Declaration Of The Rights Of Man And The French Revolution
On August 26, 1789, the National Assembly of France passed the Declaration of the Rights of Man
and the Citizen, a document that would become the cornerstone of the French Revolution. Influenced
heavily by the American Revolution and the Enlightenment, the ideas seen in the Declaration of the
Rights of Man and the Citizen can be traced to documents from these time period, outlining liberty,
property, security, and resistance to oppression as the basic rights of men. All four of these ideas can
then be broken down into the individual rights that not only made all men equal under the law, but put
France on the road towards a constitutional monarchy. The universal freedoms outlined in the
Declaration of the Rights of man consist of liberty,

1. What constitutes an arrest?
An arrest is when a person violates a criminal law and society s traditions demand that society should
take some action against that person. You must have probable cause to make an arrest. There must be

During booking it consists of recording the arrest in official law enforcement records, fingerprinting,
and photographing the accused. If the accused is up for bail they can post bail at this time. If bail is not
posted, the accused will be searched and placed in jail until he or she does post bail or until final
prosecution takes place. A more thorough search may be made at the time of booking to search for
weapons or evidence that may have been missed (p. 86).
8. Explain the right to a phone call as pertaining to a person who has been arrested.
The accused is entitled to certain rights. The laws of some states give you the right to make a phone
call. It prohibits individuals from being held indefinitely without anyone knowing that they have been
arrested. Generally, an arrested person is entitled to make the call immediately after being booked or
within three hours of the arrest. An arrested person is entitled to make at least one or more completed
calls to an attorney, bail bondsman, relative, or other person. The calls are to be made free of charge to
a local area otherwise the arrested person has to pay the extra expense. Each state has different laws
when it comes to the number of calls, to whom, how soon after arrest, and whose expense they may be
made, and whether the calls are monitored (p.

Refugees In The US: A Literature Review of Refugee Resettlement Process in The US
Rakiya Witwer GPP 105 Section 101 Social Welfare 4th Year
International Rescue Committee (IRC):
For my practice experience I am working at International Rescue Committee in Oakland California. I
will be working from August 29th until I complete my 240 hours requirement for the PE. As an intern
I am working with the Economic Empowerment Program and my role in that capacity includes
helping refugees with resume building, job searches, job applications and interview preparations. My
other roles include accompanying clients to job interviews and employment advocacy on behalf of
clients. I also do some light administrative tasks like case noting, check entry, client tracking and
filing of client documents.
Introduction
Refugees have had a long history in the US beginning in WWII. But in recent times, the refugee crisis
has reached a critical mass around the world with continued conflict in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and
the Congo just to name a few. There are unprecedented numbers of refugees seeking help in many
countries around the world. The US pledged to take 10,000 from Syria alone this year and is
promising to increase that number to 50,000 in the coming years. To tackle the high volume task of
resettling the US government relies on non profit humanitarian organization and other NGO agencies
to help place refugees in

The Function Of Student Nurse
Monday, October 19th: Today I was at Moses Cone renal floor in the role of student nurse. I had two
patients. One patient was a patient I have had before who went to hemodialysis. My other patient I had
not had before, and she was admitted because her salivary glands were swollen and infected. My past
patient went to hemodialysis at 7:45 right after I got report and introduced myself to her as my student
nurse. I was able to go see her in hemodialysis. The nurse who was working with her explained to me
who hemodialysis works. He had a little bit of a cultural/language barrier and it was difficult to
understand exactly what he was explaining. I was able to understand a little bit about how to monitor
your patient and make adjustments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was on a dysphagia 1 diet and was receiving her pills crushed in applesauce. She wasn t tolerating
it well because it was so bitter. Since I observed her eating her breakfast without any problems, and
since the order to crush her pills was a nursing order, we tried her on swallowing pills with water. She
did really well with this, so I spoke with her nurse about changing her order. This nursing intervention
we implemented deals specifically with learning outcome #2 which talks about analyzing nursing
interventions as they relate to health promotion in the older adult. The intervention we implemented
promoted our patient s comfort and also led to decreased gagging and greater adherence to taking
medications. Another less critical intervention I implemented were daily cares such as bathing,
ambulating, and changing her gown. These were also interventions for comfort and that contributed to
the patient feeling better about herself which will lead to healing. My personal goals for this week at
Moses Cone were: I will help another student with one of their tasks by the end of the day. I will make
a discharge plan or discuss with my nurse what discharge planning looks like before leaving. I will
introduce myself to my patients with my nurse. My patient goals are: My patients will be able to
explain what they need to do upon discharge to maintain health. My patients will state a non medicinal
therapy that can be used in their treatment before the end of the day. My

Home Ownership Has Long Been Considered The Epitome Of
Home ownership has long been considered the epitome of success within Australian culture. A 2008
literature review highlighted almost 70% of the Australian population fall into two distinct categories
on home ownership: outright ownership and mortgage repayments, (University of Western Sydney
Urban Research Centre, 2008, p. 4). Outright home ownership comprises approximately 34% of the
Australian population in the first category. Approximately 35% of the Australian population are
currently repaying loans after obtaining a mortgage from an approved financial institution. Renting
comprises approximately 29% of the current Australian population, (University of Western Sydney

The average household income required to purchase property in Melbourne was $79,266, (Core Logic,
2016, p. 12).
ADVANTAGES OF USING SUPERANNUATION TO PURCHASE A FIRST HOME
The Australian Federal Government in recent years announced a contentious proposal in which first
home buyers should access their initial superannuation savings to purchase their property. Most recent
data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) as of February 2015 highlighted the increase in
first home buyer population in their early thirties to forties by 57%. This is in contrast to the greater
number of first home buyers aged in their early twenties and thirties when housing was more
affordable, (Marinos, 2015).
The proposal for first home buyers using superannuation savings to finance the purchase of their first
home was raised initially by now current South Australian senator Nick Xenophon and former
Treasurer Joe Hockey MP back in 2014, (Marinos, 2015). The proposals forwarded by the South
Australian independent senator are meritorious for two reasons. Firstly, home buyers seeking to gain
ascendancy onto the real estate market can do so by purchasing property via superannuation funds,
(Gadd, n.d.). Secondly, using a proportion of superannuation savings could result in the creation of
affordable housing and the prevention of real estate speculation. The South Australian senator cites a
housing affordability measure currently operating in

The Contributions Of The Endowment Effect Essay
The endowment effect has been a heavily studied subject since the 1980 s when it was first described
by Richard Thaler. This effect describes the phenomena where the buying and selling prices of an
object have major differences. The sellers tend to overvalue their object, requesting higher prices than
a buyer would be willing to pay. The buyers, on the other hand, demonstrate a much lower maximum
price. This discrepancy between buying and selling prices, dependent upon the perspective of the
person, is called the endowment effect. This effect has been connected to many different cognitive
mechanisms, but up until this point has not been studied from the perspective of cognitive aging. The
research in this paper will attempt to describe the endowment effect, relevant research, potential
cognitive mechanisms, and hypotheses relevant to age.
Theoretical Framework A major theory linked to the endowment effect is Tversky and Kahneman s
(1979) prospect theory. This theory provided new insight into the decision making process, and went
further than previous theory, the utility theory, to explain how decisions are made. Tversky and
Kahneman describe prospect theory as a decision between gains and losses, or prospect and gambles
as it is referred to in their 1979 paper. With every choice we make there are probabilities of losing and
probabilities of gaining. In terms of gaining, prospect theory states that people are risk averse. This
means that when there are certain options of

Skittles and M M s have been an all time favorite for many years.. But if you could only have one or

both popular candies that share around the same colour and size but definitely do not share the same

The appearance of each candy is the biggest comparison the two candies share. When holding a Skittle
in one hand and a M M in the other you can easily tell the difference by seeing the white printed S and
M on each of the candies. When holding the candy the M M has a harder outside shell that makes it
hard to crush with your fingers. Skittles on the other hand can be easily smashed down to a smaller
size just by using two fingers. When eating Skittles and comparing to an M M you will notice that the
Skittle is much more chewier when consuming. When eating an M M they take less time to chew and
aren t a chewy/gummy substance like the Skittle. Each candy has the same rounded shape with the
hard shell. But what sets them apart is their flavor. An interesting bit of Skittles candy trivia is the fact
that it takes around eight hours to put the candy coating on the outside of the fruit center (Milton).
Which sure is a lot of time to coat a single Skittle. When holding the Skittle and M M you will notice
they have about the same texture. Since each candy is finished with a hard coated shell it leaves it with
a smooth casing that holds the goodness

Argument Against Golf
Nowadays there are a great many of sports and activities that we are able to enjoy. When it comes to
some of these activities many people discuss whether they are a sport or a game. There is a certain
debate that deals with Golf and it is, whether it should be considered a sport or a game. Many people
have different views and opinions on things and golf is one of them. My view is that golf should be
considered a sport for multiple reasons. First it follows the definition of a sport, second it is included
in major sporting events such as the Olympics, and third its golfers are considered athletes just like
any other sport. Since Golf is reaches the definition of a sport it helps see how golf qualifies for the

The definition of a athlete is someone who is proficient in a sport and other physical exercise. There
are many people who are proficient at golf and are considered golf athletes. These people go on golf

all people who play a sport leisurely are considered athletes so not all golfers should be considered
athletes. Professional golfers should really be considered athletes due to the effort and work they put
into getting ready for their games. ESPN did a study in 2004 asking many other athletes on what they
believed. There was opinions that golf isn t really a sport but a very difficult game. There was
however quite a few people who said that golf is definitely a sport. Many athletes from different sports
claim that golf is a very difficult sport and that s why people like it. They make many good points and
a lot of them talk about how they thought golf was not as difficult until they actually tried it and
realised how truly difficult it is. Many of these athletes have played golf before and understand what it

it. According to one website called golflink it talks about what golfers now do to

The Skin Or Integumentary System
The Skin or integumentary system is the largest organ in the human body. Its main purpose and or
function is to shield the entire body from the outer environment. Without the presence of the
integument, our bodies would be completely vulnerable to various factors such as temperature change,
mechanical damage, chemical destruction, and bacterial disturbance. Analyzing and understanding the
skin s structure and various functions will help us find ways to properly maintain this crucial organ
protecting our bodies.
Structure Function
As mentioned earlier, the skin is the largest organ in the body, accounting for approximately 16% of
the total body weight of an adult (McLafferty E, Hendry C, Alistair F. 2012). Throughout the body we
see that skin has many variations of thickness which usually is determined by the specific function of
the body area. Consisting of sweat glands that react to changes in temperature, and extensive layer of
adipose tissue, and cells that are in charge of identifying changes in temperature, touch, and pressure.
The skin is comprised of two main layers, the upper epidermis layer, and the lower dermis layer.
Constructed of keratinized squamous epithelium, the epidermis contains four primary types of cells.
The first and most abundant are keratinocytes charged with the production of keratin, a protein that
helps give the epidermis its protective layer. Next up are cells known as melanocytes which are
responsible for the synthesis of the skin

The Importance Of Severe Weather In The Short Story The...
Many people feel a certain way when something terrible happens to them or a loved one, but should
they be held responsible? It just barely missed me, but in my place, it swallowed everything that
mattered most to me and swept it to another world (133). People should not be held responsible for
their actions in life or death situations because weather related disaster and accidents are
uncontrollable, people have experienced enough tragedy and rescue are very costly. Even though
many people are very careful with adventuring, accidents and weather related disasters still happen;
they re inevitable. Severe weather in the short story The Seventh Man notes the main character is in

Netflix Is Taking The Online Entertainment Rental Market
History Netflix is taking the online entertainment rental market by storm. Reed Hastings and March
Randolph began a movie rental company that required members to subscribe to rental TV show series
and movies by mail in 1997. This was the newest way to rent movies to avoid lengthy drives and
ridiculous late fees since retail stores such as Blockbuster and Hollywood rental were almost extinct.
By 2005, the company already had 4.2 million customers subscribed to the movie service
(Netflix.com). In 2007, Netflix evolved to digital technology. The company incorporated a new
streaming service plan to customers that would make the service accessible at one s fingertips. The
convenience of watching movies went from receiving and sending DVD s by mail to viewing a large
selection of movies over the internet and television. According to Netflix.com, every year after
introducing TV shows and movies on the internet, this company advanced to a series of strategic
changes in a matter of no time including: (1) renting video games (2) offering service on most digital
technology devices (i.e., I Pads, Video game devices, Mobile phones) (3) launching in different

Goffman s Contributions On The Theory Of Social Stigma
I have chosen to examine Irving Goffman s contributions to the theory of social stigma, specifically
through the perspectives presented in Stigma: Notes on the Management of Spoiled Identity. My
analysis of this work leads me to imagine communication as a mask, possessing the ability to shield
the wearer s actual social identity from observers.
This metaphor has utility because it provides a concrete way to conceptualize a portion of the complex
web of presentation and interpretations that accompany communicative interaction with an individual
who is perceived to have an attribute that positions them as significantly other. When I originally
proposed communication as a mask, I was envisioning the mask as noise designed to act as a barrier to
communication. However, once I became aware of Goffman s work, I realized that this particular
conception of communication provides specific advantages for the stigmatized in a way that
acknowledges the constant vigilance and level of effort that a stigmatized individual must put forth in
order to engage with a normal without revealing their attribute. Thus, I have chosen this perspective
because it disturbed my default understanding of communication as an exchange between two
normals. It may enable those who use it to develop insight into the experiences of those who perceive
communicative interactions differently then themselves.
Goffman s Presentation of the Self in Everyday Life (2007) considers even the most mundane

Beyond The Things They Carried
Beyond the Things They Carried
The Vietnam War began in 1954, consisting of many extensive, horrific years of battle that seemed to
create more harm to the United States and its soldiers rather than to North Vietnam. The 500,000
United States military personnel returned home with the loss of the war and the loss of their friends on
their minds. Although the physical and emotional experiences that the men went through is
unfathomable, Tim O Brien does a great job portraying what life as a soldier was truly like in the
Vietnam War. In the book The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien depicts the unstable emotional and
psychological condition of the American soldiers through the symbolism of their belongings and
personal anecdotes from their lives. The book opens with Tim O Brien listing items that the soldiers
needed to carry with them for life in Vietnam, such as a P 38 can opener, mosquito repellent, C
rations, dog tags, and many more necessities, weighing around twelve to eighteen pounds in total.
Many men also had the added weight of weapons needed for combat, which then added another five to
twenty six pounds depending on what weapon and the amount of ammunition necessary. On average,
most men carried around thirty pounds, but the load was much higher when considering the emotional
and psychological weight put on their shoulders from the impact of these items. Early on in the book

issues, including safety concerns, privacy, and usage. A social network is an online service or site
through which people create and maintain interpersonal relationships (Merriam Webster 2017). Social
media and social networks play an essential role in teenagers daily lives around the world. There are

Sometimes, people get so socially attached to something online that they lose touch with friends,
creating small gaps and holes in close friendships/relationships (Roots of Action). Another big
downside of social networking is cyberbullying. The use of social networks exposes individuals to
harassment or inappropriate contact. Social media is one of the foremost causes of cyberbullying in
recent years (Final Inquiry Project). Cyberbullying victims no longer put schoolwork or homework
first. They think that if they attend school and try to make friends, they will be judged the same way
they were online. Three million teens and kids are absent from school per month due to bullying
online. In several cases, victims of cyberbullying have been driven to suicide. 20% of kids
cyberbullied think about suicide, and 1 in 10 attempt it (Cyber Bully). Social media is available to
predators as well as friends and has spread widely among young people. Due to social networking
sites, employee productivity is lost in the workplace. The unrestricted usage of social media is having
a negative impact on employee productivity (Digital Vidya 2017). Facebook is the most popular and
most frequently visited social network platform used in the workplace. People get in after lunch hours
and then lose themselves on social media. We estimate to be losing around 20% productivity because
of this juvenile behavior (Digital Vidya 2017). It

Examples Of Nonverbal Communication
Chapter 7 is about nonverbal communication message of Looking Out Looking In question asks to
name three different types of nonverbal communication and give a real life example of each, then
show which nonverbal function it serves and discuss the level of ambiguity that is present with each.
Three types of nonverbal communication are gestures, touch, and time. The first nonverbal
communication pattern listed is gestures, gestures are the movements of hands and arms. Gestures
were one of the first forms of human communication. The most used gestures are called illustrators
which accompany speech but don t stand on their own. The second most common type of gestures are
called emblems which are nonverbal behaviors that have a specific ... Show more content on

A real life example of touch is one time I was having a deep conversation with my mentor and he new
I was having a hard time and he touched my shoulder when he was talking with me and it was just a
level of comfort and care that filled my body to know that everything will be okay and I am cared for,
so in this aspect touch was used correctly. Touch has the nonverbal function of complementing, touch
complements the message and emotions relating to the message. The level of ambiguity for touch is
pretty low, I believe that the touch being used is easy to determine what is being put forth, by the
amount of pressure used, where the touch was and in what context.
The third nonverbal communication pattern listed is time, the book describes the scientific term as
chronemics, the way people handle time is very important on being aware of if a person is interested
in the topic or just wants to leave right away and stick to small talk. A good real life example of this is,
yesterday when my friend/roommate got home from work we asked each other about our day, and I
went to explain to her about something that had happened, my back window broke and won t go up
she didn t seem to interested just said a short yeah and went upstairs. This showed me that she didn t

Fragile X Syndrome Analysis
In 1943 two men, Martin and Bell discovered a gene condition called Fragile X Syndrome. 2 Fragile
X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition, which may cause an intellectual disability, behavioural and
learning difficulties and various other physical characterstics.1 It occurs when the female gene (X
gene) is repeated over 50 200 times, this is called Fragile X permutation. 1 In 1969, Herbert Lubs
established the chromosomal test for Fragile X Syndrome. Fragile X Syndrome is an inherited
condition in which the X chromosome is passed on from the parent to the child. If the woman has the
affect X, they will have an increased chance for passing the gene on but as men have an Y as well as
an X chromosome, if they have Fragile X Syndrome, their sons won t be affected as they have their
fathers Y chromosome. It is the most common form of inherited intellectual disability in males and a
major cause of intellectual disability in females.
There is currently no cure for this condition yet and treatment is generally based on the symptoms the
individual has.
During the 1970s and 1980s, the only examination for Fragile X Syndrome was a test in which blood
was taken to test for chromosomes.3 However, this was unreliable as not always accurate. In the
1990s scientists identified a specific gene that causes Fragile X Syndrome and ... Show more content

Academic Performance Action Plan Essay
Action Plan Academic Performance Action Plan My academic performance goal for my Senior year is
to maintain a GPA of 3.5. To achieve that, I have determined myself to achieve as minimum grades,
two B+ and three A for this semester and for Spring and Fall of 2017. So far, I have performed quite
well on my exams and projects this semester. However, on one class I barely passed my first exam
with a 70 even though I felt I was prepared to obtain a much better grade. Therefore, to achieve my
goal of maintaining a GPA of 3.5, I m tasked with preparing one week in advance for the exams on
this particular course to achieve at least a final grade of B. In addition to that, I found that completing
the assignments even a month before they were due helped me clear my schedule and allowed me
more time to do research on internship opportunities. To determine if I have achieved a significative
progress in maintaining a GPA above 3.5, I will join Beta Gamma Sigma on Spring 2017 and remain
part of it until I graduate. In addition, I ll change my studying technique for exams and prepare a week
prior to the tests. I will be able to determine the effectiveness of such technique if I m able to obtain at
least an 80 on the second exam for the course I m having difficulty with this semester. For next year, I
will also apply the same approach of completing assignments a month before to clear up my schedule
and focus time on improving my performance on the courses I could be struggling with.

merging of two black holes or the orbiting of two neutron stars , which can be expected to cause
gravitational waves large enough for us to detect on Earth, as, in general, any acceleration that is not
spherically or cylindrically symmetric will produce gravitational waves. Another example of this
would be a rotating star. A perfectly spherical star would not produce gravitational waves, however
stars, in practice, are never perfectly spherical, and so they will produce gravitational waves due to the
disturbances caused in the space time continuum.
In 1974, Joseph Taylor and Russell Hulse found such a pair of neutron stars in our own galaxy.[cite]
One of the stars is a pulsar, meaning it beams regular pulses of radio waves toward Earth. Taylor ...

Radio telescopes are similar to optical telescopes however they measure the radio frequency portion of
the electromagnetic spectrum rather than the visible portion. We use radio telescopes to study
naturally occurring radio wavelength light from stars, galaxies, black holes and other astronomical
objects. In order to locate gravitational waves we are looking for oscillations in the images we see, as
gravitational waves will bend light such as radio waves in alternating directions.
WEBER BARS
Simple devices to detect gravitational waves are known as Weber Bars. They were large aluminium
cylinders which had a fixed resonance frequency and the theory was that passing gravitational waves
would cause strains in space which would excite the resonant frequency of the cylinders to detectable
levels, however because these waves were so weak the cylinders needed to be very large and the
sensors has to be capable of detecting a change in the cylinders length by about 10 16 meters.
However, Weber Bars cannot directly measure gravitational waves as they can only detect extremely
strong gravitational waves which rarely if ever pass by at the required strength. Also Weber Bars can
only detect gravitational waves which have a certain frequency that can excite the resonant frequency
of the aluminium cylinders, and so were very limited

The Effects Of Facebook On Society By Yvette Vickers

movie star would have been 86 in this year, but nobody exactly knows how old she was at the time of
her death! According to the coroner s report, she was died for a long time ago before her neighbor
discovered her death. Her neighbor, Susan Savage noticed cobwebs in her windows and yellowing pile
of letters in her mailbox. She reached through a broken window to unlock the door and she reached
upstairs, she found Vickers s mummified boy near a heater that was running at that time. Near the
body, Vickers s computer was also running. The Los Angeles Times posted a story, which quickly
went viral throughout the country. Within two weeks, Vickers s lonesome death was already the
subject to thousands of Facebook posts and tweets. She had long been a horror movie icon, now she
was an icon of a different kind of horror, our growing fear of loneliness. Certainly she received much
more attention after her death than she did in the end years of her life. With no children, no religious
group, and no immediate social circle of any kind, she had begun to look elsewhere for
companionship. Vickers had made calls not to friends or family but to distant fans whom she found
through fan conventions and Internet sites. Though her web of connections had grown broader but it

South Afric A Long And Bloody History
Where the warm waters of the Indian Ocean meet the subtropical shoreline of South Africa s eastern
coast lies the Dhlinza Forest. Under the cool shade of the arching canopy, the stillness and stifling
silence imparts a feeling of serenity: even its name alludes to this, meaning place of grave meditation
in the Zulu language. Despite this apparent lifelessness, it is considered one of the greatest examples
of unique biodiversity in all of southern Africa. Within the towering trees, under crackling leaf beds
and between the broken boulders live hundreds of species of animal, including rare and endangered
birds, insects and reptiles. On the very edge of the Dhlinza forest lies the semi rural town of Eshowe,

Josef Mengele s Research
Throughout World War II, multiple Nazi researchers and physicians experimented upon thousands of
concentration camp prisoners, in painful and often deadly ways. Arguably the most horrific of them all
was Dr. Josef Mengele and his experiments conducted on twins, dwarfs, and prisoners with physical
abnormalities. Mengele s primary aim in research was to prove that certain traits such as eye colour,
obesity, and nasal features were inherited and thusly could be bred out of existence. This interest
stemmed from the Nazi obsession with a pure race, which ultimately led to the extreme violation and
sterilization of undesirable groups . (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84)

One of the main issues is whether or not it is ethically sound to use the results of the medical research
that the Nazi s conducted during World War II; there is much debate on this topic, with some saying
that the research should not be used because most of the experiments were not well designed, which
would result in data that is valueless. Others argue that although the data may have value, it is not
ethical to use it because of the horrible ways in which the data was obtained. (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84).
Another lesson that can be imparted from the occurrences of the Holocaust is the need for some type
of regulation on a global scale of the research and medical practices taking place all over the world;
although this is a very complicated and difficult practice, and although the vast majority of researchers
would never commit such atrocities, if researchers such as Josef Mengele are left to carry out any
experiments and procedures that they wish, the consequences could be terrible. Research cannot be
carried out unchecked; there have to be ethical guidelines in place and these guidelines have to be

Concept Analysis of Empowerment
Empowerment is a concept we all have heard at one time or another it is utilized in numerous
professions and specialties. Analysis of this concept will further understanding of empowerment for
nursing professionals in areas from research, theory development or practice. Exploring the attributes,
consequences, implications and model cases of empowerment can assist the nursing professional in
utilizing empowerment to its fullest potential. Within the scope of nursing, empowerment can be seen
not purely as how it relates to the client, or the nurse but also how it relates to both the client and the
nurse (Rodwell 1996). The Walker Avant method was used to analyze this concept, as it was the most

Empowerment always includes power, as it is absolutely necessary. In the field of social work,
empowerment involves the partnership model in which power is developed with and among , rather
than power over consumers. (Cox, et Al 2008) Wetzel and Inglehart demonstrated the Human
Empowerment model in which it is demonstrated empowerment is essential to democracy, because it
is only effective if power is vested within the people. Empowerment in nursing stresses that in order
for a nurse to empower their patients, they must also surrender power. (Gibson, 1991) Seen in all three
disciplines, partnership is a process of enabling people to choose to take control over and make
decisions about their lives and critical to empowerment. It is also a process which values all those
involved. It is a democratic concept, fighting for the advancement of social justice and freedom of
choice. Value of self and others is an important attribute in empowerment, and is essential for
application of the concept. It is a very positive, proactive concept that requires effort from all sides of

Week 7 Reading Questions
What motivated the Congress to pass the Articles of Confederation? What were the successes of the
Articles and what were the problems?
As a result of the American Revolution there was a need of togetherness, or unity, between the states
so they could represent the United States. After the Revolution, the people wanted a much weaker
government. One of the successes of the Articles of Confederation was the expansion westward (Ohio,
Tennessee, etc.). Many states also gave up any extra land and that land was divided to be new states.
Also as a success the Land Ordinance of 1785 and the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 were created. The
Land Ordinance set prices for land to $.1 per acre which was expensive during this time period

Life for women changed slightly after the Revolution. Women were able to receive an education. Her
education would include learning how to read and spell. Women were able to oversee her husband s
property with that education (Voices of Freedom Chapter 6 pages 116 119).
African Americans, majority of them still enslaved, continued to fight for their freedoms. Many began
to petition for their unalienable rights. Northern states petitioned to have the children of slaves freed
once they reached the legal age as an adult while others ran away to the North to a free state (Voices of
Freedom Chapter 6 pages 14 116).

Cheating Is Not A New Conversation
Cheating is not a new conversation when it comes to sports. There are several forms of cheating such
as shaving points, using performance enhancement drugs, or sports betting. The formal definition of
cheating is to act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or
examination, (Merriam Webster dictionary). When it comes to college sports, it is easy for a player to
be persuaded to shave a few points for money. A typical question asked about sports is what happens if
a team or player is caught cheating? Cheating is widespread it just depends on if the team or player
gets caught. Recent examples of the cheating culture in sport includes Bill Belichick, coach of the
New England Patriots, directing his staff to videotape the defensive signals of the New York Jets and
athletes in 10 sports at Florida State University cheating on their academic work, (Lumpkin, 2011, p.
2). With cheating being so widespread, the real reason to play sports seems to be lost in all the chaos
of winning.
Cheating in sports is such an intriguing topic. Personally, this topic is interesting to me because sports
are a part of my life and whenever someone cheats just to win, I always wonder why they would do
such a thing. I understand that cheating happens in every level of sport. But what if everyone is
cheating? These questions are the reasons this topic is important to me. In addition, how will we

Analysis Of The Book 1984 By George Orwell
George Orwell s novel 1984 written nearly seventy years ago tells the tale of Winston Smith through a
dystopian culture controlled by a government that is always watching. The novel was meant to deter
people away from rising totalitarian societies at the time like Germany and the Soviet Union. Winston
s first diary entry depicts the events of his seemingly normal day. He begins with, Last night to the
flicks. All war films. One very good one of a ship full of refugees being bombed somewhere in the
Mediterranean. He goes on to write about an overweight refugee in the film attempting to swim away,
only to be shot multiple times by the gunmen. As the man went underwater, Winston says the audience
shout[ed] with laughter when he sank. Orwell continues to write this gruesome entry, making the
audiences so unbelievably horrifying with their continuous laughter at suffering.
This conglomeration of heartless people would only be found in a book, right? Orwell wrote this for
people suffering in countries with political dominance. The citizens gave in to what the government
put in front of them, and in that molded their value system to make even the wonderful shot of a child
s arm going up up up right up into the air cause the audience to jump for joy. Orwell s entire novel is
terrifying to say in the least, but what bothers me the most about the mentioned diary entry is realizing
that this is not far off from where we are as a society watching movies.

challenging specially when they work at a different rhythm or even a different way, I ve had different
experiences working in groups but personally I can agree that this group was a perfect fit for me, at
the beginning it was very difficult due to the fact that several of our classmates withdraw the class and
did not inform us before they did, this made us change our approach but at the end we ended up
working it out and making it work. The work we did as a group was easy we decided to meet at the

group members their task and what was going to be the role they would be playing in the group, the
order they would present and with was the subject they were going to elaborate in. I was in charge of
explaining what is a nonverbal message and how important it is, so I made sure of researching
everything I could not only by reading the chapter, but also by doing some outside research witch gave
me a lot of information and understanding of this subject.

Fan Fiction Character Appropriation
Fan fiction and character appropriation
Fan Fiction is a transformative practice of writing fiction created by fans based on existing source
work or consists of elements copied from a story world, character or setting, the original source of the
work being expanded can include any qualified material such as novels, films, comics or games. Legal
implications arise due to the contemplation whether it is an infringement of copyright as a derivative
work . Authors generally have a varied opinion on fan fiction, some downright loath the practice,
where as some consider it unimaginative yet unconcerned by it and some compliment it. The creator
of the original work rarely authorises or commissions fan fiction and it is very unlikely to receive
publishing. It has long existed as a fan practice, although since the internet s inception it has amplified
exponentially and has evolved into a much more elaborate exercise, with various classifications, style
and sub genres. The legal issues surrounding fan fiction are in dispute of whether they are derivative
works infringing Copyright Law, for these stories are usually transformative of an original

Fair use is a common defence against infringement claims, or in Australia fair dealings may similarly
constitute defence, though fair use isn t entirely secure for fan fiction, despite many maintaining its
legality due to its non profit nature. Lucasfilm Ltd have always accepted fan fiction that respects the

Argumentative Essay On Slam Poetry
Defending Slam Poetry as Art with Denise Frohman and Daniel Beaty Art is considered by some as
undefinable, and many other individuals have their very own definition of art. Poetry is one well
known form of art, and within poetry there is another form of poetry which is slam poetry. Slam
poetry is a very unique way of expressing poetry. Some individuals do not consider slam poetry as a
form of art. Among these individuals is literary critic Harold Bloom, who has publicly stated that slam
poetry is the death of art. Contrary to the literary critic Harold Bloom who has openly stated that Slam
poetry is the death of art, I argue that slam poetry furthers the wide scope of what we consider art.

The intervention we implemented promoted our patient s comfort and also led to decreased gagging and greater adherence to taking medications. Another less critical intervention I implemented were daily cares such as bathing, ambulating, and changing her gown. These were also interventions for comfort and that contributed to the patient feeling better about herself which will lead to healing. ADVANTAGES OF USING SUPERANNUATION TO PURCHASE A FIRST HOME The Australian Federal Government in recent years announced a contentious proposal in which first home buyers should access their initial superannuation savings to purchase their property. Most recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) as of February 2015 highlighted the increase in first home buyer population in their early thirties to forties by 57%. This is in contrast to the greater number of first home buyers aged in their early twenties and thirties when housing was more affordable, (Marinos, 2015). The proposal for first home buyers using superannuation savings to finance the purchase of their first home was raised initially by now current South Australian senator Nick Xenophon and former Treasurer Joe Hockey MP back in 2014, (Marinos, 2015). The proposals forwarded by the South Australian independent senator are meritorious for two reasons. Firstly, home buyers seeking to gain ascendancy onto the real estate market can do so by purchasing property via superannuation funds, (Gadd, n.d.). Secondly, using a proportion of superannuation savings could result in the creation of affordable housing and the prevention of real estate speculation. • 9. The Contributions Of The Endowment Effect Essay The endowment effect has been a heavily studied subject since the 1980 s when it was first described by Richard Thaler. This effect describes the phenomena where the buying and selling prices of an object have major differences. The sellers tend to overvalue their object, requesting higher prices than a buyer would be willing to pay. The buyers, on the other hand, demonstrate a much lower maximum price. This discrepancy between buying and selling prices, dependent upon the perspective of the person, is called the endowment effect. This effect has been connected to many different cognitive mechanisms, but up until this point has not been studied from the perspective of cognitive aging. The research in this paper will attempt to describe the endowment effect, relevant research, potential cognitive mechanisms, and hypotheses relevant to age. Theoretical Framework A major theory linked to the endowment effect is Tversky and Kahneman s (1979) prospect theory. This theory provided new insight into the decision making process, and went further than previous theory, the utility theory, to explain how decisions are made. Tversky and Kahneman describe prospect theory as a decision between gains and losses, or prospect and gambles as it is referred to in their 1979 paper. With every choice we make there are probabilities of losing and probabilities of gaining. In terms of gaining, prospect theory states that people are risk averse. • 19. Goffman s Contributions On The Theory Of Social Stigma I have chosen to examine Irving Goffman s contributions to the theory of social stigma, specifically through the perspectives presented in Stigma: Notes on the Management of Spoiled Identity. My analysis of this work leads me to imagine communication as a mask, possessing the ability to shield the wearer s actual social identity from observers. This metaphor has utility because it provides a concrete way to conceptualize a portion of the complex web of presentation and interpretations that accompany communicative interaction with an individual who is perceived to have an attribute that positions them as significantly other. When I originally proposed communication as a mask, I was envisioning the mask as noise designed to act as a barrier to communication. However, once I became aware of Goffman s work, I realized that this particular conception of communication provides specific advantages for the stigmatized in a way that acknowledges the constant vigilance and level of effort that a stigmatized individual must put forth in order to engage with a normal without revealing their attribute. Thus, I have chosen this perspective because it disturbed my default understanding of communication as an exchange between two normals. It may enable those who use it to develop insight into the experiences of those who perceive communicative interactions differently then themselves. Radio telescopes are similar to optical telescopes however they measure the radio frequency portion of the electromagnetic spectrum rather than the visible portion. We use radio telescopes to study naturally occurring radio wavelength light from stars, galaxies, black holes and other astronomical objects. In order to locate gravitational waves we are looking for oscillations in the images we see, as gravitational waves will bend light such as radio waves in alternating directions. WEBER BARS Simple devices to detect gravitational waves are known as Weber Bars. They were large aluminium cylinders which had a fixed resonance frequency and the theory was that passing gravitational waves would cause strains in space which would excite the resonant frequency of the cylinders to detectable levels, however because these waves were so weak the cylinders needed to be very large and the sensors has to be capable of detecting a change in the cylinders length by about 10 16 meters. However, Weber Bars cannot directly measure gravitational waves as they can only detect extremely strong gravitational waves which rarely if ever pass by at the required strength. Also Weber Bars can only detect gravitational waves which have a certain frequency that can excite the resonant frequency of the aluminium cylinders, and so were very limited ... • 27. The Effects Of Facebook On Society By Yvette Vickers The effects of Facebook on Society Yvette Vickers, a former Playboy playmate and Hollywood horror movie star would have been 86 in this year, but nobody exactly knows how old she was at the time of her death! According to the coroner s report, she was died for a long time ago before her neighbor discovered her death. Her neighbor, Susan Savage noticed cobwebs in her windows and yellowing pile of letters in her mailbox. She reached through a broken window to unlock the door and she reached upstairs, she found Vickers s mummified boy near a heater that was running at that time. Near the body, Vickers s computer was also running. The Los Angeles Times posted a story, which quickly went viral throughout the country. Within two weeks, Vickers s lonesome death was already the subject to thousands of Facebook posts and tweets. She had long been a horror movie icon, now she was an icon of a different kind of horror, our growing fear of loneliness. Certainly she received much more attention after her death than she did in the end years of her life. With no children, no religious group, and no immediate social circle of any kind, she had begun to look elsewhere for companionship. Vickers had made calls not to friends or family but to distant fans whom she found through fan conventions and Internet sites. Though her web of connections had grown broader but it was shallower, as has happened for many of us (Marche S. 2012). Vickers s death arises a question to all does social media ... • 29. Josef Mengele s Research Throughout World War II, multiple Nazi researchers and physicians experimented upon thousands of concentration camp prisoners, in painful and often deadly ways. Arguably the most horrific of them all was Dr. Josef Mengele and his experiments conducted on twins, dwarfs, and prisoners with physical abnormalities. Mengele s primary aim in research was to prove that certain traits such as eye colour, obesity, and nasal features were inherited and thusly could be bred out of existence. This interest stemmed from the Nazi obsession with a pure race, which ultimately led to the extreme violation and sterilization of undesirable groups . One of the main issues is whether or not it is ethically sound to use the results of the medical research that the Nazi s conducted during World War II; there is much debate on this topic, with some saying that the research should not be used because most of the experiments were not well designed, which would result in data that is valueless. Others argue that although the data may have value, it is not ethical to use it because of the horrible ways in which the data was obtained. (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84). Another lesson that can be imparted from the occurrences of the Holocaust is the need for some type of regulation on a global scale of the research and medical practices taking place all over the world; although this is a very complicated and difficult practice, and although the vast majority of researchers would never commit such atrocities, if researchers such as Josef Mengele are left to carry out any experiments and procedures that they wish, the consequences could be terrible. As a result of the American Revolution there was a need of togetherness, or unity, between the states so they could represent the United States. After the Revolution, the people wanted a much weaker government. One of the successes of the Articles of Confederation was the expansion westward (Ohio, Tennessee, etc.). Many states also gave up any extra land and that land was divided to be new states. Also as a success the Land Ordinance of 1785 and the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 were created. • 33. Cheating Is Not A New Conversation Cheating is not a new conversation when it comes to sports. There are several forms of cheating such as shaving points, using performance enhancement drugs, or sports betting. The formal definition of cheating is to act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination, (Merriam Webster dictionary). When it comes to college sports, it is easy for a player to be persuaded to shave a few points for money. A typical question asked about sports is what happens if a team or player is caught cheating? Cheating is widespread it just depends on if the team or player gets caught. Recent examples of the cheating culture in sport includes Bill Belichick, coach of the New England Patriots, directing his staff to videotape the defensive signals of the New York Jets and athletes in 10 sports at Florida State University cheating on their academic work, (Lumpkin, 2011, p. 2). With cheating being so widespread, the real reason to play sports seems to be lost in all the chaos of winning. Cheating in sports is such an intriguing topic. Personally, this topic is interesting to me because sports are a part of my life and whenever someone cheats just to win, I always wonder why they would do such a thing. I understand that cheating happens in every level of sport. But what if everyone is cheating? These questions are the reasons this topic is important to me. In addition, how will we remember these athletes if they are labeled cheaters for the rest of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book 1984 By George Orwell George Orwell s novel 1984 written nearly seventy years ago tells the tale of Winston Smith through a dystopian culture controlled by a government that is always watching. The novel was meant to deter people away from rising totalitarian societies at the time like Germany and the Soviet Union. Winston s first diary entry depicts the events of his seemingly normal day. He begins with, Last night to the flicks. All war films. One very good one of a ship full of refugees being bombed somewhere in the Mediterranean. He goes on to write about an overweight refugee in the film attempting to swim away, only to be shot multiple times by the gunmen. As the man went underwater, Winston says the audience shout[ed] with laughter when he sank. Orwell continues to write this gruesome entry, making the audiences so unbelievably horrifying with their continuous laughter at suffering. This conglomeration of heartless people would only be found in a book, right? Orwell wrote this for people suffering in countries with political dominance. The citizens gave in to what the government put in front of them, and in that molded their value system to make even the wonderful shot of a child s arm going up up up right up into the air cause the audience to jump for joy. Orwell s entire novel is terrifying to say in the least, but what bothers me the most about the mentioned diary entry is realizing that this is not far off from where we are as a society watching movies. Being in a group is not an easy thing working with people can be challenging specially when they work at a different rhythm or even a different way, I ve had different experiences working in groups but personally I can agree that this group was a perfect fit for me, at the beginning it was very difficult due to the fact that several of our classmates withdraw the class and did not inform us before they did, this made us change our approach but at the end we ended up working it out and making it work. The work we did as a group was easy we decided to meet at the speech lab and brainstorm the best way of presenting our subject; we decided on assign each of the group members their task and what was going to be the role they would be playing in the group, the order they would present and with was the subject they were going to elaborate in. I was in charge of explaining what is a nonverbal message and how important it is, so I made sure of researching everything I could not only by reading the chapter, but also by doing some outside research witch gave me a lot of information and understanding of this subject.
