Types And Categories Of Requirements
2)Describe the Types and Categories of Requirements. Discuss the Requirements Artifacts that are
offered in the Unified Process. Requirements are categorized as functional and non functional.
Functional (behavioral) requirements identifies/recognize the actions that are required to complete
the user goals. For example, for a receptionist to create an appointment for the patient, he/she must
take numbers of steps, such as logging into the system by providing appropriate ID/password, find
patient in the system, select date/time/doctor for appointment, saves the appointment etc. One of
the best ways of documenting functional requirements are use case. Functional requirements are
what the user expects from the system/software. For example if the system is to schedule an
appointment for patient, then that system should be able to create a new appointment, edit/modify
the existing appointment, cancel/delete an existing appointment, etc. Basically, functional
requirements defines what a system is meant to do and on the other hand, non functional
requirements defines how a system is supposed to be. Non functional requirements are not related
to the functionality of the product/system. It defines the qualities around the system (FURPS+
model) and not the specific behavior of a given system. In the Unified Process, requirements are
categorized as FURPS+ model which means functional, usability, reliability, performance and
supportability. + in FURPS+ are sub factors such as

Universal Life Insurance Vs. Variable Universal Life...
A life insurance policy is a contract with an insurance company. It has premium payments, the
insurance company provides a cash payment, known as a death benefit, to beneficiaries upon the
insured s death. After conducting the research, I determined that the two options of selecting the
right and affordable life insurances are MassMutual and Principal Life Insurances. MassMutual
offers Life Time Protection with Life Insurance, flexible payments, Universal Life Insurance and
additional protection and investment options with Variable Universal Life Insurance. Whole Life
Insurance is a permanent policy which gives you guaranteed protection for your loves ones that
last a lifetime. You earned cash value, which you can use however you want. Participating whole
life insurance is eligible to earn dividends, which can increase the death benefit and the cash value.
Term Life Insurance, this may be a great option if you re sure that you want life insurance but you...

Movie Smoke Signals Essay
Movie Smoke Signals
For most of my life, the word Native American had immediately made me think of feathers,
powwows, and a society uncorrupted by civilization. However, in watching the movie Smoke
Signals, a movie that depicts the modern Native American culture, I learned many other things. For
one, I learned that many of the customs that modern Native Americans have are very similar to my
own. I also saw that the family life of the Native Americans in the film had many of the same
problems that my family had undergone in the past years. This film was unlike any that I have
ever seen; therefore, it reached me on a very personal level.
The movie Smoke Signals was set in 1998, with reoccurring flashbacks to the 1980 s on the ... Show

Luckily, Thomas and Victor were okay; however, Arnold s problem with alcohol does not stop
with this horrible mistake. For years he continued to drink and abuse his wife and son, Victor.
When Arnold s wife could not take it anymore, Arnold left the family and moved far away,
missing most of his son s life. My family has also had this problem. I have never been a victim of
child abuse, but my father s abuse of alcohol has impacted me in many ways. When I was about
seven, I was told that my dad was leaving because of his alcoholism. I did not understand at the
time the significance of my parents getting a divorce, but having lived ten years without my
father, I feel I can relate to Victor in many ways. My dad has missed so many important events in
my life, such as making the cheerleading squad, my first prom, and even the day I got my
license. After seeing this movie I realized that even if my dad could recover from alcoholism, it
could never make up for all the years we lost together. Lives are ruined by this terrible addiction
everyday; not only the alcoholic s life, but also the lives of those who love them.
I thought this film was very unique because it shows the true Native American perspective of
everyday life, not the usual phony stereotype of Indians such as teepees and bow and arrows. It also
showed how much Native Americans are not much different than other cultures. Instead of singling
other cultures out or judging people that are different from

Psychological Theories Of Behavioral Finance
Behavioural Finance
Introduction
Behavioural finance is a relatively new area of evolving research in finance. Behavioural finance
seek to combine behavioural and cognitive psychological theory with conventional economics and
finance to get a better understanding for why individual investors make irrational financial
decisions.
According to Sewell (2007), Behavioural finance is the study of the influence of psychology on the
behaviour of financial practitioners and the subsequent effect on markets. The science focuses on
the effects of individual investors making decisions based on hunches or emotions.
Ritter (2003, p.429), describes behavioural finance is based on psychology which suggests that
human decision processes are subject to several cognitive illusions. These illusions are divided into
two groups as illusions caused by heuristic decision process and illusions rooted from the adoption
of mental frames grouped in the prospect theory (Waweru et al., 2008, p.27)
People may make predictable, non optimal choices when faced with difficult and uncertain
decisions because of heuristic simplification. Behavioral biases, abstractly, are defined in the same
way as systematic errors are, in judgment (Chen et al, 2007).
Behavioral finance theories, which are based on the psychology, attempt to understand how the
psychological variables (heuristics, prospect, and herding) and perceived risk behaviour (Risk
Perception, Risk attitude and Risk Propensity) influence individual

The Bloody Chamber Analysis
The gothic genre is a style of writing that is characterized by components of horror, disquietude,
death and romance. There are many conventions to the gothic genre which indulges details on
gothic architecture, spirituality and lucid descriptions in the first person along with dialogues. It is
widely accepted that both the novella, Carmilla and the short stories from The Bloody Chamber
include these aspects of gothic literature. Patriarchal dominance is often defined as a system of
male domination and in gothic fictionit is traditional for the male to in fact save the weak and
fragile female out of danger; further dominating his role. Although Carmilla was written during
the Victorian Era, one would aspect a male dominated patriarchal system to be followed, but Le
Fanu doesn t succumb to the traditional but in fact subverts it by casting the villain as female
who preys on young and vulnerable women ultimately for power. However, where Carmilla does
indeed follow the traditional gothic horror narrative where the victims are always presented as
succumbing to a temptation that inevitably, has metaphysical consequences; in Carmilla the
victims die from an unknown malady. The Bloody Chamber reviews on how unimpeachable fairy
tales encompass strong socio political undertones such as gender roles and presents the nameless
heroine as woman whom is capable of changing her fate, whereby she doesn t die like the other
wives. Similarly, in Carmilla it can also be

Essay about Coming to America
Life is about making choices, but some of them can even change our life. Two years ago I
decided to come to America for my higher studies in Western Kentucky University. Although I
knew it was really a challenge to me, this significant decision that I ve made was going to change
everything about my life and me. There are many things in life that can change the course of a
person s life. It can either make a positive impact or a negative impact on a person s life. It s
always best to have the positive impact though. For me I have had a positive experience that has
changed my life forever and that is coming to a different land and culture.

Arriving in a new country was exciting and discomforting. America is a wonderful place to live,
which is full of adventure and challenges. I was attracted by the Western culture. Meanwhile,
different languages also troubled me. Although I began to learn English in elementary school from
ABC, my listening and oral abilities tend not to be adequate. I have to study hard to improve my
English, so that I can understand what the people said.
Since I came to America, I made great progress not only with foreign languages but also with my
adaptive capabilities. From what I saw, read, and talked with my friends, I realized that I am
improving more and more. In the past two years, I learned a lot more here. This experience not
only broadens my view but also enriches my life. It changed my life for the good.
I am a changed and a better person, I have direction for my life, and I have an amazing friend

maintaining my old values and customs. According to me people come to the States to pursue
many interests. But in my opinion, coming to this country as a student is the best way to feel its

Valley Winery
Valley Winery, a successful wine company based in California is quite profitable but faces many
problems in their organization. Such problems consist firstly of a very high employee rate
turnover rate. This rate is actually 100% per year. Each year they hire an average of fifty sales
people per year and the longest working sales rep has only two years of experience with the
company. A second problem facing this organization is its complications with management
skills.
And the third problem is the lack of skills that salesmen possess
The problem of the high employee rate is a large issue. This mainly because the reduction in the
turnover of employees will definitely increased profitability keeping it easier to obtain future sales.

With regards to continuous restructuring of the company. This issue is a big factor that even
stimulates the first problem. With the re evaluation of the organizational structure the employees
tend to lose confidence and trust in those in charge and therefore their performance is hindered
because of this. Concerning the hiring skills of the company it is very inefficient such as recruiting
college kids, newspaper advertisements, employment agencies and job notices on job search
websites. These hiring skills are very costly and time consuming. The high expectations of
management to meet high quotas is unreasonable and thus puts pressure on the salesmen causing
them to perform unethical actions such as posting incorrect sales figures just to please their
managers. Options that can assist the firm in these issues are by management evaluating the
company and making a consistent and permanent organizational structure. To make the hiring
process more efficient it needs to be shorter in length, be specific in the characteristics of the
potential employee to avoid the many steps and narrow the amount of hiring methods to reduce
costs. Not stretching quotas is another factor that needs to be considered by management. This can
be done through lowering their expectations of sales in the same time frame that currently exists
making them realistic, give incentives if they need to be stretched, employ feedback from sales
persons so as to assign comfortable quotas around each

The Laws Affects People s Everyday Life And A Business
The law affects people s everyday life and a business is not an exception. There are many
definitions of law, but nor one can be generally accepted, because with so many types of the law,
these definitions cannot cover every aspect of the law properly. Therefore, the law can be simply
described as the principles, rules and regulations, created by the state (the parliament) and
established within a community.
From the history, in the time of Henry II, the law was based only on the customs that were then
applied by all other judges all around the country, known as common law. Common law principles
created the basis for today s law and helps distinguish between the law created by previous
decisions and the law created by legislation. For instance, murder is a common law because it is
not defined by the Act of Parliament, unlike theft what is defined by Theft Act 1968. Martin(2010)
Since the Human Right Act 1998 section 2(1)(a) English law is determined by the European
Union and the judge must take into account human right cases of the European Court of Justice as
well as the English law cases. However, it is very different from the other countries law. In
contrast, while deciding a case in the UK, judge is bound to apply a judicial precedent of a higher
court, based on the previous cases judgements and principles known as ratio decidendi (the reason
for deciding), rather than being only guided by previous cases like other European Union countries.

Essay on Emerson
In Emerson s Self Reliance we see the crowning work of the transcendentalist movement. In this
piece Emerson explains his belief in the innate divinity of man and defines our quot;Self Reliance
quot; as the broad identity in which we personally participate. Emerson challenges his readers to
not conform to traditional practices in a variety of realms. However, he punctuates just four aspects
of these challenges to tradition and they are: religion, education, art, and society. I found these
passages to be the best representativesof Emerson s ideology due to their poignancy and numbered
paragraphs. He talksof these challenges to man as revolutions due to a greater self reliance. The
profoundness of thought in this piece is surprising to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second numerated passage Emerson challenges the realm of Classical Education and the
way wealthy New Englanders regard such old world education as being the best. For years
Americans had been sending their prestigious young men overseas to be immersed in the classic
culture and regionalism Europe offers. This is objected to by Emerson for the reason that
everything you need is inside you. History is your history; culture is your culture; art is your art;
beauty is your beauty, etc. He says, quot; The soul is no traveller; the wise man stays at home,
and when his necessities, his duties, on any occasion call him from his house, or into foreign
lands, he is at home. . . quot; (Robinson 104). He is emphasizing the idea that all which makes up
a man, all which defines him, is in his immediate and homebound presence and therefore resides
within him wherever he goes. He believes in the benefit of travel quot;for the purposes of art, of
study, and benevolence. . . quot; (Robinson 104), but as for one who is traveling to acquire or
attain that which he does not have, Emerson says we travel away from ourselves and in our
search we carry only quot;ruins to ruins quot; (Robinson 104). The end of this passage was
especially interesting to me. He talks of his travel from home envisioning beauty and losing his
sadness. However, when he physically arrives

Topeka Plant Adopted In 1979 To Support Its Mass...
Q1: Do the traditional accounting practices that the Topeka plant adopted in 1979 to support its
mass production process have value in a lean environment? Explain the specific reasons that support
your answer.
In general, we do not think that traditional accounting practices that Topeka plant adopted in 1979
to support its mass production would fit into the lean accounting environment. The differences
between the two accounting methods make the traditional accounting hard to work for the lean
environment. We would analyze from the following perspectives:

When inventories are low and under good control, the valuation of inventory becomes much less
complex. Lean Accounting contains a number of methods for valuing inventory that are simple,
accurate and often visual. Several of these methods do not require any computer based inventory
tracking at all. * Implement a Pull System where customer demand dictates the production level.
Visual controls are used to trigger upstream links in the value stream to initiate additional
productions. Automatically signals replenish the parts of upstream links without the need to
prepare paperwork such as a material requisition. * Assign the days of inventory (DOI) metric to
staff members responsible for buying materials for each value stream. Buyer should focus on
improving the pull and flow of inventory and on reducing inventory levels. A reduction in days of
inventory is much easier to see rather than a one tenth of a point improvement in a site inventor turn
under traditional measurement systems. Using DOI metric at the value stream level, buyers begin
to see how their actions on reducing inventory result in actual improvement of inventory level. *
Establish a task time. Task time is the average production time allowing for each unit of demand
and is calculated by taking the total operating time available during a period and dividing it by the
number of units demanded by the customer during that period. Task time

Finding the Greatest Amount of Product with a Spectrophotometer
Introduction For the enzyme experiment, I hypothesized that test tube number one would have the
greatest amount of product. My lab partners and I believed that number one would have the most
significant amount of product because it had the highest mL amount of the potato extract. The
potato extract is the enzyme of the investigation being used which is catecholase (Picture 4). The
substrate in the investigation is catechol (Picture 6), and the reddish brown product is called
benzoquinone (Figure 2). Enzymes are proteins that help the speeding up of chemical reactions.
Enzymes will never destroy unless pH, salt, and temperature negatively affect it. When the enzyme
is finished with one substrate, it moves on to another one directly after. According to the lab
manual by Pearson (2011), substrates are the reactant molecules that are being changed by the
enzyme. It is known that when the substance is an enzyme, it ends in letters ase. Substrates and
enzymes have a lock and key relationship with one another. The key in the relationship is the
substrate, and the lock in the relationship is the enzyme (Cap, 2016). An example of an enzyme
and substrate relationship is sucrase and sucrose. The enzyme sucrase positions the sucrose, which
is table salt, in a way that it can be broken down into the parts of glucose and fructose (Figure 1).

Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
In William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, the concept of love is explored as a
foolish and quite silly thing, with exaggeration and imagery used to display the ridiculousness of
the whole thing. It makes good use of reversed Shakespearean love quadrangles, interchangeable
love interests, faerie magic, and metaphors for the blindness of loveto weave a wonderful satire of
the silliest of mortal concepts.
We start by observing the dynamic between Lysander, Demetrius, Hermia, and Helena. At the start
of the play, both Lysander and Demetrius are in love with Hermia. Hermia is in love with
Lysander, and Helena, oft forgotten, is in love with Demetrius. After some faerie trickery and love
magic, however, both men are suddenly in love with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many a student reading this play complain of not being able to tell the two women apart. Their
names are quite similar, and there is little to distinguish one from the other in character as well. In
the beginning, and in the end, the love quadrangle is nearly identical, differing only by three letters.
Thus, the entire affair is absurd and pointless and therein lies the comedy. Next, let us talk about
the affair between Bottom and Titania. Titania is the Queen of the Faeries, a most important
figure, and the partner of the Faerie King Oberon. Oberon is jealous of a particular Indian boy of
Titania s, but she won t just give him up. So he sends Puck out to drug Titania with love potion,
so when she awakes she ll fall in love with the first thing she sees, no matter how horrid. Then,
Puck goes a wandering, and finds an enterprising young thespian, with the unfortunate name of
Bottom, and wryly decides to give him the head of a donkey. The pun is not lost on many readers.

The New Testament Gospel By Matthew, Mark, Luke And John Form
The four New Testament gospel books, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John form a conclusive and
powerful portrait of Jesus Christ as the sent son of God. The four books are not in any way
explaining the biography of Christ s complete life, but rather trying to give the fundamental truth of
Christianity, the great truths of the gospeland who Jesusreally is. Each of the named gospel writers
gives a clear and personal perspective of Christ as guided by the Holy Ghost and the themes that
correspond to Jesus. With the exception of the gospel written by John, the other three give some
considerable presentation of well known and familiar accounts and teachings only to be
underscored by the distinct teachings and accounts that support their complete thoughts. These
thoughts by the three writers are brought to a conclusion by John the Apostle, who interprets the
life of Jesus by emphasizing his personhood. Though many writers describe Jesus differently, we
will always come to the conclusion that he is God in flesh.
In Matthew Jesus is portrayed as the Jewish light this is where Jesus was emphasizes the
importance of the Jewish law to his people. Also, Jesus is the authoritative teacher and the king of
the Jews. Also, Matthew clearly points to Jesus divinity since only God can change the laws that
he had given to the people. The gospel of Matthew, Matthew s gospel, is the first book of the four

Oedipus Character Analysis
In the tragedy, Oedipus the king, by Sophocles, the main character Oedipus rules a city called
Thebes. Oedipus, being a tragic hero, was always destined for disaster, but one of the major key
parts that contributed to his downfall was his uncontrollable temper. As a child, he was destined,
by Apollo, to marry his mother and murder his father. So he ran away from his hometown Corinth
in attempt to avoid his destiny, but he unfortunately could not avoid it. He has always been a very
angry and irritable person, but the most important parts of his life that determined his success or
failure was always interrupted by his temper. Oedipuss temper can interrupt Oedipus s life at very
important times. The first example of his anger is when he kills the driver, which ended up
being his father. As he explains his story he says, In anger I struck the driver as he tried to crowd
me off. (pg 45) This example shows how Oedipus s temper can get out of control and can
actually lead to the death of someone. This is significant because this is the part of the play when
Oedipus kills King Laius, his father, literally fulfilling the prophecy, which stated that Oedipus was
going to murder his father, and marry his mother. He completed one half of the prophecy because
he couldn t control his anger. This is important because this shows how Oedipus s temper can
overcome his actions and cause him to go out of control. Although Oedipus didn t know that the
driver was his father, he should never

The Absurd, By Camus
The philosophy of the Absurd is Camus answer to the question of life and whether it is worth
living. In the opening line of The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus states that there is One truly serious
philosophical problem, and that is suicide. Judging whether life is or is not worth living amounts to
answering the fundamental question of philosophy. (495) Absurdismbegins by questioning the
purpose of life and the response, or lack of response from the indifferent silence of the universe. It
reveals the void one might encounter in the search for the meaning of life. (Seniuk 162) Absurdism
is the belief that human life is meaningless, and that it is up to the individual to decide how they
will react to this idea; to find their own meaning or lack of.
Camus suggests that Suicide offers the most basic way out of absurdity. If life has no meaning,
then the only choice would be suicide. Death would then negate any and all human aspiration and
achievements an individual would have. (Baltzer Jaray 12) Though in order not to exaggerate this,
Camus states that In a man s attachment to life there is something stronger than all the ills in the
world. (499) And that We get into the habit of living before acquiring the habit of thinking. (499)
Subsequently Camus gives us another option to against suicide, recovery. When an individual
decides that life is worth living one chooses to live in the face of the Absurd as absurd and
positively move forward with acceptance. (Francev 32)

Letter no.15: Trade in Quebec City; general trade of the country and of his majesty s domain

much as they can on north America, before the control of British rulers it was a colony of French
as the author stated the entire colony is granted as seigneuries and as the custom of Paris is
observed here (father Antoine Silvy 97). The reason stated to write this letter was to pass
information regarding trade between Quebec and other cities to the Majesty the king of England.
The exchange in goods were between various states, such as America, French, British and several

Ipo vs Fpo
1. INTRODUCTION
Initial Public Offering (IPO), also sometimes simply referred to as a Public Issue is the first sale of
stock by a private company to the public. Public issues are done by both small as well as large
companies seeking capital to expand business. It is also sometimes done by large privately owned
companies looking to become publicly traded.
When an already listed company makes either a fresh issue of securities to the public or an offer
for sale to the public, through an offer document, it is called Further Public Offering or FPO .
According to industry experts , IPO gives very high abnormal returns with a shorter period of time

Even long established private companies can access the IPO route to raise capital, and become
publicly traded companies as a result. An IPO is considered as a rite of passage into the big
league of publicly traded stocks. Any company that needs to be listed on a stock exchange has to
offer its shares to the public.
In addition to IPO, an already listed and publicly traded company may issue an FPO a Follow on
Public Offer to raise further capital for the company. At any given time, there are a number of IPO
and FPO issues floating around in the market, therefore, it is essential to understand the difference
between the two.
Shares issued in an IPO are bought in the primary market, while shares brought from another
investor are exchanged in the secondary market. The distinct between primary and secondary
market is notional, there is no physical separation between the two. An important distinction

We Must Stop The Slaughter House
Imagine from the moment you are born you are taken away from your mother, mutilated without
anesthesia, and forced into a small cage that is already over capacity. From then on you almost
never get to leave this cage this is where you will spend the rest of your days. You are beaten,
thrown around, and even electrocuted until a certain day, the reason you were born, is here.
Today is the day you are going to be slaughtered. You are crammed into a truck, feeling fresh air
for the first time, for transportation with many others and then taken to the slaughter house.
Once inside you are put into a tight shoot and stunned many times to try and make the process
more humane to no avail. You are pushed through the shoot to a scalding tank that is used to
soften your skin and remove your hair, most likely happening while still conscious. This is how
you die. Being mistreated until the very end and dying a very painful death and never knowing
why this is happening to you. This is the kind of suffering that farm animals go through until
their life is ripped away from them. These horrors tell us that animals are being treated
inhumanly on farms so that companies can make a profit. Cutting corners by not following the
proper slaughter procedure and keeping animals in cages, not allowing them to roam freely
allows large companies to produce meat at a cheaper cost then sell it to other businesses for a
large profit. My question that I hope to answer in this paper will be: is there

Introduction: Early Childhood is an important stage of children s life. By interacting with people
around (each other and the adults), children explore and make sense of the world around them. A
successful early childhood curriculum should fulfill children s need to give children rich
experience at the most important developmental stage of their lives. This paper will critically
discuss, compare and contrast High/Scope, Reggio Emilia to Te Whariki, at the end of this paper
the author will talk about own philosophy of early childhood education.

Adult/Child Interaction means that shared control between adults and children is central to the
High/Scope Curriculum. In addition to sharing control, adults in a High/Scope classroom
participate in children s play, conversa as partners with them, focus on children s strengths and
offer them support, and encourage children s problem solving. Lists of recommended key
experiences (58 of them) have been compiled and incorporated into the High/Scope curriculum, to
further children s mental, physical, social and emotional development. These key experiences fall
into ten categories: creative representation, language and literacy, initiative and social relations,

Charges to customer accounts should be dated with the date of shipment.
Sales invoices are prepared in batches on a daily basis using numbered sales invoices. Sales invoice
numbers are automatically generated by the company s computer system. The accounts receivable
clerk does not have appropriate computer rights to override the computer generated invoice
number. Upon preparing sales invoices, the accounts receivable clerk verifies that the first invoice
number of the batch is consistent with the last invoice number of the previous batch.
Inconsistencies or skipped sales invoice numbers are investigated and resolved before new sales
invoices are prepared. The items shipped are compared to the items billed for proper quantity,
price, and other sales order terms.
The accounting department supervisor compares and reconciles a copy of the daily sales invoice

Talia open and closed the pocket watch. Opened, close, reopened, closed. The metal had grown
warm in her hands, and the clicking sound it made made had started to dull. The pastor
continued to drone on about her father. What a good man he was, and what a great loss it was to
their community. She smiled bitterly. Not many people had actually liked him. One could only
describe her father as guarded. She pulled the sleeves on her sweater back over her wrists and

Who Is Billy Budd A Hero
In his work Billy Budd, Sailor, Herman Melville portrays the protagonist, Billy Budd, as an
excellent sailor and diligent worker who is emotionally underdeveloped. Billy is written as being
naive and good natured, and fails to see the evil that lurks within people. Billy s personal
attributes, his impressment by the British Navy, as well as the wrongful wishes of other men upon
his his ship are all attributes to the Handsome Sailor s downfall. After reading this novella, I have
concluded that Billy Buddis a victim of many wrongful deeds done by man and by man s wars, but
Billy is a victim of his own naivety as well.
In the first paragraph of the novella, the narrator describes Billy Budd as being the Handsome
Sailor of his merchant ship, the Rights of Man. He was well liked by his crewmates and also well
respected due to previous confrontations, such as his brief fight with Red Whiskers. Captain
Graveling, when speaking to Lieutenant Ratcliffe, even stated how they all love him (1).
Unfortunately for Billy, his natural physical ability in combination with his good naturedness made
him a victim of his own success. Upon boarding the ship searching for men to recruit for the navy,

was to no avail, as Dansker merely repeated his warning. After this however, the narrator writes
how two officers, the Armorer and Captain of the Hold, began to began to cast upon Billy when
they chanced to encounter him (17). This played directly against Billy s naivety, another

British Colonialism And The Impact Of British Imperialism...
British imperialism affected Trinidad in a negative way. When the British took over Trinidad,
slavery began. When slavery was brought to Trinidad, it caused the people of Trinidad to become
depressed along with the rest of the world. When the British decided to join the colonies Trinidad
and Tobago, Trinidad s sugar economy started to collapse. With the collapse of the economy and
commodity prices rising, workers started to riot in Trinidad. Together these made the people and
the colony of Trinidad difficult to work and live.
While researching these topics, I used history articles and nonfiction books. I used these because
they gave me the most useful information for my topics. They helped me have a better
understanding of how the British and how imperialism affected Trinidad and it s people. Having
the right and the best information will make for a better paper.
Imperialism is a type of government that seeks to increase its size, either by forcing (through war)
or influencing (through politics) other countries to submit to their rule. While researching about
imperialism, I found that many articles explained how imperialism affected this colony in a way
that I understand it.
Slavery in Trinidad is the first reason to why imperialism in Trinidad was negative. For example,
Between 1518 and 1870, the transatlantic slave trade supplied the greatest proportion of the
Caribbean population (Countrystudies.us). This explains that Trinidad s slave trade was so bad,
that the development of their colony was ten times harder. The slavery that the British began in
Trinidad, became a major cause for how bad Trinidad s development would be. Another example
of how slavery affected Trinidad, Even after the end of slavery and apprenticeship the Caribbean
was not totally free. Former enslaved people received no compensation and had limited
representation in the legislature s (Nationalarchives.gov.uk). Even though the slaves did not have
to work anymore, their lives in Trinidad still were not the best that they could have been. The
slave trade was a big part of why the people of Trinidad suffered from depression that was
happening all over the world.
Depression in Trinidad was the second factor that contributed to how negative

Violence In Colonial America
The process of colonization in the Americas was a complex and complicated series of events,
each driven by the varied interests of an array of European empires. For some, the Americas were
a world of untold riches, while for others, this discovery allowed for missionary efforts to convert
Native Americans to their faith. Regardless of the reason, violence against the many Native
Americans who inhabited this new land was a common colonization tool to achieve these means.
Direct violence is the most well known approach, one that Spain wielded so effectively that the
Black Legend was created to attest to their cruelty. Yet, the violence used was not all direct in
nature. Cultural violence, which England employed itself, was used just as often. Overall, though
the Black Legend has led to Spain being viewed as the most violent colonizer in the Americas,
England s use of indirect violence through engagement in the fur tradeand missionary efforts was
just as destructive to Native Americans. As mentioned above, the concept of violence used in
colonization, especially that of the Americas, is usually thought of in only one form. The word
conjures images of conquistadores storming villages, officials forcing Natives into slavery, and the
brutal killings of those who did not adhere to European rule and religious ideals. This is a direct
and vivid form of violence. However, violence in colonization extended into another variety. Indirect
violence, which was much more common after

Comparing Hume And Leibniz s Pre-Established Harmony
God is not important in the philosophy of Hume and Nietzsche given that their works refer to the
tenets of naturalism rather than focusing on whether actions are right or wrong. In fact, Nietzsche
believed that God is dead. As such, he does not ascribe to the views from Kant that God s
commandments are ingrained in the rationality of human beings. According to Nietzsche, there is
no such thing as moral facts. Accordingly, Hume was a naturalist whose work was not base on
deontological maxims. Both Hume and Nietzsche believed that no human belief is based on
rational justification. In this regard, the two philosophers argued that humans could not believe in
morality given that none of their beliefs has a rational basis.
Leibniz s Pre established Harmony refers to a philosophical theory relating to causation whereby
every substance affects only itself, but every substance interacts casually with each other because
God has programmed them to complement each other. Leibniz s uses the Pre established Harmony
to explain how the mind interacts with the body. With regard to the Pre established Harmony, Kant
would have termed it an unjustified fantasy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Hegel questions the authenticity of Leibniz s assertion by asking why God could not
choose any other means if he merely uses evil to achieve good. Hegel s seeks to understand the

The Benefits Of The Agricultural Industry
The USDA recorded value of crop production in the United States in the year 2015 was 186.2
billion dollars. The agricultural industry in America is an economic giant. It provides a consistent
food supply to many countries around the world, not to mention the United Sates. It stimulates and
stabilizes the economy, all while bringing in billions of dollars every year. While these things are
very beneficial to this country, the agricultural industry also depends, at least in part, on funding
from the government through agricultural subsidies. The Free Dictionary (2003) defines
agricultural subsidies as Payments by the federal government to producers of agricultural products

This program, which we still see in effect through CRP (Conservation Reserve Program) land,
was intended to be temporary, but it has lasted as a way to conserve the environment. Although
the amount of CRP land and the way that subsidies are issued has changed, the idea has carried
on and so have subsidies. Farmers today are still paid through subsidies whether they produce a
good crop or not, so to many, it seems very backward to pay farmers not to produce crops.
Finally, as Bruckner (2016) states, ...many advocates for reform have argued that when subsidies
are unlimited, they provide the nation s largest farms the financial resources to bid up land prices
and drive their smaller neighbors out of farming (p. 623). Subsidies as they are currently issued
(without a limit) give a great advantage to the largest farms in America, and hurt many small to mid
sized farms. Urry (2015) says that in the past two decades, only 10 percent of farms are using over
75 percent of subsidized government funding. This is one of the major problems, not with the
principal of agricultural subsidies, but with the government policy surrounding agricultural
subsidies. For this reason, government policy on agricultural subsidies should be reformed to cut
costs, ensure an environmental outlook, and make spending more sensible. Agricultural subsidies
were created to ensure that the farmers

Most children want to be dancers, singers, doctors, lawyers, etc. I always wanted to be a lawyer and

Because judiciary professionals face three main issues on a regular basis, the judge is
responsible for coming up with a decision. The prosecutor is responsible for having enough
evidence to pursue a trial. The prosecutor is the representative of the state and wields tremendous
power (Wright, 2012). The defense attorney is responsible for proving beyond a shadow and a
doubt that the client is innocent. The job of the defense attorney is, by any standard, difficult. It is
difficult for a variety of reasons. First, defendants often talk to the police without an attorney
present. When they do this, they themselves in crimes and to provide police with evidence that can
later be used against them. Second, defense attorneys often handle so many cases that it is simply
impossible for them to understand the details of each case. To manage the large number of criminal
cases they are responsible for, defense attorneys often have little choice but to spend only a few
minutes with each defendant and to base their legal recommendations on the information they
receive from their clients and the prosecutor s office. Third, most of the defendants in the criminal
justice system are from the lower socioeconomic classes. These defendants sometimes do not fully

Paul s Life And Ministry
Paul s Life and Ministry There is much to be learned from the life and ministry of the Apostle
Paul. Far from ordinary, within the scope of God s purpose was the selection of a man who would
be chiefly responsible for carrying out the postresurrection commission of Jesus to the Twelve by
proclaiming the fulfilment of the promise of Abraham (McRay, 2003). This man was Paul of Tarsus
(Gal. 1:15 16), who s story is one of redemption in Christ coupled with a testimony that no one is
beyond the saving grace of the Lord JesusChrist.
Paul s early life
Paul, who was actually named Saul was born and spent his earliest years in the Diaspora, the
dispersion of the Jews outside the borders of the Holy Land (McRay, 2003). He was from a
devout Jewish family that residing in the city of Tarsus in Cilicia, which at the time was
considered as one of the largest trade centers on the Mediterranean coast. Not much is known as to
how Paul s family became Roman citizens, but Paul himself was identified as a born citizen (Acts
22:27 28). However, his lineage can be traced to the Hebrew tribe of Benjamin. In addition to being
associated with the tribe of Benjamin, the family had a history of religious devoutness. For the
family s religious devoutness was further revealed when traces of extensive attachment to Pharisaic
traditions and observation throughout the generations were unveiled (Gundry, 1970).

Internationalization refers to the increasing importance of international trade, international relations,
treaties, alliances.2.
Regionalisation means a less interconnected world , with a stronger regional spirit. (Mercosur for
example).
A definition of Globalisation would be that : Globalisation typically refers to the process by which
different economies and societies become more closely integrated3.
Another definition would be that: Globalisation describes a process by which national and regional
economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through the global network of trade,
communication, immigration and transportation. 4
According to those definitions, globalisation seems to be a process that creates an international
market for goods and services, that creates a rise of standardised norms and social behaviour, that
facilitated centralisation of international politics through supranational entities such as the United
Nations, the World Bank or the World Trade organisation.
Looking towards history, markets has been increasingly integrated to a global market, which was
followed by the spread of ideologies (liberalism, democracy, capitalism, human right).

Argumentative Essay On Co-Rumination
Co rumination is a moderately new development, alluding to widely examining and returning to
issues, guessing about issues, and concentrating on negative emotions with associates. Despite the
fact that it is like self exposure in that it includes uncovering and examining an issue, it is more
centered on the issues themselves and in this manner can be maladaptive. While selfexposure is
seen as a positive angle found in close kinships, a few sorts of self revelation can likewise be
maladaptive. Co rumination is a sort of conduct that is emphatically associated with both
rumination and self exposure and has been connected to a background marked by uneasiness in
light of the fact that co ruminating may compound stresses over whether issues will be determined,
about negative results of issues, and depressive findings because of the steady negative spotlight on
upsetting themes, rather than critical thinking. In any case, co rumination is likewise firmly
connected with superb kinships and closeness. (Wikipedia, 2014)... Show more content on

The origins and reactions make coffee flavour a complexity science to study and also explain why
coffees exhibit such diverse, unique and specific flavours. (Sunarharum et al., 2004)
Sunarharum et al. (2004) summarised that coffee volatiles compounds consist of a wide range of
chemical class like hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, ester, pyrazines,
sulphur compounds, furans, phenols among others. Furans are one of the aroma active compound
quantitatively high which show significant concentration found in roasted coffee and brew coffee

or unsaturated fatty acid during roasting. The volatile exhibit malty and sweet roasted aroma with
a relatively high sensory threshold but due to their high concentration, furans still show
importance in coffee aroma. (Flament, 2002) Roasting coffee beans also produced furanones,
mainly by Maillard reaction and other side reaction. (Gloess, et al., 2014) Furanones in roasted
coffee are as abundant as furans which shows significant volatile properties and sensory potency.
As seen in Coffee Flavour Chemistry (2002), 3 Furanone is one of the furanone commonly found

1.2 The impact of ICT?
Multitasking in the workplace long predates ICT, but ICT, if not a prerequisite for multitasking, is
a significant enabler and amplifier of multitasking. From an ICT evaluation perspective, it is
therefore pertinent to ask: Whether such modes of working (learning is a separate question) are
better in some (or any) sense than monotasking? and When and if is multitasking a beneficial
development in the workplace?
There is, as will be seen below, a body of research addressing the first of these questions, but little
research which looks at the second. Furthermore, only a modest portion of this research is to be
found in the IT evaluation literature (or in the wider IS literature). There is a embryonic body of

Gender Stereotypes In Trifles By Susan Glaspell
In earlier cultures, women s job was to bear children, cook, clean, and to be submissive to their
husband. A man s job was to work, take care of the farm, and was to be the dominant individual in
the marriage. With both the husband and wife doing their daily duties, the household would go
smoothly. However, certain men in the 19th centurybegan to degrade women. Making women feel
worthless and unimportant. Wives, daughters and sisters were left at home all day to oversee the
domestic duties that were increasingly carried out by servants (The British Library). In the play
Trifles, the play writer wants the audience to believe that stereotypes is inappropriate because it is
wrong to assume something about an individual based solely on their gender. Throughout this play,
written by Susan Glaspell, there are several instances where both genders were not portrayed as
equal. In the play, Hale stated Well, women are used to worrying over trifles (Glaspell, 25). The
word trifles means something unimportant or of little value (Webster s II New College
Dictionary). Here, Hale is basically saying that women worry over the small things in life,
instead of focusing on what really matters. Later on in the play, the women focusing over trifles
is of great benefit to the women, and it allows the women to have an upper hand over the men.
Traditionally a middle class girl in Western culture tended to learn from her mother s example
that cooking, cleaning, and caring for children was the behavior expected of her when she grew
up (WIC Women s History in America). This statement links to the play in many different ways.
It is evident that the women had the job of making sure the house looked presentable to any
family and/or guests that entered the home. In the play, the County Attorney says Dirty towels!
Not much of a housekeeper, would you say, ladies? (Glaspell, 25). In this line, it is evident that
the County Attorney expected that Mrs. Wright should have always had clean towels under the
sink instead of dirty ones. It is then that Mrs. Hale chimed in to say Those towels het dirty awful
quick. Men s hands aren t always as clean as they might be (Glaspell, 25). Here, Mrs. Hale is trying

The elevated levels of cortisol that occur as a result of PPID are believed to contribute to the
insensitivity of stimulation and the resistance of laminitis. When the cortisol is secreted by the
pituitary gland it interferes with the lamellar perfusing, causing a vasoconstrictive response in the
equine digital arteries to the catecholamines. Also a cortisol excess results in protein catabolism in
the skin, connective tissue, bone and skeletal muscle, impaired wound healing, muscle atrophy
derived data are pointing to the fact that inflammation leads a pivotal role in laminitis (Johnson).
Some experts also believe that stress can lead to a horse becoming laminitic because of the
increased cortisol secretion that occurs due to stress. Since Laminitis is so incredibly painful for
the horses and ponies affected it causes them to experience extreme stress, which in turn causes a
dramatic spike in cortisol levels

The Holocaust Of The Nazi Concentration And Death Camps
Holocaust survivors give great insight to the realities of what the life was like within the gates
of the Nazi concentration and death camps. Not to say that the research of historians, writers,
and professors does not provide pivotal information to the study of the Holocaust; but their
research provides secondary sources and accounts. Primary sources for historic moments allows
a reader to get into the mind and psyche of the writer who is sharing his or hers experiences. The
ability to become one with their most inner thoughts of fear, sadness, despair, happiness, joy, etc.
makes a reader feel as if they are going through these moments alongside them. For survivors of
the Holocaust, concentration camps, death camps, and World War II; such a connection is created
with their listeners, viewers and readers by way of these primary sources. With father time
working against them, the chances to speak with or listen to these individuals in person are
quickly and sadly coming to an end. Which leaves society to use the literature of these surviving
people to truly understand what life was like for them during the reign of terror caused by Adolf
Hitlerand his Nazi regime. Primo Levi s, Survival in Auschwitz, offers just that connected and
emotion to current and future generated as he illustrates what life was like for Jewish people
during the Holocaust and World War II while surviving in concentration camps. Primo is a survivor
of one of the most infamous Nazi concentration camps

Analysis Of Epiphenomenal Qualia By Frank Jackson
In the paper Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson presents the concept of Qualia and the
knowledge argument in order to prove physicalism false. Jackson s knowledge argument introduces
a thought experiment about a neuroscientist called Mary. His thought experiment is designed to
refute physicalismby showing that there is non physical knowledge in the world. However, there
are many flaws in Jackson s thought experiment that lead to its ultimate failure in proving that
physicalism is wrong, such as its appeal to a misleading intuition, the ambiguity of its premises,
and the assumption that it is possible to gain all physical knowledge of colorfrom a colorless room.
Jackson explains that the goal of his paper is to refute physicalism by using an argument rather
than relying merely on intuitions. He makes a declaration that he is what people call a qualiafreak.
He describes qualia as the raw feel or quality of experiences that we have. There is something that
the hurtfulness of pains, the itchiness of itches, pangs of jealousy... tasting a lemon, smelling a
rose, hearing a loud noise or seeing the sky feels like (127). There s a natural feeling or a sensation
that all these conscious experiences bring for the person experiencing them. Jackson claims that
qualia cannot be explained by any kind of physical information, since our knowledge of the
structure of the brain, its physical states, and the function of those states is not enough to tell us

Dynamic Influences Of Culture On Cooperation
According to Dynamic influences of culture on cooperation in the prisoner s dilemma (2005) by
Wong Hong, cultural symbols affect people s behavior in specific situational contexts. In order to
substantiate this hypothesis, the authors used a three by two between subjects method, with one
hundred and seventy one participants. In the study, the independent variable was icons, either from
American, Chinese, or neutral backgrounds. Additionally, the three dependent variables studied
were cooperation versus defect, expectation of cooperation, and motivation to maximize join
outcome (Wong Hong, 430). Furthermore, the measures of cultural priming were measured by
exposing participants to seven slides of Chinese cultural icons, such as a Chinese dragon, American
cultural icons, such as the American flag, or neutral primes, such as geometry. The participants
were assigned randomly to the prime conditions and the procedure for each primes required
participants to answered questions related to the prime they were assigned to, such as naming the
objects or describing the ideas represented. According to the authors, research has shown that these
procedures elicit the cultural knowledge systems among individuals that were needed in this study.
After introducing the cultural primes, the study asked the participants to play a strategy game,
where outcomes depended on strategies chosen by the participant, and resulted in points gained or
lost. However, different strategies yielded

Don t be an ugly American
You re a proud American and that s admirable. But boasting about your proud heritage in a
country that s been to battle with the U.S. may be a bad idea. Not everyone loves your homeland
like you do. Don t be that ugly American criticizing strange customs and cultural differences. Don t
get so drunk or high that everyone becomes your friend (or enemy). You ll just enrage the locals
and become an easy target for crime.
Don t walk alone at night
Walking alone at night in a foreign city is not advisable whether you re female or male. If you
find yourself alone at night walk on the same side of the street where other people are walking
so that you don t stand out as walking alone. If you do think you are being followed don t
continue on to where you are staying. Stop and ask security or the police for help. You can also
walk into any restaurant or hotel, even if it s not your own and ask for help.
Keep a copy of the address to where you are staying
In both English and the native tongue of the country you are in, keep a copy of your address on
your phone. Write it also in a notebook that you keep in your bag or wallet. In fact, everyone in
your group should do the same in case you separate and lose your friends.

Coevolution And Evolutionary Responses At First Thought
Coevolution and Evolutionary Responses At first thought, it might seem as if everything is
involved in coevolution. This assumption might be drawn due to the fact that basically every
organism interacts with another organism and possibly influences their evolution in some way.
However, this assumption depends entirely on one s definition of coevolution. There are many
other forms of evolutionary responses other than coevolution including: evolutionary relationships
between antagonists, evolutionary equilibrium, genetic variation in competitive ability, and
character displacement, all which will be discussed later on. In fact, all of these evolutionary
responses revolve around the idea that interacting populations tend to evolve in response to
features which affect evolutionary strength. First, species evolve in ways that improve, or at
least maintain, their ability to live. Communities, however, do not undergo the same process. No
community evolves as a unit. Species may evolve in ways that are mostly influenced by ecology.
This means that species evolve by their relationship with one or a few species, which in turn
allows the others to evolve as well. Coevolution is commonly described as a change in the genetic
composition of one species, or group, in response to a genetic change in another and was coined by
Ehrlich and Raven after observing plant herbivore interactions. Around the same time, Charles
Darwin published The Origin of Species, which also spoke of the

Anti-War Movement During the Vietnam War Essay
Anti War Movement During the Vietnam War
As the Vietnam war heavily covered by the media, the devastating images were broadcasted
across the globe. People were able to watch the war from their armchair and many American
people were disgraced by the images of children dying and innocent people being shot dead in
villages. A perfect example of this, is the My Lai massacrewhich took place in 1968. The images
appalled people all over the world, especially American people who felt ashamed of their country s
soldiers. Middle America began to realise the harsh consequences of the Vietnam War.
I believe that the media coverage sparked the protesting across America, however there were

Soldiers were most likely to die in the first month . I think that this would spark protest because
as soldiers were dying within the first month, it meant that even more soldiers had to be sent to
Vietnam, who would also be likely to die within the first month. I think that this would have led
to protesting of students, as they were strong believers of free will. The tour of duty in Vietnam
was one year , Just as a soldiers began gaining experience he was sent home . These two
statements suggest to me that the death rate of American soldiers would increase. Just as a soldier
has adapted to the jungle and the way of life in Vietnam, he would be sent home and an
inexperienced soldier, not used to the jungle would be sent to Vietnam and the chances are that he
would not survive the first few months. I think the veterans sent home from Vietnam, would have a
huge impact on the protest movement, as many had lost limbs and were scarred, some even
emotionally scarred. The veterans would have told many stories about the awful conditions of the
jungle and the terrifying images that will never ever leave their minds. This source definitely has
sufficient evidence to explain why there was anti war movement in the U.S.A.

Disadvantages Of Vertical Jump Test
Project Write Up
Unlike most studies and tests that measure and examine jumping ability and leg muscle power, the
vertical jump test is extremely inexpensive to conduct. Although the vertical jump test is simple,
easy, and quick to perform, there are numerous disadvantages to the test as well. In the vertical jump
test, an individual is asked to attempt to touch the wall at the highest point of their jump. When the
individual jumps, their technique and form play a large role in maximizing their jump height. The
jump height can be affected by not only how much the individual bends their knees before they
jump, but also by how effectively the individual uses their arms.
Furthermore, the individual must use timing when attempting to touch the wall at the highest point
of their jump. It is a common argument that technique may play a bigger role in the vertical jump
test than leg power. In addition, individuals typically use chalk on their fingertips to record their
jump height, but the use of chalk is not accurate and can lead to errors in the recorded
measurements. All these factors can lead to varying results, so essentially this test can be
considered unreliable if you are not cautious with how you do it. Another factor that may
contribute to varying results is the actual height of the person. For example, if you a participant
who is over 6 feet, they have a greater advantage than someone who is 5 feet because they are
obviously taller and their arms will be longer. They are

Smoking Cigarettes Should Be Legal
Most doctors smoke back then, right? So, you should smoke cigarettes too. If doctors do it, so

audience that smoking is okay because doctors are promoting that it is good for you, and it will
even enhance your life; however, this is not true. Back then, people thought that smokinga cigarette
was not harmful. But in actuality, over the years, it has been found that smoking is harmful to one s
self, and potentially lead to serious complications.

By using the specialist as a public figure, the ad builds up its credibility for the audience to trust
the company and the product they are offering to the public. It is easy to forget that the practice
of smoking tobacco has aroused passionate reactions, both positive and negative, for quite a
while. Some doctors claimed that if you smoke a cigarette, it can starve off hunger and
depression, cured rheumatic ailments, and is used for lung complaints (Woodhead, A Global
History of Smoking ). Doctors may not know it at first, but they know now. Smoking is bad for
you and could lead you to your death if a person does not stop smoking a cigarette.
Smoking has turned into a worldwide fixation following the time when the first Europeans
imported tobacco from the New World more than five hundred years back (Woodhead, A Global
History of Smoking ). Tobacco is one of the most crucial trade harvests in American farming. It is
native to the North and South American continents. At the time when European voyagers in the
15th and 16th centuries set sail to discover findings, they saw tobacco being used as a medicine
and as a hallucinogen by Native Americans, and that is how tobacco become known to the rest of
the world. (Young, The History of Tobacco and Its Growth throughout the World ).
The voyagers returned to Europe with the recently discovered plant and it was immediately used as

Murray Bowen Essay
Murray Bowen was a psychiatrist and is one of the founders of family therapy. He looked beyond
the nuclear family system as a source of conflict and extended the inquiry into family issues to
include the family of origin (extended family). Bowen used his exploration of his own family of
origin in his work, which he viewed as important because clients cannot grow and therapists are
inhibited from performing their job correctly if they ignore or deny their familyexperiences.
Using six concepts that are intertwined together, Bowen s theory describes how the family
structures our level of autonomy and dependency in relationships.
First, differentiation of self is the ability to think and reflect wisely even in the face of adversity.

The Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692
The Salem witchcraft trials of 1692, which resulted in 19 executions, and 150 accusations of
witchcraft, are one of the historical events almost everyone has heard of. They began when three
young girls, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams and Ann Putnam began to have hysterical fits, after
being discovered engaging in forbidden fortune telling (not dancing naked in the woods) to learn
what sorts of men they would marry. Betty s father, the Reverend Samuel Parris, called in more
senior authorities to determine if the girls affliction was caused by witchcraft. Although Betty was
sent away fairly soon, and did not participate in the trials, the other girls were joined by other young

Whereas in the past everyone in a locality had followed the same religion, people were now
exposed to Christianity and the local religions of people who had moved to their region, or
whose regions they had moved to. In the cities of central and southern Africa, many local
religions and Christian sects could be found, as well as Islam. Belief in witchcraft tended to unite
people across religious differences. Typically, the names brought to witch finders were those of
the same sort of local enemies we have become familiar with in reading about the Azande. As the
frenzy increased, people began to be accused who had not aroused any particular jealousies,
possibly because they possessed a peculiar bag or horn, which might be said to contain medicine in
one reported case, such a container did indeed contain medicine but ordinary physical medicine, not
magical substances. These crazes tended to die down, often after considerable conflict and property
damage, and the witch finders would then move on to the next town. As witchcraft accusations still
occur in the area, we can conclude that the movements did not get rid of witches forever, nor, unlike
the situation Salem or Europe, did belief in witchcraft itself actually end with the witch crazes.
The actual execution of witches was not usually a feature in African witchcraft, so there was
probably less to repent in the end, though there

Review Of The Trail Of Tears
The Trail of Tears was a challenge since it was both a dramatic change (by losing each tribe s
traditional land, plants, and animals, as well as their horses being confiscated or killed [to
prevent escape] and their cattle being seized in order to discourage the temptation of absconding
to live independently) and a traumatic exploit (many tribes lost over half of their population). I
picked this topic because I have always wondered what exactly happened during this trek, how far
they travelled (where they came from and where they ended up), and how they were treated. The
Indians, numbering about 16,000, were forced off their lands when Georgia citizens and the
president of the US ignored the decision from Worcester v. Georgia. Almost 4,000 Indians died on
the trail (including those victims who died in the stockades awaiting forced transportation), in order
to empty their tribal lands and make them available for new white settlers.... Show more content on

  • 2. Types And Categories Of Requirements 2)Describe the Types and Categories of Requirements. Discuss the Requirements Artifacts that are offered in the Unified Process. Requirements are categorized as functional and non functional. Functional (behavioral) requirements identifies/recognize the actions that are required to complete the user goals. For example, for a receptionist to create an appointment for the patient, he/she must take numbers of steps, such as logging into the system by providing appropriate ID/password, find patient in the system, select date/time/doctor for appointment, saves the appointment etc. One of the best ways of documenting functional requirements are use case. Functional requirements are what the user expects from the system/software. For example if the system is to schedule an appointment for patient, then that system should be able to create a new appointment, edit/modify the existing appointment, cancel/delete an existing appointment, etc. Basically, functional requirements defines what a system is meant to do and on the other hand, non functional requirements defines how a system is supposed to be. Non functional requirements are not related to the functionality of the product/system. It defines the qualities around the system (FURPS+ model) and not the specific behavior of a given system. In the Unified Process, requirements are categorized as FURPS+ model which means functional, usability, reliability, performance and supportability. + in FURPS+ are sub factors such as ... It has premium payments, the insurance company provides a cash payment, known as a death benefit, to beneficiaries upon the insured s death. After conducting the research, I determined that the two options of selecting the right and affordable life insurances are MassMutual and Principal Life Insurances. MassMutual offers Life Time Protection with Life Insurance, flexible payments, Universal Life Insurance and additional protection and investment options with Variable Universal Life Insurance. Whole Life Insurance is a permanent policy which gives you guaranteed protection for your loves ones that last a lifetime. You earned cash value, which you can use however you want. Participating whole life insurance is eligible to earn dividends, which can increase the death benefit and the cash value. • 4. Movie Smoke Signals Essay Movie Smoke Signals For most of my life, the word Native American had immediately made me think of feathers, powwows, and a society uncorrupted by civilization. However, in watching the movie Smoke Signals, a movie that depicts the modern Native American culture, I learned many other things. For one, I learned that many of the customs that modern Native Americans have are very similar to my own. I also saw that the family life of the Native Americans in the film had many of the same problems that my family had undergone in the past years. This film was unlike any that I have ever seen; therefore, it reached me on a very personal level. The movie Smoke Signals was set in 1998, with reoccurring flashbacks to the 1980 s on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Luckily, Thomas and Victor were okay; however, Arnold s problem with alcohol does not stop with this horrible mistake. For years he continued to drink and abuse his wife and son, Victor. When Arnold s wife could not take it anymore, Arnold left the family and moved far away, missing most of his son s life. My family has also had this problem. I have never been a victim of child abuse, but my father s abuse of alcohol has impacted me in many ways. When I was about seven, I was told that my dad was leaving because of his alcoholism. I did not understand at the time the significance of my parents getting a divorce, but having lived ten years without my father, I feel I can relate to Victor in many ways. My dad has missed so many important events in my life, such as making the cheerleading squad, my first prom, and even the day I got my license. After seeing this movie I realized that even if my dad could recover from alcoholism, it could never make up for all the years we lost together. Lives are ruined by this terrible addiction everyday; not only the alcoholic s life, but also the lives of those who love them. I thought this film was very unique because it shows the true Native American perspective of everyday life, not the usual phony stereotype of Indians such as teepees and bow and arrows. It also showed how much Native Americans are not much different than other cultures. Instead of singling other cultures out or judging people that are different from ... • 5. Psychological Theories Of Behavioral Finance Behavioural Finance Introduction Behavioural finance is a relatively new area of evolving research in finance. Behavioural finance seek to combine behavioural and cognitive psychological theory with conventional economics and finance to get a better understanding for why individual investors make irrational financial decisions. According to Sewell (2007), Behavioural finance is the study of the influence of psychology on the behaviour of financial practitioners and the subsequent effect on markets. The science focuses on the effects of individual investors making decisions based on hunches or emotions. Ritter (2003, p.429), describes behavioural finance is based on psychology which suggests that human decision processes are subject to several cognitive illusions. These illusions are divided into two groups as illusions caused by heuristic decision process and illusions rooted from the adoption of mental frames grouped in the prospect theory (Waweru et al., 2008, p.27) People may make predictable, non optimal choices when faced with difficult and uncertain decisions because of heuristic simplification. Behavioral biases, abstractly, are defined in the same way as systematic errors are, in judgment (Chen et al, 2007). Behavioral finance theories, which are based on the psychology, attempt to understand how the psychological variables (heuristics, prospect, and herding) and perceived risk behaviour (Risk Perception, Risk attitude and Risk Propensity) influence individual ... • 6. The Bloody Chamber Analysis The gothic genre is a style of writing that is characterized by components of horror, disquietude, death and romance. There are many conventions to the gothic genre which indulges details on gothic architecture, spirituality and lucid descriptions in the first person along with dialogues. It is widely accepted that both the novella, Carmilla and the short stories from The Bloody Chamber include these aspects of gothic literature. Patriarchal dominance is often defined as a system of male domination and in gothic fictionit is traditional for the male to in fact save the weak and fragile female out of danger; further dominating his role. Although Carmilla was written during the Victorian Era, one would aspect a male dominated patriarchal system to be followed, but Le Fanu doesn t succumb to the traditional but in fact subverts it by casting the villain as female who preys on young and vulnerable women ultimately for power. However, where Carmilla does indeed follow the traditional gothic horror narrative where the victims are always presented as succumbing to a temptation that inevitably, has metaphysical consequences; in Carmilla the victims die from an unknown malady. The Bloody Chamber reviews on how unimpeachable fairy tales encompass strong socio political undertones such as gender roles and presents the nameless heroine as woman whom is capable of changing her fate, whereby she doesn t die like the other wives. Similarly, in Carmilla it can also be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Two years ago I decided to come to America for my higher studies in Western Kentucky University. There are many things in life that can change the course of a person s life. It can either make a positive impact or a negative impact on a person s life. Arriving in a new country was exciting and discomforting. America is a wonderful place to live, which is full of adventure and challenges. I was attracted by the Western culture. Meanwhile, different languages also troubled me. Although I began to learn English in elementary school from ABC, my listening and oral abilities tend not to be adequate. I have to study hard to improve my English, so that I can understand what the people said. Since I came to America, I made great progress not only with foreign languages but also with my adaptive capabilities. From what I saw, read, and talked with my friends, I realized that I am improving more and more. In the past two years, I learned a lot more here. Such problems consist firstly of a very high employee rate turnover rate. This rate is actually 100% per year. Each year they hire an average of fifty sales people per year and the longest working sales rep has only two years of experience with the company. A second problem facing this organization is its complications with management skills. This mainly because the reduction in the turnover of employees will definitely increased profitability keeping it easier to obtain future sales. This issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With regards to continuous restructuring of the company. This issue is a big factor that even stimulates the first problem. With the re evaluation of the organizational structure the employees tend to lose confidence and trust in those in charge and therefore their performance is hindered because of this. Concerning the hiring skills of the company it is very inefficient such as recruiting college kids, newspaper advertisements, employment agencies and job notices on job search websites. These hiring skills are very costly and time consuming. The high expectations of management to meet high quotas is unreasonable and thus puts pressure on the salesmen causing them to perform unethical actions such as posting incorrect sales figures just to please their managers. Options that can assist the firm in these issues are by management evaluating the company and making a consistent and permanent organizational structure. To make the hiring process more efficient it needs to be shorter in length, be specific in the characteristics of the potential employee to avoid the many steps and narrow the amount of hiring methods to reduce costs. Not stretching quotas is another factor that needs to be considered by management. This can be done through lowering their expectations of sales in the same time frame that currently exists making them realistic, give incentives if they need to be stretched, employ feedback from sales persons so as to assign comfortable quotas around each ... There are many definitions of law, but nor one can be generally accepted, because with so many types of the law, these definitions cannot cover every aspect of the law properly. Therefore, the law can be simply described as the principles, rules and regulations, created by the state (the parliament) and established within a community. From the history, in the time of Henry II, the law was based only on the customs that were then applied by all other judges all around the country, known as common law. Common law principles created the basis for today s law and helps distinguish between the law created by previous decisions and the law created by legislation. For instance, murder is a common law because it is not defined by the Act of Parliament, unlike theft what is defined by Theft Act 1968. Martin(2010) Since the Human Right Act 1998 section 2(1)(a) English law is determined by the European Union and the judge must take into account human right cases of the European Court of Justice as well as the English law cases. However, it is very different from the other countries law. In contrast, while deciding a case in the UK, judge is bound to apply a judicial precedent of a higher court, based on the previous cases judgements and principles known as ratio decidendi (the reason for deciding), rather than being only guided by previous cases like other European Union countries. In this piece Emerson explains his belief in the innate divinity of man and defines our quot;Self Reliance quot; as the broad identity in which we personally participate. Emerson challenges his readers to not conform to traditional practices in a variety of realms. However, he punctuates just four aspects of these challenges to tradition and they are: religion, education, art, and society. I found these passages to be the best representativesof Emerson s ideology due to their poignancy and numbered paragraphs. In the second numerated passage Emerson challenges the realm of Classical Education and the way wealthy New Englanders regard such old world education as being the best. For years Americans had been sending their prestigious young men overseas to be immersed in the classic culture and regionalism Europe offers. This is objected to by Emerson for the reason that everything you need is inside you. History is your history; culture is your culture; art is your art; beauty is your beauty, etc. He says, quot; The soul is no traveller; the wise man stays at home, and when his necessities, his duties, on any occasion call him from his house, or into foreign lands, he is at home. . . quot; (Robinson 104). He is emphasizing the idea that all which makes up a man, all which defines him, is in his immediate and homebound presence and therefore resides within him wherever he goes. He believes in the benefit of travel quot;for the purposes of art, of study, and benevolence. . . quot; (Robinson 104), but as for one who is traveling to acquire or attain that which he does not have, Emerson says we travel away from ourselves and in our search we carry only quot;ruins to ruins quot; (Robinson 104). The end of this passage was especially interesting to me. He talks of his travel from home envisioning beauty and losing his sadness. However, when he physically arrives ... Q1: Do the traditional accounting practices that the Topeka plant adopted in 1979 to support its mass production process have value in a lean environment? Explain the specific reasons that support your answer. In general, we do not think that traditional accounting practices that Topeka plant adopted in 1979 to support its mass production would fit into the lean accounting environment. The differences between the two accounting methods make the traditional accounting hard to work for the lean environment. Lean Accounting contains a number of methods for valuing inventory that are simple, accurate and often visual. Visual controls are used to trigger upstream links in the value stream to initiate additional productions. Automatically signals replenish the parts of upstream links without the need to prepare paperwork such as a material requisition. * Assign the days of inventory (DOI) metric to staff members responsible for buying materials for each value stream. Buyer should focus on improving the pull and flow of inventory and on reducing inventory levels. A reduction in days of inventory is much easier to see rather than a one tenth of a point improvement in a site inventor turn under traditional measurement systems. Using DOI metric at the value stream level, buyers begin to see how their actions on reducing inventory result in actual improvement of inventory level. * Establish a task time. The potato extract is the enzyme of the investigation being used which is catecholase (Picture 4). The substrate in the investigation is catechol (Picture 6), and the reddish brown product is called benzoquinone (Figure 2). Enzymes are proteins that help the speeding up of chemical reactions. Enzymes will never destroy unless pH, salt, and temperature negatively affect it. When the enzyme is finished with one substrate, it moves on to another one directly after. According to the lab manual by Pearson (2011), substrates are the reactant molecules that are being changed by the enzyme. It is known that when the substance is an enzyme, it ends in letters ase. Substrates and enzymes have a lock and key relationship with one another. The key in the relationship is the substrate, and the lock in the relationship is the enzyme (Cap, 2016). An example of an enzyme and substrate relationship is sucrase and sucrose. The enzyme sucrase positions the sucrose, which is table salt, in a way that it can be broken down into the parts of glucose and fructose (Figure 1). The purpose of this ... • 14. Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay In William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, the concept of love is explored as a foolish and quite silly thing, with exaggeration and imagery used to display the ridiculousness of the whole thing. It makes good use of reversed Shakespearean love quadrangles, interchangeable love interests, faerie magic, and metaphors for the blindness of loveto weave a wonderful satire of the silliest of mortal concepts. We start by observing the dynamic between Lysander, Demetrius, Hermia, and Helena. At the start of the play, both Lysander and Demetrius are in love with Hermia. Hermia is in love with Lysander, and Helena, oft forgotten, is in love with Demetrius. After some faerie trickery and love magic, however, both men are suddenly in love with ... Their names are quite similar, and there is little to distinguish one from the other in character as well. In the beginning, and in the end, the love quadrangle is nearly identical, differing only by three letters. Thus, the entire affair is absurd and pointless and therein lies the comedy. Next, let us talk about the affair between Bottom and Titania. Titania is the Queen of the Faeries, a most important figure, and the partner of the Faerie King Oberon. Oberon is jealous of a particular Indian boy of Titania s, but she won t just give him up. So he sends Puck out to drug Titania with love potion, so when she awakes she ll fall in love with the first thing she sees, no matter how horrid. Then, Puck goes a wandering, and finds an enterprising young thespian, with the unfortunate name of Bottom, and wryly decides to give him the head of a donkey. The pun is not lost on many readers. The New Testament Gospel By Matthew, Mark, Luke And John Form The four New Testament gospel books, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John form a conclusive and powerful portrait of Jesus Christ as the sent son of God. The four books are not in any way explaining the biography of Christ s complete life, but rather trying to give the fundamental truth of Christianity, the great truths of the gospeland who Jesusreally is. Each of the named gospel writers gives a clear and personal perspective of Christ as guided by the Holy Ghost and the themes that correspond to Jesus. With the exception of the gospel written by John, the other three give some considerable presentation of well known and familiar accounts and teachings only to be underscored by the distinct teachings and accounts that support their complete thoughts. These thoughts by the three writers are brought to a conclusion by John the Apostle, who interprets the life of Jesus by emphasizing his personhood. Though many writers describe Jesus differently, we will always come to the conclusion that he is God in flesh. In Matthew Jesus is portrayed as the Jewish light this is where Jesus was emphasizes the importance of the Jewish law to his people. Also, Jesus is the authoritative teacher and the king of the Jews. Also, Matthew clearly points to Jesus divinity since only God can change the laws that he had given to the people. • 17. Oedipus Character Analysis In the tragedy, Oedipus the king, by Sophocles, the main character Oedipus rules a city called Thebes. Oedipus, being a tragic hero, was always destined for disaster, but one of the major key parts that contributed to his downfall was his uncontrollable temper. As a child, he was destined, by Apollo, to marry his mother and murder his father. So he ran away from his hometown Corinth in attempt to avoid his destiny, but he unfortunately could not avoid it. He has always been a very angry and irritable person, but the most important parts of his life that determined his success or failure was always interrupted by his temper. Oedipuss temper can interrupt Oedipus s life at very important times. The first example of his anger is when he kills the driver, which ended up being his father. As he explains his story he says, In anger I struck the driver as he tried to crowd me off. (pg 45) This example shows how Oedipus s temper can get out of control and can actually lead to the death of someone. This is significant because this is the part of the play when Oedipus kills King Laius, his father, literally fulfilling the prophecy, which stated that Oedipus was going to murder his father, and marry his mother. He completed one half of the prophecy because he couldn t control his anger. This is important because this shows how Oedipus s temper can overcome his actions and cause him to go out of control. • 18. The Absurd, By Camus The philosophy of the Absurd is Camus answer to the question of life and whether it is worth living. In the opening line of The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus states that there is One truly serious philosophical problem, and that is suicide. Judging whether life is or is not worth living amounts to answering the fundamental question of philosophy. (495) Absurdismbegins by questioning the purpose of life and the response, or lack of response from the indifferent silence of the universe. It reveals the void one might encounter in the search for the meaning of life. (Seniuk 162) Absurdism is the belief that human life is meaningless, and that it is up to the individual to decide how they will react to this idea; to find their own meaning or lack of. Camus suggests that Suicide offers the most basic way out of absurdity. If life has no meaning, then the only choice would be suicide. Death would then negate any and all human aspiration and achievements an individual would have. (Baltzer Jaray 12) Though in order not to exaggerate this, Camus states that In a man s attachment to life there is something stronger than all the ills in the world. (499) And that We get into the habit of living before acquiring the habit of thinking. (499) Subsequently Camus gives us another option to against suicide, recovery. When an individual decides that life is worth living one chooses to live in the face of the Absurd as absurd and positively move forward with acceptance. (Francev 32) ... When the British decided to join the colonies Trinidad and Tobago, Trinidad s sugar economy started to collapse. With the collapse of the economy and commodity prices rising, workers started to riot in Trinidad. Together these made the people and the colony of Trinidad difficult to work and live. While researching these topics, I used history articles and nonfiction books. Having the right and the best information will make for a better paper. Imperialism is a type of government that seeks to increase its size, either by forcing (through war) or influencing (through politics) other countries to submit to their rule. While researching about imperialism, I found that many articles explained how imperialism affected this colony in a way that I understand it. Slavery in Trinidad is the first reason to why imperialism in Trinidad was negative. For example, Between 1518 and 1870, the transatlantic slave trade supplied the greatest proportion of the Caribbean population (Countrystudies.us). This explains that Trinidad s slave trade was so bad, that the development of their colony was ten times harder. The slavery that the British began in Trinidad, became a major cause for how bad Trinidad s development would be. Another example of how slavery affected Trinidad, Even after the end of slavery and apprenticeship the Caribbean was not totally free. Former enslaved people received no compensation and had limited representation in the legislature s (Nationalarchives.gov.uk). Even though the slaves did not have to work anymore, their lives in Trinidad still were not the best that they could have been. For some, the Americas were a world of untold riches, while for others, this discovery allowed for missionary efforts to convert Native Americans to their faith. Regardless of the reason, violence against the many Native Americans who inhabited this new land was a common colonization tool to achieve these means. Direct violence is the most well known approach, one that Spain wielded so effectively that the Black Legend was created to attest to their cruelty. Yet, the violence used was not all direct in nature. Cultural violence, which England employed itself, was used just as often. Overall, though the Black Legend has led to Spain being viewed as the most violent colonizer in the Americas, England s use of indirect violence through engagement in the fur tradeand missionary efforts was just as destructive to Native Americans. As mentioned above, the concept of violence used in colonization, especially that of the Americas, is usually thought of in only one form. The word conjures images of conquistadores storming villages, officials forcing Natives into slavery, and the brutal killings of those who did not adhere to European rule and religious ideals. Comparing Hume And Leibniz s Pre-Established Harmony God is not important in the philosophy of Hume and Nietzsche given that their works refer to the tenets of naturalism rather than focusing on whether actions are right or wrong. In fact, Nietzsche believed that God is dead. As such, he does not ascribe to the views from Kant that God s commandments are ingrained in the rationality of human beings. According to Nietzsche, there is no such thing as moral facts. Accordingly, Hume was a naturalist whose work was not base on deontological maxims. Both Hume and Nietzsche believed that no human belief is based on rational justification. In this regard, the two philosophers argued that humans could not believe in morality given that none of their beliefs has a rational basis. Leibniz s Pre established Harmony refers to a philosophical theory relating to causation whereby every substance affects only itself, but every substance interacts casually with each other because God has programmed them to complement each other. Farmers today are still paid through subsidies whether they produce a good crop or not, so to many, it seems very backward to pay farmers not to produce crops. Argumentative Essay On Co-Rumination Co rumination is a moderately new development, alluding to widely examining and returning to issues, guessing about issues, and concentrating on negative emotions with associates. Despite the fact that it is like self exposure in that it includes uncovering and examining an issue, it is more centered on the issues themselves and in this manner can be maladaptive. While selfexposure is seen as a positive angle found in close kinships, a few sorts of self revelation can likewise be maladaptive. Co rumination is a sort of conduct that is emphatically associated with both rumination and self exposure and has been connected to a background marked by uneasiness in light of the fact that co ruminating may compound stresses over whether issues will be determined, about negative results of issues, and depressive findings because of the steady negative spotlight on upsetting themes, rather than critical thinking. In any case, co rumination is likewise firmly connected with superb kinships and closeness. (Wikipedia, 2014)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the origin of the coffee is not clear but for sure coffee is wide spread around the world and is loved by billions of coffee drinker. The difference in coffee varieties, geographical location, climates and agriculture practices across the world has brought different sensory qualities to the coffee. This is because the flavour of coffee begins early in the plantation stage where flavour precursor forms as the coffee berries develop and ripe. Multitasking Essay Multitasking: the Uncertain Impact of Technology on Knowledge Workers and Managers Frank Bannister and Dan Remenyi Trinity College, Dublin Frank.Bannister@tcd.ie Dan.Remenyi@tcd.ie Abstract: While the productivity paradox has now been officially pronounced dead, the argument and the evidence for this assertion are both at a macroeconomic level. What has been less closely examined is the microeconomic impact of recent developments in ICT on the productivity of office and knowledge workers. Multitasking in the workplace long predates ICT, but ICT, if not a prerequisite for multitasking, is a significant enabler and amplifier of multitasking. From an ICT evaluation perspective, it is therefore pertinent to ask: Whether such modes of working (learning is a separate question) are better in some (or any) sense than monotasking? and When and if is multitasking a beneficial development in the workplace? There is, as will be seen below, a body of research addressing the first of these questions, but little research which looks at the second. • 37. Gender Stereotypes In Trifles By Susan Glaspell In earlier cultures, women s job was to bear children, cook, clean, and to be submissive to their husband. A man s job was to work, take care of the farm, and was to be the dominant individual in the marriage. With both the husband and wife doing their daily duties, the household would go smoothly. However, certain men in the 19th centurybegan to degrade women. Making women feel worthless and unimportant. Wives, daughters and sisters were left at home all day to oversee the domestic duties that were increasingly carried out by servants (The British Library). In the play Trifles, the play writer wants the audience to believe that stereotypes is inappropriate because it is wrong to assume something about an individual based solely on their gender. Throughout this play, written by Susan Glaspell, there are several instances where both genders were not portrayed as equal. In the play, Hale stated Well, women are used to worrying over trifles (Glaspell, 25). The word trifles means something unimportant or of little value (Webster s II New College Dictionary). Here, Hale is basically saying that women worry over the small things in life, instead of focusing on what really matters. Later on in the play, the women focusing over trifles is of great benefit to the women, and it allows the women to have an upper hand over the men. Traditionally a middle class girl in Western culture tended to learn from her mother s example that cooking, cleaning, and caring for children was the behavior expected of her when she grew up (WIC Women s History in America). This statement links to the play in many different ways. It is evident that the women had the job of making sure the house looked presentable to any family and/or guests that entered the home. In the play, the County Attorney says Dirty towels! Not much of a housekeeper, would you say, ladies? (Glaspell, 25). In this line, it is evident that the County Attorney expected that Mrs. Wright should have always had clean towels under the sink instead of dirty ones. It is then that Mrs. Hale chimed in to say Those towels het dirty awful quick. Men s hands aren t always as clean as they might be (Glaspell, 25). Here, Mrs. Hale is trying to take ... • 41. Analysis Of Epiphenomenal Qualia By Frank Jackson In the paper Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson presents the concept of Qualia and the knowledge argument in order to prove physicalism false. Jackson s knowledge argument introduces a thought experiment about a neuroscientist called Mary. His thought experiment is designed to refute physicalismby showing that there is non physical knowledge in the world. However, there are many flaws in Jackson s thought experiment that lead to its ultimate failure in proving that physicalism is wrong, such as its appeal to a misleading intuition, the ambiguity of its premises, and the assumption that it is possible to gain all physical knowledge of colorfrom a colorless room. Jackson explains that the goal of his paper is to refute physicalism by using an argument rather than relying merely on intuitions. He makes a declaration that he is what people call a qualiafreak. He describes qualia as the raw feel or quality of experiences that we have. There is something that the hurtfulness of pains, the itchiness of itches, pangs of jealousy... tasting a lemon, smelling a rose, hearing a loud noise or seeing the sky feels like (127). There s a natural feeling or a sensation that all these conscious experiences bring for the person experiencing them. In order to substantiate this hypothesis, the authors used a three by two between subjects method, with one hundred and seventy one participants. In the study, the independent variable was icons, either from American, Chinese, or neutral backgrounds. Furthermore, the measures of cultural priming were measured by exposing participants to seven slides of Chinese cultural icons, such as a Chinese dragon, American cultural icons, such as the American flag, or neutral primes, such as geometry. The participants were assigned randomly to the prime conditions and the procedure for each primes required participants to answered questions related to the prime they were assigned to, such as naming the objects or describing the ideas represented. According to the authors, research has shown that these procedures elicit the cultural knowledge systems among individuals that were needed in this study. • 45. Coevolution And Evolutionary Responses At First Thought Coevolution and Evolutionary Responses At first thought, it might seem as if everything is involved in coevolution. This assumption might be drawn due to the fact that basically every organism interacts with another organism and possibly influences their evolution in some way. However, this assumption depends entirely on one s definition of coevolution. There are many other forms of evolutionary responses other than coevolution including: evolutionary relationships between antagonists, evolutionary equilibrium, genetic variation in competitive ability, and character displacement, all which will be discussed later on. In fact, all of these evolutionary responses revolve around the idea that interacting populations tend to evolve in response to features which affect evolutionary strength. First, species evolve in ways that improve, or at least maintain, their ability to live. Communities, however, do not undergo the same process. No community evolves as a unit. Species may evolve in ways that are mostly influenced by ecology. This means that species evolve by their relationship with one or a few species, which in turn allows the others to evolve as well. Coevolution is commonly described as a change in the genetic composition of one species, or group, in response to a genetic change in another and was coined by Ehrlich and Raven after observing plant herbivore interactions. • 48. Disadvantages Of Vertical Jump Test Project Write Up Unlike most studies and tests that measure and examine jumping ability and leg muscle power, the vertical jump test is extremely inexpensive to conduct. Although the vertical jump test is simple, easy, and quick to perform, there are numerous disadvantages to the test as well. In the vertical jump test, an individual is asked to attempt to touch the wall at the highest point of their jump. When the individual jumps, their technique and form play a large role in maximizing their jump height. The jump height can be affected by not only how much the individual bends their knees before they jump, but also by how effectively the individual uses their arms. Furthermore, the individual must use timing when attempting to touch the wall at the highest point of their jump. It is a common argument that technique may play a bigger role in the vertical jump test than leg power. In addition, individuals typically use chalk on their fingertips to record their jump height, but the use of chalk is not accurate and can lead to errors in the recorded measurements. All these factors can lead to varying results, so essentially this test can be considered unreliable if you are not cautious with how you do it. Another factor that may contribute to varying results is the actual height of the person. For example, if you a participant who is over 6 feet, they have a greater advantage than someone who is 5 feet because they are obviously taller and their arms will be longer. They are ...
