Essay about A Greater Intelligence Revealed in Dwellings
A Greater Intelligence Revealed in Dwellings
Linda Hogan writes in her preface to Dwellings that there is a terrestrial intelligence that lies beyond
our human knowing and grasping. This is the main point that is constantly reiterated throughout the
book, and this is the point that makes the book so important.
The trouble with the earth today is that humans have become too smart; so smart that they question
everything they once took for granted, and being unable to explain it, discount it as unreal. Science,
the very thing that has catapulted us into our present state of greatness, is also the human evil that has
isolated us from everything we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consider even our connotations with the word environment. Today, the word means nature, the wild,
the earth, our failing ecosystem. Is this really our environment? We are so removed from it that most
people cannot stand to be in it, except to view its anomalies like those at Yellowstone from isolation
tank like recreational vehicles.
Hogan takes things that happen in the human sphere and turns them inside out, showing us the
sociological innards that expose the enormous distance between what we know and what we think we
know. Her example of chimpanzees shows us something scientists have been trying to hide. In
teaching them sign language, we realize they have feelings, opinions, and know what s going on
around them. They aren t just like ignorant babies with an instinct to eat and mate. People frequently
make exceptions for their dogs. They believe their dogs understand what they tell them, that their dogs
care what kind of dog food they get, that they feel jealousy when the cat gets attention. Imagine if
people felt this kind of empathy and respect to every species on the planet. Hogan deliberately picks
out animals that are displeasing to most people, bats, snakes, wolves, maggots, ants, and writes about
them as living, loving animals just like the rest of us. They are aware of the process that we have long
forgotten.
I was thinking about birds the other day. There were several of them feeding at my bird

Woolworths believes their existence is directly linked to the global environment as well its
community. In carrying out its activities, Woolworths believes it must maintain respect for human
dignity, and strive towards a society where the global environment is protected. Woolworths are
committed in understanding how people feel, their fears and their needs and aligning the business s
focus into addressing those needs in order to build both loyalty from customers and effort from
employees (ICAA, 2011).
In order to be sustainable over the long term, Woolworths has made sure that their success doesn t
come at the expense of the society, economy and environment as they are a part of it (ICAA, 2011).
They believe it not only involves responsibility to understand and manage their impacts, but also gives
them an opportunity to achieve lasting and beneficial change that extends beyond their operations
(ICAA, 2011).
Corporate Stakeholders of Woolworths

Mental Health Professional With Multiple Years
This paper is an overview of mental health professional with several years experience to be a
consultant to a local district superintendent. Based on information gather from a phone call from the
superintendent regarding three students and a teacher that was severely stabbed by a student. This has
been in the media for about two weeks. During this time, the superintendent has been receiving
complaints from people in the community, parents and teacher stating that security measures are not
adequate and that discipline for the student are lax. My responsibility as a MHP consultant is to
develop a plan of action, intervention and my recommendation to the superintendent. To help improve
communication within the community about the school, student, teachers and administrate staffs. I.

received from the superintendent. About the Myrick s approach (1) identify the problems clearly, (2)
clarify the situation, (3) determine the desired outcome, (4) gather any needed information, (5)
develop a plan of action, and (6) evaluate and revise as needed. The Egin model I would ask (1) what
would you like to discuss, (2) What you want to do about it and, (3) How do we get there? As a MHP

Mission Statement On Community And Community Service In...
I hope you are doing well. As one of the members of the youth, I would like to address a concern of
mine involving the youth group. Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a
whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service
important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in community outreach
to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community
outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our
church s presence in our community.
Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the
coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems
as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much
embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have
become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think
over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our job as a
youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To overcome and rise
above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and promoting
community outreach opportunities is so important.

Dorm Room Analysis
Being at a military academy our dorm rooms are supposed to be uniform and sparkling clean. My
dorm room looks similar to the numerous others at this academy, but it includes minute touches that
molds the room into my own. First off, the thing I remember most about my room is the cleanliness
and purity of the room, but yet it still somehow manages to have that appearance of being worn and
exhausted. The smell of Lysol smacks me right in the face along with the hint of mustiness in the air.
In addition to the smell I hear the slight hum of the air conditioner running nonstop, which leads the
room to feel as if I am in the freezer section at Walmart. The next element of the room I notice is the
floors. Even if I had just mopped the floors they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rack is crisp and squared away. The hospital corners appear to be drawn on the bed they are so
perfect. They are at forty five degrees coming down from the corner. At the end of the rack is the foot
blanket folded into thirds with the edge lined up exactly with the edge of the rack. Both the foot
blanket and blanket on the bed are made out of the same itchy material. When I touch them the first
thing that comes to mind is a one size to small turtle neck sweater that your grandmother netted for
you. On top of the foot blanket is a khaki garrison cover with the top folded in, and is also lined up
with the edge of the foot blanket. With the dark ocean blue blanket folded back eighteen inches, the
rack looks as if it should be mounted on a wall for its pristineness. Located under the rack is the
bookshelf. It too is exactly and meticulously organized. The books are on the left hand side aligned
with the edge of the shelf in decreasing height order from left to right. In the middle of the shelf are
my binders which are stacked on top of each other with the bottom one being orange and proceeding
up, scarlet, banana yellow, midnight black and light ocean blue. Then on the far right is the hp printer,
with all the wires running behind the rack, to increase the simplicity of the room. The printer is
slightly longer than the bookshelf so it sticks out taking away from the perfection of the

Spanking A Child Essay
The textbook defines physical child abuse as, any act that results in a nonaccidental physical injury by
a person who has care, custody, or control of a child (p.157). Many people disagree on what the term
child abuse means. Yelling at a child or spanking a child is not considered child abuse based on this
definition. However it is possible that spanking a child can cause injury, but most medical and legal
authorities will not consider it child abuse unless the force is sufficient to leave marks. A number of
parents spank their children in order to teach them discipline when they do not listen or act out, but
because of the controversial question of whether or not spanking is child abuse most parents have
sought other forms of discipline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Committee on the Rights of the Child in the General Comment No. 8 defines corporal punishment
as, any punishment in which physical force is used and intended to cause some degree of pain or
discomfort, however light. Most involves hitting ( smacking , slapping , spanking ) children, with the
hand or with an implement (unicef website). Corporal punishment has been used in schools as a
method of discipline and as a form of punishment for committing a crime. Some people will say that
corporal punishment is no different from physical abuse, because your intending to cause some degree
of pain or discomfort. However from my personal experience I went to an elementary school where
they were allowed to spank the children as long as the child s parents had signed an approval form. So
needless to say if I ever got sent down to the principles officer for acting out or being bad my parents
gave the principle permission to spank me. I believe that there is a difference between corporal
punishment and physical abuse. Corporal punishment is a method of disciplining a child or person for
acting out or for committing a crime, whereas physical abuse is causing nonaccidnetal physical injury
for no apparent reason. My parents raised me to know that if I did something bad I was bound to get a
butt whooping so I knew that if I did the same thing

Examples Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish
John Steinbeck suggests that to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to
himself . Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth defect, such as a
birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the world around them or
lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is not visible to others in
society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a severe case of PTSD after
returning from war that causes his actions to seem abnormal to those around him, even his family.
Furthermore, Seymour finds that the actions of those around him, the materialistically obsessed, are
difficult for him to cope with. In J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish , Salinger depicts how
life is for the monsters like Seymour in such a materialistic society. Seymour, a seemingly normal man
to the naked eye, is secluded from the world around him. Searching for an escape from such an
uninviting society, Seymour takes some big grasps for help before committing to his eventual demise.
Salinger begins his depiction of Seymour through disdain before he brings the audience to his heart
breaking conclusion. Salinger indicates that the emotionally fragile cannot survive in a materialistic
and superficial society because society is not willing to accept those who are different. Salinger begins
his short story by depicting a materialistic society; in turn, he creates

The Perks of Being a Wallflower Compare and Contrast Essay
The Perks of being a Wallflower Compare and Contrast The book and the movie for The Perks of

The book is written much differently than the movie. There are lots of scenes that are in the book but
not in the movie and that are in the movie not the book. The movie focuses less on the bigger,
depressing topics than the book does. The characters in the movie are also much different than they

In the movie, the only time you see Charlie crying is at the end, when he blacks out and attempts to
commit suicide. There are many scenes and details that were in the book, but were left out of the
movie, one thing that differentiates the movie from the book, is the change in character s personalities
and the relationships between the characters. In the book, Candace and Charlie seem like they don t
get along extremely well. Like any brother and sister, they fight quite a lot and they get in many
arguments. But Candace seems like she is much meaner to him in the book than she is to him in the
movie. In the movie Candace is much nicer to Charlie, and just nicer in general. Patrick is quite
similar in the movie to how he was in the book, except for his personality. In the book, Patrick seems
less carefree and funny. It seems like he is a jokester, but he can also be very serious at times. While in
the movie he can t be taken seriously and he always is trying to lighten the mood. Even when he and
Brad were going through a rough spot in their relationship, he was still messing around and cracking
jokes. Charlie was the character that is the most different in the book and in the movie. In the book,
Charlie is portrayed as weak, nerdy and extremely awkward. But in the movie he is a tougher
character and he seems a lot less quiet and shy. One way the movie shows that Charlie is not very
weak is how he only cries once at the end. While in the book he cries all

The Music Of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian composer who mastered the range of contemporary
modern instrumental and vocal forms including the symphony, concerto, chamber music, and
especially in the opera.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria. Mozart mom and dad,
stressed about the importance music to their children. Wolfgang received in depth musical training
that by the age of six he was a rising composer and a soon to be keyboard performer. In 1762 Mozart
dad presented him as a performer at the imperial court in Vienna, Austria, and from 1763 to 1766 he
lead both of his children on a continuous musical tour across.
Mozart was the most praised child prodigy of this time as a keyboard performer. He also made a great
impression as a composer. In London he won the admiration of musician Johann Christian Bach and
he was exposed from an early age to different variety of musical styles across Europe.
Although he had great musical ability, Mozart s lack of a normal childhood caused him much
suffering. During his youth, Mozart was constantly in the news and was extravagantly acclaimed by
all. He was well aware of his precious talent and developed an arrogant and overly confident
demeanor. He had little discipline and maturity outside the subject of music. Mozart frequently went
through periods of financial difficulty.
At age 4 Wolfgang himself began keyboard lessons playing without fault and with great sensitivity,
and by age 5 he was

Corruption In Health Care
So far, official and widely accepted studies try to number the impact of corruption on health care
systems in money and economic losses. Huguette Labelle, chair of Transparency International, takes
those numbers to a more understandable and accurate level by stating, The price of corruption in
health care is paid in human suffering (Transparency International, 2006, p. 37). Health care systems
are very complex constructions where corruption takes place on every level (see Figure 1). According
to Transparency International s Global Corruption Report (2006) and William D. Savedoff (2007)
public money is lost e.g. through bribes taken by governmental regulators and professionals, through

Power And Revenge In Just Lather That s All By Gabriel...
Power and revenge are major themes in the short stories Just Lather that s All by Hernando Tellez and
One of these Days by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Both of the protagonists and antagonists in the short
stories get their fair end of being in control and in power. Corrupt power is represented through a
military captain and a Mayor of a town. On the other hand, a barber and a dentist represent civilian
power. This element of power is interchanged several times in these short stories.
TRANSITION WORD*In the story Just Lather that s All the antagonist s name is Captain Torres who
executes rebels who go against him and his crew. In the Captain s perspective, he perceives the rebels
as bad people and in the barber s point of view he believes the Captain is the bad guy. Captain Torrez
walks inside a barbershop and puts his gun into his holster and hangs his weapon up by the door, at the
front of the shop. Captain Torrez and the barber both recognize each other and realize their enemies.
The Captain and the barber don t act upon anything and continue on with their dilemma. The barber
doesn t deny service to the Captain. Therefore, Captain Torrez sits in the barber s chair and at this
point he becomes a customer. There is a reversal of power and the barber becomes in control of the

The Impact Of Police Personality And Coping
Impact of Police Personality and Coping on Perceived Job Stress Currently, there is a lack of research
that connects personality and its impact on stress and coping (Lau, Hem, Berg, Ekeberg, Torgersen,
2006). Research in this area is particularly important for law enforcement because personality can
influence how police interact, react, and cope with stressors (Larsen Buss, 2002). Clearly, police face
a wide array of stressors everyday due to the nature of their job. According to Violanti and Aron
(1994), being a police officer is one of the top three most stressful occupations one can have. How
they deal with that stress can impact the individual officer, the department, and society itself. Research
has shown that many officers use maladaptive coping skills to deal with these stressors (Patterson,
2003). Although police stress has been widely researched, most studies do not look at police stress
over the different stages of their careers and through the different officer ranks. Personality, perceived
stress, and coping may change throughout a police officer s career (Jensen, 2009). Knowing at what
point in the officer s career and at what rank the most stress is experienced will also aid in creating a
preemptive plan. Literature Review What is the police personality, how does it form, and how is it
assessed? Larsen and Buss (2002) define personality as, a set of psychological traits within the
individual that are organized and relatively enduring and that influence

Some concepts involved through the issue are risk, confidentiality, environmental health, conflict of
interest, and loyalty. First, the company and peter s career will be in risk if he reported the oil spill to
the state. Second, the engineering law requires confidentiality therefore it is irrelevant that peter report
such an issue that is confidential in the company. Third, the tests were only taken 400 feet from the
surface of the groundwater, however maybe there is contamination deeper or other marine life were
affected. Four, most important concept is the conflict of interest since Peter had to either obey the
engineering law that requires confidentiality and neglect his morals or obey the state law and lose his
friendship and career. Five, Jesse trusted Peter to keep this mysterious spill between them; he should
be loyal to him since they have a trusting relationship. Additionally, Jesse noted that he cannot have a
consulting engineer who doesn t value client loyalty. On the other hand, there are some unknown facts
in the issue. According to state law all spills must be reported but what about spills that occurred years
ago? Where the effects of spill seem to have dissipated? Is there any gasoline concentration beyond
the 400 feet of gasoline? Is the marine life affected by the spill? Will the gasoline contaminate the
ground water years later? Who is responsible to

math analysis consists of. It was hard for me to understand how one number could just suddenly turn
into something else and how so many symbols were needed. It was confusing. My goal this year was to
understand the kind of person I want to become as I reach adulthood. Junior year was a year full of

Essay about Naturalism in The House of Mirth
Naturalism in The House of Mirth
Challenging the strict deterministic confines of literary naturalism, which hold that the human being is
merely one phenomenon in a universe of material phenomena (Gerard 418), Edith Wharton creates in
The House of Mirth a novel which irrefutably presents the human creature as being subject to a
naturalistic fate but which conveys a looming sense of hope that one may triumph over environment
and circumstance if one possesses a certain strength of will or a simple faith in human possibility.
Because of Wharton s slight deviation from naturalistic conventions, a literary debate exists among
critics as to the validity of viewing The House of Mirth as a novel which embodies ... Show more

Making this theme uniquely hers, however, is Wharton s creation of two characters who are
exceptions to the seemingly ubiquitous law of social determinism (Gerard 410). These characters,
Nettie Struther and Lawrence Selden, one triumphing over her environment through sheer will, the
other transcending it through faith in human possibility, create a small tear in the formidable fabric of
strict naturalism, thus engendering a hope for the triumph of the human spirit.
Edith Wharton develops Lady Bart as a character who is a product of her environment, preyed upon
by circumstance and fate. Lily s name, referring to a highly ornamental flower, immediately creates
the image of a delicate creature who is grown in the rich soils of society and who, if uprooted from
this societal soil, would wither and perish. Lily, as any living organism, is not simply a static figure in
her environment. Instead, she is a true naturalistic character, responsive and subject to the conditions
of her surroundings. For example, when Lily and Selden meet at Bellomont, Lily s beauty expanded
like a flower in sunlight (108) and, her face turned toward him with the soft motion of a flower (109).
Thus, although it can be argued that Lily is not a naturalistic character because of Wharton s emphasis

The Importance Of Heat Waves In Southern California
Normal summer conditions in Southern California are dry, often with extreme heat and low humidity
level of sixty percent. California has been in a cycle of intense heat, drought, and high fire risk.
During the majority of the summer season, individuals in Southern California are at either at an
extreme caution or caution level according to the heat index. The heat index is a tool used to convert
weather temperatures into a more understandable value by accounting for humidity level (Clements
Casani, 2014). The heat index recommends adding fifteen degrees Fahrenheit when in direct sunlight.
Heat waves are defined as prolonged periods of extreme heat (Clements Casani, 2014). According to

Cooling shelters include not only providing access to public cooling spaces, but also encouraging the
utilization of such resources by the homeless. Some cooling spaces include churches, restaurants,
shopping malls, and public libraries. Access to air conditioning can greatly decrease heat related
illnesses and deaths in the vulnerable populations (Eisenman, 2016). This is critical because there is an
association between increase in temperature and cardiovascular mortality (Eisenman, 2016). This
published study showed a negative relationship between heat related mortality and access to cooling
shelters.
It is part of public health nursing to promote prevention. Prevention is essential to prevent heat
illnesses and deaths. Although heat waves cannot be prevented, they can be predicted. Because of their
predictability, their impact on society can be lessesned. It is important to educate the population
regarding ways to protect themselves and prevent themselves during heat waves.
Based on the research provided, it is obvious that the physical health of homeless individuals is

Mental Rotation Of Images Essay
Abstract
The idea of mental imagery has always been a controversial subject in the field of psychology. Many
psychologists have argued that such a concept is impossible to measure because it can not be directly
observed. Though they are right about this, it is not impossible to measure how quickly mental
rotations of images are processed in our brains. Subjects in this experiment were presented two shapes
simultaneously, via computer screen, and asked to make judgement, as quickly as possible, as to
whether the two shapes presented were the same or mirror images. Two different shapes were used in
this experiment, each given as often as the other. During each trial one shape remained stationary and
the other was rotated with varying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of the 66 students 30 took part in the mental rotation condition and 30 in the manual rotation
condition.
As expected, findings showed that there was in fact a strong relationship between the reaction times of
the mental and manual rotations. As the angular disparity of both the mental and manual rotations
increased so did reaction times. In almost all cases manual and mental reaction times matched each
other. It was also observed by Wohlschlager amp; Wohlschlager (1998), that manual object rotation
did not always follow the shortest path. Findings showed that in some trials students rotated images
the longer way around. Thus, it was concluded that mental processes also rotate things the long way
around, since reaction times did not differ much between the two groups, ultimately supporting their
original hypothesis.
Desrocher, Smith amp; Taylor (1995) conducted a similar experiment with intentions of measuring
reaction times. Only in this experiment the independent variable was not mental vs. manual rotation,
but gender. They were interested in seeing if gender differences played a role in regard to reaction
times, when presented with either a letter stimuli or picture stimuli. It has been noted that up to the
present time, there have been no major findings that show any significant difference in the way men
and woman process letter images. In tests, both men and woman performed equally well (Desrocher,

Horniman Horticulture
Background
Horniman Horticulture is a whole sale nursery business that has been owned by Maggie and Bob for
three years. They have seen an increase in business and number of plants grown at the nursery and are
expecting demand to continue to grow. In 2005, the business s profit margin was expected to grow to
5.8% up from 3.1% in 2003. This projected growth seems accurate considering Maggie s conservative
approach with the companies cash balance. Handling the finances, Maggie dislikes debt financing
because of her fear of holding too much inventory and thus not being able to make interest payments.
Since the business relies on good weather conditions with some mature plants taking years to grow,
severe weather can destroy this inventory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Past 2004, net working capital in 2005 was $97,200 which is 1.6x the net income of $60,800. If they
continue to increase their net working capital like they have in the past, the projected net working
capital for 2006 would be $235,900 which would cause them a negative cash balance of 193,000.
When you look at the balance sheet in Exhibit B we can see that the current assets have increased 19%
and total assets increased 14.4%. This is due primarily to the increase in inventory and accounts
receivable. In the four years from 2002 to 2005 inventory has increased 8.7% and accounts receivable
has increased 16.4%. Due to this, the cash balance has decreased from $120,100 all the way down to
$9,400. In addition in 2005, the cash balance went below their comfort level of $10,000 down to
$9,400. This is not meeting their expectation of their 8% minimum of total revenue target.
Financial Ratio Analysis Even though their business was growing significantly, and they were
experiencing a steady increase in revenues, they were seeing a huge decrease in their cash. The reason
for this is because of their recent change to an increase in business from small nurseries. By looking at
the financial ratios, even though they are increasing in sales, you can tell that they are relaxed on their
accounts receivable and credit terms. Each year it takes them longer to collect their money. This is due
to the fact that the carrying cost of inventory is harder for the

Daniel Quinn s Ishmael
The novel Ishmael by Daniel Quinn is a very thought provoking novel about the role of man in this
world. The narrator follows an ad looking for someone who wants to save the world and finds a gorilla
along with a sign that says ¨with man gone, will there be hope for gorilla?¨ This gorilla can
communicate telepathically and becomes the narrator s teacher. In the story people are grouped into
two categories: the takers and the leavers. The takers are civilized people, whereas the leavers are
civilizations such as the Native Americans who live with the earth. The main ideas are that humans are
a part of nature and have to follow the laws of nature, that the Earth in deed was not made for man,
and that humans were not meant to rule the world, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humans have laws saying it is illegal do things like abuse drugs, but laws like this can be changed by
a vote. There needs to have a law like the law of aerodynamics or the law of gravity that is proven to
always be true. Humans need a law telling them the one right way to live. Ishmael points out that all
other creatures follow this law, and to determine what the law is, the narrator must look for what other
creatures do that human do not and visa versa. The narrator comes back having come up with four
laws, and Ishmael accepts the first three. A species should never eliminate their competitors; it is okay
to kill in self defense, but not for the sake of killing. A species must not systematically destroy a
competitor s food source to make more room for themselves. A species may not deny another species
access to food, unless that food is needed for survival. Ishmael reduces these three laws into one law
that states ¨you may compete but you may not wage war¨ (131). Humans have to follow the same laws
of nature that every other animal must

The Child Of Polish Immigrants
Born on April 29, 1938 in Queens New York Bernie Madoff was the child of Polish immigrants.
Madoff showed little interest in his early years for finance. He went on to graduate from Hofstra
University and married soon after. Madoff used a modest $5,000 he had saved and $50,000 borrowed
from his father0in law to begin his investment firm in the 1960s. On December 11, 2008 it all came to
an end. Madoff would go on to plead guilty to 11 felony counts including but not limited to securities
fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, and perjury. Prosecutors would claim that over $170
billion was moved through Madoffs firm over the years, just prior to his arrest 65 billion dollars was
being shown on the financial statements. Bernie Madoff ran what is by extreme measures the largest
Ponzi scheme in world history. His investment company was multinational and at its height handled
more than five percent of the total trading volume on the New York Stock Exchange. Ponzi schemes
are operations in which the operator pays investor returns from new capital paid to the operator by
new investors rather than from profit earned. Ponzi schemes often begin as legitimate investment
businesses until the legitimate investment business fails. Much is still debated as to when Bernie
Madoffs operation become a Ponzi scheme. Bernie Madoffs operation was dependent on feeder funds
to bring in additional money to help the scheme along. Going back to the earliest days of the Madoff

Databases help people reduce time for us by needing to gather all information, processing, and
interpreting data manually. For this we can use the Microsoft Access Program or FileMaker Pro. The
process component is for generating any useful information for decision making. It includes any for
transaction processing in which the banks use to make transactions for any deposits, withdrawals,
payments, cashiers checks, or money orders. For example, anytime there are transactions being
recorded in the computer, it will appear in the journal and will be printed for the end of the shift of the
day once a teller balances out and closes for the day. The information component is the output of the
information systems. For example, information contains qualities such as the timeliness and the
integration of other data information. The personnel information system provides useful information
to carry out any objectives effective for those decision makers. For example, intranets is useful for

Essay Question: #3 Compare and contrast the different ways in which economic development affected
politics in Massachusetts and Virginia in the period from 1607 to 1750.
From all of the colonies that resulted from European expansion and
conquest, perhaps the two most famous would be those of Virginia and
Massachusetts. The economic development of Massachusetts and Virginia
started in the same period of time but had many differences between them.
Each was established by the similar groups of people but they had different
beginnings, also a different view on religion, and different means economic
stability, which created two different politics and economic systems.

The
most obvious difference between the colonies was the religion. The Puritans
believed in self control and no need for excessive profits. Virginia had
problems with embezzling, overcharging, and the use of company laborers.
The second difference between the colonies was the Native American
relations. Virginia had problems with natives from the start. Massachusetts
learned the best ways to survive in the area by watching and having good
relationships with the natives. The third difference was the urban life. Both
societies were impacted with an increase in immigrants, creating a
competition for work. Boston was the worst and people looked to the
community for help. In conclusion, all of the differences resulted in two
economic systems that were successful, but very different.
Both Virginia and Massachusetts had the same goal of colonial
success and stability but their ways about securing the stability and gaining
economic success and wealth reflected their previous established morals
and values . The first difference was the establishment of plantations.
Virginia began to establish plantations for tobacco and Massachusetts was a
seaport. Both began to suffer from the increase of immigrants, which

Sweeney Todd Summary
I. Intro.
The play Sweeney Todd has been performed on numerous stages since 1979. The 1982 version of
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, was directed by Harold Prince. Unfortunately, I
watched a recoded production of the play; the recoding took place in 1982 but was based off the 1979
production. Over all my impression of Sweeney Todd, is that the play has a bitter sweet tone that
supports all the killing, lying, and deceiving that goes on in the play just so that Sweeney Todd could
get his so called revenge.
II. Body Paragraph 1:
a. The scene that has interesting scenery would be one hour and twenty two minutes into the recorded
production. The scene is of Mrs. Lovett s restaurant; her restaurant is packed with people as Toby
serves the guest meat pies. Mrs. Lovett s restaurant has an antique look to it. She has a wooden wall
that has a faded green color painted on it; against the while is a chest, poster, and a door. Mrs. Lovett,
herself standing next to a white bar like table, it is very high. She also has a barrel being supported by
some type of stand in her restaurant. Next to the platform that her restaurant is set up on is a table
were her customers sit and eat he meat pies.
b. The scenery in this moment did provide a sense of location. Based off how the scene was set up
anyone in the audience would ve been able to known that the current location of the play was Mrs.
Lovett s shop.

a. The scene that had very interesting costume

Smoking And Drinking While Pregnant
Smoking and drinking not only damages the user s body, but also causes mental and physical
deformities of the fetus. Drinking alcohol and smoking while pregnant leads to brain damage and birth
deformities of the newborn child. The chance of miscarriage increase along with the possibility of the
baby being born early. A premature birth results in delayed comprehension, behavior problems, and
lung deformities. Specifically, drinking while pregnant leads to growth problems and spinal damage to
the infant. In the long term the individual will need countless surgeries, braces, and pain medications.
Some research has shown that expectant moms who have as little as one drink a week are more likely
than nondrinkers to have children who later exhibit aggressive and delinquent behavior. ... Show more

Intellectual Merit: The goal of this research coordination network (RCN) is to bring together
researchers from the social sciences, computer science, behavioral science and engineering to address
a fundamental research question: how can we design a sociotechnical system of human technology
cooperation that capitalizes on advances in artificial intelligence (AI) to create new pathways to stable
and rewarding employment for everyone? The PIs frame this specific problem as making AI work for
everyone. The PIs motivate the RCN objectives by looking at the development and impact of Artificial
Intelligence from different perspectives: First, designers and developers should consider the ethical

This in parallel to the objective of making technologies more accessible and understandable to the
general workforce. The composition and intellectual work of the Steering Committee reflects a
commitment to social justice and broadening participation in technology oriented careers. In addition,
an important broader impact is the fact that the PIs plan to reach to scholars at early stages in their
careers to ensure that the RCN can have the most impact in spanning the traditional academic silos.
Therefore, improving the economic competitiveness of the American workforce; broadening

lower bound Heidelberg could offer was € 50,000. However that price would give zero profit to

beneficial for Heidelberg to cover some fixed cost.

  • 2. Essay about A Greater Intelligence Revealed in Dwellings A Greater Intelligence Revealed in Dwellings Linda Hogan writes in her preface to Dwellings that there is a terrestrial intelligence that lies beyond our human knowing and grasping. This is the main point that is constantly reiterated throughout the book, and this is the point that makes the book so important. The trouble with the earth today is that humans have become too smart; so smart that they question everything they once took for granted, and being unable to explain it, discount it as unreal. Science, the very thing that has catapulted us into our present state of greatness, is also the human evil that has isolated us from everything we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consider even our connotations with the word environment. Today, the word means nature, the wild, the earth, our failing ecosystem. Is this really our environment? We are so removed from it that most people cannot stand to be in it, except to view its anomalies like those at Yellowstone from isolation tank like recreational vehicles. Hogan takes things that happen in the human sphere and turns them inside out, showing us the sociological innards that expose the enormous distance between what we know and what we think we know. Her example of chimpanzees shows us something scientists have been trying to hide. In teaching them sign language, we realize they have feelings, opinions, and know what s going on around them. They aren t just like ignorant babies with an instinct to eat and mate. People frequently make exceptions for their dogs. They believe their dogs understand what they tell them, that their dogs care what kind of dog food they get, that they feel jealousy when the cat gets attention. Imagine if people felt this kind of empathy and respect to every species on the planet. Hogan deliberately picks out animals that are displeasing to most people, bats, snakes, wolves, maggots, ants, and writes about them as living, loving animals just like the rest of us. They are aware of the process that we have long forgotten. I was thinking about birds the other day. There were several of them feeding at my bird ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Mission Statement On Community And Community Service In... I hope you are doing well. As one of the members of the youth, I would like to address a concern of mine involving the youth group. Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in community outreach to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our church s presence in our community. Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our job as a youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To overcome and rise above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and promoting community outreach opportunities is so important. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Dorm Room Analysis Being at a military academy our dorm rooms are supposed to be uniform and sparkling clean. My dorm room looks similar to the numerous others at this academy, but it includes minute touches that molds the room into my own. First off, the thing I remember most about my room is the cleanliness and purity of the room, but yet it still somehow manages to have that appearance of being worn and exhausted. The smell of Lysol smacks me right in the face along with the hint of mustiness in the air. In addition to the smell I hear the slight hum of the air conditioner running nonstop, which leads the room to feel as if I am in the freezer section at Walmart. The next element of the room I notice is the floors. Even if I had just mopped the floors they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rack is crisp and squared away. Both the foot blanket and blanket on the bed are made out of the same itchy material. When I touch them the first thing that comes to mind is a one size to small turtle neck sweater that your grandmother netted for you. On top of the foot blanket is a khaki garrison cover with the top folded in, and is also lined up with the edge of the foot blanket. With the dark ocean blue blanket folded back eighteen inches, the rack looks as if it should be mounted on a wall for its pristineness. Located under the rack is the bookshelf. It too is exactly and meticulously organized. The books are on the left hand side aligned with the edge of the shelf in decreasing height order from left to right. In the middle of the shelf are my binders which are stacked on top of each other with the bottom one being orange and proceeding up, scarlet, banana yellow, midnight black and light ocean blue. • 8. Spanking A Child Essay The textbook defines physical child abuse as, any act that results in a nonaccidental physical injury by a person who has care, custody, or control of a child (p.157). Many people disagree on what the term child abuse means. Yelling at a child or spanking a child is not considered child abuse based on this definition. However it is possible that spanking a child can cause injury, but most medical and legal authorities will not consider it child abuse unless the force is sufficient to leave marks. A number of parents spank their children in order to teach them discipline when they do not listen or act out, but because of the controversial question of whether or not spanking is child abuse most parents have sought other forms of discipline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Committee on the Rights of the Child in the General Comment No. 8 defines corporal punishment as, any punishment in which physical force is used and intended to cause some degree of pain or discomfort, however light. Most involves hitting ( smacking , slapping , spanking ) children, with the hand or with an implement (unicef website). Corporal punishment has been used in schools as a method of discipline and as a form of punishment for committing a crime. Some people will say that corporal punishment is no different from physical abuse, because your intending to cause some degree of pain or discomfort. However from my personal experience I went to an elementary school where they were allowed to spank the children as long as the child s parents had signed an approval form. So needless to say if I ever got sent down to the principles officer for acting out or being bad my parents gave the principle permission to spank me. I believe that there is a difference between corporal punishment and physical abuse. Corporal punishment is a method of disciplining a child or person for acting out or for committing a crime, whereas physical abuse is causing nonaccidnetal physical injury for no apparent reason. My parents raised me to know that if I did something bad I was bound to get a butt whooping so I knew that if I did the same thing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Examples Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish John Steinbeck suggests that to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to himself . Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth defect, such as a birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the world around them or lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is not visible to others in society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a severe case of PTSD after returning from war that causes his actions to seem abnormal to those around him, even his family. Furthermore, Seymour finds that the actions of those around him, the materialistically obsessed, are difficult for him to cope with. In J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish , Salinger depicts how life is for the monsters like Seymour in such a materialistic society. Seymour, a seemingly normal man to the naked eye, is secluded from the world around him. Searching for an escape from such an uninviting society, Seymour takes some big grasps for help before committing to his eventual demise. Salinger begins his depiction of Seymour through disdain before he brings the audience to his heart breaking conclusion. Salinger indicates that the emotionally fragile cannot survive in a materialistic and superficial society because society is not willing to accept those who are different. Salinger begins his short story by depicting a materialistic society; in turn, he creates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the movie, the only time you see Charlie crying is at the end, when he blacks out and attempts to commit suicide. There are many scenes and details that were in the book, but were left out of the movie, one thing that differentiates the movie from the book, is the change in character s personalities and the relationships between the characters. In the book, Candace and Charlie seem like they don t get along extremely well. Like any brother and sister, they fight quite a lot and they get in many arguments. But Candace seems like she is much meaner to him in the book than she is to him in the movie. In the movie Candace is much nicer to Charlie, and just nicer in general. Patrick is quite similar in the movie to how he was in the book, except for his personality. In the book, Patrick seems less carefree and funny. It seems like he is a jokester, but he can also be very serious at times. While in the movie he can t be taken seriously and he always is trying to lighten the mood. Even when he and Brad were going through a rough spot in their relationship, he was still messing around and cracking jokes. Charlie was the character that is the most different in the book and in the movie. In the book, Charlie is portrayed as weak, nerdy and extremely awkward. The Music Of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian composer who mastered the range of contemporary modern instrumental and vocal forms including the symphony, concerto, chamber music, and especially in the opera. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria. Mozart mom and dad, stressed about the importance music to their children. In London he won the admiration of musician Johann Christian Bach and he was exposed from an early age to different variety of musical styles across Europe. Although he had great musical ability, Mozart s lack of a normal childhood caused him much suffering. During his youth, Mozart was constantly in the news and was extravagantly acclaimed by all. He was well aware of his precious talent and developed an arrogant and overly confident demeanor. He had little discipline and maturity outside the subject of music. • 17. The Impact Of Police Personality And Coping Impact of Police Personality and Coping on Perceived Job Stress Currently, there is a lack of research that connects personality and its impact on stress and coping (Lau, Hem, Berg, Ekeberg, Torgersen, 2006). Research in this area is particularly important for law enforcement because personality can influence how police interact, react, and cope with stressors (Larsen Buss, 2002). Clearly, police face a wide array of stressors everyday due to the nature of their job. According to Violanti and Aron (1994), being a police officer is one of the top three most stressful occupations one can have. How they deal with that stress can impact the individual officer, the department, and society itself. Research has shown that many officers use maladaptive coping skills to deal with these stressors (Patterson, 2003). Although police stress has been widely researched, most studies do not look at police stress over the different stages of their careers and through the different officer ranks. Personality, perceived stress, and coping may change throughout a police officer s career (Jensen, 2009). Knowing at what point in the officer s career and at what rank the most stress is experienced will also aid in creating a preemptive plan. Literature Review What is the police personality, how does it form, and how is it assessed? First, the company and peter s career will be in risk if he reported the oil spill to the state. Third, the tests were only taken 400 feet from the surface of the groundwater, however maybe there is contamination deeper or other marine life were affected. Four, most important concept is the conflict of interest since Peter had to either obey the engineering law that requires confidentiality and neglect his morals or obey the state law and lose his friendship and career. Five, Jesse trusted Peter to keep this mysterious spill between them; he should be loyal to him since they have a trusting relationship. Additionally, Jesse noted that he cannot have a consulting engineer who doesn t value client loyalty. On the other hand, there are some unknown facts in the issue. According to state law all spills must be reported but what about spills that occurred years ago? Where the effects of spill seem to have dissipated? Essay about Naturalism in The House of Mirth Naturalism in The House of Mirth Challenging the strict deterministic confines of literary naturalism, which hold that the human being is merely one phenomenon in a universe of material phenomena (Gerard 418), Edith Wharton creates in The House of Mirth a novel which irrefutably presents the human creature as being subject to a naturalistic fate but which conveys a looming sense of hope that one may triumph over environment and circumstance if one possesses a certain strength of will or a simple faith in human possibility. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Making this theme uniquely hers, however, is Wharton s creation of two characters who are exceptions to the seemingly ubiquitous law of social determinism (Gerard 410). These characters, Nettie Struther and Lawrence Selden, one triumphing over her environment through sheer will, the other transcending it through faith in human possibility, create a small tear in the formidable fabric of strict naturalism, thus engendering a hope for the triumph of the human spirit. Edith Wharton develops Lady Bart as a character who is a product of her environment, preyed upon by circumstance and fate. Lily s name, referring to a highly ornamental flower, immediately creates the image of a delicate creature who is grown in the rich soils of society and who, if uprooted from this societal soil, would wither and perish. Lily, as any living organism, is not simply a static figure in her environment. Instead, she is a true naturalistic character, responsive and subject to the conditions of her surroundings. For example, when Lily and Selden meet at Bellomont, Lily s beauty expanded like a flower in sunlight (108) and, her face turned toward him with the soft motion of a flower (109). Thus, although it can be argued that Lily is not a naturalistic character because of Wharton s emphasis on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many psychologists have argued that such a concept is impossible to measure because it can not be directly observed. Though they are right about this, it is not impossible to measure how quickly mental rotations of images are processed in our brains. Subjects in this experiment were presented two shapes simultaneously, via computer screen, and asked to make judgement, as quickly as possible, as to whether the two shapes presented were the same or mirror images. Two different shapes were used in this experiment, each given as often as the other. During each trial one shape remained stationary and the other was rotated with varying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of the 66 students 30 took part in the mental rotation condition and 30 in the manual rotation condition. As expected, findings showed that there was in fact a strong relationship between the reaction times of the mental and manual rotations. As the angular disparity of both the mental and manual rotations increased so did reaction times. In almost all cases manual and mental reaction times matched each other. It was also observed by Wohlschlager amp; Wohlschlager (1998), that manual object rotation did not always follow the shortest path. Findings showed that in some trials students rotated images the longer way around. Thus, it was concluded that mental processes also rotate things the long way around, since reaction times did not differ much between the two groups, ultimately supporting their original hypothesis. Desrocher, Smith amp; Taylor (1995) conducted a similar experiment with intentions of measuring reaction times. Only in this experiment the independent variable was not mental vs. manual rotation, but gender. They were interested in seeing if gender differences played a role in regard to reaction times, when presented with either a letter stimuli or picture stimuli.
