Essay On Assembly Line Medicine
The assembly line was introduced during the industrial revolution: transforming manufacturing and
allowing technology to flourish. Although this procedure is useful when dealing with machines, it can
be detrimental in more human centered careers namingly medicine, in which the most effective
treatments are those which are tailored to the individual. However, assembly line medicine has been
increasingly implemented into the medical field today. Rather than tailored treatments, a one size fits
all approach is being forced on unwilling doctors. Now, the practice of medicine is much like a broken
machine. Assembly line medicine, the idea that medicine is becoming more procedure based and
requires less on the part of doctors, corrupts medicine. In order to combat this, emphasis should be
placed on healing and there should be decreased bureaucracy. One symptom of assembly line
medicine is the increase of suicide rates among doctors. In today s age, doctors ... Show more content

First, assembly line medicine has caused the rise of malpractice suits, often for trivial matters, leading
to doctor practicing what Peter Ubel deems defensive medicine. In this version of medicine, doctors

avoid being sued. Another side effect is fee for service medicine, in which, The provider is rewarded

Both malpractice suits and fee for service have not only driven up the cost of American healthcare to

Health Reflection Paper
At the age of fifteen, my mother had just finished cooking dinner when I noticed her slurred speech
and incoherent sentences. Flustered by the sequence of events, I dialed 911 for help. On the way to the
hospital, I recall one of the EMS personnel shakily exclaim: her blood glucose is 899, she needs
insulin ASAP. Having no understanding of what any of this meant my anxiety multiplied and I was
eager to understand why these abnormalities were occurring. At the hospital, the doctor addressed my
mother with a sympathetic and yet assuring tone and stated: Latrice, you have type 2 diabetes. He
went on to explain how her body was not utilizing insulin and as a result had high levels of blood
glucose. Although the prescribed medication resulted in dramatic improvements in my mother s
condition, the confusion remained. I had no understanding of her condition or how medication alone
helped to assuage her symptoms. The unanswered questions learned from this shocking experience
precipitated a drive to learn more about the human body and health prevention. To learn more about
the human body and the devastating effects of disease, I began to shadow Dr. Murthy, a forensic
pathologist at the Stark County Coroner s office. Dr. Murthy placed high value in effective
communication to ensure that the patient s family was completely informed of the diagnosis of their
loved ones. During the autopsies, he was thorough, detailed and highly critical of information obtained

Experiment 6
Blackwood Ballistic Pendulum
Jamal Wright, Zachary Floyd, Christopher Wilson
Abstract Our goal of this experiment is to determine muzzle velocity by two methods: 1) employing
uniform linear motion relations, the kinematic equations; 2) using the principles of conservation of
energy and momentum. In this paper, we aim to validate the law of conservation of momentum. We do
so by comparing results from two experiments conducted with a single ballistic launcher/pendulum
apparatus.
Hypothesis: The initial velocity of a ballistic pendulum can be determined using the law of
conservation of momentum. Momentum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the ball hits the ground then y = H (since the positive y axis points downward.) By measuring
the distance of fall and using that acceleration due to gravity, g, the time of flight t = Tflight, can be
calculated with the following transformed kinematic equation:
Tflight = sqrt(2H/g)
The muzzle velocity, vmuzzle, (also the intitial velocity vx0) of the ball after being fired is horizontal.
From a measurement of the range, R, and using the time of flight, the muzzle velocity can be
determined
Vmuzzle = Ravg/Tflight
The second method requires the determination of the muzzle velocity from the principle of
conservation of momentum. The momentum of the ball just before it collides with the pendulum must
equal the momentum of the ball and the pendulum just after the collision, pi = pf. To expand on this
we see:
Mvmuzzle + MV = (m + M)V,
Where m is the mass of the ball, M is the mass of the pendulum and V is the velocity of the ball and
the pendulum together. Note: the velocity of the ball and the pendulum, v, is initially zero. In order to
find the velocity of the ball and the pendulum just after the collision we will use the principle of
conservation of energy. Neglecting friction at the point of support of the pendulum, the gravitational
potential energy must equal the kinetic energy of the ball and the pendulum at the bottom of the

In Defence of Marx s Account of the Nature of Capitalist Exploitation
ABSTRACT: According to Marx, at any given epoch of a given society, [there is] a quantity of
necessaries [recognized as] the necessaries of life habitually required by the average worker. The
variations in the type and amount of goods recognized as necessary for life between different epochs
and different societies is due to the different physical conditions and to the different degrees of
civilization and comfort prevalent. In advanced capitalist societies, the necessities of life include a
heated dwelling, food, clothing, and access to some means of transportation, be it public or private.
However, the average laborer in advanced capitalist societies has ... Show more content on

But the average laborer in advanced capitalist society has access not only to the necessaries of life but
to a variety of luxury items as well. For example, the average worker has access to at least some
subset of the following luxury items: fine food and drink; an automobile; a television set; a hi fi set.
In this paper, I will (I) explain Marx s theory of the nature of capitalist exploitation; and (II) indicate
how the phenomenon described in the previous paragraph may be interpreted as evidence against
Marx s theory, and sketch an interpretation of this phenomenon according to which it is consistent
with Marx s theory. My interpretation will suggest that the average worker s access to luxury items
can be explained by the necessity in capitalism of reproducing the working class.
(I) In some of his early works, Marx suggests that the poverty of the workers goes hand in hand with
capitalist production. For example, in Alienated Labor he claims that in capitalist society, labor
produces marvels for the wealthy but it produces deprivation for the worker (61). Indeed, so much
does the realization of labor appear as diminution [of the worker] that the worker is diminished to the
point of starvation (61).
This view, that as a necessary result of the capitalist mode of production the average

Rain Man ( Johnson Levinson
Rain Man (Johnson Levinson, 1988) follows the story of two brothers, estranged at a young age, who
meet and set out on a road trip that changes their lives. The character with disability, Raymond
Babbitt, is institutionalized for autism after a dangerous hot water accident that involved his younger
brother, Charlie Babbitt. The two meet unexpectedly after the death of their father and embark on an
adventure full of frustrations and reconnection. This was an original screen play by Barry Morrow and
Ronald Bass (Rain Man (1988)) Raymond Babbitt s world is very narrow because of his institutional
upbringing and lack of social interaction. This man with autism is not employed and is extremely
dependent on the individuals around him. He does not have the social skills or comprehension needed
to hold down a job, nor does he have a strong grasp of reality and the complexity of society. It is stated
by his doctor that Raymond does not have the capability to express his feelings; therefore, he is unable
to relate and understand human life as the typically developing person would. Raymond functions
almost robotically, consistently needing a strict schedule. This being said, Raymond is extremely
dependent on the caretakers at the institution for everything in his life, including his meals and
bedtime schedule. He does receive professional aid from Doctor Bruner during his stay at the institute
and psychologist, Doctor Marston, whom he sees after a psychotic break down.

Gerard In Roxane Gay s Short Story Motherfuckers
Different, confused, annoyed and disrespected are just a few words to describe the main character
Gerard in Roxane Gay s short story Motherfuckers. With Gerard originally being from Haiti, he and
his family are forced to find out that immigrating from another country to America, can be a
completely different transition. Moving from one country to another, immigrants are forced to adapt.
American culture only acknowledges certain kinds of education from other countries. This causes his
father to go from being a journalist in Haiti, to working in a place where his coworkers judging him

because, in Gays Motherfuckers she states that Gerard s teacher asked him to say something in French

Societies Destructive Behavior around ‘Normal’
Society places value on a person based either on who they are, what they believe, or how much money
they make. What happens when society places value on how normal a person is? Using the texts of
Merchant of Venice and Taming of the Shrew I will argue that in dealing with difference, society often
unintentionally annihilates it; but what remains in its wake is often far more disturbing. Religion is
one of the most dividing forces in a society. At the time of Merchant of Venice Jews were seen as
everything that was an external threat to England s national welfare. They were known as the enemy
within the English culture. The feudalist Christians viewed them as dirty, obsessed with money, and
willing to do anything, legal or illegal, to gain monetarily. Christians projected an image of themselves
as holding value in people, rather than profit. One of the first places we see a divide between the two
religions is in a conversation between Bassanio and Shylock in which the differences in the values that
Christians versus Jews hold are brought to light: Oh, no, no, no, no: my meaning in saying he is a
good man is to have you understand me that he is sufficient. Yet his means are in supposition: he hath
an argosy bound to Tripolis, another to the Indies; I understand moreover, upon the Rialto, he hath a
third at Mexico, a fourth for England, and other ventures he hath, squandered abroad. But ships are but
boards, sailors but men: there be land rats and

Community College Student Ethics Essay
Ethics and the Portland Community College (PCC) Policy on Student Conduct go hand in hand, as
one refers to doing the right things and the other is a guideline to do the right thing. Ethics is more
than just right and wrong, it encompasses three different attributes that one person or a group of
people can be. They can be moral, immoral, or amoral. These also go hand in hand, with how that
person or group interprets the student conduct policy. The three main areas of the policy for student
conduct I will focus on is, 8. Grounds for Disciplinary Actions, 9. Violations and 10. Removal of a
Student From Class. I agree with all of these policies, because they enforce the rights of people on

would lose revenue if no one attended. People want a campus that is free from threatening behavior,
obscene language and an unproductive learning environment. Furthermore, these policies enable the

Abstract
The challenge of nonprofit leadership can prove to be daunting for even the most optimistic of
individuals. The nonprofit industry is and expanding revolution, a force said to influence national and
global economies. Domestically, the nonprofit sector accounts for more than half of America s general
hospitals, nearly half of its education institutions and most of its family service agencies (Rowe,
2013), opportunities created by economic and political failures. In the wake of rapid development,
environmental pressures, economic impact, and growing challenges, nonprofits are being placed under
a microscope, being pushed to take more strategic approaches to NPO management and to apply
sound business principals. For a novice in nonprofit leadership, such as I, the endeavor of creating a
sustainable organization in such a competitive environment can be intimidating.
In the text, Introduction to Nonprofit Management, Rowe and Conway present the key theories of
NPO management through case studies. The examination of these cases highlight managerial issues
and trends that lead to the success and failures of many NPOs. This paper will analyze the areas of
management most foundationally critical to the survival and growth of a start up nonprofit
organization. Board selection, board governance, and leadership, are the steering wheel

Who Is Sullivan In The Golden Age
Characters in the novel The Golden Age by Joan London who encounter cornering hardships discover
ways in which to free themselves physically, emotionally and psychologically. This is depicted
especially through the character Sullivan, and the ways in which he finds freedom in his imagination,
despite his debilitating circumstances. The protagonist, Frank Gold also manages to locate a source of
liberation amidst his oppression of polio, in the form of love. The devastation of war leaves the Gold
family ostracised in their own country, physically trapped, but they find refuge in Australia.
Sullivan is physically trapped inside an iron lung, but finds freedom in his poetry and his relationship

The Pros And Cons Of Day Labor
The immigrant labor force is the is seen in the eyes of many as a workforce that is hard working and
honest. These individuals are part of a demographic that left homes, loved ones, and old lives behind
to start a new living in a foreign land. This aspect facilitates a mindset of people who aren t here to
play games, so why is their existence something to be toyed with? One of the primary forms of
employment that immigrants gravitate towards is day laboring. And for many immigrants coming into
the United States who find themselves settling in both cities and suburban towns, the day laboring job
market can prove to either be a gift or a curse. Day laboring can be described as unofficial and
unregulated work for hire. In this labor exchange, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
United Workers Congress states in a report on day laborers that, on any given day, at least 117,600
workers in the United States are either looking for day labor jobs or working as day laborers, and
while that number may seem low in the grand scheme of the economy, it should be looked at on a
local level. For example, take a small neighborhood s community from a suburb or city like New
York, The largest concentration of hiring sites and day laborers is in the West, while the Midwest is
the region with the fewest number of sites and workers. The size of individual day labor hiring sites
varies considerably. One third of all sites are small sites (with 25 workers or less), 37 percent are
medium sites (with 26 to 50 job seekers), 23 percent are large sites (with 51 to 100 job seekers) and 7
percent are very large sites (with more than 100 job seekers). If you have a few hundred individuals
who s main form of work is day laboring and these individuals are getting cheated out of their already
low wages, you then have a large portion of the community that is not spending money because they
aren t making any. This lack of being able to support themselves means that there are even more
people in need of government benefits for those who are eligible. In addition, this demographic of
people who are spending less money are not able to support local businesses which causes a loss for

Dugesia Spp Research Paper
Dugesia spp., also known as planaria is a small flat dark brown worm of varying sizes around 0.3 2
cm long and 1 2 mm wide (Palmer and Fowler, 1975 as cited by Cha, 2001). Although they are small,
they are hermaphroditic (Maule, 2006). The middle of the body is darker in color with tiny spots. The
body consists of an arrow shaped head and a long unsegmented body that narrows as it reaches the
posterior end (T. Huang, biology student, personal communications). Midway down the ventral side of
its body, the pharynx is a tube like structure that protrudes out for feeding (Cha, 2001). The body is
smooth and stretches in contracting and expanding movements as the Dugesia spp. travels around a
flat surface (T. Huang, biology student, personal communications). The two side parts of the arrow
that extends out of its head are sensory organs, the auricles (Cha, 2001). The auricles help sense water
currents so that the Dugesia spp. is aware of the direction of water flow (Kriska and Gyorgy, 2013).
Dugesia spp. has tiny eyes called eyespots located on the dorsal side of its arrow head. The eyespots

The Militarization Of Officer Joe Cartoon Analysis

The Militarization of Officer Joe What comes to mind when hearing the word cops? Some may think
safety, others may think violence. It appears that there may be more answers than we first thought. In
the cartoon titled The Militarization of Officer Joe , by MAD Magazine, the topic of police procedures
in early 21 century America is introduced. The cartoon titled The Runaway , published in 1958, was
created by artist Norman Rockwell, depicting his view on 20th Century America. Norman Rockwell
passed away in 1978. In the year 2014, MAD magazine created a new cartoon in the same setting, but
of a completely different view. Many elements of imagery are built into the cartoon, including
balance, symbolism, captions, and emotion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the then side, the caption of the image reads 1958: The Runaway. After reading this I noticed a
small red sack placed under the boy next to the cop. This informs that the boy being spoken to by the
police officer, may in fact be a runaway. Still, the situation does not seem to raise much concern to the
author, or even the police officer in that matter. The focus seems to be on the boy, being that he is most
likely the runaway, and the police officer means to calmly convince him of changing his mind. On the
now side of the cartoon, the caption reads 2014 The Militarization Of Officer Joe. Even the title of this
image is violent. Dressed as though going into military combat, this caption suits the image very well.
The police officer poses a much greater threat to the boy next to him on the now side, compared to the
then side. The captions under each image help to provide a much greater understanding of the message
in this cartoon. While one caption seems to focus on the boy and his well being, the other caption
focuses on the cop, and the violence associated with

The Pros And Cons Of Counterfeiting
If you have ever traveled to another country, you have probably seen vendors on the sidewalks or
streets, selling designer brand goods at a really cheap price. You may have even purchased something
from them. The fashion industry is a 1.2 trillion dollar global industry and employs 1.9 million people
in the United States alone (Maloney, 2015). There is one market that is proving to be detrimental to
this powerhouse industry. The black market of fashion, which produces counterfeit goods that are
being sold at a fraction of the price of the originals.
Whatever the reason a consumer has for purchasing a counterfeit product, that sale will still influence
the global economy. Counterfeiting leads to huge losses for not only the industry, but also a loss of tax
revenue for governments. It is estimated that counterfeiting consists of 5% to 7% of world trade and
produces profits of over 650 billion dollars annually ( Challenges of Selling , 2008). Not only does
counterfeiting steal profits from legitimate retailers, but it also causes loss of jobs, other, more violent
crimes, supports child labor, and puts consumers health at risk (Bell, 2016). Since most illegal
counterfeiting operations are run by organized crime rings, no taxes are paid, and the profits from
selling these goods are often used to support other crimes such as drug and human trafficking, money
laundering and even terrorism. Counterfeit sales in the United States have been directly related to the

Similarities Between To Kill A Mockingbird And The Help
Compare how the theme of courage is explored in To Kill a Mockingbird and The Help?
Mental and moral courage are different types of courage that are demonstrated in To Kill a
Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee and The Help, directed by Tate Taylor. These can be compared
and contrasted by sharing similarities and differences through dialogue, characterisation, plot
techniques and the opinions through the eyes of different characters. These techniques are also used to
help an audience understand the different meanings of courage that are demonstrated in these two
texts.
Courage is expressed by characterisation, dialogue and plot. Showing or explaining the different
personality traits of each character highlights the acts of courage through characterisation.
Characterisation is the main technique that can be compared and contrasted between To Kill a
Mockingbird and The Help. Although every character is different, some of their beliefs, opinions and
actions are similar, which assists in creating a greater understanding of courageous, or cowardly
approaches shown in each character.
Two very courageous characters in The Help and To Kill a Mockingbird are Atticus Finch and
Eugenia Skeeter. Both characters are similar in the way that they both believe they should stand up to
what they believe in by going against the social norms. Atticus Finch defended a black man I m

Summary Of A Room Of One s Own By Virginia Woolf
While searching through history for documented women achievements, Virginia Woolf decided to
speak about how they had way less opportunities than men throughout A Room of One s Own .
Through utilizing diction, imagery, and pathos, Woolf expressed her views on the treatment of women
in the early 20th century while delivering a lecture at a university. She achieved this opening up with

Comparing Steinbeck s The Pearl And Heart Of Darkness
The process of making meaning of a text (analysing). The particular interpretations of a text. Types: 1.
Dominant readings: the natural or intended way to read/interpret a text (authors intentional reading). 2.
Resistant readings: a critical form of reading/interpreting the text which challenges or questions the
underlying assumptions of the text. 3. Alternate readings: a method of reading/interpreting a text by
focusing on the gaps and silences in texts to create meanings varying from the normal (essentially
reads it completely wrong). Different readings of The Secret River, The Pearl and Heart Of Darkness
vary according to different contexts and audiences. Patriarchal /feminist reading This sort of reading

Kino s physical and spiritual existence is intimately connected with the natural world. An important
element of the novella is nature imagery. Kino observes the world of his garden in the opening scene
of Chapter 1 and the world of the ocean in Chapter 2. Kino and Juana s final journey up the mountain
takes place on a dark night full of animal noises and cries. Steinbeck mirrors the human word as he
depicts the natural world as a realm. Collectively, the works of Steinbeck s nature imagery parallels
the natural worlds idyllic innocence to that of Kino s at the beginning of the novella. The natural
world described in the novella s darker qualities, at the end of story, reflect that of the struggle and
fight Kino experiences at the novellas end, once greed, power and wealth had corrupted his soul. For
example there was a parallel created between Kino s relationship to nature and the god s relationship
to Kino (he towers over the ants in the same way that the gods tower over

Evaluation of Murder Essays
Evaluation of Murder
A good law should be clear so both the judge and jury can apply it in a reasonable way, this makes it
easier for the jury to follow and provides a consistent outcome. It should be consistent, if not one
person could do exactly the same crime as another and they could have completely different sentences.
Consistency makes the law fair which is another important element of a good law. The law should
reflect the degree of fault and punish the defendant in a suitable way; this also provides justice for the
family within the law. It should also provide a defence this also makes the law fair and also provides

In Omissions the duty in certain relationships is solely case law, this means you must wait for a case to
happen before you can know whether a duty exists. This means the law might be flexible but it is not
consistent. A possible reform would be to pass legislation setting out the situation where a duty exists.
However, it would be difficult to come up with a definitive list. The law commission report in 1993
suggests only omissions would count in serious offences against a person.
For the mens rea there is a problem with the wording, malice aforethought either expressed or implied
. Lord Gibbord 1988 said malice aforethought was misleading as you don t need to have malice (i.e.
spite) or aforethought (i.e. planned or premeditated). The Mens Rea for murder is interpreted as an
intention to kill or cause GBH. This is a common law definition and is subject to change, making it
flexible but also causing uncertainty.
There are problems with intention also because it has never properly been defined and cases like
Moloney and Hyam only set out guidelines and judges tend to alter between the two. This causes
confusion and uncertainty and leads to jury s verdicts being unfair and inconsistent. It also means that
the decision is opened up and leads to members of the jury being influenced by personal prejudices.
The mens rea of implied malice means a defendant can be convicted

The Decent Society By Avishai Margalit
The Decent Society
Avishai Margalit begins his book with a definition of a decent society, which according to him is such
a society that does not institutionally humiliate its members and people in its orbit. In other words, it is
a society that does not violate the rights of people that are dependent on it. Regarding institutions, he
distinguished between their actual behaviour and the behaviour that they should perform according to
the law. Society is then defined as a nation. He admits that there are also other forms of society but for
the purpose of this book he will keep it as a nation because nation has an especially great potential for
institutional humiliation.
A decent society is further compared with a civilized society. Civilized society is defined as one whose
members do not humiliate one another, while a decent society is one in which the institutions do not
humiliate its members. The main difference is that regarding the concept of a just society we speak
about the relationship that individuals have with each other unlike regarding a decent society we
consider the relationship between people and their institutions and therefore we speak about the setup
of the society as a whole.
The book and then addresses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important comparison is between a decent society and a just society. Every just society must
be a decent one but the opposite does not apply. Only a society with notion of rights can have a
concept of self respect. A decent society is one that does not violate the rights of people dependent on
it. The question is which rights have to be honoured by an institution of a society for it to be
considered a decent one? The violation of which rights provides a sufficient condition for humiliation?
The answer is that it is a minimal condition for people s freedom of action, without which they could
not be considered moral agents. Human rights are symptoms for identifying human

The Joint Commission On Accreditation Of Healthcare...
Abstract The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) core
measures in relation to Heart Failure (HF) was examined using empirical based nursing research.
Findings suggest that lack of understanding by nurses contributes significantly to the privation of core
measure implementation. A significant number of Americans suffer from HF, so patient quality of care
assessment was necessitated. Identifying factors were: nurse patient education resulting in follow up
appointments, left ventricular performance or left ventricular systolic (LVS) function, treatment
medications, and smoking cessation programs. Nurses provide an important role in the education of
patients with HF. The Nurse is integral in providing documentation in relation to LVS. Nurses play an
important role in the administration of HF medication. Smoking, a major cause of HF, requires special
nursing intervention. Nursing results in improved quality of care if HF core measures are implemented
properly. Additionally, Orem s universal requisites are fundamental in the nursing process. Keywords:

Importance Of Controversy In Professional Sports
Lots of people and families watch football every weekend, and it is one of the most popular sports in
the United States, but could some team names be racist and derogatory. Teams such as the Redskins
should be required by the NFL to change their name because of several reasons. First off, lots of
people all over the U.S. think the term Redskin is rude, and should be changed. Second, there would
be some benefits to changing the name, and third being that the name is offensive and derogatory to
Native Americans.
There has been a lot of controversy over the Washington Redskins name lately. Some people believe
the Redskins name is derogatory to Native Americans, and even say it is a racial slur. Fifty United
states senators out of one hundred have argued that the name should be changed. This shows how big
of a deal this dispute over the Redskins team has become. Also Tom Cole and Betty McCollum, part
of the congressional Native American caucus (CNAC), and 8 other Congress members even sent a
letter to the NFL telling them to change the football teams name. Therefore, some people believe,
including people in government positions, that changing Washington s football team name is a good
thing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Preventive Approach Of The First Policing System Essay
Since the emergence of the first policing systems, there have been many different types emerge
throughout different periods in history. The three main types of policing have been preventative,
reactive, and proactive. These were each created in their own times to help combat crime or to aid the
publics general safety. Each were suited to society s needs at the time, the technology, and the
diversity of the people. The preventative approach focuses on preventing future crime. To do this the
police use methods such as patrolling areas where crime rates are higher to deter criminals. The
reactive approach was more of a crime fighting mentality, where the focus was on arrest rates and
response times. Police officers were very detached from general society and the us vs them mentality
was strong within the force. The reactive policing style came about due to the technological
advancements being made in the field such as having patrol cars instead of foot patrols, thus, taking
the officers out of the public (Goff, 2017).
Proactive policing began to emerge in the 1970 s in a hope to rebuild the publics relationship and trust
in the police officers through the idea of policing by consent. This method of policing requires the
police to control crime through more positive methods and involving the community in the overall
prevention and deterrence of crime. For the purposes of this paper I will be focusing on the proactive
style of policing, and more specifically community policing

Turnover Mechanisms
Turnover mechanisms such as ubiquitination must be carefully regulated, as it is very significant in
metabolic regulation, and removing errors which arise during the transcription and translating process,
as well as protein activation and degradation which is necessary for some signalling pathways.
Proteins that are targeted for degradation use energy from ATP hydrolysis to form an isopeptide bond
between the targeted protein and ubiquitin. In addition, the activated carboxyl terminal glycine of
ubiquitin is covalently bonded to the ε amino groups in multiple Lys located in the protein.
Ubiquitin is composed of 3 enzyme units, which facilitate the breakdown of proteins into amino acids,
these are E1: ubiquitin activating enzyme, E2: ubiquitin conjugating enzyme and E3: ubiquitin protein
ligase. Once targeted proteins are marked by ubiquitin for degradation, a proteasome will digest the
protein and break it down into its constituent amino acids, while the ubiquitin is cleaved off and
recycled for future use. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Foreign Realtors Are Different
2. How Foreign Realtors Are Different
The first thing to realize is that realtors in various countries differ a lot in the ways they work and
charge commission on sale; real estate sellers have to know about their own country s realtors and the
countries they target for bringing the foreign buyers from over there as well. Even the words realtor or
real estate agent may mean not the same thing in different countries in terms of the duties and
responsibilities of such real estate professionals. By the way, throughout this e book we will use these
words interchangeably although it may be not really correct in some jurisdictions. As a realtor you

Also the difference between the work that seller s and buyer s realtors perform should be always taken
into consideration. If you hire a local realtor to sell your property commission based, or you are this
seller s realtor yourself, then the realtor s duty will be to market, advertise and promote the property
for sale at the own realtor s expense most of the time (hoping for a sizable commission at closing). It
is a different picture with a foreign realtor. Usually as a private seller you offer foreign realtors to find
a buyer for your property for sale and promise to pay a commission on sale, or as a local realtor for the
property you offer the foreign realtors a commission split on sale if they refer a foreign buyer to you.
Obviously, the foreign realtor will usually act as a buyer s

required to forgive, but evil was ever present (Ms. Herrera notes) and Man was to live in hope of
eternal salvation, but he may not be predetermined by God. (Ms. Herrera notes). These are some
beliefs for all the people that are living with The Puritans. The beliefs of Puritans were something too
challenging. The puritans have other religious ideas has Life is a test : winners go to Heaven; losers go

somebody would communicate with the evil or do something that is not good for the society would go
to hell and be punished for his entire life and the soul of the person would be cursed to be on hell and
feel so sorry about himself/herself. Therefore, how did religion affected the Puritan community? The
community before the Puritans came to North America in 1600 s the community was really calm and
the people were Christians. But then The Puritans changed a lot the community has rules, policies,

Queen V Dudley and Stephens
There are many possibilities and options I could have taken if I were in Dudley s shoes. Murder
Parker, and feed on him; ask for Parker s consent to kill and consume him; take a vote, or a lottery and
then feed on the selected one, assuming there was consensus to the vote or lottery and to its outcome.
However, if I had a choice, there would have been no murder, but perhaps an act of cannibalism, if say
the boy, Parker, died naturally. Using Kant s categorical imperative, I believe that murder, in any way,
aside from self defense, is morally wrong.
Kant s categorical imperative refers to the supreme principle of morality whereby it is morally

Since I have already proven that the killing of Parker was intended murder in the previous paragraph,
this shows that through the murder, Parker s rights to live was deprived. He, being a young boy of
seventeen, eighteen, would have his own aspirations and dreams and he was deprived of that right to
live and fulfill those dreams, just because he was weaker than the other three men. Furthermore, he
was not consulted at all about his death. This will be discussed in the later paragrah. The rights of
human beings therefore, are much more important than fulfilling the happiness of the stakeholders in
this case, the family and friends of the men, the men themselves, the general public, and human right
activists.
In this situation, the four themselves would not want to die. For the three men, their families and
friends would lose a loved one if any of them died. Assuming in those days, the father usually is the
breadwinner of the family, losing him, would thus mean that the family would lose a source of
income, and bread and butter on their table. This may lead to the mother having to work, or in a more
severe situation, the children may have to work as well. Moreover, having a father figure in the family
is important for a home to be wholesome. Losing Parker, on the other hand, will not have such
consequences as he being an orphan would not

going to be like being in a very different culture with people you had never seen before. As a blond,

diversity. The only thing I knew was that the Caribbean was far, ... Show more content on

How does Miller make the audience sympathise with Eddie from A view from the Bridge ? In the

  • 2. Essay On Assembly Line Medicine The assembly line was introduced during the industrial revolution: transforming manufacturing and allowing technology to flourish. Although this procedure is useful when dealing with machines, it can be detrimental in more human centered careers namingly medicine, in which the most effective treatments are those which are tailored to the individual. However, assembly line medicine has been increasingly implemented into the medical field today. Rather than tailored treatments, a one size fits all approach is being forced on unwilling doctors. Now, the practice of medicine is much like a broken machine. Assembly line medicine, the idea that medicine is becoming more procedure based and requires less on the part of doctors, corrupts medicine. In order to combat this, emphasis should be placed on healing and there should be decreased bureaucracy. One symptom of assembly line medicine is the increase of suicide rates among doctors. In today s age, doctors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, assembly line medicine has caused the rise of malpractice suits, often for trivial matters, leading to doctor practicing what Peter Ubel deems defensive medicine. In this version of medicine, doctors tend to order many tests, prescribe ineffective medicines, and call in specialists to check their work to avoid being sued. Another side effect is fee for service medicine, in which, The provider is rewarded for customer encounters, procedures delivered, and boxes checked in the health record. S/he makes more money by doing this as fast as possible ... Assembly line medicine is alive and well (Hixon). Both malpractice suits and fee for service have not only driven up the cost of American healthcare to one of the most expensive in the world, they have resulted in unnecessary exposure to radiation in cases where doctors subject their patients to useless ... • 3. Health Reflection Paper At the age of fifteen, my mother had just finished cooking dinner when I noticed her slurred speech and incoherent sentences. Flustered by the sequence of events, I dialed 911 for help. On the way to the hospital, I recall one of the EMS personnel shakily exclaim: her blood glucose is 899, she needs insulin ASAP. Having no understanding of what any of this meant my anxiety multiplied and I was eager to understand why these abnormalities were occurring. At the hospital, the doctor addressed my mother with a sympathetic and yet assuring tone and stated: Latrice, you have type 2 diabetes. He went on to explain how her body was not utilizing insulin and as a result had high levels of blood glucose. Although the prescribed medication resulted in dramatic improvements in my mother s condition, the confusion remained. I had no understanding of her condition or how medication alone helped to assuage her symptoms. The unanswered questions learned from this shocking experience precipitated a drive to learn more about the human body and health prevention. To learn more about the human body and the devastating effects of disease, I began to shadow Dr. Murthy, a forensic pathologist at the Stark County Coroner s office. Dr. Murthy placed high value in effective communication to ensure that the patient s family was completely informed of the diagnosis of their loved ones. During the autopsies, he was thorough, detailed and highly critical of information obtained from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Blackwood Ballistic Pendulum Experiment 6: Blackwood Ballistic Pendulum September 18, 2013 Jamal Wright Zachary Floyd Christopher Wilson Experiment 6 Blackwood Ballistic Pendulum Jamal Wright, Zachary Floyd, Christopher Wilson Abstract Our goal of this experiment is to determine muzzle velocity by two methods: 1) employing uniform linear motion relations, the kinematic equations; 2) using the principles of conservation of energy and momentum. In this paper, we aim to validate the law of conservation of momentum. We do so by comparing results from two experiments conducted with a single ballistic launcher/pendulum apparatus. Hypothesis: The initial velocity of a ballistic pendulum can be determined using the law of conservation of momentum. Momentum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the ball hits the ground then y = H (since the positive y axis points downward.) By measuring the distance of fall and using that acceleration due to gravity, g, the time of flight t = Tflight, can be calculated with the following transformed kinematic equation: Tflight = sqrt(2H/g) The muzzle velocity, vmuzzle, (also the intitial velocity vx0) of the ball after being fired is horizontal. From a measurement of the range, R, and using the time of flight, the muzzle velocity can be determined Vmuzzle = Ravg/Tflight The second method requires the determination of the muzzle velocity from the principle of conservation of momentum. The momentum of the ball just before it collides with the pendulum must equal the momentum of the ball and the pendulum just after the collision, pi = pf. To expand on this we see: Mvmuzzle + MV = (m + M)V, Where m is the mass of the ball, M is the mass of the pendulum and V is the velocity of the ball and the pendulum together. Note: the velocity of the ball and the pendulum, v, is initially zero. In order to find the velocity of the ball and the pendulum just after the collision we will use the principle of conservation of energy. Neglecting friction at the point of support of the pendulum, the gravitational potential energy must equal the kinetic energy of the ball and the pendulum at the bottom of the ... • 5. In Defence of Marx s Account of the Nature of Capitalist... In Defence of Marx s Account of the Nature of Capitalist Exploitation ABSTRACT: According to Marx, at any given epoch of a given society, [there is] a quantity of necessaries [recognized as] the necessaries of life habitually required by the average worker. The variations in the type and amount of goods recognized as necessary for life between different epochs and different societies is due to the different physical conditions and to the different degrees of civilization and comfort prevalent. In advanced capitalist societies, the necessities of life include a heated dwelling, food, clothing, and access to some means of transportation, be it public or private. However, the average laborer in advanced capitalist societies has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the average laborer in advanced capitalist society has access not only to the necessaries of life but to a variety of luxury items as well. For example, the average worker has access to at least some subset of the following luxury items: fine food and drink; an automobile; a television set; a hi fi set. In this paper, I will (I) explain Marx s theory of the nature of capitalist exploitation; and (II) indicate how the phenomenon described in the previous paragraph may be interpreted as evidence against Marx s theory, and sketch an interpretation of this phenomenon according to which it is consistent with Marx s theory. My interpretation will suggest that the average worker s access to luxury items can be explained by the necessity in capitalism of reproducing the working class. (I) In some of his early works, Marx suggests that the poverty of the workers goes hand in hand with capitalist production. For example, in Alienated Labor he claims that in capitalist society, labor produces marvels for the wealthy but it produces deprivation for the worker (61). Indeed, so much does the realization of labor appear as diminution [of the worker] that the worker is diminished to the point of starvation (61). This view, that as a necessary result of the capitalist mode of production the average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Rain Man ( Johnson Levinson Rain Man (Johnson Levinson, 1988) follows the story of two brothers, estranged at a young age, who meet and set out on a road trip that changes their lives. The character with disability, Raymond Babbitt, is institutionalized for autism after a dangerous hot water accident that involved his younger brother, Charlie Babbitt. The two meet unexpectedly after the death of their father and embark on an adventure full of frustrations and reconnection. This was an original screen play by Barry Morrow and Ronald Bass (Rain Man (1988)) Raymond Babbitt s world is very narrow because of his institutional upbringing and lack of social interaction. This man with autism is not employed and is extremely dependent on the individuals around him. He does not have the social skills or comprehension needed to hold down a job, nor does he have a strong grasp of reality and the complexity of society. It is stated by his doctor that Raymond does not have the capability to express his feelings; therefore, he is unable to relate and understand human life as the typically developing person would. Raymond functions almost robotically, consistently needing a strict schedule. This being said, Raymond is extremely dependent on the caretakers at the institution for everything in his life, including his meals and bedtime schedule. He does receive professional aid from Doctor Bruner during his stay at the institute and psychologist, Doctor Marston, whom he sees after a psychotic break down. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What happens when society places value on how normal a person is? Using the texts of Merchant of Venice and Taming of the Shrew I will argue that in dealing with difference, society often unintentionally annihilates it; but what remains in its wake is often far more disturbing. Religion is one of the most dividing forces in a society. At the time of Merchant of Venice Jews were seen as everything that was an external threat to England s national welfare. They were known as the enemy within the English culture. The feudalist Christians viewed them as dirty, obsessed with money, and willing to do anything, legal or illegal, to gain monetarily. Christians projected an image of themselves as holding value in people, rather than profit. One of the first places we see a divide between the two religions is in a conversation between Bassanio and Shylock in which the differences in the values that Christians versus Jews hold are brought to light: Oh, no, no, no, no: my meaning in saying he is a good man is to have you understand me that he is sufficient. Yet his means are in supposition: he hath an argosy bound to Tripolis, another to the Indies; I understand moreover, upon the Rialto, he hath a third at Mexico, a fourth for England, and other ventures he hath, squandered abroad. Community College Student Ethics Essay Ethics and the Portland Community College (PCC) Policy on Student Conduct go hand in hand, as one refers to doing the right things and the other is a guideline to do the right thing. Trends And Issues Of Non Profit Management Essay Sammy Sanchez ADMN 631 Trends and Issues in Non Profit Management Prof. Travis Hardmon Trinity Washington University 10/02/16 Abstract The challenge of nonprofit leadership can prove to be daunting for even the most optimistic of individuals. The nonprofit industry is and expanding revolution, a force said to influence national and global economies. Domestically, the nonprofit sector accounts for more than half of America s general hospitals, nearly half of its education institutions and most of its family service agencies (Rowe, 2013), opportunities created by economic and political failures. In the wake of rapid development, environmental pressures, economic impact, and growing challenges, nonprofits are being placed under a microscope, being pushed to take more strategic approaches to NPO management and to apply sound business principals. For a novice in nonprofit leadership, such as I, the endeavor of creating a sustainable organization in such a competitive environment can be intimidating. In the text, Introduction to Nonprofit Management, Rowe and Conway present the key theories of NPO management through case studies. The examination of these cases highlight managerial issues and trends that lead to the success and failures of many NPOs. Dugesia Spp Research Paper Dugesia spp., also known as planaria is a small flat dark brown worm of varying sizes around 0.3 2 cm long and 1 2 mm wide (Palmer and Fowler, 1975 as cited by Cha, 2001). Although they are small, they are hermaphroditic (Maule, 2006). The middle of the body is darker in color with tiny spots. The body consists of an arrow shaped head and a long unsegmented body that narrows as it reaches the posterior end (T. Huang, biology student, personal communications). You may have even purchased something from them. The fashion industry is a 1.2 trillion dollar global industry and employs 1.9 million people in the United States alone (Maloney, 2015). There is one market that is proving to be detrimental to this powerhouse industry. The black market of fashion, which produces counterfeit goods that are being sold at a fraction of the price of the originals. Whatever the reason a consumer has for purchasing a counterfeit product, that sale will still influence the global economy. It is estimated that counterfeiting consists of 5% to 7% of world trade and produces profits of over 650 billion dollars annually ( Challenges of Selling , 2008). Not only does counterfeiting steal profits from legitimate retailers, but it also causes loss of jobs, other, more violent crimes, supports child labor, and puts consumers health at risk (Bell, 2016). The Preventive Approach Of The First Policing System Essay Since the emergence of the first policing systems, there have been many different types emerge throughout different periods in history. The three main types of policing have been preventative, reactive, and proactive. These were each created in their own times to help combat crime or to aid the publics general safety. Each were suited to society s needs at the time, the technology, and the diversity of the people. The preventative approach focuses on preventing future crime. To do this the police use methods such as patrolling areas where crime rates are higher to deter criminals. The reactive approach was more of a crime fighting mentality, where the focus was on arrest rates and response times. Police officers were very detached from general society and the us vs them mentality was strong within the force. The reactive policing style came about due to the technological advancements being made in the field such as having patrol cars instead of foot patrols, thus, taking the officers out of the public (Goff, 2017). Proactive policing began to emerge in the 1970 s in a hope to rebuild the publics relationship and trust in the police officers through the idea of policing by consent. This method of policing requires the police to control crime through more positive methods and involving the community in the overall prevention and deterrence of crime. For the purposes of this paper I will be focusing on the proactive style of policing, and more specifically community policing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Turnover Mechanisms Turnover mechanisms such as ubiquitination must be carefully regulated, as it is very significant in metabolic regulation, and removing errors which arise during the transcription and translating process, as well as protein activation and degradation which is necessary for some signalling pathways. Proteins that are targeted for degradation use energy from ATP hydrolysis to form an isopeptide bond between the targeted protein and ubiquitin. In addition, the activated carboxyl terminal glycine of ubiquitin is covalently bonded to the ε amino groups in multiple Lys located in the protein. Ubiquitin is composed of 3 enzyme units, which facilitate the breakdown of proteins into amino acids, these are E1: ubiquitin activating enzyme, E2: ubiquitin conjugating enzyme and E3: ubiquitin protein ligase. Once targeted proteins are marked by ubiquitin for degradation, a proteasome will digest the protein and break it down into its constituent amino acids, while the ubiquitin is cleaved off and recycled for future use. ... • 35. How Foreign Realtors Are Different 2. How Foreign Realtors Are Different The first thing to realize is that realtors in various countries differ a lot in the ways they work and charge commission on sale; real estate sellers have to know about their own country s realtors and the countries they target for bringing the foreign buyers from over there as well. Even the words realtor or real estate agent may mean not the same thing in different countries in terms of the duties and responsibilities of such real estate professionals. By the way, throughout this e book we will use these words interchangeably although it may be not really correct in some jurisdictions. Also the difference between the work that seller s and buyer s realtors perform should be always taken into consideration. If you hire a local realtor to sell your property commission based, or you are this seller s realtor yourself, then the realtor s duty will be to market, advertise and promote the property for sale at the own realtor s expense most of the time (hoping for a sizable commission at closing). It is a different picture with a foreign realtor. Usually as a private seller you offer foreign realtors to find a buyer for your property for sale and promise to pay a commission on sale, or as a local realtor for the property you offer the foreign realtors a commission split on sale if they refer a foreign buyer to you. • 37. Queen V Dudley and Stephens There are many possibilities and options I could have taken if I were in Dudley s shoes. Murder Parker, and feed on him; ask for Parker s consent to kill and consume him; take a vote, or a lottery and then feed on the selected one, assuming there was consensus to the vote or lottery and to its outcome. However, if I had a choice, there would have been no murder, but perhaps an act of cannibalism, if say the boy, Parker, died naturally. Using Kant s categorical imperative, I believe that murder, in any way, aside from self defense, is morally wrong. Kant s categorical imperative refers to the supreme principle of morality whereby it is morally essential that we adhere to this principle in all circumstances, independent of whether or ... Since I have already proven that the killing of Parker was intended murder in the previous paragraph, this shows that through the murder, Parker s rights to live was deprived. He, being a young boy of seventeen, eighteen, would have his own aspirations and dreams and he was deprived of that right to live and fulfill those dreams, just because he was weaker than the other three men. Furthermore, he was not consulted at all about his death. This will be discussed in the later paragrah. The rights of human beings therefore, are much more important than fulfilling the happiness of the stakeholders in this case, the family and friends of the men, the men themselves, the general public, and human right activists. In this situation, the four themselves would not want to die. For the three men, their families and friends would lose a loved one if any of them died. Assuming in those days, the father usually is the breadwinner of the family, losing him, would thus mean that the family would lose a source of income, and bread and butter on their table. This may lead to the mother having to work, or in a more severe situation, the children may have to work as well. Moreover, having a father figure in the family is important for a home to be wholesome. Losing Parker, on the other hand, will not have such consequences as he being an orphan would not ... With that being said, we had a long 14 hour flight ahead of us, but the sky was blue and we were all filled up with excitement as to what would come next. I had never been in the Caribbean before and I did not know what to except. As we sat impatiently waiting to board our plane, I started writing my diary for the trip. Because we were going to be away for a good month or even more, I had to write a diary of my experiences and what I learned so that I could turn it in when I got back to school. As I began writing, I started to brainstorm of what I thought it was going to be like being in a very different culture with people you had never seen before. As a blond, young girl, I did not know much about different cultures as I am from a country with very little diversity. The only thing I knew was that the Caribbean was far, ...
