Definition Of Wisdom In Fahrenheit 451
There are many definitions of wisdom but one of the best understanding I have received is that
wisdom is knowledge gained through suffering. Elaine Heath
This quote from Elaine Heath and Larry Duggins book Missional.Monastic.Mainline. mentioned what
I thought of as the quintessential definition of wisdom. Through effort and sacrifice, one can attain
pearls of wisdom such as freedom can t be bought cheap, it s better to die with knowledge than to live
in ignorance, and ignorance is bliss only for those whose minds are vacant of the veracity of facts.
Freedom is the foundation of western democracies and the fundamental argument that people have the
unalienable right to live as they choose and it is undeniable that freedom can t be bought cheap. This
is true since freedom is the reason for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, etc.In
Fahrenheit 451, the value of freedom is illustrated in Montag s conversation with Mildred after he
witnessed the immolation of the old lady where he verbalizes his frustration by saying There must be
something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be
something there. (Bradbury 48) In this quote, we can see that the lady choose to stay with her books, a
symbol of freedom and knowledge, which emphasized the idea that freedom is worth giving one s life
to protect. During the Civil War Civil War and Jim Crow era (1865 1965) African Americans had to
fight for their, long

Biomedical Approach
Most modern Western societies rely on technology and evidence based medical treatments to diagnose
and treat illness or disease. This biomedical approach is founded predominately by the belief that
medical intervention, will return the health of a patient to a pre illness state (Khatcheressian Brown,
2009). However, an ample body of evidence is accumulating to suggest that consideration must also
be given to the impact of psychological and social influences on health. Indeed, as Adler and Page
(2008) outline, some of these influences can impede an individual s ability to manage and respond to
illness. Failure to identify and address the problems, could cause additional suffering, ultimately
compromising the effectiveness of care and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Robby Novac s Kid President Speech
Robby Novac, also known as Kid President , is a young boy with great ambitions. In the beginning of
the 2013 2014 school year he made Kid President s Pep Talk to Teachers and Students! , He talks
about many subjects including the 4 core classes, not to bully, and the importance of changing the
world. Novak created this video to encourage students as well as teachers to do their best for we are
all able to change the world in some way. The young Kid President may not seem very credible, but
that is far from the truth. Novak shows credibility through his outfit, his setting, and his mistakes.
Novak is seen in this video wearing a suit like ones worn by people of importance. Also he films the
video in a school and often changes the scene to different parts of the school like the bus, classroom,
library, and hallway. He also uses his own slip ups to his advantage, such as when he broke character
to talk to a passing teacher. His suit makes his character more real for it makes him look more like the
president. HIis setting puts us in the environment his purpose ... Show more content on

His own childish cuteness is one example, but also his choice in music and text. When Novac smiles
in his videos and laughs at his own jokes we can t help but smiling with him and being even happier

happy tone and lightens the mood even more and will help us connect the purpose of teaching and
learning even after we leave the computer for viewers may connect the song to this video. The cute

things like the alphabet and counting to ten, and even furthers his point of learning from everyone and

Some steps we use in the remediation process are network port and vulnerability scanners.

Non Sprayed Lab
Comparison Of Non Sprayed, and Sprayed Surfaces: I saw some major differences when comparing
the agar plates of the Non Sprayed surfaces, and the Sprayed surfaces. The images that caught my eye
in terms of major differences were the Non Sprayed, and Sprayed versions of the Bath. The major
difference between the two being the number of yellow dots on each agar plate. By looking at the Non
Sprayed agar plate of the bath I saw that there was a large amount of this specific bacteria, but when I
looked at the sprayed version, it was apparent that almost all of it had disappeared, except for one dot.
This then prompted me to look at the rest of the agar plates and compare the amount of yellow dots
form sprayed to unsprayed. It was by observing these specific types of bacteria that I saw where the

Validity and Reliability Of The Experiment: My experiment is quite reliable as I received roughly the
same results with only very minor differences in bacteria type over all three tests. Based on the
consistency of my results I would say that the experiment was reliable. The validity of my experiment
is invalid as looking back on how I performed the experiment, I would say that I made one mistakes
that I believe would have affected the overall result. This mistake is not waiting long enough for the
water to dry on the sprayed agar plates. By not waiting long enough, the water would still carry
bacteria. Meaning that even though it wouldn t be there when the water dried, it was still there when I
ran the swab over the top of it. Based on this I would say say that my results are invalid. Overall, I
would say that my results are reliable but not valid. Conclusion: In conclusion I believe that the Mr

After giving goodbye to the companions she meet on her journey, she returns home to her friends and
family.
DISCUSSION OF PLOT
In the film The Wizard of Oz, the main character, Dorothy, comes to a realization that there is no place
like home. Dorothy yearns to go out to see the world when she first runs away, she wants something
better than she already has. After her journey in the land Oz fighting off of a Witch who is attacking
her at every chance she can, she then truly realizes how blessed and wonderful her life back in Kansas
really is. A good example of this in real life are lottery winners. There s a bunch of cases where lottery
winners wished that they never won because of the people who try to take advantage of them or how it
ruins family relationships.
This realization is important to the plot because it completes her heroine s journey throughout her
journey. Dorothy first takes on a masculine role by running away from home in attempt to save her
dog Toto, which separates her away from her Aunt. Then she is sent by a tornado to Oz, where on her
way she meets her allies, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Lion. While on the Yellow Brick Road she
faces multiple trails against trees, and the Wicked Witch of the West. Then she experiences success by
finally making it to Emerald City and meeting the Wizard. Dorothy is excited to finally be brought
home, however she isn t able to because Wizard has a request for her to fulfill first. After that

b.) Explain what the results of such a move are for the graham cracker market. In other words, will
there be a SHORTAGE, a SURPLUS, or neither created? Why?
a.)
b.) There will be a shortage created. Initially the public might be happy about the price ceiling, but
soon after the sellers will begin to ration the graham crackers based on other factors since the one
most willing to pay will no longer be a factor. Also, this might cause consumers to stand in long lines
in order to be able to purchase the graham crackers, but since there are not enough graham crackers
supplied, not everyone will be able to purchase the graham crackers. In the end, producers will move
on to produce other products that are more profitable than graham crackers, worsening the shortage.
3. Pollution is considered by most a negative externality. Some economists would like to see the costs
of these burdens incorporated into the price of goods that we buy. For instance, since coal fire power

production were taken into account. You do not need to provide actual numbers; rather, show on the

Censorship In China
The Internet has quickly become a worldwide resource for news, current affairs and freedom of
speech, but in many places across the world, censorship restricts this freedom and access. Different
governments all have different approaches regarding censorship, and these methods have both a
positive and a negative impact on society. Censorship can also be used to protect people, as it can
prevent people from seeing explicit content or being exposed to certain types of media at a young age.
Censorship is used by governments around the world to restrict the content is available to their

As of June 1st 2013, Singapore updated their internet censorship laws to include new, stricter
regulations regarding the online news world (C, 2013). Online censorship is not a new idea in
Singapore. It was first discussed by the government in 1991, and has been an ongoing debate ever
since (Ang and Nadarajan, 1996). The thought behind censorship in Singapore stem from the idea that
media can have negative effects on their consumers, it is therefore wiser to err on the side of caution
through censorship (Ang and Nadarajan, 1996). Official regulations began in July 1996 (Efa.org.au,
2002), and there has been many revisions since then. In 2002, the Singapore Broadcasting Authority
stated that Users in Singapore...have access to all material available on the Internet, with the exception
of a few high impact illegal websites (Efa.org.au, 2002), but as of 2015, blocked websites are those
that contain content that the community regards as offensive or harmful to Singapore s racial and
religious harmony, or against national interest including sites that promote or contain pornography,
remote gambling and illegal activity (Mda.gov.sg, 2015). For the most part, this censorship is helpful
to society, as it ensures that internet users will have a positive online

Dylan Thomas
The Poet
Alcoholic, neurotic, and adulterous: one would never expect these traits to be present in one of the
most influential Welsh poet in literary history. Born in October 27, 1914 in Swansea, Wales, Dylan s
father was a local English professor and his mother a seamstress. David Thomas would read
Shakespeare to Dylan in his early youth, consequently, sparking Dylan s interest in poems and other
rhythmic ballads of W.B. Yeats and Edgar Allan Poe. Being enraptured by literature, Dylan neglected
his studies later dropping out to become a reporter at the South Wales Daily Post. Only 18 months
later, Dylan left to work on his poetry full time and writing some of his most revered works such as

He got into a marriage filled with affairs and scandals. He got treatment for serious mental and
physical issues due to alcoholism yet he drank himself to sleep every night. His actions seems to have
directly imprinted onto his poetic works. They go mad they shall be sane and Split all ends up they
shan t crack . The blending of the unreal with reality emphasises the two sided nature of death. How
can a man go mad, but still keep his sanity? How can a split object not crack? Death is not really the
cease of existence of a person, but really just the physical decomposition of the body itself. In Dylan
Thomas case, his body has already been slowly Twisting on racks when sinews give way, Strapped to
a wheel, yet they shall not break . This is similar to the theme in Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good
Night . Thomas asserts that he will not face death with open arms and will go down fighting to his last
breath. The spirit is like a memory that lives on in those one has influenced. The spirit of Dylan
Thomas would only crack when people have completely abandoned him, however, the split ends are
kept together in history forever. Lovers be lost love shall not . The subtle difference in usage of love
creates a vastly different interpretation of this paradox. Although physical lovers would be separated,
the emotional bond would last. The direct contradiction serves as an extended metaphor of death s
inability to cease all memory

phase is very important to any company because many different planning functions and each planning

functions of management while looking at the Boeing Company. While looking at the different

With the company being in the public eye at all times the planners must determine where, when, and
how the product will be used before they begin building, testing, and using the new technologies.
Since Boeing has become such a large company it has had to continuously evaluating the way it does
things to make sure that they are doing the right thing. Boeing also has a legal responsibility to the
military, government, and commercial markets to provide the newest technology available and get the
approval from the United States government before they produce any military technologies for the
foreign government/powers. When Boeing deals with the military they are required and mandated to
keep some equipment specifications classified so that they do not fall into the wrong hands. If this
security is breached Boeing would be held responsible and this could be detrimental to our homeland
security and military. Boeing also has a social responsibility to provide jobs to their employees and
community. Boeing rightly insists that they cannot be expected to provide jobs for the life in a fast
changing, global market. But what they can and should offer employees, is a tool kit of portable skills,
a high level of training that allows displaced workers to land new jobs (McMurdy, 1996 par.8). In
some ways Boeing believes by providing the jobs to the community it places them in an advantage

(USC, 2009) Data types 2.1 If there is data that is in numerical form this is called quantitative data if
not then it is if referred to as qualitative data if there is no numerical value or data. For example
qualitative data can be anything other than words for example it could be a recorded video or
photographs these types can be identified as qualitative data Measuring Data 2.2 Measuring and
analysing data involves gathering quantitative data about various products and the processes and
analysing that data to influence your actions and plans this can allow you to gain a understanding of
the process, products, resources and environments and evaluate so that you know the status with
respect to your current plans and being able to predict the relationships among the processes and the
produces you observe using these attributes to predict other values and products and processes you can
improve these milestones by knowing the root causes of these problems and identifying where you can
make improvements. Graphical Data 2.3 Many researches can and do use histograms and bar charts

Compare and Contrast The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe and A

We have looked at two different short stories by two different authors. The first story is called The Tell
Tale Heart by Edgar
Allan Poe and the second is called A Confession found in a prison in the time of Charles II by Charles
Dickens. I have found out that that they both have a murder theme in common. There are also other
similar themes between the two poems such as early confessions.

The boy could also be a problem in the future. We know quite quickly that all is not well for both
narrators because they both hint of the outcome, and confess early. In A confession found in a prison
in the time of Charles II the narrator says I will set down the naked truth without disguise showing that
he will reveal the whole story. He also says My name is written in the black book of death, which
shows that he is line for execution for something that he has done wrong. The same sort of theme
applies for The Tell Tale
Heart when the narrator quotes How calmly I can tell you the whole story. This shows that something
is going to be confessed in the near future. Both authors use short sentences at the beginnings of their
stories.
They use this writing technique to build tension. This is shown better in the The Tell Tale Heart, line
15 where he starts of the paragraph with three sentences in the first line. Now this is the point. You
fancy me mad. Madmen know nothing.
In The Tell Tale Heart, the only relationship is between the old man and the narrator. They seemed to
be good friends at the beginning of the story, as the narrator claims to Love the old man. He had never
wronged me shows that the old man had never done anything to offend the narrator or to turn the
narrator against him. This shows that the

What Is The Role Of Slavery In African-American Culture
Slavery had also been present in New York from the earliest days of Dutch settlement. As their role
expanded so did slavery in the city, 30 percent of its laborers were slaves. Most came from different

who would never otherwise have encountered, their bond was not kinship, language, or even race, but
the impressment of slavery. They eventually came together an created a cohesive culture and
community that took many years, and it processed at different rates of speed in different regions. The
turning point of slavery by the 19th century, slaves no longer identified themselves as Ibo, Ashanti,
Yoruba, and so on, but as African American. In music, art, folklore, language, and religion, their
cultural expressions emerged as a synthesis of African traditions, European elements, and new

By Definition Miracles Do Not Occur Essay
By Definition Miracles Do Not Occur
Even in this modern age, belief in the miraculous is widespread and is a feature of many world
religions, including the Christian faith where miracles have played a significant role.
It is important attempt to define what a miracle is, as this in itself is a source for debate. Today the
term miracle in many different ways and the idea is open to many interpretations.
A miracle can be defined in a number of ways, firstly as an unexpected change for the better. This
centres miracles in people s treatment of each other, not necessarily demanding the idea of a creator

It is with this definition of miracles that the majority of arguments occur, with some claiming them to
be obvious signs of God s reality and active presence within the world, with some such miracles being
incorporated in arguments for religious experience. We see examples of such RSSE in the gospels. For
many Christian s miracles, demonstrate God s care for his creation and show God s willingness to
intervene to change things for the better. Such examples of RSSE are not confined to the times of
Jesus, but have occurred in the fairly recent past especially in the Catholic Church (who undertake a
strict procedure in ascertaining the validity of miracles) e.g. Lourdes, The miraculous recovery of John
Fagen, which lead to the sainthood of John Ogillve etc.
Scholars such as Hume, and scientists such as Dawkins, believe that miracles have natural
explanations and are only seen as miraculous due to ignorance (as science advances forward so faith
retreats). They believe that there are no real miracles but events that can be better explained in
scientific terms (the plagues, walking on water etc) or are simply fabricated.
The German scholar Rudolf Bultmann took a similarly sceptical view of miracles and argued that the
world view of the Bible was unacceptable in a modern, scientific age. Bultmann reasoned that the

Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky Essay
Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky is the author of six symphonies and the finest and
most popular operas in the Russian repertory. Tchaikovsky was also one of the founders of the school
of Russian music. He was a brilliant composer with a creative imagination that helped his career

The young Peter would enter a ministry of Justice as a clerk in 1859 (Mason 1). Tchaikovsky stayed
there four years despite the long journey to Western Europe and increasing involvement in music. In
1863 he entered the conservatory where he took private teachings and focused all his energy to his
music and compositions. Three years later in 1866 he and his family had moved to Moscow with a
professorship of harmony at a new conservatory. Even by this time very little of his music had pleased
the conservative musical establishment or the more nationalist group. It was not until 1868 when his
1st Symphony had a good public reception when heard in Moscow. Not even a year later Tchaikovsky
wrote his first opera the Voyevada. He later used this piece in his next opera the Oprichnik, which won
some success at St. Petersburg in 1874. It was then that a critic named Balakirev requested that he
write a work on Romeo and Juliet, which would later be known as the Fantasy Overture. This specific

Blue Ridge Coffee Case Study
Task 2 Memorandum TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Sales Strategy for the Flavored Coffee
Following the introduction of the new flavored coffee, there is need for coming up with a sales
strategy for increasing the sales of the new product. The strategy gives details on how the product will
reach the customers, and in the end, making them aware of the difference between the new product
line with the other products from the company. These strategies are necessary for improving the total
company sales, consequently increasing the profitability of the company. The strategy is also
necessary for the coming up with sales activities that position the flavored coffee to a state where it
can gain a competitive advantage in the market. The most appropriate sales strategy of choice for
meeting the sales objective of the company is the triple tiered sales strategy (Frain, 2009). Justification
of the recommendation The strategy is necessary for the establishment of a good relationship between
the wholesale clientele and the company. The association that the regional sales teams have with the
wholesale customers is vital for giving the company the necessary information regarding the
performance of the product. The triple tiered strategy is necessary for the identification of the
challenges that the competitors are going through, and building on their weakness to increase the sales
volume. An element of a weak competition in consideration involves brand recognition. Carolina

Anomie Theory
Anomie theory is important for explaining whether crime is a normal or abnormal (pathological)
social phenomenon (Cartwright, 2011). It describes a lack of social norms, lawlessness and
normlessness (Cartwright, 2013). In detail, it is a breakdown of social bonds between an individual
and the community. This theory was first coined by Emile Durkheim, a French sociologist in his book
Suicide published in 1897 (Cartwright, 2013). Later on, Robert Merton, the President of American
Sociological Association, developed the link between anomie and social structure. Unlike Durkheim,
Merton used the notion from Durkheim s anomie theory and explains that social structure could exert
pressure on an individual and directly cause deviance (Cartwright, ... Show more content on

This illegitimacy adjustment as the major concern involves two features (Merton, 1938). Firstly, such
antisocial behavior by certain conventional values of the culture and by the class structure involving
differential access to the approved opportunities for legitimate, prestige bearing pursuit of the culture
goal (Merton, 1938, p.27). Secondly, it is the consideration of equal significance. Because of the
limitation of legitimate effort, for those individuals with formal education and few economic
resources, success is hard to get (Merton, 1938). In addition, Merton declared that the theory he
studied was incomplete, since various structural elements were neglected; for example, the relevance
of cultural conflict for an analysis of culture goal and institutional means malintegration has not yet
been examined, and the social function performed by illicit responses has also been omitted (Merton,
1938, p.30). As for Steven Messner and Richard Rosenfeld (1995), their study, known as the
institutional anomie theory, focused more on how criminal behavior is affected institutionally, such as
by schools, churchs or companies. Messner and Rosenfeld declared that criminology has overly
focused on analyzing the behavior of individuals, such as mental illness, but paid less attention on
how social organization and

Gypsies in the Czech Republic Essay
Gypsies in the Czech Republic
The Gypsies of the former Czechoslovakia have suffered ethnic marginalization dating back to their
arrival in Eastern Europe over 700 years ago. The collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia, and
other Eastern Europe countries created the necessary conditions for the ethnic mobilization of the
Gypsies and other minorities. During communism minorities presence in Eastern Europe was not
officially recognized. The transition from the socialist system to democracy gave the Gypsies of
Czechoslovakia a chance to participate in the political process, to represent their interests and end
their ethnic marginilization. Though, due to historical circumstances dating back before communism
this has been a tough task ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gypsies led a nomadic lifestyle traveling from place to place never establishing an area of
permanent residence. They made a living by telling fortunes, begging, horse trading, and thieving.
Their nomadic life style was conducive to their activities because the Gypsies never established ties to
the community and were gone before they had arrived. As the Gypsies continued to travel they soon
began to develop a bad reputation that preceded their arrival in new areas. As the Gypsies arrived in
the Czech areas within the Holy Roman Empire they were regarded as an undesirable element in
society. Over the next few hundred years the Gypsies were persecuted and efforts were made to
destroy the Gypsy culture in the area of former Czechoslovakia. In the seventeenth century, many
Gypsies were hanged from trees along the border to discourage others from entering the country
(Crowe and Kolsti 94). Persecution of the Gypsies ended in the eighteenth century ended when the
rulers of the Hapsburg Empire tried to integrate them into the peasantry and make them a positive
aspect of society. They were forced to abandon their nomadic lifestyle and many of their horses were
shot. The Gypsies were not allowed to speak their native tongue, which is Romani, and their children
were instructed in the Christian religion. While many of these policies worked they were not regularly

Amy Hunter and through this article the author has tried to help early childhood caregivers and

Summary of the Article Temperament describes the way a child approaches, reacts and relate to the
world around them. It helps us identify the strengths of the child and the supports they need to succeed

The World Poverty Runs Rampant
People fear tangible and visible things, places they have been and never wish to return like the old
scary basement locked in darkness. Yet, poverty remains abstract, unknown, and even unfathomable to
most. Across the world poverty runs rampant as 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 per day and
more than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty on less than $1.50 per day. These are not abstracts, but
facts so let me repeat myself, 1.3 billion people, part of the human race whose DNA contain the same
sequences as everyone on this planet live in extreme poverty; where food, medical treatment, and
clean water remains a luxury. To help put this in prospective look at an old budgetary game of time
and numbers.
Just like most people do not fully fathom the difference between million and billion, more developed
societies neither fully understand the severity of the condition, nor do they understand the magnitude
of its impact. These problems are pushed aside and 22, 000 children each day die.
In 2014, Ebola outcry garnered visible top spots in media coverage leading the US among others to
send ground personal to contain the crisis. Across developing countries malaria and tuberculosis

Comparative Textual Analysis of Two Articles
The key to being able to differentiate one newspaper from another is often, if not always, the way the
latter presents its news, both aesthetically and stylistically. These aspects have gradually divided
newspapers into two distinct categories: broadsheets and tabloids. The former being a more neutral
and respected type and the latter a newspaper for more or less entertainment purposes only. This can
be well observed in two specific articles that both report on political campaigns.
The first one, an extract from The New Vision, a pro government Ugandan publication, recounts
presidential candidate Paddy Bitama s arrival to the official nomination as an election candidate. The
article vaguely follows Bitama („of Amarula Family an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article also uses a lot of local expressions such as „bodaboda , a word which has been given the
meaning of a bicycle taxi .
The second article however, recounts the story of Nixon s involvement in a bugging scandal that
eventually led to his resignation as U.S. president. Another basic aspect that differentiates this
newspaper article from the Ugandan one is, first of all, that it is not as recent (seeing as the latter was
published in 2010 and the former in 1972) and seems to be a bit more serious and longer in length.
Nonetheless, this article, entitled „GOP security aide among 5 arrested in bugging affair still has some
emotive and vague language: „We deplore action of this kind in or our of politics and „the mystery
deepens , along with a few euphemisms such as „the bugging incident . From this one will be able to
conclude that even this article is not completely un biased. In fact, it is, additionally, rather informal.
This is especially obvious when the journalists decide to use GOP, a nickname for the Republican
Party and an abbreviation of „Grand Old Party , instead of its official name.
Finally, the short paragraphs that make the article a whole are crowded with various quotes, and even
mention the rather irrelevant age of a certain CIA employee James W. McCord. Even though these
aspects are, as

Review Of Anna Deavere Smith s Twilight Essay
In May of 1992, actress and playwright Anna Deavere Smith was commissioned to write a one woman
performance piece about the experiences, feelings, and tensions that contributed to and were
exacerbated by the 1992 Los Angeles riots.[1] For her work, Smith interviewed over 200 residents of
Los Angeles during the time of the riot. Her script consists entirely of the actual words of members of
the Los Angeles community as they reflect on their experiences surrounding the Los Angeles riots. As
Smith described in the introduction to her play, Twilight, which she later published as a book, I am
first looking for the humanness inside the problems, or the crises. [2] She strived to maintain a wide
variety of perspectives, interviewing people from all walks of life: white, black, Korean, Latino, poor,
rich, police officers and gang members alike. Anna Deavere Smith s play was widely received as a
brilliant work of theater. One New York Times reviewer, David Richards, praised her performance
saying, She does people s souls. [3] Anna Deavere Smith s play Twilight helps illuminate the thoughts
and feelings of many diverse perspectives behind the racial tensions, the perceived police brutality,
and the lack of leadership for greatly needed urban renewal. Combined with historical research,
Twilight provides a meaningful examination of the underlying causes of the Los Angeles riots. A
longer historical view also reveals the larger class tensions and the massive fluctuation of ethnic

A deficiency in the alpha 1 antitrypsin protein that protects the lung from other enzymes can lead to
COPD. This will usually occur in the under 35 age range.
Traditionally, COPD affected males more than females but with the increase in female smoking in
developed countries combined with the increased use of fossil fuels in the home in developing
countries, there has been an increase in females developing COPD. COPD now affects females more
than males, however when the age factor is taken into consideration then the death rate is 46% higher
in males than females. The disease also affects more Caucasian people than people of darker
orientation, again with age taken into account, the death rate being 63% higher amongst Caucasians
than darker ethnicities. (Chronic obstructive pulmunary disease causes, 2012)
In a recent World Health Organisation publication (World Health Organisation, 2013) an estimated 64
million people were suffering from COPD in 2004 and 5 million people died worldwide due to the
effects of COPD, which accounted for 5% of total world deaths in 2005. Due to the lack of effective
treatment in developing countries, almost 90% of worldwide deaths occur in low middle income
countries.
In Western Australia COPD is in the top 10 leading causes of death, accounting for 390 deaths in

This can lead to an increased sense of self esteem, the motivation and confidence to participate in new
activities.
It is imperative that practitioners are able to observe and assess each child s development in order to
gain a full understanding of their development and how they can build upon this in order to cater to
the needs of the child and allow them to fulfill their potential. This is highlighted by Wheeler (2009,
p.63) in stating that Observations are fed into family worker and team planning so that future activities
can be based on an individual child s interests and patterns of behavior and thereby enhance their
learning .
The importance of practitioner observation is further underlined by Bruce (2010, p.37) in stating that
every observation is likely to have some implications for planning: first, with regard to the individual
child and, secondly, for the staff and setting perhaps changing a routine or introducing something new.
In relation to diversity, the early years practitioner can attend to the diverse needs of each child and
their individual requirements in many different ways.
The practitioner could address this by building up a positive relationship (EYFS 2007) with parents.
The DFES 2.2 states that respecting diversity is imperative and that all families are important and
should be welcomed and valued within the

Informative Speech On Tattoos
Tattooing is a body modification practice used for centuries across the globe. Because of the multiple
origins of tattoos, there are several techniques and countless styles. Every tattoo is unique in meaning

in and out of popularity over the course of history, though they have never and most likely will never

In an article titled Ancient Britons: The Most Recognizable Tattoos of History that I accessed on June

We know of these tattooed tribes largely due to texts written by ancient Romans, who invaded the

Trojan War in Homer´s The Iliad
Homer s Heroes
The epic poem called The Iliad written by Homer concerns the Trojan War. It shows Trojan and
Achaean warriors courage, bravery and their attempt to become the best fighter to get fame, glory, and
honor. The heroes in The Iliad follow Homer s heroic code, striving for excellence. Hector and
Achilles strength comes from their desire for fame, glory, honor and their acceptance of fate. These
qualities are considered to be characteristics of Homer s heroic code. However, the actions of Paris are
not heroic causing trouble and conflict for many people. In fact, Paris non heroic action started the

town, I lose all hope of home but gain unfading glory; on the other, if I sail back to my own land my
glory fails but a long life lies ahead of me. (K 47 54)
The proper burial which Achilles does for all his victims in the war is a heroic action. Since burial is a
very important thing for both Achaeans and Trojans, the families of the dead ones were able to
appreciate Achilles respect for the dead people. Andromache says of Achilles attack on her father:
He killed him, but, reverent at least in this, did not spoil him. Body, gear, and weapon forged so
handsomely, he burned, and heaped a barrow over the ashes. Elms were planted round by mountain
nymphs of him who bears the storm cloud. (J 127 33)
Achilles requests to his mother, Thetis, to ask Zeus and make the Trojans stronger until Agamemnon
and his army realize that they need Achilles back in order to win the war. So, Thetis asks Zeus, Lend
the Trojans power,/ until the Achaeans recompense my son/ and heap new honour upon him! (C 20 23)
The strategy that Achilles plans works out and eventually he is back in the army. However since he
chooses fame and glory over a long and relaxing life, the time for Achilles death comes. Being the
hero that he is, Achilles accepts his fate when Hector foreshadows it and mentions his death is close

The market risk that exists is associated with the changes in the value of investments with the plans.
While both types of plans carry market risks, the risks associated with defined benefit plans lies on the
shoulders of the employer while those associated with defined contribution plans are assumed by the
employee. During periods of economic growth the cost of maintaining a pension fund decreases due to
the rising values of investments. Employers are able to contribute less and still meet future pension
obligations. However, when markets go down the employer has to contribute more money to the plan
to ensure that they are able to pay retirees their promised funds. Retirees receive the same dollar
amount of income regardless of market conditions. With defined contribution plans the risks and
rewards are reversed. Since the retiree both assumes risks and reaps benefits, periods of economic
growth cause the retiree s wealth and income to increase and negative market changes cause the
opposite to occur. Employers have agreed to a fixed amount and are unable to adjust their
contributions downwards. In essence, with this type of pension plan the employer does not take on the
risk of their obligation changing unexpectedly, the pension funds being inadequate to meet their
obligation or any added periodic expense of carrying a pension plan. Once retirement occurs, the

Discipline Is Vital To Parenting In Ray Bradbury s The Veldt
Discipline is Vital to Parenting In today s society, parents that do not discipline their children are
perceived as nonchalant, or carefree. Ray Bradbury, an acclaimed writer, disagrees with this concept.
Instead, Bradbury would say that discipline is a vital component of parenting, and without it, children
will commit awful acts. With the use of foreshadowing and allusion in his short story, The Veldt ,
Bradbury depicts that a lack of discipline leads to horrendous, potentially deadly consequences.
Bradbury foreshadows the parents fatal deaths to develop the repercussions they face for not
disciplining Wendy and Peter. For instance, after the Hadleys have dinner, the parents head to the
nursery and find George s old wallet with drops of saliva and blood smears on both sides (Bradbury
8). The disturbing state George and Lydia find the wallet in hints that something is wrong with the
nursery and that the virtual animals can affect real life objects. Bradbury also adds the following
dialogue between the parents: Those screams they sound familiar. Do they? Yes, awfully (9). The two
screams Mr. and Mrs. Hadley heard were strikingly familiar because they were their own screams,
hinting that the children wanted them dead and that the lions in the nursery were going to kill them.
Throughout The Veldt , the parents hardly discipline their children, or care for them, causing the

Personal Publishing Is Broken, By Michael P. Taylor
Academic publishing is something that many people will experience at some point, either in school or
at their job, and some of whom are being paid to publish in academic journals. When published in
academic journals, to read the papers, those interested would need to buy an expensive subscription
and annually renew it. However, this is starting to take a toll on many universities and researchers
around the world because they do not have the past research that others performed to base their future
research on. Michael P. Taylor s Opinion: Academic Publishing is Broken, addresses the fact that
many people do not have access to academic literature, due to the high cost of purchasing
subscriptions for the academic journals, and that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taylor is a research associate in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol. To
make an impact in the scientific community, a scientist must publish their research in academic
journals, specifically journals for certain areas of science. Taylor has published many papers about the
structure of dinosaurs bodies and the evolution of dinosaurs in both open access journals and academic
journals ( Michael P Taylor ). This shows that Taylor himself had to experience the process of
publishing papers, both in academic journals and open access journals, and going through other
academic journals to create ideas for new scientific discoveries. Therefore, he understands both the
research side and the side of the ordinary citizens who want to read scientific papers. This impacts the
audience by making them understand that Taylor is a credible person to be writing an article on this
topic, strengthening his argument.
Additionally, Taylor shows that he is a credible source for the discussion of open access publishing
through being knowledgeable about the topic by using statistics and doing his own research to
strengthen his argument. Taylor begins his article by explaining that the money that comes from the
taxations of the taxpayers goes to the government to be reallocated into the government funded
research. Then, the researchers release their information by publishing it in academic journals, using
the government s money. Next, by defining open

Hindu Cultural Beliefs
Abstract
This paper focuses on three different religions and their cultural values and traditions surrounding
death as well as the nursing implications regarding patients of various religious and cultural beliefs.
The Hindu religion focuses on reincarnation and assisting the dead to their next life. Their traditions,
such as placing a basil leaf, clarified butter and gold in the deceased s mouth, help their loved one s
spirit move on. The Islamic religion understands that the death is God s will and take part in various
traditions such as bathing the dead loved one. Buddhist religion focuses on maintaining a relationship
with the deceased. By creating an alter and providing offerings, the dead can assist the living with
things the living cannot control. It is vital for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After death has occurred, a basil leaf, clarified butter, and a piece of gold are placed in the mouth of
the deceased so that the desire for wealth and food is satisfied (Gupta, 2011, p.254). As far as
disposing of the body, some people choose cremation; some choose a burial and some even leave the
body in the Ganges River. The funerals are very simple and elegant, which represents respect for the
deceased (Gupta, 2011). The behavior associated with bereavement is very different to western
culture. In India, Hindu family members are expected to cry and wail loudly as it is considered healthy
to have an outburst of strong emotions. Lack of loud wailing by the widow and other family members
of the deceased is considered pathological (Gupta, 2011, p. 255). It is the duty of the relatives and
friends to console the grieving family members. (Gupta, 2011, p. 255) Demonstration of respect for
the dead is done several different ways. Typically, a large photograph of the deceased person is
displayed prominently in the house, with a garland draped over the photo and a burning incense and
an oil lamp are place in front (Gupta, 2011, p.

  • 2. Definition Of Wisdom In Fahrenheit 451 There are many definitions of wisdom but one of the best understanding I have received is that wisdom is knowledge gained through suffering. Elaine Heath This quote from Elaine Heath and Larry Duggins book Missional.Monastic.Mainline. mentioned what I thought of as the quintessential definition of wisdom. Through effort and sacrifice, one can attain pearls of wisdom such as freedom can t be bought cheap, it s better to die with knowledge than to live in ignorance, and ignorance is bliss only for those whose minds are vacant of the veracity of facts. Freedom is the foundation of western democracies and the fundamental argument that people have the unalienable right to live as they choose and it is undeniable that freedom can t be bought cheap. This is true since freedom is the reason for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, etc.In Fahrenheit 451, the value of freedom is illustrated in Montag s conversation with Mildred after he witnessed the immolation of the old lady where he verbalizes his frustration by saying There must be something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. (Bradbury 48) In this quote, we can see that the lady choose to stay with her books, a symbol of freedom and knowledge, which emphasized the idea that freedom is worth giving one s life to protect. This biomedical approach is founded predominately by the belief that medical intervention, will return the health of a patient to a pre illness state (Khatcheressian Brown, 2009). However, an ample body of evidence is accumulating to suggest that consideration must also be given to the impact of psychological and social influences on health. The images that caught my eye in terms of major differences were the Non Sprayed, and Sprayed versions of the Bath. The major difference between the two being the number of yellow dots on each agar plate. By looking at the Non Sprayed agar plate of the bath I saw that there was a large amount of this specific bacteria, but when I looked at the sprayed version, it was apparent that almost all of it had disappeared, except for one dot. It was first discussed by the government in 1991, and has been an ongoing debate ever since (Ang and Nadarajan, 1996). The thought behind censorship in Singapore stem from the idea that media can have negative effects on their consumers, it is therefore wiser to err on the side of caution through censorship (Ang and Nadarajan, 1996). The spirit of Dylan Thomas would only crack when people have completely abandoned him, however, the split ends are kept together in history forever. Lovers be lost love shall not . They believe that there are no real miracles but events that can be better explained in scientific terms (the plagues, walking on water etc) or are simply fabricated. This theory was first coined by Emile Durkheim, a French sociologist in his book Suicide published in 1897 (Cartwright, 2013). It is imperative that practitioners are able to observe and assess each child s development in order to gain a full understanding of their development and how they can build upon this in order to cater to the needs of the child and allow them to fulfill their potential. This is highlighted by Wheeler (2009, p.63) in stating that Observations are fed into family worker and team planning so that future activities can be based on an individual child s interests and patterns of behavior and thereby enhance their learning . The importance of practitioner observation is further underlined by Bruce (2010, p.37) in stating that every observation is likely to have some implications for planning: first, with regard to the individual child and, secondly, for the staff and setting perhaps changing a routine or introducing something new. In relation to diversity, the early years practitioner can attend to the diverse needs of each child and their individual requirements in many different ways. The practitioner could address this by building up a positive relationship (EYFS 2007) with parents. We know of these tattooed tribes largely due to texts written by ancient Romans, who invaded the British Isles, and in them they described the tattoos on the Britons as making them all the more terrifying in battle. (K 47 54) The proper burial which Achilles does for all his victims in the war is a heroic action. Since burial is a very important thing for both Achaeans and Trojans, the families of the dead ones were able to appreciate Achilles respect for the dead people. Andromache says of Achilles attack on her father: He killed him, but, reverent at least in this, did not spoil him. Body, gear, and weapon forged so handsomely, he burned, and heaped a barrow over the ashes. Elms were planted round by mountain nymphs of him who bears the storm cloud. However, there are also various types of compensation that one can earn from employment after they have retired from a company. The market risk that exists is associated with the changes in the value of investments with the plans. While both types of plans carry market risks, the risks associated with defined benefit plans lies on the shoulders of the employer while those associated with defined contribution plans are assumed by the employee. During periods of economic growth the cost of maintaining a pension fund decreases due to the rising values of investments. Employers are able to contribute less and still meet future pension obligations. However, when markets go down the employer has to contribute more money to the plan to ensure that they are able to pay retirees their promised funds. Retirees receive the same dollar amount of income regardless of market conditions. With defined contribution plans the risks and rewards are reversed. Since the retiree both assumes risks and reaps benefits, periods of economic growth cause the retiree s wealth and income to increase and negative market changes cause the opposite to occur. Employers have agreed to a fixed amount and are unable to adjust their contributions downwards. In essence, with this type of pension plan the employer does not take on the risk of their obligation changing unexpectedly, the pension funds being inadequate to meet their obligation or any added periodic expense of carrying a pension plan. • 39. Discipline Is Vital To Parenting In Ray Bradbury s The Veldt Discipline is Vital to Parenting In today s society, parents that do not discipline their children are perceived as nonchalant, or carefree. Ray Bradbury, an acclaimed writer, disagrees with this concept. Instead, Bradbury would say that discipline is a vital component of parenting, and without it, children will commit awful acts. With the use of foreshadowing and allusion in his short story, The Veldt , Bradbury depicts that a lack of discipline leads to horrendous, potentially deadly consequences. Bradbury foreshadows the parents fatal deaths to develop the repercussions they face for not disciplining Wendy and Peter. For instance, after the Hadleys have dinner, the parents head to the nursery and find George s old wallet with drops of saliva and blood smears on both sides (Bradbury 8). The disturbing state George and Lydia find the wallet in hints that something is wrong with the nursery and that the virtual animals can affect real life objects. Bradbury also adds the following dialogue between the parents: Those screams they sound familiar. Do they? Yes, awfully (9). The two screams Mr. and Mrs. Hadley heard were strikingly familiar because they were their own screams, hinting that the children wanted them dead and that the lions in the nursery were going to kill them. Throughout The Veldt , the parents hardly discipline their children, or care for them, causing the children to despise them and develop a rotten character. Had the parents properly ruled ... To make an impact in the scientific community, a scientist must publish their research in academic journals, specifically journals for certain areas of science. Taylor has published many papers about the structure of dinosaurs bodies and the evolution of dinosaurs in both open access journals and academic journals ( Michael P Taylor ). This shows that Taylor himself had to experience the process of publishing papers, both in academic journals and open access journals, and going through other academic journals to create ideas for new scientific discoveries. Therefore, he understands both the research side and the side of the ordinary citizens who want to read scientific papers. This impacts the audience by making them understand that Taylor is a credible person to be writing an article on this topic, strengthening his argument. Additionally, Taylor shows that he is a credible source for the discussion of open access publishing through being knowledgeable about the topic by using statistics and doing his own research to strengthen his argument. After death has occurred, a basil leaf, clarified butter, and a piece of gold are placed in the mouth of the deceased so that the desire for wealth and food is satisfied (Gupta, 2011, p.254). As far as disposing of the body, some people choose cremation; some choose a burial and some even leave the body in the Ganges River. The funerals are very simple and elegant, which represents respect for the deceased (Gupta, 2011). The behavior associated with bereavement is very different to western culture. In India, Hindu family members are expected to cry and wail loudly as it is considered healthy to have an outburst of strong emotions.
