the affects on the development of a preterm infant when they stay in the neonatal intensive
care unit? How does being in the neonatal intensive care unit affect bonding between mother and

Kangaroo care as described by Dr. Susan Ludington, is more than just skin to skin contact. Kangaroo
care is having the infant s chest directly touching the mother s chest (Ludington, 2014). Kangaroo care
provides the opportunity for the baby to bond with whomever is providing the kangaroo care, mother
or father usually (Ludington, 2014). When the mother is using kangaroo care with the infant, the
infant is more likely to start breastfeeding, which is important shortly after birth so that the infant gets
the first dose of breast milk which contains colostrum, which is thought to be the babies first
immunization (Ludington, 2014). According to Kathleen Kuhn and Megan Kuhn, when using
kangaroo care with a premature infant, nurses will help decide when the best time to hold the baby is.
Some benefits of kangaroo care for the mother include a higher production of milk, the mother feeling
closer to the baby, help with coping due to the baby blues , learning to respond to the baby s needs,
increased confidence for the mother, and the initiation of breastfeeding (Kuhn Kuhn, 2011). Benefits
for the baby include sleeping better, crying less, regulation of body temperature, the ability to move to
an open crib sooner, better breathing, weight gain, preparation for breastfeeding, and more connection
with the mother (Kuhn Kuhn,

Kodak? What would happen if these companies had not kept their customer data in databases? The
Forbes business model relies heavily on advertising to supplement revenue from paid subscriptions, so
it is constantly looking for ways to help its advertisers reach Forbes readers more effectively. Anything
it can do to understand its customers better can be passed along to its advertisers. Kodak can use its

Essay on Genocide in Rwanda
Genocide in Rwanda
Raphael Lemkin coined the term genocide in 1944. According to Lemkin, genocide signifies the
destruction of a nation or of an ethnic group and implies the existence of a coordinated plan, aimed at
total extermination, to be put into effect against individuals chosen as victims purely, simply, and
exclusively because they are members of the target group. This coordinated plan is committed with the
intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. According to the
United Nations definition of genocide in their 1948 declaration of the Convention on the Prevention
and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, genocide is a crime under international law and classified

For instance, genocide has the tendency to occur in rural societies that are communal, divided, and in
the mode of inequality and problematic issues. It also has the tendency to occur when the government
says that it is okay to resolve those problematic issues using violence. An example in which there was
a combination of racism, power struggles, and violence that all led to genocide is in the specific case
of Rwanda between the Hutu and Tutsi populations. Before colonial rule, the Tutsi were herdsmen and
came from the Nile Valley. They brought concepts of power, monarchy, and kingship to Rwanda. The
Tutsi took grazing lands from the Hutu, who were farmers, and lived among them. Gourevitch states
that this was the original inequality: cattle were a more valuable asset than produce #8230;and the
word Tutsi became synonymous with a political and economic elite (p. 48). The Tutsi, who were the
powers of Rwanda, also became the protectors of the Hutu because they were armed with weapons
and spears. Rwanda was certainly an unequal society, but the ethnic boundary was permeable.
Overtime, some Tutsi married Hutu. Also, Hutu farmers could, and did, become wealthy Tutsi and
acquired cattle as chiefs were incorporated into the ruling elite. Much authority was given to Hutu
chiefs and certain obligations were imposed on Tutsi administrators as well.
Colonial rule, however, transformed this

Diplomacy As A Communication Process Of International...
In the field of International relations, one of the most important instruments is referred to as
Diplomacy. Diplomacy according to various scholars is extremely important in the process of
implementing a country s foreign policy and its various objectives in the international community.
Some scholars describe diplomacy as a communication process between international actors that seek
through negotiation to resolve certain issues and also to push their foreign policy objectives. Research
states that the act of conducting negotiations between two people or two nations at a large scope is
essential to the upkeep of international affairs. Without diplomacy, some scholars state that much of
the world s affairs would be abolished. Institutions like international organizations would not be
possible, and above all the world would be at a constant state of war. Scholars of international
relations state that it is due to diplomacy that the majority of states exist in harmony. Diplomacy is
split into two types of diplomacy, which are referred to as Traditional Diplomacy and New Diplomacy.
Traditional Diplomacy refers to the diplomatic process only being conducted by Monarchs (kings and
queens) and was seen as a process of pushing their own individual gains and was normally conducted
in secret. New Diplomacy called for the diplomatic process to be more open, it involved government
and non government actors, unlike in traditional diplomacy which only involved government actors

This research paper focuses on the Rio Grande Valley, and immigration. The purpose of this research
paper is to demonstrate that immigration to the Rio Grande valley has had a negative impact. Effects
immigration has on the Valley s economy, employment, and education are discussed. The concepts of
informal and underground economy by Richardson, C. and Pisani, M. are covered to demonstrate the
unique economy the Rio Grande has. Poverty rates at a national and local level are compared. Studies
by Richardson, C. and Pagan, J. are used for their statistical information regarding unemployment in
the Rio Grande Valley from the years 2000 until today. Counterarguments regarding positive effects in
the Rio Grande are considered. Conclusion reached is that immigration in the Rio Grande Valley does
have a negative effect, although it is needed, to a certain point in employment and economy; however
a positive impact has been experienced in education.

Mesopotamia Legacies
Ancient Mesopotamia
The region of Mesopotamia has left behind a huge legacy that still has an effect on our daily life. This
region was the first region for humanity to move from a semi nomadic lifestyle to a more urbanized
civilization. This region is also referred to as the Fertile Crescent. The three big civilizations that this
region held are the Sumerians, Babylonians, and Assyrians. These three large civilizations are the
founders of these legacies. Some of these legacies are huge advancements in writing, mathematics,
and advancement in technologies. Even too modern daily we still see some form of these legacies. The

math off of 60, which is why there are only sixty numbers (Shuttleworth 2010). These used this math
for everything even astronomy and mathematic functions. This math allowed them to keep track of
larger amounts of things easier and even keep track of records for things like accounting. Even though
they did not have any numbers over sixty doesn t mean they couldn t track more. They showed
anything of sixty as sixty plus whatever else is left over. This base of sixty is not used for everything
that we do in our daily life. We still use the base of sixty for time mainly. We still have sixty seconds
in a minute and sixty minutes in an hour. Later throughout Mesopotamia the Babylonians eventually
started to base their numbers off of ten and they had symbols for single, tens, and hundreds. Even
though this was their main gift to us in our modern world these still have some more advancements in
mathematics. This math allowed them to use decimals and fractions. They were able to make a twelve
month calendar with this math. The Babylonians believed that there was 360 days in a year, which

Diderot s Critique On Art And Public Of The Eighteenth...
Diderot s critique stands out among other artistic critiques of the eighteenth century in the way he
manages to engage not only what is on the canvas, but also in the way he is able to instill each
composition s elements with significance in a greater context. Diderot s critic of Hubert Robert s
work, among others, in The Salon of 1767 serves as a lesson for both artists and observers. His writing
engages both groups through exploration of the role antiquity, imagination, and temporality play in the
creation and viewership of art. In doing so, Diderot defines what made the art and public of the
eighteenth century unique.
The new archaeological discoveries of the eighteenth century reinvigorated public interest in antiquity,
and Diderot was no exception to this trend. Diderot observes, One rarely becomes a great writer, a
great man of letters, or a man of remarkable taste without having made a close study of the ancients.
Both the observer and artist must pay close attention to lessons from antiquity to properly understand
concepts of beauty and the ideal. However, this is does not mean Diderot condones artists imitation of
ancient art. To Diderot, copying the ancients will never bring contemporary artists to the level of
beauty of antiquity . Instead, artists and viewers should use the ancient mode to engage the
contemporary .
Painters of ruins should be sure to paint ruins with accuracy, so that the viewer cannot mistake the

Diagnostic Coding And Procedural Coding
Medical Coding Essay Academic Essay Diagnostic coding and procedural coding lend themselves
well to the improvement of healthcare efficiency. Both have accurate recording for diagnoses and the
procedures enable the analysis of information for the patient s care, research, performance
improvement, healthcare planning and facility management. The diagnosis codes are divided into
chapters, sections, subsections, and subcategories (1). A coder should become familiar with all of the
codes before the individual moves on. It is very important to understand when an additional code or
codes are needed, what codes are secondary, and when additional information may be needed to
complete the code (1). Also, the coder should always code the reason why the patient sought medical
advice as the main diagnosis (1). There are many rules when using diagnostic and procedural codes.
By using the national diagnostic and procedural coding system correctly the coder will have no trouble
on finding the right codes to use for the case scenarios.
The information the coder needs to get from the health records is very important because this will
provide the correct information on the claim when it is billed out. If the steps are not followed

Analysis Of The Legendary Legend
Really it depends on belief and religion. For example, if you re a Christian, then the belief is that the
prickly leaves represent the crown of thorns Jesus wore when he was crucified. The berries represent
the blood that he shed, because of the crown of thorns. I know that s the right one but since I like to
make up my own stuff that s not how it goes in this story. Once there was a girl and a boy. The boy s

best friends. One day Chucky and Carrie were out in the woods. The woods of The Legendary
Legend. There was an old legend about these woods. A boy and girl, Chucky and Carrie were best

ghost. Chucky and Carrie didn t believe it though. They wanted some proof. That s why they went
there everyday after school, for some proof. There was something that Chucky was always hiding

The Purpose of Theatre during the 20th Century
The Purpose of Theatre during the 20th Century Throughout centuries, theatre has been an enormous
impact throughout society. During the 18th century, theatre had played a significant role to society
because it emphasized Rationalism (The Age of Reason), which began to lead away from the
limitations of Neoclassicism. Then in the 19th century, theatre was important because it introduced
Melodrama or music drama to increasingly emphasize the emotions and personalities of the
characters. And finally the 20th century, in which where it had transformed the whole ideology of
what theatre was truly represented. One purpose of theatre during the 20th century was to emphasize
realism. Realism had initially begun as an experiment to make theatre more impactful to society. It
was a reaction against the 19th century s ideology of theatre, melodrama. It had soon become a well
known innovation in mainstream theatre. Due to its common ideology, it had also caused adventurous
innovations to aspire as well. The reason for emphasizing realism was for realistic artists to create an
illusion of everyday life onstage.
A similar movement to realism that changed the ideology of theatre was naturalism; a movement that
had originally began in France in the 19th century and spread throughout Europe in the 20th century.
Naturalists rebut that the presentation should be represented as a slice of life . Many of the naturalists

In Woman Work, I feel the atmosphere is very sad. She is very tired, and needs to rest, which shows
she is unhappy. In the first verse, she repeatedly uses the word I . This emphasises that no one helps
her with her chores, and she is responsible for everything. The woman in Woman work is not well off.
We know this as she says Star shine, Moon glow, you re all that I can call my own. This implies that
she does not own materialistic possessions. It could also imply that she does not even own her own

Ozymandias Poem Analysis
Ozymandias is a poem written from the perspective of a man who has been told about a statue in the
desert the statue is of famous powerful pharaoh Ozymandia, but it is now crumbling and destroyed.
The poem explores how power can be arrogant and cruel, but ultimately can t last forever. The poem
however is not aztualy about ozymandais, ozymandais is just a metaphor for all kings paricullarly
George 3rd as he was in power at the time the poem was written. John agards poem, checking out e
history is written from th prespective of a boy who is taught about British history in school but not
about his own countries history. The theme of power is presented as the poem critiscizes those in
power and effectively mocks the history he has been taught aboyt in school. The poem is also about
how knowing your history is key t knowing your identity and knowing your identity empowers you.
Ozymandias power is presented as being evil and cruel . The description of his statue s facial
expression sneer of cold command suggests arrogance and shows that the slaves who built the statues
purposely portrayed this look on his face to mock ozymandias. Also the writing which appears on the
statue s pedestal: king of kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair! shows how big his ego is.
The phrase king of kings is used in the bible to describe jesus. So ozymandais effectively thinks of
himself as god like . Shelley continues to portray this as he uses juxtaposition when writing the
description of the statue as it is now a colossal wreck , which is in decay and shatter d . He emphasizes
how the art work has outlived and utpowered O zymandais . Through the Poem shelley ontinues to
show the poem of man weak .This contrasts with the images of art and nature, which he portrays as
being superior and long lasting through his description of the artists skills which yet survive, stamp d

stole the stage in trying to transform the government that would benefit society. Gladstone and
Disraeli both explored the conservative and liberal parties, but in the end they remained with the party
and beliefs that suited them the most. Although they both faced many challenges with the economy,
they overcame a majority of them through reforms and building a strong political structure. All over
Europe transformations were taking place from changing political alignments to structuring the perfect
government, which allowed for several domestic reforms to occur. Some of the ... Show more content

He began as a liberal, but Disraeli became quickly mainly motivated by the power to win over the new
group of the conservative party. Originally, Robert Peel created the conservative party, but when it
failed, Disraeli took over becoming the leader. His main reform was the Reform Act of 1867, which
became a major step toward the rebuilding of the system in Britain. This reform decreased the
monetary requirements for voting, but it was still based on land qualifications, and increased the
amount of individuals voting from one million to two million people.
Disraeli believed this reform would appeal to the working classes and eventually benefit the
conservative party. He was highly motivated by winning, but he was extremely flexible in handling
parliamentary reform and structuring a strong political system that worked. Disraeli s political party
was successful, but he did not instill a lot of reform into society to help society out tremendously.
Many of his beliefs are still permanent beliefs in the conservative party today, such as supporting the
working class, and support for the

While Random House, Byatt s American publisher, requested her to reduce some of the poetry and

trivial, effective change in her depiction of Roland, who in the American version obtains a smile of

Possession is the only of her novels that she wrote without any break while writing it. Continuing in

all art . These and other comments, nevertheless, Byatt offers about her work should be stood by
means of the common proverb grain of salt there is without a doubt a decent deal of art in Possession,

Why I Want to Pursue a Degree in Ece
Essay One: Why I Want To Pursue a Degree In ECE Angelina D. Lewis MOC @ Wilmington EDU
305 Early Childhood Education June 7, 2011 2 Ever since I was a little girl, I ve known what I wanted
to do. I am one of those people who was blessed enough to realize my passion at an early age. As far
back as I can remember, I ve wanted to become a teacher. I can remember as a child sitting in my
room, surrounded by my stuffed animals (or students, as I saw them) and forcing my younger brother
to sit still and quietly do the work I assigned him. I even had two baskets which I kept on my little
wooden desk; one for my students to turn in work, and the other for more work which needed to be
graded. I spent many afternoons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So I continued on this course, and after high school got a part time job working with CIS
(Communities In Schools) in Brunswick County. I worked there part time as an after school teacher.
The program was designed to help at risk kids stay on track by connecting with resources from the
community and extra academic guidance to help them learn. I loved this job and the children so much,
so during the day I was attending the community college to try and start pursuing my goal. In early
2006 I was knocked off track. My little brother was killed in a car accident at the age of 17. My world
went pretty dark for a while, and I dropped out of college and left my jobs. After a few months of deep
grieving, I got on my feet and got a job making more money as a receptionist for a window company.
I pushed my passion to the back of my brain and put the money first. I was all determined to have a
grown up job and be on my own. This meant I couldn t afford classes, or books. I also had to have a
full time day job to afford my rent. Teaching went to the back burner for several years. I was offered
higher positions at my job, and pretty soon found myself sitting in the office behind the desk from
which I myself was hired. I hated it. I could sit on the computer all day long and do nothing. Most
people would ve loved my job. But I could not handle

Differences Between Newark And Washington s 7th...
Throughout all levels of American politics incumbents running for reelection have a huge and
systematic advantage over their challengers. In this paper, the incumbency advantage will be
examined through the lens of James Jim McDermott s continual reelection in Washington s 7th
Congressional District and Sharpe James, the longtime mayor of Newark. James incumbency
advantage is especially interesting in the context of 2002 mayoral campaign, where he was nearly
unseated by Cory Booker. Both McDermott and James served their constituents for over 30 years and
developed sizable incumbency advantages, though in some cases they were used in different ways.
Looking at the differences demographically between Newark and Washington s 7th Congressional
District can be striking, but if instead the incumbency advantage is considered, the similarities are
wide reaching and fascinating. In this paper, six major elements of incumbency advantage will be
looked at: name recognition, party advantage, redistricting, constituency service, focus on candidates
and special incumbent privileges.
Before comparing the incumbency advantage, the differences between Newark and Washington s 7th
congressional district have to be examined. While the incumbency advantage is very similar in each
region, the physical and demographical difference couldn t be starker. First, and most obviously,
Sharpe James was running for mayoral position of Newark but Jim McDermott was running for the

The Chimera of Ethnic Humour
Humour has always had the ability as long as anyone can remember to bring people together and unify
them to become closer and better acquainted. As humour developed over time different categories of
humour appeared. Ethnic humour is one of the categories that was created decades ago and continues
to be widely used in present day comedy. The concept of ethnic, racial, and gender humour is as
sensitive a subject today as it has ever been; and yet there has never been such a prolific quantity of
this humour as there is in current day society. It manifests in American culture s films and stand up
comedy routines, as well as on popular TV sitcoms. Ethnic humour is one of the only types of humour
that can bring laughter and joy to people while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience for this annihilated single system with N incongruity (Davis 28). The joke sets up a
system of the debate on abortion throughout the world. The unexpected and an incongruity then occur
with unnatural responses and the system is broken and this is what triggers the laughter. The style and
way the joke is set up can closely be compared to many other categories of jokes. But what sets ethnic
jokes apart is how the system it creates makes a person think of an ethnic group, then commonly has a
play on that ethnic cultures common stereo types which are often very biased and racist. Furthermore,
another way that this joke can be analyzed and viewed is through Lois Leveen s perspective. Leveen
points out, That if the teller and the audience of the joke are non Jewish the joke has a sense of
prejudice and is hyper critical. However, if the teller and audience of the joke were Jewish, the joke
would then be comprehended in a different light. The Jewish would take the joke from someone
within their group and enjoy it because of a sense of pride, connecting Jewish life to elevated
expectancy they would be happy to be known for (Qtd. In Rapport. The Sword 1). This analysis that
Leveen gives sheds light on how it is feasible for ethnic jokes to have many different meanings;
depending on the content, teller and audience of the joke. Thus creating humour from one

Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Kimberly Lewis NUR 408 May 7, 2012
Theresa White, MSN Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Preparing for an
emergency and knowing what to do in case of an emergency is an important aspect every community
should know. Preparedness can be the difference between life and death in certain situations. This is
the case in Season two Episode five of this week s assignment. A forest fire is raging out of control
near the Neighborhood for five days. Resident s are developing respiratory and problems related to the
fire s proximity to the city. As with any disaster, communities need to have a plan of action and be
ready to put the plan in action for the safety of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nurse Karen advises patients with respiratory diseases to stay indoors to avoid any respiratory irritants
the fire is causing. Many of the public health care teams in Neighborhood were playing catch up after
the fire had been raging for days. The hospital in Neighborhood failed to call a code yellow. Initiating
a code yellow would have alerted the emergency response team to action to help accommodate the
influx of patients the health care facilities were facing. Because of the failure to call the code yellow,
the staff is overworked and is causing added stress on the hospital staff on the floor, the emergency
room, and throughout the hospital. If a state of emergency were called, more staff as well as room for
patients would have been made available, thus decreasing stress the staff is feeling. Because the forest
fire was raging out of control close to the city, the science fair should have either been canceled or
rescheduled until the fire was put out and the threat gone. Public service announcements should have
been broadcast alerting residents of the fire and the health hazards they could face. Residents should
have been warned to stay indoors and to only go outside if necessary. Luckily, most residents stayed
indoors, or else there would have been an even larger number of patients in the emergency room.
Public Health Agencies Forest fires not only cause medical conditions to exacerbate but also can

  • 2. Frodo Baggins As A Christ-Figure J. R. R. Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings Frodo Baggins as a Christ Figure J. R. R. Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings has delighted readers since its publication owing to its author s skillful development of his fantastic realm and its inhabitants adventures therein. In fact, Tolkien is rightly regarded as the father of the modern fantasy genre, and it often seems all fantasy imitates his work in some way. However, as readers return to the work, it often becomes apparent that the work is more than a simple escapist journey into an imaginary world; the work represents the finest traditions in literature and rich grounding in Tolkien s study of language and mythology. Equally surprising, though, Tolkien himself admits that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The similarities grow overt later when turning 33, Jesus age on the Cross, Frodo sets out upon a journey which tests the limits of his endurance and the outcome of which spells the equivalent of saving the world. The last leg of that journey emphasizes the hardships of the protagonist and his young servant, Sam, as they struggle with practically no provisions across a barren wasteland carrying a small golden ring, the magical power of which bears so heavily upon Frodo s mind as to drive him to near insanity. The last stage of their journey to Orodruin came, and it was a torment greater than Sam had ever thought he could bear. [4] Voluntarily accepting so great a task, certainly Frodo suffers on behalf of a people (all good peoples, in fact) with no hope of gratitude or even of surviving the venture. In fact, as Frodo and Sam stagger to their journey s end totally convinced that the completion of their task will signal the end of their lives, they parallel Jesus who understood that the completion of his ministry would end on the cross to the jeers of the very people to whom he gave everything. In acting for the corporate good, Frodo even suffers death and new life, in symbolic terms at least. After being attacked in the end of the second installment, Frodo is left for dead by Sam who fails to find a pulse or any other physical signs of life. Only later does Sam learn that the illusion of death is merely a symptom of the venomous attack of their foe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Article Grim Variations From Fairy Tales In the article Grim Variations from Fairy Tales to Modern Anti Fairy Tales , the author Wolfgang Mieder identifies that fairy tales has a quite significant value in people s life. The author argues that fairy tales are not only just meant for children, but they are also meant for adults, even though fairy tales may be refer to as children stories, according to scholars these tales are traditional narratives for adults. Within these tales there are lessons on how people should behave and other aspect of life, which only adults can understand. The fairy tales contain the hidden frustrations of adults and their longing for a perfect world. Mieder present the readers with examples of why these tales are also for adults and the hidden meaning they have within them. Mieder states fairy tales present the world in black and white, but in the end of this conflict is resolved (Mieder 91) and the belief that there is always good in humanity and the longing for a utopia plays a significant role for adults. The concept of hope for fairness and equality allows these tales to last for centuries among children and adults. Mieder then states many adults today do not accept the value of the benefits that these tales contain, and are too focus by real life problems. The adults of today s society are realist and do not see the good meaning behind these tales, deeming them to be far fetched, unlike the adults in the past who create these stories as a form of escape from the cruel reality. ... Technology and tools of communication are still in the process of development as technology continues to advance. As a site of cultural, political, and ideological discussion, it has unquestionably contributed to a culture and lifestyle dependent on technology. The World Wide Web has reconfigured people s perception of the world, allowing access to an extensive amount of information that previously has been inaccessible to them. In addition to enabling users to gain access to a plethora of information, the Internet is a tool of globalization in which ideas, knowledge, and thoughts are instantaneously shared on a worldwide scale. While some have portrayed the Internet as a powerful tool for free expression on the global network, others have highlighted the potential of networks with which the government can constrain the power of organizations through collective online actions and surveillance. With increasing advancements in technology comes greater and easier access to information and control. In a democratic nation, the Internet s ability to facilitate access to information about another person violates privacy rights. • 6. Jubien s Definition Of The Universe Jubien begins his argument by defining the universe as all of the physical aspects of space. With this as his foundation it is not possible for the Big bang to be the origin of the universe. As discussed in lecture, the common man denotes all this physical to being related to a first cause in an infinite chain of causes. This ideal is based on the thoughts that there was nothing before he Big Bang, and that the event itself started everything we can receive through our senses. According to Jubien s definition of the universe as containing all physical and material things, any physical cause could not be the origin of the universe because it would cause two new questions to arise. What was that event s cause? If it is even plausible, how can a physical event take place outside of the universe? Jubien would say that the origin of the universe can be answered with a simple I don t know, because there is only so far back causes can observably go before there is a lack of information available. Any physical cause of the universe can be traced to another cause, and therefore cannot be the origin of the universe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Theme Of Women In Heart Of Darkness In Conrad s 1899 novel Heart of Darkness, women are noticeably absent from the narrative. Almost every time they are introduced, they seem to be missing three dimensionality, rather serving as symbols for the men in the novel. Undoubtedly, the women are overwhelmingly undervalued, and placed in a separate sphere completely. The cult of domesticity was commonly used in the 19th century to illustrate the tendency to see women in private life, while men dominated public life. In an institution as large as colonization, women are overwhelmingly missing from the narrative. However, on closer inspection it becomes clear that the connection between the women in the novel, even without any interaction, is strong enough to form a type of story within a story, focusing on women and their influence. Even though the female characters in the novel are often dismissed, women are actually the masters of the fates of Marlow and Kurtz in the novel, and ultimately in the structure of colonization as a whole. Marlow almost immediately dismisses women by characterizing an interaction with his aunt by saying that women as a whole are out of touch with truth and that they live in a world of their own (Conrad 13). Even though Marlow s aunt got him a job at the company and is the only reason he journeyed to Congo in the first place, he looks down upon her, perhaps out of his own insecurity. Even though he questions the sense of women, his story is anything but reliable, being described as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is no file data caching because most applications now process large files which are simply too big to be cached. Their architecture is based on a single master to simplify the design. The system makes three copies of the data by default for recovery. They specify the chunk size to be 64 MB which is very large comparing to chunk size in other files systems because it first reduces the interaction between clients and master, reduces the network overhead if it uses persistence TCP connections, and decreases the size of metadata stored in the master however it could bring overhead if the data size is small when many clients are accessing the same file, but GFS is designed to majorly address large files. There are three types of metadata that are kept in the master. They are the file and chunk namespace, mappings from files to chunks, and the locations of each chunk s replicas. The first two types are stored in the operational log which is stored in the master s memory. However it doesn t store the third type persistently, it asks each chunk for its location when the master is being started. GFS uses a consistency model. The files are consistent if all clients see the same data regardless of which copy they are reading from. The content of metadata is mutated. The defiant Japanese commoners covered themselves lavishly from their necks to their elbows, and above the knees. The Japanese government looked upon this disturbance of the poor as subversive, and outlawed tattoos in 1870. This is when the symbolism of tattoos in Japanese culture shifted. They had gone from a representation of splendor, to one associated with Japanese crime. As a result, tattooists were forced to retreat into the background of Japanese society. Luckily for them, the Japanese gangster class in Japan known as the Ikuza, embraced this subculture with open arms. The elaborately designed tattoos of the Ikuza depicted above, represented character traits the wearer desired to emulate. A lion represented courage, while a carp was worn to emulate strength and perseverance. Because the designs required long periods of pain, the act itself was looked upon as a show of allegiance to the wearer s personal beliefs. Tattooing was also popular amongst Maori men of New Zealand, who covered their buttocks, thighs, and faces. Maori men had their faces tattooed by a moko artist, a technique that is unique to the Maori. Alfred Prufrock as the best poem I have yet had or seen from an American . Ezra Pound then takes Eliot in as his student. In 1915, he published his first poetic masterpiece called The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock which was written four years before he published this piece. A few years later, Eliot worked at Lloyd`s Bank, but is ordered to take a three month vacation. During this vacation, on the way to Switzerland, Eliot visits Ezra in Paris with his just written poem. Victor finds solace in solitude with nature, and appears to use it as a coping mechanism to escape from the horrors of his life. Nature also ties into how the monster Victor has created feels, but in a much different way than it does for him. Victor becomes ill sometime during the story after he leaves home and goes off to study at college. It is assumed by his father that he will feel better after being with his family and Elizabeth, the woman who he will later marry. But really all Victor wants is to take a breath of fresh air alone, showing how he truly feels about solitude and the environment. It makes the reader wonder what he really cares about, and if he even misses his family. We passed a fortnight in these perambulations: my health and spirits had long been restored, and they gained additional strength from the salubrious air I breathed, the natural incidents of our progress . . . Throughout everything that happens to Victor in the book. Including the death of his mother, brother, Elizabeth, and his father. All that seems to calm him is his return to nature. • 21. Sunday Morning By Wallace Stevens Wallace Stevens a well known American poet once said, In poetry, you must love the words, the ideas and the images and rhythms with all your capacity to love anything at all. In these lines, Stevens beautifully reveals that poetry is all about enjoying each line and each and every part of the poem as it would give you satisfaction and love for poetry as never before. Similarly, Stevens wrote a magnificent piece of work Sunday Morning , with various pieces of literary devices to enhance his poetry making it descriptive and enjoyable to read. For example, the use of techniques such as symbolism, theme, imagery, and tone Sunday Morning displays the clash that the speaker endures as she questions the Christian religion and her discovery of love for nature. It is evident throughout the poem that the woman has difficulty finding happiness in religion and enjoys nature, finding it to be inspiring unlike religion that can be destructive and disappointing. This coordinated plan is committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. It also has the tendency to occur when the government says that it is okay to resolve those problematic issues using violence. An example in which there was a combination of racism, power struggles, and violence that all led to genocide is in the specific case of Rwanda between the Hutu and Tutsi populations. Before colonial rule, the Tutsi were herdsmen and came from the Nile Valley. They brought concepts of power, monarchy, and kingship to Rwanda. The Tutsi took grazing lands from the Hutu, who were farmers, and lived among them. Gourevitch states that this was the original inequality: cattle were a more valuable asset than produce #8230;and the word Tutsi became synonymous with a political and economic elite (p. 48). The Tutsi, who were the powers of Rwanda, also became the protectors of the Hutu because they were armed with weapons and spears. Rwanda was certainly an unequal society, but the ethnic boundary was permeable. Overtime, some Tutsi married Hutu. Also, Hutu farmers could, and did, become wealthy Tutsi and acquired cattle as chiefs were incorporated into the ruling elite. Diderot s critique stands out among other artistic critiques of the eighteenth century in the way he manages to engage not only what is on the canvas, but also in the way he is able to instill each composition s elements with significance in a greater context. Diderot s critic of Hubert Robert s work, among others, in The Salon of 1767 serves as a lesson for both artists and observers. His writing engages both groups through exploration of the role antiquity, imagination, and temporality play in the creation and viewership of art. In doing so, Diderot defines what made the art and public of the eighteenth century unique. The new archaeological discoveries of the eighteenth century reinvigorated public interest in antiquity, and Diderot was no exception to this trend. Diderot observes, One rarely becomes a great writer, a great man of letters, or a man of remarkable taste without having made a close study of the ancients. Both the observer and artist must pay close attention to lessons from antiquity to properly understand concepts of beauty and the ideal. However, this is does not mean Diderot condones artists imitation of ancient art. To Diderot, copying the ancients will never bring contemporary artists to the level of beauty of antiquity . During the 18th century, theatre had played a significant role to society because it emphasized Rationalism (The Age of Reason), which began to lead away from the limitations of Neoclassicism. The poem is also about how knowing your history is key t knowing your identity and knowing your identity empowers you. Ozymandias power is presented as being evil and cruel . The description of his statue s facial expression sneer of cold command suggests arrogance and shows that the slaves who built the statues purposely portrayed this look on his face to mock ozymandias. Also the writing which appears on the statue s pedestal: king of kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair! shows how big his ego is. • 41. Benjamin Disraeli s Consolidation Of Political Power For centuries countries around the world have fought over which political party would benefit their countries the most. In Europe, during the nineteenth century Benjamin Disraeli and William Gladstone stole the stage in trying to transform the government that would benefit society. Gladstone and Disraeli both explored the conservative and liberal parties, but in the end they remained with the party and beliefs that suited them the most. Although they both faced many challenges with the economy, they overcame a majority of them through reforms and building a strong political structure. All over Europe transformations were taking place from changing political alignments to structuring the perfect government, which allowed for several domestic reforms to occur. Some of the ... Originally, Robert Peel created the conservative party, but when it failed, Disraeli took over becoming the leader. His main reform was the Reform Act of 1867, which became a major step toward the rebuilding of the system in Britain. This reform decreased the monetary requirements for voting, but it was still based on land qualifications, and increased the amount of individuals voting from one million to two million people. Disraeli believed this reform would appeal to the working classes and eventually benefit the conservative party. He was highly motivated by winning, but he was extremely flexible in handling parliamentary reform and structuring a strong political system that worked. Disraeli s political party was successful, but he did not instill a lot of reform into society to help society out tremendously. • 43. Why I Want to Pursue a Degree in Ece Essay One: Why I Want To Pursue a Degree In ECE Angelina D. Lewis MOC @ Wilmington EDU 305 Early Childhood Education June 7, 2011 2 Ever since I was a little girl, I ve known what I wanted to do. I am one of those people who was blessed enough to realize my passion at an early age. As far back as I can remember, I ve wanted to become a teacher. I can remember as a child sitting in my room, surrounded by my stuffed animals (or students, as I saw them) and forcing my younger brother to sit still and quietly do the work I assigned him. I even had two baskets which I kept on my little wooden desk; one for my students to turn in work, and the other for more work which needed to be graded. I spent many afternoons ... I worked there part time as an after school teacher. The program was designed to help at risk kids stay on track by connecting with resources from the community and extra academic guidance to help them learn. I loved this job and the children so much, so during the day I was attending the community college to try and start pursuing my goal. In early 2006 I was knocked off track. My little brother was killed in a car accident at the age of 17. My world went pretty dark for a while, and I dropped out of college and left my jobs. After a few months of deep grieving, I got on my feet and got a job making more money as a receptionist for a window company. I pushed my passion to the back of my brain and put the money first. I was all determined to have a grown up job and be on my own. This meant I couldn t afford classes, or books. I also had to have a full time day job to afford my rent. Teaching went to the back burner for several years. I was offered higher positions at my job, and pretty soon found myself sitting in the office behind the desk from which I myself was hired. I hated it. I could sit on the computer all day long and do nothing. Most people would ve loved my job. But I could not handle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Differences Between Newark And Washington s 7th... Throughout all levels of American politics incumbents running for reelection have a huge and systematic advantage over their challengers. In this paper, the incumbency advantage will be examined through the lens of James Jim McDermott s continual reelection in Washington s 7th Congressional District and Sharpe James, the longtime mayor of Newark. James incumbency advantage is especially interesting in the context of 2002 mayoral campaign, where he was nearly unseated by Cory Booker. Both McDermott and James served their constituents for over 30 years and developed sizable incumbency advantages, though in some cases they were used in different ways. Looking at the differences demographically between Newark and Washington s 7th Congressional District can be striking, but if instead the incumbency advantage is considered, the similarities are wide reaching and fascinating. In this paper, six major elements of incumbency advantage will be looked at: name recognition, party advantage, redistricting, constituency service, focus on candidates and special incumbent privileges. Before comparing the incumbency advantage, the differences between Newark and Washington s 7th congressional district have to be examined. While the incumbency advantage is very similar in each region, the physical and demographical difference couldn t be starker. First, and most obviously, Sharpe James was running for mayoral position of Newark but Jim McDermott was running for the United States House of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Chimera of Ethnic Humour Humour has always had the ability as long as anyone can remember to bring people together and unify them to become closer and better acquainted. As humour developed over time different categories of humour appeared. Ethnic humour is one of the categories that was created decades ago and continues to be widely used in present day comedy. The concept of ethnic, racial, and gender humour is as sensitive a subject today as it has ever been; and yet there has never been such a prolific quantity of this humour as there is in current day society. It manifests in American culture s films and stand up comedy routines, as well as on popular TV sitcoms. The audience for this annihilated single system with N incongruity (Davis 28). The joke sets up a system of the debate on abortion throughout the world. The unexpected and an incongruity then occur with unnatural responses and the system is broken and this is what triggers the laughter. The style and way the joke is set up can closely be compared to many other categories of jokes. But what sets ethnic jokes apart is how the system it creates makes a person think of an ethnic group, then commonly has a play on that ethnic cultures common stereo types which are often very biased and racist. Furthermore, another way that this joke can be analyzed and viewed is through Lois Leveen s perspective. Leveen points out, That if the teller and the audience of the joke are non Jewish the joke has a sense of prejudice and is hyper critical. However, if the teller and audience of the joke were Jewish, the joke would then be comprehended in a different light. The Jewish would take the joke from someone within their group and enjoy it because of a sense of pride, connecting Jewish life to elevated expectancy they would be happy to be known for (Qtd. In Rapport. The Sword 1). This analysis that Leveen gives sheds light on how it is feasible for ethnic jokes to have many different meanings; depending on the content, teller and audience of the joke. Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Kimberly Lewis NUR 408 May 7, 2012 Theresa White, MSN Community Emergency Preparedness and Response Paper Preparing for an emergency and knowing what to do in case of an emergency is an important aspect every community should know. Preparedness can be the difference between life and death in certain situations. This is the case in Season two Episode five of this week s assignment. Nurse Karen advises patients with respiratory diseases to stay indoors to avoid any respiratory irritants the fire is causing. Many of the public health care teams in Neighborhood were playing catch up after the fire had been raging for days. The hospital in Neighborhood failed to call a code yellow. Initiating a code yellow would have alerted the emergency response team to action to help accommodate the influx of patients the health care facilities were facing. Because of the failure to call the code yellow, the staff is overworked and is causing added stress on the hospital staff on the floor, the emergency room, and throughout the hospital. If a state of emergency were called, more staff as well as room for patients would have been made available, thus decreasing stress the staff is feeling. Because the forest fire was raging out of control close to the city, the science fair should have either been canceled or rescheduled until the fire was put out and the threat gone. Public service announcements should have been broadcast alerting residents of the fire and the health hazards they could face. Residents should have been warned to stay indoors and to only go outside if necessary. Luckily, most residents stayed indoors, or else there would have been an even larger number of patients in the emergency room.
