1979 Education
Education policy has developed in the UK since the Thatcher period because when Margaret Thatcher
became Prime Minister, the governance of education was largely unchanged since the first world war.
In schools, there was no national curriculum, no parental choice, no systematic means of monitoring
performance, no publication of examination results beyond what schools themselves chose to reveal.
Local authorities drew up catchment areas, and they decided which children went to which school, and
distributed funds, specifying what should be spent on teachers salaries, repairs, books and other items.
(Wilby, 2013)
But, in the UK during the Thatcher period, there were many education policies that were introduced.
These include; 1979 Education Act, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both have a national curriculum and students have to adhere to uniform in both countries.
Education is compulsory in both countries, although the age at which they have to attend is different.
Also, students have to pass examination(s) in both the UK and India to get into higher education. The
differences are the quality in the education provided. In India, due to mass amount of students and the
lack of funds then students have to be taught in large classrooms where students cannot generally get
the support if they need it, but in the UK they only have class sizes of 30 or less and this ensures
students can get the support if they need it, and staff are aware if a student is

Explain The Arguments For The Use Of The Term Renaissance
The argument for the use of the term Renaissance is made by defining the Renaissance as a global
expansion of the western world as a whole. Jerry Brotton uses many different portraits and literature,
to make the assumption that the Renaissance was much bigger than just Western Europe. The
difference in this argument are the advancements in technology and ideals in Western Europe that
changed the world. The most significant invention for communication perhaps of all of time would be
the printing press. The printing press came about in 1450s, due to the collaboration of Johann Fust,
Johann Gutenburg, and Peter Schöffer. The printing press was revolutionary at this time sparking
literacy and giving people a voice. Brotton mentions how by

Franchising Subway Essay
Franchising Subway Franchising has attracted some 34,000 people in the UK to invest in their future
in self employment. Here are 15 reasons why franchises offer an attractive business opportunity. 1.
Established brand value. Prior to launching a franchise, the franchisor has developed and established
attractive and meaningful branding for the operation, and as the network of franchisees expands the
national recognition of this brand grows. When a franchisee enters into a mature franchisee network,
they will benefit from the national name recognition the brand has built when it comes to their own
marketing initiatives, while even new launch franchises have invested in professionally designed and
intellectually protected branding to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The franchisee can enter into self employment confident that they are well prepared to tackle the
challenge ahead. 6. Established profit margins. Setting price levels to balance between
competitiveness and profitability is a complicated process, often involving some trial and error that
can prolong the development period of the franchisees business before break even. The franchisor will
be able to help franchisees set the right pricing levels from day one to ensure they are not under or
over quoting, maximising the profits their business generates. 7. Recommended suppliers or direct
supply. The franchisor will be able to offer assistance in sourcing the products and services that
franchisees will require to operate their business, and in some cases will even act as the franchisees
main supplier. 8. Ongoing training. Whether the franchisees initial training is one week or two months,
they won t be expected to absorb everything immediately. Many franchisors stagger their initial
training to help franchisees learn while they are on the job . This commitment to ongoing training also
enables established franchisees to benefit from improvements in the franchisor s training provision,
and eases the introduction of new products or services to the business. 9. Continual support. Having

Personal Bias In Research
Facts are statements that are indisputably true. Truthful statements are authentic because they are
widely accepted to be accurate and fit reality. When answering the question given access to the same
facts , how is it possible that there can be disagreements between experts in a discipline? , one must
consider the definition of an expert. For the sake of this paper I am defining an expert as someone who
excels in their field , and constantly evolves their knowledge as their field progresses. I believe that
disagreements between experts when presented with the same facts, occur because of bias. Bias is a
sway towards one side or view of a situation or statement. Therefore I ask , how does someone s
personal bias affect their interpretation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faith is a complete trust in a principal or being without proof of existence. Religious experts are often
those who lead organized worship such as bishops, rabbis , imams, monks, and more. They are often
taught by programs that are created by fellow religious leaders. In these programs, the students are
taught the teachings of the religion, often based on a religious text. Religious texts are known to be
passed down, and therefore modified through the ages by those who believed that the stories should be
amended or represent something different. While a pastor of a methodist church and a preacher of a
baptist church consult the same texts, the denominations differ in interpretation. This is due to the way
each denomination or church leader presents their version of the

Human Papillomavirus ( HPV ) And Cancer Of The Ceervix
Causal Association of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Cancer of the Cervix
It is important to have a clear understanding of how the etiology of cancer of the cervix was
established which eventually enabled the development of HPV vaccines, one of the major
breakthroughs in the history of cervical cancer. For decades, the etiology of cancer of the cervix
remained unknown and there were several attempts by past scientists to establish the cause of cervical
cancer without much success. However, the earliest breakthroughs came in the 1930s while Dr.
Richard Shope of the Rockefeller University was working on wild rabbits that had developed horn ,
which upon further analysis, was caused by a virus that could be transmitted. This discovery played ...

Evidently, in the 1990s the relationship between HPV and cervical neoplasia was confirmed.54
According to Bosch et al., the 1990s produced the key results of case control and cohort studies, and
witnessed an increasing number of results on the clinical uses of HPV DNA testing in screening and
triage,55 and, as Liaw et al. (1995) noted in their case control studies, it was also becoming apparent
that those with multiple HPV infections have a higher risk of developing cancer of the cervix.53
With the changing dimension of research studies having confirmed that HPV was a necessary cause of
cervical cancer, epidemiological studies advanced to associating different strains of HPV to different
anogenital pathologies, categorizing different histological forms of cervical cancer in relation to HPV
strains and highlighting other risk factors that may play a prominent role or catalyze the carcinogesis
process. For instance, Ngelangel et al. in their hospital based case control studying the Philippines
detected HPV DNA in 93.8% case subjects with squamous cell carcinoma, 90.9% in case subjects
with adenocarcinoma/adenosquamous carcinoma as opposed to just 9.2% of control subjects.56
They observed the presence of 6 HPV types in adenocarcinoma, and 15 HPV types in squamous cell
carcinoma while noting that, apart from HPV 16 and HPV 18, HPV45 had the strongest association
with squamous cell carcinoma. The same year saw the publication of the

Comparing Byzantine And Western Culture
The two halves shared some similarities and one of them was the form of entertainment that occurred
in their culture. The Roman Empire and Byzantine cherished watching gladiator fights as well as
chariot races at the big stadiums. In Rome they watched at the coliseum while in Byzantine the
watching was done at Circus Maximus.
Both the Western and the Eastern halves considered themselves Roman s even though Eastern Rome
was greatly influenced by Greek Culture. However, the Eastern half has its headquarters in
Constantinople city and not Rome. The end of the late antiquity marked the split of the Roman Empire
into two, i.e. Western Rome and Eastern Rome. The former mainly spoke Latin while the latter spoke

Why School By Mike Rose Analysis
Beyond the Classroom Many are quick to disregard education s role outside of the classroom.
According to Mike Rose, a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it
(Rose 33). Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of education beyond the value of education
for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the purpose of going to school in terms of how
he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. By reflecting on his
personal experiences and how those gave him the tools applicable to his daily life, he emphasizes why
education should never be overlooked. Rose s use of referencing relatable experiences in a logical
manner makes his argument persuasive to the readers and he succeeds in making the readers
reconsider why education matters to them. Mike Rose s Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All
of Us effectively persuades his audience of the importance of education beyond the classroom, which
proves true in our everyday lives because the essential aspect of education is what we do with it and
how it helps develop one s personal growth. Rose elaborates on the significance of education by
reflecting on his own perspective on how that shaped his identity. His childhood gave him the
opportunity to experience the contrast between a positive learning environment and a negative one.
This also shaped him to have an evident positive outlook on education. It can be assumed that the right

Haiti Earthquake 7.0 Earthquake
A natural disaster has the capability to cause large scale damage and destruction to an area. Seismic
events have been known to alter landscapes and affect the livelihoods, health and development of
communities. No two earthquake events are the same and the level of threat posed by an earthquake
can vary due to both the human and physical factors of an area. The 2010 magnitude 7.0 earthquake
that occurred in Haiti is an example of where a natural disaster caused a previously vulnerable area to
suffer tremendous loss and debilitating socio economic impacts, to an already poverty stricken nation.
The earthquake occurred on the 12th of January 2010, a slip along the conservative boundary situated
along Haiti caused a significant earthquake with subsequent damaging aftershocks. As can be seen in

The key lessons that have been learnt from the event is that those in charge of ensuring the safety of
Haiti s citizens need to recognize the risk of their location and acknowledge the advice of
seismologists for any future seismic events. The implementation of early warning systems and the use
of SMS messaging as seen in Japan would greatly reduce the hazard of an earthquake. In addition,
environmental management is crucial for the long term survival of Haiti, strategies to reduce
deforestation and claiming back land unsuitable for housing would lead to better soil quality and less
risk of landslides and liquefaction to buildings should another event occur. However, the main lesson
to be drawn from the disaster is the need for proper construction techniques and guidelines. Education
and training to provide construction workers with enough knowledge to make future infrastructure

Neutral Gender Bathroom Controversy
It is 2016, and today s society has become a more diverse community than ever. Although more people
have become open minded there is still one issue that is considered to be controversial. The issue
among transgender people, and the creation of neutral gender bathroom. This issue has become
controversial between the transgender community and the government. The reason behind this
problem is that the transgender community in the recent years has gain momentum in being accepted
by society, but not the government. In my case, I believe that the creation of neutral gender bathroom
can bring a negative impact both psychological discomfort and physical danger to the population.
The word transgender has become a common one in today s society. Especially after an article
published by The Washington Post, where it talked about a case in Virginia, where a high school
transgender student named Gavin Grimm, sued his highschool board, alleging that the policy violated
his civils right . The article also informs that the case reached the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th

Benzene and its derivatives have been found to replace donor ligands. In this experiment one is
looking to replace the CO groups in a molybdenum complex. By refluxing the Mo(CO6) in mestylene
it is possible to produce 1,3,5 C6H3(CH3)3]Mo(CO)3. The benzene molecules replace 3 of the CO
bonds and rest parallel to the plane of the remaining CO groups. The products geometry is such that it
can be considered octahedral as opposed to tetrahedral. The carbonyl to molybdenum bonds are close
to 90 degrees instead of 109.5 which is indicative of a tetrahedral complex. Using H NMR and
infrared spectrum it is possible to analyze the product and determine its relative structure and
composition. CO stretches have unique places within the spectrum and thus can be noted. H NMR can
be used to determining the structure by comparing it to that of mestylene. Looking at these spectrum s

Otto Von Bismarck-German Unification-Nationalism
Otto von Bismarck German Unification
Nationalism and liberalism were two popular political philosophies of the late 19th century.
Nationalism is the aspiration of a people with a common language, culture and traditions to be unified.
Nationalism grew into a movement after 1815, influenced by literature, music, politics and economic
developments between the northern Germany states. By 1848, nationalism was strong among
Germans, but the course to unify German would prove to take time.
Between 1815, the end of the Napoleonic Wars, and 1850 the German states experienced a growth of
nationalism and the desire for unity. The obstacles to German unification were religious divisions,
rulers fear of losing power, and the opposition from Austria. The tension and rivalry that existed
between the two largest German states intensified and the existing religious divisions and made the
possibility of unification more difficult.
While the religious division of the Prussia Protestant and that of the dominating Austria Catholics was
an important factor, the opposition from Austria and the rulers were more important. Nationalism
became this progressively intensifying cycle that eventually climaxes into war. Many began to put
aside the idealistic ideas of society and began to embrace the realities of society as competitive and
combative. Under the calculated guidance of Otto von Bismarck, Germany would finally be on the
promising path of unification.
Plans for unification started long

Power In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Power is defined as the possession of control or command over others; authority... (Dictionary.com),
and all people have power, whether they notice it or not. Though some employ their power for
respectable reasons, often times power is not used in honorable ways. The matter of abuse of authority
is prevalent in the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck illustrates that those who
have power abuse it exceedingly often, as shown by Curley attacking countless others, including

the influence Curley can have on his father, resulting in the man whom Curley has quarrels with being

Medication errors are among the most significant cause of patient injury in all types of medical errors
(Johnson, Carlson, Tucker, amp; Willette, n.d). In the nursing profession, medication administration

The nurse must verify the physician s medication order, including the dose and time, and then the
pharmacy is responsible for their own checks and balances via the BCMA system in order to complete
the dispensing phase of the medication (Gooder, 2011). The nurse enters the BCMA system with a
login and password and is able then to see a list of the virtual due list for a specific patient. The
computer on wheels is then taken to that patient s room and the five rights of medication
administration begin. As nurses, we are taught to use the five rights of drug administration are (1) right

C Gattii Research Paper
There is a risk of C. gattii in tropical areas and the Pacific Northwest. There are many factors that
contribute to this risk. How it is transmitted, environmental causes, locations of infection, and
prevention. It is important to understand the risk before traveling so you don t become infected. To
learn more about this risk we will look at areas in which the fungi exists, who s susceptible, and how
to keep from getting sick. Cryptococcus gattii is a fungus that lives in the soil associated with certain
trees and causes the infection C. gattii Cryptococcus s. In mild climates, the fungus survives in soil
and grows in tree bark. Douglas firs carry the fungus. The fungus occurs in the top 15cm of the soil,
on trees, wood chips, mulch, and other natural reservoirs. Fungus spores are aerosolized through soil

Executive Summary On December 3, 1984, toxic poisonous methyl isocyanate gas leaked from Union
Carbide India Limited (UCIL s) pesticide plant in Bhopal. The gas leak triggered a disaster that is now
widely recognized as the world worst industrial catastrophe. Thousands of people were killed instantly
and more than 25,000 people have died of gas related illnesses, several thousands more maimed for
life since. Union Carbide negotiated a settlement with the Indian Government in 1989 for $470

McMinn (1996) draws a different conclusion in the field of counseling for the help of religion. It is
obvious that religion plays a significant role in a human being s life and including it in different
therapy sessions. Religion ties an individual to believe, principals and also commitment, and through
it there is a chance of healing for various individuals. The combination of the science study of therapy

Cecil B. Demille s The Sign Of The Cross
Cecil B. DeMille s The Sign of The Cross (1932) is not a film that can be labeled with a pro Christian
or anti Christian message. DeMille does an great job of presenting the romans and Christians in a
realistic manner for the time that movie is set in. Rather than place Christians and Christianity on a
pedestal of holiness, DeMille s depiction of the early Christians shows the audience how they were
persecuted by the Romans under the command of the Emperor Nero. The film begins with Nero
standing over the burning city of Rome yelling, Burn, Rome, Burn! Rumor spread that Nero himself
set Rome ablaze for his own amusement. To take the blame off himself, he merely declared that it was
the Christians who were responsible for the destruction that rome was undergoing. The emperor, being
the god like figure that he was, had his subjects convinced that the Christians were responsible for the

Crocodile Dundee is a movie about the story of an American reporter Sue Charlton (Linda Kozlowski)

Charlton and Paul Hogan Acts as Michael Crocodile Dundee. This movie is written by Paul Hogan,
John Cornell, and ken Shadie. It is directed by Peter Faiman. An American reporter, Sue traveled to
the northern territory to a town called walkabout creek. It is a small village where people live together
and lead their life by hunting and very simply. Michael or crocodile Dundee is a real hunter who
subdues crocodile easily. Crocodile Dundee is very friendly person in his culture who walks through
the bushes freely with confidence and pride. Crocodile Dundee is a character who rides horses and
subdue buffalos. Crocodile Dundee is representative of the Australian Bush culture. After watching
this movie, I have understood how the main character Crocodile Dundee is influenced by his
Masculinity culture and cultural competence.
Crocodile Dundee lives in a culture in which masculinity has a means of power, respect, and pride.
According to our textbook communication: interpersonal communication in a highly masculine
culture, men are valued for their aggressiveness, material success, and strength. I think the main
character crocodile Dundee s aggressiveness toward to the animals and people around him is the direct
result of the culture he lives. For example, his aggressiveness toward the people he met in a small pub,
him killing a snake without any weapon, and saving Sue from crocodile accident while she was in the
water were how he express his aggrieves and strength to survive in a masculinity culture in which
what he did result in appreciation and respect among the people he shares the same culture. Based on
our text, members of masculine cultures are more likely to confront directly and to fight out any
differences competitively think that is the main reason he instead solving problems with conversation
uses force to get what he wants. For example, he didn t take the conversation lightly when a cup driver
with the ladies talked to him rather he punched him in the face. I think

Ibm Is Generating A High Profit Essay
average of 1% IBM is generating a high profit margin to earn a greater profit.
Return on Assets:
Return on Assets (ROA) measures how profitably a company uses their assets by net income divided
by the average total assets. Assets are either tangible or intangible items the company owns. For
example, things like buildings, equipment, cash, office supplies, or accounts receivable (receiving
cash from customers on services you have performed). To find the average total assets, you use the
same idea as the return on equity method, but instead you add up all of the assets and average them,
instead of using just one account. IBM measured ROA of 13% in 2013 and 10% in 2014. In order to
know how well the company did, it s best to compare these percentages to the industry average of
1.6% to get a better idea of where they stand. In this case, IBM produces more profit for every $1,
than the industry average. Even though there may have been a slight decline, IBM is still currently
producing well above.
Profitability Conclusion: IBM was well above the industry average for all of the profitability ratios
with given industry averages. Although the company was successful in this category it doesn t mean
the company is successful as a whole. There are other groups to consider before making a final
judgement on how well IBM s performance is. Stockholder/Investor Relations: Stockholder s purchase
stock in a company in hopes of earning revenue once they decide to sell the stock. There

Analysis Of The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
A man and a boy trudge along the road in a desolate, crumbling world. Everything that once was has
diminished, and hope for the future is bleak. All that s left to do in this dystopian world is to survive.
Cormac McCarthy s The Road, follows the journey of a father and son clinging to life after a series of
catastrophic events. Together they must salvage any remaining food and other necessities they need to
sustain themselves. Day in day out, the pair trek down the road, hoping to reach the sea and find some
beacon of life. However, their slim hopes vanquish when they reach their destination and find nothing
but traces of death and destruction. The Man and The Boy continue their aimless journey along the
road, emaciated and barely alive, but still unwilling to give up on life. McCarthy stripes down all the
traditional elements of literature and forms a simplistic novel, leaving the story naked, just like the
setting in his post apocalyptic, The Road. Despite numerous scholars who insist Cormac McCarthy s
pen richly doused The Road with symbolism and metaphors, McCarthy straightforwardly intended his
novel to simply be a story about a man and a boy traveling along a road. In fact, McCarthy carefully
constructed his novel in a bare, stripped down form to ...mirror the world it describes (Hobby). With
special attention to detail, Cormac McCarthy rebirthed the traditional novel and gave life to a creation
of his own. Despite over analyzers of The Road, his intentions were not to develop a probing novel,
but to take elaborate techniques and form a simple story. In a 2007 Book Club interview with Oprah
Winfrey, McCarthy disclosed, Oh it s just a boy and a man on the road. You can obviously draw
conclusions...depending on your taste. It s a pretty simple story I think (Lincoln 163).
In The Road, McCarthy utilizes basic sentence structure and phrasing to emphasize the simplicity of
the novel. Not only does he rely on his uncomplex style, but the use of fragmented sentences as well.
One example of the novel s plethora of fragments is, The segments of road down there among the
dead trees. Looking for anything of color. Any movement. Any trace of standing smoke (McCarthy 4).

Lather Song Analysis
Lather is song written by Grace Slick and performed by the psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane.
Its unusual theme and peculiar, folky sound are its most notable features. At a glance, the song is
about a man called Lather who is turning thirty, although he refuses to mature from his simple minded
and young at heart ways. Grace Slick revealed that the song was mean to poke fun at the thirtieth
birthday of the drummer of the band, Spender Dryden, who was the oldest member but most child like
in personality. Whether the meaning of the song is meant to be casual and comical, or an uncommon
perspective on a naïve man refusing to mature, it is still a very creative and somewhat bittersweet
piece. Slick says that Lather was thirty years old today, they took away all of his toys. The toys that
she is referring to could be either literal or figurative given Lather s childish, and unsophisticated
nature. Grace says that lather prefers to draw pictures of mountains that look like bumps and lie about
nude in the sand which is unusual, but striking imagery for the audience to imagine this
unsophisticated man child who enjoys thrashing the air with his hands Slick also refers to Lather as
baby wide and so nameless, that he hardly knows which game to play, which words to say, which
further displays his innocence and foolishness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gratitude In The Book Thank ! By Robert Emmons
Gratitude doesn t always come naturally. In our day to day lives, it s easy to get caught up in the things
that go wrong and feel like we re living under our own private rain cloud: at the same time, we tend to
adapt to good things and people in our lives. Taking them for granted. As a result. We often overlook
everyday beauty and goodness a kind gesture from a stranger, say hi or hello. In Thanks! Robert
Emmons teaches us about the power of showing gratitude, of exposing our many blessing. He also
shares the challenges that we can face in being able to show gratitude, especially in times of suffering
and hardship. However, showing gratitude benefit us in many ways: we become healthier and happier,
have better relationship, treat other better.

The Responsibility Of Child Soldiers
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall
have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their
jurisdiction. are words from the Thirteenth Amendment that was passed in 1865. However, is still
untrue around the world. One issue that is violating this amendment is child soldiers. Child soldiers
are a horrifying issue around the world that put the lives of many children at risk. One reason child
soldiers are such a huge problem is because they are forced to take part in many life threatening
conflicts. Another reason is because the children are brainwashed to do as the army tells them to.
To start, child soldiers are human rights concern because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

loyal and ferocious than adults. (Macleans 1) However, when getting the children to follow orders,
they are injured and stripped of their normal lives and made to believe what the armies want them to
think. Many times, they suffer from psychological damage and if brought back to their families, they
can be very violent. (Telegraph 1) Having these soldiers are wrong since while they are still
developing, they are fed wrong information and have their lives changed. To conclude, children may
be perfect for the job of a soldier, but the way they are treated is inhuman and children should not be
fighting adults battles. The use of child soldiers is an atrocious violation of the human rights. One
topic is that child soldiers are forced into extreme situations. The first reason is because they have to
fight in hazardous places. The second reason is because they have their thoughts manipulated while at

Rhetorical Criticism
Rhetorical Criticism: Exam
Question One
Rhetorical criticism allows for people to further understand signs and symbols in today s world.
Specifically, the understanding of the relationships that an audience connects with certain signs and
symbols. This is where persuasion comes into play. Signs and symbols are used to persuade people
everyday, meaning advertisements, large companies, and other institutions, use signs and symbols to
persuade their audience. Many people associate specific signs and symbols with different ideas. An
example would be that a baby symbolizes life for some people, while on the other hand a baby could
represent the future for someone else. As stated in one of the first lectures by Stephanie Hartzell

The traditional method holds the explanation and evaluation close to the core when critiquing,
whereas the narrative method is deemed as looser when using explanation and evaluation. When
applying the narrative method, the evaluation of the source plays on two elements, the narrative
possibility and fidelity. The former touches on the story being realistic and the components of the
story making sense, or in other words adding up. The latter allows the critic to analyze and figure out
if the story is true due to other stories and personal experiences. These elements also allow the critic to
discover the credibility of the source or author of the message. Through this evaluation is when the
narrative method displays if the narrative given achieves the function of persuasion. On the other
hand, when applying the traditional perspective, the evaluation centers on analyzing the message for
how well it was put together considering the audience and context, and the understanding of the
source, for credibility. All of these components are considered the explanation of the rhetorical
features of the text, and lead to whether or not the persuasive goal was reached. The ideas of source
credibility, and the end goal of persuading the audience are huge similarities between the two
methods. Differences

The Causes of Deforestation in the Amazon Rain Forest Essay
The Causes of Deforestation in the Amazon Rain Forest
The Amazon Rain Forest crosses several national boundaries in South America, although the majority
of it is located in Brazil. It covers over 3,562,000 acres, making it the largest in the world. But
globally, over 138,600 acres of rain forest are lost each year to deforestation, 50,000 of those in Brazil
alone (Holdsforth), and the world s rain forests are quickly disappearing. Deforestation in the Amazon
occurs primarily for three reasons: clear cutting, fragmentation, and edge effects.
The term deforestation refers to the clear cutting of large sections of primary or original growth forest,
which causes the loss of native species of plant and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The breaking up of the rain forest therefore prevents species from moving between natural areas,
further weakening them. Logging additionally encourages fragmentation. Lucia Johns and Fredia
Simms of the Congressional Research Service point out that roads built by loggers are used by farmers
and ranchers who clear cut portions of the forest.
As those roads are built and pockets of deforested areas spread, edge effects occur which reduce
diversity and threaten the rain forest even more. Edge effects spread out from any deforested area,
such as a farm or a road, for a distance of one kilometer into the forest, and they allow weather and
non native species easy access to the borders of the forest. Imagine the Amazon Rain Forest as a large,
integrated area. It shelters native species from the outside world, providing them with food and
protection from the elements. These species, in turn, feed the rain forest, littering the forest floor with
droppings and decay to feed the trees and undergrowth. Flowers are pollinated, so that plant species
survive. Edge effects impede this process. The Center for Planetary Studies describes the effect of a
major highway being cut through the center of the Amazon Rain Forest in the Brazilian state of
Rondonia as a fishbone pattern of deforestation. This network of small access roads allows hunters
and non native animals and predators access to a much larger portion

The two Cheyenne groups were known as autonomous which means each tribe has its own
government, laws, policies, and services, just like a small country. However, the southern Cheyenne

phrase: My brides breath soured, stank, with the use of sensory imagery demonstrating how a slight
suspicion has taken hold of the voice. Moreover, this build up and outpour of the slight suspicion and
emotion over the poem suggests that the voice has succumbed to and has allowed herself

In schools, there was no national curriculum, no parental choice, no systematic means of monitoring performance, no publication of examination results beyond what schools themselves chose to reveal. Local authorities drew up catchment areas, and they decided which children went to which school, and distributed funds, specifying what should be spent on teachers salaries, repairs, books and other items. Here are 15 reasons why franchises offer an attractive business opportunity. 1. Established brand value. Prior to launching a franchise, the franchisor has developed and established attractive and meaningful branding for the operation, and as the network of franchisees expands the national recognition of this brand grows. When answering the question given access to the same facts , how is it possible that there can be disagreements between experts in a discipline? , one must consider the definition of an expert. For the sake of this paper I am defining an expert as someone who excels in their field , and constantly evolves their knowledge as their field progresses. (1995) noted in their case control studies, it was also becoming apparent that those with multiple HPV infections have a higher risk of developing cancer of the cervix.53 With the changing dimension of research studies having confirmed that HPV was a necessary cause of cervical cancer, epidemiological studies advanced to associating different strains of HPV to different anogenital pathologies, categorizing different histological forms of cervical cancer in relation to HPV strains and highlighting other risk factors that may play a prominent role or catalyze the carcinogesis process. For instance, Ngelangel et al. in their hospital based case control studying the Philippines detected HPV DNA in 93.8% case subjects with squamous cell carcinoma, 90.9% in case subjects with adenocarcinoma/adenosquamous carcinoma as opposed to just 9.2% of control subjects.56 They observed the presence of 6 HPV types in adenocarcinoma, and 15 HPV types in squamous cell carcinoma while noting that, apart from HPV 16 and HPV 18, HPV45 had the strongest association with squamous cell carcinoma. According to Mike Rose, a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it (Rose 33). Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of education beyond the value of education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the purpose of going to school in terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. By reflecting on his personal experiences and how those gave him the tools applicable to his daily life, he emphasizes why education should never be overlooked. Rose s use of referencing relatable experiences in a logical manner makes his argument persuasive to the readers and he succeeds in making the readers reconsider why education matters to them. Mike Rose s Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All of Us effectively persuades his audience of the importance of education beyond the classroom, which proves true in our everyday lives because the essential aspect of education is what we do with it and how it helps develop one s personal growth. Rose elaborates on the significance of education by reflecting on his own perspective on how that shaped his identity. His childhood gave him the opportunity to experience the contrast between a positive learning environment and a negative one. This also shaped him to have an evident positive outlook on education. Nationalism is the aspiration of a people with a common language, culture and traditions to be unified. Nationalism grew into a movement after 1815, influenced by literature, music, politics and economic developments between the northern Germany states. By 1848, nationalism was strong among Germans, but the course to unify German would prove to take time. Between 1815, the end of the Napoleonic Wars, and 1850 the German states experienced a growth of nationalism and the desire for unity. The obstacles to German unification were religious divisions, rulers fear of losing power, and the opposition from Austria. The tension and rivalry that existed between the two largest German states intensified and the existing religious divisions and made the possibility of unification more difficult. While the religious division of the Prussia Protestant and that of the dominating Austria Catholics was an important factor, the opposition from Austria and the rulers were more important. Nationalism became this progressively intensifying cycle that eventually climaxes into war. DeMille does an great job of presenting the romans and Christians in a realistic manner for the time that movie is set in. Rather than place Christians and Christianity on a pedestal of holiness, DeMille s depiction of the early Christians shows the audience how they were persecuted by the Romans under the command of the Emperor Nero. The film begins with Nero standing over the burning city of Rome yelling, Burn, Rome, Burn! Rumor spread that Nero himself set Rome ablaze for his own amusement. To take the blame off himself, he merely declared that it was the Christians who were responsible for the destruction that rome was undergoing. The emperor, being the god like figure that he was, had his subjects convinced that the Christians were responsible for the Great Fire. In this movie, Linda Kozlowski acts as Sue Charlton and Paul Hogan Acts as Michael Crocodile Dundee. This movie is written by Paul Hogan, John Cornell, and ken Shadie. It is directed by Peter Faiman. An American reporter, Sue traveled to the northern territory to a town called walkabout creek. It is a small village where people live together and lead their life by hunting and very simply. Crocodile Dundee is a character who rides horses and subdue buffalos. Crocodile Dundee is representative of the Australian Bush culture. After watching this movie, I have understood how the main character Crocodile Dundee is influenced by his Masculinity culture and cultural competence. Crocodile Dundee lives in a culture in which masculinity has a means of power, respect, and pride. According to our textbook communication: interpersonal communication in a highly masculine culture, men are valued for their aggressiveness, material success, and strength. I think the main character crocodile Dundee s aggressiveness toward to the animals and people around him is the direct result of the culture he lives. For example, his aggressiveness toward the people he met in a small pub, him killing a snake without any weapon, and saving Sue from crocodile accident while she was in the water were how he express his aggrieves and strength to survive in a masculinity culture in which what he did result in appreciation and respect among the people he shares the same culture. Based on our text, members of masculine cultures are more likely to confront directly and to fight out any differences competitively think that is the main reason he instead solving problems with conversation uses force to get what he wants. • 34. Ibm Is Generating A High Profit Essay average of 1% IBM is generating a high profit margin to earn a greater profit. Return on Assets: Return on Assets (ROA) measures how profitably a company uses their assets by net income divided by the average total assets. Assets are either tangible or intangible items the company owns. For example, things like buildings, equipment, cash, office supplies, or accounts receivable (receiving cash from customers on services you have performed). To find the average total assets, you use the same idea as the return on equity method, but instead you add up all of the assets and average them, instead of using just one account. IBM measured ROA of 13% in 2013 and 10% in 2014. In order to know how well the company did, it s best to compare these percentages to the industry average of 1.6% to get a better idea of where they stand. In this case, IBM produces more profit for every $1, than the industry average. Even though there may have been a slight decline, IBM is still currently producing well above. Profitability Conclusion: IBM was well above the industry average for all of the profitability ratios with given industry averages. Although the company was successful in this category it doesn t mean the company is successful as a whole. • 35. Analysis Of The Road By Cormac Mccarthy A man and a boy trudge along the road in a desolate, crumbling world. Everything that once was has diminished, and hope for the future is bleak. All that s left to do in this dystopian world is to survive. Cormac McCarthy s The Road, follows the journey of a father and son clinging to life after a series of catastrophic events. Together they must salvage any remaining food and other necessities they need to sustain themselves. Day in day out, the pair trek down the road, hoping to reach the sea and find some beacon of life. However, their slim hopes vanquish when they reach their destination and find nothing but traces of death and destruction. The Man and The Boy continue their aimless journey along the road, emaciated and barely alive, but still unwilling to give up on life. McCarthy stripes down all the traditional elements of literature and forms a simplistic novel, leaving the story naked, just like the setting in his post apocalyptic, The Road. Despite numerous scholars who insist Cormac McCarthy s pen richly doused The Road with symbolism and metaphors, McCarthy straightforwardly intended his novel to simply be a story about a man and a boy traveling along a road. In fact, McCarthy carefully constructed his novel in a bare, stripped down form to ...mirror the world it describes (Hobby). With special attention to detail, Cormac McCarthy rebirthed the traditional novel and gave life to a creation of his own. Despite over analyzers of The Road, his intentions were not to develop a probing novel, but to take elaborate techniques and form a simple story. In a 2007 Book Club interview with Oprah Winfrey, McCarthy disclosed, Oh it s just a boy and a man on the road. You can obviously draw conclusions...depending on your taste. It s a pretty simple story I think (Lincoln 163). In The Road, McCarthy utilizes basic sentence structure and phrasing to emphasize the simplicity of the novel. Not only does he rely on his uncomplex style, but the use of fragmented sentences as well. One example of the novel s plethora of fragments is, The segments of road down there among the dead trees. Its unusual theme and peculiar, folky sound are its most notable features. At a glance, the song is about a man called Lather who is turning thirty, although he refuses to mature from his simple minded and young at heart ways. Grace Slick revealed that the song was mean to poke fun at the thirtieth birthday of the drummer of the band, Spender Dryden, who was the oldest member but most child like in personality. Whether the meaning of the song is meant to be casual and comical, or an uncommon perspective on a naïve man refusing to mature, it is still a very creative and somewhat bittersweet piece. Slick says that Lather was thirty years old today, they took away all of his toys. The toys that she is referring to could be either literal or figurative given Lather s childish, and unsophisticated nature. Grace says that lather prefers to draw pictures of mountains that look like bumps and lie about nude in the sand which is unusual, but striking imagery for the audience to imagine this unsophisticated man child who enjoys thrashing the air with his hands Slick also refers to Lather as baby wide and so nameless, that he hardly knows which game to play, which words to say, which further displays his innocence and foolishness. ... The traditional method holds the explanation and evaluation close to the core when critiquing, whereas the narrative method is deemed as looser when using explanation and evaluation. When applying the narrative method, the evaluation of the source plays on two elements, the narrative possibility and fidelity. The former touches on the story being realistic and the components of the story making sense, or in other words adding up. The latter allows the critic to analyze and figure out if the story is true due to other stories and personal experiences. These elements also allow the critic to discover the credibility of the source or author of the message. Through this evaluation is when the narrative method displays if the narrative given achieves the function of persuasion. But globally, over 138,600 acres of rain forest are lost each year to deforestation, 50,000 of those in Brazil alone (Holdsforth), and the world s rain forests are quickly disappearing. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The breaking up of the rain forest therefore prevents species from moving between natural areas, further weakening them. Logging additionally encourages fragmentation. Lucia Johns and Fredia Simms of the Congressional Research Service point out that roads built by loggers are used by farmers and ranchers who clear cut portions of the forest. As those roads are built and pockets of deforested areas spread, edge effects occur which reduce diversity and threaten the rain forest even more. Edge effects spread out from any deforested area, such as a farm or a road, for a distance of one kilometer into the forest, and they allow weather and non native species easy access to the borders of the forest. Imagine the Amazon Rain Forest as a large, integrated area. It shelters native species from the outside world, providing them with food and protection from the elements. These species, in turn, feed the rain forest, littering the forest floor with droppings and decay to feed the trees and undergrowth. Flowers are pollinated, so that plant species survive. Edge effects impede this process. The Center for Planetary Studies describes the effect of a major highway being cut through the center of the Amazon Rain Forest in the Brazilian state of Rondonia as a fishbone pattern of deforestation. This network of small access roads allows hunters and non native animals and predators access to a much larger portion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explore this theme, referring to these three poems in detail and by referencing at least three other poems from your wider reading. The potent emotion of jealous love permeates throughout both Robert Browning s My Last Duchess and Carol Ann Duffy s Medusa. Jealous love forms a central concern of the poets, with each one focusing on different aspects, which the reader may come to identify the poems as exploring the intensity of human emotion. The themes of both poems show the complete mental consumption of the voice s. Their pre dominative behaviour appears to emerge from perverted good values. The paranoid voice of a woman, angered with her supposed cheating husband runs throughout the duration of Medusa, seeming to grow in anger as it meets every line.
