Selfish Motivations In Primeval Forest
In class, how we defined what it meant to be a missionary was an individual responding to a
need, a call to serve. From time to time, the area in which the missionary is called to serve is a
foreign land, where they would have to start anew and sacrifice some of their own privilege
interests. In general, when people think about missionaries, or what it means to be a missionary,
they picture a kind person, sympathetic to those around them. Someone who wants to work to
better the conditions of livelihood to those they will be serving. Missionaries are to be moral
people, or organizations, looking to serve for the better good. However, through the media
discussed in class, the main points of comparisons shed a new light on the term of becoming a
missionary: the sincere, wholesome imagery of missionaries soon start to fade. Instead,
Primeval Forest and Mosquito Coast show the darker side of doing missions: selfishness and
self satisfaction. In all three works seen or discussed in/for class, the main protagonists had
selfish motivations to travel abroad. In Primeval Forest, there seems to be a sense of ennui of the
doctor s life within the first page of the book. Having grown accustomed to the daily routine and
what he saw every day, he decided to embark on a new journey for a life in Africa. Similarly, in
Tanzanian Doctor, the protagonist ended up in Tanzania by coincidence. Wanting more than the
typical hospital life, he quit his job in search for something new. By coincidence,

Vienna (Wien as said in German) is the capital of Austria and is a thriving city full of stunning
artwork and teeming with culture. Situated in the centre of Europe, it is encompassed by many
hills with great connections to major waterways. From a beginning as a Celtic settlement in
roughly 500 BC, it changed hands countless times, becoming a significant city in Rome and the
capital of many great empires. It became a huge trading city through its use of the land routes and
the Danube (Europe s second longest river). In 1804 Vienna developed into the capital of the
Austrian empire and has stayed constant since. With modern technology (Cars, trains, other

Comparing The City And Uncharted Forest In Ayn Rand s Anthem
The book Anthem was written in 1938 by Ayn Rand and is about what could happen to the
world if we would agree to a collective society. The main two places in the novel are the City and
the Uncharted Forest which both have similarities and differences. A similarity between the City
and Uncharted Forest is that both have houses and towards the end of the book also that people
are living in both places (Rand 88 89). There are a lot of differences in between the City and the
Uncharted Forest such as that the City is completely discovered and the Uncharted forest is
forbidden and undiscovered, the house that Liberty and Equality discover in the forest looks a lot
different than the ones in the City, the City is called safe and never to be left whereas the forest is
called dangerous and not to be entered and that there is not human life in the forest compared to the
City. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything in the City is been discovered at one point and everything has some purpose. The
forest on the other hand has never been discovered and is forbidden to everyone in the City,
which scares every one and they stay out. The house that Liberty and Equality discovered is a lot
different from the ones they knew. The house has a flat roof, a bedroom, lots of colors and
clothes different they have ever seen For they were not white tunics, nor white togas: they were
of all colors no two of them alike (Rand 89 91). It is said that there is no life in the Uncharted
Forest and that is would be dangerous because no one has ever returned, where the City is save
and full of people. But when Liberty and Equality go in the Uncharted Forest they find out that is

Convocation In Christianity
Presently, support, at that point, is the very pivot and mainstay of Christianity. A blunder in the
tenet of defense resembles an imperfection in the establishment of a building; everything from that
point on up is off. The regulation of avocation is the premise of New Testament tenet for a scriptural
Christianity.
Presently defense originates from the law courts. A man was charged under the watchful eye of a
judge; they were articulated blameworthy, crooked. Also, that is valid for each man naturally
introduced to the world, articulated before the bar of God low. Would could it be that can make a
man just according to God? Would could it be that can make him upright or right according to

Analysis Of The Transformation Of Home Depot
Organization transformation is one of the ways companies can reinvent themselves to survive a
crisis. However, organization transformations don t always work for some companies. The
purpose of this paper is to discuss the positive and negative changes that took place at Home
Depot during the time Bob Nardelli was CEO. The writer will discuss current performance and
other company information. And last, the writer will conclude with a Christian worldview
regarding Home Depot s transformation and present success. Bob Nardelli s top down approach
that he was used to for so many years at General Electric was not the path to take for Home
Depot (Brown, 2011). The managers at Home Depot were used to being independent and
decentralized. They were not used to taking orders from the corporate office. In fact, they had
always made their own decisions doing what they thought would work best for their stores.
Because of Home Depot s entrepreneurial culture that they were accustomed to for twenty two
years, the stores would not survive a top down approach to change. Moreover, a change that
drastic would have to be strategically done to have any success. Nardelli, coming from a
background of structured management, failed to realize that what worked for one organization
might not work for another. Home Depot was known to have an unstructured and entrepreneurial
type of culture, entirely different from GE where Nardelli had previously worked (Brown, 2011).

Regulating Negative Humor
Research by Samson, Gross (2012) discussed that positive humor would be more effective at
regulating negative emotions than negative humor. The author also discussed another study, which
was conducted to remove various limitations of the previous study including the potential effects of
differences in difficulty between the two humors conditions. Current research used participant s
expectations or social desirability to measure such limitation. Although it seems like the author has
analyzed everything to support the following hypothesis, this particular research still lacks
credibility in various aspects. To build credibility Samson, Gross (2012) discussed how humor has
long been seen as an effective coping strategy. However, in the following paragraph of the journal
article, it states that experimental literature on the effects of humor is still considered inconclusive.
In other words, before we make a conclusion regarding the type of humor that is more effective, we
must determine whether humor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This imprecise view would make it even more difficult to determine whether a certain type of
humor is more beneficial when it comes to regulating negative emotions. More empirical evidence
is required before we can determine that humor itself is a positive phenomenon for regulating
negative emotions. The present study uses humor as an emotion regulation and tries to determine
whether different types of humor have different effects on negative emotion. Another major issue
with this research is that author fails to acknowledge the other aspects of emotion as a variable.
The author is only interested in different types of humor and it effects on those emotions, which
are perceived negative. However emotion as a variable is not only limited to negative aspects but it
may also include other aspects (e.g.,

novel even more chilling. The main point of view of Regeneration is an omniscient narrator,
however shifting the perspective from character to character is a tool used by the novelist to gain

Pride And Prejudice Marriage Proposal Essay
In the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, the comical scene in which the protagonist,
Elizabeth, receives a marriage proposal from her cousin, Mr. Collins, addresses the issue of the
societal expectations regarding women accepting marriage proposals. One wrong expectation that
is reflect in this scene is a women must accept a marriageproposal, even if she does not lovethe man,
out of fear she will never receive another one. Mr. Collins tells Elizabeth that she should marry him,
because she may never receive another proposal. Another struggle that exists in the novel is the

proposal she may never marry since there is no guarantee she will ever receive a second

Edward III Leadership
The leadership of the English kings during the Hundreds Years War could have been the sole
reason for English victories and the great monarchs Edward III and Henry V were both master

notable being Edward III s son Prince Edward more commonly known as the Black Prince . He
was a master of military tactics and played a large role throughout this father s campaigns either
leading his own forces or under the command of his father. The Black Prince was a renowned

English attack. Edward sent his ships [...] two ships crammed with archers and one full of men at

English to simply overwhelm the French ships before boarding them and dramatically reduced the

The Theme Of Madness In Hamlet And Shakespeare s Hamlet
Shakespeare is known for the many reoccurring themes in his tragedies. One such theme is that of
love causing madness. One prime example of this is Ophelia s downfall in Hamlet. Hamlet has
been transformed into motion pictures any times, and two show the theme of madness in Ophelia
in different ways: the 1990 version of Hamlet created by Zeffirelli and the 1996 version by
Branagh. While both actresses that played Ophelia conveyed the madness well, they took different
approaches in terms of vocal inflections and movements. The directors also took different
approaches to portray madness like costumes and settings. Lastly, while Bonham Carter s Ophelia
in 1990 shows some ambiguity in the reasons behind her madness, Blanchett s Ophelia in 1996 does
not.
The major scene that shows the madness Ophelia has descended into is in act four scene five. The
two portrayals by Helen Bonham Carter and Kate Blanchett are quite different as shown by their
acting of this scene. First, Bonham Carter s movements appear much more calculated than
Blanchett s movements, as Blanchett primarily lies on the ground trashing out in a random manner.
Bonham Carter, on the other hand, walks around the set with a purposeful stride
(witchywoman4u12, 2011). Next, they also speak quite differently. Blanchett screams the majority
of the speech and speaks with an inflection that speaks of unsureness. Bonham Carter speaks with a
calmer tone like she knows exactly what she is saying. Lastly, when Ophelia has interactions
between herself and another character like her conversations with Gertrude and Claudius, Blanchett
s Ophelia appears to be unaware of her surroundings and other people initiate the conversations
(Aaron Bradford, 2013). Unlike the 1996 version, Bonham Carter gets up close to people when
she is talking to them, and initiates the conversations between herself and Claudius and Gertrude.
This happens during Ophelia s lines, Where is the beauteous majesty of Denmark...How should I
your true love know From another one? By his cockle hat and staff, And his sandal shoon...Say
you? nay, pray you, mark. He is dead and gone, lady, He is dead and gone; At his head a grass

21 April 2015 Where the Hell is Dave Chappell s Filter? Comedy for many people translates as
being pure entertainment, which provides many laughs; however the reality is that while it has
many surface pleasures it also holds many interior truths. Focusing in on the framework of comedy
this paper will concentrate on the underlying discourse of this craft that has mastered the art of
pushing social boundaries in a way its listener can receive its unrestricted reality without a great
deal of objection. In some cases comedians are solely responsible for determining the content of

In this sketch some of the dialogue consisted of statements such as First of all they re lazy, good
for nothin tricksters, crack smokin swindlers, big butt havin, with their wide noses breathin all the

which glorifies Chappell s exaggerated use of satire, but basically mocks many of the racist
stereotypes associated with black people. As with many things of this nature, everyone didn t
receive this humor in the way intended, ultimately bringing light to the delicacy surrounding
satire when it applies to race. Although another intriguing spectrum of this use of satire is
apparent when looking at how this skit alongside this overall show in question factored heavily
into prolonged consequences. This show treaded a thin line that the dynamic of race based
comedy treads with the ability it has in creating awareness with the risk of actually being a way
in which to reinforce as well. This as Dave Chappell so boldly and accurately put it in his Oprah
Winfrey interview was an action of being socially irresponsible , which inevitably troubled the
young comedian, resulting in his decision to walk away from the show. The reality remains that

A Very Brief Biography of Alexander Dubcek
Alexander DubДЌek was the leader of Czechoslovakia in 1968. He was a communist, yet he
wanted to transform Czechoslovakia into a democratic nation. He was born in Uhrovek, Slovakia
on November 27th, 1921. His family moved to the Soviet Union in 1925. DubДЌek received an
early education in Kirgiziya and became a loyal communist. In 1944, he moved back to Slovakia
and secretly joined the Communist Party. After World War II, very loyal communists were
appointed to high government posts. Moscow wanted all these countries to be loyal without
question. DubДЌek was not at the point to be offered these jobs, but did become a Communist
Party official in 1949. He was then sent to Political School from 1955 till 1958. When he returned,
he became a Chief secretary of the regional committee in Bratislava in 1958. DubДЌek was known
as a reliable member who did not want to mess up the system. He eventually became a full member
of the Central Committee s Presidium in 1962. After he attained this position, he permitted himself
to be known as the mortal who would succeed Antonin NovotnГї. NovotnГї could not solve the
very difficult economic situation that Czechoslovakiawas facing. DubДЌek succeeded NovotnГї on
January 5th, 1968. In early 1968, the people of Czechoslovakia were given more freedom. This
arrived as a shock to most Communist leaders in Moscow, since earlier he had been known as a
devoted communist.Soon after this he publicly pronounced that he wished to make the largest

Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel
Alison Bechdel, a literary and queer theorist herself who would go on to coin the Bechdel test,
grew up in close proximity to theory. In a family of academics, with her teacher father and former
actress mother, Bechdel was always surrounded by literature, so when it comes to self discovery
of her sexuality, it s no surprise that she turns to the literary realm, from Rubyfruit Jungle to the
Oxford English Dictionary, to understand herself. Bechdel s first graphic memoir, Fun Home,
examines her upbringing in a funeral home with her cold mother and her closeted bisexual father,
who commits suicide soon after Bechdel leaves for college. It engages in frequent literary and
theory illusions, beginning from the mention of Icarian Games on the very first page. While
Bechdel s work seems like it could be easily situated in structuralist theory, the work easily lends
itself to a multiplicity of meanings, an inherent feature of deconstructionwork that allows readers to
veer into feminist theory, queer theory, or even Marxist theory. Just as Bechdel rewrites and
reframes the events of her formative years multiple times throughout the novel, the novel
particularly lends itself to structuralist, deconstruction, queer, and feminist theory, which all lead to
particularly illuminating readings that compliment each other. Fun Home perhaps most glaringly
fits into the literary theory of structuralism, and its application becomes easy as soon Bechdel
introduces the readers to her father s constant rebuilding of their home on page 5. One of
structuralism s main tenants is understanding the world as discursively constructed, meaning that
there is no inherent essence or nature that informs one s production, whether that be behavior or
presentation or style, and that one then understands the world through binary opposition and
discourse (Parker 77 81). Bechdel s father produces a perfected period piece facade for the
Bechdel home, which simultaneously indulged his obsessive love for home decor, an interest
usually only allowed for homosexual men, while providing the facade of an idealized happy
homeplace. Analyzing the home s surface structure would prove unfruitful for conveying any of the
internalized conflict of the family, and

The Odysseus-Personal Narrative
Complete Cleansing An old crow perched on the uppermost battlements of the enormous black
stone castle. Its wise eyes gazed out at the surrounding scenery, giving the impression that it had
ruled the castle for eternity. In the courtyards and rooms below the wizened crow, the silence
ruled so heavily that it could almost be heard. Nothing had set foot within the gates in many,
many years. A heavy curse lay on the blackened stones of the might fortress, and no living thing
dared venture within the crow s watchful gaze. Jason stepped out of the woods and studied the
fearsome fortress, which loomed on a hill, many yards above his head. Jason wore a long dark
coat, which barely managed to conceal the hilt of a long sword hanging at his belt. His bright blue
eyes shone out from beneath his curly dark hair, and his right hand clutched nervously at the cluster

Bourdieu s Theory Of Cultural Capital
Summary Pierre Bourdieu is a French Theorist. Bourdieu s theory is to emphasize constructivist
structuralism and he was influenced by Karl Marx by cultural capital. Bourdieu presents the
question of class. Bourdieu claimed that capital forms the foundation of social life. Bourdieu thinks
the more capital a person have, the more powerful they will be, and Marx had the same view as
well. Bourdieu went on to claim that it had something to do with the symbolic realm of culture.
When Bourdieu brings culture into it he means the peoples attribute to the world, structured by
inequality and culture structures of inequality, also states that is a big part of social inequality.
Bourdieu s concept of cultural capital is skills, tastes, posture, clothing, mannerisms, material
belongings, credentials, etc. You usually receive them through a social class. Bourdieu divides
capital into three forms embodied, objectified, and institutionalized. He gives an example of
embodied cultural capital, while a luxury car is an example of cultural capital in its objectified
state. In its institutionalized state cultural capital would be credentials and qualifications (degrees
or titles that shows cultural authority and acceptance. Bourdieu has multiple concepts another one
being habitus which is the physical embodiment of cultural capital, to the deeply ingrained habits,
skills, and dispositions that we possess due to our experiences throughout life. In the video people

Examples Of Narcissism In The Alchemist
When Coelho included a different version of the story, Narcissus, in the prologue, he hinted that
one of the themes in the Alchemist would be man s relationship with nature. This was his way of
introducing the concept that all things are the manifestation of one thing only. And that when we
recognize that and begin to work with nature, that we will achieve great things. The lake, which
Coelho wrote about, in the Narcissus story supports this by saying, I weep for Narcissus, but I
never noticed that Narcissus was beautiful. I weep because, each time he knelt beside my banks, I
could see, in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected. After reading the book I came to
believe that there is an element of narcissism in following one s own... Show more content on

The Englishman and Santiago are both looking for something, the alchemist and treasure. But the
difference is that the boy is searching by observing his surrounding and the Englishman is
searching by reading the books. Though they might not agree with each other s ways they still
respect each other and are good friends. As Santiago tells himself, Everyone has his or her own
way of learning things. The Alchemist chose to befriend Santiago instead of the Englishman
because Santiago examined the desert and the people of the caravan. The Englishman was
immersed in his books, not bothering to contemplate the desert until Santiago advised him to. The
alchemist even says, He has other things to do first. But he s on the right track. He has begun to try
to understand the desert. As for the two hawks and the falcon they represent the understanding of
nature and what it tells us through symbols. They also reveal the knowledge of how the world and
all of its inhabitants communicate and ultimately work together to find their personal legend. As far

Persuasive Speech On Food
Lets talk food! I m not going to write about what you should be eating, and what you shouldn t be
eating. I am merely here to discuss something all mountain bikers crave from time to time, rad
meals that satisfy our stomachs and damn it, taste good! Oh no, this food does not qualify as
health food and is certainly not the kind of food that a lab rat athlete consumes in order to be as
light as possible. I m talking about food that would never be considered to be part of a
regimented training plan, but we are after all mountain bikers and we tend to be to a greater
extent a little more laid back than our roadie counterparts. We are not afraid to indulge when
needed in order to satisfy a nagging craving in a rebellious way, such as scarfing down a couple
of corn dogs as a reward for that gnarly singletrack we have mastered. Mountain bikers have
ravenous appetites and have been known to indulge in copious amounts of food and drink after a
long ride. We all have our favorites and you know what makes your mouth water.
Being that we are cyclists, many of us do attempt to make a concerted effort to choose a diet that
is well balanced and packed with nutrition. It is a well known fact that in order to become quicker
on your bike you need to eat properly, otherwise you can become sluggish and have no energy
reserves left for your next mountain bike adventure, but sometimes we do need to cut loose, say
screw it and let our growling stomachs take over our brains.

overstep some of the rights as President. It was a very risky order to blockade Cuban waters and

a Soviet vessel had refused to comply with U.S. orders to halt, they may have been fired on by one
of the many nearby American ships. Several Soviet ships were also boarded and inspected by
American sailors ( 32 ). The chance of war breaking out was very real, but it did not occur due to

Humanity has observed the heavens, viewing the feathered birds above them, being contemptuous
with their freedom of being winged creatures with the ability of flight. According to Orville

embedded in the minds of humanity. To possess flight, is to own the ability to resist the pull of a

invisibility is only good in two cases: It s useful in getting away; it s useful in approaching...
therefore, useful in killing , as stated from The Invisible Man (Wells), invisibility, is only useful for
immoral acts. Therefore, why wait and sneak on a plane with invisibility, when you can take off to

The Things They Carried Courage Analysis
The Things They Carried, a fiction novel by Tim O Brien, carries courage throughout the stories
he tells by describing what it takes to be a soldier in Vietnam. Through burning the pictures and
letters from a loved one, to seeing a friend s remains in a tree, and carrying on despite witnessing
a friend die, right before him, O Brien allows the reader to witness the true courage needed to be
a soldier. Being courageous is what holds these men together and makes every one of these stories
string together and relate to one another. Much like soldiers, these stories build each other up and
amplify their effects together. Tim O Brien represents how people coming from different places
experience the same need to be courageous during a time of war in the fiction novel The Things

In the history of America, Thomas Jefferson, the Secretary of State, and Hamilton, the Secretary of

that s where the similarities end as they had opposing views on everything. Jefferson was a
republican while Hamilton was a federalist. Jefferson had been opposed to all of Hamilton s ideas,

8). The second reason he interpreted the constitution this way was because if the Constitution
were to be interpreted loosely, it would pose a threat towards Slavery. Jefferson had supported
slavery, and did not want the government to be able to gain more power through the clause, and
in the long run, eventually ending slavery in America. The final reason Jefferson opposed
Hamilton s interpretation was because Hamilton was using his loose interpretation to his
advantage, creating a bank to further push his financial plan into motion, which was the exact
opposite of what Jefferson wanted as it went against all of his beliefs. Jefferson was trying to stop
Hamilton s plan, and one way was to stop the abuse of the Necessary and Proper clause.
Furthermore, Jefferson was against Hamilton s foreign policy. Hamilton was considered to be Pro

Cloud computing has become so famous; there is much widespread news about the cloud these
days. This is mainly because of the exponential shift of the business applications from traditional
models of software towards the Internet, and now through mobile devices. Cloud computing is a
model that uses the network of remote servers that has been hosted on the internet rather than on a

Masculine Ideas Of Power In The Bostonians And King...
Masculine ideas of power vary between characters and how they treat those around them. Power
usage in this sense is exercised in Henry James s The Bostonians and Mark Twain s A Connecticut
Yankee in King Arthur s Court. The two main male characters in these novels both have a need to
control others. From the time periods they are set and live in, menwere in charge of most things, so
this is seen many times. Comparing James s and Twain s ideas of this, though, are shown most
in Basil Ransom and Hank Morgan. Basil, reigning from the Confederate South, has the urge to
have power of Verena and what she does with her own life. Hank uses his power skills to control
an entire community of people in a period of time that is not his own. Both men see themselves
as Gods , in a sense, over others from their beliefs in their own power from their uses of their
voices, opinions, and appearances. Power has many definitions and a very long etymological
history. However, the most common is listed in the Oxford English Dictionary as the, Capacity to
direct or influence the behavior of others; personal or social influence, (Power, n.1 ). Power defines
literary characters, movements, real people, and more. Masculinityis also prevalent when looking at
power. The Oxford English Dictionary also has masculinity listed as meaning, The state or fact of

Re exposure to the Varicella zoster virus via close contact with individuals with the disease has
been proposed to boost specific immunity, therefore reducing the risk of contracting chicken pox. In
contrast, however, this may have lead to a higher incidence of shingles in older adults. The shingles
immunization is now recommended for people sixty years and older to offset contracting the
shingles virus. (Chavez, Santibanez, Gargiullo, Guris, 2007) Chickenpox is seasonal infectious
disease, and usually has an uptick of incidence in the late winter and early spring. For the most
part, chicken pox is a childhood disease, accounting for greater than 90% of incidences occurring in
kids less than ten years of age. It is typically nonthreatening in a healthy child, with a morbidity in
immune compromised patients and adults.
The agent factor is the presence of the virus, Varicella zoster, in the epidemiologic triangle. The

has one occurrence of chickenpox in their lifetime. After having chickenpox, however, the virus lies

Managerial Strategies For Public Administration Essay
Abstract
In light of recent recoveries from the existing fluid economic crisis, many nations are racing
towards achievement of distinctive goals. Resources have been pulled beyond reasonable lengths to
ensure economic development is achieved. However, to achieve this global objective, both
governmental and private entities must devise resolute policies that will ensure growth is achieved.
All this is achieved through application of managerial strategies. This paper will build a discussion
around two managerial strategies employed in public administration relative to how it sculpts the
rudiments of public service. Various sources shall be used to shed light on these strategies as well
as unearth benefits and risks that accompany them.
Managerial Strategies in Public Administration and their Impact on Public Service
The current wave of economic revitalization resonates as a wake up call for governments to
come up with appropriate policies and apply them in both private and public administration to be
at par with global competition from countries that they have historically shared favorable trade
relations. As a result of this awareness, public sectors in these nations have continued to
experience periodic policy reforms all aimed at increasing efficiency in the use of public resources
as well as reducing prodigality. This paper addresses some of the strategies used in management of
public administration that could have a potential lingering effect on normal

At the end of World War II, the United States took occupation of Japan in an under the pretext of
leading the nation toward a path of democracy. However, it appears that the intent of the United
States has changed over time. Instead of helping Japan in the years after WWII, the United States
used Japan as a pawn to better its own interests. In 1946, General MacArthur the Supreme
Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP) asked United Statescitizens to take the responsibility of
writing a new constitution for Japan. There was not a single Japanese person asked to help with the

When the proposition was given to include these issues, the majority of the group white males
found that the proposal went farther that our own constitution and was unnecessary to be included.
This decision was made after it was brought to their attention that many other countries at the time
had integrated these issues into their own constitution. The focus of the constitutional meetings
were not to create a newer better Japan, but to create an image of the United States in the Pacific
Ocean. To better manifest this image, the Unites States decided that it would be best if Japan
remained militarized. This demilitarization came in the form of Article 9, which stated that Japan
could not have an armed military force for forever. Without an army of their own, the United States
implemented their own troops and negotiated for there to be permanent bases in Japan; a constant
reminder of the influence and power of the United States. Once the constitution was implemented,
Japan began to change, however many of these changes were because of a United States backing.
One can see these changes if they look to the media of the time. Before the United States, cinema
had many restrictions and mostly portrayed to the military state. After the US occupation, American
movies were introduced which had more risquГ© topics. This new form of media had great favor

Some evidence proponents use to prove genetically engineered foods are really no different comes
from the American Association for the Advancement of Science that wrote in their, Statement by
the AAAS Board of Directors On Labeling of Genetically Modified Foods, consuming foods
containing ingredients derived from GM crops is no riskier than consuming the same foods
containing ingredients from crop plants modified by conventional plant improvement techniques.
(SITE). Many governmental and scientific organizations agree with the AAAS statement. The
National Academy of Sciences found that no adverse health effects attributed to genetic engineering
have been documented in the human population. (SITE). The scientific perspective is that
genetically modified foods do not cause risks to human health. Proponents argue that genetically
modified crops will prevent world hunger and be an answer to saving thousands of lives.
Analysis and evaluation of proponent s logic
Proponents logic for supporting the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act comes from the scientist
and governmental organizations that believe there is no difference between genetic engineering

How Did Eudora Welty Influence Society

Southern writers are some of the most prominent authors in America. One of those authors is
Eudora Alice Welty. Eudora Welty s life and career had influence on writers and society even after

Welty was born on April 13th, 1909 in Jackson Mississippi to Christian and Chestina Welty. She
grew up with two brothers and parents who strongly encouraged reading and writing. At the age of
seven, Welty was diagnosed with a heart condition. During that time she was bedridden and spent
a lot of time reading her favorite authors, such as The Brothers Grimm, Mark Twain, and many
others. She described her childhood and family to be happy, bookish, and close knit. Her earliest

thoughts, and she rewrote it from memory.
Five years after her first story was published, Welty published her first book called A Curtain of

How well A Curtain of Green succeeded impressed critics.
During 1955 1970, she was primarily occupied with lecturing and taking care of her family, but she
wrote Losing Battles in the meantime. In 1966, her mother and brother unexpectedly died just days

Budweiser Argumentative Essay
This Budweiser commercial was aired in 2014 as a part of the company s campaign to reduce
drinking and driving. This commercial was about the importance of finding an alternative ride
home or a place to stay for the night if you have been drinking. By finding an alternative ride
home or a place to stay would prevent you from causing an accident on the way home. The
producers of this commercial used the bond between a yellow lab and his owner to show the
importance of getting home safely after you have been drinking. They were able to achieve this by
starting the commercial when the owner brings the dog home for the first time and then showing
clips of them together as the dog grows older up until the night that the owner decides to go off with

Since this commercial was only a minute long they were able to use the same song throughout
the commercial. They chose a song that represented the bond between the dog and his owner but
the lyrics would have also worked if it were two humans instead of a human and a dog. The
producers were probably very careful when selecting this music because they wanted it to
transition into everyday life and have not just be applicable with the relationship between the
dog and his owner. This is evident in one of the lyrics of this commercial, A lifetime is not long
enough to show you what you mean to me. If you were only listening to the song, then you
would unable to know that this was not about a couple who were falling in love but about a dog
who does not want his owner to leave him behind. Using a song that would also apply to many
different types of relationships was a smart choice because it will have the ability to gather an
emotional response even if some people do not like dogs. This song selection was also a smart
choice because it was not overpowering the message of the Budweiser commercial but rather it
enhanced the message that people and pets are waiting for you to return home safely after

Stakeholder
Stakeholders, Shareholders and Wealth Maximization
V. Sivarama Krishnan, University of Central Oklahoma
ABSTRACT
This paper attempts reconciliation between the two somewhat extreme views espoused by the
shareholder wealth maximization paradigm and the stakeholder theory. The stakeholder theory
challenges the basic premise built into corporate finance theory, teaching and practice. Corporate
finance theory, teaching and the typically recommended practice are all built on the premise that
the primary goal of a corporation should be shareholder wealth value maximization. Extant
theoretical and empirical research in financial economics also generally accept shareholder wealth
maximization as the normative and ideal goal on which all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This paper is an attempt at reconciling the two somewhat extreme views espoused by the
shareholder wealth maximization paradigm and the stakeholder theory. It aims to provide a fair and
balanced review of the two approaches to corporate goal setting and their respective implications
to business decision making. We also attempt to address what is felt as a lack of dialogue
between the two camps. The paper is organized as follows. The first part provides a summary
view of the shareholder wealth maximization approach, which we call the traditional finance
paradigm. This is followed by a review of the current research and the salient parts of the
stakeholder theory. The following section presents a summary of the critique of the stakeholder
theory by two of the most eminent and perhaps the strongest critics of the theory, Michael Jensen
(2001) and Elaine Sternberg
(1999). This is followed by what we consider as our own insight into the stakeholder theory and our
attempt at reconciliation between the two approaches. The last section provides summary and
concluding comments.
THE FINANCE PARADIGM
The traditional finance paradigm puts the shareholder wealth maximization as the primary goal of
corporate management. This paradigm is built upon the classic competitive markets assumption.
Essentially, it is assumed that all participants who have transactions with a firm employees,
suppliers, customers, lenders, etc. are

it. We evaluate the current problem C P is facing and the future trend of the technology. We
reviewed SAP and its competitor, Oracle, to determine whether C P should stay with their current

Mr Leibniz, Philosopher And Philosopher
Forgive me, sir, but I must point out that when you contend that there is nothing in the soul of
which it is not aware, you are begging the question ... it is impossible that we should always reflect
explicitly on all our thoughts; for if we did, the mind would reflect on each reflection, ad infinitum,
without ever being able to move on to a new thought. For example, in being aware of some present
feeling, I should have always to think that I think about that feeling, and further to think that I think
of thinking about it, and so on ad infinitum. It must be that I stop reflecting on all these reflections,
and that eventually some thought is allowed to occur without being thought about; otherwise I
would dwell for ever on the same thing.
(NE II.i.19, 118)
To Mr Leibniz, Philosopher in Hanover
Sir,
You have attempted to show that we can think and not be aware of it by showing that Locke s
conception of consciousness leads to an infinite regress of reflections. If you had been successful
in showing it absurd that we explicitly reflect on all of our thoughts, Locke would have had to
accept the idea that we can think and yet not be aware of it. Therefore, it may be the case that the
soul is indeed in perpetual motion. The first premise of your argument is your interpretations of
Locke s conception of consciousness; the mind s explicit reflection of thoughts. On this account,
whenever there is a thought in my mind, there is a higher order reflection of that thought. It

Science And Its Impact On Science Essay
Science is an ordered study of the global facts that involves keen observation, analyses and the use
of experiment to certify the researched facts. Science can also be defined as the orderly wits that
are obtained through observation and even through the research and experiments. In the field of
philosophy, scienceis defined as the approach or the methodology used to test the philosophical
hypothesized statements about nature and other related matters of life. Science interacts differently
with various topics such as theory, presupposition, prediction, causation, correlation, probability,
possibility and even the impossibility. The various elements have different roles in science which
are going to be evaluated in the paper.
The theory is one of the most important aspects of science; are the backbone of science. From the
definition of science, we have seen that it is a systematic manner of generating knowledge.
Theories help to elaborate the observed phenomenon regarding what is known; they predict the
unknown, and in the end, they come up with a conclusion or a new format of the situation.
Theories also help to show the scope of the observed conditions as well as interactions of the
situation with other entities. Therefore, theory plays the role of enabling of the formulation of
hypothesis in science which are later tested using the systematic approach to science.
Scientists are those specialists dealing with science, and they are human too. Each and every human

perspective. All throughout the book, the main characters toy with the fact of just how large the
universe is, and that their lives are pretty obsolete. As first shown in Chapter 10, the Total
Perspective Vortex, a torture device, shows The Universe, the whole infinite Universe. The infinite
suns, the infinite distances between them and yourself an invisible dot on an invisible dot,
infinitely small . This machine shows yourself compared to the entire universe and just how tiny
we really are. Another way this theme is portrayed is by the way people react to supposed big
things . The protagonists find themselves at Milliways, the restaurant at the end

The Abolition Of Stigma Of A Young Age
The Abolishment of Stigma Living a life that is filling with criticism and stigmatization from
both an internal and external force is not a life any person should have to life, but it is
unquestionably not the life for a young adolescent. Teenagers living with depression face daily
obstacles with social interactions, and the interactions in their minds. The stigma placed on
mental illness has made it nearly impossible for teens fighting depression to feel comfortable
with themselves, and more importantly that the teenagers belong. When facing depression, a
teen will most likely feel alienated from those around themselves. The struggle of the deep sense
of loneliness felt by depressed teens is unbearable to most, which is why many choose to take
their own life. I know these feelings all too well, because I have been battling depression for
three years. I know that true horrors that come with having depression at a young age, and what
it is like living in a world that does not look kindly on that. It is very difficult to open to those
around, because most people think the depression is just like sadness and will be temporary. In
the beginning, friends and family did not understand why I was not my normal self, and they
would tell me to stop sleeping so much and to cheer up. Most people cannot or choose to not
comprehend the fact that there is no quick fix cure for depression, and that this is my new reality.
Most people around me and most teens with depression try their best

Corporate governance major concern is making sure that the strategic decisions are effective
and that it paves the way towards strategic competitiveness. (Hitt, Ireland, Hoskisson, 2017, p.

Secondary School Vs. Vocational Education
Although most secondary school systems maintain a distinction between academic and vocational
education, to vocationalize or not to vocationalize the secondary school has been a persistent
question in many educational systems, especially in developing countries (Holsinger Cowell, 2000;
Lauglo Maclean, 2006; Psacharopoulos, 1987). On the one hand, from a developmental perspective,
the advocates of vocational secondary educationperceive it as a way to develop human capital for
economic development and provide students with better chances to compete in the labour market
(Brunello Checci, 2007; Gallart, 2001; Meer, 2007; Miranda, 2005; Shavit Muller, 2000). On the
other hand, the stratification of educational systems between a higher curriculum (general
secondary school) and a lower curriculum (vocational secondary school) has been deemed to be a
source of inequality in the distribution of education opportunities (Kerckhoff, 2001). Students in the
vocational schools typically come from low socio economic strata (LarraГ±aga, Cabezas,
Dussaillant, 2014; Psacharopoulos Loxley, 1985). At the same time, studies show that vocational
secondary schools may prevent low income students from further training beyond secondary
educationbecause they do not develop the skills required for tertiary education(Brunello Checci,
2007; FarГas Carrasco, 2012; Holm, Meier, Bernt Karlson, Reimer, 2013; Malamud Pop Eleches,
2008; Shavit Muller, 2000). In addition, scholars

  • 3. Selfish Motivations In Primeval Forest In class, how we defined what it meant to be a missionary was an individual responding to a need, a call to serve. From time to time, the area in which the missionary is called to serve is a foreign land, where they would have to start anew and sacrifice some of their own privilege interests. In general, when people think about missionaries, or what it means to be a missionary, they picture a kind person, sympathetic to those around them. Someone who wants to work to better the conditions of livelihood to those they will be serving. Missionaries are to be moral people, or organizations, looking to serve for the better good. However, through the media discussed in class, the main points of comparisons shed a new light on the term of becoming a missionary: the sincere, wholesome imagery of missionaries soon start to fade. Instead, Primeval Forest and Mosquito Coast show the darker side of doing missions: selfishness and self satisfaction. In all three works seen or discussed in/for class, the main protagonists had selfish motivations to travel abroad. In Primeval Forest, there seems to be a sense of ennui of the doctor s life within the first page of the book. Having grown accustomed to the daily routine and what he saw every day, he decided to embark on a new journey for a life in Africa. Similarly, in Tanzanian Doctor, the protagonist ended up in Tanzania by coincidence. Wanting more than the typical hospital life, he quit his job in search for something new. By coincidence, ... Comparing The City And Uncharted Forest In Ayn Rand s Anthem The book Anthem was written in 1938 by Ayn Rand and is about what could happen to the world if we would agree to a collective society. The main two places in the novel are the City and the Uncharted Forest which both have similarities and differences. A similarity between the City and Uncharted Forest is that both have houses and towards the end of the book also that people are living in both places (Rand 88 89). There are a lot of differences in between the City and the Uncharted Forest such as that the City is completely discovered and the Uncharted forest is forbidden and undiscovered, the house that Liberty and Equality discover in the forest looks a lot different than the ones in the City, the City is called safe and never to be left whereas the forest is called dangerous and not to be entered and that there is not human life in the forest compared to the City. The house has a flat roof, a bedroom, lots of colors and clothes different they have ever seen For they were not white tunics, nor white togas: they were of all colors no two of them alike (Rand 89 91). A blunder in the tenet of defense resembles an imperfection in the establishment of a building; everything from that point on up is off. • 10. Analysis Of The Transformation Of Home Depot Organization transformation is one of the ways companies can reinvent themselves to survive a crisis. However, organization transformations don t always work for some companies. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the positive and negative changes that took place at Home Depot during the time Bob Nardelli was CEO. The writer will discuss current performance and other company information. And last, the writer will conclude with a Christian worldview regarding Home Depot s transformation and present success. Bob Nardelli s top down approach that he was used to for so many years at General Electric was not the path to take for Home Depot (Brown, 2011). The managers at Home Depot were used to being independent and decentralized. They were not used to taking orders from the corporate office. In fact, they had always made their own decisions doing what they thought would work best for their stores. Because of Home Depot s entrepreneurial culture that they were accustomed to for twenty two years, the stores would not survive a top down approach to change. Moreover, a change that drastic would have to be strategically done to have any success. Nardelli, coming from a background of structured management, failed to realize that what worked for one organization might not work for another. Home Depot was known to have an unstructured and entrepreneurial type of culture, entirely different from GE where Nardelli had previously worked (Brown, 2011). Therefore, ... • 11. Regulating Negative Humor Research by Samson, Gross (2012) discussed that positive humor would be more effective at regulating negative emotions than negative humor. The author also discussed another study, which was conducted to remove various limitations of the previous study including the potential effects of differences in difficulty between the two humors conditions. Current research used participant s expectations or social desirability to measure such limitation. Although it seems like the author has analyzed everything to support the following hypothesis, this particular research still lacks credibility in various aspects. To build credibility Samson, Gross (2012) discussed how humor has long been seen as an effective coping strategy. However, in the following paragraph of the journal article, it states that experimental literature on the effects of humor is still considered inconclusive. In other words, before we make a conclusion regarding the type of humor that is more effective, we must determine whether humor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This imprecise view would make it even more difficult to determine whether a certain type of humor is more beneficial when it comes to regulating negative emotions. More empirical evidence is required before we can determine that humor itself is a positive phenomenon for regulating negative emotions. The present study uses humor as an emotion regulation and tries to determine whether different types of humor have different effects on negative emotion. Another major issue with this research is that author fails to acknowledge the other aspects of emotion as a variable. The author is only interested in different types of humor and it effects on those emotions, which are perceived negative. However emotion as a variable is not only limited to negative aspects but it may also include other aspects (e.g., ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main point of view of Regeneration is an omniscient narrator, however shifting the perspective from character to character is a tool used by the novelist to gain the reader s empathy as they relate the horrific and traumatic experiences that were brought about in the war. The narrative allows the readers to delve into the minds of the characters, and feel empathy. • 18. The Theme Of Madness In Hamlet And Shakespeare s Hamlet Shakespeare is known for the many reoccurring themes in his tragedies. One such theme is that of love causing madness. One prime example of this is Ophelia s downfall in Hamlet. Hamlet has been transformed into motion pictures any times, and two show the theme of madness in Ophelia in different ways: the 1990 version of Hamlet created by Zeffirelli and the 1996 version by Branagh. While both actresses that played Ophelia conveyed the madness well, they took different approaches in terms of vocal inflections and movements. The directors also took different approaches to portray madness like costumes and settings. Lastly, while Bonham Carter s Ophelia in 1990 shows some ambiguity in the reasons behind her madness, Blanchett s Ophelia in 1996 does not. The major scene that shows the madness Ophelia has descended into is in act four scene five. The two portrayals by Helen Bonham Carter and Kate Blanchett are quite different as shown by their acting of this scene. First, Bonham Carter s movements appear much more calculated than Blanchett s movements, as Blanchett primarily lies on the ground trashing out in a random manner. Bonham Carter, on the other hand, walks around the set with a purposeful stride (witchywoman4u12, 2011). Next, they also speak quite differently. Blanchett screams the majority of the speech and speaks with an inflection that speaks of unsureness. Bonham Carter speaks with a calmer tone like she knows exactly what she is saying. Lastly, when Ophelia has interactions between herself and another character like her conversations with Gertrude and Claudius, Blanchett s Ophelia appears to be unaware of her surroundings and other people initiate the conversations (Aaron Bradford, 2013). Unlike the 1996 version, Bonham Carter gets up close to people when she is talking to them, and initiates the conversations between herself and Claudius and Gertrude. This happens during Ophelia s lines, Where is the beauteous majesty of Denmark...How should I your true love know From another one? • 22. Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel Alison Bechdel, a literary and queer theorist herself who would go on to coin the Bechdel test, grew up in close proximity to theory. In a family of academics, with her teacher father and former actress mother, Bechdel was always surrounded by literature, so when it comes to self discovery of her sexuality, it s no surprise that she turns to the literary realm, from Rubyfruit Jungle to the Oxford English Dictionary, to understand herself. Bechdel s first graphic memoir, Fun Home, examines her upbringing in a funeral home with her cold mother and her closeted bisexual father, who commits suicide soon after Bechdel leaves for college. It engages in frequent literary and theory illusions, beginning from the mention of Icarian Games on the very first page. While Bechdel s work seems like it could be easily situated in structuralist theory, the work easily lends itself to a multiplicity of meanings, an inherent feature of deconstructionwork that allows readers to veer into feminist theory, queer theory, or even Marxist theory. Just as Bechdel rewrites and reframes the events of her formative years multiple times throughout the novel, the novel particularly lends itself to structuralist, deconstruction, queer, and feminist theory, which all lead to particularly illuminating readings that compliment each other. Fun Home perhaps most glaringly fits into the literary theory of structuralism, and its application becomes easy as soon Bechdel introduces the readers to her father s constant rebuilding of their home on page 5. One of structuralism s main tenants is understanding the world as discursively constructed, meaning that there is no inherent essence or nature that informs one s production, whether that be behavior or presentation or style, and that one then understands the world through binary opposition and discourse (Parker 77 81). Bechdel s father produces a perfected period piece facade for the Bechdel home, which simultaneously indulged his obsessive love for home decor, an interest usually only allowed for homosexual men, while providing the facade of an idealized happy homeplace. Analyzing the home s surface structure would prove unfruitful for conveying any of the internalized conflict of the family, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bourdieu claimed that capital forms the foundation of social life. Bourdieu thinks the more capital a person have, the more powerful they will be, and Marx had the same view as well. Through burning the pictures and letters from a loved one, to seeing a friend s remains in a tree, and carrying on despite witnessing a friend die, right before him, O Brien allows the reader to witness the true courage needed to be a soldier. Being courageous is what holds these men together and makes every one of these stories string together and relate to one another. Much like soldiers, these stories build each other up and amplify their effects together. Tim O Brien represents how people coming from different places experience the same need to be courageous during a time of war in the fiction novel The Things They Carriedby Tim O Brien. Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carries courage. Unseemingly so, giving up someone he loves makes him the most courageous character in The Things They Carried. Martha, the woman whom he loves, is the most important thing back home, to him. He would imagine romantic camping trips into the White Mountains in New Hampshire. He would sometimes taste the envelope flaps, knowing he tongue had been there. (1). Jefferson DBQ In the history of America, Thomas Jefferson, the Secretary of State, and Hamilton, the Secretary of the Treasury, were two of the greatest leaders of our country. Although they both lead the country, that s where the similarities end as they had opposing views on everything. Jefferson was a republican while Hamilton was a federalist. Jefferson had been opposed to all of Hamilton s ideas, such as his financial plan, his interpretation of the powers of the government, his foreign policy, and his vision for the future of America. The second reason he interpreted the constitution this way was because if the Constitution were to be interpreted loosely, it would pose a threat towards Slavery. Jefferson had supported slavery, and did not want the government to be able to gain more power through the clause, and in the long run, eventually ending slavery in America. The final reason Jefferson opposed Hamilton s interpretation was because Hamilton was using his loose interpretation to his advantage, creating a bank to further push his financial plan into motion, which was the exact opposite of what Jefferson wanted as it went against all of his beliefs. Jefferson was trying to stop Hamilton s plan, and one way was to stop the abuse of the Necessary and Proper clause. Furthermore, Jefferson was against Hamilton s foreign policy. Hamilton was considered to be Pro British while Jefferson was Pro France. During this time, France and Britain were at war fighting against each other. • 35. Masculine Ideas Of Power In The Bostonians And King... Masculine ideas of power vary between characters and how they treat those around them. Power usage in this sense is exercised in Henry James s The Bostonians and Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court. The two main male characters in these novels both have a need to control others. From the time periods they are set and live in, menwere in charge of most things, so this is seen many times. Comparing James s and Twain s ideas of this, though, are shown most in Basil Ransom and Hank Morgan. Basil, reigning from the Confederate South, has the urge to have power of Verena and what she does with her own life. Hank uses his power skills to control an entire community of people in a period of time that is not his own. Both men see themselves as Gods , in a sense, over others from their beliefs in their own power from their uses of their voices, opinions, and appearances. Power has many definitions and a very long etymological history. However, the most common is listed in the Oxford English Dictionary as the, Capacity to direct or influence the behavior of others; personal or social influence, (Power, n.1 ). The shingles immunization is now recommended for people sixty years and older to offset contracting the shingles virus. (Chavez, Santibanez, Gargiullo, Guris, 2007) Chickenpox is seasonal infectious disease, and usually has an uptick of incidence in the late winter and early spring. For the most part, chicken pox is a childhood disease, accounting for greater than 90% of incidences occurring in kids less than ten years of age. It is typically nonthreatening in a healthy child, with a morbidity in immune compromised patients and adults. The agent factor is the presence of the virus, Varicella zoster, in the epidemiologic triangle. The host factor would include mostly children less than fifteen years of age, but anyone who has not had chickenpox would be vulnerable to contract the disease. The focus of the constitutional meetings were not to create a newer better Japan, but to create an image of the United States in the Pacific Ocean. The first part provides a summary view of the shareholder wealth maximization approach, which we call the traditional finance paradigm. This is followed by a review of the current research and the salient parts of the stakeholder theory. The following section presents a summary of the critique of the stakeholder theory by two of the most eminent and perhaps the strongest critics of the theory, Michael Jensen (2001) and Elaine Sternberg (1999). Mr Leibniz, Philosopher And Philosopher Forgive me, sir, but I must point out that when you contend that there is nothing in the soul of which it is not aware, you are begging the question ... it is impossible that we should always reflect explicitly on all our thoughts; for if we did, the mind would reflect on each reflection, ad infinitum, without ever being able to move on to a new thought. For example, in being aware of some present feeling, I should have always to think that I think about that feeling, and further to think that I think of thinking about it, and so on ad infinitum. It must be that I stop reflecting on all these reflections, and that eventually some thought is allowed to occur without being thought about; otherwise I would dwell for ever on the same thing. Therefore, it may be the case that the soul is indeed in perpetual motion. This site is made for people to meet and find each other, listen to music, play games, write blogs and bulletins, and put up pictures within reason. When used properly, nothing bad can happen. MySpace isn t bad for people under 18 as long as you can be smart about what you put on your MySpace and not give out too much of your information, and be careful with whom you talk to. MySpace can also be very beneficial in multiple ways. For example, if you miss a day at school and you need to get homework you can always ask a friend over MySpace what the homework assignment was or, your teacher can have a MySpace and she or he can post the assignment on MySpace that way every student knows what the assignment is another example on how MySpace can be beneficial to people. If you were like me when you heard about twitter, you probably thought it was pointless. I remember thinking what can it do that facebook or MySpace can t? It just seemed like another social media website to waste time on. I don t know about you, but I waste too much time already on facebook. I assumed it was just like all the other social media websites that have come before it. Hearing of so many celebrities using it made me wonder what exactly the benefits of twitter are. Twitter lets you share information with people through short messages called tweets. Anyone can read what you have to say by following you, or by viewing your profile. At first ... • 55. Mommy Moments Research Paper I have a lot of proud mommy moments, but one of the most recent moments is when my oldest daughter, Brianna joined the Army. When Brianna graduated high school, she really didn t know what to do with her life. She has always been very interested in working on vehicles, but she has also been interested in coaching basketball and becoming an Athletic Director. She thought that being a mechanic would just be a hobby and would just go to college, since that is what all of her friends were doing. That fall she started college at CSC and was doing very good. She knew something was missing from her life and just wasn t as interested in college as she thought she would be. She started to party and go to class less and less. Then, that Christmas break... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was so hot and humid, then it started raining. When it rained in South Carolina, it s not the same as when it rains in Nebraska. It s hard to explain the rain there, kind of a warm rain that would come and go all day long. The bleachers were almost full, but we still got really good seats. For about an hour everyone just sat there looking at an open field with a bunch of trees in the distance. Everyone kept looking around to see where all of the soldiers were, but there were a few drill sergeants walking around and that was it. My son Cole said, oh great mom, we re at the wrong place . Then, all of a sudden there were different colored smoke bombs being launched from the trees in the distance and over the loud speakers they were playing Toby Keith s song, Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue. When we looked out into the once completely field there was just various colored smoke everywhere. Then all of a sudden, the drill sergeants started to run towards the trees (I m assuming, it was hard to see with all of the smoke). The smoke started to die down and we could see hundreds of soldiers running toward us. There were so many of them, it was impossible to find Brianna in the sea of camouflage. Everyone was clapping and cheering, then I look over at my other daughter, Alli and she was just bawling. I said, what s wrong ? and she said, I don t see Brianna . Then my smarty pants son Cole ... • 56. Secondary School Vs. Vocational Education Although most secondary school systems maintain a distinction between academic and vocational education, to vocationalize or not to vocationalize the secondary school has been a persistent question in many educational systems, especially in developing countries (Holsinger Cowell, 2000; Lauglo Maclean, 2006; Psacharopoulos, 1987). On the one hand, from a developmental perspective, the advocates of vocational secondary educationperceive it as a way to develop human capital for economic development and provide students with better chances to compete in the labour market (Brunello Checci, 2007; Gallart, 2001; Meer, 2007; Miranda, 2005; Shavit Muller, 2000). On the other hand, the stratification of educational systems between a higher curriculum (general secondary school) and a lower curriculum (vocational secondary school) has been deemed to be a source of inequality in the distribution of education opportunities (Kerckhoff, 2001). Students in the vocational schools typically come from low socio economic strata (LarraГ±aga, Cabezas, Dussaillant, 2014; Psacharopoulos Loxley, 1985). At the same time, studies show that vocational secondary schools may prevent low income students from further training beyond secondary educationbecause they do not develop the skills required for tertiary education(Brunello Checci, 2007; FarГas Carrasco, 2012; Holm, Meier, Bernt Karlson, Reimer, 2013; Malamud Pop Eleches, 2008; Shavit Muller, 2000). In addition, scholars ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
