Hook Days
The Cap and Hook Days Are Over!
Bronde! Babylights! Balayage! Ah, the joys of the ever evolving hair colors, techniques and their
names! Inevitably, some will catch on and become worldwide salon staples, while others will be
sneered at and end up in a magazine as last years hair don ts. Years ago, the common hairstyle was
heavily teased and sprayed with monochromatic colors from roots thru ends. Now, with a growing
number of color lines and an unbridled imagination, haircolor techniques are exploding as stylists and
colorists set fire to their creativity! Todays Chef s experiment with time tested recipes in the kitchen ~
adding a pinch of this, subtracting an ounce of that ~ taking off their aprons and getting themselves
dirty in the process. Colorists are the same and the salon lab is their kitchen. Every time I pick up a
hair magazine I m impressed with the innovative direction the Beauty Industry is heading. A trend
wouldn t happen if salon professionals didn t ride its wave.

Remittance In Haiti
Remittance occurs when an expatriate sends funds to their country of origin. It provides an outside
source of income for the country while forcing citizens to look for jobs outside of these
underdeveloped nations. Investopedia mentions the importance of this to the economic development
of countries by stating that in 2014 $583 billion in USD was transferred between countries, $436
Billion in USD was transferred was received by developing countries (Investopedia, 2005). This fact
demonstrates how the emergence of remittance with globalization has opened up developing countries
to new economic opportunities. Haiti has become a key example of how a country has become reliable
on this form of economic contribution. According to a 2010 report ... Show more content on

The migrants are desperate for work and finances, thus making them susceptible to the exploitation.
The extremely low wages and inhumane working environment are accepted because of the desperation
of the workers. According to a report by the Migration Policy Institute Haitian immigrants were as
likely to live in poverty (i.e., with incomes below 100 percent of the federal poverty level) (Batalova
Nwosu, 2014). The inability of these workers to voice against their pay or treatment result in the
common exploitation of their labor. As seen in the Migration Policy Institute s statement where
Haitian immigrants earn incomes below 100 percent of the federal poverty rate in the United States.
These remitters are living and working in an exploitative environment whereas they are forced to work
and earn in an inhumane manner. The main driving force to these jobs is the lack of opportunity in

Education s Role in Trinidad and Tobago Essay
Education and schooling has always played a pivotal role in the development of societies the world
over and specifically in the context of Trinidad and Tobago. Education and schooling in this country
as in any other is an investment in citizens that will reap benefits for all through research and
innovation, physical and social mobility, improved opportunities and health. Though the exam driven
nature of our system makes it different from North America (Lochan 2005), education remains the
means through which we can demonstrate how, as a people we are dependent on each other as we
attempt to build communities in which we can live harmoniously despite our cultural differences. This

their own category rather than would the nation as a whole Nasser Mustapha (2007 p.85). The
implications for citizenship rest in education and schooling. We tend to show greater appreciation for
the homeland off our ancestors. It is Mustafa [2007] who states that colonialism and the advent of a
plantation system has influenced the development of culture and identity in this Caribbean society.
Carl Campbell (1997) posits that we inherited an English model of education which highlighted its
values and habits.
The pre independence era was characterized by the predominance off the imperialist s values, attitudes
and mores. Independence however brought with it a struggle for the development our own free state
and a sense off identity. The implication here focuses around governing ourselves, developing laws,
choosing representatives and leaders who are expected to lead us to a new horizon but this relies on
the development of education and schooling which has been resilient and has survived all efforts at
change (Trinidad Express, 2002. 13). We need to rely on our own resources and not entertain the belief
that what is foreign is better. Trinidad can be considered a developing nation based on the history of its
diverse cosmopolitan people who over the years have been formed, reformed and transformed into

Myers and Briggs Personality Tests Essay
Myers and Briggs Analysis The Myers and Briggs Analysis is a series of questions that when
answered are examined and grouped together in order to determine the personalities of those taking
this test. This particular test can result in sixteen different outcomes or types of personalities, which is
determined by four different categories that judge if you are introverted or extroverted, use your
senses or your intuition, your choice to think or use your feelings, and finally if you are judgmental or
perceptive. These series of questions are designed to judge our personalities and help us to determine
which career pathways we will be most suited for based on our personality traits and abilities to work
well with others, which is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do find my values to be important to me, but I am not one to push my values onto others because I
would never ask someone to believe in or do something they did not agree with. Overall this analysis
of my personality seems to be pretty accurate with a few traits from the ISFP category as well. Myers
and Briggs created a personality test that not only will help people to figure out their personality types,
but at the same time it aids in the discovery of which career pathways people should take based on
their specific personality traits. Based on the personality trait INFP that was given to me from the
Myer Briggs test I have quite a few career pathways that fit my personality. Some of the career
choices suited to my personality is a writer, counselor, teacher/professor, psychologist, psychiatrist,
musician, or a religious worker; which seems like a pretty broad selection. Although there is a broad
selection of careers that would suit my personality none of which are the career path that I have
chosen; which is to become a physical therapist, but if I was not set on a goal some of these career
ideas would not seem too bad. While reading the list of jobs suited for my personality I was surprised
to see that psychologist was on the list because before I decided to go for physical therapy I wanted to
pursue a career in that exact field. As for most of the other fields mentioned above I

Summary Of A Weld By Albert Goldbarth
A Yield by Albert Goldbarth opens with a proposition that someone dies. It has no stanzas, and flows
as a stream of consciousness until the end, where a man washes cucumbers. Throughout the poem,
there are a lot of allusions to many of the impressive feats humankind has achieved. This is then
contrasted with the end, where ordinary things are described as beautiful. The poem is very
descriptive, and often uses metaphors to illustrate a mental picture of what is going on. In terms of
lineation, the lines don t rhyme, nor do they have any particular rhythm. A Yield by Albert Goldbarth
is a philosophical argument that states that big, seemingly important things are not good enough as a
distraction from death, pain, and loss, while small, insignificant ... Show more content on

In terms of lineation, the lines of A Yield end in an enjambment except between sections. In the last
section, all the lines end in either a comma or a period, breaking this pattern. Therefore, there are no
clear patterns. There are different numbers of syllables in each line, and no regular rhythm. This gives
the poem an almost natural feeling, similar to prose. Because of the simplicity of the form, the poem
has an ordinary beauty to it. This visual orientation and the rest of the form provide further illustration
of the main point of the poem. Through the form of the poem, Goldbarth is illustrating that big,
extravagant things are made out of smaller, simpler things. Just like Angkor Wat is made out of stones,
this poem is made out of lines and sentences. Angkor Wat, much like many of the other examples in
the poem is a religious place. In general, religion is the worship of something or someone better and
more impressive than any person who has ever lived. Whether or not any of these deities are real is
another question, but it is implied in the poem that even religion is not enough to distract people from

General Moon Had Ordered The Special Operations
General Moon had ordered the Special Operations Groups around post to open up all of the
underground storage facilities, he noted that SFC Harris from 19th Special Forces Group had let the
cat out of the bag and General Portson was not a happy camper. General Portson wanted the
helicopters out ASAP, checked out and verified that they still ran. There was still plenty of fuel for
them over at Pope AFB, granted it would run out sooner or later, but for now they were set. He wanted
the birds up and flying NLT 1500 that day. General Moon kindly pointed out to General Portson that

They had also ventured to these facilities on a regular basis to maintain them, it s not like they could

word came down to get them out the Night Stalkers were well aware of the status of the aircraft and
were happy to hear they had first pick. Although the 160th Headquarters and majority of the battalions
were located at Fort Campbell, Kentucky 2nd Battalion had been on loan to the Special Forces
command on Fort Bragg at the time the event happened. Essentially leaving the Battalion stranded
with no mission because they had no aircraft, they were then made responsible for the maintenance
and care of the aircraft in the underground facilities that kept most of the pilots and mechanics busy.
Others were given the opportunity to join their Special Forces brethren and become snake eaters. The
commander of 2nd Battalion was Lieutenant Colonel Forest Zane he d been in aviation his entire

his career and should have advanced to full bird colonel by now. He s had a DUI when he was a Major

Women s Roles In Medieval Japan
1. The geography of Medieval Japan consisted of gardens for tea. The civilians would create burial
grounds for deaths of their leaders. This was similar to the pyramids of Egypt. As for something not
man made is the very mountainous land. There were plenty of rivers as well. These separated the
people apart from each other and kept things more secluded. The seclusion kept people apart so there
were different ideas which at times would cause the government some trouble whilst trying to keep
things under control. The climate in Japan was not very hot or very cold it would snow and there
would be a lot of heat but not all year around, it d change with the seasons. Most of the land also wasn

There were many religions/philosophy during Medieval Japan. There were eight religions that affected
Ancient Japan and their development. Christianity, Buddhism, Shintoism, are three of the eight that
has shaped Japan s history and as well as examples of religions that we have researched. Christianity
didn t really affect Japan up until the medieval era ended and wasn t brought over until European
peoples traveled to Japan. That leaves Buddhism and Shintoism. Shintoism is known as their first and
official religion. No one really knows where the origin of Shinto came from but it impacted the
development of historical Japan. A tradition that involves the Shinto shrine is after the birth of a baby,
it is named after three days, then after about a month old, and the baby is brought to the Shinto shrine
to officially become the member of the community. Shinto was also known as the way of the gods and
those who worshipped Shintoism seldom asked about existing with the nature or who the world was
formed. In Shinto, there was something known as kami, or god(s); though in some cases kami can also
be translated into appearance where it can be human, nature, or an unmovable object. The men and
women were devoted to the kami. The kami is believed to have formed the earth and has a relationship
with nature. Worshipping Shintoism was rather simple and a family affair; meaning that you were to
worship with your family at the right place (which is usually in shrines) and time, together.

What Is My Teddy Bear Essay
Being sentimental about the things that are given and sent to me from family, reading and being
educated are very important to me and gives a good description of who I am. However, I am very
distinctive, I love that about myself and it is very astonishing to people. What makes me distinctive is
the love I have for my family, sentimental values for my letters and teddy bears that were written to
me from my grandma and great aunt who she unfortunately passes away; sometimes I need that space
to get away and think and read. The love I have for books is unbelievable, I love a good book. All of
these characteristics define who I am right now. A big part of me and my happiness are my teddy
bears. The teddy bears I have were given to me, at some point in my past, from someone who truly
meant a lot to me. One of the teddy bears I have collected was given to me in 3rd grade from this boy
I really liked, he surprised me with chocolate, balloons, and a medium sized furry, pink teddy. It was
so adorable. Although he is not my boyfriend now, he meant something to me then, he was my first

Diligence In Real Estate
Due diligence is simply the method of undertaking a little bit of inquiries with a few ordinary
attention. Due diligence in real estate would include doing research over the property, its
surroundings, and the factors that may affect the rent from tenant to property holder. Due diligence is
done to eliminate the unknown kind of risk to the property holder , Dolf de Roos, 2010. It is an
important section of granting the property to the resident to check whether the resident is qualified to
pay the rent. It must be verified whether the party of interest will be able to pay the rent of the
property to the landowner on a timely basis. There are numerous matters on which due diligence must
be completed on real estate.

The home was in a lovely older neighborhood and had been on the market for a long time. So the price
from the initial listing to the one that caught my attention was extremely low. I made an offer on the

curbside appeal for the home was beautiful. I did not do any research on the property and just took the
word of the agent that all documents and taxes were current. That there were no issues. After talking to
a few neighbors in that area I found out in time that there were many issues surrounding the property
and that is way it was priced so low. The improvements had been done without permits and that placed
the property in situations too hard to sell or get financing for. For me the due diligence would have
been to research my title documents, court papers, and etc even before wasting anytime on that piece
of property. Lucky for me the offer I placed on the table was able to be voided since the agent did not

Growing Up In A Small Town
Imagine a world where there is no longer any local farms or farmers, a world where Ag is no longer

with these great benefits and opportunities of living in a small town, probably can t imagine what it
would be like. I personally will be greatly affected by this. The thought of urbanization taking the
heart and soul out of small rural towns is crushing. Growing up in a small town has made me who I

Truman Doctrine Research Paper
The Truman Doctrine: Contain the expansion of communism, presumably everywhere.
Summarize a situation that required U.S. diplomatic efforts during the president s time in office:
As World War 2 came to a close an Anti Democratic Iron Curtain had descended across Europe
according to the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Britain and most of the other countries in
Europe s forces were worn out, and their wealth all but depleted from the challenges of World War 2.
Because of this it was almost impossible to stop the spread of communism all throughout Europe. The
Truman Doctrine emerged from a speech given by President Truman before a joint session of congress

Before the Truman Doctrine there was the Monroe Doctrine that was created in 1823 by American
President James Monroe which was overturned by the Truman Doctrine. The Truman Doctrine was
instrumental in the creation of the Marshall Plan, which was a plan designed to contain communism
by lending economic aid to struggling European countries to help get them on their feet again. This
aid would help these countries fight communism. The Marshall Plan was ratified in 1948. In Truman s
speech he convinced congress that it was important to confront the soviets immediately, because if
they do not then more and more countries would fall to Communism like Dominoes. This later
became known as the Domino Theory which was introduced to Truman by his Under Secretary Dean
Acheson. The Domino Theory was later to inspire the American interventions in Korea and Vietnam.
He stated that if more countries succumb to communism it would make it easier for communism to
spread, and therefore more difficult to stop. The Truman Doctrine ended up leading to NATO, and
increased anti Communist hysteria. The speech also convinced the Soviet Union that the U.S. was a
threat to Soviet Communism which caused the Cold War to heat up even

Dream Argument In Groundhog Night
Are individuals actually experiencing the external world, or could it be that they are in a deep state of
permanent sleep. Are you the reader, as you read these words positive that you are wide awake? Or is
this merely an illusion, a dream? How can one determine whether he is undeniably not dreaming?
This Philosophical question was presented in Descartes first meditation where he introduced dreams
that get individuals to confuse both dreaming and waking state. Descartes explains in his text; I have
been tricked by exactly similar thoughts while asleep!...I see plainly that there are never any sure signs
by means of which being awake can be distinguished from being asleep. (Descartes, 1996).

Human Ecology And Its Effects On Society
The world we live in is a complex place full of networks and connections that are often veiled from
our immediate perspectives. The natural resources and, material culture stemming from that, made
available to humans directly affect the ways in which we are able to organize and conduct our lives.
The ways in which we organize the space around us is a clear indication of wealth, race, or ethnicity.
The minorities are often kept in isolation from the wealthier areas of society (be that economic wealth
or natural resource wealth) which directly affects the jobs the minorities are able to obtain and further
inhibits a lessening of racism by preventing a mixed association of races and different groups of
people. Without the understanding of other people, racism is allowed to continue through the simple
lack of social interaction.
It is things such as these that interests ecologists. Human ecology is a study that focuses on
relationships between different social lives and the implications of the connections between those and
the physical world around them. A vivid example of the altered relations through a shifting physical
environment is found within the creation of central heating. Before each room was able to be heated,
families would often gather together in a central room where there was warmth around a fireplace.
This setting promoted people to interact on a regular basis and thus encourage the familial
relationship. After the creation of central heating, those

The Fighting Of The Taliban Essay
Growing up as a female in Afghanistan in the 1900 s was extremely hard being that the Taliban had
then taken over and emerged as a political force and began to establish order. Women were equivalent
to slaves, they were denied education, and they were financially dependent, where they couldn t make
money of their own. Prior to the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan women truly suffered.
While Afghanistan were under the Taliban they had one of the worst human rights records in the
world. The government systematically denied the most basic individual rights. The Taliban closed the
women s university and forced practically all women to quit their jobs. Women were also denied
medical assistance, enforced a highly restrictive dress code and limited the ability if women to move
about the city. The Taliban first became prominent in 199 and took over the Afghan capital, Kabul in
1994 where Jamila Afghani is from.
Unlike her sister Jamila Afghani was allowed to go to school. ONLY because her doctor suggested it.
At a young age, Jamila suffered from polio which affected the left side of her body, which then led her
into depression. The doctor thought that school would distract her from her problems and it did, but
her family wasn t too happy about that. They looked at her as a disgrace. This eventually led to her not

Animal Experimentation at New York University
Using animals for medical experimentation and education is a controversial subject that often leads to
a heated debate. The issues are complex, but the suffering and waste involved in animal
experimentation are painfully obvious. Vivisection, the act of cutting into a live animal, has led the
nation down countless scientific dead ends, while detracting funds and attention from more applicable
scientific research. The practice of animal experimentation at NYU continues, not because it has been
proven to be an accurate and reliable means of research (which it has not) but rather, because of
tradition and promotion from those with strong vested interests (i.e. Lynne Kiorpes). These values

Importance Of Being Earnest Hyperbole
The Importance of Being Earnest is a satirical play by Oscar Wilde that highlights the hypocrisy of the
19th century. During the Victorian Era beautiful advances were made in art and science were
contrasted by the extremely divided class structure with obscene wealth reigning on one end while
harsh poverty and squalor continued below. The ideal nature of the upper class was glorified, but
Wilde utilizes literature to show the gluteny and repressed nature of these individuals to a degree
nearing hyperbole in order to make the audience reflect on their own flaws. The title and main theme
throughout this work is how to become Earnest in regards to the name, but in reality the play wants
onlookers to analyse the word earnest s meaning resulting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bracknell, like many members of Victorian society, was worried about luxuries such as food and
objects( shown by the sustenance such as cucumber sandwiches she grew to expect) as opposed to the

does not allow. She is excited about the prospect of Algernon marrying Cecily only after she finds out
about her wealth, and still refuses to allow Jack to marry Gwendolen until she finds out his true
lineage as a pure social elite. These extremes demonstrate the importance Victroina society placed on
the social pyrimid which prevented many people within the upper class from being ethical. Beyond

Ecological Factors Affecting Whole Foods Market

and even created changes in transportation costs in general, household incomes have improved since
the recession, while transportation costs are higher which results in higher operating costs for Whole
Foods Market. Social effect of Whole Foods Whole Foods Market must address the healthy lifestyle
trend and the rural to urban population shift, as both areas have increased demand for organic, natural
products, and Whole Foods Market must plan to make sure they keep up with this ever growing
demand. Education on nutrition is more widely available, affordable, and understandable. More and
more people seek healthier choices in dietary regimes in order to achieve a healthier lifestyle and stave
off illness and maintain a healthier body for longer. There are also technological and ecological
factors. Thompson makes it clear that Whole Foods Market must work to keep up with the
advancements in technology that are rapidly cropping up in the food production industry. They ve
done well to adopt green energy, but Thompson believes they must do more to build more automated
services for inventory and delivery, cutting down on certain types of manual labor jobs and creating
more tech based jobs, and ultimately leading to improved reliability and efficiency of their company
as a whole. The main ecological factor that impacts Whole Foods Market is climate change. Climate

Gang Vs Traditional Gang
Defining gangs have been compared to packs, teams, and groups. Participants of gangs do not
necessarily commit violent acts or commence in illegal matters. The National Gang Center has come
to a consensus on defining gangs with the commonalities of three or more members between the ages
of 12 through 24, shared identity, recognized by others as a gang or crew, has levels of organization,
and usually involved in criminal activities (Shelden, Tracy, Brown, 2013). Some gangs are excluded
from this definition due to not proportionate with their usual activities. Overall, we can consider gangs
to be founded when members share similar characteristics and establish a symbol to represent their
livelihood. Pictures 1 through 3 I found in various locations in Chattanooga relatively close to
downtown area. These graffiti markings are found to belong to a graffiti crew that declares themselves
as DIB which is an acronym for doin it blazed composed of graffiti artists such as Renik, Bern, Astro,
and Spec (Reddit, 2013). This is not our traditional idea of a gang or gang members since they only
commit acts of vandalism. However, without keeping in mind our idea of a traditional gang, we see
this group has many of the aspects to be considered a gang. There are more than 3 members who have

violence occurrence. My findings were two gangs, although one is not considered in the
comprehensive assessment. Chattanooga has begun a reform against graffiti and started a movement to

movement in reducing gang involvement. Finding specific gang graffiti has become a struggle and is

Postitive Influence of Rock Music
Positive Influences of Rock Music
Beneath misconceptions attached to rock music, lies the truth. In a recent unpublished survey, results
showed that the majority of people, a mixture of different age groups and genre listeners, disagree that
rock music has had any positive influences that outweigh the negative (Do). Through lack of
analyzing, many judge rock music without ever knowing the truth about it. Those that do not
understand the genre may blame it for everything that is wrong with today. Rock music is not to blame
for the darkness in our society; instead, it leads us away from it. It has many positive influences that
cannot be seen at a quick glance. Not only has rock affected individuals but society and time

System of a Down, a successful and influential rock band recite in ‘Boom! , one of their newest

Bands such as System of a Down are often charged with lyrics depicting their political views in the

They have been known to burn flags at their concerts, not to be malicious, but to make their audience

Aeneas and Dido
Upon reading the story of Aeneas and Dido, I found myself a little surprised by the way things ended
between them. What I mean by this is although I had the understanding that the relationship (or lack
thereof) between the two of them was going to end badly, for Dido to commit suicide and pray that
Aeneas failed on his journey was a bit of a shock to me. I also found myself wondering why Aeneas
did not seem to understand that Dido was in love with him, or why Venus only worked her godly
powers on Dido and not Aeneas as well. It seems to me that while the gods have power, it s never
enough to ensure their plans go as they planned. I ve viewed Aeneas as this embodiment

Social Consequences Of The Black Death
The Black Death was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history. It began in south
western Asia and spread to Europe by the late 1340 s, where it received its name Black Death. The
impact of this disease changed the way Europeans of the time lived their lives and their beliefs. The
Black Death was a major disease which spread through numerous parts of Europe, Asia and Africa and
impacted virtually every aspect of the Europeans lives.
The Black Death had major short and long term effects on the Europeans. The most obvious impact
was the massive scale of deaths. Wikipedia ( Consequences Of The Black Death . En.wikipedia.org.

There was a major economic impact, which later lead to major changes. Agricultural prices dropped
after the Plague, this endangered the fortunes and power of those whose power was based on the land.
Since the Black Death resulted in such a serious amount of death, wages rose dramatically. As a result
in the shortage of labourers and workers, the Aristocracy (the highest people in the social class) began
to lose much of their power and status. However, the shortage in workers not only lead to a higher
wage but it also gave labourers a chance to improve their condition of employment, therefore, also
helping to increase the numbers of workers. In addition, social impacts of the Plague were felt
immediately after the worst of the outbreaks of the Plague started to decrease. Peasants had a
favourable outcome after the great population loss, they had better living conditions as they were able
to take over more of the city and they were receiving more wages as well. It was also possible for the
Peasants to move about and rise higher in life. Despite that, as the population growth resumed, the
Peasants were again faced with deprivation and famine. According to Wikipedia Consequences of the
Black Death ( Consequences Of The Black Death . En.wikipedia.org. N.p., 2016. Web. 12 Nov. 2016.)
The Plague s great population reduction brought cheaper land prices and also left vast areas of
farmland unattended. This helped the Peasants to thrive, by helping them to producing more food. The
vast areas of unattended farmland provided new sources of employment for the Peasants, for example,
a Peasant could be employed by an Aristocrat (lord) and they could then work for them and have a
sufficient source of income. The Lord s made the land available mostly for pasture, helping to put
more meat on the market, and in the long run, helping the consumption of meat and dairy. The Black

Imagine a little boy sitting in the back of a car with his grandma and her boyfriend passed out in the
front seat. The situation just described is real. This actually happened to a little boy not too long ago,
and it was caused by an overdose of the poisonous drug heroin. Heroin has become a large problem in
the United States. It is highly addictive, making it very dangerous. It threatens lives, especially since
the number of abusers is so high. Since heroin is so addictive, many people have come to abuse it,
making it one of the most common and dangerous drugs used in the United States. A popular drug
most commonly known as heroin can also be referred to as Big H, Brown Sugar, Junk, or Horse. It can
be sticky and tar like, or hard and coal like depending on what type is being used. Heroin is taken by
injecting, snorting, or smoking it. Heroin is a narcotic drug, meaning it relieves pain. The botanical
name for this natural drug is Opium poppy, which is the name of the plant it comes from. A common

The Competency Of The Educator
Students who are taught key skills and strategies in reading instruction often develop into more
proficient readers than those who are not provided with these skills in an explicit and systematic way.
As formal reading instruction for many students commences in the foundation year of school, it is the
role of the educator to model and explain the key components of literacy to students. Research on
effective reading instruction suggests that students benefit when they learn concepts of print,
phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension (National Reading Panel,
2000). Moreover, reading instruction needs to be supported by effective teaching strategies that
include modelled reading aloud, shared book reading, guided ... Show more content on

Through a balanced approach, educators make decisions on individual student s literacy needs and
select appropriate instructional activities with the goal of developing, value, comprehension, and
enjoyment of reading (Cowan, as cited in National Education Psychological Service [NEPS], 2015, p.
8). However, research concludes there is no definitive description of what a balanced approach to
literacy means and they all have similar elements. To put it another way, effective educators of reading
instruction offer a print rich balanced reading program that incorporates explicit and systematic
instructions in concepts of print, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and
comprehension. These reading skills develop as educators model and scaffold engaging activities, for
instance, read aloud s, shared, guided, and independent reading, rhymes, and songs. These activities
are the underpinnings of a successful literacy program (Winch, Johnston, March, Ljungdahl, Holliday,
2006, p. 155). A balanced reading approach also provides students opportunities to repeat and practice
skills as educators observe and assess student s abilities. Therefore, educators must explicitly instruct
literacy skills from foundation to year twelve because they are essential to academic growth.
Explicit teaching is a systematic and carefully planned approach that effectively teaches students the
key skills of literacy.

more concerned with the college life, drinking and dueling. At this time, he came in contact with a

Within the year of 1833 Wagner composed his first completed opera named die feen (the fairies)

Within a few days, the disease started affecting the town, making the Black Death s first of many

that devastated the Western World in late 1347. The disease originated in eastern Asia but was spread

The abundance of fleas and rats combined with the ability for the disease to become airborne allowed
for rapid spreading, large outbreaks, and high mortality rates. When the Black Plague arrived, Europe
was already in a state of distress. Europe s population had grown so large that it was becoming
difficult to sustain the population. They converted all available land to cereal production to produce
the basic need of bread, but they remained one bad harvest or natural disaster away from death. At the
time, the climate was going through a cold phase. This left Europe with harsh winters and wet
summers allowing for many failed harvests leading to significant famines and deaths (Naphy Spicer

through Europe. The Plague would slow down during the winter months then regained its fierce
momentum during the summer months as it made its way through the Western World, traveling by
ships and arriving in ports. When the people of Messina first started becoming infected with the
plague, some of them fled to Catania. These immigrants unknowingly brought the plague with them
and the people of Catania began falling ill. Catania imposed quarantine laws, regulations on
immigrants, and buried their dead outside the city walls, but none of it made a difference as hundreds
of people began dying here as well

Our intention is to do the aforementioned in a manner that will allow us to manage all of the files and

Reasons to Change. In the past our peer to peer network architecture served us well by providing us
with a way to share our files and resources in a manner that did not require much planning.
Unfortunately, as a peer to peer network grows it becomes more difficult to maintain due to its lack of
centralized control which makes it un scalable. With the addition of fifty individual workstations,
security access and file storage control remains in the hands of the user. For example, should someone
decide to delete a company file, there would be no way of knowing. Once there are more than five or
six workstations attached peer to peer networks begin to pose as a security threat that may cause loss
of sensitive company data due to virus and spyware attacks. Fortunately advancements in technology
have provided a viable solution for rapidly growing small businesses such as our own called servers.
Our Viable Solution. Adding a server to our current network will allow our employees to manage,

Right away in the story we observe that Nat Ackerman is an average person, boring and monotone

Sonnet 18 By William Shakespeare
SONNET 18 BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
William Shakespeare wrote Sonnet 18 as part of a sequence of 154 sonnets. Also known as Shall I
Compare Thee? Sonnet 18 has become one of his most well loved poems. Shakespeare includes
symbols of time, decay and eternity within this work. The speaker explicates his unending love for his
beloved and how it will live on after death. The first quatrain introduces the personification of
summer.
The speaker begins the sonnet by asking if he can compare his friend to a warm, summer day. A brief
statement stating how lovely and temperate thee is follows this rhetorical question. Rough winds do
shake the darling buds of May, Shakespeare s first example of personification, says that strong winds
can hurt the new flower buds and summer s lease hath all too short a date, explains that the season
does not last long. The mention of a lease refers to the fact that summer must end.
The personification of nature is even more evident in the second quatrain. This time the sun is named
the eye of heaven. The speaker also suggests that the sun is sometimes hidden. Additionally, it is said
that everything that has beauty will fade. This may be by chance or by inevitable time. Shakespeare
uses the word untrimm d to refer to these fair things as losing their decorations, or trimmings.
However, the speaker has changed the overall tone at the beginning of the third quatrain. Moving
away from the beautiful description of summer, the speaker explains

My Life as a Furry Red Monster by Kevin Clash
RESEARCH/BACKGROUND/TIMELINE
Kevin Clash was not a household name, but a household voice. In 1983, Clash became the voice of
Elmo on the iconic television program Sesame Street. In 2006, Kevin Clash released a book called My
Life as a Furry Red Monster. This was the first time that the public began to know the person behind
the voice of Elmo. In a way you can say that Clash was the one to bring life and energy to Elmo. Elmo
was not even a main character on Sesame Street until Clash took over. In 2011, he also release Being
Elmo: A Puppeteer s Journey, which includes rare footage, and behind the scenes look at Sesame
Street and the Jim Henson Workshop.
However, in November 2012 his career came to a halt when he was accused of having sexually
abusive relationships with underage boys. Sheldon Stephens was the first accuser and claimed they
had a sexual relationship when he was 16 years old. Clash denied any wrongdoing but did admit to the
relationship. He maintained that the relationship was consensual. Stephens retracted his statement, but
the accusations damaged Clash s reputation. Stephens going public with this information lead to three
other males filing lawsuits against Clash for the same crime. Cecil Singleton, Kevin Kiadii and one
known as S.M. all claimed Clash sexually abused them when they were under the age of 18 (NY Daily

Discussion
A pure organic compound melts or freezes fairly sharply over a specific temperature range called its
melting point. This physical constant can help identify a substance. Generally, any impurity added to a
pure substance will lower its observed melting point and increase the range over which melting
occurs. Therefore, when two pure organic substances possess a similar melting point, a mixture
containing both substances will often melt at a lower temperature and over a broader range.
Conversely, if a mixture of a known and unknown substance actually contains a single substance, the
melting point of the mixture will not deviate from the melting point of the known.
Davis (1913) demonstrated that pairs of substances with similar melting points melted at lower
temperatures and over broader melting ranges when mixed. Since the separation and purification of a
compound from food or excretions often leaves toxicologists with very little material to examine,
Davis (1913) recommended the use of melting point and mixed melting point data for

Essay On Prenatal Care
I have worked as a nurse in obstetrics for over 20 years. I was not surprised by the findings revealed in
the Milligan article. The article provided barriers and motivations for women to receive prenatal care.
The first barrier identified was drug abuse. Many of these women choose to not get any prenatal care
or enter prenatal care very late in their pregnancy because they are scared they will have their baby
taken from them. Some of these women will attempt to get clean themselves. They are unaware that
detoxing during pregnancy is extremely dangerous. The risk for intrauterine fetal death is very high
and they need to be monitored very closely while being detoxed. This article also reveals that a
supportive partner is seen as an important motivator for the patient (Milligan, 2002). I completely
agree! No one wants to feel alone when they are pregnant. These patients need a support person
because they are at an increase risk of noncompliance. They need daily encouragement and they need

culture and beliefs play a large role in establishing what is normal for a particular ethnic group. Each
culture may view and deal with a situation differently or find certain means more acceptable than
others. As providers, it is essential that we understand these variances to help minimize inequalities

How Does Lenore Characterize In The Raven
Zack Griffin
Mrs. Ruiz
English 2
27 February 2018
Guilt is Evermore I think that Nicholas Rowe said it best when he said Guilt is the source of sorrows
the avenging fiend that follows us behind with whips and stings. In Edgar Allen Poe s narrative poem
The Raven The narrator is in a state of deep depression, guilt that he let his rare and radiant maiden
whom the angels name Lenore (The Raven) get away from him, the guilt has been eating away at him
to the point where he is driven mad. I believe in this poem there was no raven, just a guilty mad man
who s imagination overcame him, the guilt and regret of never being able to see his perfect maiden
again pushes him closer and closer towards insanity until he snaps.
I believe that there was no raven in this story at all, just a man cursing life itself for his hardships. In
the poem the narrator says to the raven, Get thee back into the tempest and the Night s Plutonian
shore! (The Raven) saying that the raven is a demon that has come straight from hell, he is saying this
because the raven said that he will see lenore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says that the raven has eyes of a demon and it s shadow hangs over the narrators soul. The Ravens
darkness symbolizes the constant reminder of death and horror, this is what is eating away at the
narrator. Another big use of dark imagery is the nights plutonium shore the Roman good Pluto is the
god of death, and his shore would be a part of the underworld. The time of the play is at midnight in
December, midnight is traditionally the darkest most eerie time of day, and nothing lives in the winter,
everything is gloomy and lacking life and color. The one thing that Poe describes as radiant and good
is taken from the poem to create a mood of sadness and desperation. The raven starts as a reminder of
a past lover and changes into an embodiment of

Dynamic Data Driven Selection Of Sensor Streams
On Dynamic Data Driven Selection of Sensor Streams
This paper covers the online sensor selection in which the sensor network and relations between
sensors dynamically change by time and a model which is working for selection of sensors at time
may not work for the sensor selection at time , . The selection model of this paper is similar to model
discussed in section 3 (i.e. Online distributed sensor selection) but it is based on a well defined special
centralized algorithm (central server calculates the utility function and decides which sensors should
be selected).
The main goal of the sensor selection is to preserve battery by selecting a subset of sensors for
prediction. After the sensors have been selected, their value will be read in multiple turns (i.e. active
turns) and it will be used to predict the unselected sensors, then the value of all sensors will be read
(i.e. passive turn) and based on that the active set of the next interval will be selected. The art of this
paper is to find a way to switch between active and passive selection modes in some specific update
intervals (number of active turns before a passive turn) to find the optimized selection of sensors for
the next interval of data collection, this way it preserves the power requirement by activating only few
sensors for multiple turns and then trying to maintain the active set using the collected data of the
passive turns. It accomplishes this task by doing evaluation regression model over multiple

Muslims In Films
A decade following the 9/11 tragedy, two Muslim passengers, Masudur Rahman, an instructor of
Arabic at the University of Memphis, and Mohamed Zaghloul, a religious leader at the Islamic
Association of Greater Memphis, were asked to leave a commercial airliner (Delta/ASA) in Memphis,
United States, during their flight in 2011 due to the pilot refusal to fly with them aboard. Apparently,
the other passengers felt uncomfortable and frightened by their appearance and the clothes they worn
(traditional Indian and Arab clothing) because of its similarity to the terrorist outfit in Hollywood
movies. Due to this, they were forced to postpone their departure and book a ticket for the next flight.
Feeling discriminated, the men reported the incident to Council on American Islamic Relations, a
Muslim civil rights and advocacy group in Washington, D.C, and claimed ... Show more content on

This act of bigotry was condemned in some quarters, however, the Delta/ASA pilot and the frightened
passengers received support from numerous voices among the American commentariat (Cole, 2011).
Thus, the discrimination against Muslims in the United States is still evident and the need for more
objective portrayal of Muslims in Hollywood films is continually increasing.
The representation of Muslims and Islam in the mainstream media such as films has been constantly
depicted in a stereotypical way even after the 9/11 incident. Having reviewed more than a thousand
films made since 1896, Dr Jack G. Shaheen, a former CBS News consultant on Middle East affairs
(2008), claimed that Muslim characters in American cinema, despite a varied background of
nationality and culture, have consistently been skewed into the Arab cycle of identification, ignoring
the role of other Muslims, and marginalized in a plot

Narrative Essay
I looked and saw that the shadows were gone and I was standing in victorious. I looked at my new
powers with pleasure. I started to shoot fire balls in the air. It was an incredible feeling inside me. I
turned around and the smile on my face disappeared. I realized the place I was at was gone. I was
somewhere else, but not somewhere I wanted to be. All I saw was fire all around me burning houses
and trees. I felt panic in me and I began to run, but when I ran I began to feel like I was suffocating. I
stopped and took a breather. Something wasn t right. I could feel a negative force around me and it
wouldn t go away. Suddenly I saw a figure coming toward me and I saw a shadow appear. I started to
run, but everywhere I turned the shadow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

felt tears forming in the back of my eye. NO! I screamed. I felt something within my change. I felt so
much power inside me and I could see that I was absorbing all the fire around me and form into one
big fire ball. I was starting to levitate in the air and I could feel the power within me grow. I felt so
angry and scared inside that I had to let it out. I use all the strength that I had left and threw the fire
ball at the shadow, which shrieked and disappeared. I slowly began to fall back down on the ground
and suddenly I saw a light. I slowly got back up and went towards it. Once I went towards it, I saw
everyone on the other side looking at me worried. Kimiko! Thank goodness you re ok! Raimundo
shouted hugging me and I pushed him away and he looked at me confused. What happened when you

Carter s The Bloody Chamber
The idea of the female only existing in relation to the male can also be evidenced in Carter s The
Bloody Chamber for example when the narrator recollects My satin nightdress had just been shaken
from its wrappings; it had slipped over my young girl s pointed breasts and shoulders, supple as a
garment of heavy water, and now teasingly caressed me, egregious, insinuating, nudging between my
thighs as I shifted restlessly in my narrow berth (2), this echoes Berger s claim that The surveyor of
woman in herself is male; the surveyed female as this quote shows the narrator is describing herself as
if to please a man, the fact that the night dress was given to her by the Marquis shows how she is
willing to see herself through his eyes as if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clegg s reactions such as blushing when he is asked by Miranda if he wants to kiss her or if he is
homosexual indicate that because his idealisation of her is that extreme he cannot touch her. To touch
Miranda would ruin his imaginary persona of her, he contents himself in taking photographs of
Miranda in different poses. The male gaze is prominent in the taking of the photos, Clegg states, It
was my chance I had been waiting for. I got the old camera and took some photos, I would have taken
more only she started to move a bit, so I had to pack up and get out quick. (95). Mulvey s theory of the
male gaze occurs when the audience is put into the perspective of a man, when a scene focuses on
such aspects as the curves of a female s body, therefore putting the viewer in the eyes of a male. This
is similar to what is happening when Clegg is taking the photographs as he earlier states I took of her
dress and her stockings and left on certain articles, just the brassieres and the other so as not to go the
whole hog. She looked a real picture lying there (95), by doing this the reader is allowed insight to
Clegg s perspective, it is clear by his language that he is manipulating her, he changes her clothing and
places her down in a position that enables him to focus on her body in order to achieve the desired
photographs.

A Pursuit to Compromise Happiness
A Pursuit to Compromise Happiness Everyone that is living in the world we live in today are all
making their best efforts to obtain that which we all want the most, happiness. Many individuals will
pursue that happiness, while others manage to compromise that happiness. Everyone has their own
methods at trying to achieve happiness, but sometimes they just cannot pursue it and when they realize
that what they want, they cannot have. Their happiness will become compromised. When at the same
time some individuals can pursue that happiness and achieve what they truly want in life. Other times
those who pursue their happiness, end up compromising their happiness in the process. The image

Voltaire s Candide Essay
Candide On November 21, 1694, Francois Marie Arouet, otherwise known as Voltaire, was born in
Paris. The youngest of five, son to Francois and Marie Arouet, Voltaire grew up in a household that
had come to know the pleasantries of upper class french society.
Marie, his mother, had gained the family access to Louis XIV court through her realtives. Because of
Voltaire s priviledged lineage he was able to study under the Abbe de Chateaneuf, at the Louis le
Grand Jesuit College in Paris. Voltaire spoke very highly of his Abbe in later years. After ten years at
school, he was sent to study law in Paris under his fathers orders. Early the following year, 1715,
Frances most famous absolutist monarch died and five year old ... Show more content on

The man in blue, later takes Candide and fits him with a Bulgar army uniform. His companions find
him to be a prodigy because the lashes he recieves decrease rapidly each day. Once Candide is facing
battle he says, Nothing could have been more splendid, brilliant, smart or orderly then the two armies.
The trumpets, fifes, oboes, drums and cannons produced a harmony whose equal was never heard in
hell. (pg 22)
Though Voltaire may not have had this personal experience, the story had been heard many times. Go
to war fight and die for the power of a far off monarch. Candide may be simple, but he is not stuipid.
Once he sees the equal attrocities caused by the Bulgars and enemy Avars he takes the opportunity,
provided by chaos, to flee. Many of Voltaires writings are inclusive of the theme of wrongful war. In
Charles XII, one of his earlier works, he addresses the lust for conquest and its consequences. At the
age of eighteen, Charles XII had learned his talent for conquest and by the end of the book he had lost
more than he had gained. (green voltaire) Voltaire finds war to be the same everywhere, his use of the
words, international law, and, natural law, prove this. The Bulgars burned the Avars village in
accordance with International law. ( ) It was declared, by the old woman, that international law

Supremacy of Eu Law
Supremacy/ Primacy of European Union Law Introduction: State sovereignty and supremacy of
European Union law are traditionally seen as fundamentally opposite in nature. The rights of states to
deal with national issues internally, in compliance with national law, versus the obligation on states to
subordinate national law to Community law. Where it is contained: Historically the EEC treaty
contained no provision dealing with the concept of supremacy of Community law over the national
law of member states. In fact, treaties were generally silent as to the nature of the relationship between
EU law and national law except for a general obligation contained in article 4 (3) TEU which states:

Allowing national law to take precedence over community law would result in a fractious legal
structure of which neither states nor citizens could rely on. The concept of supremacy was at the
forefront of the decision Flaminio Costa v E.N.E.L: just one year after the case in van gend en loos.
The case concerned the creation of E.N.E.L an Italian electricity company by the Italian government
under a law passed in 1962 to nationalise the electricity industry. Costa refused to pay his electricity
bill on the basis that the nationalisation of electricity providers infringed the Italian Constitution and
several provisions of the EC treaty. The ECJ in deciding the case stated that: the precedence of
community law is confirmed by article 189 (now 288) of the treaty, whereby a regulation shall be
binding and directly applicable on all member states. This provision which is subject to no reservation
would be quite meaningless if states could unilaterally nullify its effects by means of a legislative
measure which could prevail over community law The ECJ went further to comment that the transfer
of the member states from their national legal

Inevitably, some will catch on and become worldwide salon staples, while others will be sneered at and end up in a magazine as last years hair don ts. Years ago, the common hairstyle was heavily teased and sprayed with monochromatic colors from roots thru ends. Now, with a growing number of color lines and an unbridled imagination, haircolor techniques are exploding as stylists and colorists set fire to their creativity! Todays Chef s experiment with time tested recipes in the kitchen ~ adding a pinch of this, subtracting an ounce of that ~ taking off their aprons and getting themselves dirty in the process. It provides an outside source of income for the country while forcing citizens to look for jobs outside of these underdeveloped nations. Investopedia mentions the importance of this to the economic development of countries by stating that in 2014 $583 billion in USD was transferred between countries, $436 Billion in USD was transferred was received by developing countries (Investopedia, 2005). This fact demonstrates how the emergence of remittance with globalization has opened up developing countries to new economic opportunities. Haiti has become a key example of how a country has become reliable on this form of economic contribution. According to a 2010 report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inability of these workers to voice against their pay or treatment result in the common exploitation of their labor. As seen in the Migration Policy Institute s statement where Haitian immigrants earn incomes below 100 percent of the federal poverty rate in the United States. • 5. Education s Role in Trinidad and Tobago Essay Education and schooling has always played a pivotal role in the development of societies the world over and specifically in the context of Trinidad and Tobago. Education and schooling in this country as in any other is an investment in citizens that will reap benefits for all through research and innovation, physical and social mobility, improved opportunities and health. Though the exam driven nature of our system makes it different from North America (Lochan 2005), education remains the means through which we can demonstrate how, as a people we are dependent on each other as we attempt to build communities in which we can live harmoniously despite our cultural differences. It is Mustafa [2007] who states that colonialism and the advent of a plantation system has influenced the development of culture and identity in this Caribbean society. The pre independence era was characterized by the predominance off the imperialist s values, attitudes and mores. Independence however brought with it a struggle for the development our own free state and a sense off identity. The implication here focuses around governing ourselves, developing laws, choosing representatives and leaders who are expected to lead us to a new horizon but this relies on the development of education and schooling which has been resilient and has survived all efforts at change (Trinidad Express, 2002. 13). • 6. Myers and Briggs Personality Tests Essay Myers and Briggs Analysis The Myers and Briggs Analysis is a series of questions that when answered are examined and grouped together in order to determine the personalities of those taking this test. This particular test can result in sixteen different outcomes or types of personalities, which is determined by four different categories that judge if you are introverted or extroverted, use your senses or your intuition, your choice to think or use your feelings, and finally if you are judgmental or perceptive. These series of questions are designed to judge our personalities and help us to determine which career pathways we will be most suited for based on our personality traits and abilities to work well with others, which is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do find my values to be important to me, but I am not one to push my values onto others because I would never ask someone to believe in or do something they did not agree with. Overall this analysis of my personality seems to be pretty accurate with a few traits from the ISFP category as well. Myers and Briggs created a personality test that not only will help people to figure out their personality types, but at the same time it aids in the discovery of which career pathways people should take based on their specific personality traits. Based on the personality trait INFP that was given to me from the Myer Briggs test I have quite a few career pathways that fit my personality. Some of the career choices suited to my personality is a writer, counselor, teacher/professor, psychologist, psychiatrist, musician, or a religious worker; which seems like a pretty broad selection. Although there is a broad selection of careers that would suit my personality none of which are the career path that I have chosen; which is to become a physical therapist, but if I was not set on a goal some of these career ideas would not seem too bad. • 7. Summary Of A Weld By Albert Goldbarth A Yield by Albert Goldbarth opens with a proposition that someone dies. It has no stanzas, and flows as a stream of consciousness until the end, where a man washes cucumbers. Throughout the poem, there are a lot of allusions to many of the impressive feats humankind has achieved. This is then contrasted with the end, where ordinary things are described as beautiful. The poem is very descriptive, and often uses metaphors to illustrate a mental picture of what is going on. In terms of lineation, the lines don t rhyme, nor do they have any particular rhythm. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In terms of lineation, the lines of A Yield end in an enjambment except between sections. In the last section, all the lines end in either a comma or a period, breaking this pattern. Therefore, there are no clear patterns. There are different numbers of syllables in each line, and no regular rhythm. This gives the poem an almost natural feeling, similar to prose. Because of the simplicity of the form, the poem has an ordinary beauty to it. This visual orientation and the rest of the form provide further illustration of the main point of the poem. Through the form of the poem, Goldbarth is illustrating that big, extravagant things are made out of smaller, simpler things. Just like Angkor Wat is made out of stones, this poem is made out of lines and sentences. Angkor Wat, much like many of the other examples in the poem is a religious place. In general, religion is the worship of something or someone better and more impressive than any person who has ever lived. Whether or not any of these deities are real is another question, but it is implied in the poem that even religion is not enough to distract people from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Shinto, there was something known as kami, or god(s); though in some cases kami can also be translated into appearance where it can be human, nature, or an unmovable object. The men and women were devoted to the kami. The kami is believed to have formed the earth and has a relationship with nature. Britain and most of the other countries in Europe s forces were worn out, and their wealth all but depleted from the challenges of World War 2. The Truman Doctrine was instrumental in the creation of the Marshall Plan, which was a plan designed to contain communism by lending economic aid to struggling European countries to help get them on their feet again. This aid would help these countries fight communism. The Marshall Plan was ratified in 1948. In Truman s speech he convinced congress that it was important to confront the soviets immediately, because if they do not then more and more countries would fall to Communism like Dominoes. This later became known as the Domino Theory which was introduced to Truman by his Under Secretary Dean Acheson. The Domino Theory was later to inspire the American interventions in Korea and Vietnam. He stated that if more countries succumb to communism it would make it easier for communism to spread, and therefore more difficult to stop. The natural resources and, material culture stemming from that, made available to humans directly affect the ways in which we are able to organize and conduct our lives. The ways in which we organize the space around us is a clear indication of wealth, race, or ethnicity. The minorities are often kept in isolation from the wealthier areas of society (be that economic wealth or natural resource wealth) which directly affects the jobs the minorities are able to obtain and further inhibits a lessening of racism by preventing a mixed association of races and different groups of people. Without the understanding of other people, racism is allowed to continue through the simple lack of social interaction. It is things such as these that interests ecologists. Human ecology is a study that focuses on relationships between different social lives and the implications of the connections between those and the physical world around them. A vivid example of the altered relations through a shifting physical environment is found within the creation of central heating. Before each room was able to be heated, families would often gather together in a central room where there was warmth around a fireplace. This setting promoted people to interact on a regular basis and thus encourage the familial relationship. After the creation of central heating, those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prior to the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan women truly suffered. While Afghanistan were under the Taliban they had one of the worst human rights records in the world. During the Victorian Era beautiful advances were made in art and science were contrasted by the extremely divided class structure with obscene wealth reigning on one end while harsh poverty and squalor continued below. The ideal nature of the upper class was glorified, but Wilde utilizes literature to show the gluteny and repressed nature of these individuals to a degree nearing hyperbole in order to make the audience reflect on their own flaws. Lady Bracknell, like many members of Victorian society, was worried about luxuries such as food and objects( shown by the sustenance such as cucumber sandwiches she grew to expect) as opposed to the actual company. This focus on money as opposed to morals extends to the marriages she allows and does not allow. She is excited about the prospect of Algernon marrying Cecily only after she finds out about her wealth, and still refuses to allow Jack to marry Gwendolen until she finds out his true lineage as a pure social elite. These extremes demonstrate the importance Victroina society placed on the social pyrimid which prevented many people within the upper class from being ethical. Beyond this Lady Bracknell displays her own hypocrisy when she discourages mercenary weddings, but later discuss how her marriage was motivated by money, When I married Lord Bracknell I had not fortune of any kind. But I never dreamed of allowing that to stand in my way (Wilde 79). Her inability to notice flaws she sees in others demonstrates how insincere she is. In addition, social impacts of the Plague were felt immediately after the worst of the outbreaks of the Plague started to decrease. Peasants had a favourable outcome after the great population loss, they had better living conditions as they were able to take over more of the city and they were receiving more wages as well. Plus, he is easily persuaded with a game of Gin Rummy which for me, can easily describe of a simpleton s way of solving things. On another note, I liked very much how the stage directions didn t interfere with the play at all, rather they improve the visual and enhance the experience we the readers go through. The stage directions mostly included Death s distractions which added humor to overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Sonnet 18 By William Shakespeare SONNET 18 BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE William Shakespeare wrote Sonnet 18 as part of a sequence of 154 sonnets. Also known as Shall I Compare Thee? Sonnet 18 has become one of his most well loved poems. Shakespeare includes symbols of time, decay and eternity within this work. The speaker explicates his unending love for his beloved and how it will live on after death. The first quatrain introduces the personification of summer. The speaker begins the sonnet by asking if he can compare his friend to a warm, summer day. A brief statement stating how lovely and temperate thee is follows this rhetorical question. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, Shakespeare s first example of personification, says that strong winds can hurt the new flower buds and summer s lease hath all too short a date, explains that the season does not last long. The mention of a lease refers to the fact that summer must end. The personification of nature is even more evident in the second quatrain. This time the sun is named the eye of heaven. The speaker also suggests that the sun is sometimes hidden. Additionally, it is said that everything that has beauty will fade. This may be by chance or by inevitable time. Shakespeare uses the word untrimm d to refer to these fair things as losing their decorations, or trimmings. However, the speaker has changed the overall tone at the beginning of the third quatrain. Moving away from the beautiful description of summer, the speaker explains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. My Life as a Furry Red Monster by Kevin Clash RESEARCH/BACKGROUND/TIMELINE Kevin Clash was not a household name, but a household voice. In 1983, Clash became the voice of Elmo on the iconic television program Sesame Street. In 2006, Kevin Clash released a book called My Life as a Furry Red Monster. This was the first time that the public began to know the person behind the voice of Elmo. In a way you can say that Clash was the one to bring life and energy to Elmo. Elmo was not even a main character on Sesame Street until Clash took over. In 2011, he also release Being Elmo: A Puppeteer s Journey, which includes rare footage, and behind the scenes look at Sesame Street and the Jim Henson Workshop. However, in November 2012 his career came to a halt when he was accused of having sexually abusive relationships with underage boys. Sheldon Stephens was the first accuser and claimed they had a sexual relationship when he was 16 years old. Clash denied any wrongdoing but did admit to the relationship. He maintained that the relationship was consensual. Stephens retracted his statement, but the accusations damaged Clash s reputation. Stephens going public with this information lead to three other males filing lawsuits against Clash for the same crime. Cecil Singleton, Kevin Kiadii and one known as S.M. all claimed Clash sexually abused them when they were under the age of 18 (NY Daily News). A judge dismissed all cases because they were filed after the six year statute of limitations had expired (NY Daily News). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chemistry 2210L Results The experimenters inserted a capillary tube containing approximately 2 to 3 mm of benzoic acid into a manual Mel Temp melting point apparatus. With the Mel Temp dial set between 3 and 4, the temperature increased at a steady rate of approximately 2° C per minute from a plateau set at 90° C. The first appearance of liquid occurred at 119° C, and the benzoic acid completely melted by 122° C giving a melting point range of 119° C to 122° C for benzoic acid. Repeating the procedure for 2 naphthol returned a melting point range of 118° C to 123° C. Next, a 1:1 mixture of benzoic acid and 2 naphthol received the same ... This physical constant can help identify a substance. Generally, any impurity added to a pure substance will lower its observed melting point and increase the range over which melting occurs. Therefore, when two pure organic substances possess a similar melting point, a mixture containing both substances will often melt at a lower temperature and over a broader range. Conversely, if a mixture of a known and unknown substance actually contains a single substance, the melting point of the mixture will not deviate from the melting point of the known. Davis (1913) demonstrated that pairs of substances with similar melting points melted at lower temperatures and over broader melting ranges when mixed. Since the separation and purification of a compound from food or excretions often leaves toxicologists with very little material to examine, Davis (1913) recommended the use of melting point and mixed melting point data for

The article provided barriers and motivations for women to receive prenatal care. The first barrier identified was drug abuse. Many of these women choose to not get any prenatal care or enter prenatal care very late in their pregnancy because they are scared they will have their baby taken from them. Some of these women will attempt to get clean themselves. They are unaware that detoxing during pregnancy is extremely dangerous. The risk for intrauterine fetal death is very high and they need to be monitored very closely while being detoxed. This article also reveals that a supportive partner is seen as an important motivator for the patient (Milligan, 2002). I completely agree! No one wants to feel alone when they are pregnant. These patients need a support person because they are at an increase risk of noncompliance. They need daily encouragement and they need someone who will help hold them accountable. ... How Does Lenore Characterize In The Raven Zack Griffin Mrs. Ruiz English 2 27 February 2018 Guilt is Evermore I think that Nicholas Rowe said it best when he said Guilt is the source of sorrows the avenging fiend that follows us behind with whips and stings. In Edgar Allen Poe s narrative poem The Raven The narrator is in a state of deep depression, guilt that he let his rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore (The Raven) get away from him, the guilt has been eating away at him to the point where he is driven mad. I believe in this poem there was no raven, just a guilty mad man who s imagination overcame him, the guilt and regret of never being able to see his perfect maiden again pushes him closer and closer towards insanity until he snaps. I believe that there was no raven in this story at all, just a man cursing life itself for his hardships. In the poem the narrator says to the raven, Get thee back into the tempest and the Night s Plutonian shore! The time of the play is at midnight in December, midnight is traditionally the darkest most eerie time of day, and nothing lives in the winter, everything is gloomy and lacking life and color. • 41. Dynamic Data Driven Selection Of Sensor Streams On Dynamic Data Driven Selection of Sensor Streams This paper covers the online sensor selection in which the sensor network and relations between sensors dynamically change by time and a model which is working for selection of sensors at time may not work for the sensor selection at time , . The selection model of this paper is similar to model discussed in section 3 (i.e. Online distributed sensor selection) but it is based on a well defined special centralized algorithm (central server calculates the utility function and decides which sensors should be selected). The main goal of the sensor selection is to preserve battery by selecting a subset of sensors for prediction. After the sensors have been selected, their value will be read in multiple turns (i.e. active turns) and it will be used to predict the unselected sensors, then the value of all sensors will be read (i.e. passive turn) and based on that the active set of the next interval will be selected. The art of this paper is to find a way to switch between active and passive selection modes in some specific update intervals (number of active turns before a passive turn) to find the optimized selection of sensors for the next interval of data collection, this way it preserves the power requirement by activating only few sensors for multiple turns and then trying to maintain the active set using the collected data of the passive turns. It accomplishes this task by doing evaluation regression model over multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Apparently, the other passengers felt uncomfortable and frightened by their appearance and the clothes they worn (traditional Indian and Arab clothing) because of its similarity to the terrorist outfit in Hollywood movies. Due to this, they were forced to postpone their departure and book a ticket for the next flight. The representation of Muslims and Islam in the mainstream media such as films has been constantly depicted in a stereotypical way even after the 9/11 incident. Having reviewed more than a thousand films made since 1896, Dr Jack G. The male gaze is prominent in the taking of the photos, Clegg states, It was my chance I had been waiting for. I got the old camera and took some photos, I would have taken more only she started to move a bit, so I had to pack up and get out quick. (95). Mulvey s theory of the male gaze occurs when the audience is put into the perspective of a man, when a scene focuses on such aspects as the curves of a female s body, therefore putting the viewer in the eyes of a male. This is similar to what is happening when Clegg is taking the photographs as he earlier states I took of her dress and her stockings and left on certain articles, just the brassieres and the other so as not to go the whole hog. Marie, his mother, had gained the family access to Louis XIV court through her realtives. Where it is contained: Historically the EEC treaty contained no provision dealing with the concept of supremacy of Community law over the national law of member states. The concept of supremacy was at the forefront of the decision Flaminio Costa v E.N.E.L: just one year after the case in van gend en loos. The case concerned the creation of E.N.E.L an Italian electricity company by the Italian government under a law passed in 1962 to nationalise the electricity industry. Costa refused to pay his electricity bill on the basis that the nationalisation of electricity providers infringed the Italian Constitution and several provisions of the EC treaty. The ECJ in deciding the case stated that: the precedence of community law is confirmed by article 189 (now 288) of the treaty, whereby a regulation shall be binding and directly applicable on all member states. This provision which is subject to no reservation would be quite meaningless if states could unilaterally nullify its effects by means of a legislative measure which could prevail over community law The ECJ went further to comment that the transfer of the member states from their national legal ...
