Essay 1 Reflective Essay Final
Home
The surprizing thing that I recognized when I studied at college is the way people greet each other
around the world. After asking someone about name, we usually inquire about where he or she is
from. I believe that we ask, not just to indentify the location of where our acquaintances live, but
because we realize that their answers tell more about them. My answer for the question where are you
from? is always Vietnam, my home country. For every Vietnamese like me, home is an important and
meaningful part of our life. It becomes a vital part in our culture. The more I live far away from my
house, the more I know how it is important to me. Moreover, I acknowledge that not only our homes
define who we are but we also define our homes.
In the essay Peeling bananas , Wendy Lee uses reflection to support her argument that it is hard to live
in two different cultures. By using her own experiences and comparing the life in two cultures, she
shows us her difficulties of living in America. In the same way, my essay reflects on the various
perspectives of people from Vietnam and America about the meaning of home; and then I apply
compare and contrast method in my essay to point out how cultures affect our opinion about home.
I still remember a year ago, in the cold winter day when I first came to America; I and my sister
looked so tiny in thick, coarse sweaters. In the middle of

Risk Of A Diversified Portfolio
Introduction:
Market risk, or beta risk, is described as a reflection of a project on stockholders risk of a diversified
portfolio. Many factors can influence the market such as war, inflation, and recession. Market risk is
measured by the firm s beta coefficient to determine the effects the market has on the portfolio. In
addition to market risk, there are two forms of risk that managers use to calculate the risk of a
particular project related to holding a diversified portfolio. Stand alone risk is used when the firm s
only holds one asset or a single stock. Corporate, or within firm risk is the measurement of all assets
or stocks held by the firm. Of these three risks, the Capital Asset Pricing Model states the market risk
is the risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stand alone risk often correlated to the corporate risk which often correlates to the market; thus, if
stand alone risk is high, market risk will also be high. Market risk is the riskiness of a well diversified
project (assets or stocks) compared to the market using the markets beta, or slope of a linear
regression. The projects is plotted against the market (beta) risk to determine its risk compared to the
market. Much research has been done on the effects market risk has on stocks, firms, portfolios,
exchange rates, and more. Research often concludes with supporting evidence that support the use of
market risk for estimations and predictions in finance, since the market risk cannot be eliminated from
the stock market.
Market Risk Management:
Understanding market risk is crucial in determining the factors that threaten one s ability to attain
returns from a particular project, single stock, or a portfolio. The impact of market risks is crucial to
determining stability and the return on an investment. Many factors impact the market risk which
effect both global and country economies. Market risk allows a firm to estimate the risk and return on
projects or investments. Generally the riskier the project, the higher the returns. Market risk is
predictable over time; although the predictions are not perfect, one can gain understanding into the
effects the market will have on investment or how the investment will react to

Pathological Defence Of Criminal Justice
Before an individual may be convicted of a crime he or she needs to be held criminally liable for that
criminal act. However only those with criminal capacity may be held responsible and punished. This
essay shall begin by discussing the concept of criminal responsibility as well as how this concept is
applied in regard to pathological offenders, who do not have the required criminal capacity but have
committed the crime.
Black s Law Dictionary defines criminal responsibility as referring to an individual s mental capacity
to stand before the court and answer for their actions. Furthermore Black s Law Dictionary explores
the two different meanings of this concept. Firstly; he who is responsible under legal provisions is
liable to either suffer or to pay compensation. It can be said that criminal responsibility is about being

The pathological defence may only be used on the accounts that the mental disorder or defect is both

external factors such as drugs or alcohol).
A defect of reason was experienced by Mr Mcbride when he shot his wife; Mrs Mcbride. Evidence
from a medical practitioner proved that Mr Mcbride knew that the act of killing his wife was wrong.
Nonetheless, he was unable to act in accordance with this knowledge. Mr Mcbride was diagnosed with
an endogenous depression during the act of killing his wife. It is the endogenous depression that
caused his incapacity to act lawfully at the time of the crime. Section 78 (6) and section 78 (1) of the

The Mass Media
It is common to believe that when reporting scientific studies the mass media is accurate in reporting
what the research presents in a condensed format while still maintaining accurate information.
However the two articles that will be presented will show that although it does present information
found in the research there are certain aspects that are changed. As Keith Grant Davie stated before
each rhetorical situation is shaped by its four constituents and the two articles below will verify his
findings which lead into why there are differences between the academic discourse and the more
popular discourse. Therefore by examining a research paper on the discovery of new planets and its
accommodating article from CNN we found how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These differences are the result from the different rhetorical situations the two have since they have
different audiences, rhetors, constraints and exigence. Directly reinforcing Keith Grant Davey s idea
the audience of the two pieces are different and is one of the reasons why the differences are there.
The audience of the research paper are scientists who understand the terminology that is used while
for the CNN article it s the general audience, which explains the difference in length, tone and jargon
of each piece. For example, the exigence of the CNN article is to present the discovery found in the
research paper to the public in ways they would understand. So the article changed the terminology of
the piece, shortened its length so people would be more like to read it and focused on the aspect that
will most likely grab their attention which is about the possibility of the planets to host life. In order to
retain the audience s attention and appeal to them it s understandable why they focused on that aspect
much more than the methods the scientists used. Thus, to get the audience engaged in the discourse
the rhetor needed to inform the audience and appeal to them. For the research paper the focus
switched where most of the piece focuses on how they discovered the planets. Since the audience of
the piece would most likely be other scientists and professionals who are interested in the

Ethical Police Force
Sir Robert Peel was british, He is regarded as the father of the modern British police and as one of the
founders of the modern Conservative Party. The Peelian principles summarise the ideas that Sir Robert
Peel developed to define an ethical police force. There were nine principles: prevent crime disorder,
public approval, willing co operation, diminishing use of physical force, public favor, only necessary
force, police are the public, do not usurp authority, and absence of crime. In my opinion all these
principles are important but the two i m going to talk about are the seventh and eighth principle:
Police are the public, and do not usurp authority. Police at all times should maintain a relationship

Pancreas Case Study
1. Describe exocrine and endocrine functions of the pancreas.
The pancreas contains exocrine and endocrine functions that together allow for proper homeostasis
and digestion to occur in the human body. The pancreas contains exocrine glands that produce
enzymes that are crucial to aiding in digestion. The enzymes that help digest food include: trypsin and
chymotrypsin, along with amylase an enzyme located in the mandibular ramus that helps digest
carbohydrates, and lipase that is located posterior to the tongue, which aids in digesting lipids. When
the foods enter the stomach, pancreatic juices are released from the ducts. The pancreatic duct is
connected to the common bile duct which is at proximately to the location of the small intestine. There

What is the most common etiology for pancreatitis? Explain some of the consequences of this disease.
Pancreatitis occurs when the pancreatic enzymes become activated and are obstructed in the pancreas,
this causes secretion buildup and inflammation which in return cause pain. Pancreatitis is associated,
but not limited to alcoholism, gallstones, abdominal surgery, high calcium levels in the blood, high
triglycerides levels in the blood, and pancreatic cancer. (National Cancer Institute)
Some complications of pancreatitis may include infection. Pancreatitis can make the pancreas
vulnerable to bacteria. Kidney failure may be another component of pancreatitis and often can be
treated with dialysis. Breathing problems may also result from this condition. Pancreatitis can cause
chemical changes in how the lungs function, causing a change in the level of oxygen in the blood.
According to The National Cancer Institute, if pancreatitis is left untreated it can lead to
hyperglycaemia, back and abdominal pain, parotid gland enlargement, pancreatic pseudocyst, and
malabsorption syndrome.

Oratorio Music Vs Christian Music
Throughout the ages, music has been very important to religion. Ever since the middle ages, the
religious music told a story of a biblical event. The current day Christian music tells a story about life
and how Jesus Christ can fix the problem because he is all powerful. Oratorio is one example of older
religion music. The current type of religious music is called Contemporary Christian music. There are
a lot of different genres between these two. Oratorio and Contemporary music differ greatly; however,
they both speak about the perfect Jesus Christ.
Oratorio music was very sacred music in its time. Oratorio originated in the baroque ere. They were
also very large scale according to Wayne Bailey, the writer of In Performance (169). They were ...

Handel s oratorio, Messiah, is one of his most well known works. A part of this oratorio is called
Hallelujah Chorus and the music repeats itself a lot. If there is only one word in that section, that one
word is repeated a lot. If there is a phrase in that section, then that phrase will be repeated at least two
times. The overall story of this song is how Jesus will reign forever. The main line said in this song is
hallelujah. On the other hand, each contemporary music piece is very different. Meridith Andrew s
song, You re Not Alone, talks about how when people go through hard times, Jesus Christ is still there.
Only the chorus of this song repeats. Two of the main lines in this song is, You are not alone because I
am here and I am the one who has loved you all your life. Francesca Battistelli wrote the song Free to
be me. She relates to people throughout the whole song by talking about how she has dents in her
fender and rips in her jeans. She uses these to talk about how she is not perfect, but that God loves her
for who she is. One of the main lines in this song is perfection is my enemy. The band called Sidewalk
Prophets wrote the song You Love Me Anyways. This song talks about how we make mistakes, but
God still loves us through it all. They have many examples of things we do wrong in life, but the one
that stood out in the song was I am the nail in your wrist, but you love me anyways. Casting Crowns is
a well known contemporary Christian band. One of their songs is American Dream. This song talks
about how people are starting to put work and money above family and God. The theme of this song is
that trying to live the American dream and trying to be the best does not only push God away from
you and your family, it pushes your family away as well. The end of the song shows that the dad did

The Influence Of Soft Skills In The Military
Abstract
Soft skills influence mission success. We constantly work to maintain tactical and technical
proficiency, also known our hard skills. Hard skills are trainable and measurable. We must also
understand and develop those soft skill tools which are much harder to evaluate in training, but no less
important. The combination of these skill sets greatly enhance our ability to fight and win our nation s
wars. Cultural awareness, communication, and negotiation have always been needed during armed
conflict and will continue to do so. In a period of consistent conflict, with resources constraints, the
ability to utilize these skills is paramount.

Cultural awareness prepares us for the environment(s) we will enter and prepares us for interaction
with the populace. Our ability to communicate must be continuously honed, just as we maintain our
arms, our equipment, and ourselves. Leaders at the operational level must be able to negotiate and be
proficient, exercise cultural understanding, and able to deal with complexities that cross cultural
communication will present. These skills will remain in demand as we continue to fight in an era of

Romanticism And Romanticism
In Anna Karenina, Vintage Tolstoy said, He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if she
were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking. If he tags a girl likes the sun, which
means he is not seeing anything else, seeing nothing but only that girl in his eyes. Just a few short
words that have great train wreck coming and only those who are always delusions of love frantically,
can claw up such that verse. With a person who always adores love and follows the feeling like me,
the Romantic era got me in.
The major strides give people a better understanding of the human person the central figure of art, a
better understanding of the relationship between human nature, and also society. In this context
appeared more likely, many artistic movements, what s including Romanticism, are present in the field
of literature, painting, music... Romanticism comes from the romances of medieval times, which to
refer to knights, heroes, and distant lands, unfinished love ... It s the result of emotional expression,
subjective mood of the people, by reflecting the dreams and aspirations of ordinary people should rise
above reality.
The Wuthering Height by Emily Bronte is a diamond in the treasures of English literature. At the
beginning of the novel, it was a little sleepy and we would see some strange things in the house with
Heathcliff, who was a very understanding person. However, a little chapter later, we would become
increasingly drawn into the novel.

Carlingford Lough Case Study
Results Overview
We created a theoretical food web for Carlingford lough based on binary links, using species records
consisting of 154 species, 674 links, a linkage density of 4.48 and a connectance of 0.0248 (Figure 2).
The fundamental food web properties of Carlingford fell within 95% confidence intervals of webs of
similar species richness (S) (n=12, between 126 170 nodes Appendix 2), based on food webs listed in
the food web catalogue by Riede et al. (2009).

Why I Hate Christmas Essay
Why I hate Christmas
I despise Christmas and I always will! this was a common monologue I had with my lonely self
around this time of year. I continued on my daily evening saunter, in the bitter, cold air, gazing at the
children on the other side of the fence playing outdoors in the mounds of white snow. Joyously
appearing as if layering ten garments for the sake of stepping outside was to be fun. I would like to
believe that I do not envy the children with happy childhoods and amorous families, but I know
dejectedly, I still do. You could call me a Grinch during this time of year I guess. But overall, I find
the holiday of Christmas extremely irritating and obnoxious. I returned to my desolate room that I
have had to call my home for the last couple of years, but I presume I would have no choice.

I had had a very wonderful dream that night. I was a child once again, filled with bliss and
contentment. My entire family and I were all together having a splendid time at Central Park on
Christmas Eve. We were all together singing Carols, building snow men, and opening gifts together... I
don t remember the last time I saw my family. Sad, but I guess better for me at the same time. My
family members were not the best people, I guess you could say, but somewhere in my heart I know I
still love them. I look around my cage at plain concrete walls. Steel bars, doors, and a toilet. It s all a
man needs, right? How I have endured this same, drab room for all this time and not gone crazy I
would really like to know. I look over at my calendar hanging by the window. It s Christmas Eve once
again. People are elatedly rushing around malls picking out last minute Christmas gifts to put a smile
on children s faces. While I m here... isolated... staring out the small, spherical window in my cell,
struggling to remember how life was back when I was

The University of Redlands Wind Ensemble, directed by Eddie R. Smith, put on a show at the

what to expect. As I walked in I saw the amazing artwork around, the high ceilings, and a wide variety
of instruments scattered on different levels of the stage. On the first level there were many small hand
held instruments such as flutes and clarinets, on the second there were a wide variety of brass
instruments, and finally in the last row were the percussion instruments. Knowing that it was a wind

This song seemed to require the most work from the performers as it used a wide range of dynamics,
pitches, and tempo. The last song of the evening, and probably my favorite (not just because it was the
last), was Folk Dances . This song, just like the first, had a very festive feel to it. The upbeat tempo,
lead by the flutes and clarinets, made the song very enjoyable to hear and also had a very happy feel to
it, which, in my mind, made it a very appropriate closer. The song started with a great tempo but a
relatively soft dynamic. This quickly changed about half way through the song when the dynamics
picked up. The loud dynamics with the fast tempo at the end of the song had a very grandiose sound
and left the audience with a great taste in their mouths. Overall, this was a very good performance.
The audience applauded greatly at the end as parents stood proudly and embraced their sons and
daughters. I thought that it was well put together and was very interesting. I enjoyed the music more
than I thought I would and have the upmost of respect for the University of Redlands Wind

The Charge of the Light Brigade
The poem The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson is about a battle in which a
commander commits a faux pas and orders his men to move forward with an defensive strategy that
would result with their imminent death. As the poem goes on it tells us that we should honor these
men because although they knew their leader had made a life altering decision, they carried through
with it due to the fact that he was their leader. Tennyson uses personification, metaphor, imagery,
symbolism, and anaphora in order to take the reader back in time and to help the reader understand the
reason behind their tragic demise.
There are three main themes in this poem and they are respect and reputation, duty, and warfare. In the

Personification is used to when Tennyson says, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell. . He
uses this in order to create an image of the Russian army swallowing the brigade. He also uses the
metaphor Valley of Death to describe the battlefield, along with Jaws of Death and Mouth of Hell to
construe the Russian Army. Alfred uses imagery especially in stanzas 3 to 5 when he is explaining the
scene surrounding the men. He uses strong verbs in order to assert that the battle wasn t easy and it
reduced them in numbers. He also uses anaphora which means repeating the same beginning word line
after line, he does this to enunciate the danger surrounding the men as they entered the enemy lines.
To me this poem is tragically inspirational because the men didn t desert their leader even though they
knew he was at fault and that his mistake would result in heavy consequences. These soldiers were the
best of the best and they carried on fully knowing what was waiting for them in the valley of death .
They died with the honour of knowing they did all they could and that they died as more than soldiers,
they died as a family. Gary Neville once said, A collection of strong minded individuals who have
learned how to dismiss mistakes, disappointments, and problems make up a strong team. In my
opinion this explains my awe and reverence in these men because they never gave up

Essay On American Antisemitism
Racism is over. This is the defense of many white citizens of both Europe and America when they re
called racist, or something is called thus. This is unfortunately heavily untrue for many reasons, from
the cultural appropriation by celebrities of Native and Black cultures, to the standards of beauty fair
skin, aryan features. This is only dealing with part of the problem, however, and an issue that is often
overlooked is the rampant Antisemitism in major European countries, and even in America. From
vandalism, to Russian military intervention, to the current situation in Ukraine, Europe is far from
ridding itself of conflict based on racial bias and greed. Most white Americans and Europeans of today
like to pretend that since WWII, we ve gotten past our prejudiced, anti semitic ways. Sadly, in most of
the world, this isn t the case. There are still attacks and vandalism, and fairly often depending on

Peaceful Civil Disobedience
Civil disobedience is a timeless practice that has been carried on from generation to generation, from
Socrates refusal to execute Leon of Salamis to today s Syrian rebels fight for freedom. In many cases
of injustice, the public will rise up to reclaim their human rights, and ever so often these fights are
nonviolent in nature and educational to all the people who engage in it. However, even in acts of
nonviolent demonstrations, both the demonstrator and the demonstrated can be hurt. So the question
arises: does peaceful disobedience positively impact a free society? Or does such disobedience only
contribute to the tension already apparent? The answer to this question, simply put, is that civil
disobedience can positively impact a free society in more ways than one. Peaceful civil disobedience
is one of the most important aspects that exemplifies a truly free society, for the ability of a group to
protest against injustice is true human freedom. Peaceful demonstrations can also encourage better and
stronger livelihood among people who are oppressed, since these actions can and will open the eyes of

compassion, humanity, and the relationship between adults and children. These three elements define
the main character, Ender, and influence the way he makes decisions and eventually changes the

Due to Mazer Rackham s genius, the Formic Fleet was defeated. In preparation for the Formic s third
invasion, the International Fleet constructed Battle School and Command school to train the smartest
children in the world with the best tactical minds with rigorous training. Due to the urgency that was
taken to defeat the Formics, once and for all, the International Fleet, a new governing body that was
like United Nations on steroids, orders that children would be raised to be the smartest the world had
ever seen. Ender was one of those children. He was chosen at the age of 6 to go to Battle School, an
orbiting school that taught the children how to be good military tacticians in the heat of battle. This
was accomplished in the battle room, a large cube room with no gravity. Cadets are given a gun that,
when shot at another cadet wearing a flash suit, causes the particular body part that was shot to freeze
and become immobile. If a cadet was hit in the stomach, their entire body would become immobile.
When Ender first arrived to Battle School, he was in a group known as the launchies, because they had

Paul Olsen Case Essay
The Paul Olsen case describes the situation for a decision that Paul Olsen needs to make. Paul and
Robert Rose devised a plan to open a piano bar in a new urban mall development in Pittsburg, PA. If
successful, Paul and Robert would add a restaurant and café at the same location to grow their
business. With three and a half months before opening, Paul did not have enough investors to fund the
startup costs, so he needs to decide whether to invest all of his student loan money ($12,500) to
maintain the timetable for the opening.

to manage that risk. By controlling risk, Paul is able to minimize his exposure to potential losses if the

Although the restaurant industry is perceived to have high risk of failure, the risk of a restaurant
failing is not too different from other small businesses. Parsa et al. quantified the risk of failure at 26%
in the first year and 57% by year 3. He also described several factors that can influence the risk of
failure. Those include physical location, firm size, speed of growth, differentiation from other
restaurants in the market, adapting to external trends, and management experience. In terms of
location and differentiation, Paul s bar will be located in a new development designed to attract
affluent customers and with very few competitors. Paul s small firm size increases risk because of
barriers to attract partners (i.e. suppliers and bankers are prejudiced against smaller firms) and growth
that may be too rapid to manage. On the other hand, Robert already has experience in the restaurant
business and should know how to run the bar and subsequent restaurant. Their choice of a piano bar
may be in response to local trends that favor success.
A final question is whether Paul should apply his student loan money to the startup costs. Since his
living expenses and tuition are already paid by the Ford Foundation grant, the loan money is not
immediately needed. The contract in exhibit 3 shows that his services towards opening the bar are
valued at $17,500 in addition to the cash contribution. Therefore, his percentage claim towards any

Darko Suvin s Metamorphoses of Science Fiction Essay
The Literary Genre of Science Fiction
In Darko Suvin s Metamorphoses of Science Fiction, Suvin argues that science fiction should be
considered its own literary genre. The reason he believes science fiction is distinct from other literary
genres is because of its transforming aspects. Suvin describes science fiction as the literature of
cognitive estrangement, which includes a novum . It is his belief that both cognition and estrangement
must be both present and interactive in science fiction. Although it can be argued that science fiction is
not its own literary genre because of its similarities to myth, fantasy, and folktale, it is significantly
different from these genres because of its ability to cause the reader to think in ... Show more content

This causes his/her view of reality to be transformed.
In Metamorphoses of Science Fiction, Darko Suvin defends his cited definition of Science Fiction as
its own literary genre, by providing examples and pointing out the similarities and differences arising
from the comparison of science fiction to myth, folktale, and fantasy. Suvin says that myths are similar
to science fiction in the aspect that they both incorporate the usage of estrangement. However, he
points out that there are also many differences between them as well. Science fiction sees the norms of
reality as transformable and changeable, whereas myths are the complete opposites. They conceive
human relations as fixed and supernaturally determined (8). This mean that the lives of characters are
already made for them and that they do not have the ability to change what will happen to them.
Folktale is also similar to science fiction where it defies the rules and laws of the empirical
environment. However, folktales go above and beyond transforming the empirical environment, it
creates a closed collateral world indifferent to cognitive possibilities (8). This means that in the world
created in a folktale, anything is possible. He uses the example of a flying carpet, stating, The flying
carpet evades the empirical law of physical gravity (8). This quote shows the difference between
folktale and science fiction because a folktale creates something that is

Similarities Between Living Up The Street And The House On...
DIscrimination Toward Gary and Esperanza Many Chicana men and women were unprivileged, being
forced to live life facing challenges with no escape because of their race. They searched for a never
ending way out. In the books, Living Up The Street, By Gary Soto, and The House On Mango Street,
By Sandra Cisneros, both authors relate to their life as a Latina/Latino incorporating their emotions
and some past experiences from their childhood. Both books follow the characters throughout their
lives, but more so in Living up the Street, By Gary Soto. This shows through the development of the
characters throughout the chapters/vignettes. Cisneros, the author of The House On Mango Street, and
Soto, the author of Living up the street both show discrimination. They show discrimination through
their poor neighborhoods, the name calling between the characters, and the jobs they were entitled to
make, which led them to making a lower profit than the whites throughout their lives. In The House
On Mango Street, By Sandra Cisneros, The author talks about her outdated and poor community in a
Latino section of Chicago through Esperanza s character. She is forced to constantly move from
broken down apartments, to tiny rundown homes. Esperanza recently moved into a poor and outdated,
mostly Latino neighborhood in the city of Chicago, which is very similar to the author s hometown. In
vignette number one Esperanza says, The house on Mango Street is ours, and we don t have to pay

Freedom Of Speech In John Stuart Mill s On Liberty
In On Liberty (1859), John Stuart Mill was a strong believer of freedom of speech. He identifies the
Harm principle to protect the freedom of thought and expression. He argues that people should not be
silenced for expressing their opinion or how they feel based on their beliefs. He declares four vaguely
arguments and makes several examples as to why freedom of speech is a very important aspect to
society. In this paper, I argue that Mill is correct in declaring that we have the right to express our
opinions as long as it does not bring harm to others. First, I will define how Mill uses the harm
principle to declare his argument and the four distinct reasons for freedom of opinion and the
expression of opinion. Secondly, I will declare my viewpoint based on why I agree with the harm
principle as well as Mill s argument following that we have a right to freedom of expression.
Mill uses the Harm Principle to identify his argument for freedom of speech. The Harm Principle
explains that the government are only justified in interfering with individuals who express their views
if only their views cause harm to others. If a person s actions only affect himself, then society, which
includes the government should not be able to stop a person from doing what he wants. Three ideas
helped shape the harm principle. The first idea, Mill states that the harm principle is composed of the
liberty of expressing and publishing opinions as being important as the liberty of thought, which

Cultural Differences In Hawaii
In Hawaii, the state oversees all schools, and separates them by complex area. Data is usually
specified by specific school, complex, island, or the overall state. On the island of Hawaii, complex
areas differ, but between 52 percent and 88 percent of students are economically disadvantaged (State
of Hawaii Department of Education, 2014). For example, in the Pahoa complex that I currently work
in, 88 percent of students are economically disadvantaged (State of Hawaii Department of Education,
2014). Additionally, differing by complex, between 6 percent and 23 percent of the students are
English language learner (ELL) students (State of Hawaii Department of Education, 2014). Also,
according to the U.S. Department of Education (n.d.), in the 2012 2013 school year, there were
184,760 students in the state of Hawaii and of that 0.5 percent were American Indian and Alaskan
Native, 33 percent were Asian, 2.2 percent were Black, 8.3 percent were Hispanic, and 13.9 percent
were White. However, this data did not specify the Hawaiian or Pacific Island percentage of students
or those choosing more than one race. Based on U.S. census data, which closely matches student
ethnicity data, the Hawaiian and Pacific Islander alone population was 10 percent and the more than
one race was 23.1 percent in 2013 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2015). ... Show more content on

Eating Animal Eating Animals
Today, most American people will enjoy a meal that will be complete with an animal protein; most
commonly, chicken. The American people will consume an average of around 9 billion chickens
yearly. ( Poultry Facts ) Of those chickens, nearly 70% are raised in filthy, industrial style warehouses,
having never even seen the sun. ( Broiler Chicken Industry Key Facts 2016 ) These warehouses, or
broiler sheds, pack the chickens tightly together, so much so that they must walk on top of one another
to move around. The chickens are overfed extensively and treated with high amounts of antibiotics
and growth hormones. After only being alive for less than 50 days, the chickens are snatched up and
packed into the back of trucks. Soon the chickens arrive for slaughter and are quickly hung upside
down, stunned, and cut in to pieces. ( The Life of: Broiler Chickens ) I understand that eating animals
is natural for people, excluding vegans and vegetarians; I also eat animals, but I do not understand
why the animals we eat must suffer. Also, due to the unsanitary conditions of the sheds, those who
tirelessly work to keep the flocks alive are likely to suffer from chronic bronchitis, are subjected to
dangerous amounts of E. coli bacteria, and are at a higher risk of contracting a strain of avian viruses,
all just to earn minuscule wages with almost no insurance. (Monbiot George) Additionally, due to the

The Role Of Dysphasia In Parkinson s Disease
What is dysphasia? Dysphasia is defined as the difficulty of food moving from the mouth to the
stomach (Logemann, 1983); however, this definition can be expanded. According to Logemann
(1983), this definition has been expanded to include all of the motor, behavioral, and sensory acts that
are needed to prepare the body for the process of the swallow as well as cognitive abilities, and
physiological responses to the smell of the food or liquid. A disorder can occur to any of these
functions, so typically the process is broken down by the phases of the swallow. Such as, oral
dysphasia, pharyngeal dysphasia, and esophageal dysphasia (Logemann, 1983). The list of signs and
symptoms are endless due to the fact that the process has so many steps, ... Show more content on

In recent years statistics have shown that this occurs anywhere from one third for four fifths of
patients who have been diagnosed with Parkinson s disease. According to Rajaei et al. (2014), the
statistics are higher, saying that oropharyngeal dysphasia occurs in up to 80% of Parkinson s patients
but increases up to 95 100% of patients in the latter more progressed stages of the disease. This occurs
because of the motor loss in the patient s body from the lack of dopamine being produced in the brain
(Ellerston et al., 2016). According to (Argolo et al., 2013), rigidity and brandykinesia formed in the
oralpharyngeal muscles, lack of coordination between breathing and swallowing, and the loss or
reduction of sensation in the oral cavity and pharynx are all involved in the patients dysphasia.
Ellerston et al. (2016) reviewed studies done on Parkinson s patients diagnosed with dysphasia using
videofluoroscopic modified barium swallow (MBS) study. According to Ellerston et al. (2016), these
studies revealed that the patients had impaired laryngeal movement, palatal elevation deficits, lack of
epiglottic movement, anterior hyoid bone movement, and vocal fold adduction deficits. The modified
barium swallowing studies also revealed that the patients with Parkinson s also showed prolonged
pharyngeal transit times (Ellerston et al., 2016). Because of these deficits in the musculature Ellerston
et al.(2016), reported that it would lead to vallecular pooling and residue, possible laryngeal
penetration, and possible aspiration which could lead to respiratory illnesses or aspiration pneumonia.
Ellerston et al. (2016), also revealed from reviewing past literature that when comparing the patients
results of the bedside screening to the results of the MBS, almost 80% of the swallowing disorders
went unnoticed, including patients who were aspirating. Ellerston et

Hinduism Essay
Hinduism
Hinduism cannot be described as an organized religion. One individual did not found Hinduism.
Hinduism is God centered and therefore one can call Hinduism as founded by God. Hinduism is based
upon Eternal Principles. If a great scientist like Einstein discovered or realized laws of physics,
Hinduism would call him a great Rishi (Maharshi or seer of truth.) Such seers of truth are not confined
to any one age or country. Self realized persons like Jesus Christ would be called Rishis (seers) and
their teachings would be readily acceptable to those who properly understand the principles of
Hinduism . From the ancient times, many great Rishis achieved self realization through such means as

The Om is to Hindus As the cross is to Christians. It is made up of three Sanskrit letters, aa, au and ma
which, when combined, make the sound Aum or Om. The most important symbol in Hinduism, it
occurs in every prayer and invocation to most deities begins with it. As the symbol of piety, Om is
often found at the head of letters, pendants, enshrined in every Hindu temple and family shrines. This
symbol is actually a sacred syllable representing the Brahman or the Absolute the source of all
existence. Brahman, in itself, is incomprehensible so a symbol becomes mandatory to help us realize
the Unknowable. The syllable Om occurs even in English words having a similar meaning, for
instance, omniscience , omnipotent , omnipresent . Thus Om is also used to signify divinity and
authority. Its similarity with the Latin M as also to the Greek letter Omega is discernable. Even the
word Amen used by Christians to conclude a prayer seems to be akin to Om.
Second in importance only to the Om, the Swastika, a symbol that looks like the Nazi emblem, holds a
great religious significance for the Hindus. Swastika is not a syllable or a letter, but a pictorial

Essay on Biology Case Study
Advanced Cell Biology II Step 1: How will you identify the vital cellular protein that the virus targets
for degradation? (Hint: think proteomics). (3 pts.) First, since we know the viral RNA sequence and its
targeting protein, we can investigate it in bioinformatics database, and can acquire some clues or hints
about the target proteins. From the bioinformatics database, we might be able to find its structure,
similarity with other proteins, functions, and binding domains. In other words, we can get some partial
or complete amino sequences of the targeting proteins or information about likeness. Second, in order
to further confirm the information about characteristics and function of the targeting protein that we

Since we have already known the amino sequence of the protein in previous step, we can narrow
down the targeting ubiquitin ligase based on existing research data such as papers, NCBI data. There
are many types of ubiquitin ligases in cells. However, we can make some candidate groups of
targeting E3 based on the bioinformatics database. We will use antibodies which specifically bind to
each type of ubiquitin ligase and impede its function. For example, the antibodies may covalently bind
to the targeting ubiquitin ligase, and therefore, impede its function. Then, we will measure the amount
of targeting protein. If we find that the amount of targeting protein is not changed in a cell, we can
identify the target ubiquitin ligase. This is because only when the function of the target ubiquitin ligase
is impeded, the degradation of the targeting protein will not be occurred. Step 3: What protein will be
your drug target? What property of that protein will you target? Design an assay/approach to identify
an antidote for degron . (4 pts.) Since degron targets a vital cellular protein for ubiquitin dependent
degradation, if we block its process of degradation, we can effectively turn off its effect. As mentioned
earlier, ubiquitin ligase brings specificity. Since we have already known which ubiquitin ligase is

Negative Effects Of Credit Cards
For the past several decades, physical money has been the most common way for people to pay for
goods and services. However, in the past several years, bills and coins have been replaced by plastic as
more people use credit cards to buy the things they want. Credit cards are convenient, as they allow to
card holder to buy whatever they want without having to carry around a certain amount of money that
needs to be predetermined. To add on to this convenience, credit cards have large spending limits,
which allow the card holder to make multiple large purchases, which only need paid back when the
credit card bill comes later. However, despite how attractive credit cards may seem, they are overused
by and cause huge problems for millions of Americans. Although credit cards are seen as convenient
by many people, they are actually risky tools that can wreak financial havoc.
One of the major problems with credit cards is that consumers naturally spend more when they have a
card in hand. When studied, psychologists have found that card holders spend more money when they
use a credit card than when they use physical money. Similarly, these studies have also found that card
holders will often pay more than what is required on costs, such as restaurant tips, when they are using
a card. Card holders spend in this larger way because of the perceived differences between money and
credit cards. For instance, when a person spends a large amount of money, it triggers a reaction in the

teacher has told him that words are formed by the people making them, therefore he must try it out for
himself and gets six of his friends to commit to using the word frindle instead of pen.
Nick and his friends made a big show about using the new word every time they needed to say pen,
however Mrs. Granger, the fifth grade, language arts teacher was not in favor of the use of the word
and asked them not to use it. That was not going to stop the group. So, the punishment for using the

  • 2. Analysis Of Wendy Lee s Peeling Bananas Son Tra Do English 1A: Tuesday/Thursday 2pm 4pm Professor Haviland Essay 1 Reflective Essay Final Home The surprizing thing that I recognized when I studied at college is the way people greet each other around the world. After asking someone about name, we usually inquire about where he or she is from. I believe that we ask, not just to indentify the location of where our acquaintances live, but because we realize that their answers tell more about them. My answer for the question where are you from? is always Vietnam, my home country. For every Vietnamese like me, home is an important and meaningful part of our life. It becomes a vital part in our culture. The more I live far away from my house, the more I know how it is important to me. Moreover, I acknowledge that not only our homes define who we are but we also define our homes. In the essay Peeling bananas , Wendy Lee uses reflection to support her argument that it is hard to live in two different cultures. By using her own experiences and comparing the life in two cultures, she shows us her difficulties of living in America. In the same way, my essay reflects on the various perspectives of people from Vietnam and America about the meaning of home; and then I apply compare and contrast method in my essay to point out how cultures affect our opinion about home. I still remember a year ago, in the cold winter day when I first came to America; I and my sister looked so tiny in thick, coarse sweaters. In the middle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Risk Of A Diversified Portfolio Introduction: Market risk, or beta risk, is described as a reflection of a project on stockholders risk of a diversified portfolio. Many factors can influence the market such as war, inflation, and recession. Market risk is measured by the firm s beta coefficient to determine the effects the market has on the portfolio. In addition to market risk, there are two forms of risk that managers use to calculate the risk of a particular project related to holding a diversified portfolio. Stand alone risk is used when the firm s only holds one asset or a single stock. Corporate, or within firm risk is the measurement of all assets or stocks held by the firm. Of these three risks, the Capital Asset Pricing Model states the market risk is the risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stand alone risk often correlated to the corporate risk which often correlates to the market; thus, if stand alone risk is high, market risk will also be high. Market risk is the riskiness of a well diversified project (assets or stocks) compared to the market using the markets beta, or slope of a linear regression. The projects is plotted against the market (beta) risk to determine its risk compared to the market. Much research has been done on the effects market risk has on stocks, firms, portfolios, exchange rates, and more. Research often concludes with supporting evidence that support the use of market risk for estimations and predictions in finance, since the market risk cannot be eliminated from the stock market. Market Risk Management: Understanding market risk is crucial in determining the factors that threaten one s ability to attain returns from a particular project, single stock, or a portfolio. The impact of market risks is crucial to determining stability and the return on an investment. Many factors impact the market risk which effect both global and country economies. Market risk allows a firm to estimate the risk and return on projects or investments. Generally the riskier the project, the higher the returns. Market risk is predictable over time; although the predictions are not perfect, one can gain understanding into the effects the market will have on investment or how the investment will react to ... • 4. Pathological Defence Of Criminal Justice Before an individual may be convicted of a crime he or she needs to be held criminally liable for that criminal act. However only those with criminal capacity may be held responsible and punished. This essay shall begin by discussing the concept of criminal responsibility as well as how this concept is applied in regard to pathological offenders, who do not have the required criminal capacity but have committed the crime. Black s Law Dictionary defines criminal responsibility as referring to an individual s mental capacity to stand before the court and answer for their actions. Furthermore Black s Law Dictionary explores the two different meanings of this concept. Firstly; he who is responsible under legal provisions is liable to either suffer or to pay compensation. Thus, excluding an insanity defence; on the grounds of significant emotional or volitional deficiencies. The pathological defence may only be used on the accounts that the mental disorder or defect is both 1) pathological (a disease of the mind) and 2) endogenous (a disease resulting of internal cause not external factors such as drugs or alcohol). A defect of reason was experienced by Mr Mcbride when he shot his wife; Mrs Mcbride. Evidence from a medical practitioner proved that Mr Mcbride knew that the act of killing his wife was wrong. Nonetheless, he was unable to act in accordance with this knowledge. Mr Mcbride was diagnosed with an endogenous depression during the act of killing his wife. It is the endogenous depression that caused his incapacity to act lawfully at the time of the crime. • 5. The Mass Media It is common to believe that when reporting scientific studies the mass media is accurate in reporting what the research presents in a condensed format while still maintaining accurate information. However the two articles that will be presented will show that although it does present information found in the research there are certain aspects that are changed. As Keith Grant Davie stated before each rhetorical situation is shaped by its four constituents and the two articles below will verify his findings which lead into why there are differences between the academic discourse and the more popular discourse. Therefore by examining a research paper on the discovery of new planets and its accommodating article from CNN we found how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These differences are the result from the different rhetorical situations the two have since they have different audiences, rhetors, constraints and exigence. Directly reinforcing Keith Grant Davey s idea the audience of the two pieces are different and is one of the reasons why the differences are there. The audience of the research paper are scientists who understand the terminology that is used while for the CNN article it s the general audience, which explains the difference in length, tone and jargon of each piece. For example, the exigence of the CNN article is to present the discovery found in the research paper to the public in ways they would understand. So the article changed the terminology of the piece, shortened its length so people would be more like to read it and focused on the aspect that will most likely grab their attention which is about the possibility of the planets to host life. In order to retain the audience s attention and appeal to them it s understandable why they focused on that aspect much more than the methods the scientists used. Thus, to get the audience engaged in the discourse the rhetor needed to inform the audience and appeal to them. For the research paper the focus switched where most of the piece focuses on how they discovered the planets. Since the audience of the piece would most likely be other scientists and professionals who are interested in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The current day Christian music tells a story about life and how Jesus Christ can fix the problem because he is all powerful. Oratorio is one example of older religion music. The current type of religious music is called Contemporary Christian music. There are a lot of different genres between these two. Oratorio and Contemporary music differ greatly; however, they both speak about the perfect Jesus Christ. Oratorio music was very sacred music in its time. Oratorio originated in the baroque ere. Handel s oratorio, Messiah, is one of his most well known works. A part of this oratorio is called Hallelujah Chorus and the music repeats itself a lot. If there is only one word in that section, that one word is repeated a lot. If there is a phrase in that section, then that phrase will be repeated at least two times. The overall story of this song is how Jesus will reign forever. The main line said in this song is hallelujah. On the other hand, each contemporary music piece is very different. Meridith Andrew s song, You re Not Alone, talks about how when people go through hard times, Jesus Christ is still there. Only the chorus of this song repeats. Two of the main lines in this song is, You are not alone because I am here and I am the one who has loved you all your life. Francesca Battistelli wrote the song Free to be me. She relates to people throughout the whole song by talking about how she has dents in her fender and rips in her jeans. She uses these to talk about how she is not perfect, but that God loves her for who she is. One of the main lines in this song is perfection is my enemy. The band called Sidewalk Prophets wrote the song You Love Me Anyways. This song talks about how we make mistakes, but God still loves us through it all. They have many examples of things we do wrong in life, but the one that stood out in the song was I am the nail in your wrist, but you love me anyways. Casting Crowns is a well known contemporary Christian band. One of their songs is American Dream. This song talks about how people are starting to put work and money above family and God. The theme of this song is that trying to live the American dream and trying to be the best does not only push God away from you and your family, it pushes your family away as well. Hard skills are trainable and measurable. We must also understand and develop those soft skill tools which are much harder to evaluate in training, but no less important. The combination of these skill sets greatly enhance our ability to fight and win our nation s wars. Cultural awareness, communication, and negotiation have always been needed during armed conflict and will continue to do so. • 10. Romanticism And Romanticism In Anna Karenina, Vintage Tolstoy said, He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking. If he tags a girl likes the sun, which means he is not seeing anything else, seeing nothing but only that girl in his eyes. I continued on my daily evening saunter, in the bitter, cold air, gazing at the children on the other side of the fence playing outdoors in the mounds of white snow. Joyously appearing as if layering ten garments for the sake of stepping outside was to be fun. I would like to believe that I do not envy the children with happy childhoods and amorous families, but I know dejectedly, I still do. You could call me a Grinch during this time of year I guess. Walking into the monumental Chapel I was unsure of what to expect. As I walked in I saw the amazing artwork around, the high ceilings, and a wide variety of instruments scattered on different levels of the stage. On the first level there were many small hand held instruments such as flutes and clarinets, on the second there were a wide variety of brass instruments, and finally in the last row were the percussion instruments. The upbeat tempo, lead by the flutes and clarinets, made the song very enjoyable to hear and also had a very happy feel to it, which, in my mind, made it a very appropriate closer. The song started with a great tempo but a relatively soft dynamic. This quickly changed about half way through the song when the dynamics picked up. The loud dynamics with the fast tempo at the end of the song had a very grandiose sound and left the audience with a great taste in their mouths. Overall, this was a very good performance. The Charge of the Light Brigade The poem The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson is about a battle in which a commander commits a faux pas and orders his men to move forward with an defensive strategy that would result with their imminent death. As the poem goes on it tells us that we should honor these men because although they knew their leader had made a life altering decision, they carried through with it due to the fact that he was their leader. Tennyson uses personification, metaphor, imagery, symbolism, and anaphora in order to take the reader back in time and to help the reader understand the reason behind their tragic demise. Personification is used to when Tennyson says, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell. . He uses this in order to create an image of the Russian army swallowing the brigade. He also uses the metaphor Valley of Death to describe the battlefield, along with Jaws of Death and Mouth of Hell to construe the Russian Army. Alfred uses imagery especially in stanzas 3 to 5 when he is explaining the scene surrounding the men. He uses strong verbs in order to assert that the battle wasn t easy and it reduced them in numbers. He also uses anaphora which means repeating the same beginning word line after line, he does this to enunciate the danger surrounding the men as they entered the enemy lines. To me this poem is tragically inspirational because the men didn t desert their leader even though they knew he was at fault and that his mistake would result in heavy consequences. These soldiers were the best of the best and they carried on fully knowing what was waiting for them in the valley of death . They died with the honour of knowing they did all they could and that they died as more than soldiers, they died as a family. Peaceful Civil Disobedience Civil disobedience is a timeless practice that has been carried on from generation to generation, from Socrates refusal to execute Leon of Salamis to today s Syrian rebels fight for freedom. In many cases of injustice, the public will rise up to reclaim their human rights, and ever so often these fights are nonviolent in nature and educational to all the people who engage in it. However, even in acts of nonviolent demonstrations, both the demonstrator and the demonstrated can be hurt. So the question arises: does peaceful disobedience positively impact a free society? Or does such disobedience only contribute to the tension already apparent? The answer to this question, simply put, is that civil disobedience can positively impact a free society in more ways than one. Peaceful civil disobedience is one of the most important aspects that exemplifies a truly free society, for the ability of a group to protest against injustice is true human freedom. Parsa et al. quantified the risk of failure at 26% in the first year and 57% by year 3. He also described several factors that can influence the risk of failure. Those include physical location, firm size, speed of growth, differentiation from other restaurants in the market, adapting to external trends, and management experience. In terms of location and differentiation, Paul s bar will be located in a new development designed to attract affluent customers and with very few competitors. Paul s small firm size increases risk because of barriers to attract partners (i.e. suppliers and bankers are prejudiced against smaller firms) and growth that may be too rapid to manage. On the other hand, Robert already has experience in the restaurant business and should know how to run the bar and subsequent restaurant. Their choice of a piano bar may be in response to local trends that favor success. A final question is whether Paul should apply his student loan money to the startup costs. Since his living expenses and tuition are already paid by the Ford Foundation grant, the loan money is not immediately needed. In Metamorphoses of Science Fiction, Darko Suvin defends his cited definition of Science Fiction as its own literary genre, by providing examples and pointing out the similarities and differences arising from the comparison of science fiction to myth, folktale, and fantasy. Suvin says that myths are similar to science fiction in the aspect that they both incorporate the usage of estrangement. However, he points out that there are also many differences between them as well. Science fiction sees the norms of reality as transformable and changeable, whereas myths are the complete opposites. They conceive human relations as fixed and supernaturally determined (8). This mean that the lives of characters are already made for them and that they do not have the ability to change what will happen to them. Folktale is also similar to science fiction where it defies the rules and laws of the empirical environment. However, folktales go above and beyond transforming the empirical environment, it creates a closed collateral world indifferent to cognitive possibilities (8). This means that in the world created in a folktale, anything is possible. He uses the example of a flying carpet, stating, The flying carpet evades the empirical law of physical gravity (8). • 22. Freedom Of Speech In John Stuart Mill s On Liberty In On Liberty (1859), John Stuart Mill was a strong believer of freedom of speech. He identifies the Harm principle to protect the freedom of thought and expression. He argues that people should not be silenced for expressing their opinion or how they feel based on their beliefs. He declares four vaguely arguments and makes several examples as to why freedom of speech is a very important aspect to society. In this paper, I argue that Mill is correct in declaring that we have the right to express our opinions as long as it does not bring harm to others. First, I will define how Mill uses the harm principle to declare his argument and the four distinct reasons for freedom of opinion and the expression of opinion. Secondly, I will declare my viewpoint based on why I agree with the harm principle as well as Mill s argument following that we have a right to freedom of expression. Mill uses the Harm Principle to identify his argument for freedom of speech. The Harm Principle explains that the government are only justified in interfering with individuals who express their views if only their views cause harm to others. If a person s actions only affect himself, then society, which includes the government should not be able to stop a person from doing what he wants. Three ideas helped shape the harm principle. This occurs because of the motor loss in the patient s body from the lack of dopamine being produced in the brain (Ellerston et al., 2016). According to (Argolo et al., 2013), rigidity and brandykinesia formed in the oralpharyngeal muscles, lack of coordination between breathing and swallowing, and the loss or reduction of sensation in the oral cavity and pharynx are all involved in the patients dysphasia. Ellerston et al. (2016) reviewed studies done on Parkinson s patients diagnosed with dysphasia using videofluoroscopic modified barium swallow (MBS) study. According to Ellerston et al. • 30. Essay on Biology Case Study Advanced Cell Biology II Step 1: How will you identify the vital cellular protein that the virus targets for degradation? (Hint: think proteomics). (3 pts.) First, since we know the viral RNA sequence and its targeting protein, we can investigate it in bioinformatics database, and can acquire some clues or hints about the target proteins. From the bioinformatics database, we might be able to find its structure, similarity with other proteins, functions, and binding domains. In other words, we can get some partial or complete amino sequences of the targeting proteins or information about likeness. Second, in order to further confirm the information about characteristics and function of the targeting protein that we have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since we have already known the amino sequence of the protein in previous step, we can narrow down the targeting ubiquitin ligase based on existing research data such as papers, NCBI data. There are many types of ubiquitin ligases in cells. However, we can make some candidate groups of targeting E3 based on the bioinformatics database. We will use antibodies which specifically bind to each type of ubiquitin ligase and impede its function. For example, the antibodies may covalently bind to the targeting ubiquitin ligase, and therefore, impede its function. Then, we will measure the amount of targeting protein. If we find that the amount of targeting protein is not changed in a cell, we can identify the target ubiquitin ligase. This is because only when the function of the target ubiquitin ligase is impeded, the degradation of the targeting protein will not be occurred. Step 3: What protein will be your drug target? What property of that protein will you target? Design an assay/approach to identify an antidote for degron . (4 pts.) Since degron targets a vital cellular protein for ubiquitin dependent degradation, if we block its process of degradation, we can effectively turn off its effect. As mentioned earlier, ubiquitin ligase brings specificity. Since we have already known which ubiquitin ligase is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Negative Effects Of Credit Cards For the past several decades, physical money has been the most common way for people to pay for goods and services. However, in the past several years, bills and coins have been replaced by plastic as more people use credit cards to buy the things they want. Credit cards are convenient, as they allow to card holder to buy whatever they want without having to carry around a certain amount of money that needs to be predetermined. To add on to this convenience, credit cards have large spending limits, which allow the card holder to make multiple large purchases, which only need paid back when the credit card bill comes later. However, despite how attractive credit cards may seem, they are overused by and cause huge problems for millions of Americans. Although credit cards are seen as convenient by many people, they are actually risky tools that can wreak financial havoc. One of the major problems with credit cards is that consumers naturally spend more when they have a card in hand. When studied, psychologists have found that card holders spend more money when they use a credit card than when they use physical money. Similarly, these studies have also found that card holders will often pay more than what is required on costs, such as restaurant tips, when they are using a card. Card holders spend in this larger way because of the perceived differences between money and credit cards. For instance, when a person spends a large amount of money, it triggers a reaction in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
